Let’s dwell on this in more detail.
What should be the sleep pattern of a child up to a year old so that he grows up healthy, smart and happy?
In the first months of life, 20 hours of sleep for a child is the norm. It is not necessary to disturb the child’s sleep schedule: we should not influence the baby’s rest, as this can harm the health of the child, especially at this tender age. The cycles and phases of sleep in babies change from month to month, according to how their brain grows and develops.
Scientists believe that sleep in the first weeks after birth is especially important and is a continuation of the behavior of the child in the embryonic state. Therefore, the baby knows for himself when it is time for him to eat and sleep. In the first 2-3 months of his life, if the baby is not bothered by anything, a long rest for him is the norm. Knowing this, parents can begin to form the correct daily routine for their baby from the age of 4 months.
If we recall the data from the table above, it becomes clear that the sleep of an infant and the sleep pattern of a child up to the first year of life differ significantly from each other. What are the differences in sleep by months of a child up to a year of life?
Sleep from 1 to 3 months of life
This period of life is characterized by high sleep duration: from 16 to 19 hours a day. During this period of time, sleep (rest) is just beginning to form, the newborn often wakes up for feeding. This time is very important for the baby, parents need to learn to notice the signs of disturbed sleep, make sure that the baby does not remain active for too long and at the same time try not to wake up before the allotted time. From the 7th week of life, we can let our baby fall asleep on his own.
3 to 6 months of life
At this stage, the number of night feeds is usually reduced. At the age of 6 months, the child may completely refuse to feed at night. The baby forms a day and rest regimen: sleep hours are reduced: daytime sleep up to 3-5 hours, nighttime sleep up to 10-11 hours. It is time for the formation of bedtime rituals: quiet games, bathing, fairy tales and mother’s lullabies.
6 to 9 months of life
At the age of 8 months, the baby continues to form consciousness, separation from close relatives, most of all from his mother, begins to upset him. Games (hide-and-seek, peek-a-boo) will help prevent fear for the baby, and you can also place the place of the child’s games next to the parents: let the mother always be in sight. The child is actively developing physically. It is necessary to load the baby with active actions, but not give reasons for stress.
9 to 12 months of life
At this stage, the baby begins to follow the sequence of actions. A little more and the baby will learn to walk, now all his strength goes to the development of this skill, there is a need for sound sleep and recuperation. During this period, the first related problem arises: sleep disturbance. It is necessary to continue the formation of sleep rituals, reduce distractions that can excite the baby even more.
What are the bedtime rituals for your baby?
• ventilate the rooms where the baby sleeps before going to bed;
• remove all toys;
• taking a bath;
• make sure you go to the toilet;
• turn off the light;
• do not forget about hugs and kisses;
• let’s sing a lullaby.
As a child grows older, the sleep schedule of the child changes even more: the number of hours of sleep is reduced, including the number of hours of sleep at night. All kids are different, but still it is necessary to keep daytime sleep as long as possible, at least before school.
Parents often turn to pediatricians and neurologists with the question: what to do if the schedule of sleep and wakefulness of a child under one year old cannot be built? Sleep disorders are called: children’s behavioral insomnia, which significantly contributes to the deterioration of the quality of life of parents.
Causes of insomnia
Children’s behavioral insomnia is the result of misassociations associated with going to bed or misidentification of sleep conditions. We are talking about the right habits to fall asleep in certain conditions (for example, one in a crib) and violation of sleep patterns. For example, when a child does not agree with the place or time for sleeping, and then a lot of unreasonable pretexts begin: “I’m scared alone”, “I want to drink”, “I want to go to the toilet”.
