Poll of the week: How will Turkey change after the terrible earthquake?

The main world event this week was a terrible earthquake that claimed thousands of lives, the epicenter of which fell on the southeast of Turkey. Will the country give up an active foreign policy, taking up domestic problems that the current tragedy has exposed? And will President Recep Tayyip Erdogan be able to retain power in the upcoming May 14 elections under these conditions? BUSINESS Online is answered by Sergey Markov, Valentin Katasonov, Semyon Bagdasarov, Marat Bashirov and others

Valentin Katasonov
economist

– As for conspiracy theories about artificially starting an earthquake. .. When I heard about this, it was the first thing that came to my mind. The fact is that in Soviet times, in the 70s, I dealt with issues of geophysical weapons. It turned out that I was engaged in ecology, and where ecology is, there are geophysical weapons nearby. Even then, there were experiments to provoke earthquakes. Naturally, for several decades I have not been interested in this topic. And I just called my friends who are still doing it. They consider this version unlikely and almost fantastic. So I can neither confirm nor deny here. My friends say that, in principle, of course, it would be possible to create such an earthquake. But the preparatory work for this operation would require very high costs, and most importantly, they could not be camouflaged. This and some drilling work… I don’t really understand it, but, in general, they couldn’t help but notice in Turkey the preparation of such a very serious special operation.

I have acquaintances in Turkey, I contacted them. Erdogan says that, in principle, the damage is not outrageous and they expect to compensate and eliminate the consequences of the earthquake in a fairly short time. So the mood in Turkey is a little different from how the public consciousness is formed outside of this country. That is, after all, in Turkey they are relatively more relaxed about this. Yes, this is a tragedy, but there is a suspicion that some media are “driving the wave.” But the situation around Turkey in general is very difficult. In Washington, in the US Congress, they even say: how long can Erdogan’s willfulness be tolerated, isn’t it time to impose some kind of sanctions against Turkey?

In general, the situation in Turkey is, of course, tense. But there is one more point that the Russian media for some reason does not convey. I visit Turkey every year and feel this moment. Erdogan, unlike many other statesmen, does not rely on big capital, but still on the people. To put it more clearly, it relies more on employees than on employers. The latter are a maximum of 2 percent of the population of Turkey, and employees are all the rest. So employees today feel socially protected. I will even say such a thing that, for example, the salary of a doctor in Turkey is 2 thousand dollars, how many people in Russia receive the same amount? A teacher in Turkey has a minimum salary of 1.9thousand dollars a month. Compare with Russia.

I want to say that Erdogan annoys many people both outside and inside. We are discussing just the earthquake factor, but there are many others that are no less significant for Turkey, but which simply fall out of the view of journalists and the media. And so, in general, I wanted to say that, of course, the earthquake is not the decisive factor that will determine the future of Turkey and Erdogan.

Sergey Markov
political scientist

“There are colossal internal problems in Turkey: there are already several tens of thousands of dead, about 5-6 thousand houses have been destroyed. Therefore, today the country will have to concentrate all its efforts on internal development and elimination of the consequences of the earthquake. In addition, there are very important elections in May, the results of which will completely depend on how the authorities cope with the consequences of current events.

Erdogan is in big trouble, earlier many believed that he would be forced to pursue an active foreign policy in order to win the elections. Many assumed, for example, a possible war with Greece in the Aegean Sea. But now it is clear that all these probabilities are fading into the past and will become impossible. All attention will be focused on eliminating the consequences of this terrible earthquake. I think that the situation will not be completely resolved before the elections, but the opposition and the population will categorically oppose the postponement of the elections. That is, it will still be necessary to deal with the aftermath, but everything urgent will be resolved by May. Also, Turkey’s participation in the negotiation processes on Ukraine will not decrease, since the country does not require large resources for this.

Semyon Bagdasarov
Director of the Center for the Study of the Middle East and Central Asia

– After such an earthquake, on the eve of the elections in Turkey, they will focus on domestic politics. External issues will not be forgotten either, but they will be dealt with to a lesser extent. I think that due to the situation, the elections have been moved – May 14 clearly does not fit in with the current situation. Most likely, the presidential elections in Turkey will be held in the summer – in June – July. If we evaluate Turkey’s participation in the negotiations on Ukraine: earlier, Turkey only increased the supply of weapons, but now Erdogan will not be up to it. Moreover, they are very dissatisfied. Many state-owned companies associated with construction accuse him of corruption and so on.

Marat Bashirov
political scientist, author of the Politjoystick telegram channel

— I think that Erdogan will focus on the domestic agenda. What is happening in Turkey now is a huge tragedy. Erdogan is an experienced politician, he behaves like the president of the country, responsible for his citizens. What happened there a few days ago is not related to what kind of policy he led, it is a natural disaster. But in the end, Erdogan, as an experienced politician, will be able to implement the action plan that will be recognized by the citizens of this country as adequate to the events. And there are always questions from the population to the authorities. It’s all about how the authorities react to them. It seems to me that Erdogan reacts quite adequately.

Stanislav Tarasov
Middle East and Caucasus expert

– I want to note that Turkey is adapted to this kind of tectonic shocks, because this country is located in a seismically dangerous zone. And such large-scale earthquakes, like the last one, often occur in Turkey, the government has a well-established methodology for dealing with extreme situations. Now, judging by what is happening, the government is acting quite effectively in the implementation of rescue operations. Turkey accepted aid 95 countries of the world that have provided assistance to it, which undoubtedly testifies to the role of Turkey, which is headed by Erdogan. This is the first.

The second is that the earthquake occurred on the eve of the presidential elections, which are scheduled for May 14, and certain moods among the electorate are quite possible. Moreover, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the region where the Kurds traditionally live, who have difficult relations with the central government. But the thing is that Erdogan allocated certain funds for the development of this region. Another thing is that this region of Turkey was not considered seismically dangerous. Like Istanbul for example. But actions when the Turkish government is undertaking reconstruction work generally strengthen the nation, which gives Erdogan a chance to act as such a leader, the savior of the nation. Which generally strengthens his chances. Another thing is that mourning will end on February 13, the leader of the opposition is now in the disaster zone. As always after an earthquake, criticism is intensifying in Turkey that poor construction is being carried out, low-quality technologies are being used, and so on. Moreover, the ruling party in this election campaign has raised the issue of building social housing as the number one problem. Yes, a certain blow, damage to Erdogan’s reputation can be dealt from this side. But “knocking him off the horse” will no longer be possible. By all indications, Erdogan will retain his positions.

Nikolai Kulbaka
economist, financial analyst, associate professor at RANEPA

– I would not talk about Turkey’s active participation in foreign policy at all, this country, in any case, first of all solves its internal problems with the help of foreign policy. I suspect that for some time after the earthquake, Turkey will begin to solve internal problems, purely economic ones, but this will not be very long. The volume of destruction that now exists, despite the huge number of victims, will still have very little impact on the Turkish economy. Yes – monstrous casualties, great destruction, but within the framework of the country’s economy as a whole, this is not very much.

Boris Mezhuev
political scientist

— Of course, now Erdogan’s possibilities are limited. What happened is a strong blow for him, literally and figuratively. At the moment, it is not worth irritating the already irritated population with some external ambitions, but, of course, you need to save some points. In a general sense, current events will stop Turkey from many foreign policy initiatives, including in relation to Armenia, the Middle East, and so on. For a long time, it will move to a number of those countries that will deal mainly with internal affairs – the elimination of problems associated with the catastrophe. I think it is unlikely that Turkey will now participate in new military conflicts. Today we need to think about how to prepare for a similar earthquake. It is clear that high-rise buildings that are falling down need to be rebuilt. People will hardly agree to live in them. In addition to the number of deaths and those people who were left homeless, you need to understand that there will be an exodus from their homes in anticipation of new tremors. After this, the country usually recovers for a long time, now it has no time for foreign policy.

