Importance of reading to kids: The importance of reading to kids daily

Why It’s So Important and How to Start

Babies and young children are sponges that soak in practically everything in their environments. It’s true! Even during story time, their minds are at work, taking in all the language they hear and lessons the characters learn.

Reading to your child — at any age — will boost their brain development, your bond, and so much more. And all it takes is a few books, motivation, and a little time.

Here’s how to get started.

First, set the scene in your head. You choose a book. You sit down in your favorite armchair, with your child in your lap, and open to the first of many smooth, colorful pages.

You begin to read, and your child is utterly captivated by the story. It’s magic. What’s even better is that your child isn’t just having fun, they’re learning!

Reality may look a little different: Just know you’re not alone if your baby tries to eat the book or your toddler wanders around the room instead of sitting patiently. But the benefits of reading remain the same.

Bonding

Reading provides a wonderful opportunity for you and your child to connect. It’s a nice way to spend time together and slow down during an otherwise hectic day.

Research from 2008 pointed out how reading can support a solid parent-child relationship. Kids feel secure when they’re read to. Plus, caregivers who have a positive attitude toward books and reading in turn help their children view literacy in a positive way.

Listening skills

Hearing a story read aloud involves some level of comprehension on your child’s part. And comprehension is dependent on paying attention — in other words, listening skills.

The experts at Scholastic explain that listening is a skill kids must acquire before they can read themselves.

They suggest that books on tape are a great addition to reading one-on-one with your child. These often provide entertainment value, too, like silly voices, music, and other embellishments.

Cognitive and language development

Even the youngest children benefit from hearing their caregivers read to them. A 2013 study showed that babies who are read to and talked to score higher in language skills and cognitive development, like problem solving.

Research from 2018 suggests that this link extends throughout childhood into the teen years. In fact, researchers say that verbal interactions (reading, talking, etc.) between parents and young kids may promote higher language and IQ scores all the way up to age 14.

Expanded vocabulary

Experts from the National Center on Early Childhood Development, Teaching and Learning also explain that reading books to kids helps expand the number and variety of words they use. Think about it: The books you read often contain words you might not otherwise use in your everyday communications.

While reading a book, you might end up using more specific names for different plants or animals or use more adjectives (descriptive words) altogether. And this adds up.

One 2019 study estimated that children who are regularly read to in the 5 years leading up to kindergarten are exposed to 1.4 million more words than children who aren’t read to during those years.

Attention span

Dinah Castro, a bilingual family well-being educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension, shares that reading to children helps them develop key concentration and self-discipline skills.

You’ve probably dealt with a squirming, distracted toddler at story hour. But what you may also notice is that — over time — regular reading gets kids listening in order to comprehend.

And when they’re listening, they’re more likely to sit still, develop a longer attention span, and even work on their budding memory-retention skills.

Creativity

Books and stories open up a whole new world to your child. Yes, there are plenty of nonfiction books on dinosaurs, bugs, and airplanes. Fiction stories, though, go beyond the real world and employ fantasy elements that get kids thinking outside the box.

Children have vivid imaginations as is, so reading serves to further feed their creativity. And experts at PBS note that creativity is important for developing interests and ideas, as well as for fostering emotional health.

Life lessons

Books provide an opportunity to talk about real-world situations in age-appropriate ways. Kids especially enjoy books that feature children their own ages doing things they do in everyday life.

Along with modeling what happens in various situations, reading books on targeted subjects may help children not feel alone when they deal with something new, like moving across the country, or something potentially uncomfortable, like going to the dentist.

Social and emotional development

Castro also says that reading to young children teaches them how to cope with “difficult or stressful experiences.” She further explains that reading stories about potentially emotional situations, like starting at a new school, can help get a conversation going and show children that their feelings are normal.

Start today! Babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and even older children all benefit from having a caregiver read to them. You don’t even need a large personal library of books to get started.

Think beyond the store — you can find a wide variety of books at your local library, secondhand shop, or Little Free Library. You can even encourage your child to borrow books from and lend them to their friends.

The youngest babies (under 6 months old) benefit from books that have simple but bold or bright images with lots of contrast. Talk to your baby as you look at the books, but words on the page aren’t necessary.

As they get a bit older (7 to 12 months), you may want to expand your collection to books with simple phrases or just a line of text that relates to the picture on the page.

Babies ages 12 to 18 months may find books with pictures of other children doing everyday things interesting. Same goes for books that have animals, television characters, or other familiar scenes in them. For this age group, you may look for books that have more detailed pictures and a simple story or progression of events.

As your baby starts to babble and eventually talk, try involving them in what they see on the page.

For example, point to a picture and ask “What’s that?” or declare “That’s a banana!” to get your child engaging with the book. Keep it positive and try to repeat your child’s words back to them (“Yes — that looks like a cat, but it’s actually a squirrel!”).

There are lots of books, so try not to get too overwhelmed. Nursery rhymes, especially ones you might have memorized, are a good choice for babies.

And as far as construction, look for sturdy books that are made from cardboard (board books), fabric, or vinyl. Books with handles are also fun and let your baby transition from reading time to play time.

Kids between the ages of 19 and 30 months also enjoy books that feature familiar characters.

At this age, they tend to favor books with lots of action, pictures, and details versus lots of words on the page. Look for books that contain short stories, particularly those with cause-and-effect relationships or a problem that the characters must work to overcome.

Repetition is important at this age, so try to find books that allow you to rhyme, sing, or otherwise repeat the text in some way. While you’re at it, take some time to pause as you read books with repetition to see if your little one fills in the blank.

You may also want to take time to draw connections between a main character and your child. For example, you might point out, “He’s sleeping in a big boy bed, just like you!”

By the way, you can start introducing books made with paper pages versus board books at this age. Just be sure to supervise to guard against your child ripping the pages.

Preschoolers and elementary school-aged kids have a wide range of reading abilities. It’s a good idea to take their lead when it comes to simple versus complex books.

Younger kids (and even some older ones) may still appreciate pictures with little text. That said, you can start introducing stories that have more complex plots in them and books with more words than pictures — even chapter books.

As your child begins reading on their own, you might involve them in the process of reading together by asking them to read words or sentences out loud along the way. This is great practice.

Ask questions as you move through the text, too — you don’t have to wait until the end of the book or chapter to check your child’s comprehension. Try open-ended questions like “What do you think might happen next?” These will help your child delve deeper, rather than surface questions like “What color is the house?”

Experts recommend engaging in literacy activities (like reading) for around 30 minutes per day. But you can also think outside the book here.

Try reading traffic signs or cereal boxes, singing songs, listening to audiobooks together, or having your child read to you to the best of their ability. It’s all good.

Librarian Donna Jeansonne says that you shouldn’t stop reading to your child once they learn to read themselves. While independent reading is certainly important, reading out loud to kids as old as age 14 still holds benefits, both academically and emotionally.

At this age, it’s about your older child’s reading fluency and comprehension. It may be helpful for them to follow along in the book as you read. And consider asking questions about the text to gauge their comprehension.

Again, all you really need to do is take the time to read to your child. It’s truly as simple as that. However, you might be wondering how to make the experience more enjoyable for everyone.

Here are some tips:

  • Be consistent. Whether it’s one book per day or 15, try to make reading a part of your regular routine. And while you’re at it, you don’t have to read different books each time you sit down. Kids love hearing the same stories over and over again — and they learn through this type of repetition.
  • Take your time. Be sure to leave enough time to read versus sneaking it in or — worse — making it a chore. Of course, you won’t have loads of time each day to read, so some quickies are just fine. However, your child should see reading as a dedicated activity and one that you give your full attention to.
  • Make it fun. Use different voices for characters, pauses, songs, or other dramatics to make the story come to life. Reading with flair will help your child better understand the story. It also provides a good model of expressive and fluent reading for kids who have begun reading by themselves.
  • Point out connections. Children love applying stories to their own lives. It not only makes the text more meaningful, but it also may help your child cope with different situations they encounter in their everyday experience. Point out those connections to your child. Note where the character was brave about that monster beneath their bed. Applaud the character who used the potty for the first time.
  • Don’t stop with books. Any exchange of words is beneficial to kids. So, if you’re uninspired by books one night, turn to telling stories. You can also look at pictures and talk about what you see or ask your child to be the storyteller. Anything that gets language flowing between you and your child is golden.

