Ratios and Group Sizes | Childcare.gov

The number of adults who are present to teach and care for your child and the other children who are playing, eating, and sleeping together in a group is known as the child-to-adult ratio.

In a child care center, a group of children is usually considered to be the children who are in the same classroom. In a family child care home, the group is all the children who are receiving care at any one time. The maximum number of children in a group is called the group size. Ratio and group size are two factors that are critical to your child’s health, safety, and development.

Low child-to-adult ratios and small group sizes help ensure that your child gets enough one-on-one attention from an adult who is available to take care of each child’s unique needs. This responsive caregiving is extremely important to your child’s social and emotional development, physical well-being, and overall learning.

This one-on-one attention helps children feel safe and secure and reduces feelings of being overwhelmed—for both children and adults. A smaller group size with enough trained adults present is easier to manage. Because adults are better able to watch and respond to a smaller group, children will be less likely to get injured or sick.

Ratio requirements vary by state and type of program. In general, the younger the children, the more trained adults should be present and the smaller the group size should be.

The following are some general recommendations from early childhood experts. Family child care homes most often care for mixed-age groups, which makes child-to-adult ratios and group sizes vary. However, smaller group sizes are always better because children receive more individual attention. Be sure to check your state’s requirements to learn more about groups with children of mixed ages and other requirements for programs in your state.

Your child’s age No more than this number of children per trained adult (child-to-adult ratio) Maximum number of children in each group or class (group size) Total number of adults in a full group or class
Infant (younger than 12 months) 1 trained adult should not care for more than 3–4 infants No more than 6–8 infants together in a group 2 trained adults should always be present in a full group of 6–8 infants
Young toddler (1–2 years) 1 trained adult should not care for more than 3–6 young toddlers No more than 6–12 young toddlers in a group or classroom 2 trained adults should always be present in a full group of 6–12 young toddlers
Older toddler (2–3 years) 1 trained adult should not care for more than 4–6 older toddlers No more than 8–12 older toddlers in a group or classroom 2 trained adults should always be present in a full group of 8–12 older toddlers
Preschooler (3–5 years) 1 trained adult should not care for more than 6–10 preschoolers No more than 12–20 preschoolers in a group or classroom 2 trained adults should always be present in a full group of 12–20 preschoolers
School age 1 trained adult should not care for more than 10–12 school-age children No more than 20–24 school-age children in a group or classroom 2 trained adults should always be present in a full group of 20–24 school-age children

Paying for Child Care – Child Development (CA Dept of Education)

Care About Quality was published by the California Department of Education in 2000.

You have set out to find the best child care possible. You may not be aware, however, just how much of the family budget, and your pay check, will be needed to cover your child care expenses.

In California, care for infants and toddlers costs an average of $700 per month, for a total of $8,400 a year. To find the right provider and keep your budget intact, there are a number of factors and choices you will want to consider.

Your child’s age is important because infants and toddlers need more specialized care, and for centers this means more caregivers per child. Centers serving preschoolers require fewer caregivers per child, so the cost can go down as much as $150 to $200 a month.

Where you live may also affect what you pay. Rates in California may vary from county to county and differ from rural to urban areas.  Monthly rates also depend on hours of care and whether your child will be receiving extended day, evening, or weekend care.

Also consider additional expenses that can sometimes raise your child care costs substantially. Registration fees, charges for care during special holidays, late pickup fees, and transportation costs can add up quickly. It will also help your budget to ask ahead of time whether your caregiver allows credits for days when your child is not in care because of illness or vacation.

It’s also important to remember that the cost of care does not necessarily equate with its quality. Don’t base your assessment of a facility on the fees or on its appearance. You may be surprised to find that a flashy entrance, shiny new equipment, or squeaky-clean everything does not guarantee high-quality child care. So look beyond your first impression and ask yourself: Is this a place where my child will be safe and where the provider will give her the kind of nurturing she needs? Will she learn, be happy, and prosper here? Your child’s safety, health, and happiness are, after all, what you are paying for. Child care expenses are an investment and in most instances a necessity. However, selecting the highest quality care pays off many times over in your child’s future.

If you find yourself needing help, there are financial resources available in California. Look for subsidized child care programs that may assist you; call 1-800-KIDS-793 for information.

Parent Tip

Depending upon your income, the state may provide assistance in paying for child care. There are several programs which pay the provider on behalf of the family. For more information, call your local child care resource and referral agency.

Love: Nanny at home.

Moscow

I am recruiting a group of children at my home. I am 43 years old, I have a higher pedagogical education, a long experience of working with children of preschool age. Why did you choose at home? I would like to work with a group of children, so it is more interesting for children to communicate with their peers. And then, if you work for an employer at home, it will definitely take time for cleaning, cooking, ironing, because. many employers include these chores in their advertisements, and I want to devote more time to the child, and you will not have a stranger at home every day. And I will try to create comfort and coziness for your children. In addition, I can prepare a child for school: learn the alphabet, teach him to read, solve simple examples, puzzles and other interesting knowledge about the world around him. I am recruiting children for a full day from July 1. I am calm about the delays of parents from work, you can also negotiate for the weekend, with great pleasure I will sit with your child. If you have friends who also need babysitting, I will only be glad. My daily routine is close to that in kindergarten, only the group will consist of 5 children.

Babysitting

We provide babysitting services in 6 Montessori mini groups.

In groups of up to 10 permanent children aged 1 year 4 months to 3 years 10 months. Children are taught by two Montessori teachers.

There are a lot of Montessori materials that develop children in the group. Children work in the water zone, the sports zone, the zone of loose bodies. In the creative zone, we draw, sculpt from clay, dough, craft, trace. We pay great attention to the development of fine motor skills.

Since there are only up to 10 permanent children in the group, our children get sick less often.

As a rule, children attend our Center until such time as there is a place in the municipal kindergarten. This can happen at any time and unexpectedly for parents.

Therefore, if you are interested in your child attending the Montessori Center, feel free to dial our number and call. We will write down your contacts and contact you when there is a free place in the group. You can get acquainted with the work of the group by agreeing in advance by phone 56 255 842.

We have been working in Mustamäe since January 2006 and all this time we have been specializing in working with children aged 1 to 3 years.

Starting from about 1 year old, the child has time to explore all the toys at home, as well as the contents of home shelves, lockers, etc. and gets used to the company of the family (mother, father, sisters, brothers, grandmothers, grandfathers, uncles, aunts) .

And for further comprehensive development, the child needs new positive impressions, new educational toys and activities, which are so many in the Montessori Children’s Center, specially selected for this age group.

And of course it will be beneficial that children, visiting our center, will get to know new people – educators, and acquire their first friends – peers. In general, all this will help children understand that in addition to the family, there are other trustworthy adults in the world, and that in addition to brothers and sisters, there are other children who are so different, with a different sometimes unusual manner of behavior, sometimes speaking in a different language, and capable of becoming friends for life!

When creating the Children’s Montessori Center (Montessori Lastekeskus), we tried to organize an environment that has everything necessary for the all-round development of the child. An environment in which the child can realize his abilities, and which meets his needs in the knowledge of the world around him at the beginning of his life path.

We promote the attitude towards the child as a unique, free, unique personality, with his own development plan, his own ways and terms of mastering the world, based on the pedagogical method of a psychiatrist and psychologist, a children’s doctor, philosopher and scientist -research by Maria Montessori (31 August 1870 – 6 May 1952).

The Montessori method is based on observing the child in natural conditions and accepting him as he is. The basic principle of the Montessori method is to encourage the child to self-education, to self-learning, to self-development. The motto of the Montessori method is: “Help me to do it myself.” The child learns mostly on his own with the help of a specially designed environment – Montessori – materials. Montessori materials contain the possibility of self-control, the child himself sees his mistakes, and the adult does not need to point them out. The role of the teacher is not to teach, but only to guide the independent activities of the child.

The services provided by our center are designed to help parents in their noble, sometimes difficult mission of raising a child. We will try to help children realize their potential in a warm, friendly atmosphere.

For children, visiting our center, especially the groups “Roosike” and “Päikseke”, is also a good opportunity for successful integration into Estonian society, as we have a natural bilingual communication environment.

How to Size Baby Shoes, with Size Chart

Choosing the correct size of baby shoes for your little one’s feet can be tricky! We’re here to help. Here is how to find the perfect shoes for your love in 5 simple steps:

1. Measure your baby’s feet with a ruler (or printable size chart)
2.Use a baby shoe size chart from the brand you’re shopping with
3. Leave a little extra room for your child’s feet to grow into their new shoes
4. Select the perfect size baby shoes for your little one
5. Once you have the shoes, confirm they fit with the “toe test” (more about this later on)

A pair of shoes with the right fit will make a huge difference for your little one. Not only is finding the right size more comfortable for them, but it also promotes healthy foot development and protects them as they explore their world more and more.

The BirdRock Baby Shoe Size Chart

Here are all of the sizes we currently offer, with a suggested age range for each. Remember that every little one’s feet grows at different speeds, so we highly recommend you measure those wigglies!

How Baby Shoe Sizing Works

Baby shoe sizes are often grouped by age. For example, you might see shoes for ages “0-6 months” or “6-9 months.” While this can be helpful, they are meant to be a starting point in your sizing journey. No two baby’s feet are the same (and sometimes your baby’s own feet will be slightly different sizes from each other), and there is no universal standard for age-based sizing.

Use age guidelines to pick a size to start with, but the safest choice is to measure your child’s foot so that you know exactly what size baby shoes they need.

How to Measure Your Baby’s Feet

So, let’s get measuring! While you can hold a ruler up to those little feet, it will probably be a challenge to get an exact measurement, especially if they are kicking or curling their toes. Plus, it is important to get a measure of the foot while standing, because the foot will tend to have a different size when under a little weight. That’s why we created our handy printable size chart!

Download Our Printable Baby Shoe Size Chart!

Make sure to measure both feet! It is normal for one foot to be bigger than the other, so you will want to know the size of both feet and shop based on the size of the bigger foot.

Now that you’ve sized your baby’s feet, you’re ready to pick their new favorite pair of baby shoes. Keep in mind that brands vary in sizing standards, so look for the exact inches or centimeters when using sizing charts.

Selecting the Correct Width

Some brands’ baby shoes are made from rigid materials that can be either too tight, or too loose on your little one’s feet. At BirdRock Baby, we make our genuine leather baby moccasins and organic cotton baby booties from soft, flexible materials that form to fit the skinniest and widest of feet. We’ve heard from thousands of parents who are surprised at how well our shoes fit their little one’s impressively chubby (or skinny) feet!

Available in sizes 2, 3, 4, 5.5, 6.5, 8, and 9.5 (suitable for little ones from birth through age 4).

Available in sizes 1, 2.5, 4, 5.5, and 7 (suitable for little ones from birth through age 2).

How to Make Sure the Fit is Correct

Once you’ve tried on your new baby shoes, you will want to double-check that all that measuring paid off. Here are a few mom tested and approved ways to confirm a perfect fit:

Visual Check

The baby shoes should appear snug and you shouldn’t see them leaving any marks on your child’s feet.

Toe Test

From your baby’s big toe, measure to the tip of the shoe. The longest toe should be between the width of your pinkie and the width of your thumb from the tip of the shoe. Any longer than that and they might trip; any less than that and they might be too snug (plus they will outgrow them fast).

This will also depend on the type of shoe, as materials vary. Moccasins are commonly made of leather and will be sturdier than say softer baby booties. The bottom line is that you want to make sure your child’s foot length isn’t restricted by their new baby shoes. If they feel too tight, they probably are (or will be soon)!

Test for Width

You should be able to pinch some of the material between your fingers at the widest point. If you can’t do this, then they are too tight. The great thing about soft sole shoes like baby moccasins is that they stretch to fit the width of your child’s feet. Moccs are perfect for both skinny feet and those larger babies who have what we in our family call “Flintstone Feet.”

Pinkie Test

Slide your pinkie between your baby’s heel and the back of the shoe. Your finger should fit without extra room for the best fit.

Common Shoe Sizing Mistakes to Avoid

If you follow the tips above, and make sure to use a size chart from the brand you’re shopping with, you shouldn’t have any problems selecting the perfect size shoes for your baby’s feet. Here are a few “gotchas” to make sure to avoid…

Hand-me-downs

Try to avoid hand-me-downs while your little one is still mastering motor skills. Shoes mold to the child’s foot through use, and hand-me-down shoes will be molded to the original wearer’s foot. This could cause irritation in places where the shoe rubs against the foot, and might even cause them to shift their weight incorrectly while walking.

Keeping an eye on foot size

They grow up so fast, and in the blink of an eye they will need to size-up about every 3-4 months. Monitor that growth with regular checks every couple months to make sure they don’t start to outgrow the shoes. It helps to set a reminder on your phone so you remember to check.

If your little starts taking shoes off, hobbling around, or rubbing their feet, those are late signs that they’ve outgrown their shoes and need a new pair quickly!

Go big!

If you have done all the calculations and find your baby between sizes, go with the larger size. A little extra room to grow is a good thing.

Why does it seem like baby shoes are always too big?

When we had our first daughter, we were always surprised with how large the baby shoes we bought were. It seemed like they were always at least one size larger than advertised! After starting BirdRock Baby, and learning the ins-and-outs of the shoe business, we learned why: this is a sneaky industry trick to prevent returns.

Many companies don’t trust their customers to choose the correct size shoe, so they make all of their shoes artificially large. They figure “our sizing might not be accurate, but the child will grow into them so the parents won’t return them!”

At BirdRock Baby, we pride ourselves in running our business with honesty and transparency. It’s no fun getting a pair of shoes that isn’t the size you expected, and that’s why our shoes are true-to-size, with accurate size charts on all of our product pages.

Any questions? We’re here to help!

We hope you’ve found our guide on sizing baby shoes helpful, and that when the time comes you’ll pick out a pair of our moccasins or booties. If you still have any questions on how to find the right size for your little one, our friendly San Diego based support team is here to help: Click Here to Contact Us.

Anatomical shoes. Guide to the selection of children’s shoes

Taking into account the questions of parents and interest in orthopedics, we continue the series of relevant and useful articles under the heading #ViccoMed
Today’s publication is devoted to: criteria for choosing the right shoes for children, based on the requirements of modern orthopedics.
We express our gratitude to Turabaev Odilbek Maksadovich for preparing a medical review of a complex topic in an accessible and interesting form for our readers.

Guidelines for the selection of children’s shoes (Turabaev O.M.)

Children’s health is perhaps the biggest concern of parents. Indeed, it is in childhood that it is easiest to cope with most diseases, including disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Children spend most of their active time in a standing position, so the choice of shoes must be approached consciously. The key to choosing the right shoes lies in the parents’ understanding of the nature of children’s development. In the previous article , we talked about this in detail and now we know that flat feet occur in 100% of newborns, arch formation begins around 3-5 years – flattening of the foot goes away on its own during the first 10-12 years of life.

Unfortunately, I have to deal with various parental beliefs that are inconsistent with the real facts. Sometimes the position of individual doctors is devoid of scientifically based medical truths. In common practice, almost half of all foot deformities, both at an early and late age, are still due to the massive prescription of orthopedic shoes to prevent flat feet. In fact, 95% of people have flat feet that are mobile, that is, the absolute norm – which is not subject to treatment, and even more so to prevention with orthopedic shoes. And only 5% of all cases relate to rigid flat feet, characterized by severe pathologies.

It is no coincidence that the new postulate of medicine was called “evidence-based medicine”, literally translated as “medicine based on facts” – it is aimed at the conscious and adequate use of the best proven results of clinical research in the treatment of a particular patient. Flat feet is a common physiological condition, it is possible to identify a deviation from the norm only in children 5 years old or older. At a younger age, it is too early to make diagnoses, just as it is forbidden to insist on orthopedic shoes so as not to interfere with the natural process. For example, O or X – figurative deformations of the legs in children, being pronounced at 3 years old, gradually disappear by 5-7 years.

