They are like family and have never worried about my child being there! Class sizes are small enough so it doesn’t feel like a huge place where my child is a number yet is treated like one of their own children or grandchildren. Neat and clean and lots of fun activities for all ages all the time.

History

Cowet County Courthouse

Heart of Newnan Motel, 1960s postcard.

Newnan was established as the county seat of Cowat County (replacing the defunct city of Bullsboro) in 1828 and was named for North Carolina General Daniel Newnan. It quickly became a magnet for lawyers, doctors, other professionals, and merchants. Much of Newnan’s prosperity was due to its thriving cotton industry, which relied on slavery.

Newnan was largely untouched by the Civil War due to its hospital city status (for both Union and Confederate troops), and still has much antebellum architecture as a result. Famed architect Kennon Perry designed many of the 20th-century houses in the city. During the Atlanta campaign, Confederate cavalry defeated Union forces at the nearby Battle of Brown’s Mill.

On April 23, 1899, an infamous lynching took place after an African American named Sam Hawes (born Tom Wilks) was accused of killing his boss, Alfred Cranford. Hawes was kidnapped from police custody, passed through Newnan, tortured, and burned alive north of town by a vigilante mob of approximately 2,000 Cowet County citizens.

Also in Newnan in 1948 was the trial of wealthy landowner John Wallace, the first white man in the South to be sentenced to death on the testimony of two African American field workers who were forced to help burn the body of a murdered white sharecropper. Wilson Turner. These events were depicted in the novel Coweta County Murder . The film version starred Johnny Cash, Andy Griffith and June Carter.

In 1968, Kmart opened a warehouse in Newnan, which gradually turned it into a major distribution center in the area. Around this time, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters attempted to unionize the warehouse, but this attempt was defeated when employees voted 329against 201 for staying out of unions. In 2015, the distribution center closed with the loss of 164 jobs.

In the early hours of March 26, 2021, Newnan was directly impacted by a massive EF4 tornado, causing significant structural damage and one death. The tornado is one of the strongest in the history of Georgia since 1950, it directly affected the historical center of the city.

Arts and Culture

The city is one of the few counties in Georgia with a museum dedicated primarily to African American history. The Cahueta County African American Heritage Museum and Research Center, or Caswell House, opened in July 2003 in a donated country house once owned by Ruby Caswell. The museum is located on Farmer Street in an old, unmarked slave cemetery. He collected hundreds of family genealogical records by interviewing residents and reviewing census records. The museum also houses Coweta’s census numbers from 1870 to 1920 years.

The first black library in the area was the Sarah Fisher Brown Library. Built in the 1950s, the library has since been transformed into a Community Development Action Center.

Farmer Street Cemetery is the largest slave cemetery in the South and possibly the largest intact cemetery in the country. It is within the city limits of Newnan.

Railroads

Until the mid-1950s, Central Georgia had two trains per day in each direction, via Newnan from Atlanta to Columbus, on service Man O’ War . Route Description

SR 34 begins at Alabama State Line, southwest of Waresville, in Heard County, where the roadway continues southwest as Alabama State Route 22 (SR 22). Curving, it heads northeast to the junction with the northern terminus of SR 219. It continues northeast and enters Franklin. Just inside the city limits, it begins a concurrency with SR 100. Shortly before the end of the concurrency, the two highways cross the Chattahoochee River onto the Theodore McCutcheon Sr. Pleasant Bridge. On the east bank of the river, they diverge, with SR 34 continuing northeast and interchanging with US 27/SR 1. The highway passes through part of the Bush Head Shoals State Park. It then passes Lake Turners and Heard Wesley Cemetery before entering Coweta County. The highway passes Josephs Lake and Dent Chapel Cemetery before reaching the Rock Hut Lake area. The Emory Chapel Cemetery is right next to the lake. It then turns east-northeast. Then passes the Mountain Lake. Less than 9At 10 m (3,000 ft) it meets the western terminus of SR 34 Byp. (Newnan Bypass Road). Enter Newnan Highway where it intersects US 27 Alt. /SR 16 (Temple Avenue). Three highways head simultaneously towards the main part of the city. They pass the Temple Avenue health complex. They intersect in the city center with US 29/SR 14 (Jackson Street). All five highways go south. At Posey Place, SR 34 exits the concurrency zone and crosses northbound traffic lanes where it rejoins the northbound concurrency. At Clark Street, SR 34 diverges to the northeast. After a few miles it meets the eastern terminus of SR 34 Byp. (this time known as Millard Farmer Industrial Boulevard. interchange with Interstate 85 (I-85). After that, it leaves Newnan and travels a fairly easterly route. At Thomas Crossroads, it intersects with SR 154 (Sharpsburg – McCollum Road). SR 34 turns east-southeast and reaches its eastern terminus, an intersection with SR 54 west of Peachtree City.0095 [1]

The only part of SR 34 that is part of the National Highway System, a system of routes recognized as most important to the nation’s economy, mobility and defense, runs from central Newnan to its eastern terminus. [2]

    History

SR 34 was formed between October 1929 and June 1930 from the Alabama border west-southwest of Franklin and east-northeast to Newnan. [3] [4] Between November 1946 and February 1948 it was extended east-northeast to SR 54, at its current eastern terminus. [5] [6] From August 1950 to January 1952 the entire track of the SR 34 was paved. [7] [8]

    Special Routes

    Franklin Bypass

State Bypass Route 34 ( SR 34 Byp. ) was bypassed by SR 34, which existed entirely within the city limits of Franklin. In 1949, it was established from US 27 /SR 1 /SR 100 in the southeastern part of the city to SR 34 in the northeastern part. [11] [12] In 1983 this was decommissioned. [9] [10]

The entire route was to Franklin, Heard County.