I don’t think it is possible to postpone the date of the presidential elections in Turkey. In this case, Erdogan will immediately be accused of something, his popularity will be shaken. He will not take such a risk. And measures to eliminate the consequences of an earthquake always play a role here. We remember how the rating of Nikolai Ryzhkov increased dramatically when he personally took part in the elimination of the consequences of the Armenian earthquake. Erdogan, of course, will have a lot of questions related to how quickly and effectively he will cope with the consequences of the disaster. So far, there is no feeling that this is being done quickly and efficiently. True, the earthquake has not actually ended yet.

I also believe that Turkey is unlikely to be involved in the negotiation process on Ukraine now. This requires huge nerve costs from the leader of the country, Erdogan is hardly capable of this now.

Maxim Kalashnikov
futurist writer

— I don’t know the internal situation in Turkey well enough to judge it. And I don’t have any sociological information about how far Erdogan can hold the situation. But I know that it is very difficult there. In Turkey, the economy is developing and, although salaries are growing, they still remain small against the backdrop of high inflation. Next moment. There was a strong earthquake99 years with great casualties, but this did not prevent the deployment of a new Ottoman policy, right? It is clear that Erdogan has elections in May, but if he wins them, he will by all means extract new incomes for Turkey, some benefits. As, in general, he is trying to do now. So I don’t think that Turkey is there at all… It’s still not the explosion of the Santorini volcano, which destroyed the Cretan civilization in the 13th century BC. And I will remind you that in Ashgabat, for example, in 1948, 40 thousand people died under the ruins. It was a terrible tragedy, but it didn’t stop the Soviet Union, did it? So yes, Turkey will have a hard time, her plans for imperial revival will be somewhat slowed down, but not stopped.

Azat Akhunov
orientalist, Islamic scholar

“Firstly, it must be recalled that this is far from the first large-scale earthquake. They happen quite often. Therefore, it is unlikely that this will change anything in terms of Turkish policy, domestic and foreign. We can also recall the recently ended pandemic, which was very difficult for Turkey. Constantly in lockdowns, the closure of enterprises in the tourism sector, and so on and so forth. The scale of the pandemic can be compared to this earthquake. But, as we can see, Turkey has successfully emerged from this pandemic crisis. And here Erdogan, presumably, will make every effort and direct all means to eliminate all the consequences of the earthquake.

Will President Erdogan be able to retain power under these conditions? I think it can and should. Again, this is not the first time this situation has happened to him. There were a lot of difficult moments in his political biography. And he becomes the main figure in the restoration of the country. All this is being implemented by the current government headed, of course, by Erdogan. He is now in sight and on hearing, and I think that in this situation it turns into such an informal election campaign. And it will run in parallel. According to some reports, opposition support is sometimes estimated at 40, sometimes up to 50 percent, but it seems to me that Erdogan has stronger authority and more support. And practical experience. You can’t compare an earthquake and Erdogan. These are different things, and whether the earthquake will affect his political rating is the wrong question to put.

Evgeny Fedorov
State Duma deputy

– Turkey objectively now needs to solve internal problems: refugees, housing construction, the tension that has developed in society around these processes. Yes, and money is needed simply in huge quantities. Any country would focus more on domestic issues for a while, reducing its activity in foreign policy. If they see in Turkey that the people are not ready for the elections, because, frankly speaking, life needs to be arranged, then they can be moved. The main card that Erdogan will play will be attempts to restore the Ottoman Empire in one format or another. This is the meaning of his life, his mission.

As for Turkey’s participation in the negotiations on Ukraine, I think everyone understands that the problem is not in Kyiv, but in the United States. Therefore, it is necessary to solve the problem with the Americans. The exchange of prisoners of war with Ukraine will remain, but the main issue must be resolved with the United States. And this can be done not through Turkey, but directly. We will use Soviet mechanisms that have been working with the Americans for 60 years from the position of a mutual nuclear weapons complex, the so-called equal and indivisible security. There are no other options here.

How much does a nigga ask for a salary?

I work in a manufacturing company, I manage/lead one of the directions.

My income consists of:

  1. fixed salary 30 thousand USD/month
  2. commission from sales, which I make completely 30% of net profit, it turns out about 4 thousand USD / month.
  3. 3% of the cost of objects that I sell.
  • in 2020, on average, it was 60-65 thousand cu/month.
  • in 2021, on average, 100-105 thousand cu/month came out, there were many large objects.
  • in 2022, on average, 50-55 thousand cu/month came out. there were practically no objects, especially large ones.
  • in 2023 I can not give forecasts, the situation is unlikely to improve.

If we average, taking into account inflation and other things, we get about 75 thousand USD/month.

My main income depends on the generation of objects, the larger the object, the more income (as with a pie).

For understanding, an apartment in a less prosperous area of the city costs 6-7 million USD.

What do we do?

Boiler rooms, capital and modular.

If we build a capital boiler house, it is built by a subcontractor, we supply it with: equipment, piping, installation and commissioning.

In the modular equipment, everything is mounted; in production, commissioning must be done on site.

For the construction of an object, it does not matter whether it is capital or modular, we buy some of the equipment, some we produce ourselves.

Mostly 80% of our equipment.

By ours, I mean, for example, a heat exchange unit that we made from purchased stainless steel, fittings, pipes, pumps and software stuffing. Another example is a boiler of our production made according to the same concept.

What do I do at work?

Suppose we received a request for a boiler room, I select a technical solution and make a commercial offer. 1 out of 20 requests reach the deal.

I am not in sales, unless I can technically advise or clarify questions with the customer.

Suppose the customer paid for a modular boiler house for 10 million c.u.

I coordinate with the founder the amount of expenses for the object. I buy the necessary equipment down to the bolt, Because part of the equipment of our production is developed by me, it does not matter if it is a boiler or a heat exchanger.

I give TK for the manufacture of various components, spare parts for equipment.

I control the quality of assembly and performance, since we cannot maintain a large staff of workers, I do some things with my own hands.

Putting everything together in a transport module.

At the same time I am developing documentation.

Start-up and commissioning.

Setting up the boiler, heat exchanger, dosing of corrosion inhibitors, softening filters, marking the direction of water movement in pipes and other details is done by me.

Other people work besides me, such as an electrician, welder, assembler, etc. at different stages.

I am responsible for the finished product and its performance as the entire assembly.

I handed over the object, I give money to people for work:

for the work of an electrician – 230 thousand c.u.

for the work of an assembler – 180 thousand c.u.

installer – 130 thousand USD etc.

I earned 300 thousand USD, but no, as a rule, this amount is within the limits of 250 thousand USD, or even less.

Why is that?

Here we sold the module separately, the equipment separately.
Here the margin is not the same.

But when I bought equipment abroad, for 3-4 million USD. cheaper than offered in Russia, or the cost of equipment of my design from domestic production is significantly lower, gives competitive advantages, this type is also not for us.

It was in good times.

Then my earnings were good for my region, in principle for me too.

Pre-K Curriculum – Pre-K Pages

A good pre-K or preschool curriculum is an important part of having a high-quality early childhood program. If you’re looking for information about what a child should learn in pre-K, you’re in luck! In this post you’ll find the most common skills and concepts taught in PreK programs.

Although these skills are addressed and introduced, it doesn’t mean pre-K students are expected to master these skills before moving on to the next grade level. All young children learn these concepts and skills at their own individual pace, when they are ready.

Young children learn best through hands-on experiences that incorporate engaging, high-quality picture books, catchy songs and rhymes, and fun games. These types of activities encourage playful learning and allow them to better connect with the expected educational goals.

When you’re writing your lesson plans, it’s important to ensure that you incorporate the concepts and skills your students are required to learn into your lessons. If you need help figuring out which skills to teach when, you can download our free curriculum pacing guide HERE.

Public school districts in the U.S. are required by law to provide screening and evaluation for children ages 3 and up. The sooner any delays or difficulties are identified, the more quickly your child can begin receiving services. Do not wait until your child starts public school to make this request, it’s always better to do it before your child formally starts school.

If your child is already enrolled in a public school, ask your child’s teacher for guidance in requesting services.

