A Few Words Of Gratitude

We want to thank all parents who are interested in visiting and become a part of our center at this time. We also thank all the people who contributed so that this center would open its doors: friends, Father Arturo, Father Mateus, to our children, Jesus Ricardo, Luis Mario, and Ana Paloma for their dedication to building this center. To the entire work team committed to the transformation of the center as well as Candelaria Clinic. But mainly to our Father God, who leads our lives through his service, in his hands we entrust everything that 5 Star Kids will build and every life it will touch throughout its years of service.

SincerelyGuerrero Family

Kindergarten is children. Everything that happens in the Skazka kindergarten in the village of Alekseevka is done here for them and for their development. In 2018–2019academic year 28 preschool children became winners of municipal competitions of readers, creative works, all-Russian correspondence Internet competitions and quizzes.

Kindergarten is parents. They are the main assistants in the work of teachers, and they are very grateful to them for this. For 30 years, parents have been winners, laureates of creative competitions, promotions, sports competitions, and holidays.

Eco Kids: A Natural Childcare Center – Childcare

INFANTS

Eco Kids provides care for Infants, ages 6 weeks – 18 months of age.  We have two infant rooms, our “Eco Sprouts” and our “Eco Seedlings.”

Infant Philosophies

Our infant classrooms will utilize the philosophy of Primary Caregiving. Each of our two infant classrooms will have eight children and two teachers, and within those classrooms each teacher will be assigned to provide Primary Care for four infants. Primary Caregiving suggests assigning a staff member to a set of children, to allow a strong bond to form between not only the child and caregiver, but the caregiver and family as well. It is through close relationships with caring adults that children flourish, discover their world, and learn who they are.

Our Infant programs also use the best practice of “Freedom of Movement,” to allow for more opportunities for natural gross motor development.

Eco Kids is a New York State certified Breastfeeding Friendly Center!

TODDLERS

Eco Kids provides care for toddlers, ages 18 months – 3 years of age.  We have two toddler rooms, our “Eco Blossoms” and our “Eco Buds.”

Toddler Philosophies

Our toddler classrooms are child-centered and provide daily educational experiences through free and guided play. The children will have the opportunity to participate in role play, art, music, reading, gardening, puppet shows, physical activity, dance, family-style meals, etc.

At Eco Kids, we believe the path to early language literacy begins with basic conversations between caregivers and young children. Your child’s caregivers will promote early language development by using simple words the children understand and by interacting with each child daily through the use of books, songs, puppet plays, etc.

PRESCHOOL

Eco Kids provides care for children 3 – 5 years of age in our “Eco Wildflowers” classroom.

In our preschool classroom, the children begin getting accustomed to a more structured environment. While they will still be allowed plenty of time for exploration, they will start participating in daily academic centers as well as a structured and educational “morning meeting”.

At this stage, children will focus on letter/name/number recognition and writing, counting, shape sorting, early science exploration based on STEM research, and fine motor skills (cutting, tracing, etc.). The children will also begin focusing on Kindergarten readiness with lessons aligned to the Core Body of Knowledge and the Early Learning Guidelines.

While there is an emphasis on academics at this age, our programs continue to focus on building social/emotional skills through play-based activities, physical development through movement and exercise, and creativity by incorporating the arts and music.

City of childhood and health – Moscow perspective

Over the past 10 years, Moscow has launched an unprecedented scale program for the construction of social infrastructure facilities, ensuring the principle of walking distance. Schools, kindergartens, clinics and hospitals are being built as part of a comprehensive, balanced development of territories in close proximity to housing, taking into account the real needs of Muscovites. Fewer citizens use transport to take their child to school or to see a doctor

Since 2011, 288 kindergartens have been put into operation in the capital, of which 15 – this year, 104 schools, of which eight – at the beginning of 2020. Thanks to the high pace of construction, back in 2014, Moscow was the first in Russia to eliminate queues in preschool institutions for children from three to seven years old. And today in many areas there is not one, but several educational institutions that are easily reached on foot. According to experts from the international rating agency PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Moscow has been recognized as the city with the most comfortable social infrastructure in the world. In 75% of districts, schools and kindergartens are within walking distance from housing. According to this indicator, the Russian capital has overtaken London and New York.

Every year the number of buildings being built according to original projects is growing, where everything is taken into account: comfortable zoning and environmental friendliness, visualization principles, safety requirements and much more. The time of faceless gray boxes is a thing of the past. For example, in Zapadny Degunin, a kindergarten for 150 places appeared as part of the school with transforming classrooms and a facade painted in the style of Kazimir Malevich. In the Eastern District on Pervomayskaya Street, a building with figured windows and multi-colored walls was built for preschool children. When designing a kindergarten in Kommunarka, even a child psychologist was consulted – as a result, tactile surfaces, rich and positive colors were used in the interiors. And in the new kindergarten in Ochakovo-Matveevsky, they provided a special sensory room with materials and simulators for the development of the child’s senses, as well as a small carpentry workshop.

One of the most famous trends in the construction of educational institutions in recent years has been the construction of giant schools. They are being built in high-density neighborhoods, where young Muscovites need to be provided with the necessary number of educational places, and the adult population – with jobs close to home. One of these schools for 2,100 students is already operating in Nekrasovka: primary classes can accommodate up to 800 students, middle and senior classes – 1,300. The school has everything you need for a quality educational process – textbooks, laboratories, libraries with a conference room. A large sports core has also been created with playgrounds for mini-football, badminton, volleyball, table tennis, and treadmills. Despite the huge area, the building was well-zoned: junior classes are taught separately from middle and senior ones. Another giant complex – the Letovo International School for 1012 children – was opened in the Sosenskoye settlement in the TiNAO. And the largest school in Moscow and all of Russia was the building on the territory of ZIL, occupying an area of 40.8 thousand square meters. meters, which is capable of simultaneously receiving 2.5 thousand students. Children of different ages are divided into educational blocks, equipped with special classes with transformable partitions for learning foreign languages, technologies, fine arts, and even for Lego construction. Organized places for sports and creativity. A key feature of the experimental school is a children’s technopark, where children learn robotics, physics, laser and nanotechnologies, try their hand at shipbuilding, create virtual reality, and learn the basics of other professions.

The scarcity of territories in the conditions of the existing compacted development prompted the capital’s construction complex to implement another unique project that did not exist in the city before: the construction of transforming buildings that can alternately be used as a school, as well as an elementary school and a kindergarten, depending on the needs of a particular area at a particular moment. Thus, a building designed for 300 places can be transformed into a block of primary classes with accommodation for 12 classes of 25 junior schoolchildren or a kindergarten for the same 12 groups of 25 kids. You can convert the transformer even during the summer holidays. This is possible due to a fundamentally new design solution – the use of universal cells, during the transformation of which only the purpose of the premises and the composition of the equipment located in them change. This year, two such transformers were opened in Moscow – in the districts of Kurkino and Sokolinaya Gora. Similar buildings are being built in other areas.

One of the most powerful programs of recent years in the capital is the construction of healthcare facilities. Every Muscovite should have access to quality medicine, the opportunity to visit specialist doctors, undergo examinations and receive qualified assistance close to home – this is the goal set by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, which the capital’s construction complex is actively working to achieve. The results are obvious: in 10 years, 93 buildings of polyclinics, hospital buildings, ambulance substations, and medical centers were built, equipped and opened. Of these, only in 2020, when Moscow was the first in the country to bear the brunt of the pandemic, eight facilities were erected, including the infection center in Voronovsky, created in a month. This is a world record, and most importantly, a feat in the name of life accomplished by Moscow builders. More recently, at the end of October, a reserve hospital was opened in Kommunarka at 1249places and with an intensive care unit for 330 beds for patients with COVID-19. Engineering and technical solutions and provision are not inferior to traditional hospitals. The building is equipped with sanitary checkpoints and locks, like a standard infectious diseases hospital. And even earlier, the first stage of the Novomoskovsky medical center was introduced in Kommunarka, which became the front line in Russia in the fight against coronavirus. Buildings for the Institute of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology of the Blokhin Cancer Center, a perinatal and cardiology building for 330 beds of the City Clinical Hospital No. 67 on Salam Adil Street, a children’s polyclinic No. 71 for 320 visits per shift on Akademika Komarov Street, a new children’s and adult polyclinic in the Bolshoi were put into operation. Strochenovsky Lane and a number of other objects necessary for the city.

Polyclinics, medical centers, hospital buildings are designed and built in such a way as to create convenience and comfort for both patients and medical staff. For example, offices of medical specialists, which traditionally have the largest influx of visitors, are located on the ground floors. The requirements of sanitary and epidemiological safety are taken into account, conditions for persons with disabilities are created – buildings are designed with ramps and handrails, separate elevators for wheelchair users. Much attention is paid to the formation of a healthy, “healing” environment.

A striking example of the implementation of such a project is the inpatient department of the children’s hospice “House with a lighthouse”, which opened a year ago. It can accommodate 400 patients at the same time. On the first and second floors there are 15 single rooms for children and their parents. Children can have relatives and even pets with them. On the third and fourth floors there is a physiotherapy department, an outreach office, a thrift store. Under the hospice, the city gave the building of the former school with very wide corridors, through which children freely ride in wheelchairs. There is also a swimming pool where you can swim even with ventilators. There is a recreation area on the roof of the building, and a garden with a play town in the form of a lighthouse was laid out on the adjacent territory.

The healthcare facilities built over 10 years are only part of a large city program to provide Muscovites with quality and affordable medical services. In addition to the eight facilities that opened this year, nine more are planned to be commissioned by the end of 2020, for a total of 17. But this is not the limit. The plans for the next three years are to build another 64 facilities: 18 hospital buildings, 30 clinics and six ambulance substations. The majority will be built using the funds of the capital budget, already included in the Targeted Investment Program for 2021-2023. ®

Social infrastructure is being developed in the capital at the expense of investors

mos.ru

Social infrastructure is being developed in the capital at the expense of investors. Already 22 new social facilities have been put into operation at the expense of investors since the beginning of the year, Andrey Bochkarev, deputy mayor for urban planning and construction, said.

About 75% of Moscow districts are provided with the necessary social facilities within walking distance. “According to this indicator, Moscow is ahead of London and New York. Since 2011, more than 420 buildings of educational institutions have been built in Moscow, while about 38 percent of educational facilities have been built at the expense of investors. In the next three years, more than 70 new buildings of schools and kindergartens will be built in the city at the expense of non-budgetary sources,” Andrey Bochkarev noted.

