Sebezh: Castle Hill – darriuss — LiveJournal A formidable new wooden fortress, more than a century earlier.

“The Chronicle of Polish, Lithuanian, Zhemoytskaya and all Russia” by Maciej Stryikovsky under 1414 describes the next campaign of the Grand Duke Vitovt to the Pskov lands. Having gathered the “army of the Commonwealth,” Vitovt crossed the Western Dvina near Drissa (modern Verkhnedvinsk) and laid siege to Sebezh, a suburb of Pskov (Siebież, przygrodek Pskowski). Apparently, Sebezh was one of the Pskov border fortresses (which was Kolozha destroyed by Vytautas in 1406, and which will be Opochka). Vitovt took it and in the 15th century it was mostly part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

XVI-XVII centuries – the time of constant change of owners by Sebezh. In 1535, it was captured by the Moscow army led by Vasily Shuisky, and the construction of new wooden fortifications began on Castle Hill. The outpost of the Grand Duchy of Moscow was named Ivangorod-on-Sebezh, supposedly in honor of John the Baptist, but we actually know in honor of whom. Since 1623, Sebezh has Magdeburg rights, it is no longer a fortress, but a full-fledged city. In the Russian Empire, it became a county, and now a district center in the Pskov region.

Zamkovaya Hill is a narrow (50-150 meters), long and high cape, which protrudes into Lake Sebezhskoye and divides it into two unequal halves. The county buildings, the grid of crooked streets are well preserved here, there is a relic of the times of the Radziwills and the Commonwealth, there are practically no foreign modern inclusions, and from the very edge of the cape, where the Pskov, Moscow and Lithuanian fortresses were once located, wonderful panoramic views of the Sebezh Lake edge. The atmosphere of Old Sebezh is very well preserved here, and how familiar it turned out to be.

Sebezh received the first coat of arms along with the Magdeburg rights in the same year as Nevel on March 22, 1623 from the King of Poland and the Grand Duke of Lithuania Zhigimont III Vasa. In the blue field of the baroque shield is Samson tearing the mouth of a golden lion. The Russian coat of arms of Sebezh is a clone of Nevel and Velizh. In the upper part – the imperial double-headed eagle, in the lower half – “Pursuit”.

Sebezh Castle – in this series.

1. The photo, kindly provided to me by the Internet, clearly shows how Sebezh is arranged. The main part of the city lies on the isthmus between the lakes Sebezhsky (above) and Orono (a fragment is visible in the lower right corner). From the left (from the station) to the right, 7 November Street passes, ending with the triangular Lenin Square. In this series, we are interested in the upper appendix floating in the waters of Lake Sebezh: it was here that the city arose.

2. Sebezh is a very picturesque city with excellent views of the Castle Hill from several points. For example, here is how it looks from Chelyuskintsev Street (this is the exit to the former Drissa).

3. And here is the view from the second Sebezh mountain – Petrovskaya. The whole cape and the nature of its contents are clearly visible.

4. The same, but before the revolution.

5. In the center of the mountain there are two largest sights of Sebezh – on the right is the bell tower of the destroyed Orthodox Church of the Nativity, on the left is the top of the Trinity Church, now the church of the same name.

6. The most postcard views of the Sebezh Castle are on the lake embankment. Behind me was Lenin Square.

7. The towers of the Trinity Church are practically invisible from here – it is low and covered with vegetation, but the cathedral bell tower stands out, and its shape is such that without a cathedral it looks more like a tower of a Renaissance church or castle.

8. The main street of the Castle Hill Proletarskaya, before the revolution of Peter the Great. Closer to the center, between it and the lake, there is a park: in old-world times, it was all called the “Boulevard”. Apparently there was also an audience flitting back and forth.

9. Some kind of crap, probably from the time of the struggle for Soviet power.

10. The opposite side of Proletarskaya square is built up with a good pre-revolutionary building.

11. Profitable house of Borovik of the beginning of the 20th century.

12. On Fridays at the local employment center, complete catharsis. As I understand them.

13. Access to the opposite front embankment of the northern half of the lake. Here, too, gazebos, swans and everything is very comfortable. On the other side there are luxurious cottages for the Pskov region.

14. We go up the hill along Proletarskaya.

15. Approximately the same angle from another life. The complex of the Nativity Cathedral (1841-64) halved behind the Soviet hour is clearly visible.

16. View towards the center.

17. The cathedral was demolished in 1932, since then the bell tower has stood alone, and this loneliness suits her: Castle Hill really becomes like a castle hill.

18. The tower was restored during the Soviet Union, in 1987, and you can even go upstairs. If you find it first and then persuade the local priest holding the keys to it.

19. The mountain is very narrow and behind the first line of houses you can already see the lake from both sides.

20. The lake in the perspective of the streets, the lake as a background for old wooden houses, the lake in Stary Sebezh was everywhere.

21.

22.

23. At the bell tower, one main street turns into two parallel ones (Sovetskaya is added to Proletarskaya). The first rests on the Trinity Church, gradually appearing behind the top of the mountain.

24.

25. Proletarian towards the modern center.

26. Alas, pre-revolutionary women are often in a terrible state.

27.

28.

29. Trinity Church, former Church of the Holy Trinity and St. Anthony, the oldest building in the city, was built in 1649 on the foundation of one of the Radziwills. It probably acquired its modern appearance in the second half of the 18th century.

30. This is a rare surviving example of the Vilna Baroque in Russia. The sample is not the most, frankly, successful: the towers obviously lack the third tier, but we have what we have.

31. Near the church there is a small square with a bus terminus. Sebezh has one or two intracity public transport routes: despite its only 6,000 inhabitants, it is extremely sprawling, and you can walk for hours from the station to Zamkovaya Gora.

32. An interesting, hard-to-date house near the church.

33. The castle is even further away. On the street leading there, a thick layer of fresh asphalt has been laid, but a brukovka would have gone much better for her.

34. Old houses on rubble stone foundations.

35. The castle occupies the very edge of the highest part of this cape.

36. No, this is not an archaeological site. There used to be a good memorial sign in honor of the founding of the city, installed in 1978 and representing three metal swords against a stone background. This seemed not enough to local mankurts, and they decided to erect a 12-meter cross here instead, in connection with which they dug out a hole in the center of the castle of non-acidic sizes for the foundation of the cross, destroying at the same time the cultural layer accumulated by the ancestors. The local concerned public raised a fuss about this, and at the time of our arrival, work was suspended. The pit was bashfully covered with a lid. Everything in Sebezh is so ours, dear, and the architecture, and the atmosphere, and the environment, and the vandal authorities who control it all.

37. But what a view from here! Here on this top and a stone castle – it would be even cooler than in Troki.

38. And there are no ships yet. In Lithuania, on the Trakai lake system, there are sailboats, and boats, and scooters, and motor ships, but here everything is almost in its original form, as it was six centuries ago. However, in fairness, in Soviet times, judging by the old Sebezh photographs, some kind of ship sailed on the lake.

39. The very tip of the castle cape from the top of the mountain. By the way, it points to the east.

40. An island in Lake Sebezh.

41. And this is how the city looks from the mountain. With rare brick exceptions, this is what Sebezh always looked like. Over the centuries.

42. And I, who usually can’t stand “wooden architecture”, was imbued with this veracity of the environment.

47. It remains only to see the second main local street parallel to Proletarskaya Sovetskaya. Here, pre-revolutionary women survived even more.

It’s time to go back there. The next ten posts will be again from the limits of the crystal vessel, the country of eternal rivalry between the rotary harvester and threshing. Let’s start with our northernmost regional center.

Hello friends! On the air “Big Journey” and I, Stanislav Kucher. The European capital, where we will go today, is located in such a beautiful and comfortable place for living that the first large settlement arose here already in the first century BC. It was founded by the ancient Celts and whoever has lived here since then: Romans, Ostrogoths, Huns, Avars, Turks. If you have not yet guessed which city we are talking about, here is a hint for you: the capital with its current name appeared in only 1873 after the unification of three cities – Pest, Obuda and Buda. Well, of course, our goal today is the largest and most beautiful city in Hungary, Budapest. Go!

I remind you that in this series of programs, one of my tasks is to show that even with the current exchange rate of the ruble, a trip to European capitals can be quite affordable, the main thing is to correctly calculate the cost of housing and car rental. Budapest, in this sense, will pleasantly surprise you, even against the backdrop of the capitals of the Baltic countries. You can rent a small car “Citroen” or “Renault” in the Hungarian capital for only 15-20 euros per day, including all insurance! Approximately the same amount will cost an overnight stay in one of the many cozy hostels, which, according to my observations, are more in Budapest than in any other European capital. Here you can easily find an excellent clean room from ten euros per night, and not somewhere on the outskirts, but in the center. Separately, I recommend three options: Lol Boutique Hostel, Animation City Hostel and Full Moon Design Hostel. In all three, you can rent a separate bed in a tidy common room (7-8 euros) or a beautiful private room (10-20 euros).

The uniqueness of Budapest for history buffs is that monuments from every era have been preserved here, which for two thousand years have survived the settlements that formed it on the western and eastern banks of the Danube. Of course, the main development of the city took place in the 19th century, however, if desired, adherents of entertaining archeology can even touch the ruins of buildings that were built by the ancient Romans.

I recommend starting to recharge with the energy of Budapest from the Castle Hill located in the Buda area. There is everything you need to enrich the mind, spirit and body – fortresses, palaces, museums, churches, the Habsburg staircase, many cafes and restaurants. It also offers an impressive view of the city and the panorama of the Danube. Remembering the body, by the way, I had in mind not so much Hungarian cuisine as an excellent workout for the legs. In my opinion, a great way to get to Castle Hill is not by bus, not by subway, and not even by car, but by walking from the side of the Chain Bridge, in the Pest area. If the thought of climbing on foot causes you an internal rebellion, then from seven in the morning to ten in the evening you can climb to the top along the cable car built back in the century before last. And even better – climb on foot, take a walk to your heart’s content, have a hearty lunch, meet the sunset at the top and go down already on the funicular. Yes, perhaps this is the perfect compromise for those who are not too lazy.

One of the interesting places in the area to visit with school-age children is the labyrinth of Buda’s Castle Hills. It’s funny, by the way – there are always tourists who forget that Buda is a district of the city and, once on a hill, ask where the statue of Prince Siddhartha, the founder of Buddhism, is here. The labyrinth is an artificially created space of underground passages with a length of about one and a half kilometers with a corridor of Count Dracula, an archaeological museum, rock paintings and intriguing music. Of course, this dungeon is more like an amusement park than real catacombs, but children are always delighted. Especially if before that they had to walk with you around “adult” museums such as the Royal Palace and the Fisherman’s Bastion.

I advise you to devote at least a full day of light to a walk along the most famous street in Budapest – Andrássy Avenue. This is a real treasure trove of Neo-Renaissance, the uplifting architectural style in which most of the local buildings are made. The avenue connects two legendary squares – Erzhebet and Heroes. You can read about the history of the Heroes’ Square, where hundreds of thousands of people gathered at different times from Batu’s campaign to the rallies of the late 80s, in any guidebook. And this is the case when I recommend really reading a lot, and then just sitting here for thirty minutes and, letting your imagination run wild, travel back in time. By the way, the unique hourglass installed in 2004 reminds of how quickly, or, conversely, how slowly time can flow on the Heroes’ Square. They are turned over only on New Year’s Eve, so if you wish, your meditation on running sand can stretch for a whole year.

Well, of course, it is impossible to talk about Budapest without mentioning the Hungarians’ national pride – the Széchenyi baths. 11 swimming pools and three saunas. Thermal springs, allowing you to relax here even in winter, and the splendor of the surrounding architecture. Perhaps this is the best man-made park in the world for those who, like me, love water so much that they are ready to plunge into any fountain during their trip, and not only on the day of the paratrooper.