“Insoles and shoes affect the shape of a child’s foot in the same way that a hat affects the shape of his head” what special shoes cannot cope with, the more they change the shape of the foot, but are designed only to alleviate the condition of children with severe deviations from the norm.
Representations of foreign experts have long refuted outdated methods of orthopedic therapy (at least forty years), back in 19In 79, the legendary American orthopedist Professor Lynn Staley published the concept , which became the basis of modern orthopedics throughout the world.
The most incontrovertible proof is China, where millions of people still prefer to walk as long as possible barefoot, or continue to walk in shoes with very flat soles. Shoes do not affect the shape of the foot.
The outcome of prevention depends on the treatment of diseases that cause deformities. In order not to repeat myself, I have already mentioned them in my article about orthopedic shoes . Perhaps we will talk about some of them and other issues of interest to you in more detail later. You can ask me questions in the comments under this article, I will try to answer everyone.

In addition to the fact that special shoes for babies are useless, the main danger of orthopedic shoes lies in the violation of the function of cushioning and mobility of the foot. Due to its excessive rigidity, heaviness and fixation, it can be compared with plaster on a healthy leg, which affects the state of development as a whole. It leads the child to excessive fatigue, and the discomfort that this shoe causes causes aching pain, reducing children’s activity to a minimum. The plasticity of gait is lost, the knee joint is involved in an irreversible process, and then the entire leg and spine. It becomes the cause of both acquired flat feet and other unpleasant diagnoses already in older, adult and even old age.

From all of the above, the conclusion follows: one should not forget to see an orthopedist, but one should not sound the alarm either. To begin with, it is worth understanding what processes and during what period of the child’s growth occur. Flat feet are part of normal development in the vast majority of young children and have no long-term consequences. Therefore, as soon as the child begins to walk, the only correct and physiological solution is anatomical shoes. Being aware of this and providing the child with the right and high-quality shoes is the task of every conscious parent.

What requirements must shoes meet?

There are a few basic rules for choosing the right shoes for your growing feet:
  • Shoes must be of good quality.
    – Quality and comfortable shoes designed to help nature maintain the anatomy of the foot as much as possible. Therefore, another definition of quality shoes in orthopedics is anatomical. Such shoes do not interfere with the function of the joints and muscles of the foot, while maintaining its mobility and cushioning, which are responsible for evenly distributing the load.
    – Protects the knees, hips and spine.
    – Strengthens the muscle tone of the legs.
    – Creates favorable conditions that do not interfere with the natural and healthy development of the foot and the activity of the baby.
  • These shoes are made from natural or eco materials – confirmed by quality certificates.

schools and kindergartens WIDE | Interview with founder and director Tatyana Airapetova | Forbes Education

Tell us how it all started?

Several years ago we moved from the south of Moscow to its north, where there were no English kindergartens where we could send our middle daughter. Nastya was only 4 years old then, and she already understood English perfectly and could speak in full sentences, as she went to an English kindergarten from the age of 2.5. We did not want to lose this progress so much, so after driving the child across the city for several months, we made a life-changing decision for our family and opened our own English kindergarten.

When I was working on launching the garden, I was already running the idea of opening my own school in my head. Ever since my son (he is now 12 years old) went to school, everything that was connected with this topic was perceived very sharply in my mother’s life. I felt helpless, I felt how time was running out, like sand through my fingers, I understood that it was unlikely that anything would change for the better, but I could not change anything.

We started with a rating school in the south-west of Moscow, which was located close to our house. There, a child who came to school with burning eyes was completely repulsed by interest in learning. I constantly had to convince him that he needed to do his homework and be active in class. We graduated from international schools, where, as my grandmother would say, there was a “beautiful sign in an empty store.” Moreover, only parents whose children studied in such schools can realize how empty these “shops” are. In the mind of any sane person, the cost of these schools, combined with the appearance, give the impression of a fundamental education, especially given their international roots.

Therefore, immediately after the opening of the first kindergarten, we began to look for premises in our area suitable for a school where our children could study. And we found such a building – in our area (a 20-minute drive from the gardens of our network), new, spacious, designed by a French architect – we immediately realized that we needed to open a school at all costs here and only here.

I have two strong convictions: firstly, few services can be put on stream without losing quality and human face, and this is definitely not preschool and school education, and secondly, a kindergarten that does not have a logical continuation in terms of educational programs, standards and approaches in the school, is a kind of semi-finished product.

More and more in today’s world both parents have employment and need suitable day care centers for their children. These early stages in a child’s life are very important to their growth and development. Choosing a good child day care center is vital, one where the adult won’t just plunk your children down in front of a soap opera all day and feed them Top Ramen. You should look for day care centers that provide learning programs and playtime for your child, along with a safe and healthy environment.

There are many different types of day care centers, ranging from basic nurseries to preschools that will provide more of a learning environment for your children. Some day care centers specialize in a specific age range, while others are more open. When you’re contemplating placing your child in a specific day care center, you should visit each one with your child. In this way, you can see how your child reacts to the other children who are there and to the caregiver. You want your child to be happy and comfortable.

While some day care centers provide a greater variety of activities than others, any good day care center is going to encourage positive interaction among all of the children. They will also have rules that promote good behavior, learning, manners, and child development. You certainly don’t want to have to worry that your child is going to develop bad habits from day care.

Providing the child care and day care services:Day Care Center / Nursery, Child Care Provider

While you don’t need to go overboard in choosing suitable day care centers, you should approach the subject seriously and with thought. Your child is going to be spending a good-sized portion of his or her life in day cares and you want to make sure it is going to be a positive experience. Family is the most important thing in the world and you should make sure that your children are your first priority.
When you are considering a day care center, you should look at where it is located and how much it costs. There’s not much sense in putting your son or daughter in daycare so that you can work full time and spending most of what you earn on the day care center’s tuitions and your travel expenses. If that’s the case, you might as well stay home with your child. However, if you do truly need the money, there are usually plenty of day care services available and it shouldn’t be too difficult to find one close by that is reasonably priced.

Different Kinds of Child day Care Centers

While child day care centers are common, there is such a huge demand for this service that there are now quite a variety of options available other than basic day care. These include the following:

    • Home child care or family childcare
    • Child care services
    • Preschool
    • Nursery

Home child care tends to be the most popular option because it is generally more affordable and a smaller environment. While some day care centers are quite large and can provide better early childhood education, it is also more difficult for each child to receive personal attention. Day care centers that are based out of someone’s home are usually more personal and your child can receive more care and nurturing. Most parents want their children to be receiving love and affection, the care that they themselves would give them. They don’t want a day care business that is merely going to make sure that their child is still alive and adequately healthy.

Home child care providers are also more adaptable, generally speaking. This means that if your child likes a certain song sung to them before they take their nap each day, the home care provider is more likely to be willing to do that than someone in a larger day care facility. Most adult home child care providers are parents themselves, making them better able to understand and love your child.

    Other Things to Think About

One of the first steps you should take after picking out a family day care center that you think will be suitable for your child is do a little investigating. This can involve talking to the parents of the other children that use the child day care center to see what they think about it. You should also always check to make sure the child care service you are considering is legally licensed to operate in your state. Licensing officials check criminal records and ensure that the child care provider has emergency response training and a safe and healthy environment for the children.
As mentioned earlier, it is a good idea to visit the child day care center that you are considering. You should do this at least a couple of times, and try to go at different times of the day so that you can get a better idea of what kind of schedule they have. This will help you to see how your own child would fit in.
If you are having difficulties finding the appropriate child care environment for your son or daughter, there are some other options. Some people get family and friends to help out, while others hire a nanny. Adult nannies are a good option because they ensure that your child receives personal attention and quality child care. However, this also means that your child will not receive as much social interaction since he or she won’t have other children to play with like in a family day care center.

No matter what option you decide to go with, make sure that you know who you are leaving your child with.  Meet them, get to know them, and let your child do the same. Do some research on the internet to make sure that no one has had negative experiences with the day care center you are considering. Check to make sure that they are legally licensed. Once you have done all of this, you can feel more confident and secure in knowing that you have chosen the right day care center for your child.

    Switching Day Care Centers

    Choosing Another Child Care Provider

So you want to switch day care providers for your kids but you don’t know where to start or what to choose among the plethora of options out there in this world. It is fittingly one of the most important decisions of a young parent’s journey due to the fact that a child’s first formative years up until the age of six is critical. It is important for parents to not just consider the monetary impact of these choices but also the emotional, intellectual, and social future impacts the choice of a day care provider will have on their kids in the long term future. So let’s discuss some general tips to consider for the parent and the child to consider when one is looking to switch day care providers within a short time frame.

First, you must consider the cost of attending some of the more prestigious and rigorous day care provider centers in your area. In some areas, let’s face the reality that the more money per month per child spent; the better the facilities and the educational value experience offered for your child. Things such as using smart boards and I Pad’s to enhance the learning experience is a very real possibility in these places. However, if a parent is budget conscious they can still afford this experience but it would mean cutting back on all or most non-necessity spending. This would include curbing your eating out habits as well as any leisure entertainment or travel activity and place that money instead into your child’s future day care home. If an expensive day care sees that you are making an effort to keep up with the payments; then they will be more willing to work with you and not let your child leave that place. For a child going to this environment, they need to consider whether or not they will fit into this environment, things like playtime, feeding time, and individual care of the staff- is it received well by the child? These will make the difference between choosing these ones or a cheaper alternative. Cheaper is not all bad if the quality and availability of care is there for your child in the first place.

Secondly, you need to consider your travel times and distance of day care relative to your work and other important places like the hospital, grocery store, bank, and places that you frequent on a daily basis. Is it near enough that you can get to your child should he/she become ill or need special attention so that the day care center can contact you and arrange a meeting with you the same day if needed.

Furthermore, you need to consider the overall cleanliness and friendliness of the day care center provider. Do not underestimate a clean environment for your kid to play and learn in with other kids. Your kid will enjoy making new friends in a clean and safe environment. Plus you as a parent will enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that your child will not be being home any unwanted germs and diseases into your house. Parents must also consider if there is a dispute over payment and care; how does the management and staff deal with such requests? If there is a lackadaisical approach to your core issues; then that is a bad prelude of things to come concerning your child’s care. Your child will probably feel like he/she is being neglected or not fed on time and will start to complain to you ever so slightly that something is not right. When they do, do not hesitate to take them out of that day care center and find another one immediately.

In a recessionary economy, it is okay and permissible for both parents and kids to demand the best care for their dollar. Make your day care dollar stretch by reading all of the material and brochures and visiting every day center on your list until you find that perfect fit for your child. It’s out there; it is just waiting on you to find it!

Child Care Options for Low Income Families

One of the most frustrating aspects of being a working citizen is not having the ability to afford childcare. The majority of day care facilities charge as much as $300 per week for each child. That amount is difficult for middle-class citizens to pay. Low-income families cannot fathom paying such an expense. Luckily, the government and the various states have developed programs that help low-income families get the childcare they deserve. The following is some information on those programs:

    Extended Day Program

The extended day program can assist low-income working parents during the regular school year. Many school districts offer this program. The school keeps children before and after school hours for a small monthly fee. A parent can drop a child off as early as 7:00 a.m. and pick the child up as late as 6:00 p.m. This program is excellent for low-income workers with daytime weekday jobs. The cost is approximately $150 per month for before and after school. The weekly rate is approximately $37.50, which is extremely competitive.

The attendants participate in various activities with the children before and after school. They help the children with their homework so that the parents have less stress when they come home from work. They give the children a full breakfast in the morning program and a snack in the evening program. Parents can opt to pay for the morning program only, the evening program only, or both programs. The evening program is the more expensive of the two because it lasts so many hours after the school releases the children. The evening program is $100 while the morning program is $52.

    The Child Care Assistance Program

CCAP is a special program that provides childcare assistance to certain low-income families. People who are collecting TANF are automatically eligible to receive this assistance. Teenage parents who are working on obtaining their educations are also eligible for CCAP. Those who are not collecting TANF can still qualify if they are pursuing education that will improve their work skills and job opportunities. Parents can apply for CCAP assistance with the Department of Children & Family Services. The financial guidelines for qualification are along the lines of a $3,000 per month income threshold for a four-person family. The applicant must have proof of income, social security cards, birth certificates, and immunization records for all children. Application processing can take up to 30 days.

    Head Start

Head start is a program for children between the ages of three and five. The program provides childcare services and medical services to the children who qualify. It is funded by the Administration of Children’s Services. The Head Start program covers childcare from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Teachers work with the children to fine-tune their social and developmental skills. Those who are interested in the program may apply online. Applicants go on a waitlist until there is an available slot in the program. It is best for an interested person to complete an application as quickly as possible since the wait may be extended.

    Child Care Voucher Program

The Child Care Voucher Program is in effect in many states throughout the United States. It provides a subsidy of up to 95 percent of childcare cost to low-income families. Subsidy recipients will choose an eligible provider from the list of licensed providers. They may also select a relative or an in-home provider. The Child Care Voucher Program covers the childcare from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. This is known as the traditional childcare period. However, the program also covers non-traditional times for parents who work odd shifts. It covers nights, weekends, and evenings.

A wide variety of options is available for low-income childcare. Many stay-at-home moms also run small day care businesses in which they discount their services. There is a way to make working and taking care of your children affordable.

Life changes its requirements every day. To match the time it is very important to have certain qualities.

What should our children be prepared for? At what point in time are qualities laid down that allow a person to take responsibility for his life? Surprise, but under the age of 10 years! And it is very important that the child receives a developing environment around him that allows him to find everything necessary at the right time so that certain qualities of character begin to form. From 10 to 12, different strategies of behavior are recruited. From 12 to 14 goals are worked out, and from 14 comes the stage of how to move and where in this big world. Children are not looking for adult help, they are looking for support in independent searches.

Success is a very relative concept and lies in the realm of external evaluations. The state of happiness is more specifically how a person feels inside. It has to do with self-satisfaction.

What Is Family Heritage? | Healthfully

One might wonder why the term family heritage does not carry a dictionary definition 23. Therefore, to understand family heritage it may be helpful to examine both words of the phrase. Both words have varying meanings, which could influence how family heritage may be defined.

The first meaning that is given refers to small groups of people, which usually consist of one or two parents and their children. Family heritage may also refer to a specific tradition or culture passed down throughout the ages. Unfortunately, this can also refer to “poverty and suffering” that belongs to one by reason of birth.

Aspects such as an individual’s material status in society may be largely influenced by clearly defined inherited rights and traits, which some cultures may use as a way to implement rank in their governmental systems. Nevertheless, family heritage may also refer to the qualities of “honor, pride and courage” passed down through generations.

7 Ways to Teach Your Kids Their Family Heritage

Scroll Back to the Top of This PageSkip to content

Growing up in my family meant Christmas dinners of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with flaming figgy pudding for dessert, all enjoyed while wearing paper crowns ripped from Christmas crackers. These were not just fun Christmas traditions, they were lessons in my family’s cultural heritage—my mother was born and raised in London, England.

In an effort to assimilate into the American way of life, many families have discarded their cultural customs in favor of new traditions. But learning about other countries and cultures is an important part of a child’s education and where better to start than with one’s own family.

In fact, researchers at Emory University discovered that kids are emotionally healthier and have a better sense of self if they’ve been taught about their relatives and their family history. “Family stories provide a sense of identity through time, and help children understand who they are in the world,” the researchers reported in their paper titled “Do You Know? The power of family history in adolescent identity and well-being.”

The population of first- and second-generation immigrant children continues to grow in the United States, and it’s important they be taught their families’ heritage in addition to their new country’s traditions. But even if you have to research your own lineage to discover your family’s country of origin, which may go back to many prior generations, it should be part your child’s education.

Here are some ways to teach your children about their own heritage.

    1. Start with the Earlier Generations

Grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, and uncles who are originally from other parts of the world can offer a wealth of information about their native country. Suggest that your children interview these relatives, asking questions about where they grew up, the types of foods they ate, traditions they practiced, games they played, and the holidays they celebrated. Discuss which of these traditions your family might be able to carry on such as celebrating a national holiday.

