The Golden Rules of Life by Leila Denmark, the world’s oldest practicing pediatrician

Leila Alice Denmark (1898 – 2012) – American pediatrician, one of the developers of the whooping cough vaccine, was the oldest practicing pediatrician in the world, retiring at the age of 103 in May 2001.

She is one of the few centenarians who have crossed the 110-year milestone, who are known not only for their longevity.

Born in Portal, Georgia, she was the third of 12 children in a family of farmers. Danmark studied at college to be an educator, but decided to go to medical school after her fiancé, John E. Danmark, was sent to Fr. Java to Indonesia. If she had received a pedagogical education, her husband would not have been allowed to take her with him, but medicine was a sought-after specialty in Java.
nine0006

She was the only woman among the 1918 Medical College of Georgia graduates.

After returning from Indonesia, the couple settled in Atlanta, where Leila Denmark worked first at Grady Hospital and then at Eggleston Children’s Hospital. Since 1931, she began private practice.

In 1932, she dealt with the whooping cough epidemic that claimed 75 human lives in Georgia. Thanks to the research of Leila Denmark, during which she managed to cure her daughter, Mary Alice (1930 years old), the production of a vaccine against whooping cough was started.

L. Denmark described the effectiveness of her research in the American Journal of Diseases of Children (Studies in Whooping Cough: Diagnosis and Immunization, 1936; Whooping Cough Vaccine, 1942). For her achievements, Danmark received the Fisher Prize in 1935.

In 1945 she moved to Sandy Springs, where she continued her pediatric practice. At the age of 87, L. Danmark wanted to retire and moved to the city of Alpharetta, but eventually continued to work as a doctor there as well.
nine0006

Only in 2001, L. Denmark left her job due to vision problems.

At 103, she was probably the oldest practicing physician in the world. Interestingly, her longevity can hardly be explained by heredity. Her mother died at 45, her father 20 years later.

In 1971, she published a book entitled Every Child Should Have A Chance, later reprinted several times. Leila Denmark outlined her philosophy of attitude towards children.
nine0006

Among other things, she was one of the first doctors to point out the harm of smoking in the presence of children, for children inhaling smoke. She also sharply criticized the use of drugs, the use of coffee and alcohol by pregnant women and in general. L. Denmark believed that drinking cow’s milk does not benefit children, and instead of drinking juices, she recommended eating vegetables.

Leila Danmark is the recipient of numerous awards and titles, including receiving an honorary doctorate from Emory University in Atlanta in 2000, and in 1953 – the title of “Woman of the Year” in Atlanta.

Leila Denmark died on April 1, 2012 at the age of 114 years and 2 months.

Below are some quotes from Leila Alice Danmark, and her statements about parenting are very interesting and noteworthy:

The secret to a long life is to eat right and love everything you do. When you do what you don’t like, it’s work. When you do what you love, it’s a game. I haven’t worked a day in my life.

***

Wealth is when you have something to give to those in need. If I had a million, I would give it to the poor.

***

It takes a lot of stupid people for the rich to get richer.

***

They don’t make an appointment with me. You never know when a child will get sick.

***

Never take anything you can’t pay for.
nine0006

***

Many people think about tomorrow. But is it worth it? Tomorrow may not come.

***

Being a good mother or father is the only worthwhile job on Earth. The most precious thing a child can have in their life is their parents.

***

When a child stops sucking on his mother’s breast: no tea, no coffee, no Coca-Cola. Only water. Children become anemic from cow’s milk. The calf, when it stops sucking the udder, goes to the pasture. He only eats grass. And how healthy and strong he grows. I have never tried Coca-Cola, tea or coffee. From 7 months I drank only pure water.
nine0006

***

It happens that a mother complains: “Well, why did my child do this?”. And I say: look in the mirror. Children are like sponges, soaking up everything they see.

***

Education has gone out of fashion. Children do not receive advice from their parents. They do not guide their children.

***

Being a woman is great. There was never any doubt about this.

***
nine0006

It is not poverty that harms people, but a lack of attention, indifference.

***

I always listened very carefully to what my husband said. She did everything she asked with pleasure. He is the same. I loved the mountains and camping. He is too. We had fun living together.

***

Never do or say anything that one day you want to forget.

***

In any situation, you must maintain a sense of humor.
nine0006

***

Do not pick up a baby who is crying. You can pick it up, check if it’s dry, but don’t nurse it. The baby should cry up to 8 hours a day. This is part of the development of his lungs. Let him cry while he is small. Otherwise, you will cry when you grow up.

