Back to School / School Uniforms / Dress Code
Effective August 1, 2022, the OKCPS Board of Education approved a policy which provides that all OKCPS elementary students will wear school uniforms while all OKCPS secondary students will adhere to a dress code.
Quick View Infographic >
Elementary students are required to wear student uniforms:
Tops: Solid-colored short or long-sleeved polo shirts in designated school site colors; universal district-wide color is gray.
Bottoms: Khaki, navy blue, or black uniform slacks, pants, joggers, dresses, jumpers, or skorts.
Shoes: Must wear shoes, which do not pose a safety threat to self or others.
Each site can also designate other colors to be worn, which can be found through the OKCPS Uniform Color Chart that lists the schools and their designated uniform colors.
Download Print Version >
Secondary students shall adhere to the following dress code:
Tops: Shirts that fully cover a student’s torso (includes stomach, back, and shoulders) without undergarments showing.
Bottoms: Clothing that fully covers a student from the waist down to at least mid-thigh.
Shoes: Must wear shoes that do not pose a safety threat to self or others.
Reasonable Limitations
Attire shall not be see-through, sheer, mesh, or otherwise transparent.
Pajamas and house shoes are not permitted.
Hats are not permitted in the building.
Hoodies are acceptable but hoods shall not be pulled up to cover the head.
The following symbols, mottos, words, or acronyms on decorations and/or designs imprinted upon or attached to the body or clothing are prohibited if they portray:
Crude, vulgar, profane, violent, death-oriented, gang-related, hate speech, sexually explicit, or sexually suggestive images or messages.
Advertisement of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs or drug paraphernalia.
Identification of a student as a member of a secret or overtly antisocial group or gang or an organization that professes violence or hatred toward others.
Visible tattoos or brands incompatible with the standards set forth herein shall be covered to prohibit their display.

Financial Hardship
No student shall be denied attendance at school or be otherwise penalized for failing to wear clothing that complies with the school uniform or dress code if such failure is due to financial hardship. The student or parent will share with a trusted school adult if obtaining the required uniform presents a financial burden.
Each school site shall develop procedures and criteria to offer to assist students who would have or are having difficulty complying with this policy and shall develop a program to assist students in obtaining clothes which comply. Assistance may be in various forms: recycle uniforms through trade or resell through a student or parent organization as a fundraising project, accept donations of clothing or financial assistance from the community, businesses, PTA, and other supporters, operate a clothing closet of available uniforms, or provide coupons for stores that sell or provide clothing meeting the uniform policy.
Exceptions
This policy does not apply to students using distance learning, sites where District provides educational services to students pursuant to a contract for extended educational services, or to any other sites where District personnel are not in control of the operation of the facility.
Grace Period
Students enrolling in Oklahoma City Public Schools for the first time during the school year shall be granted a grace period up to twenty (20) school days before being required to comply with the required uniform.
Enforcement
District staff shall enforce the dress code consistently and in a manner that does not reinforce or increase marginalization or oppression of any group on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, alienage, veteran, parental, family and marital status or any other basis prohibited by law that adversely affects the student.
Discipline
Students who violate this policy may be subject to discipline in accordance with the District’s Student Code of Conduct.
Extracurricular Activities
Principals, in conjunction with sponsors, coaches, or other persons in charge of extracurricular activities, may regulate dress and grooming of student participants if the principal reasonably believes that the student’s dress or grooming creates a hazard, or may prevent, interfere with, or adversely affect the purpose, direction, or effort required for the activity. Exceptions to the student uniform may be made to meet the needs of specific classes such as extracurricular activities. Additionally, principals may designate days when the student uniform does not apply.

I would not recommend this day…
I would not recommend this daycare. I took a tour and was disgusted. I also thought that the Director was rude and snobby. I did not feel welcomed.

Worried
My 2 grandchildren attend this center. My husband and I are concerned for them. Within the first month the baby (which was only 6 mos.) was bitten by another evidently older child which left a bad bite mark on her head. Why would older children be in with a baby and why was the baby left on the floor unattended. I went to pick her up one day and she was on the floor again with a toddler almost ready to step or fall on her. I had to alert the teacher. Has anyone had any bad experiences from this place? My daughter is unsure of what to do either. We need the kids kept safe.