Despite the dissatisfaction of the parents and even punishment, the child goes to bed with them every night. This form of childhood insomnia is interesting in that it does not actually cause direct harm to the child if he is able to get the normative amount of sleep during the day. But parents here suffer to a greater extent – the mothers of such children often have depressive disorders, and family relationships also suffer.
Other forms of insomnia are adaptive insomnia (a reaction to a stressful situation), psychophysiological insomnia (occurs in anxious, emotional, responsible children before an important event for them), insomnia in violation of sleep hygiene (more often occurs in adolescents who lead an evening or night life, spend too much time in bed during the day and go to bed at different times each time).
Often doctors meet with insomnia of a secondary nature, they are directly related to any health problems. For example, atopic dermatitis, which is accompanied by severe itching. And the smaller the child, the more difficult it is for us to suspect that something is bothering the child.
Itching is a kind of equivalent of pain, the child becomes irritable, whiny, it is difficult for him to fall asleep, itching forces the baby to wake up. And we, adults, often do not always pay attention to these manifestations of the disease or underestimate their significance in violating the correct regimen in a child. But statistically, nine out of ten patients with atopic dermatitis have problems sleeping. They are very common, but few people talk about them.
How to help a child with sleep disorders?
At this stage, the number of night feeds is usually reduced. At the age of 6 months, the child may completely refuse to feed at night. The baby forms a day and rest regimen: sleep hours are reduced: daytime sleep up to 3-5 hours, nighttime sleep up to 10-11 hours. It is time for the formation of bedtime rituals: quiet games, bathing, fairy tales and mother’s lullabies.
It is necessary to follow the recommendations, the so-called sleep hygiene rules:
• going to bed and waking up at the same time during the week, regardless of holidays and weekends;
• restriction of any activity in bed other than sleep (reading, watching movies, eating): this can disrupt the association between bed and sleep;
• it is necessary to maintain comfortable conditions in the children’s room/sleep area: minimum level of illumination, noise/white noise, moderate air temperature, comfortable mattress, pillow, sleepwear;
• the process of falling asleep should consist of consecutive, daily recurring activities: evening dress, lullaby, reading at night;
• avoid activities that can lead to arousal (watching TV, video games, socializing with peers, physical activity) before bed. You need to remove video games, TV, phone, computer from the child’s room;
• if the child still sleeps during the day, it is necessary to limit the time of daytime sleep in the afternoon;
• you should follow the diet: the baby should not go to bed overeaten or hungry;
• Ensuring a sufficient level of physical activity during the day;
• when the morning comes, the child’s room should be adequately lit;
• Avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, chocolate) in the afternoon;
• It is advisable to keep a diary of night and daytime sleep: an assessment of daytime activity allows you to identify problems that prevent you from establishing the right regimen and achieving healthy sleep.
When we talk about secondary insomnia, using the example of atopic dermatitis, it is necessary to take into account the recommendations of a pediatrician, an allergist-immunologist, a dermatologist:
• an individual plan for identifying triggers of atopic dermatitis;
• selection of therapy for disease control;
• Action plan for less scratching of the skin: for bathing and moisturizing the child’s atopic skin, it is recommended to use special products, such as La Roche-Posay (Gamma
Lipikar ).
Conclusion
In conclusion, I would like to remind you that sleep is an obligatory part of our daily rhythm, without which our body cannot exist. The formation of the correct sleep regimen is in our power. The nervous system of a child is very plastic, it adapts to the conditions that we impose on it.
Therefore, even if the baby has problems sleeping, you need to be patient and methodically follow the recommendations for the formation of proper sleep hygiene, sleep habits, a sufficient level of physical activity during wakefulness, a favorable home atmosphere, and, of course, be attentive to manifestations of diseases that the child often cannot tell us about.

