Advances in brain research show that children are born learning, and that their first three years of life in particular are important indicators for the success they can have later in school and in life. Early experiences that are language-rich and nurturing promote healthy brain development. So finding a high-quality early learning setting is essential for parents who work and seek child care.
Once you’ve found a quality setting—from a center-based program to home child care to a relative’s house—here’s some advice from our expert Teresa Bennett a family support specialist at Educare Chicago, a program of Start Early, on how you can prepare your child for their first day of day care.
Visit the Child Care Center To help your child get to know the new environment, visit the child care center with your child before the first day. You and your child can meet the caregiver. Take photos of the route to the center, the center entrance and the room where your child will spend the day. You can assemble the photos as a book, which you can use to talk to your child at home about what their day will be like and where they will go.
Talk to Your Child To help prepare your infant or toddler to go to out-of-home care, explain using language and concepts they will understand about where they’ll be going and what they’ll be doing. Talk about how they will meet new children and participate in fun activities. Always mention that you’ll be back at the end of the day to take them home.
Build a Relationship With the Caregiver Your young child may not be able to talk, but they can observe your actions. They’ll form their opinion of the caregiver based on your reactions. Make time each day to talk to the caregiver and begin building a strong relationship. Caregivers at quality early learning programs see parents as partners and will want to develop a strong relationship with you, your child’s first and most important teacher.
Share Information About Your Child Talk to the caregiver about your child’s cues, likes, dislikes and temperament. How do they like to be fed, soothed and put to sleep? Your tips will help the caregiver know how to best care for your child without having to guess which methods to try. You can also explain what developmental skills you’d like your child to learn. Ask for daily updates about your child’s progress from the caregiver.
Create a Morning Routine Routines help children feel in control of their surroundings, which eases anxiety. Create a morning routine so your infant or toddler knows what to expect before going to the child care center. Find out if the center provides breakfast so you know whether or not your child needs to eat at home.
Develop a Goodbye Ritual Create a goodbye ritual so that your infant or toddler starts to feel comfortable with their caregiver when you leave. Your ritual could be a hug, a high five or interacting together with a toy before you leave. Whatever activity you choose, make sure you take time to talk to your child about what’s happening and don’t rush the process. Once your child becomes used to the goodbye ritual, they’ll be better able to regulate their emotions so that they can calm themself more easily when you go. Learn more about separation anxiety.
Bring a Transitional Object Your child may feel more at ease in a new environment with an object that reminds them of home. This could be a photo of your family that’s laminated or a stuffed animal that your child enjoys. The child can hold the object during the day as a reminder that this new environment is temporary and that you will come back to take them home.
Ask What You Can Do at Home To extend your child’s learning, ask the caregiver what school readiness skills the children will be working on during the day and what related activities you can do at home. The reverse is also true: share information about what activities you are doing at home that your child is interested in and ask if the teacher can do something similar in class.
Complete Any Medical Requirements Find out from the school or center what doctor or dentist appointments must be completed or scheduled before the first day.
Bring a Change of Clothes It’s a good idea to bring a change of clothes for your infant or toddler in case they encounters any water, finger paint, etc. Also ask the center if you need to bring diapers or formula for your child.
Share Your Contact Information Let the caregiver know if it’s best to reach you by phone or email and share that contact information.

If I could recommend a daycare/”preschool” this would not be my choice EVER!! Some of the staff there have issues (won’t name any names). There was an incident involving my child and said teacher, the owner refused me the right to discuss it with the teacher. Apparently this “teacher” is used as “crowd control” and gets loud with the children and has even been heard cursing in front of them. My child attended this center last year, in a different class, with a different teacher and did not experience issues like this before this “teacher showed up”. I hope that other parents ask their children what is going on in this class. I would be concerned if anything like this is happening to other children too. He speaks very poorly to the children and has a very negative and condescending tone. Last year there was an issue with another staff member who ended up being let go because of how she was handling the children. Starting to see a pattern here! Do yourself and your child a favor and choose a different daycare!

Nature Therapy: Spring in New York – Cheaptrip – Carpe Diem
The official date for Spring to New York – is March 20, (spring counter) – at which point the first tender crocuses will appear in Central Park, followed by cherries blossom, luxurious tulips turn yellow against the background of skyscrapers, and now lilacs will float in light clouds over the streets of Manhattan.

In April, the incredible multi-colored spring madness finally reigns in New York – everything except parking meters and fire hydrants blooms, delicate petals soar over the streets, the scent of daffodils spreads along the paths and lawns of Central Park, forsythia bushes explode yellow, the lake is enveloped in pink caps of cherries, and then the time comes for bright magnolias and hydrangeas, azaleas and pink tulips. nine0007
And now is the time to stock up on blankets, sandwiches and hot cocoa (it’s still cold), sit on the grass, look out for migratory birds in the sky and listen to the flowers bloom.
Where to catch fleeting happiness. Central Park, Central Park Reservoir0002 From mid-April until the end of May , the Yoshino, Kanzan, Okame cherry blossoms, donated to New York by the Japanese government back in 1912, bloom around the vast expanse of the lake, and rhododendrons bloom with them.

Frick Collection, Letter E
One of the hallmarks of New York spring, the magnolias bloom outside the classic facade of the atmospheric Frick Collection museum on 5th Avenue near Central Park.
The 18th century French manor house and surrounding gardens were once the residence of Henry Clay Frick, a coal and steel magnate and art collector. Three varieties of magnificent magnolias are planted in front of the facade, a fountain gurgles in the inner garden in the middle of the pond, low living fences separate the paths from flowering azaleas, hydrangeas and, a little later, roses and lilies, and after a while living walls of wisteria and ivy bloom here. nine0013 From the outside, the mansion in the center of New York looks like a real Provencal villa in the middle of a big city, but inside there is a worthy collection of masterpieces of the first magnitude.

