About Us

Second Generation Family Owned and Locally Operated

For two generations EDU-Care has been delivering honest services to our valued clients. We are driven by consistent values such as integrity in our business, investing in our employees and a passion to be respected by the families we serve. EDU-Care is also locally operated; as owner/operators we are proud to live and work within the communities we serve.

Our Mission and Purpose

Edu-Care is a private, non-profit Early Learning Center. It is an interracial, nonsectarian, and nonpolitical institution that provides a safe and healthy environment so children can grow and learn to be responsible and caring adults. Our purpose is to serve families whose children are at our center while parents cannot be with them.  We encourage parents to become partners with us as we support each other in guiding children in positive ways to become strong ethical members of our world community.

Our Philosophy

We Believe: Children can learn through play and by example. That providing an environment rich in activities invites learning through hands-on play and promotes successful development physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally. Our center belongs to our families, and we invite parents and grandparents to visit. We suggest parents have a meal with their child, volunteer in their classroom or join us on a field trip.

Why Kid’s First

We have loved caring for the sweet children in the Layton area for over 23 years now!  The love and concern we have as a center is like no other!  We are a small facility where we are able to put each child’s needs FIRST! The experience we have helps us to maintain a great place for children to grow and learn while being cared for in a loving way.  We have many years of additional training and have had opportunities for being a part of multiple grants throughout the years. It has greatly benefited our center and improved the care we provide. It has also helped make it available to purchase great new equipment for the children to enjoy.  We strive to employ the best possible care givers that love what they are doing and either have their CDA or higher credentials in childcare or are on the path to achieving those requirements.  We believe in constant improvement and are always striving to be our best!

We have completed the baby steps, toddler, two years old, and preschool grants.  These have included one on one training and equipment in each of these classes. This has also provided a great resource for learning with the creative curriculum which we are able to provide on a daily basis. We strive to be current on all child development standards and work hand in hand with the state and the ever increasing standards that they hold.  We are excited to share our education and training with all the children in our care!

“Play is our brains favorite way to learn”

-Diane Acherman

We specialize in infants, toddlers and early childhood.  This means we put added attention and training towards the ages of infant to preschool.  We believe these early years truly are the most important years.  We strive to make sure all our babies and children are cared for with more than just their basic needs, but with individual care and concern. We make sure they feel love and care while learning many great and important things as they grow and develop.  They learn to engage in social and learning opportunities with our Creative Curriculum program, planned activities, and freedom to learn by play.

“Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.”

-Kay Redfield Jamison

We love to help the preschool and kindergarten children in our care to learn and develop very important social and cognitive skills.   We strive to have an environment where children can connect with other children and instill healthy relationships.  We work with the children in our care with the exciting learning opportunities that are available in our Creative Curriculum program.  We also provided opportunities to sit together at meal time in a family style serving pattern.  This is a great opportunity for children to learn healthy eating and good social skills. We encourage children to learn by play which includes opportunities for creativity and problem solving.  We believe here at Kid’s First that it is a child’s full time job to play!

“Play builds the kind of free-and-easy, try-it-out, do-it-yourself character that our future needs.”

-James L. Hymes, Jr.

We absolutely love the energy and excitement that the school age children in our care bring.  We care for school age sibling of the younger children at our center.  We provide before and after school care, transportation to and from school, and care on days out of school.   We make sure to create an interactive fun experience with field trips that correspond with the Creative curriculum program that they are participating in.  We love to continue to care for the children as they grow up with us!  We provide care up to the age of 10 years old, with the exception of the needs of our families.

    Layton | it’s… What’s Layton?