Traveling with Children – Winter Edition
A childcare center may not be the first thing you’d expect at a ski lodge. Small World Child Care center in Mammoth Lakes, California, is equipped with everything you’d find at any daycare facility. There are cribs made up in a separate room for napping, as well as toys, face painting, a play house and other child-friendly amenities. Most providers who successfully make it through the first few years eventually start considering the idea of whether or not they could afford some help with the daycare……

The Daily Walk
Many years ago I decided to add a daily walk around our neighborhood to our morning schedule. We started out small by walking around our long block. We clocked it in the car and found that it was six-tenth of a mile. That took about seventeen to twenty minutes depending on the skill set and age of the walkers…..

Transporting Daycare Kids
I know there are many types of agreements between parents and providers when it comes to having children in the provider’s vehicle. There are parents who want it for their kids and many who pay providers to transport their child to and from school and preschool. Some providers transport their own children to school and have field trips as a major selling point of their business…….

LeBron James Museum to Open in Akron in 2023 – Basketball
In 2023, a museum dedicated to NBA superstar LeBron James will open in Akron, Ohio.
“An ordinary guy from Akron will have his own museum in his hometown,” writes Akron Beacon Journal journalist Craig Webb.
The LeBron James Museum will be part of the former Tangier entertainment complex, which will be completely renovated and renamed House Three Thirty.
The museum will occupy most of the ground floor, which will also house restaurants, bars and retail space. The museum will explore LeBron’s childhood, NBA career, and off-site activities.
LeBron James is top even at 37 because he likes to sleep for 12 hours when others go to strip clubs and tweet at night

How to pay for kindergarten through State Services
Pre-school education is not compulsory. However, most parents send their children to kindergarten in order to facilitate the process of enrolling in school in the future. Kindergarten education services are paid, but you can pay for them via the Internet.
Contents
1 Instructions for payment through the State Services of Moscow MOS.ru
2 Payment through the State Services
Instructions for payment through the State Services of Moscow MOS.ru
The most convenient payment method is regional portals. They work according to a scheme similar to the State Service portal. For residents of Moscow, the official website of the Mayor of Moscow, Mos.ru, will become such a site. After authorization in the personal account, the user can use 2 methods of paying for kindergarten.
The first method has been operating on the portal for a long time. To do this, go through the branches:
Log in with your credentials on Mos.ru
Go to “Services”
In the left or top menu, select the “Payment” item;
Education.
In the right column that opens, there will be a search bar at the top where you need to enter the name of the preschool institution. It is not necessary to correctly enter the official name, starting with the abbreviation GBOU or GBDOU. It is enough to write a name like “Sun”. You can also search by number, but a lot of different institutions are displayed for such a request.
After the parent finds the right kindergarten, under it you can see the payment functions – Payment for additional education and Additional paid services. Not all kindergartens offer both of these features on the site. To pay for the kindergarten itself, you must select the item “Payment for additional education”.
After selecting this option, the user will be redirected to the page with the payment form. Before importing the details of your own bank card, you must specify the payer. The form indicates:
Purpose and amount of payment;
Passport details of one of the parents;
Information from the child’s birth certificate;
If the child has SNILS, it is necessary to indicate its number.
After that, you need to proceed directly to the payment. After entering the bank card details, just click the “Pay” button. Next, a confirmation code will come to the mobile phone, which must be entered in the empty column that appears.
At the end of the procedure, the system will generate a receipt and save it in the user’s personal account.
Please note that the funds are credited to the account of the preschool institution within 3 days, but the debit is carried out immediately after payment.
The second method of paying for kindergarten services through the Mos.ru website is not much different. The required form for payment can be found if you go through other branches:
Catalog of services;
Education;
Preschool;
One-click payments.
As a result, a page will open where you can immediately enter bank card details. Such a feature was added recently, so sometimes it does not work, which returns the user to the first payment method.
Payment through the State Services
It is impossible to pay for kindergarten directly on the federal portal of the State Services. At the moment, the portal only supports the function of enrolling in a preschool institution and viewing the queue. However, authorization in regional portals like Mos.ru is carried out using State Services accounts. Thus, there is no need to separately register on regional portals, authorization through the State Services is acceptable.

My first daughter started at Open Arms in 2017 at 1 year old and I now have 4 kids that all go here. This is hands down, the best childcare I’ve found in Tucson! We’ve tried a couple different high rated centers due to moving around town but Open Arms has never failed to surpass my expectations and I will continue to stay here as long as I’m seeking childcare. Jimile has been the director since we started coming here and she has always been very responsive and caring to any concerns I’ve ever had. Highly recommend!

