    Early development or child “deprived of childhood”? | Teaching

    What is so unusual about them? Adviсe! Excellent advice from people who have devoted themselves entirely to working with children. Advice from people who give a piece of their heart to kids every day. And these tips are unique in that they are not given by theorists who have hidden themselves from the world behind their desks. They are given by practitioners who live more than one life over their years, because they live not only “for themselves”, but also “for each of their pupils”.

    So, tips. Why am I talking about them? Not so long ago, I became a participant in a discussion that unfolded around the issue of early child development. There were many opinions: someone believed that it was necessary to deal with a child and the sooner you start classes, the better. Someone thought that, of course, you need to do it, but you should not start doing this early. Someone believed that the child would be taught everything necessary in kindergarten, and then continue their education at school. But there were also those who believed that in no case should one “deprive a child of his childhood and load his bright head with unnecessary nonsense.” They believe that those “who receive a salary for this”, that is, teachers, should deal with the child.

    I confess right away that I belong to the first category of parents I have described. I have been working with my daughter since birth. When I was still in the time of “happy waiting” for my baby, I learned about the system developed by Mr. Doman. A little later, I read several of his books on teaching kids to read, math, and how to make a child physically perfect and how to give him encyclopedic knowledge.

    I didn’t strictly follow the Doman system. No, I adjusted this system for myself and my daughter. I never wanted my baby to turn into a kind of “computer on legs.” But there was something that I dreamed about from the first minutes of her birth: that in life she would have practically no difficulties. Or rather, let them be, but only in order to somehow diversify her life, and those that she can always overcome. I dreamed that my daughter was the happiest in the world, the most beautiful and the most intelligent and quick-witted.

    What does a child need to be happy? Parents’ love, tenderness and support. This was pretty easy. For complete happiness, a child does not need an ultra-modern and expensive car, branded items from the latest collection of a famous designer. No! Unlike most adults, a child can be happy just because , for no apparent reason. He can enjoy the gentle sun, his mother’s smile, spanking through the puddles with his bare feet.


    So, my daughter can become happy even without me, and if it requires my participation, I am always there and will always do everything that depends on me for her happiness.

    The next point of my dreams was: “My daughter is the most beautiful” . This task may seem difficult to someone, because so far we (people, parents) are not able to control the process of intrauterine development of the child and its subsequent growth, since the genes will take their toll anyway. But what everyone can do is the belief that their child is really the most beautiful in the world!

    You can test this for yourself and your loved ones. Most notably, the experiment will take place on the fair sex. Pay attention to how a woman (or girl) is transformed if she constantly hears sincere words about her attractiveness and irresistibility. (Just don’t tell me that your baby was “generated” and she got her great-grandmother’s long nose. Just don’t focus the girl’s attention on it. Pay attention to her bottomless eyes, long eyelashes and beautiful eyebrow shape (oval face, cute dimples and etc.) And if every day you, gently hugging your treasure, will whisper words about how beautiful she is, you will see that everyone will see the beauty of your baby!

    Well, now let’s move on to paragraph about “mind and ingenuity” . This is where the vast field for your activity as a loving parent appears. Here you can truly “move mountains”! The main thing to remember is that a child comes into this world absolutely clean. It can be compared with a brand new USB flash drive, on which nothing has been written yet, but you can fill it with completely different information. Having come into this world, your baby learns a language (or several languages ​​at once), he learns to recognize the reality around him, he learns to crawl, and then walk, and much more. And so slowly, day after day, his brain is loaded with more and more information. The main thing now is to develop in the child the desire and interest in learning new things.


    If every day you devote at least a few minutes to activities with your baby, over time, his brain will get used to working at such a pace and the learning process will become a kind of entertainment for him, a game.

    And the effect of classes with a child at an early age will exceed all your expectations. My daughter is about to be fifteen, and I am still surprised at how quickly she perceives new things, how little time she needs to not only read a book, but also process the information she has read and draw the appropriate conclusions. She easily memorizes in a few minutes what her peers spend hours cramming on. And he remembers this information for a long time, unlike crammers who forget about everything immediately after answering the teacher.

