Little mittens, mini socks, and tiny sneakers — squeal! Few things are cuter than a pair of baby shoes. They can certainly serve to accessorize a mini fashionista or stylin’ stud muffin’s ensemble. But they also have an important function: protecting your wee one’s feet and helping them on the journey to independence and mobility.

When should babies wear shoes?
What to look for in baby shoes
Shoes you should skip
The decision of whether to buy the adorable shoes might come with some questions. When should you buy baby shoes for your cutie? When should babies wear shoes? Should babies wear shoes when learning to walk? And are there options you should avoid altogether? We are sharing all the footwear facts — plus, some helpful shopping tips and tricks.
When should babies wear shoes?
While it might be tempting to scoop up every adorable pair of newborn and infant shoes you lay eyes on, the truth is: babies do not need footwear in their first few months. You can, of course, feel free to add them to the occasional outfit, but try to keep your infant’s feet bare whenever possible. A pair of socks will keep those sweet feet sufficiently covered.
There are crawler or pre-walker shoe options that are specifically made to keep socks in place and get your baby accustomed to the idea of wearing something on their feet. Think of these as practice for the real deal — and use them only as needed.
As your infant begins to stand, balance, and navigate those first steps, you may, once again, find yourself drawn to the infant-footwear aisle. While we understand the motivation, it is important to remember that bare feet will help your little one grip the floor and build strength and stability in their arches and ankles as they learn to walk.
Once they are successfully toddling, you will want to get them a good and supportive pair of walking shoes. When they start taking those first steps is when it is important to protect those feet and enhance a child’s stability. What’s more, as your baby explores outdoors, shoes are a barrier from splinters, glass, and other potential hazards.
What to look for in baby shoes
Do you want to beeline to the store to snag that coveted first pair for your peanut? While cuteness (and cost) should certainly factor into your purchase-making process, there are some other things you should consider, too. Here is what you need to look for in terms of size, fit, and function:
Snug with room: You do not want your baby to slip out of their shoes while racing around. They should fit snug throughout the foot and heel, but offer a bit of room for growth at the toe. Your baby’s little feet will grow fast and you’ll want their shoes to keep up.
Nonslip grip: A good pair of baby shoes has a nonskid bottom with ridges to help prevent slips and spills. Like those socks that help you from slipping on the hardwood floor in your home so you don’t fall on your butt. But for a baby.
Flexible support: Baby shoes should be flexible and bendable, offering ample support but lots of give. There should be padding under the sole and heel to prevent uncomfortable friction.
Measure often: It is usually best to have your baby fitted for their first pair of shoes, so you can ensure proper sizing. Of course, you can also do this yourself with a simple ruler. Newborns up to 3 months of age will typically wear a size 1 — which measures at approximately 3.5 inches in length. From 3 to 6 months, a size 2 (3.75 inches) should get the job done. Around 1 year, many babies wear a size 4.5 or 5 (about 4.75 inches). Again, every baby grows differently — so be sure to measure those little feet often.

Shoes you should skip
Itty-bitty flip-flops and pint-size rubber crocs certainly look sweet, but they can pose a tripping hazard to babies, as they are just learning to balance on their own two feet. Plus, they always leave a tiny foot rubbed red and raw with blisters. Similarly, other dress shoes may enhance an outfit, but they do little to help your wobbly wee one get proper footing. In this instance, function comes before fashion — so take a photo of that Instagram-worthy look, then free that baby’s feet!
Shoe shopping takes on a whole new level of cuteness when you are buying for a baby. Have fun browsing all those miniature accessories, but be sure to always prioritize practicality. The right shoes will help your little one take those all-important first steps with pride, confidence, and joy. Watch out world, your baby is on the move!

It seems a shame to hide the feet of the little ones – but, especially in the early months, you’ll want to keep their toes covered and cozy. When they are about to take their first steps, knowing more about baby shoe sizes will help you get a good fit.

Before a baby starts to walk, shoes only have one purpose: keeping the feet warm. During the early months, you can dress your baby’s feet in socks or booties. Once she’s ready for a ‘real shoe,’ look for quality. Footwear protects her from the elements, and sometimes helps for traction.
A baby shoe made of soft leather is ideal, as it provides good flexibility in the sole. Walking toddlers can also wear sneakers and sturdy sandals. The shoes you purchase shouldn’t need to be ‘worn in’. They should fit comfortably from the start.
Does the shoe fit?
Because baby shoe sizes can vary between footwear brands and manufacturers, it’s important to have your child’s feet measured by a shoe professional. Once you have the length in inches, you can seek out a comfortable fit. Keep in mind that some stores label shoes only by age and tend to use wider ranges (for example 6-12 months or 12-18 months). Measure the child’s foot every three months to check whether she is outgrowing her shoes. You can also use the pinkie rule to check for fit – your baby’s shoe should be one (adult) pinkie width longer than her foot.
As a general guide, use the following chart of baby shoe sizes, which shows foot length matched to each approximate age. This chart works for most shoe styles your baby will wear at these ages, including sneakers, sporty sandals and boots.
Length: 5.5 inches (13.97 cm). Approximate Age: 2 years
Size 7 (Euro Size 24)
Length 5.75 inches (14.605 cm). Approximate Age: 2 years
Size 8 (Euro Size 25)
Length 6.125 inches (15.5575 cm). Approximate Age: 3 year
Size 8,5 (Euro Size 26)
Length 6.25 inches (15.875). Approximate Age: 3 year
Size 9 (Euro Size 27)
Length 6.5 inches (16.51 cm). Approximate Age: 4 year
Size 10 (Euro Size 28)
Length 6.75 inches (17.145 cm). Approximate Age: 5 year
Shop together
Take babies along when looking for footwear and put them in the socks they’ll be wearing with the shoes you’re buying. You should also shop in the afternoon as feet tend to swell as the day goes on. (Fitting them when they’re at their largest is best.) And be sure to buy shoes for the bigger foot, because feet aren’t always the same size.
Skip the trends
Say no to combat boots, flip-flops, wedges, strappy sandals or heels of any kind for your baby or toddler. They may seem super cute but the fashionable baby shoes can be difficult to walk in.
Many stores carry a wide range of shoes for babies and kids, so take your time when shopping for footwear. Buy the shoes that fit best, regardless of the age range or size that’s stamped on the shoe.

Clothing sizes for newborns by months: table
There comes a happy moment for mom when the baby is due to be born. Everything is ready for childbirth, but the question arises: what size clothes to choose for the baby? Even an ultrasound will not be able to tell exactly what height and weight he will be. Firstly, this study does not provide 100% of the data, and secondly, it is done a week or two before delivery, when the child is still growing. In order not to be mistaken, you need to know what sizes of clothes for newborns exist. This will help the table of sizes by months. nine0003

Basic rules for choosing clothes
What are the standard sizes?
Babies grow very quickly, so buy clothes for your child that will absolutely match his height. The size chart focuses on the standard height and weight of the child by months, and it is best to take things in a larger size, as the baby will outgrow them very soon. nine0003
50 is the smallest size. It is designed for premature babies. Even if the height of the child born at term is 50 cm, it is still better to purchase larger items, since the increase in height and weight will occur very quickly.
56 – suitable for babies born at term of average height: 43-52 cm. During the first month, the child’s height will already overtake the size of the thing, and you will have to buy large sets. If you have been diagnosed with a large fetus on an ultrasound scan, you can immediately stock up on copies of clothes in size 56. nine0010
62 is the standard size for a baby of the second month of life, but larger babies can wear it in the first month.
Other examples of size grids for a newborn baby can be found from Russian manufacturers:
Monthly. 0-3 months; 3-6 months etc.
Made to measure. 18 – for newborns; 18-20 – for children of the 1st month or large newborns; 20-22 – for a child of the 2nd month, etc.
In Europe, the size grid by months is also accepted, but it is written differently, for example: 0/3, which means from 0 to 3 months.
Below is a table of baby clothing sizes by month.
Hats
The biggest problem is the size of hats and bonnets. This is a mandatory attribute of children’s clothing, which is worn even in hot weather so that the baby’s ears or head are not blown out.
The size of the headgear is determined by the circumference of the head. It is best for a newborn to purchase a size 35, although after birth it may be necessary to decide in favor of a larger size. nine0003
Below is a table that determines the size of hats for a child.
Shoes
Up to 7-8 months, until the child tries to stand up, the baby does not need shoes at all. You can get by with warm socks. Their size is determined based on the size of the foot. It is best if the socks are slightly larger than the foot: it will be more difficult for the baby to throw them off.
The most characteristic sizes of socks for a child are: 0+, 0-3, 3-6. Size 0+ is suitable for a newborn. In order not to run for socks to the store as the child grows, you can immediately purchase several copies for growth in size 0-3. nine0003
Basic rules for choosing clothes
Some mothers out of superstition try not to buy clothes for their baby in advance. On the one hand, this is true, since you do not know what kind of child will be born. On the other hand, before giving birth, you have the opportunity to calmly pick up things, and then not run around the shops in a hurry.
Each mother determines the time to buy. When choosing clothes, it is better to adhere to the following rules:
The seams on clothes for a newborn should look outward so as not to injure the baby’s skin. nine0010
Whatever item of clothing you purchase, opt for snap fasteners over zippers.
Clothing must be made from natural fabrics.
Warm clothes need to be bought a couple of sizes larger.
Sizes marked by different manufacturers with the same markings may not correspond to each other.
Before giving birth, buy several copies. You should not immediately purchase a whole “dowry”: it may turn out to be small or not suitable for other reasons. nine0010
If the baby will be at home in diapers, buy 2-3 of each piece of clothing for home use. Warm clothes are enough for one copy. And remember: it is better to buy things for a newborn in a larger size than to buy small ones. The size chart presented on the site will always help you to navigate correctly and choose the right thing for your baby.

