Meet the village head
Greetings
I am delighted that you are taking the time to learn about The Village Child Development Center. I conceived the idea of The Village from a place that runs deeper than just having a love for children. After working as a Spanish teacher with students from underprivileged and affluent backgrounds, I quickly learned that the educational gap between the two groups begins at birth. My goal is to offer meaningful educational experiences that expose students to various sectors of life during their most impressionable years, in an effort to bridge that gap. The stakes are high for today’s children, and a solid foundation must begin with high quality child care providers. My experience as a second language speaker makes me confident that instruction in two languages will increase the chances of success for students and make them greater assets to our community. Developmentally appropriate practices, high-quality play experiences, and measurable resources are my promise to you and your child. I look forward to offering a first-class educational experience as your family joins The Village family!
Yours in Education,
Lori Wilson

Philosophy
Philosophy
The mission of the Village Child Development Center is to set the standard for quality education and caregiving in our community. We work to educate the whole child and thus educate the entire village.
Philosophy
Philosophy
Philosophy
At the Village Child Development Center, we believe that it truly takes a village to raise a child. We are committed to taking responsibility for the children in our community (village) by nurturing their cognitive, emotional, physical and social development through a rigorous curriculum and stimulating experiences. Our dual language program serves native English and Spanish-speaking students, and will help them leverage the long-term advantages of bilingualism and cultural diversity. We lay the foundation for children 6 weeks to 12 years of age to become lifelong learners and valuable members in society. We work with our families to restore communities through routine parent and caregiver training so that their children will flourish in any village.

Comets and shooting stars | Nauka i Zhizn
Many of our readers have probably admired “shooting stars” on warm summer nights, or, as they are called in science, meteors. Here and there they flash one after another, of different colors, shades and brightness, and, flying, often leave behind a faintly luminous trail for several seconds (Fig. 1). Some of them, the brightest, scatter sparks during the flight, like a Roman candle. This heavenly firework is especially beautiful in the dark southern sky on a moonless night. Every year on certain nights, as we will talk about later, there are especially many meteors. Occasionally, approximately once every 20-25 years, a real meteor shower occurs (Fig. 2). Such, for example, “rain” was observed 9October 1933 Meteors flew in all directions across the sky in a continuous stream. People gathered in crowds and watched with amazement the amazing starry rain. In Leningrad, where the author of the article observed this rain, over 250 meteors per minute could be counted. The meteor shower was especially strong in Western Europe. So, for example, according to observations in Spain, there were over 1,000 meteors per minute. In some places, the phenomenon caused panic among the people, they talked about the onset of the “death of the world.” The natives in Sudan (Africa) beat drums during a meteor shower, expecting some terrible events.