    So, the time that I devoted with great pleasure to work and play with my newborn, and then growing up daughter, was not in vain. It is still bearing fruit, which I am infinitely happy about.

    But one day I ran into a misunderstanding. A friend of mine asked me a question: “Don’t you think that you simply deprived your child of childhood?” At first, I was even confused and answered only “No. Not at all! And then I thought about this: if my friend asked me this question, then maybe she is not alone in her conviction? It turned out that this is indeed the case.

    I am very sorry that such people are of the opinion that classes with a child are something similar to school lessons, where there is a teacher and there are students and a certain style of behavior. For some reason, it never occurred to them that you can work with a child anywhere: at home, on the street, on a walk, at a party … The main thing is that the classes do not bother you, much less your baby.


    A child, being born, is simply programmed for learning in the first years of his life, and it depends only on you what the initial void will be filled with – new knowledge donated by you, or those small crumbs that he himself can squeeze out of the world around him.

    Having gathered around the table with our mothers for tea, we raised the issue of early childhood development. They talked for a long time, giving arguments in favor of one or another position. In the end, everyone agreed that it is simply necessary to deal with a child! After all, a child deprived of this opportunity is a child deprived of childhood, because, learning the world on his own, he is forced to “work” both for himself and for a parent who regretted giving him enough attention and free time.     American scientists completed a study begun in 1971 and came to the conclusion about the influence of the educational environment on brain development

    “Our study shows a relationship between brain structure and five years of high-quality educational and social experiences,” said Craig Ramey, lead researcher at VTC’s Fralin Institute for Biomedical Research. “In this way, we have shown that socially vulnerable children who received a stimulating and emotionally supportive learning experience in the early stages of development, statistically significant changes in the structure of the brain appear in middle age.”

    The results support the theory that the early environment influences the brain structure of people growing up in an environment with socioeconomic challenges and multiple social challenges, explained the study’s first author, director of the Center for Community and Neurosciences in Pennsylvania.

    The study involved participants of the Abecedarian project (translated as “alphabet book”, “beginner”), launched by the Institute of Child Development. Frank Porter Graham at 1971, which aimed to explore the potential benefits of educating young children from families of low social status. The project then became 111 babies born between 1972 and 1977. Of these, 57 were involved in learning games based on the latest achievements in pedagogical theory, the remaining 54 were in the control group. 98% of the children were African American four months of age. Both groups received additional medical care, food, and family support services. Starting from the age of six weeks, children from the first group began to receive educational support: classes were held five times a week for five years.

    The researchers looked at participants in the project when they were in their 30s and 40s to find out how childhood experiences affect adult brains. Participants in the early learning group were found to have increased the size of their entire brain, including the cortex.

    “People are generally aware of the potentially great benefits of early education for children with very limited resources,” said study co-author Sharon Landesman Raimi, a professor at the Fralin Institute for Biomedical Research. The new findings show that biological effects accompany many of the behavioral, social, health and economic benefits reported in the Abecedarian project. This supports the idea that positive early life experiences contribute to later positive adaptation through a combination of behavioral, social, and intellectual elements.”

    During follow-up examinations in the neuroimaging laboratory, structural MRI scans of the brains of 47 study participants were performed. Of these, 29 were in the group that received an educational program focused on developing language, cognitive skills, and interactive learning.

    The remaining 18 people received support in the areas of health, nutrition and social services. The two groups were well matched on a wide variety of factors, such as parental education, head circumference at birth, and age at brain scans.

What is the best way for boys and girls to study – together or separately? Will the son be more effective in concentrating on his studies at a school where all boys study? Will the daughter feel more confident in the classroom among girls alone? And how will children who study separately learn to communicate with the opposite sex?

Almost every parent in the UK will ask these questions sooner or later. Many British private schools, both primary and secondary, still only accept children of one gender. In the state system of education, elementary schools are mostly mixed, but in academically strong high schools (Grammar Schools), girls and boys are often offered only separate education.

Where should the child be sent? Should the form of gender education be the main criterion for choosing a school? Let’s try to figure it out.

