Andrew Jackson, seventh President of the United States

Andrew Jackson, born March 15, 1767, was an American politician who served as the seventh President of the United States of America from 1829 to 1837.

As a war hero and “savior of his country”, he was one of the few Americans who dominated the first half of the 19th century. As president, he redefined and strengthened the executive branch, championing the concept of a united nation against growing threats of disunity. By all accounts, he was one of the strongest presidents, and also one of the most controversial. He gave his name to the Jacksonian Democracy movement and the Jackson Age.

Biography

Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767, in the Waxhaw area of South Carolina, to a humble Irish immigrant family. Because his father died a few weeks before his birth, he was raised by his older brother Hugh, who taught him to read and write. He later received a modest education and taught school for some time.

First military experience

During the American Revolutionary War, when the British invaded the Carolinas in 1780, thirteen-year-old Jackson joined a group of volunteers and was captured and imprisoned after the Battle of Hanging Rock. When the conflict ended, the young patriot was released and returned home, where he found with bitterness that his mother and two of his brothers had died during the war. Settling in Salisbury in 1784, he devoted himself to the study of law. Great perseverance was rewarded in 1787 when he became a lawyer. By October 1788, he was appointed district attorney in Mero County (now Middle Tennessee) and moved to Nashville, where he lived in the home of Rachel Stockley Donelson, the widow of the city’s founder, John Donelson.

Military and political career

In 1791, at the age of 24, Jackson became a prosecutor in Nashville, Tennessee, where he married Rachel Jackson, previously married to Captain Lewis Robards, whom she had divorced a year earlier. Since the divorce proceedings were not yet final, it turned out that the two were married to the same woman, technically involved in bigamy, and the wedding was subsequently cancelled. This story was brought up again during the 1828 presidential election to discredit Jackson. Finally, after finalizing their divorce (the first time in Tennessee history), Andrew and Rachel remarried in 1794 year. Since there were no children from the marriage, the couple adopted two from an orphanage. Andrew and Rachel were also legal guardians of six other boys and two girls.

On June 1, 1796, during the presidency of George Washington, Tennessee joined the Union as the 16th autonomous state. Immediately after the creation of the state, Jackson, through his work, was elected to the local House of Representatives and later elected a judge on the Supreme Court in Tennessee in 1797. Because of his impetuous and often quarrelsome nature, the American politician did not feel comfortable in legislative assemblies and was fed up with the sedentary life of a judge, so in 1804 he decided to retire and become commander of the local police.
In 1812, as the Anglo-American War broke out, Secretary of War James Monroe appointed Jackson commander-in-chief of the southern front, where conflict broke out with the Creek Native Americans, allies of the British. The commander of the militia led his men against the natives in a two-year campaign (1813-1814), at the end of which the Indians had to give up a vast territory of more than 9 million hectares.

After the war ended, Jackson launched a military campaign on behalf of the government of Washington against the Seminole Indians, a tribe based in Florida and later a Spanish possession, guilty of helping the Creek during the conflict with the Americans. During the war, an American general was reported to have been hasty and in bad faith captured a military fort in 1818, located in Spain, which is considered the base of the rebels. This incident sparked protests in Madrid and embarrassed the US government almost to the point of causing a serious diplomatic incident between the two countries, but it ended in 1819. year with the transfer of Florida to the United States in exchange for the abandonment of any American claims to Spanish possessions in Mexico.

Presidential elections and reforms

In 1822, the state legislature nominated him for President of the United States, which was supported by other states, and in 1823 elected him to the US Senate (he resigned in 1825). Jackson consistently denied that he was seeking the presidency, but declared it his duty to serve if elected. In the 1824 presidential campaign, Jackson won both popular and electoral majorities over William Crawford, John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, and John C. Calhoun. When the House of Representatives handed over the presidency to Adams and Adams appointed Clay as Secretary of State, Jackson called the deal a “corrupt deal” that violated the will of the voters. On this accusation, Jackson’s advisers launched the 1828 presidential campaign.

The presidential campaign that followed was one of the dirtiest in the country. Pamphlets and partisan newspapers explored the public and private lives of Jackson and Adams, especially Jackson. The parade of “careless acts” seemed endless, but the hints of moral depravity, as evidenced by Jackson’s marriages, proved most painful. On December 22, 1828, Rachel Jackson died, and her husband claimed that her death was hastened by a smear campaign.

However, in the November 1828 presidential election, Jackson, at age 61, returned to the field with a new political entity, the Democratic Party, which this time succeeded in defeating the outgoing president, thanks to an alliance of small farmers. The West and the agrarians of the north were disappointed with Adams’s economic policy.

On March 4, 1829, he became the first president who did not come from an “aristocratic” family and did not study at a prestigious school: he was a frontier man, exalted by the pioneers of the West and seen with little sympathy by the intellectuals of the North and South of the country. The same John Quincy Adams, his predecessor, did not respect him very much, considering him illiterate. People had the feeling that people came to him with him, and this was proved when, at the inauguration ceremony, he opened the White House to thousands of pioneers, which caused real chaos in the presidential residence. He was a very determined man, absolutely determined to get what he wanted and was an ardent supporter of full democracy.

With the coming to power of Jackson, an operation was actually launched to democratize the political structures of the United States, which had previously been dominated by limited southern land and northern financial oligarchies: restrictions on voting were gradually lifted and secret ballots were introduced. Many public offices, state and local, became elective, the election of presidential voters was entrusted to popular vote, while in the party context, the appointment of party leaders was removed from limited groups of leaders and entrusted to democratically elected bodies. Another period of novelty occurred in the technological and industrial realm: in fact, during his mandate, the first trade union associations arose and the first North American railroad was established. The South Carolina Railroad, opened January 15, 1831.

The main points of his presidency were three: the expropriation of Cherokee lands, the enforcement of South Carolina, and the war against the Second Coast. The Cherokee were an Indian population that settled in Georgia and even gave themselves a constitution along the lines of the American one. When gold was discovered in the area, the state of Georgia was quick to expropriate the land. Jackson, was a supporter of the autonomy of the individual states of the Union and legalized the expropriation of land and the deportation of Indians (the so-called “Way of Tears”) by signing the Act on May 28, 1830 to remove Indians from their lands. Historian Robert W. Remini wrote “One of the worst crimes in U.S. history.”

He also managed to gain the upper hand over Congress by demanding veto power over legislation for his office. For this, he was accused of authoritarianism, since such power was established by the US Constitution. His opponents began (slowly) to coalesce into the Whig party (a name that not surprisingly echoes the British struggle against the absolutism of Charles I).

In November 1832, Jackson was re-elected to a second term by defeating his rival Henry Clay, candidate of the National Republican Party: during this period, on June 15, 1836, Arkansas became part of the Union. At the end of his reign, Michigan was annexed as a state (January 26, 1837). In addition, towards the end of his administration, a severe financial crisis erupted, caused by his harsh protectionist economic policies, bequeathed to his successor Martin Van Buren.

Failed attack, final years and death

Andrew Jackson was also the first American president to be attacked: on January 30, 1835, while on the East Portico to attend the funeral of South Carolina MP Warren R. Davis, he was the victim of a double attack on his life by the hand of Richard Lawrence, an unemployed English artist.

Nicknames for dogs 🐕 alphabetically – ProPlan.ru

When purchasing a dog, you first of all think about choosing a beautiful and sonorous nickname for it. At first, this process seems fascinating and simple: it does not require the advice of an experienced dog handler – the participation of all family members, a positive attitude and a little imagination is enough. However, in reality it turns out that choosing a suitable name for a dog is quite difficult: it should be bright, reflect the individual characteristics of the animal and not cause dissonance among others.

The sooner you give your new pet a name, the better: it will help him get comfortable, get close to you, teach him to respond to the call and speed up the training process. To simplify your task when choosing a nickname, we recommend paying attention to the following criteria:

  • Dog breed. The individual characteristics of the breed can be a good clue when choosing a nickname for dogs. Also, it is important to consider the size of the pet: for example, some names for dogs of small breeds may not be appropriate for representatives of large breeds.

  • Character. Some believe that the name of an animal influences its character. An inverse relationship is also possible: watch the dog for several days, study the features of its behavior and preferences – perhaps they will help you decide on a name.

  • External features. The color of the pet, its height, weight, individual structural features can also play a role in choosing a future nickname.

  • “Sound” of the name. Dog names should be short, easy to remember and acceptable to others. In addition, cynologists do not recommend giving your pet a name that is consonant with basic commands, so as not to complicate training.

If you hosted a themed birthday or are planning a themed party for your toddler’s 2nd birthday, don’t forget to let me know in the comments!

Psssttt… Don’t stress yourself out over a “perfect” birthday party! Your toddler is going to love it anyways. Schedule yourself a day of self-care afterward to recover from all that planning and prep!

#1. Oh Twoodles!

I didn’t expect a Minnie Mouse themed party be one of the top two-year-old birthday party ideas for girls, but this Oh Twodles! theme is one of the cutest! I would recommend only using this theme for your little one if she actually enjoys – or knows what – Minnie Mouse is. Still, the gold and pastel pink combo is gorgeous.

#2.

Twotti Frutti

Twotti Fruitti is for the two-year-old toddler who loves fruit! This 2nd birthday party theme is the perfect theme for an outdoor party in the spring or summer. You can decorate with fruit-themed items and serve healthy snacks based on your toddler’s favorite fruits. Of course, that doesn’t mean you should skip on the sweets altogether! The cake toppers and unique fruit-styled cake pops and cookies are greats options to serve to your guests.