My daughter has been attending Open Arms for almost 2 years now and I am so happy with the choice we made back when she was 2 to get her into their facility. The teachers are so sweet, they genuinely care for their students and their growth in education and human interaction skills. My daughter has learned and grown so much while being there, and the added comfort of the cameras being accessible by me during my workday is incomparable. The school is clean, secure, and staffed with the best of the best. The events they put on are always a hit, and the activities they do with the kids are always so cute and educational. Thank you to all the teachers who have been there to help my daughter grow so much!!

The teachers at Open Arms are so caring and thoughtful, we just love them all. Our son is 2yo and been going since he was 8mo and our daughter is 1yo and she has been there for 6 months. Everyone is very attentive to their needs as well as ours. And the cameras are a wonderful thing, for a first time mom having to send your child to daycare, unexpectedly, this perk really helped calm my anxiety about the whole transition. I would and have recommended this center to family, friends and co-workers.

My son has learned so much recently (he already knows his lefts and rights!) and loves going to school to play with his friends. Love It !!! This preschool was the answer to my prayers. I am a first time mom and I am very particular in the environment I want my child to be in. My baby was 12 weeks when I needed child care. I went to 5 different preschools before choosing Open Arms. This location is clean, friendly, and interactive. I have always been treated with excellent customer service and they were very patient while I asked hundereds of questions about their procedures and philosophy. Open Arms has an amazing staff that helped me and my baby get accustomed to child care. I can tell the workers love what they do because the teachers are always engaging the children when I pick up my daughter. My daughter has a special bond with all her teachers so I know she is in good hands. I get a paper showing me what she did that day and being able to log in online to see her is the highlight of my day. I would recommend this day car to everyone. The previous review was done before the new director stepped in. The new director, Annette, is awesome and has given me another reason to love this school.

Open Arms is an excellent daycare with wonderful teachers, and we couldn’t be happier with our decision to send our 4yr old son and 1yr old daughter there since they were 8 weeks old. I cannot speak highly enough of Ms Doreen and Ms Amber who care for the infants at Open Arms. Their love for children is evident, and I when we moved 25 mins away we continued to make the drive back & forth every day because I wouldn’t trust anyone else to care for my babies! They have Watch Me Grow, an online live video stream of each room, as well as CPR-trained staff, giving parents comfort when leaving their kids. The director Ms Jimile is fabulous, too. Everyone is amazing, and I’m always recommending Open Arms to families looking for a daycare.

My son has been going to Open Arms since he was 12 weeks old, and we love it! The teachers and staff all greet kids by name, and they get almost as excited as the parents do when a baby reaches a new milestone. My son has been going here since he was 2 and he is now 5. The center is big enough that the kids can meet a lot of new friends, but small enough that everyone knows each kid individually. It has a very family like feel. They cook all their own meals at the center and most everything is home made and nutritious. The director is so easy to work with and very responsive to issues or concerns. My son has learned all kinds of new things and genuinely likes going to school. They have fun theme days, holiday parties, and always keep to a certain topic each month which my son comes home and tells me the things he has learned. If there are issues they are very supportive and work with the families to help the kids where they may be struggling. The teachers do really like working with the kids and there is very low turnover. We have enjoyed being a part of their center for so long it will be hard to leave when my son goes to school next year (although they do have a before and after care program as well). I highly recommend this school if you live in NW Tucson, and their hours are great for those that have to be at work early!

The absolute best infant teachers in Tucson! 👏 My kids have gone through the infant room with Ms. Doreen and they both have progressed beyond my expectations. These devoted teachers are a cut way above the rest. This school makes all families feel welcome and will specialize the needs of your kids. After researching several leading centers in town, we are soo glad we chose Open Arms. 😊 Day in and day out our children have received the best in early childhood education. If we were not treated sooo well with the infant room teachers, we would’ve left a long time ago. My husband and I are grateful for Ms. Doreen and here professionalism, honesty and expertise. Our family definitely recommends this school for your childhood education. We are soo sad to hear that Ms. Doreen will be leaving this place…. 😢 It will never be the same without her, by far. Thank you for dedication and honesty to our family “Ms D”.

I absolutely love this center. My son has been here since he was 5 months old and he progresses more every day. The teachers care about the kids and they are always going that extra mile to take care of him, nurture him, and teach him. I visited several centers and this one by far stand above the rest. I could not have asked for a better fit for my family. My daughter attended the before and after school program here as well. Let me just say that I NEVER have had an issue with her getting to school or being picked up from, like we experienced at other centers. The staff in the office (Annett and Jessica) are so easy to get along with, and they are always easy to work with. If you are looking for a good quality daycare or preschool center where your kids are going to excel- than this is the place.

