Home Day Care | Orange County, CA

Every child has the unique gift of being an individual; our mission is to build on your child’s unique abilities by encouraging them to explore the world around them. Allowing children to explore their world within safe boundaries and by providing a nurturing & stable environment, children can thrive.

Specialties

Specializing in child care for children ages 6 weeks to Pre-K; in an intimate HOME setting.

History

Established in 1996. Our continued education throughout the years has given us the ability to provide quality child care. In late 1996 we opened our doors to families in South Orange County, California who were in need of assistance with child care and in early 1997 completed the process of attaining our license. In just under two years our early success grew us from a small group facility to a large group facility. This gave us the opportunity to expand our ability to provide a home environment to young children.  In addition, our goal is to support the varous styles of child rearing to best match the styles of each parent and the needs of the child.

Meet the Business Owner

Born in the mid 1960’s, I grew up in South Orange County. After graduation I worked in the corporate world; soon marrying and raising a family of my own. In those early years of raising a child; I had the benefit of having my mother care for my son in her home day care. Shortly thereafter I realized what a great benefit this was to my son in his early years of life.

In 1996 I decided to leave the corporate world as a Health & Safety Manger and open my own home child care. My goal; to provide a loving, nurturing home environment to other children so they could benefit the way my son did, this being an experience I felt many parents wanted for their own children.

Initially caring for one families children during the licensing process in late 1996, by early 1997 the long process of licensing was completed and we were granted our FCCP license. We quickly grew and built a great reputation. Within a short time the need for quality day care in the community lead us to increase our license from a small facility to a large facility in order to assist more families in need of quality care; while still maintaining an intimate feel.

After several years of running a successful business; I joined the Orange County Child Care Association  (OCCCA) and volunteered to assist parents in the community with locating quality child care. After a short time I was nominated and joined the Board of Directors of the OCCCA. Bringing my skills in the corporate world, I took on many roles, from Membership Chairperson, Newsletter Editor and Website Designer.

While no longer on the Board I enjoy assisting the many parents who look for child care in the community.

For many years to come we plan on keeping our home open to the families in need of child care in our community and continue our education.

EVERY CHILD IS UNIQUE

Mission

To provide a loving family child care home to infants and toddlers. To assist parents by giving their child a foundation and head start to launch them on their journey in life.

a HOME away from HOME

Since 1996 this has been our slogan. Why? While we believe there is nothing better than the time parents get to spend with their children at home; for many parents working full time is required to take care of their children and provide a home, thus finding alternate care that  fosters a home environment is essential. We thus want to provide that ‘home’ environment.

Our Daycare Home

Our concept of a home environment includes eating meals at the ‘kitchen’ table, playing not only in a dedicated playroom; but also the family room.  We also feel making the children feel ‘part of our family’ provides a loving environment and promotes social skills in the children.  Also, as with many families children socialize with children of all age groups, not just their own. This is beneficial as younger ones learn skills older ones have mastered, and older ones learn how to nurture younger ones.

IS CHILD CARE PROVIDED?

We know that the conference experience is very different if you are a parent of young children. We will offer something like a children’s area, but it will not be a place where you can leave your child unattended. The logistics of looking after children at a conference of this magnitude are quite complex. Many suggested joining with other families or couples and using this team approach to give some parents access to classes and other activities. We will have more discussions on this topic in the coming months. We may also have a “crowded” room where shared activities are streamed live to create a more comfortable area for parents and young children. But at this stage, it is likely that each family will have to organize their own childcare and come up with a strategy for dealing with children. We will try to work with you to provide some opportunities to make it memorable and fruitful. nine0003

DO I NEED TO REGISTER? CAN I JUST GO TO THE INTERVIEW AND GO TO THE GENERAL SESSIONS OR EVEN JUST COME ON SUNDAY?

Yes, everyone present must register, including children. For security reasons, all general sessions, classes and other content will be closed to the public and available only to registered conference participants. We are in a completely different world now, and safety in public places is paramount. We know that usually Sunday morning is open to the public. We also discuss this because students love to share their faith on the go and invite others to the conference. Again, perhaps we will use the extra room for unregistered participants only on Sunday. It is also likely that West Hall A at the OCCC, used for general sessions, will in any case have enough seats for registered participants, again requiring overcrowded facilities. We hope you appreciate the magnitude of thought and consideration that goes into these decisions. We sincerely hope to organize a conference that you all want to participate to the fullest, register and attend. But we want to respect the safety and security of those who have registered to participate. nine0003

CAN I BOOK A PLACE FOR A MEETING?