, Frederick (Leighton, Frederic) 1830, Scarborough – 1896, London. English painter and sculptor. One of the most famous representatives of academic painting of the Victorian era. He was the son of a successful doctor. From childhood, together with his family, he traveled a lot around European countries, where he received a fairly broad general education. Two countries – Italy and Germany – had a great influence on his formation as an artist. For some time he attended the Florentine Academy of Arts. At the age of 17, he entered the Shtedel Institute, which combined a school with the status of a museum. Undertaking in 1848-1849traveled to Brussels and Paris, returned to Frankfurt, where he continued his art education under the guidance of an Austrian artist who belonged to the Nazarene group, von Steinle, whom he considered his only teacher. In 1852 he left for Rome, where he painted the painting Procession Carrying the “Madonna” by Cimabue (1855, Royal Collection), which brought him his first success. Even then, Thackeray, who met him in Italy, predicted great fame for the young painter in the future and the chair of the President of the Royal Academy of Arts. Leighton’s early works are marked by a strong influence of Nazarene painting with its coldish rationality. The German masters turned out to be close to him with an interest in the Middle Ages and the Early Renaissance, combined with an academic painting form. Stay in Paris in 1857-1859softened the influence of German art and prepared the artist for a future career as a salon-academic painter. An important milestone in the artist’s work was the 1860s. Leighton’s manner changed more and more towards the “classical” style, which is especially clearly seen in canvases with nudes (Nude Venus, 1867, private collection). He often pays attention to themes from antiquity. In 1868, the artist was elected a member of the Royal Academy of Arts, within the walls of which the cult of the “grand style” theory, created by Reynolds a hundred years earlier, still reigned. However, being a master of the 2nd floor. XIX century., Leighton relies in his art on other values. He puts new meaning into old concepts. For him, “beautiful” is a certain, recognizable ideal, born from a simple everyday image and feeling, which are transformed from certain ethical and aesthetic positions. According to the artist, it is this process that gives art the strength, depth and mystery that form the basis of the figurative structure of the work. Such an understanding of the ideal is far from the heroic ideas of citizenship of eighteenth-century neoclassicism. Artists of the 19th century, either like Alma-Tadema, turn to themes related to the daily life of Ancient Greece and Rome, the interest in which was fueled by numerous archaeological research and discoveries, or, like Leighton, they seek to use the characters of ancient mythology to create compositions, with more or less symbolism. The master’s paintings sometimes take on a mystical coloration (And the sea uprooted the dead who were in it, 1892, London, Tate Gallery). In many ways, Leighton’s academism is shaped by the tastes of its time, it sometimes absorbs, perhaps unconsciously, the images and pictorial finds of the masters who are in opposition to the Academy, and in a bizarre way combines them with the academic tradition. Although Leighton was part of the circle of artists opposed to the art of the Pre-Raphaelites, some of his works are marked by the same sensual beginning as the later paintings of Rossetti. In the 1890s, the sensationalism in the interpretation of images created by Leighton intensified, sometimes giving the canvases a touch of eroticism (Bathing of Psyche, 1890, London, Tate Gallery). In the last decade of the master’s work, his palette becomes lighter, airy, the drawing becomes more complex, enriched with linear rhythms, the compositions are more and more overloaded with details – flowers, fruits, swans, foam of the sea surf (Garden of the Hesperides, 1892, Port Sunlight, Lady Leaver Art Gallery). His canvases are often made in the form of tondo and are similar to decorative panels. Leighton’s heroines, sometimes reminiscent of odalisques, reflected a passion for the sensual bliss of the Middle East. The master made his first trip there in 1868. Leighton was an interesting portrait painter. In contrast to his allegorical compositions, the portrait of the famous Orientalist, poet and translator, the English consul in Damascus Richard Burton (c. 1872-1875, London, National Portrait Gallery) attracts with its simplicity of form. The piercing gaze of deep-set eyes carries great energy. The large-scale sculpted head, which stands out in relief against a dark background, seems to have been created by the sculptor’s hand, and the point of view chosen by the artist from below betrays the desire to monumentalize the image. This impression is not accidental. An important aspect of Leighton’s work was sculpture. His first work – Athlete wrestling with a python (London, Tate Gallery) – he exhibited in 1877. It was in sculpture that the master was closest to the classical ideal. Here reflected his deep knowledge of the Hellenic heritage. The favorite painter of Queen Victoria, Leighton enjoyed fame in his time and was awarded high awards and titles (in 1886 he received the title of baronet, and in 1896, on the eve of his death, became a peer).

