Vladimir Grigoryevich Suteev (July 5, 1903 – March 8, 1993) – one of the founders of Soviet animation, children’s writer, illustrator and animation director.
Suteev did not immediately start writing his fairy tales. He worked as a cartoonist for a long time and illustrated fairy tales of other writers. But, fortunately, he decided to create his own works. The stories are good and educational. Without strict morality, they explained to the kids what is good and how not to behave. Vladimir Grigoryevich accompanied his fairy tales with a large number of illustrations, which made them look like cartoons on paper!
Mothers begin to acquaint children with Suteev’s fairy tales already after a year. Kids easily catch the plot of the work, even without knowing how to read. Each episode of the tale is carefully drawn, every detail is interesting. The main characters of fairy tales – animals, become favorite characters and make readers fall in love with themselves.
Suteev’s tales are still relevant and are reprinted in huge numbers. You can see for yourself by getting acquainted with the best works of the author on our website. And then be sure to buy a book, it will become your baby’s favorite!

Farewell to First Class

Sections:

Extracurricular activities

Leader:

The holiday begins, the guests smile,
And the children will try today to show
Everything you learned, everything you aspired to,
Because there is a lot to be said.

Teacher:
Dear children, dear adults, today is an unusual day for all of us, we say goodbye to the 1st grade. Almost a year ago, on a clear, sunny day, you first came to this school, to this class. Then you were very young: you didn’t know much and didn’t know how to do much.

1st student:

We were preschoolers,
We went to kindergarten,
We made clay
Both horses and rabbits.

2nd student:

And now, now
The school opened the door for us,
The school accepted us,
Admitted to first class.

3rd student:

First time in class
Now I am a student.
The teacher entered the class –
Get up or sit down?
They tell me – go to the blackboard –
I raise my hand,
And how to hold a chalk in your hand,
I don’t understand at all.
I am in class for the first time,
Now I am a student.
I sit correctly at my desk,
Although I can’t sit.

4th student :

We learned letters, wrote syllables,
And folded the syllables into whole words…
After – in a sentence, suddenly surprisingly
It turned out a miracle: “Motherland, Moscow!”

5th student:

And then “MA-MA” (the one that washes the frame),
“Children are playing ball. River, sky, forest!
And they also read in the program themselves:
Will be on the screen “Field of Wonders”.

6th student :

I will write in a notebook (not for the sake of evaluation)
I will solve the letters of the alphabet and an example.
I am now with my mother (the one who washes the frame)
So as not to be distracted, I do not ask for help!

7th student:

Laughter and tears, joy and sadness
For the year we had a chance to experience,
But we are not sorry for our efforts –
Books are easy for us to read now!

Teacher: But how you carefully read the books, we will now find out.

Quiz on read works “Name the fairy tale”.

“…I am the great washbasin,
The famous Moidodyr,
Wash basin head
And the commander’s washcloths…”
(K. I. Chukovsky “Moydodyr”)

“… The island lies on the sea,
Hail on the island stands:
With golden-domed churches,
With towers and gardens…”
(A.S. Pushkin “The Tale of Tsar Saltan…”)

“… Only suddenly from the dark thicket
A homeless wolf dragged himself.
Knocked at the gate,
He sings in a hoarse voice…”
(S. Marshak “Teremok”)

8th student:

We taught with you, friends,
Our alphabet from A to Z…
There is great power in letters,
when we can read them.

9th student:

How good it is to be able to read!
You don’t have to go to your mom.
No need to shake your grandmother:
“Read, please! Read!”
You don’t have to beg your sister.
Don’t Call,
No need to wait,
And you can take
And read!

Teacher:
I know that many of you are most fond of reading fairy tales, and I hope that the next task will be up to you. You must determine the name of the fairy tale, the hero and the author of the fairy tale.

He is kinder than everyone in the world,
He heals sick animals,
And once a hippopotamus
Pulled out of the swamp,
He is famous, famous, This is a doctor …
(Aibolit) K. Chukovsky

Grandmother loved the girl very much,
I gave her a red cap,
The girl forgot her name,
Can you tell me what her name was?
(Little Red Riding Hood) C. Perrault

He loves everyone invariably,
Who would come to him.
Guessed? This is Gena,
This is Gena…
(Crocodile) E. Uspensky

Father had a strange boy,
Nice, wooden,
And the father loved his son –
Shalunishka …
(Pinocchio).

Teacher: Well done. During this year, you have learned not only to read correctly, but also got acquainted with many rules of grammar or the Russian language.

10th student:

You will be a glorious student,
If you start writing with a capital
And take into consideration
End the sentence with a dot.

11th student :

Do not forget and other signs:
Comma, ellipsis…
Punctuation marks
We need it like breathing.

12th student:

In combination JI-SHI
Just and always write.
In combinations CHA-SCHA
We write only the letter A.

Teacher: Why can’t we do without grammar?

13th student:

Grammar, Grammar –
Science is very strict!
Grammar textbook
I always take with anxiety,
She is difficult, but without her
Life would be bad.

14th student:

Do not create a telegram
And don’t send a postcard,
Even my own mother
Don’t wish happy birthday.

Teacher: Well done, you know the rules! Would you like to play?

Mindfulness game .

(Children answer each teacher’s question in chorus: “It’s me, it’s me, these are all my friends!”)

  1. Who walks to school like a merry gang every day?
  2. How many of you come to class an hour late?
  3. Which of you keeps books, pens and notebooks in order?
  4. Which one of you kids is dirty up to your ears?
  5. Which of you does not walk gloomy, loves sports and physical education?
  6. Which of you decorates the classroom and the house with your work?
  7. Who, I want to know from you, likes to sing and dance?

Master:

Mathematics is difficult,
But I will say with respect:
Math Needed
Everyone without exception.

Teacher:
Yes, today it is impossible to do without mathematics. Let’s show what we have already learned.

Fun puzzles

  1. One, two, three, four,
    Who lives in our apartment?
    Dad, mom, brother, sister,
    Murka cat, two kittens,
My puppy, cricket and me –
    That’s my whole family. (10)

  2. Natasha has a doll Masha
    Pasha’s teddy bear
    Tanya has a cat
    Zhenya has three nesting dolls
    Two horses at Pavlushka
    Ilyusha has three cars
    You try to count
The kids have all the toys. (11 toys)

  3. A fox was walking along the path
    And she carried
    in her basket
    Five mushrooms, three chanterelles,
    Seven nuts, mittens,
    Boletus, sheet
    And a wide belt.
Do you have an answer ready?
How many mushrooms are in the basket? (9 mushrooms. )

Teacher: Well done!!! And sometimes in the lessons we had this:

15th student:

Once my friend and I were the best
So tired – no strength:
At recess in a small pile
I messed with a friend.

16th student:

We fell asleep at the lesson.
The desk is softer than the bed.
We yawned so that the cheekbones
There was no one to lead.

17th student:

Ah, teacher, what have you done?
He did not utter a word
And, without delving into the essence of the matter,
I called my dad right away.

18th student:

Oh, what a thrashing came out,
Oh, what a scolding!
This is hardly the best way
Understand the soul of a child!

19th student:

If the lesson time is
Very slow flow,
We, forgetting the strict textbook,
We draw what comes to mind,

20th student:

On a notebook and on a map,
On the board and on the wall,
On a briefcase and on a desk,
Neighbor on the back.

21st student:

Sabers, sea combat, guitars,
Wolf, seven kids,
Knights from old movies –
We draw everything.

22nd student :

To quickly solve the problem
Our brains thought,
We chew packs of gum,
What’s tastier than pies.

23rd student:

We are tired of learning.
Ah, I wish I had a day off.
Soon all the suffering will end!
Mom, I want to go home!

Master:

A ringing bell will call for a lesson,
He’s like a teacher’s voice is strict.
Calm down, pacify the naughty,
And when his friend calls,
Prankster friend, call from class,
That will happen!!!

Teacher:

Change, change,
Climbs 1″A” on the wall.
– Very friendly 1 “B”
The whole is on the head.
– Well, 1 “D” and “B”
They sit on the pipe.
– Change, change,
Dancing on the right, fighting on the left.
Polina squeals merrily
Nastya screams joyfully.
– Change, change,
Nothing to do with children.
Like mice in a cramped cage
Back and forth the kids are running.
– Noise and din is all around,
There is dust in the corridor,
In the classroom between the desks, tacking,
Roman is chasing Sonya .
– Only once again the bell will ring
And he will invite everyone to the lessons,
The teacher is looking, only here is
She does not recognize students.
– Wet hair, tousled look,
A drop of sweat runs down the neck.
Maybe Pasha, Denis, Alexei
Did you dive into the pool the whole time?
Or were they plowed on, the unfortunate ones?
Or were they shoved into the mouth of a crocodile?
No. During recess they rested.
“The days passed quickly after each other.
Lessons, breaks, days, weeks.
Here is the first class left behind.
From today second graders we.

24th student:

First class!
first time
A year ago you accepted us.
We moved to the second
And we say goodbye to you.
It was hard for us, believe me,
Read, write and draw.
Sometimes it didn’t work,
I had to cry too.

25th student:

Second class!
Second class!
Receive us soon!
Goodbye, first!
Got on our nerves!
We say goodbye and dance,
We don’t cry, we sing,
Because failure
We leave in the first!
And how will we go to school,
Let’s not be lazy,
We promise, dear ones,
Study well!

So our school year is over,
Don’t call us “first-graders”.

Essential Camping Tips For Beginners – Camping in the Forest

We’ve gathered all of our resources, asked our experts and scoured our archives to bring you the most epic list of camping tips on the internet. Whether you’re new to camping and haven’t got a clue where to start, or a seasoned camper looking to improve your set up, this is a must-read.

In this guide:

  • General camping tips
  • Cooking and food tips
  • Tent tips
  • Sleeping tips
  • Clothing tips

1. Always plan for bad weather

The weather in the UK is notoriously unpredictable. We recommend packing:

  • Plenty of warm layers
  • A warm hat
  • Waterproof clothing
  • Sun protection
  • Insect repellent

2. Check the weather forecast

Despite it not always being accurate, checking the weather forecast will give you a good idea of what to prepare for.

3. Plan your activities in advance

You can view our things to do for the area you’re camping in before leaving home. These suggestions are perfect for planning your days on and off the campsite before you arrive. From visiting top UK attractions to enjoying the forest on these walking and cycling trails, there’s so much to do.

4. There’s nothing wrong with being over-prepared

Sure, packing light is handy. However, you won’t know what you really need until you’ve been camping a few times. Don’t listen to anyone that tells you that you’ve packed too much. It’s fine to be prepared for all situations until you can put together your own, personalised list of essentials to pack.

5. Look out for camping sales

Out of season sales are a great way to save money on camping kit and accessories. Look out for these over the low season to see if you can bag some bargains. Remember to do your research before investing to make sure you’re paying the best price available.

6. Take a first aid kit

Fingers crossed you won’t need to use it, but having the basics to clean and bandage a wound will be invaluable if you or someone you’re with does have an accident. If you’re camping with a dog, taking a separate first aid kit is a great idea.

7. Use a packing list before setting off

There are endless camping packing lists available online. You can find our expert-led list of camping essentials here to get you started.

8. Don’t pitch up under a tree

Although it can make for a great photo opportunity, pitching up under a tree can pose a few issues. Trees in high wind can become a real hazard with falling branches very likely to cause damage to your unit. It’s also really annoying having to clean tree sap off or bird mess off of your tent.

9. Don’t forget about lighting!

Consider whether you’d prefer a hand-held torch or a headlight for trips to the facilities after dark. Check if there’s a convenient place in your unit to hang a lantern, if not you may need to get a free-standing light.

10. Pack a portable charger

You’ll most likely run out of battery on your phone during your trip and it’d be a shame not to be able to snap your memorable moments. Many campsites offer electric pitches and phone charging facilities but having a portable option while you’re away from the campsite can be useful.

11. Prioritise entertainment

Books, board games, cards and outdoor games are all options for staying entertained on the campsite. For some outdoor, camping friendly ideas, view our camping game ideas for kids and adults.

12. Leave your tech at home

Signal can be variable in rural camping locations so online streaming can be hit and miss. Taking a phone for accessing online maps, contacting people and taking pictures is fine but leave the rest of the tech (and the stress) at home.

13. Pack a small table and some chairs

You’ll miss basic items of furniture when you’re camping. Having a chair and table, a place to set your tea down and enjoy your meals is a great way to make your unit feel a little more like home.

14. Give kids something to do while you pitch up

Arriving on your chosen campsite is an exciting moment. However, the mood can sometimes be ruined with kid’s boredom while adults are busy setting up the camping area. Give older kids helpful jobs to do and plan fun activities younger kids can do without assistance while you’re busy setting up.

15. Make use of your membership

As a Camping and Caravanning Club member, you’ll have access to a whole host of benefits. Exclusive offers throughout the year, retail discounts and a dedicated team of technical experts to offer support are just a few of the perks that you get with your annual fee. If you’re new to camping, find out about joining the club here.

16. Make your set up twinkle with fairy lights

Fairy lights make great, affordable lighting inside your unit. They’ll also help to create a lovely, relaxing atmosphere.

17. Take your own toilet paper

If you’re staying on a campsite that doesn’t guarantee toilet paper, make sure you take your own. You can keep it in a reusable sealable bag to save on space if needed. Many campers take anti-bacterial wipes and wet wipes so they’re always prepared for the facilities block.

18. Reuse your plastic bags

Camping is a great way of reusing any plastic bags you have. Use them for waterproofing items, storing dirty clothes, carrying items from the campsite shop and much more. Just remember to reuse them as many times as you can!

