Nestled in a quiet neighborhood of San Marcos is a California state licensed provider Lara Family Childcare run by Lara Trofimov. We provide a warm, safe, entertaining, and developing care Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and may have special hours during holidays. Currently the daycare capacity is 8 children.

Lara Family Childcare is a wonderful daycare. We have our 2.5yr old Son enrolled three days a week. Our son wakes up super excited to go to daycare and doesn’t want to leave when the day is over. He loves playing with his friends, eating Lara’s home cooked healthy meals, and enjoys different activities that Lara plans out like the photo where the kids are cooking pizza.
Our Son is even best buds with Lara’s husband Yurii, I don’t have a bad thing to say about this daycare, it’s wonderful and has been a godsend for my wife and I. Aaron and Anastasiia Knapp

We absolutely love Ms. Lara! Our family is on the east coast so Ms. Lara has become family to us! She cooks the healthiest and most delicious food for the children and she also makes sure each child gets a great nap! My daughter sleeps 2+ hours at Lara’s! They have a nice outdoor space in the backyard where they play with bubbles, balls, small slides and tricycles. My daughter comes home singing nursery rhymes and even knows her colors. Most importantly she is learning to play and interact with other children her age. Ms. Lara is very friendly with a calm demeanor which goes a long way with us and the kids. I would recommend anyone looking for a in-home daycare to visit Lara’s. You will be happy you did. -Roma F.

Amazing daycare! Lara is very caring person and loves kids like her own. My daughter goes to daycare with the smile and already learned so much! Lara cooks fresh meals every day, has lots of toys and they spent plenty time outside. We are very lucky to find this daycare in San Marcos. Highly recommend!!!

Origin of the partnership
Since 1998 there has been a twinning relationship between Jena and San Marcos in the department of Carazo in Nicaragua (Central America). In San Marcos twinning is coordinated by the twinning association APRODIM (Association for the Integral Development of Municipalities) and in Jena by the Eine-Welt-Haus e. V. (House of one world).
Other European sister cities of San Marcos are Biel (Switzerland) and Helmond (Holland).

Geography and Society
San Marcos is a medium-sized Nicaraguan city with 32,000 inhabitants, 13,000 of whom live in the city center and 19,000 in the rural area. The area of the territory is 108 km² (Jena: 114.2 km²), the population density is 279 inhabitants / km² (Jena: 874 / km²).
The city is located at an altitude of 550 m above sea level and has a temperate subtropical climate with an average annual temperature of 24 to 30º C.

San Marcos city center has a medical center where seven doctors and two dentists offer free outpatient diagnostics, but you have to pay for medicines. There are also ten private medical practices. The health center is also responsible for organizing vaccination campaigns, pest control, general hygiene in the city, taking care of schools, etc.
The nearest hospital is in Jinotepe, 5 km from the hotel. Four villages in the rural area of San Marcos have medical centers where the population can receive medical care on weekdays.

Education and culture
The municipality of San Marcos has 44 preschool, primary and secondary schools, distributed between the urban core and the rural area. Some of these schools have partnerships with educational institutions in Jena.
In addition, the city has a municipal high school and a special institution for the deaf and dumb. Economy
The municipality, like Nicaragua as a whole, is dominated by agriculture. Thanks to the stable climate of the Carazo Plateau, this region is ideal for growing coffee. Coffee is produced partly by private cafetaleros and partly by cooperatives, an increasing number of which have been moving towards organic production in recent years.
Even the “sister coffee” available at the One World Shop, among other places, is produced without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Coffee beans are prepared for export at a local processing plant. nine0005
Other agricultural products include citrus fruits and staples such as beans, corn and millet. In addition to planting crops, many farmers keep a few pigs, chickens or a cow, whose meat is sold at the local market.
Large industrial settlements are bounded by so-called free trade zones, where cheap textiles are mainly produced for export. San Marcos, like many other cities in the department, is known for its many small craft firms that produce, among others, furniture, crockery and art.

Project selection
As mentioned above, there are many educational partnerships between the educational institutions of San Marcos and the city of Galle. An example is the cooperation between the Youth and Education Department and the Eine-Welt-Haus e. V. in Jena on the one hand, and the Samuel Calero kindergarten and the Aprodim association in San Marcos on the other.
From 01.04.2015 a project based on a long-term partnership is being implemented, which is due to end on 31.03.2020. Kindergarten fees for 20 children from the Samuel Calero Kindergarten are accepted and grants are made for the necessary materials for pedagogical work in San Marcos and Jena . The Anne Frank Kindergarten and the Munketal Montessori Kindergarten maintain regular pedagogical and cultural exchanges with the Samuel Calero Kindergarten.