Methods to help determine the size of your child’s feet by age in centimeters
A trip to the children’s shops in search of suitable shoes for your baby can be overshadowed by the presence of the child himself: since the choice of shoes is a very responsible task, it is not a fact that you will cope with the task very quickly. And long walks in crowded places, you see, are very tiring, especially for children. Therefore, many parents calculate the size of the child’s foot by age in centimeters, leave the baby at home with grandparents and go shopping without any extra “burden”. nine0003

And if a table is used to calculate the size of the foot, then it should be borne in mind that each baby is individual, and the size of his foot may also differ from those indicators that the special size grid contains. To choose the right shoes, you should take into account age (both the year and month are taken into account), height, foot length.
A chart that will help determine the size of a child’s foot by age
A newborn baby, like a month old, does not need shoes – a maximum of warm booties or socks. When the foot grows, and the baby makes the first attempts to walk on his own, there is a need for the first shoe.
In order for the foot to develop correctly, it is necessary to select the appropriate size of shoes. So, children’s shoes should not be too big or small – because of this, the foot of the crumbs is deformed. It should be remembered that you cannot save on shoes that a child will wear, which means you should not take shoes with the expectation of several seasons. To determine how many centimeters a child’s foot has, the table will help:

You can find out the approximate size of a child’s foot by measuring the foot with a centimeter. For this, the child is asked to stand on a piece of paper and trace the silhouette of the foot with a pencil. You can make a wet footprint: wet the foot with water and ask the baby to stand on the paper, leaving a mark, which then measure with a centimeter.
Be sure to measure both feet as one print is always slightly larger than the other. For the correct measure, you need to take a larger number. If the process of taking measurements is completed, add ½ cm to the figures obtained if you choose shoes for the summer, and 1.5 cm if you plan to buy winter shoes (so the boots will not be too big, they will fit a leg in a warm sock, and there will also be room for air circulation, which will keep the heat in the shoes longer). Next, you need to cut out the stencil, and in the store apply it to the shoes instead of the insole. nine0003
It should be borne in mind that it is better to take measurements in the evening, when the leg has slightly increased in size during the day of activity. If the child is one month old, his foot should be measured every three months, as they change the size of the foot more often than older children. In children 6-10 years old, control measurements should be taken every 5 months.
If the baby is a month old, his leg should be measured with a tape measure or a regular thread, the length of which is then measured with a ruler. When the child can stand on his own, his feet can be measured in a standing position. nine0003
Tables of measurements of children’s feet from different countries
Each country offers its own measurement grid for children’s feet. And in order to make an error-free purchase from foreign manufacturers, you should familiarize yourself with the size tables of the most popular exporting countries of children’s shoes.

Children’s shoes should be chosen responsibly. So, make sure that the shoes do not squeeze the baby’s leg, are not too big. If the child is small and cannot yet tie their shoelaces, give preference to shoes with Velcro or zippers.

“The pay at FedEx Office for a Senior Store Managers depends on the physical store size and its overall contribution to the district. I currently operate the largest location in the Inland Empire which gives me even more responsibilities compared to my fellow peers who operate locations 4X smaller. In comparison to other districts who may have the same size location with less responsibilities, they may receive the same pay or slightly less. The driving factor for pay come down to the stores ADV (average daily value) and its ability to maximize each transaction to generate revenue growth year over year.”