Preschool Curriculum Map for the Whole Year

It can be so overwhelming to plan for the entire year of preschool! That’s why I created this year-long curriculum map for preschool and Pre-K, it includes a Year at a Glance, weekly small group math and literacy plans, book lists and more.

I’ve mapped out the whole year for you, just print and go! There’s even an editable template for you so you can tweak it to meet your needs!

What is a Preschool Curriculum Map?

A preschool curriculum map is a framework you can reference to help guide your instruction in your Pre-K or Preschool classroom.

A curriculum map is also commonly referred to as a pacing guide in the educational world, as well as a scope and sequence.

Benefits of Using a Curriculum Map

There are many benefits of using a curriculum pacing guide or map in your early childhood classroom or program. Using a curriculum map can help you organize and plan your instructional strategies for the entire school year.

Curriculum maps can also help determine when to teach required skills so you can focus on how to best teach those skills to your students.

Teachers who use this resource include both public and private school teachers. Many school districts and early childhood centers throughout the US have implemented this resource in their programs with great success.

Preschool Curriculum Map

If you’ve never used a pacing guide before it helps you get a very clear picture of where you’re going with your instruction. It keeps you on track so you know not only what skills to teach, but also when to teach them and in which order.

Year at a Glance

The year at a glance is just a brief outline of the topics and themes covered throughout the school year.

If you notice that a particular theme isn’t currently linked or underlined that means it is forthcoming.

You’ll want to get on my mailing list so you’ll be the first to know when these new resources have been added.

Theme Sequence

The themes listed in the document are just suggestions, feel free to spend more or less time on them according to the unique needs of your students and program.

Book Lists

Choosing high-quality picture books is so important in the early childhood classroom. We don’t get much time with our students, so we have to make the time we do have together really count by selecting books that build academic vocabulary and background knowledge.

You’ll notice that there is a separate column in your guide that links to specific book lists to help you plan your lessons. When you click on the blue text in each of those spaces, you will go directly to the corresponding book list at Pre-K Pages.

To start using the book lists, simply click on the current book list, and then search your local library’s database to reserve copies of the books you want.

Remember, the books on these lists are just suggestions, feel free to make adjustments and substitutions as necessary.

If a book list isn’t linked, that means it hasn’t been published yet, but will be soon.

Which Grade Level or Age Group?

This curriculum map is specifically designed for teachers of Preschool and Pre-K, or children 4 years of age.

Many of the ideas and resources can be modified to meet the unique needs of students who are struggling, or those who may need more challenging material.

Many Kindergarten teachers also use this curriculum pacing guide as a framework, by adding more skills to support their specific required reading and math standards.

Classroom Centers

You’ll also find ten pages of classroom center pictures and material suggestions to help you set up amazing centers in your own classroom!

Each of these ten pages includes a full-color photo of the center in my classroom, as well as a suggested materials list plus a link to more information at Pre-K Pages.

Printing the Curriculum Map

There are many ways to organize your curriculum map to meet your needs. Perhaps the easiest way is to just print it out (using your Instant Ink– of course), 3-hole punch it, and place it in a 3 ring binder.

You can also print the pages and have them spiral bound at your local copy store if you prefer.

Whatever method you choose, be sure to keep your guide close by each week to help with planning your lessons.

Purchasing the Entire Curriculum

The easiest and most affordable way to purchase all of the Pre-K Pages products featured in the curriculum guide is to join the Teaching Trailblazers.

Teaching Trailblazers gives members 24/7 access to all of the paid printables from Pre-K Pages, plus so much more!

New content is added to Teaching Trailblazers (and Pre-K Pages) each month.

Additional Resources

As if all that wasn’t enough, the Teaching Trailblazer also includes links to all of the other resources at Pre-K Pages to help you:

  • Set up amazing classroom centers
  • Create fun dramatic play center themes
  • Transform your calendar time
  • Streamline assessments
  • Communicate with parents
  • Establish daily routines and procedures
  • …and more!

      Big!

Living in Chicago for more than one month, visiting more than one museum of this city, the first impression is the scale! Therefore, shoes should be comfortable, and health – excellent! Each age group will be interested in certain expositions of the museum. The big advantage is that everything can be touched, looked at, twisted, twirled, photographed and filmed. When asked to talk about the museum, two words, five minutes and one sentence won’t get you off! Definitely, I will advise every person and wish to visit the museum at least once in their life in reality, and not virtually, and see everything with their own eyes.

      Awesome museum

I read the previous low rating reviews and was surprised because everything was different on our visit. We decided to visit the museum on Saturday, came to the opening, at 10 o’clock. Everything is clean, the glass is rubbed, transparent and everything is perfectly visible! Lots of themed rooms. You can touch everything and get as close as possible. Abraham Lincoln – A true inspiration!

As a Yankee from Illinois, I was thrilled to awaken in my husband, who is from Atlanta himself, a sense of deep respect for Lincoln. So we finally made it to the Springfield Lincoln Museum while we were there with the family. He was duly impressed – and inspired! The museum has excellent theater and film as well as exhibits showing Lincoln’s life from childhood to death. Very informative and interesting.

      How cool!!!

That’s all for the people!!! There is such a wonderful zoo in a huge park. A wide variety of animals in well-maintained pens. Of course, the animals are in an environment that is not natural for them, but the conditions that are created for them are very appropriate, the animals are practically free – there is so much space allocated for them. Thanks to everyone who takes care of them there, feeds them, protects them …. there is something to compare with, since zoos in Ukraine are a cabinet of curiosities for animals.

Be sure to take a look inside! It’s just another world! Chicago is a great city with lots of great places, but this building stands out. It’s like you’re in a fairy tale. Rise immediately to the last floor. Soft and relaxing colors, detailed patterns of mosaics, and even the absence of visitors in the evening create an atmosphere of comfort and unhurried enjoyment. Bliss! Relax! Charm!

10 Best School Website Designs [And How They Did It!]

Just like any nonprofit or association, schools are expected to have a website that accurately communicates their vision. Designing a beautiful and engaging school website starts with choosing the right content management system (CMS). A CMS that is catered towards meeting the unique needs of a school will have the right functionality and design elements for a truly engaging website.

When choosing a CMS for your school, look for a website platform with mobile-responsive website themes and a web design portfolio that includes organizations similar to your own. This will give you a good idea of what results you can expect from using that CMS platform.

Ready to feel inspired? Find out how these leading schools and academies designed exceptional websites:

    1. New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School
    2. Bronx Charter School for Children
    3. Times 2 STEM Academy
    4. Round Rock Independent School District
    5. Park University
    6. George Washington Academy
    7. Ross School
    8. Bow Valley College
    9. Putney High School
    10. Hope Academy

Founded in 1993, The New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School or “Sci High” is an open-admission public charter school that prepares all students for college admissions and successful careers. As stated in the name, they specialize in science, math and technology. Donations are a high priority for this school to supplement state/local funding for their students.

Why We Love Sci High’s Web Design

Sci High’s unique branding is evident throughout their website. Their brand colors and distinct font is nicely incorporated into the web design. Their mission is displayed upfront on the homepage along with stunning imagery and video footage to help paint a picture of what it is like to attend this school.

Sci High’s website has dedicated pages for news and events in an easily digestible blog format. Site visitors can scroll through the news page to see recent stories or click through their events calendar to find out about upcoming events.

A Twitter live feed on the homepage and social media icons linked in the site’s navigation menu encourages students and supporters to join in the conversation online.

Our favorite feature? Sci High’s website offers dedicated sections for students, parents, and teachers. Students can find quick links to check their grades, join clubs or request tutoring. Their parents can easily find information about the school’s policies, class schedules, and bus routes. Teachers have their own classroom pages where they can upload course materials or post updates for the class.

How They Built This School Website

Sci High recently redesigned their website with Morweb.org. Their website is built on the Morweb platform with a custom-designed school website theme.

The school makes use of Morweb’s robust website features including events management, on-site donation page, blog engine and rotating image sliders.