Cruel streets: is it possible to live in New York without fear
A resident of New York’s Chinatown district, 35-year-old Christina Yuna Lee late in the evening 19February I was returning home from a party. Following the creative producer of the music network platform Splice, 25-year-old Assamad Nash, a black unemployed homeless man, entered the entrance. He broke into the girl’s apartment and stabbed her about forty times in the bathroom.
A few days earlier, police had arrested Nash for disorderly conduct in attempting to break into subway ticket machines and then escape. But the judge did not set bail – Nash was released under supervision. Due to overcrowding in prisons, petty crimes, including petty thefts, often do not lead to criminal charges, according to New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg. In his opinion, this will allow focusing efforts on serious crimes. nine0007

Assamad Nash did not have time to escape: the neighbors called the police to the screams. But it was not possible to save Christina. The detainee was charged the next day with murder and “sexually motivated” robbery. The suspect claims to be innocent.
The murder shocked New York and especially the people from Asian countries living in it, who make up about 1 million people (10% of the inhabitants of the metropolis), especially since it was not the first. On January 15, 61-year-old homeless Simon Marshal pushed 40-year-old Michelle Goh under a subway train at the Times Square station as she was returning from work. The marshal fled the scene of the crime, but later surrendered to the police with the words that he is God. The man had previously been treated in psychiatric clinics several times, including in places of detention. nine0007
“There are no more safe places” is one of the most popular comments on social networks about what happened. Moreover, Chinatown is a quite prosperous area in the south of Manhattan, where a low crime rate has traditionally been noted. It is only 10-15 minutes walk from Wall Street.
Who is to blame and what to do
The murders of Yuna Lee and Michelle Guo are far from the only resonant crimes that have occurred in the metropolis in recent months. So, on January 21, three police officers in Harlem got into a shootout with a man who threatened his own mother. As a result, two law enforcement officers were mortally wounded, and the criminal himself died. On January 14, a robber shot and killed 19-year-old cashier at Burger King. Although, as evidenced by the surveillance cameras, she complied with all his requirements and did not resist. I think focusing specifically on the killings of Asians detracts from the big picture – crime is increasing in general in New York.

According to official statistics from the New York Police Department, the total number of crimes in January 2022 increased by 38.5% compared to the same month 2021. The number of robberies increased by 33.1% (from 940 to 1,251 cases), cases of theft increased by 58.1% (from 2,559 to 4,047 cases), the number of shootings increased by 31.6% (from 76 to 100). Only the number of murders decreased – by 15.2% (from 33 to 28 cases).
There were many commentators on the crime wave. The new mayor of New York, Eric Adams, demands to strengthen the fight against crime, primarily by increasing the number of patrols in the subway. Opponents of these measures blame the fact that the Times Square station, where the incident with Michelle Goh took place, is already heavily patrolled than any other in New York, but this did not prevent Simon Marshal from acting. Republicans are in favor of ending the practice, when judges release criminals even without bail, and almost all violations that do not harm the health of others fall into the number of frivolous crimes. Democrats in response remind that prisons and psychiatric hospitals are overcrowded and money must be allocated for new ones. As an option, they propose to use funds intended to finance the police, explaining that if mentally ill people are treated, then fewer patrols will be required. Supporters of tough measures are demanding the return to the police of the right to conduct searches of suspicious persons on the streets, which they lost in 2013. And their opponents insist that this will lead to unreasonable searches of black people and will only increase social tension. nine0007
With all of this, Democrats are constantly talking about the fault of former US President Donald Trump, who insists that China is to blame for the emergence of COVID-19, which allegedly caused an outbreak of hatred towards Asians. The prosecutor’s office, however, is in no hurry to initiate cases of hate crimes against a social group, which, meanwhile, may be an indicator of another problem in American society – the desire to recognize the presence of racial motives only in cases when it comes to the oppression of black people (a recent striking example is Whoopi Goldberg’s assertion that the Holocaust is “not a story about race”). nine0007

“Crocodiles from Wall Street”: did an immigrant from the Russian Federation and his rapper wife launder crypto billions positions. It is difficult to say how successful it will be: reforms require money, and crime scares away profitable tourists. A vicious circle is formed.
Blaming and reform plans can go on and on, but for now the fact is that many New Yorkers – especially women – feel fear. nine0007
“Became afraid to go out at night”
The security problem didn’t start yesterday, say New Yorkers, though recent killings of Asian girls have heightened the sense of insecurity and insecurity. “For several years now I have not gone out to the store in the evenings,” says Liya Shcherbakova, a resident of Queens, who works in Manhattan, not far from Chinatown. “I was not afraid before, but now I think it’s better not to risk it. There have been so many such cases.”
Particular dissatisfaction of a woman who moved to New York from Russia at the age of 1990s, causes an atmosphere of impunity. “Next to us was a pharmacy, good, big. They just went into it and took what they wanted. The police didn’t even detain them – it doesn’t make sense, the judge will let them go anyway. As a result, the pharmacy closed. And if everyone closes like that, what will they live on town?”
Ekaterina, who moved to New York in the mid-2000s, also notes the deterioration of the city’s security situation in recent years.

FAQs
AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED
We’re so proud!
Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.
SCHOOL-READY
What Learning Looks Like
Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.
Lacey KinderCare Programs
Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)
Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.
Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)
Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.
Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)
This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.
Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)
This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!
Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)
When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.
Transitional Kindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)
If your child finished pre-K but missed the kindergarten cutoff date, transitional
kindergarten is a great stepping stone to big-kid school. Our project-based
learning model emphasizes critical thinking, communication, and creativity.
Kids take lead roles on projects and complete them in small groups.
Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program
Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)
In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!
Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)
KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.
Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)
Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it. )
Spanish
Spanish Adventures provides young learners with a foundation for later success with
the Spanish language. Music, games, children’s Spanish literature, and other tools give
children multiple opportunities to hear, practice, and see Spanish language to develop
vocabulary and conversation skills. Curriculum includes lessons on greetings, numbers,
colors, animals, family, body parts, and pets, as well as how to engage conversationally
during common scenarios at home, a restaurant, or at the zoo.
STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)
You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
amazing things!
Our Teachers
We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.
Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!
A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH
An Artist’s Heart
“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.
We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.
Family Stories
Don’t take our word for it. Hear what our families have to say about our amazing center!
As a mother, I knew choosing a preschool program would be one of the most important decisions I would need to make. Like most parents, I began weighing the pros and cons of an in-home preschool and childcare to those of a larger center. Although, I liked the idea of a smaller environment, I felt a larger center was a safer more dependable option.
I stopped by KinderCare after work one afternoon to take a tour of the facility and to get pricing information. The front door was locked and I was greeted by the Center Director. I felt safe knowing not just anyone was free to come inside. Although, my son Tyson was not with me, the Center Director asked his name and frequently referenced him throughout the tour. The classrooms were busy but structured and the teachers were engaged.
We have now been enrolled 6 months. I love dropping my son off each day knowing he is safe, he is learning and he is happy. Thank you for all you do.