And finally. The place is not for everyone, but it was here that I once quite unexpectedly heard the wisdom that I always remember. Communist Sculpture Park. Statues of theorists and practitioners of building communism brought from all over Budapest. I sat down on a bench with a view of the huge Lenin. Nearby is an old man of about eighty with a pipe in his teeth and a blissful smile on his wrinkled face. I spoke to him in English, but he cheerfully switched to excellent Russian. I can’t retell the whole conversation, but it ended like this. “When I was in prison in the 60s for anti-Soviet propaganda, I made myself out of clay about twenty of the same Lenins, Marxes, Engels. The authorities did not mind, so they stood in my corner of the cell. And I admired them and imagined how one day they would free the center of my native city from such statues, but they would not smash them, but would take them to a special place, like that corner of my “cell”! And thirty years later it happened! Thought is material, comrade, you just need to know exactly what to think about!”

The height of the Castle Hill in Pegnitz is 544 meters, so the views of the surroundings from it are wonderful. From the formidable castle, which was once located on a mountain and was called Bohemian, as it belonged to the king of Bohemia (until 1402), not a stone remained. It was destroyed in 1553 during a popular uprising. But much later, an iron structure was built – an observatory tower (Aussichtsturm), from which the views are even better than from the hill itself. Having overcome the 97 steps of the tower, they can be appreciated.

Castle Hill often hosts the city’s most important festivals – the Gregori Children’s Festival (Gregori), the Forest Festival (Waldstockfestival) and the youth festival “Summer Night” (Sommernachtsfest der Jugend).

And today we had a matinee! Everything is well organized as always! All the children were satisfied, even our crybaby bunny! On the way back home, they sang a ding-ding-dong song (we don’t know more words), and now she lined up plush animals in a row and builds a tower from a designer. Many thanks to Lena for her work, for her patience with the children, for her attention and understanding!

We would like to once again congratulate the staff of the Children’s Academy on the upcoming holiday!

              Mother Katerina

I would like to write about what I really liked about the “Academy”, my baby and I went from September 2012 to March 2013, we ended up in Lena’s group. Started walking at 8 months. I would like to thank Lena separately, she is very sensitive to the conduct of classes, it is clear that she does it with her soul. Classes pass quickly, the kids do not have time to get tired, they complete tasks, you can see how the kids develop before our eyes. In general, it’s great that there are such early development studios and such wonderful teachers as Lena. It was a pleasure to attend your classes. Thanks a lot.

              Nikita’s mother, Alena

to our teacher Olga Gennadievna – for pedagogical skills,

inexhaustible enthusiasm and beautiful vocals; to our music worker Katya – for professionalism and coherence

in pair work with a teacher; to our administrator Alla Petrovna – for understanding and kindness to children; as well as the entire administration of the center – for the excellent team

              Olga

Many thanks to Olga Gennadievna and Olesya Viktorovna for their patience, endurance, work and love for our children and their work. The vocal data of Olga Gennadievna cause a special delight. And also to the director for organizing the work at the proper level. Thank you!

              Dan Arseniy and relatives

I would like to thank our teacher. Classes with Elena Sergeevna are always like a holiday, to be honest))).

Cheerful, energetic, upbeat. She always finds the right word for everyone in any situation. For both kids and moms. In the first lesson, she very quickly included both her son and me in the process.
The teacher is always in a good mood. Although you can see a little how hard it is for her in the evening hours. We go to the evening group.
Elena Sergeevna – well done! Mom Olya

Thank you for the wonderful organization of the learning process for our children. Excellent teaching staff, excellent base. Good luck to you and prosperity to the “Children’s Academy”.

              Uskova N.N.

Olga Valerievna and Lena! Many thanks to you for the competent organization of classes. We really like to come to you, because. you find your own approach to each child and mothers with children feel comfortable next to you. I wish you success and more active, diligent and cheerful students and mothers!!!

              Zychkov Matvey and mother Nastya

Thank you for the wonderful lessons! Thanks to your center the child has become more developed and musical. He is always upset when classes end – this means that the main thing is that the child likes it !!!

              Karpenko D.

We are very grateful to the staff of the “Children’s Academy”! For active participation, help in teaching our Dasha and other children. I really enjoy watching the development of different abilities in a child. Little geniuses grow up under your leadership. Thank you very much. We will visit the center and recommend it to everyone. Good luck and prosperity to you.

Family Zhidenko S. and L., Dasha

I liked everything very much! Great teachers, great classes! We are very satisfied. Noticeable progress in the development of the child. I don’t even want to part with you on vacation.

              E.Lapina

Many thanks, “Children’s Academy”! You are graduating real academics, smart and capable children, ready for all the difficulties of our life! I would like to express special gratitude to our teacher Elena Sergeevna and musical director Olesya Viktorovna. Thank you so much for loving our children!

              Yours sincerely Vasilyeva E.

I’m also in a hurry to share the successes of my son, I noticed at home: he started spinning (during class, Olesya Viktorovna says to the music: “circling, spinning” now we are constantly spinning), he tries to rotate his head, he learned to send air kisses, before pens they didn’t bend like that, to the notes and hello and bye (they also pasted them at home), they went to the doctor like that in general, I never even cried, this is generally nonsense !!!! And this is after the first lesson with Dr. Aibolit from the puppet theater, and much more and only a month passed, I am very grateful to the teacher for this !!!!

              Mother Natalia.

Olga Valerievna, Katya, another teacher who was our “five” and, of course, you-Sasha!!! Thank you for a wonderful matinee!!! The child is delighted!! Me, grandma and dad too))) Happy holidays to all of you!! We look forward to seeing you in the new academic year!!!

              Mother Julia

Today we went to classes for the second time, my son and mother are very happy!!! After the first lesson, when he came home, my child constantly asked, mom, when will we go to the Academy. Olga Gennadievna, big smart girl!!! My son is delighted with her!

Satisfaction is something that we all want from our jobs. Working with children offers the potential to find exactly that, especially if you love kids. And there are plenty of possibilities. When it comes to careers involving children, the variety is wider than ever.

After all, in 2018, America was already home to 73.4 million young people under 18. And by 2050, that number could rise by an additional 4.8 million, according to the Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics. Plus, just think of the extra support that kids require in comparison to adults. They are in the earliest stages of their development. So each child relies on a diverse assortment of adult professionals—either directly or indirectly.

That’s why many jobs involving children are in career fields with strong demand and good employment prospects. And many of them allow people to benefit from their day-to-day work with kids in other significant ways. In fact, they often have unique advantages.

So check out this list of careers working with children that offer benefits, including a sense of purpose, exposure to fresh perspectives, high pay, and lots of fun. You can read more about these great benefits here.

Some kids have physical, cognitive, or physical disabilities that make it difficult for them to live normal day-to-day lives. By helping them improve their motor skills or other basic functions, you could give them better opportunities to succeed in school, play with other children, and grow into thriving and confident young people.

              14. Pediatric nutritionist or dietitian

As an expert on nutrition, you could help parents and schools choose the best foods for their children and students’ health and development. Plus the seven percent job growth projected from 2021 to 2031 is considered as fast as average.*

Jobs with Kids That Offer Out-of-the-box Perspectives:

              15.

              Nanny/childcare provider

Many parents in America are full-time professionals or business owners who choose to keep working at a high level when they have children. And that creates a lot of opportunities for childcare workers who want to look after or help raise the same kids day after day. In a lot of cases, nannies even get to live in the households where they work. As a result, nannies often develop deep bonds with kids and enjoy experiencing their more innocent outlooks on life. Many nannies also receive free or discounted room and board.

              16. Cosmetologist

Hairstylists and other beauty professionals often get to carry out their services on children and engage them in fun and memorable conversations. Your income potential can also grow substantially by starting your own salon or mobile service.

              17.

              Barber

Like cosmetologists, barbers also frequently have opportunities to engage kids in interesting or wild discussions. Some barbershops are known for exactly that. Yearly wages can significantly increase if you become the owner of a barbershop.

              18. Museum educator (self-enrichment teacher)

If you’ve been to popular museums, then you know that kids usually make up a large percentage of their visitors, especially on days with school field trips. So just imagine all the wide-eyed curiosity and inspired conversations that take place between kids and museum guides.

              19. Art therapist

By fostering creative self-expression in troubled kids, you could help them discover more about themselves as they learn how to talk about or cope with the challenges in their lives. Plus, you’ll likely get to see just how diverse the imaginations and inner lives of children really are.

              20. Family therapist

Counselors in this field often devise creative strategies for helping children express their feelings, concerns, and desires. Through therapy, kids often provide windows into fascinating inner worlds that remind us what it’s like to be young.

              21. Radiologic technologist/technician

Children tend to have a lot of energy. So when they’re active, many of them play hard and take risks. As a result, many kids break bones or get other internal injuries that require diagnostic images. That’s why being an x-ray technician or MRI technologist can mean getting to interact with children as they tell their stories of adventure.

              22. Librarian

Introducing young people to the magic and power of books and other sources of stories and knowledge can be highly rewarding. As you help them discover new wonders, they often reflect that sense of possibility.

Joyful and Fun Jobs with Kids:

              23. Recreation worker

Many communities have parks and recreation centers where kids can play, have fun, and engage in organized activities. That means plenty of opportunities are available for people who want to participate in those activities and help kids take advantage of what their communities offer. Your experience could also lead to higher-paying positions like recreation director or camp director.

              24. Child portrait photographer

Even though almost everyone now has a phone with a built-in camera, professional photographers are still sought-out by people who want extraordinary photos of their special events or loved ones. For pros in this field, taking pictures of kids is often one of the most fun and playful ways to make money. You simply never know what to expect, which makes it exciting.

              25. Coach

Few things are more rewarding than helping kids set goals, playing a direct role in their personal development, and watching them achieve what they’ve set out to do. Coaching is often full of joyful moments. And even when kids come up short of their expectations, coaches can provide encouragement and restore the big smiles that they love so much.

4 Huge Benefits That Careers With Children Provide

              1. A Deep Sense of Purpose

We’ve all heard the cliché that children are our future. But have you ever paused and considered just how true that is? Today’s kids will inherit the world, and many of them will become tomorrow’s leaders, caretakers, inventors, and artists. That means you have the chance to help shape the future by contributing your talents toward the positive development and growth of young people in your community.

Few things are more fulfilling than knowing that your work means something. In the case of working with children, jobs are frequently infused with real purpose. That’s especially true in career sectors such as education, healthcare, and counseling and human services. By helping kids flourish, you can play a crucial role in giving them great head starts on all of the possibility and potential still ahead of them.

              2. Exposure to Wildly Fresh Perspectives

Do you remember what it was like to see the world through young eyes? As a kid, you were probably curious about everything. And you probably didn’t edit your thoughts or ideas the way that most adults do. It meant that you were fascinated by even the most mundane stuff, and you felt like a real visionary when you crafted your own theory about something.

As an adult, you can learn a lot from kids. Even a brief interaction with a young person can be powerful enough to break holes in the mental box that clouds or restricts your thinking. It can be a boon to your creativity and help you spark new solutions. At the very least, it can remind you that it’s always possible to tap back into that youthful mindset.

And that’s the bottom line: For anyone who values seeing the world in new ways, being able to interact with creative people is often the key to finding jobs that work. With children around, there is rarely a shortage of fun or unusual ideas. It’s something that a lot of people who’ve studied or worked in the social sciences have learned firsthand.

              3. Opportunities to Earn High Pay

It may not be immediately obvious, but following your passion for kids can lead to high-paying jobs. Working with children is something that many top-level professionals get to do daily.

Several professional sectors offer paths to specialization in exactly this area. They include psychology, law, nursing, and many other areas of professional health care. Some people even become experts in business and start companies that provide entertainment or other services to kids.

