The turkey is the largest poultry after ostriches. An adult turkey can weigh up to 35 kilograms. Although turkeys are chickens, they are still able to fly, so poultry have their wings clipped.

Mix oil, soy sauce in a bowl. Cut the meat into small cubes or strips and marinate.
At this time, wash the apple and onion. Remove the core from the apple and cut into cubes.
Fry the onion rings in a tablespoon of oil until golden brown. Add the turkey to it along with the marinade and fry for several minutes over high heat, stirring occasionally.
Reduce heat, add apples, spices and salt to the meat and simmer covered for 10-15 minutes.

If the turkey is frozen, thaw the bird in the refrigerator first and drain the water. Wash the carcass and pat dry.
Make a marinade: boiled water can be used, but pre-cooked and strained vegetable broth (from carrots, onions, bay leaves) is much tastier.
Boil water or broth (2 liters), add dry rosemary, thyme, sage, sugar and salt and pepper. After boiling, cook for a few minutes and cool.
After cooling, immerse the turkey breast side down in the marinade. It is good to put oppression on the carcass. Cover with a lid or cling film. Marinate for about 6 – 7 hours in the refrigerator, it is better not to overdo it, otherwise the meat will be tougher.
On the day of roasting, remove the bird from the marinade, rinse under water. Prepare fruits and vegetables with which we will stuff the turkey. Cut the apple, orange and onion into quarters. Pierce tangerines with sprigs of fresh rosemary and thyme. Citrus fruits do not need to be peeled.
Lay the turkey breast-side up on a baking sheet, tying the legs together. Place a rack on a baking sheet first. It is necessary that the bird does not touch the bottom, otherwise the skin will get wet. Pour water into the bottom so that it is covered by 1 finger. Put onion, apple, orange, tangerines inside the bird, spread the excess around. Brush the breast with olive oil.
Place in the preheated oven on the bottom rack, covered with foil. Immediately reduce the temperature to 180. Periodically open and water the bird with juice.
Roasting time depends on the weight of the turkey. 1 kg of meat – 40 minutes. In the last hour, remove the foil, spread the butter on top of the breast and bake. Continue pouring juice.
Cover with foil for half an hour before serving to enhance the flavor of the meat. Next, cut the bird into portions.

ExceleRate Illinois. The staff together have over 100 years
of experience in education of young children. Our
philosophy is to educate and provide a safe and nurturing
environment for all children. We are an active part in the
Downers Grove community. Our focus is to build strong
relationships with families. We would love to see your family

and designed to help aid each milestone in their development. Our

Meet Wendy Mendoza! She is the Center Director at Spring Street KinderCare in South Elgin, IL. Wendy attended Carthage College, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She has been with KinderCare since 2002, helping families in various capacities. Every day, Wendy looks forward to meeting new families and providing children with a fun and nurturing learning environment. “Play is the work of children.” – Mr. Rogers. Outside of work, Wendy enjoys gardening, reading, and traveling with her family.

Spring Street KinderCare Programs
Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)
Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.
Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)
Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.
Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)
This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.
Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)
This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!
Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)
When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.
Kindergarten Programs (5–6 Years)
Welcome to kindergarten: the gateway to grade school and everything that
comes next! Offered in select centers, our kindergarten programs have small
class sizes and curriculums that mix learning and fun. The basic building
blocks of reading, writing, math, and science are key in kindergarten, so we
make sure they get lots of practice in all of these areas.
Before- and After-School Programs (5–12 Years)
You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!
Interactive Kindergarten (5–6 Years)
Kindergarten is a critical year for young learners. Experienced KinderCare teachers will
tap into your child’s natural curiosity to help get them even more prepared for
elementary school. Our engaging lessons make the most of current technology while
offering plenty of hands-on play and exploration.
School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)
Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.

KinderCare partners with Child Care Aware® of America to offer fee assistance for
Active Duty military families and flexible support to fit their needs when care at a Child
Development Center on the installation is not available.
Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program
Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)
KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.
Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)
Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)
STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)
You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
amazing things!

Do you support alternative diets?
We strive to be as inclusive as possible. To that point, we provide a vegetarian option at mealtime, take care to not serve common allergens and can adapt menus based on your child’s food sensitivities. If your child has additional needs, we’ll work with you to figure out a plan.
Are meals included in tuition? Can I choose to send my child with lunch?
We provide nutritious meals and snacks developed by a registered dietician to meet the needs of rapidly growing bodies and minds. If your child has special dietary requirements and you would prefer to bring in their lunch, please make arrangements with the center director.
Does my child need to be potty-trained?
Every child begins toilet learning at a different age. Until your child shows an interest in toilet learning, we’ll provide diaper changes on an as-needed basis. When your child shows an interest, we’ll discuss how to work together to encourage toilet learning.