    Newnan Bypass

State Bypass Route 34 ( SR 34 Byp. ) is 6.0 miles (9.7 km) bypass of SR 34, which is located entirely in central Coweta County. Approximately half of the route passes into the city limits from Newnan. Most Bypass Features Truck Strip for US 27 Alt. /USA 29 /SR 14 /SR 16 / SR 34

This starts at an intersection with SR 34 (Franklin Road) west of Newnan. It heads north, interchanges with Welcome Road, turns east-northeast, and intersects US 27 Alt. /SR 16 (Temple Avenue) northwest of town. It then continues to an intersection with the southern terminus of SR 70 (Roscoe Road), on the northern edge of the city. SR 34 Byp. turns southeast and intersects US 29/SR 14 (Jackson Street). It curves its way through the city until it meets its eastern terminus, the second junction with SR 34 (Bullsboro Drive) on the east side of the city. [13]

The entire length of SR 34 is part of the National Highway System, a system of routes recognized as the most important for the country’s economy, mobility and defense. [16]

In 1984 Newnan’s north bypass was built from US 29/SR 14 north of the city to SR 34 northeast of it. However, it was not numbered. [10] [17] The following year, a western extension of this bypass, designated SR 747, was proposed to have a western terminus at SR 34 west of the city. [10] [18] In 1986 this bypass was proposed as SR 34 Byp. [18] [19] The following year it was re-proposed as SR 747. [19] [20] In 1988 it was built as SR 747 from US 27 Alt./SR 16 to US 29 / SR 14. I do not trust anyone with my daughter more than I trust Jillian. I met her through our daughters who are the same age. We started trading babysitting when they were just 5 months old.
My daughter has been a challenge ever since she was born, and Jillian is so patient and kind with her. She seesher strengths, rather than her challenges, and treats her as if she were her own child.
Additionally, Jillian is a trained teacher. She is fantastic at using conscious discipline techniques with the girls, speaks Spanish with them, sings and plays creatively with them, and involves them in daily activities and decisions, even at a very young age. I learn just from watching her interact with her daughter. Jillian will not just provide excellent care for your child, she will provide a learning environment….

Our family has been lucky enough to work with Carmen since April 2016 when we moved from Norfolk, Virginia with our 8 month old daughter and then again in 2020 when my wife went back to work after having our son. We have felt so fortunate to have someone as attentive, caring, and dependable asCarmen join our family to help us with caring for our kids. We chose to have our kids cared for in her home and they loved it there. Carmen is not only amazing but she has an amazing family as well. She treats us and our kids like family. Our kids love going there and there are many times when pickup time comes and they don’t want to leave. She has taught our kids great manners as well as taught them many educational songs. I would highly, highly recommend her! If we didn’t have to move, we would have loved to have her until our son entered VPK just like we were able to do with our daughter. Any family would be lucky to have her!…

Luz Stella S cared for my twins for four years, from 3 months to the beginning of the pandemic when we moved in with my parents. She is simply superb. Stella managed two babies and little people with love andhumor. Her warmth was obvious not just to me and to my parents, who fell in love with her when they visited, but to the neighbors in my building who would tell me how incredible she was with the boys when they saw her in the hallways or the neighborhood. Stella is also a self-starter who wouldn’t wait for instructions but would look around the house for things to do when she had a moment, leaving my space tidy and well cared for (toddler twins notwithstanding). I would give Stella the highest possible recommendation. She particularly loves caring for babies and preschool kids, with whom she is gifted. Her primary language is Spanish (my kids became bilingual!) but she can also communicate in English, with occasional support.
I am jealous of whomever gets to hire Stella – she is one special lady….

My son is thriving!

After a year of quarantine, I knew my son needed socialization and interactions that I wasn’t able to give him while working from home. My kiddo entered into the toddler room and immediately began to thrive. He started recognizing routines and exploring more. Being around all the kids and great teachers exposed him to so much more than I could. He loves his teachers and runs to give them hugs when we arrive. Our family is so happy to be in the Casa de Corazón family!

Over the years I have continued to be blown away not only by the loving care he receives from his teachers and the staff, but also the level of education and exposure to diverse materials. It has been such a joy watching my son grow, especially hearing him speaking Spanish fluently and seamlessly transitioning between English and Spanish. This is something I feel will be so important for his future and to build a solid foundation of learning. Casa also does such a wonderful job making learning fun through play, art projects, activities, imagination, stories and hands on experiences.

Spanish Kindergarten.. Torrevieja

Next year, going to the Spanish mainland with Martik for the summer, I was already consciously looking for a kindergarten for him.

It’s easy to do this by typing in the Internet the desired city and the search object – escuela infantil. Of course, the Internet does not reflect the entire range of possible offers: not everyone has their own websites and other means of identification. You can add to this list already on the spot. But it was important for me to choose a location in the immediate vicinity of the garden. Therefore, I chose the garden and the apartments in pairs so that the garden could be reached at a walking pace of 5 minutes.

Our kindergarten in the provincial and stupid Torrevieja was located on the street next to the waterfront.

Typically, these institutions accept children from 8 months to 3 years. Yes, you heard right: from 8 months. And I personally observed how tiny babies lie in a separate pen all day in carrying chairs. Of course, during the day they are picked up, fed, played, but for me, this, of course, is an extreme option.

Pamela Druckerman’s book “French children don’t spit food” is written in detail and with humor about the European system of kindergartens. In principle, a lot can be transferred to Spain, but, in my opinion, parental personal boundaries are still more blurred here than in France. It seemed to me that the Spaniards, in principle, love to spend time with their children, and they are not bothered by screams, squeaks, squeals, which are full of all restaurants until midnight. By the way, somewhere on the net I recently came across a funny post about Czech dads. So, in Spain, dads also enjoy walking with their children and often on the playground you can see a baby with a caring dad. The mothers flitting next to me most often turned out to be Russians or from other countries of the post-Soviet world.