              4. More Play, More Laughter, More Smiles

We’ve all seen it: Young kids seem to enjoy life a lot more than adults. They often display vibrant and playful energy that many of us lose somewhere along our paths to adulthood. At any given time, they are much more likely to be dancing, singing, smiling, laughing, or engaging their imaginations. Is it any wonder that people who work with kids often have more joyful careers? Dealing with children on this level is just plain fun.

The above examples are often wonderful careers for people who enjoy experiencing that kind of youthful and adventurous spirit. With children as a major focus, they include occupations in areas such as entertainment, sports and recreation, and the arts.

90,000 Children do not harm a woman’s career. Men do it

One of the most pernicious myths about motherhood is that having children will ruin your career. We, women, are popularly explained that we need to choose between work and children, or we will have to balance for years in order to combine one with the other. I will tell a secret to those who are not too interested in circus art: career and personal achievements are hindered not by motherhood and children, but by men who refuse to take on an equal part of the responsibilities.

If husbands did half of the household chores, believe me, you and I would build dizzying careers. But to do this, we need to abandon harmful stereotypes about the sacrifices that a working mother must make. It’s time to talk about the fact that a partner who shirks household chores interferes with success.

Research shows that fathers still have more free time

Yes, American men today do more than their fathers: they spend about 8 hours a week caring for a child, 3 times more than 1965 year. It should be borne in mind that the figure is called by men, and they, as you know, tend to exaggerate. However, “doing more” does not mean doing enough. Progress is being made, and yet mothers still spend almost twice as much time caring for their children: 14 hours a week.

Far from all care can be measured quantitatively, mental work requires the most effort. Let’s say you can agree on which of you dresses the child in the morning, and who collects his lunch. But someone also needs to remember which day the class will go on a field trip, which means that they will need to pack another snack, or that it is time to buy new underwear or sneakers. How many fathers do you know who will accurately tell you what size their child’s feet are?

This “invisible” and immeasurable work usually falls on the shoulders of women, and they rarely think about how this affects their career. Just imagine that you no longer need to keep in mind a shopping list or a date for a visit to the dentist – how much space will be freed up for creativity. For most mothers, the opportunity to meditate is a real luxury.

Research shows that fathers still have more free time than mothers. The former spend it on hobbies and recreation, the latter on cleaning and children. And this again directly affects the career: it is known that those who have more rest and are engaged in creativity demonstrate better performance. Throw in the “fines for motherhood”: it’s harder for mothers to find work than women without children, and they get paid less.

A 2017 study showed that the wage gap among women is directly related to whether or not they have children. With men, the opposite is true: fathers get more. Discrimination against mothers has not gone away, and they have to make incredible efforts to achieve something.

It’s time to start fighting this. The fact that men pay less attention to children is well known, but few people condemn them for it. We keep hearing that caring is just more feminine.

Let’s stop saying that motherhood slows down a woman’s career.

Personally, I don’t enjoy having to remember that my daughter needs a new scrunchie or that she’s grown out of old sandals. I also don’t feel much joy from changing a diaper and having to cut my nails. But if we take full responsibility for these responsibilities, it is not surprising that when a child comes to school in shoes that do not fit, they look at us with disapproval, and not at the father.

It’s time for men to stop thinking that women take on most of the responsibilities just because they like it. We do this because we are expected to do so and will be judged if we choose to neglect our responsibilities. The main thing, because it is difficult to find a partner who is ready to take on half the work.

So let’s stop saying that motherhood hinders a woman’s career. It’s not about the institution of parenthood and children. There can be no equality at work until there is equality at home. Not because a woman cannot get everything at once, just a man is not ready to play on an equal footing.

Career and children: the secrets of a successful mother

the realization does not come that both are necessary for a sense of inner balance. Tatyana Kovaleva, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology of Management, Faculty of Social Psychology, Moscow State University of Psychology and Education, shared her experience of combining a successful career and raising children.

Tatyana graduated from the Moscow State Linguistic University and worked for a large international company as an HR manager for 16 years. Career did not prevent her from becoming a happy mother, raising two children – son Eugene (14 years old) and daughter Ksenia (8 years old). Tatyana tells our readers about her success story.

              Either-or…

For many modern women (unless we are talking about a tough patriarchal upbringing), the choice is rather not what to prefer – career advancement or motherhood, but to decide on the time – when to give birth, and when to build a career. It requires an individual approach, taking into account your own basic values, personal needs and personal skills. Every woman does this analytical work for herself.

The world is not black and white, so don’t sacrifice one for the other.

Dichotomous decisions (either a great mother or a great professional) tend to lead later to suffering and frustration that will affect both the woman herself and her loved ones. A mother who sacrifices herself to the family will feel hurt, and others will feel guilty.

              Mature decision

To answer the questions: “What do I want?” and “How to achieve this?”, it is necessary to achieve a certain level of personal development: to have a healthy self-esteem, to know your needs and capabilities, to be responsible for all your actions. In this case, any problem will be perceived as a task that needs to be solved, and the goal will be visible and clear. Having internal resources, you can cope with any tasks. But to replenish these resources, you need to work on yourself.

              Projects and plans

If a woman has a desire to realize herself both in the family and outside it, it is important to learn how to combine both of these directions. Of course, you will have to choose, but not the object (one instead of the other), but the order (what comes first and what comes next). In general, the development of a strategic plan helps in any business, including designing your own life. And psychological attitudes (“I want two children – a boy and a girl!”), Formed for myself, help in the implementation of the plan.

Immediately after receiving education, being a young specialist, it is better to work for several years, gain experience and gain a foothold in the profession.

This will help you not to lose the acquired skills during the birth of a child and build maternity leave in accordance with your own needs. For example, return to work 10-12 months after giving birth. Thus, the necessary balance will be maintained: the mother is next to the baby in the first, very important year of his life, when the basic principles of perception of the world and affection are formed, and at the same time she does not lose her professional skills.

              The next step

After leaving the decree, you can make a “reserve” for the future: improve your qualifications, get additional education or specialization in order (if you wish to give birth to more children) by the time the child goes to school, it would be possible go on maternity leave again. First grade is another important stage in a child’s development. During this period, the presence of the mother next to the child plays an important role. A first grader needs the support of a close adult to help them cope with stress and instill a love of learning.

              Assistance needed

When returning to work after maternity leave, the mother will need someone to take care of the child. And it is better if it is a nanny (if possible). Initially, business relationships will help prioritize and eliminate conflicts and resentment that are possible in a relationship between mom and grandmother.

A woman should not turn into a super-mother who simultaneously swaddles a child, cooks soup and answers phone calls at work. This image is rather troubling.

Wear and tear will not bring anything good. The indicator of success in this case will be the ability of a woman to find a harmonious combination of work and care for children in the form of the correct distribution of roles and responsibilities. A great way out when there is an assistant who can take on some of the chores around the house. If the choice of a nanny is approached with increased seriousness, then this person will be able to become, over time, truly dear to all family members.

              Communication time

An important point is the organization of certain family rituals that one should try to fulfill. Children, of course, miss their mother and demand to make up for the lack of communication with her. Moreover, these requirements can be hidden (boys, unlike girls, may not declare this directly) or explicit. In such a situation, it is necessary to pay attention to the child, for example, spending time with him in the evening before going to bed in conversations, reading books, or simply lying on the bed embracing.

Another necessary rule is a conscious switch from one of your roles to another: at work you are the boss, at home you are the mother.

The distribution of roles and the “turning off” of the metal in the voice requires effort and is not always obtained, but it allows you to maintain warmth and harmony in family relationships.

              Not just a mother

If self-realization in a career allows a woman to feel a taste for life, then her “burning” at work will bring joy not only to her, but also to her family. Children, firstly, see the equal relationship of their parents: dad has his own business, mom has her own, and both of them are passionate and cheerful.

Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy: Parents rocked by allegations of mistreatment at Wake Forest daycare

WAKE FOREST, N,C, (WTVD) — A parent has filed a report with the Wake Forest Police Department alleging child abuse stemming from incidents at a Wake Forest daycare facility.

The report, filed Tuesday, centers around the Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy in Wake Forest. The facility has cameras in the classroom and elsewhere in the complex, which parents have access to view live. In separate videos captured by parents, shared online and directly with ABC11, a worker is seen acting aggressively with children. One clip shows the worker knocking over a child with her leg, and then forcefully picking the child up. A different clip shows a worker pushing a child in a seat toward the table.

Makayla McClure’s son attended the facility for four months before she recently pulled him out.

“He hated it. Going to daycare became the biggest hassle in the world. He did not want to go. Every single morning it was a fight getting him to go into daycare. He would act up so much to get out of there that I would have to leave work non-stop for like a week,” said McClure.

She shared he had a generally positive experience the first 2 1/2 months, but things eventually soured. Her mother, the boy’s grandmother, told her she witnessed one incident via live stream.

“They supposedly don’t do timeouts, but the teacher had him by the arm up in the air, because she was really tall, and he was really short. So his arm was fully extended. So she had his arm fully up in the air, dragging him throughout the classroom, and would not let him go for anything in the world. And it was at least 10-15 minutes,” McClure relayed.

McClure, who did not file the police report but has since spoken to authorities, said she voiced her concerns directly with administrators, but felt dismissed.

“There’s absolutely no excuse for it whatsoever. These are kids. To me, if you can’t have that much patience, to work with children, you definitely don’t need to be there working with kids at all. Because the way they were doing it and jerking these kids up and pushing them and shoving them, and this that, it was very forceful,” McClure said.

Off-camera, other parents spoke with ABC11 anonymously, documenting varied incidents dating to 2020.

In two cases, parents said they saw staff via live stream act physically aggressive with children, though not their own.

A different parent noted that her son spent about five months at the facility, and had three separate incidents, one of which she claimed included him being restricted from using the restroom.

Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy said the teacher seen in the video has been terminated.

NCDHHS performed an unannounced inspection of the 5-star facility last month, finding five violations, none of which involved any of the allegations from parents. All violations in that report have since been corrected.

The Division of Child Development and Early Education, which operates under NCDHHS, has not taken any action against the facility in the past three years.

Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy locations are independently-owned and operated, and these allegations involve only the Wake Forest location.

In a statement shared with ABC 11, owner/operator Stacie Williamson wrote:

We are in communication with the family involved and have extended our apologies and been available for any calls or meetings that they have requested. In the meantime, we are working closely with the Wake Forest Police Department, which has the case under investigation. Based on our own internal investigation, we immediately notified all parents of the incident and terminated the employee who violated our company’s ‘Code of Conduct.’ In keeping with our longtime company mission to make sure every child in our care feels safe, loved and inspired, we are doing our part to make sure this matter never happens again and will begin this process with a mandatory retraining of all teachers and a review of ‘reporting training,’ which keeps all of our teachers accountable to one another.

The animal sleeps lightly, and after waking up it crawls out of the shelter, evaluates the environment. For this animal, coming out of hibernation is the beginning of a new life. The first days the clumsy is not too active, does not go far from the den, wanders around and looks for food. The bear regularly returns to its warm shelter, and if the weather worsens, it can lie down and not come out for several days.

In Siberia, bears often come out to people. The reason for this may be cold May – the snow has melted, spring has come, but nighttime temperatures are close to zero. This was the case, for example, in 2018. During such periods, the animal is not able to hold out for a long time on old stocks, and it has to go closer to settlements. Therefore, the bear can be found in landfills, near garbage cans, along roads and near summer cottages.