YES!! Private appointments, dinners, appointments, etc. can be reserved at a price depending on different needs, as well as on a first-come, first-served basis. The seat reservation site is operated by Conference Direct and can be scheduled using this website.: HERE

CAN I JUST STAY WITH OTHER STUDENTS IN ORLANDO OR NEARBY CITIES? nine0120

We respectfully ask you not to ask to stay with other students, and we will encourage our members in Orlando and neighboring cities to also stay ON THE POINT. We don’t want to sound insensitive to those trying to attend the conference on a budget, but we encourage you to do your best to save money and stay close. Conference participation, while exciting and faith-building, is also physically draining. Take your Fitbit with you, because even if you stay nearby, you will definitely make your 10,000 steps, maybe before lunch! The city is very scattered and travel to the conference, parking and trying to get to classes, and general activities will be exacerbated if you stay off site. And remember, Orlando gets very hot, humid, and often has daytime thunderstorms in July. So the more you are at the center of the OCCC, the better. So while you may be hoping to save some money by staying off the court, we sincerely recommend that you stay as close to the action as possible. We have tried to allocate a sufficient number of rooms for us near the conference center so that you can get the most out of the conference. nine0003

CAN I BOOK A FLIGHT?

You can book flights now, some airlines have sales up to 150 days (5 or 6 months) before departure. Orlando Airport (MCO) has many direct flights from all over North America and the Caribbean, as well as many other direct flights from overseas. Some international travelers may find that changing via Miami (Fort Lauderdale) is the cheaper and better option, but keep in mind that this is approx. 3 hours drive to Orlando. nine0003

CAN I BOOK A HOTEL? WHAT IF I NEED TO CHANGE THE BOOKING? HOW MUCH DOES PARKING AT HOTELS COST?

Yes! When you check in, you will receive a link to book a hotel room. We made serious discounts with the hotel and waived resort fees.

If you need to change your booking, please EMAIL or call the number on your hotel confirmation email.

The Orange County Convention Center has parking. nine0007

Daycares in Germantown MD – CareLuLu

About Daycares in Germantown MD

Germantown is the third most populous city in Maryland, next to Baltimore and Columbia, with a population of almost 100,000 residents. The city is located 25 miles from Washington, DC and earns a median household income of $86,470. The average tuition rate for an infant is $235 per week in homes daycares ($12,220/year) and $350 per week child care centers ($18,200/year). For preschoolers, the average price for full time care is $190 per week in home-based preschools ($just below $10,000/year) and $275 per week in center-based programs ($14,300/year). As you can see, family child care programs are on average more than 40% less expensive than centers, one of the reasons why many parents will favor those programs. To find out the average cost of daycare in your zip code, click here to use our daycare cost calculator.
Germantown is a lively, highly populated town, ideal for those who work in the nation’s capital but prefer to live and raise their family in a quieter and slower-paced community. Home to 160 licensed child care facilities (122 home-based programs and 38 centers), parents have many options when looking for an early education program. There are 32 peanut-free daycares and 45 special needs child care facilities which offer care for children with allergies and disabilities, respectively. Three faith-based facilities can service families who intend to raise children in a religious environment and 19 daycares in Germantown provide transportation services for drop-offs and pick-ups. Eligible working families who need financial assistance to pay for the child care tuition fees may apply for the Child Care Scholarship Program through the Child Care Subsidy Central (CCS Central). Quality early education programs are within reach for children from low-income families who may enroll in any of the 46 child care facilities accepting subsidy vouchers.
In Germantown, child care providers must observe Maryland state child care regulations. The MD State Department of Education’s Office of Child Care (MSDE OCC) mandates child care centers and family child care homes who care for one or more children unrelated to the caregiver. The owner, staff, substitutes, and residents within the premises of licensed facilities undergo a complete medical evaluation (including tuberculosis screening), signed by a certified medical practitioner. They must also pass Federal and State criminal background checks (for people 14 years old or older) at a designated office in the State. They also submit signed and notarized release forms to authorize OCC to investigate records of abuse and neglect. As far as the facility itself, a child care license requires proof of compliance with State and local fire, health and zoning rules. Caregivers also have training in First Aid, CPR, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), if caring for children younger than two years old. Other required training includes six Core Knowledge competencies, emergency and disaster planning, Medication Administration Training (MAT) and other approved courses in early education.

Employer Review Sites | PeopleScout

An organization’s employer brand is often in the hands of its candidates and employees. And, when it comes to employer review sites, the fate of your employer brand is – quite literally – at their fingertips. In fact, according to data from Workplace Trends, 72% of job-seekers share their experience on online employer review sites like Glassdoor. What’s more, recent research from Deloitte found that 80% of candidates who experience an unsatisfactory recruitment process will openly tell people about their experience, and one-third of those candidates will do so proactively.