Having discovered our kindergarten first on the Internet, then here on FB, I contacted its director back in Moscow, found out the conditions and payment, and upon arrival I was fully armed. The only thing we had to do was to buy the necessary uniform in a special atelier. The uniform of the garden consisted of a T-shirt and shorts, apparently the same uniform children wear in the windy winter months without heating. It was necessary to come to the garden by 9 am and pick up the child no later than 1 pm. A couple of times I was 5 minutes late and got a reprimand. Food was also to be carried in the box. Sadik rented a room in an ordinary 5-storey building. The room was divided into several play and work areas. There was a large dining room and a bedroom. Different activities and games were offered every day, besides, birthdays were celebrated there quite cheerfully. According to my calculations, there were about 25 children aged 1 to 3 in the garden every day. Very small ones lay separately. When I first brought Martik, the director was very surprised at his height (he was 2.7 at the time), because his peers were a cut shorter).

Almost every day, photos and videos of hotel activities and games were posted to the general FB group for parents, where everyone could find their child. I think that for teachers who study the language with kids, such an experience would be especially useful, since, in this case, the children did not master a foreign language, but their own, and this process is somewhat specific. From my personal experience, I know how difficult it is to find a good teacher for a child of this age, because not everyone who knows the language can teach it to this age category.

Leska was very lucky in this regard, because in the era of our life in St. Petersburg, we found a unique Spanish teacher for her, not only an excellent specialist in love with language and culture, but also an amazing person who became a friend of our whole cheerful family and which I always recommend with great pleasure to my friends.

Now I want to point out a particularly sensitive subject. Yes, the Spaniards are not particularly ceremonious with sick children. Snotty, coughing children are the norm for kindergarten. Apparently, in this way the necessary immunity is produced. At first, I looked at it rather calmly, but it turned out that literally a week later Martik was already walking with deep snot, which even the presence of the sea and the sun could not stop (after sleep we floundered in the sea until 8 pm), and a month later he fell down with a sore throat and we lived through a difficult temperature week together. I think that in the perspective of raising immunity, such a neighborhood is a useful thing, but at a particular moment a child who falls ill on vacation is not always a pleasant thing for everyone. In general, I evaluate my son’s Spanish kindergarten experience as a good language start and a multicultural adaptation experiment, which Martik successfully passed. On our last trip to Cuba, we explored a few local establishments and our next experience will likely be Cuban. But for now, these are just plans…..

We develop 10 types of intelligence

so that your child grows up happy, healthy and successful

Creative

This is not only the ability to be creative, in a broad sense it is the ability to think outside the box, to be original.

At the Baby Club, we believe it is important to give children the opportunity to think freely and bring something new to play and creative work.

Personal

The development of personal intelligence is in the phrase: “Know thyself!”.

In the Baby Club, we teach a child to listen and understand himself, to reflect on his strengths and weaknesses, to develop self-confidence.

Social

In the classroom, children learn to enjoy communication, speak in public and not be afraid of the stage, be able to communicate with peers and adults, listen to others and be sociable.

Physical

Our classes include outdoor games, coordination exercises.

The alternation of training and rest, the constant change of activity are the main components of the development of physical intelligence.

Spiritual

Its foundations are laid at a young age. This is the ability to perceive oneself as part of a vast universe.

Experienced, we introduce kids to objects and phenomena, the world around us, help the child to find a positive meaning in life and a broad outlook.

Sensory

In the classroom, we listen to music or sounds of nature, depict our feelings, experiment, explore and guess smells, taste, discuss.

In this way we develop the five main senses and intuition.

Sensual

From an early age, it is important for children to feel physical contact with other people.

In the classroom, boys and girls learn to take care of each other, give and receive compliments, and discuss the differences between a man and a woman with a specialist.

Spatial

Helps the child to feel the connection of objects in space, to realize his place in society.

In the Baby Club we play chess, learn to navigate with a compass and maps, think spatially, lay the foundations of skills for future doctors and artists, artists and engineers.

Digital

At the Baby Club, we introduce children to numbers from an early age. Leo Tolstoy said: “Counting up to 100 is the basis of mathematics.

In the classroom, children learn to measure their height and weight correctly, add and subtract, calculate class time, and even calculate money for their purchases.

Verbal

In the Baby Club classes, children learn to read texts and retell, express their thoughts clearly and figuratively, fantasize and invent their own stories.

Helping to see the strengths of your child

For example, a child needs to learn a poem. How to make it easier and faster? Depends which skills are more developed in a child

  • Does perceive information well by ear?

Several times with expression read a poem aloud

    Sensory Intelligence

  • Need to see with my own eyes, to remember?

Draw association pictures that will help the child remember words

    Creative and sensory intelligence

  • Sings something all the time, does like music?

    Sing a poem
    several times

    Creative intelligence

  • “Perpetual Motion”,
    not sitting in place

    dance

Methodical Department of the Baby Club

We have developed a method of circular intellectual training (CIT), the advantage of which is the concept of 10 types of intelligence. We built the structure of classes according to age, developed games and tasks that comprehensively develop the personality of the child.