              Hedgehog

Hedgehog wakes up hungry like a wolf in the spring, so he spends several days exclusively searching for food. The fact is that hedgehogs do not stock up for the winter, as they feed mainly on insects. Therefore, they have to accumulate fat all summer season. By October, these animals, having eaten as much as possible, fall into hibernation. They find refuge in dense bushes, in depressions in the soil, among fallen leaves and forest brushwood. The hedgehog wakes up only with the cessation of frost. It is interesting that in science there is such a thing as “hourly”. It indicates the number of ticks collected by a hedgehog in an hour of running through the forest. Accounting for “hourly” helps to identify natural foci of tick-borne encephalitis.

There is one common misconception about hedgehogs. From children’s books, many remember how a hedgehog carries an apple on its back. But in fact, these animals cannot prick apples, mushrooms, or other large objects on their spinal needles.

              Gopher

Gophers have long been one of the symbols of Tatyshev Island. They are not afraid of people, they beg for food and regularly become the heroes of photos and videos. Now these animals have already woken up and are waiting for the end of the lockdown, when they can again entertain visitors to the island. Interestingly, gophers can hibernate for up to nine months. The sleep of this rodent is one of the strongest in the animal kingdom. They say that you can even take a gopher out of its mink, shake it up, but it won’t wake up. Moreover, they can hibernate at any time of the year.

Many have seen ground squirrels on Tatyshev Island. It turns out that on sandy soils, their dwellings can reach up to three meters in depth and fifteen meters in length! Inside each hole, rodents equip a nesting chamber, which is carefully covered with dry grass. After waking up, gophers have a short period of vigorous activity caused by a rather strong hunger.

              Badger

Badgers also hibernate in the winter. Their sleep, just like that of bears, is almost not accompanied by a decrease in body temperature and a slowdown in vital functions. By autumn, the badger accumulates large reserves of subcutaneous fat, its weight can almost double. By the time of hibernation, the badger cleans out its hole, and equips fresh bedding in the nesting chamber. Before hibernation, this beast tightly clogs the entrances to its dwelling with earth and leaves. If for the winter several badgers lie in one hole at once, then each sleeps in a separate nesting chamber.

“Dynasties” of badgers can live in the same hole for decades and even centuries. Their dwellings gradually turn into colonies in which several families can be found at once. These animals stop leaving their homes after the first snow falls. And in the spring, badgers wake up with the beginning of the melting of snowdrifts, when the temperature finally passes the zero mark.

              Ticks

But the awakening of which we are certainly not happy is the ticks. They also hibernate with the first drop in temperature. Before the onset of cold weather, ticks find secluded places for themselves, hide in the ground, under the bark of trees. Their slow metabolism and good protection from the cold help them survive adverse weather conditions. These pests do not need food, they can freeze before the onset of heat. However, some of the ticks may continue to stay awake well into the fall. However, they do not pose a threat to humans during the cold period. They simply do not have enough strength to even cling to their body with their paws. And at minus fifteen ticks that do not hibernate, do not find shelter in the above-ground litter or on trees, quickly die.

Ticks that have survived the cold become active with the first rays of the sun. They can come out of hibernation already at plus three degrees and immediately begin to look for a victim for further survival.

              main causes and solutions

If the baby does not sleep at night, the advice of great-grandmothers about dill water, rocking in the cradle and turning pajamas inside out comes to the rescue. But not all of these methods are effective and give the desired result. First you need to understand the reasons, only then look for solutions. Why does a newborn baby sleep poorly and how to build the right regimen? We tell.

A baby’s sleep is different from an adult’s

              We have already told
that there are 2 phases of sleep: fast (active, FBS) and slow (deep, FMS). In infants, the active phase lasts up to 70% of the time, when a slight creak of the door or a start is enough to wake up. That is why parents often ask on various forums what to do if the baby does not sleep at night. In fact, he would gladly sniff peacefully in a stroller or crib if he had not been woken up. Gradually, the duration of the deep stage increases from 20-40 minutes to the “adult” 75-80 minutes – this is the favorite period of parents when you can calmly do business.

In FBS, the brain learns and develops, transforming the information it has learned, and in FMS, energy is redirected to bone growth, strengthening of the muscular corset, and development of organs. That is why the active phase lasts longer in infants than in adults.

Babies up to 1–3 months old have not yet activated their internal biological clock, they do not see the difference in the time of day, they often wake up and usually fall asleep easily. But it doesn’t last long. As a rule, from the 28th day after birth, the process of building an individual sleep and wakefulness regimen begins.

Children need healthy sleep for rest, production of growth hormone, fighting infections, strengthening immunity, adapting to environmental conditions and maintaining the proper functioning of the nervous system.

Each age has its own norms

Do you think that your child sleeps little? First, compare his age with the recommended norms. For example, newborns sleep up to 20 hours a day in total and are awake for no more than 4–6 hours, but rarely fall asleep for more than 3 hours. The need to eat often affects – the stomach is still small, so it’s impossible to eat a lot at one time, and the amount eaten is not enough to satisfy the need for nutrients. This mode is considered normal, so 2-3 nightly feedings do not mean that the child does not sleep well at night.

              10-13

These are statistics and doctors’ recommendations, but they do not always match reality. Some babies have to be woken up to be fed, others make their parents cradle, rock and sing lullabies all night. There are many reasons for this behavior, we will analyze the most popular ones.

Factors that can cause children to sleep poorly at night

              Medical

              Colds
. Cough, runny nose, high body temperature and other unpleasant symptoms of colds prevent children from sleeping normally both day and night. Try to avoid drafts, dress the child according to the weather, make sure that the legs do not get wet. Call your pediatrician at the first sign of a cold.

              Inflammation in the ear

. It occurs not only because of drafts, but also due to the fact that the ear canal is expanded up to two months. The main signs of inflammation: a sharp awakening and crying, as well as constant touching and covering the ear. If you notice these symptoms, contact a specialist immediately. Flatulence
. Manifested by bloating and gas. To avoid the formation of gases in the intestines of the baby, mothers during breastfeeding are advised to give up dairy and sour-milk products, legumes, chocolate, flour products and spicy foods. Also, the cause of flatulence can be nutrition: the mixture is not suitable, complementary foods are given too early, etc. When feeding, it is necessary to ensure that the baby takes the breast or bottle correctly and does not swallow air, and then he must be in an upright position for some time to burp extra air. Apnea
. Symptoms are hyperactivity, snoring, daytime sleepiness, sweating, falling asleep in head-down positions. Also, sleep problems cause increased intracranial pressure, rickets, protein allergy, dysbacteriosis, enuresis, neurological and other diseases.

              Behavioral

This group of factors includes the reasons associated with the sleep and wakefulness of the child.

              Nervous
. In children, the nervous system and psyche are not completely formed. That is why any positive and negative emotions, a change in the usual place can cause the child to sleep poorly at night and wake up often.

              • Because of the vivid impressions received shortly before sleep, babies may wake up frequently and even cry. Do not give new toys in the evening, do not watch cartoons with a rapidly changing picture or a hectic plot. Better bathe in a warm bath with a pleasant aroma of chamomile, lavender or other soothing herb (in the absence of allergies).
              • A horror movie, a cartoon with a scary story or a quarrel between parents can cause a nightmare for a child aged 1. 5–6. You should not ask in the morning about what happened, so you can only aggravate the situation, you can cope by eliminating traumatic factors. If you have frequent bad dreams, see a neurologist. If the baby is afraid of the dark, explain that there is nothing wrong with it, as an additional measure, you can leave a dim nightlight.

              Overexcited
. Most families have a habit of staying up until both parents come home from work. Naturally, the excitement of the child will be strong, even if he just sees his beloved father and mother, whom he has been waiting for all day, and if the ritual also involves active games, then you can not dream of a restful sleep. Try to give up energetic dancing, loud music and any physical activity of the baby after 4 pm, choose quiet, calm games. Sleeping rituals will help calm the baby – it is desirable that they are always the same. Before you go to bed, if possible, start talking more quietly and slowly, dim the lights and draw the curtains, read a book together after the bath, but give up the TV.

Some pediatricians advise only newborns to rock in the cradle or arms, and after the first month or six months, wean them from it. The reason is the “association to fall asleep”: at the moment of changing one sleep cycle to another, the baby does not always manage to fall asleep on his own, so motion sickness will be required each time. Similar associations can also be associated with the habit of asking for food (even if there is no feeling of hunger).

              Not tired
. If the baby is active, then by the evening he may not spend all his energy, then he will not be able to put him down. Try to walk and play outdoor games in the morning, then by the evening he will be tired, but not overexcited.

During one of the developmental spurts, around the fifth or sixth month, if the baby is not given enough time to crawl during the day, he will move and roll over in his sleep, causing him to wake up. During all the “jumps” you need to ensure maximum bodily contact – carry on your hands, stroke, kiss, this will help relieve anxiety and anxiety associated with sudden changes.

              Confused day and night
. Since immediately after birth, babies sleep up to 20 hours, they have not yet formed biorhythms. Our great-grandmothers believed that situations could be corrected by wearing bodysuits and sliders inside out. Pediatricians, on the other hand, recommend a more effective way: close the curtains tightly in the evening, dim the lights and all sounds, speak more quietly, show that it is time to go to bed and fall asleep. The day, on the contrary, should be associated with bright sunlight, loud sounds and walks outside the house.

Some children are awakened by loud and harsh noises. In this case, you can try to turn on the quiet sounds of the forest, the sound of the sea, and the like.

Slept long during the day or went to bed late
. The general norms of daytime sleep differ depending on age: a newborn needs 8-10 hours, a six-month-old needs 3-5 hours, and two hours is enough for a one-and-a-half-year-old. If you let him sleep longer during the day, he will definitely begin to act up in the evening, it will be more difficult to put him to bed and frequent nighttime awakenings may bother him. The optimal time for going to bed is from 19:00 to 21:00, during this period, melatonin, the “sleepy” hormone, is more actively produced in the body. If the baby does not fall asleep for a long time, cortisol, the stress hormone, begins to act, it causes overexcitation, overwork, tears, screams, and hysteria.

Up to six months, one daytime sleep should take no more than three hours, after 6 months – two hours. In this case, the last daytime sleep should end no later than 16:30-17:00.

              Afraid without a mother
. If you have just started laying in a separate bed, the baby may not sleep well because he feels the absence of his mother. It is recommended to put him to bed while he is still awake, and sit next to him at the time of falling asleep. Folk method: put a T-shirt or bra inserts under the sheet – with the smell of mom, it is easier for the baby to fall asleep. At about 2-4 years old, children may experience a fear of being alone, which causes them to wake up and cry. A good decision is to give a friend toy, but whether or not to let pets into the children’s bedroom is up to you.

              Understood the predictability of parents
. Despite the fact that children are small, they are able to find a causal relationship. If you put the child alone and take him to bed at night when he wakes up, he will understand that he needs to wake up early so that his mother hugs and hugs him again, as a result, his sleep will become short, you will have to wake up and get up more often.

              Physiological

              Wants to eat
. Breast milk is quickly digested in a small stomach, so the baby cries in the middle of the night to inform the parents about the desire to eat. Depending on the weight and behavior of the baby, feeding may be on demand or by the hour. It is recommended to feed as tightly as possible before going to bed, then by six months or a year you will be able to completely abandon night feedings after consulting with a pediatrician.

Did not have time to fall asleep

. Babies need 20 minutes to fall asleep, so they wake up immediately when you close the book on the second page or put them in the crib as soon as you hear sniffling. At this moment, it is easy to wake them up, and it is twice as difficult to put them down. Track how long it takes your baby to fall asleep soundly, and only then stop reading and leave the room.

              Has physical discomfort
. If your baby is restless, make sure they have the right pajamas, no toys in the way, no chafing in bedding, and a dry diaper. By the way, the mattress in the crib should be firm and not squeeze through, and a pillow and a blanket will not be needed for at least a year. A wet diaper or sheet interferes with sleep for both babies and older children. Control that the baby does not eat sweet or salty in the evening. If the cause of thirst is the heat in the bedroom, you should ventilate the room more often.