Meet Our Director
Hi! My name is Kayci Hudson and I am the loving, dedicated Director of Open Arms Preschool. I consider myself blessed to be part of this amazing organization and the work that we do here. Serving as a toddler teacher when I first started at Open Arms in 2020 allowed me to develop a deep connection with early childhood education, and my deep enthusiasm for it only increased with time. Growing up in Tucson, my educational journey never felt purposeful until my involvement in Small Miracles Education showed me just how enriching, inspiring, and life-changing this field can truly be. Now, it has become my mission to provide Open Arms kids with an environment where they feel secure, engaged, and continually inspired to learn – creating remarkable memories along the way.
“My passion for this field grew into a sole mission – to provide a loving, engaging and educational environment for our kids.”

All Meals Are Provided
We are proud to be part of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). We provide breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack times throughout the day and meals are included in tuition to make sure every child has access to them. We believe that providing nutritious meals helps children have more energy for learning and gives them the fuel they need to succeed in life.
Programs
We want children as early as possible to appreciate the importance of reaching out beyond themselves and into the community. Small Miracles schools offer a range of programs for children 6 weeks to 12 years.
Infant Program
At Small Miracles, we know that a baby’s growth and development depends on individualized care and experiences. That is why we make it our focus to meet the needs of each infant. To do so, we provide our staff of caregiver educators with the tools they need to develop strong connections and trust with each baby they interact with. This trust allows the little ones to feel secure and confident enough to take part in play as well as early childhood learning activities. We are committed to providing this supportive environment, ensuring that your baby gets the best start possible.
Toddler Program
We understand that the transition to toddlerhood can be a tumultuous one. Every child is unique and has their own needs and wants that must be respected during this challenging time. With our experienced teachers, we strive to craft an environment where children can explore, learn, and make progress with self-reliance. As with all of our classrooms, we attempt to control the environment, not the little people in it. When our teachers fill the classroom with wonder and awe, children focus on reading, dancing, singing, painting, playing and so much more!
Preschool Program
This is another step on the journey of life. While want to prepare children to be successful in school, we know they will be if we take great advantage of the time we have together. Instead of pushing developmentally inappropriate lessons and activities on our children, our teachers work to plan for each child’s needs – whether they are learning to hold a pencil, write their name, learn conflict resolution skills and so much more. We know that children who experience child centered environments perform better in elementary school and in life. This confidence pushed us to offer the very best.
Before & After-School Program
A great way to keep your kids active and learning outside of school hours. Parents can take advantage of our before & after-school program and give their kids an engaging experience outside of the classroom. From exploring the creative arts, to playing spirited sports, to getting that much-needed homework help, there’s something for everyone. Plus, we provide the convenience of transportation to and from schools, so parents don’t have to worry about a hectic schedule. Transportation is provided to and from local schools and our classrooms are open all day on school holidays.

Tucson is a city in the state of Arizona, in the southwestern United States . Travelers come here to stroll through the unique historic quarter with buildings of Spanish architecture or the Saguaro Nature Reserve. Tourists also come to Raleigh to visit the rocket museum with a “cemetery” of aircraft and spaceships. And in turn, relocators move here, as the city is one of the fastest growing in America. An important role in the city’s economy is played by high-tech industries, including military ones. Tucson is especially popular with students, as it hosts the state’s largest educational institution and the city’s major employer, the University of Arizona.
The climate is steppe with very hot summers and mild winters. Usually the daytime temperature from December to February is around +20°C, and at night it almost never drops below +3°C. In summer, the thermometer usually fluctuates around + 38 ° C … + 40 ° C.
The city is served by Tucson International Airport, where you can fly from the capital of Russia with 2 transfers (for example, in Istanbul and Los Angeles). The city is also conveniently connected by rail with the nearest cities. So, you can get here from Los Angeles by train in 9,5 o’clock.
You can rent a one-room apartment with a good repair here from 650 – 700 $ per month.

