Las Vegas is a city in the southwestern United States and the largest city in the state of Nevada. A lively center of gambling and entertainment, famous throughout the world. Las Vegas attracts tourists and gives them a whole range of entertainment: from an amusement park and world-class shows to parties in nightclubs and shopping in fashionable boutiques.

The climate is subtropical desert with long, hot summers and mild, short winters. In summer, the thermometer can easily reach +40°C. In winter, the weather brings precipitation to the inhabitants, and snow often falls. Usually the air temperature in winter stays around +15°C, however, in the evening it drops down to -3°C.

The city provides its own international airport, which is located close to the center of entertainment. You can fly here from the capital of Russia by making at least 2 transfers. Another option is to drive to Las Vegas by car from Los Angeles (the cities are separated by 440 kilometers). Las Vegas has a monorail transport system consisting of 1 line.

You can rent a small apartment here with a modern renovation from $800 per month.

Loved the decor, nice bathroom. The decor is wonderful.

Poor water pressure. It would also be nice to have coffee in the room. A refrigerator wouldn’t hurt either. There are queues from time to time and you have to wait for your turn. But there are some good bars

    AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

    We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

    SCHOOL-READY

    What Learning Looks Like

Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.

    Silverbrook KinderCare Programs

    Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)

Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
    ready to explore their world.

    Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)

Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.

    Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)

This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.

    Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
    kindergarten!

    Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)

When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

Before- and After-School Programs (5–12 Years)

You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!

School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.

    Participating Child Care Aware Center

KinderCare partners with Child Care Aware® of America to offer fee assistance for
Active Duty military families and flexible support to fit their needs when care at a Child
Development Center on the installation is not available.

    Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program

    Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)

In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!

    Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)

KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.

    Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)

Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)

    STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)

You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
    amazing things!

    Our Teachers

We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.

Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!

    A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH

    An Artist’s Heart

“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.

We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.

    • My child is in the Toddler room at this location and his teachers are very good at communicating when it comes to his day and if he needs any supplies, etc. I also love the art that they make in his class and the pictures that his teachers post of him creating the art.

      Parent – KinderCare Parent
    • I loved how caring, welcoming and loving the Infant teachers were with my son. They always asked me if I had any special instructions for the day and they always greeted him with a hug in the morning and smile on their faces. I love Ms. Jenepher and Ms. Shabina and I would recommend the Infant room at this center to new parents.

      Parent – KinderCare Parent
    • The Silverbrook KinderCare is always clean and smells nice. The managers are always available for you to speak with and the teachers are super friendly and caring. Both of my grandchildren have attended since they were infants and we have had wonderful experiences at this location. I would recommend this center to new families!

      Vizzinni – KinderCare Parent
    • I have had my children in this center for over two years now. I love how the teachers communicate to me on a daily basis and how loving that they all are. • My three year old begs me to come to school on the weekends so he can see his friends and teachers. The welcoming environment is so apparent as this school. I have seen a considerable difference in my son’s knowledge and behaviors over the past year. I love how the teachers care and treat my child like he is their own! Thank you Silverbrook KinderCare for being so amazing!

      Parent – KinderCare Parent
    • I interviewed about 15 daycare providers in the Lorton, VA, area and I am so happy and reassured daily that I chose KinderCare! I absolutely love how they take care of my two little ones! The teachers and managing staff are always at the daycare with smiles and positive attitudes! I love that I can call anytime and know the status of my kiddos and what they are up to. KinderCare has fun teaching themes in the classrooms monthly, special pajama days, and breakfast/dinner for families. The best part is the take-home artwork, pictures, and my smiling kiddos at the end of every day. We love KinderCare!

      Jennifer S. – KinderCare Parent
    • I wanted to send a huge thank you to the staff of KinderCare off south run rd. My 3 year old son has been going to KinderCare since 18 most old and he is now potty trained and thriving. He has a second home there with many loving hands, smiling faces and warm hugs. I am so happy with my decision to bring him there and going back to work full-time was easier with the peace of mind I got with him being there. Thank you!!