Such abundant meteor showers were observed more than once in the last century, for example, in 1833, 1866, 1872 and 1885.
But what are shooting stars, or meteors?
Some confuse shooting stars with those fixed stars that shine in the sky from night to night. They believe that this or that star suddenly, having broken from its place, flies across the sky. This, of course, is not true. The fixed stars are the same celestial giants as our Sun. But they are so far from the Earth that they seem to us only faint luminous points. Shooting stars are tiny grains, a few millimeters in diameter and a fraction of a gram in weight. Flying at a tremendous speed, up to 50 or more kilometers per second, into the Earth’s atmosphere, they hit air particles and experience strong resistance. As a result, already at an altitude of about 120-150 km, they heat up to a temperature of several thousand degrees and turn into an incandescent gas, which quickly dissipates in the air. They seem to burn up in the air at an altitude of 50-80 km from the Earth.
The reader may have a question – is it possible to see such tiny particles flying from us at a distance of a hundred kilometers, even if they are heated to such a high temperature? But here it is necessary to take into account that not only the particle itself heats up and glows, but together with it, under the influence of its high temperature, the hot air surrounding the particle, entrained by it in its rapid flight, also glows.
The products of the “combustion” of the solid particles of the meteor gradually settle to the Earth in the form of the so-called meteoric or cosmic dust. This dust can be detected in negligible amounts in precise analyzes of snow taken from the tops of mountains, far from industrial centers, dusting the atmosphere with ordinary terrestrial dust.
Shooting stars can be seen on every clear night, one has only to look for some time at any part of the sky. But, as we have already noted, on some nights there are especially many shooting stars. Most of them are observed in August and especially on August 11-12. Then you can count up to 100 meteors per hour. They fly past the constellations Perseus, Andromeda, Cassiopeia, Auriga and others, located in August in the evenings in the northeastern part of the sky.
If you carefully follow the shooting stars for 1-2 hours, then it is easy to replace that most of them fly out, as it were, from one section of the sky and fan-shaped scatter in different directions. If the paths of meteors visible in the sky are plotted on a star map and then continued in the direction of the appearance of meteors, then they will all intersect almost at one point, called the radiant (Fig. 3). Shooting stars in August have a radiant in the constellation Perseus, from which they are called Perseids.
The radiant phenomenon can be explained as follows. Shooting stars in interplanetary space move in a stream parallel to each other. But when they enter the Earth’s atmosphere, as they approach the surface of the Earth and, consequently, to the observer, their apparent paths in the sky seem to diverge in different directions. But this is purely a prospective phenomenon. We can observe it, standing on the railroad track and looking into the distance. It seems to us that the rails, which lie parallel to each other, diverge in different directions as they approach us. The trees of the alley seem to diverge in the same way.
In interplanetary space, there are whole streams of small particles – meteors, which, like the Earth and all other planets, move around the Sun in certain orbits. And so, when the Earth, during its movement, crosses the orbit of a stream, it meets its particles. The latter, flying into the Earth’s atmosphere, cause the appearance of shooting stars (Fig. 4). Every year on August 11 – 12, the Earth passes through the thick of the Perseid meteor shower, and at this time the largest number of shooting stars is observed.
In addition to the Perseids, there are also other fairly abundant meteor showers, for example: Quadrantids, observed in early January in the constellation Draco, Lyrids – in mid-April in the constellation Lyra, Aquarids – at the end of July in the constellation of Aquarius, Orionids – in the twentieth of October in the constellation Orion , Leonids – in the first half of November in the constellation Leo, Andromedis – at the end of November in the constellation Andromeda, Geminids – in the first half of December in the constellation Gemini, etc. The Earth daily crosses the orbits of any streams, but usually very weak ones, so during the night you can see only a dozen or two meteors.
Now let’s say where and how meteor showers arise.
Our modern knowledge in this area of astronomy allows us to consider them the remnants of decayed comets, these amazing tailed stars.
Comets are unusual celestial bodies. Every bright comet has a bright nucleus surrounded by a hazy shell – this is the so-called comet head. Sometimes a very long, light tail extends from the head.
It must be said that many people mistakenly take for comets fireballs that suddenly appear and rush across the sky at great speed, called fireballs, after which a thunderclap, roar and rumble are often heard. Fireballs, like meteors, appear as a result of a cosmic body entering the earth’s atmosphere, but not such a tiny particle as when a meteor appeared, but a larger piece – a stone weighing several kilograms, and sometimes much more. Not having time to “burn out” in the earth’s atmosphere while moving in it at cosmic speed, such a stone falls to the Earth; it’s called a meteorite.
Unlike fireballs, comets are not as bright and do not cause illumination of the area, which is usually the case when flying fireballs. Then fireballs are usually observed for a few seconds, while comets are visible for several days and even months. Comets move far beyond the Earth’s atmosphere, being at a distance of tens and hundreds of millions of kilometers from the Earth. On the contrary, fireballs appear precisely within the earth’s atmosphere, flying in it at a distance of several tens of kilometers from the Earth’s surface.
If we follow from day to day for some time the location of any comet among the stars, then it is easy to detect its movement across the sky among the fixed stars.
Probably many of our readers have seen drawings or photographs of comets. It is certain, however, that only a very few of them have themselves seen a bright comet in the sky, since such comets appear quite rarely, about once every ten years. The last bright comet, named after the astronomer who discovered it, Comet Skjellerupp, was observed at 1927 AD The comet was discovered at the end of November, when it was still far from the Earth and had an insignificant brightness, remaining invisible to the naked eye. However, by December 15, its brightness increased so much that the comet was observed even during the day, in full sunlight, being almost next to the Sun, at a distance of only 1 ° from it, i.e., two diameters of the solar disk. On December 18, the comet was seen by one of our Russian amateur astronomers against the background of the evening dawn. He watched her until the sunset over the horizon. Another bright comet in this century was observed at 1910 AD This is Halley’s famous comet. Both comets had huge tails stretching across the sky.