Morweb’s user-friendly content management system (CMS) enables organizations like Sci High to keep their website constantly updated with drag-and-drop editing tools. Schools can easily add new content and adjust the layout on the front end of their website without any coding knowledge.

The Bronx Charter School for Children (TBCSC) is a charter school in the South Bronx with a mission to empower children to achieve their greatest potential both as students and as members of their communities.

Why We Love TBCSC’s Web Design

TBCSC’s website is visually stunning and easy to navigate. The first thing visitors see on the website’s homepage is the rotating image banners of the students that attend the school with links to other page content.

Slick mouse over effects give the school’s site an interactive feel and the web design is fully responsive meaning the layout adjusts to fit whatever device you’re on. The site’s mobile view is equally as engaging as the desktop view.

TBCSC’s homepage encourages visitor engagement by displaying upcoming events with one-click registration, and an Instagram live feed.

Our favorite feature? The donation page features recommended donation amounts and outlines how your contributions will be used to make a difference. Not only is the donation form extremely easy to fill out, it also allows you to make your donation recurring or dedicate your gift.

How They Built This School Website

TBCSC partnered with Morweb to design their website on a platform that helps nonprofits manage all aspects of their online presence from website design to donations to events.

The website was designed by customizing one of Morweb’s premium website themes. Their chosen theme has a built-in ‘donate’ button in the navigation menu so that it’s easy for supporters to find.

Morweb’s drag-and-drop editing makes the site easy to update and allows TBCSC’s staff to have complete control over their website content. They can even create new pages and add them to the navigation menu without needing to contact a developer.

Adding new events is as simple as creating a blog post. Using Morweb’s event page templates, schools can easily create an event by inputting a title, date, description, ticket price and photo. All events are automatically generated on the events page by date and several are featured on the homepage for quick registration.

Times 2 STEM Academy is a charter school located in Rhode Island serving grades kindergarten to twelve. The school focuses on STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Why We Love Times 2 STEM Academy’s Web Design

The academy’s STEM focus is evident on their website from the outset. The header image text and intro paragraph state the school’s vision and make it clear what they hope to accomplish with their education programs.

Times 2 STEM Academy’s award for Best High School in the US News & World Report is built into the website layout to highlight this great accomplishment. By fixing it next to the rotating image banner, this award is always visible no matter what image is showing.

Page animations and mouse-over effects bring the homepage to life as you scroll through the site. Daily news stories are featured in a blog format and the events page uses an attractive calendar layout with engaging images.

Our favorite feature? The navigation menu is very straightforward and features call-to-action (CTA) buttons ‘Donate’ and ‘Apply’ to encourage site visitors to take action.

How They Built This School Website

Times 2 STEM Academy’s website was built on the Morweb platform by customizing a premium website theme for schools. Because the school has such an active online presence, Morweb is a great fit because it allows them to make updates and add new content on the front of the website so they can see their changes in real-time. All content created within Morweb is automatically mobile-optimized.

News stories and event pages are created through Morweb’s blog engine so even non-technical people can create new posts. Morweb’s page previews allow you to see your content before it is published.

The Round Rock Independent School District is located in the city of Round Rock, Texas. The district’s mission is to prepare students to contribute to society, continue to learn and confidently embrace the challenges of a competitive and ever-changing world.

Why We Love Round Rock’s Web Design

Round Rock ISD has a student-centric web design with photos of students displayed in the header images and throughout the layout. Their homepage features a Trending Now section that highlights news stories and another section with quick links to help site visitors jump to popular content.

Because the website is SO large, they make use of an expanded drop-down menu with different sections to organize their page content.

The news section is a main feature of the school district’s website. News posts generate in a blog format making it easy for site visitors to read through the different articles.

Our favorite feature? Round Rock’s commitment to accessibility is evident throughout their web design. In an Accessibility Statement, the school district outlines the ways in which they have optimized their website for users with disabilities or impairments.

How They Built This School Website

Round Rock uses WordPress to build and power their website. WordPress is best known as a blogging platform which is great for the school’s news section.

WordPress is an open source CMS platform meaning its code is freely available online. Because it is open source, thousands of web designers and developers can contribute their website layouts or third-party plugins. The main benefit is the number of choices available for web designs and features. The drawback however, is that there is less quality control and some poorly written third-party plugins can leave your website vulnerable to security threats.

Park University is a private, nonprofit, institution of higher learning in Parkville, Missouri. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees with some programs offered online.

Why We Love Park University’s Web Design

Park University’s homepage is very powerful. The video banner immediately draws you in and the featured stories gallery is very unique. This site hits all the marks with featured posts, a prospective student sign-up form, interactive campus map and social media live feed. The school’s virtual tour is a nice touch especially while the campus is closed to visitors.

Our favorite feature? The site’s program finder tool allows prospective students to sort by location, field of study, and program level to find the courses they’re interested in.

How They Built This School Website

Park University redesigned their website on WordPress with the help of a web design agency. The website’s theme was custom-developed for the university so it matches its branding seamlessly. WordPress makes it easier for the school’s administrators to update content, however, design changes will still require the help of a web developer.

George Washington Academy is a public charter school for grades kindergarten to 7th grade located in St. George, Utah. The academy’s objective is to communicate effectively, build strong character and social responsibility, and use high levels of thinking skills.

Why We Love George Washington Academy’s Web Design

George Washington Academy’s website design is very straightforward and refined. The structure of the site is easy to follow and the visual elements lend to a great user experience. From the moment you land on the site, it’s easy to find what you’re looking for. The navigation menu is broken up into different sections for students, parents and faculty with other important links in the site’s secondary menus.

Our favorite feature? The web accessibility widget located in the top right corner of the navigation menu. Users can adjust the settings on the website to increase/decrease font, highlight links, convert content to black and white or change the font so it’s easier to read. This feature is important for people who rely on screen reader technology or have visual impairments.

How They Built This School Website

George Washington Academy built their website on the Morweb platform. Morweb’s unique school functionality made the platform an easy choice for a website provider. The academy customized one of Morweb’s education themes and took advantage of powerful features including blogs, event pages, career listings and web accessibility options.

With the Morweb platform’s drag-and-drop editor, keeping the site updated is easy for the faculty and administrators to manage on their own.

    7. Top School Website: Ross School

Ross School is a private boarding school located in the town of East Hampton in New York. The school’s curriculum is based on world cultural history and the evolution of consciousness based on the work of its two founders; mathematician Ralph Abraham and cultural historian William Irwin Thompson.

Why We Love Ross School’s Web Design

The imagery of the website is stunning and the bright colors further add to an engaging design. If you scroll further down the homepage, you can see aerial footage of the campus and an embedded Facebook feed featuring the students in action.

There are three ways to navigate the site; through quick links on the homepage, the top navigation menu, or using the collapsible menu in the top right for more in-depth information about the school.

For those looking to lend their support to the school, there is an embedded donation form with specific categories to give to. The giving page is compelling because it offers in-depth descriptions of how the different funds will be used.

How They Built This School Website

Ross School built their website using Squarespace. Squarespace is known for its stunning website designs and highly visual layouts.

The CMS platform’s editor is great for non-technical people because it allows users to make edits and add new content with a drag-and-drop interface. While Squarespace’s editor isn’t quite as easy to use as Morweb or Weebly it doesn’t require the extensive coding knowledge of CMS platforms like Drupal.

One drawback of using Squarespace for nonprofit websites is that it lacks functionality for on-site donations and event registration. Ross School makes use of an embedded donation form which offers a better user experience than externally linked pages, however, embedded forms don’t have options to customize the design to match the rest of the site.

Bow Valley College is a post-secondary school located in Calgary, Alberta. The college has a variety of programs for academic upgrading, English language learning, continuing education and post-diplomas.

Why We Love Bow Valley College’s Web Design

Bow Valley College has a great storytelling focus in its website design. The homepage features recent stories covering student experiences, campus events and teacher spotlights. But what’s really great about this website is the photography featuring real students and the various campuses. They do a great job of balancing the site’s text and imagery to convey their message.