When it comes to early literacy and language skills, both the quality and quantity of the words you speak to your child matter. Books provide an excellent opportunity to get talking, telling stories, and connecting with your little one.

If you still don’t know exactly how to start, consider hitting up your local library and chatting with a librarian in the children’s department. You can get book suggestions, take out books and other media for free, and sign up for events (like in-person or virtual story hours) that’ll get your whole family inspired to read.

Castro also says that reading to young children teaches them how to cope with “difficult or stressful experiences. ” She further explains that reading stories about potentially emotional situations, like starting at a new school, can help get a conversation going and show children that their feelings are normal.

The benefits of reading books for children or how to cultivate curiosity

A wide variety of gadgets, computer games, audio books gradually turns reading as such into an “uninteresting” activity for the younger generation. Instead of fiction, parents buy game consoles for their children, allow them to watch uncontrolled television programs that inhibit brain development. It is much easier to get information from short messages, provided with a mass of visual accompaniment.

By the way, according to the Public Opinion Foundation, Russia has long ceased to be the most reading country, and 44% of citizens have never opened a book in a year. This is understandable – babies are now practically born in hands with a touchscreen phone, and adults are gradually switching to a passive perception of information from electronic devices.

Why do children need to read?

Meanwhile, scientists have proven that reading for 6 minutes reduces stress levels by more than 2 times. Listening to soothing music and walking are only in second and third place in relieving stress.

Researchers in the UK claim that reading is as beneficial to the body as fitness is to the muscles, because during this process a person exercises the entire brain.

There are completely different processes in the gray matter if you read for pleasure and if you are trying to learn information, for example, to pass an exam. Scientists conducted research and found that at the moment of transition from ordinary reading to the desire to memorize the text in detail, active blood circulation begins in the head and the type of nervous activity completely changes. Blood reaches those areas of the brain that are responsible for cognition and concentration. Any kind of neurological load is good for the brain, it activates blood circulation, improves tissue nutrition.

What is the main benefit of reading?

The benefits of books for children are beyond doubt. Children love to be read to. It is from the parents that the baby hears the first poems and fairy tales, and if the parents do not ignore reading even the smallest, then with a very high probability the book will soon become the child’s best friend. Why? Because the book :

  • introduces everything that surrounds the child: nature, objects, etc.
  • influences the formation of preferences and reading tastes of the child
  • develops thinking – both logical and figurative
  • expands vocabulary, memory, imagination and fantasy
  • teaches how to write sentences correctly.

Through reading, the child learns to listen – and this is important. Getting acquainted with books, the child learns his native language better.

Children usually look forward to being read to by their parents. Reading aloud is of great importance for those children who can already read the book themselves. Family reading is a guarantee of well-being, a way of communication between parents and children, a method of education and good leisure. That is why mom and dad should always have time to read to children.

Psychologists believe that children to whom parents read books are emotionally balanced and self-confident.

Here’s what happens when we read together:

  1. Children who are often read to feel close, protected, safe. Such children are much more comfortable to live than those who are deprived of the joy of reading.
  2. While reading together, children form a moral attitude towards the world. The heroes of the books do a variety of things, get into false situations, make decisions – all this the child can discuss with the parent, while forming an understanding of good and evil, friendship and betrayal, sympathy, duty, honor.
  3. With active listening, the child vividly imagines what is being narrated and experiences. At these moments, he develops emotionally and, often identifying himself with the main character, overcomes his own fears.
  4. When listening to a literary work, the child inherits a variety of behaviors through the book: for example, how to become a good friend, how to achieve a goal, or how to resolve a conflict. The role of parents here is to help compare situations from a fairy tale with situations that can happen in real life.

The book is the key to child development

The benefits of reading books for children are very great. And here a book is a good helper, which helps to shape the worldview of the child, his morality, values, and the general level of culture.

From the first books, the little ones learn about the rules of politeness and the basics of health, as well as the simplest rules of life. Toddlers are often read short folklore works, unpretentious poems, in which folk wisdom is presented in forms accessible to crumbs.

Instilling a love of reading in AMAKids

AMAKids Intelligence Development Academy pays special attention to reading and has developed a whole methodology to increase reading speed. The technique is called Liberica. After completing the Liberica course, you will be able to read books at lightning speed and work with large amounts of information at the same speed. This is a practical skill, acquiring it, the reading speed increases by 5 or more times relative to the starting readings after completing the main course of Liberica. And 10 times or more when fully exploring Liberica and Liberica+. AMAKids students perceive reading as an interesting process and easily immerse themselves in the material. Reading becomes more fun, children read with pleasure.

After completing the course of Liberica, children not only increase their reading speed, but also improve the assimilation of the information they read. When reading, we kind of immerse ourselves in the book, visualize the plot, imagine ourselves as a participant in dramatic actions. At this moment, those parts of the gray matter begin to work, which, in the absence of such a load, usually sleep. Neither computer games nor watching TV shows have a similar effect.

So read books and instill a love of reading in your children from an early age with the Liberic Method. No wonder they say that there are two categories of people: those who read books and those who listen to those who read.

The value of books for a child is very great. Books serve to expand the child’s understanding of the world, to acquaint him with things, nature, everything that surrounds him.

From childhood, while reading books, a person actively develops his thinking. The book awakens both thought and imagination. The book teaches perseverance and the development of independent work skills, makes you think, analyze, predict. These qualities are important in order to cope with life’s problems and worries, to find solutions to the most difficult tasks. Books form the worldview, values, beliefs, personal philosophy. All this indicates an impact on the standard of living. The book opens up a new, still unknown and huge world for the child. If children see books and reading as a source of information, then all the knowledge accumulated by mankind will be open to them.

It is best to introduce a child to books from birth. A book is a very important form of communication between a child and parents. Books can be read to a child from the cradle. While you are taking care of the baby (bathing, feeding, etc.), tell him little nursery rhymes and fairy tales. Of course, the baby still does not understand anything, but he perfectly captures intonation and sounds.

It is necessary to instill a love for books from early childhood, then there will be no problems later. The child should develop the habit of reading, and then at an older age, he will also continue to read.

Parents should make every effort to develop the need for reading in children. And then it will not be very important when the child reads the first book on his own for the first time: at the age of 4 or in the first grade. The door to the wonderful world of literature will be opened. The great merit of books is the morality they contain.

The ability to read involves a whole range of skills, and mastering each of them requires effort. It is not enough to remember all the letters and learn how to put words out of them, and then sentences. You will have to train your memory so as not to forget its beginning by the end of the phrase, and by the second page – the content of the first. When reading or listening to a book, children imagine themselves in the place of the main characters. A wonderful world opens before them, full of princesses, noble deeds and evil sorcerers. The book for the child acts as a teacher, shows him which actions are good and which are bad. This book compares favorably with a movie or a cartoon, in which the characters are given ready-made – the way the creator of the film wanted to present them. Sometimes difficult experiences prompt a child to re-read the same books many times until his own point of view crystallizes, and nothing can replace this work of the soul.

The deep meaning of children’s fairy tales directly affects the upbringing of the child, telling him about good and evil, about good and bad deeds. On the example of favorite characters, the child will be able to learn how to act and what actions to avoid. Sometimes books act on controversy by making villains the main characters and ridiculing their bad deeds. By explaining to the child the meaning and content of the book, the parent will help not only develop the imagination, but also influence the competent establishment of a causal relationship. With the help of literature, the child will be able to understand that any action is followed by its consequences, and that any bad deed will sooner or later be punished. Establishing cause-and-effect relationships in babies is difficult, but thanks to the literature, this difficult moment of learning will also be mastered.

Reading helps to increase vocabulary and develop speech. And each new word that has become clear expands the boundaries of the world, enriches it with new meanings. His thinking becomes more harmonious and orderly, a solid foundation for further education is formed.

Regular exposure of a child to a book can lead to a lifelong love of the written word. By introducing books into your child’s daily routine, you will instill a reading habit in him, probably for the rest of his life. It is worth noting that when a child listens to books, he can become more independent. While reading, concentration increases and the child learns to listen to what the other is saying. To get into the story, the child is in the maximum center of attention and carefully listens to every word. This improves his concentration. Also, while you are reading a fairy tale, it teaches that we should be silent and listen to someone talking. After reading, be sure to ask the child to briefly talk about what he heard and learned new things.

