15 Fun Upcycling Ideas For Kids

While staying inside, it’s easy to run out of ideas to keep the kids occupied. That’s why we’ve come up with a range of fun upcycling craft ideas for the children to get stuck into! Unlike regular crafts, upcycling involved recycling things you most likely already own, and transforming them into beautiful decorations, toys, artworks and much more. This list of upcycling projects includes something for children of every age, and are guaranteed to add a little creative fun to your week!

Bowling Pin Tin Cans

Suitable for ages: 2+

You will need: 6 empty tins, paint (preferably acrylic), craft materials for decorating, and a tennis ball.

First, make sure your tins are completely clean and dry. Next, mix together paints and get creative! We recommend painting a flat colour all around the outside of the can, then filling in decorations afterwards. You could try adding googly eyes to make animal friends, or paint some bowling stripes on. Lastly, place the tins in a pyramid shape, and take turns seeing who can throw the ball and knock them all down!

Toilet Roll Flower Painting

Suitable for: all ages

You will need: Cardboard loo rolls, scissors, poster paints, and paper.

First take your toilet roll and, using your scissors, begin cutting straight lines around 1cm apart, about 2/3 of the way up the roll. The aim is to go for a ‘fringe’ effect. Once you have cut all around the roll, hold the roll cut side down, and lightly press on a surface so the flaps bend outwards slightly. Next, get the kids to choose their paints and pour them out onto a plate (Top tip: multicoloured paints next to each other works really well for this!). Now, the kids can dip their rolls into the paint, press them on to paper, and watch as ‘flowers’ appear on the page!

Bowl Painting

Suitable for ages: 4+

You will need: Old plain bowls, acrylic craft paint, and acrylic varnish.

With this activity, you can use any old plain bowls you have lying around. Simply use your acrylic paint and brushes and design your own bowls! Once complete, place into a cold oven, turn up to 220 degrees and bake for 40 minutes. When cool, apply one or two coats of acrylic varnish and there you have it- creative trinket bowls that will last for years to come!

Cereal Box Puzzle

Suitable for ages: 3-8

You will need: Empty cereal boxes/packaging, scissors, a pencil, and a pen.

First, cut out the part of the box you would like to use for your puzzle. Next, take your pencil and divide up your box into ‘puzzle pieces’. Don’t worry, you don’t need to bother with an interlocking design- simply squares will do, as long as they can be placed back together. Larger pieces will make an easier puzzle, and would be great for younger kids, while smaller pieces will make it a little more challenging. Now, cut along the lines you drew with your pencil and your puzzle is complete! Kids will have a fabulous time playing with puzzles of their favourite cereals!

Cardboard Box Fort

Suitable for: All Ages

When it comes to easy fun activities for kids, you can’t go wrong with a fort. Simply grab an old cardboard box, some blankets and let the kids’ imaginations do the rest! Fill it up with pillows and cushions, string some fairy lights around and invite all their toys to tea! You can even take the upcycling theme to the next level, and let the kids decorate the outside of their new fort- will it be castle, den, or perhaps a pirate ship?

Papier-Mâché Piñata

Suitable for ages: 5-10

You will need: A balloon, old newspapers, PVA glue, water, string, lots of sweets, and art supplies for decorating

First blow up your balloon and tie. Mix together 2 parts water to one part glue in a bowl. Now rip your newspaper into strips, and, dipping it into your glue mixture, begin to cover the balloon, making sure to leave a hole at the top to put the sweets in. Repeat this step until the whole balloon is covered, then repeat for another layer. Let dry overnight, pop the balloon inside and remove. Now the kids can paint their piñata and decorate to their heart’s content! When finished, fill it up with sweeties, attach the string and find somewhere to hang it up. Grab a stick or baseball bat, and the kids can all take it in turn to whack the piñata until the candy falls out!

Tin Can Walkie Talkie/Phone

Suitable for ages: 5+

You will need: Two empty tin cans, string, and a hammer and nail

This first step requires a grown up – take your cans and, using your hammer and nail, carefully punch a whole in the centre of each base. Next, tie a knot in the end of your string and thread it through the bottom. Do the same with the other end of the string and other tin, tie another knot and cut the excess string. Now pull the string very tight and hold the tin up to your mouth while your partner holds it to their ear – when you talk they should be able to hear you!

Top tip: If you can’t hear, try pulling the string extra tight – this helps to carry the sound vibrations better.

Egg Carton Bugs

Suitable for ages: 3+

You will need: An empty egg carton, googly eyes, paints and art materials.

First, cut your egg box up so that each egg holder is separated. Now, simply turn them over and paint whatever colour you like. There are so many animals you could make using this technique, but we think bugs work really well for all ages! You can add wings using cut up paper, and paint on designs to make bumblebees, lady birds, or beetles! This easy DIY is a great way to keep the kids busy for a couple of hours.

Sock Puppet Pals!

Suitable for ages: 4+

You will need: A sock, googly eyes or buttons, glue, and craft materials for decoration.

All you need to do for this project is take your sock of choice, pop it on to your hand, and glue on some googly eyes. Then get creative and add a mouth, hair, ears, a nose, or any other parts you can think of to make your sock pal come to life.

Yoghurt Container Planters

Suitable for ages: 3+

You will need: Empty yoghurt containers, acrylic paint, brushes and tape.

First, make sure your pots are clean and dry. Now, take your tape and lay small pieces in different areas of the pot. Try cutting out shapes of the tape or layering pieces on top of each other. Now, paint over the entire pot, using whatever designs you like! Once dry, peel off the tape to reveal your designs. You can now fill your new plant pots with soil and plant seeds, or transfer existing plants!