But, what does this mean for your organization? Unfortunately, negative reviews from both candidates and employees can have a huge influence on your bottom line. For example, per CareerArc, 62% of consumers have stopped buying from an organization that treats its employees poorly. Plus, an Indeed survey found that 95% of workers said that if they were considering a new job opportunity, insight into the company’s employer reputation would be somewhat (33%) or extremely (62%) important. As a result, a poor employer brand reputation could cost your organization millions as productivity decreases due to a reduced candidate pool and consumers stop supporting your business.

So, how can organizations take control of their employer brand and overall online reputation? Well, recent studies from HRO Today and PeopleScout show that organizations globally are planning to invest more heavily in social networking, consistent monitoring of employer review sites, and a greater use of employees as brand advocates.

However, while these steps are important to improve your employer brand, many organizations are unsure of where to start; they may also lack knowledge of best practices for these strategies.

Therefore, in this article, we’ll help you improve your employer brand by outlining how to establish ownership of your organization’s presence on employer review sites like Glassdoor and Indeed; offer best practices for responding to reviews; share tips on how to effectively leverage employee brand advocates; and highlight some popular employer review sites that organizations should be familiar with.

Establish Ownership & Claim Your Employer Review Site Profiles

The first step in establishing an employer brand plan for review sites is to establish who in your organization will own the initiative. Specifically, it may make sense to have your HR team manage the employer review site accounts because they are likely familiar with sites like Indeed and Glassdoor that offer job-posting functionality, in addition to candidate and employee reviews.

However, it can also be beneficial to form partnerships across departments to holistically manage your organization’s employer brand. For example, your communications team can assist HR in crafting responses to reviews that align with your brand standards for tone and voice, as well as provide up-to-date information on awards and accolades. In addition, HR can lean on the marketing team to maintain an active social media presence for your company, as well as work to optimize search results by managing SEO and creating content to combat potentially negative reviews and keywords.

After establishing who will take ownership of the management of employer review sites, claim your profiles. This can be done at no cost by verifying the profile as an employer and creating an employer account to edit and manage the profile.

Plus, with an employer account, you can add valuable information to your profile for candidates to view, such as:

  • Salary and compensation details
  • Explanation of benefits offerings
  • Company mission, vision and values
  • Overview of company culture
  • Logistical information (location, total number of employees, revenue, competitors, etc.)
  • Unique initiatives
  • Remote and flexible work policies
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion programs
  • Photos of employees, events and offices
  • Industry awards and accolades

It’s worth noting that, according to Glassdoor, 75% of active job-seekers are likely to apply to a job if the employer actively manages its employer brand. You can do this by responding to reviews, updating your business profile, and sharing updates on the culture and work environment. Furthermore, building a robust profile on the employer review site will allow candidates to gain a better understanding of who your company is, what you stand for and what it would be like to work for you.

Respond to Reviews – Both Positive & Negative

Responding to reviews is perhaps the most important method in creating a strong brand presence on employer review sites. And, while both types of reviews can be easy to view and dismiss, leaving thoughtful replies is a guaranteed way to show candidates and employees that you care – regardless of whether the feedback is positive or negative. In fact, 80% of job-seekers who read reviews on Glassdoor say their perception of a company improves after seeing an employer respond to a review.

Some best practices to keep in mind when responding to reviews:

  • Address the reviewer by name (for non-anonymous reviews) to establish a personal connection
  • Thank the reviewer for their feedback
  • Acknowledge positive feedback
  • Address any concerns mentioned
  • Offer advice on any relevant next steps

Here are some examples of how to reply to common types of reviews:

Leverage Employee Brand Advocates

While organizations have little control over who will leave reviews – especially reviews with primarily negative feedback – they can proactively build up a strong body of positive reviews by leveraging employee brand advocates. These are employees who advocate for an organization and generate a positive image of the brand via online and offline channels. It’s important to note here that, when encouraging employees to leave reviews, you should emphasize the value of honest, candid reviews; employees should not feel pressured to paint a certain image of your organization.

Consider the following ideas to encourage employees to leave truthful, positive reviews that will help improve your employer brand:

New Hires

New hires are a great place to start when gathering positive reviews. That’s because the application, interviewing, and onboarding process is still fresh in their minds and they recently chose your organization as their new employer. So, ask new hires to leave a review on their hiring experience when they first start, and encourage them to update it after their first 90 days.