Your Guide to Water Fun, Swimming, and Splash Pads Near McDonough

By Jennifer Sheran, publisher McDonough, Stockbridge, Hampton, Locust Grove Macaroni Kid

Water Fun Guide for Henry County and Surrounding Areas

Georgia summers are HOT! Luckily, there are many options for water fun in and around Henry County. Where does your family like to cool off?

From pools to splash pads to water parks, Macaroni Kid is here to help you make a splash this summer.

Before you go to the pool, a splash pad, or water park, make sure you are prepared.

    • Whether a pool or a splash pad, you will need to wear swimwear and not street clothes.
    • Protect your family from the sun with sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses.
    • Bring your beach towels and blankets.
    • If your child is not toilet trained, you will need to bring swim diapers or incontinent swim wear.
    • Some places do offer concessions, but it is best to play it safe and bring your own drinks and snacks.
    • Be sure to have water shows or sandals that can get wet.
    • It is a good idea to bring a change of clothes and a plastic bag to store wet items after the fun is done.
    • Have some cash on hand, some county facilities only accept cash for admission.

We advise always checking with the venue when possible before heading out as hours and availability can change due to any number of factors, ranging from weather to staffing issues.

Most of our local cool-down hot spots open Memorial Day weekend and fully close on or before Labor Day.

    Splash Pads

There are several nearby splash pad recreation areas for kids of all sizes to cool off and play, the water play structure includes water-spraying nozzles of various kinds and has little or no standing water.

I’m selling my girl))), the car was brought from the USA new in 2013, not beaten and not heated, no pitfalls, the car is well-groomed and never saved on it, maximum equipment, painted over the entire period of operation the following details, namely the lower part of the front passenger door (a scratch on the park area when turning, cosmetics without putty), trunk lid (the previous owner, when parking the car in reverse, did not see a branch that was higher than the camera and made a small dent near the Toyota badge, which was fixed and locally painted, I painted the front bumper due to chipped paintwork and the left threshold, the threshold due to the fact that it was bent at the tire fitting complex during a tire change when the car was sharply lowered (there is a video before and after if necessary I’ll take everything off and show you. ) There are metal engine protection, a Magnum alarm with a label and auto start and many functions that allow you to completely monitor the car from anywhere and, if necessary, block it and muffle it, high-quality video with rear and front cameras, the car is noiseless and has a JBL premium sound system with 13 speakers and a subwoofer, in the cabin all the lighting has been replaced by Led, additionally installed xenon in PTF and expensive Led lamps in the headlights, part of the hood, fenders, sills, headlights in armored film, as well as places under the handles. A high-quality HBO Zavolli with a large cylinder was installed, it fits 70 liters, the car went on gas for about 60,000 km, the fuel consumption of the highway at speeds up to 120 is gas 9-10, gasoline 6.5-7.5 liters, in the city 12 liters of gasoline and 14 liters of gas, this is the difference with the previous 3.5 due to more gears. The car is raised by rubber spacers, 20 mm front and 30 mm rear, new winter tires Yokohama 8000 for the wheel and summer Michelin, pressure sensors, equal to the original 18 wheels without surprises. I can write just endlessly, if I don’t answer, please write here or on any messenger, I will answer any questions and send additional photos, to the whole world and a speedy victory! …

In the fall of 1952, at Elysian Heights Elementary School in California, a tabby cat entered the classroom right in the middle of class, quietly sat down in the middle of the room and began to put himself in order.

The cat was thin and hungry, and the teacher allowed him to drink milk. After sitting in class for about half a day, the cat majestically got up and left.
The next day the cat came to school again. When it became clear that he was going to come all the time, he was given the name Room 8 (Class Eight), in honor of the office he entered first.
“Class Eight” became a legend, and among the students there was no more honorable position than “cat feeder” and “sleeping cat shifter”.