Everybody’s schedule is different. We’re happy to offer quality, affordable part-time and full-time childcare. Drop-in care may also be available. Reach out to your Center Director to learn more.
How does naptime work at Lacey KinderCare?
Our teachers meet every child’s needs during naptime. Our teachers know how to get babies to nap. In fact, they are pros at getting children of any age to nap. Visit our article on “10 Ways We Help Kids Get a Great Daycare Nap” to learn more.
Do you support alternative diets?
We strive to be as inclusive as possible. To that point, we provide a vegetarian option at mealtime, take care to not serve common allergens and can adapt menus based on your child’s food sensitivities. If your child has additional needs, we’ll work with you to figure out a plan.
Are meals included in tuition? Can I choose to send my child with lunch?
We provide nutritious meals and snacks developed by a registered dietician to meet the needs of rapidly growing bodies and minds. If your child has special dietary requirements and you would prefer to bring in their lunch, please make arrangements with the center director.
Does my child need to be potty-trained?
Every child begins toilet learning at a different age. Until your child shows an interest in toilet learning, we’ll provide diaper changes on an as-needed basis. When your child shows an interest, we’ll discuss how to work together to encourage toilet learning.

My daughter had been going to another child care facility in the area since I was able to return to work from maternity leave. After five years at that center we were both ready for a change. Enrolling my daughter at Kids Workshop for summer camp and now before/after school care was hands down the absolute best decision I could have made. Ms. Seale and her team are loving, welcoming, and make each day fun for the kids! I recently had to have surgery that required me to arrive to the hospital by 5:30am during the week. Being a single mom, I typically can always work out the logistics with how I will get my daughter from here to there but with this dilemma I was stuck! I expressed my concerns to Ms Seale and she offered to open the center just for my daughter one hour early (they typically open each day at 6am). I was floored! I don’t know of another place that would have done something like this but Ms Seale was happy to help. She even had a plan to let my daughter (5 year old) help her with making kolaches, feed the fish, etc. Overall, I cannot offer enough praise to Kids Workshop. My daughter used to dread going to her previous daycare but now she’s excited to go each day. I highly recommend Kids Workshop to anyone in the area. Your kiddos will thank you and you can go to work knowing that they are in great hands.

This place is great, my 5 year old is currentding Kids Workshop and absolutely loves it. It’s a got a great “home” feel to it, and has a wonderful, caring staff. This is the only daycare my son has ever been to where he actually looks forward going to.