From a courier to the founder of “Chinese FedEx” – a biography of the founder of S.
F. Holding Wang Wei – Stories on vc.ru
China is a country rich in entrepreneurs. Some of them are known all over the world, others are famous only at the level of their country or Asia.
Wang Wei, founder and head of S.F. express. At home, he is called one of the most mysterious entrepreneurs, which, however, does not prevent one from admiring his achievements.
Thanks to a successful IPO, Wang Wei’s net worth has reached $27.6 billion. Although it has now fallen to $25 billion, interest in the entrepreneur and his success story has grown significantly around the world. nine0003
The early days of an entrepreneur. Creation of S.F. Express
Wang Wei was born in 1971 in Shanghai. His father was a translator from Russian in the air force, and his mother taught at the university. However, Wang Wei did not live in China for so long and moved to Hong Kong with his family at the age of seven.
It was not easy for the family to live in a new place. Wang Wei only graduated from high school and received a superficial education. After that, he went to help his uncle, who owned a small printing factory. nine0003
In 1993, he returned to China and established the courier company S.F. Express in Shunde City, Guangdong Province. The total capital of the founded company was 100 thousand Hong Kong dollars – about $ 13 thousand. This amount was lent to the entrepreneur by the father, which indicates that the family lived well at that time.
The company originally had only six couriers, and one of them was Wang Wei himself. However, such a fate of the founders of courier companies in the early stages of their existence is not uncommon and usually benefits the business. The company had only one van. nine0011
Wang Wei was one of the first parallel traders – merchants who buy tax-advantaged products in Hong Kong and then successfully sell them in mainland China at a markup. First of all, we are talking about essential goods (baby formulas, medicines and other products).
Despite rather modest starting conditions, S.F. Express by the end of 1993 had branches in Hong Kong. There is nothing strange in this, if you look at the motivation of Wang Wei himself when creating a company. Early 9In the 0s, many Hong Kong factories began to transfer their activities to mainland China. The reason for this movement was the visit to Hong Kong by Deng Xiaoping, who announced the beginning of economic reforms and a policy of openness.
Most of the enterprises moved to Guangdong, which borders Hong Kong. It was then, realizing the benefits these changes would provide for the courier business, that the entrepreneur hurried to seize the opportunity.
It is also not surprising that one of the activities of the company at the beginning of its existence was the delivery of goods between China and Hong Kong. There was one nuance in this seemingly unremarkable business – the state monopoly on postal delivery did not allow these private companies to engage in it. nine0003
Wang Wei, in one of his rare interviews, called this business “black delivery” and claimed that if he was caught then, he would have to pay a fine. He illegally delivered packages from China to Hong Kong for a total of 16 years.
After the start of work, the company immediately became involved in a price war. In it, Wang Wei was able to survive, reducing the cost of services to 40 yuan per parcel, while the price of competitors was 70 yuan. Franchising has become a key method of the company’s development. nine0011
At that time, Wei did not own a large fortune, there were many competitors and the company needed rapid growth. The franchising strategy fully justified itself, and soon the subsidiaries of S.F. Express began to appear almost throughout the province of Guangdong. Scaling to the entire territory of China lasted until the 2000s, and only in 2002 the company began to work in East China.
Of course, Wang Wei was far from the first owner of a courier company to implement this approach, and some competitors also used it. But at 19In 1997, the entrepreneur virtually monopolized the courier service market between Guangdong and Hong Kong.
S.F. Express controlled about 70% of operations in this direction. In the same year, Hong Kong returned to the control of the PRC, which led to an even greater growth in the delivery market and accelerated the growth of the entrepreneur’s business. Wang Wei himself became a multi-millionaire and enjoyed well-deserved success.
In 1999, Wang Wei left the day-to-day management of the company for a while. True, soon on S.F. Complaints rained down on Express, and the entrepreneur decided to change the model of work. He began to take back control of the businesses created under his franchise. nine0003
The reason was that the franchisees violated the conditions and were building their own local empires, bypassing Wang Wei. Management turned out to be decentralized, which negatively affected the work.
Wang Wei’s actions were not to his liking, of course. The entrepreneur was repeatedly threatened with reprisal, including by criminal gangs. For his own safety, he had to acquire bodyguards.
Development S.F. Express in the early 2000s. Entering the air travel market
In 2002 S.F. Express dropped the franchise. The entrepreneur refused to give freedom to departments, and now the structure of his company is more like a dictatorship, where everything works as a single mechanism – without deviations and delays.
The company headquarters was moved to Shenzhen. S.F. approach Express delivery has also changed. Wanting to streamline and structure the work, Wang Wei began to divide large cities into districts, to which he assigned couriers. Usually according to the system: one district – one courier. However, in Beijing – a city of 22 million inhabitants – the approach was most likely different. nine0003
In addition, the concept of responsibility for delivery appeared in the company’s practice, and couriers began to be tightly controlled. Those who did not do a good job were soon fired. The new approach and restructuring led to an increase in the number of clients.
The company really pays special attention to couriers. According to Wang Wei, they are the most respected employees of S.F. Express, which is not surprising given their role in the daily operations of the company.
The form of payment in the company is piecework. This means that the salary of each employee depends only on his efforts. Usually this amount exceeds 10 thousand yuan per month. As expected, Wang Wei demands from his couriers the speedy execution of orders while maintaining the high quality of services. This attitude eventually became one of the factors that allowed S.F. Express to grow to today’s level. nine0003
Wang Wei claims that the company does not have a clear plan for the day, and the level of customer service is more important than the number of deliveries. However, because of the piecework form of payment, couriers need to try and do more than others, and maintain a level of quality.
The company guarantees a minimum level of income and provides all kinds of bonuses and subsidies – both for the employee himself and for his family. As a result, S.F. Express has a reputation for low employee turnover, and a significant part of the management “grows” out of ordinary couriers. nine0011
In 2003, Wang Wei took advantage of the airline’s problems caused by the SARS epidemic and chartered five planes to transport his own cargo. This allowed S.F. Express to become the first private company in China to use aircraft to deliver mail.
In 2009, Wang Wei decided to work in this direction on his own. As a result, the subsidiary S.F. Airlines. Launching it was no easy task. S.F. Express had to get all the necessary permissions for this, and the process dragged on. So, the launch of the direction was postponed until December 31, 2009years – then, finally, the first flight took place.
In the same 2009, two aircraft were purchased. In 2016, the company already owned 36 aircraft.
One of the S.F. Airlines
By the early 2000s, despite the rapid development of S.F. Express in China, it had no shortage of competitors. Some of them were ready to provide services much cheaper than Wang Wei did. It remained for him to improve the quality of his own services and do everything for the fastest expansion. In 2005, he took a $550,000 loan from a bank, leaving his own company as collateral. nine0011
The reason was the entrepreneur’s quite logical assessment of the delivery market. At that time, the boom in online commerce had already begun in China. The success of Alibaba and Tencent has had a very positive effect on commercial companies in terms of order numbers. From S.F. Express and its competitors needed speed of delivery and quality of service.
The entrepreneur took care of the latter from the very beginning and continued to do it in the future. In particular, one of the company’s rules states that a client with a problem cannot leave empty-handed without receiving adequate help in solving his problem. nine0003
During the 2000s, the company not only expanded its scope of operations and created its own cargo airlines, but also went through a restructuring. In 2008, the parent company S.F. Holding, which included all of Wang Wei’s assets.
International expansion, diversification and IPO
In 2007, the global integration of the company began. It has expanded into Taiwan. Then the number of branches in other countries began to grow rapidly, and almost every year new ones were added to them. The only exception was 2009year.
In 2011 S.F. Express opened a subsidiary in Japan. Initially, it was located in Tokyo, but a year later an additional branch appeared in Osaka. The new branch was engaged in the shipment of goods from Japan to China and other Asian countries, as well as to the USA.
In 2012 S.F. Express entered the US market. At first, it worked only in 13 states, but by 2013 it had expanded to all the rest. Access to American customers promised serious competition with other companies, among which is the same FedEx. nine0003
But S.F. Express did not set itself the goal of capturing the US domestic market, preferring to concentrate on the delivery of parcels from China. In 2014 S.F. Express entered the Russian and Australian markets.
Internationally, a Chinese company is willing to work in alliance with local players to improve the quality of services. For example, in 2015 S.F. Express, together with the Estonian state-owned company Omniva, created Post11. Its goal was to ensure faster and more efficient circulation of goods between China and Europe. Post11 has global plans for worldwide expansion. At the time of foundation, Russia became the key market for the enterprise. nine0011
In Russia S.F. Express works together with one of the leaders in the express logistics services market, DPD. Thanks to this partnership, Russian customers have received the possibility of fast delivery from 10 days. Of course, this indicator depends on the city and region, as well as other features of the transportation of goods.
Ukrainian market S.F. Express, in cooperation with Nova Poshta, launched an express delivery service for goods from China in 2016. The delivery time, according to preliminary results, was halved from the average and is about 15 days. nine0003
In addition to his core business, Wang Wei also expanded his business into the e-commerce industry. In the same year, sfbest.com was launched. This service sells premium-level food and beverages produced by partner companies. And S.F. Express, of course, takes care of the delivery of orders.
The company also increased the number of services in its main direction. SF Buy was launched to ship US-based goods to Chinese online shoppers. The process is expected to take up to 10 days. nine0003
sfbest.com
The company has many services, but it is difficult to give a clear chronology of their appearance and implementation due to the scarcity of information about the early periods of S. F. express. The company has its own payment system – SF Pay. It has a number of standard features, such as paying bills and sending money to another user.
The company provides a wide range of services for three categories – ordinary customers, buyers through e-commerce platforms and business customers. Among them, for example, express delivery on the same day, the next morning and others. nine0003
In 2014, the company continued to operate in the online commerce market. The public soon took notice of the opening of Heike stores, which were a strange mix of physical and online retail. S.F. Express has opened more than 500 outlets in 70 cities in China. The company plans to expand to 4,000 stores.
A typical Heike is a room with many photos of products with QR codes on the walls. In addition, there are two or three touch screens to access the full list. Photos on the walls are only a small part of the real volume of production. The computer contains many more items, as it has access to the goods of several online stores that cooperate with Heike. Therefore, the assortment of the store is very wide. nine0003
The ordering procedure is very simple. The customer selects a product on a computer or scans a QR code. Then he clicks the “Buy” button, makes an order and receives the selected product the next day. S.F. Express charges commission and advertising fees from its partners.
One of the typical Heike stores
Heike’s launch was received positively by most of the media, and they even began to be called a new form of o2o-commerce. However, a Shanghai Daily reporter who made purchases at Heike found certain flaws in it. nine0011
For example, Heike did not have Wi-Fi, despite the abundance of QR codes to be scanned. Prices on photographs and websites differed sometimes up and sometimes down. In addition, it is not clear why a person would go shopping online when they can do it from home.
The latter was explained by the fact that in Heike a person can see, try on or try the goods before buying. However, the stock in the store is still much less goods than on the sites. nine0003
All errors were taken into account and corrected. Soon, Wang Wei expanded the scope of Heike’s activities by introducing a range of all kinds of additional services. Among them are flight booking, ATM, laundry, household appliances repair and others. This significantly increased the range of opportunities for Heike customers.
In the same year, plans were announced to expand the range of logistics services in Europe and increase the air fleet to 100 aircraft by 2018. True, in 2016 this goal was adjusted, and now it is planned to build up the fleet to the specified mark by 2020. nine0003
Also in 2014, some interesting figures were revealed about the company’s revenue channels. So, for example, 10% comes from cooperation with Alibaba Group, 70-80% – courier services for business.
In 2015, the company controlled a total of 10,000 centers, half of which were in China. All this was supplemented by our own aeroflot, a fleet of 15,000 vehicles and a developed infrastructure. The number of employees of the company was about 340 thousand people. nine0003
The main innovation of 2015 was the launch of drone delivery in China. We are talking about remote mountainous areas in the south of the country, where delivery using conventional methods is difficult. To work in this industry, an alliance was formed with the drone manufacturer XAircraft.
The courier company started testing this type of delivery back in 2013. The drones used can lift a load of up to 10 kilograms, the maximum distance is 20 kilometers. About a thousand cargoes were delivered in a day in this way. nine0011
In 2016 S.F. Express has finally received permission from the Chinese government to build the country’s first dedicated cargo airport. The negotiations took about a year. The planned airport is likely to be the largest facility of its kind in Asia.
According to the company, an important factor is the proximity to cities in China, which produce 80% of China’s GDP. According to available information, we are talking about the construction of a complex within a two-hour flight radius from these cities. Therefore, the city of Enzhou is called the presumed location of its location. nine0011
In 2016, the company’s operating income reached RMB 56 billion. In the same period, the main interest was attracted by the release of S.F. Express to Shenzhen Exchange. To do this, the company used the reverse takeover method by purchasing Maanshan Dingtai Rare Earth & New Materials.
The public offering took place on February 24, and by the end of trading, S.F. Holding grew by 59%. Together with them, Wang Wei’s fortune also grew, reaching $ 27.6 billion. This allowed him to take third place in the ranking of the richest people in China. nine0003
Many sources note that such a successful first public offering is due not so much to the success of the company, but to the cunning maneuvers of the entrepreneur himself.
Wang Wei didn’t do anything illegal, but just approached the placement in an extraordinary way. He put up for auction only about 3% of the company. Then, before the placement itself, he paid bonuses to employees. Many of them, apparently trusting the company and its CEO, decided to spend the money they received on shares.
According to Bloomberg, they opened about 20 thousand accounts in order to purchase shares. Due to the rapid growth in demand, the price increased significantly, which affected the results of the first public offering. However, at the moment the state of the entrepreneur has decreased to $ 25 billion. nine0003
Entrepreneur personality, management methods and development plans S.F. Express
Wang Wei himself is an example for employees. He has been working 14 hours a day for more than 20 years, is involved in all aspects of the company’s work and can give good advice to employees of different levels. People who know him claim that he does not work at all for the sake of money, because in this case he would have sold S.F. Express FedEx or UPS, which have repeatedly offered an impressive amount for the company.
Despite his success, the entrepreneur still prefers to remain in the shadows. Even his photos on the network are not so many. The Hong Kong magazine Next, which wanted to learn a little about Wang Wei’s working methods and lifestyle, even introduced its own reporter as a courier, but the results of this venture were rather superficial. nine0003
Finding an entrepreneur is difficult not only for journalists, but also for private investors. The latter at one time were willing to pay 500,000 yuan to intermediaries who could arrange a dinner with Wang Wei.
Wang Wei avoided outside investment until 2013, when it became known that the entrepreneur was going to further expand the company with the help of investments. Moreover, he was not interested in short-term financing, he needed long-term strategic investments. nine0011
Upon learning of this, he was immediately contacted by several of the largest investment companies. This includes CITIC Capital, which entered into a consortium with Oriza Holdings and China Merchants to invest in Wang Wei’s company. Together they managed to acquire no more than 25% of the shares of S.F. express. Up to this point, Wang Wei controlled 99% of the shares of his own company.
Wang Wei himself claims that he is one of those people who prefer to be in the shadows and live like everyone else, without making too much noise around themselves. He needs the company to realize his own dreams, and not to make money. nine0011
In his only interview, when asked about the reasons for the success of S.F. Express, he modestly noted that they were just lucky. Now, having achieved impressive success, Wang Wei sets more global goals, expanding his own company not only within China and Asia, but also in other countries of the world.
Not much is known about the entrepreneur’s personal life. He is married, but is in no hurry to represent his family to the public. Expensive purchases and extravagant hobbies are expected from one of the richest people in China. In this area, all that is known is that he owns a house in Hong Kong worth $45 million. nine0003
However, Wang Wei says that when he achieved his first significant success and became a multimillionaire, he was not at all ascetic in purchases and, on the contrary, spent huge sums that he did not need at all. The entrepreneur admitted that at that time he was too smug. Wang Wei was able to get through this period thanks to his wife, who helped him moderate his ardor and redirect his energy to Buddhism.
Although Wei has such a peaceful philosophy, he is considered a tough entrepreneur who does not favor competitors or his own employees. The latter are often forced to work no less than their boss, who, moreover, perfectly understands all the specifics of the work of the same couriers and is able to quickly assess their mistakes and shortcomings. nine0003
However, they give him a very flattering characterization, calling him an idealist with a strong sense of social responsibility, who treats them with deep respect.
The entrepreneur’s biography also included information about cooperation with the government. In anticipation of the listing, some facts about the shareholders of S.F. express. Among them is the former Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and a friend of Wang Wei, Lin Zheying.
Despite the fact that he left the government in 2010 and is now in business, this information has led many to speculate about the role of the authorities in the company’s success. However, in China, most entrepreneurs are trying to find a common language with the government, so there is no big sensation in this. nine0003
Wang Wei is still committed to expanding the company’s reach to other industries, primarily e-commerce. The Heike network, despite all the advances, has not yet achieved breakthrough success. However, Wang Wei did not cancel plans to diversify the company, and taking into account the successful public offering of S.F. Express will focus more on new destinations.
Today the main goals of the company are: global integration, expansion of its own transport fleet and infrastructure development, in particular, the construction of an airport. nine0011
Successful launch of S.F. Express on the stock exchange looks like a real sensation, because the company is practically not covered by the media, being in the shadow of the more famous giants of China. But for China, the company’s achievements are quite natural – in the home market of S.F. Express, despite the abundance of competitors, is the leader.
The company’s success is not only due to its own innovations and out-of-the-ordinary approaches, but also to the extraordinary popularity of Chinese e-commerce products. Multimillion-dollar orders from online trading platforms have become an excellent foundation for international integration. nine0003
Future plans S.F. Express’ expansion and online commerce looks extremely ambitious and it looks like the company is quite capable of realizing them. Wang Wei himself, unexpectedly among the top three richest people in China, is an example of a Chinese entrepreneur who has made billions not on online sales and high technologies.
What the first Amazon and FedEx courier robots look like / Sudo Null IT News
Already in the near future, purchases from online stores will be delivered to us not by people in cars, but by flocks of robots traveling along sidewalks. Several promising projects are working in this direction at once. Starship Technologies of Estonia is already using small delivery robots in hundreds of cities to deliver hot groceries from pizzerias and restaurants. Marble, a San Francisco startup, has learned how to deliver falafel in a similar way. Kiwi robots bring food to students at UC Berkeley in California, and sometimes catch fire. nine0003
But we are most interested in Amazon. It is from there that we most of all deliver purchases from America. And just recently, Amazon announced the start of field trials of its own courier robot, Scout. The six-wheeled autonomous droid will cruise the sidewalks and deliver packages to Amazon Prime subscribers in major US cities. To begin with, the machine will begin work in the quiet Snohomish County in Washington. From Monday to Friday, during those hours of the day when there are fewer pedestrians on the streets. nine0003
The Scout will always have a human companion first, making sure the bot “safely and efficiently navigates people, pets, and anything else in its path.” Prime users using a robot should see even more substantial reductions in delivery times. Amazon promises that most of the orders will be processed and come to the buyer on the same day.
The company has been experimenting with ways to make shipping faster and cheaper for more than a decade. A particularly big problem in recent years has become the so-called “last mile” – delivery from warehouses directly to customers’ homes. Here, Amazon is now forced to rely on the state. US mail, USPS. Only that one has the resources (and desire) to follow the same routes to tens of millions of homes every day. The problem is that some in power in America are convinced that such cooperation with Amazon for the USPS is ultimately unprofitable, and they want to ban government. mail to accept parcels from a private company. One of them is Trump, who almost declared a vendetta against Amazon last year. nine0003
If state. there will be no mail – the entire structure built by the company threatens to collapse. To insure yourself, you need to find your own options. That is why Amazon is so active in developing drone delivery, patenting towers in which they could “nest”, and trying to organize people to work for them as couriers on their way home or to work.
In 2018, the company launched the Delivery Service Partners program. Entrepreneurs who sign up can hire drivers and get up to 40 trucks from Amazon to deliver packages from warehouses to homes. The company wants to hire at least 1,000 of these “partners”, each of which will receive between $75,000 and $300,000 a year. Not so bad for a small business owner who is also given good credit to start. nine0003
But even a few thousand private entrepreneurs will not cope with the required volume of orders. Plus, what if one of them “falls off”? A few days without parcels for the residents of the town? Amazon can’t take that much risk.
Robots must eliminate these shortcomings. They are easy to replace, do not take up parking space, do not confuse parcels and do not require regular salary increases.
The con
Amazon came to the idea of ground-based delivery robots quite late, and its path in this area promises to be difficult. These robots are like self-driving cars, only with more parameters to worry about. Highways and tracks are more or less regulated, they have a structure and a set of rules that must be followed. Sidewalks are more intuitive. There are no red traffic lights or specific lanes to navigate. A robot that travels the streets or delivers goods from America must be able to evaluate many more situations, and somehow navigate its surroundings. Take into account that a door may open in front of him, watch the animals and their leashes, check if there is a puddle or broken tiles in front of him, understand when he needs to cross the road and how best to do it. Even in the current age of unmanned vehicles, teaching AI to respond to all these situations will be extremely difficult. nine0003
Scout still uses machine vision technology, more than a dozen cameras and lidar to help avoid obstacles. So far, only six cars will be released on the roads – to collect information and test the operation of systems.
Considering how many companies are going in the direction of courier robots, you might think that the future is definitely theirs. Especially when you have unlimited Amazon finances. But Brian Gercky, head of Open Robotics, which supports open hardware and software in robotics, has some doubts:
It is not yet clear that this market exists. It may turn out that there is no economic sense in such robots. It is hard to imagine that they were better at moving along the sidewalks than the person for whom they were created. A non-standard staircase, an unexpected obstacle, a careless passerby – and your package will never be delivered.
The only advantage the messenger robot has so far is that it never gets tired. For the rest, so far – solid minuses. He will not be able to open the gate or the door, he will not be able to clarify the way. And, if the story with electric scooters has shown something, people will not give up their sidewalk so easily. Seeing a self-satisfied robot taking their rightful place, some will want to show him who is the boss in the house. Many Scouts will be broken or stolen, that’s guaranteed, nothing can be done about it. A system that could provide complete security for a small expensive device does not yet exist. nine0003
Argument “for”
For many, interacting with a Scout will be even more enjoyable than working with a human courier. From the point of view of an Amazon customer, there is nothing complicated here. You buy a product, you receive a PIN code on your smartphone (and email), after a few hours you receive a signal, open the door, see the robot, enter the code, open the slot and pick up your package. So far, the disadvantage here is that if you are not at home, there is no one to enter the PIN code, and the package will not be delivered. But this is easily solved. It is enough to give the person the opportunity to choose the option to leave the package at the door. Then delivery by robot will not be much different from delivery by people, plus the robot, with its cameras and GPS, has a lower chance of making the wrong door. nine0003
In order not to annoy pedestrians, the Scout will move at an average walking speed. Perhaps even adjusting if the flow starts to move slower or faster. Bob Doyle, vice president of Robotic Industries, says that this will allow the machine to quickly become accepted among people, “to join their environment.” He also compliments Scout’s design:
I think it strikes a good balance. He looks friendly enough that people don’t kick him, but not so friendly that kids run up and hug him and stop him from doing his job. nine0011
The main thing is that the new technology opens up a large field for potential profit. And the one who first captures this market, as is usually the case with new technologies, will be in a big plus. Parcel delivery is still a highly inefficient process, with many stages, each of which can be an error or hitch. Full automation can solve a lot of problems, and save large companies a lot of money if it works out.
It’s not just Amazon who understands this. Literally a couple of days after the announcement of the start of the work of Skat, his courier bot, FedEx presented him with competition. Her device has even managed to participate in the show with Jimmy Fallon, demonstrating its ability to drive on sand and gravel. This SameDay Bot is said to carry packages for Pizza Hut, Walmart, Target, Lowe’s, Walgreens and several other major retailers. The inventor Dean Kamen, the author of the Segway and the all-terrain wheelchair iBOT, is responsible for its development. The FedEx and Kamen robot is expected to go live in July, after approval by the councils of selected cities. After several months of testing, they are even going to give him the opportunity to deliver goods from the United States to other countries (for starters, Canada). nine0003
They solved the problem with the perception of the bot among pedestrians in their own way. They have it a little more, almost the height of a person, and with a screen in the center, in which the robot will communicate its intentions. It is much more difficult to have a negative attitude towards a typewriter that says “Hello!” to you when you meet. And for the same children, he can write “Please don’t touch me J”. The same screen on the back shows when the robot is about to turn or stop. A similar technology was previously tested by the developers of unmanned vehicles. According to them, this reduces the number of accidents and, in general, misunderstandings between man and machine. nine0003
For Amazon and FedEx, the first few months of testing robots should allow companies to decide whether to supplement regular human couriers with them, or if the technology is still too raw.
Most importantly, I know my daughter is safe, cared for and loved while she’s at Tati’s. I find their facilities and practices extremely clean and careful, they follow all state mandated protocols to the T and we’ve had very minimal daycare germs related illnesses in the near 8 months sinceenrolling. I like that they send photos throughout the day but that I truly forget my daughter is there most of the time, I just never need worry about her because I really feel confident in the care providers. It’s a no frills facility and while there are certainly fancier centers with longer hours or Montessori curriculums, I am very happy with our Tati’s experience. And at the end of the day, my daughter truly loves all of the teachers and staff. What more could you ask for?!…