All residential areas of Moscow are being developed taking into account the needs of residents. The primary task is to provide each district with the necessary number of places in schools, kindergartens, clinics and household services within walking distance.

According to the temporary procedure for the application of calculated indicators for housing construction and social service facilities, there should be 124 places in general education schools and 54 places in kindergartens per thousand residents. New projects of residential complexes should not increase the burden on existing infrastructure, so developers are required to compensate, for example, by building new schools and kindergartens and other social and transport infrastructure facilities.

“Of all the social facilities commissioned this year, 14 were built at the expense of non-budgetary funds as part of projects for the integrated development of Moscow territories,” Andrey Bochkarev specified.

Investors plan to build 10 schools and primary school blocks, 19 kindergartens, three healthcare facilities, and eight sports facilities.

C section pain 6 months after: 9 Things No One Tells You About C-Section Recovery — Baby2Body

9 Things No One Tells You About C-Section Recovery — Baby2Body

About one-third of all US births are delivered by a Cesarean section and in the UK it’s approximately one-quarter. Are you surprised by those stats? The growth rate of C-sections has rapidly increased over the last few decades and since 1990 reports indicate that the rates have tripled.

Whether you are electing to have a C-section or if it happens as an emergency, you deserve to feel supported and know what to expect once you go home. However, we have discovered that so many women are not prepared for what the C-section recovery process involves. If you’ve been to an antenatal class, you’ll know that they are primarily focused on vaginal deliveries and the consequent recovery. However, C-sections are more invasive and often entail a longer road to recovery. As they are becoming increasingly common we need to prepare women for what’s to come. And this all begs the question, why aren’t C-sections discussed more often.

We think the stigma that continues to shroud C-sections limits the conversation around the topic. At the end of the day, the best way to give birth is the way where both mom and baby are as healthy and happy as possible. Sometimes that is a vaginal, natural birth. Sometimes it involves an epidural. Sometimes it involves a C-section. Every pregnancy, every baby, and every female body is different, and that leads to so many different birth stories. At Baby2Body, we’re here to meet you exactly where you are, and if you’ve had a C-section or have one planned we want you to feel as prepared for what to expect when you go home.

From poling our audience, we’ve discovered that most of the key recovery aspects (such as not lifting and not driving) are known, but it’s the smaller anecdotal points from personal experience that are not publicly shared. For women having a first-time C-section, those anecdotes can go a long way in helping with preparedness and confidence in going home with baby.

So we’ve pulled together some facts and feedback from our audience on things you may not know about C-Section Recovery, but absolutely should.

1. There will be blood

Although you haven’t had a vaginal delivery you will still experience bleeding after birth. Many women are often surprised by this. It can be less bleeding with a planned C-Section but if you labored and then experienced an emergency Cesarean you can bleed just as much as with a vaginal delivery.

2. It’s going to feel frustrating at times

After a C-section, new mothers often struggle with stress, they must deal with caring for their newborn alongside caring for the painful incision scar and being far less mobile than if they’d had a vaginal delivery. It can make things as simple as getting out of bed very difficult and this frustration added to fluctuating postpartum hormones can be challenging to manage. Being aware of how limited your mobility will be in those first few weeks can help you prepare ahead of time, and get the support you need from your partner, family, or close friends.

3. You might need help feeding baby

Whether you are doing breast or bottle, feeding your baby is a whole lot harder after a C-Section. You will require much more support to lift your baby, and even getting up from a chair is surprisingly hard and a little painful. Remember, the muscles that support your abdomen were separated during your C-section, so you won’t have that abdominal strength to support you. Getting your partner or other family involved is going to be critical to your physical and emotional wellbeing.

4. Trapped gas is really common (and painful)

This is one side effect that isn’t talked about enough, but gas pains after a c section can be excruciating. They will pass within about a week but it can feel like you have a huge amount of air moving around your middle like a big balloon while everything settles back down after the interference of surgery.

5. You may experience numbness

Loss of feeling near the incision is a side effect that many women experience after a C-Section. It’s because small nerves are severed during surgery and it takes time for them to regrow, usually within several months but it can take longer. It’s a strange feeling but one that should pass. However, if you are still experiencing persistent numbness months after your operation then you should seek advice from your healthcare professional.

6. You want to be careful when coughing, sneezing, or laughing

You will find any of the above difficult and painful in the first few days after your C-Section, as these daily actions use your abdominal muscles (that have been split open) and will make you feel like you are straining your incision wound. It’s not a pleasant sensation, but you can help by having a pillow or rolled-up towel nearby so if you feel like you might sneeze or cough then hold the pillow firmly on your scar area to support it as you do so.

7. You should know about “The Shelf”

Sometimes referred to as the pooch, this is where the skin above your C-Section scar hangs over creating a “shelf”. You will notice it while your tummy returns to normal after birth but some women continue to have it long after birth. The skin around the scar is often pulled much tighter than the looser skin above it which is why the shelf can occur.

8. Your scar can look uneven

While you might imagine you’re going to have a central and symmetrical scar, this is not always the case. It can be cut higher on one side compared to the other and the scar tissue can be thicker in places. It depends on how your baby was lying and how the scar was closed at the time of surgery. In general, a C-section scar will fade and look much better within 2 weeks, but full healing can take up to 3 months. If you do have thicker areas of scar tissue that bother you then it could be worthwhile seeking help from a scar massage specialist.

9. There can be long-term side effects

Some women do experience symptoms related to their C-section scar long after the operation. Some women feel pain, restriction, or a pulling sensation on or around their scar months or even years after surgery. This is normally due to the build-up of scar tissue which can stick to muscles or even organs and cause pain. Sometimes that scar tissue pain can present as hip or lower back pain, shoulder pain or tension, headaches, or painful periods. If you are experiencing pain long after your C-Section we always advise you to seek advice; and similar to the suggestion above, you may want to seek a specialist in C-Section massage, which can help alleviate these problems.

Do you have more questions about C-section recovery? If you’ve had a C-section, what do you wish you were told beforehand to help you feel more prepared? Let us know in the comments below!

Is Your C-Section Scar Causing You Pain?

Your body goes through so many changes not only during pregnancy but after as well. If you’ve had to have a c-section, the recovery can take some time, but what about lingering side effects? That pain in your neck, lower back, or even cramping could be from scar tissue.

These types of reactions are due to the fascial restrictions that are caused when the scar heals. When you have major surgery, your fascia is cut. When your cut is healing, the fascia forms a layer of tissue even tighter than before so the body can protect itself.

Click the link here to read more about scar tissue and how we can help you get back to feeling better with myofascial release.

C-section Scar Tissue Release

When you are cut for any reason, the physiological mechanism your body has to combat the trauma is to seal the wound quickly and efficiently, eventually producing a scar” (Conquering Mystery Pain, p. 65). Scarring from cuts can lead to adhesions, which are an internal complication directly connected with the scarring process. Adhesions can spread from the scar area throughout the body, and they can reach certain areas of the body that might seem completely unrelated to where the scarring actually took place. Most times, people are not even aware that pain in one area of the body directly correlates to scarring in a completely different area of the body.

This can lead to more complications for women, especially those who have had cesarean sections and episiotomies. Both of these surgeries require tissue to be cut, forming a scar. A lot of women experience pain months after having a cesarean section, and they don’t realize that it is directly related to that surgery and that they need to seek treatment.

Dr. Jess shares more information on scar tissue release and how our team of therapists works to release this fascial restriction. You can check out her book on Amazon for more detailed info on scars!

Scar Tissue Release

Adhesions form scars end up creating soft tissue restrictions, which can lead to symptoms such as pain, sensitivity, numbness, tingling, and dense build-up of tissue. But, one positive thing about adhesions, as opposed to scars, is that they are susceptible to manual change. When adhesions are treated by therapists who specialize in myofascial release therapy, flexibility is returned in the tissue because the MFR therapists are able to help your body achieve healing within the fascia. So, it is very important to note that certain pain or inflammation that you are experiencing could be directly related to scarring, especially if you have had a c-section. It is important to seek treatment from a therapist who specializes in MFR (like Dr. Jess!), as this is where the bulk of your healing will take place.

90,000 Growing pains in children. Causes of occurrence

What it is?

Often, growth pains in the legs include manifestations of discomfort in the absence of organic pathology.

Other names: “recurrent nocturnal limb pain” and “benign limb pain in children” emphasize the features of the condition: nocturnal symptoms that recur and a favorable prognosis.

Meanwhile, the disease disrupts the full sleep of a small person and causes concern for moms and dads.

How often do they meet?

The disorder occurs in different countries: from 10 to 50% of boys and girls turn to a pediatrician, orthopedist, rheumatologist with characteristic complaints.

What are the causes of the condition?

Today there is no consensus why it appears. Meanwhile, it was established that “growth pains” actually have nothing to do with the process of growth.

Importance is given to a combination of factors:

  • Excessive mobility and physical activity of children in this age period.
  • Increased excitability of the nervous system and impressionability of babies. The immature nervous system does not have time to process and interpret the increased number of incoming impulses. At night, at rest, the brain perceives signals of irritation, stretching, pressure as pain.
  • Scientists have found that babies who wake up at night crying and complaining of leg twisting have a lower pain threshold. Patients are also hypersensitive to other stimuli.
  • A number of studies have found vitamin D deficiency in patients. The problem of this hypovitaminosis is relevant for boys and girls of any age.

In some patients, episodes of headaches and abdominal pain are recorded, the cause of which cannot be determined.

The theory that was popular in recent years about the occurrence of bone pain during growth has not been confirmed. Symptoms do not depend on changes in the musculoskeletal system, jumps and rates of increase in body length.

How does the disease manifest itself?

Symptoms of growing pains scare parents. A typical picture is as follows: the child suddenly wakes up a few hours after falling asleep, crying, with complaints of throbbing, pulling pain in the knees, shins, ankles, calf muscles on both sides.

Pain in the arms is less common, in addition to signs of abnormalities in the knees and lower legs.

For preschoolers, dull arching pain is characteristic, for schoolchildren – a feeling of crawling, a desire to move limbs.

Headache and abdominal discomfort are sometimes noted.