Pediatrician, Ph.D.
Pediatrician, Ph.D. Julia Klimova
Complaints about a runny nose, cough, sore throat are among the most popular at a pediatrician’s appointment. It would seem that this is just a common cold, but it is worth considering how many unpleasant minutes, sleepless nights, worries, time and money spent on medical examinations and medications are associated with it. The child cannot attend educational institutions, falls behind the educational program, does not take part in competitions and performances. Parents do not get enough sleep, get an additional load and either cannot go to work because of the need to care for the sick, or leave in alarm, and, in the end, also become ill, having become infected from the child.
Questions about what can be done to prevent infection with respiratory viral infections, how to speed up recovery, which drugs are most effective in treating ARVI in children, are constantly heard in the pediatrician’s office, on parent forums and in chats. Parents buy special devices for air purification and disinfection, purchase tons of fashionable medicines for the prevention of SARS, examine blood for immune status, or immediately go to an immunologist. But the situation is not improving. What’s the matter? Let’s figure out what’s going on and how to help your child get sick less often.
Causes
The first thing that comes to the mind of parents when they notice the symptoms of SARS in a child is hypothermia. Situations begin to emerge in memory when a child ran barefoot on a cold floor, left the bathroom undressed, did not put on a hat or scarf on the street, sat at an open window or drank a drink that was too cold. Although the infectious nature of the disease has long been studied and known, many people are still convinced that the main cause of these diseases is hypothermia. Indeed, this statement has the right to life, especially when there is a combination of infection and hypothermia, or we are dealing with an infection “dormant” in the body. In this case hypothermia is the so-called stress factor, “predisposing” to the fact that a person still gets sick.
However, it is impossible to reduce all the causes of SARS only to infections and hypothermia. There are other important factors as well. One of them is excessively dry air , that is, a lack of moisture, when the nasal mucosa dry up and can no longer provide reliable protection for a person. Unfortunately, the practice of using household humidifiers is not very popular due to the inconvenience of cleaning them and the fears associated with the possibility of spraying pathogens. In the cold season, the moisture content in the air remains low, the situation is aggravated by the operation of heating systems.
Another negative factor is the stress that children have to endure when adapting to a new team or teacher after moving to a new place of residence or if relationships in the team are not going very smoothly. In children, this adaptation can take about six months.
Doctors often pay attention to compliance with the daily routine . A full-fledged night, and for preschoolers and daytime rest, sleep without awakenings, walking, nightmares, with a fairly quick falling asleep and easy awakening is the key to health. It is important to avoid going to bed late.
The next reason for infection with ARVI is insufficient hygiene in children. Children often change toys, put them in their mouths, touch their faces and eyes with unwashed hands, do not wash their hands after returning from a walk or going to the toilet, before eating. In addition, children like to share food, take a bite from the same pie or apple, and thus become infected.
This is what concerns the external causes of the disease. There are other, internal factors due to which ARVI can literally “stick” to the child. These situations include the presence of allergic diseases occurring with the involvement of the mucous membranes. As a result, the mucous membranes can no longer effectively defend themselves against the invasion of foreign agents. Susceptibility to SARS is increasing. Other circumstances arise if a child has hypertrophy of the adenoids . Here, a kind of vicious circle is obtained, when hypertrophy is supported by frequent respiratory diseases and vice versa, various pathological agents freely multiply in the overgrown adenoid tissue, and sometimes for a long time.
Thyroid disorders are sometimes reflected in increased susceptibility to infections.
It has now become especially popular to determine the level of various vitamins and trace elements and correct deviations. The experience of such studies shows that the most common changes are in the level of vitamin D3 and indicators characterizing iron saturation. Vitamin D3 deficiency and iron deficiency are risk factors for SARS.
Last but not least, think about the disturbances in the immune response that cause the child to get sick so often. However, such children get sick for a long time, severely, with complications. Almost every case of the disease requires the appointment of antibacterial drugs, and often inpatient treatment. Such situations are unlikely to go unnoticed by a pediatrician observing a child. Immunologists have to be involved to correct the condition.
Symptoms
Manifestations of the disease in children are quite different in severity. They can range from mild, when manifestations are limited to sneezing, runny nose, slight cough, weakness, loss of appetite, and body temperature remains normal, to moderate and even severe. In the case of a moderate course of infection, in addition to the symptoms described above, fever, more pronounced catarrhal phenomena (runny nose, cough), a sharp decrease in appetite, severe weakness, headache, muscle and joint pain can be recorded. A serious condition requires serious medical attention and manifests itself in the form of a complete refusal to eat, drink, severe weakness, severe lethargy, along with the already mentioned manifestations. There may be respiratory failure, shortness of breath, chest pain. Moderate and severe conditions usually require hospital treatment.
Some infections have bright, recognizable features. So, adenovirus infection is often manifested by conjunctivitis, swollen lymph nodes, and abundant mucous discharge from the nose. Hoarseness of voice or even the development of croup (a condition in which the airways narrow due to swelling of the mucosa) are features of parainfluenza. Influenza occurs with severe headache, muscle, joint pain, high fever and at first mild runny nose and cough.
Diagnosis
If a child falls ill, it is important to understand what pathogen caused the disease in order to correctly prescribe treatment, as well as to predict possible complications. The fact is that, for example, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in children under one year old can occur with serious respiratory disorders, which requires doctors to be vigilant. And for influenza, there is an effective antiviral therapy, which must be prescribed as early as possible from the onset of the disease. Therefore, we try to carry out the necessary diagnostics at the first contact. For this, express tests are used to determine the influenza virus and RSV infection. In addition, it is possible to diagnose using PCR and many other pathogens of SARS. It is also possible to quickly diagnose a streptococcal infection, which can “masquerade” as SARS, proceeding with fever, sore throat, and sometimes nasal congestion.
Why is this important?
If the child is sick with SARS, specific therapy is not required, the doctor will give recommendations to alleviate the symptoms of the disease.
If a child has influenza, it is important to establish a diagnosis and start specific therapy as soon as possible.
If it is a streptococcal infection, the child is treated with antibiotics. This infection can lead to severe complications from the heart, kidneys, and joints.
RS virus is the main cause of lower respiratory tract infections, the most common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in children under 1 year of age, and one of the most common causes of respiratory disorders leading to hospitalization.
Express test – it’s not painful, not scary, and most importantly, we get the result within 5-10 minutes. You do not need to go to the laboratory, donate blood from a vein or a smear and wait for the results for several days. Our doctors perform express tests both at the clinic and at home.
In addition to studies aimed at diagnosing the pathogen, blood tests are carried out to decide on the need to start antibiotic therapy in case of complications of a similar plan: a clinical blood test with a leukocyte formula, determination of the level of c-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate. If necessary, the examination can be supplemented by an x-ray of the chest and paranasal sinuses.
Treatment
Treatment of acute respiratory viral infections is carried out under the supervision of a physician and is predominantly symptomatic. Home mode is recommended, and it is not at all necessary to force the child to be in bed. The activity of the child should correspond to his well-being. In good general condition, short hygienic water procedures are not contraindicated. And with a mild course of the disease, you can even go for a walk. Of course, it is wiser to exclude contact with other children in order to prevent further spread of the disease. Special dietary recommendations are not required. Interestingly, different countries have different approaches to the treatment of SARS in terms of food temperature. So, in some countries, for sore throats, both warm, hot, and vice versa, cold drinks are officially recommended.
In the treatment of colds, it is especially important to observe the drinking regimen. The moisture of the child’s body is spent on the production of mucus during a runny nose and cough, and is lost during shortness of breath and fever. In order for the mucus to come off easier, the temperature drops faster, and the general intoxication decreases, sufficient drinking is necessary. For this, both ordinary water and other favorite drinks of the child are suitable. The separation of mucus from the nose can facilitate the irrigation of the mucosa with saline solutions. With severe nasal congestion, vasoconstrictors are connected, which can be used very carefully, strictly according to the instructions, due to the high risk of overdose and other side effects. Cough suppressants that were so popular in the past are now increasingly removed from everyday prescriptions. Their role is highly controversial. Therefore, we try to avoid their use. Instead, we prefer simple, “folk” methods: warm drinking (water, tea, compote, broth), sucking honey (allowed for children over 1 year old who have no risk of allergic reactions), sucking various lollipops (be careful, because of the risk inhalation of a lollipop during a fit of coughing, from 6 years of age). For sore throats, various sprays and preparations for resorption are used. You should pay attention to the age limit for their use. Etiotropic therapy, that is, therapy aimed at eliminating the causative agent of ARVI, has been proven for daily practice at the international level only for the treatment of influenza.
Prophylaxis
How can you still avoid SARS or at least reduce the incidence of diseases? To ensure that hypothermia does not affect the health of the child, reasonable hardening can help. In addition, it is necessary to ensure that the child has sufficient fluid intake . It is important to prevent heat in the house , keep the temperature at 19-21 degrees Celsius, ventilate in a timely manner and maintain an optimal level of humidity (about 50%).
Follow a strict daily regimen , avoid going to bed late. Teach your child to wash their hands when they return home, before meals and after going to the toilet, and to change into home clothes when they return home. Tell us why it is important not to touch your face, not to put your fingers in your mouth, nose and eyes and why you should not bite into a pie that a friend has already taken a bite.
Worth checking if the child has adenoid enlargement . This can be done at an appointment with an ENT doctor, who can conduct an endoscopic examination, during which you can see adenoids on the monitor with your own eyes. If, due to the age or attitude of the child to the endoscopic procedure, it is impossible, x-ray of the nasopharynx will come to the rescue.
Specify whether an allergic process predisposing to frequent SARS . A pediatrician will help answer this question, who will conduct the appropriate primary diagnosis. If an allergy is detected, an allergist-immunologist will help to solve the problem.
Work with your pediatrician to test vitamin D levels, iron values, thyroid function . If necessary, the pediatrician will adjust the diet and prescribe the necessary drugs.
I would like to warn against excessive enthusiasm for drugs and herbal preparations. Despite being popular with consumers, echinacea and garlic have not been proven effective in preventing colds in children. Currently, there is still not enough data confirming the effectiveness of homeopathic medicines and probiotics in the prevention of SARS in childhood.
Great hopes in the treatment and prevention were placed on the use of high doses of vitamins D and C. It is now known that the additional intake of these vitamins does not affect the incidence of respiratory infections and the severity of their symptoms. However, vitamin C can slightly (only 14%) shorten their duration.
Scientists have been able to confirm that the additional intake of a preparation containing trace element zinc for more than 5 consecutive months reduces the duration and severity of symptoms of respiratory infections. In addition, the mineral can reduce the number of episodes of colds. However, significant disadvantages in its use, along with the length of the course, are the unpleasant taste and nausea, which is often noted when taking it.
Vaccination against respiratory infections is of great importance. Every year in the autumn months, immunization against seasonal influenza is carried out.