***

I do not claim that my methods are the only correct ones. I will never tell another specialist that his prescription is wrong. The choice is up to the parents. Only they can know what is best for the child. I practiced pediatrics for 75 years. These methods have worked all the time.
nine0006

***

Would you like to lie down and chew gum all day long? No. Then why do you give pacifiers to children?

***

The most important thing you can do is to have a positive impact on at least one person. Our blessing is to live in this world, right now. We can say that everything is bad. But everything will be bad later. There.

    Pumpkin farm

We were looking for a fun farm to pick some pumpkins. We decided to try Berry Patch Farm! It is $4. 00 to park on the weekend. Go early as it was busy last weekend.

It was cute with lots of pumpkins. They are not in a patch to pick but have two areas that you can pick from. First area is near the entry area and next take the tractor trailer ride and pumpkin area. Then you can take pumpkin back on tractor trailer and pay at the small store. They had cotton candy, cider, face painting, and couple other areas. There is also some chickens, pigs, goats to look at not pet but see. There are plenty of spots for cute pictures!

    Cute farm!

    Beautiful

We did the tour at Hardman Farm, walked the Little River Trail and carried on walking into down town Helen. The Little River trail is a wide, evenly paved, shaded trail that runs along the river. We were so impressed at how well maintained it is. We loved Hardman Farm and the trail was the icing on the cake of a perfect day.

    Lunch and a movie!

All at the same time. I hadn’t expected to eat a hotdog while watching the movie but it meant I didn’t have to wait for lunch. It was a Nathan’s hotdog so it was very good but it could have been hotter. I would get one again though.

Flower Power: 53 years of Woodstock Festival

LifestyleShopping

Interesting facts York, USA.

Initially, it was planned to arrange it in Woodstock, but the organizers could not find a suitable place there and as a result, leased 6 hectares of land in Bethel for this purpose.

#2

The organizers assured that there would be no more than 50 thousand visitors, but in the end, Woodstock was visited by about 500 thousand people.

#3

Woodstock entrance was free .

No. 4

speakers included virtually every rock star of the 1960s: The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joan Baez, Joe Cocker, Grateful Dead, Ravi Shankar, The Incredible String Band, Carlos Santana and many more.

But The Doors and Led Zeppelin refused to come to the festival . They say that Jim Morrison did not want to participate in “a pale version of the Monterey Festival”, and the Zeppelins were “another group in a long list”, which both teams later regretted very much. The Beatles, who at that time were on the verge of collapse, did not participate in the festival either.

№5

Singer Joan Baez, who closed the first day of the festival, performed when she was six months pregnant.

№6

Three people died during Woodstock (one was overdosed, the second was hit by a tractor, and the third fell to his death, falling from building structures), two children were born and b was conceived, according to rumors, about 200 thousand children.

№7

In 1970 a documentary film Woodstock was released about the festival. 3 days of peace and music, which won the 1971 Oscar for Best Documentary and also won nominations for Best Sound and Editing. Among the team of editors was, by the way, the future star directed by Martin Scorsese.

The couple on the cover of Woodstock, are still together! According to The Mirror newspaper, Nick and Bobby Ercoline are now 60 years old, they got married in 1971 and have not parted since. According to Nick, this photograph embodies the spirit of that era for him and is a collective image of their entire generation. Bobby’s memories of the legendary festival are less poetic, she remembers “rain, mud and lack of toilets.”

Let’s remember 19The 60s with designers and designer brands: an unforgettable time of the psychedelic revolution and flower children, beatniks and hippies, Woodstock and Ken Kesey’s acid tests. Bright objects with flowers, “Pacifics”, LOVE inscriptions and other symbols of the 1960s will bring peace and love to your home. Times change, but the main thing is the same: ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE!

The history of Woodstock: how the legendary music festival appeared

Woodstock 1969

Woodstock-19 festival69″ was an unprecedented event in the world of music, which attracted a record 500,000 viewers. These four days at the dairy farm of Max Yasgur became a real celebration of peace, love and music, for a short time turning all the guests into one huge colorful family. There were long-haired hippies, Ken Kesey’s “Merry Pranksters”, and even Yippie rebels, led by their revolutionary leader Abbie Hoffman.