Background

For centuries, a quality academic education in Britain was considered an exclusively male privilege, because boys were trained “to go out into the world”, prepared for the role of family breadwinners, expectations were placed on them as future scientists, politicians, economists. Girls were brought up so that they could successfully marry and support their spouses, and they were not particularly burdened with intellectual work: they were taught music, dance, good manners and the ability to conduct a conversation.

The first woman to change these attitudes was Frances Mary Bass, who founded the North London Collegiate School in 1850. Frances Bass wanted her school to provide girls with an education of the same high standard as that which had hitherto only been available to boys. Not all mothers were ready to send their daughters to the progressive University School: they were horrified that girls would be taught such “unwomanly” subjects as Latin and mathematics.

While the headmasters of the oldest boys’ schools followed the development of “girls” schools—even in 1989 The Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference remained, by and large, a kind of men’s club—the latter began to catch up sharply and overtake the stronger sex in academic performance and compete in the rating tables .

Interestingly, against the background of such a strong, centuries-old gender division, the United Kingdom also became the ancestor of mixed schools. Archbishop Tenison’s Senior School in Croydon, founded in 1714 (and still operating today), is considered the oldest coeducational school in the world, which initially accepted “10 poor boys and 10 poor girls”. And the world’s first mixed boarding school – Dollar Academy – was opened in Scotland in 1818.

However, until the beginning of the 20th century, schools originally founded as co-educational schools were quite rare in Britain. “Ask most people of the day what a school should be like, and they will tell you that it will be a boys’ school, perhaps with additional resources to educate girls,” writes former Eton head Tony Little in his book The Smart Man’s Education Guide. .

Many private schools for boys eventually began to accept girls for the last two years of their studies before entering the university (Sixth Form).

Private single-sex schools have halved since the early 1990s, and we continue to see boys’ schools, for economic or ideological reasons, open doors to coeducation. So, in September 2021, girls will be taught by John Lyon School, the “younger sister” of the famous Harrow School, with a 145-year tradition of teaching boys.

In the public sector, separate education for boys and girls was practically abolished in 1960s in the course of educational reform. Of the more than 2500 schools of separate education, about 400 retained their former status. First of all, these are schools with strong academic traditions (Grammar Schools).

Diamond model

In addition to separate and joint schools, there are also so-called diamond schools in Britain. These are private schools (there are less than 20 of them in the country). They are called diamond-shaped because the principle of learning in them is similar to the shape of a diamond. School education begins at the lowest point – in the lower grades, where girls and boys study together. For the period of adolescence – from 11 to 16 years old – the sides of the rhombus diverge, girls and boys are taught separately. In the last two years of study – Sixth Form, up to 18 years old – the sides of the rhombus again converge and close the figure, boys and girls again get the experience of joint learning.

Separate schools: theories and their refutation

As much as people argue about the advisability of separate schools, so much the main argument against them is used: girls and boys learn differently, so teaching methods should also differ. Without the need to fit in and be seen by classmates of the opposite sex, children will be better able to concentrate on their studies and achieve better results. Allegedly, the temperature in the classrooms should be different – girls cannot concentrate in a cool room, and boys begin to nod off if it is too warm.

In schools for boys, according to the adherents of separate education, students develop at their own pace, play more sports, do not waste energy trying to impress girls. In turn, in girls’ schools, students are relieved of the expectation that they should be feminine and attractive. According to the British Girls’ Schools Association, their students are 90% more likely than the national average to choose the exact sciences and pass exams in physics and chemistry and are five times more likely to continue their studies in medical specialties.

For every such statement, one can find a study with exactly the opposite results.

“There are quite a lot of reliable and high-quality studies, in Britain, America and Australia, that show that there are no differences in the performance of children in co-education and separate education,” says psychotherapist Yulia Ovchinnikova. She explains: “There were two assumptions: first, boys and girls differ in how they absorb information, and second, girls in the presence of boys feel male dominance and show themselves less, especially in disciplines that are considered supposedly boyish: mathematics and the exact sciences. Neither is supported by empirical research. If these differences exist, they are shown in small groups and are not representative.”