Both physical training and mental processes are equally important for us. It is not enough just to be able to count and read, the same integral part of life is the ability to look inside yourself and understand what exactly you want as a person. Duluth is a city in the state of Minnesota and the capital of Saint Louis County.
Duluth is a port at an altitude of 185 m above sea level on the shores of Lake Superior, the largest and coldest of the Great Lakes. This determined the basis of its economy – the processing of goods. Tourism is also developed in the city. nine0016 The lake also significantly affects the climate of the city. One of the unofficial names for Duluth is Air Conditioning City. The climate is damp, windy, one of the coldest in the US (excluding Alaska). The average daily temperature from mid-November to early April does not exceed 0 °C. Precipitation is 727 mm per year, falling mainly in the form of light rain or drizzle in summer, and in the form of snow in winter. The average annual temperature is +3.8 °C.
The population of Duluth in 2000 was 86.9 thousand people, of which 92.65% belong to the white race. About a third of the inhabitants are descendants or immigrants from Scandinavia. 18.5% of the inhabitants are of German origin. Among the natives of Duluth is Bob Dylan. nine0016 Duluth in 1905

The 7th Avenue Railroad was built in 1891 to take passengers to the top of Beacon Hill on Duluth Lake, 50 feet above the harbor Upper. By 1893, a pavilion was built near the upper station. It hosted concerts and special events.
1900. People gathered to watch the balloon flight. The photograph shows the upper station and the hangar of the funicular. The machine is visible in the final position. She did not fit entirely in the hangar. nine0021

It was a funicular with two cars large enough to transport passengers and horses on two tracks at once.
1900. Photo of Upper Station

The upper station of the funicular was equipped with a steam engine and served as a transfer point to the Highland Park tram line, which started on the other side of the funicular station.

caught fire with a steam locomotive at the upper station on May 28, 1901 The fire destroyed the upper station and spread to the pavilion, which was also burned to the ground.
The photograph below is extremely valuable in that it still shows the funicular machine itself among the ruins. In a few minutes, the cable that still supports the car will melt from the heat and the car will rush down. nine0016 May 28, 1901 – Smoking ruins of the pavilion and upper station

In the photo we see the lower station and the wrecked car. No one was hurt, because the cable rupture as a consequence of the fire was predicted by the rescuers and people from the lower station were evacuated in time.
May 28, 1901 – Lower station after the fire

Details of the funicular machine can be seen in this photo. Basically, these were platforms for carts and horses. There was a small compartment for passengers on the outside of the car. nine0016

Six months after the fire and car crash, the funicular was restored, but only from one car moving along the left (western) track. The steam engine was replaced by a power plant. On the second track, the machine was replaced by a counterweight.
1905 – New view of funicular

At the top of the right track you can see a flat counterweight. There is no longer an upper station hangar.

When transferred to a computer size 3200 by 2518

Please note that the new lower station was built on the site of the right track. Passengers had to pass through a narrow door to get on the car. No more wooden gates
1905 – New bottom station

When transferred to a computer size 3200 by 2518

This continued until 1911, when two new machines designed specifically for this funicular were put into operation in 1912
1912 – New funicular

You can see two new cars: one at the top on the left track, the second at the lower station on the right. Note also that four bridges have been removed and replaced with four small intermediate stations located between the two tracks. To access these stations, passengers used the passages located below the tracks
1914 – New lower station

As you can see, the place of passage to the station has again undergone changes. nine0016 1926 – Upper station

In this photo you can see how small the new upper station is.
1926 – The Highland Park line tram still picks up passengers from the top station of the funicular

Cost of home daycare: What is in-home day care and how much will it cost me?

What is in-home day care and how much will it cost me?

In-home day care — or family day care, as it is also commonly known — is child care service in a caregiver’s home rather than in a commercial day care center.

In-home day care services can range from informal arrangements, like the retired neighbor who watches a handful of local children in her home, to a more formal environment offering state-licensed and accredited programming led by a caregiver with a degree in early childhood education.

According to a recent Care.com Cost of Care Survey, nearly one in three families spends 20 percent or more of their household income on child care, and the survey reflects that those costs are rising each year. The survey also found that 67 percent of new parents are taken by surprise by the costs of how much child care winds up costing them. In fact, according to Child Care Aware of America, child care costs are even outpacing college tuition.

Breaking down the cost for families

Christine Furgason, 49, has owned and operated Christine’s Childcare in Greenwood Village, Colorado, since 2013. In 2015, she became a licensed provider, which allows her to care for up to six children in her home. However, she said her personal preference is to care for up to four children maximum.

“If you are able to find good home day care, it’s way better because as a parent you have more flexibility, there’s less turnover, less risk for children to get sick, and more bonding takes place in a home setting,” Furgason said. “With a small group like this, we can do field trips and I can show them the world outside these four walls. That’s more difficult to do in a center.”

She said she provides the children in her care with breakfast, lunch and snacks, which include organic fruits and vegetables, as well as organic milk. She also provides some extras like wipes and sunscreen, while parents are responsible for diapers. Furgason’s hours are Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 4:30 p.m. on Fridays. Parents pay $325 a week ($65 daily), or $75 a day for part-time care. On the few occasions when Furgason cannot personally be at work — like when her own son graduated from kindergarten — she’ll enlist the help of a local mother who is a licensed social worker.

Yelena Boguslavsky, 34, said she first learned of a local home day care in her neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, through a trusted co-worker and enrolled her son in the program when he was 13 months old. Her son, who turns 3 in July, continues to attend the program daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., though hours run until 6 p.m. According to Boguslavsky, there are two head teachers along with an assistant to care for approximately 16 children.

“The day care provides all the meals — breakfast, lunch, snack and another snack for the children that are picked up after 5 p.m.,” said Boguslavsky, who pays $50 a day for a total of $1,040 per month, or $12,480 annually.

Parents are responsible for the diapers at Boguslavsky’s son’s day care, as well as any ointment the child may need, while the program provides the wipes.

“[Home day care] was highly recommended, and the pricing was affordable compared to the day care centers in the area,” she said.