As already mentioned, bright comets appear very rarely. On the other hand, faint comets, visible only through a telescope, are observed annually; in some years even a few comets are visible. Faint comets have the appearance of rounded hazy spots with a brighter nucleus in the center of the spot. It is rare for a faint comet to have a visible tail.
Many comets, like the planets of the solar system, move around the Sun in closed orbits, that is, they are periodic. Such comets make a complete revolution around the Sun for certain periods of time. Comets have different rotation periods. So, for example, Halley’s comet bypasses its path around the Sun for 75 – 76 years. Comet Encke has the shortest period – only 3.5 years. Unlike the orbits of the planets, the orbits of comets are very elongated, but they also have the shape of an ellipse, in one of the focuses of which is the Sun. When a comet passes in a part of its orbit remote from the Sun, in the so-called aphelion, it is very weak and invisible even in the most powerful telescope. But as it approaches the Sun, the brightness of the comet, under the influence of solar heating, rapidly increases due to the formation of gases in it. Along with this, the comet has a tail, continuously increasing both in size and in brightness. The comet reaches its greatest brightness when passing through the point of its orbit closest to the Sun, called perihelion. After that, the brightness of the comet weakens again.
As numerous studies have shown, comets are luminaries that are completely different from planets. The head of a comet is a very rarefied cluster of tiny particles – dust particles and gas. The nucleus of a comet consists of larger parts – stones and boulders, and the tail – of a more rarefied gas. How low the density of the comet is can be judged by the fact that the fixed stars shine through the comet almost without dimming. Calculations showed that for one cubic kilometer; space accounts for only one cubic centimeter of comet matter. Meanwhile, the tails of comets are enormous, and in the brightest comets they extend for several hundred million kilometers.
Remarkable is the circumstance that the tails of comets are directed in the direction opposite to the Sun. For this reason, after passing through perihelion, each comet moves with its tail forward. Such a strange phenomenon is explained by the fact that a repulsive force acts on an insignificant mass of comet tails – the light pressure of the Sun.
On May 18, 1910, the above-mentioned bright comet Halley, in its movement around the Sun, touched the Earth with its tail, but no special phenomena were observed. Even the smallest traces of cometary gases were not noticed in the earth’s atmosphere. Possible collisions of the Earth with comets do not pose any danger.
By their nature, comets are short-lived formations. Making their way around the Sun, they continuously scatter individual solid particles and gas along the orbit. In the end, each comet completely disintegrates, all its matter dissipates. The comet ceases to exist, and instead a meteor shower appears, extending in a ring around the Sun and, in its position relative to the Sun, coincides with the comet’s previously existing orbit.
It must be said that the matter of the comet is initially unevenly scattered along the orbit and for a long period of time a bunch of particles moves in the stream.
If the meteor shower intersects with the Earth’s orbit, then, as already mentioned, when the Earth passes through this intersection point, it will meet particles of the stream, which will cause the appearance of meteors. If, however, it happens that at the moment the Earth passes through the stream, it gets into a bunch of a meteor ring, then a meteor shower will occur, the same as that observed on October 9, 1933.
Convincing evidence for the theory of comet decay can be the decomposition of the famous comet Biela that occurred before the eyes of astronomers. This comet broke up in 1866 into two parts, turning into a double comet. Then, on its subsequent return to the Sun, on November 27, 1872, when the Earth crossed the path of the comet and the comet was supposed to appear in the sky, it turned out that there was no comet, and instead a plentiful meteor shower was observed. According to some astronomers, the number of meteors reached 100 per minute. Since then, the comet has ceased to exist, and instead of it, the Andromeda meteor shower, which we talked about at the beginning of the article, is observed annually.
The above-mentioned meteor shower on October 9, 1933, as it was later established, is associated with the rather faint comet Giacobini. At the moment when this rain was observed, the Earth crossed the path of this comet. The comet, however, still exists, and therefore the flux associated with this comet is still very weak. The meteor shower was caused by the encounter of the Earth only with a clot that had separated from the comet (Fig. 5).
At present, a connection with comets has been established only for a very small number, no more than a dozen, meteor showers. Meanwhile, meteor showers, though very weak, are observed almost every night. Probably these streams are associated with comets that broke up a very long time ago. On the other hand, it should be noted that not all comets are periodic. On the contrary, most comets enter the solar system from interstellar space. Having circled the Sun and passed through perihelion, they can irretrievably go into the depths of the universe;,
It should also be said that every clear night one can observe individual, so-called sporadic, shooting stars, not associated with any streams and comets. These are separate particles that fill the world space, like dust floating in the air.
In conclusion, we note that amateur astronomers can be of great help in the study of shooting stars. Observations of shooting stars are quite simple and do not require special training. It is only necessary to know the starry sky well (bright stars and constellation configurations), have a watch and a suitable star desk, and also have free time at least 3-4 times a month for 3-4 hours. The observer plots the paths of the meteors he has noticed on a star map, while being guided by the location of the fixed stars. The observation log records the time of the appearance of meteors and their physical features: brightness, color, flight duration, etc. Detailed instructions on observing shooting stars can be obtained from the All-Union Astronomical and Geodetic Society (Moscow, 9, mailbox 1268).