              Moro reflex interferes

. These are involuntary movements of the arms and legs at the time of falling asleep. As a result, the baby wakes himself up and gets scared. In some situations, swaddling helps, as you grow older, the reflex disappears. Prevent colic
. Usually appear at 1-3 months, last for three hours more than three times a week: the baby cries, pulls the legs to the tummy, arches the back, the abdominal muscles become dense. It is impossible to get rid of stomach colic, but you can help: light massage, swaying, stroking will alleviate the condition. If you plan to give special teas, including dill water, check with your doctor first.

According to the journal Consilium Medicum, intestinal colic occurs in 9-15% of children in the first months of life. Although earlier studies have identified this problem in 62% of one and a half month old babies, that is, every second.

              Teething
. This is the next “developmental leap” after colic, which occurs after three months of age. Among the signs: profuse salivation, the desire of the child to chew everything that comes across. In some, the stage of teething is absolutely calm, in others, fever, pain in the gums, and coughing may occur. Teething massagers help to eliminate itching, but ointments and painkillers for children cannot be used without the recommendation of a doctor and careful study of the instructions – the composition may contain dangerous components that, if the dose is exceeded, adversely affect health.

The US Food and Drug Administration registered 22 cases of side effects in 2014 when using gels with lidocaine, and products with benzocaine can cause methemoglobinemia, characterized by increased levels of oxidized hemoglobin in the blood and tissue hypoxia (lack of oxygen ).

              Uncomfortable microclimate in the bedroom
. Cold, heat, stuffiness and dry air – any of these factors can be the reason why children do not sleep well at night. Control the temperature with a fan, radiator, or air conditioner, use a humidifier, ventilate regularly, and mop. If you are afraid of drafts and polluted air, set

              Breezer

is a modern version of supply ventilation that heats incoming air masses and comprehensively protects against allergens, harmful gases and impurities.

              Franciscan Child Day Care Center

Closure of Franciscan Child Day Care Center – August 19, 2022

Update: The Franciscan Child Day Care Center has been working with another child care provider to take over the site from which they will offer their services. Presently, we are in the process of transitioning, which could take some time. Updates are being sent to current families and staff via HiMama. Inquiries about new enrollment or employment will be referred to the administration of the new center.

The pandemic revealed how essential child care is to families, employers and communities.  It also placed added strain on a fragile child care system in the United States that was especially felt by independent and non-profit organizations. The Franciscan Child Day Care Center persisted through various challenges of the past three years.  Yet, despite the best efforts of our staff, families and Board, the Center was not able to recover from the financial losses of closures, increased operation costs, staffing shortages, and a 60% drop in enrollment.  Recognizing that the Center is not able to continue to provide affordable child care at the level of quality desired and properly compensate caregivers for their dedicated service, the Board has made the difficult decision to close the Franciscan Child Day Care Center as of September 12, 2022

This heartbreaking decision was made after months of exploring all our options, including a thorough review of finances and staff assessments. Caregivers have been offered incentives to stay and provide care until August 19 so that families have time to process, grieve and transition to another child care facility or caregiver.

The Franciscan Child Day Care Center offers our heartful gratitude to all the families, caregivers, staff, neighbors, Whitehall Borough and others who enabled us to serve the South Hills for 40 years. Thank you for the blessed opportunity to provide children with the tools to grow and thrive, while sharing our Franciscan values emphasizing peace, love for our neighbors, and care for the Earth.

              Kindergarten No. 34 Vladivostok

We have been entrusted with a small, delicate, fragile child who comes to kindergarten very tiny, unable to understand what is happening, why instead of the usual home environment, he finds himself in a completely new, unfamiliar place. The kid worries, worries, often cries bitterly, realizing that his mother will not be around for some time. Also, and sometimes even more, the parents of the child are worried and worried, wondering: how is the baby without us? Therefore, a lot of patience, kindness, affection, and genuine love of the teacher are needed so that the child understands, feels in his soul that he is expected here, and loves his second home, and the parents feel how wonderful the baby feels in kindergarten and the soul becomes calm.

About the Kids Care Extended Learning Program

The OAUSD Child Development Department includes Bright Futures Preschool and the Kids Care Before School Program, Expanded Learning After School Program, and Summer Camp. It is our goal to provide a cohesive learning and care experience for OAUSD students and families, in order to support and augment the learning that takes place in the classroom.

The Kids Care Before School, After School, and Summer Camp Programs provide high quality care, academic support, and enrichment to students in TK-6 grade in informal learning settings. Guided by the principals of Self-Determination Theory the program is designed to foster students’ feelings of confidence, creativity, competence, and community. Our Site Managers, Instructional Assistants, and Campus Aides work closely with OAUSD teachers to best meet each and every student’s academic, emotional, and behavioral needs using an equity-, trauma-, and PBIS-informed lens.

Our Program Handbook can be found here. Updates to our handbook to better reflect our program values coming soon!

About the Kids Care Extended Learning Program Funding Sources

The Kids Care Expanded Learning Program operations rely on a combination of grants (below) as well as family payments. Thank you for your support in keeping our program running strong in the service of families.

The Kids Care Programs at La Tercera Elementary and Miwok Valley Elementary are recipients of the ASES grant, which subsidizes some of the program fees for students enrolled at those two school sites:

“The purpose of the After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program is to create incentives for establishing locally-driven Expanded Learning programs, including after school programs that partner with public schools and communities to provide academic and literacy support, and safe, constructive alternatives for youth. The ASES Program involves collaboration among parents, youth, and representatives from schools, governmental agencies, individuals from community-based organizations, and the private sector.

For the 2022/23 school year, the Kids Care Expanded Learning Programs at La Tercera and Miwok Valley are participants in the Child and Adult Care Food Program

“The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federal program that provides reimbursements for nutritious meals and snacks to eligible children and adults who are enrolled for care at participating child care centers, day care homes, and adult day care centers. CACFP also provides reimbursements for meals served to children and youth participating in afterschool care programs, children residing in emergency shelters, and adults over the age of 60 or living with a disability and enrolled in day care facilities. CACFP contributes to the wellness, healthy growth, and development of young children and adults in the United States.”

Beginning in 2021/22 the Kids Care Expanded Learning Program is the recipient of funding through the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program. We are in the planning phase of implementing this grant.

Parental care for children and over-care

It would seem that caring for children is the sacred duty of every parent. Undoubtedly. But exactly as long as it does not come about excessive care. Where does healthy custody end and “hyper” begin? Where does concern for the health, life and normal development of a baby border on the desire to do everything for him and control all areas of his life, make all important decisions for him and, in essence, deprive him of independence? Today about it.

So, what can be attributed to the area of healthy manifestation of care, or “Your business”:
              1. Take care of the life and health of the child. This is basic. However, here, too, you can overdo it. It is believed that we, adults, are responsible for our children until adulthood. It certainly is. However, as our children grow up, the scope of this responsibility must change . If in the case of a child under 3 years old, it is appropriate for parents to decide how exactly he should be dressed, then a child of 10 years old is quite able to decide for himself what trousers he wants to wear for a walk, and is quite able to assess whether he is cold or not. The same is the case with food: a child over infancy gives quite definite signals about what he wants and what he does not want to eat, and here you can gradually begin to give him the opportunity to choose independently what he wants to eat, let go of control, not insist and in no case force food if you do not want it in the future of eating disorders.
              2. Help a child grow up. As your baby grows, he begins to give signals: “I myself” – a very important period in the formation of a child’s personality. It is very important during this period to allow him to act on his own, even if you are sure that you will do better. Of course, this is true, but how is your child supposed to learn to do this if he is not given the opportunity to do so? Pay close attention to these signals and help your child comprehend the world: lift him to the elevator button if he asks you to press it, let him help you with the housework, even if he just smears water on the floor or dirt on the dishes. You will see – on the 10th attempt, he will start to get much better, so be patient and let him try these!
              3. Prepare the child to make serious independent choices. This concerns the choice of friends, and in the future, partners. Please note: the task of the parent is NOT TO MAKE A CHOICE FOR the child, but to teach him to make this choice on his own ! You need to start doing this at an early age, with the help of leading questions: “What girl or what boy do you like? Why? And which one do you not like? Why?” In the process of the child’s answers, a very important idea about human qualities sounds and forms, and why this or that behavior and manifestation can attract or repel. It is in this process that the child begins to develop ideas about what is “honest and not honest”, “mean and fair”, “kindness and malice”, “trust and distrust”, “loyalty and betrayal”, etc. – all that in the future will allow him to make a choice in difficult situations, the moral basis that is necessary in order to choose the right, right, appropriate decision. Teach your child to draw conclusions, draw his attention to important, defining moments, help to weed out the important from the unimportant. But first, deal with this yourself: in our time, not every adult has a clear idea of what is important and what is not, what is acceptable and what is unacceptable.
              4. Believe in the child and in his strength: “You can do it!”. It is very scary to let a child go for the first time to cross the street or go to the store on his own. It is very scary that he will not cope with the first exam or will not be able to warm up his dinner without getting burned. However, it is very important to cope with your fear and still allow it to try. And always during these trials, believe that he can handle it, and do not forget to tell him about it. This is how the child gains confidence in his own abilities and that he has a strong, loving “rear” in your face. This is what will support him later in the most difficult life situation, and therefore this is what you simply have to give him.
And now about what is simply contraindicated for parents to interfere, or “None of your business”:
              1. Choose a profession and lifestyle for your child. Both “successful” parents, that is, those who have achieved a lot in their lives, and parents who have not been able to realize their potential and who blame their own parents for this can fall into the trap of “overcare” – they “overlooked”, “underpressed”. However, both of them want their children to be exactly as successful as they are, and in most cases even more, hence the tough, directive guidance, control, over-care, and often depriving the child of choosing his own path. To begin with, it is very important to understand that a child is a being completely separate from you , and is not at all obliged to repeat your path and correct your mistakes. He may have his own path in life, which is completely different from yours, as well as his own mistakes and his own conclusions, which will become his own – unique – path in life. If we talk about early age – do not decide for him what he should play now or what he should do now – better see what he is reaching for and support him in this activity, help him figure out something that is difficult for him to figure out on his own , and do with him what is interesting to him, and not to you. Here, too, it is very important to listen to the signals that your child gives. A very clear signal of protest is resistance: “I don’t want to!”, “I won’t!” – if the child violently resists, it means that you have passed on somewhere, and you need to loosen your grip, gradually start letting go of him, transferring responsibility to him, stop being a guide, and become supportive – behind the back of the child, ready to pick up and direct, but not pushing him to what he is not yet ready for.
              2. Choose friends and interests for the child. “Don’t be friends with Liza, she’s from a bad family”, “Don’t listen to this music, it’s noisy, listen to Mozart, he shapes the taste”, “Don’t read this book, read Pushkin, he is our everything”. I really want to do all this with the best of intentions, but – hands off his life! If you are really worried about him, all you can do is calmly, kindly share your worries with your child in an “I-message”, for example: “It worries me that you listen to this kind of music because Kurt Cobain is done with myself, and I’m very afraid that something bad will happen to you. In the case of younger children, such situations are rare, because they trust your tastes and preferences, and are ready to share your interests with you, so at this age you can influence the formation of your child’s tastes, but not imposing them on him as the only correct ones, but sharing with him your interests. Therefore, it is very important that you have them, and that the child knows about them: go to visits together, to the theater, to concerts, listen to music, watch movies and read your favorite books from your childhood aloud to him and discuss what you read. However, when the child says “I don’t want to listen to this, I want to listen to that” – be ready to accept it as humbly as he once accepted what you offered him. Believe me, sooner or later what you put into it will definitely bear fruit, but only if you do not put pressure on it – the taste cannot be formed under pressure.
              3. Take responsibility for the learning outcomes or discipline of your growing child. Your child is not capable of self-organization, is always late, forgets everything, cannot wake up and get ready for school? None of your business. Even if teachers at school put pressure on you and ask you to “take control of this.” Of course, they will press – it’s more convenient for them. In this case, no one thinks about the child and the consequences of such control for him – teachers are only interested in discipline, and not the further fate of your child. You need to understand that this is the area in which your growing person must learn to take responsibility for the consequences of their actions or inaction, must learn to organize their own time and space. You can teach him how to use an alarm clock, an organizer, get ready for the evening, prepare clothes in advance, etc. , but in no case should you do this instead of him, unless, of course, you want to raise a helpless, irresponsible and dependent adult.