19. Pack your car in an order

Put your tent and any other essentials you may need to grab while you’re pitching up in the car last. This means they’ll be the first things you can grab when you arrive on your chosen campsite.

20. Pack earplugs

This is a great tip, just in case you find yourself with noisy neighbours or unused to the sounds of the great outdoors while you’re trying to sleep. Most campsites will have rules around noise levels after a certain time of night. Pack a pair of earplugs and you’ll always be able to sleep soundly.

21. Check your campsites rules

Most campsites will have a set of guidelines you’ll be required to follow. This is for the safety and comfort of everyone on the campsite. You can read our campsite rules here.

22. Don’t leave valuables unattended

Unfortunately, there are opportunistic people around, and you’ll need to be vigilant with your valuables. Use your common sense and don’t leave things unattended. If you’re leaving the campsite for the day, take any valuables with you and always remember to lock up your bikes.

23. No two campsites are the same

It’s great if you find a favourite site to visit regularly but do explore other campsites to get a feel of the different options available.

24. First timer? Borrow some kit to get you started

Your first time camping is all about getting a feel for the great outdoors and experiencing the freedom it brings. To save on initial outlay, try to borrow kit from friends or family. You can also get many second-hand items in a great condition online.

25. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

When you’re on your campsite, there’s bound to be something you have questions about. Don’t be afraid to ask site staff or fellow campers for help. The camping community’s full of friendly faces and everyone remembers what it’s like starting out.

26. Respect neighbours privacy

Feel free to say good morning to your neighbours but know when to keep to yourself. Some campers will be up for socialising but many will keep to themselves, preferring to relax on their pitch in private.

27. Prepare for camping with your dog

There are certain things you’ll need to pack and jobs you’ll need to do before you leave home if you’re taking your four-legged friend camping. View our dog-friendly holiday tips here.

28. Choose somewhere close to home for your first camping trip

There’s always a chance that you’ll forget something, experience terrible weather or even decide you want to go home early on your first trip. Choosing a campsite not too far away from home allows you to make a quick return or go back to pick something up that you’ve forgotten.

29. Take wet wipes

Drink spills, mud and messy kids can all be resolved with the help of a wet wipe. Keeping your camping area clean is a vital part of being able to enjoy your camping trip. Just make sure you look out for biodegradable options.

30. Never cook inside your tent

Cooking inside your tent, under an awning or right next to your tent poses an extreme fire risk. You should always cook in an open space, clear of any potential obstructions or fire risks. Burning any type of fuel in a non-ventilated space means you’re also at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Take the safe route and brave cooking outside no matter what the weathers doing.

31. Collect and dispose of any food waste responsibly

Food waste and packaging can get blown around by the wind, littering the campsite and causing unnecessary damage to the environment. To prevent harm to wildlife and unhappy neighbours, dispose of any rubbish in the campsite bins.

32. Plan your meals before you go

Cooking on a campsite is much easier when you know exactly what you’re making and have all of the ingredients you need. Check out our camping recipes for some inspiration.

33. Set up a hand washing area

If you’re camping in a tent, it’s a good idea to set up a hand washing station next to your cooking area so you don’t have to walk back and forth to the facilities block. Hand sanitizer is handy to have around but try not to use it in place of soap and water!

34. Pack plenty of snacks

Whipping up a quick bite to eat on a campsite can take longer than it would in your home, so make sure you have plenty of easy to grab snacks around to tide you over.

35. Take reusable water bottles

Avoid plastic waste by taking a reusable bottle for each person you’re camping with. You can fill your bottle up on the campsite and take it with you when you go out for the day. Stainless steel bottles are great at keeping drinks hot or cold all day.

36. Use your old tea towels

Got a tea towel that’s past its best at home? Use that for your camping trip. Anything you take camping with you is bound to get a little worn so don’t take new versions of something you already have.

37. Take a few meal options that don’t need cooking

Bad weather, a broken camping stove or exhaustion after a long day away from the campsite are all reasons you may not want to cook at the end of the day. Pack a few options that need no or minimal cooking so you can give yourself a break.

38. Prep food before you leave

You can chop vegetables, pre-mix pancake batter and crack eggs before you leave home to save you a bit of time on the campsite.

39. Test your camping stove before each trip

It’s always a good idea to check your cooking equipment’s in working order before leaving home to avoid any setbacks once you arrive on your campsite. View our easy camping stove meals for some inspiration.

40. Take a large water container

Limit the number of times you have to walk to and from the water tap by keeping a large container of water on your pitch. This is great for refilling your water bottles, washing your hands and for using when cooking.

41. Don’t forget the tea bags

Tea bags are one of the most common items to be forgotten, but one of the most valued by many campers.

42. You can buy reusable food storage

Ziploc bags may be convenient, but single-use plastic isn’t great for the environment or the wildlife around our campsites. You can buy reusable silicone food storage bags, food containers and even beeswax food wraps that you can use time and time again.

43. Research local places to eat

If you’re camping for just a few days, investing in a camping stove may not be worth the cost when there are some fantastic local places to grab a bite to eat. Take a look at the best pubs and breweries in the New Forest as an example.

44. Night-time in the UK is colder than you think

Even in the peak of summer, the temperature in the UK can really drop at night. You’ll only sleep well if you’re warm enough so go prepared for a cold night, with the option to remove layers.

45. Get a good ground mat

The first thing to consider is what you’ll be sleeping on. The ground will absorb all of your heat given a chance, so make sure you put the right gear between you and it. This guide to sleeping mats should tell you everything you need to know.

46. If you’re going to spend money on one item, let it be your sleeping bag

Your sleeping bag is going to be your main insulation while you sleep, so investing in something comfortable, lightweight and long-lasting is worth the money. This guide to sleeping bags should give you a few pointers.

47. Take a comfy pillow

You can buy camping pillows, but they’re not necessarily needed. If you’re backpacking or low on space, camping pillows can pack down to save on weight and room. Otherwise, any comfy pillow you like will do the job.

48. Pack extra blankets

Blankets can be used as an additional insulation layer on the ground, a cosy extra in your sleeping bag or for putting across your lap on a colder evening. It’s better to have another layer you can use than need one and not have it.

49. Think about your tent flooring

You don’t need to add any additional flooring to your tent, but it is an easy way of ramping up the comfort factor. Foam floor pads, spare carpet and fluffy blankets are great for insulation; they can also protect your tent flooring from wear and tear.

50. Understand heat loss and how to prevent it

If you’re unfamiliar with the mechanisms behind heat loss, take a look at this explanation of the methods of heat loss, which very quickly explains how we lose heat to our surroundings. Once you understand how your body temperature drops, you’ll know how to stay warmer.

51. Don’t sleep with your face inside your sleeping bag

If you sleep with your mouth inside your sleeping bag, the water vapour in your breath will make the inside of your sleeping bag damp which will make you colder and uncomfortable.

52. Pack a hot water bottle

If you’re especially susceptible to cold weather and camping with the means to heat up water, a hot water bottle can be a great option for tucking inside your sleeping bag. Just remember that if you get so hot that you start to sweat, you may wake up colder later in the night.

53. Buy a bigger tent than you think you’ll need

The size of a tent is described by the maximum number of people that can sleep inside it. A two-berth tent, for example, is designed to fit two adults. Although this is great as a rough guide, you’ll probably want some extra space to store your gear and move around inside your tent. We recommend buying a tent which is at least one size up from the amount of people sleeping in it.

Camping shows are a great way to get a feel of different tent sizes and shapes. Find out about upcoming camping shows here.

54. Arrive during daylight hours

Pitching a tent in the dark isn’t an enjoyable experience, especially if it’s one of your first times. Plan to arrive during daylight hours and remember that the sun sets much earlier in the winter months.

55. Double-check the ground you’re pitching on

Look at the ground where you’re about to pitch your tent. It should be mostly even, so you don’t find yourself on a slope. Check there are no rocks, stones or rubbish which can impact on comfort and damage your groundsheet.

56. Pack some microfiber cloths

Taking up little room in the car, microfiber cloths will come in handy countless times during your camping trip. Whether it’s a drink spillage, rainy weather, or excess condensation, you’ll be thankful you have a quick-drying cloth to use.

57. Always use a mallet for your tent pegs

Using your foot to drive tent pegs into the ground is a recipe for disaster. You’re very likely to bend the pegs if you’ve got hiking boots on, rendering them useless. If you haven’t got solid shoes on, you’re more likely to cause yourself a nasty foot injury. If you’ve forgotten your mallet, ask to borrow someone else’s or find a rock to use instead.

58. Make sure you don’t leave too much of your tent peg sticking out

This can help prevent you from tripping over them, which is easily done. You can also get reflective guy ropes which are helpful when coming back to your tent after a late trip to the facilities block.

59. Consider a no-shoe rule inside

Many campers will have a rule that shoes aren’t allowed inside the tent at all. This is a great way of keeping the interior of the tent clean and dry in all weathers. Always make sure muddy or wet shoes are left at the entrance of your tent; you can always pack a pair of comfy slippers to wear inside.

60. Check your tent before you camp

If it’s your first time pitching a tent, or your tent has been in storage for a while, it’s a good idea to get it out and put it up in the garden before you leave. Check you’re comfortable with putting it together and look out for any damage or wear. You can even practice putting all of your kit inside to check it fits how you’d like. Doing a trial run at home is a great way to build your confidence if you’re a first-timer and it should help to ensure pitching up on the campsite goes smoothly.

61. Make sure you have enough room in your tent to store your gear

If you’ve bought a tent big enough for you and your gear this shouldn’t be a problem (see point 49). During your trial run at home, you can double-check that your gear fits inside your tent comfortably.

62. Zip your doors before you pitch

You’ll want to pitch your tent with enough tension to protect it from high winds. If you do that with your tent doors open, you may struggle to zip them up.

63. Pack some duct tape

You can use duct tape to mend a tear in your tent, seal unused food bags, repair your glasses, cover a blister, fix a leaking water bottle and much more. The uses are endless!

64. Read our guide to buying a tent

Find out about the best tent materials and what to look out for in our tent buying guide.

65. Dry your tent out before storing

Packing your tent away on the campsite is okay if it’s wet but make sure you dry it out as soon as you get home. Storing a wet tent can lead to mould and a much shorter lifespan than the manufacturer intended. If the weathers dry, you can put your tent up in the garden to dry it out. If you need to dry it indoors, laying it on a flat surface and turning every few hours should do the job.

66. Check any tent peg requirements

Some campsites will require different types of tent pegs due to ground conditions. You’ll usually be notified of this prior to arriving on your campsite of choice. Some of the varieties of tent pegs to be aware of are rock pegs, snow pegs and stake pegs which are usually a good all-rounder. Many campers will build up a supply of pegs and take a variety along with them just in case spares are needed. For more information on the varieties, read our guide to tent pegs.

67. Take photos as you unpack your tent

Sometimes the hardest part of taking down a tent is figuring out how it fits back inside the bag. Taking pictures of the tent as you take it out can help you figure out how to get it back in.

68. Pack dry spares

Dry campers are happy campers! Pack at least one set of spare clothes in case the ones you’re wearing get wet. Do your research on materials which retain heat and dry quickly, investing in a few good items to see you through will make your camping trip much more comfortable.

69. Make sure your layers are loose

The best way to stay warm is to layer up your clothing, but if your layers are tight, you’ll slow your circulation and end up with cold limbs.

70. Stay on top of your temperature

Don’t wait until your fingers are numb to try and get warm. As soon as you start to feel cold, figure out why and fix it. It’s much harder to get warm when you’re really cold than it is to maintain a constant level of comfort.

71. Pack an umbrella

You may not want to wear your waterproofs when you’re spending the day exploring a new city or town. Pack a compact umbrella so you can be prepared for Britain’s rainy weather.

72. Store your clothes in waterproof containers

This follows on from the point above; make sure your clothes are stored in a waterproof box or bag. This tip ensures you’ll always have a dry set of clothes.

73. Slip-on shoes

Pack a pair of shoes you can slip on and off quickly for trips to the facility block and wandering around the campsite. It’ll save you a lot of time and effort during your trip.

74. Keep your clothes in your sleeping bag

If you’re camping during cold weather, getting out of your sleeping bag can be a struggle. Having your clothes for the day ahead in your sleeping bag overnight means they’ll be warm in the morning. View all of our cold weather camping tips here.

The Best Camping Tips

Table of Contents

Camping is by far one of the best ways to experience nature and the outdoors but it can be intimidating, especially for beginners. We have done a lot of camping over the years that has allowed us to amass a wealth of knowledge from car camping to backcountry camping. So today, we are going to share all our camping tips and tricks that will make your next camping trip enjoyable.

  • If you are new to tent camping, you’ll want to check out our camping gear list to see what you should bring to make the most of your camping trips.

Planning Your Camping Trip

The best camping trips start with good planning. It is not like you can just jump in your car and go. You have to take weather and time of year into consideration. Plus, you will probably have to book a campground well beforehand unless you plan on backcountry camping. Everything you do to plan your trip before hitting the road will make the camping experience easier and less stressful. So let’s get started.

1. What kind of camper are you?

Our mammoth camping trip through Mongolia during the Mongol Rally

We like to break camping down into different types of styles. Some people prefer roughing it as much as they can and others prefer a bit of comfort on their camping trip. By determining what type of camping experience you want to have, you will be able to plan the perfect trip.