An Anglo-American school for the children of diplomats was closed in St.
Petersburg – RBC
The official reason for the closure of the educational institution was the expiration of the contract for the lease of the building. The American Chamber of Commerce in Russia called the incident a blow to the attractiveness of St. Petersburg for investors

The private Anglo-American School of St.Petersburg, AASSP, which taught children of employees of a number of diplomatic missions and international business organizations, has stopped working in St. Petersburg. The school building in Tatarsky Lane was sealed by employees of the State Unitary Enterprise Inpredservis (engaged in servicing foreign missions in St. Petersburg), the city government information portal Spbdnevnik.ru reports.
The AASSP website says that earlier the Russian government gave the school until mid-2019 to complete the reorganization and re-documentation process. However, on September 20, AASSP learned that the Russian authorities had refused to renew the lease on the building occupied by the school, which was created in 1975, and which expires on September 27, 2018.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham) called the closure of a school in the midst of the school year, where 140 children of diplomats and foreign employees of various business organizations studied, “a blow to the international business community and to the attractiveness of St. Petersburg for foreign investment “. The AmCham report emphasizes that the lease agreement for the school building was not extended at the request of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“Classes are closed, the school must vacate the premises within a few days. The American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, with the help of the government of St. Petersburg, is working to resume classes at school,” AmCham said in a statement.
Consul General of Israel in St. Petersburg Olga Slov admitted that the closure of the school where her children also studied came as a surprise to her.
“We are shocked, we don’t know what to do. Children sit at home, the educational process is disrupted. My daughter is in the 11th grade, she should start taking exams this year, and we are very worried, ”Slov told Spbdnevnik.ru.
According to the Israeli consul general, the presence in St. Petersburg of a school where children who do not speak Russian can study has become a decisive factor for many foreigners when making a decision to move.
Later on Friday, the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry told RBC that they had no information about the closure of the school.
“Our American partners submitted that this school exists at the US Consulate General in St. Petersburg. However, it was not located in the premises of the consular mission, but completely separately, ”the department noted, adding that the school was located“ without the coordination required in such cases with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Her legal position was, to put it mildly, very precarious,” the department added.
The department also noted that the Russian side offered the Americans several times to regulate the status of the school, but this did not bring any result until the end of the school lease period.
“In response to the closure by the US authorities of the Russian Consulates General in San Francisco and Seattle, on March 29, 2018, we were forced to withdraw consent to the operation of the US consular office in St. Petersburg,” the diplomatic department explained.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that there would be no problems for the work of the school if it had the appropriate license issued by the Russian educational authorities.
RBC sent a request to the press service of the St. Petersburg Education Committee.
In the spring of 2018, the Russian Foreign Ministry decided to close the US Consulate General in St. Petersburg in response to the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Seattle. On April 1, American diplomats left the consulate building, and on August 1, the British Consulate General was officially closed in St. Petersburg.

Tasks and responsibilities of a Management Consultant in detail
What is the essence of the profession of a Management Consultant?
Management consultants, as external service providers, analyze processes and structures in companies, for example, to improve profitability or to ensure and expand the economic success of a company.
Preparing solutions
Is the development of a new line of business profitable for the company? Is it possible to make processes within the company more efficient? What qualification measures can be useful for employee development? Can new IT systems reduce production time? Management consultants are familiar with the relevant sectors, business analysis, mechanisms and economic problems. They advise and support the company’s management in their efforts to increase efficiency and profitability and thus strengthen and expand the company. To do this, they evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the measures and define decision criteria: how can operational restructuring be designed to be “decision neutral” and socially acceptable? How can insolvent companies escape bankruptcy? Based on the analysis, consultants prepare business solutions. nine0010
Advise and supervise the company’s activities
Management consultants are primarily engaged in strategic, organizational and process consulting, as well as consulting on personnel management and information technology. For example, they develop market and marketing strategies for companies, operational and production optimization, recruitment strategies or staff development plans or measures to increase sales. In addition to growth opportunities, companies are mainly motivated to increase efficiency and therefore reduce costs. Management consultants analyze existing internal and inter-firm procedures and processes, formulate goals and draft decisions that serve as recommendations for management. For example, to determine whether to take over a competitor, management consultants study the current state and calculate costs and prices, for example, for investments and acquisitions. They also conduct profitability and weakness analysis to identify possible internal weaknesses and achieve internal optimization. For example, they study the relationship between individual departments or check whether optimization is still possible in the production area. They translate their results into a concept and present it to the company’s management. If the task of management consultants also consists of implementation or training, they constantly check the new or changed processes and the economic success of the measures introduced during the implementation. nine0010
Other activities of management consultants
Management consultants have many uses. In addition to the “classic” areas of management consulting, IT consulting and HR consulting, they are engaged in outplacement, interim management or financial consulting – always with the aim of contributing to the development of the company.

