8 programs where children learn new things

Polina Kalmykova

regrets that she cannot go to her shift

Author profile

Many parents are in no hurry to send their children to the summer camp because they remember what it was like in their childhood: students – counselors who do not care about pupils, boring classes and acquaintance with bad habits under the guidance of children from older units.

Now everything is different: in the camps they do not just look after children during the holidays, but try to teach them something useful.

This article contains 8 interesting programs in which not students, but professional artists, programmers, athletes and teachers work with children.

Culinary camp “Gurmania”

What they will teach: to cook
Address: Kaluga region, Kremenki, st. Ozernaya, 1
Age: from 10 to 16 years old
How much it costs: 58 500 R for 14 days

Gurmania is a culinary squad as part of the large Robin Hood camp: every shift takes place on its territory several themed races. There are advantages to this: children do not spend all day in the kitchen, but also participate in activities common to the entire camp – they learn fencing and archery, prepare numbers for a talent competition and go to discos.

Culinary groups are limited to 24 people. This is how chefs have time to follow each child: show cooking techniques, control safety in the kitchen and correct mistakes in time if something goes wrong. In the classroom, they analyze such recipes that children can repeat at home: the guys learn how to knead pizza dough, stuff peppers, bake gingerbread cookies and fry cheesecakes.

Mobile phones are prohibited in the camp, but parents can follow the life of a child almost live: children maintain a culinary blog on YouTube, and camp leaders post photos of the squad on Facebook every day. I recommend watching the reports from previous shifts with your child: this will help determine how suitable the camp is for him.

/list/online-education-for-children/

Future art historians and programmers: 11 powerful online courses for children Address: Tver region, Konakovo district, resort “Zavidovo”
Age: from 8 to 16 years
How much it costs: 74 000 R for 14 days

Camp “Fantastica” is suitable for families who are not afraid of an atypical lifestyle . Children spend the night in camping tents, where instead of beds there are sleeping bags, and they move around the territory mainly on bicycles. But the highlight of the camp is in the sports program, which is not at all like physical education classes: here they offer to try their hand at golf and sailing. Although the shift lasts only two weeks, the children manage to master the control of a small yacht – a dinghy – so well that they can compete with each other in a regatta.

Rather harsh living conditions in the camp are balanced by liberal rules. Nobody forbids the use of smartphones, and the end time depends on age: children under 12 go to bed at 22:30, and those who are older can stay until midnight. You can also wake up at different times: yoga classes, meditation, cycling and fishing are organized for early risers from 07:00, while the rest can lie around for another hour before the general rise.

Sports training is not required for the trip: the organizers promise to teach the child everything, even ride a bike. But you will have to take care of the equipment in advance: children are not provided with bicycles and sleeping bags. Getting to the camp is also the concern of parents: a transfer from Moscow is not provided.

Where to go with children in Moscow: 9 ideas for those who have already been to the zoo and planetarium

Russian Chess School training camp

What they will teach: to play chess
Address: Moscow, settlement Krasnopakhorskoye, s. Krasnoe, Krasnaya Pakhra health resort
Age: from 5 to 15 years old
Price: from 10,000 R

Players of any level are invited to the camp, including those who are just getting acquainted with chess. Professional coaches, among whom there are international grandmasters, will be able to interest the child in playing from the very first game.

The trips are mainly thematic: the Chess and Business program helps to see the connection between the game and financial analytics, and during the Chess and Professions session, children will find out in which specialties a chess player’s intellectual skills can be useful. There are also active sports: mainly swimming in the pool and classic team games – football, volleyball and pioneer ball.

The format of participation is quite free: you can live in a hotel on your own, or you can go home with your parents or go home for the night. If a child has never been to a camp, this is a good opportunity to get to know how things work without too much stress.

Film camp “Maksatikha”

What they will teach: to make films and video blogging
Address: Tver region, Maksatikha district, Malyshevskoe rural settlement, Volodarka village, st. Solnechnaya, 1, building 1
Age: from 6 to 16 years old
How much it costs: from 60,000 R for 14 days

At Maksatikha, filmmaking is treated like an adult: at the beginning of the shift, children choose their own film profession and begin to engage in specialized workshops, and after a few days they already begin to create films. Everything ends with its own film award: the best film receives the Golden Baby Doll statuette.

The main camp is aimed at introducing children to classic cinema, but there are also special sessions dedicated to new professions, such as vlogging and streaming. Children will be taught to determine the target audience of the channel, select suitable artistic means and topics that will interest viewers. Practice is a must: each squad starts their own vlog while still on the bus.

Children are taught by true professionals: the camp team includes an actor from Fizruk, a Big Top Show cameraman, a choreographer who worked at Eurovision, and a director of children’s theaters. Those who enjoy the camp can continue their studies at the Maksatikha Club Moscow film school and shoot a short film in three months, taking part in all stages – from script writing to editing.

Summer country camp “Pixel”

What they will teach: to create computer games and robots
Address: Moscow, Voskresenskoye village, health-improving complex “Desna”
Age: from 8 to 15 from 24,500 R in 7 days

Pixel is a network of educational clubs where children learn robotics, programming and 3D modeling throughout the year. On vacation, Pixel organizes out of town trips. Depending on the shift, children will learn how to program in Minecraft, create games on Unity 3D, design quadcopters or print on a 3D printer in a week.

The level of training is not important: teachers will explain to beginners how to work with programs, and those who already have basic skills will be offered more difficult tasks. Classes at computers last for an hour and a half three times a day. The rest of the time, the children go about their business: swimming in the pool and playing outdoors.

There is no transfer to the camp, but all races start and end on a weekend evening so that parents can take and pick up the child without sacrificing working time.

Defeat the octopus and slide down the rainbow: 11 amazing playgrounds in Moscow

MBA Kids business camp

plan
Address: Moscow region, Kolomna city district, village of Maloe Uvarovo, Solnechny Olymp youth center
Age: from 13 to 17 years old
How much it costs: 51 801 R for 12 days

Camp MBA is a project of the business school of the same name for middle and high school students. On the road, participants actually master the Startup Factory program, but in a more intensive mode than usual: during the shift, each child will be able to come up with their own project, discuss a business plan with mentors, conduct market research, develop a product prototype and analyze risks.

Entering the market in 12 days, of course, is unlikely to succeed. On the other hand, it will be possible to find out exactly what difficulties a novice businessman faces and understand what it is better to spend energy on in the coming years: to form start-up capital and develop your own business, or still focus on studying at a university and looking for a job for hire.

Yolka Science Camp

What they will teach: to love science and swim in the pool
Address: Moscow region, Mytishchi district, Nagornoe village0019 Age: from 7 to 16 years old
How much: from 63,000 R for 21 days

In the science camp, each shift is dedicated to a certain direction. At the beginning of the summer of 2021, children immerse themselves in the exact sciences at the Balance program, at the end of June the Mesozoic shift begins, during which the children will learn about paleontology, and in August they will be waiting for children who are fond of space.

The camp develops three areas in parallel: education, creativity and sports. Every day, children swim in the pool under the supervision of instructors and visit the salt cave, learn to negotiate and solve problems in a team. And here they are allowed to use cell phones, they are taken away only at night. But parents in the reviews share that there is no time left for gadgets – the program is so rich there.