  • Tent Camping: By far the most popular as it usually involves camping in a tent at a campsite or a national park where they have facilities like bathrooms and water.
  • Car Camping: This is popular in North America as it lets you drive you car into the campsite and the set up is really easy. Sometimes you camp in a tent on the gound, sometimes on top of your car, and the more adventurous just sleep with a blow up mattress in the back of their SUV.
  • Trailer or Camper: Campervan travel has become increasingly popular and it involves either towing a camper or actually driving a campervan where all the amenities are inside.
  • Backcountry Camping: This for the hardcore campers and hikers out there. This is where you hike in, carry all of your gear, food, and water (or a water purifyer to purify water from lakes) and you are camping with no facilities. This is the type of camping you usually do when you have a bit of experience.

2. Picking a Campground

When it comes to choosing a campground it is always recommended to do it in advance. When picking your campground, there are a few things you should consider when choosing one that is right for you:

  • What is the best time of year to visit? High season or low season?
  • What amenities are available? For example are there washrooms, do they have running water, do they have fire pits or do you need to pack a camp stove, do you need a picnic table?
  • What regulations does the campground have? For instance, is there a no fire policy, are there any closures or if you have a dog, are pets allowed?.
  • How far ahead of time do you need to book to get the campsite you want?

3. Choosing the Best Campsite

Regardless of whether you are camping in a National Park or designated campground, choosing a good campsite can make the difference between a great camping experience and a mediocre one. It is always a good idea to look for a site that has these features:

  • A great view or close to the water. These are usually away from other campsites and offer a bit more privacy.
  • Located further away from the bathrooms. If your campground is equipped with washrooms you will want to pick a site that is a good distance away, especially if you go to bed early or are a light sleeper.
  • When camping in the summer, look for a site that has some shade by trees, you’ll thank us when the morning sun hits and makes your tent an oven.

4. Packing the right Camping Gear

Camping gear is always a very personal choice and one that changes depending on comfort level and budget. Here are some suggestions for the camping essentials including your tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and more.

Tent

Setting up your tent when camping

Your tent is the most important piece of camping gear you will need and it is worth spending money here if you want something that is going to last. We recommend a 3 season tent, as most of you will not be doing winter camping.

We own a three-person tent for the two of us. We find it is good to go up one size from what you need unless you are doing serious backcountry hiking and need to keep your weight down.

  • If you are car camping, you can choose any size you want! A larger tent that you can stand up in and move freely in is ideal.
  • If you are hiking and carrying all your gear, you’ll want to go as light and small as possible.

If you already have a tent, make sure to check the rain fly for leaks and waterproof the seams. You can buy sealant for zippers and you should have a tent repair kit and patches for any leaks or tears.

Sleeping Bag

A good sleeping bag is a must

Next on the list of importance is your sleeping bag. This is another place you don’t want to skimp on when it comes to quality, especially if you want to stay warm.. There are 2 types of insulation that are used in sleeping bags; down and synthetic. Basically, down-filled sleeping bags have a better weight to insulation ratio than synthetic ones. This means, if weight is a real concern for you then down is the way to go. If you are just doing some weekend camping synthetic will definitely save you some money.

Sleeping Bag Suggestions

  • Big Agnes Sidewinder

Sleeping Pad

Camping mats in Kyrgystan

A good sleeping pad can mean the difference between a good night’s sleep and a bad one. A sleeping pad goes between you and the ground and is there to provide cushion and insulation. These are measured in R-Values which tell you the effectiveness of comfort and warmth. We recommend something between 2.5 and 3.5 depending on how much weight you want to carry and how much room you have in your pack.

We use an inflatable sleeping pad from Thermarest. It keeps us warm and comfortable no matter what the temperature outside.

There is a lot more gear you should consider for your next camping trip and in order to make sure you don’t miss anything check out The Ultimate Camping Checklist before you hit the road. We cover everything from what to pack in your first aid kit, what clothes to pack, cooking essentials, and much more.

Outdoor Living and Cover

You’ll also need to be prepared for rain and weather. Temperatures can dip in the middle of the night, so you’ll need to layer up, and have waterproof gear. We always pack a large tarp when car camping to protect from rain should there be a downpour. Fasten it to the trees around you and you can sit under it and enjoy the sound of pitter-patter raindrops. You don’t want to be stuck in a tiny tent all night if the rain comes.

Headlamp and Lanterns

Camping at night

When sleeping under the stars, it’s a lot darker than in the city and you are going to want more than just the light on your smartphone. A camping lantern is a great thing to bring along whenever you go camping. Sure you’ll have the light of the campfire, but what if you want to play a game of cards or read a book, you’ll definitely want some light.

A headlamp is a must when camping. It is a great way to free up your hands so you can clean up, pack up, or pile some more wood onto the fire.

Practice Camp Set Up at Home

Practice setting up your tent at home

There is no worse feeling than getting to a campsite and trying to figure out how all your things work. You want to take the stress out of camping and a good way to do that is by practicing how you are going to set up camp at home. It may sound strange, but if this is your first time camping or you haven’t done it in a while, this will remind you of all those little things you may have forgotten about.

5. Practice Setting Up Your Tent

Too many people get to the campsite and set up their tents for the first time. It can be a frustrating experience and it can really set a negative tone for the weekend. So do yourself a favor and set up your tent a few times before your trip.

After you’ve set it up, get inside and see how it fits. What can you do to make things more comfortable, where are you going to put your packs and gear when inside? Where will you keep your flashlight so it is handy for those middle-of-the-night bathroom runs? Speaking of bathroom runs, don’t forget about toilet paper. What are you going to pack away and what are you going to keep at your fingertips in the middle of the night. The more you are in your tent, the more ideas will come to mind.

6. Practice using your Camp Stove

Another item you are going to want to make sure you know how to use ahead of time is your camp stove. It is not a lot of fun when you want to boil water or eat and you have no idea how to regulate or light your camp stove. This is the camp stove we use.

Follow the instructions that come with it and practice cooking some food and boiling water so that you are not trying to figure that out when you have just come off the trail and are hungry. This is a good car camping or comfort camping stove. See our full camping checklist for cooking and camping utensils.

7. Check Your Headlamp and lantern Batteries

There is nothing worse than getting to the campsite and realizing the batteries in your headlamp or lantern are dead. We always make sure to check these before we go on a camping trip. We also just headlamps that are re-chargeable, so if they do run out we can plug them into a power brick and recharge them on the go.

Make sure to test them at night, so you can see just how run down the batteries are. This is a good headlamp for camping.

8. Setting Up Your Camp Site

Tarps, flies and Vestibules are your friend

At the campsite, be sure to select level ground and look for any rocks, sticks, or roots that will ruin your sleep. Choose a site that has a good tree cover that you can use to tie your tarps and hang any gear. We use a pegless clothesline to dry bathing suits and towels.

We always use our fly on our tent and use it as a vestibule to store our packs. We don’t normally keep our packs in the tent. Instead, we keep them just outside the zipper doors under the vestibule. That said, be sure to have a tarp or footprint under the tent as well. It can get a bit warmer, but we just keep the doors of the fly open to allow air through.

9. Prepare and Plan Your Meals

YOu can eat well when camping

When we first started camping, we didn’t think about meals. We stopped a the store on the way and grabbed some hot dogs and marshmallows thinking we’d just cook over the campfire. This was a bad idea. As we learned to prepare food ahead of time, we found that we could eat very well while camping. There are many prepared meals that you can buy for camping these days from pre-made chicken gumbo to vegetable lasagna.

You can easily pick up gourmet meals at REI (in the US) or MEC stores (in Canada.) Or you can prepare your own meals and portion them out in ziplock bags or plastic bins. We love making stews or chilis when camping. It’s easy to heat up and clean up afterward.

Don’t forget about breakfast. Oatmeal is a great option and we always have a French Press to make delicious coffee. Just add water!

Eggs when camping – Want eggs instead of oatmeal or cereal in the morning? Pre crack your eggs ahead of time and put them in a water bottle. That way you don’t have to deal with messy shells at the campsite. Personally, we don’t cook over the campfire and prefer to use that for S’mores and hot dogs. We use a multi-fuel camp stove and instead make a fire for roasting marshmallows.

10. Make a Kitchen and Sitting area

Picnic Tables aren’t always readily available

You are not going to want to sit in your tent all night, so you need to make sure you have all the comforts to spend a few hours outside. We made the mistake while camping our way through Spain of not bringing camp chairs and we were always sitting on the ground. Pack foldable camp chairs. Don’t solely rely on the picnic tables provided at most campsites. Besides, when you are ready to sit around the campfire, you can’t take the table over.

Pro Tip: Be sure to string a tarp as soon as you get to camp as well. It will protect from rain and offer some shade from the sun. We usually string our tarp up over our eating area.

11. Dealing with Bugs

Dave loves his bug jacket

Many people pack a screened gazebo for sitting in. If you are car camping, go for it. You can set it up around the picnic table and have a place to eat and relax free from bugs. If you are camping in places with mosquitoes and black flies, we highly recommend bug jackets. It is also a good idea to make sure you have bug spray and after bite in your first aid kit to help mitigate the bugs but also alleviate the itching and swelling when you do get bit.

Pro Tip: never leave your tent zipper open. Close it immediately when exiting or entering, it can fill up quickly with bugs.

12. Campfire Tips

Our favorite part of camping is making a campfire. But a lot of people don’t know how to make one in this day and age. Before you go camping, learn to make a good campfire.

  1. Lighters – Be sure to pack several ways to start a fire. Matches can get wet and lighters can be finicky, so bring a few backup options of both.
  2. Firewood – Make sure you buy dry wood. We’ve had fires smolder and fizzle because the wood was damp or waterlogged. When purchasing firewood, make sure it’s nice and dry.
  3. Tinder/Firestarter – You’ll want something that ignites quickly like dry leaves or pine needles. Newspaper is great for this as well. But you can simply buy a firestarter when you get your wood.
  4. Kindling – When purchasing firewood, make sure you get small strips of wood known as kindling. This will help ignite your larger logs.
  5. Placing the logs – When building a fire, it’s important to place your firestarter, kindling and logs in the proper configuration to ignite properly. You can build a teepee starting with the tinder in the middle, then create a teepee shape with your kindling. Once its lit and going strong, slowly add the logs to the fire. This is one of the easiest methods for making a fire.

We also recommend having some kind of poker on hand to move the logs. If you plan on using it for cooking then a stand-up cooking rack is a great idea. We pack leather work gloves for the campsite. When you are ready for bed or leaving the campsite, be sure to put the campfire out completely with water. Pro Tip: Cotton balls rolled in vaseline make for great fire starters.

13. Water

Using a water purifier to fill our water bottles

Many campgrounds have hoses and sinks where you can wash up and get water, but we recommend bringing a large several gallon jug of water for cooking and drinking. You can get a collapsible jug for cooking and a lined insulated container to keep water cool. Make sure you have a cooler filled with ice if you are car camping.

If you are backcountry camping you will want to have a water purification system like a Steripen. That way you can get water out of streams, rivers, and lakes for safe drinking. And pack a Nalgene to refill your water instead of cups. For coffee we love insulated travel mugs.

14. Dry Your Tent

When you are finished with your tent, don’t forget to take care of it. Make sure it it dry before packing it up. If you don’t have time to dry it out, be sure to unpack it when you are home to hang it out. Sweep out the tent and make sure there is nothing left inside. Little twigs or rocks can cause holes. The more you care for your tent, the longer it will last.

Fast Hacks for Camping

15. Tripping over your tent pegs

Gather some rocks and put them over your tent pegs so you don’t stub your toe in the middle of the night.

16. Mosquito Repellant

Mix lemon and eucalyptus to create a natural mosquito repellent. Pack some sprigs of sage and burn it to deter mosquitoes from coming around the fire.

17. Use jugs of water for ice

Ice can get messy and take up a lot of space when camping. Instead, fill up your water jugs and freeze them before camping. Then use them as ice packs. They’ll keep your food cold, and slowly melt so you can drink ice water

18. Fill a hot water bottle to keep you warm at night

Or fill your Nalgene before bed with boiling water and put it in your tent to help keep you warm.

Expedition tents start to arrive at Gorak Shep near Mount Everest Base Camp.

19. Pack a pair of crocs for wearing around camp

They are easy to slide on and off when getting out of the tent and they are sturdy enough that you won’t stub your toe.

20. Pack a warm hat and warm socks for sleeping

I even love wearing a buff around my neck to keep warm. Temperatures can get chilly when camping.

21. Pack wipes and hand sanitizer

Camping can get messy and you don’t always have a sink and soap readily available. Hand wipes and sanitizer are always good to have on hand.

22. Sleep with your clothes in your sleeping bag

When camping through Africa, it was hot during the day, but freezing at night. I kept the clothes I was going to wear the next day in my sleeping bag, so I didn’t dread putting them on in the morning.

23. Don’t have a lantern? No problem

Instead, loop your headlamp around your Nalgene filled with water and shine the light towards it. You have an instant lantern!

24. Pack in bins and sacks

Staying organized when camping is key to having the most fun. Pack your food and kitchen items in bins that can be used as tables for eating and cutting. One can be used for all your food and the other for all your utensils, plates and pots.

25. Don’t forget condiments and spices

You don’t have to bring the entire kitchen, but your favorite spices and condiments can turn food from bland to wham!

Pill containers are a great way to store spices in a small space. I have seen other people recommend tic tac packets. This is a great idea, or you can just buy a Six Spice Camping shaker.

And these are all the tent camping hacks I can think of at the moment. Do you have a secret or unique camping tip to add? We’d love to hear from you. We’re always learning and adding to our camping gear list.