The episode lasts 10-20 minutes, intuitively parents try to improve their well-being by massaging, kneading and rubbing their legs until the child calms down and falls asleep. In the morning, the baby wakes up healthy and often does not remember what happened. During the day, the joints do not bother, and after a night or two, the situation is exactly the same.

The frequency of episodes varies from 3-4 times a year to daily, the intensity is from moderate to severe.

Parents note that awakenings are provoked by physical activity, emotional experiences and strong impressions during the day. The problem may disappear for weeks or months and then return.

In the family of patients, similar complaints are mentioned among other relatives.

What is important to know?

  • There are no signs of illness during the daytime. No matter how hard the night passes, in the morning the child feels healthy. General well-being also does not suffer: normal temperature is maintained, there are no violations from organs and systems.
  • Damage or inflammation of the joints and muscles is not determined by examination: there is no swelling, deformation or discoloration of the skin, the patient can perform all the normal range of motion of the arms and legs.
  • Additional examination methods and laboratory tests show no pathology.

How to make a diagnosis?

Suspect the disease allows a colorful description of the attack and the presence of characteristic criteria:

  • repeated nocturnal episodes: more than once a month for at least 3 months;
  • bilateral character;
  • high intensity: baby wakes up and cries
  • after days of increased physical activity
  • no visible changes on physical examination
  • excellent health of the patient in the daytime.

The diagnosis is established on the basis of clinical signs after the exclusion of other pathology, primarily arthritis.

When carefully examining a small person, pay attention to:

  • musculoskeletal disorders: change in movement, joint swelling or tenderness to pressure on bones;
  • skin changes that occur in rheumatology: with juvenile dermatomyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriasis;
  • gait, which demonstrates abnormalities in lesions of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems;
  • an increase in the size of the lymph nodes, liver, spleen is alarming in terms of the tumor process.

The results of laboratory tests and instrumental methods of examination help to confirm the diagnosis.

What diagnostic methods are used?

Changes in tissues are not determined during this process, so instrumental diagnostics is necessary to exclude other, serious pathologies.

The standard examination plan for recurring nocturnal discomfort in the limbs includes clinical and biochemical blood tests with the determination of indicators of the function of internal organs, the level of C-reactive protein, the main marker of inflammation.

With the help of a general urine test, metabolic disorders are detected. If an infection is suspected, the serum is examined for antibodies to bacteria.

Radiography determines bone damage, ultrasound – pathology of soft tissues. Instrumental methods of examination are prescribed according to indications.

Which doctor should I contact?

A child who has pain in the legs or arms needs a face-to-face examination by a rheumatologist to rule out arthritis.

Situations that require immediate medical attention:

  • pain on one side;
  • symptoms are present in the morning, afternoon or evening;
  • external manifestations of ill health: swelling of soft tissues, fever or discoloration of the skin, impossibility of movement;
  • first-time manifestations younger than three and older than 12 years.

How is the disease treated?

Your son or daughter has been diagnosed with growing pains, what should I do?

Firstly, the parent needs to understand and explain to the child the nature of what is happening in an accessible language. This will reduce anxiety and relieve the baby of fear.

Changing the mode will help: reduce physical activity and transfer the time of sports to the first half of the day.

After lunch and in the evening, give preference to calm games. Extend your bedtime rituals and add relaxing treatments: A warm bath, soothing soft music, dimmed lights, or warm milk can help your baby.

During attacks, with light massaging movements, stroke, rub and knead the areas where there are unpleasant sensations. To alleviate the condition, dry heat helps: apply a towel or heating pad heated on the radiator to your feet. If necessary, have your son or daughter sit on your lap or lie down next to you until the child calms down.

In most cases, the measures taken are sufficient.

If the episodes are daily or intense, the doctor prescribes age-appropriate ibuprofen at the time of the attack or before going to bed.

When vitamin D deficiency is detected, it is necessary to take a therapeutic dose of the drug under the supervision of a doctor.

Is the disease dangerous?

The process does not change the growth and development of a small person, does not destroy bones and joints, and does not lead to other chronic diseases.

Anxiety causes the sensations themselves and nocturnal awakenings, however, they also disturb the parent to a greater extent.

Growing pains in teens disappear at 90% of cases. One in 20 patients persists into adulthood.

The danger is represented by serious violations with similar manifestations, which are disguised as a benign process.

You should be alerted if

  • a pathological process prevents the baby from getting enough sleep and functioning normally: to study, play, explore the world around;
  • symptoms are noted in the morning or in the afternoon, their intensity increases;
  • discomfort associated with a traumatic event;
  • there is swelling, redness, rash or skin changes in the painful area;
  • developed fever, change in appetite, weakness and fatigue.

Conclusion

Growth pains are a benign condition that does not affect growth and development, which develops in 1-5 out of 10 children – preschoolers and younger schoolchildren. The main manifestation is a recurring nocturnal pain in both legs, from which the child wakes up. The phenomenon is temporary and does not harm the general health of a small person.

If you suspect a pathological process, contact your pediatrician and visit a rheumatologist to rule out inflammation in the joints.

Diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles and diastasis of the womb. Solvable problems of pregnancy. Interview with Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor M.A. Chechnyova

— What is muscle diastasis and what is pubic diastasis?

— Pregnancy is an amazing and wonderful time, but it is also a period of additional loads, which undoubtedly becomes a test of strength for the female body.

The previously existing everyday point of view that pregnancy rejuvenates and gives strength is not confirmed by anything. During the bearing of a child, significant additional loads are placed on the mother’s body, which often lead to the manifestation of problems that were invisible before pregnancy.

Diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles is a divergence of the inner edges of the muscles along the white line of the abdomen (connective tissue structure) at a distance of more than 27 mm. Pubic diastasis is one of the manifestations of pregnancy-associated pelvic girdle pain. This pathology affects the entire pelvic ring, sacroiliac joints and symphysis. And they certainly have common causes for the appearance.

The formation of such problems is facilitated by a decrease in the strength of connective tissue collagen. One of the reasons is an innate predisposition, the so-called connective tissue dysplasia, when the tissues are very elastic, extensible. During pregnancy, the body of a woman increases the production of the hormone relaxin, which reduces the synthesis of collagen and enhances its breakdown. This is provided by nature to create maximum elasticity of the birth canal. However, other structures, such as the anterior abdominal wall and the pubic symphysis, also fall under the action of relaxin.

— How does diastasis of the muscles and diastasis of the pubis affect pregnancy and childbirth?

– Divergence of the rectus abdominis muscles is observed in approximately 40% of pregnant women. During pregnancy, it does not give serious complications that threaten the life of the mother or the condition of the fetus. However, the inferiority of the work of the rectus abdominis muscles forces the redistribution of the load on the back muscles, which can lead to lumbar-pelvic pain and, accordingly, discomfort in the back. During childbirth, the abdominal muscles are involved in attempts, and the violation of their anatomy and function can affect the birth act.

With diastasis of the pubis, things are more complicated. As already mentioned, this is only one of the manifestations of a violation of the structure and function of the pubic joint (symphysiopathy) during pregnancy. It occurs in about 50% of pregnant women in varying degrees of severity: in 25% of cases it leads to restriction of the mobility of the pregnant woman, in 8% – to severe disorders up to disability.

With symphysiopathy, the ligaments of the pubic articulation and cartilage that connect the pubic bones suffer. All this leads to severe pain in the pubic joint, pelvic bones, lower back, as well as to a violation of gait and the inability to stand up or lie down without outside help. Women with pelvic girdle pain syndrome experience significant levels of discomfort, disability, and depression, with associated social and economic problems. These include impaired sexual activity during pregnancy, chronic pain syndrome, risk of venous thromboembolism due to prolonged immobility, and even seeking early induction of labor or caesarean section to stop pain.

During childbirth, this patient may experience a rupture of the pubic symphysis and may require surgery to repair it.

— How to prevent the development of muscle and pelvic diastasis during pregnancy and childbirth? What factors increase the likelihood of its development?

– There is no recipe that will be one hundred percent. There is a wonderful term in the medical literature called “lifestyle modification”. Whatever diseases we study, be it symphysiopathy, diabetes mellitus or preeclampsia, the risk group for pathology is always overweight women. You need to prepare for pregnancy, you need to be in good physical shape. During pregnancy, weight gain should be monitored. The recommendation to “eat for two” is not just wrong, but extremely harmful. Pregnant women should maintain reasonable physical activity. Weak and flabby abdominal muscles, combined with the large size of the fetus, undoubtedly increase the risk of diastasis.

The risk factors for symphysiopathy in numerous studies are heavy physical labor and previous injuries of the pelvic bones. Factors such as time elapsed from previous pregnancies, smoking, use of hormonal contraception, epidural anesthesia, mother’s ethnicity, number of previous pregnancies, bone density, weight and gestational age of the fetus (post-term fetus) are not associated with an increased risk of symphysiopathy.

– How to diagnose diastasis recti and diastasis pubis?

— In most cases, diastasis rectus abdominis can be diagnosed clinically. It happens that inspection, palpation and simple measurements are enough.

In the standing position, you can see the divergence of the muscles when the woman does not have subcutaneous fat. In this case, diastasis is defined as a vertical defect between the rectus muscles.

With tension of the abdominal press, a longitudinal protrusion is observed in the diastasis zone. Such a protrusion is especially noticeable if the patient in the supine position is asked to raise her head and legs. If necessary, you can measure the width of the defect simply with a ruler.

Ultrasound may be the most accurate diagnostic method. With ultrasound, the inner edges of the rectus muscles are clearly visible and the distance between them at different levels can be measured.

Computed tomography is used in the diagnosis of diastasis extremely rarely, mainly in scientific research.

For the diagnosis of symphysiopathy and diastasis pubis there is no one test as a “gold standard”.

The first place, of course, is the questioning and examination of the patient. We pay attention to the gait of the pregnant woman, to how she sits down, lies down and how she gets up. Symphysiopathy is characterized by a “duck gait”, when a pregnant woman rolls from foot to foot. On palpation in the area of the womb, pain and swelling are noted. The so-called pain provocative tests are used, for example, a mat-test (pulling up an imaginary rug, mat with your foot towards you).

The following questionnaires are used to assess the quality of life, the level of pain and disability: Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQL), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Disability Rating Index (DRI), Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS), Pregnancy Mobility Index (PMI), and Pelvic Ring Score (PGQ).