Our daughter went to Jelly Bean Group Family Day Care for almost six months (we’re stopping as we’re moving out of state). Every morning, she literally flies into their arms and is very smiley when we pick her up – which is always a good sign for a parent! It’s more of an informal environmentcompared to some of the other daycares in the area; but the kiddos definitely seem to get lots of attention and activities. We noticed our daughter loved songs we never sang to her previously; and it’s where she started walking. The teachers are super communicative and the parents are also super friendly with each other. We’ll definitely miss going here but wanted to post the review for other parents in the area to consider!…

Charlemagne in New York
If Charlemagne (among other things, the patron of educational institutions) lived in New York today, he would be a multimillionaire. And although every family secretly professes his cult, he does not enjoy special reverence, because they treat him with some distrust and prejudice. And that’s why.
One March afternoon, two mothers were watching their tomboys play in the playground of New York’s Central Park. This is one of the few places in the city where you can meet and talk heart to heart. Without taking her eyes off her baby, one of them said:
– Can you imagine, this is terrible, this morning we received a thin envelope. Trevor will never get into Harvard.
– Yes, it’s really terrible.
– But why?! The mother of a failed Harvard student put on an expression appropriate to the circumstances.
Trevor himself does not experience any worries about this and, like a healthy and normal child, runs from the hill to the swing. In short, no matter how much his mother suffered, he did not care.
As soon as we heard this, we were immediately bewildered. What omen does this thin envelope (the thin envelope ) carry? After a little investigation, we finally understand why Trevor’s mother is convinced that her two-year-old son with blond curls will have no chance of getting into one of the best universities in the country.
New York is a city of rituals. And one of the most sacred New York families falls on the first Tuesday after Labor Day (Labor Day celebrated on the first Monday in September). The New York chick is a very attentive mother, pinning all her hopes on the future of her offspring. After a family (part of it) has spent a whole summer in fun and entertainment in the Hamptons (see “Follies of the Hamptons”), already at half past seven in the morning, excited mothers rush to the phones to call private schools and get an entry form. The chance to propose your candidacy will be for the one that will be more agile than the others and dial the number the fastest. As a rule, it is useless to call after noon. All forms have already been sent out. This is followed by a formal visit to the school during which the Director of Recruitment finds out if the parents are in line with the general spirit of the institution. And then comes the famous interview. I must say that the first interview in New York takes place when applicants are still wearing diapers. And starting from the age of two, it is mandatory for admission to a private school.
How many worries and worries parents have to go through before an interview! On this day, mothers say “yes” to all the requests and demands of their babies. Would you like an eclair from the corner store (a thousand calories of fat and a ton of sugar)? – Yes my love. Would you like to take a bath with your teddy bear? “Well, of course, my dear. It is necessary to make every effort so that the child does not get nervous, does not become irritated and does not huddle in hysterics, which is what parents are most afraid of. Some mothers even give their children Ritalin on this big day[48].
When you arrive at the school, the principal’s office will already be crowded with parents whose children are also waiting for an interview. Charlotte Gould, whose daughter, India, had just entered a private preschool, recalls:
– Parents’ tension reached such a point that some grumbled at their children, although they were already almost crying. I tried to speak, but no one even opened their mouths.
In the first week of March, the answers begin to come in. Every family anxiously awaits the receipt of their admission papers—a thick dossier of no less than fifteen pages—and trembles with horror at the thought of the famous thin envelope containing the standard rejection letter in the mailbox.
Whereas in France we all dream of our children graduating from a prestigious school, in New York parents sleep to see their child enroll in a prestigious preschool. A list of preschools in the Baby Ivy League (the Ivy League for children), as it is known here, is published every year in the press. These institutions are proud of each other for the success of their students, who already have the highest percentage of admission to the real Ivy League (Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Brown and Columbia Universities, Cornell University, Dartmouth College and the University of Pennsylvania). But the dream has its price: from 15 to 28 thousand dollars a year.
A place in a kindergarten is one of the few things that money and even a lot of money can’t buy, although it hasn’t bothered anyone yet. The scandal that broke out in December 2002 at the school on 92nd Street Y is recalled. The famous financial analyst Jack Grubman had to write and publish the most favorable report possible in exchange for the patronage of Sandy Weil, head of Citibank , who promised him a place in the legendary school on the Upper East Side. In this case, two places, since the unlucky Grubman (albeit very rich) is the father of twins, which would ease his wallet by 30 thousand dollars a year. Indeed, the price does not matter when you have a pair of charming boys!
The marathon has gained such momentum that some agencies offer help and support to parents in this difficult test. Amanda Uhri, founder of Manhattan Private School Advisors , is open about her intentions. A small ad celebrating the agency’s virtues reads: “Private school is a fourteen-year marriage that will cost you $300,000 if your child is admitted. We need you! And on her website on the Internet, she even wrote: “If you do not use our services, be sure that your rivals will not fail to do so.”
Roxanne Reid of Smart City Kids has a more attractive approach. She is by your side every step of the way in this long distance race. She helps fill out application forms, prepare for the first visit to school, for an interview…
– Sometimes I even go shopping with them to help them choose clothes appropriate for the occasion. My role is to maximize the family’s potential so that the baby’s enrollment is not in jeopardy.
But if she brings a little common sense to this parenting frenzy, her services remain expensive: $2,500 for a child’s admission to preschool. And here’s what one of the readers said0019 The New York Times after a newspaper article about this new service:
– The great thing is that people who can pay $300,000 for their own child’s education are so insecure that they hire a consultant who explains to them such simple things as how to dress appropriately or how to maintain basic decorum: turning off your mobile phone during an interview, sending a thank you letter, etc.
What’s the difference between a $5,000 a year school and a $12,000 a year school, you ask? The answer is simple: for five thousand your cherub will be engaged in modeling, coloring and making collages, and for twelve he will devote himself without a trace – guess what? – sculpting, coloring and making collages (at the same time, his daytime stay at school can be cut in half).
What is the reason for such unbridled inflation that has affected modeling? A place at a prestigious university, as well as the fact that your baby will not have the opportunity to discover the makings of a cook or a locksmith. But the main thing is that while your baby is listing the letters of the alphabet, you, dear parents, will be able to boast that Woody Allen, Michael D. Fox and Calvin Klein were present at the parent meeting with you.
And finally, the last one. One of our friends, a Frenchwoman, asked why not send the children to a public kindergarten? Yes, simply because in a city where nothing is impossible, where everything is there, they simply do not exist.
And in this regard, I would like to quote the words of Cindy Adams, columnist for New York Post:
– Only in New York, children, only in New York …