Why don’t stars fall from the sky?
This is the force of gravity that keeps the stars from falling, as if they are attracted to each other. From a cosmological point of view, gravity pulls matter together and stays together. That is why planets, stars and galaxies exist.
What does the Bible say about a shooting star?
Jesus in the Book of Revelation (22:16) calls himself “the bright and morning star. ” The term is used separately in Revelation 2:26, 28 and Isaiah 14:12, in Figueiredo’s translation: “How did you fall from heaven, O Lucifer, you who appeared to be such a bright day?”

What color is the Sun?
Therefore the Sun is white. The shades of yellow and red that we see when we look at the sun are due to the scattering of the sun’s rays as they enter the atmosphere.
Why doesn’t the star shine during the day?
It is impossible to see the stars during the day because the sunlight is scattered by the Earth’s atmosphere, creating a blue glow in the daytime sky. This luminosity prevents us from seeing stars during the day.
The rotational movement causes day and night to change due to the difference in illumination in different parts of the planet. Thus, part of the planet is illuminated by the sun’s rays, corresponding to the day, and the opposite part does not receive sunlight, which corresponds to the night.

FIDUCIARY DUTY
What is fiduciary duty: Fiduciary duty is the requirement that certain professionals work in the best financial interest of their clients. As a Fiduciary, we must prioritize our clients’ interests over our own. Fiduciaries have two key duties: duty of care and duty of loyalty.
Duty of Care. Fiduciaries must make informed business decisions after reviewing all available information. We analyze comprehensive information about your financial picture before making recommendations or plans.
Duty of Loyalty. Fiduciaries must not have any undisclosed economic or personal conflicts of interest.
We are proud to commit to the following five fiduciary principles:
We will always put your best interests first.
We will act with prudence; that is, with the skill, care, diligence, and good judgment of a professional.
We will not mislead you, and will provide conspicuous, full and fair disclosure of all important facts.
We will avoid conflicts of interest.
We will fully disclose and fairly manage, in your favor, any unavoidable conflicts.

Business relationships between companies are always associated with various kinds of risks, which are determined by the stability, competence and financial position of partners. Partners often act as partners, with whom companies enter into contracts for the supply of certain products. In order for the transaction to be completely legal and not bring a lot of problems with regulatory authorities, it is important to check the counterparty against various databases before concluding an agreement using specialized sources. Having complete information about the real situation of the counterparty, you can protect yourself from fictitious business transactions and get a complete picture of the counterparty, assessing its solvency and the legitimacy of doing business. Up-to-date information about the partner is the key to making profitable deals.

Modesto Christian Preschool
We have a daughter that just finished her first year in the Pre-K4 program at MCS and had a great experience. We really like the student/teacher ratio and the quality of the teachers. We believe that the school did a great job with academic learning as well as spiritual growth. I highly recommendthis program!…

Sequoia Preschool Academy
Sequoia Preschool has been a blessing to my kids and I’m glad to have signed up as soon as I did. They have been attending here for over a year now and the results have been overwhelmingly positive. My mother commended my child’s improved verbal & social skills since attending Sequoia Preschool. Iadmire the teachers’ patience and time especially that of teacher Samantha with teacher Tammy’s help, on working with my child and helping him get prepped for kindergarten.
The parent – teacher conference is a very important aspect that should be taken seriously. The teachers don’t “sugarcoat” anything and will inform you of what’s going on with your child. If ever in doubt just ask the teachers.
The Infant teacher is very caring, nurturing, and was like my child’s 2nd mommy before moving on to the Toddler class; the Pre -K teachers rock as they make learning fun, understanding, and prepare my child for “the real school world” and I need to get the “secret” from the Toddler teachers on how “they do it”… with transforming the “terrible twos” and “No No” clicks into fine young polite children.
I am grateful to Director Janet and all her staff for keeping up this environment of learning, character/stamina building, and diversity as they cater to my children’s needs accordingly and my family feels very safe and we have no worries with them attending this school.
Their location and hours of operation, are a PLUS and fits perfectly with my office hours.
If you’re a parent and in doubt or uncertain of a choice of day care/infant/preschool to send your child to, please visit Sequoia Preschool Academy and see for yourself.
A big thank you!

Planet Kids Christian Preschool is a ministry of The House Modesto established to fulfill the Biblical mandate found in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will notdepart from it. ”
We believe that who is teaching our children is just as important as what our children are learning. Scripture says, Everyone after he has been fully trained will be like his teacher. (Luke 6:40) As important as the “what is being taught” is, God makes it clear that students learn the teacher’s life as they learn the curriculum. A child is not trained in the way he should go, (Proverbs 22:6), unless that child is being taught God’s truth by teachers who believe and live God’s truth themselves.
Our teachers are committed Christians who demonstrate a calling by God to teach. Academic training, experience, and spiritual maturity make them effective teachers. All of our staff are Christians, with a passion for Christian education, and the desire to invest in your child’s future and in the Kingdom of God.