Multicoloured Suncatchers

Suitable for: All ages

You will need: Clear plastic yoghurt pot lids, paint, string, scissors, and PVA glue.

First, pick your paint colours and pour out onto a plate. Mix each colour with PVA glue, about 50% each. Now, taking it in turns for each colour, create swirls and star designs on the lids. Leave to dry, then use a pin or scissors to make a small hole in the top of the lid. Attach the string, and now you can hang your beautiful suncatchers up by the window and watch the colourful light stream through!

Glass Jar Lanterns

Suitable for ages: 4+

You will need: Empty jars, tealights, tissue paper, scissors and glue.

First, take your tissue paper and cut into shapes. Try geometric shapes for a stained-glass effect, or maybe wavy shapes for an underwater scene. Next, brush some glue on to your tissue paper and stick on to the outside of the jar. Continue this until you are happy with your design, and let dry. Now, pop a tealight inside and carefully light it. Turn off the lights and enjoy your fab design!

Bottle Bird Feeder

Suitable for ages: 3+

You will need: A large plastic bottle (labels removed), an old pencil, scissors, bird feed, and string.

First make two holes about 2/3 down the bottle, and insert the pencil so it is horizontal, and about 2cm is poking out of the bottle to make a bird perch. Add another hole a few inches above the perch for the bird to eat through, then two small holes at the top to hang the feeder. Fill with bird feed, thread some string through the holes and your feeder is ready to go!

Mini Crisp Packets

Suitable for ages: 3+ (requires supervision)

You will need: Empty crisp packets and an oven. Yes, that’s it!

Wipe down the inside of your crisp packets, and place them on a baking tray in an oven preheated to around 170 degrees. Kids will love watching as the crisp packets transform into little tiny versions of their previous form. These mini crisp packets make great ‘fake food’ for dolls, and can be used for further projects- why not glue them on to a magnet for a fun fridge addition, or pop them on a keyring!

Secret Memory Book Box

Suitable for ages: 8+

You will need: A hardback book, a pencil, a ruler, PVA Glue, a brush, water, a plastic container, and a box cutter.

To begin, mix together your glue mixture- approximately 60% glue, 40% water. Now tightly hold together the pages of the book, and apply your glue mixture around the edges of the pages. Let the glue to drip down between the pages so they stick together. Place a heavy object on top of the pages, and leave to dry. Once dry, measure out a rectangle on your top page, leaving approximately 2cm all the way round. And now for the dangerous part (we recommend an adult to assist here)- take your box cutter and ruler, and start to score your rectangle. Continue doing this until you reach the bottom of the book, and the entire thing is hollowed out. Take your glue mixture and apply a coat along the inside of the hollowed out pages. Leave to dry, and there you have it- a fabulous upcycled book box!

Victoria Zemlyanaya, mother of many children from the Urals, was able to return three children who were taken by force by guardianship, 03.

12.22 | e1.ru

At the last trial, Victoria managed to defend her daughter

Share

Viktoria Zemlyanoy, a mother of many children from Beloyarsky, will get her three children back.

Recall that on August 31, guardianship forcibly took away Victoria’s fifteen-year-old daughter and thirteen-year-old son, and on September 23, two more sons were removed from the family. In total, there are eight children in the Zemlyany family: three of their own and five more adopted.

Lawyer Nikita Sorokin told how during six meetings he tried to prove that the removal of children was illegal and unreasonable.

“They sought to secure the claim, which is a rare case,” he wrote on his page on VKontakte. – The girl Kira was left in the family and was not allowed to withdraw to a boarding school. The decision of the Beloyarsky District Court is to partially satisfy Zemlyanoy’s claim. As soon as the court decision comes into force, three children will return home to their mother, and the school principal and the head of the department will have to report to the court on the work done to eliminate violations. I congratulate the Earthly family on the victory and the return of children to the family!

Victoria added that she had been waiting for this decision for three months: “Thanks to you — wonderful people, Nikita Sorokin, a lawyer, a judge authorized for the Russian Federation, journalists and the media, my beloved girls, friends, psychologists, foster mothers — I had the strength to endure this ordeal”.

It all started with the fact that one of Victoria’s daughters herself applied for custody – probably because of resentment towards her parents. The children have already begun to look for a new family, some of the children refused to return to their foster mother (this became known during the trial). We published a heartbreaking video: a thirteen-year-old child resisted and did not want to leave home. The case was taken up by the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin.

And the cane is not the same. A visually impaired woman from Krasnoyarsk who lost her cane at the Krasnoyarsk airport appealed to the prosecutor’s office

All news allowed to bring food to school from home. We are not talking about cans of borscht or mushroom stew. A woman would just like to give sandwiches, pies and vegetable cuts to her son and daughter. In her opinion, such food can simply lie in the briefcase until the big break and it does not need to be heated. However, the director of the educational institution forbids this.

11-year-old Anya and 7-year-old Fedya study at gymnasium No. 6 on Vavilov Street and eat almost nothing in the school cafeteria. According to the mother, at home they are unpretentious and eat the most ordinary food, they just cook tasteless at school.

    – At home, children can happily eat a plate of the most ordinary pasta without anything at all. But in the school canteen, even pasta manages to be tasteless. Fedya goes with the class to free hot breakfasts, set for all junior schoolchildren, but eats only bread and tea there, sometimes he can bite off a piece of casserole. I tried to give the children something to take with me, but the director intimidated all the teachers so that they generally forbid taking any snack out of the briefcase. It got to the point that one day Fedya was hiding from the teacher under the desk during the break in order to eat a cereal bar, which I put him with me, – says Nina Fateeva.