Children’s art-resident “Kavardak”

What will be taught: Create creative projects
Address: Vladimir Region, the village of Ustia
Age: from 8 to 17 years old
How much costs: 62 000 R for 13 days

Unlike other camps, “Kavardak” does not offer a ready-made program of classes, but helps to find the business that the child is drawn to. The equipment and materials of the camp will allow you to do almost anything: build a tree house, create your own musical instrument, make a movie and conduct laboratory experiments.

Formally, each shift has a special direction: design and architecture, music and theater, photography and video, science and art. But this does not limit children in any way, in each of the shifts you can come up with and implement absolutely any project. But those who specifically chose the theme of the race will be able to work in thematic workshops: learn from a professional director how to build a shot correctly, and learn the secrets of firing from an experienced ceramist.

Communication with children is based on democratic principles: adults try to make most of the decisions together with children. For example, the daily routine is planned by everyone together every morning. To prevent such a format from leading to chaos, only experienced teachers work with children: student counselors are not about Kavardak.

Relax with and away from children: 10 Moscow region hotels with entertainment for the whole family

site because you are looking for the best children’s vacation or children’s camp? Then you are at the right place 🙂 Let’s get acquainted. We are the KID.travel company and we organize and conduct the best camps for children and teenagers, send them on the most unforgettable trips, organize interesting programs and excursions, crazy holidays and useful trainings. And you are on our official website! 🙂

What should children’s holidays look like?

The days of pioneer camps are long gone 🙂 Well, you probably remember boring rulers, semolina with lumps and an obligatory afternoon nap? We at KID.travel are sure that a modern camp for a child should be such that there is something to remember upon returning home, something to talk about and certainly want to return. And we know how to organize such a holiday! 🙂

We are not just a children’s tour operator. We know what is interesting for children of all ages. We know how they live. What they dream about. What they love. And what is not so 🙂 And we are also sure that during the holidays you can not only have a great rest, but also learn something new. For example, become a film director for a while or write music on a computer, master rock climbing or become a paintball champion. And what about a trip to Ancient Rus’ or the search for a real treasure?

In general, we are already ready to organize the most unforgettable and useful vacation for your child. And by the way, we have been doing this for 15 years!

How do we work?

What if you missed it: KID.travel is not just a tour operator for children’s recreation. In our work we are guided by the following principles:

  • Versatile topics. Whatever the program, short, for the weekend, or long, for three weeks, every child should be interested!
  • The conditions for conducting programs must meet all the requirements for organizing children’s and youth recreation in the host country.
  • Experienced teaching staff and leaders. Our staff on the programs are permanent employees of KID.travel with extensive experience in working with children and youth. And we constantly train our employees, increasing their professional level.
  • Relationships with children. Our relations with children are built exclusively on the principle of partnership, and in our decisions we are always guided by compromises and agreements reached.
  • We are always open to cooperation, feedback and constructive criticism, which help us improve and provide our customers with even better and more popular products.

What can we do?

Our main love is children’s recreation camps. Yes, we know everything about the camps! Linguistic and sports, training and dance, military sports and nautical, children’s and teens … On our website you will definitely choose a children’s camp for your child! Lost in choice? Call us, we will help you choose a camp that your child will definitely like.

Another area without which we cannot imagine a cool children’s holiday is travel! For 15 years, we have organized so many tours for children’s recreation that we ourselves are surprised: “How did we manage to do so much?” With our children we were in Egypt, Turkey, Bulgaria, England, Germany, USA, Vietnam, Croatia, Montenegro, China, Spain, Portugal, New Zealand, Finland, Switzerland, Ireland, Mexico, France, Belarus, Canada, Austria, Arab Emirates, South Korea, Cyprus and Malta… Where are we going this year? Follow our news 🙂

Excursions. No, not those boring monotonous excursions that everyone has visited at least once. On such, I want to take a nap more than to learn something new. So, we officially declare: we do not carry out such! We know all the most interesting and exciting places in Moscow and beyond! And we are ready to show them to you 🙂

Trainings. At each age, the child faces certain tasks. Learn to communicate with peers, find your “I”, develop and strengthen your own value system, decide on your future profession, learn how to achieve goals, overcome crises associated with internal development and the outside world .

You’ll also find that our classrooms feature a print-rich environment full of carefully selected materials, written charts and labels, and children’s literature. By helping your child connect spoken words and print, we’re helping develop early literacy and writing skills.

Whether your child has first words or first grade on the horizon, we’re excited to show you how everything in our center is designed for learning!

Hello!

We invite you

city of Rostov-on-Don
Our site is addressed to all those who are interested in the harmonious and comprehensive development of our children, who wish to cooperate with us, who are ready to share their knowledge and talk about the difficulties in raising and educating a preschooler. We will talk about the news of the kindergarten, about the life of children in the group, inform about the educational program of preschool education being implemented by the teachers of the team.

Children live in the kindergarten,

They play and sing here,

Here they find friends,

They go for a walk with them,

They argue and dream together,

They grow imperceptibly.

Kindergarten is your second home,

How warm and cozy it is!

Do you love him children

The kindest house in the world!

What is Kindergarten No. 71 in Rostov-on-Don?

Dear parents,

9000

9005 9000
Plunge into the world of fantasy and fairy tales with your baby.

Visit MBDOU No. 71! We accept children from 3 years old. We provide assistance in the education and upbringing of children with disabilities.

It’s amazing how “non-speaking” children with ONR start talking to our SPEECH THERAPISTS. By school, your child will learn to build sentences correctly, pronouncing all the sounds of the Russian language clearly, learn to read and write in block letters.
Interest in communicating with peers, in showing love to close people, in recognizing the feelings of people around and fairy-tale characters is awakened by THEATERIZATIONS, which are conducted by professional choreographers and educators.
nine0006

The joy of learning is given to each child by entertaining games with DEfectologists. Children with mental retardation from the age of 5 have daily lessons with professional specialists. Due to the occupancy of groups for children with mental retardation up to 15 people, your baby will receive individual correctional and developmental classes.

A PSYCHOLOGIST-KINESIOLOGIST helps children to learn in motion. Educational kinesiology accompanies your children to additional classes according to the author’s program “Plastic Show”.
nine0006

The professionalism of MBDOU teachers in the process of participating in educational innovations of the city interested the specialists of the educational institutions of the city and scientists from both Rostov-on-Don (SFedU, DSTU) and Moscow.

The openness of kindergarten specialists is also familiar to parents of children with disabilities who applied to the CONSULTATION POINT of the preschool educational institution, at the address – st. Suvorov, 28.

Phone for an appointment for a consultation: 263-21-60

FREE information, diagnostic, consulting assistance to parents of children of senior preschool, junior preschool and early age.
nine0006

Respect breeds reciprocal respect. This style of communication between teachers, administration and parents gives rise to trust and cooperation in the PARENT CLUB. So let’s search together, love, create and be surprised, admire ordinary things!
Surprise, Interest, Joy in Knowledge and Movement of a child is the basis of his health.
Professionalism, Openness, Respect for kindergarten specialists in communicating with parents is the basis of a parent’s peace of mind.

Happy smiles of children are our reward and result!