The site’s mega menu is well-organized making it easy to find the program you’re interested in. Bow Valley College’s website also has powerful functionality with a blog engine and a cart to pay for certain courses online.

How They Built This School Website

Bow Valley College designed their website using Sitecore. Sitecore is a powerful CMS which is great for larger websites but it is not very user-friendly for the general public. The backend can be quite confusing for the non-developer so you’ll likely need someone on staff to help with site maintenance if you choose to go with this platform. Sitecore has a variety of attractive website designs but there is limited flexibility in the design if you aren’t experienced with coding.

Putney High School is an all girls’ school in London, UK. The high school is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, a network of 25 independent schools and academies. The mission of the school is to build confident, creative thinkers and deliver an education that is truly relevant to their future.

Why We Love Putney High School’s Web Design

Putney High School’s web design has very slick animations with a unique navigation menu that drops down when you hover over the main categories. The homepage features multiple news stories and photos that animate as you scroll down the page. The high school’s online donation page and parents portal link to external platforms to handle the added functionality.

Our favorite feature? The interior pages have unique typography and colorful images of the students to capture your attention.

How They Built This School Website

Putney High School used WordPress to design their website. WordPress’ blog engine is user friendly for posting new content regularly so the school can keep their site’s homepage fresh. The theme looks like a custom design that was created to fit the high school’s branding. The main drawback of a custom WordPress theme is that it’s difficult to make changes to the design without the help of a developer.

The awards, which utilize Federal funding through the American Rescue Plan, could support more than 3,500 new child care slots across Maine, enabling 2,000 parents to work or take classes while their children receive quality care.

The Child Care Infrastructure Grant Program is part of a $25 million child care initiative in the Governor’s Jobs Plan that includes $15 million for early childhood education. The grant program will help Maine people open child care businesses in their homes, transform existing buildings into quality child care spaces, and construct new child care facilities. Existing child care providers can also use the funding to expand the number of children they serve. Priority is given to sites in rural areas, that care for infants and toddlers, and participate in the child care subsidy program.

An additional $5.4 million for this Program was included in the supplemental budget and will be distributed this fall.

“Maine’s current and future workforce depends on accessible, affordable child care. Not only do working parents need a safe place to send their kids during the day, but research shows that successful early care and education programs can boost academic outcomes and even high school graduation rates,” said Governor Janet Mills. “Through the budget and the Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan, we are expanding access to child care and giving working families what they need to provide healthy, safe care for their kids that allows them to go to work, bring home a paycheck, and strengthen our economy.

“These grants will help families across Maine find quality child care in their own communities,” said Health and Human Services Commissioner Jeanne Lambrew and Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) Director Todd Landry. “Jumpstarting new child care businesses and creating new child care slots will enable parents to take new jobs or pursue their education knowing that their children are safe and well cared for.”

OCFS is administering the Child Care Infrastructure Grant Program through a partnership with Brunswick-based Coastal Enterprises, Inc. The funding may be used for new construction, renovations, outdoor spaces, indoor furniture and fixtures, educational materials and working capital.

“Finding child care is a challenge for most working parents,” said Keith Bisson, President, Coastal Enterprises, Inc. (CEI). “Lack of child care keeps parents out of work, affecting a family’s economic well-being and causing a ripple effect of lower participation in Maine’s workforce. CEI is honored to partner with the State of Maine to help administer this grant program in support of our child care ecosystem.”

Applications for new family or home-based child care businesses are opening first, to encourage new providers in Maine’s rural areas, beginning today through May 2023. Home-based child care businesses may apply for 75 percent of their start-up costs, up to $8,500. Applications for new construction of child care centers and expansion of existing child care providers will be announced by August 2022.

New family child care businesses licensed by September 30, 2023 are also eligible for a one-time $2,000 stipend.

“Governor Mills and her Administration have recognized that child care is essential to Maine’s economy,” said Tara Williams, Executive Director of the Maine Association for the Education of Young Children. “Investing in child care infrastructure grants reduce cost barriers for start-up child care businesses and program expansion. These investments in child care businesses and recent investments in the child care workforce continue to grow Maine’s child care system and are beneficial to Maine’s families and economy.”

“A high quality child care system is important for the future of Maine. The ongoing investments of Governor Mills and her Administration recognize the importance of supporting all parts of the system,” said Jennifer Wescott, Chair of the Family Child Care Association of Maine. “FCCAM appreciates the recognition of the important role that family child care providers serve in a high quality child care system. We appreciate the effort to support existing programs to expand and improve quality of care, as well as providing start up support for those new small businesses entering the profession.”

Governor Mills is making these and other historic investments in accessible child care in Maine as part of the first-ever Child Care Plan for Maine (PDF) developed by OCFS that invests approximately $120 million in American Rescue Plan funds to help Maine’s child care system recover and to improve quality, accessibility, and affordability over the long-term.  Maine was one of the first 12 states to release these American Rescue Plan funds, with more than 1,500 providers receiving the payments to date. This investment also includes helping low-income parents who receive subsidies by waiving their contribution to child care fees.

Additionally, Governor Mills included in her supplemental budget, signed into law in April, State funding to continue $200 monthly stipends to more than 7,000 child care workers, continuing stipends that the Department began providing last year as part of a larger effort to attract and retain people to work in this valuable profession.

As a result of these investments totaling more than $100 million, child care providers have been able to maintain, and even build, capacity despite the pandemic – from 47,819 licensed slots in February 2020 to 48,940 licensed slots in June 2022.

OCFS additionally maintains the Child Care Choices website, which allows families to locate and connect with providers in their area.

The Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan is the Governor’s plan, approved by the Legislature, to invest nearly $1 billion in Federal American Rescue Plan funds to achieve three goals: immediate economic recovery from the pandemic; long-term economic growth for Maine; and infrastructure revitalization. It draws heavily on recommendations from the Governor’s Economic Recovery Committee and the State’s 10-Year Economic Development Strategy, transforming them into real action to improve the lives of Maine people and strengthen the economy.

90,000 PFR: the period of child care is also counted in the length of service | Dubna

Old-age insurance pension is formed in pension coefficients: the more of them, the higher the amount of pension

Pension coefficients can be formed both for insurance and non-insurance periods. The periods of work during which insurance contributions to the Pension Fund are paid for a citizen are called insurance periods. Non-insurance periods – when a citizen does not work and employers do not deduct contributions for compulsory pension insurance for him, but his pension rights to an insurance pension are formed at the same time. In particular, they include the period of child care.

According to Art. 12 of the Federal Law of December 28, 2013 No. 400-ФЗ “On Insurance Pensions”, the period of care of one of the parents for each child until they reach the age of one and a half years, but not more than six years in total, is counted in the insurance period. Pension coefficients are calculated for no more than 4 children.

The insurance period may include the period of caring for a disabled child, if the corresponding period is not included in the insurance period for the other parent when establishing an insurance pension for him. For these periods, pension coefficients are calculated.

Thus, for one calendar year the following coefficients are established:

    1.8 pension coefficient – the period of caring for a disabled child, a disabled person of group I;

    1.8 pension coefficient – the period of care of one of the parents for the first child up to 1.5 years;

    3.6 pension coefficient – the period of care of one of the parents for the second child up to 1. 5 years;

5.4 pension coefficient – the period of care of one of the parents for the third (fourth) child up to 1.5 years.

Pension coefficients will be calculated if during this period the citizen was not in an employment relationship.

If a citizen worked while on parental leave, he will have the right to choose which pension coefficients to use when calculating a pension: either for work or for a non-insurance period. If several periods included in the insurance period coincide in time, then only one of them is taken into account when assigning a pension.

PFR takes into account the period that gives the right to an insurance pension and (or) to determine the value of the individual pension coefficient in a higher amount. A citizen who has applied for a pension may indicate in the application the period chosen by him for accounting in the insurance period.

Periods of caring for a child are included in the insurance period if they were preceded and (or) followed by periods of work and (or) other activities (regardless of their duration), for which insurance premiums for compulsory pension insurance were paid. This allows parents to form their pension rights and qualify for an insurance pension.