    2. Learn with Food

There are often specific types of foods associated with individual countries. An enjoyable way to learn about another country is to indulge in its most popular dishes. Teach your kids a favorite family recipe and you’ll make memories that could last a lifetime. Plus, cooking with your kids can be an unexpected learning opportunity. Or visit a restaurant that serves the types of food indigenous in the country that is part of your family’s history. As your kids enjoy the food, provide instruction on how it is prepared and eaten and, perhaps, some history on the origin of the meal.

    3. Visit Cultural Festivals and Museum Exhibits

Many cities and towns in the U.S. hold cultural events celebrating a particular country or region, often around specific holidays such as Cinco de Mayo, Chinese New Year, and St. Patrick’s Day. These events offer an ideal way for kids to learn about a particular culture as they dance to the music, sample the food, and see native costumes on display. Many amusement parks and museums will feature cultural exhibits throughout the year, offering fun educational opportunities to learn about another country’s culture.

    4. Incorporate Traditions

Whether you have first-hand information about your family’s cultural heritage or must go back to former generations, you can still incorporate some popular traditions for your family today. Research your family’s cultural roots and discover what practices might fit with your family’s lifestyle. It could be celebrating the country’s most popular holiday or incorporating customs into holidays that you already celebrate. Or choose one day to immerse your family into your chosen culture, serving the appropriate meals, speaking in that language (if appropriate and possible), and watching movies from that country.

    5. Educate with Books and Movies

Many books are available to teach kids about other countries. Read to your younger kids from books with characters from the country of your family’s heritage and encourage your teenagers to choose books that describe the country’s culture and history. Have a family movie night featuring a movie that takes place in that country, and then discuss the differences and similarities when compared to your hometown.

    6. Learn the Language

Parents who have emigrated from other countries are likely already teaching their kids their native language. But kids in later generations may not learn the language of their relatives. And that would be a loss as there are many benefits of learning other languages. If you have nearby relatives in your family who speak another language, take advantage of their linguistic skills, perhaps to complement a language class your child is taking in school.

    7. Explore Your Family Tree

Not sure what your family’s origins are? Visit ancestry.com or a similar site to discover your own family tree. Even if you must go back many generations to learn what countries your family came from before arriving in the United States, it will be fun and educational to learn the cultures and histories of those nations.

If you are looking for more inspiration to dig into your family’s heritage, you might tune into PBS’s episodes of Finding Your Roots, in which Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. helps celebrities and others discover their hidden family histories.

Learning about their family’s heritage can provide kids with an important connection to their own identities and open up a new world into other cultures and traditions. Don’t let your family’s heritage slip away without teaching it to your children.

Inheritance of family values in the process of preserving intangible cultural heritage

Annotation. The article emphasizes the importance of applying the axiological approach in the study of family and clan heritage as an integral part of the intangible cultural heritage. Special attention is paid to family values in the context of state and public service.

Key words: family values, intangible cultural heritage, traditions, religion.

      Open PDF-file

In recent years, the study of intangible cultural heritage has gained great importance, the appeal to which is necessary for the preservation, inheritance and updating of socially significant values in the socio-cultural space, the educational and educational process, in particular, in the preparation of future specialists – culturologists, historians and educators. The significance of the heritage was noted by experts at a meeting of the Council for Interethnic Relations, and Russian President Vladimir Putin declared 2022 the Year of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. In the context of the modern transformation of the institution of the family, interpersonal relations and the hierarchy of values in the family, postmodern discourse, an axiological approach to the topic of family and ancestral heritage is extremely important as the basis for preserving the cultural memory of a person.

This topic is also relevant in the context of the implementation of the “Strategy of the state cultural policy for the period up to 2030”. The text of the Strategy notes the following: “The weakening of the role of the family and family relations in the system of value orientations of citizens of the Russian Federation contributes to the fact that there is a gap recorded by sociologists of previously stable social ties (friendly, family, neighborly), as well as an increase in individualism and the number of divorces … All this does not contribute to the transfer from generation to generation of values and norms, traditions and customs traditional for the Russian Federation, violates previously stable intergenerational ties in the transfer of cultural, ethnic traditions and knowledge…” [1].

In this regard, the study of the mechanisms of inheritance of cultural memory in the context of intergenerational ties is of particular relevance. It is in the family as a conservative and ever-renewing public institution that the versatile development of the individual, the assimilation of values and cultural norms, as well as the formation of a number of moral principles take place, including: reverence for ancestors, loyalty to one’s work, patriotism, responsibility, diligence and creativity, a sense of moral duty and the desire to benefit society and the country.

Family values are largely based on religious heritage, so it is especially important to unite the efforts of representatives of Russia’s traditional religions in this direction. In particular, this concerns the study by young people of ideas about the family in traditional religions, as well as their huge contribution to national culture. Modern studies note the spiritual and moral potential of traditional religions as a significant element in the development of socio-cultural life and human security in our country [2].

It seems necessary to implement an interdisciplinary approach in studying the role of the family in the moral development of the younger generation, as well as the interaction of representatives of traditional religions in Russia in the process of popularizing family values. The family is currently the custodian of outgoing values and the creator of new traditions. Modern scientific studies of the role of the family in the moral formation of the younger generation should become known to teachers working in schools, as well as representatives of public and religious organizations working in this direction.

Appeal to family and ancestral heritage is important, in particular, for identifying and preserving specific forms of intangible cultural heritage, as well as for scientific support and the prospects for including events and research related to the promotion of images of representatives of all classes as a significant area of cultural, family and youth policy. The continuity in the intangible cultural heritage is most clearly manifested in the activities of representatives of professional dynasties, which are “a historically established, relatively stable phenomenon that ensures the inheritance from generation to generation of the content of labor and traditions” [3]. Family values, reflected in literature, art, folk crafts, are one of the significant examples of the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage.

In his dissertation research “Problems of inheritance of cultural values of the family in the era of depopulation”, M.G. Kuchmaev notes: “At present, value orientations are of particular importance for the numerous motives of the cultural activity of the family and its members, as well as for the nature and content of the activity itself . It should include:

      – social adaptation or, otherwise, the entry of the family and its members into the macro- and microsociety as independent subjects of social processes. At the same time, the family not only passively adapts to negative or other social phenomena, but also develops active forms of overcoming them, improving them and thus acting as a sociocultural community;

      – the solution of socio-cultural problems that allow the family to both survive in difficult social conditions and deepen the processes of self-organization, mutual assistance and mutual support, development of personal growth relationships … “[4].

The development of the traditions of the socio-cultural community is necessary for the preservation of the intangible cultural heritage. The axiological approach allows one to critically comprehend its various aspects, selectively treat the issue of actualization (based on positive experience and search for moral dominants). Appeal to the traditions of state and public service is a separate aspect of the study of this type of heritage.

As an example of the continuity of state and public service, we studied the Lopukhin family, which originated in 1022, whose moral and ethical principles were most clearly manifested in the conditions of global civilizational conflicts and turning points in their lives. The deep characteristics of the family and the desire for creation have always been preserved. Adherence to certain traditions was equally manifested both in internal conflicts and in external threats.

Lopukhins’ name is associated with many places in Russia. In the future, it is planned to hold a number of memorial events dedicated to the iconic representative of the Lopukhin family – His Serene Highness Prince Peter Vasilyevich, an outstanding statesman, real Privy Councilor of the 1st class, Chairman of the State and Committee of Ministers of the Russian Empire, which he headed for the longest time in Russian history. He is known for his service in senior positions to four emperors of Russia from Catherine II to Nicholas I. Peter Vasilyevich participated both in lawmaking and in social service.

The cultural and historical heritage of the clan was reflected, in particular, in architectural monuments (temples and estates). Such eminent architects as M.F. Kazakov, V.I. Bazhenov, J. Quarenghi, N.A. Lvov and other masters took part in their creation.

Lopukhins were also known for their good deeds: they built schools, hospitals, shelters, patronized their activities. In the main inventory of the Spaso-Andronikov Monastery, kept in the funds of the Central Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art. Andrei Rublev, one can find multiple references to the donations of the Lopukhins [5].

Currently, work is underway to systematize information about tangible and intangible objects of cultural heritage associated with representatives of this genus. This work will make it possible to update the theme of family values in excursion routes and lectures, as well as other forms of educational work aimed at returning cultural and historical memory.

Family values as an integral part of intangible cultural heritage can become part of a national project. The historical and cultural experience of childbirth can be in demand at the present time in modern forms of social consciousness and education of the younger generation. The analysis of the axiological foundations of the intangible cultural heritage is inseparable from the study of the historical and modern culture of the family, which is experiencing a change in worldview paradigms in the face of civilizational challenges.

Cultural and historical heritage of the clan and family as one of the priorities of the modern state cultural policy of Russia The article focuses on the importance of studying the heritage of the clan as a component of the intangible cultural heritage. The cultural and historical heritage of the clan is proposed to be considered as an object of tourist activity, as well as scientific and local history research.

Key words: clan, family, genealogy, intangible cultural heritage, values, traditions, family leisure, tourism activities, civilization.

      Open PDF file

At the present time, when it is important to unite society in understanding the values and traditions of Russian civilization, including the history of each family, each clan, it seems relevant to address the topic of the cultural and historical heritage of a particular person as an important component of intangible cultural heritage of the whole country.

Genus and family represent a very special environment, a set and, in a certain sense, a hierarchy and sphere of existence of socio-cultural values (when the life of generations is embodied in modern times and the contribution of the most prominent representatives of the family name to the formation of a specific cultural and historical environment is revealed). This aspect is important for the development of cultural aspects of genealogy and familiarizing the modern generation with the historical traditions of the culture of everyday life.

Family tourism as a form of mastering the original cultural and historical heritage has a unifying value for representatives of different age categories. The heritage of the family, which is in the center of the formation of a special circle of sights and memorable places, has a significant educational, creative and patriotic potential.

The living heritage of the family, preserved in the spiritual and intellectual space of the Russian city, is diverse. As an example, carriers of family values living in the homes of their ancestors. In particular, in Moscow it is the estate of the Polezhaev-Zubovs (merchants, philanthropists), the house of the writer D.N. Teleshov. In general, this applies to temples, estates and residential buildings created with the participation of representatives of a particular family. In the process of addressing the fate of the ancestral heritage, it is also important to identify historical and family ties between the person and the place. These can be places associated with charitable, creative, educational activities or military service. It also includes contributions to monasteries and gifts of art and culture to museums. Family heritage should be the object of scientific and local history research, in which scientists, local historians and enthusiastic people who love their small homeland can participate.

When considering issues of family heritage, an all-class approach to the traditions of service is important: noble, priestly, merchant, peasant families. Their heritage is a potential object of tourist activity, which involves inclusion in such a popular route as the Golden Ring, as well as in other tourist places in Russia. Of course, this direction is especially important for small towns. The creation and development of tourist and excursion routes on topics related to the history of specific people, families and clans will contribute to the actualization of intangible heritage and the popularization of unknown and little-known surnames. Such a direction is an educational form of family leisure, since it involves not only the objects related to the family business of people who lived in the past, but also the moral principles that permeated their way of life. Thus, the perception of a city or a rural settlement is formed through the prism of the history of a person, family and clan.

In this regard, an excursion into the family memorial space may also be of interest – contact with legends, documents, epistolary heritage, relics stored in national treasuries and archives: the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts, the Central State Archive of Moscow, the Russian State Library, the State historical museum and others. This is participation in meetings with representatives of families and clans that once belonged to various estates of imperial Russia, including with hereditary figures of culture and art. In the process of our educational project “A Living Legacy of Memory”, participants talk about the values and traditions in the life of their family.

It seems significant to divide the theme of the cultural and historical heritage of the clan and family into thematic blocks. That is, representatives of different clans and estates can be united by charity, sacrificial feat in the name of the Fatherland, values and qualities that have been formed and transmitted over generations (everything that is higher than blood relationship – devotion to an idea, honor, loyalty to a given word, duty, patriotism and etc.) So, for example, the well-known noble family of the Lopukhins we are studying is an example of the diversity of types of service (among the representatives of this family there were statesmen, military leaders, educators, writers, builders of temples). The directions of their ministry were inextricably linked with the needs of a particular era.

Another direction on the way of preserving and mastering the ancestral heritage in generations is thematic trips, lectures and master classes, within which special attention is paid to the topic of continuity, hereditary mastery and familiarization with the traditions of artistic heritage: technologies, crafts, handicrafts, transmitted from generation to generation. At the same time, continuity is revealed as a creative developing phenomenon.

In his work “The Way to the All-Man. The world as a whole in the concept of culture of M.M. Prishvin” I.K. Kuchmaeva, referring to the cultural heritage of the writer, quotes M.M. in cuffs and cufflinks, but in kinship between all people” [1]. The topic of continuity and inheritance of the value world of culture is devoted to another book by I.K. Kuchmaeva – “Social patterns and mechanisms of inheritance of culture” [2].

The study and popularization of the heritage of the family and clan is important for preserving the national memory of the people, which reflects the fate and participation of ancestors in national events, for maintaining the connection between the clan and civilization, family and collective historical memory. The expansion of research and educational work to study and disseminate knowledge about the cultural and historical heritage of the clan and family, as well as the inclusion of identified objects of the heritage of families and clans in tourist routes and local history activities, will undoubtedly become an important component in the system of updating the intangible cultural heritage of Russia.

City of Knoxville, Tennessee | Atlanta Travel

The atlantatravelblog.com blog continues its travels from Atlanta. Your attention is the city of Knoxville, located in the state of Tennessee neighboring Georgia.

        2. A good way to get to know the city is to go to its center, to the World’s Fair Park , founded for the 1982 International Trade Fair. A similar exhibition was held in Montreal at 1967 year. In the park is the golden dome of the monument tower Sunsphere with a height of 81.07 meters, an observation deck, free of charge, protected from the sun and air-conditioned. One problem – the golden tinted windows somewhat spoils the color rendition. It is also worth adding that Ernő Rubik, the author of the famous Rubik’s Cube

3, was the highlight of the exhibition-82 program.

        4. Until the end of the 18th century, the territory of modern Knoxville belonged to the Cherokee Indians. The first European settlement dates back to 1786.

        5. Road junctions of the city. Where would America be without them?!

        6. World’s Fair Park

        7. Candy Factory building. Currently, it has been converted into residential apartments, but a pastry shop continues to operate on the ground floor.

        8. Knoxville Museum of Art.

        9. The city of Knoxville has significant elevation changes that are smoothed out by footbridges.

        10. Local transport.

        11. Historic District Market Square . As expected, there is a market here on Saturdays.

        12

        13. Great place to watch live football matches.

        14. Sculptural compositions in Market Square.

        15

        16. Children attack the fountain on a hot summer morning.

        17. Gay Street is the main street in downtown Knoxville.

18 Guy Street has shops, restaurants, a cinema and a concert hall.

        19. Many fences in the city are made of polished aluminium.

        20. A narrow street in the center with cafe tables.

        21. Theater Tennessee Theater , whose building is designed in the Moorish style. Opened in 1927, completely renovated in 2005.

        22. Knoxville is famous for the University of Tennessee and the Tennessee Volunteers with a big orange T.

        23. Knoxville is the birthplace of actor Philip John Clapp, known as Johnny Knoxville and best known for his TV series Jackass.

THE Top 10 Daycares in Medina, OH

      Daycares in Medina, OH

      Description:

Looking for an energetic, compassionate, and all around fun childcare provider? Well you’ve found her! 🙂 I have 5+ years of professional childcare experience, and being the oldest cousin out of 16, I have hada lifetime of helping to care for younger children.
I have an In-Home Family Daycare here in Medina where I provide meals, snacks, and school transportation. When we’re not eating or doing the school shuffle, we love doing arts and crafts, playing board games, having dance parties, building forts, playing dress up, creating Lego masterpieces, digging in the dirt, baking goodies, and much more!
With summer right around the corner I have a full schedule of field trips planned some include: going to the zoo, a tour of a local pizza shop, bowling, ceramic paintings, nature walks, swimming and picnics! Each week is a new theme with crafts and activities as well!
I am certified in CPR, completed training for First Aid and Communicable Disease, Child Abuse and Neglect, and I am also fluent in American Sign Language.
My main goal for your family is peace of mind balanced with a whole lot of fun!
**I currently have 2 openings left to fill for summertime and I am currently accepting ages 4-11….