Woodstock 1969

It seemed that nothing could destroy the fantastic atmosphere of the festival: people were ready to stand in many kilometers of traffic jams to come to the farm, tear down fences for unhindered passage and share food with each other, erecting field kitchens. The spirit of unity reigned at Woodstock – unity with nature, people around and, of course, with music. Of course, there were some banned substances, promiscuous relationships and provocative antics of rebels, but this did not interfere with the general euphoria, but rather was even part of it. At the end of the hippie era, the “flower children” got their own festival. A festival that no one has yet been able to repeat (even the organizers of the legendary Woodstock-1969″).

Fantastic Four

Michael Lang

It’s hard to believe today, but the festival was created by four young people, the oldest of whom was only 27 years old at the time of Woodstock. It all started with the fact that Michael Lang – who in those days fully corresponded to the image of a barefoot hippie with a mop of curly hair and without a penny in his pocket – began to dream of a commune away from big cities, where musicians could create for their own pleasure. He was very interested in music himself and was even the manager of the band Tgain from San Francisco. In his dreams, Michael already imagined this “hippie paradise” in all colors, but there was one problem. He did not have the money to implement an ambitious project.

Some time later, Michael met Artie Kornfield, vice president of repertoire at Capitol, and was surprised to find his like-minded person in him. Young people got excited about the idea of creating a music studio at Woodstock, which will open its doors to all talented performers of good music. It remains to find sponsors.

Woodstock organizers (clockwise from bottom left): Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfield, Michael Lang and John Roberts. First official joint portrait, 23 May 1969 years

Meanwhile, in New York, John Roberts, the heir to a pharmaceutical company, and his friend Joel Rosenman puzzled over the opposite question – where would Roberts’ money be best invested? Lacking any ideas of their own, they ran an ad in the New York Times that read, “Young people with unlimited capital are looking for exciting, legitimate investment opportunities and business opportunities.” Needless to say, in the first days after publication, a bunch of offers from poor seekers of happiness and easy money literally fell on them. But, by some miracle, among this heap of crazy and charlatan ideas, Roberts and Rosenman caught the eye of Lang and Kornfield’s proposal. “Why not?” they decided. After the meeting of four young people on February 19For 69 years, the idea of making a music studio has grown into an even more ambitious and consistent plan: to organize a three-day rock festival for 50,000 people, and with the proceeds from it to build a large cultural center with recording studios and a retreat for musicians. Then Michael, Artie, John and Joel had no idea what difficulties they had to face, and what this idea would lead to at all.

Problems, problems, problems…

So, four young people started organizing a music festival. They immediately found the perfect location for it, an industrial park near Wallkill, New York. With their own money, they also printed tickets ($7 for one day; $13 for two and $18 for three days), which were sold in small local shops and post offices. In a word, each of these “fantastic four” became a man-orchestra for several months: it was necessary to resolve all issues with the owners of the territory, arrange food delivery, find musicians and persuade them to perform at an unknown festival, and also hire all the necessary employees – from service personnel to security services. Today, such events are organized by huge teams, which can include more than 100 people. But at 19The 1960s had not yet formed a culture of big festivals, Michael, Artie, John and Joel were in fact the pioneers, whose level of enthusiasm went through the roof.

Waiting for a bus to Woodstock, August 13, 1969

However, enthusiasm alone failed to leave. Almost immediately, problems began with the venue for the festival. As soon as the people of Wallkill learned that thousands of dirty hippies would soon descend on their city, they were horrified. They were ready to defend their city to the last. Perhaps if “Woodstock” did take place in the vicinity of Wallkill, the angry residents of the city and local farmers would come out at midnight with pitchforks and torches and staged a real “massacre” against strangers. But the authorities took action in time, releasing July 2, 1969 year law effectively banning concerts in the area.

Panic broke out among those involved in the organization of the festival: shops refused to sell tickets to Woodstock, and negotiations with most of the musicians came to a standstill. There was a month and a half left before the festival. To top it all off, the people who bought the tickets began to demand a refund of their cost. Woodstock was on the brink of collapse.

Woodstock 1969

Fortunately, in mid-July, Max Yasgur offered his 600-acre dairy farm in Bethel as a venue for the festival. It was a real success for the organizers. However, the change of location at the last moment still made them pretty nervous: they had to conclude new contracts for the lease of the dairy farm and surrounding areas, as well as obtain permission to hold the festival in the city. The construction of a stage and a pavilion for performers, car parks, concession stands and a children’s playground – all this had very little time left. The preparatory work was supposed to end literally on the day the Woodstock began. But, of course, they didn’t manage to finish something – the ticket offices and gates remained unfinished.