    Play-Based Learning

I’ve been working with the little ones since I was little myself! Everything about nurturing children fills me with such joy. I have a trilingual (English, Spanish, Portuguese) program where they play, learn, and thrive!
I’m a mom of two and have been working with children in my home for over 2 years. Opening my own child care program in my home gave me the opportunity to create the welcoming, comfortable environment that I think is so important. I especially love to watch them express themselves, but the truth is that so many parts of the day and the week bring me a lot of joy. Through it all, I focus on learning through play.
One of the best parts of working with children is watching them learn and grow. The work is incredibly rewarding, especially when I think about all the children I’ve helped grow and learn. It’s such a gift to guide the children in my program as they mature.

    Play-Based Learning

The best part of being a daycare provider is caring for and nurturing so many amazing children. There is nothing more rewarding, and the relationships that form with families are a special added bonus! Kids learn so much in my program, while having fun and spending time with friends. My home is a place where kids can be kids – and I am there to guide them with the same patience and love I gave to my own three children. Every child has their own personality and their own unique gifts. In my daycare, I encourage kids to develop those gifts! I started my program when I had my first child. I knew I wanted to be home with him, and I enjoyed it so much I decided to extend child care to families in my community. Helping others while doing something I love is so rewarding! I have had three more children since then, and my daycare family has grown a lot too – but one thing hasn’t changed – I still love being around young kids and helping them grow.

    Great Outdoor Space

A home daycare should be a warm, positive, safe environment for fun and learning. I’ve been working with children for forty-two years in a family childcare setting, and I’m also a certified medical assistant with some experience with early intervention. Children have always been a huge part of my life – I raised four children and three foster children who are all adults now – and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I teach children so many things – from academics to social/emotional skills – and I’m continuously inspired by the progress they make toward their goals and by how much they learn and grow every day!

    Ms. Evelyn

    Play-Based Learning

I have 15 years of experience taking care of young children. For me, one of the best parts of working with children is watching them learn and grow. I feel so fortunate to experience that every day and to share my skills and experience with families through my home-based child care program, where I focus on building independence. I aim to create an environment that is friendly and comfortable for the children I care about so much.
So many parts of this job are fun, but I especially love to read books to them. I can’t imagine spending my days any other way. I’m also proud to do this important work. That’s especially true when I think about all the children I’ve helped grow and learn.

Opening my own child care program in my home gave me the opportunity to create the encouraging, happy environment that I think is so important. I especially love to sing and dance with them, but the truth is that so many parts of the day and the week bring me a lot of joy. Through it all, I focus on giving children personalized attention. One of the best parts of working with children is that they all need love and care. The work is incredibly rewarding. It’s such a gift to guide the children in my program as they grow.

    Infant Care

First I am a mother, I love children, taking care of children suit my personality. I love to see them grow, learn new things, and develop under my care. I particularly enjoy creating inviting play spaces around children’s interests and observing them explore and discover meaningful experiences. It’s also about the love of learning, the curiosity and the joy that come from the children, and you get to be a part of that experience. I love that I can help support other parents by caring for their children while they are at work or in school. Working with children has numerous advantages, you are the witness of so many wonderful firsts, you see so many smiles, you also learn from them, you have so much fun with them and it makes my heart happy.

    Small Class Sizes

Young children are a constant surprise! No matter how many years you spend working with kids, you’ll find that every single one of them is so different. This program was born partially out of a desire to spend more quality time getting to know and raising my own 2-year-old daughter. She’s learned so much from her older brothers (ages 9 and 17), and it’s made me realize how much children benefit from being around one another. I wanted to create the best possible environment for her and other children in our neighborhood to grow up in. It’s just an absolute joy getting to know them as people, particularly through their learning processes and the kinds of things they create during our time together.