Finding Quality Child Care – Child Care Resource Service
Click Here to Find Child Care and Early Learning Programs Near You
The Illinois Cares for Kids Online Child Care Search offers families an easy way to find a list of child care providers in your area. However, families need to have confidence in their child care arrangements. Finding quality, convenient, and affordable child care is not an easy job. The options and tips below will help you get started. Take a moment to read these before you start your search. If you have any questions about the Online Child Care Search call (217) 333-3252 option #3 or 1-(800)-325-5516 option #3.
There are three primary non-parental child care arrangements used by families in the U.S. Each has its unique advantages and considerations. No one type of care will be best for all families. The best child care arrangement is one which matches the child’s and family’s needs to the type of care provided.
Center-Based Child Care
Child Care Centers provide care for groups of children outside of a residential setting. Children are usually grouped by age. There are two types of child care centers: licensed and license-exempt. These centers may be Head Start, Early Head Start or Illinois Preschool for All programs.
Licensed Child Care Centers must meet Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) standards for health and safety including child to staff ratios and required space per child. For licensed centers, the following staff to child ratios and maximum group sizes are set by DCFS.
Licensed-Exempt Child Care Centers are also recognized by Illinois, such as those serving children 3 years and older and operated by public or private elementary or secondary schools, faith-based organizations, institutions of higher education of other accredited schools registered with the Illinois State Board of Education. Since these settings are not licensed, they are not held to standards for health and safety, staff to child ratios or maximum group size set by DCFS.
The advantagesof center-based care:
Daily planned activities
Opportunities for building social skills
Consistent, year-round schedules that do not fluctuate
Staff trained in child development and CPR and First Aid
Opportunities for parental involvement in curriculum planning and policy-making
Additional services such as special field trips, health screenings, music, dance, or gymnastic instruction
Things to consider when choosing center-based care:
The inflexibility of operating hours; typically center-based care is open 7am to 5:30 or 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday only. Parents who are 1) working rotating shifts; 2) needing part-time care; or 3) work later evening hours/weekends all have a harder time finding centers that will accommodate their needs.
Generally, centers have larger groups of children in a room with sometimes varying caregivers who work different schedules or need to cover shifts.
Centers offer more structured settings with less ability to accommodate individual needs, routines, and interests.
Family Child Care
Family child care is provided in a home other than a child’s own home. There are three types of family child care: licensed homes, group homes and license-exempt homes.
Licensed Family Child Care Providers are providers who have obtain licensing through the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) by meeting the requirements set forth by the State of Illinois. Licensed providers must complete 15 hours of in-service training per calendar year and must also complete a 6-hour training on caring for children with disabilities. Providers who care for more than 3 unrelated children must be licensed.
Licensed Family Child Care Group Home Providers may care for up to 16 children (including their own) with the help of a full-time assistant.
License-Exempt Family Child Care Providers such as family, friend, and neighbor care may care for three or fewer children (including their own), or all of the children from one family.
The advantagesof family child care:
Smaller, home-like setting with one consistent adult
Greater flexibility in hours; it is more common to find family child care provided during early or late hours, evenings, and weekends
Fewer children and less structure which allows the caregiver to better accommodate individual needs and routines
Things to consider when choosing family child care:
Lack of reliability; often, there is no substitute should the provider get sick or go on vacation
High turnover rates among providers
Variability in quality
In-Home Child Care
An in-home child care provider cares for your child in your residence. This caregiver could be a nanny, a relative, or an au pair. This type of care is not regulated by DCFS licensing standards. As a parent, you are the employer of the caregiver.
License-Exempt In-Home Child Care Providers such as family, friend, and neighbor care may care for three or fewer children (including their own), or all of the children from one family.
The advantagesof in-home child care:
Causes the least disruption to the child
Greatest convenience to the parents
Offers the highest degree of control over the care-giving situation (what and when the child eats and sleeps, what, if any T.V. is shown, which toys are played with, etc.)
Things to consider when choosing in-home child care:
Cost; in-home child care is generally the most expensive of all arrangements
Complexity of finding a qualified caregiver
Loss of family privacy
Difficulty in retaining caregivers and maintaining good communications; turnover rates in child care are generally highest among in-home caregivers)
Legal, financial, and other requirements of the parents as employers
Lack of social interaction opportunities for the child or caregiver
Backup Child Care
Backup child care is an alternative childcare arrangement made in response to an emergency, an unexpected event, or a disruption in regular, pre-arranged childcare. It is a safety net for when an everyday childcare arrangement breaks down.
The need for backup care should be expected by all parents. Life happens; nannies get sick, daycares close, work requirements increase, etc. The best backup care works if it is flexible and meets the family’s needs.
Our in-home booklet provides information on hiring a backup child care provider. CCRS also maintains a list of students that can be used for backup or evening-out child care. Please contact us for further information about either of these resources.
Play & Learn
Quality child care offers many opportunities for all children to play each day. Counting, reading skills and problem solving are just a few things learned through play.
💡TIP: Look for a provider who focuses on all aspects of your child’s development including language, social, emotional, physical and cognitive.
Qualifications
There are different caregiver qualifications for different child care settings. Training, education, experience and credentials prepare a child care provider to meet your child’s development needs.
💡TIP: Request a provider’s qualifications and references to learn more about their child care experience.
Positive Interactions
A quality child care provider guides children, helping them to get along with others in caring positive ways, and encourages you to be involved as well.
💡TIP: Look for a provider who is enthusiastic, attentive and encouraging.
Program Quality
All licensed child care programs are part of the ExceleRate Illinois Quality Recognition and Improvement System (QRIS). Programs can earn a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Circle of Quality or a national accreditation award by meeting voluntary standards for quality child care that are higher than the state licensing requirements.
💡TIP: Ask the provider if their program has an ExceleRate Illinois Circle of Quality or is accredited.
Environments
A quality child care environment is safe, clean and provides children with many learning opportunities.
💡TIP: Look for a setting where the children are supervised at all times, nutritious meals and snacks are served and where toys and learning activities are based on the age of the child.
Financial Assistance
The Illinois Department of Human Services Child Care Assistance Program provides financial help for families who meet income and work or education/training requirements.

Kindergarteners were given a master class

Veterans from the local branch of the Union of Pensioners of Russia have recently become guests of the Gryazovets kindergarten “Alyonushka”.
Children from the senior and preparatory groups organized a concert for the guests with songs, poems and dances. Then the veterans held an origami master class for the children and offered to play checkers. Naturally, friendship won.
– Both we and the guys got a lot of positive emotions. For a while, everyone forgot about their affairs and problems. Next to the children and hospitable teachers, we ourselves have become younger in soul, – the participants of the kindergarten trip share their impressions.
– Once we had a project “Grandma’s pies”, and for several years we were frequent guests of schools and kindergartens, – says, in turn, the chairman of the Gryazovets branch of the Union of Pensioners of Russia Elena Knyazeva. – Due to the pandemic, these trips had to be interrupted, but now they are back in practice, and this is good news.

Topics for projects in preschool educational institutions (kindergarten)
Attention! We also offer free download for children of our game programs: Guess the baby animal and Guess the flower from the picture and Arithmetic in pictures.
We often received letters from parents who asked us to come up with simple and at the same time interesting topics for the projects of their children attending kindergarten. Indeed, now in preschool children are often engaged in observations, conduct small experiments, research.
Presented project topics in preschool educational institution are developed for children of the middle group, senior group and kindergarten preparatory group, are carried out with the help of educators and parents. Project topics are designed for children 3, 4, 5 and 6 years old and older.
Project topics in the younger group
Project topics in the middle group
Project topics in the senior group
In the process of research work, after choosing an interesting project topic in kindergarten according to the Federal State Educational Standard, pupils of the preschool educational institution study the chosen object in more depth, observe pets, flowers, plants, insects, carry out environmental projects and, as a result of their research, give answers to seemingly simple questions for adults.
It is very important for educators to choose a simple, understandable and very interesting topic for children’s project for preschool pupils, because the main thing is to involve a child in research activities in kindergarten, to teach them to observe, understand and draw their first conclusions. It would seem that elementary things, phenomena and processes within the framework of project activities with children can surprise and interest.
Project topics in the preparatory group
Topics for mini-projects in preschool educational institution