Bradley Denton (full name – Bradley Clayton Denton / Bradley Clayton Denton) was born in June 1958 in Towanda, Kansas. Parents – Charles W. Denton and Virginia Denton. Bradley is the eldest of three brothers.
Denton says that he learned to read even before kindergarten, and around the age of five he wrote and illustrated some of his first stories, the heroes of which were talking cars.
Bradley went to elementary school in Valley Center, Kansas and read a lot and avidly. Then his favorite books were children’s detectives from the Happy Hollisters series and Donald A. Wollheim’s fantasy cycle Mike Mars, Astronaut. Then came the turn of “Uprising on Alpha-C”. Denton recalls reading every non-fiction book and magazine he could get his hands on. He was especially interested in astronomy. In the eighth grade, he became interested in the “youthful” novels of Robert Heinlein, as well as the books of Jules Verne.
In 1976, Bradley Denton graduated from Circle High School in Towanda, Kansas, and enrolled at the University of Kansas, Laurence, in the fall of that year. At first he planned to get a bachelor of science degree in astronomy and continue to study this science, but by the end of his first year at the university he realized that if he loved the night sky, he would not necessarily love the advanced mathematics necessary for doing real science. At the same time, he found that his love for literature and writing only increased. So in his second year, Bradley chose a second specialization for himself – literature. Two years later, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in astronomy and English.
In June 1979, Bradley met his future wife in Laurens, nineteen-year-old business school student Barbara Eggleston. Barb was also from Kansas, from an old farming family, and she also had Czech roots (on her father’s side). Bradley Denton recalls telling her during a meeting that he was dual majoring in literature and astronomy, and Barb said that he was probably going to write science fiction, and when he confirmed this, she agreed that it was a great idea. Barbara and Bradley announced their engagement eight weeks later. They got married on August 1980 years.
In March 1984, Bradley Denton’s debut short story “The Music of the Spheres” was published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. This story was one of several written as a graduate work for a course taught by James Gunn. This event was the culmination of Denton’s academic career and the beginning of his journey as a professional writer. In 1986, his first novel, Wrack & Roll, was published, a science fiction set in an alternate world. His second novel, Buddy Holly Is Alive and Well on Ganymede, won the Campbell Memorial Award at 1992 (Best SF Novel) and The Calvin Coolidge Home for Dead Comedians / A Conflagration Artist, a double collection, won the 1995 World Fantasy Award. In July 2005, his novel Sergeant Chip won the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award. Brad is currently working on several short stories and a new novel.
It has been nearly twenty years since the Dentons moved to Austin. They still live in Texas, in their own house on the outskirts of Austin. The Dentons celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to the Czech Republic in the fall of 2005.
IN TEXAS – Our Texas – Russian Newspaper in Houston, Dallas, San-Antonio, Austin, Texas
ANNOUNCEMENT OF NATURAL DISASTER DECLARATION storm last week, which caused extensive property damage, dangerous train and aircraft disruptions and local power outages. The disaster declaration includes Denton, Hays, Henderson, Milam, Smith, Travis, and Williamson counties. Additional counties may be added to the declaration as the damage assessment is completed.
At the direction of Governor Abbott, and in support of local authorities’ requests for assistance, damaged infrastructure repairs, trash disposal, and damage assessments are ongoing. This week, the Governor encouraged Texans to report damage to homes and businesses from the ice storm using the Texas Individual Assessment Tool (iSTAT). The iSTAT Damage Survey can be completed online in English and Spanish by visiting Damage.tdem.texas.gov and clicking Ice Storm/Winter Weather 29January is ongoing.
Detailed information and photographs included in iSTAT Damage Reports help Emergency Management officials determine whether a state meets federal requirements for additional disaster relief.
The information provided also assists officials in determining resource requirements. Reporting a claim using the iSTAT survey is voluntary and does not replace reporting a claim to your insurance agency. This does not guarantee disaster relief.
IF YOUR PROPERTY DAMAGED IN A WINTER STORM
Last week, icing caused trees and large branches to fall in areas of North and Central Texas. If the damage is to your property, you may consider filing an insurance claim.
