Mariam has been an invaluable asset to our family for the past two years. We were so lucky to have found her during the pandemic when our son’s first daycare closed, and honestly it was the best thing thatcould have happened to us. She provides a warm, loving, and supportive environment that our son has thrived in. She has helped us navigate so many milestones (weaning off bottle, crib to toddler bed, potty training, etc) as first time parents. We would have been lost without her. Additionally, I have been so impressed with the preschool curriculum she has provided. At 3 years old our son knows his alphabet, can spell his name, can count to at least 30, and is frequently coming home excited to share the new things he learned that day. Plus the kids create so many fun arts and crafts that they then proudly bring home to display. On top of all of this, our son looks forward to going to “school” everyday (he used to call it his “second home” when younger) where he has so many great friends that he looks forward to seeing. And the icing on the cake is the monthly movie nights that Mariam provides that allows for mom and dad to have an otherwise rare date night. foundation of the YWCAs childcare programming. The pillars are Ys Kids
and Summer Daze.
During the school
year,
Ys Kids
provides care before and after school at
nine Waterloo elementary
schools, plus sites in Cedar Falls and Hudson.
Summer Daze is the all day program held through the summer.
The YWCA childcare
team also works with Tri-County Head Start to create
Wrap-Around Service that offers all-day
care to Head Start participants.
Playdays for
Christmas and Spring Break, conferences, etc. are another service
provided. Advance registration for Playdays is required.
Each
of these childcare programs offers positive adult role models,
educational opportunities and fun for the children. Financial Assistance
is based on
household size and income
and participation by youth with special needs is encouraged.
Y’s Kids
– Before and After School
Y’s Kids before and after
school program is
designed to meet the needs of parents whose schedules do not coincide
with their children’s school day. Although there will be time for
homework and academic assistance, Y’s Kids is a time for the children to
unwind, relax, and be creative, and enjoy the company of friends in a
safe and friendly environment with positive caring adult role models.
Y’s Kids programs are in compliance with the State of Iowa child care
regulations and the State Fire Marshal. Y’s Kids staff are certified in
First Aid, CPR, Universal Precautions and are trained as mandatory
reporters of child abuse. Y’s Kids staff have all successfully completed
a State of Iowa Criminal Record check as well as a national
fingerprinting process.

The YWCA provides before and after school care for
school-age children at Highland, Irving, Kingsley, Kittrell, Lincoln,
Lou Henry, and Lowell Elementary Schools in Waterloo; at Hudson
Elementary; and at Hansen, Lincoln, and North Cedar Elementary Schools
in Cedar Falls. Only after school child care is offered at Cunningham
Elementary in Waterloo.
Preschool
The YWCA provides before-and-after preschool childcare at
the following Waterloo elementary schools: Lowell, Highland, and
Kittrell. Only after preschool childcare is offered at Cunningham
Elementary. Preschool child care is available at the schools Monday –
Thursday. All-day care is available on Fridays at the YWCA from 6:30
a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Registration for All-day Friday programming is
limited to students who are enrolled in a YWCA school-based preschool
before and/or after school child care Mondays – Thursdays.
Child care for preschool students attending Hudson Elementary is
available either before the morning program
or
after the
afternoon program only.
YWCA Playdays
The YWCA is pleased to offer childcare opportunities on
most scheduled days off of school from 6:30am -6:00pm. Any child is
welcome to attend Playdays, you do not need to be enrolled in Y’s Kids
to be able to attend.
Breakfast, lunch and snack provided.
(Children may bring their own if preferred.)
Staff will let you know the swimming days to bring your
own swimsuit and towel.
(The YWCA does not provide swimsuits.)

Summer Daze is for
children ages 4-12 looking for an exciting summer!
The program runs Monday-Friday, 6:30am – 6:00pm. Sign
up for one week or all of them. Dates may change to accommodate snow
days and school availability. Summer Daze programming is offered at two
locations–the YWCA in downtown Waterloo and Kingsley Elementary School in
Waterloo.
Cost: 2023 Prices coming soon!
Save money with a children’s membership! ($20/year for
children ages 13 and under.)
Pay a $10 deposit for each week your child will attend.
Weekly balances are due prior to the week(s) your child will
attend. A one time, non-refundable $20 ($40 family maximum)
activity/supply fee will be collected at the time of registration.

disabilities in our fun summer program.
*YWCA Summer Daze is a State of Iowa licensed child care
program.
Summer Daze is partially funded by Cedar Valley United

Reduced pricing is available for Summer Daze based on
household income and size. To see if you might qualify, you may print

YWCA Childcare Directors for more information.
Alternate Funding Sources
As a licensed child care program, Summer Daze
participates in DHS child care contracts, JPTA, and other alternative
funding sources. However, the YWCA must have written authorization from
the funding source before service may begin. No child receiving DHS
funds can begin the program without notification of approval from the
Department of Human Services. First priority for reserved sports will go
to 4-year-old children enrolled in Head Start preschool programs and
approved for Wrap Around services.
The YWCA is committed to providing high quality, best
practice school age care. YWCA Summer Daze is designed to meet the
specific needs of elementary age students based on National Afterschool
Association Standards for Quality Afterschool programs. All area school
age kids are welcome. If your child has special or individual needs, the
YWCA is prepared to meet them completely and respectfully.