#3. Two Sweet

A personal favorite two-year-old birthday party ideas for girls, Two Sweet is the perfect opportunity to go crazy with pastels – and it’s super easy to decorate for! There are tons of decorations available online and to DIY for Two Sweet (and be reused for future parties). You can also use this as a one-year-old birthday party theme like Tiny Hands Tidy Home did with She’s A Sweet One.

#4. TwoTwo Cute!

Two Two Cute or Tutu Cute, this ballerina inspired two-year-old toddler birthday party theme is absolutely adorable. The tutu gifts? Yes please. I will say the downside is that this can turn into a VERY pink birthday party for your toddler. Still, your toddler may love pink things – I know mine does!

#5. Two the Moon

While I haven’t attended a Two the Moon birthday party for toddler girls, I will be attending a one-year-old space-themed birthday party soon! This theme is so diverse and can be personalized by what your toddler loves – purples, pinks, silvers, gold, and blues! Also, who doesn’t love stars and shiny decor?

#6.

Two Wild

Two Wild is one of the birthday party ideas that I was considering for my own daughter’s second birthday! I really appreciate this one because I’m a huge fan of green – and sometimes when need a break from the constant pastels, pinks, and even purples. Plus, if anything describes a two-year-old it would be a little “wild.”

#7. Tea for Two

Tea for Two brings me back to my daughter’s first birthday party, Addie in Onederland. Tea parties hold a special place in my heart as my great-grandmother was an avid teapot collector and tea party host when I was little. I think tea parties for two-year-olds are not only adorable but can be done in nearly any color palette, making it a great option for when you don’t want to stick with pink. Still, the pastels look gorgeous.

#8. Two Groovy

I’ve had a first-hand experience with a Two Groovy birthday party for a little girl and let’s just say it was absolutely adorable! While it’s one of the more “extra” birthday party themes, it can definitely be executed in the BEST ways. With tons of balloon options, cake toppers, and outfits, you’ll have tons of shopping options – although you may not like the final price (although it’s 100% worth it!).

#9. Taco Twosday

Taco Twosday or Taco Bout Two is one of my absolute faves – we did a similar theme for my son’s baby shower and I must say it makes food easy AND desserts pretty. This one is a bit popular with different versions based on their age so there are plenty of ideas and inspiration to use for your two-year-old’s birthday party if you choose this theme!

how to make a decoration for a children’s party

For a child’s birthday, we want to give him a fairy tale until he grows up and stops believing in miracles. However, we are decorating a children’s holiday from the position of adults: we estimate the budget and decide that ordering themed dishes, posters and balloons is an extra chore. But are there princes and princesses without a fairytale castle? If you save on decorations for decorating a children’s birthday, children will not feel the magical atmosphere of the holiday.

We’ll show you how to accent your decor for a great birthday.

Ideas for decorating a girl’s birthday

Decor for a children’s party at home (with photo)

Starting to decorate the hall, remember that the decor should not contain small details. Babies aged 1 to 3 may put jewelry in their mouths and choke.

Convenient when the decor is easy to dismantle and takes up little storage space – it can be saved and used after a couple of years.

Balls. The simplest, but safe option for decorating a child’s room is multi-colored balloons. Throw them randomly around the room or fill them with helium and let them fly up to the ceiling.

Paper garlands. Streamers with bright flags and congratulations to the birthday girl will help create a festive mood. You can make them yourself from colored cardboard, old comics, scraps of fabric and wallpaper, or buy them ready-made from a party supply store.

Fanta . Bright rosettes made of corrugated paper, otherwise they are also called “forfeits”, will give the room a festive look. You can experiment with such a decoration: some decorators hang forfeits very close to each other, even with an overlay, while others choose 5-10 rosettes of different shapes and colors and place them individually.

Tissue pom poms. Spectacular and inexpensive, fluffy pom-pom balls will successfully fit into any interior. Most often they are glued to the walls or hung from the ceiling by a string. To make this decor, fold 10+ pieces of paper in silence into a pile, fold it like an accordion in 2 cm increments, tie with a tourniquet in the middle and open layer by layer.

Honeycomb balls. For such crafts, you need to take thicker paper. Glue at least 10 sheets together or connect them with a stapler every 4 cm. The next step is to cut out half of the shape we want to get from the blank. Remember how we used to make paper snowflakes when we were kids? The principle is the same. It remains only to open the craft, attach loops and decorate the room.

Photo collage. Walls will look more elegant if you decorate them with a composition of the most successful shots of your princess or an achievement metric, as in the photo. Here are some collage ideas:

  • Photos by years, starting from the moment the girl was born, will show how the birthday girl grew and changed;
  • If you add a poster with questions and riddles about the hero of the occasion to the photos, you will get a fun interactive with guests;
  • Place your daughter’s picture in her favorite cartoon scenes. This is easy to do in Photoshop, and if you do not have this program, create a collage by cutting out the necessary elements with scissors.

Paper wind vanes. This children’s spinner toy will look great in the decor of a festive table, candy bar or photo zone. And making such a decor is as easy as shelling pears: take cocktail straws, multi-colored cardboard 15 * 15 cm and buttons. Make 4 cuts on the paper in the direction from the corners to the center, fold accordingly and secure with a button.

Table decor. At a princess party, even the candy bar should be royally dressed up. It will be decorated with a homemade tablecloth with flounces: it is not necessary to sew them on, it is enough to stick them on adhesive tape or fix them with a stapler.

Loft decoration for children’s birthday

Party in Sofia the First style

Invitations

For a birthday in the style of Princess Sofia, you can cut out invitations in the form of a dress, crown or pocket mirror and add tulle to the craft rhinestones.

Decor

Draperies from tulle and organza, magic flowers, crowns, candelabra and candlesticks will help to create the surroundings of the throne room. And give guests in the photo zone fans, masquerade masks and other paraphernalia of the royal ball.

Do not forget to stick to a single color scheme: in the cartoon “Sofia the First” the leading color is lilac.

Decor in delicate shades will harmoniously look in the interiors of this bright loft at VDNKh:

There is everything for a comfortable stay for children: light music, speakers for a mini disco and a lounge area with soft sofas. At the request of the guests, the administrator can hang a swing in the loft.

Children’s menu

Cover the cake and cupcakes with rose-purple cream and buy dishes with the image of characters – you can easily find them in online stores by querying the search engine.

In addition to sweets, you can also arrange a buffet with gourmet snacks: bagels, quail skewers and waffles.

Children’s birthday table – decoration and recipes

Party decoration for a girl of 7 years old in the style of Moana

Invitations

Postcards can be as with the image of the main character Moana and her comrade Maui, and just in tropical theme with palm leaves, coconuts and flamingos.

Decor

During the holiday, all guests are residents of the Motunui tribe. Garlands of hibiscus flowers, compositions of candles and rose petals are suitable for decorating the site. Ask your friends if they have totems and drums brought from African countries or Polynesia.

Imitation of torches will look spectacular in the photo zone, and flower necklaces and fabric bandages on the hips can be handed out to those taking pictures.

For tropical decor, this lawn loft is perfect:

The studio also has a costume rental in case one of the guests arrives without an outfit.

Children’s menu

When decorating a candy bar for a birthday in the style of “Moana”, put a composition of exotic fruits next to the cake: pineapple, mango, dragonfruit and papaya. Even an ordinary ice cream will fit into the party style if served in an orange bowl. But be careful when offering citrus fruits to young children, they can cause allergies.

Take inspiration from the Hawaiians to decorate their salads with their traditional lomi lomi or poke. It will be especially great if you can replace plastic cups for drinks with coconut shells.

Gravity Falls 10th Anniversary Loft Decoration

Decor

The main action in the cartoon takes place in the Mystery Shack, the cabinet of curiosities and the souvenir shop of the grandfather of the main characters Mabel and Dipper – let’s try to repeat its interiors.

For the entourage, prepare esoteric props: candles, a rosary, a magic ball, a rabbit’s foot and papier-mâché skulls. Grandpa Ford’s mysterious diary will become an album for congratulations from guests, and place the garden gnomes that chased Mabel in the first episode around the site.

Since the town of Gravity Falls is located in the middle of a dense forest, the site needs to be turned into a pine grove! You can make 3D constructions out of cardboard or stick tree stickers on the walls. Another option is to take a festive cap and wrap it with green tinsel.

The Mystery Shack is the main attraction of the town, and what is a tourist place without signs? Buy plywood boards from a hardware store and sign with a permanent marker.

The decor in the style of the Mystery Hut will look great in the interiors of this loft with a greenhouse:

The advantage of this site is that there is a separate game room for interactive with animators. In addition, a canvas for showing films and a projector will allow you to review your favorite cartoon series.

Children’s menu

Candy bar and table decor can be dedicated to one character, usually girls are crazy about Mabel Pines. The heroine loves sequins, sweaters, pink, unicorns, rainbows, and her pet pig, Waddles. It will be great if you stick patches on disposable plates, and place water bottles in woolen knitted pockets.

For food, place crackers, popcorn, and American apple pie with ice cream on the table – the characters eat them almost every episode. On pizza slices, lay out the silhouette of Bill Cipher, the main supervillain of the franchise, with olives, and decorate the birthday cake with the gingerbread Mystery Shack.