What should be done?
First, consider whether the cost of repairing or replacing the property covered by your policy is more than your down payment (deductible).
If so, Ben Gonzalez, spokesman for the Texas Insurance Department, recommends filing a claim immediately and documenting everything.
List all damaged property. You can also take photos or videos with your phone. Just walk around and show how much damage has been done.
Make temporary repairs where necessary. For example, if part of your fence has been torn down, fix it so the dog doesn’t run away. Also, take reasonable steps to prevent further damage.
For example, you need to close any broken windows or holes in the roof or things like skylights to keep rain out. Use plywood, a tarp, or whatever to cover these holes. You should also remove wet furniture or rugs from your home to prevent mold from growing inside, but don’t throw them away until your insurance company tells you to.
For any repairs you make, be sure to keep your receipts to add to your insurance claim.
Some insurance policies may cover temporary living expenses if your home is uninhabitable. Some cover the cost of food spoilage. Tree removal may be covered if the tree has fallen on your home or is blocking access to your home, such as if it has fallen on your driveway. Homeowners insurance or comprehensive car insurance can cover a tree falling on your car.
Will filing a claim affect insurance prices in the future? Gonzalez said filing a single weather-related incident claim would have a minimal impact on your insurance rates, though they could increase if you’ve filed multiple claims over the past few years.
TEXAS CHINA-LINKED COMPANY GRANT
The Biden administration’s decision to award a $200 million grant to Texas-based battery maker Microvast over its China ties is being scrutinized. Senators on both sides questioned the Biden administration’s decision.
Stafford-based Microvast plans to build a battery plant in Tennessee in partnership with US automaker General Motors, but currently manufactures batteries at a plant in China.
At a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing, Senator John Barrasso, Wyoming, questioned whether a grant would benefit the Chinese battery industry, pointing to a 2021 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in which Microvast stated, “We may not be able to protect our intellectual property rights in the People’s Republic of China.”
In order to operate in China, the government often requires foreign companies to cooperate with Chinese enterprises. Senator Joe Manchin, D-W.V. , chairman of the committee, asked Deputy Energy Secretary David Turk what steps the administration is taking to protect US energy interests.
The issue of Microvast’s ties to China follows an attack by Republicans in the House of Representatives late last year on the Biden administration, in which they accused officials of supporting “pro-China policies” by pointing to a Microvast grant, as well as a report from the Department of Commerce that found that Chinese companies are circumventing U.S. tariffs on solar panels by routing their supply chains through Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
After the hearing, Manchin told reporters that he was concerned that Chinese interests might own some of Microvast, even if the company still passed government scrutiny.
SNAP ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Governor Greg Abbott announced Feb. 6 that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will provide more than $345.9 million in food benefits through the Emergency Supplemental Nutrition Program (SNAP). ) for February as a final extension of benefits.
Congress recently passed legislation making February 2023 the last month that SNAP eligible households can receive emergency benefits. The allotments are expected to help about 1.6 million Texas households.
HHSC has received USDA federal approval to expand the maximum allowable SNAP benefit amount for recipients based on family size. All SNAP households will receive at least $95 for emergencies. This additional emergency allocation must appear in recipient accounts by February 28th.
In accordance with federal legislation passed by Congress, recipients will no longer receive additional benefits, and this benefit change cannot be appealed.
SNAP households can find out what their regular monthly benefit will be without emergency benefits by logging into their YourTexasBenefits.com account or mobile app. They can also call 2-1-1 option 2 for information.
SNAP, administered by HHSC, is a federal program that provides food assistance to eligible low-income families and individuals in Texas. Texans who need help can apply for benefits, including SNAP and Medicaid, at YourTexasBenefits.com or use the Your Texas Benefits mobile app to manage their benefits.