While home day care is typically the least costly option for families (besides free care, of course), pricing can vary widely based on a number of factors including where you live, your provider’s experience and whether they’re licensed by the state, what services will be provided, and the age and needs of your child or children.

Determining factors of day care costs

Location: Where you live will strongly determine how costly these services can be. In-home day care in small, rural towns will generally be more affordable than in big, metropolitan cities. According to the national non-profit organization Child Care Aware of America (CCAA), Mississippi offers the lowest cost home day care, while Massachusetts tops the list, followed by New York and Connecticut as the next most expensive.

Here’s a list of average home day care pricing around the country for an infant and a 4-year-old child, according to CCAA:

State Annual cost (per infant) Annual cost (per 4-year-old)
    Alabama $4,867 $5,003
    Alaska $10,101 $9,645

    New York $10,972 $10,140
    North Carolina $7,412 $6,548
    North Dakota $7,132 $6,842
    Ohio $7,358 $6,731
    Oklahoma $6,848 $5,964

    Pennsylvania $8,066 $7,238
    Rhode Island $10,179 $9,375
    South Carolina $4,680 $4,420
    South Dakota N/A $15,220
    Tennessee $6,183 $5,715
    Texas $6,726 $5,272
    Utah $8,824 $7,317

    Vermont

    $8,205

    $7,749

    Virginia $9,516 $8,060
    Washington $10,457 $8,333
    West Virginia $6,500 $5,720
    Wyoming $7,800 $7,800

Provider experience: Pricing will vary based on your chosen provider’s experience. For example, is the caregiver a local mom or friend with some babysitting experience under her belt? Or does the caregiver have a master’s degree in early childhood education and certifications in CPR, first aid and emergency preparedness? The more certifications and formal education the caregiver has will likely be reflected in the cost of care.

Licensing and accreditation status: A licensed and accredited in-home child care provider will typically cost more due to their overhead costs versus a local mom who watches two children along with her own and isn’t licensed. Working with a licensed practitioner is an important factor to consider when employing a caregiver. Having a license means providers must abide by certain caregiver/child ratios, space requirements, and safety regulations. Without a license, caregivers may not be required to do so and are not regulated by any governing body.

Child’s age: Is your child a newborn or infant who needs to be fed, burped and have their diaper changed throughout the day? If your answer is “yes,” this could be the costliest age in terms of care, as infants require the most attention. Once a child turns 2 years old, child care costs generally decrease.

Meals: Will your caregiver provide a nutritious breakfast, lunch and snacks for your child? If so, be prepared for those meals to be factored into your overall child care cost. If you plan or are required to provide your own food for your child, you might pay less, depending on the policies.

Supplies: The more the caregiver has to provide, in most instances, the costlier the service. Are you required to supply baby wipes and other related supplies or will they be provided by your caregiver?

All these factors and more — depending on your specific situation — come into play when it comes to the overall cost of in-home day care.

How to Set Your Home Daycare Prices-Little Sprouts Learning

How much you charge for your home daycare fees depends on many factors. People ask me all the time about home daycare prices and how to set them. Here are some things to consider when running a home daycare and setting prices.

The fees you charge for your home daycare business depend on the area you live in, the services you provide, and the ages of children you will be caring for. Many people charge different prices for kids under 2 and over 2. And then again different fees for school age kids.

Many people feel school age kids should be less expensive, but they use far more supplies and eat far more food in general than younger kids. In addition, they don’t take naps, so you actively watch them more hours a day. They also put a lot more wear and tear on your home and equipment than younger children.

Babies take a lot more time than kids over two, so consider that when making your rates. For 20 years I kept ages birth through 12. Over the past few years, I’ve stopped keeping infants as they are so much harder on your body and I’m not 24 anymore. There are also more risks with infants as well.

It’s difficult to keep toddlers and preschoolers from hurting babies on accident or from disturbing their sleep. It’s also hard to have activities with older kids when a baby may poop or get hungry and disrupt your plans.

A few years after that, I stopped keeping school age kids. I’m getting older and I wanted to simplify my work. I wanted to have less equipment in the house. And I wanted to focus on what’s the most fun to me and that is preschool.

How much should I charge for in home daycare

When you own your own home daycare, you get to set the rules and the rates. You can’t price yourself out of the business, but if you give excellent quality care, your reputation will allow you to charge what you want.

For more information on how to start a home daycare, click on this links.

You need to consider expenses to run the business. I bring in a good chunk of change each year, but most of the money I make goes to care for the children. I spend over $7,000 a year just on food to feed them. That doesn’t consider all the toys, supplies, and other things I need to run my business.

So, the first thing to consider is how much does it cost to run the daycare? What are the start up expenses? What are the must have supplies?

Then consider what the going rates are in your area for center and home care. Most of the time centers charge more than home daycare providers can. But if you make a unique niche for yourself, you can charge more. Some people won’t pay it and some will be glad to. When you charge a little more, you get better clients as well.

I have definitely noticed that over the years. When I was a bargain, I got treated like crap. When I charged more, I got more respect. But I also give respect and present myself as a professional. So that makes a difference too. You have to respect yourself and your business for other people to. Do you have a proper contract and business policies? Do you act professionally with your clients? Are you open and honest in your communication?

    These things are all important.

    Home daycare rates

Some areas of the country have a high cost of living and some have low. Where I live in Oklahoma, the cost of living is very low and incomes are low. So, I charge far less than someone would in other states.

You can call a few centers in your area as a potential client and ask what they charge.

You can check the subsidy rates in your area.

You can also check with your resource and referral agency and see if they have a median rate that daycares in the area charge.

What are your special gifts and unique services that you offer? Your tuition rates should reflect if you offer something extra.