HR, PR & Marketing

Another good place to start is by requesting that members of your HR and marketing teams write reviews. Members of these departments already have a good understanding of the importance of employer review sites and are likely willing to leave honest reviews that highlight your organization’s strong points.

Promoted & Awarded Employees

If your organization recognizes employees for outstanding work with awards or honors, these workers can also be an excellent source of positive reviews. The same can be said for employees who have recently been promoted. A good practice is to establish a system that reaches out to these employees with a congratulatory message alongside a call to action to post online about their experience working at your company.

Employee Resource Groups

Employees who voluntarily join employee resource groups in addition to their daily responsibilities are already likely to be highly engaged within your organization. So, tap into these groups of employees and request that they leave reviews based on your organization’s culture and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion – something Glassdoor provides ratings on and many candidates are interested in.

Regular Requests

Finally, managers should be empowered to regularly encourage their team members to leave reviews. This can become a regular practice during performance meetings, as well as after the completion of a big project or when hiring season is afoot. Likewise, if your organization offers flexible work arrangements or other unique perks, employees should be encouraged to share emotive experiences of how these benefits have affected their lives.

Employer Review Sites to Consider

Because there are a variety of employer review sites out there, it can be hard to keep track of them all. So, we compiled this list of the top 10 you should monitor to improve your employer brand for long-term success.

  • Glassdoor: Current and former employees can anonymously review companies; submit and view salaries; as well as search and apply for jobs.
  • Indeed: Candidates can upload a résumé and browse reviews and salaries, while employers can post jobs, search résumés and more.
  • Comparably: Includes information on employers, brands, salaries and company culture.
  • FairyGodBoss: Women’s career community for career advice, job openings and company reviews.
  • Kununu: Employer reviews, salary data and culture reviews from those who know best: employees and applicants.
  • Google Reviews: Business reviews appear next to your company’s listing in Maps and Search. These can help your business stand out on Google, which is the leading search engine.
  • InHerSight: Here, candidates can find company reviews and ratings; get matched to jobs; and connect with a community of women navigating the workplace.
  • Vault: Known for its influential rankings, ratings, and reviews on thousands of top employers and hundreds of internship programs.
  • CareerBliss: Candidates can find jobs, research salaries and read reviews with a focus on company culture.
  • TheJobCrowd: This UK-based employer review site is focused on helping recent graduates in their early careers.

As recruitment processes and the world of work continue to take digital shifts, employer review sites will become increasingly important in making or breaking a candidate’s decision to join your organization. And, while you certainly can’t control every review, you can be proactive in taking charge of your employer review site presence by regularly responding to reviews, leveraging employee advocates, and monitoring what candidates and employees are saying about your organization online. In doing so, you’ll improve your employer brand by creating a strong employer brand and a positive presence where it counts – and where it makes a difference.

the nature and meaninglessness of anonymous reviews / Sudo Null IT News This is a real garbage dump of negative emotions, which, by the will of fate, I first plunged into quite recently. Intuition suggested that there should be reviews only from storekeepers, and fast food employees – i.e. from positions where the entry threshold is low and staff turnover is high. Imagine my surprise when I found a lot of slop thrown at IT companies, including those where half of the industry wants to work! Really in the market where the logic rules, this dirt is quoted?

I am a manual testing specialist with many years of experience. I don’t want to name my employer, since we will not talk about him specifically, but about the industry as a whole. But it was the company profile on one of the review sites that prompted me to reach out to the community with this text (and questions at the end).

I am generally satisfied with the working conditions. My colleagues and I have been working on an interesting project for a couple of years now, we are paid the promised salary on time, everything is fair with taxes. As in any team, there are mutual misunderstandings, but they are resolved in working order. In the worst case, someone will yell at someone, but calm down. The situation suits me so much that I recently decided to recommend a vacancy in the same company to a good friend. What was my surprise when he, studying the Internet for reviews of a potential employer (apparently to complete the picture that I described), found whole buckets of slops addressed not only to the company, but also to its leaders personally, in my opinion, quite adequate. Tellingly, these buckets were found on the site of anonymous reviews – you see, the unknown author or authors were afraid to leave their name under the above. And where registration is required to publish a review, everything is fine with the reputation of the company.

The number of people who said goodbye to the company during my time here can be counted on the fingers. And only a couple of them left with a scandal. You don’t have to be a detective here to make assumptions. But it is impossible to say for certain that this is one of them. Maybe it’s the intrigues of competitors, or so some candidate who did not pass the interview was noted? Or a bot, why not? There may be many options, but suspicion primarily falls on former employees. Apparently, this is how our brain works. True, when I talked with them personally, I could not even think that they were capable of expressing their emotions “from under the floor” like that. Not only is it anonymous, but also complete nonsense.