Another great virtue of books is that they arouse deep interest in the child. If the kid likes this or that book, he will definitely read it to the end, developing both his own imagination and his perseverance. Psychologists have long proven that children who read a lot have a calm character. They are able to focus their attention on a specific object of study for a longer time, and this, in turn, greatly facilitates the learning process. Those children who read a lot in childhood and often spent time reading a book will be much more diligent at school.

Do not worry if the child reads the same book several times. Children are more comfortable when they already know the end of their favorite story and can tell it by heart. Reread your favorite books with your child, but slowly offer him new options.

Books can also improve memory. Learn poetry, tell stories and so on. Sooner or later, the child himself will begin to tell his parents this or that work. Especially this effect is obtained in the evening.

If you want your child to read, set an example for him. If he sees that there are books and magazines in the house, then he will know that you value reading and will follow your example. The main thing is not to force them to read, otherwise the child will perceive the process as hard labor, a punishment that they want to get rid of as soon as possible. After such measures, your child is unlikely to want to continue reading for himself. After all, first of all, a book is still entertainment and endless hours of pleasure. It should be perceived as a pleasant activity, a source of interesting and useful information, and not an imposed necessity. Also, parents should carefully select literary material for their child. At an early stage of development, when the baby is just beginning to reach for books, it is worth selecting for him only the most interesting works, short tales and parables with vivid images. In the future, the child can move on to the study of more serious and complex works. Such a progressive approach will help the baby find his favorite genre of literature and get acquainted with a rich selection of children’s works.

Reading children’s books together with parents will bring the family closer. Such children will never feel lonely, and parents will have the opportunity to find out the range of interests of their child, because often the child associates himself in the future with his favorite character. You can arrange a general discussion after reading the book, so you will teach your child to express his thoughts clearly, listen to the opinions of others and develop communication skills with other people. Psychologists believe that children to whom parents read books are emotionally balanced and self-confident. Visit bookstores. Build an interesting children’s library at home. Get inspiring books that are colorful and fun to keep kids excited to read even more. Solve crossword puzzles, charades, rebuses, interesting logic puzzles with children. Encourage children to read aloud, train reading technique, expressiveness. In order for a child to grow up mentally healthy, he needs full communication with his parents, personal communication, when attention is paid to him completely, and reading together provides such an opportunity. Experience shows that those children who were read books in childhood, told fairy tales, becoming adults, they read a lot. Reading helps the child learn the language better, develops imagination.

The book will always help to find contact with the baby, get close to him, talk heart to heart and just be together, not to mention the fact that it can give the child many useful qualities. By accustoming a child to reading and offering him interesting, informative books, we educate him. Books awaken interest in study, work, self-knowledge. Explain to your child that the more he reads, the better he learns. From the moment of coming to school, the child should realize that much knowledge needs to be obtained on his own, and the book will help in this.

Whether a child loves to read depends not only on the teacher. The merit in it, first of all, parents. If an atmosphere of respect for the book reigns in the house, and parents respond to the child’s requests to read, help to understand something, then the child will appreciate reading as one of the integral components of life.

If a child shows interest in books, it is necessary to support and develop him. You need to offer the child to draw his favorite character or come up with an ending for some story from the book. These exercises will help develop thinking, logic and attentiveness, and such books as “Moydodyr” or “Fedorino’s grief” will teach the child to hygiene.

Nowadays, children are less and less likely to pick up a book. This is due to the fact that the modern world is literally crammed with television and the Internet. Also, this may be due to irresponsible parents who mistakenly believe that a child can learn all the necessary knowledge in life from TV or the Internet. But we should not forget that it is very important for a child to read a book before going to bed. At first, she simply helps him fall asleep, but on a subconscious level, the child has the necessary information that will definitely come in handy in the future.

It is important that the child gets acquainted not only with domestic, but also with foreign literature. You can start with simple fairy tales br. Grimm, G. Andersen and the adventures of J. Swift and M. Twain. This will help in the future to realize yourself as part of a big world that does not end with the framework of home and school.

The role of reading in the development of every child is great. After all, reading has a huge impact on the development of the child: his intellect, creative and logical thinking, emotional and social development, psychological and psychophysiological development. Reading develops the speech of the child, contributes to the formation of the correct moral and aesthetic attitude to everything that happens. Literature acquaints the child with various manifestations of life, with labor activity, nature, developing social experience.

Remember that by reading, the child becomes a fully developed personality.

From the first books, the youngest learn about the rules of courtesy and the basics of health, as well as the simplest rules of life. Toddlers are often read short folklore works, unpretentious poems, in which folk wisdom is presented in forms accessible to crumbs.

Listening to reading or reading independently, the child:

  • gets acquainted with the past, present and even possible future of the world
  • learns to think, analyze, be creative about everything
  • develops speech, striving to make it correct, beautiful, rich, clear, imaginative, understandable to everyone
  • forms spiritual qualities: compassion, mercy, sympathy, joy in the success of others, kindness, courage
  • gets acquainted with art, learns to feel and understand beauty
  • forms a positive attitude towards life
  • develops a correct perception of nature, a thrifty attitude towards all living things
  • learns to appreciate the work of others and be hardworking.

Reading circle for children of different ages

Books should correspond to the age, interests, views of the world, requests, spiritual impulses of the child . It’s good if the book contains the answer to a question that is still maturing in the mind of a child. Based on this, the reading circle of children of different ages is the circle of those literary works that children read or listen to, adequately perceiving them.

What literature is interesting for children of different ages

From 2 to 5 years old. Preschoolers clearly prefer poetry to prose. They are very fond of rhythmic works – poems, songs, ditties, rhyming nursery rhymes, counting rhymes. Many children’s works, including folklore, are dynamic and expressive, which is why children of primary preschool age perceive and memorize them so easily. Such works are best suited to the needs of babies, because they are a successful combination of rhythm, intonation, melody and movement. And kids love colorful books.

From 6 to 8 years old. The reading circle of preschool children is rapidly changing. Children after 5-6 years are no longer interested in nursery rhymes or short poems. At this age, children develop and consolidate reading skills. Children of senior preschool and primary school age prefer more voluminous works with a complex plot and a large number of characters in order to read them (or listen) and wait for continuation. They may also be interested in all kinds of children’s encyclopedias, where information about the world is available.

From 9 to 13 years old. At this age, readers are interested in the history and life of historical figures (conquerors, scientists, travelers, heroes). They have an interest in moral and ethical issues, reflections on friendship, love, happiness.

From 14 to 18 years old. Readers have their own range of favorite topics and characters: boys have their own, girls have their own. It depends on inclinations, interests, talents, character traits, environment, etc.

We read and educate

By teaching a child to read and offering him interesting, informative books, we educate him.

By teaching a child to read and offering him interesting, informative books, we educate him.

In order to develop a love of reading in a child, psychologists recommend:

  1. Parents should show their positive example of people for whom reading is a pleasure. Quote writers, memorize, give examples from the literature, discuss what you read – and the children will see that without reading there is nowhere.
  2. Enroll your child in the library. Go there weekly. Let your child choose their own books and magazines.
  3. Visit bookstores. Build an interesting children’s library at home.
  4. Start a “Reader’s Diary”, which will reflect how many books, what and during what period they were read.
  5. Equip a reading nook at home: a comfortable desk, a bookshelf, toys in the form of fairy-tale characters, etc.
  6. Shop for inspiring books that are colorful and fun to keep kids excited to read more.
  7. Read books based on films with children and vice versa.
  8. Think of leisure activities related to reading: literary evenings, joint reading or theatrical performances based on works.
  9. Keep your child friendly with children who love to read.
  10. Solve crossword puzzles, charades, rebuses, interesting logic puzzles with children.
  11. Encourage children to read aloud, train reading technique, expressiveness.
  12. Discuss what you have read with your child.

It is good when the atmosphere of respect for the book reigns at home

“Council. Do not force your child to read from early childhood, expecting super results: this can completely discourage the desire to read. Better find ways to get him interested.”

Recommendations for buying children’s literature

When choosing a book, think: “What effect will it have on the child? What will he learn?

What kind of books will interest children?