What to do if a child is often ill: the view of a pediatrician and a psychologist
Sometimes it seems that small children are constantly ill: either a cough, a runny nose, or a temperature. Do they really have such weak immunity and nothing can be done about it? Our blogger, pediatrician and anesthesiologist-resuscitator Olga Tereshchenko, together with her colleagues, told what to do to make the child get sick less.
Ironically, I am writing this post with my children coughing in the background. I’ve been buying packs of handkerchiefs all the time since my eldest daughter started going to kindergarten. After the crisis that happened to my daughter after the birth of her second child, I am not afraid of kindergarten. Then she was ill non-stop and no preventive measures or hardening helped. Before my eyes, my daughter turned from a healthy into a constantly ill child, and I was confused and acted incorrectly.
Who are frequently ill children?
A frequently ill child is not a diagnosis. This means that the child is constantly confronted with sources of infection and cannot resist them. On average, a preschool child gets ARVI six to eight times a year, for two weeks each episode. It turns out that, in total, the average child is sick for three to four months a year. This happens most often during the school year, in the autumn-winter period, so it seems that children get sick all the time.
According to the WHO definition, a child who has had more than five episodes of acute respiratory infections in a year is considered to be frequently ill. In different countries, this definition varies depending on age, kindergarten attendance, and even place of residence.
Parents develop an action plan together with the pediatrician who observes the child. It includes prevention, hardening, vaccinations, examination by doctors and some laboratory tests.
About prevention
Prevention is not a temporary measure, but a way of life that should be constantly maintained in order to get sick less:
Ventilate the apartment and leave a constant supply of fresh air even in winter. When we come from the street, for some time we exhale viruses and bacteria, which begin to multiply intensively in the heat. To get rid of them, just an open window is enough.
After returning from the street, wash your hands, wash your face and rinse your nose. Be sure to change your child into home clothes, especially after kindergarten.
Humidify the indoor air. When a person inhales air dried out by batteries, the mucous membranes begin to dry and crack. This creates additional entry routes for viruses and bacteria.
Maintain sleep and wakefulness, put the child to bed on time. Constant lack of sleep reduces immunity, the body simply does not have enough strength to fight viruses under constant stress.
Walk more. Lack of sunlight and fresh air reduces the resistance of the child’s body to infections.
If possible, arrange a day of rest for the child from kindergarten in the middle of the working week. For example, Wednesday. Or from additional classes if the child is already a schoolboy and is heavily loaded.
Vaccinate a child. Seasonal influenza vaccination will reduce the likelihood of getting the most severe variant of ARI. The pneumococcus vaccine will not protect against a viral infection, but it will reduce the frequency of pneumonia and otitis media after SARS.
Harden. It is not necessary to douse yourself in cold water while standing in the snow, but you can start by walking barefoot at home and wearing fewer layers of clothing before going outside.
Checking with specialists
In addition to prevention, a frequently ill child should be checked with some specialists, at least a ENT and a dentist. Chronic foci of infection constantly support inflammation, which depletes the body and reduces resistance to viral infections. That is, a child with caries or adenoids can get sick more often simply because the body’s defenses are constantly distracted by the problem inside and do not have time to respond to an external aggressor in time.
Evgeny Amartsev, pediatrician:
“Most often, psychosomatics manifests itself when a child goes to kindergarten. Recently there were two children who got sick every Thursday. After the examination, when it became clear that the children were healthy, I advised mothers not to take their children to kindergarten on Wednesdays. The children got time to recuperate and stopped getting sick. Sometimes I suggest going for a consultation with a psychologist if I see that the problem is deeper than the child’s simple unwillingness to go to the garden. ”
When it is worth suspecting psychosomatic causes of frequent illnesses:
A child is ill in one of the kindergarten class or group;
There have been changes in the family: the birth of a second child, the mother’s going to work, severe discord or divorce of parents, even moving to another apartment can cause illness in a sensitive child;
There are signs of neurosis: the child bites his nails, sleeps badly, cries at night, fears have appeared;
There is a relationship: ARI begins before the performance, on the eve of a control or other important event in the child’s life;
There are problems at school, the child does not want to go there and is constantly sick.
Causes of psychosomatic acute respiratory infections
1. Stress , as a result of which the child’s body can no longer cope with the usual viral and bacterial load.
Polina Fedotova, Systemic Family Psychologist:
“Psychological causes greatly affect the physical state, because during stress hormones are produced that here and now help a person cope with stress, but in the long term they disrupt the body’s work thoroughly” .
2. Secondary benefits. Secondary benefits in psychology are the benefits that a person receives for permanent illnesses, even if he is not aware of it. A child can get sick if he gets more attention and care. Or mom again sits at home with him and does not go to work. Maybe this is how a child misses a hated school or just takes a break from endless circles, sections and workouts.
3. Parental influence. For example, mother’s anxiety. The child cannot cope with the constantly high level of maternal anxiety, so he falls ill, the mother says: “Well, I knew it.” Everyone calms down until next time.
4. Family settings. When a child is constantly told “Don’t sit in the cold – you’ll catch a cold. Don’t eat ice cream – you’ll get sick. It’s cold outside, put on your hat, otherwise you’ll get sick again” – then if the child is suggestible, he can obey and actually get sick.
There are other reasons, I have listed only the most common ones.
Yulia Orlova, family psychologist:
“There are many cases when a child is the so-called “carrier of a symptom” in the family system. For example, parents are in a state of pre-divorce, the child suddenly falls ill and thereby “reconciles” them for some time, as they are forced to rally around his illness.
Another example: Tanya is a high school student who often gets sick and hardly goes to school. It comes out literally for two or three days and again “lays down” with a temperature. Upon a detailed acquaintance with the situation, we find out that Tanya has an anxious, overprotective mother who is sure that the girl will not survive in a harsh world without her, she must always be protected. So the mother “programs” the daughter to be helpless, and with constant illnesses, she gives the mother the opportunity to “legalize” anxiety. This becomes profitable for Tanya herself: you can “officially” lie on the couch, buried in your phone, and do nothing.
When a younger brother or sister appears, the child suddenly feels “abandoned” and starts to get sick, returning the attention and care of his parents. If a mother has high separation anxiety at the stage of going to work and “delivering” the child to a kindergarten, nursery or nanny, then the child will reflect it either with frequent illnesses or complex “unbearable” behavior.
If a psychological cause of acute respiratory infections is suspected:
Pay attention to the conditions under which the child becomes ill, whether there is anyone to get infected from, whether the child has secondary benefits during illness.
At the next episode of illness, ask the child what he feels, what feelings he has about the illness, what he would like to change in the situation.
It will never be superfluous to add tactile contact to communication with a child. Just ruffle your hair as you walk by. Rejoice at the meeting and often hug. Find time for joint activities and confidential conversations.
Take care of yourself. If you find that your increased anxiety may be a possible cause, first take not the child, but yourself to the psychologist.

Medium:
These are significant violations of child care regulations and could negatively impact the health and safety of children. If you would like an explanation of any of the deficiencies, or would like additional information about this facility’s compliance, please contact your regional office.
Low:
These violations are the least likely to impact health and safety, but they still show that a facility is out of compliance with some child care regulations. If you would like an explanation of any of the deficiencies, or would like additional information about this facility’s compliance, please contact your regional office.
Note on Frequency of Inspections
Centers, Group Homes, and Licensed Family Homes::
In 2014, legislation was passed that changed the number of unannounced visits from two per year to one per year in Child Care Centers, Group Child Care Homes, and Licensed Family Child Care Homes. As a result of this new law, you may see a decrease in the number of deficiencies listed on this website for these types of providers. Unannounced visits are still made in response to a complaint, and visits are scheduled with the facility during the re-licensing process, which occurs every two years.
Registered Family Homes:
Most family homes are registered, not licensed. In 2014, legislation was passed that allows Child Care Licensing to make one unannounced visit to these homes each year. As a result of this new law, you may see an increase in the number of deficiencies listed on this website for Registered Family Child Care Homes. Unannounced visits are still made in response to a complaint. Click here for an overview of each facility and the requirements they must meet according to state law.

Children’s Medical Center “Care” – reception of specialists, ultrasound, ECG, massage, vaccination of children.
Go to the old version of the site
Children’s medical center “Care” on the street. Tatarskaya, 20 pediatrician is required for a permanent job.
Working hours: 9-15, 5/2, duty on Saturday by agreement.
Valid certificate or accreditation.
Salary from 40,000 for hands .
Tel. HR department: 8-4 Everyone knows that children are the flowers of life . But parents know how difficult it can be to protect such beauty from adversity and help keep them healthy. How many nights spent without sleep at the bedside of your child. The desire is better to hurt yourself than to see him suffer. How many hopes for the help of doctors and for medicines bought at the pharmacy. Give to drink, force to eat, thermometer, tablets, suspensions, inhalations, etc. and changing antibiotics… Treating children is a serious, difficult and responsible business .
Parental care for children is very important. Parents will assist the doctor in this by memorizing or writing down complaints in detail (pain, changes in appetite, nausea, vomiting, cough, color and amount of urine, changes in stool, etc.), temperature, number of breaths and pulse per minute.
Turning to the doctor of the children’s medical center “Care” (Ryazan), it is necessary to have confidence in him to a certain extent. Ideal option: mutual positive attitude of the parent and the doctor.
nine0006
The key to successful treatment is the professionalism of the doctor. The nuance is that the doctor must be childlike. Features of the growth and development of a child at different ages affect the picture and course of the disease. An important point in the work of a pediatrician is the ability to establish contact with a small patient, it is necessary to treat him with warmth and affection. Children’s doctors in the children’s medical center “Care” (Ryazan) are always attentive and professional in their work, in communicating with children and their parents.
nine0006
Additional information comes after the examination of the child: blood tests, urine tests, ECG, ultrasound, MRI, etc. Knowing all this, the pediatrician at the Children’s Medical Center “Care” (Ryazan) will be able to more accurately diagnose and, accordingly, prescribe the necessary treatment .
To consolidate the results of treatment, rehabilitation and rehabilitation therapy is carried out. Massage, physiotherapy, physiotherapy exercises, speleotherapy, spa treatment have proven themselves well.
nine0006
There is public and private medicine. Everywhere there are competent and qualified specialists. However, in the children’s medical center “Care” (Ryazan), they try to make the most of their time for each individual patient. There is no rush, irritation, extraneous noise. Almost immediately, an additional examination is carried out – ultrasound, blood, urine, feces tests.

The SC Education Report Card
Background & History
In South Carolina, schools and school districts have received School Report Cards since 2001.
Why Report Cards Exist
Improving school performance begins with understanding the conditions, successes, and challenges of each school. The South Carolina School Report Cards provide information to build that understanding. The information enables entire communities – educators, parents, students, business leaders and others – to ensure all students achieve at high levels.
The South Carolina School Report Cards allow parents and others to see how schools are improving toward meeting the goals the state has set. Click here to learn about those goals.
Understanding the Indicators on the Report Cards
What do the SC School Report Cards measure?
South Carolina schools are measured in several areas, called performance indicators. Federal and state law require that states measure certain indicators; others were approved by the State Superintendent of Education and the SC Education Oversight Committee for use in the school accountability system.
Click through the indicators to discover more information about each one.

School Ratings System
Why the Ratings Exist
The words used to rate schools have been extensively debated in SC, as in other states. South Carolina uses terms and definitions which are established in state law. This ratings system provides parents, teachers and stakeholders a simple way to evaluate overall whether a particular school or system is exceeding, meeting or not meeting the criteria required in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Understanding the Ratings
Each school will receive an overall Rating and each rated indicator will receive a separate rating.
What This Means
Schools receive Ratings for individual indicators as well as an Overall School Rating. Much like student grades, student indicators are rated based on five levels of performance. The highest performance level is a Rating of “Excellent” while the lowest level of performance is “Unsatisfactory.”
The Rating Scale
Excellent
School performance substantially exceeds the criteria to ensure all students meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Good
School performance exceeds the criteria to ensure all students meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Average
School performance meets the criteria to ensure all students meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Below Average
School performance is in jeopardy of not meeting the criteria to ensure all students meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Unsatisfactory
School performance fails to meet the criteria to ensure all students meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.