Ideas for decorating a boy’s birthday

Decor for a children’s party at home with (photo)

Tableware. Let’s bring plastic dishes and paper cups to life by gluing funny paper faces and eyes to them. Self-adhesive colored paper can be found in any stationery store.

Seating cards. To avoid confusion about who will sit next to the birthday person, stick the names of the guests on the backs of the chairs. And for kids who can’t read yet, pictures of their favorite characters are suitable.

Tepee . If your son is a fan of books and films about Indians, a wigwam is a must for his birthday. Get 4-6 timbers from the hardware store and 3 meters of cotton fabric for the sides. We sew them and fasten them to the frame – you’re done!

Wall decor. If there is very little time left for decor, then here is a creative way out of the situation – make funny labels with congratulations to the birthday man, his photos and drawings. You can stick the tags on scrapbooking tape, it is often sold in bright colors or with funny prints on the non-adhesive side.

Children’s birthday party in the loft

The loft usually has more space than the average apartment, so that children can take part in active games with animators. Modern equipment will allow you to arrange a mini disco or karaoke, and the neighbors will not complain about the noise. Here are a few decor options that can be implemented in a loft.

A celebration in the style of Malyshariki for a child of 3 years old

Decor

Cartoonists painted Malyshariki in pink, blue and purple. Balloons, pom-poms and streamers can be ordered in the same colors.

Decorate the doorways and the photo zone with decorative rain – this will give the room an elegant look. Among other decorations, you can put a large cardboard logo of “Kids” with the name of the son instead of the name of the program, a soft toy or a poster-number with the child’s age.

This decor is easy to implement in one of our lofts:

From 1800 to 3900 ₽

for 1 hour

Air #3755

Volgogradsky prospect

12 min. on foot

1 review

Area

110 m²

seats

50 people

The loft is functionally divided into two rooms: in one you can organize a festive table, and in the other – interactive activities and a photo zone. There is private parking for 200 places next to the site, so that guests of the holiday can leave their car in a safe place.

Decoration of children’s dishes

The birthday boy will definitely like Kroshik, Nyushenka and Hedgehog made of mastic on a birthday cake. But if you are afraid to give your baby edible figurines with small details, transferring images to desserts using wafer paper is gaining popularity.

It would be nice if the appetizers on the buffet were in the form of finger food – servings for one bite. Small children can get their costumes dirty if they eat with cutlery.

Baby themed tableware can be hard to find, but stickers are available at any stationery store. They can decorate drink cups, cookie boxes and holiday caps.

7-10 year old boy’s birthday decoration in the style of comics Marvel and DC

Invitations

The atmosphere of the holiday begins with an invitation: style a postcard with the time and place of the meeting like a movie ticket or pass it in an envelope marked “Top Secret”.

Decor

Comic strips can be cut out into streamers and garlands, and a warning sign will look original in front of the entrance: “Please lay down all weapons, do not fly around the hall and do not use telekinesis.”

Buy posters of Marvel and DC heroes to decorate your walls and replace the superhero faces with photos of your son and his friends. And if a disco is planned, then use decor that glows in the dark: lava lamps, electric garlands and fluorescent paint.

We have a loft where this decor would look good:

An American diner-style loft with soft ottoman bags and graffiti on the walls. In such a place it will seem that Iron Man, Thor or Captain America is about to enter.

Decoration of children’s dishes

Skewers with themed stickers are suitable for decorating a sweet table. For example, you can insert a skewer with the Spider-Man emblem and the signature “Peter Parker recommends” into cupcakes, and put a sign “Caution! Contains kryptonite.

Definitely the theme will be traditional American cuisine and even fast food: French fries, assorted mini-burgers, macaroni and cheese, apple pie with ice cream or berry cobbler.

Wherever you celebrate the holiday, at home or in the loft, let your child’s birthday become special and memorable.

Birthday – 2 years for a girl

There are different ways to celebrate a girl’s birthday at 2 years old. By this age, the preferences of babies are already clear – some love noisy companies, others are shy and feel comfortable only in the company of close people. In order for the celebration to go off with a bang, you need to take into account the tastes of the birthday girl and the invited kids.

Usually, the celebration of a daughter’s birthday at 2 years old means a bright children’s holiday, and not a company of adults with a plentiful feast. In order not to offend either one or the other, it is better to divide the holiday into two parts – for kids and for adult guests and spend them at different times.

Where can I celebrate my child’s 2nd birthday?

There are three great options for a 2 year old daughter’s birthday party. All kinds of children’s cafes and entertainment centers have been very popular lately, where they take over the organization of fun for kids.

Parents only agree on details and pay money. This is not only a tribute to fashion, but also very convenient, because you do not need to stand all day in the kitchen and prepare the hall for receiving guests, and then wash mountains of dishes.

The most budgetary is the traditional birthday at home, at 2 years old it is quite relevant, because the birthday girl is still small and can be capricious in an unfamiliar environment. When choosing this option, you do not need to pay for the rent of the premises and you do not have to worry about the quality of treats prepared for the kids, because everything is done by mother’s caring hands.

In summer, parents can celebrate their 2-year-old daughter’s birthday in a forest clearing or in the yard. Kids will be happy to frolic in the fresh air, and after games and competitions, you can have a small picnic with simple dishes. In order to take all the noisy company and props to nature, you will need at least a minibus.

Decorating a room for a birthday party 2 years old

Little girls, just like boys, love balloons. That’s why there can’t be many of them. Decorated with compositions of balloons, the birthday girl’s room and the reception hall will delight the little one. For home entertainment, a children’s trampoline can be rented if the size of the room allows. On the street, tree branches are decorated with paper lanterns and garlands.

Ideas for the 2nd birthday

Your girl’s 2nd birthday will be remembered for a long time if you invite funny clowns to it. They always have a lot of fun in store for kids of all ages. In addition, specially trained people have a wonderful approach to all kids and love their work.

Babies at this age are already beginning to copy their mother and love to decorate themselves. Applying face painting on small faces will be good fun. It is completely harmless and is easily washed off with water.

Be sure to capture in a photo or video how the birthday of the little princess went, because the children grow up so quickly, and after some five to ten years, you will look at these frames together with nostalgia to remember the time when your daughter was still quite small.

Children’s room for two children

When there is only one child in a family, it is not difficult for him to arrange a nursery for him. Another thing is when you have two kids, especially if it’s a daughter and a son. Then the task becomes more complicated, because it is necessary to distinguish and create a personal space for each of them. We have created a collection of ideas for you to solve this difficult problem.

Home kindergarten

Today there is an acute problem of lack of places in ordinary public kindergartens. Yes, kids are getting sick more often now than ever before. Mom has to stay at home for two weeks in order to give the child to the garden for a week, and so on in a circle. Private gardens are very expensive. An ideal solution to the problem can serve as a home kindergarten.

Kindergarten Montessori

Montessori child development is gaining more and more popularity among modern parents. Having studied approaches to the upbringing and education of children, they increasingly choose such schools of development. However, now there are full-fledged kindergartens based on the principles of Montessori. We will talk about them in our article.

Kindergarten at home

Kindergarten at home is a great alternative for those who do not want to send their children to state preschool institutions, and private ones are too expensive. These kindergartens work on the principle of home education and at the same time, the child is under qualified supervision, and you have the opportunity to work.

20 Girl Names That Were Originally More Popular For Boys

Sometime in the mid-’80s, my mother delivered a piece of groundbreaking news in the form of an offhanded comment about a man she knew named Stacy. I distinctly recall the shock I felt.

Boys can be named Stacy?” I gasped, and my mom laughed at my surprise. But it was true – all the people I knew with that name (and it was the ‘80s, when Stacy was in the top 100 girls’ names, so I knew several) were female. There was a Stacy who lived down the street. A Stacy at my school. My “Hot Looks Model” doll, with her fashionable red jumpsuit and yellow sandals, was named Stacey. And of course there was Stacey McGill, my favorite character in The Baby-Sitters Club series.

In my mind, Stacy was a girls’ name. Period.

Apparently, though, it wasn’t always so. The name is said to be derived from the Greek male name Eustace, and was used exclusively for men until it fell out of favor around the 16th century. When it re-emerged in the mid-20th century, it rose to popularity as a female name instead. And now, it’s hard to imagine that a male was ever named Stacy (but I mean, if you’re a dude named Stacy, no offense).

I ran into something similar when I was pregnant with my second son. When people would ask me if I had a name picked out yet, I’d tell them “Yes, it’s Cameron” – to which they would immediately respond, “Oh, so you’re having a girl!”

I’m assuming everyone was thinking of actress Cameron Diaz, who had done 11 movies in the decade my son was born (and more before that), so it’s understandable. But even though Cameron is still more popular for boys (#60 for males vs. #535 for girls with this spelling at last official count), my son still runs into a lot of girls with his name, and it makes me wonder if his name will be the “Stacy” of the future.

Right now, Cameron falls into the “unisex names” category, and there are plenty of other great ones: Jordan, Sage, Kendall, Reese, and Avery, just to name a (very) few. But what of the names that began as male names and are now almost exclusively used for girls? Several of them were surprising.

(All data comes from the Social Security Administration for the top 1,000 most popular male names from 1900-present.)