STEPS is a five-day camp that introduces rising 7th-grade students to the world of science, technology, and engineering. Students will be provided with a fully-stocked kit of materials and tools so that they can build and play along with the curriculum. Through this program, students will also participate in exciting remote activities with other students from West Michigan, including virtual field trips to Michigan’s high-tech manufacturing facilities, airport hangars, and more.
SUMMER HEALTH ACTIVITIES AND PROFESSIONS EXPLORATION CAMP (SHAPE CAMP)
2020 has shown us how important healthcare workers are in our communities — and GVSU’s sHaPe camp will show rising 8th and 9th-grade students what a career in this field could look like. Campers will learn about physical therapy, medical lab science, sports medicine, nursing, and more. They will gain hands-on experiences as they learn about the different bones in the body, how to use a stethoscope to measure heart and respiratory rates, and how to use modern lab analysis equipment.
EXPLORING CAREERS IN EDUCATION & LEADERSHIP CAMP (EXCEL): JUNE 21-25
The EXCEL camp is a great opportunity for rising high school seniors to learn more about the field of education, develop their own leadership skills and prepare their plans for after graduation. At this camp, students will work together to design a high-impact community-based project, explore the GVSU campus and learn more about the college application progress as they prepare for senior year.

Schools for foreigners in South Korea
Historically, the system of higher education in Korea has developed on the experience of progressive teaching methods in Japan, Germany, the USA and Russia. It developed actively in the second half of the last century. Now the country is among the leaders in terms of the number of students in higher educational institutions. Foreign schools in Korea play a significant role in this. They are intended for the children of employees and help to understand the national culture, learn the language, and acquire knowledge. The high level of teaching and technical equipment attract citizens of other countries from all over the world.
School for foreigners in Korea: features of education
Pre-school education can be obtained in kindergarten. There are public and private forms in the country. Communication in any preschool takes place only in Korean. In some kindergartens there is a practice of separate groups with English. Both of these languages are included in the list of the main subjects of the school curriculum. In addition to them, students study:
Mathematics and other exact sciences.
Social science.
Music.
Fine arts.
Most international educational institutions operate on a fee basis. An elementary school for foreigners in Korea costs approximately 5,000 euros annually. For senior classes, the cost gradually increases to 6500 euros. There is a one-time entrance fee up to 1000 euros.
Admission
Documents are submitted directly to the educational institution. Enrollment takes place on a competitive basis or on a general basis. There are several options to start studying at an international school:
Summer programs. Foreign students try their hand at learning languages, get acquainted with culture and traditions, communicate in a team. Parents, watching their children, make a decision about the advisability of studying in this educational institution.
Short programs. They are designed for 2-6 weeks. During this time, the child adapts to the new environment and gradually gets used to the learning process.
Distance learning. Demanded in many schools. This is due either to remote residence, or to the inability to actively engage in the development of the school curriculum. Upon completion of such a course, students also receive a full-fledged Korean certificate.
Full board. It involves the provision of educational, medical services and food. It must be borne in mind that with such a residence, the student must be under the supervision of one of the parents or an adult guardian.
Almost all of them are accepting applications all year round. Foreigners are required to have a document on previous education and a study visa, lasting at least the period of study.
How to choose a school for foreigners
The determining factor, of course, is the language. Miscommunication can lead to poor academic performance. You don’t have to worry about the psychological situation. Almost everywhere there are small classes. Therefore, each student is given enough attention. It is recommended to take into account when choosing:
Distance from home.
Availability of school bus and convenient route.
Language of instruction.
Queue waiting period for admission.
In addition to the compulsory subjects, many educational institutions offer a variety of developmental courses. Art courses are very popular. For example, Kirin School. Its graduates are known far beyond the borders of the country. While receiving education, many already become famous due to their abilities and promotion system.
Types of foreign educational institutions
Both traditional and specialized forms of organization of the educational process are available to foreign children. Some suggest the usual 5-day rhythm, others work year-round or only on weekends. To create a good psychological environment, truncated programs or age restrictions are sometimes offered. Main Types of Institutions:
Seoul Yongsan International School operates in the Hannan-dong district of Seoul with government support. It is designed for 1000 students. For children of foreign citizens, 30 classrooms, a gym, a swimming pool, music and computer classes, a library, a canteen are equipped.
Intercultural schools. They are designed to adapt to the language environment. Foreign students enter for 1 year. Often even a class below. But having mastered the language, they can go from the preparatory class immediately to the second. The foreign school in Korea also accepts ethnic Koreans. For example, the Dasom School in Seoul is supported by the state. Accordingly, education is free. Mandatory conditions for admission are the residence of parents in the Republic of Kazakhstan, a student visa valid until graduation (F 4-6).
Busan Year-Round Primary School. It is intended for students from Russia, China, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia. The educational institution works all year round, it is believed that this is optimal for adaptation in a new country. For 6 years, Korean and native languages, general education subjects have been studied. Training does not involve payment. Teachers also work free of charge, on a voluntary basis.
Choosing a paid or free form, you need to visit the institution in advance and get acquainted not only with the teachers, but also get as much information about the documents, equipment, daily routine, certificate form.
Choice of teaching language
Secondary education can be obtained by almost any foreigner. It is important to start learning where the native language is present. The Korean language is mastered in parallel and gradually the process of obtaining knowledge is simplified. Seoul schools can serve as an example, where, in addition to Korean, their native language is taught, so it is easy for foreigners to study in Korea.