She tried to join a parental control group so she could go to school and try canteen meals herself. But she was quickly expelled from the group. Otherwise, it is impossible to get into the school building: according to the requirements of anti-terrorist security, parents are not allowed to go beyond the threshold.

Fateeva tried to resolve the issue with the director, but he sent a reply that homemade food is a risk of poisoning at school. The woman wrote to the Department of Education, but there she was told that only children with health problems, for whom the doctor prescribed a special diet, could eat food brought from home (then you need to bring a certificate with a diagnosis).

    — At the gymnasium, they told me that if the children don’t want to eat in the cafeteria, then let them buy something in the cafeteria. But they sell only rolls, confectionery and drinks. My kids can’t eat confectionery every day, so they just go hungry for half a day. The department of education assured me that there was also hot food in the buffet. This is not true, look at least on the website of the school. Anya once decided to go to the cafeteria with her class to buy a plate of buckwheat. So they didn’t let her in! She was sent to the buffet, and there are only rolls! It turns out like this: either pay the full cost of food on a regular basis, or don’t go at all. It seems to me that all these rules were invented only for the sake of increasing the earnings of the canteen and the director, – Fateeva is indignant.

It follows from the documents on the website of gymnasium No. 6 that the canteen is a structural unit of the school, it reports directly to the director, the school itself hires workers there, there is no information about any third-party contractors. Could not find information about the product vendor either.

    — Why is it possible to bring your own food in all other schools, and not only in ours? I have already interviewed all my friends, everywhere you can. The school management refers to epidemic safety, but as a result, the children quietly eat anything with dirty hands under the desk or in the corridor, says Nina.

Meanwhile, on December 1, the regional Rospotrebnadzor published an article “Can a child bring lunch to school from home?”, which reads:

“Parents have the right to give their child the food they think is necessary. No additional permissions are required for this. This will not be a violation of sanitary rules. What to do if they are not allowed into the dining room with their own food? To resolve this issue, you need to contact the education department of the administration of your municipality.

We turned to the Education Department of Krasnoyarsk. They answered that the food brought from home is not regulated in any way, so the principal of the school can decide this issue himself.

We talked to the headmaster of Gymnasium No. 6 Sergey Semyonov. He stated that when Anya and Fedya brought their food to school, they allegedly ate it “demonstratively” and “as if they were above everyone else.” He also explained that if everyone is allowed to take their own food, then there will be a mess. For example, children will order pizza through delivery services directly to school.

At the end of the conversation, Semyonov agreed that Fateeva’s children take food from home, but only if their parents write a statement that they take full responsibility for the children’s health, so that in the event of some kind of poisoning, the family does not make claims.

Nina replied that she could write such a statement about her eldest daughter, but not about her first-grader son, because he still sometimes eats something from hot school breakfasts. In addition, the law does not oblige parents to write such statements.

And in the majority of Krasnoyarsk schools meals are provided by third-party contractors who enter schools under government contracts. Here we wrote how it works.

Our goal is to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum that will enhance social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth in young children. Kids Place along with parental support share a common goal: providing the best learning opportunities we possibly can for the child. Working together, we believe that optimum development will be obtained.

Our Classrooms

Infants

Kids Place utilizes the Creative Curriculum as the foundation for our practices. It is a research-based curriculum designed for use with children from infancy through Kindergarten.

Our infant curriculum starts off exposing our little ones to lots of language opportunities by singing nursery rhymes, reading picture books and singing songs to them every day to enrich their language skills. The teachers will also enhance the infant’s social, emotional and cognitive development by providing a variety of developmentally appropriate activities such as bouncing, lifting, clapping, gentle tickles, peek-a-boo, reading, tummy time, and singing.

They also go on mats for crawling and rolling to greater develop their motor skills. But most of all, our teachers will cuddle, rock your baby, and provide stimulating massages so that babies feel the love and warmth that they so much desire for a sound emotional development.

Toddlers

Our toddler program also utilizes Creative Curriculum which incorporates developmentally appropriate practices that consider the child’s developmental level and provides opportunities for teachers to work with children who have various skills and abilities. Our spacious facility will provide the opportunity for your toddler to develop in all areas of development including social-emotional, physical, cognitive, literacy, mathematics, science, social studies and the arts.

Our structured schedule with age-appropriate experiences can offer opportunities for children to develop self-help skills and give them ample time to work on these important tasks. Remember that adults are important role models. We model self-help skills to help young children become independent by allowing and encouraging them to take responsibility for themselves whenever possible.

The largest federal training center was forced to make a number of key decisions for Russians

May 13 at 09:00
Education

In connection with the current situation in the world, there is a significant increase in prices for the purchase and maintenance of computers, which cannot but affect the pricing policy of educational institutions that teach IT specialties. From June 1, 2022, the TOR Computer Academy is forced to raise the cost of services by 20%. But there is good news: until the end of May, TOP extends favorable conditions – sign up now and study at the old prices!

Obviously, the March decrees of the President of the Russian Federation related to support measures in the IT field have significantly increased the value of education in the field of information technology. Specialists of the TOR Academy noted the excitement among applicants – it would seem that there is still a lot of time before the start of the next academic year, but places in groups are already being booked.

The following directions are available for those who wish:

  • “Software development”;
  • “Computer graphics and design”;
  • “Small Computer Academy” for children aged 9-14;
  • “First Step” – a preparatory program for children aged 6-8;
  • “Young Programmer” is a developing club for children aged 3-5.

Additionally, the academy conducts recruitment for accelerated courses:

  • “Development of web projects in Python”;
  • “Internet marketing, SMM, contextual and targeted advertising”.

For each course, only one group is collected, each with no more than 16 people. The duration of educational cycles is 12 and 7 months, respectively. Training in courses starts at the moment the groups are filled. Hurry up to enter at a favorable price, book free places.