Allison – peaked as a male name in 1903 at #657, and fell off the male charts in 1947. Notable dudes named Allison include: screenwriter Allison Burnett and sports journalist Allison Danzig.

Vivian – peaked in 1904 at #513, and fell off the male charts in 1934. Notable dudes named Vivian include: heavy metal guitarist Vivian Campbell, educator/human rights activist Vivian Wilson Henderson, and explorer Sir Vivian Fuchs.

Ashley – peaked in 1980 at #282, and fell off the male charts in 1995. Notable dudes named Ashley include: football players Ashley Sheppard and Ashley Lelie; model Ashley “Ash” Stymest; and singer Ashley Parker Angel.

Beverly – peaked in 1915 at #523, and fell off the male charts in 1955. Notable dudes named Beverly include: Judge Beverly M. Vincent, author/minister Beverly Carradine, and editor (and grandfather of Uma Thurman) Beverly Reid Thurman, Jr.

Addison – peaked in 1986 at #51, and fell off the male charts in 2010. Notable dudes named Addison include: actor Addison Richards, and baseball players Addison Russell and Addison Reed.

Cassidy – peaked in 1983 at #669, and fell off the male charts in 1993. Notable dudes named Cassidy include: pro wrestler Cassidy O’Reill, and rapper Cassidy (whose birth name is actually Barry Adrian Reese).

Dana – peaked in 1954 at #166, and fell off the male charts in 1998. Notable dudes named Dana include: actors Dana Carvey, Dana Ashbrook, and Dana Andrews; journalist/columnist Dana Milbank; and film producer Dana Brunetti.

Hilary – peaked in 1902 at #888, and fell off the male charts in 1932. Notable dudes named Hilary include: philosopher Hilary Whitehall Putnam, and illustrator Hilary Knight.

Lindsay – peaked in 1960 at #633, and fell off the male charts in 1986. Notable dudes named Lindsay include: painter Lindsay Dawson, actor/singer Lindsay Crosby, and football players Lindsay Knapp and Lindsay Scott.

Mackenzie – peaked in 1994 at #366, and fell off the male charts in 2002. Notable dudes named Mackenzie include: actor Mackenzie Astin, singer Mackenzie Bourg, and artist Mackenzie Thorpe.

Shelby – peaked in 1938 at #386, and fell off the male charts in 2000. Notable dudes named Shelby include: novelist/historian Shelby Foote, pro wrestler Shelby Wilson, baseball player Shelby Miller, and U.S. Senator/17th Governor of Illinois Shelby Cullom.

Annie – peaked in 1901 at #466, and fell off the male charts in 1938. While there are no men in the spotlight named Annie, there are a few notable male Annes, like writer Anne DeVries, politician Anne Vermeer, and painter Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson.

Lauren – peaked in 1937 at #625, and fell off the male charts in 1990. There are no famous Laurens (aside from designer Ralph, but that’s his last name), but the Loren spelling has a few notables, including animator (and creator of “Bob’s Burgers”) Loren Bouchard and anthropologist/writer Loren Eisley.

Joyce – peaked in 1932 at #625, and fell off the male charts in 1947. Notable dudes named Joyce include: novelist Joyce Cary, and poet Alfred Joyce Kilmer.

Margaret – peaked in 1907 at #392, and fell off the male charts in 1944. There are no notable male Margarets, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist – over 2,000 boys have been given this name since 1900.

Whitney – peaked in 1986 at #567, and fell off the male charts in 1989. Notable dudes named Whitney include: civil rights activist Whitney Young, Jr., football player Whitney Mercilus, investor/philanthropist Whitney Tilson, and magician Whitney “Whit” Haydn.

Leslie – peaked in 1902 at #85, and fell off the male charts in 1998. Notable dudes named Leslie include: actors Leslie Nielsen and Leslie Odom, Jr.; comedian Leslie “Bob” Hope; and former U.S. President Leslie Lynch King, Jr. (birth name of Gerald Ford).

Madison – peaked in 1903 at #514, and fell off the male charts in 2005. Notable dudes named Madison include: football player Madison Hedgecock, football coach Madison “Matty” Bell, novelist Madison Smartt Bell, and novelist Madison Cooper, Jr.

Meredith – peaked in 1941 at #582, and fell off the male charts in 1955. Notable dudes named Meredith include: playwright/composer Meredith Willson, and Nobel Prize winner Wendell Meredith Stanley.

Evelyn – peaked in 1907 at #787, and fell off the male charts in 1931. Notable dudes named Evelyn include: novelist Evelyn Waugh and financier Evelyn deRothschild.

It’s interesting to note that the vast majority of name crossovers are from male to female, with only a very few exceptions: Tatum, for example. It first appeared as a female given name thanks to child actress Tatum O’Neal, but in 2010, it jumped onto the boys’ top 1000 most popular names, and as of last count it had risen to spot #598.

When the parents of yesteryear named their boys Beverly or Margaret, they likely had no idea that their young sons would be the bearers of names that would eventually be more popular for females. So maybe someday, when my great-great-great grandchildren are learning about their family history, they’ll be surprised to hear about a boy named Cameron … just as I was, so long ago, about a boy named Stacy.

100+ Masculine Girl Names (With Meanings and Origins)

Are you considering a masculine or androgynous name for your baby girl? Then check out this list of awesome 100 masculine girl names, complete with meanings and origins.

Many of the names on this list are boy names that used to be girl names, and are now being given to girls more frequently. Many names below are slightly masculine girl names, while many are names that are traditionally male but sound great on a girl.

Reasons to give your girl a masculine name

There are many reasons to give girls a traditionally “masculine” name. Personally, I think it’s time to break some antiquated gender traditions, and one of the easiest ways to do that is to give babies beautiful names that might be a little different than what people traditionally expect. For example, there are tons of beautiful flower names for boys, and the masculine girl names below are actually quite beautiful.

Related article: Hippie Names for Girls and Boys

Another reason is that sadly, having a gender-neutral or androgynous name can still be advantageous in life compared to women with more traditionally feminine names. For example, many women authors still write under a men’s name, or initialize their first name (example: J.K. Rowling), so that their novels are purchased by men and women and taken more seriously.

And of course, gender bias in the workplace still exists. Everything from not getting a callback for a resume because of a name to simply forming biases in people’s heads when they see a name on an email can still hinder a woman’s career, unfortunately.

Because of these reasons many parents want to give their girls androgynous, gender-neutral, or masculine baby names. But aside from that, the names listed below are simply beautiful and any girl would be lucky to names like these!

Besides, trends change and names go in and out of style often! Names that used to be men’s names are often typically used for girls, and vice versa.

Identical female and male names: list

A person’s name is not just a combination of sounds, it carries a secret meaning. Our ancestors believed that by naming the baby by any name, they endowed him with certain character traits and even fate. We offer you to get acquainted with the variety of identical male and female names, find out the reasons for their appearance, consider the list in Russian and English, learn brief information from other languages.

Causes

We know that there are names that can be called both boys and girls, for example, Alexander and Alexandra, Eugene and Eugenia, this phenomenon does not cause any surprise. But what is the reason for this coincidence? First of all, this is the tradition of naming children after Orthodox saints, which was firmly established in Rus’ after the adoption of Christianity. But since the saint is a specific person, a child of the same gender could be named in his honor. And the modification of a specific name helped to solve the problem.

The next factor that influenced the emergence of the same female and male names, the list of which will be presented below, is the unequal number of both in the Russian language. So, in the “Dictionary of Old Russian Proper Names” compiled by N.M. Tupikovs, there are more than 5 thousand male variants, while female ones – 50. In 1891, the month-word contained 900 male and slightly more than 200 female names. Such inequality made it necessary to take the male variation and transform it into a female one.

A lot of names appeared after the revolution, when a woman began to perform the same duties as a man. And the main source of such education was the male form. Hence, there is an almost complete coincidence (the key and often the only difference is the endings -а, -я in female variations, for example, Vladlen – Vladlena). As a result, the number of names for boys and girls in the language became almost equal.

Slavic variants

Let’s get acquainted with what names can be both female and male. First of all, this is an ancient layer that came to us from the Slavs. In these times, great importance was attached to the naming of a person, people believed that the name given to a newborn would largely determine his character, occupation and fate. Most often, paired names in ancient times were given to twins. For example, if two babies were born at once, they could well be called Borislav and Borislav, these ancient variants appeared in honor of the god of the winds, Boreas.

Here are some more examples.

There were also variants that completely coincided in sound, for example, Will – both a male and female name with the meaning of “free man”, Share – with the meaning of “fate”. Now they are almost out of use.

So, as we see, female names were formed among the Slavs by adding the endings -a to the male ones, sometimes the process went in the opposite direction, then the suffix -k was added to the female form.

When trade with the Greeks appeared in Rus’, after the adoption of Christianity, new names came along with overseas goods – Alexander (Alexandra), Julius and Julia, Anastasia and Anastasius.