      Description:

I have many years of experience with children of all ages. I assisted my sister in raising her three children that are now all well into their 20 s. I have my own children that are ages 9 (daughter) and age 4(son). I currently care for an 18-month-old boy and his 4-year-old sister. I have watched them since the youngest was 2 months. I have openings currently because two of the other children I cared for in addition to the ones listed are now currently enrolled in school full time.
My education has varied through the years. I initially attended college in Virginia for early childhood education but later decided to move towards legal studies and graduated with my Bachelors Degree. My goal was to become a family mediator to work as a child advocate. Having my own children convinced me that I need to be more hands on with little ones.
A little about what we do during the day.
I offer transportation to and from school (schedules and location permitting) and accommodate before and after care with homework assistance. For preschool ages, I have a very structured program. I have two educational blocks during the day. Block one begins after breakfast and another after nap.
      The schedule is typically:
      9 breakfast.
10-learning block which consist of number and letter recognition, primary colors and Spanish.
After learning block it’s free play until lunch.
      Noon – lunch.
12:45 p.m. nap time which varies per child so we have quiet activities while others nap.
3:45 p.m. afternoon learning block and then free play until pick up. We have occasional changes to schedule but likely a half hour off at most.
I have a large fenced in yard and separate spaces in my home designated for childcare.
I also have many security features including a home alarm to keep your children safe.
We also schedule trips to the zoo in the summer and there are many trips to local parks. We also enjoy the occasional pizza party and ice cream socials. When the schools call off or have planned services days, we like to plan for a movie and popcorn. We have a great time while also practicing our manner and respect for one another. You will also receive many projects and pictures of your child through the day with daily updates of our activities.
      I’m child and adult CPR/FA Certified…

      Description:

You let us know when your schedule requires our childcare and educational services by making a reservation in advance, calling us as you’re driving over to our center in your car or simply walking through our door.
Most importantly, we offer a high-quality, proprietary curriculum and are staffed by the best teachers in the industry. In addition to our drop-off service, we offer preschool, camps, before- and after-school care and classes for children and their parents.

Muslim Kindergarten “Medinochka” – Center for Education “Medina”

Muslim kindergartens exist in many countries of the world, and usually have high educational performance. Their main advantage is that qualitative knowledge is supplemented by moral education. In Moscow, the only place where preparation for school is combined with Islamic education is our Muslim kindergarten “Medinochka”.

Trusting us with your child, you can be sure that during the 4 hours spent in the kindergarten, the child will receive a full and comprehensive development of the best qualities of his personality.

Muslim kindergarten in Moscow “Medinochka” embodied the idea of harmonious education of the child, paying attention to all aspects of quality preschool education:

      1. Intellectual development

Our program is based on some of the best teaching practices around the world. We rely on the Zaitsev method. With the help of Zaitsev’s cubes, the baby first learns letters and numbers, and then reading and counting. In the game, information is remembered much better, the child does not feel tired and pressure, which means that the learning process does not bore him. We supplement the teaching of writing, reading and mathematics with the Montessori method. As part of this technique, we use many different materials of different textures to activate tactile memory. In addition, we are introducing elements of the classical school approach, which is very important for future adaptation to school. We are guided by an individual approach to each child. Indeed, in its pure form, no technique can be 100% suitable for everyone. Therefore, in our program, we use the best of different methods. And we select the most effective combination of them for each child. So that the learning process brings not only results, but also joy.

In “Medinochka” classes are held through play and outdoor games.

      1. Arabic

Arabic language for children in our kindergarten “Medinochka” is taught according to a unique program, which has no analogues in Russia. Our methodology is focused directly on the children’s audience, starting from 3 years. The secret of such success lies in the main principles of the program: the language environment and the game form of the lesson. Most of the lesson the teacher speaks Arabic, creating an atmosphere of complete immersion in the language environment. In addition, the classes are based on games, which is very popular with children. Through outdoor games, puzzles, elements of drawing and singing, we make Arabic vocabulary, grammar and listening easy to perceive. At the end of two years of study, our little graduates can easily communicate on everyday topics, understand Arabic speech, tell something about themselves and answer questions.

      1. Spiritual education

We pay special attention to the spiritual upbringing of children. Because we are sure that it is at an early age that all values and moral principles are laid. Talking about the ethical norms of Islam, we help our children grow up as real Muslims and decent, honest, kind people. Children are instilled with traditional Islamic respect for parents and reverence for elders. From an early age, we teach children to take care of the younger ones, help the elderly and support the weak. In our center with teachers who profess Islam and introduce children to its basics, children quickly learn the basics of Islamic behavior in society, from an early age begin to distinguish between halal and haram, learn religious traditions and customs. Every day, children learn the basics of Muslim culture, etiquette, and the history of the prophets.

5 Tips to Prevent Your Children from Drawing on the Walls

      5 minutes

      Last update: 06 July, 2018

The habit of drawing on the walls is caused by your child’s underdeveloped motor coordination. This makes the child uncomfortable when it comes to drawing on a piece of paper while sitting on a table.

There are no standard rules to prevent children from drawing on the walls. It’s all about being creative and using common sense.

As parents we should focus on finding solutions rather than scolding our children for their spontaneity. If we focus on solutions, they will understand us better. We’ll also avoid becoming the “villains” that restrict their interests.

      Normal phase of growth

Children begin to embark on an artistic phase around the age of two which is characterized by drawing on the walls.

During this phase, the walls become the ideal canvas because children can easily support their hands and the tip of the crayon or marker, in order to create an image.

Of course, as parents we are touched by these actions, especially when our children seem to be striving like struggling artists.

However, it isn’t pleasant to have to regularly repaint the walls of the house due to our children’s artistic hyperactivity.

5 tips to prevent your children from drawing on the walls

      1. Blackboard-like wall sheets

These wall sheets can be found in different sizes in school supply stores. They can also be found online.

They consist of a smooth surface that creates a completely functional blackboard effect. Colored markers work very well on these sheets.

These wall sheets can be applied to any flat surface. They are ideal when it comes to preventing children from drawing on the wall.

As for its location, it’s ideal to paste them up in the child’s room, since that is where they tend to focus their artistic inspiration.

      2. Blackboard

Blackboards are used quite commonly in these situations. However, if your child is allergic or suffers from asthma, it’s best to avoid them. The dust created by chalk can be harmful to their health.

If your child doesn’t suffer from the aforementioned conditions, blackboards are ideal. They can be reused constantly without too much maintenance.

If your child is between the age of 3 and 4, the blackboard can be provided for them as an area to express themselves. At this age, they’re able to understand that they can use the blackboard as a tool to create whatever they want.

      3. Easy-to-clean paint or crayons

There are anti-adherent paints that are available which can be cleaned easily without creating stains. These markers or paints can be cleaned as easily as specks of dust on the walls.

You can also find special crayons which can easily be cleaned with a dry or semi-wet cloth. This tip doesn’t prevent children from drawing on the walls, however it does solve the problem of having to repaint the walls constantly.

      4. Creativity and responsibility

Although your child may already have a designated drawing area or a blackboard, some children have the impulse to make any plain color wall their personal canvas.

A good way to prevent children from drawing outside of their designated spaces is to incorporate them in the cleaning of their creations afterwards. They should be given this responsibility naturally, not as a punishment for their behavior.

The idea of having the child participate in the cleanup of their creations is an educational and didactic activity. It’s not punishment. It’s important to make the child aware of the consequences of their actions. This will also teach the child about the importance of responsibility.

Children should learn the basic rules that allow them to coexist harmoniously in the house. This includes cleaning their messes.

      5. Large papers

Sure, there are wall papers that have a blackboard effect that can be left on for long periods of time. However, if you don’t like this option or if you simply cannot buy the material which is described in tip 1, you can use large sheets of paper.

These large sheets of paper can be stuck to the wall using transparent tape. This will give your child a designated space to draw on, preventing them for drawing on other walls in the house.

Therefore, your child will be able to express their artistic inspiration without creating a mess.

The only disadvantage of these large sheets of paper is that they have to be changed regularly and they can’t be reused. However, some mothers have come up with a special technique to reuse these papers.

Once their children have used both sides of the sheets, they mark their art with their hand prints using said paint. This way the child can use the same sheet of paper 3 times. This also gives the child a different way to express their artistic spirit.

      Additional advice

      • As we previously mentioned, children don’t draw on the wall simply because it is entertaining, they also do it because they find it more comfortable to make strokes while standing up to a smooth vertical surface. With time, your child will develop their motor skills. It’s important for you to create a designated space where they will be able to express their artistic spirit.
      • Colored chalk and crayons are the best options for your child’s drawings. Avoid bringing markers or paint. Remember that they don’t only draw on the walls, they also draw on furniture. In this sense, chalk and crayon are a bit easier to remove from different surfaces.

6 Fascinating Reasons Why Toddlers Draw on Walls (And How You Can Stop Them)

Toddlers draw on walls. Find out why this happens and what you can do about it.

I was busy washing dishes when I heard my 6 year old gasp loudly in the bedroom.

      “Mom come here, quick”

Without washing off my soapy hands, I rushed to the room. I stared in horror at the sight before me.

Dark blue doodles, distorted hearts and incoherent writing all over the white walls greeted me. My toddler gave me a cheeky grin and pointed in excitement at her art work.

Now that the third wall in our house has been massacred at the hands of my artistic little one, I’d like to share with you everything I’ve researched on WHY toddlers draw on walls and as a frustrated parent what can you do about it.

6 Reasons Toddlers Draw on Walls

This post contains affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

      1. Expression of creativity

All humans, no matter how tiny, have an innate desire to express themselves. Your toddler is no exception.

She wants to show you her creativity and there’s nothing that comes more naturally than wanting to draw.

In your child’s eyes, she’s created a masterpiece and is expecting you to praise her for it. The doodles on the wall are not her idea of winding you up. They’re her idea of showing off her creative genius.

If it makes you feel any better, she’s actually following the footsteps of her ancestors who used to  make inscriptions on the cave walls.

      2. Development of skills

Being able to hold a crayon in the fist, put it against a surface and leave a mark requires multiple skills.

So if your toddler has made his first mark on the wall, then congratulations! He is developing and growing in terms of his cognitive development, gross motor skills and creative thinking.

Next time you’re staring in horror at a wall filled with hideous scribbles, try to focus on his ‘creation’ rather than the ‘destruction’.

      3. An exploration of his environment

Toddlers are naturally curious and want to know how things work. They are eager to learn everything they can about their environment.

If you think of it from your toddler’s perspective, walls are everywhere. Each room he wanders into has the same huge walls staring back at him.

It’s almost natural that your child wonders to himself “Hmmm…. I wonder what would happen if I drag this red crayon across the wall…”

      4. The vastness of the walls

The truth is, even if you give your child a paper to draw on, he still prefers coloring on the walls. Why?

To a toddler, there’s something irresistibly delicious about a vast, blank wall. It’s almost like the wall is calling out to him, begging to be drawn on.

The wall is stable and it doesn’t need to be held in place, unlike paper. In your toddler’s eyes, it’s a perfect canvas just waiting to be filled.

And so your child’s scribbles are not about him trying to provoke you. Rather, its about him simply not being able to resist the temptation.

      5. A method to get your attention

Having said that, if you’ve previously blown up at your toddler for drawing on the walls, then his persist coloring may have something to do with your reaction.

Your child has figured out that drawing on walls gets a big reaction from you. He doesn’t care that it’s not a pleasant reaction, he’s just interested in the attention (positive or negative).

So getting him to stop drawing on walls will require you to change the way you react.

      6. Inability to understand consequences

A toddler’s half formed brain has a difficult time fathoming the consequences of his actions. He’s too busy caught up in the fascination of creating his masterpiece.

The thought has not entered his mind that his scribbling will result in the walls getting wrecked, his parents having to scrub the walls or having to spend money in getting them fixed.

How do I stop my toddler from drawing on the wall?

Sure, drawing on walls is fun for your child and he’s learning a lot. But it can be extremely frustrating and stressful for you.

So how do you stop him from vandalizing your walls without smoldering the artist within him?

Here are some tips I’ve tried that actually work.

      Set up a chalkboard wall

Rather than banning your child from expressing his creativity through wall art, a great idea is to give him an alternative.

Set up a chalkboard wall in the house where he’s free to let out his artist skills.

You can do this by getting chalkboard paint, painting a portion or all of a wall in your child’s room, letting it dry and then handing him chalk to let out his creativity.

Another idea is to get a chalkboard sheet. These are a kind of wall decal which recreates your wall into a blackboard. You can cut it to your desired size or shape, peel off the sticker and apply to the walls.

This one is great for kids – its a self adhesive, erasable chalkboard sheet which you can cut into the size you want and stick. Don’t worry, it won’t damage the wall and can be easily removed from the wall without leaving behind any marks.

Now hand your toddler the colored chalks and let him draw to his heart’s content.

Make sure to let your child know that this is a special wall you have set up for him and its the ONLY wall in the world where he’s allowed to draw. You don’t want him thinking it’s okay to draw on the walls at his friend’s house.

Use your fridge as an easel

If you’re not comfortable with dedicating an entire wall for your child to draw on, this could be a great substitute.

Get some craft paper, cut it up to fit the fridge door and using strong magnets or some glue tack, stick it to the fridge. Your child can scribble away as you work in the kitchen.

Once the paper is filled with his masterpieces, replace the paper with a new one.

To make it more interesting for your little one, you could even get a magnetic chart for kids that sticks to the refrigerator. This one is simply brilliant and can be used in so many ways. It comes with 4 chalk markers that you can hand to your child and have him doodle away on the fridge as you work in the kitchen. As they get older (of if you already have older kids in the house) you can use it as a chore chart. It can even be used to jot down grocery lists, meal plans, meetings, deadlines, doctor appointments or write out cute notes for your family members.

Easy to Clean Magnetic Chore Chart for Kids

      Get washable art supplies

Every time your toddler draws on the walls, make it a point to explain to him why it’s not acceptable. Then redirect him to the places in the house where he is allowed to draw, scribble and paint.

It will take time for your child to learn to restrain his desire to wreak your walls. And so in the meantime it’s best to keep washable crayons and paints in the house. That way even if there is a little misstep, you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars trying to fix it up. For washable art supply, I ALWAYS get Crayola. Their quality is unmatched. Their washable crayons and washable paints have the most vibrant of colors that easily wipe away from surfaces.

      Participate in clean up

It’s important to make sure that when toddlers draw on walls you include them in the cleaning up process. Even if you’re doing most of the cleaning, give them simple tasks to do such as holding a wet wipe and cleaning the wall with it.

When you do this, your child soon learns that his actions have consequences. Whenever he messes up the wall he will have to clean it up too.

The clean up should be seen by your child as a natural consequence of his actions and not as a punishment.

      Modify your reaction

If you keep telling your child that drawing on walls is unacceptable and he keeps doing it, chances are you will snap.

You will resort to threats and punishments in the hope that it will deter him from doing it again. But that will cause your feisty little toddler to become even more adamant to keep persisting in the act. Rather than expressing your anger, a more helpful solution would be to show your disappointment.

How to Stop Your Child From Drawing on Walls & Furniture – Creative Parenting

      Nino

Did your toddler find a pen and draw on your walls, furniture, curtains, or maybe even your pet? Are you afraid they will destroy everything in sight? Here is my advice on how to turn your child’s new “destructive” behavior into art

ENCOURAGE YOUR KIDS’ CREATIVITY & SAVE YOUR HOUSE!