    April Fool’s Day

    April 1 is the Day of Laughter and Jokes – an international holiday of humor, which is celebrated in many countries of the world. April Fool’s drawings give a lot of vivid impressions, positive emotions and are remembered for a long time. So our group was no exception, the guys from the middle group “Cherry” visited the “Magic Hat” that day, which invited comical characters to visit them, who played with children, showed them tricks, taught incendiary fun dances. (Of course, the educators of the group were in the role of these characters). But the guys also did not lag behind their guests, told fables, funny poems, dressed up in funny costumes. April Fool’s Day went off with a bang! Belkina V.A. nine0006

    In Rochester, the question of building a spectacular structure was discussed for a good ten years. We were looking for a site in the city center and money for the implementation of the idea, and finally decided. For 230 million dollars, it was decided to build a conglomerate in which, in addition to the theater, there will be an educational college building and a bus terminal. Moshe Safdie was invited as the author.

    Rochester, NY is home to the massive Strong National Museum of Play, a children’s museum with a wide variety of toys on display. http://www.museumofplay.org/collections/online/

    Based on the personal collection of Margaret Woodbury Strong, Smithsonian affiliate museum. It is the second largest children’s museum in the US, and the only one dedicated to the study of play.
    The Museum’s more than 500,000 exhibits include the world’s largest collection of dolls and toys, the most complete collection of homecrafts and gifts.

    History of Electronic Games).

    The new collection is located on the premises of the Strong National Museum of Play. The number of its exhibits is amazing – 15 thousand. This includes games, hardware, slot machines, flyers and posters, drawings and sketches, and a fair amount of documents from business intelligence to design documents and specifications.
    Its organizers say it is “the only collection created solely for the study and understanding of the nature of the game,” says Compulenta.
    The organizers paid special attention to how video games have affected the lifestyle of ordinary Americans: this part features ordinary toys, books, comics and much more.
    Of particular interest is the hardware section. Collected together, the exhibits represent, for example, the complete history of game consoles, starting from the very first consoles that saw the light of day in 1972 year. Not ignored and pocket consoles. In total, over a hundred different devices can be seen at the exhibition. Here is the super-famous NES, and real exotics like the pocket Milton Bradley Microvision and the 8-bit Vectrex with a vector graphics monitor.

    The organizers plan to open an exposition called “The Revolutionary World of Electronic Entertainment”, which will start operating in 2012.

    Veliky Novgorod | During the pandemic, Rochester residents decided to support Novgorodians with a “Message of Hope”

    Photo: vnru.ru

    To support the residents of Veliky Novgorod in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, members of the Linkages Friendship Society from Rochester (New York, USA) made a video and posted it on the YouTube platform. This was reported on the website of the city hall.

    Self-isolation, both in America and in Russia, resists the coronavirus pandemic. The main idea of the message is the hope that, despite the fact that we cannot visit each other now, we believe that the time will come, we will overcome the pandemic and be together again. Take care of each other!

    “The first contacts between the residents of Rochester and Novgorod started 30 years ago. Official sister city ties were established on July 16, 1990. The city twinning agreement has an unlimited duration. Throughout all these years, the exchange of experience in the field of education, culture, social assistance, healthcare has been developing, personal contacts have been maintained between the residents of our cities. An important role in strengthening ties between our cities is played by the organization Linkagez (Friendship Society), President Paul Kakamis (former Presidents Dick Fitts, Gaylin Mitchell, Joseph Gersitz). The Linkagez organization provides assistance in replenishing the fund of the library center “Chitai-Gorod” in Veliky Novgorod with books in English. The name of the world-famous composer and musician SV Rakhmaninov also connects our cities. His childhood years passed in Novgorod, and he is buried in the state of New York. In 2010, lilac, Rachmaninov’s favorite flower, was delivered to Veliky Novgorod from Rochester, USA, a city where the lilac festival is held annually and has the largest collection of these flowers. During the visit 16-19May 2013, great-granddaughter S.V. Rachmaninoff by Mrs. Natalie Wanamaker Xavier, seedlings were planted in the square of SV Rachmaninov. In 2013, a working visit of representatives of the “Landscape Workshop” partnership to Rochester took place as part of the implementation of the joint project “ Lilac Garden in Veliky Novgorod will be!” “. Lilac seedlings of American varieties were again brought to Veliky Novgorod for planting them in the lilac garden of Veliky Novgorod. In 2015, the Rochester delegation took part in the festive events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. At present, an exchange of schoolchildren and teachers has been established between Rochester and Veliky Novgorod (gymnasium No. 1), personal contacts between residents of our cities,” the administration of Veliky Novgorod reminded.

Teething at 12 weeks: Are Amber Teething Necklaces Safe? Baby Teething Necklace Risks & Alternatives

I think the “newborn” (well, 12 week old baby) is teething!

Date: December 5, 2015

Chewing on his hand

So i’ve got it into my head that maybe the “newborn” is teething; he’s actually now 12 weeks old and probably not newborn any more, though.

I thought this from around 10 or 11 weeks. Why? Well he’s chewing on his hands a lot and this behaviour has increased in the last few days. He’s slightly more drooly but that could just be from the increased sucking and chewing on back of his hand. I think that i’ve seen something that could be teeth under his gum, but i’m not 100% sure. My first-born, now nearly aged 2, got his first tooth around 4.5 months, and never looked back sprouting all his teeth apart from the back molars by the time he was one (here’s a link to all the teething posts from the first time around).
Of course, it might not be teething at all, afterall it feels a bit early.

I’m looking carefully around the space his bottom front teeth would be as they are apparently the first to come in according to sources such as the NHS on teething symptoms and how babies’ teeth emerge.

Some teeth grow with no pain or discomfort at all. At other times you may notice that the gum is sore and red where the tooth is coming through, or that one cheek is flushed. Your baby may dribble, gnaw and chew a lot, or just be fretful.

(NHS; link above)

As their teeth erupt, some babies may become fussy,  sleepless and irritable, lose their appetite or drool more than usual. Diarrhea, rashes and fever are not normal for a teething baby. Prior to tooth eruption, the gingiva [baby-brain does not know what this is] may appear bluish and swollen as a result of a transient hematoma. In rare cases, an eruption cyst develops. The tooth will eventually rupture this watery sac as it pushes through the gums….

Baby with tooth

So how long do I have to wait and see if it is a tooth, or not?

Tooth eruption takes place during an 8-day window that includes 4 days before tooth eruption, the day of eruption and the 3 subsequent days

When Do Babies Start Teething? Symptoms, Remedies, and More

Teething is when a baby’s teeth start to come through their gums. Most babies will start teething around the age of 6 months, but some may start sooner or later.

You love watching your baby hit those sweet milestones — the first smile, first giggle, and rolling over for the first time. But one that’s sometimes not so sweet (for you or for them) is teething.

Although this is a typical part of growing for babies, it is one of those milestones that can bring discomfort, tears (from you and baby), and even sleepless nights (yep, more of those!).

As for when your baby will actually start the process, it depends.

A baby’s teeth can sometimes emerge with no pain or discomfort, so you might not realize they’re teething until you see the first sign of a tiny white tooth. For other babies, though, teething does cause discomfort.