“Girls in a single-sex school are more confident and emotionally resilient than girls in a co-educational school, according to a recent study,” reads a headline on the website of the British Association of Girls’ Schools. Yulia Ovchinnikova objects: “Girls in a single-sex school are more likely to have problems related to psychological health: they have higher rates of depression and anxiety. There is often a high level of competition in girls’ schools. This leads to the fact that the school receives high academic ratings, but girls, leaving the school, suffer from perfectionism, impostor syndrome, stress, tension, a high degree of frustration, in some cases up to narcissistic disorders.

Psychotherapist Maria Khodurskaya notes another not very pleasant feature of the school environment for girls: “Our psyche needs someone else to project negative things onto it. Historically, it was very convenient to use the opposite sex for such a transfer. When there are no boys in a girl’s school, the friendship between the girls becomes tougher, and they start to “friend against each other” more. Girls begin to play female and male roles, including among themselves. And it can be very difficult for girls with finer organization.”

The Telegraph columnist Briony Gordon, who attended a private all-girls school in Kensington, confirms these thoughts: “Boys sometimes pick fights and beat each other up, but at least it ends quickly. Girls resort to emotional abuse that leaves scars for years … You will be considered strange if you do not suffer from an eating disorder, they will sympathize that your parents are still not divorced. And because you are kept away from boys, you may become, to put it mildly, not very selective in sexual relations.

With regard to graduates of boys’ schools, a study by the University of London’s Institute of Education found that they were at higher risk of divorce than male graduates of mixed schools and were more prone to depression.

The study does not explain why the former students of boys’ schools get divorced. Critics of separate education believe that young people do not have enough opportunities to gain experience in communicating with the opposite sex, and sexism and a “macho culture”, hypermasculine behavior, can flourish in the school itself. Defenders of boys’ schools counter that sexism is just as common in mixed schools, if not more, depending on the discipline and culture of education in each individual institution.

18-year-old Arthur is graduating from a prestigious boys’ school in central London. His mother, Olga Krylova (names have been changed to preserve confidentiality), says she never regretted the decision to send her son to a single-sex school. “For us, it was, first of all, a good school with established traditions,” says Olga. “And the girls study there, but they have a separate school. Many events are held together, such as theatrical performances. By the way, my son considers the principle of the harmful influence of the opposite sex on his studies to be nonsense. On the plus side, a healthy rivalry plays a big role in his school. Sometimes such masculinity in some guys can overflow, my son believes. But at the same time, I often heard stories from him about how he and his friends helped each other, and not only within the walls of the school. I think this is a great preparation for independent living – to develop the desire to be better in something than others, and at the same time not forget about those who are close to you.

Gender identity and first sex

One of the major concerns of parents considering sending their child to a single-sex school is that without sufficient interaction with the opposite sex, children may become homosexual.

“Research does not support this theory. Children try, experiment, follow their nature, or maybe they want to be original or act out injuries, ”comments Maria Khodurskaya.

“My son and his friends have no problems communicating with girls, everything is as usual. They are friends with girls, get acquainted through friends, through common interests. There are a large number of clubs in our school for boys, including the LGBTQ society,” says Olga Krylova. “The son and his classmates are completely calm about the fact that there is freedom of choice in everything, including the issue of sexual orientation. There was a case when one of the boys changed gender. He was allowed to complete his education at a boys’ school, although he changed his name to a woman’s and wore a girls’ uniform. It was harder for younger students to understand what was going on. But the older boys showed understanding and support.” A similar story was told by the mother of a girl who studied at the Royal Masonic School for Girls: and those who have changed their gender identity in the course of learning refer to themselves as ‘he’ or even ‘they’.”

As for the first sex – another fear of parents – then, again, according to experts, the moment when it happens does not depend on which school the teenager is studying, but on the inner mood and personality traits, however, parents of girls need be careful.

“Since there is no experience of communication with the opposite sex at school, the desire to get this experience is great and strong. Due to cinematic stereotypes, teenage hormonal storms and competitiveness inherent in teenagers, girls are more prone to mistakes, trying to use every chance to gain experience,” says Maria Khodurskaya.

Lack of communication?

Due to the lack of choice between a good mixed school and a good separate school, parents often have to compromise between quality education and the limitations of a single-sex school.