TEXAS VIEWS DIFFERENT
A new survey aimed to gauge public opinion among Texans on a number of controversial topics that could make it to the state legislature’s list this year, such as gender-sensitive child care and the definition of marriage in The Texas Constitution.
A survey conducted by the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs found that Texans’ views varied greatly by party affiliation and demographic factors. For example, when asked about legislation proposed by State Representative Brian Slaton that would classify any gender-affirming care given to children who do not match their birth sex as child abuse, 57% of Texans expressed support. It was this particular proposal that received very strong support among Republicans and very strong opposition among Democrats.
The two most controversial questions in the survey were about confederate public holidays and the teaching of critical race theory at the college level.
55% of Texans support the abolition of Confederate Heroes’ Day, which now falls annually on January 19 and honors Confederate leaders such as General Robert E. Lee, as an official public holiday. In addition, a sizable minority of Texans – 48% – support a law that would strip public college and university professors of a permanent position if they teach critical racial theory.
Meanwhile, some results show that Texans have common positions along party lines. For example, 67% of Texans support a law that requires every school district in Texas to offer ethnic studies as required by the curriculum.
Most Republicans, as well as Democrats, supported a law by Rep. Tom Oliverson of Houston that would require publishers selling books to Texas public schools to include content ratings similar to those used for movies.
Finally, a majority of Texans supported changing the definition of marriage in the Texas Constitution so that marriage is no longer defined as a union between one man and one woman.
Future reports will look at support for legislation regulating marijuana, abortion, firearms, elections, immigration, and energy.
PROPERTY TAX REDUCTION FOR TENANTS
When it comes to figuring out what factors affect the value of an apartment, there are several well-known indicators among tenants: area, location, age of the complex.
For rental property owners, the calculation is slightly different. Things like insurance, repairs, mortgage payments, and payroll costs play a big role in managing rental properties, and according to a study by the National Apartment Association, the biggest factor of all is property taxes, accounting for up to 40% of all operating expenses.
When property taxes go up, homeowners often raise their rent in response. Of course, property owners always have the option to sell their property if taxes (or any other costs) become too burdensome, but the difficulty is that someone else comes to buy this property, and if they are going to maintain it as a rental property, they are still under the same pressure of those operating costs that translate into rent.
Generous property tax breaks can help landlords defer further rent increases.
The Texas Legislature is in session again, and the most important issue on the legislators’ agenda right now is figuring out what to do with the $32 billion budget surplus, and the issue with the most support is property tax exemption. Initial budget proposals from the Texas House of Representatives and the Senate allocated $15 billion for property tax relief.
WHY TEXAS IS SO HIGH REAL ESTATE TAXES
Homeowners in Texas pay some of the highest property taxes in the country. And state legislators know it. Now that they’re back in session, they’ve promised to partly solve the problem by spending $15 billion on property tax relief.
But why are taxes so high?
The answer is simple. Property taxes in Texas are so high because that’s the price we pay for having no income tax in our state.
Government tax systems are commonly viewed as a three-legged stool: one leg is property tax, the second leg is sales tax, and the third leg is personal income tax. But Texas is one of nine states, including Alaska and Florida, where there is no personal income tax. In fact, it never existed in Texas.
There is almost no chance that this will change. In fact, in 2019, lawmakers made it even harder to implement an income tax—it would now take two-thirds of the Legislature to approve it, as well as voter support in a statewide referendum.
Dick Lavin, senior tax analyst at the leftist think tank Every Texan, said property taxes account for about 50% of all taxes Texans pay each year.
Half of the property tax money raised goes to the state’s public schools. The rest goes to cities, counties, and special areas such as hospital or college districts.