In 2023 what types of preschool can I find near me in Modesto, CA?
There are two main types of preschool programs you can send your kids to near you in Modesto, CA. The first is a full-time preschool program that usually works well for parents working full-time shifts. The second is a part-time preschool program where you can enroll your child for two to three days per week and typically choose between a morning or afternoon shift. A part-time preschool can be a great option if you want to ease the transition of this new learning experience for your child. You can also check your options in Modesto, CAfor traditional preschool centers, or private home-based preschools.
What should I look for in a good preschool program near me in Modesto, CA?
When you begin looking for preschools near me in Modesto, CA ask about the ratio of learning time to supervised play time so you can get a good sense of whether you believe your child’s needs will be met. From there, ask about what a typical day consists of, what the safety protocols are and how discipline will be handled. Also, make sure to check directly with the preschool for information about their local licensing and credentials in Modesto, CA.
How can I find a preschool near me in Modesto, CA?
When looking for a preschool near you in Modesto, CA on Care. com and you can filter the local results by distance from your zip code. From there, you can compare between preschool programs by traditional facility-based preschools and private, in-home preschools. How can I ensure safety when looking for a preschool near me in Modesto, CA?
As a parent, safety is likely top of mind when you look for a preschool near me in Modesto, CA. We request that all preschools listed on Care.com complete an annual background check called a CareCheck. Any preschools who complete a CareCheck have a badge on their profile that displays the date the background check was run. While a CareCheck is a great jumping off point, we strongly recommend that you do your own due diligence when choosing a preschool. How To Find The School You Want
Finding the right school for your child is a major project.
I run a personal In Home Day Care out of my home. I have a small tri-level home with three play areas. I have a nice eating space, a big backyard, and lots of toys, games, and arts and crafts. I have been an InHome Day Care provider for 10 years. I had my own daughter who is now 11 in an In Home Day Care. I loved that she was on her own schedule and that I had plenty of say in how she was taken care of. I want to provide this same thoughtfulness to the children I care for and their parents.
I strongly believe that all children are special and need consistent love and care. I will provide a consistent schedule for your child/children. If you like, I love to write down what we do each day. Together with you, the parents, I am passionate about providing the best care for your child/children….
Description:
Children come to our group daycare home with a love and trust that is normally shared only with the parent. That love and trust must be fostered and protected in any setting that becomes a substitute for thehome. Our purpose at Bright Kidz Daycare is to do just that. We specialize in full-time childcare. We require a minimum amount of days that the children are in our care.
Visitors to our daycare are usually surprised by the amount of space that we provide our children and also the fact that the kids do not stay in “one” room all day. The children have access to 5 separate areas spread out among three floors of a combined 4500 square feet. This does not include the outdoor play spaces, which are set on 6 acres. We provide the warmth and personal one-on-one attention that your child needs and thrives from.
We have a structured, play-based program. We teach the children the importance of respect for themselves and others. Children learn from playing with their peers as well as table time for writing, handouts and coloring. We provide our children with the tools and environment they need to be challenged and successful.
Bright Kidz has the highest safety policy with a security system for Fire and Police. The house has a sprinkler system as well as hard-wired smoke alarms, battery-operated back-up smoke alarms, back-up caregiver assistants, private napping rooms, well-balanced, nutritious meals, hundreds of books, hundreds of age appropriate toys, large indoor and outdoor play spaces, several large outdoor jungle gyms, cozy reading nooks, and various learning and game stations….

Children between the ages of three and five years meet in the Red Room for childcare. Children who will be turning three during the semester will be started in the Red Room in order to avoid the transition between classrooms.

Children ages three, four, and five meet in the Blue Room for preschool.
We are not accepting Blue Room applications for Spring 2023.
Pay registration fees in Registration A258, either in person or over the phone at (815) 455-8588. The Children’s Learning Center can not accept payments. Registration fees should be paid once scheduled days and times have been confirmed with the CLC Director.
Potty Training
Children in the Green Room do not have to be potty trained. Diapers are checked and changed every two hours, or more frequently, if needed. Once you have started the potty training process at home, please discuss your strategies with the teachers so that the process can be consistent.
Children in the preschool program must be potty trained prior to starting. The classroom is not equipped for diaper changing, although we do understand that children sometimes have accidents. In these instances, the teachers will help children to change their clothes, encouraging independence as much as possible.
Personal Items
Every child in the Green and Red Rooms will need diapers, wipes and a change of clothing. For children who are learning to use the toilet, we recommend several changes of clothing. If your child will be here for rest time, you are welcome to bring a favorite blanket or nap toy, although it is not required.
Every child in the Blue Room will need at least one change of clothing. Additionally, on days specified on the monthly calendar, children will have the opportunity to bring in items for Show and Tell to share with the class.
Food
We provide two snacks and a lunch daily in Green and Red Rooms. No need to bring a sippy cup, we have those available.
We provide a snack during each preschool session.
Every child should have allergy information listed on their emergency card so that substitutions can be made where necessary. Food cannot be brought from home unless there is an un-substitutable allergy documented by your child’s doctor.
Daily Schedule
The children spend the majority of the day in “centers” where they choose the area and activities that they would like to participate in. They can build in the block area, participate in an art project, or choose another area of interest. Children are able to move freely between centers and can work at their own pace on activities. Here is a detailed breakdown of daily activities.
The children go outside several times throughout the day year-round, as long as it is not raining and it is between 15 and 96 degrees (including wind chill or heat index). Always dress your child appropriately for the weather.