How can a child compensate for the lack of communication with the opposite sex? Psychologist Yulia Ovchinnikova advises several options: invite friends with children of the opposite sex to visit; choose additional classes where there will be mixed groups; send the child to a Saturday or Sunday Russian school, where there will be both the Russian language and other disciplines, and joint communication; find circles and camps during the holidays so that the child has the feeling “I know what girls (boys) look like, and from time to time I communicate with the opposite sex.

Bobrovskaya school – History of the school

I was taught by a young teacher after the Pedagogical College – Avgusta Yakovlevna Maslova. 2nd and 3rd grades were taught by Elizaveta Konstantinovna (I don’t remember her last name). The 4th grade was taught by the principal of the school. At school there were amateur circles, games that were led by Pavel Dmitrievna (I don’t remember her last name). Exams were taken in all subjects.

I studied well. Graduates were given a certificate of graduation.

Since the construction of the school in the raid, the village ceased to exist.

Archival information

According to the reports of the RONO of the Kholmogorsky district of the Arkhangelsk region for schools for the 1935-1956 academic year, it appears that the Bobrovskaya elementary school was located in the village of Bobrobo. “The school was in the village of Koskovo, a 2-storey wooden building with stove heating. Technicians worked: Novoselova Maria Prokopyevna and Belavina Vera Nikitichna.

At the school there was a garden plot where vegetables were grown. On the ground floor of the school there was a gym, a living room where the director of the school lived, and a kitchen.

In March 1943 there was an elementary school in Koskovo. The director was Elizaveta Pavlovna Puzanova (she arrived in Koskovo in March 1943). The school had 22 students.

In 1949, the school had grades 1-3. The director was Puzanova Elizaveta Pavlovna.

1951-1952 Koskogorsk seven-year school. The director was Kazakevich Nina Nikolaevna.

School in Vainovo

The history of the Vainogorsk school (according to the memoirs of Kalininskaya Evgenia Vasilievna, teacher of physics and mathematics)

In the autumn of 1959, the territory of the Koskogorsky village council became part of the Primorsky district in connection with its enlargement. At that time there were five schools in the area. Three primary: Vainogorskaya, Koskorskaya, Peremskaya and two seven-year-olds: Bobrovskaya and Vainogorskaya. The latter was opened in the village of Vainovo on September 1955 years old.

The school was located in a typical one-story wooden building with stove heating. When the school in the village of Bobrovo became secondary, and students from Koskovo were brought to it, the primary classes of the Vainogorsk school were transferred to the boarding school building. There was an opportunity to conduct classes in one shift, to open an extended day group.

Teachers actively participated in the social life of the village (reports, lectures, amateur performances, subbotniks). Children not only studied, but also worked hard. Many, in addition to household chores, helped their parents on livestock farms. In the autumn, the older guys harvested turnips and potatoes in the fields of the state farm, in the spring they chopped and stacked firewood for the school stoves.

The director of the school was especially concerned about the organization of labor training. Primary school teachers conducted labor lessons in accordance with the program. In the school workshop, the boys performed carpentry and turning work. The girls were engaged in housekeeping, wood burning, sometimes they worked together with the boys in the workshop.

Despite the lack of necessary conditions, serious attention was paid to physical education lessons. For many years Uzkaya A.P. worked on the accumulation of sports equipment, improving the lessons.

Medical examinations of children were carried out at the school every year. They were conducted by pediatrician Lokhova L.P. . Colds, bruises and many diseases were treated by the paramedic of the Vainogorsk FAP Akimova T.P. .

On a voluntary basis, but with great responsibility and initiative, teachers were engaged in pioneering work. Pioneer leaders in different years were: Leontieva L.S. , Parfenova N.F. , Narrow A.P. , Pletneva A.D. , Vnukova A.P. .

In a boarding school, when he worked, Zyablova N.I. tried to create a homely atmosphere and comfort, was a kind and attentive teacher.

The students were seventh- and eighth-graders at Vaughn and Pine Middle Schools in Reno and at Sparks Middle School in Sparks.