Also, the academy has extended the conditions for early booking of places in children’s groups – until the summer, each student is provided with a 15% discount. Until June 1, 2022, there is another promotion – a 25% discount for outreach camps on the Black Sea.

Why IT is so attractive

It’s no secret that working in IT today is considered one of the most promising areas – it offers not only a high salary, but also a comfortable schedule, as well as the opportunity to work remotely from anywhere in the world. And one more important plus is that it is not too late to plunge into the field of information technology at any age.

However, there are some nuances: it is not easy to learn the intricacies of, for example, web development on your own – the field is developing dynamically and is constantly acquiring nuances. Instead of an endless search for uninformative online courses, many Kemerovo residents prefer to receive additional professional education – a practical option that allows them to acquire the necessary skills in a short time and find a comfortable job.

“TOP Computer Academy” – a reliable contribution to education

One of the most famous computer academies in Russia, TOR offers students only up-to-date knowledge. It is the world leader in the field of IT education for adults and children. The academy has more than 166 branches in 120 cities of Russia and 22 years of experience in the market of additional education. TOP alumni work for Cisco, Ebay, Amazon, IBM, Facebook, Dell, Oracle, HP, Wix and other leading global companies.

The curriculum of the educational institution is formed by practicing IT specialists. You can get a new profession at the academy from scratch, subsequently becoming a sought-after specialist in any country. Education is easy to combine with work, which is important for those who want to change their profession. However, the academy is also waiting for the younger generation – students are accepted from the age of 15. Every student who decides to get an IT education at TOP will become an experienced and sought-after specialist all over the world by the age of 18.

If you have not decided on the direction of additional education, take a free test for career guidance and PC proficiency at the academy. Attending a master class will help you make the final decision, which will tell you how to become a successful web developer. The seminar program includes:

  • 10 main web developer tools;
  • 7 reasons why you should quit everything and do web development;
  • how much web development specialists earn;
  • who are frontend and backend developers;
  • 10 technologies you need to master to start developing websites;
  • step-by-step instruction “How to become a developer”;
  • benefits of SEO promotion.

The event will take place on May 19 at 18:30 at the address: Nogradskaya street, 5, floor 4.

Who do you trust? Who should your kids trust? Being able to trust is foundational for close relationships. Families thrive when everyone can trust each other.

When there is trust, you feel safe sharing your innermost thoughts and feelings. You can take risks because you know the other person won’t take advantage of your vulnerability. You know they will be there for you.

Building Trust

Trust builds over time through everyday interactions. From the moment of their birth, your children need you to be reliable for keeping them safe and fed. As they grow and ask challenging questions, your honest answers increase their trust. When you make promises and follow through on those promises, you also build trust.

Babies and toddlers are honest in sharing their feelings. They don’t yet have the capability of hiding what’s going on inside. Around 3 or 4-years-old, kids learn they can lie. This is a developmental milestone because it demonstrates realizing that not everyone knows the same thing. Your kids figure out that if you didn’t see them take a cookie, then you do not know they took a cookie. The fact you can see cookie remnants on their face and clothes makes these early lies easy to catch. You then have a golden opportunity to discuss the importance of telling the truth.

Levels of trust fluctuate based on the age of your children and their skills. A preschooler cannot be trusted to use a sharp knife safely, but a teen can be. Kids can’t be trusted with tasks they are not capable of responsibly handling.

Suppose your children want to walk to a park to meet some friends. Depending on the ages of your kids and the park’s location, you may not be comfortable with them walking there alone. You tell them you need to go with them. They protest “you don’t trust us!” You can explain that trust is situational, not universally granted.

Eroding Trust

There are three values which are the basis for trusting someone: honesty, integrity and responsibility. How do these fit into your family’s top moral values? When any of these underlying values are compromised, trust is diminished.

What types of behavior can undermine trust?

  • Lying about something
  • Not keeping promises
  • Gossiping about others
  • Saying one thing but doing another
  • Blaming others instead of taking rightful ownership
  • Refusing to take responsibility for the results of your choices

After trust has been broken, it takes time and commitment to rebuild. There needs to be transparency and openness for this to happen. For example, imagine your child lied about being at after school homework club but was actually at a skateboard park with friends. How will your child rebuild your trust? Perhaps your child will ask the homework club leader to text you each day letting you know your child was there.

Figuring Out Who To Trust

Issues of trust are even more important when your kids are on the internet. They need to be able to discern what information to believe and who to trust. It’s not easy! Manipulation tactics have become sophisticated.

To avoid being trapped into believing fake news, kids need to be able to question what they are reading. A red warning flag should go up whenever something evokes strong emotions. It’s time to pause and think before sharing. Things to consider are

  • Where did this information come from?
  • Is this a reputable resource?
  • How does the author benefit from people reading this?

If a friend has shared the information, your child can ask where they got this information. Teach your child to focus on the article or information without attacking the person.

The internet has made the issue of trust trickier. Due to their limited life experiences, your kids are especially vulnerable to being manipulated. People who want to sexually exploit kids know this. They know how to quickly gain kids’ trust.

Kristin Jensen interviewed Russ Tuttle from The Stop Trafficking Project for her article “The Shocking Tactics Sex Traffickers Use to Trap Your Kids and 5 Ways You Can Protect Them”. Tuttle tells tragic stories of many American kids who have been sexually exploited.

Tuttle reports “we are now finding that on average the grooming process is now down to 8 days where a child will be willing to either meet a complete stranger in person they first met online or begin to share those ‘hot pics’, those nudes’ with someone who is asking for them or fall into some level of sexual exploitation.”