What is known about the death of a three-year-old girl in a kindergarten in Yekaterinburg – February 1, 2023
Just a little bit more and the video will load
Showing in one video everything that is known about the tragedy
Video: Maxim Butusov / E1. RU
In Yekaterinburg, on January 31, a girl died after six days in the hospital. She caught on a scarf on a hill during a walk and began to choke. The incident happened in kindergarten No. 180. The three-year-old baby was resuscitated, but they could not be saved. nine0004
During a walk in the kindergarten on January 25, a girl climbed a hill and tried to slide down it. The group teacher lost sight of the child for literally ten minutes. Then tragedy struck.
– Surveillance cameras recorded the incident, – reports KP-Yekaterinburg, citing its source. — At 11:39 the girl went up the hill and lowered her legs. After that, she rolled over and hung down, and her head remained on the stairs. For two minutes the girl dangled her legs, after which she stopped moving. She stood under the hill and did not react. nine0004
– The teacher ran up to the girl at 11:48. At first she tried to pull her legs, but could not. After a few seconds, the child was pushed out. The teacher took her out and carried her into the group in her arms, the media added.

The parents of the deceased refuse to comment and prepare for the funeral. In kindergarten, they can’t talk about what happened either.
– What happened is painful and scary. We are all very worried,” explained the employee of the kindergarten.
After the emergency that happened a week ago, the dangerous hill was not even fenced off. The city department of education promised that it would be demolished in the near future. At the same time, it is still not clear how exactly the girl could catch the scarf on the hill, the details of the incident have not yet been disclosed.
The security forces are now sorting out the details of the tragedy. Investigators opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Art. 109Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence due to improper performance by a person of his professional duties).