      1. If your baby or toddler drew on something – CONGRATULATIONS! Your child is curious and has discovered a new tool to play with. This is the PERFECT time to introduce organic art supplies and show them how and where to use them. Congratulate your child, too. Tell them you are proud of them for trying to make marks on a new surface.
      2. If your older child draws on things it’s usually to get attention or express a big emotion, so the best thing to do is to provide a safe environment where they can express creativity. Breath. Your child is not trying to destroy anything. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. They are learning how to create.
      3. Explain to your child (big or small) why it is not OK to draw where they did and show them how to take it off. If they drew with a pencil, give them an eraser and show them how to erase. If they drew with a marker, pen or paint, use things like a Magic Eraser, Goo Gone, lemon essential oil or bicarb and white vinegar mix (depending on the surface and materials used). For safety reasons, I wouldn’t let the child use those themselves; But make sure they are watching you. Also, clean up the unwanted marks right away otherwise it will attract more and more mark-making. Here is my proof:
      4. As tempting as it might be, do not hide your pens, markers, pencils, etc. Children will find them. And if you don’t teach them how and where to use them, they will use them anywhere and everywhere.
      5. So, first thing to do now is to set up a dedicated space in your house – a safe place just for making art. If you don’t know how to do that or what to get, read my Setting up and Art Studio for Kids post.
      6. Once they are all set, make art supplies like Washable Markers or Washable Paintand quality paper easily accessible. No Kraft paper! Your goal is to offer more interesting surfaces than your leather couch, beautifully varnished bed heads or bathroom tiles.
      7. Once you set up the art studio, let your child experiment as much as they want in this space. If they try to draw anywhere else, always redirect them to their art studio. Until they learn, avoid letting them use supplies outside of their art space. However, in their art studio, allow them to experiment with art materials any way they like.
      8. If they want to draw on furniture, let them draw on their art table/chairs/storage. This way, once again, they have their own furniture to draw/paint on so they will be less likely to ruin yours. Here is Adèle’s table top:
      9. If they like drawing on walls, let them use an easel.  Do not attach paper, chalkboard nor whiteboards to the wall. The idea is to discourage the child to use the wall – you wouldn’t want them to mistake your friend’s wallpaper for a paper to draw on or a dark coloured wall at a store for a chalkboard.
      10. If they want to try drawing on the floor, get a mat to protect the surface in their studio and put a big piece of paper for them to draw/paint on. But, avoid reading Olivia by Ian Falconer for some time or they might just want to try copying a Jackson Pollock. 😉
      11. Don’t have the time or patience to deal with cleaning-up? No problem. AquaDoodlemat is an amazing mess-free drawing toy. Just lay it out, fill the “marker” with water and let creativity flow (no pun intended :)). Hours of mess-free fun which is so light and compact that you can take on a picnic, camping, airplane or to the beach.
      12. For drawing on windows – Washable Window Crayons.
      13. And if your child’s favourite color is blue and they tell you every day that they will paint everything inside/outside the house blue (including your neighbour’s cat) – don’t be afraid of these “threats. ” Let them. 😉

What To Do When Children Loves Writing on Walls, How to Get a Toddler to Stop Drawing on Walls

Are you weary of rubbing down walls where your child has scribbled? Here are some ways to reduce the mess without curbing their creativity!

Children are naturally creative. It is our job to give them the freedom, materials and their creativity blossom to its full potential
      – Jean Van’t Hul

Is your child using the walls of your house as his artistic canvas and giving you sleepless nights? One of the biggest problems you could be facing as a parent of a young child is trying to teach them to stop scribbling on walls. Not only do the scribbles make the walls look shabby but are extremely difficult to clean as well. So, what can you do to prevent your child from indulging in this natural urge to express themselves? Here are a few ways for you to encourage your child to not scribble on walls, without curbing his enthusiasm.

      Early struggle

Despite being aware that your child scribbles on walls, it can be challenging when it happens and all your efforts to limit the habit fail. Darshi Modi, mother of two-year-old Vihaan is trying to get her toddler to stop colouring on things around the house, including furniture.

She says, “It is a constant struggle to get him to avoid colouring on the furniture, beds, sofas and walls. We have spoken to his Montessori teacher and her advice was to reinforce and repeat the phrase, “only on paper”. Despite adopting her advice, Darshi is having little success with this strategy.

She says, “My son repeats ‘only on paper’ after me, and still colour the kitchen cabinets. I think even the constant reminder is showing very slow results.” As a strategy to reduce his scribbles, Darshi has stopped giving him pens and switched to pencils and water-soluble pens. Another medium that Vihaan enjoys using is a whiteboard on an easel, on which he draws to his heart’s content. He then wipes his scribbles away with a cloth when he’s done.

      Expressing themselves

You might be wondering if this behaviour a cause for concern or not. Consultant Psychologist and Counsellor, Dr Shweta Sharma, Columbia Asia Hospital, Gurgaon reassures parents, “Scribbling is a sign of good development. Thoughtless and impulsive behaviour is natural for a young child. Scribbling on walls is absolutely normal behaviour. When children get random thoughts or imagination, they like to put it down on large empty surfaces. This is a healthy activity for child development and we psychologists include this in ART therapy.”

Darshi also found some success by following the advice of not removing the colours but instead allotting her son a time slot of 15 minutes to colour. Once the time was up, she tells Vihaan that his 15 minutes are up and that since the pens are tired, they want to sleep. A relieved Darshi says, “This is working for us as he happily bids goodbye to the pens and put them away.”

      Language is important

So, what do you do when you spot your child scribbling on the wall? Your first instinct is probably to scold them. Dr Shweta advises parents not to get angry or scold their child for this behaviour, as the child could perceive it in a negative way and show their disappointment by rebelling.

She recommends, “To curb this behaviour try giving the child large sheets of paper, or maybe hang it on the walls where the child can reach. As they grow up, help them understand that it is hard to wipe the ink off the walls. Telling them this continuously and sitting with them can help curb the habit.”

She also notes, “Keep an eye on what your child is drawing. If they are using black colours way too much or scribbling in a rigorous way or digging holes in sheets or walls, it might be a sign of anxiety.

Stay calm and be firm and clear in your choice of words. Keep the sentences short. For instance, use simple sentences like “Crayons are for paper,” or “Walls are not for drawing.” Also praising them when they use the designated space for drawing instead of the wall will encourage them to repeat the activity.

      Parents’ experiences

What experiences have parents had with their young children and what strategies have they used to minimise scribbling on walls? Let’s hear from a few parents!

      Give them enough material

Niveditha Kuttaiah says, “I think the opinion of children scribbling on walls varies with each parent. I would give my daughter a designated wall just to express herself. However, scribbling all over the house is being disrespectful of the space. In my case my daughter Hilah rarely scribbled on walls as we had given her enough drawing papers, boards and chalks to draw on the floor. We would lay out a large 5×6 size paper and let her doodle all over it. We still do it for fun.”

Involve them in painting their room

Ramya says, “We would teach our three-year-old daughter to paint by putting up sheets of plastic on the floors. We also encouraged her to use chalk and draw on the floor in the car park.” She found a way to mesh both activities together and turn it into a teaching lesson, “We got our daughter to choose the colour she would like for the walls of her room. This got her very excited in the whole process of painting her room and now she takes great pride in her new wall.”

Have exclusive books and pens to doodle

Batul Netterwala says, “My son is 19 months old and hasn’t really started scribbling on walls yet. However, he has newly discovered pens and he’s at the curious stage where he is trying to mimic everything we do. So, once he gets his hands on a pen he wants to write on paper. It can be any paper from a newspaper to envelopes, letters or documents.” To dissuade her son from trying to write on any sheet of paper, Batul has got him a dedicated book and pen for himself. We only allow him to use these two and not anything else.”

      Plan ahead

So, what can you do to try and save your walls from squiggles? Plan ahead with alternate mediums for your child to use and pick items that are easy to clean or erase. Make sure that all these items are firmly fastened and safe before you let your child use them. Some of the options you can try are listed below.

      1. Chalkboard paint walls

One of the most classy and easy options is to have a chalkboard wallpaper on one wall, which your child can frequently use. This way they have a designated space to let their creativity flow and can erase it to start on something new the next day. Make sure that you place it at a convenient height for your child to reach. You can give your child chalk pieces or chalk pens to use along with a duster. Get them into the habit of using the assigned space and cleaning it before they want to try something new.

      2. Whiteboard walls

Another fantastic and easily available option for toddlers are whiteboard walls or boards. You can place two or three in a room so that your child has three canvases on which he can let his imagination go wild. Being able to erase and reuse the same space repeatedly is a huge advantage with this.

      3. Glass boards

This is yet another surface you can utilise with your child. If you wish you can also keep it as a memory of their first work of art. Install it at a convenient height for your toddler, give them a few markers and see where their imagination takes them.

      4. Washable paints

Washable paints are a fabulous innovation for parents with messy toddlers. You can also paint your child’s room with washable paint so that in case the need arises, all you got to do is wipe off the scribbles or stains on the wall before your guests arrive.

So, do not stress over your child expressing their artistic talent but instead this weekend join them and do a fun drawing activity together on a nice huge sheet of paper or a board. Happy coloring!

When your little one is growing, their curiosity and creativity develop as well. And before you know it, these little geniuses are on their way to becoming budding Picassos! And well, the walls of your house are their canvas. But it’s definitely a nightmare for mommies!

‘No, you aren’t supposed to draw on the wall, that’s what papers are for’

‘Did you just use a permanent marker all over the living room’s wall? Again?’

Sounds familiar? Well that’s probably because you use these sentences quite often while talking to your growing artists. These creative geniuses have so many ideas that they find scribbling all over your living room wall the best way to express them. While for them it is creativity, for you it definitely is a constant struggle which no amount of warnings, sweet talking or scolding can help with.

It is observed that toddlers absolutely love the sounds of pounding crayons and gazing at their magical creations on a wall. They feel happy from the motion and surprising appearance of lines when they put the crayon and the wall in contact.Although these may be seen as creative responses, we mothers certainly worry about the damage it does to the walls.Who doesn’t want a pretty and neat home but without restricting the child’s creativity? Well, here are some tricks that you can adopt to deal with the situation!

Here are the tricks you can try!

      1. Create a Designated Wall

Well, it’s always better to define boundaries but it’s even better to create alternatives. One cannot possibly expect kids to change their habits overnight, but these habits can certainly be channelized better. So, a simple solution for this would be to have one designated wall in the house, preferably in or near their room,on which they have the freedom to draw, scribble and create anything.

But if you are still sceptical about this one, here’s a trick. Cover the wall with a large sheet of chart paper. Alternatively, you could also get this wall painted with chalkboard paint. So, whenever they scribble on the wall, it will be easier to clean it.

      2. Keep Washable Crayons Handy

Replace all crayons with washable ones. So whenever your little one draws their masterpiece you can be assured that it isn’t permanent and can be removed.Alternatively, make sure you have the talk where you tell them that walls aren’t the place they’re supposed to draw on, but a paper is. It’s important to keep instilling that message in their minds.

      3. Provide Other Outlets for Them to Express Their Creativity

Do not curb your child’s creativity, instead give him other outlets to express their talent! For example, if the weather is good, allow them to draw on the pavement in your veranda.Use bath paints and crayons to play with and scribble on bath tiles during bath time. Also, if it snows where you stay, a snowman is always the best idea!

      4. Express Disappointment, Not Anger

Finally, patience is the key when it comes to kids. If you have repeatedly told your little one to not draw or scribble on the walls and they continue doing so,chances are that you will get irritated and sooner or later lose your patience. Most parents resort to punishment and expressing anger, but that is not going to help at all.Children comprehend emotions quite well, and therefore expressing disappointment will be more nurturing than expressing anger. They also imitate behaviours, and anger will simply instil a sense of rebellious response. Also, chances are that when you are empathetic, your child will understand what is wrong and what is right. Understanding and not fear is what will help them not repeat a wrong act.

Scribbling is a very important identifier of your child’s development. It enhances hand-eye coordination, brings out creativity and also improves their motor skills. Toddlers and growing babies have an instinctive eagerness towards this and this indicates how they are moving towards the learning stage.Their brain and body develops and builds a readiness for more difficult tasks later in life. Therefore, it’s always the best idea to keep both your concerns and their development in mind. It’s a win-win!

How to save wallpaper if children draw on the wall

Mother of four children, bestselling author on parenting and well-known child psychologist Larisa Surkova shares her recommendations

Let’s imagine a picture. A young family lives in a beautiful (or even new) apartment. They have beautiful furniture and, probably, clean light walls. And now, a baby appears, he grows and wants to develop. Something with which to draw falls into his hands. At this point, I want to make a long tragic pause.

Alas, doors, wallpaper and furniture are the first to be hit. What to do? Is there any chance to save them or everything is useless – should you put up with it and save up for a new repair?

Why do children draw on walls?
Well, firstly, they develop their natural potential. All children are right-brained, that is, creativity is in their blood. And only as they grow older and how we load them with tasks for the development of intelligence, they become (like 85% of people on Earth) people with the leading left hemisphere.

Children have no limits and limits of what is permitted. And they will begin to form only after two to five years, again, under the pressure of society. Finally, children love contrasting colors, which means that most of the designs will be done in black and blue – paint or felt-tip pen – on your light-colored wallpaper or furniture.

      Teaselwood Design

Together, these terms lead to the following formula: drawing is in the child’s blood. It is simply impossible to do this on a standard sheet of standard paper until a certain age (due to the immaturity of the psyche).

What to do if your child ruins walls and furnishings?
Of course, this can be corrected. Start by creating a full-fledged “workspace” where you can draw comfortably.
If you want your child to draw at an adult table, use a highchair for feeding (as pictured), or buy a special children’s chair and table commensurate with the child’s height.

Sitting at a large table on a pile of books or in the arms of a mother, it is impossible to fully draw.

      Danielle Sykes

If paper, then roll is better
Initially, when working with paper and felt-tip pens (and we are talking about them or paints, since pencils are not contrasting, require more effort, and, as a result, only irritate child) give one and a half year old children large sheets of paper. Not A4, but at least Whatman paper. For example, rolls of paper are now very common (in particular, they are sold in IKEA stores).

There is no room for an easel and you decide to hang paper on the wall for your child? Remember: a clear boundary is very important. It is almost impossible to explain to a two-year-old kid: “Here you can on whatman paper, but you can’t a centimeter to the left on the wallpaper.” Therefore, either whatman paper should be in a bright frame on the wall. Or just don’t do it at all: there are a huge number of easels with a paper roll holder.

All rules apply equally to all rooms
It never happens that you can only paint on wallpaper in a nursery and not in a living room. The rule should be as follows: either you can draw on the walls everywhere or not anywhere. The popular decision to have separate “drawing” wallpapers in the nursery will not help: this solution is not for a baby, but for a child of conscious age.

By the way! The idea of drawing on the walls is often suggested to the child by “developmental activities”. If you go with a small child to those lessons where you can draw while sitting on the floor, or you are allowed to paint on the walls, expect that the child will do the same at home. After all, he is still not able to draw the line – home and classes.

      Valerie McCaskill Dickman

      Accept or change your attitude
Look at the walls and the children’s drawings on them. Evaluate objectively: maybe they are not so bad? And, perhaps, in fact, you have long dreamed of creative wall painting and did not know how to realize your plan.

      LEBEDEVA PROJECT

      Protect the wallpaper preventively
If all other solutions do not work in your interior and there is a need to protect the wallpaper from a child, use a water-based acrylic varnish. Traditionally, this composition is used for flock liquid wallpaper and other delicate surfaces from abrasion and moisture. In fact, with such a “refinement” you turn ordinary wallpaper into washable. If you choose a matte varnish, no one will even guess about the existence of the coating.

If walls are painted, make them paintable. This is absolutely correct (from the point of view of a psychologist) decision. In addition, it is long-term, because it is quite suitable for preparing homework for drafts. And, importantly, you don’t have to sit at the table, but you can draw in motion.

      Get your child interested
It is known that a child can draw on the walls out of boredom. I just didn’t know what to do! Suggest new options for working in albums, especially for children over three years old. For example, let him draw not with a brush, but with a stick. Or you can dip autumn leaves into the paint and see what happens.

      Make your life easier
Instead of buying traditional felt-tip pens, buy washable ones. These are the ones that are easy to wash off almost any surface, except for old-style paper wallpapers. Usually the packaging says that paints and felt-tip pens are easily washed from children’s clothes using traditional powders (without the need to use bleach).