Common symptoms of teething may include:

  • drooling
  • face rash from drooling
  • chewing on different objects
  • irritability and crankiness
  • crying
  • refusing to eat
  • swollen, sore, or tender gums
  • trouble sleeping
  • flushed cheeks
  • pulling on their ears
  • slightly elevated temperature to around 99°F (37. 2°C)

Note

On the other hand, a rectal temperature 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, vomiting, or diarrhea are not usually signs of teething. If your baby has these symptoms, contact their pediatrician.

Symptoms of teething in breastfed babies

Teething symptoms can occur whether you breastfeed or bottle-feed your baby. But if you breastfeed or chestfeed, you might notice other changes, too. For example, gum pain or soreness might cause your baby to latch on differently.

Before a tooth emerges (and even afterward), you might feel your baby gnaw or bite down on your breasts. And since breastfeeding is soothing for babies, they might feed more often while teething.

Keep in mind that teething symptoms occur before a tooth breaks through the gum, so don’t be alarmed if you notice these changes in your baby but don’t see any sign of a tooth.

Most babies get their first tooth between 4 and 7 months old.

But there’s a wide range of when it’s considered “typical” to start teething. So don’t panic if your little one hasn’t cut a tooth by 7 or 9 months old. If you’re concerned, you can always speak with their pediatrician at their next checkup.

To get even more specific, most infants begin teething at around 6 months old. Your little one will likely have a full set of their first teeth by age 3, and all the joys of the teeth-brushing routine will have been long established.

But “typical” doesn’t mean “best” or “all.” Exactly when your baby will start teething may even be hereditary.

And though it may seem impossible, some babies are born with one or two teeth! This occurs in about 1 in 6,000 to 1 in 800 cases — so it’s uncommon. It makes for some incredibly adorable pictures, but let’s be honest — toothless grins are pretty darn cute, too.

Infants born with teeth should have them closely monitored since they can present a choking risk.

Some infants are early teethers — and it usually isn’t anything to worry about! If your little one starts showing signs of teething around 2 or 3 months old, they’re simply ahead of the curve in the teething department. And if your baby is a late teether, try not to worry about this either (easier said than done, we know).

Every baby is different, so don’t be concerned if all your child’s little friends have started to cut teeth already — yours will too, in their own time. In fact, if you’re going to compare at all, it’s better to consider when their siblings (if they have them) got their first tooth.

The bottom two teeth are usually the first to appear, followed by the four upper teeth. So keep an eye on that area and prepare for cuteness overload when they do.

Next, their teeth may come in two at a time, one on each side of the mouth. But this pattern can vary, and many factors can influence the timeline (like if your baby was born early or at a low birth weight, for example).

On average, babies have:

  • 4 teeth by 11 months
  • 8 teeth by 15 months
  • 12 teeth by 19 months
  • 16 teeth at 23 months

Those sometimes distressing (but always perfectly usual) teething symptoms may come and go during this time period. Or they may be more consistent as your little one cuts new teeth or starts to feel the first symptoms of a tooth emerging.

If your child doesn’t have any teeth by 18 months, see a pediatric dentist for evaluation. In rare cases, an underlying medical issue may cause a delay in teething. These may include:

  • malnutrition
  • vitamin deficiency
  • underactive thyroid

If you’re concerned that it’s been a while since your child cut their last one or two teeth, speak with their pediatrician.

When your little one is teething, you may feel more inclined to reach for that bottle of wine or chocolate bar because it’s tough to see your baby in pain. (No? Just us?)

Well, baby needs some soothing, too.

Home remedies

These are some tried and true — and most importantly, safe — home remedies you can try:

  • Gently massage your baby’s gums with a clean finger, knuckle, or moistened gauze pad.
  • Hold a cold washcloth, spoon, or chilled teething ring on your baby’s gums.
  • Use plastic or rubber toys that are chilled — never frozen solid (ouch!).
  • Offer cold foods like a chilled little slice of cucumber if your baby is already eating solids — but always keep a watchful eye on them, because this could be a choking hazard.

Medical treatment

Currently, there aren’t any medical treatments to soothe teething pain in a baby. The good news, though, is that babies typically respond positively to home remedies.

If these remedies don’t relieve symptoms, feel free to ask your pediatrician about the occasional use of over-the-counter baby acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Your pediatrician can advise whether this is an OK treatment and provide guidance on proper dosing.

And an important note: No matter how attractive the item or the claims of its manufacturers, avoid teething necklaces or bracelets — worn by adults or babies — made of amber, wood, or silicone. These can quickly turn into choking hazards, and it’s just not worth it.

Also on the no-go list: homeopathic teething tablets and medicated topical gels. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued warnings against using both of these products.

Medicated topical gels contain the ingredient benzocaine, which is an anesthetic. It’s found in products like Anbesol, Orajel, Baby Orajel, and Orabase.

Benzocaine is linked to a rare but serious condition called methemoglobinemia.

Keep in mind that good oral health isn’t important for only older children, teens, and adults. Your baby’s oral health matters too. So start brushing those pearly whites as soon as the first tooth grows in.

How do you keep their tiny, delicate teeth healthy? There really isn’t much to do at this age, but the first step is to buy an infant toothbrush that is soft and gentle. You’ll brush their teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.

And yes, it’s OK to use a fluoride toothpaste, but not too much. You only need a small grain-size amount until they’re 3 years old; then, increase to a pea-sized amount.

Brushing helps prevent tooth decay, which can occur when sugar from milk, juice, or formula remains on their teeth and damages the enamel.

Have questions about teething? Here are answers to a few frequently asked questions.

What are the first signs of teething?

The teething experience can differ for each individual baby, but some of the first signs include:

  • drooling
  • gnawing
  • trouble sleeping
  • irritability or crying
  • a mild increase in body temperature

Some babies also develop flushness around their cheeks or a rash. And if you breastfeed or chestfeed, teething might change the way your baby latches, or they might feed more often to soothe themselves.

How early do babies show signs of teething?

Teething typically occurs around 6 months of age. However, some babies start teething as early as 2 or 3 months. Then again, some babies teeth later and don’t cut their first tooth until 8 or 9 months (or later).

How long does teething last for babies?

The teething timeframe differs for each baby. But regardless of whether a baby starts teething at 6 months or 9 months, they typically stop teething before age 3. Some babies stop teething around 24 months, while others don’t stop until 36 months.

Do babies get sick when teething?

Even though your baby may have physical discomfort, teething doesn’t make them sick. So if your baby has a runny nose, productive cough, diarrhea, vomiting, or a high fever, these symptoms aren’t associated with teething. This could be a sign of an infection, so speak with their pediatrician.

When your baby cuts their first tooth usually says nothing about their development — as with most things baby, there’s such a wide range of totally OK. Most infants end up with a full set of baby teeth by the time they’re 3 years old, regardless of when they cut that first tooth.

But if your baby hasn’t cut a tooth by the time they’re 18 months old, talk with your dentist. Ideally, you’ve already brought your baby to a pediatric dentist by age 1, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (and the American Dental Association and American Academy of Pediatrics, too).

So if you haven’t seen a dentist yet, this would be a good time to have your sweet babe’s mouth and gums checked out.

While visiting the dentist for the first time may sound scary, remember these two things: Your baby hasn’t yet had a negative dental experience to create dread, and pediatric dentists are great at making the visit comfortable — it can even be even fun.