Of the instrumental methods, ultrasound is the most widely used, less often computed or magnetic resonance imaging. Ultrasound allows you to assess the condition of the ligaments of the pubic joint and the interpubic disc, the severity of the changes and the risk of natural childbirth.

— What is the treatment for diastasis recti or pubis?

— Primary prevention: when planning and during pregnancy, it is necessary to strengthen all muscle groups of the pelvic girdle, as well as the pelvic diaphragm.

More often, diastasis of the rectus muscles disappears on its own during the first months after childbirth. Special physical exercises to correct the work of muscles, to tone them and restore their basic functions should be performed under the guidance of a competent instructor. There are types of physical exercises that can, on the contrary, worsen the situation with diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles. In some cases, when there is no effect from physiotherapy exercises, it is necessary to resort to surgical correction of the defect. Currently, both endoscopic and open surgery are practiced. The choice of method depends on the size and localization of the defect.

With symphysiopathy, therapeutic exercises reduce lumbar and pelvic pain. Acupuncture and wearing a pelvic bandage have a positive effect on symphysiopathy.

Initial treatment for pubic symphysis should be conservative even if symptoms are severe. Treatment includes bed rest and the use of a pelvic brace or corset that tightens the pelvis. Early appointment of physiotherapy with dosed therapeutic exercises will help to avoid complications associated with prolonged immobilization. Walking should be done with assistive devices such as walkers.

In most cases (up to 93%), the symptoms of dysfunction of the pelvic ring, including the pubic joint, progressively subside and completely disappear six months after birth. In other cases, it persists, becoming chronic. However, if the diastasis exceeds 40 mm, then surgical treatment may be required. Most studies recommend surgery only after failure of conservative treatment, inadequate enlargement of diastasis, or its recurrence.

How to find a business consultant when there are only infogypsies around – Career on vc.

How not to run into a “dummy”, what KPI to set for a consultant and what he should do (and what is better to leave behind).

3757
views

I am the managing partner of Uplift.club, the leading tracker of IIDF and Skolkovo Moscow School of Management. I want to share my thoughts on the role of a business consultant and how he can help the company (I myself have been doing this for 12 years).

Case study

A few years ago, I was a visiting consultant and business development expert for a now very well-known company. But then she just got up on her feet. The goal of the company’s management was to achieve certain financial indicators by the required date. One problem: no one inside the business understood how to achieve this.

We thought about how to restructure sales in order to get a multiple growth. The company focused on direct sales, and in the stream of “OS” the company simply did not notice another point of growth.

The business had a resource in the form of an affiliate network, but the same network also sold competitors, that is, it was not exclusive. Only every tenth partner sold something, and only every tenth of the remaining ones sold a lot. It was about units of successful partners. I asked, why do 99% of the affiliate network sell us inactively? We found out what the problem was, changed the scheme of work, conditions and switched resources to a new model of interaction with partners. It is due to the growth in the “affiliate” that we have fulfilled the global goal.

This example shows how useful a consultant can be. Next, let’s talk about who it is.

What is a consultant really

In Russia, the concept of “business consultant” has become almost abusive. If you collect stereotypes, then this is a person who loves self-promotion, gives advice, does not really like to work and never subscribes to the result. Unfortunately, this image has a foundation. However, this does not mean that it is impossible to find a good business consultant in Russia.

Working with a consultant is exactly what a job is. With analysis, immersion in reports, mathematics, complex analytics. And at the same time – this is a flight, a strategy, a look ahead

I propose to immediately dot the i’s: a consultant is an expert who has participated in the growth of hundreds of companies, and therefore is able to effectively diagnose “sores” and suggest ways to solve them.

The question “How to find a good business consultant?” comparable to “How to find a good doctor?”. If the specialist is experienced, he needs less data to prescribe a treatment. At the same time, it is obvious that an experienced doctor is much less likely to make a mistake. A still inexperienced doctor is able to harm the patient, but we will leave this out of the picture.

How to help a person if he goes to a doctor, goes for diagnostics, writes down a list of medicines, and then ignores the treatment?

Let’s continue in the language of analogies. The doctor will not monitor the medication, because the patient must do it himself. It’s the same with business consultants: you can listen to them halfway and not follow the “recipe”. As with doctors, there are general practice consultants and private professionals: financial consultants, development consultants, etc.

How to find a business consultant: a consultant will help you find a problem within the business and offer a solution, but instead of the owner, he will not stand at the “helm”. That’s why he’s called a “consultant” and not a “director.”

How not to get to the information gypsies

Human society is based on stratification according to experience – some have more of it, some have less. Therefore, it is normal when a more “watchful” person gives advice. It might even be his job.

Here’s the thing – there is a risk of running into a charlatan who sells himself and promises success (it doesn’t matter what meaning you put into this word). Usually such people are called infogypsies. Can they be useful? If you are charged with motivational meetings and media movement, then yes. However, business consulting is completely different.

The key difference is that consulting is always personal. This is a story about finding a solution that will help a particular customer, or about a reasoned conclusion why there is no such solution.

Summarizing, the message of infogypsy can be reduced to a logical formula:

You can do everything → see how many people could
→ they followed the advice → why are you sitting there?

In fact, the same tips and models apply to everyone. Success or failure depends on statistical error. It is unlikely that this will suit you.

So, there are three key differences: detailed diagnostics, attitude and real experience. A real consultant will not do his best to convince you that when he comes, everything will work out. Smart people are careful and don’t waste words.

How to find a business consultant: a good consultant will first understand whether he can help the company, and then whether he wants to help (the human factor has not yet been canceled).

How do you know if a consultant is bad?

I will single out four signs that give out an unsuitable expert. Stay away from those.

– Guarantees 100% effect. Usually they say this when they are trying to sell a service by all available means.

– Asks for an expensive contract for a long time. This is usually motivated by a “cumulative” effect. In order for the work to work, the consultant and the customer must match each other in terms of temperament, thought patterns, and other factors. Such things are difficult to know in advance, so it is better not to burden yourself with the promise of a long and happy life.

– Unwillingness to subscribe for the result. The KPI issue is generally a cornerstone topic. If you do not fix the criteria for success, it turns out that the company invites a person to have an interesting time at their own expense. On the other hand, no one knows what insights the consultant will gather. It may turn out that the KPI set at the beginning is not at all what you really need to strive for.

My position: KPI is mandatory, but very unexpected – we’ll talk about it in the next section.

– Questionable reputation. To find a business consultant, type his name into a search engine and read what they write about him. Ask the opinions of colleagues, other clients, let the consultant talk about his cases.

How to find a business consultant: an expert works for results, not self-promotion and “manipulation” of a client into a brighter future. If you doubt an expert, just read about him on the Internet, study the regalia and successful projects.

How to find a business consultant if you need guarantees

The most common question I hear is about guarantees and KPIs. In fact, the answer is simple.

I offer clients a monthly contract. In fact, this is an open-ended contract, in which the business owner decides every month whether to continue cooperation with me or not. If there is a result, the business is developing, everyone is happy – excellent, we continue to work. If there is no benefit, we calmly disperse.

The last option is extremely rare, because I don’t take on cases where I don’t see the benefit of my expertise. Another such KPI gives direct motivation to “plow”, get involved and show results.

Let me explain my position. The final result is received by the company’s team, and the consultant only directs it. If the growth is obvious, no one thinks whose merit it is. Did the invited expert do a good job or did the team implement his strategy in their own way, but did not say anything? Both options are possible.

The result of a business with a consultant is a joint child. Who is more important: dad or mom? Naturally, both.

Questions arise when the business owner is not satisfied with the result. The expert advises the wrong thing, or did the team make a mistake? Relationships can take a very long time.

How to find a business consultant: remember that you have to work in a mode of high uncertainty. Tasks will change all the time, so locking yourself into KPIs at the start is not a good idea. After a complete diagnosis, this is possible, but it is better to think about a monthly contract.

A business consultant is not a “magic pill” leading to success. An expert will help diagnose the problem and make recommendations, but decisions are up to the owner. It is worth remembering that interaction with a consultant is a full-fledged work that can reveal systemic shortcomings in a business. You just need to be ready for this.

Way to the West

I grew up on the outskirts of Ulan-Ude, in the small village of Vostochny. All roads then led to the main public place for adults – the aircraft factory. In the tenth grade, we were given a tour of the main workshop, where they showed robots and bodies of unfinished helicopters. On that day, I imagined myself as a factory engineer: here I am giving instructions to the workers, here I am walking home, and around the field and garages, and at home – the family is not fed, and the pension is already on the nose. Here the attack of industrial romanticism disappeared. I clearly realized that I wanted to run away from banality. I need to go where history is made. To the west.

Soon, the visiting committee of Moscow State University came to our city and arranged the Spring Olympiad. I chose the most mysterious specialty for myself – philosophy. Complete ignorance of English made me stand out from the crowd. During the exam, I melancholy improvised, and the teachers laughed. They enrolled me in the university. So I moved to Moscow. And there the dormitory turned out to be more interesting than the university, healthy sleep was more important than missed couples. By the time I became addicted to studying, I had already been given a diploma with a strange specialty “Philosopher. Philosophy teacher.

For me, the prospect of becoming a teacher or an office clerk meant a slow death.

I entered graduate school at my faculty and decided to write part of my dissertation abroad. Here the faculty turned out to be a weak assistant. I myself sifted through all the student exchange options, and got to the rector’s office. There, in the foreign department, my enthusiasm was received very coolly. “Where did you come from, upstart girl?” — I read in the motionless glances of the employees.

For a year of paperwork, I managed to slightly stir up their sleepy kingdom. However, it turned out that I had no chance of getting to Spain, where only philology students go. That the agreement with the Mexican university does not work. That I can go to Chile only for my own, very big money.

The rejection only strengthened my resolve. On the Internet, I found two suitable scholarships with an extremely simple application mechanism: no exams or interviews, just fill out an online form on time. I decided to start with a scholarship from the Spanish government MAEC-AECID, and soon received an extremely polite refusal. Then I decided to try Erasmus Mundus.

Erasmus Mundus: what it is and how to get there

When the Europeans decided to unite, they came up with the Erasmus internal student exchange program. Mundus is the recent expansion of Erasmus to the whole world. Its task is to make Europe friends with other parts of the world. For this, interdisciplinary master’s programs were created, the list of which hangs on the main website. They are designed to bring Europeans and foreigners together in one audience.