At Sparks Middle School, discipline and school police records were also studied. Compared to the year prior, discipline referrals were reduced by about 10 percent the first year the uniform policy was implemented. Additionally, school police data showed a 63 percent reduction in police log reports during the first year of implementation. Other decreases were noted in reports of gang-related activities and student fights, along with graffiti, property damage, battery and administrative assists.

It found that schools with strict uniform rules report that potential bullies find it harder to identify targets which are historically children who do not quite fit in. A standard dress makes for a level playing field and removed pressure on children to wear the latest fashions or designer labels which can highlight inequalities between students who come from different family backgrounds.

The vast majority — 90 percent of students — reported that they disliked wearing uniforms. However, other data showed more nuanced results. According to a 2013 survey from the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), 77 percent of respondents estimated the average cost of school uniforms per child, per year, was $150 or less.

According to the National Retail Federation, in 2013 parents spent close to $231 per child on back-to- school clothing. In 2016 that number has gone up. Back-to-school clothing purchases are expected to be more than $235 per child. New shoes add about $130 to the tab.

Our public schools are more than just an educational necessity – they are our one shot, as a society, at inculcating the most important American values for the future citizens and leaders of our country. And perhaps no value is more crucial, and more uniquely American, than diversity of thought and expression, as reflected in that empowering first guarantee the American people saw fit to include in our Bill of Rights: the protection of the fundamental freedoms of speech, religious thought, press, or assembly.

There are certainly many positives to the idea of school uniforms. On the surface, it might be easy to get behind the idea. However, it also begins the trip down a very slippery slope of endangering individual liberties, expression and personal style. If we start mandating that all kids wear the same clothing to school, where does it stop? Will haircuts need to be the same? Will everyone carry the same backpack, same lunch box, have the same design for their pencils? While those questions may seem silly today, it may be more of a real thought than we’d like to think in the future if all schools start mandating exactly what their students wear. Allowing kids to wear what they want allows them freedom of expression. Something that this country is founded on. And while we might want to discredit the youth’s right to express themselves because they are young, we should not.

Traditionally favored by private and parochial institutions, school uniforms are being adopted by US public schools in increasing numbers. According to a 2020 report, the percentage of public schools that required school uniforms jumped from 12% in the 1999-2000 school year to 20% in the 2017-18 school year. School uniforms were most frequently required by elementary schools (23%), followed by middle (18%), and high schools (10%).

The first recorded use of standardized dress in education may have been in England in 1222, when the Archbishop of Canterbury mandated that students wear a robe-like outfit called the “cappa clausa.” The origin of the modern school uniform can be traced to 16th Century England, when the impoverished “charity children” attending the Christ’s Hospital boarding school wore blue cloaks reminiscent of the cassocks worn by clergy, along with yellow stockings. As of Sep. 2014, students at Christ’s Hospital were still wearing the same uniform, and according to the school it is the oldest school uniform still in use. When Christ’s Hospital surveyed its students in 2011, 95% voted to keep the traditional uniforms.

School uniforms in the United States followed the traditional use of uniforms established in England and were generally limited to private and parochial schools.  One exception was found in government-run boarding schools for Native American children, first established in the late 1800s, where the children, who had been removed from their families, were dressed in military-style uniforms.

According to figures released in 2018 by the National Center for Education Statistics, the total number of public schools nationwide requiring students to wear school uniforms increased from 12% during the 1999-2000 school year to 21% during the 2015-2016 school year. In 2015-2016, 25% of public primary schools enforced a uniform policy, as did 20% of public middle schools and 12% of public high schools. A higher proportion of schools located in cities had mandatory uniforms in 2015-2016 than schools in suburban, town, and rural areas. Mandatory uniforms were far more prevalent in “high-poverty” schools (in which 76% of students were eligible for reduced-cost or free lunch programs) than in “low-poverty” schools.

Among the US cities with the highest use of school uniforms in public schools are Philadelphia (100% of schools), New Orleans (95%), Cleveland (85%), Chicago (80%), Boston (65%), and Miami (60%).  The number of schools with “strict dress codes” has also increased, from 47% in 2000 to 57% in 2010.