    Arts & Music

Children have so much to offer. They are naturally so enthusiastic about learning new things, and that curiosity is so fun to be around. Each child also has their own strengths and interests and things they can teach each other! It’s beautiful to see the friendships they form at this age. Also, anyone who has looked after kids before can tell you that they teach us just as much as we teach them. After helping take care of my nieces and nephews and raising four children of my own, it’s become very clear that each individual child has something so special to share with the world. They are a constant inspiration.

When a child discovers something new for the first time, they just light up! That spark of wonder is something educators are able to keep alive. I’ve always wanted to become a teacher, and that led me to early education. After working in preschools and becoming a mother, I decided to open my own daycare so I could work closely with kids and help them find the things they are most passionate about.

Let’s find a really good daycare for you

Get your own recommendations based on your preferences, daily routine, and what matters most to you.

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.

    What is NeighborSchools?

Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.

We know how hard finding good child care can be – especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.

So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.

    How’s it work?

Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care – so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.

    Is there a cost?

Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools – we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.

How do I know if I’m ready to take the survey?

Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.

How do I know if a daycare has openings?

Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.

More questions? Text or email – we’re here to help.

We’re online Monday – Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.

Taking the first step is easy

“The further path of mathematical development, the success of the child’s advancement in this field of knowledge, largely depends on how elementary mathematical representations are laid down.” nine0003

      L.A. Wenger
An informative and interesting Week of Mathematics started today in our kindergarten. The entry of children into the world of mathematics begins already in preschool childhood. Mathematics is a universal method of cognition of the surrounding and objective world, and its role in modern science is constantly growing. Nowadays, mathematics in one way or another is needed by a huge number of people of various professions. The special role of mathematics is in mental education, in the development of intelligence. This is explained by the fact that the results of teaching mathematics are not only knowledge, but also a certain style of thinking. It is important to instill in children a love for mathematics, to show its significance around us, its important participation in all types of activities. nine0003

Worcestershire sauce. What is it eaten with?

An interesting article was found on Timeout.ru
The history of Worcestershire sauce (aka Worcestershire, Worcester, Worcester) is very interesting. According to one version, a certain Lord Marques Sandys, the ex-governor of Bengal, in 1837 brought to his native Worcester a recipe for a sauce he loved while serving in India and ordered it at a local pharmacy. But what happened did not even remotely resemble the lord’s favorite specialty. Frustrated, he refused to take the order. The rejected sauce migrated to the basement, where after some time it was discovered. It was then that his finest hour came: the settled product acquired an exceptional taste. According to another version, Lord Marquez ordered the development of the recipe to chemists John Lee and William Perrins, and they developed the recipe without delay, according to which the sauce is still being prepared. nine0003

By the way, Worcestershire sauce is only Lea & Perrins. Everything else is just an imitation. A sauce is prepared from twenty, and according to some sources, as many as forty components, which include tamarind, anchovies, lemon balm and aspika (concentrated meat broth, clarified and fat-free). But the main secret of cooking is aging in oak barrels. Note to especially advanced culinary specialists: a serious recipe for making sauce at home is in the Larousse Gastronomique encyclopedia. The taste of Worcester is very spicy, sweet and sour. I would even say – too spicy. Two or three drops in any dish is more than enough. I decided to test our “hero” when marinating meat for barbecue. In my usual recipe, I just added three drops. Even such a small amount of sauce gave the meat a rather noticeable spicy sourness. Later I remembered that Worcester is an indispensable ingredient of the Caesar salad discredited in our Palestinians. The application in this recipe is also elementary. The result clearly illustrated how, with a visually identical set of ingredients, “Caesars” in restaurants differ so much. Sauce! Someone just saves on it. But I don’t save money: I now use it for stews – roast beef and stews, season all kinds of hot appetizers, raw meat steak, marinated fish and even bacon and eggs. nine0003

    Recipe / Caesar (3 servings)

    Romano salad – 400 g
    White bread – 100 g
    Garlic – 1 large clove
    Extra Virgin olive oil – 50 g
    Egg – 1 pc.