Do you supply all the diapers and wipes? Then you would charge more than someone who doesn’t.

Do you supply all the food or require parents to pack lunches?

Do you supply baby food and formula or does the family?

What about fees? Do you want to charge a curriculum fee or activity fee periodically? You could do it monthly or yearly.

Do you charge an enrollment fee? It’s a good idea because all of the time and paperwork you have to prepare to meet a potential client is costly. You can charge it before the interview and then if they don’t show up, at least you are compensated for your time.

Are you going to purchase curriculum? You can pass that cost onto your families if you would like.

Setting your prices for home daycare

Setting your home daycare prices can take a little time, but it’s easier to set them high than to raise them so remember that when you start out. I raise my rates every other year and it’s in my contract that I raise them in September. So, everyone knows they may go up and when they don’t, I make everyone extra happy. So, consider doing something like that to let people know the rates aren’t set in stone.

When you are going to raise them, use these steps to raise your rates. Make sure you give people enough notice. I would say a month is plenty. I put it in my days off in January what they will go up to in September, so there are no surprises around here.

No one ever complains about me raising my prices. Many people say their parents do. But if someone doesn’t want to stay, there is always another family out there that will be willing to pay you what you’re worth, so don’t worry about losing clients over rates. Working is not a hobby. They work their jobs to make money for their families. So do you.

Once you have decided what your home daycare prices will be, stand by them. Giving in to complaints and lowering prices is not good for you or for your business. I wouldn’t recommend giving sibling discounts either. It costs you the same amount of money and time to watch each child.

If a family has two kids enrolled, that doesn’t make their food or supplies cheaper for you. And 9 times out of 10 siblings fight more and cause more problems. So, charge what you charge regardless of how many kids a family is enrolling.

No one is going to take care of you and your family but you. So set the rates that work for your family and not everyone else’s. You are worth it and your services have value. No one is going to work any job for free.

How to choose a private kindergarten

World of CISArticles How to choose a private kindergarten

    May 1, 2020

Home education is not always able to provide preparation for school at the proper level. But not all parents are ready to send their child to a regular kindergarten. A worthy modern alternative to public kindergartens is private preschools, which are of interest to those who cannot or do not want to raise their child at home before school.

Considering the fact that the basic needs of a person are formed precisely in childhood, it is necessary to choose a private kindergarten for a child very responsibly – so that the child not only goes there with pleasure, but also receives a solid starting base of knowledge and skills necessary for later life.

To answer the question of which private kindergarten is worth your attention, let’s consider the real possibilities of preschool institutions, which today offer different programs to choose from.

    Advantages of a private kindergarten

The main and undoubted advantage of private children’s institutions is an individual approach to each pupil. When filling groups of no more than 5-10 people, each child is given enough attention.

In addition, we can talk about a number of other advantages, namely:

    • pre-school educational programs supplemented by advanced pedagogical developments;
    • professional educators;
    • balanced nutrition with the possibility of adjusting the menu for the specific characteristics of the child’s body.

Children are offered educational and story games indoors and outdoors, watching educational videos, music lessons, arts and crafts lessons, physical exercises, and, if necessary, speech therapy correction. Especially in demand today is such a solution as a kindergarten with the study of English.

    Private English Kindergarten

It is comfortable and effective to start learning a foreign language in kindergarten. The “kindergarten” age for starting classes is the most suitable, since babies are very receptive to the development of speech-related skills, and in a team the process goes faster due to additional communication between children with the same level of preparation.

As a rule, in such institutions, children communicate in Russian in the first half of the day, and in English in the second. Thus, earlier immersion in the language environment is achieved, and children simultaneously master two languages at once. Professionally speaking English teachers facilitate and coordinate the immersion of preschool children in the general educational process.

The main question for parents is how to choose a private kindergarten that will provide the necessary preschool education for the child. A unique offer from CIS International School is a kindergarten with in-depth study of English with native speakers.

Features of the kindergarten at the CIS school:

    • a variety of activities that ensure the comprehensive development of the child;
    • development of key social, personal and emotional skills;
    • experienced teachers, high efficiency of the educational process.

Education in our kindergartens is carried out according to the program for children of preschool age, used in all British international schools.

    Lincoln Site Access and Safety:

    • Lincoln Elementary is located in a high density, high traffic area. Lincoln Elementary is best accessed on foot at drop off and pick up times. Parents and guardians should park further away from the school, near the post office or near the lake and take a short walk to Lincoln Elementary to avoid traffic congestion. Please do not double park on 10th or 11th streets. The city of Oakland tickets cars double parked near the school.
    • We will lock the gate on Alice Street after the second bell, a little past 8:30 am and the main entrance on 11th street after 8:40 am for student and staff safety. Students and parents arriving late should ring the doorbell at the main entrance on 11th street. All students arriving late are expected to sign in at the main entrance for attendance accuracy. Office staff have to record attendance for tardy students.
    • Masking is highly encouraged. If individuals wish to make a different choice, I ask that everyone respect their choice.
    • Parents and guardians may not enter hallways, classrooms or the cafeteria during instructional time.
    • Students in grades TK- 1st must be dropped off and picked up from Yard A, which is accessible through the gates on 10th and 11th streets. Names of teachers are posted on the walls to indicate where to line up.
    • Students in grades 2nd- 5th must be dropped off and picked up from Yard B on the Alice street side. Names of teachers are posted on the fence along the turf and the outdoor squash wall on Yard B to indicate where to line up.
    • Teachers will meet students at their lines at 8:25 am when the first bell rings.
    • Please know that we are staggering our lunch schedule to keep students and staff safe. Lunch is served over 6 lunch periods. There are a total of 8 air purifiers and 3 fans and 2 industrial exhaust fans placed in the Lincoln cafeteria to continually purify air and maintain the recommended number of air exchanges.