To provide children with a decent education, citizens of other countries do not have to hire expensive tutors. South Korean hospitality and attention to visitors make everyone feel quite comfortable. Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

Specialists from Voronezh got acquainted with the experience of solving autism problems in the USA North Carolina, home of TEACCH
In April 2013, a team of specialists working with autistic children traveled to the USA. The trip took place within the framework of the Open World program, which has been organizing the exchange of business experience between the CIS countries, Europe and the USA for more than 10 years. The delegation included employees of the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Children and Adolescents with Special Needs “Sail of Hope” from the city of Voronezh, a social worker from the inclusive kindergarten No. 167 in Voronezh, and Yulia Suslova, a project manager for the Vykhod charity foundation.

The Vykhod Foundation expresses its gratitude to the staff of the Open World Program and, personally, to the Program Director in Russia, Alexander Khilkov. We also express our gratitude to the project coordinator of the Library of Congress Anastasia Kornienko, who provided support for the delegation. The Vykhod Foundation expresses special gratitude to Boris Iosifovich Mints (FC Otkritie) and Ekaterina Yuryevna Genieva (VGBIL named after M. I. Rudomino). Without the personal participation of these people, the trip could not have taken place.
The group spent the first two days of the trip in Washington, D.C., where they met with aides to the North Carolina state senator and congressman. In addition, Russian specialists were able to see the city as part of a bus tour. Almost immediately, the group went to their main destination – the state of North Carolina, with beautiful nature and a mild climate. The host was the American Foundation “The Power of Friendship”, which mainly consists of socially active elderly people. For representatives of Russia, the program was organized by a family couple – Judy and Bill Wilks. Russian specialists lived in the homes of the Fund’s program participants.

The stay program included visits to various institutions – schools, diagnostic and treatment centers, public organizations.
Community organizations and support groups
Russian specialists visited the branch of the largest public organization, the Autism Society, in North Carolina. This charity provides a wide range of services for all autistic people over the age of 5, as well as their families. Among the organization’s projects: support for parents in protecting the rights of their children, an annual conference, trainings and seminars, a summer camp for autistic children, a specialized bookstore.
Support for adults with autism plays an important role in the work of the Autism Society. The organization has an employment service that advises potential employers, explaining the possible advantages of an autistic employee. Adults with autism are also offered accompaniment at work and at home.
The organization operates a production workshop for supported employment of autistic people with a recreation room and an art room. The workshop produces decorative canvas bags with the logo of the organization and pictures of autists. The Autism Society currently provides 100 families affected by autism with 115 staff members.
Specialists from Russia also got acquainted with support groups for parents of children with autism. The first support group meets at the local Methodist church. The parents meet once a month, together with the children, specialists and the local priest. They spend time together, organize leisure activities for children and, most importantly, find friends.