Rating of schools-2022
For the first time in many years, the School of Physics and Technology topped the rating of Obninsk schools based on the results of the Unified State Examination. At the same time, the gymnasium
remains the best school in the Kaluga region in terms of graduates’ competitiveness in the RAEX rating gymnasium. Now the “forever second” FTS is celebrating a victory – its graduates have become the first according to the results of the Unified State Examination. The advantage is small, but nonetheless. nine0003
People’s newspaper ranking criteria
We calculate the rating score simply. This is the sum of the intra-school average scores in the Russian language and specialized mathematics, divided in two. We take only these two results, because everyone passes the Russian language, this is a mandatory exam. Approximately 70% of graduates pass profile mathematics, which is also indicative. There is no need to take into account the results of other exams to compile a rating. Firstly, how the graduates passed the Unified State Examination in Russian language and mathematics gives a fairly objective picture. Secondly, there are not at all demonstration exams, because few choose them. For example, out of 714 graduates this year, only 7 people passed geography, and 38 – literature. Show off knowledge Pushkin and Sholokhov only 5% of the students ventured.
Who’s up, who’s down
In the top ten Obninsk schools for several years, in addition to the Gymnasium and the FTS, there are constantly Derzhava, Free School (OSSh), school No. 16, Dubravushka, school No. 4. These are recognized leaders, whose graduates pass the exam better than others. The secret of success is simple – the best teachers of the city work here. The new school No. 17 has a good chance to constantly be in the top ten. Last year it had its first graduation and 11th place, this year it is already 8th. Let’s see what will happen next. nine0003
Even this year in the “major league” – Obninsk College and School No. 11. They are included in the group of “strong middle peasants”, who either rise in the ranking by several positions, then fall – they don’t have to do it year after year. Just like their neighbors in the rating. “ChaSha” this year from a rare for her 6th place went to the usual 14th. Left the “top ten” and school number 13, usually located a little lower.
No major changes are seen in the group of outsiders. Everything is, alas, stable. School No. 1 last year was in last place and now it is at the very bottom of the table. Her director Galina Polyakova explained this by the fact that two graduates did not cope at all with the exam in specialized mathematics, greatly lowering the general school average score. “In general, the class was not bad,” added Galina Vladimirovna. “Out of 23 people, 12 entered universities for state-funded places.” School No. 1 at the end of the rating is accompanied by schools No. 5,7,10. For five years in a row, they have not been able to rise higher. This year, School No. 9 left the lagging group, moving from 18th place to 13th. Perhaps this is the beginning of her renaissance. nine0003
USE winners in subjects
Above average
Citywide average USE scores in Russian language and mathematics significantly exceed the average for the whole country and region. Of course, that’s how it should be. However, we have schools in which the USE passed below the national level. In the Russian language – schools No. 11, 6, 3, 1, 7, 10 and Sportinternat. In mathematics – schools No. 7,10,1.
This year, as never before, there are a lot of graduates who have received gold medals – 43! To get it, it’s not enough to have only “five”, you still need to decently pass the exam, for example, in mathematics you need to score at least 70 points. And the guys did it. nine0003
In addition, this year Obninsk schoolchildren have traditionally performed well at subject Olympiads. So, two students of the FTS became winners of the All-Russian final: Egor Luzhetsky – in physics, Vadim Derbenev – in chemistry, a gymnasium student Tatyana Goloviznina – winner of the “All-Russian” in German.
Everything is calm
“The goals and objectives of the Unified State Examination are absolutely justified,” comments Elena Senina, director of the FTS . “Most importantly, the exam ensures the availability of admission to universities.” About the same and the director of the gymnasium Alexander Sukharev: “It happens that the result of the exam does not coincide with the annual grades in different schools. Somewhere school grades are overestimated, somewhere they are underestimated, subjectivity is high. And the exam gives an objective assessment of knowledge.

Jubba (Isidis) – Fixed Stars
Delta of Scorpio
Reference: Located near the right claw of Scorpio.
Influence: According to Ptolemy, of the nature of Mars and Saturn; Al-Vidas speaks of Jupiter square the Moon. Previously, this star was considered favorable, now it is referred to as “evil” stars. Associated with sudden falls, danger of falling from a height. The ancients constantly mentioned the danger of air, flights. Such a person should also be wary of birds. Endows the subject with a love of power, brings victory over enemies. This is a free-thinking person, capable of occupying a majestic position. With a negative impact, he will be the object of attacks. Immorality, shamelessness, malevolence, hidden secrets. Sudden attacks, anger, immoral acts, shamelessness.
Conjunct:
With the Sun: Promotion in sports, religion, astrology, public affairs. Such people are able to form alliances that exist for a long time, but they should be careful in communicating with partners. The subject must be careful when confiding his secrets to anyone, otherwise he will regret it for a long time. Dishonesty, extravagance, bad company, regrets.
With Moon: Such people are usually optimistic. They can be solitary people, it depends on connections with other stars. Often they are distinguished by suspicion and secrecy. The owner of a negative horoscope can suffer losses, commit dubious acts. Restraint, indecision, no success in business, shame, loss of horses or livestock.
With Mercury: The subject may appear to be sophisticated in the affairs of life, calm and reserved, but if he is angered, he is able to respond sharply and unambiguously. Can be highly free-thinking. Many owners of a negative horoscope will be open and noisy, they are distinguished by selfishness and envy, a tendency to associate with unwanted people. Possible complications with the law, domestic problems. With any type of natal chart, a masked disease is possible. Duplicity, evil temper, vile companions, arrest, a dangerous illness – however, recovery is possible; a crime; there is some kind of mystery in life – perhaps related to children; discord in the house.
With Venus: As a rule, these people are free from prejudice. Able to achieve the location of very different people. They seem unperturbed. With a negative impact, the star makes the subject immoral, selfish, often rude. Violence is possible. Calm character, jealousy, selfishness; profit.
With Mars: Such people like to be in the center of attention, they are able to achieve an honorable position, attract many friends, are distinguished by ingenuity and intelligence. Some of them may be grumpy. Violence is possible. Dishonesty, crime, violence, bad environment, ridiculous or violent death.
With Jupiter: High position in politics, literary pursuits and in any field of activity related to public relations. Leader abilities. The subject is a good organizer, but he needs to be careful in choosing partners. Legal complications are possible, although not too serious. Deceit, dishonesty, extravagance, vile companions, danger of arrest.
With Saturn: indecisiveness, strong passions, bad habits, bad company, family may disown a person; possibly several unhappy marriages; the early death of a beloved child; death from tuberculosis.
With Uranus: perversity, resourcefulness, brilliant linguist, adherence to rotten morality, trouble with members of the opposite sex; bad for marriage; many enemies; extraordinary adventures abroad – sometimes that means espionage; unfavorable for earnings, death under gloomy circumstances.
With Neptune: active mind, weak character, yielding, being ruined by the opposite sex, organizational skills, obtaining a high position, then disfavor, troubles due to fire, water, electricity; death due to an accident or at the hands of a murderer.

If you ask most k-12 students what they don’t like about school, their lists will be lengthy. While online school students won’t make the usual complaints about getting up early for long bus rides or eating cafeteria food like most kids will, their lists will typically include such items as:
Taking tests
Writing papers
Mastering Subjects X, Y, or Z
Handling stress
Dealing with cyberbullying
But ask cognitive psychologist Daniel T. Willingham the same question and you’ll get a much more surprising answer:
Thinking Is Hard
According to Willingham, students dislike school because thinking is hard, effortful, and slow. As he explains in his recently revised, second edition of “Why Don’t Students Like School,” thinking requires students to:
Retrieve information from their immediate environment and the vast factual storehouse of their long-term memory
Combine that information in new ways in their more limited, short-term working memory
Imagine solutions based on those new combinations
So, even though they’re naturally curious, students (and the rest of us, too!) will avoid thinking—unless the learning conditions are right.
What Are the Right Conditions for Thinking?
The proper conditions for learning are the conditions or activities that allow students to experience the pleasurable rush of solving problems—whether those problems are algebra equations or struggling to understand Shakespeare’s sonnets.
In fact, neuroscientists believe that the pleasurable rush may be the actual rush of chemicals produced by the brain’s natural reward system. Remember how it feels to get that last crossword, Sudoku, or Jeopardy answer? Well, students love that feeling of success just as much as you do.
Why Do Students Say “I Hate School?”
So, when a student hates school, Willingham says what they’re actually disliking are the conditions that rob thinking of its pleasure, such as:
Working on problems that are too easy or too difficult.
If a problem is too easy, your student will get no pleasure from solving it. If the problem appears too difficult, your student will shut down the thought process because it seems to offer no pleasurable payoff. As in “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” the problems have to be “just right.”
Tackling problems that assume too much background knowledge.
We’ve all faced this one before, but think of it from a second-grader’s viewpoint. Asked to solve “What is 18 × 7?” in her head, she’ll need to know not only that 8 × 7 is 56 but also the procedure for doing the math. Lacking even one piece of required background knowledge, she’ll be unable to solve the problem. If this happens often enough, you’ll end up with a student who dislikes school.
Working on problems that exceed the limits of working memory.
Working memory is the limited “space” where ideas are briefly held and manipulated. It can get quickly overcrowded by “multistep instructions, lists of unconnected facts, chains of logic more than two or three steps long, and the application of a just-learned concept to new material (unless the concept is quite simple).”
As working memory becomes crowded, thinking becomes increasingly difficult. To put it another way:
How Parents and Learning Coaches Can Help
Collaboration is the key. As a parent or a Connections Academy® Learning Coach in a virtual school, you’re in an ideal position to know that your student becomes frustrated when assignments are too hard or bored when they’re too easy. You’ll also know when learning conditions are “just right” for giving your online student that pleasurable rush of problem-solving success.
With your help and feedback, virtual school teachers can better understand your individual student’s thought processes and help ensure the very best conditions for thinking, learning, and liking school. We hope these insights from cognitive psychology will help you support your child’s education and allow you to become the best Learning Coach you can be.
Of course, there may be other reasons your teenage student doesn’t like school. Find out how online school can help struggling teens.

Why Don’t Students Like School? Cognitive Science Explains
Skip to content
Most people in the world enjoy to constantly learn as a natural factor of living a fulfilling life. However, during the school-age years, many students have an anathema towards learning, which brings us to the question: Why don’t students like school?
There are many reasons that are inherent in the education system which makes school undesirable for many students around the world. Here, we will look at some of the reasons why students may consider school to be a negative experience, rather than a positive, uplifting and gratifying one.