The road leading to the dairy farm on the eve of Woodstock 1969

It also turned out unexpectedly that the expected number of guests (50,000 people) had quadrupled. It would seem that this is good news. But not for the organizers, who already have a lot of problems. It became clear that the amount of food supplies that were ordered initially would not be enough.

And literally on the eve of the start of the festival, it became clear that there would also be big problems with security. On the morning of 15 August 19For 69 years, three large buses with police officers arrived at the dairy farm, each of whom was promised $ 50 for work at Woodstock. And when they were ready to begin their duties, the authorities announced to them that everyone who remained at the festival would subsequently face trouble in the service. The police officers calmly turned around, climbed back into the buses and left. However, some still remained – but under fictitious names, in order to avoid unnecessary problems. “We had eight or nine Mickeys or something like that,” said a waiter at a local hotel.

Four days America will never forget

Woodstock 1969

Woodstock 1969

On Wednesday (two days before the festival) about 50,000 people had already camped near the stage. These first guests entered Woodstock for free, climbing through a hole in the fence where they had not yet installed a gate. The organizers were not ready for such a turn of events. How to get fifty thousand people to leave the fenced area, buy tickets and go back in a civilized way? Obviously, this was not possible. But it was only half the trouble. A precedent was set, and rumors that Woodstock was completely free to enter spread like lightning in neighboring cities. As a result, tens of thousands of people rushed to Max Yasgur’s farm, and many kilometers of traffic jams formed on the access roads to the festival. People abandoned their cars and walked. Soon the fence separating the festival area was knocked down. And along with it, the organizers’ dreams of making money were destroyed. However, the “flower children” were delighted: the commodity-money relations they hated disappeared from the concept of “Woodstock-1969″.

“On Friday morning, there was a feeling of a blockade: if it was very difficult to get to the festival, then it was completely impossible to go back,” said E. Kopkind. Blocked roads created difficulties in getting artists to Woodstock. The organizers had to rent helicopters to help them get to the stage. In the following days, the missions of these aircraft only expanded. The police, like kind angels, dropped food, drinks and waterproof raincoats from the cockpits of helicopters, because it was completely unrealistic to break through the crowd on the ground.

Woodstock 1969

Yet despite the difficulties, Woodstock started almost on time. On Friday evening, August 15, Richie Havens took the stage and announced the beginning of the festival, and in his parting word he asked the “children of flowers” that there be nothing but “fun and music” for these three days. Sweetwater, Joan Baez and other famous performers of the time delighted guests with their music at sunset.

Carlos Santana and John Brown at Woodstock 1969

The musical performances resumed shortly after noon on Saturday and continued until the break at 9 am on Sunday. And in the afternoon, such stars as Santana, Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead and, of course, The Who took to the stage. Despite the fact that the officially planned three-day festival came to an end, the performances of the musicians went on until the morning of the next day. On Monday at dawn Jimi Hendrix played his songs, putting an end to the history of “Woodstock-1969”. This legendary performance has gone down in rock and roll history forever.

Woodstock 1969

Despite the sheer lack of sanitation, hour-long lines to the toilets, lack of food and heavy rain, all visitors to Woodstock felt truly happy. “When you talk to people who have been there, as they get to the seventh heaven of their memory, where Woodstock is located, they are inspired as if they are retelling a mystical event,” Gene Young wrote.

The police later said that about 450,000 people visited Woodstock in 1969, but the festival guests themselves say the figure is almost twice as much – 800,000. One way or another, Woodstock became a real sensation of that time. Within nine months of its completion, about 200,000 illegitimate children were born. It was the beginning of the sexual revolution and the end of the “hippie era”.

Woodstock 1969

After Woodstock

The organizers of Woodstock were stunned by the event, but they didn’t even have time to enjoy the fact that they created the most popular music festival in history, as they first of all faced $1 million in debt and 70 lawsuits that have been filed against them. But to their great relief, a film about the festival, released a year later, won universal love and even won an Oscar at 1971 years. And most importantly, that the profit from it covered most of their debts.

Woodstock 1969

Of course, it was a sin not to repeat such a cult festival. Therefore, several attempts have been made to revive Woodstock and its phenomenal atmosphere. But none of them can be called truly successful.

1. Local Park Party

  • Pros- Usually Free. Usually have a grill, a covered eating area for shade and lots of places for kids to scream their guts out in the open air and play.
  • Cons- Bad weather or hot temperatures can ruin your party.
  • How to Book a Party: Google your local Park and Rec department.  Give them a call and ask about how to reserve your spot at the park.