I’m not so “employer-oriented” as to be eager to argue and whitewash the company in the said cesspools. But it became a shame for the team, because they also walked through it in the recall, although they did not name names. And I got to figure it out – what is it, who even reads it and why anonymous reviews have a non-zero impact?

Resource motivation

To be honest, I myself did not particularly look at the reviews on the Internet when applying for a job. Much more information can be obtained from existing employees – during the interview. And in the reviews initially expect more negative. It is well known that negative experiences are described more often.

Data on reviews in general – not only for employers, but also for goods / services, source

As I began to dig, a whole universe of negativity opened up to me, which someone is probably studying.
The resources that collect this negative report proudly about the truth of employees, which is posted on their pages, ignoring the fact that an anonymous review can be left by anyone, not just an employee. And in practice, in the search, along with the sites themselves, ads are easily found offering to remove negative from them for money. Even for life.

A fragment of a screenshot of the first page of Google

An interesting model of work turns out: you spread negativity, and then you easily prove to the company that its “reputation in the labor market” has been damaged (read: normal people will not go to work here), so we need to urgently invest in its restoration.

How true these announcements are is a separate discussion. But in general, this whole system with reviews seems to “feed” a whole army of companies that supposedly work professionally with a reputation. They don’t even need to have any connection with review sites. To run a successful business, it’s enough just to promote the idea through PR that the negative needs to be handled appropriately, and they are ready to help here. No, there are probably normal tools for working with reputation, but, you see, in connection with anonymous reviews, all this looks very doubtful.

Imaginary anonymity

The degree of anonymity of the reviewer strongly depends on the size of the company.
If this is a conditional Google with offices in different cities and countries, a bunch of departments and a huge staff flow, the author of the review has a good chance of remaining unrecognized.
But if, like ours, you have enough fingers on your hands to count the employees who no longer work for the company, then by specifying the details in the review, it is quite possible to establish exactly who wrote it, even if he did not bother to sign. And the mentions of small companies on such sites are the majority.

In general, anonymity is somehow “one-sided”. Each review contains quite reliable names of the company, and often the full name of the guilty (from the point of view of the author of the review) employees, but not the data of the “accuser”. The resources themselves explain this contradiction by the fact that the authors of the reviews want to feel safe. However, this smacks of banal deception – the desire to lure a larger audience through dirt and false promises. More audience – more attention to the site, more noise, which means even more visitors. And it’s more likely that there will be someone willing to pay for the removal of the review, isn’t it?

By the way, about three years ago on Habré there was an analysis of such sites with proof that they are optimized for issuance in the search for the company name in the same Google, first of all, precisely the negative.

Anonymity also allows you to “hide your ends in the water”. You can write any implausible dirt, but a claim for the protection of business reputation from the company or the employee mentioned does not threaten either the site or the author of the text. Here you can’t even enter into a dialogue – there is simply no one with whom (technically there is an option to protect business reputation in court in this case too, but there we are talking about special proceedings – here you need to go to lawyers for advice).

In general, to get a full impression of a situation, you always want to listen to the other side of the conflict. In the format of an open dialogue with positions indicated, this would be more informative. Here we see an outpouring of the subjective, which is very reminiscent of the behavior of a cowardly schoolboy: he put the feces in a bag, set it on fire, threw it under the door and ran away so that no one would guess who did it.

It is curious that an attempt to create a mirror situation – a site for companies with reviews about employees indicating their personal data – is punishable by a whole list of laws. It turns out that the legal entity and employees who are still working in it cannot protect themselves from the dismissed?

Motivation of authors

To be honest, while researching the issue, I myself immersed myself in reading reviews in companies in my region. The general impression is that for the most part there are only emotions and a minimum of facts.
There is a separate “cauldron” for companies that do not pay the promised money, but here, in my opinion, the employees themselves are often to blame – initially you don’t have to agree to “gray” conditions, no matter what pretty personnel officers tell you. There are several legal and legitimate schemes of interaction with a legal entity (TC, copyright agreement, IP, etc.), each of which is applicable in its own situation. And in order not to be deceived, you just need to understand how they differ from each other.

If the feedback does not concern money, then it often turns into personalities. And here, in many cases, according to the description of the situation, it is clear that the problem is not so much in the company, but in the inability of the employee to control his emotions, to approach the problem from the right side, etc. This is especially noticeable to those who at least occasionally work with subordinates. I believe that a large proportion of the dissatisfied are from those who did not cope with their work and were dismissed fairly. And such a “review”, sent anonymously, allows you to take revenge on the employer for the “unfair dismissal”.