Useful tips – Gathering a child to a camp by the sea list of things

The main problem with the fees is not that you will forget to take some things on a trip, but that many of them will not come back! Come to terms with this loss in advance. Choose things cheaper, say goodbye to each of them. Have a cry over a beautiful new cap… Then write a LIST. Usually the camp recommends a list of necessary things, but this does not mean that you do not need to make your own list.

It is advisable to keep one copy of the list for yourself, and give the other to the child – with your signature! In case of loss of things, the child must describe their signs in a statement addressed to the camp administration. Experience shows that just before departure, some guests may trade in thefts. Many, seizing the moment, rummage through the already collected bags. At this time, you need to be especially vigilant! In case of theft, the counselors are obliged to urgently inform the administration in order to have time to arrange an inspection of the belongings of those departing who are under suspicion. However, in such cases they begin to claim that this player is their own. And only according to the list and the statement it will be possible to prove your property.

In the process of gathering with the child, it is necessary to discuss the choice of things, their functions, the expediency of their use. But do not turn the fees into an occasion for scandals, reproaches, and the struggle for your authority. Let him take what he wants – from OWN things – but with the awareness of full responsibility for them.

KIDS CAMP LIST

A good list is half the price. Let it have the following sections:

1. CLOTHING:

  • headdress (cap, Panama),
  • bandana,
  • jeans, trousers,
  • windbreaker,
  • warm jacket,
  • shirt,
  • shorts,
  • leotard, tracksuit,
  • T-shirts,
  • swimming trunks,
  • briefs,
  • T-shirts,
  • socks,
  • handkerchiefs.

The girls add some more points to this list, which only they themselves understand. We only recommend taking a nightgown or pajamas.

Items should be marked.

How many things – decide for yourself. Lots of socks, shorts and swim trunks. After all, they often get lost: they fly away from the balcony, or maybe they crawl into the cracks under the plinth or climb into holes (otherwise it is impossible to explain their loss). It is good if the clothes have zippered pockets. It’s bad if the fly is buttoned. Girls to the south should not take many dresses, and boys – trousers, because in the heat there will be no opportunity to wear them. But a plastic raincoat will not hurt. Convince your child to hang thick clothes in the closet on hangers – after all, in bags, especially if it is damp, it acquires a musty smell. In the Middle lane – especially if there are hikes – you need warm clothes, as well as boots and a jacket with a hood. In the south, a headdress is required. Panamas are the most hygienic, but guys prefer bandanas. This colorful handkerchief, knee-length T-shirt, rings, earrings, beads and bracelets make the boys look like Grandma Fenya, but they think they look like supermen …

2. SHOES: slippers, sandals, sneakers. In the south, you need to walk more in open shoes, otherwise mycosis will begin. Flip flops break quickly because they step on the heels. You have to buy new ones at the local market, and then walk around with your hand behind you to protect them. Boys’ sneakers tend to clog up a lot, so you need spare insoles – or at least the ability to wash them. It’s very funny when teenagers jive or waltz in basketball shoes and leotards, so those who don’t mind entering the dance competition need shoes and trousers.

3. HYGIENE:

Beach towel. To wipe off after swimming in the sea – otherwise water drops focus the sun’s rays, burning the skin. And also to wrap yourself in it in different ways, play, spank each other with a “carrot”, wallow on it, gallop back for it when you forget on the beach. Useful thing.
Soap – always with a soap dish. Better a few small pieces with a good smell, otherwise it will become sour and stink the whole nightstand.
Shampoo – disposable sachets are better, because a large bottle will spill on the road or be forgotten in the shower. Some guys are eager to paint their heads in the camp, for example, in crimson. Well, only let the parents write permission: there are no complaints about the camp. Let them take a tonal shampoo, but at least a drying helmet is their business. But it’s better to do it before the trip: the “raspberry head” will not get lost in the crowd…
A tube of paste – but the counselor will take it away so that they don’t smear themselves.
Three cheap toothbrushes – one is often lost, forgotten in the washbasin. It is imperative to convince the child to brush his teeth not only in the morning, but also at night! – yes, so hard that the bristles are flattened. And after that, no longer chew on sweets under the pillow. Otherwise, it will bring caries!
Toilet paper , and preferably napkins. Suitable for a variety of occasions. Disposable handkerchiefs, because in the camp – always snot.
For boys – razor . For girls – pads, tampons . And willingness to bleed out of time.
Something for acne . This is a common problem in the camp.
Deodorant : Low fragrance roll-on antiperspirant. But not a cheap aerosol: in the heat it is poison!
DO NOT TAKE – stinking perfume in a glass bottle. They will break it, spill it – and suffocate in the ward!
Sun protection . Very important when traveling south. The closer to the equator, the less reason for jokes: burns of the retina, skin, and even melanoma are possible. Therefore, you must definitely take dark glasses (preferably two) – with UV protection, plus a cord so as not to drop them. And sunscreen (sunscreen). Don’t forget to brush your ears and nose. They will also be protected by a headdress with fields. In the sun, we don’t wear a T-shirt, but a T-shirt, otherwise our shoulders and collarbones will burn. You can even swim in a T-shirt – warmer.
Mosquito repellant . It is better to buy a more expensive cream – it is more effective and not so harmful to the skin. The bites of southern mosquitoes in many children cause a strong skin reaction – you need to have a special cream.
Safety scissors . Useful for trimming your nails or cutting off a band-aid. But in no case should you give them to the counselors to cut out paper tinsel! – scissors will not return…
Antibiotic liniment . Needed to treat piercings and earrings, which often become inflamed from bathing.

4. PAPER

  • Personal documents (certificate, passport, international passport)
  • Medical certificate.
  • Questionnaire. Some camps require a description of the child’s chronic illness, allergies, personal preferences, hobbies, and other individual qualities.
  • Agree with the rules and regulations of the camp.
  • A copy of the medical policy.
  • Voucher.
  • To cross the border – a notarized consent from the parents.
  • Money. If it is provided for by the rules, they must be handed over to the accompanying or other responsible person – and sign the amount. The money that remains with the child should be kept in the fastened pockets of clothing – and this clothing should not be left unattended. The worst way to carry money is in a purse in the outer pocket of a bag. Worse than this – only in the fist.
  • Drawing book. Pens, pencils.
  • Magazine, look through. Or a small book – for those who like to read.
  • Some decent photos of your adventures to show to new friends.
  • Note in the bag: full name, phone number of parents, home address, camp address. In case they lose or mix up a bag, a suitcase, and maybe the child himself – many do not remember this data!

*Make copies of all documents.

5. ITEMS

  • DO NOT bring jewelry or expensive equipment to camp. But if a young traveler stubbornly drags a player, a camera or a gold chain with him, let him take care of them – and keep them with responsible persons, or NEVER let him out of his attention. The player or phone are wild animals. One has only to take them for a walk without a leash, or leave them to charge – and then turn away for a minute, as they will immediately run away!
  • Games, toys – such that it will not be a pity to lose. It is best to bring a soft toy with you.
  • Something for a masquerade. Fun.
  • Threads of two colors and a pair of needles (you can’t interrogate the counselors).
  • Pack of activated carbon. A versatile antidote that absorbs toxins.
  • Adhesive plaster.

Have a good rest!

USEFUL TIPS | Children’s camp them. Yu.A. Gagarin, Zavodoukovsk

If you are sending your child to camp for the first time, then this column is for you! In this section, we will give you basic tips on how to bring your child to camp and how to properly communicate with your child during his stay at the camp. And so, let’s start …

1) Packing for the road. Probably the most thorough procedure, which is fraught with many pitfalls. When sending a child to the camp (especially if his age is 6-12 years old), you may not see half of the things after the shift, so that this does not happen, you need to do the following:

  • Pack the things you don’t mind at camp,
  • Make a list of things, put it in a suitcase with your child, this will help your child get ready for the trip back,
  • Mark things. Any mark will do. Now there are a lot of identical things and your child’s neighbor can easily put two identical sweaters, taking both his own and someone else’s,
  • Give the child the necessary minimum of things, the more variety there is, the more likely it is that some of the things will be forgotten.

In addition, along with the ticket, a list of necessary things is issued, do not neglect it, collect everything that is indicated in it! We note the most important things in this section:

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, washcloth, comb, (elastic bands and hairpins for girls), warm clothes (even if you send a child in summer, remember that the weather can be unpredictable) , replaceable and sports shoes, headgear.

And there are things that are not recommended to take to the camp, they will become an extra burden for your child.

  • Medications (with the exception of drugs for the chronic and those drugs that must be taken in continuous courses) – our camp has an excellent medical building with all the necessary medicines,
  • A cell phone, it will only interfere with the child during the shift, Gagarin has a landline phone, on which you can call your child every day from 8:00 to 17:00 or he can call you,
  • Money, a small amount will not hurt him, but giving huge fortunes is not worth it,
  • Precious jewelry, there is a possibility that the child will simply lose an expensive item,
  • PSP tablet, laptop and other equipment – this will distract the child from the program offered at the camp, it makes no sense to send the child to rest if he plays computer games all day,
  • Not recommended products. You can check their list at the camp, remember that we have a balanced menu, and any snacks can reduce the healing effect for the digestive system.

2) Communication with the child is no less important topic for parents, here are the most important rules:

  • Do not call or come to the child in the first 3 days – this interferes with the child’s adaptation,
  • Call the child no more than 1 time in 2-3 days, if the child is small and very bored, then limit yourself to 1 conversation per day,
  • Visit your child once a week or less, give him freedom,
  • If a child is in the camp for the first time and cries, do not give in to emotions, be patient, this is a normal reaction for children entering the camp for the first time,
  • And most importantly, remember that a child, in order to get what he wants, can go to different tricks and what he tells you does not always reflect the real situation, call the camp to find out how the child is doing, and only then draw conclusions.

What to Look For and When to Seek Help

While it’s normal to worry, most minor head bumps aren’t a cause for concern. Know the signs you should call the pediatrician or seek emergency care.

You see baby teeter, then totter, and then — in a “Matrix”-like moment that somehow occurs both in slow motion and in the blink of an eye — they tumble. Oh, the screams. The tears. And a big goose egg that’s growing by the second.

We know how scary it can be when your precious baby bumps their head. And if you’re living this right now — icing your little one’s knot while searching for what to do next — you’re in the right place.

First, take a deep breath and try to remain calm. Most of the time, fall-related bumps to the head are minor and don’t require medical attention.

In fact, this 2015 study concluded that fall-related head injuries in young children don’t usually cause serious harm.

At the same time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that falls are the leading cause of traumatic brain injury-related emergency department visits up in children up to age 4. Keep in mind that this is rare.

So in the rarer case, there are a few cues that should alert you to seek emergency medical help.

First, some reassuring stats: According to one study on short falls in young children, only about 2 to 3 percent of falls lead to a simple linear skull fracture, and most of these don’t cause neurological problems. Only about 1 percent of skull fractures related to accidental falls cause moderate to severe brain injury.

That said, it’s still important to be aware of the symptoms of a traumatic brain injury, including concussions, which usually present within 24 to 48 hours of the accident.

If your baby is showing any of these symptoms after experiencing an injury to their head, call 911 or take them to the nearest emergency room immediately:

  • uncontrolled bleeding from a cut
  • a dent or bulging soft spot on the skull
  • excessive bruising and/or swelling
  • vomiting more than once
  • unusual sleepiness and/or difficulty staying alert
  • loss of consciousness or not responding to voice/touch
  • blood or fluid draining from the nose or ears
  • a seizure
  • a suspected neck/spinal cord injury
  • trouble breathing

Accidental bumps to the head are one of the most common injuries among infants and toddlers. But this fact alone might not stop you from continuously replaying the scene in your head while thinking about how you would rewrite the ending.

But a fall-related knock to the noggin is often largely due to a baby’s physical stature and development — not your parenting. Babies’ heads are often proportionally larger than their bodies, making it easier for them to lose their balance.

In addition, babies’ physical strength and abilities are constantly changing, which affects their stability and coordination. The same adorable wobbly walk could put them in harm’s way when encountering a new, uneven surface or a fun object to run toward.

This, coupled with a baby’s tendency to engage in more daredevil acts that have them climbing, jumping, or trying to fly just for the thrill, can be the perfect equation for a nasty plunge. In fact, babies are notorious for these common head injury culprits:

  • slipping in the tub
  • falling backwards
  • falling off a bed or changing table
  • falling after climbing on furniture or up on countertops
  • falling in or out of the crib
  • tripping over rugs or objects on the floor
  • falling down steps or stairs
  • falling while using an infant walker (one of the reasons why such walkers are considered unsafe)
  • falling from playground swing sets

The height from which a baby falls is correlated to the severity of injury, so if your child fell from a higher distance (such as from a crib or countertop) they’re at a greater risk of serious injury.

The term “head injury” encompasses the entire range of injuries, from a small forehead lump to a traumatic brain injury. Most short fall-related injuries among babies fall under the “mild” category.

Mild head injuries

Mild head injuries are considered closed, meaning they don’t involve any skull fractures or underlying brain injury. In these cases, swelling and a large “bump” or bruise on the skin may appear without any further symptoms.

If your baby’s fall resulted in a cut or laceration, there may be significant bleeding that requires medical attention to clean and suture the wound, even if there’s no brain or skull injury.

After a bump to the head, babies can experience a headache and discomfort. However, at this age, it’s difficult for them to communicate this feeling. It might surface as increased fussiness or difficulty sleeping.