Soviet period

From the point of view of paired names and names in general, the time after the revolution and the period of Soviet power is very interesting. It was then that many options appeared, some of them are used to this day (and not all owners know the “secret” of their occurrence), while others cannot cause anything but a smile. Let’s get acquainted with Russian identical male and female names of the Soviet period. There are quite a few of them:

  • Barricade and Barricade came from the common noun and are not used now.
  • Vladilen and Vladilena, Vili and Vila, Vilen and Vilena, Viliy and Viliya – from “Vladimir Ilyich Lenin” in various abbreviations of the name and use of initials.
  • Vilor and Vilora originate from the slogan that sounds like “Vladimir Ilyich Lenin – Organizer of the Revolution.”
  • Gertrude and Gertrude are the hero and heroine of labor, respectively. Interestingly, the Soviet version is in no way connected with the Western European Gertrude, an exclusively female name.
  • Krasarma and Krasarma – a strange name for a modern person comes from the “Red Army”, as children were called in the 20-30s of the last century.
  • Lemar and Lemara – from two surnames, Lenin and Marx. And vice versa, Marilene and Marilena are from two surnames Marx and Lenin.
  • Lenin and Lenina (with an emphasis on the letter “i”), met in the 20-30s of the last century.
  • Tractor and Tractor. These variants became very popular in 1923, when the first tractor was produced by the Soviet industry.

Here are two more funny options – Oyushminald and Oyushminalda, Chelnaldin and Chelnaldina – respectively, O. Yu. Schmidt and Chelyuskin on an ice floe. Most of the variants of this period are gone.

Modern Russians

Let’s continue our acquaintance with paired names, in our time there are also quite a few of them. Their short list looks like this.

As you can see, most of the paired names have almost the same sound and meaning, only in some examples the subtleties of the meaning differ.

Foreign

Let’s give examples of the same male and female names in English. This is Alex and Alexa, Christian and Christina. The name Alex has several more female counterparts – Alexis, Alexia. Two names come from the male “Adam” at once – Addison – the son of Adam and Addison – the daughter of Adam, their spelling is somewhat different. More examples:

  • Alan and Alanna – “beautiful” and “beautiful”.
  • Bert and Berta – “bright, -th”. There is also a female version of “Bertie” with a similar meaning.
  • Brandon and Brenda.
  • Brook – the male and female versions are the same, the name means “brook”.
  • Daniel and Daniella.
  • Eric and Erika.
  • Gabriel and Gabriella.
  • George and Georgia.
  • Kyle and Kylie.
  • Michelle, both male and female.
  • Nicholas and Nicole.
  • Patrick and Patricia.

These are the same male and female English names.

Examples from other languages

It is very interesting that paired names are found in so many languages of the world. For example, in Spanish there are variants of Alejandra and Alejandro, Carla and Carlos, Andrea and Andres, Claudia and Claudio, Haun and Juanita.

In African countries, the names most often coincide, meaning the order or time of the birth of a child. For example:

  • Baako – born (born) first.
  • Dubaku is the 11th child in the family, both a girl and a boy.
  • Idouu – who appeared (appeared) into the world after the twins.

There are a lot of paired names among the Yakuts, who attached great importance to observing the tradition of naming the baby. For example, Ayaan – a name that could be worn by both boys and girls, has the meaning of “journey”.

About the fate of a woman with a male name

Modern research has proven a strange fact – a woman whose name coincides with a man’s name or has its form most often achieves serious success in life. With what it is connected, while it is not clear. There is a hypothesis that male names are perceived more seriously by ear, therefore, such women have a completely different attitude, they are seen as strong, which on a subconscious level leaves its mark on their behavior. The greatest results await them in the legal sphere, politics.

These are the same male and female names, we made sure that their list is quite extensive.

Crazy: 10 most attractive female names according to Russian men

A person’s name is an important component of his personality, energy code. That is why many future parents cannot decide for months what to name their baby when he is born. Judging by the published statistics of the registry offices of Moscow, in 2021 the most popular names among newborn girls were: Sofia, Maria, Anna, Alice and Eva . And this “top 5” rating practically does not change from year to year. However, it is impossible not to notice the growth of the trend for unusual female names. So, for example, last year 49 Lad, 47 Pelagia, 34 Marth, 5 Radoslav and 4 Fevronya were born in the capital. In addition, Apollonia, Marceline, Augustine, Zemfira, Lolita, Mary, Teresa, Malvina, Ariely, Medea, Electra and even the Muses now live in Moscow.

But the trends and popularity of certain female names does not mean that men like them. After all, the sexuality of a name is a completely different phenomenon, which (according to psychologists) encourages a person during his pronunciation to manifest a new spectrum of emotions, and sometimes even contributes to the emergence of excitement. This is a subconscious reaction that is difficult to explain with science and mathematical formulas. However, scientists do not lose hope to figure out why some female names seem to men more sexual than others.

Some of them are convinced that it’s all about the “sensual” sequence of letters and combinations of specific sounds. According to this theory, the owners of names in which “ai”, “eo”, “ia” and other bundles of vowels occur are perceived by others as attractive, artistic and creative natures (in other words, the most feminine and sexy). If the girl’s name contains the letters “zh”, “j”, “nn”, “ll”, “mm” – she is characterized by high emotionality. And here is one “l” , on the contrary, indicates the gentleness, restraint and modesty of the lady. “M” is contained in the names of responsive and empathic girls, and “ks”, “x”, “h”, “c” and “z” indicate that you will never get bored with such a lady, because she is full of surprises and prone to adventures. Open syllables in names that end in the letter “a” or “o” also increase the sexual charge of the name.

According to psychologists, the sexuality of a name can also be influenced by the associative array that exists around it in the public mind. For example, when mentioning names such as Marilyn or Sophie many men come up with images of sex symbols of the 20th century. Varvara and Daria refer to the Slavic culture, our roots, which also causes sympathy for their owners. And, of course, men subconsciously like names, in the historical interpretation of which there are indications of the gender characteristics of women that distinguish them from the opposite sex: Anna (kind, merciful), Maria (noble, beloved), Louise (gentle).

Arguably the largest survey on “The Sexiest Names in the World” was conducted by Laura Wattenberg, founder of Baby Name Wizard, an online platform that helps parents choose a name for their child. This study, which lasted 5 years, involved thousands of Internet users. Summing up, Laura published a list of female names that men most often distinguished from the rest. It included: Scarlett, Nicolette, Natalia, Anais, Paulina, Alessandra, Chanel, Soraya, Adriana and Juliana .

Of course, many of them are rare and unusual for Russia. Therefore, in our country, the rating of the sexuality of female names looks different. For 2.5 months, Russian sociologists conducted a survey asking men about which female names seem most attractive to them. After analyzing the answers of about 50,000 respondents, they were able to compile their own rating. Its leaders are: Ekaterina, Anastasia and Victoria . The top ten sexiest female names according to Russian men also included: Maria, Elena, Natalia, Tatyana, Valentina, Xenia and Irina ( read also: “Numerology in letters: how the name affects your destiny”) .

Why did these names get into the rating? And what associations do they evoke in men?

Ekaterina. The militantly heartfelt sound of this name creates a picture of a dynamic and strong element. Associated with thunder and powerful showers, it describes a passionate and vibrant nature that attracts men like a magnet.

Anastasia. This name harmoniously combines such features as tenderness and reliability, simplicity and lightness. Its energy is softer than that of the name Catherine, but no less impetuous and stimulating the male imagination.

Victoria. The owners of this name, as a rule, are emotional, sensual and expressive. But with those who are really dear to them, they know how to be gentle and caring. For this balance, men love them.

Maria. In the energy of the name Maria, seriousness and responsiveness, passion and emotional detachment are intertwined. Strict and cold-blooded with strangers, such a girl prefers to give her warmth to her family and loved ones.

Elena. Forever connected in the public mind with the epithet “Beautiful”, this name is perceived by men as a symbol of all-conquering beauty and the feminine. It resembles a smoothly flowing stream of light – attractive, changeable and alluring.

Natalia. The name Natalya, beloved by men from all over the world, has a very strong light energy. It combines dreaminess with purposefulness, and gentleness with sparkling optimism. Next to the owners of this name, men feel good and calm.

Tatyana. This is an emotional and solid name. As a rule, it is worn by strong-willed individuals – decisive, sometimes spontaneous, self-confident and independent of the opinions of others. These women are to be admired.

Valentine. The smoothness and iridescence of the sound of this name draws an image of oncoming and dissolving waves. Its owner can be a wise wife, a good housewife and a caring mother.

(All data comes from the Social Security Administration for the top 1,000 most popular male names from 1900-present. )

Classic 1st Grade Books for a New Generation

What were your favorite 1st grade books? Dive deep into your memories and I bet you’ll pull out several of these beloved classics right along with the warmth and laughter that went along with them!

First grade is the year of missing teeth, tying shoes, and…READING!  Remember the first time you discovered you could read a book on your own? Wow! What a moment!

While many kids begin to learn how to read in kindergarten, 1st grade is when they really take off and soar!  Even children who had no formal kindergarten instruction quickly sail through the ABCs in first grade and learn how to push those sounds together to make words.   It is a magical year!

Reading Levels of 1st Grade Books

If you have glanced at a reading level chart, you’ll notice right away that a lot of different levels are represented in 1st grade books!  Amazingly, first graders can range from Fountas & Pinnell level C all the way up to level H, making it super important that you know your child’s reading level before heading to the library! And don’t worry, if you have no idea what reading levels even are and how to find out, I got you covered.

First graders go from barely being able to read at the beginning of the year to becoming fluent readers ready for simple paragraphs and early chapter books.  What a remarkable transition!  Some children even move beyond level and are ready for 2nd grade books. Significantly, 1st grade books (and teachers!) cover more concepts in language arts than any other grade level.