  • Regardless of the child’s age, offer books that have stood the test of time—those we ourselves read as children. They will certainly charge the child with positive emotions, teach kindness, courage, honesty. Of course, the time in which we live also affects the selection of literature. This means that modern authors have worthy works that are suitable for reading to your children.
  • When choosing a book, think: “What effect will it have on the child? What new will he learn?
  • For preschool children, choose illustrated, thematic various books: about games and toys, nature, wildlife, relationships between people, family, rules of hygiene and behavior.
  • Students will be interested in historical and military topics, art, inventions, fantastic adventures, travel, etc.
  • Pay attention to the fact that the reading circle of children includes works with a humanistic orientation, affirming goodness, justice, equality, work, world peace, the value of life, health and happiness. After all, the main task of literature is to teach the child to comprehend what they read, analyze and draw conclusions. Reading should develop the mind and soul of the child.

Starting to learn English from scratch with Mondly

10 tips to motivate your children to learn English

Have you ever wondered how you can motivate your child to learn English? It is easier to teach English from scratch with children when they themselves want it.

After all, it is not enough for children just to say that English will help them in life, the whole world speaks it, or install an application, give them a smartphone and send them to learn English. They will not understand you or they will play games, and they will ignore the application that you downloaded to them. Children need a slightly different approach. We offer you ten tips on how you can guide, push, motivate your child to study English.

Motivate and learn basic English with children

  • Be enthusiastic and involved in your child’s learning

Be enthusiastic about language learning. If your child sees you reading, watching movies and speaking English, he will be inspired and imitate you. Actively involve yourself in learning English with your child, without expecting them to learn on their own. Encouragement and support for your child will boost their self-confidence and motivation.

  • Make learning fun and enjoyable

Learning a language should be fun and rewarding. Try to include an element of fun in your English learning activities. Naturally, children love to play in real and virtual life. And your child will be happy to play another interesting, exciting game with you, if you offer. Try card games (Memory), action games (Simon Says), board games (Snakes, Ladders). Use your child’s sense of competition as a motivator, for example, you can play games not only with your child, but also with his friends.

  • Start with your child’s interests

Think about your child’s personality, interests, and things he likes. Very active children may enjoy playing action games, quieter children may prefer word games or card games. If your child loves sports, they will love stories, vocabulary games about sports. Choose from a wide range of topics at Learn English Kids.

  • Let your child choose

Participation in the selection process is a great motivation. Let your child choose situations, subjects, etc. that he feels comfortable with in English. For example, you can encourage your child to read in English by choosing English books from the local library, bookstore, or online.

  • Assess your child’s mood

Try to find the right time to encourage your child to practice English. Your child should be receptive and alert, not tired and irritable during class. If you insist on learning English when the child is tired, then the effect will be minimal, and you can also put the child in a stressful situation, which will reflect badly on his desire to study English in the future. If, after starting classes, you notice that your child is not receptive, it is better to try later than to force him to continue.

  • Role play

Children love role play and use their imagination. Suggest some game situations. For example, you are in a toy store, a bus, a restaurant, etc., ask your child to take turns doing different functions (for example, serve customers in a store), help your child if he does not know or has forgotten a word. If he uses phrases in his native language, repeat what he said in English. Make the situation more meaningful by using real objects, such as toys for a toy store, chairs for a bus, a table for a restaurant. The more enthusiastically you play your part, the more motivated your child will be!

  • Praise your child for homework

Children are often reluctant to do homework or attend school. Establish a regular homework schedule that allows your child to choose when and where they study. Praise your child for all the efforts he makes, rather than criticizing him. This will help your child become more confident. A child who likes English will want to study on his own.

  • Use apps and online resources

Even the most reluctant learners will enjoy playing the game on the tablet and learning English with it. We adults may think of the next English learning app as a learning tool, but children treat everything as a game.

  • Share experiences

Encourage older children to help younger siblings practice English. Why not let your child choose an English language movie and invite friends or family to watch it? Arrange the chairs to turn your living room into a movie theater! Make tickets in English. This will give you an opportunity to practice your writing. Many children enjoy performing. Invite them to put on a play or puppet show, or sing some English songs for the family.

  • Find ways for your child to communicate

If your child has an English-speaking friend or acquaintance with whom he will communicate in English, this will further spur him to learn the language. After all, now he has a completely weighty, real and understandable reason. If you do not have foreign acquaintances, you can find classes for children in your city where your child can communicate in English with peers. We will help you with this. Green Country is the best choice for your little one. Here, in English courses, your child will be able to practice their skills and communicate with peers. Don’t wait another Monday, enroll your child in a course now. Learn English with children from scratch in a fun, interesting, productive way.

Desire to learn English

A child’s brain is like a sponge – it continuously absorbs information!

Just think how much information a child needs to hear in the first two years of his life! In the process of growing up, children begin to understand the meaning of words and apply them in the right context.

👉 Toddlers use motor areas of the brain, which helps them to absorb the second (or even third) language subconsciously (without even knowing it). These functions usually slow down at the age of 10-11 years.

That is why those babies who move to another country at a very young age learn the language much faster than their parents.

If anyone is worried about bringing their children to daycare, i would highly recommend kids r kids. Their teachers seem to have a low turn over rate and they truly take care of them. I’m able to watch my kids throughout the day with their camera system. The curriculum is detailed which allows them to be kids but at the same time developing them and preparing them for the future. great daycare/school.

    Business Response:

Thank you Ms. Zielonka for the great review! We love having your two little ones as part of our KRK family! 🤩🥰

Education lessons. How to develop a spirit of cooperation, responsiveness and self-confidence in a child, John Gray – LitRes

      * * *

With deepest love, I dedicate the book to my wife, Bonnie Grey.

If not for her wisdom and insight, I simply would not have been able to write Children from Heaven.

Her love, cheerfulness and light lit up my life and the life of our children with grace.

A year after my marriage, my daughter was born. Besides, I already had two wonderful stepdaughters. We named the newborn Lauren, Juliet was eight, and Shannon was almost twelve. My wife, Bonnie, had already had quite a lot of motherhood experience, but fatherhood was new to me. So, immediately being responsible for an infant, child and teenager is not an easy task. I have already had to conduct seminars with children of different ages more than once, so I knew very well how children relate to their parents. In addition, I have counseled thousands of adults and helped them solve problems that go back to childhood. To correct the shortcomings of their parents, I taught these people to heal old wounds and forgive insults. So when I became a father myself, I already had this unique and rich experience.

At first, at every step, I found myself mechanically imitating my parents. Some of their methods were good, others were less effective, and some were not good at all. Based on my own experience (what educational measures I inherited from my parents turned out to be ineffective), as well as on the experience of thousands of people with whom I happened to work, I gradually managed to develop new, more effective methods of education.

I still distinctly remember one of the first changes I made to the way I interacted with children. Once, when Shannon was arguing with her mother, Bonnie, I came down from the bedroom to help my wife. At some point, I got involved in the scandal and began to scream louder than both of them. After a couple of minutes, I seem to have won the argument. Shannon subsided, harboring resentment and indignation. And then I realized how much pain I caused my stepdaughter.

At that moment, I realized that I had made a mistake. My behavior had nothing to do with my upbringing. I acted exactly like my father did when he didn’t know what to do. In an effort to take control of the situation, I yelled and intimidated. Although I still did not understand what exactly needed to be done, I clearly saw that screams and threats were not a method. From that day on, I never allowed myself to yell at my children again. Over time, my wife and I have developed other, smarter ways to regain control over our daughters when they misbehave.

      Love is not everything

I am very grateful to my parents for the love and care that I really needed. However, despite all the love of my father and mother, their mistakes often hurt me. I became a good father precisely because healed these wounds. I know that they did everything they could, but they lacked the knowledge of what children really need. Parents make mistakes in raising their children, not because they don’t love them, but because they don’t know how to do it better.

The most important thing in upbringing is to love children and give them time and energy. However, although love is the most important thing, it is not everything. If parents do not understand the special needs of their child, they cannot fully give him what modern children need. It happens that parents generously give love to their child, but not in the way that would be most beneficial for his development.

Without understanding the needs of the child, parents are not able to give him what he needs.

On the other hand, many parents “wish” to spend more time with their children, but do not do so because they do not know what to do together, and it also happens that children simply reject their attempts to communicate. Very often, parents try to talk to the child, but the child just shuts down. These people really want to talk to their children but don’t know how.

Some parents don’t feel like yelling at their kids and punishing them, but they just don’t see an alternative. Since the conversations lead nowhere, the parents see no other way out than punishment and threats.

To abandon the old methods of education, it is necessary to replace them with new ones.