The cat lived at the school throughout the academic year, but then disappeared in the summer, returning to school again in the fall. He was part of the school until the late 1960s.
At the beginning of the year, journalists will come to the school, waiting for the return of the cat; he became famous and received up to 100 letters a day addressed to him at school. He was eventually featured in the documentary Big Cat, Little Cat and the children’s book A Room Called Class 8. In November 1962, Look magazine published a three-page Class 8 issue
. If you open the old photo albums of the Elysian Heights school of those times, almost all the general photographs of the classes (from about 1952 to 1967) the cat will definitely sit in the place of honor in the middle.
Many years later, guitarist Leo Kottke will see these prints, learn the history of their appearance and write the instrumental composition “Room 8”.
August 13, 1968, the already old “Class 8” was injured in a fight with another cat and, in addition, it was found that he suffered from feline pneumonia. The school janitor will find him lying in the school yard at the end of the day. The cat was treated, and when it became difficult for him to walk, the school staff carried him to and from class.
“Class Eight” soon died at the estimated age of 22. He was honored with his own grave and a three-column obituary in the Los Angeles Times. His obituary rivaled that of major political figures. School students raised funds for a monument to the cat. He is buried at the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park in Calabasas, California.
Elysian Heights Elementary School has a memorial mural on the outside of the school that depicts “Class 8” and teachers read books about it for each new class. “Class 8” paw prints are immortalized in cement on the sidewalk outside the school.
In 1972, a cat shelter was founded, named after his name “The Room 8”.

    What Is a Daycare Schedule?

Schedules are useful in organizing your activities, especially at work. The daily schedule you establish at your daycare will dictate your staff schedule. Most daycares open early and close late because they cater to working families. There are numerous ways to plan a day at your daycare. Some daycares schedule particular games, training sessions, or nap periods throughout the day. Other daycares use a basic routine without scheduled activity times.

How to Create a Daycare Schedule?

Creating a daycare schedule for infants and toddlers is a very integral part in running a childcare business. This tool enables you to stay organized and streamline your operations. In this way, you can manage your business well while providing support and convenience to your staff. Additionally, there are several general guidelines that you must follow in forming your schedule as it should incorporate ways to assess all of the social, emotional, and physical needs of the children in your daycare center.  In this section, we are happy to give you some tips that can help you in making your home daycare schedule:

    1. Acquire your licensing requirements

According to an article published by Brightwheel, being informed about the daycare and child care licensing regulations in your area is important as this will give you a foundation to begin with. For instance, what are the rules concerning the staff ratios for each age group at your daycare? Do you need to have a daily morning record of the health condition of your infants or toddlers? What are the guidelines regarding the appropriate nutrition of food served to your children? You must accomplish the mandatory requirements and recommended components prior to creating your daycare schedule.

    2. Fill up your child’s developmental needs with various activities

Pamela May, the author of the book “Child Development in Practice: Responsive Teaching and Learning from Birth to Five”, explained that a rich learning environment provided for the infants and toddlers will see unexpected learning because young ones are learning from everything that happens to them. They have an increased recognition of every different thing. When little kids are playing, their learning ability is much likely to be unpredictable because the children’s minds are following their own distinct ideas.

Below are some samples of curriculum learning from some developmental activities:

    • Birth to 11 months: Learn by observation about actions and their effects.
    • 8-20 months: Have a strong exploratory impulse.
    • 16-26 months: Express themselves through physical action and sound. Explore by repeating patterns of play.
    • 30-50 months: Observe and use positional languages. Move freely with freedom and confidence in a range of ways, such as rolling, crawling, running, etc.
    • 40-60 months: Interact with others, negotiate plans and activities, take turns in conversations.

Whether it’s hours of exercise per day or different kinds of play activities, all your daily daycare schedules should be made to fully support and enhance the developmental milestones of each age group as your aim is to prepare each child for progressing in the next developmental stage. Carefully include some structured routines and activities in your schedule which can fully benefit their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills and growth.

    3. Add some transition times and flexibility

Based on an article written by Katelyn Vickers of HiMama, incorporating some transition times in between your scheduled activities. This helps the children to combine specific tasks with the activity they are about to participate in. Also, you can further prepare them for these transition times by constantly reminding them what’s the next activity or game.