High Quality 1st Grade Books

Despite the variety and availability today of so many novel 1st grade books for beginning readers, there is value in introducing our youngest readers to the classics. There are many vintage treasures geared specifically to first graders and beginning readers!

The classic 1st grade books market is dominated by Dr. Seuss, Arnold Lobel, and Nathaniel Benchley, but there are several other inspiring authors who contribute to our list as well. Plus, I also snuck in a few relatively newer books that are destined to become classics because they are already so loved by children today.

What is considered a classic?

I like Italo Calvino’s definition, “A classic is a book which has never exhausted all it has to say to its readers.” These engaging stories capture our children’s heart today just as meaningfully as they did our own years ago.

Stories shape a child’s mind so I chose only good quality literature that focuses on family, friendship, simplicity, beauty, and the good things in life. These 1st grade books are listed below roughly in order from Fountas & Pinnell reading levels E – J, becoming gradually more challenging so beginning readers can make a step-by-step transition to confident, fluent readers!

List of recommended literature for grade 1 under the program “Perspective”

A child learns a lot from books, so reading should be encouraged and supported. Oddly enough, mothers mostly read to babies, and from the age of three, books begin to fade into the background, it is sad to realize this. On the contrary, the circle of books should expand, because the child is now able to understand more complex things, he can now feel and live the book along with its characters. Reading with parents and reading on your own will help you perform better in class at school. But what should a first grader read? This article lists school literature for reading in the first grade under the “Perspective” program. The list is based on what works will be mentioned in school textbooks for this program. Both my wife and I grew up in the boys and girls club as well as parks and rec. this organization is extremely convenient for those who need the additional care after school for a low and affordable price. It helps out tremendously and the staff is very nice! Great job!

Crow Lake – Mary Lawson » 📚 Loveread Free Online Library

And Jackson and Arthur were left alone. Rumor has it that three years before the death of his father, Arthur stopped talking to him at all, but just go and prove it – and at dinner? How would they know Arthur didn’t say “Pass the salt” or “What did you do with the bread knife?” I know one thing, Arthur was glad when old Jackson was buried! That’s exactly what I’m saying, I was at the funeral. Arthur’s mouth broke into a smile, all through the service. I wouldn’t be surprised if he returned when everyone left, and danced barefoot on the grave!

And the next day he jumped into the saddle and set off on the same road, and after a month and a half he returned with his young wife.

I looked anxiously at Miss Vernon. A premonition grew in me, bad, almost ominous, as if in the depths of my soul I knew from the very beginning how the matter would end. As if I was born with this knowledge, but only now it has come to light.

Miss Vernon nodded as if she understood and shared my feelings.

“Well, young Mrs. Pye has arrived,” she continued. – Nice girl. The eyes are large and blue. In fact, she looks like Arthur’s mother.

He lived with Arthur in a big gray house. For the whole house alone, why not a new life? A year later she gave birth to a child, a year later – the second. Six in all, three boys and three girls, just right. And everything would be fine. Yes, but… guess what. Arthur quarreled with everyone. Until one. Girls jumped out of marriage, barely out of diapers, just to get out of the house, you know? I don’t know where they went, but none of them came back. And two of the boys also left. The same dear as their uncles …

Ms. Vernon shook her head and clicked her tongue.

– That’s why all the women in their family must have disliked this road! As if there was a sign hanging there: “There is no going back.” Like in the fairy tale that we were told in childhood. About how a mountain of children devoured – well, you know, there is also about rats.

I nodded.

– So what was its name? All the names are out of my head. It makes me angry, I have no strength.

– Pied Piper of Hamelin.

– Yes, yes. All the children were swallowed up by this mountain. That’s Mrs. Pye, right, so it seemed. And all the women in their family. Everyone leaves, on the same road …

I imagined that road, whitish, dusty, unremarkable. Exit, salvation. I myself wanted to walk away along it, but even then – and at that time I was completely consumed by resentment and anger, poor Miss Vernon saw me from the most unattractive side – even then I knew that I did not want this as much as Pai- junior.

– Well, there is one son left. Guess who.

I went over the generations in my memory, comparing her story with what I knew so far, and then it dawned on me: it was him, there was no one else.

– Calvin?

– He is the best. Calvin Pye. He stayed. It seems to me that he hated his father more than any of them. And he was more afraid of him. And yet he remained, out of stubbornness. It was hard for him, apparently. He was thin, undersized. Only by the age of eighteen he got stronger, and before that, work was hard for him. And Arthur was yelling at him nonstop…

I mentally drew all the characters in her story, but for the life of me, I couldn’t imagine Calvin as a boy, Lori stood before my eyes. Lori, short, frail, from morning till night he toiled in the field, and always from his father – always! I heard only swearing.

“He never answered,” Ms. Vernon continued, and it took me a moment to realize that it was Calvin. “Even when I grew up. Didn’t decide. I was afraid. He stood silently and listened, swallowing grievances. His resentment burned him from the inside.

So, at least they were different in some way. As a child, Laurie also smoldered with repressed anger, but when he grew up, he nevertheless answered. Yes, as answered!

Miss Vernon kept talking:

– And then his mother died. God forbid… how old Calvin was then… twenty-one, twenty-two. She died standing at the stove making sauce. Never complained about anything. I managed to cook the whole dinner, only the sauce remained. I know because I helped dress her up. The sauce was all stuck to the bottom of the pan, none of the men thought of removing it from the stove. I got tired of scraping.

None of us understood why Calvin stayed. They thought they would leave. They did not know that he needed the farm so much. But he stayed. Maybe he was waiting for the death of his father, but he miscalculated. Arthur was strong, he still held out for eighteen years. Judge for yourself what it is like to live and work side by side for eighteen years – and hate each other to the point of shivering. As I imagine, so the blood freezes.

Miss Vernon shook her head, clicked her tongue again.

“Family matters,” she said. And she fidgeted in her chair. I was afraid that she would not ask for the restroom. What if she loses the thread right now, at the last minute, almost reaching the events that I know about? But no, she continued: “Where did I stop?

– Arthur and Calvin are left alone.

– Yes, yes. So it was. Together for the whole huge old house, and their main business is to hate each other. Oh, and they pricked up, must be, in the end! Repetition is the mother of learning. At last Arthur had a kondrashka. He stood in the middle of a sugar beet field, yelling at Calvin, and then he fell down dead. It can be said that he died of anger, a great relief for everyone.

She fell silent again.

– So how old was Calvin when he was finally released? Guess what, I mess up every time.

– Thirty-nine – forty.

– Something like this. Not young anymore. But this is nothing, but finally a free man, the owner of a good farm. And what do you think is next? Guess.

I swallowed, the growing anxiety took my breath away. I answered:

– Did you go to New Liskeard and come back with your wife?

Ms. Vernon nodded.

– Well done, you guessed it. Caught the pattern.

We sat still, listening to the silence. The cicadas are already silent. For as long as I can remember, I tried to wait for this moment – to hear how the last cicada sings the last note of the day, but I never succeeded. And now the forest froze in tense silence – waiting for the night voices to replace the daytime voices.

“I’d like some more cookies,” Ms. Vernon asked.

I handed her one and she began to chew slowly, dropping crumbs on her dress. And she continued with her mouth full:

– She was also a nice woman, only she forgot what her name was. All Pai knew a lot about women. What was her name? You remember right.

“Alice,” I answered.

– Yes, Alice. The woman was nice. Started off briskly, like all of them. She baked cookies for church holidays, joined the needlework society. At one time, even, it seems, she played the organ in the church. Yes, for sure, she played, but soon she quit, Calvin forbade it – they say, rehearsals take time. Joyce Tadworth replaced her, even though that bear stepped on her ear. Listening to her was sheer torment…

Miss Vernon peered into the gloom of the forest, remembering false chords. After a minute of silence, she said absently:

– Alice did not always manage to bear a child. For every birth, two miscarriages, poor thing. That’s why she gave birth to three children. Their names always fly out of my head. But you know, you don’t need to talk about them.

A fat man will have a girlfriend « OTSTRAXA.su

A fat man will have a girlfriend – this is a scary slasher-style story about a fat guy who really dreamed of dating a beautiful girl. With friends, they go to the country to the lake, where terrible events take place.

A FAT MAN WILL HAVE A GIRLFRIEND

BEGINNING OF THE SPEECH

Is the light too bright? Yes. Yes. Because of the cameras… I get it. No, I don’t need a lawyer. I’m just sorry you guys didn’t wait until I got out of the hospital.

Where to start? You already know everything… that’s right… the videotape.

Okay. OK. My name is Adam Drum… I’m 18, almost 19, actually.

I know I look older; it’s because of the extra weight. The only advantage of being over 140 kg is that I never needed a passport. I guess I shouldn’t say that to a police officer… I meant to say to a female police officer… I meant to say to both a police officer and a female police officer… actually, police detectives… sorry.

Yes, Detective Connelly, I’m ready to continue. I’m just… sort of jumbled up in my head, but I know what happened. And I’ll tell you everything. I don’t want any questions or doubts about what happened. Let’s start.

There were six of us. Me, Kay and Jenny, Laurie and Mark, and Alice. On my Hummer we went to the lake.

Hammer… well, actually, it belongs to my father, but he let me take it. He was just glad that I would go somewhere with my friends.

What? Are you surprised they were my friends? The most popular kids in school don’t hang out with fat guys like me; so you think?