Capture a tiny snapshot of your kids’ interests at this moment in time with these 20 simple questions—and make it an annual tradition!
Avery and Anna answer another round of questions from Mom. Photo: Tracy Chappell
I came upon this fun questionnaire a few years ago and thought it was a cute way of capturing a little snapshot of what your kids are like at one moment in time. The woman who told me about it said the idea was to ask your kids these questions at their birthdays each year, and then put together a book so they’d have a collection of their favourite things over the years. I discovered it in the fall, right around Avery’s birthday, so I just do it with both of them at this time of year. And, of course, I then share it with you. Here’s what my kids love right now:
Anna: age eight-and-a-half Avery: age six
1. What is your favourite colour: Anna: Green Avery: Pink and purple
2. What is your favourite toy? Anna: Lego Avery: Princesses

7. What is your favourite game? Anna: War (the card game) Avery: Guess Who?
8. What is your favourite snack? Anna: Candy! Avery: Goldfish crackers

10. What is your favourite song? Anna: “Red” by Taylor Swift Avery: “Forever Friends” (I have no idea what this is)
11. What is your favourite book? Anna:Magic Tree House books (I am dying to start the Harry Potter series with Anna but she’s reluctant, thinking it’s too scary.) Avery:Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew series (This is the first time I’ve managed to get Avery interested in chapter books, so I’m happy about that.)

Anna created this name for them when she was little, and she uses them as a pillow. And a note: Anna has slept with a huge stuffed tiger for years, saying it kept her safe at night, but she just relegated him to the end of the bed last week. Sniff sniff.) Avery: Beanie Boos, and her blue mee-mee

57 Open-Ended Questions to Ask Teen Boys & Girls
By: Virginia
| Jan 13, 2021 8:44 AM
Let’s face it: it’s time to revamp conversations with kids. Whether it’s in the car, between Zoom meetings, or around the dinner table, having fun, interesting questions at the ready is the ultimate cure to shrugs or monosyllabic responses.
It’s also an antidote for a unique dilemma posed by unprecedented hours at home.
On one hand, more time with family at home has been a silver lining of these challenging times. Working and learning from home has (literally) brought thousands of families closer, and the absence of typical excursions has created more opportunities to interact with and entertain one another at home.
But for many, it’s been a mixed blessing.
Time together was once a much scarcer commodity, making family game nights or no-cell phone dinners all the more special. Now it’s here in abundance in many households, but with some tricky strings attached.
If every night is basically family game night, it becomes somewhat less precious, right? What is there left to talk about when your family has had, well, each other to talk to in person for months on end?
We’re asking ourselves what to do with the sheer amount of time available to us now, as it has been for almost a year. And as any parent knows, there’s a difference between time technically spent in the same room and quality time spent connecting with kids.
The key to kickstarting quality time? Asking the right questions.
Open-ended questions to ask teens & kids
“How”, “why,” and opinion-based questions are discussion gold. Yes/no questions, or overly-specific questions that require a lot of knowledge for lift off can prove much less fruitful.
Trust me on this, it was once my job to ask questions that actually get kids talking and thinking.
Great conversations with kids and teens are often grounded in their personal experiences, likes and dislikes, or opinions. Goodness knows those are not hard to come by with teens especially! With this foundation, kids can jump in with the confidence that their perspective is valuable and without the fear of “getting it wrong” or feeling intimidated.
This curated list of 57 questions to ask kids and teens fits the bill to a T!
We’ve broken them down into a range of categories, and with 57 questions to choose from, we guarantee to get the whole family talking! These are fun questions to ask kids and spark a dinner table discussion that everyone can enjoy and potentially lead to still more.
Some questions are better suited for younger kids and others are great for engaging teens. You know your child better than anyone, so use this list as a starting point and hand-pick a few that will suit their interests and personality.

10 questions to ask the interviewer – Work.ua
Interview

Tips for Job Seekers
Interview
For many applicants, the interview is like an inquisition.
As a rule, this happens because everyone is used to answering questions, but not asking counter ones.
During the interview, any applicant has a chance to determine if the job is suitable for him personally and to impress the interviewer. Work.ua has already raised the topic of what to ask the interviewer, now we will consider this in more detail.
Be sure to take the opportunity to ask questions of the interviewer. This will allow you to learn more about the company and show your interest.
HR experts identify five main types of questions that will show you in a good light and allow you to take control of the interview.
Identify the problem areas of the company
“What is the main problem that the company has to face and can I take part in solving it?”
“If I started work tomorrow, what would be my top priority?”
Determine in which direction the company is moving
“What are the prospects for the department/company in the next 5 years?”
“What are the department/company’s long-term and short-term plans?”
Find out if a team is right for you
“How would you describe the corporate culture of your company?”
“What tangible and intangible virtues would you single out in an organization?”
Show that you are genuinely interested
“What additional information related to my position could you provide?”
“What are the next steps in the selection for the position?”
Ask follow-up questions
“Can you tell me more about . ..?”
“Could you give me some examples…?”
By clarifying or asking for examples, you prove to the interviewer that you care about the development and improvement of the company. You can also use a notebook during the interview to write down key words and phrases, but don’t get too carried away writing down the interviewer’s every word.
But of course it all depends on the situation. If the interviewer reads the questions from a piece of paper, then it is better not to interrupt him and wait for the classic “Do you have questions?”. If communication takes place in a more relaxed atmosphere, then asking your questions will be very helpful.