The highlight of Mundus is mandatory mobility. In 1-2 years, students manage to get diplomas from two to four European universities. In the year of my admission (2010), the grant for a two-year study of a non-European (category A scholarship) was 40,000 euros. To apply for it, you need to choose a maximum of three master’s programs, and fill out questionnaires on their official pages. In January-February, university representatives gather, read applications, select students for themselves and distribute their future places of study (“mobility”). Already in March, applicants can receive letters with the results of the competition.

Mine arrived at the beginning of April. I remember how I opened the email with trembling hands, how I slid my eyes over the congratulations and came across the magical “accepted”. Do you agree to a scholarship with mobility from Oviedo to Lodz? Yes!

University of Oviedo (University of Asturias)

Asturians consider it the best in the country, which is pointless to argue with. Spain has always been a place of centrifugal culture. The provinces – the former kingdoms – laugh at Madrid for stupidity, and dislike Barcelona for greed and snobbery. They sing of their native land and identify themselves with local territories. One of my friends to the question “where are you from?” simply replies: “From the Roses quarter in Gijón.” This is me to the fact that, having arrived in the north of Spain, out of habit, I expected to see a small provincial university forgotten by the world. And she discovered the very embodiment of the pride and independence of the Principality of Asturias – a giant university with campuses in three cities: Oviedo, Gijón and Mieres.

I studied at the El Milan Humanities Campus in Oviedo. Classes were held in the seminary given over to the barracks during the war. Nearby, in the Old Town, there is a 17th-century stone box. Once upon a time, the first faculties huddled here: arts, law and theology. Now all the solemn ceremonies are held, and on the second floor the ancient library creaks with the floorboards. Engineers and economists were the luckiest. They study on the outskirts of Gijón, by the sea. Imagine a field, and on it are giant semicircular hangars. The futuristic idyll is broken by the harsh “fortress” of La Laboral with a chapel in the middle, built by Franco for orphans of the civil war. Tours are given there, concerts are held there.

About my studies: my experience

Studying at the University of Oviedo in itself did not impress me much. Each course was divided into modules so that one subject was read to us by four teachers in turn. There was a feeling of chaos and fragmentation of the transmitted knowledge. The advantage of this approach, however, was active networking. Professors from Spain, the USA, Great Britain and Latin America often flew into our light. We spoke “you” and drank wine after classes.

Our state-of-the-art teachers tolerated tardiness but meticulously noted absenteeism.

They welcomed independent thinking, but rarely accepted dissent. Therefore, their couples were rather boring. They built a final score (maximum of 10 points), mercilessly summing up the scores for the visit, activity, and final essay. However, before bringing in her system, they gave us a week to discuss. We bargained for the result.

It was difficult to study in Spanish in the first months. I perfectly understood the teachers, but from discussions with classmates (we studied with 20 Spaniards) I often “flew out”. They constantly screwed in words and phrases that were unfamiliar to me, including swear words. I bought a year-long Spanish course at the University House of Languages. It became my outlet, but the evenings spent with local friends over cider helped more.

How to apply

In 2009, the university launched the ad futurum program aimed at modernizing the educational process and expanding international relations. Now the campuses are teeming with foreign students, mostly those who come under Erasmus and exchange agreements. But our brother can do it on his own. First you need to decide on the direction.

There are three levels in the Spanish system: grado (bachelor), posgrado (master) and doctorado (PhD). Those who have completed three university courses in Russia can already apply for a master’s program. They accept without exams, but a diploma of previous education must at least somehow correspond to the chosen direction. Especially for those entering the natural sciences. Those who want to start from scratch should think about grado, where basic knowledge is given. They go there, like we do, after school, according to the results of entrance exams, which take place twice a year – in June and September.

The Russians will have to deal with documents. It is better to clarify their list by contacting the secretariat of a particular program. The standard requirement is a translated and apostilled diploma, a certificate of knowledge of Spanish, and, of course, money in a bank account.

How much does it cost

The University of Oviedo is public. This means that all students pay a fixed amount for their education, which is less than with private universities. For Spaniards, prices for grado this year ranged from 30 to 12 euros per credit (a conventional unit for indicating the relative “weight” of study programs), for posgrado – from 26 to 50 euros per credit, depending on the specialty. Due to the crisis, foreigners are now asking twice as much. The cost of a year of study can be calculated by multiplying the cost of a loan by their total number (60 per year) and adding 50-100 euros for administrative costs.

Scholarships

There are enough of them at the university, but most are designed for locals or foreigners with a residence permit. Some of my non-European acquaintances have secured financial support through their academic advisors. You can participate in various monetary competitions, for example, in the all-Spanish competition of student scientific papers.

Where to live

It is possible and necessary to settle in student apartments, as most people do. This is two to three times cheaper than university residences. For the first time, I agreed on housing in advance, back in the summer, straight from Russia. The secretaries of my program put me in touch with a girl whose apartment in Oviedo had a room vacant.

For a whole year I lived within a minute walk from the campus, twenty minutes from the main cathedral, together with a Cameroonian, a Japanese woman and a Ukrainian woman.

From the window I saw the park and snow-capped mountains, and paid 200 euros per month plus 20 for utilities. It turned out that in Oviedo the private sector is very developed, and therefore housing prices are low. Students easily find rooms and actively move from place to place all year round.

Features of the country

“Destination” in Oviedo I met with apprehension because of rumors of bad weather. Upon arrival, I realized that the myth of the rainy north was invented by southerners, for whom every cloud is an event. However, the rains start suddenly. That is why the locals always have an umbrella and rubber boots – “katyushkas” at hand.

Most Asturians live and work between Oviedo, Gijon and Aviles. Oviedo is considered the business capital: the government, parliament and central offices are located there, ladies in mink coats and fashionably dressed caballeros walk there. I fell in love with Oviedo for the buzzing labyrinths of the Old Town, for the coffee with milk on the terrace by the cathedral, for the streets of cider and wine, for those half an hour walk to the suburbs where the villagers milk their goats.

But if I ever return to Asturias, I will choose Gijón.

Gijon is full of life in its splendor: hippies meet the sunset, yogis meet the dawn, old women get wet in salty pools, feminists rally, endless festivals and fairs are in the squares.

The people of Khikhon probably don’t even notice how impossibly friendly they are. For a friend, I was a “precious beauty”, for a cashier in a supermarket – a “goddess”. And the waiter in the coffee shop could say enough: “My queen, donuts will be in a minute.” So I returned to my homeland with a very inflated ego.

“”

Spaniards greatly value the human right to rest, health and pleasure. Hence the closed shops on Sunday, the endless coffee breaks, and my unencumbered study schedule. Asturian cities are planned for ordinary people, mostly elderly pedestrians. There are many parks, benches in convenient places, bike paths and outdoor exercise equipment. The calculation for an ordinary person is visible in moderate, if not ridiculous prices. Horseback riding lessons cost me 10 euros apiece. The surf lesson cost the same in the low season (in high season – 15 euros).

The last thing Asturians will give up is coffee. Eating and drinking for them is not just a pleasure, but a way of communication. Take, for example, the famous Asturian cider. It is drunk in a circle from one glass, in one gulp in two or three sips. Moreover, the waiter pours, who himself determines the successful moment of the repetition. In the evenings, tired Asturians fill the siderium bars, and the hubbub begins. The choir periodically includes dogs and small children who are accustomed to the sounds and flavors of social life. And here you are sitting on the terrace of a bar under the stars, making small talk, draining bottle after bottle in small portions, eating fried seafood, and when it’s time to say goodbye, you get up. .. and immediately fall.

Advice for Erasmus Mundus applicants

  1. It is important to honestly write down all your achievements and hobbies in your CV, up to winning the school dance championship on the teacher’s desk.
  2. And also turn your boring motivation letter into a short sparkling detective story.
  3. When choosing a master, it is better to focus on your background – professional and educational. Otherwise, it is difficult to prove that your decision to go into animal husbandry or theater is not just a whim. Teachers are looking for professionals. No one is interested in learning the basics. I wanted to save the world without having the slightest idea of what a humanitarian action is. Not surprisingly, I received the earliest rejection response from the corresponding course (NOHA). In Spanish Studies (my subject), I was put on a waiting list (MULTIELE). But they accepted to the Faculty of Philosophy for Gender Studies (GEMMA).
  4. Each master has his own deadline for applying for a scholarship, but on average – from October to December of each year. Three months is more than enough to collect the necessary package of documents. Another thing is language certificates. I contacted TOEFL at the end of September, and I was given the exam only in mid-November. I had to score the required number of points the first time.
  5. The head of our program in Oviedo once admitted that hundreds of strong applications come to them. They argue about favorites with foam at the mouth and almost to the point of a fight. Only one or two people are selected, and the decisions are very subjective, and largely depend on how the stars rise. And for them to stand in your favor, it is important to believe in victory, but still not really rely on it.

What year should children start school? We asked the experts | Marianne Fenech, Sarah Ayoub, Ben Edwards and Pasi Sahlberg

On Tuesday the New South Wales education minister, Sarah Mitchell, said lifting the school starting age to the year a child turns six would reduce large age gaps and put students on a more equal footing. It follows an announcement in June that NSW and Victoria would overhaul the early education sector, effectively adding an extra year. Four experts explain the advantages and challenges of such changes:

‘Affordability remains a key barrier’

The NSW government’s proposal to lift the school starting age to the year a child turns six has potential to benefit children but it will only work if the longstanding workforce crisis – exacerbated by Covid – is addressed.

I appreciate the intent to reduce the discrepancy in ages and abilities of children when they start school. This is an incredible challenge for kindergarten teachers, particularly when we know that families send their children to school before they are ready because school is more affordable than childcare. And we know this is a problem because one in five children are starting school developmentally vulnerable.

Children effectively attending for an additional year (the year they turn five) will only benefit if the service they are attending is providing quality early learning programs.

The workforce crisis poses a significant threat to the quality of early education. Enrolments in early childhood teacher education course are declining and many early teachers choose to leave early childhood to work in a school where they can earn up to $30,000 more a year.

The sector already needs an extra 7,000 early childhood teachers by 2024 if services are to meet regulatory requirements. The proposal has the potential to increase demand but from where the quality early childhood teacher workforce will come remains unclear.

We need to think carefully about what such a proposal will mean for children in families experiencing disadvantage. We know that the children who stand to benefit most from attending a quality early education service are also the least likely to attend, even if they are enrolled. Affordability remains a key barrier.