This time I decided to write about a curious anime called Charlotte (“Charlotte”) , which is very easy to miss in a large stream of mediocrity coming out recently.
At a Glance
After a very busy and interesting spring 2015 anime season, my expectations and hopes for a strong summer season were higher than ever. But, to the great disappointment, the hopes were in vain. nine0% percent of what was released in the summer turned out to be pure fan service with no artistic value. Initially, Charlotte did not attract my attention in any way. It is possible that this was due to a simple name that does not say anything about the content hidden behind it. Yes, and a brief description of the anime, which spoke about schoolchildren with superpowers, did not give enthusiasm (we saw this, we were not impressed). However, it was curious that the screenwriter for Charlotte is the same person who wrote the screenplay for Angel Beats – Maeda Jun . Moreover, the anime was produced by the company P . A . Works , who also had a hand in Angel Beats. This fact was enough to overpower myself and try to watch the first series. And, as they say, it started … I definitely advise you to watch 13 episodes without stretching, otherwise the impression of viewing may be incomplete, and you will not be able to feel the whole kaleidoscope of sensations. nine0003
A few words about the plot. The protagonist, Yu Otosaka, discovers a strange ability: for five seconds, he can inhabit any person. Some teenagers between the ages of 12 and 16 develop unusual abilities ranging from invisibility to pyrokinesis. And there is a real hunt for such teenagers. Scientists conduct experiments on them to find out the nature of their extraordinary abilities, and these experiments are far from always humane. Here, for the first time, other main characters of Charlotte appear on the stage – these are Nao Tomori and Jojiro Takajo. They know that Otosaka can inhabit other people’s bodies, and literally blackmail him into cooperating with them. It is they who explain to him that because of his abilities he is in danger, and that he needs to transfer to a special school where students like him study. Otherwise, there is a high probability that Otosaka will be captured and experiments will begin. Charlotte can be easily divided into 2 parts: light (from episodes 1 to 6) and dark (from episodes 7 to 13). If the first part shows a carefree school life with periodic sorties for new students with superpowers, then the second is full of much darker moments. The events at the end of the sixth series radically change the emotional coloring of the anime. I will not say what happened there, as it is better to see everything on your own. In my opinion, the episodes that describe Otosaki’s feelings about what happened are by far the best. The creators of the series managed to convey the inner torment of a person who has lost his purpose in life in the best possible way. And it’s good if such a person has someone nearby who can bring him back to normal. nine0003
The plot is constructed in such a way that as soon as the viewer starts to get bored with the usual course of life – bang, and something abrupt, attracting attention, happens. Quite an effective technique that allows you to keep the viewer in good shape. Let sometimes it looks and unnatural.
Now a little about the ending. It is natural, but somewhat crumpled. In order to keep within the framework of 13 episodes, the creators decided to cram too much into the last two episodes, which, if recounted in detail, would take five. If you really want to keep within the limits, then why not shorten the first part of the anime and not extend the second? Therefore, the ending, although not bad, is somewhat disappointing, and leaves almost no food for thought for the viewer. nine0003

You can’t watch Charlotte and not feel its connection to Angel Beats. The first thing that catches the eye of is the appearance and character of Nao Tomori. It feels like she’s a hybrid between Yuri and Kanade. Just look at this:

But to be fair, Tomori has an interesting personality. It’s hard not to like a character like that.
The second is how much importance is given to the music. In both Angelic Rhythms and Charlotte, the music is just amazing. My Song and Ichiban no takaramono have been on my playlists for a long time, now some songs from Charlotte will be added to them. Maeda Jun loves to emphasize the power of music. Music is the most precious thing Nao Tomori’s brother had. Because of the torture that scientists carried out on him, he became insane. But the song played live in front of him brings him to his senses and he starts to recognize Nao. Music allows you to at least briefly escape from the cruelties of this world. All you have to do is put your headphones in your ears and turn on your favorite song. That is why so much attention is paid to the player that Tomori gives to Otosaka, and why he appears in the opening and ending theme. Maybe it’s just me getting old… For example, the death of Otosaki’s older brother’s friend looks like they’re trying to squeeze tears out of you. Firstly, I personally did not have time to become attached to this character so much as to feel any strong feelings from his death. Secondly, death looks eerily illogical. The fifth is the ending. As I noted earlier, the ending in Charlotte finally and irrevocably closes all questions of the viewer. Whereas in Angel Beats it is open and gives the viewer food for thought. Personally, I prefer the second option. Happy endings are certainly nice, but not always the best option (for example, Your Lie in April ). Generally speaking, the ending is kind, but forced by the time frame of 13 episodes. Perhaps that’s why I was left with the feeling that it could have been done better. But the taste and color …

If we consider Charlotte as an independent work, then I dare to put the following marks:

The Underground Light Rail Station is one of the most interesting locations in Portland’s Western Hills. The station is located in the Robertson Tunnel at a depth of 260 feet (79m). It is the deepest underground station in North America and one of the deepest in the world. Due to the fact that the station lies so deep, at a depth of “16 million years ago”, there is a geological theme in its interior.
In order to get out of the tunnel, you need to use one of the high-speed elevators, which will take you to the surface in 25-28 seconds. While the elevator is moving, you will be informed at what height above sea level you are at the moment.
Completed in 1998, the Robertson Tunnel is 2.9 miles (4.7 km) long and consists of two parallel tunnels. During construction work, one worker died. A plaque commemorating him is on the Sunset platform.