    Positive case notification protocol:

    • Please test your student frequently using rapid tests.
    • If your student or family member test positive, please email me immediately at [email protected]
    • I will work with our attendance specialist to record absences accurately.
    • I will inform contact tracers.
    • Contact tracers will give you advice regarding isolation, testing etc.
    • Contact tracers will also issue exposure notices, where needed.
    • Contact tracers will clear your student to return to campus and notify me.

Oakland Unified considers closing as many as 19 schools over two years

OAKLAND — Oakland Unified School District administrators are proposing to permanently close as many as 19 schools over the next two years because of declining enrollment, according to a preliminary draft released by a school board member.

The draft lists 13 schools – mostly elementary level – that could either close or merge at the end of this academic year and six more that could close or merge after the following academic year starting in 2023.

District officials cautioned that the list, which school board member Mike Hutchinson publicly released earlier this week, isn’t final. On Monday, the district will host a virtual meeting with board members and the community to discuss the proposed closures. The board is scheduled to vote on a final list at its Feb. 8 meeting.

In a memo sent to families after the list was released, the district’s chief business officer, Lisa Grant-Dawson, outlined why the district administration is considering school closures and consolidation.

The district has more teachers per student than 94% of the largest 50 school districts in California, even though they may be paid less on average than their peers, Grant-Dawson’s memo states. Yet over the last 20 years, the district has lost about 15,000 students, she added.

Oakland Unified runs 80 schools for 33,000 students, compared to Fremont Unified’s 42 schools for 34,000 students and San Jose Unified’s 41 schools for 30,000, according to Grant-Dawson’s figures.

Enrollment in Oakland’s elementary schools varies widely, from a low of 110 to more than 700. Grant-Dawson projects that next year, the district will have 19 elementary schools with fewer than 304 students, making them financially unsustainable.

“Our large investment in under-enrolled small schools has also forced us to repeatedly make cuts and other budget adjustments, including $40 million that the Board of Education confirmed on Wednesday night for next school year,” she wrote, noting that cuts were made to staff positions and deferred maintenance such as reroofing.

“All of that has harmed students in other ways, including challenges to keep our schools clean and in proper working order,” Grant-Dawson’s memo says. “The number of custodians, gardeners, plumbers, and other staff we have simply cannot keep up with the daily needs at all the schools we currently operate.”

Hutchinson, who opposes the closures, rejected the district’s reasoning, noting the memo did not specify how much money would be saved by closing the schools on the list.

“The district is not in a financial crisis,” Hutchinson said in an interview Friday, adding that the $40 million the school board cut this week addressed the looming shortfall.

“There is a narrative that we are in perpetual crisis, that we can’t pay our bills,” he said. “In 2003, we were taken over by the state, which forced a loan on us, and the state started closing public schools. It opened charter schools in their place. If we have too many schools, it’s because there are over 40 charter schools in our system.”

The prospect of closing schools has long been a point of controversy in Oakland. After the school board rejected an option of closing schools last fall, the state ruled in December that Alameda County could intervene in Oakland Unified’s budget process.

Alameda County Superintendent of Schools L.K. Monroe had warned Oakland school board members in November she was concerned about the district’s reliance on one-time revenues to stay afloat instead of making the deep funding cuts needed.

The school district should cut about $90 million, according to Monroe. In a letter late last year, she ordered the district to hand over its “Board-approved, budget-balancing solutions” by Jan. 31, 2022, and noted the county will review its financial controls.

In response, the school board on Jan. 12 directed Oakland Unified administrators to draft a list of schools that potentially could be closed.

Hutchinson objects to the tight timeline and the lack of community meetings. In the past, school closures have involved multiple meetings at campuses with families, he said. In contrast, a Feb. 8 deadline means the process will have taken only about two weeks.

At its meeting this week, the school board also extended the deadline for all students to be vaccinated against COVID 19 from Monday to Aug. 1. With 3,000 students still unvaccinated, the district would have had to force many of them out of school.

To attend Monday’s board meeting about school closures, visit www.ousd.org.

The schools listed for possible closure at the end of this academic year are Prescott Elementary, Brookfield Elementary, Carl B. Munck Elementary, Parker Elementary, Grass Valley Elementary, La Escuelita, Westlake Middle School, Ralph J. Bunche Academy, Street Academy, Rudsdale High School, Community Day School and Hillcrest School. New Highland Academy and RISE Community would merge.

Schools on the list for possible closure after the following year are Horace Mann Elementary, Fruitvale Elementary, Manzanita Community School and Korematsu Discovery Academy. In addition, International Community School and Think College Now would merge, as would Acorn Woodland Elementary and Encompass Academy.

Working in Portugal without speaking the language WithPortugal

If you are planning to move to Portugal without knowing the language and would like to find a job for hire, this article is for you. I will talk about the most popular areas of employment and the features of each of them.

A few months ago, I went to a cafe, which, as it turned out, was bought by a good friend of mine. Word by word, it turned out that the most difficult thing in his work was to find waiters. He and 2 other cafes located nearby literally arrange an auction to lure a girl who is ready to serve customers. They take turns coming to the place where she now works and offering her 10€/day more than her employer pays.

Later, I spoke with two colleagues who work in the field of digital marketing, and they complained about the same problem: the lack of an adequate workforce.

As it turned out, there is no one to work again in Portugal. I will not write about vacancies that require certain qualifications. Such places usually require fluency in Portuguese and/or English, and foreigners who need to “hook” in a new country need a job with a minimum of requirements until they learn the language.