Was there an author?

I did not notice any information on any site with anonymous reviews that the reliability of these facts is being verified by someone. In the case of my employer, the facts presented in the recall alluded to a very specific employee. But where did he get all these details from? And was it really him? There is about a third of the truth. And who is the judge here? There seems to be nothing stopping you from writing a negative review about a company you’ve never worked for at all. Or launch a bot that will scribble such opuses on all the companies that come across?

It seems to me that if these reviewers really pursued some “lofty goals” about putting things in order on the labor market, they would require users to register with real, or at least passport, data and check the information – at least the basic facts ( worked from such to such, fired under the article), but simply would not show the data to employers and other visitors.

Curiously, the same sites are full of companies with a supposedly perfect reputation. This is what I have the most questions about. Is this possible: organizations with the highest ratings on sites with non-anonymous reviews have one to two points, while some little-known individual entrepreneurs, pawnshops and clinics of obscure medicine from the regions have only the highest rating? And I’m not the only one who is so distrustful … People in general do not believe in ideals.

Most trusted review score by readers, source)

What I think as a review consumer

In general, I am offended that they went through my team like that.

An acquaintance will still send his resume, but for this, in a conversation with him, I acted as a “seller” of the employer – I explained the situation to him as it looks from my side. Tellingly, my review had more weight, since we have known each other for several days. And following my example, he plans to ask questions during the interview…

To be honest, I would like to see the same thing in feedback about employers on career resources: any positive or negative must be signed by a specific employee indicating the position in which he worked. I may be stoned for this, but I tend to believe that senior developers who have worked for several years in one company are more trustworthy than junior developers who have not passed their probationary period in it. And I want to be able to contact the author of the review in order to get the details of interest, and at the same time make sure that this is a current or former employee, and not a sent “cossack” or a bot.

Sites with anonymous reviews should disappear or cease to be anonymous in order not to lose a niche in the market. And at the moment it is completely discredited garbage dumps. I doubt that a reasonable person would write a review there or look for useful information.

What do you think?

  1. Do you trust anonymous employer reviews? (yes/no)
  2. Would your opinion about the employer be improved if any negative response was received by the company or its current employees, as “reputation managers” advise? (yes/no)

If you believe me, please explain why in the comments.

Have fun with letters, numbers, and shapes using these educational activities for toddlers.

By
Marisa LaScala

planningplaytime

Just because your toddler isn’t in elementary school yet, it doesn’t mean their path to learning hasn’t started. Encourage them to experiment with the concepts behind math, reading, science — even engineering and social studies — with these fun, at-home learning activities for toddlers and preschoolers, most of which can be done with items that you’ve pulled from around the house (which makes them easy to enjoy any time there’s an unexpected rainy day and you need some fun indoor activities for the kids). Pretty soon, they’ll be counting, reciting their letters, and sorting their toys by color or shape. After that … the world is theirs!

A word of caution though: Even though toddlers and preschoolers seem so big compared to the babies they once were, they still have no common sense at all, so any activity still has to be closely supervised. This is especially true for counting activities or projects that involve small pieces, which may present choking hazards, or anything involving water, which could be a drowning risk (even if it’s just a small bucket of water). But with you guiding them through, they’ll love these projects so much, the’ll forget all about those buzzing, blinking toys in the toy bin.

Water Walking Experiment

Fun Learning for Kids

A super-easy way to bring a bit of the science lab home, the “water walking” experiment illuminates two concepts: First, the water “walks” over the paper towel bridges (demonstrating capillarity), and then the colors mix to make new ones (the yellow water and the blue water “walk” into the same cup to make green). All you need is cups, food coloring, and paper towels.

Teaching Toddlers Good Food Habits | Patient Education

Patient Education A-Z

Toddlers don’t need to gain much weight from age 1 to 3, and therefore don’t need to eat very much. Your toddler may become a picky eater, and you may worry that he or she is not eating enough. Remember, this is a normal, healthy response to your child’s decreased energy needs.

However, toddlers continue to learn many new things during mealtimes: how to hold utensils and cups and feed themselves, the taste and texture of new foods and how to decide when they are hungry or full.

As the parent, you are only responsible for deciding which foods to offer your child. Your child should be allowed to decide what to eat, how much — and even whether or not to eat. Mealtimes should be enjoyable for everyone. Do not force a child to eat or to try a food he or she is refusing.