In Athenian schools and gymnasiums – the peculiarities of raising children
How the process of growing up of little Greeks took place – we can, unfortunately, only guess about this. Too few sources. Although there is something. We have paintings on vases, we have bronze sculptures, so we do know something. One thing is certain, how cloudless or not cloudless childhood was depended on what social stratum the parents belonged to. And one thing we can say for sure, if the parents were rich, then up to 7 years the child’s life was truly cloudless.
Raising boys in Athens
At the age of 7, boys were placed in the care of teachers. The meaning of this word was not at all the same as today. A teacher means “accompanying a child” in Greek. He was a slave whose job it was to take the boy to school, carry his writing materials, and teach him good manners. Slaves were usually chosen as teachers who were not suitable for any other work, but were distinguished by their loyalty to the house. Often these were foreigners: Thracians or Asians.
There were no public schools in Athens, so every citizen educated his child as best he could. As a rule, private teachers were hired. And they taught children to count, read, write. By the way, they taught to read in warehouses, for example, they pronounced the name of the letters gamma alpha – GA, beta alpha – ba, and in this way, after some time, the young Greek began to read.
The education of the poor ended there. And who could continue the teaching passed on to deeper knowledge. The teacher made the student read poems at school taken from the best poets and learn from memory a poem about people who have ever done great noble deeds. To imprint the text in the memory of the students, the teacher spoke it in front of them in parts, and the students repeated what they heard phrase by phrase. The students approached the teacher one by one or all together and answered him a lesson until they memorized it. And by the end of the training, some managed to memorize the Iliad and the Odyssey.
The role of music in education
Music played an important role in education. The fact is that they saw in it not only a pleasant pastime, but also the continuation of classes. Continuation of studies not only in poetry, but even in mathematics.
From the age of 12, boys began attending another school, where they were engaged in gymnastics, wrestling, running, jumping, javelin and discus throwing. This school was called Palestra. The main goal of physical training in the first place was to prepare for military service, because the young men had, in which case, to protect their homeland.
The upbringing of girls in Athens
The upbringing of girls looked quite different. Until the age of seven, they were under the care of their mothers and nannies, and from the age of seven they were taught weaving, spinning, and the ability to read and write. Their education directly depended on the wishes and possibilities of the family in which they grew up. After all, the state shifted the obligation of educating girls to their families.
Athens Gymnasiums
Adult Athenians who wanted to continue their gymnastics and further their studies attended one of the three Athens gymnasiums. The gymnasium was assigned a very special role among the Greeks. From a place for gymnastics, it gradually turned into an intellectual center, into something that could be likened to our universities.
In particular, such thinkers as Plato, Aristotle, Diogenes and others founded their own schools on the basis of large gymnasiums. By the way, the last of these sages, Diogenes, had his own special opinion about Greek schools and gymnasiums. He said this: “Grammarists study the disasters of the Odyssey and do not know their own. Musicians get along with the strings on the lyre and cannot cope with their own temper. Mathematicians follow the sun and the moon, but do not see what is under their feet. And rhymers teach you to speak correctly and do not teach you to act correctly. ”
Athens International Schools – choose a good school for your child
Since over the years I have enrolled more than a dozen of our students in each of the schools listed below, I can give a well-founded and objective assessment of the entire system of private school education in Athens, and each school separately. Today we will look at the English-speaking schools of Athens, although the city still has a French-speaking school and a school teaching in German.
Schools of Athens: what do you need to know before starting the overview of schools?
There are two main school systems in Athens – American and British. They have a lot of differences: for example, according to the American system, children go to the first grade at the age of six, and this system coincides with all European systems.
Under the British system, children enter first grade at age five, but first grade in the British school is considered the last year of kindergarten for all other systems. That is, a child in the second grade of a British school is considered a first-grader in a Greek or American school.
In addition, these systems differ in their approach to study and discipline. The American system is more relaxed and open, there is no form, and in the elementary grades a lot of attention is paid to how the child develops comprehensively, how he behaves in the society of his peers, how he presents himself and expresses his thoughts. That is, the bias is more on linguistics and arithmetic, as well as communication skills.
In the British system, everything is much stricter: the students there wear uniforms, from the first grades they study different subjects, and the main attention is paid to discipline – it is iron there. Such a system is suitable for those children who are not distinguished by perseverance and self-discipline, because in a British school they will monitor not only their behavior in the classroom, but also their homework.
By the way, every English-speaking school in Athens has kindergartens costing from 6,000 euros per year.
All schools have their own kindergartens. From the age of three, a child can be assigned to a kindergarten at a school, and it is better to start studying in such institutions at the indicated age, since from the first grade it is assumed that the child already knows English. Moreover, starting from the third grade, children are enrolled only on the basis of exams in English. This is done in order to find out the level of English proficiency and knowledge of subjects in English.
Enrollment in schools runs from March to the end of April. This is a very important point to pay attention to.
When you plan your move, you need to look for an area to live in such a way that the school is close. In Athens, all private English-language schools are concentrated in the northern areas, and only one is located in the south of the city. Of course, there are school buses that take children around the districts, but, you know, it’s still inconvenient if you have to go to school for a long time.
How to understand that the school provides a high level of knowledge? Especially for checking the quality of education, a system of international testing of graduates was developed, on the basis of which the school receives its score in the ranking.
Most often, children take the IB (International Bachelor Result) exam, but there is another exam – IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education), which is a less common alternative to the first one.
Schools usually publish IB test scores on their websites, but if they don’t score very well there, they either don’t publish the results at all or list the IGCSE scores.
But no matter how hard the school tries to hide its rating, at the request of the parent, it will provide the results of its students: how many of them received an A grade, how many B, and how many even lower.
It was on the basis of test results that I compiled our rating of Athens schools as the average score of the final test decreases, adding personal impressions to it.
American Community Schools (ACS Athens) – IB result 36.9
This school is affiliated with the American Consulate in Athens and is located in the Chalandri area. The school was created according to the Marshal’s plan back in 1945, and absolutely all employees of the American consulate (and it is very large in Athens), employees of the UN mission, and other American organizations pass through it.
The teaching staff at ACS does not consist entirely of native speakers, and this school has many Greek teachers, but there are a huge number of different nationalities (the school positions itself as multicultural) and they all communicate with each other in English.
There is no strict discipline in this school: children are allowed a lot, they are reprimanded only in case of real faults, and the educational process in the primary grades is more based on games and physical activities in order to develop communication skills in children. A lot of time in the primary grades is also devoted to self-presentation, which is introduced from the 1st year of school, that is, from the age of 3! Further, on its basis, oratorical skills are developed. It is believed that, along with the exact sciences, this is the most important subject for a child’s success in life.
Studying at ACS costs 10,000–12,000 euros per year, and enrolling a child costs 1,000 euros. There is no uniform in the school, the clothes of students are democratic, without expensive brands.
Catherine’s British School – IB result 36.5
This British Consulate school was established in 1956 in the Kifissia region and is one of the leading figures in the English language education in Athens.
St. Catherine’s British School is an example of the purest British education: in it everything and everyone is subject to strict rules, students wear uniforms, and first-graders start studying at the age of five.
The school is very careful about its reputation and getting into it is not so easy, despite the high cost of study. The cost of training starts from 12,000 euros, and registration in it costs 2,500 euros.
Of course, children from wealthy families study there, but the percentage of native speakers of English among the students is much smaller than in ACS.
As already mentioned, the peculiarity of the British school is discipline and a serious academic load: children there begin to learn different subjects from the first grade. The whole system is built in such a way that any child is accustomed to order, perseverance, responsibility and rules. This is a good option for those children who do not differ in self-discipline.
St Lawrence College – IGCSE result 25% A
St Lawrence College for some reason did not publish its IB results, but boasted 25% of graduates have an A* grade in IGCSE testing.
This is the only English language private school located in the south of Athens (Koripi area, close to the Airport and serves popular areas such as: the coast from Palle Faliro to Voula and Glyfada). This school is also one of the most expensive British educational institutions. Enrolling in it also costs 2,500 euros, and for studies you will have to pay from 12,000 euros and more.
St Lawrence College, although a British school, is not as strict as St. Catherine’s British School, despite the uniform and busy schedule. Also in the institution you can learn Russian as one of the foreign languages within the school, which attracts many Russian-speaking children here. In my experience, there are Russian-speaking children in every class.
This school was originally located in Glyfada (there was an American military base), but then it moved to a new area in order to expand the territory: the school now looks like a resort with small houses-halls for various activities, sports fields and recreation areas.
These three schools make up the top 3 private schools in Athens on a number of factors: they are expensive to study, but the students receive a high level of knowledge, they are located in good areas of the city and the children develop comprehensively there. But getting into them is extremely difficult: firstly, not every family will pull such a cost of study, secondly, children are accepted there with good grades and knowledge of the English language, and thirdly, it often happens that students from these schools are expelled, so they have to transfer to lower level schools.
Campion School – IB result 35
Campion School is considered small: if there are two thousand students in the above educational institutions, then no more than a thousand students go to this school.
Campion belongs to the British system, so it has both the form and the rules. Admission to the first class – from the age of 5.
Despite the severity of the British system, a small number of students creates a more relaxed atmosphere, because there all the children are in full view of the teachers and everyone gets a lot of attention from the teachers. At the same time, uniforms and training are also adopted here from the age of 5, with an emphasis on academic subjects from the first grade.
Over the past few years, Campion has made a big leap in its results: until recently they had a much lower rating, and now they occupy a leading position among the Athenian schools.
This school is located in the Palini region, studying there costs 10,000–12,000 euros per year, and you can enroll there for 1,000 euros.
ISA (International School Athens) – IB result 33.3
The ISA school has Swiss roots, although it belongs to the American system. It can be described as something between an American and a Greek bilingual school. It has fewer English-speaking staff and English-speaking children, so there is a much lower English language requirement for admission. Usually those children who could not enter the American Community School go to this school.
ISA is also a small school with the same advantages as the previous one: children are visible, there are not many students in the classes, and teachers have time to pay attention to each of them.
The school is located in the Kifissia region, the education will cost parents 12,000-14,000 euros per year, and the registration costs 2,500 euros.
Byron College (The British International School) – IB rating not published, IGCSE rating indicates that only one child out of fourteen passed A *
This British school is located in the Gerakas area and is the smallest English-speaking school in Athens . There are only two parallel streams, where only up to 20 people study in each class.
Accordingly, this school cannot be blamed for its low rating, because very few graduates were tested there.
This school is also often visited by children who do not know the language well or who are late with the enrollment deadlines.
Studying there costs 10,000–12,000 euros, and enrollment costs 1,000 euros. Uniform is obligatory for students, enrollment in the first grade is at the age of 5.
Athens also has a German-language school Deutsche Schule Athen in the Maroussi area.

AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED
We’re so proud!
Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.
SCHOOL-READY
What Learning Looks Like
Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.
Livonia KinderCare Programs
Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)
Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.
Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)
Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.
Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)
This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.
Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)
This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!
Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)
When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.
Before- and After-School Programs (5–12 Years)
You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!
School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)
Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.

Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.
Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)
Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)
STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)
You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
amazing things!
Our Teachers
We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.

Family Stories
Don’t take our word for it. Hear what our families have to say about our amazing center!
My daughter attended this KinderCare for preschool. The women there are absolutely amazing! They truly care about not only the children there, but the whole family as well. I was very nervous about putting my daughter in a daycare but they made me feel very comfortable and within a month we felt like family. When I moved and started a new job in the opposite direction I made the half hour commute to the facility to keep my daughter there.<br /> My daughter left KinderCare and started Kindergarten more than prepared for the classroom. With the help of Miss. Terry she had scored above her grade level in reading, writing and math. Miss. Terry cares about each individual child and never minded when I had a million questions. She always made it a point to pull me aside and let me know how my daughter was doing. She wasn’t just a babysitter, she really got to know my daughter and would notify my immediately when she wasn’t herself.<br /> <br /> I really can’t say enough about how amazing this place is. I obviously highly recommend it!
Amanda – KinderCare Parent
My son has been apart of Kinder Care Livonia since he was 15 months old. I have to admit that when I was looking for daycare centers to place my son, it was a stressful task. I was coming from a difficult situation where I was forced back into the workforce and forced to give up my son to daycare. I was nervous, upset, and really unwilling to place my son, but at the same time, I had no choice. My initial reaction to daycare was negative, to say the least. Why would I give up my beautiful and darling son to people I don’t know, doing God knows what, and teach my son God knows what things. However, due to my circumstance, I had to begin my search. I really stumbled upon Kinder Care by accident, and to this day, I’m so grateful for that accident. I have never met such amazing people. Ms. Katie and Ms. Maureen have been kind, respectful, helpful, and just overall amazing. All of my son’s teachers have been amazingly loving. He was never without anything, which was my biggest fear. They cared for him and showered him with praise and encouragement. Soon, I began to realize little things, like my son saying his numbers and letters and he’s not even two! He’s singing songs and he’s extremely happy. He’s never far away from love, excitement, and new experiences. I cannot express in words how much my son has learned and experienced in the past year, and I don’t ever regret putting him here. Picking Kinder Care as the place to put my son five days a week for 40 plus hours, was one of the best decisions I have never made. It was not to my son’s disadvantage, but he has advanced in ways that I could not have done on my own. I have full confidence that you will find that these women are capable and go above and beyond for all the children, especially mine! 🙂