Your kids need your help to avoid problems like these. Discussing real life stories of kids getting sexually exploited is one way to help them recognize some of the dangers. It’s also important to talk about the problems of pornography with them and set boundaries on their internet usage.

You want your kids to be safe. You help keep them safe when you mentor them in determining who and when to trust. Being forewarned prepares them to make their best decisions.

How to teach trustworthiness to your children

What’s in this post. ..

Here are some do’s and don’ts to watch out so you can teach trustworthiness to your children.

Trustworthiness is an important quality we need to invest time in building in the lives of our children. Think about it, do you like to spend time with people you don’t trust?

If you were an employer, would you want to hire people you can’t trust? When thinking about people who have made the biggest positive impact in your lives, were they often very trustworthy?

A trustworthy person is someone who can be relied upon to be honest, truthful, reliable, dependable, credible and safe (source). God calls His children to be trustworthy, and lucky for all of us, it isn’t rocket science.

“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities” (Luke 16:10).

For mothers, this is very good news! It means that from a young age we can encourage trustworthiness in our children in even the smallest of tasks and matters

DO’S

What you should do to encourage and promote trustworthiness in your children.

1) Do give responsibilities

A clear and easy way to develop trustworthiness and responsibility in your children is to give them age appropriate responsibilities or tasks that you keep them accountable for. It might be a chore or two, or making their bed, picking up their toys, etc.

By giving your children something that they can “own” they will learn to follow through with their projects and carry out what is expected of them.

This will take time, patience and training on the part of the parent, of course, because kids are not naturally going to want to do things they don’t consider fun.

After a while, however, when they know there are consequences to their choices, they will get the idea.

2) Do have consequences when responsibilities aren’t met

If your workplace had a  3-tardies-and-you’re-fired rule that you have seen enforced firsthand, through hell or high water you’d get to work on time. If your co-worker has shown up 20 minutes late every day for a year, you aren’t terribly worried about it.

Our children learn, not in a manipulative way, to follow our lead. If we expect them to clean their room and – when they do not – we do nothing about it, they will quickly learn that they don’t have to do it if they don’t want to since nothing negative happens anyway.

A good way to help train responsibility is by giving a task and then a consequences for failing to do the tasks, or conversely, rewards for completing it.

No park on Friday afternoon if the [insert chore here] wasn’t completed during the week. After a Friday or two of sitting it out they would quickly get the picture.

3) Do explain beforehand clearly what you expect, and why trustworthiness is so important.

Children are born with immature minds. They need their parents to train and explain things. When giving a responsibility it is important to fully explain to your child what you expect of them, what will happen when they do/don’t follow through, and why responsibility is so important.

Trustworthiness is not about promising something to make others happy, but about following through on promises made.

DON’TS

Here are some things to avoid so you don’t inadvertently teach your children that image is more important than truth.

1) Don’t treat children as though they are trustworthy with a task/matter when in fact they are not

If you have told your child not to read under their covers at night and they repeatedly disobey you, then don’t treat them with the trust they have not earned.

Don’t allow them to close their door and “give you their word.” Their word is not trustworthy. A parent would do well to insist the door be left open and periodically check that the child is in fact not reading.

When your child knows that you aren’t just taking their word for it, but that you are taking their deed for it, then they will be more concerned with following your instructions than with telling you their intentions.

If they are not to play the playstation before they’ve finished their homework and yet repeatedly disobey, don’t give them the chance to continue disobeying.

Hide the playstation to a place of your choosing only to be brought out after the homework has been completed and checked for completion by the parent. Trusting people when they have not proven themselves trustworthy never gives them impetus to become a trustworthy person.

On the contrary, it encourages their thinking that it is what we say that matters, not what we do.

2) Don’t have unrealistic expectations that leave children feeling disappointed and unable to perform

Training and teaching responsibility will take years and years and they’ll still be learning it when they leave your house. It is something to be prioritized, but not something that should overburden your child. This is why age appropriate tasks are so important. Starting off very small and then increasing responsibility as they get older will help prevent “burnout.”

Now, responsibility is not necessarily just having your child do a chore. Perhaps it is an activity or task that, after completion, results in a reward. If they visit their elderly neighbour for a chat or help another in their yard, an appropriately exciting reward or privilege can be given.

It isn’t bribing because they still choose to do this of their own volition or not since there’s no punishment if it isn’t completed. It is simply a way to get your child to think about how their actions affect their circumstances.

3) Failing to follow-up to be sure the task is complete

If your child is expected to do certain things or say certain things yet knows they are never checked, they will soon stop worrying about their obligations.

“Make your bed, wash the dishes, do your homework” all become background noise to be ignored when they know that nothing will happen to them if they don’t.

If isn’t a sign you don’t love or trust them to check up on their duties, but simply a way to reinforce that you are the parent in authority and you are aware of what happens under your roof. If they come to you with a “I’ve cleaned my room” then a simple “Great, let’s go check it out” each and every time will prevent them from moving a few piles around on the floor and calling it a day.

In short

One of the qualities I value most in a person is their trustworthiness. I believe that God wants to use all of His children, but many callings and ministries require people of high character and dependability.

If I am not faithful with small things (ie, my own finances, gossip, being a starter finisher) then God would not trust me with handling finances for a ministry, confidential information, or to manage a project near to His heart.

He doesn’t expect us to be perfect or we wouldn’t need Jesus, but we can seek to be as good as our word and faithful with the things God has put before us.

Raising our children to understand the importance of integrity and honesty (NOT what the surface looks like, but what’s really underneath) will help many other areas of life come more easily to them.

They will be naturally placed to be both naturally and supernaturally blessed in their personal, professional and spiritual lives. It isn’t something we beat our children over the head with, but simply something we can start developing from a very young age in small steps.