Introducing New Foods

  • Take advantage of the fact that 1-year-olds enjoy putting everything in their mouths. Use this year to offer many new, varied foods. By age 2, most children are reluctant to try new foods.
  • Serve foods with a variety of colors, textures, flavors and temperatures. This helps provide good nutrition.
  • When introducing a new food, offer only a small amount the first time.
  • Do not give your toddler foods that are too hard, tough or sticky.
  • Be careful when adding seasonings. It is rarely necessary to add salt.
  • Avoid sweets such as candies and cookies, as they may dull the appetite for more nutritious food.

Making Mealtimes Pleasant

  • Provide a pleasant mealtime atmosphere. Try to avoid disciplining your child during meals.
  • Use plastic or other non-breakable dishes and utensils.
  • Adjust the seat so your toddler can easily reach his or her plate.
  • Expect your toddler to be messy. You can place a plastic sheet underneath the table to help with clean-up.
  • Limit distractions at mealtime, and turn off the TV.

Developing Healthy Attitudes

  • Don’t force your child to eat food he or she truly dislikes.
  • Offer small amounts of food at a time. Large amounts of food on the plate may discourage your toddler from trying new foods.
  • Don’t offer rewards for eating. Toddlers should eat because they enjoy it and are hungry.
  • Don’t discuss your family’s food likes and dislikes in front of your toddler. Let children decide for themselves what they like.
  • Encourage your toddler to eat meals with the family.
  • Eat a variety of healthy foods and demonstrate good table manners — toddlers learn by imitating parents.
  • Allow your toddler to feed him or herself as much as possible.
  • Encourage outdoor activities. Your child will have a better appetite, and will also use calcium better to make stronger bones.

Nutrition

Calories

Children regulate their food intake and eat the amount of calories they need, if the parent offers healthy foods. You do not need to count calories to know your child is eating properly.

Toddlers can get the nutrients and calories they need from a vegetarian diet, but it requires careful attention to the types of foods you provide, and it’s usually best to supplement with a vitamin. Please talk to your child’s doctor if you choose to feed your toddler a vegan diet. Dairy products and eggs can help provide needed protein and calcium.

Fat

Children’s brains continue to grow during the second and third years of life. Since fat helps nerves develop, do not limit the amount of fat in your child’s diet. After age 3, it is appropriate to limit your child’s fat intake.

Iron

Toddlers often become iron deficient and anemic. Iron is extremely important for brain development, and toddlers who are iron deficient may have more difficulty learning.

The best sources of iron are found in red meat, and this form of iron is more easily absorbed by the body. Iron-fortified infant cereal is also a great iron source. If you can, add infant cereal to your toddler’s foods — for instance, mixing the cereal into yogurt — for as long as possible. Small amounts of iron are also found in eggs, spinach, fortified breads, beans and sardines.

Calcium

Dairy products (cheese, cottage cheese, milk, yogurt) and eggs are the best sources of calcium. Calcium-fortified orange juice, broccoli, sardines and tofu also contain calcium. Your child needs about 500 mg of calcium a day.

Juice and Milk

Your child should not drink more than 4 ounces of juice a day. During the second year of life, toddlers don’t need to drink milk. However, they do need some of the nutrients that milk provides, including protein, calcium and fat. These nutrients can be obtained from other foods.

Toddlers who drink milk should drink whole milk. Try to limit your child to about 12 to 16 ounces a day, so he or she will be hungry for other, more nutritious foods. At age 2, your child can switch to low-fat milk. Nursing toddlers don’t need additional milk.

Vitamin Supplements

Toddlers’ diets are nearly always lacking in iron, calcium, zinc and vitamins. Consider giving your child a chewable multivitamin with iron as soon as he or she can chew one. Other sources of these vitamins and minerals include toddler formulas, Carnation Instant Breakfast and liquid vitamins. Please talk with your child’s pediatrician about choosing a supplement for your child.

Why is additional education needed for schoolchildren?

Main page / Why additional education is needed for children

Continued article “This is why additional education is needed”.

The development of society imperceptibly led to the fact that traditional approaches to education and training cease to work. The child changes along with the surrounding reality and the pedagogical methods of involving him in learning that have been tested for many decades cease to act on him, and the school has not proposed a new approach to organizing the involvement of the child in the educational process. nine0003

“Education is not only a matter of school. The school gives only the keys to this education. Out-of-school education is the whole life! A person must educate himself throughout his life.

A.V. Lunacharsky, First People’s Commissar of Education of the RSFSR

Integration of school and additional education helps to combine the mental abilities of the student and his creative interests, forming the foundation for the individual development of the child.