Teaching toddlers to be more adaptable when something suddenly occurs is an important aspect in their development. So, try making small changes in your daycare schedule every once in a while. It’s like bringing some “pop of color” from your standard minimalist palette through adding a variety of tasks to your daily schedules. Doing this can contribute to their qualities later when they become older like building up strong resilience in life.

    4. Consider your staffing needs

Your child care staff also need some regular break times throughout the day so that they can be more efficient and productive in all of their duties without any direct supervision like prep time, cleaning and organizing toys, etc.

    FAQs

What is the purpose of a daycare schedule?

A daycare schedule helps you to have consistency in running your home daycare center. Having a well-prepared and balanced schedule that addresses primary developmental goals, allows you to provide families with excellent quality care. Also, having a consistent routine allows teachers to monitor each child’s progress, and coordinate with parents on daily care plans.

What are the main factors to consider in planning a daycare schedule?

The main factors to consider are the following:

    • Check-in time/reporting
    • Breakfast
    • Individual learning activities according to their age group
    • Storytime
    • Naptime
    • Sensory activities or arts and crafts
    • Outdoor time
    • Afternoon snack time
    • Music or singing time
    • Check out time/reporting with parents

How to create a daycare curriculum?

Your first goal should be to provide the best child care for the families out there. Be aware of their necessities and familiarize yourself in your children’s overall well-being. Prioritize and fully equip their everyday needs. Focus on their basic learning skills and eventually help them to progress. Make it fun and avoid doing complicated things.

How can I assure the families of the safety of their children in my daycare?

Have a comprehensive child care risk management plan and present this document to the respective parents or families. You should gain their trust and loyalty so that they can also be aware of their children being in good hands.

So, creating a simple daycare schedule is helpful in having a daycare business. Following a daycare schedule is very essential to install order in children’s lives.  Being provided for regularly will significantly build a fundamental trust between the child and their caregiver. Performing daily routines ensures that children know their caregiver will be there to focus on any needs that appear. In turn, it gives stability and comfort to the child’s feelings toward their environment. We are happy to provide you some downloadable daycare schedule samples here in various formats. Daily routine in kindergarten

    Topic: Blog

Kids quickly get used to the free schedule, according to which the family lives. Therefore, many parents who decide to send their child to kindergarten are alarmed by words like “regime”, “routine”, “sleep and lunch on schedule”. In fact, the kindergarten mode will not bring any harm to the health of the child, rather the opposite. The schedule of the daily routine in kindergarten is compiled taking into account the physiology and psychology of children. The purpose of the regime is to satisfy the needs of a growing organism, improve health and ensure the harmonious development of preschool children.

What are the principles of the regime

    • Age. The senior, middle and nursery groups live each according to their own schedule, which meets the age needs of children. For example, babies need more time to eat, get ready for bed. Classes in the nursery last up to 10 minutes, and in the older group for half an hour.
    • Rhythm. The schedule takes into account the periods of greatest physical and mental activity of children, their need for rest and energy recovery. Sports and creative activities, walks on the street, a quiet hour in the afternoon, time for independent games – everything is provided for in the regime.
    • Flexibility. The daily routine in kindergarten in the younger group, as well as in the middle and preparatory, takes into account the individual characteristics of children. For example, in Binny kindergartens for children who do not like too noisy games, privacy corners are organized.

What is the approximate daily routine in a kindergarten

The daily routine of a kindergarten, private or municipal, must include:

    • reception of children at the beginning of the day and farewell in the evening;
    • morning exercises and physical activity during the day;
    • hygiene, preparation and eating;
    • outdoor walk;
    • creative, educational activities;
    • dance and music lessons;
    • joint activities;
    • rest time, lunchtime nap;
    • hardening;
    • games, free employment of children.

Here is a table showing the approximate daily routine in kindergarten: preparatory group, middle and junior.

How the daily routine works in kindergarten

It is difficult to overestimate the importance of the day regimen in kindergarten. A properly drawn up schedule of activities and rest ensures high performance, protects against overwork, improves health and achieves the maximum benefit from developmental activities.