You see, ever since I became aware of myself, I always knew that I was overweight. When other kids refuse to play with you on the swing, you start to understand something. Already then, many years ago, I firmly decided that whether I was fat or thin, I would never be a victim. Victim… You know, all those stupid comedies where the fat guy never wins the love of the girl who makes fun of him.

My father always told me that you can have anything you want in this world. You just need to really want it and be patient. And dad, after all, knew he was obscenely rich.

Oh, I fully admit that my father was obscenely rich, and that opened some doors for me, but not that much. It wasn’t because of my father’s money that these cool guys accepted me into their company, I’m sure of it.

Anyway, I was driving. We were going to spend the night outdoors by the lake to celebrate our graduation. I made sure that we were provided with a portable gas grill, tents and a portable TV… I had to dodge a lot to get there – I could not find the right turn to the lake all the time.

…No, I’ve never been there before, and I was slightly pissed off by Kei, who laughed at the music I was listening to. Well, I was pissed off by his jokes that Liz Fair sucks! Yes, she has been singing for much longer than all those teenage girl-squinting singers that are played on the radio these days. Alice somehow reminded me of Liz, maybe that’s why I liked her.

Yes, I liked her. And I think she liked me, well… if only a little bit. At least we had two full-fledged couples, and me and Alice. Everything worked out in my favor. In addition, she had a fight with her boyfriend Tom. She turned him down again, and eventually she was supposed to start dating me. At least that’s what I was aiming for.

I knew I needed to act. I’ve waited years for this chance. She was really determined this time, to send her boyfriend off for good, I was sure of it. Otherwise, why else would she persuade us to use her ex-boyfriend’s summer house? They called it a dacha, but in fact, this was a coastal strip near the lake, with a hut and a small pier nearby, and with a bunch of other rubbish.

Yes, yes, we entered this territory completely illegally. Tom has always been a tidy man and his parents didn’t use the cottage because there was some kind of “toxic mold” in the cabin. I’m guessing his parents wanted to hire someone to clean the house of this mold. So we were arguing about Liz Fair, and finally Alice found the way and we stopped at Tom’s parents’ toxic summer house. A little later, we laid out our things on the shore of the lake.

Well, actually I was getting things out of the car, and the rest were already splashing in the lake. No, I didn’t mind, I wasn’t ready to flirt with Alice just yet. Besides, someone had to set up the grill and the TV. But while I was camping, I got a good look at Alice, and that was just the beginning. When they were swimming, we made kebabs, and everyone drank a few cans of beer. I must say, I couldn’t help but notice that Alice drank more than the others.

When the sun went down, I offered to turn on the TV and connect the Xbox to it, but others just wanted to sit by the fire. I was asked to set up tents because I was the only one with experience as a Boy Scout. Actually, it wasn’t quite like that. I got kicked out of the Boy Scouts…

What? Ah… yes, I got the tents out of the Hummer and started setting them up while the couples around the campfire started kissing. Alice came up to me to help. We started talking about this and that.

“How many tents do we have? Two?” she asked as I made her hold the tent pole straight.

“Yes,” I said, pulling up the awning of the tent, “a tent for boys and a tent for girls.”

Then she started laughing. I tried to laugh with her, but then I asked, “What? What’s so funny?”.

“Look over there.”

She pointed to the fire, towards Mark and Laurie and Jenia with Kay. The events took on a more frank character, these were no longer simple hugging kisses. Shirts and belts were undone. Alice said to me: “Do you think they will want to sleep boys with boys, girls with girls? Are we kids who went camping with their parents?”

I let go of the tent when I realized what she was talking about. “I didn’t think…”

“Obviously you didn’t think.” She could barely contain herself from laughing.

“What the hell do you mean?”

I must have seemed very angry at that moment, because she became affectionate with me again. “Well, I meant to say, you are so sweet and innocent. That’s what I like about you.”

Blushing and smiling, I set up the second tent, and Alice and I decided to spend the night in Hammer. When I said that I could sleep outside, she said that I could lie down in a sleeping bag next to her. I said to her, “Do you understand that everyone will then say that we slept together?” We had a good laugh about it.

After setting up the handkerchiefs, we returned to the fire. Kay and Jenny retired into the woods; Mark and Laurie drank beer and looked at each other. There was no moon in the sky, but the stars shone so brightly that they looked like fireflies, which simply could not be reached. Mark said, “We should have fireworks, it’s too quiet in here.

“I like silence,” said Alice. “I think we sometimes talk too much.”

“Yes,” I agreed.

“We haven’t actually said a word yet.”

“Yes,” I agreed again.

Mark’s response was a long, nasty burp. Lori thought it was funny. After that, they went to one of the tents, undressing each other on the way.

“Well…” I said, “let’s have fireworks…”

Alice smiled at me. “I will arrange fireworks for you!” she said. “Come on, I want to show you something.” She took my hand and led me into the forest. Not in the part where Jenny’s ragged gasps were heard. It seemed that everything around smelled of sex, and it seemed that this was waiting for me too. I mean, I didn’t really want to do it on the street, but girls don’t like panties?

Really, right?

As I said, Alice took me by the hand and led me into the woods… away from the lake and the hut – we had to climb a small hill. The ascent was a bit steep, but I only started to run out of breath about half way up. I didn’t slow down and let her know that I was having a hard time, however, I let her loosen up a bit. But I was rewarded. After about 10 minutes, the trees parted in front of us, and we found ourselves in a clearing.

Well, it looked like a natural clearing. It was a place where trees simply did not grow. They just surrounded the place…how else can I describe it? That part of the trees, which was located towards the clearing, was bare, no branches and leaves. There wasn’t even grass there, only dirt. Perhaps it was one of those places where toxic waste was dumped. Perhaps it was the same mold that destroyed Tom’s parents’ house. Whatever it was, there was nothing romantic about it. But not to say that I was very worried. By that time, I was already very excited.

In the middle of the clearing, there was a large stone. It looked like a coffin. It almost sparkled, the starlight reflecting off it almost like ripples, as if off the surface of water. In part, it resembled a volcano. But that was crazy, because there are no volcanoes in this part of the state.

I asked her “What is this place?”

It was dark, but I caught her smile. She squeezed my hand tighter.

“Creepy, isn’t it?”

“It’s all right.” I turned to face her. I’ve been imagining that kiss for years. Now or never. But she moved on, almost dragging me along with her.

She touched the black stone the way people touch their grandparents’ tombstones. “Tom and I found this stone last summer when we were walking. Nobody knows where it came from.”

“Tom is not here,” I blurted out. I still don’t know what made me say it so rudely. She immediately released my hand and crossed her arms over her chest. I remember thinking to myself at the time, this is what a missed opportunity means. I tried to fix the situation. I remember asking her, “What do you think it is?”

“Maybe it came from outer space,” she suggested, saying it a little angrily. “Maybe he’s always been here.

“Maybe this place used to belong to a crazy rock collector,” I added.

“Yes…” She turned away from me, looking towards our camp. I must have annoyed her because I stood too close to her and stared at her.

“Alice…” My voice seemed to tremble a little. “Alice, you have no idea how much…”

But I never finished the sentence. Alice stood up and looked over my shoulder. “What is this? What is there?

When I turned around, I thought I saw something. My first instinct was to cover for Alice. If a hungry lynx or a bear was going to attack her, they would have to deal with me first. I figured that if I couldn’t tell her how I felt about her, I could show it to her.

“What is this?” she asked again.

“It’s all right,” I said.

A tall, dark figure emerged from the forest. At first I thought that something was wrong with the guy’s head. Then I realized that he was wearing a motorcycle helmet and overalls. He also wore a belt with tools, like a carpenter. He dangled from it as he walked.

“Come back,” I said to Alice, as quietly and calmly as I could. “Cell and keys are in the glove compartment of the Hummer.”

Then I took a step forward. At that moment, I was more worried than scared. After all, I weighed 50 kg more than this guy. This was my chance to prove to her that I was worth something, to show her the depth of my feelings. When I got close to the stranger, I could make out what was on his face, he was wearing one of those BMX-style motocross masks. I remember that I raised my hands up, ready to fight. I tried to appear calm and the first thing I said was: “Where is your motorcycle?”

Then he hit me and I passed out.

One damn hit and I passed out.

When I woke up, I couldn’t understand how long I was passed out, but my dreams were terrible and it was cold, very cold. I did not think that in a dream you can feel what is happening in reality. I think that woke me up. My first thought when I woke up was that it was raining.

But the rain is not so warm, and the sounds around… the sounds I heard had nothing to do with the rain.

I opened my eyes and thought for a moment that maybe I just fell asleep near our fire. The sounds around me almost confused me. Then I heard Kei’s dying moan, and warm, red moisture fell on me.

My hands were tied, and so were my legs. I think it was the ropes from the tent.

I heard some whispering. Something like a prayer. A lantern shone from a branch of a tree. We were all connected. Everyone lay at the base of this black stone. Jenny, Laurie and Mark were by my side. Lori was crying and screaming, but her mouth was sealed.

All of our mouths were sealed. Adhesive tape. I didn’t say it? I don’t know how I forgot about it.

… No, I can go on. I need it. Lori was crying and screaming. Mark and Jenny were dead. Their chests were cut open. Kei fell to the ground next to me. It was the same with him. A large dark hole gaped in the place where the heart should have been beating.