Caring for children is easier than you think

              Why is childcare important?

Young parents are often nervous when they leave their child alone. A logical question arises: is everything in order, does he or she need help? Worried mothers cannot calmly go about their business, listening to every rustle. And this is not surprising, because danger lurks everywhere. If earlier it was necessary to look into the nursery, now it is enough to turn on the broadcast from the surveillance camera through the mobile application.

Children grow up and the day comes when we leave them at home alone. Our concern is also growing: what if there is a short circuit, a pipe breaks, or, even worse, a criminal disappears into the house. How to protect the child and yourself from possible threats? One of the solutions is the Perenio security and video surveillance system, which consists of video surveillance cameras and smoke, motion, opening and leakage sensors. With the help of the system, you can remotely monitor the installation room. Information from surveillance cameras is available from a smartphone through a special mobile application.

Surveillance cameras can help prevent possible threats and save precious family moments. Wherever you are, the cloud and memory card recording feature will not let you miss the first steps, home concerts or the fun of your children.

              Student safety

Children spend most of their time at school or kindergarten. Unfortunately, parents cannot guarantee at this time the same comfort and coziness as at home. It is at school or kindergarten that any negligence can lead to tragedy. Accidents, emergencies or threats of psychological bullying – how to ensure the safety of a child outside the home?

The best solution would be to install the PEKIT01 safety instrumentation kit from Perenio in the class. A smoke detector, for example, will instantly notify the school or kindergarten management and parents about the first signs of a fire, and CCTV cameras will let you know what is really happening in the classrooms. Recordings from cameras are stored in the cloud, which prevents the possibility of their deletion or falsification. Fixed or rotary video surveillance cameras will become assistants for teachers and parents in resolving disputes and various incidents in the classroom.

How do opening/motion sensors help protect children?

In summer, most often you have to leave the child alone at home or in the country. School has not started yet, kindergartens may also be closed. How to protect children from possible dangers in this case? In addition to traditional smoke and leakage sensors, opening and motion sensors will help you. The PECWS01 Opening Sensor and PECMS01 Motion Sensor will not only protect your child from unwanted guests, but will also help you know if your children are following instructions while you are away. By pairing devices with the PEIFC01 security camera, you can see how they behave when you are not around.

When it comes to babysitting, by installing a motion sensor and a video camera, you can monitor them remotely. As soon as the baby wakes up and starts moving, the sensor will work and the video camera will work. Through the PEACG01 control center and the Perenio Smart app, you will receive a notification on your phone and will be able to determine if your presence is required. With a simple and portable security system that can always be reinstalled in another room, you will save yourself some nerves and more time for your business. Think about this when you are going to the country next summer. After all, looking after a child in the world of modern technology is so simple.

How can I check if everything is fine at home?

Of course, the security system works perfectly both outside the city and in the apartment. With the help of motion and opening sensors, you will always know when and with whom the child came home. If you have a nanny, then the surveillance camera will allow you to see how she takes care of the children and what she teaches during your absence. Remote control is also useful if you have several children.

Children often accuse each other of this or that misconduct. One shouts: “It was not I who broke the vase, but she.” In response, crying and accusations of deceit and forgery are heard. How to find out which of the two is right? With PIR PIR camera PEIRC01. It not only has a built-in motion sensor, but it also allows you to make explicit the secret. Bring two tomboys to the laptop screen, rewind the recording and figure out who really got naughty.

Cam Lieberson (they/them) Cam is thrilled to be joining the Kane Street Kids community in their first year as Education Director. After earning their undergraduate degree in Educational Theater from NYU, they launched into their teaching career, working in general education and arts integration roles for children of all ages. After a few years working with elementary-aged students, they taught their first year of preschool, and it was pure magic. Since then, they have been committed to working with children ages 2-5 in both general and special education settings, with a focus on cultivating a sense of joy and belonging in the classroom.

This brought them to their studies as a graduate student at Bank Street College of Education, where they earned an MSED in Early Childhood Education and Arts Integration. The joy that music, dance, storytelling, and drama have brought to their students is immeasurable, and they have continued to advocate for strong arts programs for children of all ages. During their recent years as an educator, they have dedicated their practice to developing identity and social justice work with and for young children. As a trans, nonbinary teacher, it has become important to them to see every member of their school community–children, families, faculty, and staff–feel a sense of belonging and support.

Please feel free to contact Cam any time at [email protected].

The Kane Street Kids Committee is comprised of members of Kane Street Synagogue who are parents of KSK students and alumni, and other volunteers who have experience in early childhood education. They work with the Preschool Director and Synagogue’s other senior staff towards the continued growth, enrichment and enhancement of KSK’s educational program. For more information, contact the committee chair at [email protected].

              Shabbat

Children love to come to synagogue on Shabbat and use the skills they have learned during the week either in Hebrew School or Day School. They are able to shine in the children’s services, by taking part in leading their peers in prayer, demonstrating their growth in Hebrew and prayer skills and finding their own space in the Kane Street community. Every Shabbat, except on public holiday weekends, Kane Street offers four Family Services. Family Services are free and open to all, both members and non-members. Parents are always welcome to attend our children’s services. Contact Director of Education & Family Programming Rabbi Valerie Lieber.

              Schedule
Each Shabbat morning during the school year we hold family services in the upper floors of the Goldman Educational Center, starting at 11:00am. The entire building is filled with the sound of singing, laughter and learning. We have services for every age range so that kids can get engaged with a group of peers, express their joys, wonder and doubts.

              Holidays and Festivals

Creative and fun children’s holiday programs are offered throughout the Jewish year.

On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur we hold lively services for children and their families led by Rabbi Val and other experienced, engaging Jewish family educators. Children hear the shofar, sing t’fillot and enjoy sweet apples and honey. On the afternoon of the second day of Rosh Hashanah, everyone is invited to participate in our Tashlich ceremony at the East River Fulton Ferry Landing with the entire community. Childcare is available during the High Holidays.

Simchat Torah, with its joyous singing and dancing in honor of the Torah, is a holiday of youthful delight. Families are invited to participate in safe and fun rounds of dancing, or hakafot, with the Torah as we cordon off our block on Kane Street and celebrate in the street.

At Chanukkah families are invited to Kane Street’s Community Chanukkah party to sing Chanukkah songs and consume their year’s share of sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts).

Purim at Kane Street is very family friendly. Everyone comes dressed in costume, parents behave like children and together we listen to the Megillah of Esther, sponsor a costume parade and enjoy hamantaschen.

On Yom Ha’atz’ma’ut, Israel Independence Day, we sing in English and Hebrew, dance and celebrate the modern revival of Israel.

              15 best football movies

              15. “Freaks” (2011)

Three years ago, a Russian farcical film about an unlucky teacher Kolotilov (Konstantin Khabensky), who is forced to coach a hastily recruited children’s football team, instead of marrying his Nadenka (Milla Jovovich), disappointed us with that that she spends too much time in the company of Urgant and Jovovich and does not pay enough attention to young actors and their sports exploits. Children’s sports comedy and rom-com farce, and even with wedding jokes, are badly combined genres, pulling the picture in different directions. But those children’s and football scenes that are in the film are so entertaining that they still make the tape worthy of our hit parade. We don’t have too many children’s movies to ignore Freaks!

              14. Green Street Hooligans (2005)

Football hooliganism is an integral but shameful part of sports life, and we hesitated for a long time whether to include such a movie in our hit parade. But since there are hooligans, then let them be with us! And let them be presented not by almost a documentary, like the not-so-famous but classic in Britain film with Gary Oldman “The Firm” and not by the domestic film “Okolofutbola”, which frankly advertises Russian “firms”, but rather ridiculous and not particularly realistic, but but a fascinating American-English production about a Harvard “nerd” (Elijah Wood) who enrolls in a British hooligan gang. A hobbit in the role of a tough gopnik is something with something! Also, “Hooligans” is interesting because it was directed by a German woman, Lexi Alexander, a former world karate champion.

              13. The Cup (1999)

A film about football directed by a Tibetan lama?! Yes, there is such a movie in the world. It is clear that Khyentse Norbu did not manage without the help of Western specialists – the presence of previous “enlightened” reincarnations does not make a Tibetan an expert in working with camera and sound. But still, The Cup is precisely a Tibetan, and not a Western film, showing young and elderly Buddhist monks not as detached pillars of faith, but as living people, not alien to simple male joys. And what could be more joy for a man than the World Cup final? And the heroes who are passionate about football, usually shunning high technology, are trying to get a TV and a satellite dish to watch the match France – Brazil (the action of the picture takes place at 1998).

              12. “She’s a man!” (She’s the Man, 2006)

There are a number of films in the West where boys and girls play together on teenage football teams. The British, for example, love the 1981 Scottish comedy Gregory’s Girl, where the high school title character falls in love with an athletic beauty who forces him out of the center forward position and forces him to register in goal. We, however, prefer the funnier American romantic slapstick where Amanda Bynes’ character pretends to be a guy to play on the men’s team. Although Bynes carries the whole picture on her shoulders, 2006 was not her year, but the year of her on-screen lover, Channing Tatum. Together with the musical film Take a Step, Andy Fickman’s comedy turned the former stripper into a movie star and an idol of girls’ hearts.

              11. Merry Christmas (Joyeux Noël, 2005)

International football is often criticized for stoking nationalist passions. But it’s better to scold a foreign team than to shoot at foreigners with a machine gun and crush them with tanks. And this is what the famous European picture about Christmas Eve 1914 is dedicated to, during which British, French and German soldiers and officers left the trenches and forgot about the First World War for a while in order to congratulate each other on the holiday, listen to music … And, of course, play football. By the way, the generals were then so afraid of this temporary truce that they strictly forbade repeating it, and at 19In the year 15, almost all attempts by opponents to fraternize at Christmas were thwarted. The British commanders were especially zealous, afraid of losing control of the army fighting far from their homeland.

              10. “Garpastum” (2008)

“Paper Soldier”, dedicated to the history of Soviet cosmonautics, brought Aleksei German Jr. the director’s “Silver Lion” at the IFF in Venice. However, we prefer the director’s less titled previous production about young Petersburgers who, at 1914 year they are trying to develop football in a country that is entering an era of radical and irreversible change. The conditional prototypes of the main characters of the picture were the legendary Spartak brothers Starostin (who, of course, were Moscow, not St. Petersburg athletes). The word “harpastum” is taken from Latin. So in ancient Rome they called the ball game, which, judging by its descriptions, was something like the current rugby. Like many other things, the Romans borrowed this game from the ancient Greeks.

              9. “Goal!” (Goal, 2005!)