Talking is only useful when you know what the children need. To make the child want to talk to you, you need to learn to listen to . For a child to want to cooperate, you need to learn to ask him for it. You need to learn how to give children enough freedom, while maintaining control. Having learned all this, parents can abandon outdated parenting methods.

      Looking for a better way

After consulting thousands of people and teaching hundreds of thousands, it became clear to me which educational methods did not work, but I still did not know more effective solutions. To become a good father, it is not enough just to give up controlling children with shouting and punishment. To eliminate such a control as the threat of punishment, it was necessary to find other equally effective methods. Working on the philosophy of the “children are from heaven” approach and on five methods of positive parenting, I gradually found an effective alternative to traditional methods of parenting.

To become a good parent, it is not enough just to give up ineffective methods.

It took me over thirty years to develop the positive parenting methods presented in Children Are from Heaven. In the course of sixteen years of counseling adults who suffered from problems in their personal lives and relationships with others, I had an excellent opportunity to find out which of the methods applied to them in childhood did not give positive results. Then, during the next fourteen years of fatherhood, I developed and put into practice other, new methods of parenting. The effectiveness of these methods was confirmed not only by the example of my children, but also in thousands of other families.

Margo, a single mother, began using my methods with her eldest teenage daughter, Sarah, who had not only stopped talking to her mother but was seriously preparing to run away from home. As soon as Margo corrected her communication style with her daughter, they managed to resolve all the problems. Literally in a day, Sarah became a completely different person. Before Margot signed up for the Children Are From Heaven seminar, Sarah only frowned at any attempts her mother made to talk to her. A few months after the seminar, Sarah was already enthusiastically talking to Margot about her life, listening to advice and willingly cooperating with her mother.

Tim and Carol had problems with their three-year-old son Calvin. He incessantly rolled up scenes, scandalized and firmly stood his ground in any situation. When parents gave up hitting and started using timeouts instead, Kelvin gradually gave up on tantrums. Tim and Carol were able to regain control of the family situation by understanding how to meet the needs of their baby.

Philip is a successful businessman. After the “Children from Heaven” seminar, this man realized how much his children needed him, and understood how he could participate in their upbringing. Philip was brought up mainly by his mother, and he did not understand how necessary a father was for a child. After learning what his children needed and what he could do for them, Philip began to willingly spend more time with them. He is very grateful for this knowledge: thanks to it, he was able to give more happiness not only to his children, but also to himself. Previously, he lacked the joys of fatherhood, which he did not even suspect.

Many men who are not involved in raising children do not even realize what joys they are depriving themselves of.

Tom and Karen have always argued about how to raise their children. The fact is that they themselves were brought up differently, and now they could not agree on how to behave with children. After the “Children are from Heaven” seminar, they finally found a common approach to parenting. As a result, children benefited not only because their parents began to use more effective methods, but also because they began to fight less.

There is no end to the stories of families who have benefited from the ideas and methods offered by the children from heaven approach. If you have any doubts about the effectiveness of my approach, just try it in practice and see what the results are. The effectiveness of these methods is easy to prove: once you start using them, they immediately bear fruit.

It is easy to prove the effectiveness of the methods I propose: start using them and you will immediately get results.

All the assumptions of the “children are from heaven” approach are just reasonable. Reading this book , you will often find confirmation of your own guesses. In other cases, the new ideas presented here will help you see your own mistakes and answer many questions. While Children Are From Heaven won’t provide solutions to every problem you may have, it does provide a general approach to solving them. You will still solve problems yourself, but now you can apply a new, more effective approach. This new path to understanding with children will help you find a unique way out of every situation – day after day.

“Children are from Heaven” is a broad, practical parenting philosophy applicable to children of all ages. These new ideas and methods are suitable for use with infants, toddlers, children and adolescents. Even if until now you have brought up your teenager differently, start applying our methods, and the child will meet you halfway.

“Children are from Heaven” is a broad, practical parenting philosophy applicable to children of all ages.

I have seen this firsthand: my two stepdaughters responded immediately to the new approach. Although they had previously been raised using some of the old methods like punishment and yelling, the new approach worked immediately. With the help of these new methods, it is possible to encourage the cooperation of all children – regardless of age and educational approaches used before.

These techniques work even with children who grew up in an environment of neglect, mistreatment, and cruel punishment. It is clear that a neglected and mistreated child may have some special behavioral problems, but our new approach helps to effectively address them. Children are extraordinarily malleable and change easily when given the necessary love and support.

      Crisis of education

The free world of the West is going through a crisis of education. Every day the media brings us more news about child and teenage delinquency, low self-esteem, attention deficit disorder, drug addiction, early pregnancy and suicide. Almost all parents now doubt both the old methods of education and the new ones. It seems that no approach is right, and meanwhile the problems of our children are getting worse.

Some parents believe that the root of the problem is permissiveness and that we give too much to our children. Others think it’s all about outdated parenting methods like yelling and punching. Still others are inclined to think that new problems are generated by negative changes in society itself.

Many believe that the abundance of advertising, violence and sex on television is to blame. Of course, society and the impact it has on children is very relevant to this issue, and some problems could be solved with appropriate changes in the law, but it is much more important to pay attention to what is happening at home. Children’s problems start at home and can be solved there. Change in society is an important factor, but parents must understand that it is up to them whether their children will grow up strong, self-confident, capable of cooperation and compassion.

Children’s problems start at home and can be solved there.

To keep up with the changes taking place in society, parents need to change their approach to parenting. Over the past two hundred years, society has made a historic leap, providing all citizens with unprecedented personal freedoms and human rights. But, despite the fact that modern Western society is based on the principles of freedom and human rights, parents still use educational methods inherited from the dark Middle Ages.

In order to raise healthy, cooperative children, parents need to modernize their parenting methods. Business leaders know that if they want to remain competitive in the marketplace, they need to constantly change and improve. Likewise, if parents want their children to feel confident in the free world, they must be educated in the most effective and modern ways.

Education based on love, not fear

In the past, children were controlled by pressure, fear and guilt. To motivate good behavior, children were taught that they were vicious and could only earn good treatment by being obedient. The strongest deterrent for the child was the fear of losing the love and favor of the parents. If this was not enough, adults resorted to harsher punishments, which were supposed to arouse even greater fear in the child and break his will. A naughty child was often called masterful . Ironically, from the point of view of positive parenting, the foundation for developing a spirit of cooperation, self-confidence and responsiveness in a child is precisely the education of a strong will.

To instill a spirit of cooperation, self-confidence and responsiveness in a child, it is necessary to develop his will, and not break it.

In the past, the purpose of education was to instill obedience in children. Positive parenting aims to raise a strong-willed yet cooperative child. To achieve cooperation, there is no need to break his will. Children are from heaven. When their hearts are open and their wills are fueled, they are more cooperative.

The goal of positive parenting is to raise a strong-willed but cooperative child.

The methods of the past were aimed at raising obedient children. The positive approach is aimed at raising responsive children who obey the rules not out of fear, but act spontaneously and make decisions according to the dictates of the heart. And if such children do not lie, it is not because it is against the rules, but because they are honest and fair. Morality for them is not something imposed from the outside – it comes from within, brought up by cooperation with their parents.

Instead of developing obedience in children, positive parenting seeks to develop compassion in them.

The educational methods of the past focused on teaching children to obey. Positive parenting seeks to create self-confident leaders who are able to create their own destiny, and not just follow in the footsteps of those who lead the way. Self-confident children clearly understand who they are and what they want to achieve.

Self-confident children are less likely to succumb to peer pressure and feel no need to rebel.

Strong children are less susceptible to peer pressure and do not feel the need to rebel in order to assert themselves. They think with their own heads, but at the same time remain open to help and support from their parents. When such children grow up, they are not constrained by the prejudices of others. They follow their inner compass and make decisions on their own.

Children today are not the same as they used to be

The world around us has changed and so have the children. Fear-based parenting no longer has the right effect on them. The old, bullying-based methods actually only weaken parental controls. The threat of punishment only turns children against their parents and encourages them to rebel. A scream or a blow no longer helps to establish control over the child, but simply kills in him the desire to listen and cooperate. Parents strive for more meaningful communication with their children in order to prepare them for the stressful modern life, but, unfortunately, they still use outdated parenting methods.

The threat of punishment only turns children against their parents and encourages them to rebel.