The small public organization “House of Saint Gerard” operates several support groups at once – a group for parents, a group for brothers and sisters of autists, a group for children with autism, a group for autistic teenagers, a group for adults with autism.
Diagnosis and treatment of autism
A delegation from Russia visited several centers providing services for the diagnosis and treatment of autism. First of all, it was the TEACCH center – the so-called popular method of teaching and correcting autism, which was developed in North Carolina. Therefore, it is not surprising that this method dominates in almost all organizations that, in one way or another, deal with autism in this American state.
The TEACCH project was founded in 1996 in the department of psychiatry at the University of North Carolina Medical School. In 1972, TEACCH became the first program in the state to provide services to children and adults with autism and related developmental disabilities. The principles and concepts of the TEACCH approach are as follows:
– Improving adaptive skills through learning and changing the environment to compensate for deficits in autism.
— Cooperation of parents with specialists, parents are co-therapists of their children, all techniques are continued at home.
— Treatment is maximally individualized, a program for each person is compiled on the basis of regular testing of abilities.
– Structured learning. Children with autism have been shown to learn more easily in a well-structured learning environment than in a free environment.
– Strengthening existing skills: testing reveals which skills are beginning to form in the child, and the emphasis is on them.
– Cognitive Behavioral Approach: Learning is based on the theory that problem behaviors are the result of problems in perception and understanding.
– General approach: TEACCH specialists are not divided into psychologists, speech therapists and teachers, they work with the child as a whole.

To this day, TEACCH provides the widest range of services that people affected by autism can need: diagnostics, individualized treatment programs, special education, social skills training, vocational training, counseling for schools, parent education. The Center regularly hosts support groups for people with autism: for adults with high-functioning autistics, for women, for adolescents with autism.
Parent training sessions are often held, during which the main focus is on those areas of life where the most problems arise. This approach allows you to motivate parents and involve them in classes. Methods are also selected based on the convenience and needs of parents. Individual consultations for parents are combined with group trainings (the Center has developed a 10-day course for parents of children with autism). In addition, the Center is actively engaged in research activities.
In addition, the Russian delegation visited the Mahec training center, which is funded by the state budget. In fact, it acts as a center of excellence in autism for physicians throughout the state. The center focuses on screening and early diagnosis of autism, the specialists of the center have developed a special protocol for pediatricians to screen for autism symptoms at 18 and 24 months. If potential symptoms are identified, the pediatrician refers the child for further examination to one of three specialists – a psychiatrist, a neurologist, or a psychologist.

The Russian delegation also visited the state-funded Blue Ridge Community Medical Center, the private Carolina Pediatric Therapy Medical Center, and the Early Childhood Development Center for children under three years of age. The centers employ special educators, speech therapists, sensory integrators, psychiatrists and social workers.
Children’s educational institutions
Russian specialists visited the central office of the local department of education, where employees told how they combine medicine, pedagogy and the social sphere. Children with autism receive state educational services from ages 3 to 22. Specialists regularly visit children, preschoolers – at home, school-age children – in schools. For each child with special needs, an individual curriculum is drawn up, which is developed collegially with the participation of doctors, teachers, and parents. If possible, the child himself/herself is involved in the preparation of the curriculum. An individual curriculum is drawn up for one year, during this period it can be adjusted at the initiative of the participants. The individual plan group meets at least once a month. Funding for the education of children with special needs is provided by the state’s annual budget.
Delegates from Russia also visited the Henderson County Public Elementary School, which has two classes for only children with autism. There are 7-8 children in one class with one teacher and two teacher assistants. During the day, students are waiting for both general classes and individual classes with teachers or on a computer. In the classrooms, in accordance with the TEACCH approaches, the entire space is divided into zones: a locker room, a corner for unloading, a domestic area, fenced tables for classes. A separate room is equipped for workshops and art classes, which were appreciated by an art therapy specialist from Voronezh. If possible, children from separate classes are included in the work of the general class of elementary school.
Sensory integration equipment designed or made by the teachers themselves: pockets are sewn into jackets and trousers for weighting, for example, with pebbles.
Specialists also got acquainted with the private school – “Grotto”, which operates at the “House of St. Gerard”. The basis of school education is applied behavioral analysis (ABA). The school is supported by contributions from parents, as well as private donations, grants and other charitable funds. Thanks to this, the school manages to provide each student with expensive treatment – 32 hours of individual ABA therapy per week. In each class, there is one teacher for 5-6 people per student, in addition to classes in a separate class, students attend a kindergarten with neurotypical children. The school was founded thanks to the initiative of several parents of autistic children.
Another private institution is the Irene Wortham Early Childhood Center, a day care center for children with special needs aged six months to six years. The cost of studying in such a kindergarten for parents is 600-700 dollars a month, plus the kindergarten receives grants and private donations.
A delegation from the foundation is examining an ABA-class device. The premises were built according to a special project.
Another private school is Talisman Academy, a boarding house outside the city in a beautiful mansion overlooking the mountains. At first it was a summer camp for children with special needs, then separate groups appeared in the “academy”. Now a boarding house has appeared here with a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, and classrooms in separate “trailers”. Children constantly live in a boarding house, parents take them home several times a year, or live nearby to visit them more often. Most children come here only for the summer, as in the camp, but some live in a boarding house permanently.
The life of adult autistics
One of the most important goals of the visit was the life of autistic people over 18 years old, because in Russia there is no successful experience in solving these problems, while in the United States, due to earlier diagnosis, the issue of “boom” is now very acute young adults with autism diagnosed in early childhood. At the Autism Society, members of the Russian delegation were told about the so-called “group houses” where adults with autism live under the supervision of escorts. However, the Russian participants especially remembered one unique institution – the Marlo House.
This private house was bought by three families with adults with autism. In the event of the death of the tenants, it will remain a home for adults with autism due to a special legal status. Now three young people live in the house: they are 27, 28 and 32 years old, two of them work. Each of them has his own room, in addition, the house has a common space, which includes a kitchen, living room and workshop. Household assistants work in shifts, and in total these three young people are accompanied by five specialists: shift housekeepers and people who accompany them to work.