Zidane, Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, Postiga, Roberto Carlos, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Thierry Henry, Patrick Kluivert… When a movie is like this, it’s far from complete! – a list of star cameos, the hand of any football fan reaches for her wallet to buy a disc with “Goal!” and put it in a conspicuous place. Yes, from a cinematic point of view, this is a completely banal sports drama about a talented American “Latinos” player (Mexican Kuno Becker), who manages to overcome all obstacles (including asthma attacks) and break into the British Newcastle United. But the main thing in the film is not the traditional plot twists and turns, but the fact that Danny Cannon shot the picture in collaboration with FIFA, and therefore “Goal!” chock-full of cameos and depictions of real-life confrontations between real teams. In order to finally “kill” the fans, in 2007 Jaume Collet-Serra filmed the sequel “Goal 2”, in which the hero of the first tape moves to Real Madrid and fights in the Champions League – toe to toe with Beckham and Casillas.

              8. Bend It Like Beckham (2002)

Unlike Goal!, there are only two football star cameos in this film, and among them there is no title super player, but only lesser-known British athletes Gary Lineker and Alan Hansen (Beckham appears in the film either in archival footage or in the performance of a double). But “Play…” does not particularly need men in boots. This is a girl comedy about a British girl from a Punjabi Sikh family (Parminder Nagra), who, secretly from her parents, plays an “unwomanly” sport. In addition to the prize for the best comedian at the International Women’s Film Festival in Bordeaux, Nagra was awarded the FIFA President’s Award for her role in “Play …”. Nevertheless, it was not she who made it to the big stars, but her on-screen friend Keira Knightley. It is easy to guess why…

              7. United. The Munich Tragedy (United, 2011)

In 1958, British football suffered a terrible loss. When trying to take off from Munich Airport, the plane of the Manchester United team crashed while flying home after the match in Belgrade. Many players died, head coach Matt Busby almost died in the hospital. Observers believed that the team would not take such a blow. But she survived. Reservists, players from the junior group and hastily signed new players under second coach Jimmy Murphy showed a game worthy of the MU name. This tragic and glorious story is dedicated to a British television movie released three years ago (it was released as a motion picture outside of Britain), in which David Tennant (the tenth Doctor from Doctor Who) played Murphy, and one of the football players was Sam Claflin, now known for ” Hunger Games.

              6. “Football fever” (Fever Pitch, 1997)

A man, a woman and a team on the way to the championship title is a love triangle worse than those usually found in soap operas! In the British romantic comedy, partly based on the life and experiences of writer Nick Hornby, the main character (Colin Firth) falls in love just as his beloved Arsenal, after a long hiatus, gets another shot at the championship. What will be stronger – an almost pathological addiction to football or attachment to a woman (Ruth Gemmell) who does not approve of sports fanaticism? In addition to the combination of love and football events, “Fever” is curious in that Mark Strong – now a popular “villain” actor in Hollywood and British films – played in it a lightweight comedic role of the protagonist’s friend.

              5. “Coach” (Mike Bassett: England Manager, 2001)

The life of a coach of the English national football team is hard and unsightly! Especially if he is an Englishman, and a controversial victory for him is a matter not only of personal, but also of patriotic prestige. And if he also comes not from the Premier League, but from the first division, then his life completely turns into a series of off-scale experiences and ridiculous incidents. They are the subject of a British satirical comedy about Mike Bassett (Ricky Tomlinson), the former coach of a minor Norwich City team, who leads the English team to victories (or defeats, or somewhere else …). After all the more famous coaches shied away from this “honorable” duty. The Steve Barron film is shot in mockumentary style and many of Bassett’s players are based on real British football stars.

              4. “Escape to Victory” (1981)

The “allies” lack their military achievements, so they steal ours! In Inglorious Basterds, Tarantino “appropriated” a spy actress introduced into Hitler’s entourage (the prototype of Diana Kruger’s heroine was Olga Chekhova, who worked for Stalin’s intelligence), and in Escape to Victory, John Huston borrowed the famous story of the Kyiv “death match”, transferring action in a German camp for Western prisoners of war. In a good way, for this it would be worth disqualifying the American film and including our recent “Match” with Bezrukov instead of it in the hit parade. But the commands are too powerful in it. The Getaway cast was led by Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone, while the football team was led by Bobby Moore and the great Pele himself. The latter not only demonstrated his tricks on the screen, but also staged the “football choreography” of the tape.

              3. “The Damned United” (The Damned United, 2009)

In 1974, the talented British coach Brian Clough led the highly successful Leeds United team at the time and lasted only 44 days in this post. How did it happen that Clough was fired almost immediately after he settled into the team? Five years ago, Tom Hooper, the future director of The King’s Speech, proposed his version of those long-standing, but still exciting events for fans. There is little football in his feed, but it paints a convex picture of those behind-the-scenes games and ideological confrontations that the life of any serious professional team cannot do without. The film was exceptionally praised by critics (in particular, for the brilliant performance of Martin Sheen as Clough), but the family of the late coach said that “in fact, it was not at all like that.”

              2. Mean Machine (2001)

Actors from early Guy Ritchie hits play football? Leave us a place in the stands! Somewhere closer to Vinnie Jones, who played the former captain of the British football team, who goes to prison and trains a team of prisoners for a friendly match with a team of guards. You don’t need to watch this tragicomedy to imagine how “friendly” their match is. It is clear that this is another variation on the theme of the “death match”, but since the “Bone Breaker” does not steal military exploits from the USSR, then we have no complaints about it. There is only one joy about the bright picture, where, along with sports actors like Jones and Jason Statham, acting athletes like Charlie Heartfield from Sheffield United starred.

              1. Killer Football (Shaolin Soccer, 2001)

The craziest, the most unpredictable, the most special effects, the most dizzying, the most hilarious. .. Excellent epithets for describing Stephen Chow’s kungfu comedy can be multiplied endlessly. Yes, she does not respect the rules of football much and does not respect the laws of physics at all. But let real athletes follow the rules and laws, and we expect incredible Shaolin football from Hong Kong actors. And this is exactly the kind of fantastic martial arts-rich sport that we got from Chow in 2001. Before Football, this actor and director was well known in his homeland, but in 2001 he entered the international level. And all that was required was to assemble a team of screen kungfu masters on the screen and send them to play in the open championship for the Hong Kong Cup. Where, of course, no one is surprised by athletes who can fly or move at superhuman speed.

              By Jackie

I let my 5-year old son help paint the focal wall in my studio.  Amazingly, there are no blue paint drips on the cork floor or stray paint roller marks anywhere in the room.  You might think I am crazy, but when you have an eager helper it is sometimes easier to let them help then to limit yourself to doing projects when they are not around.  So, what is my secret to painting with kids?

Well, just like anything else with kids, it requires patience, supervision, and ground rules.  Everything takes more time with kids, so be patient.  Supervision is important with paint (and anything else messy or toxic if ingested).  There are ground rules for parent and child.

Here are the ground rules I follow for painting with kids.

              Rules for Mommy:

              • Cut in first without a child present.  Cutting in takes a steady hand and focus.  I prefer to do it by myself before letting my son help.  I actually trimmed this wall while he was at school and did the first coat of paint.  I let him help with a second coat after school.
              • If a child is painting, mommy is not painting.  I do not had my son a brush or roller, and then turn my back to do my painting.  Instead, I supervise and help him.
              • Only mommy loads the roller.  I have seen my son squeeze glue out of a glue bottle, there is no way I am letting that kid decide the right amount of paint to load on a roller.  I load it, he rolls it.
              • Mommy is quality control.  Re-roll over any areas that need it after your child has had a chance to paint.  Rollers are heavy for kids and it is hard for them to push against the wall and get even coverage.  I let my son roll as best he could, then I took the roller and went over the same area.

Rules for Child: (I talked to my son about these rules before we started)

              • Listen to mommy and mommy will show you how to paint.
              • Mommy gets to paint the top part of the wall, you get to paint the bottom.  There is plenty of wall for kids to paint below 4 ft, so I keep my son off the ladder.
              • Do not set down the paint roller, touch the paint roller except on the handle, or let the paint roller touch anything else in the room.  Hand the paint roller to mommy when you are done.
              • Hold the roller firmly with both hands.  I let me son put one hand on the handle and one on the bar holding the roller.  It was easier for him this way.

My son happily helped me finish the second coat of paint on the focal wall.  It only took about 20 minutes, which was perfect for his attention span and my patience.  I think he liked painting, because he is dreaming up what rooms we can paint next 🙂

CREATIVE PAINT IDEAS FOR WALLS IN KIDS’ ROOMS

Paint is genuinely one of the most transformative solutions in an interior decorators’ armoury. Used alone, it can create feature walls and ceilings of conviction. Paired with wall stickers and murals, it adds depth and texture and delivers entire room scenes. It breathes life into tired furniture and modernises family heirlooms in an instant.

It offers the possibility to start small with intrepid steps of discovery and exploration, but it also presents a challenge for those ready to mix and match, rag roll, sponge and colour wash. Styling primarily with paint invites our inner artist to let loose and is a great way to use up odds and ends from past projects.

There aren’t any rules when it comes to creative paint ideas for kids’ rooms. Don your decorator’s dungarees, grab a paintbrush and let the strokes work their genius on your blank canvas. But first, you might want to be inspired by these examples of paintwork mastery.

              @3boysandahome

It’s hard to believe that this adventurous boy’s room was inspired by the desire to use up leftover paint from the garage. A spectacular DIY mountain range has been created using Farrow & Ball’s Oval Room Blue and Dulux’s Night Jewels. The finishing touch of snow-capped peaks is sublime! The little one’s obsession with big cats meant a ‘mountain tiger’ by @nordicnest was a must-have addition to this precision paint job.

              @athomewiththeraines

The scallop was a hard-hitting design trend for 2020, and this elegant and charming repeated series of arcs shows no sign of slowing down. Here, Georgina uses it to great effect by creating a sea of waves in Farrow & Ball’s Oval Room Blue. A rattan mirror with a sunny disposition by @georgeatasda gleams down approvingly on the scene of DIY perfection. The delicate pom-pom trim on the wigwam and the pom-pom garland by @the_pom_mamma pleasingly complete the circle.

              @deniseandthefam

Denise, the master of feature walls, brings us a warming blast of sunset and earthy, autumnal tones in her skilful application of four complementary shades. The irregular shapes of the torn paper look add another dimension of texture and depth, creating the illusion of the sky and earth in its many guises as the weary day comes to a close. The sun-scorched, dusty, arid effect frames the house bed by @madedotcom beautifully.  A personalised star poster by @nachthimmel.de captures a poignant moment and brings another notion of the setting sun to this dreamy room. And as for the ombre wall art plant sprouting from the foot of the bed? Inspired.

              @elinlagerquist

Just out of shot is a wonderful wooden wall art quote by Astrid Lindgren, the famed author of Pippi Longstocking. It reads, “And we played and played and played. It’s a wonder we didn’t play ourselves to death!”

It encapsulates this area of Arvid’s room so well. How inspired to paint a mountain range behind a climbing frame and wall boulders. This way, Arvid can really feel like he is scaling new heights. Aesthetically outstanding but also nurturing and encouraging, this wall art teaches the art of goal setting and accomplishment.

              @foursmallrebels

Soothing pastels and a watercolour effect collide to create a quartet of dusty paths trailing off into the horizon. A lemon night sky breaks with tradition sporting a full moon playing hide and seek behind a pale mint canopy by @matuukids.  A raft of delicate rattan and natural wood, including the divine hanging octopus, complete this boho look.

              @housekidscats

Somewhere over the rainbow is clever mama, Claire, who created this work of art. This is another beautiful example of the fruits of leftover paint, including Dusky blush by @frenchicpaint, Hammerite’s gold metal paint and Hicks Blue by @littlegreenpaintcompany.  The green arc was matched to the sage colour of the industrial locker by @mustardmade. The uplifting rainbow vibes are brought to the fore against Farrow & Ball’s heavenly Calamine.