The daily routine is formed taking into account the psychological characteristics of preschoolers: loads are distributed evenly, there are no stress factors

The need to comply with the regime of the day in kindergarten is prescribed in the Federal State Educational Standard and SanPiN. It is important to adhere to the following principles:

    • Children should eat wholesome meals at set times and have sufficient lunchtime naps.
    • Hygiene skills are taught in the garden: children wash their hands before eating, in the summer they wash their feet after a walk, bed linen is changed once a week.
    • Preschoolers should walk daily, engage in active activities, labor, developmental and educational activities.
    • It is important to provide time for group and individual games, physical education lessons, music lessons.
    • It is necessary to take into account the individual characteristics of each child, develop the cultural skills of pupils, encourage them to work, and create a benevolent atmosphere in the team.

The day regimen of preschool children in kindergarten must correspond to age characteristics, therefore, individual schedules are formed for different groups.

Preschoolers should be taken for a walk at any time of the year, if it rains, games are held in the covered pavilion

    Child’s daily routine in kindergarten

Mandatory activities in the preschool educational institution:

    • Reception and examination of pupils.

Every day from 7 am to 8 am, parents bring their kids to kindergarten. Taking the child, the teacher asks how the baby feels, what mood he is in. A health worker or caregiver’s assistant takes the temperature. The most convenient way to do this is with a non-contact forehead thermometer. Then the child changes clothes and goes to the group.

    • Charging.

When all the children have gathered, the teacher conducts exercises to cheer up the kids and prepare them for a productive day. Morning exercise is short, includes 6-8 exercises, which are repeated several times.

In older groups, you can entrust the exercise to pupils and change the “coach” daily, so that everyone can try themselves in this role

    • Eating.

Breakfast and every subsequent meal begins with washing hands. Then children from 3 years old help to set the tables: they carry baskets of bread, napkins, cutlery. When portions are prepared, the kids sit down at the tables. The teacher monitors the correct behavior of children at the table. In most kindergartens, three meals are provided: breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, second breakfast and dinner can also be introduced (with long-term work of the preschool educational institution).

    • Playing activities.

Babies should have time to play during the day. Games help children develop imagination, mental and speech activity, independence. Children can build structures from soft modules, a designer, play with toys, board games, as well as in thematic corners “Hairdresser”, “Hospital”, “Kitchen”, etc. Usually, free time for games is allocated before breakfast, during a walk, after afternoon tea.

    • Direct educational activities (classes).

The daily routine in kindergarten necessarily includes developmental activities: the world around, speech development, drawing, modeling, appliqué, role-playing games. The older the children, the more classes are added: simple mathematics, Russian and English, and literary reading are introduced. Be sure to conduct music and sports classes, classes with a psychologist, if necessary – with a speech therapist.

    • Walk.

Weather permitting, the children go out twice a day: before lunch and after lunch. The maximum duration of walks is up to 4 hours a day. In frosty winter and in bad weather, walking time is reduced to a comfortable one. Toddlers are not taken out for a walk in a strong wind, and when the frost is below -15 ° C, older preschoolers can be taken out for a short walk down to -20 ° C.

    • Sleep hour.

After dinner, the children are put to sleep. A nap hour in preschool lasts at least two hours. To make it easier for children to fall asleep, the teacher reads or turns on an audio fairy tale.

To introduce children to the preschool regime, a group can place a poster or stand “Daily Schedule” with thematic pictures, a list of activities and hours. Children will be able to tell from the pictures what they are doing in the garden and learn to set the time on the clock.

The picture shows an example of the design of a stand for introducing kids to the daily routine in kindergarten

Organization of the mode for groups

All preschool groups adhere to approximately the same regime, only the content of classes and their duration differ – the older the children, the longer they are able to hold attention. And babies are given more time to eat and prepare for walks, as they are still insecure about cutlery and take longer to dress.

For clarity, we present the approximate daily routine in kindergarten in the form of a table.

Pros & Cons of Living in Chandler, Arizona

Pro #1: Chandler AZ has Great National Rankings

When you’re looking to relocate, it can be hard to know what areas offer the most, because you don’t live there yet. Maybe you’ve visited, but even at that, you’re living like a tourist, not a resident.