      Pumpkin farm

We were looking for a fun farm to pick some pumpkins. We decided to try Berry Patch Farm! It is $4. 00 to park on the weekend. Go early as it was busy last weekend.

It was cute with lots of pumpkins. They are not in a patch to pick but have two areas that you can pick from. First area is near the entry area and next take the tractor trailer ride and pumpkin area. Then you can take pumpkin back on tractor trailer and pay at the small store. They had cotton candy, cider, face painting, and couple other areas. There is also some chickens, pigs, goats to look at not pet but see. There are plenty of spots for cute pictures!

      Cute farm!

Flower Power: 53 years of Woodstock Festival

    LifestyleShopping

    Interesting facts York, USA.

Initially, it was planned to arrange it in Woodstock, but the organizers could not find a suitable place there and as a result, leased 6 hectares of land in Bethel for this purpose.

    #2

The organizers assured that there would be no more than 50 thousand visitors, but in the end, Woodstock was visited by about 500 thousand people.

    #3

    Woodstock entrance was free .

    No. 4

speakers included virtually every rock star of the 1960s: The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joan Baez, Joe Cocker, Grateful Dead, Ravi Shankar, The Incredible String Band, Carlos Santana and many more.

But The Doors and Led Zeppelin refused to come to the festival . They say that Jim Morrison did not want to participate in “a pale version of the Monterey Festival”, and the Zeppelins were “another group in a long list”, which both teams later regretted very much. The Beatles, who at that time were on the verge of collapse, did not participate in the festival either.

    №5

Singer Joan Baez, who closed the first day of the festival, performed when she was six months pregnant.

    №6

Three people died during Woodstock (one was overdosed, the second was hit by a tractor, and the third fell to his death, falling from building structures), two children were born and b was conceived, according to rumors, about 200 thousand children.

    №7

In 1970 a documentary film Woodstock was released about the festival. 3 days of peace and music, which won the 1971 Oscar for Best Documentary and also won nominations for Best Sound and Editing. Among the team of editors was, by the way, the future star directed by Martin Scorsese.

The couple on the cover of Woodstock, are still together! According to The Mirror newspaper, Nick and Bobby Ercoline are now 60 years old, they got married in 1971 and have not parted since. According to Nick, this photograph embodies the spirit of that era for him and is a collective image of their entire generation. Bobby’s memories of the legendary festival are less poetic, she remembers “rain, mud and lack of toilets.”

Let’s remember 19The 60s with designers and designer brands: an unforgettable time of the psychedelic revolution and flower children, beatniks and hippies, Woodstock and Ken Kesey’s acid tests. The history of Woodstock: how the legendary music festival appeared

    Woodstock 1969

Woodstock-19 festival69″ was an unprecedented event in the world of music, which attracted a record 500,000 viewers. These four days at the dairy farm of Max Yasgur became a real celebration of peace, love and music, for a short time turning all the guests into one huge colorful family. There were long-haired hippies, Ken Kesey’s “Merry Pranksters”, and even Yippie rebels, led by their revolutionary leader Abbie Hoffman.

    Woodstock 1969

It seemed that nothing could destroy the fantastic atmosphere of the festival: people were ready to stand in many kilometers of traffic jams to come to the farm, tear down fences for unhindered passage and share food with each other, erecting field kitchens. The spirit of unity reigned at Woodstock – unity with nature, people around and, of course, with music. Of course, there were some banned substances, promiscuous relationships and provocative antics of rebels, but this did not interfere with the general euphoria, but rather was even part of it. At the end of the hippie era, the “flower children” got their own festival. A festival that no one has yet been able to repeat (even the organizers of the legendary Woodstock-1969″).

    Fantastic Four

    Michael Lang

It’s hard to believe today, but the festival was created by four young people, the oldest of whom was only 27 years old at the time of Woodstock. It all started with the fact that Michael Lang – who in those days fully corresponded to the image of a barefoot hippie with a mop of curly hair and without a penny in his pocket – began to dream of a commune away from big cities, where musicians could create for their own pleasure. He was very interested in music himself and was even the manager of the band Tgain from San Francisco. In his dreams, Michael already imagined this “hippie paradise” in all colors, but there was one problem. He did not have the money to implement an ambitious project.