At the first meeting, you want to learn as much as possible about a person. Hobbies, hobbies, favorite films, preferences in girls – all information seems to be very important and necessary. Often in the fog of falling in love, we miss whether a person as a person is right for us, whether life goals and priorities coincide.
We’ve put together 10 questions to spice up any first date and get to know the person in front of you a little better 💕

1. Is there anyone who might be upset by this date?
The first thing to find out is if your new lover has a girlfriend, wife, husband or any person who might be against this date. It’s not about this person’s feelings: dating someone whose heart is not free is a frail business.
2. What makes you special?
The easiest way to make contact is to start a conversation about yourself. Talk about hobbies, interests, hobbies. There is nothing like that? Facts from life and childhood will fit: even a simple story of a scar on a knee can tell a lot about a person.
3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
We fall in love not with the potential, but with the person himself. However, it is important to know how he or she sees the future: with or without children, in another country or in a small homeland. And most importantly – with a dog or with a cat?

4. Cats or dogs?
Remember Phoebe’s cool game from Friends, which helped you figure out what’s on a person’s mind. Coffee or tea? Beach or mountains? Book or movie? You understood the meaning: offer to make a choice according to the formula “either … or” and find out about the person’s preferences.
5. What is your favorite meme?
A sense of humor is perhaps the most important thing in a person. Life is too short to waste it on guys you’re bored with. You can ask about your favorite funny video, tiktok or (God forgive me) anecdote.
6. What annoys you the most?
Something pisses everyone off – it’s better to find out about it on the shore. It’s one thing if the chosen one is annoyed by black-and-white movies and popcorn with caramel. Another, if he does not like screaming children and nursing mothers, and you are planning a huge family.
7. What is your most pleasant childhood memory?
This question can reveal a person from a tender and intimate side. Childhood and family are something that only the closest are told about.

8. What is your favorite place in the world?
Grandma’s house in the countryside? The top of the mountain where he went camping in 7th grade? Own bed? Find out in which location he feels most relaxed and peaceful.