I remember my father making the same mistake. He always tried to control his six sons and daughter with the threat of punishment. He was a military man and did not know any other way to influence others. In a way, he treated us like soldiers. When we resisted his will, he regained control of the situation by threatening punishment. This method of upbringing was to a certain extent effective when his generation was growing up, but these means no longer worked on my peers, much less they do not work on modern children.

If the threat did not persuade us to obedience, the father resorted to a more weighty threat. He said:

      – If you talk to me like that, I won’t let you go outside for a week.

      If I persisted, he threatened:

      – Stop immediately, otherwise you will stay at home for two weeks.

If that didn’t enlighten me, my father concluded:

      – Well, you’ll stay at home for a whole month. Now march to your room!

The aggravation of punishment does not have the desired effect on the child, but only increases his resentment. For a whole month I thought about how unfair my father was. Instead of awakening in me the desire for cooperation, he only repelled me with his actions. It would be much better if he just said:

      – Since you didn’t respect what I said, I want you to take a ten minute timeout.

In the old days, punishment was used to break a willful child. This method may have been successful in getting children to obey in the past, but not now. Today, children are much more sophisticated and intelligent than before. They understand when parents behave dishonestly and abusively, and are not inclined to tolerate it. They get angry and rebel. And most importantly, punishments and threats block the channels of communication between you. Instead of helping to solve the problem, parents become part of it.

When you use punishment, you become enemies for your child to hide from, rather than parents to help you.

When a parent yells at a child, it only dulls the child’s ability to listen. To succeed academically, and more importantly, to compete in the free market and build strong relationships with others, the modern person needs to fully master the art of communication. The best way a child learns this art is when he listens to his parents, and his parents listen to him.

Children listen to their parents when parents listen to their children.

What happens when you play music too loudly? You just stop hearing it. The same thing happens when parents constantly demand something from their children. When modern parents yell at their children, as their fathers and mothers did, it has a completely different effect. The modern child simply turns off, and adults lose control over him.

      Refuse punishment

In the past, many societies lived under the yoke and control of strong, hardline dictators, but this is not the case today. Now peoples are not inclined to support injustice and violation of human rights, but are ready to respond to such a policy with defiance. People have repeatedly sacrificed their lives in the name of the triumph of the principles of democracy.

Likewise, today’s children are not inclined to put up with the threat of punishment. They are rising. Today the child feels more acutely that any punishment is unfair. Any punishment turns into resistance, indignation, rejection and rebellion. Children today, at an earlier age, begin to reject adult values and rebel against parental control. Children push away and reject the support of their elders, which is vital for their development, much earlier than they reach psychological maturity and can do without the help of their parents. They yearn to be free of parental care when they still need that care for their healthy development.

Children reject parental help when they are not yet psychologically ready for it.

Many parents realize that the old punishment-based methods don’t work, but they don’t know any other way. They refrain from punishment, but this also does not bring the desired results. Permissive parenting does not give children the parental control they need. Give up an inch of your influence and they take a mile away from you. Children quickly learn to use their freedom to manipulate adults.

If a child is allowed to use strong negative feelings and tantrums to achieve his goals, he quickly takes control of his parents. If the child controls the parents, he himself becomes uncontrollable. To a large extent, this gives rise to the same problems in children as outdated methods of education.

If a child controls his parents, he himself becomes uncontrollable.

Whether a child grows up in an atmosphere of fear or in an atmosphere of permissiveness, if he does not feel that his parents are in control of the situation, then he responds with rebellion and denial to any attempts by elders to take the reins of power into their own hands. Away from the support of parents, the child develops inferiorly. By using the positive parenting methods outlined in Children Are From Heaven, parents can give their children the freedom and initiative they need to develop a strong and healthy sense of self.

      The results of fear-based parenting

The old fear-based methods of controlling children through intimidation, criticism, disapproval and punishment have not lost their force, but have become inappropriate. Children today are more sensitive than ever before. They are much more capable than before, but at the same time, such outdated methods of education as shouting, slapping, punishment, imprisonment, disapproval, humiliation and reproaches have a much stronger negative effect on them. When children were more thick-skinned, these methods were useful, but now they are outdated and simply contraindicated.

In the past, hitting made children fear authority and follow rules. Now they entail diametrically opposite results. Sow violence, reap violence. This is a symptom of increased sensitivity. Children today are more creative than ever before, but they are also more sensitive to external conditions.

As children become more sensitive, they are more likely to respond with violence to violence.

Children today learn best to respect others not through fear, but through imitation. Children are always programmed to imitate their parents. Their minds take pictures and write them down so they can repeat and imitate everything you say and do. Imitation and cooperation for children are the most important learning mechanisms. If parents show respect for others, children gradually learn to respect others. If parents know how to behave calmly and good-naturedly with a scandalous baby, he also gradually learns to remain calm and good-natured when strong emotions overwhelm him. To remain calm, kind, and respectful, parents need to know exactly what to do when a child is out of control.

To remain calm, kind and respectful, parents need to know what to do when a child is out of control.

If you hit your child to regain control, the child learns to be aggressive when he loses control. More than once I had to witness how a mother gives her son a slap in the face with the words: “Don’t you dare beat your brother!” She wants him to feel the same as his brother, but beating here is an absolutely vicious method. The blow received from the mother only reinforces the baby’s tendency to fight and behave aggressively.

Subsequently, not getting what he wants, he automatically vents his anger through either direct or covert aggression. Although in the past spanking and hitting had the right effect on children, now they only lead to a response. Intimidation-based parenting practices limit the natural development of children; at the same time, the fulfillment of parental duty brings us less joy and takes more time.

Not enough time to bring up

Today, parents have less time than ever before to bring up their children. Therefore, we need to know what is especially important for our children. This knowledge not only helps to make the most efficient use of free minutes, but also encourages finding additional time to communicate with children. Clearly aware of the needs of the child, parents willingly devote more time to him.

In conditions of great stress and tension, adults most often limit themselves either to what they have to do for children, or to what they can do. Women usually go out of their way to do everything they have to do, while men mostly focus on what they can. If the father does not know what he can do for the children, he often does nothing at all. If the mother does not know what is most important for the child, she usually puts something else first. When parents find out exactly what their children need, they care less about earning more money and buying things, and try to devote more time to family joys. Realizing what they can and should do, parents are looking for opportunities to spend more time with their children.

      Modernize parenting methods

Reading Children Are from Heaven will teach you how to modernize your parenting methods in practice. You will discover not only which approaches are ineffective, but also what to replace them with. Learn new ways to get kids to cooperate and lead without being intimidating.

Modern children do not need to be motivated by fear and punishment. They have an innate ability to distinguish good from bad – you just need to give them the opportunity to develop this ability. Instead of motivating them to proper behavior through punishment and intimidation, encouragement can be used, as well as their natural healthy desire to please their parents.

The first eight chapters of Children Are From Heaven teach you how to use a variety of positive parenting techniques to improve communication with your children, deepen your cooperation with them, and encourage them to reach their full potential. In the last six chapters, you’ll learn how to communicate five essential principles that every child should hear over and over again.

      These five positive principles are:

      1. It is okay to be different.

      2. It’s okay to make mistakes.

      3. It is normal to show negative emotions.

      4. Wanting more is normal.

      5. Expressing your disagreement is fine, but remember that mom and dad are in charge.

These five principles will give your children the freedom to develop the abilities God has given them. If these principles are correctly applied using positive parenting methods, your child will develop the qualities necessary for success in life. Here are some of these qualities: the ability to forgive others and yourself, the ability to share, the ability to wait for the fulfillment of your desires, self-esteem, patience, perseverance, respect for others and yourself, a spirit of cooperation, responsiveness, self-confidence, the ability to be happy. The new approach I propose, combined with your love and care, will give children the opportunity to reach their full potential at every stage of growing up.

Armed with new ideas, you’ll gain the self-confidence you need to raise children, and you’ll be able to sleep well at night. When you have any questions and are confused, these ideas will be a generous source for you to return to again and again for support and remember what your children need and what you can give them.

First of all, remember that the children of really did come from heaven. They already have everything they need to grow. You, as parents, should only contribute to this process in every possible way. By putting into practice the five principles and five methods of positive parenting, you will not only gain the confidence that you are doing the right thing, but also realize that your help enables children to reach their full potential.

      Children with ONR

Children’s Medical Center of Neurology and Pediatrics offers you a service – treatment of children with ONR. Our experts have many years of experience and excellent reviews!