Moderate to severe head injuries

Moderate to severe brain injuries represent the minority of those related to infant falls. They can involve:

  • skull fractures
  • contusions (when the brain is bruised)
  • concussions (when the brain is shaken)
  • bleeding in the brain or around the layers surrounding the brain

Concussions are the most common and least severe type of traumatic brain injury. A concussion can affect multiple brain regions, causing problems in brain function. Signs of a concussion in children can include:

  • headaches
  • loss of consciousness
  • changes in alertness
  • nausea and vomiting

While super rare, more severe injuries can involve a fracture of the skull, which can put pressure on the brain and also cause swelling, bruising, or bleeding around or inside of the brain. These are the most serious circumstances that require emergency medical attention.

It’s critical that medical treatment is administered as soon as possible to reduce the potential for long-term brain damage and loss of physical and cognitive function.

In most cases, “watch and wait” (with lots of extra TLC) is the most appropriate course of action after a baby’s minor head bump.

Keep the symptoms of a more serious head injury in mind, watching for any changes in behavior or neurological deficits within 48 hours of the accident.

Other ways to care for your injured little one during the watch and wait period:

  • apply ice as tolerated by your baby
  • clean and bandage any minor cuts or abrasions to the skin
  • check for changes/consistency in the size of your baby’s pupils
  • monitor your baby while they’re sleeping during naps and at night
  • call your baby’s pediatrician for guidance if you’re concerned

When to call your child’s pediatrician

You know your baby best, so if you’re even remotely worried, don’t hesitate to call your child’s pediatrician for expert advice on what to do next. They might want to evaluate your baby out of precaution and to document the injury for their medical record.

To evaluate for a head injury, the pediatrician or emergency room doctor will likely ask you about how the injury occurred, what your baby was doing before the injury, and what symptoms your baby experienced after the injury.

They might also do a series of neurological exams — looking at your baby’s eyes and responses to voice and touch — and a general physical exam, too.

If something in this exam triggers concern of a serious brain injury, the doctor may order an imaging test such as a CT scan. CT scans are usually only performed when there’s evidence of a severe brain injury.

Although rare, the doctor may advise you to go to the nearest emergency room for more immediate evaluation, diagnosis, or critical care. Or, they may want to observe your baby for a few hours during a medically supervised “watch and wait” period.

Treatment for head injuries depend on the severity. In mild cases, ice, rest, and extra cuddles are the best medicine. (Not a bad treatment for adult head bumps, either. )

After a concussion, frequent monitoring might be advised by your baby’s pediatrician, as well as activity restrictions.

For more serious injuries, it’s important to follow a doctor’s direction. Usually, only severe traumatic head injuries require critical hospital-based intervention that can include medical and surgical treatments as well as physical therapy.

Most minor bumps to the head in young children don’t pose any risk of long-term complications, thank goodness.

But there is a body of research that does bring to light long-term concerns with even minor traumatic brain injuries. A 2016 study that followed a Swedish cohort concluded a possible correlation between a traumatic brain injury (including mild concussions) in childhood with an increased risk for mental health problems, disability, and even mortality into adulthood. As you may expect, children with multiple head injuries had even greater long-term risks.

The American Academy of Pediatrics echoes this with research presented at its 2018 national conference. In the study of children diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury from mild to severe, 39 percent developed neuropsychiatric symptoms up to 5 years after the injury, such as headache, mental disorder, intellectual disability, depression/anxiety, seizure, or brain damage.

This message is empowering to help prevent more serious accidental falls that could affect your little one’s health, growth, and development.

While a minor head bump is bound to happen from time to time, here are a few tips to help keep your baby out of harm’s way.

  • Install and secure baby gates on the top and bottom of stairs.
  • Watch for wet areas on hard floors (especially around pool and bath surfaces).
  • Install non-skid mats in the bathtub and rugs on the bathroom floor.
  • Firmly secure furniture to walls.
  • Keep young children away from dangerous things to climb.
  • Don’t sit or leave your baby up on countertops.
  • Avoid using infant walkers with wheels.
  • Remove tripping hazards.
  • Be cautious at playgrounds that don’t have softer surfaces.

There’s no doubt about it — when your baby takes a tumble, their tears can equal fears and tears of your own. It’s normal to worry, but rest assured that most minor bumps to the head don’t cause a serious brain injury or require emergency medical attention.

However, there are rare instances where a more serious traumatic brain injury can result. In this case, know the symptoms to watch for and always call your child’s pediatrician or seek emergency medical care if you feel it’s necessary.

Read this article in Spanish.

The child hit his head – advice for parents

Each kid, as he grows up, exploring the world around him with interest, fills himself with a lot of bumps! And most often this happens completely unexpectedly both for the child himself and for the adult clutching his heart at that moment. The children’s skull is a fragile and vulnerable structure, especially for the first year of a baby’s life, when the fontanel has not yet closed, and the bones of the skull are easily displaced upon impact. According to statistics, about 40% of babies have fallen from a height at least once. But, fortunately, only 1.5% of cases of falling from a height led to serious health consequences.

What is the most traumatic age for a child?

3-4 months

At this age, many babies are already turning over from back to tummy and vice versa. This is a very exciting activity (after all, there is a completely different view on the stomach!) And the child can train for days on end, throwing a leg, groaning and swearing, turning over to one side or the other. And here lies the main danger!

Today you are used to the fact that your child can roll over in 1 minute, and tomorrow a baby who has eaten and is full of energy will do the same in a couple of seconds, lying on the sofa or changing table, when the mother simply turned away to take a rattle or a pacifier. And at that moment the child falls to the floor, touching it with the heaviest part of his body – his head.

Prevent falls and injuries!

  1. Choose a cot or playpen with high sides.
  2. From the age of 3 months, do not leave the child unattended at a height. If swaddling on a table, keep your head away from the edge.
  3. When the child begins to actively roll over and crawl, it is safest to equip a play place on the floor (the best cover is a special children’s rug).
  4. When you go to the doctor, don’t leave the changing table for even a minute.

1-1.5 years

At 6 months the child crawls, sits down, a little later tries to get up and most often lands back on the bottom, gets scared, but then tries again. And by the age of one, the baby is more or less firmly on its feet, taking its first steps. When learning to walk, children often lose their balance, striving to fall sideways or head first. Due to poor coordination, falling, the child cannot always put his hands forward, so it is the head that most often suffers.

An inquisitive baby, as he explores the territory, can collect bumps on hard corners, as well as objects that are easy to drop on themselves by simply pulling on the protruding edge of the tablecloth. It can be vases, mugs, books, lamps, laptops.

Prevent falls and injuries!

  1. Protect your home by covering protruding corners and sharp objects with special soft pads. Place locks on doors and windows.
  2. Do not leave hot tea or coffee on the table!
  3. If you have a slippery floor, buy your baby special socks with pimply soles. Or lay a carpet in the nursery.
  4. Be sure to fasten your child in a stroller or car seat.

7-10 years old

At this age, active socialization of children begins – school, joint walks and active games with friends, parental control weakens.

Prevent falls and injuries!

  1. Be sure to wear a helmet when your child is riding a scooter, cycling, skiing, skating or rollerblading.
  2. Teach your child how to fall properly while riding.

What should I do if my child has fallen?

The most important advice for adults is not to panic! Try to behave as usual, calm the crying baby and carefully inspect the site of injury. If the wound is open, bleeding, apply a sterile bandage on it and press the wound. An ice pack will help stop the bleeding faster.

Important! If the blow was strong and the child lost consciousness, do not lift it yourself, immediately call an ambulance. When falling from a height, not only the head suffers, but also the neck. Without proper transportation, this can lead to serious complications.

After giving first aid to prevent the adverse effects of a fall, you should consult a doctor.

If there is no visible head injury, observe the child for 24 hours. The following manifestations should alert you:

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Amnesia (blackouts)
  • Vomiting
  • Slurred speech
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Increased drowsiness, lethargy
  • Irritability
  • Double vision
  • Bleeding from the nose or ears
  • Asymmetry of the face or pupils, blurred vision

All these symptoms require immediate medical attention! Remember that even with outward well-being immediately after an injury, symptoms of concussion and brain damage can appear within 24 hours. Therefore, it is so important not to waste precious time trying to solve the problem yourself.

Children with a head injury with suspected brain injury should be examined by a neurosurgeon (or emergency care specialist) in a specialized hospital setting to exclude life-threatening intracranial hematomas.

A SPECIALIZED hospital for children with severe isolated and combined TBI is a multidisciplinary pediatric hospital with 24-hour CT, laboratory diagnostic, resuscitation, surgical, trauma and neurosurgical services.

From the clinical guidelines of the Association of Pediatric Neurosurgeons of Russia.

Diagnosis of brain injuries

  • Examination of the head (wounds, hematomas, depressions of the skull bones, signs of a skull base fracture)
  • Neurological examination
  • Consultations of specialists according to indications: anesthesiologist-resuscitator, traumatologist, surgeon, oculist (fundus), otorhinolaryngologist
  • Craniography (X-ray) in 2 projections
  • Neuroimaging: CT, MRI
  • Instrumental examination of internal organs according to indications
  • Cerebrospinal fluid examination
  • Complete blood count, biochemical blood test
  • Blood typing and Rh factor

If you need to quickly make an MRI of the brain, you can use the services of a special aggregator for recording MRI and CT scans. The service database includes many modern medical centers, which are sorted by proximity to the house, price and range of services provided. Specially trained call center staff will help resolve all issues – quickly and efficiently select a clinic for MRI or CT for a specific request (for example, find the cheapest option closer to home, find out if it provides the right service).

If no brain damage is found after a doctor’s visit and examination and the child feels well, the parents are allowed to go home, but they are advised to continue monitoring the child’s condition. This is due to the fact that some head injuries are very insidious and their consequences do not appear immediately. If you notice that the child began to feel nauseous or motion sick on the 3rd or 4th day after the injury, this is an occasion to consult a doctor again.

Children’s head injuries | Kaplan Medical Center

Head injuries are very common in children, but 60% of them are mild and do not cause any damage. In most cases, the infant or child will cry out of surprise from the pain resulting from the impact, but very soon the crying will stop and the child will continue to act normally. Thus, most cases do not require special treatment or any checks, other than the observation of parents at home.

Is a hematoma (bruise) in the area of impact dangerous?

Bumps usually show no outward signs other than some redness or superficial abrasions. Sometimes a red-blue swelling may occur at the site of impact, which means subcutaneous hematoma in the area of impact. The occurrence of a hematoma is not surprising, because the scalp area is abundantly covered with blood vessels. Therefore, if an external injury occurs, the bleeding from it will be relatively large compared to similar injuries in other parts of the body, and the internal injury will be a subcutaneous hematoma.

How to treat a hematoma?

Attach something cold wrapped in cloth.

How to stop bleeding?

If there is external bleeding from the wound, apply pressure to the impact site with a piece of a stamp or other tissue.

When can you calm down and understand that we are talking about a slight bruise?

In the following cases, you can understand that this is a minor injury and that you can monitor the child at home:

  • This refers to a fall from a small height (large height – more than a meter in infants under two years of age).
  • Injury not the result of a traffic accident
  • No significant penetrating injury
  • Injury not the result of bullying (in any case of suspicion of intentional injury, fundus examination should be performed and reported to a social worker)
  • No signs of loss of consciousness or seizures
  • Child behaves normally again after a few minutes
  • The child did not vomit more than twice after the injury
  • The injury did not develop a prolonged or significant headache

When can a child be allowed to sleep after a head injury?

A child can sleep after a head injury, sleep will not hurt him. However, if it seems to parents that drowsiness is significantly increased, so much so that it is difficult to wake the child, you should go to the emergency room.

When should I arrive for an examination in the emergency room?

It is important to come to the emergency room in the following cases:

  • The injury was serious or the fall was from a significant height (more than a meter), even if the child looks perfectly healthy
  • The child suffers from severe prolonged headaches
  • The child suffers from nausea /vomiting for a long time
  • The child shows anxiety or vice versa indifference
  • There is a cut at the site of the injury that requires suturing or gluing
  • The injury occurred to an infant under the age of one year

Please note that there is a fee for visiting the emergency room.

How to recognize a concussion?

In more serious cases, signs of concussion may develop: persistent vomiting, significant dizziness without anatomical disturbances. A child who shows signs of a concussion will usually be hospitalized to monitor the progress of the problem. In most cases, after 24 hours of observation, the child will be discharged home.

How to make sure that there is no skull fracture?

In more serious cases, a skull fracture may occur. In most cases, we are talking about a “linear” fracture, that is, a crack. Diagnosis is by CT, in which case hospitalization is required for observation for several days to ensure that there are no signs of internal trauma.

When can a head injury be life-threatening?

Internal bleeding can be very dangerous and cause permanent damage or even death. The reason for this is the accumulation of blood in the intracranial box and its pressure on the soft tissues of the brain. Diagnosis of internal bleeding is done by CT of the brain. Bleeding inside the skull can be managed with emergency neurosurgery to drain blood and relieve pressure.

How to avoid such injuries?

It goes without saying that prevention is the most important thing. Falls from a bicycle, scooter or roller skates can be very dangerous if the child is not wearing a helmet. Therefore, it is very important to choose a helmet according to the size.

The head circumference of an adult is from 51 to 62 cm on average; in children from the age of 8 years, the head circumference reaches about 80 percent of its final size. On the packaging of the helmet, its girth in centimeters is indicated, as well as information about the size – small, medium, large.

When cycling, scootering or roller-skating, carefully fasten the helmet straps under the chin and turn your head to make sure that the helmet does not fall off. A helmet that is too large can be very dangerous and cause more damage in the event of an accident.

It is very important that the helmet be made of two types of material, or fused together, to make it resistant.

Natural Playground

Our natural playground at All Seasons of Eagan is the result of months of visioning and collaboration.