You can find out about your formed rights in your personal account on the official website of the Pension Fund, on the public services portal, in the PFR mobile application, as well as in the PFR client service or the MFC.

Non-insurance periods – caring for children under 1.5 years old, caring for disabled citizens, military service on conscription – in the insurance period, which gives the right to an early pension for a long service (42 years for men and 37 years for women), are not counted.

To be eligible for an old-age insurance pension in 2021, you must have at least 12 years of service and 21 pension coefficients. Every year, the number of seniority and pension coefficients will increase until it becomes equal to 15 and 30, respectively.

Sharp feathers and hairpins: 7 portraits of prominent 19th-century journalists from Europe, Russia and America

    Stories

The progressive 19th century marked the beginning of women’s struggle for their rights, which in many ways started with the publications of the first female journalists on the pages of European and American newspapers. In Russia, the first female journalists also appeared at this time, although they mainly focused on the children’s audience and literary creativity. For World Women’s Day, “Around the World” remembers seven significant journalists of the 19th century.

    Margaret Fuller

“Humanity is divided into men, women and Margaret Fuller,” Edgar Allan Poe, who had an uneasy relationship with her, once said. A much more flattering description of her was given by the poet and transcendental philosopher Ralph Emerson: “The greatest woman from ancient times to the present day.”

In the 1840s, Margaret Fuller had a reputation as the most well-read person in New England

Margaret Fuller was truly an extraordinary person who was ahead of her time and stood at the origins of feminism in the United States. She was born in May 1810 in Massachusetts, from which her father was elected to the US Congress a few years later. He also instilled in his daughter a love of reading and made sure that Margaret received a classical home education, which included acquaintance with the works of ancient philosophers.

She then continued her studies at several institutions, and at the age of 16 she returned to her father’s house, where she independently took up the study of foreign languages. “I felt that I was not born for the ordinary female lot,” she wrote at the time.

Margaret gave private lessons and began writing for periodicals in the 1830s, beginning with literary criticism. The death of his father from cholera in 1835 seriously affected the 25-year-old girl – Timothy Fuller did not leave a will, so his brothers, and not the widow and children, inherited his estate and property. Margaret had to abandon plans to travel to Europe, where she was going to work on a biography of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe – in 1836 she began working as a school teacher to provide for her family.

Three years later, Fuller and her family moved to the Boston area. There she began to hold “talks” – meetings for women, at which history, art and natural sciences, as well as other pressing issues, were discussed. The “conversations” that Fuller led from 1839 to 1844 replaced the education of the participants, many of whom later became prominent figures in the women’s rights movement.

In the same year, 1839, Ralph Emerson, mentioned above, invited Margaret Fuller to become the editor of the newly created magazine The Dial, , which brought together members of the Transcendental Club, in which Fuller was one of the main members of . She began work in 1840, but left the post two years later without receiving the promised money, although she continued to write for the magazine as an author.

In 1844, Fuller got a job in a large newspaper New York Tribune, where she became a book reviewer. In four years she wrote over 250 articles on literature, art and music for the publication. Part of her writings was devoted to social problems and politics. In 1845 she published an expanded version of her text in The Dial is about men and women. The book “Woman in the 19th century”, in which Fuller wrote about the importance of equal rights for men and women and how to achieve it for the common good. This book is now considered the bible of American feminism.

having first visited England, where her sensational book was published without the knowledge of author, and then France and Italy. On this journey, she managed to get acquainted with George Sand, Adam Mickiewicz and other prominent figures.

In England she met the Marquis Giovanni Ossoli, with whom Fuller began an affair. In 1847, the couple moved to Florence, and a year later they had a son. Biographers are still arguing when Ossoli and Fuller got married and whether it happened at all.

In 1849, a revolution broke out in the Papal States and the Roman Republic was proclaimed, and Fuller and her husband were at the center of events unfolding in Rome. Ossoli went to fight the French troops called in by the Pope to put down the uprising, and Margaret became a nurse. The revolutionaries were defeated, but Ossoli and Fuller were able to leave Rome. They left for Florence, and in 1850 they decided to go to the USA.

Margaret Fuller was preparing a book about the short and sad history of the failed Roman Republic, which she considered her most important work. She took the draft manuscript with her on board the Elizabeth, a ship bound for New York. The flight, alas, was tragic. First, the captain of the Elizabeth died of smallpox, and on July 19, 1850, an inexperienced assistant who took his place ran the ship aground off the coast of New York during a storm.

It was not far from the shore – passengers who knew how to swim and even the newly-made captain jumped overboard. Margaret Fuller and her husband, unfortunately, could not swim and remained on deck. The wave that covered the dying “Elizabeth” carried them to the open sea along with their 22-month-old son. The bodies of his parents and the treasured manuscript of Fuller were never found.

    Eliza Lynn Linton

Eliza Lynn was born in the British county of Cumbria in February 1822. She was the 12th and last child in the family, and her mother died when Eliza was less than six months old. As a child, she was left to herself, including in the matter of education. In her early years, she began to write poetry.

In 1845, Eliza came to London, where she took up writing under the auspices of the writer William Ainsworth and the poet Walter Landor. However, her first works were not very successful. In 1849In 1998, the girl got a job in the newspaper The Morning Chronicle, becoming the first paid full-time journalist in the history of Great Britain.

    — So you are the same little girl who wrote one wonderful book, and now wants to become a pen shark? – asked Eliza when meeting the editor of the newspaper John Cook.

“Yes, and I am a woman,” she replied. After a short conversation, Cook took her to work.

Lynn worked at The Morning Chronicle for two years, during which time she wrote articles on a wide range of topics and also did book reviews. Journalistic work brought a good income, but in 1851 Eliza left the newspaper after a falling out with the editor. Subsequently, she still collaborated with Cook, but their friendship came to an end. In the same year, her novel Reality was published, exposing Victorian society and its attitude towards women. The book shocked the public and critics, and Eliza was accused of immorality.

Ms. Lynn then worked as a correspondent for various publications in Italy and France. In particular, she wrote for the newspaper The Leader and the magazine Home Reading, which was edited by Charles Dickens. In 1858, she married the famous illustrator and publicist William Linton, who had seven young children from a previous marriage. Perhaps Eliza agreed to marry this widower out of altruism and also to test her theories about parenting.

Marriage did not bring happiness to Eliza – she and Linton separated after a few years, having lived for some time first in Linton’s dilapidated house in Cumbria, and then in London. In 1867, the couple officially filed for divorce, and Linton moved to the United States with the children.

During and after her marriage, Eliza continued to write novels and articles for periodicals. It is noteworthy that she was distinguished by conservative views and no longer shared the ideas of feminism that was emerging in those years. In particular, in one of the essays, she attacked girls who use cosmetics and dare to flirt with men. At 189In 1999, Lynn Linton wrote that she considered politics to be a purely masculine affair.

Eliza Lynn Linton died of pneumonia in London in July 1898. Critics and researchers to this day study her controversial literary legacy.

    Jane Swisshelm

Jane Gray Cannon was born in December 1815 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Fate prepared for her the role of one of the first journalists in US history, actively fighting for the abolition of slavery and women’s rights.

Jane grew up in a religious Scotch-Irish immigrant family, where she was kept strictly. She lost her father in 1823, and soon her mother adapted her to paint velvet and weave lace. Then the girl was able to get some education, and in 1836 Jane married James Swisshelm, who in 1838 took her to Louisville (Kentucky), where he was going to start a business with his brother. It was then that Jane saw with her own eyes how slaves were being exploited. Their unenviable fate made an indelible impression on the girl. She soon went to Pittsburgh against her husband’s wishes to care for her ailing mother, and after her death, Jane attended a female seminary for two years. Then she returned to her husband, who by that time had settled on a farm in the vicinity of Pittsburgh.

In the 1840s, Jane began publishing articles in local newspapers strongly against slavery and the death penalty. The unwillingness of the editors to publish her writings prompted Jane Swisshelm to found her own newspaper with money bequeathed to her by her mother. A publication called Pittsburgh Saturday Visiter appeared in 1847 and lasted 7 years. In her columns for this newspaper, which were reprinted by other American publications, Jane, among other things, supported the right of married women to own property.