Once your little one does cut a tooth or two, be sure to take good care to clean around the area each day with a damp, cool washcloth or soft-bristle baby toothbrush. Before you know it, they’ll (hopefully!) be brushing their teeth on their own.

Teething in a child: timing, care, ways to relieve pain

Children will definitely appreciate the parental contribution to maintaining dental health when they grow up. In order to help the baby from the very beginning, it is necessary to know the structural features, the stages of formation and the correct order of teething.

Teeth development before eruption

The health of your baby’s teeth should be taken care of long before they erupt. It is useful for expectant mothers to know that the rudiments of milk teeth are formed already at the 7-8th week of intrauterine development, and permanent ones at the end of 4 months. Not just teething timing, but even level enamel mineralization both milk and molars depends on how the pregnancy proceeds. Therefore, it is so critical that a woman receives all the vitamins, microelements and is as healthy as possible.

But not only food is important. The results of the research showed that in the presence of industrial harmful substances in the environment of the expectant mother during pregnancy and numerous stressful situations, the formation of all dental tissues is disrupted in the child and the timing of the appearance of milk teeth is shifted. Among children born to women with high blood pressure, late eruption of temporary teeth was noted in 56.7%. Approximately one third of the examined children born to mothers with heart defects revealed late eruption of temporary teeth, as well as deviations in the pairing and sequence of their eruption. The duration of pregnancy also plays a role. There is a pronounced dependence of the timing of the eruption of the first teeth on the degree of prematurity: the earlier the baby was born, the later the first teeth erupt [1, 2] .

Why baby teeth are needed

Nature has conceived the correct order and timing of teething in children. Evolutionarily, this is due to the need to form the bite and jaw bones for chewing and speech. Over the years, the bones grow, and the milk teeth, which at the beginning of their appearance fit snugly against each other, diverge by the age of 6-7, forming wide, natural interdental spaces for this period – tremas and diastemas.

There are only 20 teeth in the milk bite. This is due to the fact that they must be correctly placed in the small children’s jaw of the first years of a baby’s life, and excludes crowding of teeth that provokes dental diseases. The last of the milk teeth are replaced at the age of 10-12 years. However, they are very important for the physiological formation of the jawbones and permanent occlusion.

Proper growth and health of milk teeth help:

  • rebuild the body from lactophoric to a mixed type of nutrition;

  • reserve space for the normal positioning of future molars;

  • form a mixed bite.

There is an erroneous opinion that milk teeth in case of infection with caries can not be treated, but immediately removed. But modern dentists are against such tactics. Early removal is fraught with displacement of neighboring milk teeth and the appearance of problems already with an adult bite. Therefore, it is so important to maintain the presence and health of all milk teeth until the moment when permanent teeth erupt on their own [3] .

The structure of milk teeth

Temporary teeth have thinner enamel, and their internal pulp cavity is larger compared to permanent ones. All this makes the tooth lighter, which helps with the eruption of permanent teeth, but at the same time accelerates the development of caries and pulpitis. However, there are bonuses: by the time the molars begin to erupt, which will remain with the child until the end of life, the roots of milk teeth even dissolve to ensure their rapid and relatively painless loss.

Terms of eruption of milk teeth

Teething is a genetically programmed event that occurs at a certain period. Physiological teething is characterized by three main features: certain timing, pairing and sequence of teething. Galaktionova M. Yu.

Children’s milk teething rates differ depending on their ethnicity. But as studies show, in general, the world is experiencing a reduction in the time from birth to the moment when the first tooth appears. This is due, according to most researchers, to the global acceleration of human development [1] . How and when milk teeth erupt is one of the indicators of a child’s physical development.

Causes of violation of the order and timing of teething in children can be:

  • heredity;

  • climatic conditions;

  • nature of feeding;

  • certain diseases, such as rickets.

The eruption rates for milk teeth according to the American Dental Association are presented in the table.

The specified periods are average indicators, varying depending on individual and family characteristics [4,5] . But the sequence of appearance of teeth is essential, and it is better to track and record it. From a physiological point of view, the correct order of eruption of milk teeth in children is important for bite formation .

Teething aid

The appearance of milk teeth is not an easy process not only for the children themselves, but also for their parents. The most common teething symptoms:

  • swelling and redness of the gums;

  • excessive salivation;

  • itching and urge to keep hands, toys in mouth;

  • capriciousness of a child;

  • sleep disorder;

  • refusal to breast, bottle or complementary foods;

  • temperature increase;

  • stool disorders;

  • runny nose.

The following will help you get through this period as comfortably as possible:

  • special teething rings that relieve itching, especially with a cooling effect;

  • local anesthetic dental gels;

  • antipyretic and analgesic preparations;

Gentle silicone fingertip massage to soothe and relieve your baby [6]

Baby Teeth Care

Once the first tooth has erupted, don’t put off going to the dentist. Schedule a visit (at least once every 3-4 months). And after the first birthday, it is also desirable to be observed by an orthodontist. If there are no problems, visits to him should be repeated once a year [7,8]

Proper care at home is important.

  • Milk teeth are suitable for an ultra-soft toothbrush with a small head.

  • Children’s mouth rinses are used from about 4 years old or from the time the child can spit.

  • Parents should supervise the brushing of preschool children’s teeth and, if necessary, help and clean missed areas.

  • Adults should teach their children to rinse their mouth after meals from a very young age.

  • Until the child has learned to spit on his own, toothpaste should not contain fluorides.

  • A bathroom timer or a favorite song helps you stick to the 2-minute brushing time.

  • Solid food should be included in the diet daily in sufficient quantities to properly form the bite and stimulate the gums.

These simple tips help keep baby teeth healthy from the very beginning until they are naturally replaced by permanent teeth.

Which teeth erupt first – Dr. Lapchenko Dental Clinic

A baby has appeared in the house. The first fears and worries passed, the pediatrician came for an examination and informed the young parents that the child was completely healthy. They even coped with the first difficulties: with colic, they “saved” my mother’s warmth and good old dill water. Sleepless nights are over and it’s time to relax and enjoy watching your baby grow? Alas, a new test awaits parents ahead: the child’s teeth begin to cut.

How to “survive” this difficult period, what you should remember and how you can help your child, we will tell in this article.

When teething starts

Your child’s future teeth are formed during the prenatal period, during the second month of pregnancy. When should you expect the first tooth? As a rule, the first milk teeth appear in children at the age of 4-7 months. We say “usually” because teething is an exclusively individual process and it is not worth worrying about the fact that teeth do not appear “on schedule”. There are cases when a child is already born with the first teeth, and sometimes the teeth can wait until the first Birthday of your crumbs.

What determines the timing of teething

Teething a little earlier or later than the average set period of 6 months is not a cause for concern. The timing of the “exit” of the tooth from the gums can depend on factors such as the mother’s diet during pregnancy, the individual characteristics of the child, and even heredity. Check with your next of kin: perhaps the first milk teeth appeared quite late for you or your parents, and the baby simply “observes family traditions”.

Graph of the appearance of teeth in babies

And yet, while waiting for the first tooth, I want to focus on some dates. As we said above, it is worth preparing for 4-7 months.