We visited playgrounds and studied unique outdoor spaces from around Minnesota, throughout the USA, and in other countries.  We noted which elements were most engaging, challenging, and unique to children.  We made wish-lists of our favorite features, including climbers, balance beams, grassy hills and valleys, a wandering trike-riding path, a mud kitchen, a stage, a water feature with a dry creek bed, and an abundance of sand.   Another priority was making available “loose parts”: pieces that children can manipulate and change, such as stumps, planks, rocks, buckets, pots and pans.  Our playground needed to offer opportunities for active play and physical challenges as well as for dramatic play and quieter social and solitary exploration.

We looked for a designer who could translate our vision into reality.  After an extensive search, we found Bears Playgrounds in Lima, New York.  We were impressed with their commitment to using natural materials instead of plastic and metal, as well as their creative designs.  It was a pleasure working directly with the landscape architect, who incorporated all the elements from our wish list into the design.

During the hottest days of 2020, the Bears construction crew assembled the structures while the landscapers shaped the terrain.  As the perennials began to take hold in the gardens, it was exciting to watch our first groups of preschoolers explore our new space.

Professor Theodore “Ted” Mosby

Main article: Ted Mosby

Josh Radnor

Theodore Evelyn Mosby (played by Josh Radnor). Born April 25, 1978 [1] in Shaker Heights, Ohio, USA. Ted met Marshall and Lily during their freshman year at Wesleyan University. He grew up with his younger sister and parents. Ted always dreamed of being a famous architect, and spent years at one of New York’s leading firms before opening his own. After failing to start his own firm, Ted goes to teach at Columbia University, where he almost meets his future wife. Ted regularly corrects minor speech errors (mostly pronunciation and grammar) of people and loves Art Deco architecture, especially the Empire State Building.

Marshall EriksenEdit

Jason Segel

Marshall Eriksen (Eng. Marshall Eriksen, played by Jason Segel). Born in 1978 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, USA. Marshall met Ted and Lily during their freshman years at Wesleyan University. He is a graduate of Columbia Law School. Even at 6 feet 4 inches, he is the shortest BIG man. Eventually, he accepted a job at a corporate law firm where his client is an amusement park riddled with various security breaches. He later joins a group of lawyers from Goliath National Bank, where Barney also works. Marshall grew up with two older brothers who had amateur MMA fights, so he fights very well. But, despite this, he often shows his softness and sensitivity, sometimes bordering on effeminate (he loves the Sex and the City series, attended a meeting of book lovers). Marshall shows an extreme degree of interest in the paranormal. The most interesting for him are Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster (or, as he calls her “she”, “Nessie”).

Lily Aldrin

Alyson Hannigan

Lily Aldrin (English Lily Aldrin, played by Alyson Hannigan). Born in 1978, raised in Brooklyn, New York. Lily is a kindergarten teacher. Lily is passionate about painting, because of her dream of becoming an artist, at the end of the first season, she broke off her engagement with Marshall. However, she quickly returned. Their wedding with Marshall takes place at the end of the 2nd season. She also has a huge debt with a loan company because she sometimes buys things impulsively. She hid this from Marshall until they decided to take out a mortgage on the apartment. Then it turns out that her paintings have a calming effect on animals (except birds). Lily is absolutely not good at keeping secrets, but despite this, she is a very caring person and often does things for the benefit of her friends. In the series, there are occasional hints of Lily’s bisexuality. This is due to the fact that one of Alyson Hannigan’s previous roles was the bisexual sorceress Willow Rosenberg from the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Robin Scherbatsky

Cobie Smulders

Robin Charles Scherbatsky Jr. (Eng. Robin Charles Scherbatsky Jr., played by Cobie Smulders) was born July 24, 1980 in Canada. Since Robin’s father wanted a son, she was brought up as a “tomboy” – she loves whiskey, cigars and guns. In the 1990s, she was a pop star in Canada under the pseudonym Robin Sparkles. Robin is a journalist and has hosted at least three shows. Lily’s best friend. Ted meets her in the pilot and realizes that he is in love with her. They start dating in the second season, but at the end they still break up due to disagreements regarding future plans. A few years later, he begins dating Barney. He proposes to her in episode 12 of season 8 and gets married in episode 22 of season 9th season. But three years later they get divorced and after that Robin decides to devote his whole life to his career. In the final scenes, Ted comes to her apartment with a French horn “Smurf’s Penis” and they look at each other happily.

Barney Stinson

Main article: Barney Stinson

Neil Patrick Harris

Barney Stinson (born Barney Stinson, played by Neil Patrick Harris). Barney is a womanizer, wears suits, loves to play laser tag and perform magic tricks, often with fire. Barney’s catchphrase “Legen… wait for it… dary!” ( Legendary… wait, wait… thankfully ). Born in 1975. Barney was engaged to a girl in college, and when she broke up with him (leaving him a virgin), his black brother (who later became gay) arranged for him to lose his virginity. The woman with whom he lost his virginity called him the best lover of her life, at the request of his brother. Before losing his virginity, Barney was a long-haired hippie with plans to join the Peace Corps. Now he works at the Goliath National Bank, as head of the search committee. In the fourth season, he was shown to have feelings for Robin, which developed after their date.

Tracey McConnell

Christine Milioti

“Ted’s future wife” was an unseen character for a long time. Younger than Ted by 6 years. The real Ted hasn’t met her, while the future Ted doesn’t talk much about her. In episode 9 of season 1, there is a hint at the name of Ted’s future wife: on Thanksgiving day, stripper Amber admits that her real name is Tracy; immediately after these words, Ted says to the children “And that’s how, kids, I met your mother”, but this turns out to be a joke, the real meaning of which is revealed later, when the name “Mom” becomes known. In addition, in one of the episodes, it is revealed that Ted found a yellow umbrella belonging to his future wife, who was present at the same party in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Stella (Sarah Chalk) is mentioned in passing when Ted invites her to a party, to which she replies that she was only there once this year at a party that was in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, hinting that the yellow umbrella could be hers (this is later turned out to be false). Future Ted says that his wife is brunette, but he was going to marry Stella [2] who has blonde hair (his children, like Ted, have dark hair). On his first day on the job, as Professor Mosby [3] , he mistakenly stands in front of an audience of economics students, including his future wife. Also, Ted dated a graduate student named Cindy (Rachel Bilson), whose roommate is Ted’s future wife. Ted is in the apartment of Cindy and her neighbor [4] , he picks up many things that are close to him, which actually belong to a neighbor, and when he already leaves, he sees the neighbor’s “sparkling heel” when she disappears into her room after accepting soul. In episode 1 of season 6, Ted says that he met his future wife at the wedding, and in episode 18 of season 6, Ted says that he was the best man at that wedding. It was later revealed that this was Barney and Robin’s wedding. In episode 1 of season 8, it became clear that Mom plays the bass guitar and will attend the wedding as a musician. In the last episode of season 8, the face of a girl with a yellow umbrella is revealed. She is played by Cristin Milioti. In 1 episode 9season, Lily meets the same girl on the train. This is confirmed by the words of Ted: “And so, children, Aunt Lily met your mother.” A similar phrase: “And so, children, Marshall met your mother” sounds in episode 13 of season 9. On-screen regular “Ted’s Wife-to-be” began to appear in the ninth season and joined the main cast of [5] starting with episode 16 of How Your Mother Met Me.

Minor HeroesEdit

Ted’s son and daughterEdit

Not much is known about them, except that they still don’t know all the events that led up to the meeting of Ted and their mother. These events are also known to take place in the year 2030, which means that they were probably born around the early 2010s. At the age of twenty, Ted wanted his children to be named Luke and Leia. In Season 1 episode 21 (Milk), Ted is made to swear by “an unborn son and daughter”, to which he responds, “I swear on Luke and Leia.” It’s obviously a Star Wars reference. The daughter is played by Lindsey Fonseca and the son is played by David Henrie. In season 7, it became known that the daughter will be born in 2015. Later it becomes known that their names are Penny and Luke. Luke was born in 2017.

CarlEdit

Carl MacLaren (played by Joe Neaves). The bartender at the MacLarens bar, who is the favorite of the main characters. In the pilot episode, he dated a Lebanese woman. In another episode, [6] , he writes his phone number on the hand of a very drunk Ted so that he can be called if Ted gets lost. Though never mentioned on the show, the last name is Carla McLaren (hence the name of the bar), as revealed by series creators Carter Baze and Craig Thomas. The MacLaren’s bar is based on the real-life McGee’s bar in New York City. In the series, the bar is named after Carter Base’s assistant, Carl McLaren.

RanjitEdit

Ranjit (Ranjit, played by Marshall Manesh). Taxi and limousine driver from Bangladesh who drives the main characters several times and drinks champagne with them once at the McLarens bar. Also, was a limousine driver right after Marshall and Lily’s wedding. Helps Ted arrange a two-minute date for Stella [7] , and took Barney and Ted to Ted’s 30th birthday [1] . One day [8] Ranjit makes an argument for ducks in Persian, although Bengali is spoken in Bangladesh. Interestingly, the actor was born in Iran.

VictoriaEdit

Victoria (Eng. Victoria, played by Ashley Williams). Victoria works as a confectioner at Buttercup Confectionery. She and Ted met at a wedding for which she made a cake, where they make a promise that they will never see each other so as not to ruin their memories. They don’t keep their promise and start dating. This becomes more complicated when Victoria is offered to study in Germany. Ultimately, they decided that a long distance relationship didn’t work and went their separate ways. In Season 7, Victoria returns. It is she who points out to Thad that his and Barney’s relationship with Robin is not normal. We also learn that Victoria is getting married soon. In episode 24 of season 7, Victoria decides to run away from the wedding for Tad. They subsequently dated for 5 months. Thad proposed to Victoria, but she agreed on the condition that he stop talking to Robin. But Thad decided he couldn’t stop seeing Robin. The couple broke up, and Victoria’s last words before leaving were that she hoped that Ted would someday achieve Robin.

StellaEdit

Stella Stella works as a dermatologist, she removes Ted’s butterfly tattoo. Ted tries to convince her to go on a date with him [7] . Stella initially refuses because she must be focused on her daughter, but eventually agrees to go on a two-minute date. She and Ted begin dating soon after. Her future with Ted was deliberately left undisclosed for some time, and there was even speculation that she might be Ted’s possible wife (but this is not the case). In the last episode of the third season, Ted proposes to Stella and she accepts. Later, Stella’s sister’s wedding is canceled and Ted and Stella [ who? ] agree to take over her wedding. As a result, Stella leaves Ted at the altar and returns to Tony, her ex-husband and father of her child. Appears in nine episodes of the fourth and fifth seasons of the series. She appears later, she is still with Tony, and it is he, feeling guilty for stealing his bride from Ted, who offers him a job at the university.

James Stinson

James Stinson (Eng. James Stinson, played by Wayne Brady). An African-American brother of Barney who also loves costumes and acts much the same way. Gay and married to a gay man, one adopted son and one adopted daughter. Appears in three episodes [ what? ] . In season 9, he becomes an almost permanent member.

Brad

Brad (Eng. Brad, played by Joe Manganiello). Marshall’s friend from law school. Brad and Marshall begin to bond after they find out that both of them have been dumped by their girlfriends. He also took part in Marshall’s bachelor party and wedding. He gets punched in the face by Barney when he tries to kiss Robin at the hockey game. Appears in five episodes of the series.

Stuart

Stuart (Eng. Stuart, role played by Mat Boren). A good friend of Ted and Marshall, who accompanied them to Marshall’s bachelor party. Stuart also marries Ted’s girlfriend, Claudia, but when Ted wanted to bring a guest to their wedding, Claudia got angry because Ted mentioned in the invitation that he would come alone. Despite Claudia’s refusal, Ted asked Stuart if he could bring Robin to the wedding, and Stuart agreed. As a result of this, Stuart and Claudia quarreled. Ted ended up going to the wedding alone. Appears in four episodes of the series.

Wendy the waitress

Wendy (English Wendy, the role played by Charlene Amia). Waitress at McLaren’s bar. Barney had a short relationship with her and they broke up quickly and easily, though Barney is certain that she is trying to kill him by poisoning his drinks. Ted’s father also kissed her.

Robin’s Five DogsEdit

The dogs were sent to Aunt Robin’s farm because Ted was jealous of them [9] . Although Robin visits her dogs often to make sure they don’t forget her, she doesn’t take them back either because she doesn’t want five dogs in one apartment.

6 Awesome Games for a Bubble Themed Party

Kids of all ages love blowing bubbles. The kids at your party will love them even more because they’ll be used to play these entertaining games. These games are perfect for an inexpensive party because your only expense on entertainment will be the cost of the bubbles.

The Best Way to Make DIY Bubbles

    Bubble Up

Have players form a circle. Choose one player to stand in the middle, and give that player a bottle of bubbles and a multi-holed bubble wand. Ask the player to blow as many bubbles as he can up into the air. The rest of the players have to try to keep them in the air or from popping by blowing on them (in an upward direction). When the last bubble is gone, a new player goes in the middle. Play until everyone has had a turn as the bubble blower.

    Bubble Art

    olhakozachenko / Getty Images

This is a combination of party game and art project that kids will enjoy. Set out several bowls of dish soap paint (when making this, make sure it has the consistency of bubble soap). Have the children pair up to do this project.

One member of the team will dip their wand into the color of their choice and blow a bubble. The other teammate has to hold up a piece of paper and catch the bubble, so that it pops onto the paper, leaving a splash of color on the page. This continues until the player with the bubble wand has used all the colors he wishes to create a design on the paper. Players then switch places so that everyone can have a turn making a bubble art project.