In April 1850, as a reporter for the New York Tribune , Swisshelm became the first female journalist to be admitted to the US Senate. That day was marked by a loud scandal: one of the senators took out a revolver to cool the ardor of a colleague who had thrown himself at him. Swisshelm’s report on this event was extremely colorful.

By 1857, Jane had lost her job in Washington, given birth to a daughter, left journalism for a while to care for her child, returned to the profession and divorced her husband. She then moved with her daughter to St. Cloud, Minnesota, where she founded the newspaper The Saint Cloud Visitor . She continued to ardently oppose slavery, for which she suffered – once the editorial office of the newspaper was destroyed, and the printing press of the publication was thrown into the river.

Behind this attack was local politician Sylvan Lowry, whom Swisshelm repeatedly accused of oppressing the Winnebago Indians, slavery and other abuses. With the support of friends, the brave journalist purchased a new printing press and began publishing the newspaper The Saint Cloud Democrat . The main theme of this newspaper was the protection of women’s rights.

With the outbreak of the American Civil War, Swisshelm began to travel to major cities in the United States. In Washington, an old acquaintance got her a job as a clerk at the headquarters of the Quartermaster General of the army of the northerners. In parallel, the journalist worked in the hospital. In 1864, she managed to organize the care of 182 seriously wounded soldiers at the Fredericksburg Hospital (Virginia). After the end of the war, Swisshelm founded the The Reconstructionist newspaper, which criticized President Andrew Johnson, which caused her to lose her civil service job. In 1866, the journalist, left without a livelihood, returned to Pittsburgh.

For the rest of her life, Swisshelm did not engage in publishing, but continued to write for various American newspapers. The celebrated journalist died in July 1884. One of the districts of Pittsburgh is named in her honor.

    Lady Florence Dixie

Florence Caroline Dixie, born in 1855 in the family of the Scottish Marquis of Queensberry Archibald Douglas, from childhood did not want to live up to the title of lady – the girl was a real tomboy, swam in a race with her brothers, was fond of hunting and horseback riding.

Florence Dixie was fond of football. In 1895, she became president of the women’s football team

Florence Douglas cut her hair like a boy, refused to wear formal Victorian dresses, and loved to travel. Her childhood was marred by the death of her father when Florence was three years old, the difficult nature of her mother, and her dislike of the Catholic school. Already at a young age, Florence became interested in poetry.

In 1875, the girl married Baronet Dixie Alexander Churchill. He was a large man who shared his wife’s passion for adventure and travel, but suffered from an addiction to alcohol, cards and games at the races. Contemporaries noted that it was the fragile Florence who was the head of this family, and her husband obeyed her steel grip. But the baronet eventually lowered his fortune.

The couple traveled a lot around the world, and within a few years Florence managed to become famous in the literary field: she wrote several books for children and adults, including stories about her trip to Patagonia, from where a brave lady brought a live jaguar.

In 1881, Dixie became a correspondent for the London newspaper The Morning Post and traveled with her husband to South Africa, where she reported on the First Boer War, as well as life in the Cape Colony and the Zulu Country. In particular, the journalist interviewed the Zulu leader Ketchwayo, who was captured by the British. One of her reports on the plight of the Zulus was called “In the Land of Misfortune”. Later, she wrote articles in which she supported many liberal ideas.

Dixie believed that women and men should have equal rights in the family. In 1890, the journalist published the feminist utopian novel Gloriana, or the Revolution of 1900. In the foreword, Dixie spoke of the need to empower women and give them access to jobs and education.

According to the plot, the main character of the novel, Gloriana, is elected to the House of Commons under the guise of a man, and then gradually leads Britain to matriarchy. The book ends with a description of prosperous life in Great Britain at the end of the 20th century.

Lady Florence Dixie died in November 1905. She was buried in the family estate in Scotland.

    Natalya Shalikova

“I read Narskaya’s story in the 6th issue of Sovremennik—and I was very pleased. The first female, fresh voice in our literature. <...> And don’t you know who this Narskaya is, and where she lives? – Ivan Turgenev wrote in July 1855 criticizing Vasily Botkin. Under this pseudonym, Princess Natalya Petrovna Shalikova, born in 1815, who is considered to be one of the first Russian journalists, published her story “The First Acquaintance with the Light”.

Petr Shalikov is the father of our heroine. There are no known images of the princess herself. The younger sister of Princess Sophia was married to the publisher Mikhail Katkov.

Natalya Shalikova began to study literature in the 1840s, taking up translations of French short stories, and a few years later she made her debut as an author in Sovremennik, earning praise not only from Turgenev, but also from critics: Nikolai Dobrolyubov and Botkin mentioned above. After the founding of the Russky Vestnik magazine by Katkov in 1856, Shalikova began to actively cooperate with this conservative publication.

In 1858 she published Free Choice, a story about a young girl who finds herself in high society. Claudia Furzheeva, the main character of The Choice, had a lively curiosity and noble outlook on life. Shalikova wrote about the strength of a woman’s character, about the need for equal education, about purity of heart, and encouraged her to be sincere in her feelings.

In 1865, in Wiesbaden, Germany, the princess met Fyodor Dostoyevsky, an aspiring novelist. Some literary scholars suggest that it was Shalikova who proposed sending the novel Crime and Punishment to Russkiy Vestnik. With the publication of the novel in 1866, Dostoevsky began a long-term collaboration with Katkov.

Natalia Shalikova did not stop writing until her death in 1878. She had to fight for the publication of her stories – some of her manuscripts lay in the editors for years. But the princess did not give up: she collaborated with various magazines, for which she wrote, among other things, travel essays from Russia and other countries she visited.

    Maria Rostovskaya

Maria Lvova was born in 1814 in St. Petersburg. She came from a well-known “musical and literary” family: her father, Fyodor Lvov, wrote poetry and prose, and studied musicology. Maria’s brother, violinist and composer Alexei Lvov, is known as the author of the music for the hymn “God Save the Tsar!”. And Maria’s godfather was Gavriil Derzhavin himself, whose wife the girl was a great-niece. Subsequently, Maria wrote an essay about the Derzhavins.

Maria took up journalism and literature rather late. She was educated at home, and in 1843 she became a maid of honor to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, the wife of Nicholas I. Two years later, Lvova married retired staff captain Alexander Rostovsky. For her, this was the second marriage – almost nothing is known about Lvova’s short first marriage, which ended in divorce.

After moving to her husband’s estate, Maria Rostovskaya became interested in writing. In 1852, her children’s story, The Adventures of Pony the Ems Donkey, was published, which was well received by critics and the public. In the same year, Rostovskaya wrote a biographical essay about Karl Bryullov on the occasion of the death of the famous painter.

Since 1860, Rostovskaya’s works have been published in the children’s and youth magazine “Snowdrop”, which was published by the writer and journalist Vladimir Maikov, the brother of the poet Apollon Maikov. During its short existence, The Snowdrop served as the main source of intellectual reading for a children’s audience. The journal published works by Nikolai Nekrasov, Dmitry Grigorovich, Ivan Goncharov and translations of works by foreign authors: Andersen, Hoffmann, the Grimm brothers, etc. Rostovskaya, on the other hand, became one of the employees of the editorial office of the Snowdrop and worked in it until the magazine was closed in 1862.

six years old . The publication was patronized by the young Empress Maria Alexandrovna, wife of Alexander II. So, the magazine was distributed to women’s gymnasiums, which were supervised by the royal family.

The magazine published novels and stories for children of different ages, as well as educational publications about history, travel, and the natural sciences. There were even sections with literary criticism and “news” about various discoveries and inventions. The publisher published on the pages of “Evenings” stories about love for the motherland and essays on national history. In particular, Rostovskaya told about the life of Empress Catherine II, commander Alexander Suvorov and fabulist Ivan Khemnitser. She sometimes touched on social and political topics.