I started screaming when I saw this, if the sounds I made can be called a scream. I tried to call out Alice’s name. I rolled on the ground trying to find her. I knew that if I saw her with a hole in her chest, I would just… I would just give up. She was nowhere. It gave me some hope. I thought maybe she managed to get away when I let my ass get kicked with one punch. With one blow! I still can’t believe he only needed one hit.

Then I saw this man wearing a BMX mask. He was covered in blood and held a curved knife in his hands. He stepped over me and grabbed Laurie. She fought back and struggled, but he easily picked her up and threw her at the damn stone. I swear I heard her bones break, maybe it was her ribs or her arms. It doesn’t matter in the end.

But when he picked it up again, the knife fell out of his hand. He didn’t seem to notice, perhaps because he was busy with other things. I grabbed it and tried to free myself. The handle and blade were slippery, but I managed to cut through the ropes around my wrists. This, however, did not help Lori. The man cut out her heart like everyone else’s, threw her corpse on the ground, and walked towards me.

I remember, in the lantern light, this man looked like he was made of smoke. I picked up the knife that fell from him and lunged, trying to say “HA!” sealed mouth.

At least that stopped him. He froze in place. It seemed that he could not believe his eyes. It cannot be said that I saw his eyes. Looks like Adam Drum hit him. Yeah, I’ve seen all those 80s slasher movies where the fat guys always die like bitches. But not me. I’m not that guy!

With my free hand, I tried to rip the tape off my mouth, and then I saw a black stone. He somehow changed. The lights from the stars and the lantern sparkled on its surface, but all the reflections were wrong. They didn’t look right. They didn’t seem real at all. I would like to explain to you better. And the whisper, the prayer… it was everywhere. At first it seemed to me that it was a masked man, but now it looked like a choir. I try to remember what those voices told me, but it only makes me more confused.

The light on the stone seemed to match the voices! Does it make any sense? Suddenly, a masked man ran towards me. Perhaps he thought that I would be easy prey, because my legs were still tied and I was sitting on the ground. And perhaps these voices influenced him.

Was there a whisper? Was he real? I think yes.

He tried to punch me in the face. Tried to use my glass jaw again. But I stabbed him in the shin. The blade hit the bone and broke.

Hearing him scream, I was almost disappointed. I thought it would be a monster roar, but his voice was normal. He started cursing, calling me “Fat” this way and that, and shouting every other insult imaginable. He tried to stab me and was able to cut my arms well, but I jumped to my feet and started to run away. Every time I leaned over and tried to free my legs, he would be there, continuing to crawl after me. He began to shout something else. .. not just insults. One word I remember well. It was Anzon. You know, I’ve never heard that word before. I’m not even sure that such a word exists. But the craziest thing is that I heard more than just his voice. It felt like someone else was saying that word in the air.

… No, I don’t know if anyone else was in the forest with us. But I also can’t say that we were alone. I don’t know. All I knew was that I had to get out of there. There was something even more terrible than the masked man: I could almost feel it coming…

… No, not right, not coming. Sneaking? No, perhaps there is another explanation for this.
Breaking out? Perhaps this is the right word.

Anyway, I tried to jump out of there, and I crashed into a tree with a lantern hanging from it. The glass shattered and the fire burned my leg. I fell and started sliding down, remember, this whole place was on top of a steep hill, so I just rolled down on my ass. As I rolled, I heard a tree behind me catch fire; the same one that I crashed into, it was engulfed in fire. It seemed to me that I saw a man in a mask, perhaps he was also on fire, but everything was hidden in the shadows.

At least I didn’t hear any more voices. Whether they were real or not, whether it was a spell or some kind of prayer, they remained there, by the black stone. As I reached the bottom of the hill, I nearly ran head first into the Hummer. It took me a while to rip the ropes off my feet. The whole body hurt terribly. I leaned my forehead against the cold metal of the bumper. I thought I’d fall asleep right there, but then I realized that if Hammer was still there, then Alice might still be in danger. I forced myself to get up and move, feeling proud that I was only slightly battered. But I didn’t like the fact that the mouth was still taped shut.

I don’t know what hurt more, tearing the tape off my mouth or throwing up.

Just then, I noticed that the light was on in the hut. And then it all clicked in my head. Alice was a sexy blonde, and what serial maniacs and rock stars agree on is that sexy blondes are at the top of the food chain.

I was sure that the masked man had left it there, most likely for dessert, after he had killed the others.

In general, I knew that the masked man would not get to us soon, and I have time to save Alice. I’ll be the one who saved her. I already had one thought burning in my head: “The fat man saves the girl.” That thought alone, the fat man saves the girl.

The door to the hut was unlocked, so I went inside and looked around. The walls were covered in plastic, probably due to “toxic mold”. And candles were burning everywhere. There was a pile of papers on the table, all the sheets were old and yellowed. Looks like they were typewritten. But who uses a typewriter these days? I only realized this because I go to the local book club.

I looked at the top sheet and a familiar word caught my eye. It was the masked man’s favorite word. Of course, I understood what those sheets were and why they were printed. It was the ancient book Lost Souls. Have you never heard of it? It’s kind of like those famous books that never existed, like the Necrominicon or the Devil’s Bible. How do I know this? Well, I’m into metal; it happens all the time there. “Lost souls” were mentioned in the last album of the group “Relik”. Officially, the group changed its name to ZLO. “Lost Souls” is believed to be the Anti-Bible, which mentions the seven dark gods, their souls are hidden in seven desert places on Earth.

… Yes, I know it’s all nonsense. Remember, I said that these are non-existent books? People who believe in this also believe in vampires and leprechauns. But the songs of this group are excellent. They are amazing.

And so, I was looking at a copy of this book that shouldn’t exist, and I was thinking that the masked man was probably one of those jerks. He really believed that he was summoning the spirits of some kind of demons by killing my friends.

Then I heard Alice’s voice. I don’t remember exactly what she said, but when I saw her she was wearing high heels and the most transparent and exciting lingerie I have ever seen. And I can tell you for sure, I was not what she expected to see.

She said – and I remember it exactly – “Where is Tommy?”

“Tommy?” I said.

“What did you do with him?” she asked. She actually blamed me as she clicked her heels on the wooden floor. I backed away, scattering the sheets across the floor. “Why are you here? Why are you still alive?”

I said, “I’m here to save you!”

“What did you do with Tommy?”

“Was that Tommy? There in the meadow.”

“What did you do?” she put the knife to my chest. I don’t know where she got the knife from, but honestly, in that outfit she was wearing, she could juggle ferrets and I wouldn’t have noticed it.

I probably should have told a lie, but I remember saying to her “I think he…I don’t know”.

She attacked me, cutting my face, body and arms. “You’re an idiot! Useless, stupid idiot! After I courted you for several months, you can’t even die normally!”

“I don’t understand,” I cried. I actually just sobbed.

She hurt me again. “This world is just a shadow. imperfect reflection. And only those people who know about it have value.”

“I love you,” I told her…finally.

Then she started laughing. “Will you love me when I gut you like a fat pig?”

She raised the knife. But before she could carry out her threat, I grabbed her wrist. Alice turned out to be quite strong, I could not snatch the knife from her hands. So in this situation, I did the only thing I could do. I fell on her.

Now I want to state on the tape that I didn’t mean to kill her. I didn’t care if she was crazy, or was a fiend, or both – I loved her. But, when we fell, her arm twisted, and all my 140 kg. fell on the handle of the knife, driving the blade into her stomach. She was dying for some time, but all this time I was next to her. And when she died, I lay down next to her, and just waited.

That’s the whole story. You know the rest. I must have been in shock. That’s what the doctors say.

Unisex Names That Switched From Boy to Girl

It’s hard to imagine Lauren, Lindsay, Madison and Sydney as anything other than girl names. But rewind 100 years and they were used mainly — or even exclusively — for boys. So were a lot of other names that are now more female.

Unisex names are rarely perfectly gender-balanced. They’re usually given more to one gender or the other, and the balance changes over time.

Sometimes it just takes one famous namesake to tip the name over to the opposite sex. In the 1940s, Hollywood star Lauren Bacall (real name Betty Joan Perske) had an astronomical impact on a rare-but-mostly-male name. More recent influencers turning baby boy names into girl names include Reese Witherspoon, Sutton Foster, and Madison, Daryl Hannah’s mermaid character in Splash.

Meanwhile, some names switch gender because of a gradual change in which sounds are fashionable. Emery, and later Avery, became more viable as girl names with the rise in popularity of Emily, Emma, and Ava.

Here, we take a look at names that were once 100% male, but are now mainly female, using the USA’s list of popular names for 2021.

Names Now 100% Female

A few are 100% female: they were given to 0-4 boys in 2021, so they aren’t on the charts. They are all somewhat dated for girls, too:

  • HeartBeverlyChevron – Right
  • HeartHilaryChevron – Right
  • HeartLesleyChevron – Right
  • HeartLeighChevron – Right
  • HeartMeredithChevron – Right
  • HeartShellyChevron – Right

Some names on this list are still unisex in use, like Emerson and Finley, while others are now almost exclusively given to girls, like Addison and Hadley. Most, though not all, of the names here are surnames and place names, a style that is particularly gender-fluid.

Here, some of the most popular girl names that were once 100% male, along with the year they moved permanently to a girl majority.