Educational games are not a whim, but a necessity
Many parents complain that during the crisis educational games , such as puzzles and mosaics, which a child needs after two years, are quite expensive. But it turns out that classes with children can also be organized from improvised materials that are in every home – cereals and buttons, paper and a plastic bottle, nuts and bolts. And the benefits of them are no less than those purchased – try it, see for yourself! The only thing to consider: when working with small objects, be close to the baby, vigilantly looking after him.
And your child will be completely delighted when, under your strict guidance, on a wide plate, he will be able to “draw” various geometric figures on a “canvas” of millet, and then “paint” them with cereals of a different color – for example, buckwheat. And even if such a “canvas” is short-lived, but how much joy it will bring to the young artist! When they get tired of impromptu drawing with children using cereals, you can make new beads for your grandmother by stringing pasta with a large hole on a thread, or a funny snake from large buttons. Even ordinary screws and nuts will become a source of joy for your baby when he learns to wind them on each other. His mom and dad probably rejoiced in the same way in childhood, collecting something from a simple designer. Such games develop the dexterity of the crumbs’ fingers, have a positive effect on the development of speech and the thought process.

This article will serve as a guide to take you through the various job profiles present within the child daycare sector. Let’s start with the basics first.

Childcare Worker Roles:
Daycare Director
The duties of a daycare director involve ensuring the safety of the children and making sure the childcare facility is operating smoothly. They oversee daily programs and inspect the childcare educators and other staff to ensure that they care for the children appropriately and remain compliant with safety and health regulations.
Aside from supervising and training the staff within the facility, they are also responsible for preparing budgets. That said, connecting with the guardians or parents to discuss their child’s progress is the daycare director’s most important responsibility.
Daycare directors tend to have a childhood education degree. Some centers or employers may even require you to have 5 to 10 years of work experience or to get certification for running a childcare facility. To secure the role of a daycare director, your education, experience, and credentials will play a major role.
As for their salary, daycare directors made an average median wage of $23.18 an hour in 2019, translating to a total of $48,210 a year, as per the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
Office Administrator
Child daycares require administrators to supervise business management, budgets, and finances. Their duties vary but generally, it involves communicating with parents and making sure their requirements are met, admitting their kids to the institution, and coming up with policies to ensure the childcare center is operating at its best.
Administrators also oversee the pre-school teachers and childcare workers and see to it that the staff meets state standards for training and education. Some states require administrators to run background checks on the facility’s staff.
The eligibility criteria for daycare administrators vary by center and state. For instance, some employers and states will require you to have an early childhood education degree, while a high school diploma suffices for some. There are also cases where a specific amount of work experience is required in some states. For instance, in California, you may practice as a daycare administrator if you have teaching experience for 2 years.
In terms of salary, you may expect to make an average median salary of $46.8k a year in the US. Also, administrators working for top-tier childcare programs make about $35.14 an hour and up to $73,086 annually.
Preschool Teacher
Preschool teachers offer care for young children, typically around the ages of 3 to 5. Services vary from basic daycare services to academic instruction and enrichment activities. They prepare kids for kindergarten by helping them follow a routine and teaching social skills.
Primarily, they use stories and play to help the children develop. Additional duties of preschool teachers involve keeping kids safe, ordering supplies, planning snacks, attending meetings, and liaising with guardians.
Most preschool teachers work for private daycare centers, while a small percentage of them are working in schools, both public and private. To be a Head Start teacher, a high school diploma along with a certification in pre-childhood education is the minimum requirement.
Additionally, by law, fifty percent of preschool teachers require a degree in childhood education or any related subject. In terms of wage, the latest study by the Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests that the median wage for preschool teachers is $16.66 an hour and $34,650 annually.

You also need to ensure that every kid under your care receives personal attention and care and is in a comfortable and safe environment. While you will mostly work with kids around the ages of 0-3 years, there are some settings where you will need to supervise older children too.
When caring for infants and young kids, you must make sure the equipment such as car seats, swings, and cribs are all in good condition and that every child is always safe. Most of the time, your work will involve changing diapers, feeding, and comforting the children. Other responsibilities include providing stimulation, socialization, and entertainment play activities.
As for qualifications, most states require you to possess a degree in childcare education and other related certification. In terms of salary, the BLS suggests that teacher’s assistants made $27,920 per year in 2019.
Early Childhood Educators
This is another fulfilling job in childcare. Early childhood educators are responsible for providing early education and care to infants and young kids between the ages of 0 and 5.
You can work in different settings, including private households, schools, community centers, childcare facilities, and kindergartens. Contrary to popular belief, your role as an early childhood teacher isn’t just to play with children.
Rather, you’re responsible for preparing structured learning schedules and routines for the kids, stimulating their growing minds, inspiring them, and monitoring everything from meal times to free play.
You will have to create different activities that will help the kids grow both intellectually and socially. In addition to that, you must create a learning environment that inspires exploration, curiosity, and problem-solving in children.
Like most childcare roles, you’ll need a degree or a certification in childcare education. In terms of wage, you can expect to make an average salary of $13.52 an hour, estimating to about $28,100 per annum.