    Bubble Pop Freeze Dance

    SeventyFour / Getty Images

Every kid loves to play freeze dance, and every kid loves popping bubbles. This game combines the love of both for an awesome good time. To begin, have all of your party guests gather in a central space. Now play some party music and have them dance. Have a few adults blow bubbles into the dance space, and ask kids to pop as many bubbles as they can.

When the music stops, kids must stop dancing, stop popping bubbles, and freeze in place. This becomes especially challenging for little ones who would rather keep popping bubbles than freeze. Anyone who fails to freeze, however, is out of the game before the next round begins. But players who are “out” don’t have to be sad, because they get to help blow the bubbles into the crowd. Keep playing until only one player remains in the dance space.

    Bubble Wand Relay Race

Ghislain & Marie David de Lossy / Getty Images

Divide kids into two teams, and have them line up behind a starting line. Place a construction cone or some kind of marker several feet away from the starting line.  One at a time, players must blow a bubble and then catch it on their wands. Once they have caught their bubbles, they must race to the marker and back without popping or losing their bubbles (if this happens, the player must go back and start over).

When they get back to their teams, the wands are passed off to the next players in line, who must transport their bubbles to the marker and back. Play continues until one team completes the task. This team wins.

This is the classic backyard game of tag, but instead of tagging players with her hands, the player who is “it” must instead blow a bubble onto another player. Once a player is hit with a bubble, he is either out or has to take the place of being “it.”

In this game, kids get to find out what it feels like to be inside of a bubble. To set up for this, you will need to fill a children’s pool with a strong, soapy bubble mixture. Place a small step stool in the center of the pool. One at a time, have the children sit on the stool. Then, place a hula hoop over the child, and into the bubble mixture. Let it sit for a minute. Have all of the remaining children form a circle and help to slowly lift the hula hoop, forming a big bubble around the child on the stool.

BORING! Wow!

This is not worth the $4. 99 at all! Don’t waste your money. My 18 month is bored almost immediately. Nearly every mini game involves popping bubbles, and that’s about it. Nothing educational. Disappointing purchase.

→ Children’s party → Organize a children’s party

delight! They shimmer in the sun and play with all the colors of the rainbow, rise up and burst there.
There are many recipes for making a solution for soap bubbles.
We offer three of the most popular and easy to prepare.
First variant
For 200 g of any detergent, you need to take 600 ml of water and 100 ml of glycerin (sold in a pharmacy). Mix everything well. With glycerin, the bubbles are denser.
Second variant
A piece of laundry soap should be grated on a coarse grater. In 400 ml of hot water, dissolve 4 tbsp. l. soap shavings. Let the solution stand for a week so that the soap dissolves, then add 2 tsp to it. Sahara. Leave until sugar dissolves, then mix – ready. This recipe is more difficult than the first, but worth it – the bubbles are dense, the mass is very foamy and productive.
Third option
We will need: 50 ml of shower gel (you can take shampoo or liquid soap), 60 ml of water, 0.5 teaspoon of sugar. Combine everything, mix. Ready!

Color bubbles
Soap bubbles can be made colored – it will be a real soap firework, from which any child will be delighted! To do this, pour the prepared solution into small jars and color with food dyes of different colors. You can not only blow such bubbles – you can draw with them! The prints of colored bubbles on paper are very merging into whimsical patterns, they can also be used to create colorful backgrounds for other creative works. You can draw with colored bubbles on pieces of cardboard, wallpaper, in the snow.

Air doll
It is very interesting to blow bubbles one into another, according to the principle of nesting dolls. To do this, you need a flat surface (for example, a flat plate) and a thin straw. Lubricate the bottom of the plate with a solution. Inflate the first bubble so that it lies on a plate with a hemisphere. Now gently insert the straw inside this bubble and inflate the second bubble inside. And so on – the third, fourth … You can compete who will inflate the most bubbles. This is a fun activity for the whole family!

Don’t let me fall
Children try to do everything possible so that soap bubbles do not fall to the ground for as long as possible.

Inflate more
Children take turns blowing up as many soap balloons as they can and counting them. The one who blew them the most wins. Great way to remember numbers.

Catch on command
Children “catch” bubbles only on a special command: squatting, on one leg, with one hand, on tiptoe, only with their head, finger, etc.

Juggling
With the help of wire rings, you can try to juggle soap bubbles.

Soap miracle in hand
Dip your hands in the soap solution and use your index finger and thumb to blow bubbles. Soap balls will be right in your hands. Very funny!

Who has a bigger bubble
You can arrange a competition – who will inflate the biggest bubble.

Soap cocktail
Pour some soap solution into a jar. Take a tube and start blowing hard into it. You will quickly form foam, which will be fun to fall out of the edges of the container.

Who will catch more bubbles
Children chase soap bubbles, trying to “catch” as many of them as possible.

A few summer games with soap bubbles

What makes summer pleasant? You can endlessly walk, scream and get dirty! One of the first games in nature – soap bubbles. Kids love to catch, pop, inflate soap balls! Therefore, as a starting point, we offer a selection of unhackneyed games with soap bubbles. Go!

Game “Inflate me!”

Ask the child: “Inflate me!”. The baby will inflate the bubble, and at this moment you slowly “inflate” – get up from your haunches, puff out your cheeks, spread your arms, rise on your toes, turning into a ball. Ask the kid: “Pop me!” And show how to “burst” you with your finger. Bang bang! Deflate sharply, doing all the steps in reverse order, but only quickly and funny. After a while, switch roles.

Game “Don’t sit on the stump, hold the bubble!”
The object of the game is to keep the bubble from falling to the ground for as long as possible. To do this, you can use all the means at hand: wave a fan, blow on a bubble with a small toy fan or a hair dryer. No technology at hand? Great! Develop voluntary exhalation! Blow on the bubble without letting it touch the ground. Play together with a child or a team of several players: which of the participants will have the bubble in the air the longest, he won.

Bubble Matryoshka Game

This trick requires a flat surface, such as a flat plate and a thin straw. Lubricate the bottom of the dish with soapy water. Try to inflate the first bubble so that it lies on a plate with a hemisphere. Then gently insert the straw inside this bubble and inflate the second bubble. And then – the third, fourth … To make it even more colorful, you can pour the solution into several plates, add a little food coloring to each. And – voila! Each next bubble in “Matryoshka” can be a new color!

Color names can be fixed during the game. And if the baby does not know how to blow yet, but he likes to watch the process – teach him to command you using separate words or phrases.

Multi-Colored Bubble Swirl Game
Cut off the bottom of the bottle and put on a terry sock instead, then dip the sock in the soap solution and blow. You will get a large, dense, bubble sausage. To give the “bubble tail” color, you can first dip it in food coloring or take a color solution right away. How to play with bubble “sausage”? Very entertaining! You can touch the bubbles, beat them with a fly swatter, roll cars along the bubble track, bury small toys in bubbles, throw a pile of bubbles up, throw a handful of bubbles into the water. The game is suitable for children to develop the skill of voluntary breathing, phrasal speech, tactilely saturate and become an excellent motivational game that can be used after completing some less inspiring, but necessary task!

Game “Man-made Bubbles”

Make a ring out of your index finger and thumb, dip your hand in soap solution and blow – you will get bubbles, both large and small – whoever has what. The game saturates tactilely, allows you to work out imitation skills, develops your favorite fine motor skills. Invite your child to make a ring with different fingers.

Good app

It is a truly a good app, but my only complaint is that on most things you have to pay .99 . You can use it to extend your vocabulary, learn new things, and lots more. Also there are no adds.

This app is amazing

I’m going into 7th grade and this app is helping me so much! I’m starting to download all the other games made by these designers because this one game is so helpful. The only thing I’m worried about is the .99 everyone is talking about. But overall great game!🤓

Awesome!

This app is AMAZING! I started encouraging my child play this game instead of Roblox, she agreed and now is being benefitted by it! She loves it as much as I do! DOWNLOAD THIS GAME RIGHT NOW! And learn more than you thought you could!

How to prepare for the VPR in English? — Plan

Let’s help you speak English without hesitation

Start learning

Previously, students faced the exam format only in the 9th grade. But since 2016, when VPR came to schools, children and teenagers learn to work with KIMs and convert points into grades already in the 4th grade.

In this article we will tell you what to expect from the VPR in English for the 7th grade and how to prepare for its tasks.

What is VPR

VPR, or the All-Russian Testing Work, is a single control work that is carried out among grades 4–11 in all schools in Russia. This type of knowledge testing differs from intermediate certification in that tasks for it are compiled at the state level and students in all educational institutions write a control using the same options.

VPR in English is taken in the 7th, 10th and 11th grades.

How will the CD in English in the 7th grade

All-Russian test in English for the 7th grade consists of 6 tasks: 2 oral and 4 written. All of them help assess basic language skills:

  • task 1 – listening;

  • tasks 2, 3 – speaking;

  • task 4 – reading;

  • task 5 – grammar;

  • task 6 – vocabulary.

Schoolchildren are given 45 minutes to complete all the tasks of the test.

English proficiency test

This English proficiency test was compiled by the Skysmart online school tutors. They prepared interesting and relevant tasks on modern topics to make the test both useful and interesting

How to prepare for and pass the listening comprehension for the English CDF

Task 1 of the exam will test how well a 7th grade student can understand English speech by ear. First, you will hear a small text twice, after which you will need to complete the task for it. These will be five sentences that need to be supplemented with one of the three proposed options according to the text.

Before exam

In order to cope with this task, it is important to start practicing listening in advance. To do this, you can:

  • to complete the test tasks of the exam on the portal “I will solve the VPR” in English;

  • watch a movie with subtitles – but always something that suits the level;

  • listen to audiobooks – you can start with the Harry Potter saga;

  • communicate with foreign friends;

  • study with an English tutor or teacher.

On the exam

Here are a few tips to help you do well on your listening test:

  • Search for keywords. They will help you find the right answer.

  • Be careful. Do not rush to write down the answer option as soon as you hear it in the text. Sometimes there are “traps” in the records.

  • Listen to the text both times. The first is to search for marker words, the second is to check.

  • Take notes. Write down what you understand while listening in a draft.

How many English words do you already know?

Let’s define your vocabulary – without complex questions and with the help of smart algorithms.

How to prepare for and pass reading, speaking in VLOOKUP in English

Task 2 is the text to be read aloud. In task 3, you will need to choose one of the three proposed pictures and describe it in your own words in the form of a monologue statement. In task 4, read five mini-texts and match them with the numbers under which the topics are written.

Before the exam

To do these tasks well, you need to improve your vocabulary and pronunciation. Here’s how to do it as part of self-preparation for VLOOKUP in English:

  • Learn words from cards – you can print them out or make them yourself, but it is most convenient to use special services.

  • Surround yourself with English — subscribe to foreign bloggers, change the interface language on your smartphone, watch foreign YouTube channels with subtitles.

  • Read aloud posts on social networks, books, texts from exercises to prepare for the CDF.

  • Communicate in English with peers or a teacher.

On the exam

Now let’s talk about how to improve your chances of getting a high grade during the VPR. Here are some tips from Skysmart teachers:

  • Take your time when reading aloud. At this stage, they will evaluate how clearly you pronounce the words.

  • Follow the plan carefully when describing the picture. He is in every such task.

  • If you are not confident in your abilities, do not try to impress the teacher with abstruse vocabulary. Let the description be simple, but meaningful and without errors.

  • Don’t be silent. To get a good grade, you need to write a description of 8 sentences.

  • Look for 4 keywords in the text from the task that will hint at the desired topic. Underline them so you don’t lose sight of them when checking.

Your five in English.

How to pass grammar on VLOOKUP in English: analysis of tasks

Now let’s look at examples of tasks in grammar and vocabulary that you may fall for VLOOKUP. And at the same time, we will analyze the algorithms for solving them.

Task No. 5

Read the text and replace each gap with the correct grammatical form by selecting it from the drop-down list.

The Dog and the Donkey

Once in a small town there lived a baker. He had two pets—a dog and a donkey. The dog kept watch over the house. The donkey carried the bread and the cakes that the baker made. One night a thief A____ into the house. The baker B____ soundly. The dog too was fast asleep, he did not bark at the thief. The donkey saw the thief and wanted to awaken C____ master, so he began to bray loudly. The thief ran away. The baker could not sleep. He came out. He could not understand why the donkey brayed so loudly and he beat the stupid but dutiful donkey very badly. But the D____ house was saved. It was the duty of the dog to keep watch and not of the donkey. However, the donkey turned out to be a E____ guard than the dog.

A 1) broken 2) was breaking 3) broke 4) was broken
B ) his
D 1) baker 2) bakers’ 3) baker’s 4) bakers
E 1) good 2) more good 3) best 4) better

Tip

This is a grammar task. If you want to prepare well for the VLOOKUP in English, we advise you to repeat the topics as carefully as possible:

  1. English verb tenses.

  2. Verb to be.

  3. Personal and possessive pronouns in English.

  4. Possessive case.

  5. Degrees of comparison.

How to solve

The first thing we advise you to do is to read the entire text, ignoring the gaps. Determine what this text is about and in what time it is written: in the present, past or future. Then read the first sentence with a gap and think about what could be in its place. What part of speech? If it is a verb, then in what grammatical form? What pledge?

Deciding together:

A) In this sentence, a thief broke into the house. We can immediately exclude options No. 2 and 4, since they are written in the passive voice. There are options No. 1 and 3. The sentence is composed in the simple past tense – we can understand this by reading the text as a whole. The simple past requires the second form of the verb, and broken is the third. So option #1 is also out of the question. The correct answer is broke at number 3.