Which teeth come in first

  • teeth usually start to erupt from the lower central incisors, they erupt in pairs. Then the upper central incisors erupt. By 8 months, 4 incisors usually appear – two in each jaw;
  • by 12 months, lateral incisors erupt on both jaws;
  • after the incisors, the first large molars, or molars, appear. They should be expected by the age of 12-16 months;
  • behind them – fangs, at 16-20 months;
  • and the last, by the age of two, the second molars are born.

Remember that your baby may have a different “formula” for teething. Violation of the timing and order of the appearance of teeth is not a sign of some kind of pathology.

There are 20 milk teeth in total, and by the age of three, most children can already boast of a complete set.

Teething symptoms

The timing has been determined. How to understand that baby is teething? Forerunners of this are characteristic symptoms:

  • tearfulness and restlessness;
  • sleep disturbance;
  • profuse salivation;
  • rashes and irritations of the skin around the mouth;
  • temperature increase;
  • inflammation of the gums;
  • coryza;
  • cough;
  • diarrhea.

The combination of several or even all of these symptoms is characteristic of teething. As you can see, the manifestations are not at all specific, and can accompany many other diseases. That is why it is important to see a doctor if the child’s condition does not improve within three days, or if the temperature rises above 38.5-39°C. Attributing childhood ailments to the teeth, it is very easy to “miss” an infectious or viral disease – be careful.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the most frightening symptoms that accompany teething and the causes that cause them.

Inflammation of the gums

The gums become “loose” and change color. Bumps, bruises and light streaks are sure signs that your child will soon delight you with a new tooth.

Fever

The temperature usually rises slightly – up to 37.5 ° C. If the numbers on the thermometer reached the level of 38.5-39 ° C, most likely an infection has joined. In this case, it is necessary to give the baby an antipyretic and consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Runny nose

Profuse salivation is not the only manifestation of teething. Just as the mucous membrane of the mouth reacts, so does the nose. Hence the runny nose. If a three-month-old baby has small amounts of transparent snot, the reason is most likely in the teeth. Do not try different medicines. It is enough just to regularly clean the clogged nose. There can be two reasons to see a doctor with a runny nose:

  • runny nose continues and does not decrease for three days;
  • nasal discharge has ceased to be transparent, and has become greenish – this may indicate that a bacterial infection has appeared against the background of a weakened immune system.

Cough

Cough is caused by saliva that collects in the throat. The fact is that in children the swallowing reflex is not sufficiently developed and with a large volume of liquid, children begin to cough it up. With cutting teeth, the cough is wet, rare and does not last more than 3-4 days. A dry, irritating mucous membrane and a prolonged cough is a definite reason to make an appointment with your pediatrician.

Diarrhea

Oddly enough, but violations of the excretory function are also caused by strong salivation. Constantly swallowing, the child thereby stimulates the peristalsis of his intestines, which causes a loosening of the stool. Diarrhea with cutting teeth is not very liquid, without blood threads and does not last more than two days. If something has alerted you – do not hesitate to contact the doctor.

Which teeth come out first, how to help your child

When teeth come out , your baby changes dramatically. Irritability, frequent crying, sleep disturbance and loss of appetite – teething is a difficult time for both the baby and the parents. How to help the child and how to speed up the appearance of teeth? Unfortunately, there is no way to speed up the process, but you can alleviate the condition of the baby. It is recommended to gently massage the gums with your fingertip, and a cool teether will relieve pain. A little secret: children are easily distracted. Show the baby something interesting – and he will calm down, forgetting about the discomfort in his mouth. Do not forget about the power of maternal warmth. Hold the child close to you, shake it: it is easier for a baby to survive any sorrows next to his mother.

Remedies for symptoms: how to relieve pain

The process of teething does not take one day, but can stretch for weeks. That is why it is so important to replenish your first-aid kit in advance with products that will help your child to endure unpleasant sensations more easily, and you to remain calm.

  1. Is the appearance of new teeth accompanied by high fever? It is worth stocking up on special dental gels (Kamistad-gel), which have a cooling and local anesthetic effect. You can use the gels from the age of four months, and, depending on the composition, apply up to 5-6 times a day.
  2. Has the temperature risen? Children’s antipyretics based on ibuprofen (Nurofen) or paracetamol (Panadol) will not only lower the temperature, but also reduce the severity of the inflammatory process. Please note: teeth rarely give a very high temperature. If you see numbers above 39 ° C on your baby’s thermometer, call your doctor immediately.
  3. If for some reason a child cannot take medicines, homeopathy comes to the rescue. Good results in teething are also given by homeopathic suppositories (Viburkol) and sucking tablets (Dormikind).
  4. Do not forget about the “grandmother’s” methods. Cool items (from special teethers to a regular spoon) can significantly alleviate the child’s condition.

Description

Pine nut kernels are covered with a shell, a thin film that is under the shell. The film proved to be an excellent material for stuffing pillows or mattresses. It retains a natural aroma for a long time and, importantly, a high content of phytoncides that disinfect the air in the bedroom. In addition, mattresses and pillows stuffed with pine nut kernel film have a good orthopedic effect.

A film of pine nuts is also used in cosmetology, for example, when preparing a nourishing face mask. To do this, the cedar film is thoroughly ground and mixed with vegetable oil. Proportion: for two tablespoons of ground film – one teaspoon of oil, preferably cedar, although olive oil is also suitable. Also add a spoonful of honey. The resulting mixture is diluted with hot water to a state close in consistency to sour cream.

The Daily Walk

Many years ago I decided to add a daily walk around our neighborhood to our morning schedule. We started out small by walking around our long block. We clocked it in the car and found that it was six-tenth of a mile.

    This is a review for preschools in Marietta, GA:

    “I absolutely love this school. This particular location (they have two) has half days but you can pick what days you attend and pay accordingly, so it’s extremely flexible. The curriculum is incredible, I’ve watched my kids really grow academically. They expose the kids to Spanish, French, and Mandarin. They also offer some after school programs. The parent involvement is great, with constant communication via email, and daily reports as well as a room parents committee. I highly recommend this school to parents with preschool age children that want a setting that is education driven.”

Where to work after the maternity leave: advice for mothers

Faced with a situation when it became clear that it would not work to stay at the previous job, it is worth starting to prepare the ground for a change of position or company as early as possible, even during maternity leave. As an option, read profile news regularly, be a member of professional communities, attend online and, if possible, offline webinars, learn foreign languages and maintain their level of proficiency.

When a woman is on maternity leave for a long time, competencies become obsolete and blurred, so you should try to allocate at least a little time to support them.
Olga Poldner, career consultant

Meanwhile, if you are on the staff of a company, do not rush to look for a new job – go to your current position. Firstly, it will allow you to refresh your knowledge and skills and integrate into work processes. And secondly, a gap in the experience will not appear in the resume.

To stay in the profession, one may not get a new job. For example, some specialists are in great demand, so they can realize themselves as an online consultant in their field. This opportunity can be used by lawyers, accountants, HR managers, doctors.

One of the most difficult moments when changing a profession is choosing a field of activity and a way to acquire skills. Julia Eremeeva, job seeker expert at hh.ru , advises you to look at what you already know and how it can be put into practice.