Tip: Disappearing markers also work well. In addition to the traditional bright ones, the kit comes with one white felt-tip pen – paint over unwanted art with it, and it disappears, as if by magic.

Does a child draw on the walls or a talent? | Family

Children love to draw on walls and other non-drawable surfaces. But not every parent is ready for a sudden creative impulse of his child. One has only to imagine: a new renovation, light-colored walls in the Scandinavian style, minimalism and tranquility … And then in the middle of the wall there is some kind of frightening dinosaur or a giraffe with a bulging color! What to do?

Scolding a child is, of course, useless. But the question is: what if your son is the future Repin or Picasso? How to keep your property and at the same time not ruin children’s talent? Let’s figure it out.

Why do children draw on the walls

And really, why did the child decide to use the surrounding space as his canvas? Sometimes the answer lies on the surface: he does not have blank sketchbooks or his own corner where he could calmly engage in creativity.

However, there are several other reasons why children love to draw on the walls so much. Babies do not have any limits of what is permitted, since they are formed only in society by about 3-5 years. In other words, the child simply does not understand that it is not necessary to draw on new designer wallpapers.

An album sheet or even a drawing paper is too small for it (these are all the same boundaries), and this is logical. If a child wants to draw a huge spider, then a tiny leaf is not at all what is needed. Whether it’s a wall in a room, on which each life-size spider paw will be clearly visible!

Some mothers and fathers tell their child that painting on the walls is simply “bad”. But this word is not entirely appropriate here. What’s wrong with showing your creativity, wanting to express emotions or capturing interesting objects? Nothing. This is wonderful! Therefore, it is better not to use such a wording with a child – it will not impress the future artist.

What to do with a child’s talent

So to wean a child to draw on wallpaper or not to wean him? There is no single answer to this question. Many mothers and fathers prefer to give up, so that in a few years, when the child grows up, they can update the repair. Others take the matter seriously, coming up with different ways to switch the young painter to another activity.

So, what can you think of if you decide to develop a creative gift in your child and at the same time want to secure your property:

      1. Change your attitude to the situation . Nerve cells do not regenerate. Shouting, suggestion and distribution of punishments will not return you a clean wallpaper. Try to change your attitude to the situation: everyone is alive and well – this is the main thing. And now you have an interesting design decision in the most prominent place. You can proudly show children’s masterpiece to guests and receive laudatory reviews.

      2. Suggest other options for drawing . If it is important for you to switch the baby to other types of “canvases”, provide them to him. Show how diverse the art world is. Give him a large chalkboard or magnetic board, a drawing tablet, or a sand painting kit. Diverse and exciting!

      3. Diversify children’s leisure . If a child draws on the walls out of boredom, he just needs more options for spending time. Try to invite your child to do appliqués from improvised materials, assemble a designer, or even just look at colorful pictures in books. The more variety in a child’s life, the better.

      4. Buy laundry accessories . Washable felt-tip pens, washable pencils, water-soluble paint – you can find something else on the shelves of modern stationery stores. Many drawing tools can be easily cleaned with a simple damp cloth, even from masonry. If the baby is at the age stage “I draw where I want and how I want”, then such inventory will be a salvation.

      5. Designate a workplace for the child . Or maybe the kid draws on the walls, because he simply has nowhere else to go? Then fate itself tells the parents to determine the working space for the young artist. It can be a small creative corner with a table, a chair, a chalkboard, a lamp, a personal shelf with a large selection of paints, pencils, drawing papers of various sizes. So the child will not only be able to immerse himself in a developing creative atmosphere, but also understand: you can only draw in this place, this is a family rule.

Speaking of rules! Parents can agree with the child on a certain set of house laws. For example, you can draw on the walls in the nursery, but you can’t in the hall and in the kitchen.

      Cardinal solutions for young artists

Yes, not all moms and dads will have the strength and means to make repairs just so that the child can paint on the walls without a twinge of conscience. But, as practice shows, many future and already real mothers and fathers decide to take care of this issue seriously. Especially for them, a lot of interesting materials have been developed for decoration, for example, children’s rooms:

Marker walls . They are made from synthetic materials, which are not afraid of any art. You can draw on them with markers and felt-tip pens, after which everything is calmly removed with dry napkins and sponges. And you can also apply special magnetic paint to the marker wall, then you can place various children’s manuals, letters and other inventory in the form of magnets on it. Very comfortably!

Slate cover . Slate paint helps to create it; after drying, the wall becomes like a school chalkboard. The child will be able to draw on it with chalk even around the entire perimeter – you can finish the whole room from floor to ceiling or only part of the room. Modern manufacturers offer a large selection of shades: green, blue, cream, gray.

Coloring pages . This is a great way to keep your child entertained and develop their creativity. Roll coloring is an ordinary wallpaper with applied black and white images that a child can paint with any inventory – felt-tip pens, crayons, watercolors, pencils. In addition, most of these wallpapers are perfectly washable. There are simply very large coloring pages that do not have to be wallpaper. Another alternative is to buy your baby a roll or several rolls of cheap wallpaper so he can draw on the back.

Chalk wallpaper . These self-adhesive wallpapers are similar to a slate coating, they are distinguished mainly by their thickness: the wallpapers are thinner, and their range of colors is much wider. They are covered with a vinyl coating, allowing children to freely “wield” the crayons on the coating. Such a miracle of repair art is calculated for about 10,000 operations, so they will be an excellent design option for a children’s creative corner.

Drawing is one of the most important ways children learn about the world. Therefore, the task of parents is not to figure out how to shield the child from this activity, but to help the child direct his creative potential along the right path … Even if this path lies through the “wall” painting!

Children draw on the walls: solutions to the problem

Quite often, kids do a “pen test” not on paper, but on objects around them. Wallpaper is often the first to get hit: this is where children try to create their “masterpieces” using pencils, paints or felt-tip pens. Psychologists advise to act with cunning, using special techniques to wean a child from damaging the interior. But in the absence of results, you can go the other way – take into account the baby’s craving for drawing when decorating the house. It is also worth paying attention to the developmental activities that the child attends. Often they offer to draw on sheets attached to the wall, and the roots of the problem can grow from there.

There are several techniques that experts recommend for weaning your baby from wallpaper damage:

      1. Fighting boredom. Often a child draws on finishing materials, because he does not know what to do, he is constantly left to himself. Perhaps he will like the idea of \u200b\u200bpainting albums, new coloring pages. You can use unusual techniques, for example, drawing with finger paints, a stick, combining with appliqué.
      2. Joint wallpaper selection. Damaged canvases have to be replaced. It is worth choosing a new finish (wallpaper, paint) together so that the child appreciates it more. Perhaps he does not want to spoil what he picked up himself.
      3. Alternative. In order not to worry about the beauty of the interior, you can offer your child more interesting options for drawing. Surely the kid will like the easel, magnetic board, light tablet. A modern way of expressing creativity is drawing on a computer, laptop, tablet using special applications.
      4. Self cleaning. It is necessary to clarify that you will have to clean up your “arts” yourself. After a couple of minutes of rubbing the walls, the child, as a rule, loses the desire to repeat such actions.

There is another way to deal with painting on the finish, however, it affects parents more. You can reconsider your attitude to the problem and wait until the child grows up. Then it will be possible to make cosmetic repairs by updating the paintings and choosing the appropriate design, taking into account the opinions of each family member.

      Special wall coverings

It happens that decent funds were spent on a new finish, but there is no time and energy to redo the repairs. In the presence of a growing baby, it is worth protecting the walls proactively, working proactively. For example, you can use a water-based acrylic lacquer, which is usually coated with liquid wallpaper and some other materials.

After varnishing, the wallpaper becomes washable. The resistance of the coating to pollution is greatly enhanced. If you do not want to give the surface shine, you can choose a matte varnish. In addition, there are other coatings on sale that will help keep the new wallpaper safe and sound.

      Marker wall

Marker varnishes and paints are made on the basis of synthetic polymers (usually polyurethane). After drying, the material leaves a real marker coating on the wall – a board, which can be of any shape and size. On the “board” you can draw with erasable markers, after which traces can be easily removed with a dry rag or sponge. There are marker paints in different colors in stores, so you can choose them for every interior.

Marker coatings are suitable for all substrates – metal, stone, wood, plastic, plasterboard, etc. It is only important to pretreat the substrate with a special latex primer and then paint. Already 24 hours after application, the baby will be able to draw on the walls without any consequences for the attractiveness of the coating. The marker board can be washed with mild, non-abrasive products.

An even more interesting option for decorating the walls is the additional application of magnetic paint. In this case, the coating will become marker-magnetic, and it will be possible to play with it. Also on sale there is a marker film on an adhesive basis. You can stick it on any dense, smooth surface and immediately start drawing with special markers.

      Slate

This type of surface is created by applying a special slate paint. This is the finishing coat that gives the walls a resemblance to a school chalkboard. You can draw on it with simple chalk, colored crayons. In addition, furniture and even the floor are covered with slate paint (usually in the form of small areas).

Slate paint has a number of advantages over conventional slate boards. It is not limited to small sizes, but occupies the entire wall, or even several walls. No need to think about where to put the product, and the price per square meter of coverage will be low. The child will be happy to draw, fantasize, develop his creative abilities, and all this without harm to the repair. The interior with slate finish is eye-catching, original and very stylish.

Some chalkboards are only available in black. Coatings of other brands include green, brown, gray, blue shades. The stores also sell transparent (tinted) coatings for walls and floors. All materials can be used for interior work, they are completely safe for children. Only with allergies and asthma, one must remember that chalk dust can provoke an attack in a baby!

      back to contents ↑

      Drawing board

It is far from always possible for parents to completely change the interior by introducing marker or slate coatings into it. If there is no way to make repairs, you can adopt an easier method. You need to buy a large drawing board and fix it on the wall where the child draws most often. Here the kid will be able to exercise in creativity, making a painting with special felt-tip pens. Soon he will cease to be interested in wallpaper, because no one will scold him for drawings on the board. You can buy such a board in a large children’s goods store or order it online along with felt-tip pens.

      back to contents ↑

      Drawing wallpapers

Some roll materials enable the full development of the child without compromising the parents’ wallet. For example, wallpaper for drawing can be pasted in the children’s room when the baby begins to show interest in this art form. The most popular painting canvases are:

      1. Chalk wallpaper. Reminiscent of slate coatings, but thinner, covered with vinyl coating on top. They have a width of 107 cm, a length of 10-50 m. They draw on chalk canvases with crayons. Usually they have an adhesive base and are fixed on the walls like a self-adhesive film. The erasing cycle for such wallpapers is designed for 10,000 operations.
      2. Wallpaper for markers. You can draw on this material with special dry felt-tip pens. It is also made on the basis of vinyl, sticks like a film and wipes with a dry or wet cloth. Such wallpapers are considered more convenient to use, because chalk dust does not pour from them.
      3. Roll coloring. Usually, part of the nursery is pasted over with such material, although you can even decorate the whole room with it. On its front side there is a black and white drawing, which is painted over with paints, felt-tip pens, pencils. With some wallpapers, the pattern is easily washed off with a damp cloth.

      Whatman paper

The cheapest and fastest way to arrange a place for drawing is to fix a sheet of whatman paper on the wall. Large format paper or cardboard is fixed with adhesive tape or buttons. After the baby paints the sheet, it can be easily replaced with a new one.

The free space of the drawing paper can be used in many ways – to paint over the contours according to the sketch of adults, to make handprints, to draw with finger paints, to show fantasy in a different form.

Drawing for children is the favorite and most attractive form of creativity. Do not forbid the baby to develop their thoughts and skills. It is better to compromise by protecting the wallpaper and giving the child freedom of action.

If a child draws on the walls

Drawing on the wall gives the child new sensations and impressions, leads to the manifestation of curiosity – a sign of a lively mind.

What to do if you find the works of a young artist on the walls, furniture and even on household appliances? Many parents get angry and annoyed with their children, punishing them for it. Are they right? Let’s figure it out.

First of all, you need to understand why a child draws not in a sketchbook, but in his mother’s book, his father’s papers, in his older brother’s notebook and on the walls in his room.

It turns out that leaving a mark is very important for a small child. Your mark! And he discovers that he can do it with a pencil, pen or felt-tip pen. The trace left behind means: “I am. And I’m glad about it.”

If a child draws on the walls

A 2-3 year old child does not yet know how to draw, he does not even immediately understand that the sheet has edges. His movements are still poorly coordinated – he draws with a pencil on paper and inadvertently goes beyond the boundaries of the sheet. Then he discovers that the trace of the pencil remained on the table. This is of interest. He immediately begins to draw on the table.

At this age, the child does not strive to accurately depict a house, the sun, a flower or a car. He draws a “doodle-doodle” and calls her mom or dad, car or house. The accuracy of his own drawing is not important to him, he is fascinated by the creative process, a flight of fancy, the study of the properties of objects (in this case, a pencil, pen, felt-tip pens, paints). For a child, it is important that he did something, produced himself. For example, I drew a line in my father’s papers or my mother’s book with a pencil.

In the mind of a kid, it is very interesting to draw on the walls, because the wall differs in its properties from the album sheet, where adults usually ask him to draw. Drawing on the wall gives the child new sensations and impressions, leads to the manifestation of curiosity – a sign of a lively mind. Satisfied curiosity develops into curiosity – the love of knowledge, the desire for knowledge, that is, it passes to a more complex step in the development of cognitive activity.

Should a child be punished for drawing on walls?

      1. So why punish a young artist? For the signs of the mind, the creative process, the study of the world around him, or for the fact that he is eager to leave his mark on his beloved mother or father? It turns out that there is nothing to punish! It’s just that the child needs to be shown that this creative process has another side. This is when mom and dad get upset when they see the painted walls in their baby’s room, and they have to clean them with soap and water. Here’s what you need to pay attention to the child. Tell him that it is not customary to paint houses on the walls, that it is unpleasant for you to see the painted walls, and you don’t want to waste time later cleaning them. Better instead, you play with your baby or read a book to him.

And since you had to scrub the walls, give the young artist the tools to work with, let him work with you. Only in this way will he be able to understand why you do not want to do this regularly. At the same time, he explores the properties of the wall and when it is laundered.

      2. In some cases, children draw on walls and furniture in defiance of their parents when they do not allow them to draw or restrict their access to pencils and a sketchbook.

      3. A child can draw on the wall if inspiration suddenly floods over him, and he simply cannot resist the desire to immediately begin the creative process. Therefore, dear parents, if you want your baby to draw in a sketchbook while sitting at your desk, give him the opportunity to draw when he wants. Give him a permanent place for drawing, in which there are always pencils and blank sheets of paper in the public domain. Then, at any moment, as soon as inspiration floods over the baby, he will be able to realize it in a suitable place for this.

      4. Teach your child to follow the rules, in this case, to draw only in a specially designated place. Tell them that you can draw on paper, but not on the table and walls. Engage your child with interesting creative activities in his drawing corner, then it would never occur to him to draw on the wall.

      5. Don’t get annoyed with your little one if you find pencil marks on the table where he drew. The kid might have done it by accident. Teach him to be clean and tidy. If he draws with paints, put on him a special apron. Explain that this will keep the clothes clean. After drawing, tell them that they need to wash their hands and put the place for drawing in order: put the drawings in a drawer, paints in place, pencils in a box, and wipe the table clean. Let the baby not only see how you put things in order, but also take part in this.

      6. Gradually he will learn all the necessary rules and learn to follow them. But this won’t happen overnight, so be patient and know that your little one will still paint on walls and furniture from time to time, despite your warnings. Continue to explain and clean up the room with your baby. And to satisfy his desire in the diversity of the creative process and the study of the world – buy him an easel. at kids.tso.com. Let him draw standing up, if he likes it, and on large sheets of paper.

      7. Give the young artist a special corner for drawing, in which a large sheet of drawing paper will hang on the wall. Say that you can draw here, because you protected the wall with a large sheet and you won’t have to wash it after.

      8. As a prevention of drawing on the walls, read the story “Serezha draws” to the child from book 1 “Once upon a time Seryozha”. Author: Stazi Oksana.