Why Don’t Students Like School?
1. Conformity and Constriction
Classes are not directed toward each individual student, but rather curriculums are designed and delivered to an entire class regardless of the student’s ability, which ultimately leads to boredom and frustration.
Additionally, schools often develop a system of time restriction, which means that the teacher is expected to be at a certain point of the curriculum at a specific time with no leeway given for either struggling or advanced students.
2. Lack of Freedom
Cognitive scientist Daniel T. Wilingham published a book called Why Don’t Students Like School? In it, he shares his thesis that students don’t like school because teachers don’t understand cognitive principles, and in turn, they don’t teach as well as they could. However, he doesn’t pay much attention to the aspect of freedom, or lack thereof, when it comes to school. Students are expected to be in the same place at the same time, day in and day out. They don’t have a choice of when they begin and end learning, when they can eat a snack, when they can do exercise and more.
Although this structure is beneficial at a young age because there needs to be some layout for organization, it gets less productive as students get older. On the other hand, when students enter college, they often enjoy the experience much more because they have more freedom. However, traditional college campuses still require that students be at a certain place during a certain time to attend scheduled lectures, office hours and discussion groups.
To counteract these feelings of constriction, one of the most free ways to learn, in nearly every sense of the word, is to attend an online university. University of the People is not only tuition-free, but it also benefits students who want to design their own schedule and continue to take care of their responsibilities outside of school, like work and family. With online education, students have the freedom to access course material and discussion groups whenever they want to.
3. Memorization Over Understanding
Many schools still expect students to memorize facts that won’t be useful in their life, but instead, the instructors use this as a tool to test students. Then, students are expected to regurgitate the same information with no actual comprehension and critical thinking. However, in life, memorization is less important, especially as digital technology continues to expand. Rather, problem solving, communication and critical thinking skills are of utmost importance.
4. Standardized Testing
More often than not, school systems use standardized tests to measure a child’s intelligence. This is often a faulty indication of a child’s intelligence due to various reasons. It is apparent that oftentimes the students have not learned what is being questioned, and multiple choice questions require less cognitive thought than response work, which engages the child in the need to understand the material, gain interest, and interpret the material by using inferential thinking and high-level critical analysis in order to better process ideas.
5. Interest Levels
Another aspect of learning involves the success level that can be achieved by a student, which is highly linked to age-appropriateness of the material being taught and then tested. Additionally, a child needs to have some interest in the material in order to benefit from learning and retaining what is learned. Learning cannot be isolated but must be delivered in context in order for a student to learn and apply Bloom’s Taxonomy to produce higher-level skills like the acquisition of factual knowledge to process thought.
It is essential to understand new ideas in the context of what has previously been learned. Learning is continuous and as we grow, so we process ideas better from previously learned concepts. In other words, an adult thinks completely differently to a child when presented with material since an adult is more likely to process the ideas from a different and more mature point of view.
6. Outside Factors
It has been discovered that both genes and one’s environment play a role in learning. Intelligence occurs from taking risks and remaining persistent in the desire to achieve, as well as genes. In studying the role of nature and nurture, psychologists have found that hereditary genes do impact one’s intelligence. However, genes are not the only impactful determinant of intelligence. Environmental factors like nutrition, formal schooling, toxic substances and more do impact one’s ability to learn and retain information.
Benefits of School
Regardless of some students’ contempt or dislike of school, there are many benefits to attending school, especially to earn one’s higher education degree. These include:
Networking: School is where many people make lifelong friends. As students get older, they also have the ability to network with peers that could lead to business opportunities and more.
Learning: Naturally, schools are designed for learning and educational purposes, and therefore, it is where most people learn both basic and specific information that helps them in jobs and in life.
Socialization: Students learn from being around people their age, as well as older and younger students. These socialization skills prepare people for the workplace, becoming a parent and more.
Life Skills: There are many life skills that are honed during one’s educational lifetime, which are transferable both in jobs and at home. These include time management skills, communication skills, organization, responsibility and more.

Benefits of Online Learning
When it comes to higher education, the freedom to choose one’s learning environment only expands. This means that students from anywhere in the world can choose to earn their higher education degrees with nothing more than an internet connection, thanks to online schools like the University of the People who believe in education as a human right.
These benefits include:
Freedom and flexibility to choose when to learn by logging on
Democratization and accessibility for people all around the world to quality higher education
Lower cost college that is tuition-free and still supports scholarships and financial aid
Big benefits like increased job prospects and salary expectations
The Bottom Line
After some consideration, it becomes more clear why students don’t like school. But, at the same time, it’s easy to see why school becomes more desirable as people grow up and gain more freedom to choose their own learning environment. Although people have different ways of learning, school does offer a good starting point for socialization, networking, education and the opportunity to instill a lifelong love of learning.

90,000 11 years of hard labor. Why do our kids hate school?
Problems of modern school
Why in our schools, despite the great efforts made by our education officials, it has become so hard and tedious to study? Why do our children perceive school as the most unpleasant memories of their lives?
So we celebrated a birthday. We are 7 years old. Kindergarten is over and we are preparing to enter school. During this period, for a child, the whole world is a huge interesting place, where every day there are new impressions, new events and new joys. But, this is only true until the age of 7, when our children are faced with an educational institution called school. nine0005
* All children expect something unusual and interesting from the school.
How many expectations and worries from the first trip to school. Prepared all notebooks and textbooks. Checked pencils, pens, erasers. All this is neatly folded into pencil cases and placed in satchels and briefcases. Waiting for something unusual and beautiful, a new stage in a small seven-year life.
* crossing the threshold of a school for the first time – what could be more interesting? nine0005
The first of September. Many unfamiliar children. Happy smiling mom and dad stand on the sidelines in a group of parents like them who brought their children to school for the first time. There are many flowers everywhere, music is heard. And now the first teacher takes the first-graders lined up in pairs to the first lesson in their short life… ” nine0027 Can I not go to school today? ”
* a typical class of a Russian general education school. Everything is the same as fifty years ago. All the same desks, textbooks on the tables, knapsacks and backpacks.
He goes to school for some time, he diligently does his homework, but…, the negative moments grow and, in the end, most of our children begin to perceive school as some kind of punishment. And when homework begins, you can completely forget about the former happy life.0005
* a typical picture in the lesson
From this moment on, the child becomes hostage to a rigid educational system , which turns his existence into one continuous hard day with lack of sleep, cramming, lessons, reproaches from parents and teachers. And so 11 years …!
Why does the modern system of Russian education develop in most students a persistent aversion to it?
Why do many high school students remember it as a difficult and undesirable period in their lives?
Is it like this everywhere?
Learning, of course, is not easy, but it is in the power of adults to set up the learning process correctly, to interest a small student in the very process of obtaining knowledge. Someone will say that this is impossible, that school is always a compulsion. And often, such an opinion can be heard from people in one way or another connected with our education. nine0005
I want to tell these people that they are wrong!
There are examples of a completely different approach to school education. And you don’t have to go far for them. Look at our closest neighbor – Finland . * this is how a small rural school in Finland looks like
* Finnish schools have no fences, USE and GEF
Finnish schools do not have fences, USE or GEF, and teachers do not hide from their parents behind fences and guards.
Education for children in Finland is fundamentally different from ours!
* this is how Finnish school classes look like In Finland, they adhere to the theory that individual subjects themselves, such as geography, history, mathematics, etc. , are boring enough for a purposeful “mono” study. But if these same subjects are coupled with another question, then studying them is much more interesting. nine0005
Here is an example:
World War II. Using her example, Finnish schoolchildren study not only the historical aspect of this event, but also touch geography , mathematics , drawing and even singing . In a word, you need to “ catch on to event ” and build on it in the study of various subjects.
* at a lesson in a Finnish school.
And taking, for example, the course “ Fundamentals of working in a restaurant / cafe “, students will be able to better understand micro- and macroeconomics, practice speaking in English and improve their communication skills with other people.
This study option for young schoolchildren is much more interesting than the usual memorization of lessons from textbooks, as is done in our country.
* in a Finnish school class
Unlike us, Finland has been a leader in the international education quality assessment PISA for several years now.
According to the results of the analysis of the International Program for the Assessment of Educational Achievements (PISA), the indicators of the quality of Russian education have decreased over the past three years. In the ranking of 79 countries for 2018, Russian schoolchildren were in 31st place in reading literacy (479 points out of 1000), in 30th place in mathematical literacy (488 points) and in 33rd place in science literacy (478 points). ). This is stated in a report published on Tuesday, December 3, on the website of the Federal Institute for Educational Quality Assessment, which is the national center for PISA in Russia. nine0005
That is why the eyes of the world educational science have been riveted to the Finnish education system for the third year in an attempt to determine the reasons for success and transfer positive experience into their realities.
* Lessons take place in a simple and relaxed atmosphere.
* and sometimes the lesson can be held right in the school lobby.
Why don’t our officials come up with new Federal State Educational Standards that drive our education system into the “backyard” of the world educational process, but simply try to adopt the already tested and successful education option from our closest neighbors? nine0005
Maybe in this case a comprehensive school for our children will not be associated with 11 years of hard labor?

10 reasons why children do not want to go to school
Timofey Drogin, 11-year-old speaker of the teen-conference “Tomorrow named_”, tells why children lose their desire to learn and eventually start to just hate school. nine0241
I am about a year old in this photo.
I’m already five years old on this one, I went to kindergarten to prepare for school.
And this is me in the first grade.
See the difference? Now I will tell you about ten reasons why children do not like to go to school.
1. Teacher
When you first come to school, they immediately try to instill fear in you. One of them is the fear of the teacher.
2. Fear of evaluation
After the first fear, evaluation fear develops. And then the fear of punishment by parents, the headmaster. At school, they don’t look at who you are, you are judged only by your grades.
3. Fear of making a mistake
Another fear is the fear of making a mistake. School does not teach that it is possible and necessary to make mistakes, because this is the only way you can learn something.
4. Trolling
Another reason is ridicule from classmates. And it’s often the fault of teachers who make fun of children by pointing out that they are not doing something as well as their classmates. For them, the grade is more important than the student. I went to the children’s creativity club, I learned to weave from beads, sculpt from dough, make leather bracelets and much more. And when a teacher from my circle came to my school to offer a master class and told about my achievements, the head teacher was surprised: “Timofey? This can’t be!” nine0005
5. Stupid tests
These tests given in class are incredibly stupid because they don’t have a choice of answer. The child, in order to get a good grade, tries to guess one answer from those offered, but he may have his own opinion, which he cannot write. I do not think that the time will come when everyone will remember all the capitals of the world, everything that Taras Shevchenko wrote, the square root of five. It seems to me that if a person becomes interested in something, he will learn more than a child in 10 years of school. And if he needs knowledge from other areas, then he can easily get it. nine0005
6. Volume of homework
I have read that there is no evidence that homework affects children’s performance and education. Once I was given so many English assignments that after three hours of writing I got up and could not straighten my neck. I was taken to the emergency room, and for a whole week I walked in a neck brace.
7. Prohibition of uniqueness
Schools do not like very much if someone is different from others. It starts with the teacher, is passed on to the students and stays with them for life. nine0005
8. School doesn’t teach you to be happy
I read that when John Lennon of The Beatles was five years old, his mother told him that the most important thing in life was to be happy. Then he went to school and was asked there: “What do you dream of becoming in life?”. He replied: “Happy.” They told him, “You don’t understand the task.” To which he replied: “You do not understand life.”
9. School does not teach how to work with information
For example, I watch a YouTube channel where a physics teacher explains the material in an easy and entertaining way. Reading or viewing such resources can replace dozens of boring lessons. nine0005
10. School does not prepare for adult life
School is preparation for adult life. But it does not teach how to maintain and increase income, or how to get it, or, in general, how to earn. I believe that the main subject at school could be a subject in which we would be taught to understand each other. After all, the ability to communicate is the most important thing.
6 tips for kids to survive in school
1 . To learn how to survive in school, you need to have a life outside of it.