National rankings are an excellent way to get a grasp on a place that is new to you, knowing the factors involved in the ranking system are unbiased and straight across the board. And happily, Chandler, AZ ranks well in many categories. Each ranking is specific, such as Chandler being rated number one in “Best Places to Become Wealthy” or number three in “Best Places to Buy a Family Home,” but you can look at the statistics and decide what sounds most important to you.

Are you a woman in the STEM industry? Chandler ranks number 8 in “Best Places for Women in Tech.” Also scoring high on the charts in Chandler is: safest area to live, and best place to find a job. Again, these are public resources such as blogs, websites, publications and other credible sources. (As opposed to, say, your mother’s sister who happens to live in Chandler and really wants you to move there!)

    Pro #2: Chandler Location

You know what they say, “Location, location, location!” One of the top ‘pro’s’ of living in Chandler is that it’s conveniently situated in a very accessible and central part of the Phoenix Metro Area. Regardless of where you live within Chandler, you’re just a short drive from any of the major highways running through Phoenix. And a reasonable commute into the city if you’re looking to work in Phoenix, but live on the outskirts. For those who travel often, the airport is easily accessible, and it’s very easy to hop onto any of the aforementioned highways, if you travel around the west and mostly drive.

Learn More: Cost of Living in Phoenix, AZ

Pro #3: Affordable Luxury Housing in Chandler

It’s clear that the population of the Phoenix area has been growing exponentially over the past two decades or so. This means new neighborhoods have popped up all over the valley to accommodate the growing number of residents. Of course, people are coming for the weather, the jobs, the affordable cost of living, but perhaps one of the biggest pros of the Chandler area specifically, is the affordability of what most Americans would consider luxury housing.

Among these neighborhoods are many master planned neighborhoods, where luxury amenities such as pools, tennis courts, paved and lighted walking paths and more, are designed into the layout of the small community, adding an extra layer of comfort for its residents.

Best of all, homes nearly identical in style, home, and community amenities in the Scottsdale area, for instance, are usually at least two hundred thousand dollars more expensive. The same square footage in Scottsdale may cost you around $750,000, but only $450,000 in Chandler. Getting more for your buck is perhaps the biggest “draw” an area can have to potential home buyers. We all want to get as much as we can for those hard earned dollars, right?

    Pro #4: Schools

    There are a few major school districts in the Chandler area;

    • Chandler Unified Schools District,
    • Mesa School District
    • and Gilbert School District.

Wherever you fall on the district grids, Chandler has wonderful public schools. Most of these schools rate very highly when it comes to graduation rates, extracurricular offerings, and attendance rates. But even if you find yourself living closest to one of the schools that isn’t the most highly rated of the bunch, there are so many schools to choose from. It’s fairly easy to find the perfect school for you and your family within a reasonable distance.

If you can’t decide which school might be the best fit for you, there are plenty of resources where parents can communicate with other parents, such as online chats and message boards. And of course schools are always open for prospective parents to tour and see what classroom sizes look like, or meet a few teachers.

Pro #5: Shopping & Dining Scene in Chandler

Entertainment is a huge part of quality of life. We all go to work, doctor’s appointments, school, or other daily obligations, but when it’s time to cut loose, we want something fun to do! Whether that’s going to a movie, or going out to eat at a fun restaurant, Chandler has a ton of great entertainment options close to home.

Much like the neighborhood styles, Chandler has done an outstanding job of offering extremely similar experiences to its populace as they would find in a more expensive part of Phoenix.

Chandler has aesthetically pleasing shopping centers, a great downtown with fun nightlife, and still plenty of smaller local establishments to support a non-generic, unique vibe. You’ll never run out of fun restaurants to try, or places to shop; and as Chandler grows, these areas only get nicer and nicer.

While the shopping centers and restaurants are all high end in appearance, another great thing about this area is that you can truly find something fun to do on any budget. There’s something for everyone!

Learn More: Pros & Cons of Moving to Phoenix, Arizona

Con of Living in Chandler AZ #1: HOA fees

We talked earlier about the well laid out neighborhoods of Chandler, but you’ll find that most of these neighborhoods look so nice because they employ HOA regulations. A homeowners association lays out “ground rules” so to speak, for all residents.