Residents have not only a job, but also a creative hobby. One works in production, draws and donates his paintings for charity sales. The other earns by washing dishes in a restaurant and doing animation. The third young man does not work due to severe cognitive limitations.
Life in the home is fully adapted to the needs of people with autism. There is a visual schedule throughout, including visual instructions in toilets and showers. The living space is no less structured than in TEACCH classes, for example, one of the residents in the closet has only two types of clothing: white shirts with black trousers or T-shirts with jeans. Someone on duty hangs one of the sets in the foreground, and the young man immediately understands where he is going now: to work or for a walk.
Such a house is unfortunately not typical and is funded by private funds. Families of young people have established a trust fund, the interest from which directly pays for the services of escorts.
The daily quota for an autistic worker at Shoebox Tasks is determined by the number of kits completed. Each one is marked with a sticker. When the stickers run out, the autistic person knows the job is done.
One of the residents of the House of Marlo works at a unique enterprise – in the production of Shoebox Tasks development kits (translated as “tasks for a shoe box”). By themselves, these kits deserve special attention. The company is the idea of a teacher who worked at the Montessori school. “Boxes” are in great demand among professionals who work with children with special needs, including children with autism. The base is a plastic “shoe” box. Various items are completed in the box, with which you need to perform various manipulations: select the correct holes for objects of different shapes, string them on top of each other, remove clothespins and throw them into the correct holes, throw buttons into a transparent pipe with water, fold plastic cups and so on. Entry level kit – 16 boxes ($400), full kit – 32 boxes ($600). Everything is handmade from sustainable materials.
However, production is important not only because of useful kits for children with autism – autistic people work in the production itself, while the company exists without any subsidies, simply due to self-sufficiency. This is an ingenious example of a project that not only created jobs for people with autism, but also produces a creative and really interesting product.
Assembly workers are people with autism and quite severe disabilities. They receive the minimum wage, otherwise they may lose disability benefits and health insurance. The entire production process is also adapted for the perception and cognitive characteristics of people with autism: everything is numbered, signed with arrows, the places for tools are circled with markers. Each worker marks the assembled kits with special stickers. When the stickers run out, the person realizes that he has done all the work – thus, he can always determine the amount of work ahead.
Returning to work in Russia, specialists from Voronezh unpack methodological materials “in shoeboxes” donated by colleagues from the USA.
“In the field of working with autism, I came up with several general conclusions at once. First, people with special needs are practically part of everyday life in the US. Absolutely everyone with whom we met not only knows what autism is, but has something to do with it. The senator’s aide’s mom runs a center for autistic children. The congressman’s aide’s wife is a psychiatrist in the know. Some people have autistic children or grandchildren, others have children or grandchildren working with autistic people,” Yulia Suslova, project manager of the Vykhod Foundation sums up the trip, “Secondly, absolutely everyone with whom we talked about our current reality around the problem autism, nodded their heads: “We had it too!” True, they call different periods. Some say 10 years ago, some say 20. Thirdly, most of the people we asked about the source of the energy that pushed autism to the surface say parents of these children . The head of the county’s education department is talking about these people. Both TEACCH and ABA private schools are run by autistic mothers. Public organizations – of course – are made up of parents. It was the parents who started the active work that today has led to all these social projects.”
“And the last thing: there are 0.5 to 1.5 specialists for one little autist. State subsidies for autism insurance are a coveted piece of funding for both public and private organizations. In addition, grants are willingly given for such projects,” she continues.