The school provides basic knowledge that will be useful to a person in adulthood, regardless of his future profession and social status. However, even an experienced teacher is not able to provide an individual approach to each of the 30 students, and therefore the educational process is forced to focus on the average, impersonal composition of the class. nine6% of respondents in large cities, in medium and small – 93%, and in villages – up to 85%.

Additional education objectively has the ability to combine the education, upbringing and development of the child into a single process.

The site offers two complementary options for choosing a particular program of additional education based on the current interests of the child or taking into account the ultimate goal of obtaining school education.

The offered programs can be mastered by a child in one of the 6 educational buildings (branches) of the Academy of Continuing Professional Education – in the nearest place to their place of residence. nine0003

Models for organizing additional education

Currently, two main models are widespread: – not united in a common structure. It is typical for most general education schools, where classes are conducted by their own subject teachers on the existing material base; nine0003

Educational complexes harmoniously combining general and additional education for children. They are located in specialized premises, classes are conducted by specialists with specialized thematic education and additional pedagogical training, modern teaching methods and technical base are used. This model underlies the activities of our Academy.

The presence of these models is the explanation for the existence of two approaches of parents to the procedure for choosing specific programs for the development of the child:

  • on the desire to satisfy his current interests and requests;
  • reconcile the best interests of the child with the ultimate goal of schooling.

Additional education solves educational problems

In the process of implementing additional educational programs, a number of complex educational tasks are solved unobtrusively, without notations and moralizing:

  • in front of himself, but also in front of the members of the whole team; nine0046
  • the child’s employment outside of school forms his discipline, organization and self-control, helps to increase his own status in the eyes of his peers;
  • makes children feel the importance of studying at school, encourages them to be more responsible in their studies, contributes to the deepening and implementation of the knowledge that they receive in the classroom;
  • provides psychological and social comfort for children, creates a “success situation” for each student, builds relationships between students; nine0046
  • instills a culture of communication, the ability not only to carry on a conversation, but also to adequately perceive healthy criticism;
  • promotes the socialization of children and adolescents, the prevention of antisocial behavior.

Mistakes of parents when organizing additional education

A wide range of possible areas and programs of additional education leads to a situation where parents lose their sense of proportion, a sense of the golden mean and cannot rationally distribute the child’s free time. nine0003

The enthusiasm and initial motivation of the child from new friends and girlfriends, interesting developmental and career-guidance activities over time in children is replaced by complete indifference and lack of desire to learn, problems begin to arise with school performance.

Here are three main reasons that, in the pursuit of parents to raise an ideal person, lead the child to “burnout”:

“Every child should be applied his own standard, prompted to his own duty and rewarded with his own well-deserved praise. Not success, but effort deserves a reward. nine0003

J. Ruskin, British school reformer

  • overloaded child and lack of free time for sports and walks, spending time with friends or reading an interesting book. Extra classes should not adversely affect school performance. Parents should decide and choose a priority direction for organizing leisure activities, abandon some of the secondary activities that may need to be transferred to another period of the child’s development; nine0046
  • unsystematic classes . It is quite possible that they initially chose the direction of additional education not very successfully, and the child eventually ceases to like classes: he attends them “for show” and not regularly, does not always do homework and does not receive praise from the teacher, because does not show the expected results;
  • lack of parental interest . The child must see and understand that his activities are important for parents, his successes and achievements outside of school certainly please them. They often communicate with teachers of additional classes, are interested in the results, and attend specialized master classes together with pleasure on weekends. nine0046

School prepares children for a life that does not exist

International educational company YaClass and Skolkovo in August 2021 conducted a survey among 2113 domestic teachers about the quality of school education.

a) Results of the survey on the role of the school:

  • 71% of school teachers consider the system of school education to be outdated, which does not meet the requirements of students – does not prepare children for real life, of which 16% said that school knowledge is not at all applicable in the future life outside the educational institution; nine0046
  • 29% of respondents believe that school prepares them for life in modern society.

b) Teachers’ answers about the functional purpose of the school:

  • 37% named teaching children;
  • 34% preparing the child for a future life outside of school;
  • 16% education and inculcation of moral values;
  • 9% socialization of schoolchildren;
  • 4% preparation for admission to universities and colleges.

c) Among the main disadvantages of the educational process, teachers indicated:

  • 17% excessive teaching load on schoolchildren;
  • 10% lack of practice of personalizing the training program to the needs of students;
  • 10% school is not focused on teaching the skills necessary in the modern world.

An analysis of the results of a survey of teachers who actually participate in teaching children and see from the inside the hidden and obvious shortcomings of the school education system leads to the conclusion about the need and direction for using the system of additional education for schoolchildren. nine0003