Characteristics of a debate

A debate is characterized by the following:

  • It consists of an organized and reasoned exchange of ideas and/or points of view .
  • It can take place between two or more persons orally or sometimes in writing.
  • Has a moderator to evenly distribute speaking times and queues, keeping the discussion in order.
  • Argumentative confrontation takes place on the basis of a pre-agreed set of rules or norms for debating.
  • Debates are usually watched by spectators. Depending on who was more eloquent in their arguments, the audience can choose the winner.
  • The purpose of the debate is to come to some conclusion from the ideas put forward.

Types of debates

Informal debates are usually not agreed in advance.

There can be many different types and styles of debate, depending on a set of rules or norms that are agreed upon in advance. However, depending on whether there is an official set of rules for the conduct of debates, or whether they are set spontaneously and improvised, we can distinguish between formal and informal debates, respectively

  • their observance. In these debates, forms must be carefully followed, and the topic for discussion is usually very clearly defined.
  • Informal debates: characterized by argumentative freedom, they are usually not agreed in advance and do not have formally established rules. They also usually don’t have a moderator.

Structure of the debate

The structure governing the debate is usually agreed upon in advance and is part of the rules of the debate known to those who will participate in the debate. In a broad sense, however, any official debate consists of four stages:

  • Open . The moderator’s introduction consists of an introduction to the topic of the debate, emphasizing its relevance, importance, or topicality, as well as the two positions that will oppose each other in the debate. He then does the same for the debaters, explaining their level of knowledge on the subject and their professional or academic background.
  • The body of the debate. In this section, protagonism corresponds to debaters, which typically have two blocks of time of equal length, to first present one point of view, then another, and finally argue for or against. Where necessary, interaction between debaters should be mediated by a moderator.
  • Questions and answers . After the main body of the debate is presented, the moderator usually asks a few general questions so that both participants can answer them in their own way. Finally, the moderator may give the floor to the audience to ask any questions they see fit.
  • Conclusion . This last part will summarize what has been said and announce the winner of the debate, or the conclusion reached by the debaters as a whole, if any. This is where the debate ends.

Any debate has a fundamental purpose to oppose existing points of view on an issue through two or more speakers in a serious, reasoned and frontal manner so that those present at the debate can obtain relevant information and to form one’s own opinion

Debate rules

Debate rules can vary, but in general they usually look like this:

  • The moderator has authority throughout the debate and must use it to create the most fair, honest and respectful environment for airing ideas.
  • Debates must be conducted in an orderly, peaceful and respectful manner without ad hominem arguments, without the use of physical or psychological violence.
  • Debaters should stick to the topic of debate and not abandon it in favor of others that are closer or more convenient to them.
  • Interruption of another should be avoided, although one may have the right to reply and, in some cases, with the permission of the moderator, take responsibility.
  • Interventions should be as brief and specific as possible so as not to monopolize time and prevent the other person from expressing himself.

Like the first debate, it will last an hour and a half without a commercial break. 15 minutes will be allotted for each topic. Opponents will have two minutes for the moderator’s response, the remaining time on the topic is allotted for response remarks or answers to additional questions. The moderator makes sure that the time is distributed evenly. This debate was supposed to be the third, but due to Trump’s refusal to hold the fight in a virtual format after he suffered from the coronavirus, the second round was canceled. Instead, Trump and Biden held meetings with voters on the air of various TV channels.

    Nora Roberts – author, actress

    Facts

    Early years

    Born in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA in 1950, the only daughter and the youngest of five children. She is of Irish descent, as are her Irish parents. Her family were avid readers, so books have always been important in her life. Despite always making up stories in her head, as a child, Roberts did not write anything other than essays at school. She studied at a Catholic school, and the nuns instilled in her a sense of discipline. During her sophomore year at Montgomery Blair High School, Roberts met her first husband, Ronald Aufdem-Brinke. They got married against their parents’ wishes at 1968 as soon as she graduated from high school. The newlyweds settled in Kiedisville, Maryland.

    While Roberts’ husband was working, she stayed at home with her sons, Dan and Jason. Roberts spent most of her time doing crafts, including pottery and sewing clothes for her children. In 1983, the marriage ended in divorce.