The NSW initiatives to improve children’s access to early education are welcome. But as these polices are rolled out the state government will need to ensure that not only are more children attending early learning services, but that the quality of these services is of the standard children need and deserve.

‘Parents must have the opportunity to decide’

I have three children who are vastly different in terms of their learning styles, skills and interests. My eldest knew her alphabet at 18 months old and was reading short picture books at four, and four years on she’s flourishing as one of the top students in her grade despite being born one day short of the cut-off. Holding her back, I believe, would have been detrimental to her potential. By contrast, my son will start school unable to identify more than a handful of letters despite the extensive efforts of both his parents and the staff at his preschool.

I believe parents must have the opportunity to decide for themselves (within reason) the path that is right for their child. Of course, this all depends on what the government’s plan will actually look like for families, because at present the details are far from clear.

While I understand the merits of raising the starting school age so more children are on an even footing when they begin, the reality is that no matter how they begin, the educational experiences of our children will never be equal. The difference in funding between public schools and private schools, the mass tutoring uptake by some families and the fact that some teachers are burnt-out and some families – due to work commitments or language/cultural barriers – can’t help their kids with homework will entrench inevitable differences.

If the government plans to fund this program in its entirety, then it’s a conversation I’m willing to have. But having a child starting school is liberating for parents who are juggling care and work duties, often with workplaces who are not as progressive as they could be in terms of flexible working arrangements. The cost of childcare, which hits families hard without the added burdens of inflation and rising interest rates, must be addressed if we are planning on keeping our kids away from school another year. I have always firmly believed that the best place for the child is their family or their “village”, but life is less and less like a village these days and the fact that it is mostly disadvantaged families who send their kids to school before they’re ready because it saves childcare costs and frees parents up to work tells us that are there more pressing matters the state ought to address to even out our children’s lives. A lack of equality has a ripple effect.

‘This could reduce the wide age ranges in the classroom’

NSW students have some of the highest rates of delayed entrants in the world. Our research suggests 25% of students start school in the year after they are eligible and, for those parents who have a choice in the matter (who have children born between January and July), 44% are delayed. As a consequence, children range in ages from four and a half to six in the first year of school. Children starting school at younger ages have lower levels of school readiness than older children and more socioeconomically advantaged parents are more likely to choose to delay, thus widening gaps in school readiness by socioeconomic status.

Will raising the school age reduce these gaps? For many parents, having older children may mean that they are more likely to send their child to school on time. If the NSW government also reduces the opportunity to delay school start (from between January and July to, say, January and April, as in Victoria), this could reduce the wide age ranges in the classroom.

‘Early childhood education in NSW works as an un-equaliser’

Moving the school starting age to the year a child turns six is a great improvement to the situation in NSW but only if the government will keep its early promise to provide universal free public early childhood education (kindergarten) to all five-year-olds.

Lifting the school starting age is part of much larger effort to improve lives of children in NSW. Research examining the benefits of starting formal schooling earlier is not consistent.Early childhood education in NSW works as an “un-equaliser” because it gives children from affluent and disadvantaged families very different conditions. If the NSW government goes about these changes the right way, they may act as much-needed improvements in educational equity.

I would suggest the following three things be important in putting these reforms into practice.

First, early childhood education (including primary school) needs to be designed in terms of a child’s rights. Play, wellbeing and whole-child development should be the key principles.

Second, every five-year-old should have the right to attend a high-quality public preschool. It should be the government’s responsibility to make sure this right is protected, and that well-educated teachers and educators are working in every school.

Third, the first years of primary school should be redesigned so that they provide a seamless, play-based transition from early childhood education. This design should consider children’s individual differences, focus on learning and wellbeing, and avoid unnecessary assessments and tests.

Most importantly, lifting the school starting age to six should not mean that the first years of primary school become a time to catch up on academic content children were supposed to learn before.

This proposal by the NSW government is a real opportunity to redesign the educational pathway of every child to improve not just lifelong learning but also to remove the burden placed on many parents who want nothing more than to give their children the best education they can have.

Starting primary school in Victoria

The law in Victoria states that children must attend school from the age of 6. To enrol in government school, a child must turn 5 before 30 April of the year they start school.

There can be exemptions to the age policy, but these are very rare. For more information on school admission and the law, see the Department of Education’s School Policy and Advisory GuideExternal Link.

1. Choose your school

  • In Victoria, there are 2 main types of schools:

    • Government (or ‘public’) schools, administered by the Department of Education
    • Non-government (or ‘Independent’) schools, which includes private schools and religious schools

Understanding the different types of schools can help you decide which school is right for you and your child. For children with disability or additional needs, this may be a mainstream government school or a specialist government school. For more information, visit Starting school for children with disability.

To learn more about Catholic schools, visit Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic SchoolsExternal Link. For more information about independent schools, visit Independent Schools VictoriaExternal Link.

  • Contact your local school and any other schools you are considering before you submit an application.

Schools welcome enquiries and will organise a time for you and your child to visit. Staff can provide tours, classroom visits and further information about their school.

Schools can also indicate if they have spare places for students who do not live within the school zone.

2. Enrol your child

  • If you are seeking to enrol your child in a government primary school, you should read about the statewide timeline for enrolling in Foundation (Prep).

The timeline advises when and how to enrol your child in the first year of primary school at a Victorian government school.

If you are a parent or carer of a child with disability, you may need to discuss reasonable adjustments with your school.

  • You will be required to provide the following information and documentation:

    • Evidence of identity and date of birth (for example, a birth certificateExternal Link or passport)
    • Immunisation History StatementExternal Link
    • your contact details
    • emergency contact details
    • health information about your child (such as allergies or illnesses they need to manage)

Advice for school applicants – Secondary school No. 186

Entering school is a very serious event for every child. At the same time, one quickly and easily adapts to new conditions, while for the other, changes in the usual rhythm of life are very difficult. What does it depend on? Psychological readiness for schooling plays an important role here. If you have a preschool child who is about to become a student, check how ready he is for this. And our article will help you with this.

A bit of theory

Psychological readiness for school is the readiness of a child to accept a new social situation and follow its rules. He strives to perform a new, “adult” activity, to enter a new system of relations. To do this, the internal position of the child must change, which will allow him to readily perform school tasks and subordinate his behavior to the rules.

If you send a child to school before he is ready for this, then this will lead to the fact that he does not adapt well to new conditions. Psychological unpreparedness can be expressed in:

  • Bad behavior and disobedience in the classroom. The child does not yet understand the need for schooling, does not feel interested in it. He is not ready to regulate his behavior and subject it to strict discipline. Therefore, during the lesson, such students can get up and walk around the classroom without the permission of the teacher, leave the office, run, misbehave, etc. At school, they continue to behave the same as in kindergarten or at home.
  • The desire to play even during classes. The leading activity in preschool age is the game, which gradually (as a rule, by the age of 7) is replaced by learning. If the child has not yet crossed this boundary in his development, then schoolwork will not interest him, and he will strive to play.
  • Fatigue. Some children can force themselves to follow the school rules, but the lessons will quickly bore them. The inability to focus for a long time on issues that are not interesting for them will lead to frequent distractions from classes, drowsiness, a desire to leave the classroom, etc.

In most cases, at the age of seven, a child is ready to become an apprentice. However, each small person is individual, and therefore age is not always an indicator of psychological readiness for learning. To avoid the above manifestations and protect the child from stress, before entering school, it is necessary to check whether he is ready for a new social situation.

Checking if a child is ready for schooling

Observations and research by psychologists and educators have helped to identify criteria by which one can judge whether a child is ready to sit down at a desk. Parents of preschoolers can seek advice from a specialist or solve this issue for themselves by observing their child and giving him a few simple tasks.

Observation

The following manifestations will indicate psychological readiness to change social status:

  1. The child often talks about wanting to learn. This indicates that he is already striving for a new type of activity, is interested in it. If the kid does not talk about it himself, you should ask him if he wants to go to school. A negative answer, backed up by statements such as “I’m still too young for school”, “I want to stay in kindergarten”, etc., will indicate a lack of readiness to study.
  2. There is a game to school. In this case, not only the fact of the presence of such a game is important, but also the behavior of the child during it. It is important to see how he behaves in this game situation, how long he is able to follow the instructions of the “teacher”.

It looks like this guy is ready not only to go to school, but also to work. Photo source

  1. A preschooler is eager for new activities. It can be expressed in the desire to help adults around the house, in the ability to fulfill the duties assigned to him and bear responsibility.
  2. The reaction to undeserved praise is negative. A small child does not yet understand when he is praised undeservedly, he gradually learns to determine this, but this does not upset him, but only confuses him. But at the senior preschool age, when the kid is already ready to become a student, undeserved praise will upset him, and sometimes even make him angry.
  3. When performing some kind of activity, the child focuses not only on the result, but also on the process. As a rule, a child of 5-6, and sometimes 7 years old, in any kind of activity, except for playing, is only interested in the result. And children who are ready to become schoolchildren are more interested in the mode of action, in the very processes of performing any activity.
  4. The level of arbitrariness of activity increases. This can be observed in the child’s ability to independently set some goals and objectives and purposefully go towards their implementation. At the same time, in the process of achieving the goal, distracting the future student with something interesting (for example, a new toy) is no longer as easy as before.

Also pay attention to how your child communicates with you and with other adults. Preschoolers who have crossed a certain threshold, behind which lies the ability to quickly and easily adapt to schooling, can already understand contextual communication. Those. they cease to treat all adults equally, they comprehend formal communication, they can understand not only the direct, unambiguous, but also the figurative meaning of speech. In a certain sense, older preschoolers are deprived of childish spontaneity, which makes it easier to adapt to school.

Tasks

Observation is very important, but not the only way to determine if a child is ready for school. Here it is also necessary to understand at what level of development cognitive processes (attention, memory, thinking) and fine motor skills are. For this, there are some tasks.

Draw a man

You need to ask the child to draw a man (uncle) and evaluate this drawing. At the same time, in the process of drawing, you do not need to give the baby advice, correct him and help him. If the drawn character has all the necessary components (head, torso, neck, limbs, etc.) that smoothly connect to each other, and he has elements of men’s clothing, then this indicates a high level of development of motor skills and other skills. The fewer elements a drawing has, the less synthetic it is (for example, the arms are “attached” to the body, and do not come out of it) and the more primitive (many straight lines, scribbles are present, there is no detailed drawing), the less developed skills and, therefore, the child is not yet sufficiently prepared for school.