              @interiors_at_hollys

A low-lying putty scalloped wall happily coexists with a dalmatian dappled rainbow mural in this lofty, neutral space. We love how the decals on the pelmet match the mono arc with polka dot bedlinen joining the spotty party.  Not only does the rainbow mural deliver an arresting feature wall, but it serves as a harmonious connector between the two beds in this shared bedroom.

              @jessiegirlhome

There are rainbow rooms, and there are rainbow rooms! This impressive multicoloured shiplap wall was achieved with a monumental 18 colours, all bought online. Jessie painstakingly flicked backwards and forwards between paint swatches on Pinterest and experimented with mixing the Sherwin-Williams sample pots. She used their ColorSnap Visualiser to get the combos right. And the best hack? Instead of using painter’s tape, Jessie used a 6-inch putty knife between the boards as she painted to stop bleeding between the colours and unsightly paint build-up in the cracks. The natural yarn DIY headboard provides a delicate contrast to anchor all of the colour in Emma’s room. And the best bit? It’s crafted out of pool noodles wrapped with yarn!

              @linestampedahl

It’s all the fun of the fair in Einer’s big top circus-inspired bedroom. This superb example proves that creative paint ideas do not need to be confined only to walls. We love the way the mustard-gold radiates from the ceiling pendant like a burst of warm sunshine above. We imagine it’s a soothing sight from the top bunk of Oliver Furniture’s white oak bed. A playful garland adds credence to the circus vibes and an extra splash of colour to this stylish, neutral room.

              @lundyfoxwood

This interior design house showcases the wonders of combining paint and murals to maximum effect. The Dunes wallpaper by @anewalldecor brings the magic to this desert-inspired oasis, topped with a sprinkling of mobile gold stars. You can almost feel the warmth of the baby pink skies above the peachy terracotta sand dunes. A discrete crescent moon peeks out behind a panelled salmon door, and natural furnishings and accessories represent the sandy terrain.

              @mamadrey88

Mama of 3, Audrey, was inspired to paint this whimsical giant sunshine during the pandemic lockdown. It was an absence of vacations that prompted the decision, but a wallpaper also inspired it with a similar concept that retailed at $450. Amazingly, it was a $15 tin of paint and a whole heap of courage that brought this colourful splash to Theo’s sun-kissed bedroom.

              @mkkidsinteriors

When mummy is a kids’ interior designer, the odds are pretty high that you’ll have a bedroom scheme to die for. Eliana’s canopy-clad house bed basks in the glow of a freestyled rainbow mural in 8 sumptuous shades. It goes one better than the classic nursery rhyme with an extra arc of blush and a cotton candy flower. The palette is punchy and complemented by mouth-watering hundreds and thousands inspired bedlinen and bright polka dot curtains.

              @our1sthome

Rose confesses that the scalloped wall took about 16 hours more than she anticipated, but we think it’s more than worth it. Dulux’s soft Stone shade vibes well with the natural cot and giant pear storage basket by @laurashleyuk, and a sprinkling of gold star stickers adds an extra touch of girly charm.

              @bethany.katarina

A sea of rattan and a ton of terracotta make for the dreamiest nursery space, but it’s that deftly painted wall that steals the show. Creamy white and peachy blush taper off into the distance, sandwiched between spicy cinnamon and apricot. The vibe could be Arabian nights, Moroccan bazaar or coastal boho.

              @crateandkids

When life imitates art. This statement wall is created by drawing a rounded shape freehand onto the wall. In this case, the colour of choice is Benjamin Moore’s Mexican Tile. The arch frames the Hampshire blush crib beautifully but what we love most is how it appears to follow the form of the pink-hued rainbow print.

If a child draws on the walls

What should you do if you find works by a young artist on walls, furniture and even household appliances? Many parents get angry and annoyed with their children, punishing them for it. Are they right? Let’s figure it out. First of all, you need to understand why the kid draws not in a sketchbook, but in his mother’s book, his father’s documents, his older brother’s notebook and on the walls in his room. It turns out that leaving a mark is very important for a small child. Your mark. And he discovers that he can do it with a pencil, pen or felt-tip pen. The trace left behind means: “I am. And I’m glad about it.”

A child of 2–3 years old cannot draw yet, he does not even immediately understand that the sheet has edges. His movements are still poorly coordinated – he draws with a pencil on paper and inadvertently goes beyond the boundaries of the sheet. Then he discovers that the trace of the pencil remained on the table. This is of interest. He immediately begins to draw on the table.

At this age, the child does not strive to accurately depict a house, the sun, a flower or a car. He draws a “doodle-doodle” and calls her mom or dad, car or house. He does not care about the accuracy of his own drawing, he is fascinated by the creative process, a flight of fancy, the study of the properties of objects (in this case, a pencil, pen, felt-tip pens, paints). For a child, it is important that he did something, produced himself. For example, he drew a line with a pencil in his father’s papers or in his mother’s book.

In the mind of a child, it is also very interesting to draw on the walls, because the wall differs in its properties from the album sheet, where adults usually ask him to draw. Drawing on the wall gives the child new sensations and impressions. He’s curious. And curiosity, as you know, is a sign of intelligence.

So why punish a young artist? For the signs of the mind, the creative process, the study of the world around him, or for the fact that he is eager to leave his mark on his beloved mother or father? It turns out that there is nothing to punish! It’s just that the child needs to be shown that this creative process has another side. This is when mom and dad get upset when they see the painted walls in their baby’s room, and they have to clean them with soap and water. Here’s what you need to pay attention to the child. Tell him that it’s not customary to paint houses on the walls, that you don’t like to see painted walls and don’t want to waste time cleaning them later. Better instead, you play with your baby or read a book to him. And since you had to scrub the walls, give the young artist tools for work, let him work with you. Only in this way will he be able to understand why you do not want to do this regularly. At the same time, he explores the properties of the wall and when it is laundered.

In some cases, children draw on walls and furniture in defiance of their parents when they do not allow them to draw or restrict their access to pencils and a sketchbook.

A child can draw on the wall if inspiration suddenly floods over him and he simply cannot resist the desire to immediately begin the creative process. Therefore, dear parents, if you want your baby to draw in a sketchbook while sitting at your desk, give him the opportunity to draw when he wants. Give him a permanent place to draw, with pencils and blank sheets of paper always available. Then, at any moment, as soon as inspiration floods over the baby, he will be able to realize it in a suitable place for this.

Teach your child to follow the rules, in this case, to draw only in a specially designed place. Tell them that you can draw on paper, but not on the table and walls. Engage your child with interesting creative activities in his drawing corner, then it would never occur to him to draw on the wall.

Don’t get annoyed with your little one if you find pencil marks on the table where he drew. The kid might have done it by accident. Teach him to be clean and tidy. If he draws with paints, put on him a special apron. Explain that this will keep the clothes clean. After drawing, tell them that they need to wash their hands and put the place for drawing in order: put the drawings in a drawer, paints in place, pencils in a box, and wipe the table clean. Let the baby not only see how you put things in order, but also take part in this. Gradually, he will learn all the necessary rules and learn to follow them. But this won’t happen overnight, so be patient and know that your little one will still paint on walls and furniture from time to time, despite your warnings. Continue to explain and clean up the room with your baby. And to satisfy his desire in the diversity of the creative process and the exploration of the world – buy him an easel. Let him draw standing up, if he likes it, and on large sheets of paper. Or give a young artist a special corner for drawing, in which a large sheet of drawing paper will hang on the wall. Say that you can draw here, because you protected the wall with a large sheet and after that you won’t have to wash it.

And to those parents who get annoyed with their child because of his art on the walls and furniture, I want to say the following: be glad that your child is healthy, energetic and curious! Rejoice that he has become interested in drawing, and help him master this process – provide all the opportunities for this both at home and outside. Try to keep your child’s interest in drawing even at an older age. And let it not be like in the well-known joke: “First we teach children to walk and talk, and then sit and be silent.” Let’s act wisely and pass on the existing rules to the children so as not to overdo it with them and not extinguish his creative impulses and inspiration in the child, not ruin his individuality!

              Wishing you success

(Note: as a prevention of drawing on the walls, read the story “Seryozha draws” from book 1 “Once upon a time Seryozha” to your child.)

A child draws on wallpaper: simple ways to fix situation

When a child appears in a young family, then, naturally, life becomes not so easy when there were two of you. And this applies not only to the regime of the day, the principles of nutrition, the distribution of household chores. When a kid picks up a pencil or marker and realizes that this thing can draw interesting curlicues, doors, furniture and, of course, wallpaper are the first to suffer.

Why do children enjoy painting walls so much?

All children are born with the right hemisphere, that is, with inherent creative abilities. It is only later, as they grow older, the left hemisphere develops and becomes the leading one.

Besides, a child is not given to understand where there are boundaries of what is permitted. Awareness (albeit small) begins to come to them already at the age of 3-5 years. A one-year-old baby is unlikely to understand what you want from him and why you forbid drawing on the walls. In the end, all children love bright colors, especially they like contrast – that’s why they make their drawings on light-colored wallpaper in black or any dark color.

All this leads to a simple result, so to speak, ordinary everyday arithmetic: creativity is in the child’s blood. And since the child’s psyche is still immature, the most convenient way is to transfer your fantasies to the walls.

What should I do if my child draws on the wallpaper?

Of course, everything can be fixed.

First of all, you should start by creating a comfortable place where it will be convenient for your child to draw. For example, if there is still a large table at home, and a small one is only in the plans, then you should take care of buying a comfortable chair. There are excellent growing models that adapt to the growth of the child and will serve you for a long time. Secondly, if the kid is two years old, then it’s time to get him a “workplace” – a table and a chair, where he will not only draw, but also play board games, and engage in developmental activities.

However, if you want to create comfortable conditions for the development of creativity for your child, then you can arrange separate corners for drawing in the house, which, undoubtedly, your child will like more than a standard table and chair.

              @nazya.com

              Easel

Children are interested in drawing on large sheets, which is why they often choose wallpaper for themselves – there are no boundaries at all and you can create as much as you like. Try to set up an easel, but just don’t limit your child to a standard A4 sheet – let him draw at least on whatman paper. Or you can go even further and offer the young artist a whole roll of paper. It is attached to an easel, and the drawing area can always be shifted, thereby continuing the drawing.

              Special Coating

If you don’t plan to do repairs in the near future, but you really want to protect the wallpaper, use a water-based acrylic varnish. In fact, it is used for flock liquid wallpaper and other surfaces to protect against scuffs and water. In such a simple way, you get washable wallpapers from ordinary wallpapers. And if at the same time you also choose a matte varnish, then such a “refinement” will be generally invisible.

              Blackboard paint

In the child’s room, you can cover some part of the wall with paint that is used for blackboards at school. In general, according to psychologists, this is an ideal solution. In addition, it is one of the longest-term ones, since such an idea will become a salvation even when the baby goes to school – you can leave notes for the child, explain the material, solve examples, use it as a draft.

              Wallpaper for drawing

This method has its own peculiarity that cannot be ignored.

So, on sale you can find wallpaper models that are just designed for coloring. Often they are bought in a children’s room so that the baby can reach his potential, and parents do not grieve about the damaged paintings in the living room or hallway. Usually they depict plants, animals, fairy-tale characters and other silhouettes that may interest the baby – take it and sketch it, even with a felt-tip pen, even with a marker.

However, do not forget that a small child is not yet able to understand why he can draw on the walls in his room, but it is forbidden in his parents’ bedroom. In other words, such a restriction will annoy the child, because from the point of view of a fragile psyche, the principle applies: either you can paint wallpaper in all rooms or you can’t paint anywhere at all.

However, for children from 3 years old, such wallpapers will be a real salvation, because at this age it is already possible to explain to the child why you are guided by the rule “draw only in your room”.

Perhaps the easiest way to solve the problem with painted walls is to let the child do his own thing and look at the situation more prosaically.