General speech underdevelopment (OHP) is one of the most common speech pathologies in preschool children. It is characterized by persistent disorders in the development of almost all speech functions. Understanding the speech of others suffers. However, the child at the same time has a developed intellect, corresponding to age, and does not have hearing problems. Accurately diagnosing ONR is possible for children aged 3-5 years, having undergone a complete speech therapy examination.

Quite often, against the background of a general underdevelopment of speech, a child has a number of concomitant disorders in the mental, cognitive, and motor spheres. He is silent, does not ask questions, is not interested in books or toys, does not seek communication and games with peers, has difficulty remembering and concentrating.

      Symptoms of children with ONR

The symptoms of children with ONR are very diverse. All children develop at their own, individual pace. The degree of severity and methods of correction of children with ONR can only be identified by a specialist.

If your child has the following manifestations – without delay, consult a qualified speech therapist:

      • the child’s speech is illegible, incomprehensible to any of the adults;
      • the child understands everything, but cannot correctly express and convey his thoughts;
      • speech was not formed by 4-5 years;
      • inconsistency of speech, the child does not correctly use and agree on word forms, even well-known and the simplest words.

      Classification in children OHP

The manifestation in children with ONR is usually classified depending on the severity of the existing disease:

      Level 1 – coherent speech is completely absent. For communication, the child uses individual sounds or onomatopoeia, actively using gestures, facial expressions;

      Level 2 – there are phrases and phrases of 2-3 words, but speech is weak, vocabulary is poor;

Level 3 – speech consists of monosyllabic sentences, the grammatical structure of speech is not stable. There are problems with the sound, as well as the semantic side of speech.

Level 4 – speech is quite developed, vocabulary is not poorly formed. However, the skill of coherent speech is still poorly developed. It is difficult for a child to learn new material, the cognitive side and logical thinking are not sufficiently developed.

      Causes of OHP in children

There are a lot of reasons that can negatively affect the development of a child’s speech. However, most of them are the result of an unfavorable course of pregnancy or childbirth:

      • infectious diseases of the mother;
      • toxicosis;
      • stress during pregnancy;
      • alcohol and smoking abuse;
      • birth injuries;
      • maternal use of dangerous drugs;
      • pathologies of the nervous system;
      • fetal hypoxia;
      • Rhesus conflict between mother and fetus.

      HISTORY

Archaeologists know that people have lived in the land now called Ohio for at least 13,000 years, thanks to discoveries such as some Ice Age ground sloth bones marked by human tools at least that old. Many thousands of years after these ancient hunters lived, other Native American tribes including the Erie, Kickapoo, and Shawnee lived on the land.

The first known non-native person to reach the area was French explorer Robert de La Salle, who arrived around 1670. French fur traders followed and began to settle in the area, but in 1763 the British claimed the area after winning the French and Indian War. After the Revolutionary War ended in 1783, Ohio became part of the American territory.

Ohio became the 17th state in 1803. The Ohio and Lake Erie Canal opened almost 30 years later and connected Lake Erie with the Ohio River. That made it much less expensive to ship goods from the east, so more settlers started arriving in the state.

Most people from Ohio fought for the Union during the Civil War. Those who were against the war and refused to fight were called Copperheads because they were thought of as poisonous snakes lying in wait to attack in favor of the south.

      WHY’S IT CALLED THAT?

No one is sure where Ohio’s name came from, but some experts think it comes from the Iroquois word oyo, which means roughly “the great river,” and refers to the Ohio River (the river is formed in present-day Pennsylvania, where the Iroquois lived. )

The Buckeye State gets its nickname from a common tree in Ohio called a buckeye. Its nuts look like a deer’s eye—that is, a buck’s eye.

Ohio is bordered by Michigan and Lake Erie in the north, Pennsylvania and West Virginia in the east, Kentucky and West Virginia in the south, and Indiana in the west. The state is mostly made up of plains but it can be divided into five geographical regions.

The northern Great Lakes Plains region is a fertile lowland, while the Lake Erie Shoreline has sandy and clay beaches, tall clay bluffs, and sand dunes that run along the shore.

The Till Plains is a large area in the west and center of the state that’s also very fertile. In fact so much corn grows there that it’s considered the beginning of America’s corn belt. The lowland region contains the highest point in Ohio—Campbell Hill—but it’s not even high enough to be considered a mountain.

The Appalachian Plateau is Ohio’s largest region and covers almost the entire eastern half of the state. It’s also the state’s most rugged area, with high hills and plunging valleys.

The Bluegrass Region is a small area in the south, with steep cliffs and deep valleys. Sinkholes and caves dot the land. You can also see the five-mile Serpent Mound Meteor Crater, which scientists think could have been formed by a meteor crash millions of years ago.

Black bears, coyotes, bobcats, American beavers, and white-tailed deer (the state animal) are some of Ohio’s most common mammals. Ring-necked pheasants, wild turkeys, great horned owls, red-headed woodpeckers, blue jays, and American robins are among the approximately 350 species of birds spotted throughout the state.

Ohio’s reptiles include the black racer, a non-venomous snake that’s also the state reptile. Other reptiles here include Lake Erie water snakes and woodland box turtles. Amphibians like western chorus frogs, red-spotted newts, and American toads all hop through the state.

Beech, aspen, pawpaw, boxelder, American elm, and slippery elm are a few common trees that grow in Ohio. The state is also filled with wildflowers, including multiple types of phlox, trillium, aster, and wild lily.

      NATURAL RESOURCES

Besides Ohio’s fertile soil, the state is also known for coal, natural gas, and rock salt called halite. Mined from beneath Lake Erie, the state produces about five million tons of the salt a year.

      FUN STUFF

—Pawpaw is an edible tree fruit that grows in Ohio and has its own festival every year.

        Roller Coaster Fan’s Paradise

Cedar Point Park is pure heaven for roller coaster enthusiasts! There is an incredible variety of coasters, most of them very high and very fast, and as result, super thrilling. We visited it during one of Halloween Nights, so the wait in the lines was no bad. The Halloween ambiance and decoration was really well done. Millennium Force was my favorite coaster, incredibly intense and fast. Next to it was Valravn (a dive coaster) and GateKeeper (a spectacular winged-coaster). Unfortunately, you could not ride the legendary Top Thrill Dragster, which was closed and will be removed. Still, Cedar Point is a must-see amusement park for every thrill ride fan.

        A wonderful foodie destination

Busted on a Monday, a number of vendors were closed, but it was still a fun “foodie” experience.
Found a delicious artichoke and garlic hummus, a fresh made whole grain bread that was moist and had great texture, and our personal favorite- authentic Lebanon bologna. The array of beautiful pastries was impressive.
A definite must when in Cleveland.

        Conservatory Aglow 2022

My adult daughter and I had a delightful evening taking in the varied exterior holiday light displays and the lovely illuminated exterior conservatory. Regrettably the off and on rain prohibited us from trying the evening’s food truck and other outside vendors, but we were able to enjoy some light fare from the inside Garden Cafe. While eating we were entertained with live holiday piano and choir selections which we followed by a stroll through the holiday stocked gift shop. The lighted biomes and inside holiday bloom areas were well thought out and provided some festive selfie opportunities. We even discovered some plants to consider grouping with our own home poinsettia plants. Would encourage visiting the conservatory website to purchase tickets in advance, planning the best evening to visit, and what displays not to miss. Note that admission is a little pricey and tickets are non refundable. Parking is free and plentiful. Definitely could become an annual holiday tradition.

Finally the Great American Ball Park Experience

First time to a Reds game in 30 years and first time at new park that replaced Riverfront Stadium. i will always have a fond remembrance and love what Riverfront was, however this park also has some nice features. Love the Riverboat theme in outfield, though it’s a shame you have to walk around back of it to see the Ohio River to any degree. Can only see a bit from indoors. Some parks ignoring the Riverboat do have a nicer view in outfield. Overall it’s a nice park, though i also noted as others have that the fans here are a bit quiet overall, that being said, the team Cincinnati has assembled on a relative low budget needs improvement. I also agree that the circus atmosphere and not just here but other parks has gotten distracting and noisy and for actual baseball fans has become a detraction to going to a live game versus on tv. Good Seats behind the Reds dugout though overall, and nice food selection though takes some walking as the food area behind home is like a double row and food areas are pretty spread out. Overall though a very nice park and was excited to be here.

        Unique Experience!