Having patience, never withholding love and displaying trustworthiness yourself will go a long way in helping bring up trustworthy little Rescuers.

How to learn to trust a child

A child is born not just trusting, but entrusting himself to his parents completely and without a trace. And while the child is small and completely dependent on the parents, we often get into the habit of thinking that this will always be the case.

Time goes by and children grow up, mature, develop and change. But not only children are changing, the relationship between children and parents is also changing. And how often in such relationships there is not enough mutual trust. Parents’ trust in their child, children’s trust in their parents.

Where does trust go with age? How to save it?

— Mom, on Saturday I want to go to the club with the guys!
– Who do you want to go with?
– You don’t know them!
– I think you should prepare for geography, you need to fix your grade!
– And here are the lessons, you always reduce everything to study!
– And you, only festivities are on your mind!
– And you have only study . .. you don’t understand me!

Isn’t it a familiar dialogue?

Such a dialogue is possible in any family. What conclusion the child will come to and what decision the mother will make depends on how much mother and daughter understand, or are ready to understand each other.

The dialogue can go on and on with mutual accusations and claims, but for us, as parents, it is important not so much to make a decision – to let go or not to let go, but to understand why two loving people behave this way? In our case, the mother wants to find a solution this minute and spare herself the unpleasant discussion. What will she prioritize for making a decision, the desire to save herself from unnecessary worries or the needs of her daughter, her own negative experience, or the desire to punish the child for lack of due diligence in school. Her motives may be different, but the fact remains – she, in this situation, does not hear and does not understand her daughter, and the daughter, in turn, wants to achieve a positive answer.

Let’s try to analyze the situation.

Text Mom’s interpretations Daughter’s interpretations
Mom, on Saturday I want to go to the club with the guys! I’m worried, who will she go with, what will she do? Will she be safe? Well, I have to ask again, is it really not clear that I need this?
Who do you want to go with? What kind of friends, how much can I trust them? Oh, these checks again, how tired of this control, when will I be able to make such decisions myself?
You don’t know them! It is clear, not familiar and not understandable people, with whom did it contact there? Yeah, now I’ll tell you who I’m going with, what else would you say to them, they already treat them like a youngster.
I think you should prepare for geography, you need to fix your grade! I will transfer the topic to study, let him feel his responsibility. Can conscience wake up? How many of these ridiculous arguments can be made. Studying is a fiction, it’s not serious. He knows that I have a conflict with the geographer, so he presses …
And then there are the lessons, you always blame everything for studying! Well, it has begun… And why not, it is your responsibility, and you do not fulfill your obligations! Mom, understand, this is not an argument!
You have only one thing on your mind – to walk! Your irresponsibility infuriates me! (I don’t understand how you can trust strangers) How can you not understand that I need to assert myself, because I have no other opportunity.
Ah, you only have to study… you don’t understand me! I am with my father, I do everything for her, but she is ungrateful… Study means less to me than the desire to feel grown up and independent.
  • Mom’s leading motive is concern.
  • The leading motive of the child is to be independent.

The mother’s concern is understandable – she cares, she is not sure that her daughter understands her “friends” correctly, she is not sure of her daughter’s safety, she does not trust her daughter that she can make informed decisions.

The daughter is tired of total control, she already considers herself an adult and capable of making independent decisions. The mother’s arguments do not resonate with her daughter. Mom says “nonsense” again. The daughter does not trust what the mother says.

The general state of both sides is mistrust and despair. In this case, the negotiations of the parties reached an impasse, where is the way out?

What is trust or who do we trust?

We trust a person who respects our point of view and treats us as individuals. We trust a person who is sincere and consistent in his actions. We trust a person who takes care of us.

We can definitely say that trusting relationships have been lost between mother and daughter, which means that mutual understanding is out of the question.

What we observe in our case:

None of the participants in the conversation speaks openly about their desires and fears. If the mother does not allow herself to openly talk about her feelings, then the daughter simply has nowhere to learn this from.

Teach your child to express his feelings! Remember that repressed feelings do not disappear anywhere, they are just waiting for an opportunity to break through. But it is difficult to imagine in what form this may manifest itself, and what consequences it will lead to.

Mom cannot trust her daughter because she is not sure that her daughter is capable of her own opinion and that she will not be led by other children. Learning independence is a process of purposeful and conscious efforts of parents, and if parents do not see an independent personality in a 15-year-old daughter, then this is the responsibility of parents.

Cultivate in your child a natural desire for independence from early childhood, reinforce and encourage even the most minimal manifestations.

Stop thinking and deciding for the child, give him the opportunity to choose for himself and do not call independence, when it is convenient for you, obstinacy. You will fight obstinacy, you will kill independence.

Encourage any manifestation of independence, but gently correct deviations. For example, a child in a store wants to push a cart by himself. It slows you down, but trying to help causes you to scream and cry. Are you ashamed that others pay attention to you, you the reflex is triggered, and you punish the child, and at the same time the desire to help, the desire to act, the desire to make decisions independently. This is instead of giving the child an independent task that he can do, for example, to find packages and pack milk and butter, not forgetting, after, to thank the assistant. So who needs to be educated here?

Our heroine is trying to manipulate – to covertly influence her daughter (ineptly translate to another topic). Confusion and impotence are clearly visible in the actions of the mother, she cannot orient herself in this situation, she does not know how to express her fears, and she is not sure that her daughter will be able to understand her.

Learn, develop and know yourself

Many parents do not realize that they are in captivity of their own stereotypes. It seems to them that motherhood and fatherhood is what they know how to do initially, and the desire to learn more about it means to sign their parental incompetence. It is acceptable to improve in one’s professional activity, undergo training, get acquainted with new approaches, but it is a shame to improve one’s parenting skills – what will mom say?

