Lara Family Childcare is a wonderful daycare. We have our 2.5yr old Son enrolled three days a week. Our son wakes up super excited to go to daycare and doesn’t want to leave when the day is over. He loves playing with his friends, eating Lara’s home cooked healthy meals, and enjoys different activities that Lara plans out like the photo where the kids are cooking pizza. We absolutely love Ms. Lara! Our family is on the east coast so Ms. Lara has become family to us! She cooks the healthiest and most delicious food for the children and she also makes sure each child gets a great nap! My daughter sleeps 2+ hours at Lara’s! They have a nice outdoor space in the backyard where they play with bubbles, balls, small slides and tricycles. My daughter comes home singing nursery rhymes and even knows her colors. Most importantly she is learning to play and interact with other children her age. Ms. Lara is very friendly with a calm demeanor which goes a long way with us and the kids. I would recommend anyone looking for a in-home daycare to visit Lara’s. You will be happy you did. -Roma F.

Amazing daycare! Lara is very caring person and loves kids like her own. My daughter goes to daycare with the smile and already learned so much! Origin of the partnership

Since 1998 there has been a twinning relationship between Jena and San Marcos in the department of Carazo in Nicaragua (Central America). In San Marcos twinning is coordinated by the twinning association APRODIM (Association for the Integral Development of Municipalities) and in Jena by the Eine-Welt-Haus e. V. (House of one world).

Geography and Society

San Marcos is a medium-sized Nicaraguan city with 32,000 inhabitants, 13,000 of whom live in the city center and 19,000 in the rural area. The area of ​​the territory is 108 km² (Jena: 114.2 km²), the population density is 279 inhabitants / km² (Jena: 874 / km²).

From 01.04.2015 a project based on a long-term partnership is being implemented, which is due to end on 31.03.2020. Butterflies, frogs and poems – blog on

V.P. Chkalov, of course, far from all my work with the world of “our smallest brothers” fit. Therefore, this entry is, in part, a continuation of the theme already announced earlier. These posts simply had to be divided due to conceptual differences.

So, today I want to present you a whole series of my children’s drawings, made somewhere in the 2nd – 3rd grade. The time limit associated with studying in the 3rd grade is the most accurate – in the fall of 1997 years in the school class, not without the help of my mother and class teacher Marina Revovna Sokolova (and, of course, my teacher of the Art Studio – Inna Stepanovna Solovieva), my very first personal exhibition was organized. A series of these graphic works (if not in full, then in partial composition, for sure) was exhibited then. The exhibition was then filmed by local television – the NNTV channel, but I don’t know how to get this recording now. Just in the second grade, I seriously began to get involved in drawing with pen and ink, the last one I had as many as three colors – red, green and black. The dried remains of black ink I diluted and used much later – for example, when I painted “October” – a work for the calendar, I have it here in my portfolio.

As you could see last time, I had quite a lot of ink drawings of various insects. For example, here is another one:

The line from the book about birds and butterflies and their mythological names became the caption to the picture.

I don’t remember exactly where the idea came from to draw a small composition with a butterfly (and a minimum of surrounding elements) on the entire A4 sheet and add short white verses to the drawing. Now everyone knows perfectly well what haiku is and what they eat with, but then, at the end of 90’s, all this was new – at least for me, a child. I don’t remember exactly which of the butterflies came first and in what sequence they appeared, so I’ll have to stick to the approximate remaining memories. This work is remarkable not only because it was preceded by a small sketch, but also because on the original I hastened to paint over the wings of a butterfly with a red gel pen. Because of this, on photocopies (at that time we could photocopy graphics with virtually no loss of quality, for the first time we discovered this trick of technology) we got gray wings, which was not very good. class at 9-th, for the sake of interest, on the scanned version of the picture, I covered the red pieces in the paint with white squares. It turned out pretty creepy…

This is Lilac Hawk Moth (Sphinx Ligustri), and I also tried to color the flowers next to the butterfly with a red gel pen:

True, this time I was much more prudent, and first I made several copies without color from the drawing. I liked this drawing as a child, but Inna Stepanovna, not without laughter, criticized me for the “telephone receiver” – which was formed from two flowers connected by one stem.

Among butterflies hawk hawks have always amazed and surprised me. Furry night flyers, despite the basics of camouflage in books, have always been painted in bright colors. I have never seen such butterflies live (they live in much warmer regions).

Of course, not all butterflies turned out equally expressive and interesting. But I tried and experimented. Some of the works I like more, some less.

This drawing is notable for the fact that in 2001 it appeared on the pages of the Doctor FOM newspaper in an article by my biology teacher E.V. Bystritskaya “This is a wonderful moment of beauty.” The article just said about the last exhibition (proof that I didn’t come up with everything!), but for some reason they called me “deprived of the opportunity to often communicate with nature.” In any case, I still keep the newspaper clipping as a memory.