Profession: tutor – how to become one, areas of work
<>
How I became a tutor
I graduated from the linguistic department of the Southern Federal University, where I studied two languages - English and German. We didn’t have any specialization, and after graduating from the university we had to decide which area to go into – translation or teaching.
It so happened that fate directed me to the second path. I started working as a teacher in one of the language schools in Rostov-on-Don. At school, I studied face-to-face with small groups of our students and at the same time began to work as a tutor, that is, individually with students. At first it was full-time tutoring, and then online tutoring. Later, I worked as an English tutor, and for the last six months I have been the curator of tutors at the Foxford online school.
What does the tutor do
The main task of the tutor is to help the student solve the problems that he asked, so the specific actions of the tutor are highly dependent on these tasks. Working with preschoolers is very different from working with schoolchildren or adults; preparing for the Unified State Examination or DWI in a foreign language at Moscow State University is different from mastering fluent conversational speech. The tutor individually plans the lesson, selects materials and resources that correspond to the goals of the student.
As a tutor I have worked with very different students, from 3 year olds to 70 year old men who wanted to learn the language in order to move to Germany. Sailors and pilots approached me with the task of mastering professional vocabulary. And, of course, with each of them I built training in different ways. With the pilots, we dealt with the peculiarities of their work and learned the terms. The work with the kids took place mainly in the form of a game, with the use of cartoons and songs.
Our tutors, for example, most often work with the following queries:
Help with the school program. It happens that the student was sick and missed the topic, then he catches up with the tutor. Sometimes you need help with difficult material.
Preparation for the OGE or EGE.
Olympic training. Many of our students participate in competitions at various levels and turn to tutors because they have outgrown the school curriculum.
Help with homework. This is a new direction that has recently appeared in Foxford, and it is also in demand. If you urgently need to do homework, but you can’t figure it out on your own or with your parents, a tutor will help.
Areas of work
A tutor may be engaged in a particular area of work, or may be a generalist. Specialization can be subject – for example, we have a biology tutor who is very well versed in molecular biology, he is approached by those who need to study this particular topic at a deep level, although, of course, he can also teach general biology.
Another type of specialization is according to the tasks of the student. There are tutors who like to prepare schoolchildren for the USE, they have their own developments, methodological techniques, and their students get very good scores on the USE. There are, on the contrary, tutors who like to work with elementary or middle school students and help them master the school curriculum. We always take into account the preferences of tutors, their specialization, when we hire them at Foxford.
Peculiarities of working as a tutor
Difference from a teacher
A teacher at a school or university usually works with a class or a group of students, a tutor works individually with a student. The teacher is limited by the number of hours and the program, while the tutor has the opportunity to build training in accordance with the needs of the student. The main differences between the work of a tutor and ordinary teaching are precisely in this – there is an opportunity to be more creative and attentive to each student.
Teacher education
This is an important but not mandatory requirement to work as a tutor. We at Foxford have several tutors with incomplete pedagogical education or with a higher specialized education, excellent specialists in their subject. Pedagogical skills, as a rule, are developed in the process of work.
On the other hand, a pedagogical education or basic knowledge of pedagogy will be very useful for a tutor. For example, before starting work at a language school, I attended a course of lectures, where I received basic knowledge about the methods of teaching languages. In addition, our teacher shared his personal experience and his best practices. However, I have already mastered most of the pedagogical techniques in practice.
Ability to work online
The tutor can work both face-to-face and online. In recent years, online work has become very popular and in demand. I have worked with students both in person and online, and I can say that both methods are equally effective. Thanks to modern technologies, the tutor has a lot of different tools to make classes useful and interesting for the student. For example, now there are electronic boards, interactive resources, virtual laboratories.
Online tutoring gives you the opportunity to reach a new level: look for students all over the country or even abroad, develop professionally and earn more regardless of where you live.
What I love most about my job
Seeing its results. It’s great when students start using knowledge and skills, it’s great to see their progress. Teaching languages involves the constant use of the acquired knowledge in practice, so I can see the changes immediately. And I really like it.
Learn new things. The work of a tutor involves immersion in different topics, depending on the profession of the student, his interests, needs. We learn new words and rules using examples from different fields. Thanks to my work, I expanded my horizons, learned a lot of interesting things.
Salary, career and the future of the profession
The salary of a tutor depends on several factors:
The number of hours he devotes to work. There are tutors who do only this, there are those who combine tutoring with teaching at school or university or with work in their main specialty. The more hours devoted to tutoring, the more earnings.
Specialization. Preparing for the exam requires more effort from the tutor than help in the school curriculum, and is paid, respectively, higher.
Knowledge and experience. Certificates of completion of various training courses, the number of students who successfully passed the USE with high scores, extensive work experience – all this increases the cost of his lessons.
Place of residence. In the capitals, a tutor usually earns more, but in small towns, the prices for tutor services are lower. However, if the tutor starts working online, this difference decreases.
Marketing and brand building. If a tutor professionally promotes himself on the Internet, he will earn more.
Tutor has two ways of development. Firstly, a tutor can develop within the profession: master new techniques, expand specialization. Experienced and skilled tutors are in high demand and can charge a high price for their services.
Secondly, a tutor has a career opportunity if he cooperates with an online school. He can become a methodologist and develop teaching materials that will be used by other online school tutors. You can become a course leader or curator of a group of tutors, like me.
I am sure that in the coming years the profession of a tutor will still be in demand. Online education continues to develop and expand: more and more people, both schoolchildren and adults, choose an individual educational trajectory and turn to tutors to gain knowledge in the subject.
What qualities and skills a tutor needs
Knowledge of the subject and the ability to convey it to the student . The main secret of a good teacher is to explain not only what he can and knows, but what the student needs, and explain in exactly the way that the student understands.
Attentiveness and sensitivity to the needs of the student.
Punctuality and responsibility. A tutor works with people, which means that he should value their time and efforts: prepare for the lesson, not be late, not be distracted during the lesson. In online work, this is no less important than during a face-to-face lesson.
Sociability. It is important for the tutor to establish contact with the student so that the training is effective and enjoyable for both parties. You need to be attentive to the student, to what he says about himself, in order to be sensitive to his needs and circumstances.
Flexibility. A tutor often has to vary curricula, assignments depending on the student or the situation.
Curiosity, desire for knowledge. A good tutor is constantly learning: increasing the level of knowledge in his subject, mastering new tools, techniques, online learning technologies.
Alexandra Babykina, Foxford’s tutor curator, talks about her experience and the details of her profession.
Become an English Tutor (with steps) • BUOM
A career in education can be a successful and enjoyable option for people who enjoy working with people and helping them learn. In particular, tutoring can provide the beneficial benefits of an educational career, and perhaps also provide flexibility. Many students need extra help in developing their language skills, which means that working as an English tutor can be a good way to specialize in your educational career. In this article, we explain the role of an English tutor, how to become one, and what you can expect from the salary and job prospects in this role.
Who is an English tutor?
An English tutor is an educational professional who works with students individually or in small groups, usually to support the learning they are doing in a regular English class. English tutors are also sometimes the primary English teachers for students, unless they are attending English classes elsewhere.
Tutors may be hired by an organization that finds tutors and matches them to students, or they may have individual employment contracts with individual students or families. They may work in their country of citizenship, or they may choose to work abroad, or even live in their own country and teach students virtually in other countries.
What does an English tutor do?
An English tutor provides additional support and assistance to students of all ages in learning English. They may meet with students one-on-one or in small groups. Because they work with individuals or small groups, they usually try to offer personalized instruction and tailor content to each student’s needs, often in a way that complements their work in the mainstream English class. They usually evaluate the learning and growth of their students, work with them to set goals for their English skills, plan lessons and conduct instruction, and communicate with their guardians or other responsible parties.
How to become an English tutor
If a job as an English tutor sounds like a good option for you, here are a few steps you can take:
many positions require a bachelor’s degree. If you are in high school, complete your studies by paying attention to subjects that will help you succeed in college and as an English tutor. If you require a high school equivalent document, explore local and online options such as extended coursework and equivalent exams. Be sure to research the colleges and universities you want to attend if you choose this path, and be sure to check out their diplomas or equivalence requirements.
2. Improve your English skills
Be sure to sharpen your English skills during and after the pre-sessions. Try to read different types of writing often and take additional courses if it is useful. If this makes sense in your situation, work with the interviewer or trainer to make sure your language skills are ready for the role of tutor.
3. Continue further education
Many tutors also need a bachelor’s degree, especially if they work with an agency. Consider getting a degree from a college or university that works for you. Be sure to approach research institutes and be mindful of factors such as available majors, tuition fees, and financial aid. You can choose full-time colleges in your area, as well as other places if you can relocate, or even online degree programs if that makes sense. You can discuss your options with a trusted mentor or coach if that would be helpful to you.
4. Obtain all required certifications
Before and during your bachelor’s degree, research mentors’ jobs and note any certifications they may require. If you notice that many English tutor jobs require certain credentials in the place you want to work, consider fulfilling those requirements to improve your resume and candidacy for these positions.
5. Select seat
During your own educational experience, consider where you would like to work. Some tutors help students at all levels of the local school system or at the college level. Others travel abroad to provide English tutoring services to students in other countries. Others are still tutoring online, working with students from all over the world. Explore your location options and think carefully about which one is right for you. Be aware that this plan is subject to change if and when you decide to take a different route, as tutoring can potentially be a flexible career path.
6. Decide to work with an agency or on your own
Explore roles in an agency that brings together tutors with students and consider your own interests in working with individual students and families to decide which employment structure is right for you. Consider factors such as wages and taxes in each role, and consult with a financial professional if this makes sense for your situation. You are also likely to change this decision throughout your career, so you will probably be able to approach this choice with confidence and flexibility.
English Tutoring Skills
To be a successful English tutor, you need to have skills that will help you communicate with students, assess their development, provide materials in English, and engage students in the topics you cover. Here are some specific skills that can help you succeed as an English tutor:
Communication