An HOA outlines expectations for everything from mailbox locations, to landscaping, to what color roofing homes can have! Some are more restrictive than others, but in general, they are in place to make sure everyone in the neighborhood is happy with the overall feel and upkeep of their surroundings. Because the HOA jurisdiction falls over things like sidewalks and other communal items, HOA’s usually come with rather pricey fees, ensuring there are always funds to keep things tip top.

Con #2: Popularity has led to Overcrowding

As the Arizona population grows daily, these oasis towns in the desert are becoming less and less “oasis like” as they fill up with the rest of the country’s loose ends. Most residents of the Phoenix area are not born and raised Phoenicians. Like other big cities such as Los Angeles or New York City, many migrate to the area for one reason or another.

While residents of Chandler feel its growing overcrowded, it’s important to remember this probably isn’t so much a Chandler specific issue, as an Arizona as a whole issue. As people flock to Arizona from pricier states like the coastal states, these charming neighborhoods near Phoenix but not quite “in” Phoenix are the perfect place to set up  a home base. Close to the city, with room for the kids and the dog and the two car garage, these suburbs with so much to offer are like a siren song to big city weary transplants.

That being said, unless you have lived in Chandler for a decade or more, you probably won’t feel all too crowded, because you’ll be ones of these transplants coming from elsewhere, such as four million and counting in population Los Angeles, where the “crowding” of Chandler will feel about as crowded as the population of Mars!

Learn More: Living in Arizona vs California

    Con #3: Longer Commute Times

We mentioned earlier that most major highways are accessible from Chandler, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t crowded. As the population of Chandler grows, this means more cars on the road. This leads to increased commute times for those who work outside the city, or even those who work in town but still have to get home at some point!

Travel times at peak hours of the day such as morning or evening rush hour are increasing yearly. While you might not have to cover a large distance from a mileage perspective, you could still find yourself spending more time in the car than you had originally anticipated when moving to Chandler.

Much like the crowding issue, however, if you are coming from a place with unbearable traffic, this won’t seem too bad. But for those who have been living in Chandler for years, it’s continuing to get worse and worse.  It’s also worth noting that all pros come with a few cons, and many feel the benefits of everything Chandler has to offer far outweigh the little bit of extra time you’ll spend in the car to get to these wonderful amenities.

Now that you’ve gotten a bit more insight into the pros and cons of living in Chandler, AZ you can easily see we were able to quickly find more pros than cons! Everyone has their own “must haves” when it comes to picking a new home, so if great schools or affordable housing are high on your list, and you don’t mind a little bit of extra traffic, Chandler might be just the place to call your next home!

If you’re looking to call Chandler home then call or email us. Our team has your back when it comes to finding that perfect place to call home.

High School Theater Kids Put on a Show (or at Least Try)

2 high school drama teachers write and direct a musical for their Cupertino, CA school about the pressures of being a high school student striving to do everything to set themselves up to get into a good college. The musical is called “Ranked” and deals with how schools rank their students’ achievements and create a stressful, competitional environment (yes, this is a real musical that was working its way towards off-Broadway when the pandemic hit). The doc also shows the audition and rehearsal steps for two other schools, one in central California and in West Virginia. You see the dichotomy of 3 different schools and musical/drama departments in very different class areas of the country. But then COVID hits and the film switches to being about how the theater arts seniors need to finish up high school and apply to colleges.

I liked this film a lot. It reminded me of the terrific documentary, also from 2021, called Try Harder!, about high school kids competing for the best colleges, a film I absolutely loved. You can’t help but wish the best for these kids and want to see where they are in a few years.

Along with the NJ school performance reports released last week are school-by-school summative scores and ratings, which compares districts and also gives a number score that measures how well each school is doing in academic achievement and progress. (Shutterstock)

NEW JERSEY — New Jersey’s school ratings are back, exploring how more than 2,300 public schools are serving the 1.4 million students around the state and comparing schools to one another.