I later redid this drawing – I didn’t like how the overly thick body of the butterfly turned out, so I had to do a “plastic surgery” on it:

Here the indefatigable hawk moth strives for the light of a lamp that I drew from life – this one really stood and stands now on the desk in our room. This lamp has been helping me draw in the evenings and at night for many years.

Over time, it became not so interesting to draw just butterflies. After all, some kind of plot, a detail associated with a butterfly was needed to make a full-fledged drawing. And then I decided to add other animals:

The appearance of the Siamese cat, apparently, is due to the fact that at that time my mother and I were reading a series of books about the family of Siamese cats, which came out in the same series as the books by Gerald Durrell, which we traditionally read in the summer. Well, where the cat is, there is the dog:

The final work in the series with butterflies and poems was a linocut, on which hawks cut through at night in search of flower nectar: ​​

On one of the versions of this engraving, I even tried to color Lilac Hawk Moth as it should be, but I didn’t figure out what to do with the rest:

As everyone knows, there can be an arbitrarily large number of prints from one engraving, and depending on the amount of ink or other print details, the prints may differ from each other. So our night butterflies ended up in the fog (probably together with the Hedgehog and the Horse):

it lies safe and sound along with other engravings in the folder.

Again, I don’t quite remember why I suddenly sat down to draw a frog. But it turned out somehow by itself (I remember that then a strange feeling of deja vu did not leave me, as if I had already seen this drawing somewhere), the moon appeared next to the frog, and then a small poem appeared:

Of course, one frog, and even more so saddened, would look rather sad and doomed, so I decided to draw her company:

Frogs were exhibited, of course, only together, it looked like this: certificates for them.

In conclusion, I must say thanks to my teacher – Inna Stepanovna Solovieva, who supported my initiatives and ideas. This series of works was probably one of my favorite drawings made during my studies at the art studio.

I cannot but say a huge thank you to my mother, who also helped me and was the first censor and adviser when I drew this series at home, besides, many of the poems cited were written not without her help and apt poetic words.

In Sanskrit, the butterfly pose is known as Baddha Konasana, which means “bound angle”. As you can see, there is not a word about the butterfly here: “buddha” is “connected”, and “kona” is “corner”. But the position of the legs in this asana just resembles a beautiful representative of the fauna. As we practice the pose, we seem to flap our wings (our legs), opening and relaxing our hip joints more and more. And this is very useful! Especially for those who sit a lot (for example, work at a computer), who move little and go in for sports.

The butterfly pose is therefore very popular and is included in almost every yoga class. Pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation are also practiced in this position. But it becomes available to those who have been practicing yoga for a long time. And today we will figure out how to master Baddha Konasana for beginners, learn all the subtleties of performing the asana, its beneficial properties and contraindications.

Benefits of exercise

Despite its apparent simplicity, the effectiveness of the butterfly pose for health is enormous:

• improves blood circulation in the pelvic organs and lower back, abdomen
• improves the condition of the kidneys, urinary organs
• opens and develops the hip joints

Those who do the butterfly pose every day are not threatened with diseases such as sciatica, varicose veins.

Recommendation for women

It is believed that Baddha Konasana is especially useful for women. A sedentary lifestyle, menstrual pain, ovarian dysfunction are direct indications for performing this asana.

Recommended for all pregnant women! I’ll explain why. The butterfly pose improves the opening of the hip joints, in the pelvic region, blood begins to circulate better. All this – with daily practice – leads to easier childbirth. The asana also strengthens the bladder and uterus.

Harm exercise

There are no serious contraindications to the butterfly position. But one must be very careful for those who have had knee or groin injuries. In this case, the exercise should be performed with folded blankets under the thighs.

Please note! Before starting to practice the butterfly pose, we still recommend that you see a doctor for those who have chronic or acute pain in the hip joints, knee and spine injuries.

How to Do the Butterfly Pose

ATTENTION! The description of the exercise is given for a healthy person. It is better to start the lesson with an instructor who will help you master the correct and safe performance of the asana. If you do it yourself, carefully watch our video tutorial! Wrong practice can be useless and even dangerous to the body.

Step by step technique

Step 1

Sit on the folded blanket. Place your feet together and pull them close to your groin.

Step 2

Grasp the feet with the palms and bring the heels as close to the perineum as possible.

Step 3

If possible, lower your hips to the floor and touch the floor with your knees.

The butterfly may not open at first. Most likely this will happen if you have not practiced yoga before and have just begun to master this asana. It takes time and perseverance for your knees to sink to the floor and the “butterfly” to turn out. In the meantime, take your time, do not endure the pain in this asana and follow our recommendations.