This is definitely a must do experience if you are in the area of Cleveland, Ohio. We have always watched the movie Christmas Story House; but wanted to see the actual property. We were super excited to be able to go and see the house in person. Definitely worth the trip, great price to go and do it, great muesuem/everything that goes along with it. Loved it!

        Huge Shopping Area

It seems every store is here. It’s a walking mall but there are loads more stores in the area. If you can’t find what you are looking for here you don’t need it.

Holiday lights – Get their early

Christmas lights. The zoo is beautifully decorated for the holiday season. Don’t expect to see many animals if you go in December. We did see the elephants inside the building and a few others. The penguins are not available for viewing. Highly suggest getting there early – 3:30 to 4pm and buy your tickets on line. The crowds are insane by 6pm. The traffic is for miles.

Worth the visit. Stayed in town close to everything.

Rained the entire limiting our ability to get out and enjoy nature. Did not stop us from visiting the breweries in the area. Shopping at the antique malls. Very beautiful area and will return

        World class must see museum

The Toledo Museum of Art is clearly one of the most underappreciated centers in United States. What is immediately struck by the gorgeous architecture and size of the main building. What becomes even more startling is the astonishing quality of the exhibits. On top of all of that the whole experience is Free. This is a must see attraction for anyone coming within 50 miles of this attraction.

        A Cincinnati Must Do

Every time we are in Cincinnati, we always have to make a stop at Jungle Jim’s. If it’s a food item and you can’t find it at Jungle Jim’s, you don’t need it. We spent close to 2 hours in the store. There is just so much to see. They have every kind of International food you can imagine, as well as a huge cheese, olive, produce, and wine selection. They also have a huge selection of baked goods. If you’re in Cincinnati, go!!!

        Great Christmas lights display

Lights before Christmas are a main attraction of the Toledo Zoo in winter. The Zoo does a great job with preparing the lights in fall and everytime there’s something new to experience. By far the best holiday displays in an Ohio zoo, if not the whole country.

A father from the US state of Ohio wants to take the child away from a Kaliningrad woman

Maria* from Kaliningrad with 2-year-old Maksimka* are literally locked up in our region. There are serious fears that as soon as they cross the border – they go to Poland or by train to Lithuania – Masha’s child will be taken away, and she herself will be sent to prison. The boy’s father, US citizen John Brown*, posted an announcement about his son allegedly missing from his home in Ohio on a special state website on the Internet, this information gets to the police, then to the FBI and Interpol. The young woman does not intend to give away her son, she will fight, so for now she asked not to give her real name. nine0003 Well cared for
Four years ago, 20-year-old Masha met John, a 30-year-old businessman from a small town in Ohio, while working there on a student Work and Travel program.
      – I didn’t have serious plans, but John courted persistently, – says the girl. – Every morning – baskets of roses. When she flew home, he drove 12 hours to the New York airport to say goodbye.
Cavalier continued to seek Maria’s favor and after her return to Kaliningrad – sometimes telephone conversations lasted for 10 hours (!), He sent flowers every week. In the summer he persuaded the girl to come to America again, paid for the air ticket. nine0003 – We decided to get married, I moved in with him, but after a while I realized: I have no friends, it’s hard to find a good job, – Masha recalls. – Yes, and my parents were worried, so I wanted to return.
In September, the girl flew home and realized that she was pregnant. John was delighted with the news: he asked to return to America as soon as possible to give birth there. Masha thought for a long time, and as a result, the visa was ready only a month after the birth.
In the registry office of Kaliningrad, Maksimka was given a birth certificate – John sent papers from the USA acknowledging paternity. The boy was issued a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation. The US Embassy in Moscow issued a birth certificate for a US citizen born abroad, an American passport. nine0003 – I heard that until the age of 18 a child can have two citizenships – Russia and the United States, then choose which country he wants to remain a citizen of, – Maria said. – Some Russian women specifically give birth in America so that the child can apply for a passport.
      Quarrels over diapers
Masha and six-month-old Maksimka were going to go to Ohio in October 2008. But the baby’s temperature rose, in the children’s regional hospital they diagnosed him with a congenital malformation of the kidney, it must be urgently removed so that the inflammation does not spread to the second one. The woman until the last doubted whether it was worth going overseas, but she had to: in America, medicine is an order of magnitude better. nine0003 – I took my son out on an American passport, – says Masha. – After the arrival, scandals began – the son was “lost” in time, he cried at night. And John was annoyed that I could not calm the child.
The “American” attitude towards children was shocking. Dad could put a baby with a temperature on the floor with an open balcony (and this is in October!) So that he learned to crawl. He demanded to buy cheap diapers.
      – My son is irritated by other diapers, but John said that everyone here raises children in diapers for $ 5, – Masha recalls. nine0003 Contact the authorities for help
After arriving in the US, Maxim’s temperature rose again, he and his mother were admitted to the hospital, and the diagnosis was confirmed: an urgent need to remove a kidney. The operation cost $ 150,000 to avoid paying them, John needed to get medical insurance for his son, but he was in no hurry to do it.
      – I persuaded him, and cried, and threatened – all to no avail. He said that I was an alarmist, but he didn’t have time, a lot of work, ”recalls Masha.
As a result, the young woman called the police and reported that she did not feel safe around John. She was immediately taken away from home, 800 dollars for tickets by urgent transfer was sent by her mother. However, the boy’s documents became a snag – John had Maxim’s American passport, he took it away as soon as Masha and her son set foot on US soil. However, they still would not be released from the country without the consent of the second parent. nine0003 – I didn’t say anything to John about Maxim’s Russian passport – as I felt, – says Masha. – The document was without a single stamp, without an American visa. Only miraculously we managed to pass the border control.
They spent only two weeks in America, returned back in November, and at the end of the month the baby had an operation in the children’s regional hospital. Only after that, the young mother, grandparents were able to breathe easy – their boy was no longer in danger. Now Maksimka is 2 years old, he is cute, smiling. Nothing reminds that a year and a half ago the child was between life and death. nine0003 He didn’t need his son at all.
John found out about Masha’s flight the same day she left.
      – He began to constantly call, at first he threatened, then he persuaded. He claimed that he realized his mistakes and promised to improve, but I realized that I did not want to be with him, – says the girl. – For a whole year he continued to send money for the maintenance of Maksimka. The last transfer I received from him was in the fall of 2009 — $125. Then he probably realized that we would not return to him, and the help ended. nine0003 Masha didn’t hear anything about the child’s father for half a year, life gradually got better – she lived with her parents, got a shift job in Kaliningrad. The queue to the kindergarten has not yet come, so she and her grandmother take turns sitting with the baby. And two months ago, like a bolt from the blue – a subpoena in the court of Ohio. John filed a lawsuit for his full custody of the child. The letter arrived three days before the meeting. Masha could not go to America – it was simply not possible to apply for a visa and buy a ticket. She called the court with a request to postpone the meeting, and they met her halfway. However, John did not stop. Not so long ago, he sent SMS to Masha’s acquaintances with a link to the site where Maksimka was put on the wanted list. nine0003 – In the lawsuit and on the website, John says that he does not know where we are, but he knows our address and phone number, and often calls me with threats, – says Masha. – He boasted that he turned to Congress to find justice for me, the case would be sent to the FBI and Interpol, but he never even asked about his son’s health!
Kaliningrad went to the lawyers, but the help is too expensive. Yes, and the local lawyers did not have experience in such cases.
      – According to American laws, Maxim is a US citizen, will he really be taken away from me? the young woman worries. – After all, in fact, John does not need a baby – he just wants to prove to me that he can do whatever he sees fit, that his country is stronger than ours, and we are nothing. He tells me about it on the phone. But I’m not going to give up and will fight for my son! nine0029

Boris Sheremetiev, First Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Kaliningrad Region:
      – A child can have two citizenships simultaneously – the Russian Federation and the United States. For our state, it is a priority that he is a citizen of Russia, his rights are protected by our laws. However, the situation with the court in the United States cannot be left to chance – the mother needs to contact (possibly via the Internet) the consular section of the Russian Embassy in the United States. Our diplomats will recommend family lawyers who could represent the child’s mother in US court. nine0003 Also, the children’s rights ombudsman in Kaliningrad can apply to the Russian Embassy in the United States to have consular officers represent the interests of the mother. They will also name a list of countries that have agreements with the United States. In these countries, the mother should not travel if the Ohio court decides in favor of the boy’s father.