Some time later, Michael met Artie Kornfield, vice president of repertoire at Capitol, and was surprised to find his like-minded person in him. Young people got excited about the idea of creating a music studio at Woodstock, which will open its doors to all talented performers of good music. It remains to find sponsors.

Woodstock organizers (clockwise from bottom left): Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfield, Michael Lang and John Roberts. First official joint portrait, 23 May 1969 years

Meanwhile, in New York, John Roberts, the heir to a pharmaceutical company, and his friend Joel Rosenman puzzled over the opposite question – where would Roberts’ money be best invested? Lacking any ideas of their own, they ran an ad in the New York Times that read, “Young people with unlimited capital are looking for exciting, legitimate investment opportunities and business opportunities.” Needless to say, in the first days after publication, a bunch of offers from poor seekers of happiness and easy money literally fell on them. But, by some miracle, among this heap of crazy and charlatan ideas, Roberts and Rosenman caught the eye of Lang and Kornfield’s proposal. “Why not?” they decided. After the meeting of four young people on February 19For 69 years, the idea of making a music studio has grown into an even more ambitious and consistent plan: to organize a three-day rock festival for 50,000 people, and with the proceeds from it to build a large cultural center with recording studios and a retreat for musicians. Then Michael, Artie, John and Joel had no idea what difficulties they had to face, and what this idea would lead to at all.

    Problems, problems, problems…

So, four young people started organizing a music festival. They immediately found the perfect location for it, an industrial park near Wallkill, New York. With their own money, they also printed tickets ($7 for one day; $13 for two and $18 for three days), which were sold in small local shops and post offices. In a word, each of these “fantastic four” became a man-orchestra for several months: it was necessary to resolve all issues with the owners of the territory, arrange food delivery, find musicians and persuade them to perform at an unknown festival, and also hire all the necessary employees – from service personnel to security services. Today, such events are organized by huge teams, which can include more than 100 people. But at 19The 1960s had not yet formed a culture of big festivals, Michael, Artie, John and Joel were in fact the pioneers, whose level of enthusiasm went through the roof.

Waiting for a bus to Woodstock, August 13, 1969

However, enthusiasm alone failed to leave. Almost immediately, problems began with the venue for the festival. As soon as the people of Wallkill learned that thousands of dirty hippies would soon descend on their city, they were horrified. They were ready to defend their city to the last. Perhaps if “Woodstock” did take place in the vicinity of Wallkill, the angry residents of the city and local farmers would come out at midnight with pitchforks and torches and staged a real “massacre” against strangers. But the authorities took action in time, releasing July 2, 1969 year law effectively banning concerts in the area.

Panic broke out among those involved in the organization of the festival: shops refused to sell tickets to Woodstock, and negotiations with most of the musicians came to a standstill. There was a month and a half left before the festival. To top it all off, the people who bought the tickets began to demand a refund of their cost. Woodstock was on the brink of collapse.

    Woodstock 1969

Fortunately, in mid-July, Max Yasgur offered his 600-acre dairy farm in Bethel as a venue for the festival. It was a real success for the organizers. However, the change of location at the last moment still made them pretty nervous: they had to conclude new contracts for the lease of the dairy farm and surrounding areas, as well as obtain permission to hold the festival in the city. The construction of a stage and a pavilion for performers, car parks, concession stands and a children’s playground – all this had very little time left. The preparatory work was supposed to end literally on the day the Woodstock began. But, of course, they didn’t manage to finish something – the ticket offices and gates remained unfinished.

The road leading to the dairy farm on the eve of Woodstock 1969

It also turned out unexpectedly that the expected number of guests (50,000 people) had quadrupled. It would seem that this is good news. But not for the organizers, who already have a lot of problems. It became clear that the amount of food supplies that were ordered initially would not be enough.