A rich and varied program, for which we should separately thank the coordinators, a lot of practical exercises, open people who are ready for professional dialogue, interest – this is what should be noted right away.

— I have been a fan of Santa Cruz since childhood. My father also took me to the Estadio dos Platanos stadium,” recalls Thiago Resh, perhaps one of the most famous football fans right now.
Thiago loves the tiny Brazilian club Santa Cruz so much that in 2012 he became known to the whole world as the most devoted fan. A photo spread on social networks where Thiago sits alone in the guest sector of his team at the huge Olympic Stadium during an away game against the formidable Gremio. “Santa Cruz” then, by the way, lost 1:4.
Let’s try to explain what kind of club this “Santa Cruz” is. In Russia, as you know, there is the Premier League, the First League and the Second League. All these are national tournaments. And there are also local ones, like the championship of the Stavropol Territory. So, if “Santa Cruz” played in Russia, then he would fight for the exit from the third league of the Stavropol Territory to the second. That is, “Santa Cruz” by any standards is a small club, but very proud.
The club is based in the municipality of Santa Cruz do Sul in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and plays in the local stadium for seven thousand people. The world first heard about this team when a photo of that “lone fan” Thiago went viral. But then no one paid attention to the team – they looked more at Thiago in glasses and with a plastic glass of beer, worried about his favorite club.

The second time we all heard about the existence of Santa Cruz again at the end of 2020. And thanks again to Thiago. His team won the State Cup and, for the first time in its history, had the opportunity to play in the Copa Brazil, a nationwide tournament with strong opponents. The photo of Thiago has again spread across the networks. He has already become the president of Santa Cruz, led the team to the biggest success in its history, and instead of a glass of beer, now he has a cup.
We contacted Thiago and found out how an ordinary fan can become president of his favorite club.
– In 2014, two years after that famous “match alone”, I started working at the club as a journalist – as a press officer. But since this is a very small club with modest facilities and a small number of employees, I did a lot of other work and even went to meetings of the board of directors, if you can call it that. Just every Friday, the current and former presidents of the club, directors and some other important people met at the stadium, had dinner and discussed business. I started going to such meetings – I listened, I studied.
— How did you manage to change the status of a listener to a discussion participant?
– To give you an idea of how bad things were in 2014, I will say that in 2013, when the club celebrated its centenary, it was relegated from the first league of the state to the second. Therefore, when the 2014 season ended and nothing had changed, I began to offer some ideas, talk about the need for changes, about the fact that the club needed new faces. First, I was offered to bring with me young people with burning eyes. That’s exactly what I did. And then at the next presidential election, I turned out to be the only candidate – they voted for me. So I became the president of Santa Cruz for the first time.
– What does it mean for the first time? Was there a second one?
– Yes, that term ended just a year later – in 2015. We almost flew out of the second division – we played really badly. The club had no money, and I saw no prospects. Therefore, I began to think that the work in the administration of the club was not mine. I left my position and moved to another city – the state capital – to restart my journalistic career there. I was in debt because I invested a lot of my own money in Santa Cruz when I was its president.
— And something made me come back…
— Yes. In 2018, under the leadership of my successor, the club was relegated again – this time to the third league of the state. So I decided it was time to go back and take matters into my own hands again. But this time I chose the right people for the team. Things have gone uphill, and here we are celebrating the first title in the history of the club – in all these 107 years.
– What is this title? Some kind of State Cup?
– Yes, this tournament can be called the State Cup. It features teams from the first, second and third leagues of the state. And the winner gets the opportunity to play in the real Brazilian Cup – at the federal level. And we, a club from the third league of the state, won this tournament and now we will play in the Brazilian Cup. Imagine how fantastic it is!
– Sounds crazy. It’s scary to even imagine where we’ll see you in another eight years. Maybe you will become the President of Brazil.
– Maybe it’s better to think about the final of the Club World Cup with Santa Cruz? For me, this is even better than becoming the President of Brazil. By the way, Jair Bolsonaro is a slightly controversial president, but he is still our president.