To those parents who get annoyed with their child because of his art on the walls and furniture, I want to say the following: rejoice that your child is healthy, energetic and curious! Rejoice that he has become interested in drawing and help him master this process – provide all the opportunities for this both at home and outside. Try to keep your child’s interest in drawing even at an older age.

A child draws on the walls: talent or a bully?

Children love to draw on walls and other indescribable surfaces. But not every parent is ready for the sudden creative impulse of their child. Just imagine: a new euro renovation, bright Scandinavian-style walls, minimalism and peace … And in the middle of the wall is some kind of frightening dinosaur or ugly giraffe! What to do?

Scolding a child, of course, is useless. But I have a question: what if your son is the future Repin or Picasso? How to keep your property and at the same time not destroy children’s talent? Let’s figure it out.

      1. Why children paint on walls
      2. What to do with children’s talent
      3. Fundamental solutions for young artists

      Why children paint on walls

In fact, why did the child decide to use the environment as a canvas? Sometimes the answer is simple: there are no blank sketchbooks and no corner of his own where he could devote himself to creativity in peace.

However, there are several other reasons why kids love to paint on walls so much. Babies have no boundaries, as they only develop into society at the age of 3-5. In other words, the child simply does not understand that it is not necessary to draw on new designer wallpapers.

The side of the album or even the wattman is too small for it (after all, they are all the same boundaries), and this is logical. If a child wants to draw a huge spider, then a tiny piece of paper is not the best solution. It’s nice to have a wall in the room where you can clearly see every life-sized spider leg!

Some moms and dads tell their kids that painting on walls is just “wrong.” But this word is not quite right. What’s wrong with being creative, being willing to express emotions, or capturing interesting subjects? A thread. Great thing! Therefore, it is better not to use such a phrase in front of a child – it will not impress the future artist.

What to do with children’s talent

So, should the child be kept away from painting on the wallpaper, or not put aside? There is no definite answer to this question. Many moms and dads choose to quit smoking only to make repairs a few years later when the child grows up. Others take it seriously, inventing different ways to get the young artist into another occupation.

So, what can happen if we decide to develop a creative gift in a child and want to secure our property:

      1. change of attitude to the situation. Nerve cells do not regenerate. Shouting, suggestion and punishment will not return your wallpaper to cleanliness. Try to change your attitude to the situation: everyone is alive and well – that’s all. And now you, too, have an interesting design solution in plain sight. You can proudly show your guests your child’s work and get positive feedback.

      2. Suggest other painting options. If it is important for you to interest your child in other types of “canvas”, provide them. Show him how diverse the world of art is. Give him or her a large chalkboard, magnetic board, drawing board, or sand painting kit. Variety and fun!

      3. Offer your child plenty of activities. If your child draws on the walls out of boredom, he just needs more ways to pass the time. Try to invite your child to make an application from improvised materials, assemble a designer, or even just look at colorful pictures in books. The more variety in a child’s life, the better.

      4. Buy washable materials. Washable felt-tip pens, washable pencils, water-soluble paints – you can find much more on the shelves of modern stationery stores. Many art supplies can be easily cleaned with a normal damp cloth, even off the wall. If your child is in the “I write where and how I want” stage, these tools will help him.

      5. Set aside a place for your child to work. Or maybe your child draws on the walls, because there is simply nowhere to do it? Then fate itself suggests that the parents will provide the young artist with a place to work. It can be a small creative corner with a table, a chair, a blackboard, a lamp, a personal shelf with a large selection of paints, pencils and posters of different sizes. In this way, your child will not only be able to immerse himself in a stimulating and creative atmosphere, but will also understand that in this place you can only draw – this is a family rule.

Speaking of rules! Parents can agree with their child on a set of house rules. For example, in kindergarten you can draw on the walls, but you can’t in the hall and in the kitchen.

      Cardinal solutions for young artists

Yes, not all moms and dads have the strength and money to make repairs, only a child can paint walls without a twinge of conscience. However, as practice shows, many future and current mothers and fathers decide to take this issue seriously. Especially for them, many interesting materials were created to decorate, for example, children’s rooms:

Walls with markers. They are made of synthetic materials and are not afraid of any works of art. You can draw on them with felt-tip pens and felt-tip pens, and then everything is easily removed with dry napkins and sponges. You can also apply special magnetic paint to the marker wall, and then put on it various children’s devices, letters and other equipment in the form of magnets. Very useful!

Slate cover. It is created with slate paint, and after drying, the wall becomes like a school blackboard. The child can paint with chalk around the perimeter – you can paint the entire room from floor to ceiling or just part of it. Modern manufacturers offer a wide selection of colors: green, blue, cream, gray.

Smooth colors. This is a great way to keep your child busy and develop their creativity. Roll-up painting is an ordinary wallpaper with black and white drawings that a child can paint on any technique – felt-tip pens, crayons, watercolors, pencils. Most of these wallpapers can also be washed. There are also very large coloring pages that do not require pasting. Another option is to buy your child a roll or several rolls of cheap wallpaper so they can paint on their backs.

Chalk board wallpaper. These self-adhesive wallpapers are similar to slate wallpapers mainly in their thickness: they are thinner and have a wider range of colors. They are covered with a vinyl overlay, which allows children to freely “wield” crayons. Such a miracle of repair art is designed for about 10,000 operations, so it will be an excellent option for arranging a children’s creative corner.

Drawing is one of the most important ways children learn about the world. So the task of parents is not to figure out how to isolate their child from this activity, but to help him direct his creative abilities in the right direction … Even if it’s painting “on the wall”!

You can listen to a short version of the article. If it’s more convenient for you, turn on the podcast.

Kids often draw on the wallpaper. And there is nothing wrong with this: such experiments speak of their craving for creativity. But if you’re worried about a new renovation, there are several ways to prevent artistic impulses or deal with their consequences as quickly and simply as possible.

How to prevent drawing on the walls

There are several ways – we will talk about each in order.

Keep crayons, pens, markers away from children

Art supplies should be kept out of reach of children. For example, on the top shelves or in closed cabinets to which he does not have access. When the kid wants to draw, he can do it only under the strict supervision of an adult.

And remember, this rule applies not only to him, but also to your office: do not leave ballpoint pens or pencils in visible places, with which you mark something in a book. Always return them to the organizer.

      Buy Water Based Markers

Markers are available in water and alcohol based. And if the traces of the first can be washed off with soapy water, then with the second everything is much more difficult. Therefore, when buying them, pay attention to the composition.

Create your own workspace for your child

Perhaps the drawings on the walls are the result of the fact that the kid simply has nowhere to be creative. Allocate a separate corner for him, where there will be all the necessary things: a table, a chair, paper, cardboard, crayons, felt-tip pens, pencils, plasticine, and more.

Gently explain to the child that you can draw only here and only on paper. Compare this art zone with your own office: “Look, now you have your own office, just like an adult! Do you know that adults only draw at the table and do not write anything on the walls?

      Buy a drawing board

If your child wants to be creative on the walls, you can offer him another option – to draw on a marker or chalk board. In addition, it will not be superfluous in the future: when the child grows up, he will be able to write down important reminders on it or solve some problems.

By the way, some mothers use ordinary drawing paper instead of a board – they attach them to the wall with adhesive tape and offer the kids to draw without going beyond the borders of the canvas. You can also buy a roll of white wallpaper, fix it to the ceiling and gradually unwind it when there is no empty space left on the bottom.

Set aside a separate wall for your child to draw on

If your child’s creative ego is so strong that he can’t be content with a small piece of paper, go ahead and set aside an entire wall for drawing.

An example of an accent wall. Photo: Pxhere.

Many people wallpaper in a different color or hire an artist to paint a floor-to-ceiling landscape. So why not highlight a white accent wall for a young artist?

      Buy wall coloring

While some kids want to express themselves violently with a brush, others just need coloring books. For the latter, you can purchase special self-adhesive coloring posters that are easily attached to the walls.

As soon as the child completes one of these pictures, remove it and replace it with a new one. It will be interesting for small children to paint castles and spaceships, and for those who are older, you can offer, for example, an image of a world map.

Choose a wallpaper that is easy to clean

If you are afraid that your child will still disobey and use the wallpaper as a canvas, make sure that it is easy to wash (or replace) in advance. Consider the following options:

      • Liquid wallpaper. They are easy to restore: you need to remove part of the surface with children’s scribbles, and then apply a new mixture to this place, which, when dried, will not leave seams.
      • Paintable wallpaper is a generic name for a variety of wallpapers that can withstand multiple stains. It is better to look at non-woven, vinyl or fiberglass options. The first and second can be dyed 5-7 times, and the third – up to 20!
      • Marker and chalk wallpaper is the most moisture resistant. You can remove drawings from them with a regular rag. Some manufacturers claim that such coatings can withstand up to 10,000 abrasion cycles. At the same time, they can be glued to any surface – wood, tile, concrete.

How to deal with the consequences

If you didn’t manage to secure the walls in advance, don’t despair – there are several ways to fix it.

Cover stain with stickers or posters

The easiest option is to purchase paintings or posters that can be used to cover your child’s drawings.

Wall decal example. Photo: Elisa Sassi / Flickr.

If he only got to the bottom of the wallpaper, you can choose special wall stickers – for example, in the form of trees or animals, which will look organic, “standing” on the floor.

      Try erasing drawings

Methods may vary depending on the wall covering and drawing tools. But here are some universal tips that can help:

      1. Small stains can be removed with the hard side of the eraser. It will cope with traces of a pencil, pen, some felt-tip pens.
      2. Ammonia is also great for removing streaks from a ballpoint pen or spirit pen. To do this, dilute 1 tbsp. l. substances in a glass of water and wipe the wall.
      3. If the wallpaper is light, chlorine bleach will help. It is necessary to carefully apply the substance to the drawing and wait for it to discolor. With paper wallpaper, you should be careful: a caustic composition can be fatal for them.
      4. If you have citric acid at your disposal, take 10 g of this substance, mix it with a glass of water, and then blot the ink strips with this liquid. An ordinary lemon is also suitable – just squeeze the juice out of it, and then proceed by analogy with the first option. In both cases, gently spread the solution over the stain until it is discolored.
      5. For vinyl wallpapers, temperature can be effective. Try putting a clean sheet of paper on the drawing and ironing it with a hot iron (without steam). Also, in this case, ordinary soap solution can also cope with traces.
      6. A hard-boiled chicken egg will help get rid of ballpoint pen marks. Cut it in half, remove the yolk and attach the cut to the pattern for 1-2 minutes. But remember that this method can only harm paper wallpaper!
      7. Apply 3 g of potassium permanganate mixed with 1 tablespoon of vinegar to a clean tissue and apply to the crime scene. After such contact, the drawing will leave the wall, leaving behind a dirty mark. You can get rid of it with peroxide. If the child used a water-based felt-tip pen, then potassium permanganate and vinegar can be postponed. Peroxide alone will be enough: apply it for half an hour, and then wipe the surface with a clean cloth.

Tape or paint over the drawing

If the art cannot be reduced, a quick cosmetic repair can be done. Perhaps you have extra rolls of wallpaper or cans of leftover paint that you used for finishing – this is the perfect time to put them to work. If all this is not there, then you can re-glue one wall – let it be accent!

      Finish the painting

Artist Ruth Osterman maintains a YouTube channel where she shares “remakes” of her daughter’s drawings. Of course, she does not work with images on the walls, but after watching a few of her videos, you can be inspired for such a “collaboration”!

“Insert” the picture into the frame

Why not an interesting solution? For example, if your child has depicted a house on the wall, you can not rub it off, but, on the contrary, save it as a valuable object of art: install a glass frame around the picture and make a signature indicating the year and name of the artist.

      Do nothing

So, for example, blogger and journalist Sarah Cottrell did. In an article for Scary Mommy, she shared I Let My Kids Draw On The Wall.

10 Things Today’s Kids Do (That Their Parents Didn’t)

Photo by Kate Daigneault / Stocksy United

Some things about growing up will never change. Teething, potty-training, bed-jumping: These have long been rites of passage for any big kid in the making.

Yet there are things that set today’s young’uns apart: From yoga classes to playing with apps, the daily life of young children today reflects the current times.

Here are 10 things today’s children do that would have baffled their grandparents (and even their moms and dads):

      1. Downward-facing dog.

It’s becoming more and more evident that in today’s modern world, kids are stressed out right along with adults—and that’s led to the usage of more and more relaxation practices. In 2012, a study showed that 1.9 million American children are doing mind-body practices like yoga to ease stress—and the numbers are likely growing every day, with the increase of yoga in schools and mama-daughter yoga celebrities on Instagram.

      2. Have the answer to anything, instantly.

“Why is the sky blue? Why do dogs pant? Why are sunflowers so tall?” Once upon a time, kids would have to ask a parent, teacher, or librarian to find the answer to a perplexing question. These days, more and more kids know how to Google their questions—or even ask Siri! To aid the search for knowledge, kid-friendly search engines like Kiddle are popping up to make instant information even easier for young minds to access.

      3. Watch movies without needing to leave the house.

Remember renting videos from actual brick-and-mortar stores? Today’s kids certainly don’t. According to Nielsen, 40 percent of American households now subscribe to on-demand streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon.

Photo by BonninStudio / Stocksy United

      4. Play games on a personal touch screen.

Now, according to a study published in the journal Pediatrics in 2015, nearly 97 percent of children have used mobile devices to keep themselves entertained—and most started using them before their first birthday. Whoa.

      5. Spend less time outdoors.

While, yes, all of the latest technology mentioned previously opens new worlds up to kids, they are now spending less time outside playing. But playing outside has huge benefits for kids: They’re less likely to be overweight, aggressive, or depressed, and are more likely to play creatively and have better concentration and attention.

      6. Have access to healthier school lunches.

It’s true, obesity rates and high sodium intake are still rising—but we are becoming more aware of how problematic this is. As a result, many schools are now changing their menus to keep the next generation as healthy as possible. According to the National Institutes of Health, school lunches are getting healthier and healthier, with more fruits and vegetables.

      7. Have Pinterest-worthy birthday parties.

Once upon a time, Pin the Tail on the Donkey was a major party starter at kid parties. No more. Thanks to Pinterest and its endless repository of ridiculously cute party ideas, parents can throw the coolest DIY birthday parties. Granted, not all of us are motivated to get SO crafty. But that’s what Pump it Up and other tricked-out kid-friendly play spaces are for (which also didn’t exist when today’s parents were kids).

      8. See all of their baby and toddler pictures in one place: Facebook.

Good-bye, baby books. Hello, scrolling. Thanks to social media networks, our children’s lives are documented in perpetuity in the digital realm. According to Nominet, the average parent will post almost 1,000 photos of his or her child online before she turns 5!

      9. Learn to ride bikes without training wheels.

The rise of pedal-less balance bikes has nearly eliminated trikes and training wheels in the early rider set. Invented in Germany in the late 1990s, balance bikes help kids who are toddler age (or younger!) learn important riding skills like weight distribution and overcoming the fear of two wheels.

      10. Have super-engaged super-moms.

According to Scarborough Research, some 14 percent of American moms use Internet blogs to share their experiences, recipes, and playtime ideas. Today’s kids are more likely to have a parent who can whip up a batch of DIY play dough, rattle off six ideas for a healthy mid-week dinner, or have five ideas to stave off kid boredom. (Boredom, we should note, is also a rite of passage.)

Choose some of your kids’ favourite tunes and turn up the volume. Ask them to dance until the music stops. When it does, they have to freeze in whatever position they find themselves in – even if they have one leg up. To make the game more challenging, ask the kids to freeze in specific poses: animals, shapes, letters or even yoga postures. Toddlers in particular love this game.

      27. Do a puzzle

Exercise those creative, cognitive and problem-solving muscles with a good puzzle. You can use a store-bought variety or have the kids make their own. Have your children draw a picture on a sturdy piece of cardboard or Bristol board. Then use a pencil to outline puzzle pieces directly on their drawing. Cut out the pieces with a good pair of scissors, mix them up and get solving. Indoor games and craft in one fun activity!