The working hours of an au pair depend on the employer’s requirements. In exchange for your time, you get a small amount of salary, followed by food and accommodation. Traditionally, this job is primarily taken up by young employees who wish to travel overseas. For instance, most childcare workers in Australia take up this role and explore the world.
Talented au pairs with good work experience are in high demand and can easily find work anywhere in the world. Additionally, based on the arrangements you make with the host family, you can expect to get a minimum weekly pocket money of $195.75.
Babysitter/Nanny
Babysitters offer temporary childcare services depending on the family’s requirements. Most families keep a list of trusted babysitters they can contact to supervise and care for their child for some hours, especially when they are running errands, at work, or attending social events.
While the family may leave some instructions concerning the kid’s eating and sleeping schedule, you will have to ensure the children’s safety and engage them in stimulating activities. You may expect to do some cleaning chores as well.
Nannies, on the other hand, are quite similar to babysitters in terms of responsibilities. For instance, you may be required to perform housework, do laundry, clean, and even take kids to activities or appointments.
That said, they are more involved in the kids’ lives and usually spend more hours with them, unlike babysitters. Also, they are more qualified and experienced than au pairs or babysitters. Plus, they make more remuneration. Nannies make about $19.14 an hour on average.

Positions in preschool educational institutions in accordance with professional standards
Professional standard – a characteristic of the qualification that an employee needs to carry out a certain type of professional activity or perform a labor function (part 2 of article 195. 1 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation).
The professional standard of an employee of a preschool educational institution is the main criterion for assessing competence and a strategy for matching a specialist to the position held and is used by the employer as the basis for determining the requirements for the qualifications of employees, taking into account the characteristics of their labor functions.
The application of professional standards is understood as the use of their provisions in organizing the activities of an educational organization, including:
- when hiring to determine the qualifications of an employee;
- during certification to determine compliance with the position held;
- when sending employees to additional vocational education to determine the type of training;
- when developing job descriptions to determine labor actions and requirements for knowledge and skills;
- when developing a staffing table to determine the names of positions.
A typical plan for the implementation of professional standards consists of the following stages (see Regulations on the implementation of professional standards in preschool educational institutions):
- Identification of approved standards applicable to the field of activity, direction of work of the organization.
- Conducting an analysis of the requirements of the professional standard, the content of the current job description in the organization and the records in the documents of the employee holding the relevant position (in the diploma and work book).
- Bringing the employee’s qualifications in line with the requirements of the professional standard.
- Amendments to the documents of the organization in connection with the application of professional standards.
The tables below present data on the compliance of positions in preschool educational institutions with accepted professional standards (stage 1 of introducing professional standards). The professional standards for positions that can be introduced into the staffing table to perform the assigned tasks or the professional standards of the norms of which can be taken into account when organizing the activities of the preschool educational institution are given.

As for management, these are administrative positions, such as the head and deputy head, and the head of the administrative and economic part of the preschool institution.

- paramedic;
- nurse;

Although these are the so-called secondary workers, nevertheless, it cannot be said that all these full-time positions that this or that kindergarten has are non-core. Since their work in kindergarten is as important as the activities of representatives of the main specialties.
Moreover, without their participation it is impossible to maintain at the proper level, and order in the territory, and comfort, and hygiene inside the premises. And this is nothing more than the health and safety of the wards.