A friend of mine used to write compositions well at school. During maternity leave, she remembered this skill and decided to try herself as a copywriter. Copywriting allowed her to write texts remotely for different customers and combine work with raising a child. And her earnings sometimes exceed the salary of office workers.
Yulia Eremeeva, job seeker expert at hh.ru

Remember what you’ve always wanted to learn – maybe now is the time.

One client has been interested in SEO optimization for a long time, but decided to study only on maternity leave. After completing the course, she went to a new job in a different position. She has had an interesting career and holds the position of head of mobile development in a large company.
Olga Poldner, career consultant

Today, quite often, in order to learn some professions, you do not need to graduate from a university – just take courses. The term of study can vary from a couple of weeks to several years. It is advisable to choose courses that involve an internship or employment in a company after training. This will help you gain experience, collect a portfolio and customer reviews, acquire personal achievements that will help you in your future job search.

After the decree, a woman’s opportunities in choosing a profession are not limited. But the choice depends on the amount of free time, the availability of assistants, freedom of movement and a number of other factors. Career consultants identify several areas in which women with a small child build a career most often.

Online professions

Digital specialists have been in demand for many years, and, given the development of technology, the demand for them is only growing. In addition, during the pandemic, many employers have introduced a remote work format. It allows you to more effectively combine household chores and work. If everything is in order with self-discipline and time management, take a look at the following specialties:

• copywriter;
• SMM manager;
• targetologist;
• SEO-optimizer;
• marketer;
• community administrator;
• analyst;
• designer;
• developer.

Counseling

It was during the pandemic that many specialists in the field of counseling and training switched to remote work and … remained in this format and beyond. For example:

• tutors;
• psychologists;
• career counselors;
• business coaches.

It turned out that video meetings do not reduce the effectiveness of the results at all, and for many clients this way of interaction is even more convenient. For a specialist, this format of work allows you to build an employment schedule on your own.

Working with children

Some mothers choose to work in organizations that allow them to be close to their child: in kindergartens, schools, sports and creative clubs. The main selection factor for such organizations, says Yulia Eremeeva is the experience of interacting with children. A number of positions, of course, require special qualifications :

• teacher, lecturer;
• caregiver;
• trainer;
• medical worker;
• organizer of children’s events.

But there are also positions in such organizations that you can get without special specialized training :

• teacher’s assistant, nanny;
• administrator;
• cook assistant.

Sales

In a ceteris paribus selection situation, baby products companies are more likely to favor a candidate with parenting experience than without, and often having children of your own and being familiar with the products is a key factor in the requirements for these jobs. You can find a job as:

• salesman-cashier of children’s goods and goods for mothers;
• merchandiser for children’s and toy stores;
• sales manager for children’s goods;
• consultant for the sale of services and goods for children and parents;
• sales representative of brands – manufacturers of goods for children and parents;
• distributor of baby and maternity products.

Work in the field of beauty

Often, women on maternity leave try to move into a field that is close and familiar to them, and training will take a short period of time. Therefore, many mothers start a career in the field of beauty. Some work from home or rent a room, which allows them to choose their own work schedule and receive income that depends on the hours worked. And others get jobs in beauty salons and spas, where they are also provided with flexible working hours. Among professions in the beauty industry with easy entry :

• Manicurist;
• hair removal master;
• eyelash extension specialist.

Subsequently, a mother can not only combine an interesting profession with caring for a child, but also develop her own business.

Own business

It happens that during the maternity leave a woman is fond of a new occupation: knitting, embroidering, baking, photographing, drawing. Today, almost any hobby can be turned into a business. Start by creating your own social media page with products and use word of mouth to give product samples to your neighbors and friends. Subsequently, the business can be developed to a large scale: open an online store, conduct courses, and so on.

If you decide to develop your business, it is advisable to formalize the status of self-employment or open an individual entrepreneur, as this will give an advantage when working with large customers. Tatyana Nechaeva, senior lawyer at hh.ru , says that a woman who is on maternity leave and officially employed can apply for self-employment or open an individual entrepreneur without the permission of the employer.

You can open your own business when the main place of employment of a person is not connected with state bodies. Sometimes the internal policy of the company prohibits employees from engaging in other activities, but according to the law of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, it has no right to make such a ban. In particular, such a case will not be considered by the court. But it is important to understand that if a person uses confidential data in his business (customer database, organization presentations and other materials), they can be held accountable for this, you need to be careful.
Tatyana Nechaeva, senior lawyer hh.ruWhen applying for self-employment or registering an individual entrepreneur, a woman does not lose maternity payments for child care .

If you decide to change your profession, create a new resume. In the “Work Experience” section, write everything that relates to a new type of activity: it can be an internship as part of a study or project work.

For example, you want to become an event manager. What experience do you have in organizing events? Perhaps you spent holidays for your relatives or friends, arranged joint trips to nature. Or you want to become a copywriter – remember your experience in writing texts: these can be posts on social networks on a personal page or articles for a student newspaper. Describe this experience in as much detail as possible.

After the decree. How to find a job for a young mother

The birth of a child becomes a serious test for a woman’s career. For some time, she is forced to drop out of her working life, and then it is difficult to recover both because of the biased attitude of employers and because of her own changed priorities. How to find a way out of the situation and who to contact?

Decree work

The Labor Code prohibits refusing employment on the grounds of having children. Despite this, young mothers remain one of the most vulnerable categories on the labor market: the employer fears that they will constantly be asked to leave because of the illness of the child or other related matters.

In some companies, says Andrey Konovalov, a psychologist and psychotherapist, recruiters receive an unspoken instruction from management not to hire young mothers. “You can always find something to complain about, and the applicant will not even understand that the real reason for the refusal was the presence of children,” he says.

According to Sergey Svetochenko, press secretary of the Superjob job search service, as a rule, employees of “normal” companies do not have problems with leaving parental leave, where they are not indifferent to the living conditions of their employees . Then, if the specifics of the activity allows, you can agree on a freer schedule and occasional work from home. Women who tried not to lose their professional skills during their forced absence are also in a good position.

“First of all, an employer needs a good employee with certain skills and competencies. If an employee who possesses them sometimes will not be in the office, it’s okay The main thing is that he fulfills his tasks,” says Svetochenko.

According to the Superjob survey, the most likely to continue working on maternity leave are software testers (approximately 66%), translators (65%), designers (64%), journalists (49%), programmers (42%), lawyers (38%), marketers (35%), HR managers (34%), architects (33%), as well as logisticians, nurses, teachers and psychologists (25–30%) . Slightly less, but doctors, accountants, engineers, cooks, sales managers, economists, office managers and secretaries who are on maternity leave also earn extra money in their main specialty.

However, this is not possible in all areas. According to a survey conducted by the “Road to Life” foundation, 53% of young mothers themselves do not seek to return to their previous jobs. “This is prevented not only by the loss of qualifications, but also by the inability to place the child in a kindergarten. And if this is possible, it is necessary to think about how to pick him up, who will be with him in case of illness. Women often refuse promising jobs with a good income in order to have time to devote time to children,” explains the head of the fund, Olesya Kashaeva.

Therefore, women find some kind of side job. Most often, this is working with social networks, maintaining databases, image processing, preparing presentations. Some learn new professions or open their own small business.