The mother, in our case, accuses the child of irresponsibility. And who is responsible for this? Why, at the age of 15, does a daughter not consider it necessary to be responsible for her actions, for the consequences, for the fulfillment of obligations? Maybe the parents did not allow the child to feel that he is the cause of the consequences of his actions, maybe the parents saved and protected the child from “troubles”? Or, perhaps, the parents allowed the child to doubt responsibility as a human value?

To develop any quality in a child, remember three basic rules:

  1. In order to teach a child something, you must first build the right, trusting relationship with him. No relationship – no desire to learn from your experience. Trying to force will backfire.
  2. Determine, first of all, for yourself what this quality means, why it is important and how it manifests itself. You must be the best example of having this quality.
  3. Notice any manifestation of this quality from early childhood and reinforce it by emphasizing its importance and value.

Learn to “let go” of the child

Letting go does not mean indulging any desires. Letting go means releasing children from control and their participation in those cases when the child wants, can and is ready to cope on his own. This will be the best demonstration of trust on your part.

A child is a guest in your house – feed, teach and let go.

Indian proverb

None of the parents is immune from mistakes, there are simply parents who have the power to recognize them and learn to correct them, and there are parents who, for the sake of their ambitions and complexes, go through the fate of the child, depriving him of the opportunity to become yourself.

If you want your child to trust you, learn to accept him.

Every parent wants to know what’s going on with their child. What worries the child, what difficulties does he face. Part of this desire stems from our anxiety and desire for control. But most of all, we want to support the child in a difficult situation. Why do children often do not turn to us for it?

One of the most difficult conditions for a child is to be left alone with a problem. Often he cannot find an adequate solution on his own and exacerbates the problem, getting into even more stress. The twisting of this spiral is most evident in teenagers who, having misjudged the situation, or failing to fight back, end up in dubious companies, addictions, risk groups, or just bad stories. So many troubles with children come from the fact that they cannot discuss their experiences with a significant adult, turning to their parents last.

Where do they turn?

Internet. For example, they enter a question in a search engine. At best, the answer will be a psychological support site or a helpline, at worst, a malicious community on a social network, and most often a forum or public forum for children of his age or older, where they discuss their problems and give each other advice based on their young outlook, and sometimes from not the best intentions.

To friends. The story is almost the same as with communities. With the difference that friends are safer in terms of “bad advice.” However, they are often as inexperienced as your child, and the advice given is rash.

No one. Being alone with his problem, the child often gets confused: winding up himself and the situation, he does things (due to lack of life experience or erroneous calculation of the consequences) that do not lead to resolution, but aggravate it.

Finally, to the parents. Isn’t it strange that this option is the last one on the list? Often by the age of 10-12, parents completely lose contact with their children, which is why they do not turn to them for advice.

Broken contact

Like all big problems, such a break does not occur suddenly. The lack of contact is, first of all, the absence of a warm and trusting relationship between a parent and a child, which does not appear by the very fact of kinship, you cannot force them and you cannot build them in one “heart-to-heart talk”. Parents often believe that if they periodically repeat the phrase “you can tell me everything about everything,” this is enough for the child to feel trust. Parents are the most important and closest figure for the child and have the maximum limit of trust until they themselves exhaust it with a negative reaction to openness.

One step back

If you want your child to trust you and tell you a lot about himself, learn from early childhood to respond correctly to his small and big misdeeds.

There is a simple rule – if you scold a child when he came and told that he “had a mischief” – very quickly he will stop telling you about it. Who wants to get hit in the neck? That is, you understand that they will not stop “smoking” (trying, making mistakes, miscalculating the consequences of their actions), but will stop telling.

Learn to listen to your child first and not scold. Carries a broken car – take pity on the child, not the toy. He said that he broke the sugar bowl – show how to remove the consequences. It is a mistake to think that if you scold a child, in the future he will be more attentive and accurate. As if tidy adults never break dishes? They break it, but then they collect the fragments in a scoop, throw them away, draw conclusions. Teach the children this mechanism as well, analyze each situation with it: talk about how to eliminate the consequences if they occur, and what conclusions need to be drawn.

As a rule, even after a “planned” misconduct, the child himself has a feeling of guilt. If he did something by accident or did not calculate the consequences – stress and guilt. If the parent adds his reprimand, the child’s guilt will increase many times over. But this does not bring any benefit at all, except that it is very burdensome for the psyche of the child, crushes him, he feels that he was left completely alone. Even the closest – parents – did not accept him. The feeling of abandonment in a little man grows to the size of the cosmos. It is useful to remember yourself in childhood. The child experiences a lot of emotional stress, but he cannot draw conclusions on his own. And even if, after a portion of swearing, the parents talk about the situation, the stress will be so great that it will block the possibilities of rational perception.

What to do?

There is a very reasonable pedagogical approach, according to which children in the family are scolded only for lying. The child understands that he can come to his parents with any question and any problem and get support and advice. If I do not need to hide anything from a parent, and he accepts me in any way, I will learn to accept myself. How many of us miss that, right? Our parents could not teach us this because they themselves had neither the knowledge nor the resources. But we can give it to our children. Unconditional acceptance is the very basis and foundation of a trusting relationship between parent and child.

Being a reliable support for our children, we reduce the risk of them falling under the undesirable influence of companies or online communities, we ourselves feel more relaxed, knowing that if a child encounters difficulties, we will be the first to whom he will turn.