2. Neighborhood Pool Party

  • Hosting a party at your local neighborhood pool can be great because if you live in the neighborhood you most likely use it for free or for a nominal fee.
  • We have attended several parties at community pools and I enjoy them because the pool is on the small side making it easy to keep up with the kids.  There are lots of adults around to help keep an eye on swimmers and it can make for a nice, warm, fun environment where the kids can entertain themselves for several hours.
  • How to Book a Party: Contact the HOA or community contact person.

3. Indoor Bounce House Place Party

  • Indoor bounce house places are usually large buildings that have 3-10 inflatable jump slides, relays, and moonwalks.
  • Pros- Keeps the party inside so weather doesn’t really matter.  Kids can go crazy and be as loud as they want.  They can jump and climb and it’s not on your furniture.
  • Cons- Smaller places are fine, bigger places may have parents trying to watch their kids like a hawk, especially on really busy days.
  • How to Book a Party: Just Google Indoor Bounce House Places and see what is nearby.   One large national chain of bounce house centers is Monkey Joes.

4. Indoor Trampoline Center Party

  • Not going to lie, even as an adult I love these places.  Imagine a building with wall to wall and floor to floor trampolines?
  • My husband and I even used to go one of these in Atlanta on date night because it was exercise and fun!
  • These are amazing party places because it doesn’t really matter the weather outside you can still have the party.
  • Kids get to run, jump, yell and play for several hours.
  • Some of the places I have been to also have trampoline dodge ball arenas which makes this perfect as a Teen birthday party place. Plus foam square pools where you jump on the trampoline and hurl yourself in a giant pit of foam squares (think old school Double Dare).
  • How to Book a Party: Google Indoor Trampoline Center or the most popular national chain of these is Sky Zone.

5. Yogurt or Sweets Shop Party

  • For my twins first birthday party, I wanted to do something fun, special and simple for them.
  • While walking around in my local downtown I found a cute little sweets shop that had a self-serve frozen yogurt bar, popcorn bar or cupcakes.
  • I called them up and asked about having a small party there and they were most accommodating.
  • The best part is that unlike other yogurt stores, the prices were flat based on the cup size instead of being weighed.  It made checkout very easy.  Each guest got their order and the gals at the register kept a list of who had chosen what.
  • At the end of the party, I only spent $105.00 on all my guests to hang out in a nice, intimate location and enjoy a simple treat on us.
  • How to Book a Party: The best way to move forward is to locate a sweets or yogurt shop and find out about what party options they have or ways you can make your party work there.
  1. Science Center Party
  • Doing a quick Google search should let you know if there are any local science centers in your area.   These places may be big or small but they offer tons of awesome hands-on science activities and usually have large climb and play structures for kids.
  • How to Find a Science Center: You can use this Find a Science Center Search from the Association of Science-Technology Centers to find all the options near where you live.

7. Imax Theatre Party

  • IMAX is huge screen and can offer a very unique movie experience that not all your kids have had before.
  • Some movies are more education and others are pure entertainment.
  • How to Book a Party: To learn more about throwing a party, search for your local Imax location and find out if the one nearest you host parties.

8. Movie Theatre Party

  • Keeping it simple, you might just want to take a group of kids to your local movie theatre to see the lastest kids flix.
  • Each theatre has different options but it is one out of the box way to keep a bunch of kids occupied for two hours.
  • How to Book a Party: Here are a list of party hosting pages for most of the major US movie theatres.
    • AMC Theatre Celebrations
    • Cinemark Movie Theatre Birthday Parties
    • Regal Cinemas Birthday Parties

9. YMCA Party

  • When walking to my YMCA group fitness class the other day I saw a flyer for hosting birthday parties.
  • Every YMCA usually offers most activities, classes, camps or parties at a member price and a non-member price.
  • In our case, as members, we were able to host my son’s indoor inflatable/pool birthday party for 20 guests for $125.  The even covered the host, the plates, napkins and ice cream.
  • Our YMCA has an indoor pool so that would work for any weather situation.  Our old YMCA in Atlanta had an outdoor waterpark which would have been a ton of fun as well.
  • How to Book a Party: Check with one of your local YMCA locations to see what kind of party options they have that might appeal to, the season of the year and your child the most.

10. Chuck E Cheese Party

Every 90’s kid’s birthday party place dream, Chuck E Cheese is still around and they are pretty darn affordable for parties.