History
First United Methodist Church in Moscow, Idaho
The city was founded in 1871 by miners and farmers who began to arrive in northern Idaho after the Civil War. The first names of the city were Hog Heaven , from 1872 (when the post office opened) Paradise Valley , and from 1875 modern Moscow .
The exact origin of the city’s name is still debated. There is no evidence that this name was given by a Russian inhabitant or by the name of the capital of Russia. It is known that the first settlers for a long time could not agree among themselves on the name of the city. Postmaster Samuel Neff ( Samuel Neff ) then signed official papers for the city and chose the name Moscow. Interestingly, Neff himself was born in Moscow (a city in Pennsylvania) and later moved to another Moscow (Iowa) [2] .
The local university was founded in January 1889 and first opened to students in October 1892 [3] .

City of professions Sber Kids City
Everything is on top
A good, polite girl works at the checkout, explains everything, benevolent, after at the entrance the same benevolent girl punched through the cards, they are nominal and we (mother and child) went to the city of professions, I share! At the entrance, we were greeted by mentors (employees of the city of professions) with a smile and were very pleasantly greeted and explained what and how it works, if there are any questions, they will definitely tell and show everything right away, they asked where the child wants first and led to this profession. We approached the “Veterinary” there, met the mentor and with joy, in a great mood, with a smile punched the child’s card and took him to the lesson, this was the case in all subsequent professions, if the parents wanted to take a picture of the child, this is possible and some mentors offer to go into the office of the profession and take a picture of a child there, well, great of course! Then, if a child wants to enter some profession, but there are more children than they need, the mentors agree and take the child there, I think it’s just super! Children do not sit waiting anywhere for more than 3-7 minutes, it’s just wonderful! There is not one profession where there is payment for parental money, all payments are only for “likes” well, this is just super, very cool!!! If a child does not know where to go for what profession, mentors come up to the child and suggest where to go. I also saw that the child was crying (the parent was nearby), three mentors ran up to him, asked what happened, reassured him and took him to any profession that he named, they brought him there and he is engaged, stunned, the level of leadership, the professionalism of the mentors is just on top!!! I have never seen such a profession in any city. There is pleasant music all day, both parents and children and mentors dance to it, because the music is not intrusive, it plays quietly quietly, between the music the children and the mentor play in the radio station, well, all this is pleasant to listen to during the day, great! All children (no matter how many there are) are busy in professions, only parents are waiting for their children, in a pleasant, calm environment. There are no queues anywhere, neither among children, nor among parents, it’s just wonderful! You can eat once with your child. There is a bakery profession, ice cream, cotton candy, popcorn, juice, all this can be eaten after the lesson for both children and parents. There is a flash mop. These mentors go to the central hall and dance with children to cool music, it looks very funny and pleasant! I have never seen such a profession in any other city. In almost every profession, something is given to children. For example: “construction” gave out a coloring book, pencils, a sharpener, a “greenhouse” flower, in a “curry” shoe (made of paper), etc. You can take a photo for yourself, if you wish, there are two photographers (a girl and a guy) 800 rubles PC. (In my opinion, the girl makes the photo better, I liked her work more, but the guy photographed us, it didn’t work out very well, but we bought 1 piece for ourselves. The photographers are very polite, attentive, kind. There is a fair there for “likes” you can give something to the child buy. There is a cafe.Professions work 99% all. Of all the professions, I saw 2 pieces that did not work. Situated on 2 floors. Quiet, cozy environment. The mentors of the girl and the guys are just wonderful, I give them 100% for their professionalism! Kind, sympathetic, attentive, always smiling, solve any issue, well, just great!!! I want more and more professions in this city!!! It works from 12 to 19 in the literal sense right up to the closing. City of professions at its best.
Canada is looking for a defensive balance for Sochi
Steve Yzerman is building a hockey team.
Canada’s Olympic team chief executive spoke about this several times this week after the coaches were named and the team’s extended roster was announced for the end of August in Calgary.
“We’re not putting together an All-Star team, we’re building a team that can compete against the best hockey players in the world for the gold medal,” Yzerman said on Monday. “And this, in part, means that we have to select players who would play specific roles.”
Ideally, when building a team, it should have three defenders with the right grip and three with the left. However, for the first time since the NHL began sending its players to the Olympics, the defense of the Canadian team may be somewhat skewed in one direction and not in the direction that most people think about.
Finding a defender who holds the stick to the right is a major problem for most teams. Of the 290 defensemen who played at least one game in the NHL last season, 180 shot from the left (62%).
But when it comes to potential defenders for the Canadian team at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, there are a lot of elite players with a right grip. Drew Doughty, Chris Letang, Alex Pietrangelo, Brent Seabrook, PK Subban and Shea Weber hold the stick to the right. Yzerman wants to lead 8 defense players to Sochi and this could be a problem.
Duncan Keith is possibly the only left-handed player who is guaranteed a spot on the roster.
“I like the prospect of two left and right guards, but that’s not the main goal,” Yzerman said. “Ultimately, those who play better will go there.”
Previously at the Olympics, Canada has found a balance between defenders who hold the stick on the right side and those who shoot on the left side.
In 1998 Nagano had 4 right-handers (Rob Blake, Eric Desjardins, Adam Foote and Al McInnis) and 3 left-handers (Ray Burke, Chris Pronger and Scott Stevens). Four years later, four left-handers (Eric Brewer, Ed Jovanovsky, Scott Niedermayer and Pronger) and three right-handers (Blake, Foote and McInnis) went to Salt Lake City. In Vancouver in 2010, there were 4 left-handers (Dan Boyle, Doughty, Seabrook and Weber) and 3 left-handers (Keith, Niedermayer and Pronger).
The exception was Turin 2006, when Team Canada had five left-handers (Jay Bowmister, Brian McCabe, Pronger, Wade Redden and Robin Regier) and two right-handers (Blake and Foote). In Turin, Canada performed the worst, finishing in seventh place, but this is most likely just a coincidence.
“I can’t guarantee that out of 8 defenders, 4 will be right-handed and 4 left-handed,” Yzerman said. “I really think there are some advantages to having right-handers and left-handers in the same pair. In larger venues, this factor is less important, there is more time to pass the ball. So we will take this circumstance into account but it won’t be the deciding factor.
Despite Yzerman’s statement, he pointed to examples where the defender’s grip was completely ignored.
“All defenders of the Russian national team in the 80s and early 90s held the stick to the left,” said the director. “And the teams were winning.”
17 players have been invited to the Olympic training camp, which will be held in Calgary from August 25-28.