      28. Improvise some paper-bag skits

This indoor game is ideal for larger families. Divide the kids (and adults) up into groups. Give each group a bag filled with props, such as a spoon, toy jewelry, a sock, ball or ribbon. Then give them 15 minutes to construct a skit around the props. This game is so much fun that it doesn’t have to be competitive. If the kids want, though, they can vote on a winning skit.

      29. Make a DIY balance beam

If you have masking tape on hand, why not make your own balance beam? We all know how much kids love walking in straight lines every chance they get. Put on some music, and one at a time the kids can take their turn walking one-foot-over-the-other across the straight line of tape. Make the game more challenging by having the kids walk backwards or balance with one foot on the line.

      30. Do some indoor bowling

A great way to reuse water bottles (or you can purchase an indoor bowling set). Line six-10 water bottles up at the end of your hall or living room. Place a line of duct tape at the starting line. Grab a medium-sized indoor ball and start bowling! If you want, keep score and give out trophies at the end. (Note: if you need to stabilize the water bottles or make the game more difficult, simply fill them up with some water. Don’t forget to screw the tops on tightly!) Learn how to make a classic set of pins here, or find instructions for some cute cactus-themed bowling pins here.

      31. Play

      Hot Potato

This game will have everyone giggling. Ask the kids to sit on the floor in a circle. Turn on some tunes and have them pass the potato (a bean bag or soft ball) around the circle as fast as they can. When the music stops, the player holding the potato leaves the circle. Keep going until only one player is left and wins the game.

      32. Play the listening game

This game is sure to both educate and delight little ones. Take out several miscellaneous items. Have the children look at all the items, and then take them away. Next, ask one child to hide his or her eyes and listen as you pick up an item and make sounds with it. Ask the child to guess which item made the sound. Examples of items might be a comb (run your fingers along it), a glass (gently tap it), cymbals, shakers, sandpaper, blocks rubbed together, a pot and spoon. Be creative and have fun!

      33. Play Simon Says

This traditional favourite will never get old. To start, choose one player (probably a parent for the first round) to be Simon. The rest of the players will gather in a circle or line in front of Simon as he calls out actions starting with the phrase “Simon says”: “Simon says…touch your toes. ” The players then have to copy Simon’s action, touching their toes. If Simon calls out an action without uttering the phrase “Simon says,” the kids must not do the action. If a child touches his toes when Simon didn’t say…, he or she is out of the game. There are lots of great ways Simon can trick players into doing actions when Simon didn’t say: Simon can perform an action without uttering a command, for example, or he can perform an action that doesn’t correspond with the command. Fun! The last player left in the game wins and becomes the next Simon.

      34. Set up a game of i

      ndoor basketball

You can’t be too little for this version of basketball. All you need is a bucket and a rolled up sock (or a small, light ball). Each player takes a turn at throwing the sock-ball into the bucket. When a player scores a bucket, he or she takes a step back and throws again until missing. The player who shoots the ball in the bucket from the farthest distance wins.

      35.

      Learn some classic hand-clapping games

Boards games are great for bonding time as a family (even when it gets competitive). Check out which boards games are perfect for what age group here.

      79.

      Sound safari

Show your school-age kid how to use the digital recorder on your phone, then ask them to go around the house or yard recording 10 different sounds. Emphasize that they should take their time and try to stump you. (Variation: very close-up shots with the camera.) Then get them to return to the sound booth, aka the couch, and you try to figure out what the sounds are. Pro tip: To keep your phone out of the toilet, ban “flushing” sounds.

      80. Play a game of

      What’s on my butt?

Get comfy on the couch, belly down. Your kids take turns finding things around the house and putting them on your behind. You ask, “What’s on my butt?” (feel free to add funny voices here) and then try to guess. Hil-ar-i-ous.

      81.

      Watch clouds

No, there are no clouds on the living room ceiling, but this is an imagination game. Lie down with your kiddo and whisper, “Wow, look at the beautiful clouds.”  You can take turns pointing out what you “see” and pretty soon, creative kids will be spotting elephants and waterslides.

      82.

      Stargaze indoors

Get a kitchen colander or two, a decent flashlight and some of your household’s thousands of little toys. Dinosaurs and horses are good. Lie down in a dark room and shine the flashlight through the colander onto the ceiling. Instant starry night! You can also shine the flashlight behind the toys to project shadows onto the ceiling and walls.

      83. Play

      Don’t wake the giant

Since you’ve got those little plastic toys out…lie down and ask your kids to arrange the toys on your back or belly. Urge them to use their imaginations to set up scenes like a village, the African savannah or a parking lot. But wait—they’ve actually set up everything on a sleeping giant! Stretch, scratch, shake, or maybe even stand up.

      84. Just r

      oll around on the floor

Little-known fact: rolling around on the floor is a great way for your preschooler or kindergartener to fine-tune all kinds of developmental skills related to balance, coordination and strength. How awesome that you get to lie on the couch to get the best view of their game. Ask if they can roll straight like a pencil (little kids tend to move their top half first then their legs) or roll in both directions. Ask them to put their arms above their heads and hold on to a stuffed toy while they roll (this requires more strength and coordination). More than one kid? Get them to form a “conveyor belt” with coordinated rolling to move a toy along from one kid to another.

      85. Make a r

      ace track

Lie on the floor with one knee up and maybe an arm outstretched. Get your kid to set up their train track or car track all around you. You’re the landscape!

      86.

      Operation time

Introduce the kids to the retro game, with you as the patient. Get the kitchen tongs and some small objects, which you arrange on your belly or legs. Hand your toddler or preschooler the tongs and ask them to carefully pick up each item. Older kids can use tweezers. Add sound effects, of course. (Bonus: using tongs and tweezers is a good way to develop small muscles in their hands. It’s educational!)

      87.

      Tattoo artist

Explain that tattoo artists work very slowly and carefully. Then break out the washable, non-toxic markers (some pencil crayons work when dipped in water too) and get yourself a temporary tat.

10 things that make children happy

      Home /
ARTICLES / Your child / Parenting / 10 things that make children happy

“Perhaps the best thing that can happen to us is a happy childhood.” Agatha Christie.

Childhood is the most unusual, amazing and incredible time in our lives. Time of discoveries, games, miracles and constant admiration for the world that the child learns every day and every hour. But for parents, this period can be a time of anxiety in an effort to ensure the health and happiness of the child.

Of course, there are circumstances in our lives that can overshadow our childhood years, but for those who truly love children, the happiness and well-being of their own children always comes first. In this article, we will describe a scientific approach to the happiness of children. Here are 10 scientifically proven tips to help make your child’s childhood even healthier and happier. So…

      1. Give them more time to play.

A child’s main concern, or at least it should be, is to play. Yes, sooner or later in the life of any kid there will be studies, homework and some additional classes, but until this happens, while they are still very young – let them play plenty, you should not specifically limit them.

“Children learn the most important life lessons from other children, not from adults … They either cannot learn a lot from adults, or are much less likely to do so,” says Peter Gray, professor of child psychology at Boston College. So more often let the kids go outside and play with other children.

      2. Do not fight or make a scene in front of children.

In early childhood, the brain of children develops incredibly quickly and accumulates information. And when they see “adult” issues and hear them discussed in a raised voice, it can negatively affect their fragile psychological state, making them feel anxious and insecure.

Children should not hear adults quarrel and swear, so try not to do this in their presence.

      3. Do not compare them with others.

One of the main aspirations of modern society is to be successful, and the pressure of this very society often pushes us to try to awaken this desire in our children. And as soon as possible. Whether these attempts are justified or not is debatable, but we can say one thing – you should not do this by comparing them with other children who are supposedly “better” than them. If parents begin to show “positive” traits in other children, hoping that their baby will seek to adopt them, the result may not be as successful as they hope, and even the opposite. Researchers believe that when a child is constantly compared to someone, this negatively affects self-esteem and self-confidence.

      4. Tell them about the benefits of negative emotions.

Let’s start with the obvious – children behave like children, and adult restraint should not be expected from them. Almost every child has spontaneous outbursts of anger, envy, sadness, and so on. It’s not all bad, though – this behavior often provides adults with great opportunities.

Dr. John Gottman of the University of Washington says that the usual adult response to a child’s “bad behavior” is negative – some form of punishment. As he writes in his articles, it is much better to make it clear to the child that everyone experiences negative emotions, and that there is nothing strange in them. At the same time, it is worth teaching the baby how to constructively deal with such emotions and their consequences.

      5. Notice their efforts and accomplishments.

Sooner or later, the child will reach the age at which we all understand that in order to achieve something, you need to work hard. That is why it is so important to be able to notice when a child is trying very hard to achieve this “something”.

“We advise parents to closely monitor the processes in which your child is involved and notice what exactly he is doing. This will help you praise him for specific efforts and achievements, without getting off with general phrases:” you are so smart and you are doing everything so well “Believe me, this will have a much more beneficial effect on his development,” writes Dr. Carol Dweck of Stanford University in her articles on cognitive tasks during growing up.

      6. Appreciate family traditions.

When there are common hobbies, activities, or rituals, this is usually a good sign of a stable and healthy family. And stability has always been an important aspect of the process of growing up. According to specialists working at the Institute for Child Development, the total time spent by family members gives children the main advantages:

      • the child feels important and loved;
      • he observes positive examples of adult behavior;
      • adults have time to observe children’s behavior and learn more about their strengths and weaknesses;
      • the child can express his thoughts and feelings, which helps to strengthen the bond between parents and children.

      7. Let them take risks.

Nobody argues that children need some supervision, but this does not mean that adults should monitor every breath and sneeze of a child. Overprotection will not make a child’s life better, but it can also have a negative impact on his development.

In an article published in the Journal of School Psychologists and Counselors, the researchers write: “Does overprotection of their own children and excessive attention to their needs and problems cause parents to underestimate their requirements for them? As a result, children rarely face difficult situations, do they learn little to deal with them, learn to overcome difficulties, learn from mistakes, and other skills that may come in handy in adulthood? The results of our latest research lead us to assume that the answer to this question is most likely “yes” .

      8. Encourage them to develop a sense of personal responsibility.

And, since we talked about overprotection in the previous paragraph, it is very important to allow children to do what is in their area of responsibility – whether it is cleaning or housework. You should not control their every step, but only check the result. Why?

Child psychologists believe that excessive supervision of every action of the baby can develop in him the confidence that he cannot do anything himself. Yes, in order to develop in children a sense of responsibility and the ability to be responsible for their actions, they need to be paid attention, encouraged, and even punished from time to time, however, this is best done as a reaction to the result of their actions. Believe me, constant supervision does not lead to anything good.

      9. Create happy memories.

In a pilot study by two Harvard professors, the theory emerged that adults who had many good childhood memories looked and felt much happier and more fulfilling than those who did not. The researchers also noted that participants in the experiment with happy memories of childhood were much more willing to help with additional questions and tasks, condemned unethical behavior more strictly, and donated more to charity. So by creating happy memories for our children, we may very well be teaching them to be happy and supportive adults.

      10. Be happy yourself!

Children, like a sponge, absorb everything they see and hear, both good and bad. And if the adults around the child smile more often, then, most likely, he will try to imitate them in this. “Children can’t be happy if the adults around them don’t take care of themselves and their relationships,” says Carolyn Cowen, a psychologist at the University of California.

What do children do when they are alone at home: funny stories from Mel readers

Do you remember the day you lost your parents for the first time? And they realized that now all the things in the house are at your disposal (mom’s cosmetic bag and dad’s camera, hooray!). Chalk readers told their stories from the Home Alone series – we publish the funniest of them.

I just got sick a lot. In fact, constantly. One day, my mother went to the store: the refrigerator was empty, I was sick, incessantly. I was not afraid to be alone, I was a very sensible and sane girl.

When leaving, my mother complained that it was time to wash the windows, but there was no time yet. Since I already felt good, I decided to surprise my mother by washing the windows. But only managed one thing.

I was eight years old, we lived on the ninth floor. Mom did not appreciate the surprise. And they didn’t leave me alone anymore. And I, remembering my sanity and this case, now do not leave mine either.

I was left alone at home at the age of seven. I decided to cook condensed milk, and the jar exploded. At that time, the laundry was hung out to dry in the kitchen. Grandmother was very happy with the consequences of my independence.

I am eight years old, I am alone at home. They call me from the street to go for a walk, but I don’t have keys, so I can’t go out. I stand in anguish on the balcony, looking at my girlfriends below. And then I see a candy on a string in front of me. Our upstairs neighbor noticed my sadness. And supported.

At the age of five I managed to catch rubella. Of course, I was sent home on sick leave. Those who have been ill with it know that in childhood it is most often tolerated relatively easily. However, the whole point is that even after a visible recovery, the child remains a virus carrier for some time and can infect others, including adults who have not had it before, for whom the relationship with rubella is by no means so cloudless.

In general, my mother and I were at home. Of course, I considered myself perfectly healthy and honestly did not understand why I could not go into the yard for a walk. Somehow, my mother went away for a while, either to the store, or somewhere else, and I was left at home alone. Summer. It’s warm outside. And here I must also say that my kindergarten was located right in the courtyard of the house where we lived then. And so I sit by the window and see how all my kindergarten friends are walking with might and main on the site, playing – in general, they get all the joys of life possible at that moment. Unlike me, of course.

And I felt so offended that, without thinking twice, I got dressed, went outside and went straight there. At the same time, I realized that entering the kindergarten through the central gate would be somewhat naive on my part, to put it mildly, and could be fraught with trouble.

Therefore, I just calmly climbed over the fence and joined my peers

Another oddity: at that moment, for some reason, there was not a single educator on the site who could stop my criminal carelessness. Therefore, I walked around the site (at least, according to my feelings at the time) for a relatively long time. And only at a certain moment, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a large figure of our kindergarten doctor Zoya Ivanovna in a white coat and cap. She hurriedly walked in the direction of our site and uneasily gleamed her golden rimmed glasses. I realized that I should retreat, and the sooner I do this, the better for me.

In a word, I got out the same way, through the fence, and literally five minutes later I was again sitting by the window and watching the commotion that I managed to unwittingly create. The most amazing thing is that it did not have any serious consequences either for me or for the others. At least, I don’t remember that after my escape from quarantine in the kindergarten there were general cases of rubella. A few days later, I myself was released from this quarantine, and in the garden itself, I remember, no one said anything about this either. Although now, of course, I understand that there is, frankly, no more fun in this story than sad.

When I was about nine years old, my parents and their friends went out for the evening, leaving me with my three-year-old brother and four-year-old boy, the son of these same friends. I was distracted by the TV in the hall. When I ran into the kitchen to check on the boys, I saw that they had gutted a bag with 10 kilograms of flour. The elder, apparently, rubbed his eyes hard with his hands, because they simply stuck together and did not open. The upper and lower eyelashes stuck together like a dough! I thought that the stroke would be enough for me. I decided that the child would remain blind, that he could no longer be unglued and saved. Turning on composure, I solved the problem on my own, and also removed the flour from the kitchen. But the psychological trauma remained for life!

My brother and I were six and five years old. We decided, while my mother ran to the store, to make cakes: the records were sprinkled with Indian tea and expensive cologne on top. In general, 20 cakes were decorated this way. Given the shortage in Soviet times, my mother was simply shocked.

My mother often left me alone at home, because she considered me independent. And I was afraid of losing her trust, so I didn’t naughty. But once she could not resist and lit the candles. One fell and set fire to the carpet. I quickly put out the fire with water, but there was no way to hide the monstrous black spot. Mom was very angry. And to soften her, I said that I had prayed. She was taken aback and didn’t know how to react. I just asked you not to do it again. And I didn’t.

She stayed at home alone from the age of four, when she was sick. Mom called me several times on the phone from work, explaining a hundred times how to turn on video cassettes with cartoons.

Summer, I’m already 6 years old, I played the criminal at home alone. It was my favorite game: as if I had stolen diamond beads (glass from a chandelier). And in order not to be caught, I had to disguise myself. I put on my mother’s make-up and put on the white tights bought for school, a skirt, a blouse, a hairpin with a bow. In general, everything that my mother strictly forbade touching until September 1.