1. It is best to sit on a folded blanket.
2. Before assuming this posture, sway a little to find the most comfortable position.
3. If you find it difficult to keep your back straight, sit against a wall and lean against it.
4. Knees. If they do not fall well (or there were injuries in the groin area), place rollers or folded blankets (towels) under the thighs. This will help relax the muscles and gradually open the pelvis.
5. If you can’t grab your feet with your hands, grab your ankles. Do what works.
6. Never force your knees out. While the muscles are tense, there will be no effect (on the contrary, such tactics can lead not only to pain, but also to injury). Relax them with deep, even breathing. With each exhalation, let go of the tension until you feel comfortable in this position.
7. To relax the muscles will also help “fly wings” – that is, knees. Firmly hold the palms of the feet as close to the groin as possible and “wave” at a fairly fast pace. Run time: 1-2 minutes.
8. Going deeper. After the swings, we gently lean on the right thigh, lowering the right hand on its inner surface. Push the left knee down with the left hand. We repeat the same on the second leg. Make sure that there are no jerks – all movements are smooth, meditative. We return to the center, align the back, reach up with the crown of the head and help with our hands to gently lower both knees to the floor – as much as possible. We breathe evenly and calmly. Let’s get out of this situation.

How to strengthen

So, your knees are already freely falling to the floor, you are in this position easily and comfortably. This means that it is time to deepen the asana. How to do it:

1. Turn the soles of your feet with your palms, their inner edges touching each other. You should end up with an open book.
2. Keeping your back straight, as you exhale, tilt your torso forward as far as possible.
   ATTENTION! The buttocks lie on the floor, the torso is pulled forward.
3. We try to touch the floor with the forehead, and then with the nose and chin. If possible, we remain in this position with slow and even breathing for 30 to 60 seconds (several breathing cycles).
4. Exit the pose carefully. We inhale and as we exhale we raise the body, rounding the back. The chin is pressed to the chest. Raise your head last. We release the feet and connect the knees, helping with our hands. Stretch your legs forward and rest.

Finding Debbie was a godsend for our family. After visiting multiple (seriously, like 9?) corporate and privately-run daycares, I was extremely disappointed and frankly a bit scared about sending my son out into the world. I still don’t know how we got so lucky to stumble across this clean, safe,loving, experienced, affordable and fun (the list goes on) in-home center. Debbie is careful about making sure the children (and parents) she takes on are a good fit for her and the rest of the kids. Since it’s a small group, this is important. She sends photos periodically showing the kids in all their kid glory (arts and crafts, meals, story time, songs, outdoor play, etc.) – makes me wish I could stay and hang out all day, too. My son loves telling me about all the new and exciting things he and his friends do each day. Also, Debbie was really supportive when it came time to potty train, and is diligent about helping my son wear his glasses – even though it’s sometimes hard. Plus, she feeds him food that I would eat (her kitchen smells great!). I love knowing that my son is spending his time with such a wonderful role model. Debbie is a dream and has become a real friend to my son and to our entire family. We could not be happier….

Meet Nicole Rzepka! She is the Center Director at Downingtown KinderCare in Pennsylvania. Nicole attended Alvernia College, where she earned a Paraprofessional certificate, Child Development Associate credential, and a degree in Early Childhood Education. She has been with KinderCare since 2021, and before that she was a teacher and a director. Outside of work, Nicole enjoys watching her son play football, fishing, camping, having bonfires, taking day trips to the lake, volunteering, and spending time with her family. Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)

This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.

Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!

Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)

When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community.  Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

Kindergarten Programs (5–6 Years)

Welcome to kindergarten: the gateway to grade school and everything that
comes next! Offered in select centers, our kindergarten programs have small
class sizes and curriculums that mix learning and fun. The basic building
blocks of reading, writing, math, and science are key in kindergarten, so we
make sure they get lots of practice in all of these areas.

Before- and After-School Programs (5–12 Years)

You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!

School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you

Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)

In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!

Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)

KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.

Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)

Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who

Do you offer part-time schedules at Downingtown KinderCare?

How does naptime work at Downingtown KinderCare?

Do you support alternative diets?

We strive to be as inclusive as possible. To that point, we provide a vegetarian option at mealtime, take care to not serve common allergens and can adapt menus based on your child’s food sensitivities. If your child has additional needs, we’ll work with you to figure out a plan.

Are meals included in tuition? Can I choose to send my child with lunch?

We provide nutritious meals and snacks developed by a registered dietician to meet the needs of rapidly growing bodies and minds. If your child has special dietary requirements and you would prefer to bring in their lunch, please make arrangements with the center director.

Does my child need to be potty-trained?

Every child begins toilet learning at a different age. Until your child shows an interest in toilet learning, we’ll provide diaper changes on an as-needed basis. When your child shows an interest, we’ll discuss how to work together to encourage toilet learning.