    Roberts met her second husband, Bruce Wilder, a carpenter, when she hired him to build bookshelves. They got married on July 1985 years old and still happy. Together they set up their home, traveled, and opened a bookstore in Boonesboro, Maryland, owned and operated by her husband.

    Roberts believes that a professional writing career requires discipline. You will become unemployed if you really think that you just need to sit and wait for the muse to land on your shoulder. She concentrates on one novel all the time, writing Monday through Friday for eight hours a day—sometimes more, even while on vacation.

    Roberts writes directly on the computer without using a tape recorder or a pen. Instead of starting with a blueprint or a blueprint, Roberts starts writing a book from a key moment, a character’s character, or major questions that are the main elements of a story. After completing the first stage of work, that is, after writing the story, Roberts returns to the beginning of the novel. The second stage usually consists of adding details, as well as a deeper study of the characters. She then does a final review to polish the novel before sending it to her agent, Amy Berkower. Roberts never works on more than one book at a time. Roberts often writes trilogies, finishing three books at once in order to be able to stay with the same characters. Whenever possible, she does the same with the Eve Dallas Investigation books, writing three books in a row before returning to modern novels. All of her trilogies have been released in paperback, as Roberts feels that the reader has to wait too long for a hardcover edition.

    Roberts does most of his research online because he has an aversion to flying. But, despite this, she owns property in County Clare, Ireland and regularly visits the country. Some of her novels are set in Ardmore, County Waterford.

    Meet Bobbie Worthington, Our Center Director

    Meet Bobbie Worthington! She is the Center Director at Sumner KinderCare in Hendersonville, TN. While she’s new to KinderCare, she has worked in early childhood education for 25 years and was recently the director at one of the Head Start centers, where she worked for the last 12 years. She holds two degrees in child development – a Bachelor of Science from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master’s Degree with a specialization in Leadership and Management from Walden University. Her favorite quote is from Mr. Rogers: “Often when you think you’re at the end of something, you’re at the beginning of something else.” Outside of work, she enjoys spending time in the Smoky Mountains and at the beach with her fiancé and her nephew, whom they are raising together.

    Sumner Kindercare Programs

    Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)

    Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
    centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
    you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
    classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
    ready to explore their world.

    Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)

    Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
    because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
    place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
    help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.

    Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)

    This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
    of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
    discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
    classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
    get used to a more structured school setting.

    Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)

    This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
    about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
    preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
    artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
    kindergarten!

    Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)

    When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
    writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
    letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
    in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
    math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

    Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program

    Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)

    In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
    develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
    rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
    and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!

    Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)

    KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
    Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
    instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
    science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
    way of learning the foundations of music.

    Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)

    Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
    books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
    From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
    and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
    attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
    have the data to prove it.)

    How does naptime work at Sumner Kindercare?

    Do you support alternative diets?

    We strive to be as inclusive as possible. To that point, we provide a vegetarian option at mealtime, take care to not serve common allergens and can adapt menus based on your child’s food sensitivities. If your child has additional needs, we’ll work with you to figure out a plan.

    Are meals included in tuition? Can I choose to send my child with lunch?

    We provide nutritious meals and snacks developed by a registered dietician to meet the needs of rapidly growing bodies and minds. If your child has special dietary requirements and you would prefer to bring in their lunch, please make arrangements with the center director.

    Does my child need to be potty-trained?

    Every child begins toilet learning at a different age. Until your child shows an interest in toilet learning, we’ll provide diaper changes on an as-needed basis. When your child shows an interest, we’ll discuss how to work together to encourage toilet learning.

      offer our families a loving, safe and educational environment where
      children learn and grow each and everyday.  We are a three
      star center and are currently going through the process of becoming
      a nationally accredited center through the National Association for
      the Education of Young Children(NAEYC).   Our educators have
      over 200 years total experience in early childhood education!

    • We have a keypad entry and all of our playgrounds are fenced. Our
      staff is trained in CPR/First Aid and we practice monthly safety
      drills. All of this is for the protection of your children! We have
      recently been named a “Gold Sneaker Facility” by the Tennessee
      Department of Human Services and the Tennessee Department of
      Health! This means we go above and beyond regular standards to
      provide our children with opportunities for physical fitness and
      good nutrition.