And literally on the eve of the start of the festival, it became clear that there would also be big problems with security. On the morning of 15 August 19For 69 years, three large buses with police officers arrived at the dairy farm, each of whom was promised $ 50 for work at Woodstock. And when they were ready to begin their duties, the authorities announced to them that everyone who remained at the festival would subsequently face trouble in the service. The police officers calmly turned around, climbed back into the buses and left. However, some still remained – but under fictitious names, in order to avoid unnecessary problems. “We had eight or nine Mickeys or something like that,” said a waiter at a local hotel.

Four days America will never forget

    Woodstock 1969

    Woodstock 1969

On Wednesday (two days before the festival) about 50,000 people had already camped near the stage. These first guests entered Woodstock for free, climbing through a hole in the fence where they had not yet installed a gate. The organizers were not ready for such a turn of events. How to get fifty thousand people to leave the fenced area, buy tickets and go back in a civilized way? Obviously, this was not possible. But it was only half the trouble. A precedent was set, and rumors that Woodstock was completely free to enter spread like lightning in neighboring cities. As a result, tens of thousands of people rushed to Max Yasgur’s farm, and many kilometers of traffic jams formed on the access roads to the festival. People abandoned their cars and walked. Soon the fence separating the festival area was knocked down. And along with it, the organizers’ dreams of making money were destroyed. However, the “flower children” were delighted: the commodity-money relations they hated disappeared from the concept of “Woodstock-1969″.

“On Friday morning, there was a feeling of a blockade: if it was very difficult to get to the festival, then it was completely impossible to go back,” said E. Kopkind. Blocked roads created difficulties in getting artists to Woodstock. The organizers had to rent helicopters to help them get to the stage. In the following days, the missions of these aircraft only expanded. The police, like kind angels, dropped food, drinks and waterproof raincoats from the cockpits of helicopters, because it was completely unrealistic to break through the crowd on the ground.

    Woodstock 1969

Yet despite the difficulties, Woodstock started almost on time. On Friday evening, August 15, Richie Havens took the stage and announced the beginning of the festival, and in his parting word he asked the “children of flowers” that there be nothing but “fun and music” for these three days. Sweetwater, Joan Baez and other famous performers of the time delighted guests with their music at sunset.

Carlos Santana and John Brown at Woodstock 1969

The musical performances resumed shortly after noon on Saturday and continued until the break at 9 am on Sunday. And in the afternoon, such stars as Santana, Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead and, of course, The Who took to the stage. Despite the fact that the officially planned three-day festival came to an end, the performances of the musicians went on until the morning of the next day. On Monday at dawn Jimi Hendrix played his songs, putting an end to the history of “Woodstock-1969”. This legendary performance has gone down in rock and roll history forever.

    Woodstock 1969

Despite the sheer lack of sanitation, hour-long lines to the toilets, lack of food and heavy rain, all visitors to Woodstock felt truly happy. “When you talk to people who have been there, as they get to the seventh heaven of their memory, where Woodstock is located, they are inspired as if they are retelling a mystical event,” Gene Young wrote.

The police later said that about 450,000 people visited Woodstock in 1969, but the festival guests themselves say the figure is almost twice as much – 800,000. One way or another, Woodstock became a real sensation of that time. Within nine months of its completion, about 200,000 illegitimate children were born. It was the beginning of the sexual revolution and the end of the “hippie era”.

    Woodstock 1969

    After Woodstock

The organizers of Woodstock were stunned by the event, but they didn’t even have time to enjoy the fact that they created the most popular music festival in history, as they first of all faced $1 million in debt and 70 lawsuits that have been filed against them. But to their great relief, a film about the festival, released a year later, won universal love and even won an Oscar at 1971 years. And most importantly, that the profit from it covered most of their debts.

    Woodstock 1969

Of course, it was a sin not to repeat such a cult festival. Therefore, several attempts have been made to revive Woodstock and its phenomenal atmosphere. But none of them can be called truly successful.