“The situation is becoming a thing of the past when a person gets a job after graduation and sits in one place until retirement. Technologies develop, the fourth industrial revolution is coming, and we have to constantly learn. During a career, a person can change three or four types of activity. And business not in whether there are children or not, but in the direction of career development.When a child is born in a family, living conditions change, adaptation is necessary.If there is support from her husband, a woman can become a housewife, and someone likes it. work and master new skills,” says Svetochenko.

Where can I get help?

Women with children have access to all basic measures of state support for the unemployed – benefits, selection of vacancies, the opportunity to use the self-employment program, as well as psychological support and adaptation to the labor market. For example, employment centers conduct trainings where you can learn how to behave at an interview and write a resume, increase motivation, learn how to manage time and become stress-resistant.

In addition, young mothers can go through career guidance for free and get a new profession or improve their skills. “This service is provided to women, regardless of whether she is in an employment relationship with the employer during this period or not. That is, women during maternity leave can update their professional skills in order to return to work and not waste time replenishing skills that have changed during the decree, or even change your profession to a more popular one or one that allows you to combine professional activities with family responsibilities,” the Moscow Department of Labor and Social Protection said.

© Aleksandr Ryumin/TASS

According to the department, the following retraining programs are most in demand: accounting and taxation, personnel inspector, management of state and municipal procurement, information technology with the study of the 1C program.

Those who decide to start their own business will be offered to be tested for entrepreneurial propensity, they will be told about legal and psychological nuances, they will be advised on choosing a business area, they will be helped to draw up a business plan. Also, employment centers compensate for the costs of registering a new legal entity or individual entrepreneur, paying fees and notarial acts, making seals and purchasing forms.

Starting in 2020, in accordance with the national project “Demography”, women will also be able to receive grants to create groups for the care and care of preschool children or learn to be a nanny. In addition, in order to relieve women at home, by 2021 it is planned to fully provide all children under three years of age with places in kindergartens.

According to the Moscow Department of Labor and Social Protection, about 8,000 women in the capital annually turn to employment centers for help, and about half of them find new jobs, including on their own. In the Women’s Business Center established by the department, about 200 people are trained annually. In 2018, almost 100 women started their own business.

The Employment Center is not the only place a young mother can turn to; there are also private social projects. For example, “Mom Works” is career counseling, legal and psychological assistance, training and retraining, but above all, free co-working spaces where a mother can work quietly while a caregiver looks after the child. “Nanny services in co-working spaces are provided only for children aged from one to six years old. But all other services can be used by all mothers, regardless of the age of the children,” says Kashaeva.

Now, according to her, the project is being copied all over Russia with the support of the Ministry of Labor and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives. So far, there are co-workings “Mom works” in Moscow, Almetyevsk, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar.

There is also a hotline with psychologists “Help for tired mothers”, as well as individual projects in various cities that allow you to find a nanny or housekeeper for one time when you need to go somewhere. For example, there is “Grandma for an hour.”

Work for yourself

There are few women who decide to start their own business after having a baby. There are no general statistics for the country, but, judging by the data of the Moscow Department of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, in 2018 there were less than 1.5% of those who applied for help. According to Olesya Kashaeva, most often their business is private services in their own or close professional field.

“It’s more like self-employment – a micro-business that allows you to have a small income comparable to an office salary. Usually this business is related to children – the production of children’s clothing and accessories, baking, organizing holidays … That is, something that can be combined with child care and that does not require a large initial capital,” she explains.

Thus, the composer Veronika Zatula, who resigned from the position of deputy director of the Moscow music school while still pregnant, came up with the Music Mania project in 2016. These are outdoor musical interactive programs where children learn to perceive classical music with the help of all five senses, learn different musical instruments and even create their own, put on musical performances. To promote the project, the woman learned how to create websites and mastered the basics of SMM marketing. Now Zatula also conducts music trainings and team building for adults, teaches at “Inclusion.School”.

Maria Volodko, a PR specialist from St. Petersburg, did not miss her maternity leave either. In early 2017, she came up with a home-cooked-to-order food business. At first I cooked for friends, then the first clients appeared in social networks. It turned out that this was in great demand: I had to hire an assistant, and on New Year’s Eve even limit the number of orders. “I go through all the steps and build everything from the very beginning,” she says. “At first everything was in the home kitchen, then buying refrigerators and stainless steel tables, a sea of dishes, disposable containers, literature . .. and away we go.” In the spring of last year, she opened a culinary shop “Masharyad”.

Global challenges

Women all over the world face difficulties in finding employment. Overall, women’s chances of getting a job are 26 percentage points lower than men’s, according to the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) report “Qualitative Gender Equality: A Better Future of Work for All”. In addition, women, despite a higher average level of education compared to men, make up less than a third of managers. And the global average gender pay gap remains at 20%. ILO experts partly attribute this to “weaning due to maternity” — while caring for a newborn, mothers do not have the opportunity to build a career, do not receive salary increases and bonuses.

On maternity leave instead of mother. What families need to know taking parental leave

Meanwhile, most countries have laws to support women with children. The World Bank study Women, Business and the Law 2018 (published biennially) found that, globally, the median length of paid maternity leave is in line with the ILO standard of 14 weeks, with offsetting benefits ranging from 25% to 100% earnings. Only seven countries do not have paid maternity leave—the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Suriname, Tonga and the United States.

Some countries are trying to support the employment of women by introducing parental leave, which can be used by both mother and father. More often than not, it is still used by women, so states do their best to encourage the involvement of fathers by providing additional leave or payments. Such conditions exist in Austria, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, Korea, Portugal. And in Sweden and Norway, the number of vacation days for mother and father is equal, and they cannot share them. This reduces the time a woman is absent from work and equalizes her with men in the eyes of employers.

In many countries, as in Russia, there is a state system of child care, there are programs to support young mothers in finding employment and retraining. Parents are also guaranteed the right to request flexible working hours.

Olesya Kashayeva says that she received requests to replicate the co-working project “Mom Works” in Germany, Poland, France.

Job test

According to experts, a woman with a child, if she retains her professional skills, has advantages over childless workers. First of all, it is very important for her to feed and provide the child with everything necessary, so she will be a more dedicated employee. In addition, during a forced vacation, she learns to manage time effectively and prioritize, since the baby leaves very little time for personal things.

© Vladimir Smirnov/TASS

Sometimes she may have to ask for permission. But, notes Superjob’s Svetochenko, there are also young childless workers who are constantly absent and generally not serious about work.

A good recruiter, he says, will look not at marital status, age and gender, but only at how good a specialist is in front of him. And if at the interview they are interested in whether the applicant is married and whether she plans to have children, then there are doubts about the adequacy of the company. “Therefore, if you find yourself in such a situation, run from there,” he says.

You shouldn’t lie at the interview, but you shouldn’t announce that you have a child right away. When it comes to the work schedule, it should be mentioned that there is a child and you may sometimes have to leave. Then it will be possible to discuss with the recruiter in more detail what options are possible in these cases.

During parental leave, it is better to stay up to date with what is happening in the professional field: read specialized literature and the press, take refresher courses. And then talk about it at the interview.

Psychologist Konovalov notes that after returning to work, it can be difficult for a young mother to get used to a change in the rhythm of life, lack of sleep and stress appear.