Copy sample

You can give your child a phrase of different characters (for example, a sentence that includes Russian and English words) or 10 dots equally spaced and ask them to copy. The maximum proximity to the model, the ability to keep the line and keep the distance indicate the readiness to start training.

Answer questions

Parents can come up with questions themselves. The main thing is that they relate to different aspects, and the concepts in them are familiar to the child. Here are some examples:

  • Knowledge of colors. What color is it? The grass is green, but the sky…?
  • Knowledge of forms. What is the shape of this figure? This table is round, but that one…?
  • Knowledge of concepts. Raspberries, cherries, strawberries – is it …? Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novgorod – is it …?
  • The ability to find common / different. What do cats and dogs have in common? What is the difference between a table and a chair?
  • Ability to classify. Divide the words into two groups: cat, cow, tiger, elephant, dog, hippopotamus (wild and domestic animals).

Questions can also concern knowledge of the seasons, time of day, the ability to determine the time by watch, etc. The better the child answers questions, the higher his readiness for learning.

Remember the words

Give the child a few words, ask them to remember them and reproduce them. After the baby does this, ask how he remembered these words. If he used mediation and logical memorization (linked words together, associated them with something / someone, etc.), then this indicates a high level of development and the ability to quickly adapt to a new social situation.

Is it possible to psychologically prepare a child for school?

  1. Talk to your child about school often. At the same time, it is important to note only the positive aspects of learning: you learn a lot of new things, get to know other guys, etc. However, you need to talk about exactly how school classes go and how you need to behave in them.
  2. Take your child on a “field trip” to school. You can negotiate with the teachers of the school to which you plan to send your child and attend several school lessons with him.
  3. Homework with a child. Talk to your child about interesting things, arousing interest in learning, study colors, shapes, letters, numbers, etc. At the same time, it is important not to overload the child and engage with him only when he wants to, so as not to form a negative attitude towards learning.
  4. Drawing up a clear daily routine. It is important that the baby gets up, has breakfast, walks, exercises, etc. at a strictly defined time. It is good if this schedule is as close as possible to the one that the child will have at school.

If this does not help, the best thing to do is to leave the child in kindergarten, at home, or to take him to a special preparatory class for another year. In case of any doubt, you should contact a child psychologist and get his opinion. If there is no way to delay the child’s entry to school, then be understanding that at first he will not be able to follow the requirements of the school. During this period, it is very important to be patient, provide maximum help and support.

What documents are needed to enter the school in 2021?

posted March 31, 2021, 08:42

Photo: Mediaholding1Mi

This year the rules for admission to the first class have changed. The Ministry of Education approved a new decree, which sets out the deadlines for submitting an application.

Story

Children

Parents of prospective first-graders must submit an application from 1 April to 30 June. The enrollment order is issued three days after the end of the admission campaign. From July 6, applications for enrollment can be submitted by those who do not belong to educational institutions by registration.

In addition, the list of documents that will be required when completing the application has changed. Another innovation – there are more ways to remotely process documents.

We will answer the most exciting questions of parents: What documents are needed to enroll in school? At what age can a child be sent to school? When does registration open? How can I find out which school my child is assigned to? Can a child be denied admission to first grade?

At what age do children go to school?

By and large, the family decides at what age it is better to send their child to the first grade. Some parents are in a hurry to send their child to school upon reaching the age of 6, while others prefer not to rush things and register the child in an educational institution at 8 years old.

The federal law “On Education in the Russian Federation” indicates the approximate age of first-graders. It says that the optimal age for starting school is from 6.5 years old and no later than 8 years old.

“Receiving primary general education in educational institutions begins when children reach the age of six years and six months in the absence of contraindications for health reasons, but no later than they reach the age of eight years,” the law on education says.

When can I apply for school?

In the past, parents of first-graders had to worry about enrolling in school in advance. As a rule, active filing of applications was carried out in the winter. This year, the admissions campaign starts on April 1st and will run until June 30th. These terms are indicated for those who will study in a school fixed by registration, as well as for those families that have a preferential right (older brothers or sisters study in this institution, a family member is employed in this institution).

The next round of school enrollment starts on 6 July. Those who do not live in the assigned area will be enrolled in vacant places. By September 5, a list of all students should be formed.

If there are no places left in the classes, the Department of Education is obliged to provide the family with assistance in placing the child in another school.

The authorities of Udmurtia believe that there will be no problems with the admission of first-graders in the region, because additional places will be created for first-graders in schools. Mayor of Izhevsk Oleg Bekmemetiev assures that there will be enough places for everyone.

“In 2021, Izhevsk schools will create 632 additional places for first-graders. There will be enough places for everyone!” the head of the city emphasized.

How do I find out which school my child is enrolled in?

Assignment of educational institutions to specific areas takes place later than March 15th. By March 25, on the official website of the city administration, on the websites of schools, regulations must be published, in which the addresses and institutions attached to them are registered. For example, on the website of Izhevsk, by clicking on the link, you can see a list of schools with address binding of microdistricts.

If you do not have Internet access, then you need to call the city’s education department or nearby schools – they have all the lists. In extreme cases, you can personally visit the institutions.

As a rule, during the period of enrollment of children in school there are hotlines. In Udmurtia, parents will be able to find out the answers to their questions by calling: 8 (800) 302-00-18 or directly to the Ministry of Education of the Republic: 8 (3412) 223-041 and Education Department of Izhevsk: 8 (3412) 41-46-56, 41-45-59.

It is worth noting that there are a number of schools that are not assigned to the territories. As a rule, these are lyceums and gymnasiums. So, in Izhevsk, eight schools will be able to teach children from all over the city. These are lyceums No. 24, 25, 82, 86 and 98, as well as schools No. 30, 32 and Linden Grove.

Meanwhile, Economics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 29 and Lyceum No. 41 accept children by registration. These lyceums last year took first place in the ranking of schools in terms of the number of graduates entering the country’s leading universities.

How do I apply to enroll my child in a school?

You can fill out and send an application to an educational institution in different ways:

  1. You can send the completed form to the institution’s e-mail;
  2. Fill out an application on the regional portal of state and municipal services. There is a website in Udmurtia: uslugi.udmurt.ru;
  3. Submit an application via Russian Post;
  4. When visiting the school in person.

It is worth noting that many parents apply through regional portals of public services. But in previous years, the load on the portals was so high that the systems could not stand it and hung up. Anticipating this situation, the authorities arranged a “practice” day for filing applications. For example, in Udmurtia, on March 25, trial testing took place on the local public services portal. Minister of Education of the Republic Svetlana Bolotnikova said that the electronic recording will open at three o’clock in the afternoon. Parents could familiarize themselves with the service in advance, practice filling out the application. All statements will be deleted later.

Do not forget that in order to enter the public services portal, you must have an account – login and password. You can register on the portal at the MFC.

What documents are needed to enroll in school in 2021?

The order of the Ministry of Education states that when enrolling a child, the following documents may be required: an application for admission, a copy of the parent’s or legal representative’s passport, a copy of the child’s birth certificate, a copy of the child’s registration document at the place of residence, a copy of the document confirming the establishment of guardianship or guardianship, a certificate from the place of work of the parent or legal representative in the presence of the right of primary admission, a copy of the conclusion of the psychological, medical and pedagogical commission.

By the way, the statement itself has also changed. Today it will be necessary to write the addresses of both parents – where they live, where they actually are. In addition, a column appeared in the application about preferential rights when entering the first grade (older children study at the same school, one of the parents works at this school). There will also be a column on the study of the native language.

Do I need a registration and medical certificate to enroll in school?

Article 43 of the Russian Constitution states that all children are required to receive an education, and this law has nothing to do with propiska. But do not forget that, first of all, children who have a residence permit are enrolled in schools. First-graders without a residence permit apply for the remaining places in the remaining schools.

The school is also not entitled to require medical certificates. You can attach a certificate of your choice to the application. By the way, testing children to determine abilities before school is also illegal.

But still, it is better to have a certificate of form 026/у-2000 with you – it also contains a vaccination schedule. This certificate is issued in polyclinics. Many children have it (they ask for it when they enter kindergarten).

Can we be denied admission to the first class?

No one has the right to refuse you, otherwise it can be interpreted as “a direct violation of the right to receive free education,” as it is written in the Constitution of the country.

If you were refused admission for no apparent reason, then you should file a complaint with the Department of Education.

Another thing is that the institution could run out of places. In such cases, you must provide another educational institution.

Who can enroll a child in the first grade, except for mom and dad?

Mom and dad of the child or legal representatives – guardians, adoptive parents can apply for and submit an application to the first grade.

Other family members or family acquaintances can only participate in the admission campaign if they have a power of attorney certified by a notary.

How do I know if my child has been accepted to school?

According to the adopted innovations, a notice of the child’s registration at school must arrive within the first three days after the end of the admission. June 30 is the last day of admission, respectively, to notify about admission to school should be in early July.

Labour and Birth:

Lovely labour at home and home water birth video.

Very graphic video of a family with a midwife in hospital having an unmedicated birth. You will notice the mother has a monitor attached to her belly during this video – we call this continuous electronic fetal monitoring. It also shows a brief moment where “gas and air” or nitronox is being used for a contraction. The video shows the baby crowning in an all fours position, the “burning ring of fire” and delivery.

Ricki Lake discusses reasons for choosing a natural birth and ultimately a home birth with her full length documentary “The Business of Being Born”.

Home birth demonstrating delivering a baby in a squatting position. Mildly graphic scenes.

Short video on a hands off home water birth in an all fours position. Some graphic scenes. Owner of the video appreciates comments on the vimeo webpage! Please let them know if you enjoyed their birthing experience & if it has inspired you to have your baby at home 🙂

Explicit home birth video. Contains graphic scenes.

Contractions using a balloon

British TV show – this video shows how intense contractions can become when having a baby. This family is giving birth in a hospital environment using Nitrous Oxide gas for pain management. There are some mildly graphic scenes.

This is a step by step video based in Saskatchewan on a planned c-section birth, it contains some useful pointers as to what a c-section may look like (with some slight differences depending on which hospital you are giving birth). If your midwife is present, she will provide newborn care and discharge your baby unless your baby is in the NICU.