11. Pizza Hut Party

Another thrifty pizza party option you may not have considered was your local Pizza Hut.

  • Being that it’s a national chain, you should be able to find one close by unless you live extremely rurally.
  • According the website kids get the unlimited salad bar, two kids menus, and unlimited ice cream.
  • How to Book a Party: Visit the Pizza Hut Kids and Family Birthday Party informational page.

12. McDonalds Party

  • And because McDonald’s is EVERYWHERE, you should be able to find a location to fit your party needs no matter where you live.
  • How to Book a Party: Find out more about McDonalds PlayPlace & Parties.

13. Skating Rink Party

  • I’m not going to lie, the last time I went to a skating party I realized how things had changed from when I was 10-year-old sailing my way around the skating rink (which was a million times better than skating in my driveway).
  • As the party started, I noticed kids as old as middle school going around the rink in what looked like tiny PVC walkers.  Like walkers that people use for mobility support.  That’s what these were, walkers for kids and adults to use while the skated so they could keep from falling.
  • I remember the days when you had to learn to skate by clinging to the walk and busting your rear end a few times before you got the hang of it.
  • Okay, middle age rant over— skating parties are still around and are still fun, walker and all.
  • How to Book a Party: Call your local skate rink and ask about party options.

14. Bowling Alley Party

  • Another great “classic” party option is bowling.
  • It gets the kids off their devices and gets them hurling heavy balls down an ally.
  • These days many bowling alleys offer black light rooms or areas which make it much more fun and festive for kids.
  • How to Book a Party: Call your local Bowling Alley and see what party options they offer.

15. Dance School Party

  • Got a group that likes to dance?
  • Maybe they want to learn some fun moves?
  • How to Book a Party: Call your local dance schools to see what kinds of parties you can throw at their location!

16.

Spa Day Party

  • If you’ve got a group that loves to be pampered, consider hosting your party at the local spa where the kids can get mani’s or pedi’s as a group.
  • If doing this out isn’t in your budget, consider doing it in with my post on How to Throw a Thrifty Spa Party.
  • How to Book a Party: Call and ask if they have group rates or party options for their spa location.

17. Gymnastics Center Party

  • Similar to indoor jump house parties, many gymnastics centers have party options.
  • It’s a way to get the kids to burn off some energy from all the party sugar in a padded and safe environment that’s not your house! HAHA
  • It’s also a party option that isn’t affected by the weather outside.
  • How to Book a Party: Give your local places a call or check out their websites for party information.

18. Aquatic Center Party

  • When I lived in the burbs of Atlanta, they built a county-owned Aquatic Center down the street from the house.
  • It was AMAZING!!  Slides, lazy rivers, pool playground!!
  • After that location opened I discovered that we actually had several other aquatic centers in town that I didn’t even know existed.
  • These parties can be super fun but they do require a lot more adult attention and supervision due to the kids playing in the water.
  • On the flip side, these can be a bummer if there is rain or thunder that shows up the day of the party.
  • How to Book a Party: These parties can also be super thrifty compared to a privately owned theme park style water park.

19. Craft Store Birthday Party

  • This is one of my favorite birthday party place because I’m a crafty gal.
  • Many local craft stores have classrooms for craft classes but you can also often rent these rooms for parties.
  • In fact, Michaels craft stores offer some really fun party packs at their store locations.
  • How to Book a Party: You can read more here about Birthday Parties at Micheals.

20. Pottery Paint Store Party

  • Another trend that is popping up in big and small towns around the US are pottery painting places.
  • These little shops have been around for over 10 years now but provide a great environment for crafty fun that someone else gets to clean up.
  • How to Book a Party: Google “Pottery Painting Studio” in your area and reach out to them for more information.

21. Theme Park or Water Park Party

  • If you live in a town with a big or small theme park, consider hosting a party there for the day.  Due to ticket prices, you may not be able to take your kids whole baseball team, but you may be able to make a special day with a few good friends.
  • How to Book a Party: Call and ask about group rate discounts or party options.

22. Take Advantage of Seasonal Events & Festivals

  • Depending on when your child has a birthday, there may be some super unique seasonal festivities that you could take your group to that would be fun, special or outside the box because they are seasonal.   Check your local town’s calendar of events.
  • Consider calling and asking about group rates or party pricing.
  • Here are some examples of seasonal style events:
    • Festivals
    • Carnivals
    • Theatres Plays or Productions
    • Christmas Light Displays
    • Movies on the Green
    • Ice Skating Rinks
    • Haunted Houses