B) We have already found out that the text is written in the past tense, so we immediately exclude options 1 and 4, since they refer to the grammatical forms of the present tense. This sentence says that the baker is sleeping. Now you need to understand whether this action is single or long-term. Since sleep is a process, we need to choose the form of the past continuous. Was sleeping fits. So option number 2 is correct.

C) In this case, we need to choose a pronoun. It is clear from the context that the donkey wanted to wake up the baker, so we exclude the variant her . Also, the variant he does not suit us, since this is a personal pronoun. Now it’s worth deciding whether we need object pronoun (him) or possessive pronoun (his) . Since the baker is the owner of the donkey, we choose the possessive pronoun his . This is option number 4.

D) Here you need to choose the correct possessive construction. It’s worth remembering that it’s expressed as ʼs , so options #1 and #4 don’t work. Option number 2 – too, since bakers ‘we could write if there were a lot of bakers. The correct answer is bakerʼs , option number 3.

E) The meaning of this sentence is that the donkey turned out to be a better guard than the dog. To make it so, we need a comparative construction. This means that options No. 1 and 3 are not suitable, because they are not a comparative degree of adjectives. It is important to remember here that0087 good is comparatively an exception, so the correct answer is better , option number 4.

Answer: 32434.

Task number 6

Read the text and replace each gap with a suitable word by selecting it from the drop-down list. Two words in the list are superfluous.

A Cap Seller and the Monkeys

There was a cap seller in a city. He used to go from village to village to sell his caps. His way laid A____ a forest. It was a hot summer day, and he got tired. To get some rest, he sat under a tree. Soon he fell B____ . Many monkeys lived on that tree. When they saw the caps, they climbed down the tree and took the caps. Then they climbed up the tree C ____ .

The cap seller woke up after some time. He found that his caps were missing. He looked up and saw the monkeys wearing his caps. He tried his best to get his caps D____ but he couldn’t. Suddenly an idea occurred to him. He took off his own cap and threw it on the ground. The monkeys did the same, since they are imitators. The cap seller collected all his caps and went E____ happily.

1)again 2) asleep 3) around 4) away 5) back 6) thorough 7) through

Tip

This VLOOKUP English task will test your knowledge of vocabulary. In order to perform well and achieve the maximum score, it is important to regularly replenish vocabulary.

How to solve

By analogy with the previous task, the first thing to do is to read the text and figure out what it is about. This is important for understanding the context as a whole. We also advise you to try to predict what might be in each pass.

Deciding together:

A) By context, we understand that the path lay through the forest. This means that the correct answer is number 7.

Important!

The exam task contains the distractor thorough , which is visually similar to through , but has a completely different meaning. Also, if you find it difficult to solve the first task right away, you can skip it at this stage, do another and return to the skip a little later.

B) Insert 9 in this sentence008 asleep7 , since it is part of the stable phrase to fall asleep – “fall asleep”.
C) The correct answer is again , since, according to the meaning, the monkeys climbed the tree again.
D) The answer is back , since it is part of the stable combination to get back – “return”.
E) The correct answer is away because it is part of the phrasal verb to go away

Answer: 72154.

How is the assessment of work on the VPR in English in 2022

Like other exams, the All-Russian test work is assessed in points, which are then converted into an assessment on a five-point scale. The maximum score for the test is 30 points. Below we leave a table by which you can find out how to write a VLOOKUP in English for grades 2, 3, 4 and 5 in the 7th grade.

Conversion of scores for CDF to grades
Primary scores Score on a five-point scale
0-12 2
13–20 3
21–26 4
27–30 5

We understand that tests can be a difficult test. But with competent and regular training, you will adequately cope with them. The most important thing is to practice a lot and combine different approaches: study on your own and with a teacher. For example, in English courses for teenagers at Skysmart, students analyze all types of VLOOKUP tasks: they learn to speak, understand and use grammar correctly. Try it for yourself: the introductory lesson is free!

How hard is it to start a race? – At maximum speed – Blogs

At maximum speed

Blog

This post was written by Sports.ru user, every fan can start writing (you can do it here).

So you’re saying the race director ruined the Italian Grand Prix? I do not agree. I didn’t see the starter go out onto the track, stand on the wheel of Charles Leclerc’s car to get a better view of the starting grid, and start like that. Believe it or not, 60 years ago this is exactly what happened.

If you look at the FIA Sporting Regulations, it will not say anything about where the person giving the start should be. Probably because the riders concentrate on the traffic lights and don’t need to see who is pushing the buttons. It wasn’t always like that. Once upon a time, a proper assessment of a starter’s body language could give you an edge. But, if something was misread, chaos could begin. That’s what happened at Silverstone in 1971.

Clay Regazzoni’s Ferrari pole position was the prologue to the confusion. The Swiss was distinguished by false starts from the second and third rows, but the judges turned a blind eye to the hooliganism of the charismatic racer with a mustache and a smirk. During the British Grand Prix that year, however, he ran into trouble. It was his second career pole position with Jackie Stewart on the Tyrrell next to him. The relationship between Clay and Jackie says a lot about the episode on the last lap of the German Grand Prix 1972, where Regazzoni sent Stewart into the wall without batting an eye, a rare moment in which the Scot was furious.

British Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1971

So here we are at Silverstone where the cars are getting ready to start and line up on the grid after the Woodcote corner. Regazzoni revs up his inline 12 engine, sees Dean Delamont raising the British flag, starts releasing the clutch and suddenly sees that the flag is still not lowering. Regazzoni was about to fly forward into the Copse turn in Firestone tire smoke, but instead had to slam on the brakes. Unfortunately, Regazzoni’s reputation preceded him, and the other riders followed not the start signal, but his rear wheels. By the way, from the back rows, Mr. Delamont was not visible at all because of the profile of the starting grid. Jackie Oliver in the McLaren started from the penultimate row, moved forward slightly, then stopped, but he was hit from behind with such force that Jackie collided with Graham Hill’s Brabham in front, breaking his suspension. And at that moment, Delamont lowered the flag.

After wisely waiting a few seconds, the marshalls jumped over the small wall and hauled the broken Brabham onto the pit lane. They made it before the Regazzoni-led racers streaked through the Woodcote corner at 300 km/h a few meters from Hill’s car. But that was not all. Dave Charlton was heading into the pit lane due to a broken oil hose in his Lotus 72, and the Brabham car parked there took him by surprise. To avoid a collision, he had to turn sharply to the left into a racing trajectory. Luckily no one was there.

Starting line in Mexico

But this is all kindergarten compared to what happened in Mexico. In order to impress the President of Mexico and the whole world of Formula 1 during the first race in this country (unofficial, by the way) in November 1962, officials somehow brought three people to the starting grid, each of whom believed that he was giving start. The problem with teamwork became apparent when Jim Clark’s Lotus stalled on pole position and no one knew what to do. Lotus mechanics had no doubts – they ran up to the car and postponed the start. After replacing the battery and trying to start the car “with a pusher” (unsuccessful), it was rolled back. And at that moment, Surtees’ car began to smoke – something clearly went wrong under the hood. And then something caught fire in Walt Hangsen’s Lotus, and it took the officials’ panic to the next level.

The mechanics with fire extinguishers were still on the grid when one of the starters jumped onto the front wheel of Jim Clark (whose car was now running) and signaled to the grid. The second person showed the sign of the countdown of 30 seconds, and the third at the same moment waved the flag and started. And the race began. The first man flew off the wheel of Clark’s Lotus, fell to the side and narrowly missed the wheels of Roger Penske’s Lotus, and Jack Brabham crashed into the second starter.

Become a nurse in Canada

When choosing a profession, students are guided by several points – their own hobbies, the prospects and demand for the specialty, wages. Education in Canada adds another factor to this list – the opportunity to stay in the country and get the opportunity to immigrate extraordinary. All these requirements are met by the specialty Registered Nurses, which has been a leader in the list of scarce professions for many years. Certified nurses are so in demand that the corresponding diploma guarantees almost one hundred percent employment, and not only in Canada.

1. Some statistics…

Data from the Canadian Nursing Association indicates that over 100,000 nurses were missing from the healthcare market in 2012. Universities and colleges did not train enough staff, relying on immigrants and foreign students.

Over time, the situation only worsened as active nurses retired and there was no one to replace them. Figures for Vancouver show a staff outflow of up to 1,000 nurses per year against a background of 650-750 young professionals graduating. The annual shortage was already up to 250 qualified nurses per year.

Amid the economic crisis, the situation temporarily improved as Canadian nurses of retirement age put off their well-deserved rest and continued to work. But as soon as the economies of Canada and other countries stabilized, a new massive exodus of medical personnel began.

2. Whom should I study?

In Canadian healthcare, there are 4 specialized areas of work for nurses:

  • 1. Personal Support Worker (PSW). The tasks of the PSW, translated into Russian reality, are more consistent with the functionality of a nurse. Earnings of junior medical staff in hospitals and boarding houses – up to 10-25 dollars per hour. Education takes a minimum of time – only 2 semesters for the college program.
  • 2. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). Obtaining licensed nurse practitioner crusts also does not require much training. Colleges offer programs ranging from one year in British Columbia to two years in Ontario and Alberta. Certificates and diplomas confirm a good knowledge of theoretical material, and the mandatory passing of the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE) is a qualifying practical level.
LPN’s work includes performing basic medical procedures (taking tests, issuing prescribed drugs, sterilizing operating equipment, caring for patients, teaching patients and their families about the principles of a healthy lifestyle). In addition, Licensed Practical Nurses can care for chronically ill patients both in the hospital and at home. And the last direction guarantees excellent prospects for qualified nurses.
In hospitals, LPN perform tasks assigned by Registered Nurses and earn approximately $34,500 per year for their work.
Getting knowledge and finding a job as a nurse of this profile is not difficult. Special initial knowledge and work experience is not required.
  • 3. Registered Nurse (RN). The work of Registered Nurse already requires serious knowledge – not only nursing, but also solving administrative issues, document management. The volume of work directly with patients is reduced to a minimum.
University education for Registered Nurses is mandatory, as is the Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BScN). Those who have chosen research activities or want to work in a narrow medical specialty will need to additionally obtain a master’s or doctoral degree. When it comes to the Registered Nurse Associates degree, this is an American term that emphasizes an intermediate professional level: higher than LPN with a post-college diploma, but lower in level than RN with BScN.
RN’s professional knowledge is sufficient for independent work. Having a treatment plan in hand, nurses can control the patient’s condition – carry out treatment, dispense prescribed drugs. Registered Nurse also maintains medical equipment, assists in operations, manages junior medical staff.
A wide range of specializations allows certified nurses to work in any hospital department – from emergency care to surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, psychiatry, oncology and geriatrics. Jobs are also available in clinics, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and private practitioners’ offices.
In Ontario, Registered Nurses can expect to pay up to $48,500 per year.
  • 4. Nurse Practitioner (NP). The status of a Nurse Practitioner with a Masters in Nursing degree is the highest among ancillary health positions. Most Canadian provincial regulations allow NPs to diagnose, prescribe medications, and prescribe and modify treatment regimens for both physical ailments and psychiatric diagnoses. Nurses are given the right to independently conduct a complete medical examination and even perform simple surgical procedures.
With sufficient experience, nurse practitioners can work separately from doctors, but most often this is a paired collaboration. The doctor is responsible for making diagnoses and prescribing, the nurse practitioner is responsible for completing all tasks.
NP’s average annual income reaches $92,500.

The level of income in any of the cases is not absolute and depends on many things – on the length of service, the chosen place of work, the province of Canada.

3. Registered Nurse Training

Registered Nurse is the direction most in demand among foreign students. There are two ways to achieve the goal:

  • 1. Choose the appropriate college program and enroll for further education.
  • 2. Complete college retraining for a Canadian degree. This path is of interest to holders of a basic medical education, as some subjects may be re-credited.

Medical departments of colleges and universities are officially called medical schools. Entry requirements are different everywhere, but there are usually no mandatory entrance tests.

Applicants only need to present a certificate of secondary education and confirm the knowledge of mathematics at the level of 11th grade of a Canadian school and at the level of 12th grade of such subjects as:

  • chemistry
  • physics
  • biology
  • English or French.

Canada has adopted the practice of loans, which can be taken at the end of school. For future doctors, these are “thirty” in chemistry, biology and foreign. You should not be afraid, since the “thirties” are equivalent to the results of Russian secondary education, and when entering college, foreign students often count the results of the certificate.

If the choice fell on a retraining course, then you will need to provide not only the required documents, but also a diploma and TOEFL results. In advance, you should take care of the translation and apostille of all prepared papers. You don’t have to worry about admission: admission is held twice a year, and the competition is less than for regular programs.

The duration of the Registered Nurse course depends on the chosen level:

  • Associate Degree. The study will take 2 years. The cheapest deals at Community College.
  • Bachelors Degree (BSN). Training 4 years.
  • Masters Degree (MSN). Study for more than two years and only after obtaining a BSN.

It is normal practice in Canada for students to continue their studies up to the BSN level and work at the same time after receiving a PN.

MSN is not for everyone. Only if there is a desire to become a nurse manager or teach later at the university.

4. Canadian Medical Colleges

International students with medical backgrounds and work experience are welcome at OMNI College in Richmond. The educational institution is quite unique, and not only because it teaches foreigners from all over the world. All college teachers must practice, work in their specialties. This allows them to give real knowledge to students, share experience. The OMNI curriculum is reviewed annually, adjusting to the latest trends in world medicine. This makes it possible to train the highly sought-after specialists that Canadian hospitals need so much.

Many colleges partner with universities for medical programs. When evaluating the options for admission, it is worth evaluating all the possibilities and offers of Canadian education.