Epidural placement at LHSC hospital.

This gives a short guide on how to clean bottles, pumping equipment, soothers, and any other feeding equipment you may be using to feed your baby or use for pumping your breast milk. The video shows a steam sterilizer, but other sterilizers can be used, or you can watch videos of a boiling method, if you prefer.

Techniques on how to burp your baby.

A short video demonstrating skin to skin after birth and in the postpartum.

No demonstration, but outlines the benefits of skin to skin with your baby.

Midwife Penny Simkin discusses delayed cord clamping – a NORMAL practice every midwife uses unless a significant complication with the baby requires us to cut the cord immediately. Obstetricians are beginning to practice delayed cord clamping.

Baby CPR taught by the St. John Ambulance in UK. This is an easy how to perform baby CPR in the form of a musical video. It features characters like Humpty Dumpty and Jack and Jill.

14 baby birth videos that (really) prepare you for the big day

Your belly is growing, and so is your anticipation. After months of doctor’s appointments, swollen feet, backaches and developing an unstoppable nesting habit, you’re totally ready for labor and delivery. But the unpredictable nature of childbirth can make any parent-to-be worry themselves into a frenzy over what may or may not happen on delivery day. The best way to prepare yourself for any stressful situation is to get a realistic understanding of how events might play out, and watching birth videos is a fantastic way to do just that.

“In the U.S. today, it’s very common for people to have never seen a delivery before the birth of their own baby,” says Jocelyn Alt, the founder and doula at Ohana Parents. “Seeing baby birth videos can help parents envision different scenarios of what they can expect during their own experience. Watching [real] birthing videos can dispel some of the false, overly dramatic images portrayed in movies and TV.”

Whatever type of birth experience you are planning on having, watching the birthing videos below will give you a well-rounded idea of what could happen and help prepare you for labor and delivery.

1. An unmedicated labor and hospital water birth

If you’re considering laboring without an epidural, this video gives you a good idea of what that experience will be like. As an added bonus, it also shows what it’s like to have a peaceful water birth at a hospital.

2. Start to finish birth of a “veteran mom”

@hortonlane

What it’s like to give birth! Come with me as I deliver my 5th baby. When I was pregnant with my first baby I had no idea what to expect when giving birth. I wish I had someone to walk me through how long labor could potentially be, the interventions that are used, and what my options were. So I decided to document and share my entire birthing experience from start to finish. I begin recording as my first serious contractions took place. I had been experiencing Braxton Hicks for several weeks at this point, but on this day the contractions were different. They were stronger and I could feel my whole uterus contracting, rather than just a localized area. They became stronger and I began breathing heavier. That’s when I knew the contractions needed to be timed. They say you know it’s time to leave for the hospital when your contractions are happening at least every 5 minutes, last for one minute each, and have been happening consistently for 1 hour. It’s called the 5-1-1 rule. I birth big babies, I am talking over 10 lbs, and never once was a c-section mentioned to me just because of their size. I have had an epidural for all my births so for baby number 5 I really wanted to try to have an unmedicated birth. Unfortunately I didn’t make it. I was close, but I knew I would lack the strength to push if I continued to suffer and fight the pain. I have actually enjoyed my epidural births! They allowed me to relax and be more present for the experience. Being able to relax is key too. Each time I tried to birth unmedicated labor wouldn’t progress. Please note, this is just my personal experience. Everyone is going to have a different birth story 🤗❤️ #givingbirthbelike #birthstory #birthstorytime #pregnantmama #pregnancyvlog #momtobe2023 #hospitalbag #givingbirthisnojoke #postpartumrecovery #10lbsbaby #hospitalbirth #hospitalbagessentials #pregnantmama #41weekspregnant #epiduralbirth #naturalbirth #unmedicatedbirth

♬ original sound – Chrissy Horton

Popular TikTok creator Chrissy Horton recently documented her entire birth experience from start to finish when she gave birth to baby number five (!). Not only does Horton show her pre-hospital prep (doing her other kids’ laundry), she gets real, showing her “shaking” from the epidural and freaking out about taking an elevator. Definitely worth a watch.

3. Dad delivers baby

As everyone knows, things don’t always go as planned, and in this birth video, dad winds up delivering his baby, as mom’s labor progressed faster than anyone expected. Additionally, mom delivers on all fours in this video instead of on her back, which is common practice.

4. An unmedicated vaginal birth in a hospital

In this uplifting birth video, The Dainty Pear takes you through her unmedicated birth experience. Surrounded by her family and a super supportive hospital staff, she will inspire any soon-to-be mom who is interested in a natural birth.

5. A hospital birth with an epidural

Watch this birth video if you are thinking of getting an epidural in the hospital. This mom’s experience is uplifting and emotional, and she’s assisted by an amazing nurse and a caring anesthesiologist.

6. A C-section birth in a hospital

Whether or not you think you are going to deliver via C-section, it’s good to have an idea of what the procedure involves. In this video, a newborn baby is birthed via C-section to an emotional and overjoyed mom and dad — and it’s beautifully captured by the parents themselves.

“Videos by parents often show love for the partner and child, play soft music and show how beautiful birth can be,” says birth and postpartum doula Stephanie Heintzeler. “Professional videos always have a message, either about natural childbirth or medical interventions.”

7. A natural C-section birth

A natural C-section birth is a cesarean with minimal doctor interference. After the doctor makes the incision, the baby essentially wiggles out on their own. This educational birth video shows just that.

8. A VBAC (vaginal birth after C-section) birth

Some moms who had a C-section with their first babies are able to deliver vaginally the second time around. If you’re curious about what a VBAC would be like, this birth video has all the information you need.

9. A home birth

If you are considering giving birth to your baby at home, watch this video for an inspiring look at how beautiful a home birth can be.

“Birth videos are helpful for gaining comfort with the sights and sounds of birth and to see comfort measures, plus a range of experiences,” notes Karen Laing, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), perinatal educator and founder of Birthways.

10. A water birth at home

This mom makes giving birth seem like a breeze. If you’re interested in a water birth, this video taking you through the labor, delivery and afterbirth makes you feel like you’re right in the room with her.

11. A vaginal multiples birth

Pregnant with twins (or more) and freaking out about delivery? Watching this twin birth video will make you feel empowered and get you ready for your own birth experience.

12. A C-section multiples birth

Again, whether you’re planning on having a C-section birth with your twins or not, it’s good to get an idea of what may happen. In this video, the angle is mostly on mom, but this twin C-section video shows the surgery aspect.

13. A premature birth

No one really plans on having their baby come early, but in some circumstances it can’t be helped. This honest portrayal of a premature birth and everything that comes after it will have you crying happy tears the whole way through.

14. A baby born in the amniotic sac

A baby being born “en caul” (still in the amniotic sac) is actually extremely rare. Only one in every 80,000 babies are born this way, but this miraculous type of birth is worth seeing.

What is Taobao?

Taobao is the largest online shopping site. The popularity of the store has long spread beyond China: millions of Internet users have already appreciated the benefits of this service. The Taobao catalog includes thousands of items from clothing to household items. Taobao is not only a rich choice, but also attractive prices. Due to the large turnover, the portal can sell products directly: with a minimum margin.

Today, cheap goods from China can also be bought in Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, it is not at all necessary to go to the official Taobao website, because there is Taobao in Russian – BISHTAO.KG

BISHTAO.KG – the entire catalog of the Chinese Taobao online store in Russian!

The Russian version of Taobao makes ordering goods from China as easy as ordering from any online store. To select products, use a structured catalog or smart search on the site. Once a suitable product is selected, you can place an order.

BISHTAO.KG is not just the best intermediary between Chinese Taobao seller and buyer.

South Carolina Children’s Theatre provides half-day summer camps for students ages 3 – 12th grade in acting, musical theatre, creative storytelling, theatrical design, improvisation, and more!

Caregivers can address any questions with SCCT Registrar Jill Wolf at 864.235.2885 ext. 105 (Mon, Tues, or Thur till 2:30 PM) or by email at [email protected].

About SCCT’s Education Program
Established in 1992, SCCT’s Theatre Arts Conservatory is a year-round program for students ages 3-18. The format includes Advanced-Level Studios, Intermediate, Process, Musical Theatre, Story Drama, and Exploration Classes, as well as Specialty Classes & Workshops. Each format offers unique games, activities, and challenges for the theatre student.

We believe that theatre arts training is like any other form of training; the more you do it, the better you get. Just as a dancer takes class after class of ballet; or a soccer player trains year after year with a team, theatre arts training is most effective when the student is repeatedly exposed to vocabulary, theories, and exercises. At SCCT, we hope to provide a variety of creative opportunities that encourage creative thinking, develop verbal and social skills, and bolster self-esteem. Skills needed for any job, not just acting.

Teremok private children’s camp in the St.

Petersburg.

0002 Autumn holidays

Magic city

“Teremok” – vacation programs in St. Petersburg, where you can relax, play sports, dance, music, creativity, foreign languages, in an unobtrusive way fill in the gaps in the school curriculum or actively prepare for admission .

Children from 2 to 5 years old in the kindergarten group and from 6 to 11 years old in the elementary school group have a rest here with benefit and pleasure. Very convenient for brothers and sisters.

About “Teremok”

“Teremok” is what will make the holidays unforgettable for every child, while parents do not have to take a vacation from work and be distracted from their work. Many people are prejudiced against such a variant of children’s recreation. And absolutely in vain, as the camp for children can offer:

  • comfortable conditions;
  • walks in the park, hiking
  • Swimming in the pool and exercising in the gym
  • services of a speech therapist, psychologist;
  • English and French
  • studios of contemporary dance and theatrical circle;
  • outdoor games;
  • book club and intellectual quizzes;
  • classes in art studio

Additional holidays for first graders

Traditionally, children go to summer camp. But we will be glad to meet you during the spring, autumn or winter holidays. We are good all year round!

Please specify the duration of the shift, date, place and current cost when booking.

The children’s camp is located in an ecologically clean area, not far from the city, you can get here by private transport or by bus, and this is also a great advantage if you want to visit the child or need to pick him up before the end of the shift. You can also take a preliminary orientation tour to be 100% sure that your child will be in decent conditions and safe hands.

The thought of the upcoming holidays and the eternal question “Where to put the child?” will no longer disturb you – come to the children’s camp “Teremok”. Call and book in advance, the number of places is limited.