Along with the school performance reports released the first week of April are school-by-school summative scores and ratings, which compares districts and also gives a number score that measures how well each school is doing in academic achievement and progress. See school-by-school scores below.

This is the first time parents and teachers have seen results of the rating system since 2020, because state testing was postponed during COVID-19. New Jersey also identifies schools which need support with its ESSA accountability system.

Find out what’s happening in Across New Jerseywith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Find out what’s happening in Across New Jerseywith free, real-time updates from Patch.

The scores were established to comply with the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which replaced the No Child Left Behind Act. The state did not score schools in 2019-20 and 2020-21, because the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted state testing and New Jersey was granted a waiver from accountability- related requirements under ESSA.

In every state, ESSA requires school districts to measure student performance and develop a “State Report Card” which parents can explore online, with quantifiable measurements like a score or a letter grade for how schools are performing. ESSA also requires states to report how much money, on average, they spend per student.

The summative scores are included in the NJ school performance reports, but not on the front page.

    How are summative scores calculated?

Schools are broken down into categories by configuration, or what grade levels they serve, and compared to others in that category. These include elementary/middle school, high school, and a mixed configuration school which combines many grades into one building.

Elementary schools which only teach children under grade three are not included, as there is no state testing at this level.

Based on the configuration, the NJ Department of Education looks at the schools’ four-year graduation rate, five-year graduation rate, English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency, math proficiency, ELA growth, math growth, and progress towards English language proficiency (ELP). A school needs to have data on three of these elements to have its score reviewed in the standard manner.

The rate of chronic absenteeism is also included in the score. Student performance is measured overall, but also focuses on how students are doing in underserved subgroups classified by race, nationality, economic situation, and special education.

What do these scores and ratings mean?

“Summative scores” provide a number from 1-99, and are based on factors listed above such as graduation rates and progress in English and math. Higher scores are better, and certain schools with lower scores are put into categories for support and improvement.

Schools are compared to one another based on grade level, as well, in the “summative ratings.” For example, schools that serve high school students only are compared with one another. These are percentile ratings from 1-100, so a school with a rating closer to 100 is among the best of its peers.

It is possible for a school to have a higher summative rating than summative score, and vice-versa.

What are the top and bottom scores?

Top performers (according to NJ DOE reports)

    • Luther Lee Elementary (Demarest School District, Bergen Co. ): 97.95
    • Torey J. Sabatini School (Madison Public SD, Morris Co.): 97.69
    • Monmouth County Academy of Allied Health and Science (Monmouth County Vocational SD): 97.23
    • High Technology High School (Monmouth County Vocational SD): 97.38
    • Edison Academy Magnet School (Middlesex County Vocational and Technical SD): 97.08

    Bottom performers

    • Daylight/Twilight High School (Trenton Public SD, Mercer Co.): 0.62
    • LEAD Charter School (LEAD Charter School, Newark, Essex Co.): 0.63
    • Camden High School (Camden City SD, Camden Co.): 0.99
    • Morgan Village Middle School (Camden City SD): 1.14
    • East Side High School (Camden City SD): 1.54

View the full scores and ratings in the table below; there is a search bar to look for a particular school, otherwise it is sorted alphabetically by county.

Table note: Some schools did not get a score because the state did not have complete data for last school year. Schools serving only elementary students under grade 3 do not get a score, because their students do not participate in state standardized tests. Charter schools are listed separately, not by county. All schools are included.

    What Aurora Hills Parents Say

Aurora Hills is a Great School

There are so many positive things happening at Aurora Hills Middle School.   The building feels new and fresh and so does the attitude of the school Leadership. There is just a lot of positive energy. There are new ideas and approaches to building the school community. The kids are being offered many interesting options for classes. Things like STEM offerings, art classes and an AMAZING music program are available. There are afterschool activities available, Compass, sports, and homework help.  The size of the student population is also a plus, it is a big school but not so big that kids get “lost” in the numbers. I can see how committed the teachers and staff are to the kids. It’s a place where you can tell that each child and each family matters. I’m glad that this is our neighborhood school.