Critics sometimes accused Rostovskaya of elitism and the absence of conflicts in her writings, but recognized her command of the purest Russian language and colorful visual means.

At the end of the 1860s, Rostovskaya began to write the story “Peasant School”. She collected material for it on the estate of her sister Nadezhda Samsonova, who, together with her husband, founded an elementary school for peasant children in the village of Bektyshevo. Maria Fedorovna came to the estate more than once to see how peasant children were studying. The story was first published in the Rostovskaya magazine, and then repeatedly reprinted until 1917 years old. The images of inquisitive peasant children created by Rostovskaya were praised for their liveliness and believability.

Maria Fedorovna died in June 1872 in St. Petersburg. “The works of Rostovskaya are written with talent and skill and were read by children
with particular interest. Its direction was always strictly moral and patriotic,” read an obituary in the Grazhdanin newspaper.

    Minna Kant

Minna Kant, became famous for social journalism, literature and women’s rights. It rightfully occupies an honorable place in the history of Finland.

Born Ulrika Wilhelmina Jonsson was born in 1844 in Tampere. In 1863, she entered the new seminary for elementary school teachers in Jyväskylä, but did not complete her education – in 1865, Ulrika married her natural science teacher, Johan Ferdinand Kant. In this marriage, which ended in 1879In the year after Johan’s death, seven children were born. In 1880, the widow and children moved to Kuopio, taking over the management of the thread and yarn business inherited from her father. In this she was quite successful – the business brought a stable income.

The burden of a housewife with many children did not prevent Minna Kant from pursuing journalism and then writing. In the 1870s, she wrote for the newspaper Keski-Suomi, in which her husband worked as an editor, and then Minna collaborated with various publications, becoming the first independent journalist in the history of Finland. In total, she wrote about 70 articles in which she spoke loudly about the rights of women, denounced social vices with irony and vehemence, and actively defended the rights of the oppressed. In 1889–1890 Kant was the publisher of the Free Ideas magazine, for which she selected and translated publications from foreign publications in order to acquaint readers with the current European social agenda.

In parallel, Minna Kant created works of art: her stories and plays also deal with social inequality and the difficult life of a woman in a traditional patriarchal family.

The work of Minna Kanna was often criticized by his contemporaries, but history has put everything in its place. Her house in Kuopio became a place of attraction for young writers, artists and intellectuals – debates, public readings were held here, ideas for future works were born. Mrs. Kant died in 1897 year.

“Kant’s position in life is something we all can and should learn. She believed that you need to stand behind your convictions and do what you believe in and the rightness of which your heart does not doubt, despite the fact that the world around you says otherwise,” says Minna Ryutisalo, author of the book dedicated to Kant “Mistress K” .

On 19 March, the writer’s birthday, Finland celebrates Equality Day, also known as Minna Kant’s Day.

In honor of the launch of a joint collection with adidas actor and director told how to accept yourself, why it is more difficult for fat guys develop a sense of style and when he creates his own brand of clothing.

Sam Schube Then he was promoting his film “Mid 90-x”, so he had to go to business meetings, interviews, press screenings every day. He needed to have in stock several universal images that would fit any celebration. The actor’s outfits became more restrained and gloomy: at that time, he practically did not wear bulky Patagonia sweatshirts, T-shirts with tie-dye prints and Palace items with huge logos. “Then I had no other choice,” Hill explained to us.

But two years later the situation improved. Now he can not only experiment, but also create his own things. The other day he just presented a collaboration with adidas. This season, he released new versions of the Samba model, as well as a collection of clothes (wide shorts and down jackets were our favorites). Judging by the work done, bright colors returned to the life of the actor: emerald, red, scarlet. But this does not mean that he traded catchy shades for a directorial career. On the contrary, he is now preparing a project about psychotherapy specifically for Netflix.

We spoke with Jonah Hill about learning to experiment and trust yourself and your sense of style.

We learned about your collaboration with adidas in January of this year. But after that, as you remember, not the easiest period awaited us. How long have you been thinking about a joint project?

Jonah Hill: Winter will be two years since I started working with adidas. Only in the fall of 2019 I was offered to create my own collection. Before that, I thought I would launch a personal clothing brand.

    Wow, really?

Yes, I was offered a partnership just at the moment when I was thinking about the first collection. I am a longtime adidas fan. So I was just happy to learn from the geniuses and collaborate with the brand. How can you turn down the opportunity to learn new skills and create things that your fans will wear?

I can imagine how serious the offer was if you refused your own project.

Yes, but I was allowed to do what I liked. In fact, our collaboration with adidas is the result of my debut collection, which I designed back in 2018.

How did it all start? What inspired you?

Well, the first joint project was an updated version of Superstar, which turned 50 this year. I was told that I should start with this release. Of course, I love this pair, but still it’s not my main favorite. I immediately said that doing something basic is not so easy.

           Pattie Merhej: Owner and Manager

Patricia Merhej is a mother of two. She has been living with her family in Marine Park since 2000. She was born and bred in Brooklyn and that’s where she chose to establish her family. She got married to computer engineer, John Merhej in 1991, and together they had 2 sons: Michael and Robert.

Pattie studied at Kingsborough Community College, where she majored in Community Health and Biology. She studied Emergency Care to become an Emergency Medical Technician, and worked as an EMT at Beth Israel Medical Center for four years.

Both Michael and Robert attended P.S. 206. Pattie, joined the Parent Teacher Association at her kids’ school and became a member for 5 years, and president for 2. She helped arrange school activities, holiday parties, school productions, fundraisers, scholastic book fairs, parent and child music programs, and much more.

In 2010 she decided that it was not time to retire from caring for kids. Quite the opposite, she wanted to apply her skills and knowledge, coupled with her passion for caring for children, into founding Itty Bitty Adventures.

The right of children to special care and assistance from their parents is proclaimed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Article 27 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child establishes that the parent(s) or other persons raising the child have the primary responsibility to ensure, within their abilities and financial means, the living conditions necessary for the development of the child.

The Constitution of the Russian Federation (Article 38) stipulates that motherhood and childhood, the family are under the protection of the state. Caring for children, their upbringing is an equal right and duty of parents.

The issues of the maintenance of minor children and disabled adult children are enshrined in the Family Code of the Russian Federation (hereinafter referred to as the RF IC), which establishes the right of each child to care and receive maintenance from their parents (Articles 54, 60), as well as the obligation of parents to support their minor children (Article 80) and disabled adult children in need of assistance (Article 85 of the RF IC). Parents are required to support their minor children. The procedure and form of providing maintenance to minor children are determined by the parents independently.

In the event that parents do not provide maintenance for their minor children, the funds for the maintenance of minor children (alimony) are collected from the parents in a judicial proceeding.

Alimony for minor children is collected by the court from their parents on a monthly basis in the amount of: for one child – one quarter, for two children – one third, for three or more children – half of the earnings and (or) other income of the parents (Article 81 RF IC) .

A statement of claim or an application for a court order can be filed with the court at the place of residence of the defendant (debtor) or at the place of residence of the parent with whom the child lives. If an application for a court order is filed with the court, it will be considered by the judge within five days without calling the recoverer and the debtor and conducting a trial (Article 28, part 3 of Article 29, part 1, art. 123, Art. 126 Code of Civil Procedure of the Russian Federation).

The judge will cancel the court order if the debtor raises objections regarding its execution within the prescribed period (10 days from the date of receipt of the order). In this case, a claim for the recovery of alimony may be filed in the course of action proceedings (Article 128, Article 129 of the Code of Civil Procedure of the Russian Federation).

Alimony will be assigned from the moment of applying to the court.

At the same time, there still remains a problem related to the payment of alimony for minor children by a parent living separately from the children, since parents often pay alimony irregularly or in an insufficient amount.

If a parent evades parental responsibilities, including through malicious evasion of alimony, he may be deprived of parental rights.

If a parent fails to pay alimony without good reason within two or more months from the date of initiation of enforcement proceedings, it is possible to bring him to administrative responsibility.