    Factory work

Metallurgy, textile and furniture industries are well developed in Portugal. The production requires a lot of unskilled workers. Often ads look like this: “I am looking for machine operators with no work experience. Immediate employment”, which emphasizes the urgency of the vacancy. The job consists of maintaining equipment or performing minor operations on a conveyor. It also requires a lot of seamstresses with basic skills.

In this case, most often we are talking about shift work and minimum wage + lunch subsidy (2-4€ per day). Shifts that cover night hours or weekends are paid extra. An employment contract is usually drawn up for several months (from 1 to 6), with a possible subsequent extension.

The job is to perform simple operations that the Portuguese can explain on the fingers. Often, Russian-speaking people work in the shops, who will help to adapt.

    Of the minuses:

    • Work can be monotonous, sometimes in an uncomfortable position or with contrasts that are difficult for the eyes, which may not be suitable for people with problems with the musculoskeletal system or with poor eyesight;
    • Frequently damp, hot or cold workshops;
    • Strict schedule: 15 minutes break for lunch or 5 minutes once a day to use the toilet. Delays are not accepted, you need to be punctual;
    • Some factories don’t allow you to go on vacation whenever you want. There is a collective agreement that you can only rest in August and December, when the whole factory closes for a few weeks.

Vacancies in the field of production can be viewed at this link.

My fiancé runs a fabric dyeing shop. Right now he needs 3 workers to control the equipment. If young Portuguese come to these places, then they “merge” after a few hours or days with the words “This is not for me”. The workshop is hot, humid, clothes deteriorate due to chemical solutions and paints, sometimes you need to carry weights. The “old people”, accustomed to such conditions, are waiting for a pension, and the young prefer to look for work in the office or sit on unemployment benefits.

I know several Slavs who have been working in factories for many years. For others, such work was the first step for settling in a new country.

    Work in agriculture

Recently, passing by orchards, I saw many heads in turbans. I immediately remembered that in the north of Portugal I meet more and more Indians. Once I asked the Portuguese what the reason was. What triggered the increase in migration from India? The answer was “Lack of manpower”. As they explained to me, they didn’t want to hire Indians before, because there is an opinion that they are not distinguished by diligence and commitment. But due to the lack of an alternative, the owners of agricultural land were forced to hire them, and they, in turn, invited more compatriots. Of course, this is only the opinion of one Portuguese, and it is wrong to evaluate all representatives of one nationality on the basis of such unfounded generalizations, but this opinion again confirms the seriousness of the labor shortage problem in Portugal.

Work in agriculture is often seasonal work, from May to October. Consists mainly of harvesting, for example, vegetables or grapes. There is a special name for grape harvesting – vindima (windIma), on which you can earn about 50 € per day. There is even a special category on the job search site. Offers in other areas of agriculture can be found here.

But the work is difficult, requiring physical endurance and unpretentiousness to working conditions, but in the fresh air. In addition, you need to be careful when choosing an employer if you are going to be taken somewhere far from settlements (in the mountains or in the fields of Alentejo). In Portugal, there were cases of slave labor of both foreigners and the local population. Documents were taken away, taken to isolated territories and forced to work without pay for years. It would be nice if someone “on the mainland” knew where you were going, with whom, sometimes contacted you, and in the absence of such, informed the competent authorities.

    Employment in the service sector

The Bank of Portugal released statistics showing that tourism is up 95% of pre-Covid 2019, showing a faster recovery in this industry than analysts had expected. As a result, there is an acute shortage of staff in hotels, catering, attractions, etc. Tourists have already felt this: in restaurants, you have to wait for an order for a very long time, the staff is exhausted, because they work at maximum speed for two or three. Those who were fired during the pandemic and found work elsewhere are reluctant to return to tourism for fear of another crisis. According to the Portuguese Hotel Tourism Association, the industry has even begun to increase salaries in order to attract employees to rebuild the staff.

Of course, without knowledge of Portuguese and other languages it is difficult to get a job where you need to communicate with clients. However, this does not apply to cleaning rooms, washing dishes or preparing simple meals in the kitchen. Jobs can be viewed here.

    Construction work

How much do you want to earn per hour? I have a job for you all year round! – that’s what my fiancé’s uncle heard when he showed how he put his son’s newly bought apartment in order.

According to a study by fixando. pt, a service-posting site for various professionals, about half of Portuguese requests for repair or restoration work go unanswered due to labor shortages in the industry. The same applies to the installation and maintenance of swimming pools and air conditioners, the demand for which traditionally increases with the advent of heat. The shortage of labor in construction provokes an increase in prices for services, delays the commissioning of new facilities, and some contracts even have to be terminated.

However, the Builders’ Syndicate insists that the problem lies elsewhere, namely low wages.

Be that as it may, if you know how to lay tiles, paint walls or have skills in other operations necessary in construction and repair, you will not be left without a job. You can try your luck here.

Work in the field of beauty

Nails, massage, cleaning, haircut… All this is very necessary and I think a good specialist can do without language, at least at the first stage. If you get a job in a salon where there are Russian-speaking employees, it will be even easier to adapt. Jobs in the beauty industry in Portugal can be viewed here.

    Food delivery work

In Portugal, food delivery and other purchases are only gaining momentum. So you can try to ride the wave of growing orders.

Principal firms: Glovo, Uber Eats, Takeaway.com.

An additional difficulty of this work for a newcomer to a new country is orientation in other conditions. When I first started driving in Portugal, I was very confused by too narrow streets and signs with names of cities unknown to me. Back then, GPS was just coming into vogue. But now navigators have become available to everyone, so there should be no difficulties.

A common problem for all the above options is to pass the interview and initial briefing. Here you can not do without a translator. You can ask your new acquaintances / neighbors or make a request in groups on Facebook.