Sick Child Day Care Centers

Kids don’t get sick only on the weekends

It’s the morning of a major presentation, and your child greets you with a low fever and a runny nose. There is no way she will be able to go to day care today, and you have one hour and 10 minutes before you are expected at work. You have a few backup sitters, but they have children of their own whom they won’t want exposed to your child’s sniffles or they live too far for you to connect with them and still make it to work on time. What are your options?

Until recently, not many. But there is a growing trend among child-care facilities: centers for sick kids. Born from the use of separate sick bays for ill children at regular day cares, there has been a recent increase in these centers. And for many Solo Moms, they are welcome relief.

How they work

Sick-kid centers are usually staffed by at least one registered nurse. Children range in age from four months to four years, though some centers accept a wider range of ages. Kids are divided into rooms depending on their illness. Typically, a contagious child will be given a room of his or her own while other children who have minor illnesses or who are not contagious can play together. Children are grouped according to their type of illness to avoid new exposures.

Centers take careful measures to guarantee the healthiest environment possible. Toys are disinfected after each use. Children and caregivers must wash their hands frequently, and rooms and all common areas are disinfected each night after closing.

It’s not unusual

According to Jacqueline W. Stewart, a pediatrician and president of Huggs & Kisses Sick Child Care in Birmingham, Alabama, approximately 350,000 children of working parents are sick each day in the United States.

“It’s both puzzling and unacceptable that we trumpet the importance of family values as a society, yet we have fewer policies in place to aid working families than any other advanced industrial nation in the world,” says Stephanie Coontz, director of research and public education at the Council on Contemporary Families.

We do have family leave, but that is in place to care for a newly born or adopted child. Family leave can also be used for care of a very serious illness. What we do not have is anything in place for time off to deal with the more routine, short-term illnesses that are part of childhood, such as the flu or ear infections. And with more than one-third of a million kids waking up sick each morning, Solo Moms need solutions.

But shouldn’t I be home with my sick child?

The Solo Moms I spoke to who have used these services reported—overwhelmingly—a sense of relief that their child is being taken care of by medical professionals. Should the illness turn more serious, a trained eye is there to spot any complications and take immediate action. Knowing their child was in good hands made them able to focus on work. And centers are used to frequent check-in calls.

Where to find sick-child centers

  • You can call your local hospital to ask if it sponsors a sick-child center or knows of any locally. Some day-care centers offer sick-child care.
  • Child Care Aware offers referral agencies and lists of local resources, and has a referral hotline. You can call 1-800-424-2246 to inquire about sick and backup centers.
  • Rainbow Station is a comprehensive child-care facility that provides care for mildly and chronically ill children. It has several locations in Virginia.
  • Under the Weather is a sick-child-care company that provides in-home and child-care center services in Minnesota.
  • If you live in the Birmingham, Alabama, area, contact Huggs & Kisses Sick Child Care at 205-324-8447.

Important tip

All centers have preregistration materials. It’s a wise idea to have your child preregistered in the event you will use the services. It can save precious minutes in the morning and make you much less frazzled.

No Solo Mom should have to make the choice between her child and her livelihood. With a little planning, even an unexpectedly feverish day can be navigated smoothly.

Anne Spollen lives happily as a Solo Mom to three kids and works as an author, a writer, and a college teacher.

Our town is small, everyone is in sight and hearing of each other, and even Galina Vladimirovna, who year after year and with a whip and a gingerbread masterfully knocked out alimony from the local cuckoos, is known and respected by everyone here. Everyone gasped when she took the foster baby! But real miracles began when the baby began to get better before our eyes, and this is only thanks to Galina’s love. Congratulate her on Mother’s Day – she is real, whatever one may say.
Of course, after such a message, I phoned Galina ZHATOVA, acting head of the department of bailiffs of the Opochetsky and Krasnogorodsky districts, and heard an amazing story.

To herself…
director
Galya grew up in Ostrov, studied in Ostrov, lives and works here. But her life was not going smoothly from the very beginning. She never knew her father, she grew up with her mother and stepfather. None of them are alive anymore.
– Until the 6th grade, I went to study at a boarding school, in Opochka, – says Galina. – Mother worked hard all her life, at the Ostrovsky bakery, in the foundry, night, day, any shifts. Therefore, I lived in a boarding school for a week, and at home for the weekend. But it is not known where it was better, mom and stepfather spent the weekend in their own way, like so many hard workers in our country. Like Nekrasov, remember “Who lives well in Rus’,” he said about a Russian peasant: “He works to death, drinks half to death.” And if we talk about my fate, I am a full-fledged blacksmith of my own happiness – I made my own way into life, educated myself.
Galina went to study only after 30 years. Before that, there was only secondary education and evening school behind him. But most importantly, she already had Ulya. Daughter!
– What would I do now without Ulyana! She is my daughter, friend and helper. Yes, if not for her, I might not have decided to take the baby. Ulya is a first-class girl – right!
From the age of 17, Galina worked at the Zarya garment factory, there was a time – she worked at Voentorg, grabbed any job, since her hands were accustomed to work from childhood. But the moment came when Galya decided to study. Books, textbooks after work – crammed, prepared. She set an alarm for 6 … Galina entered the law faculty of the Sebezh Agricultural College and graduated in absentia. Why not a cutter? It would seem that already in the profession, a seamstress, learn to cut, and here is your ticket to life. An, no!
Although, as Galina admitted to me, she still has a sewing machine to this day, no, no, but she gets: “I want to sew…”

You have to be born a bailiff
!
Life is a complicated thing – Galina understood this a long time ago. And in order to protect your rights, you need to know them.
– I set out to study the law, – says my heroine. – She did not stop at the Sebezh Technical School, she graduated from the Academy of Law and Management, also in absentia. That’s when my friend from the bailiff service called me. “Galya,” she says, “you are waiting for … alimony!” And so, since 2005, I have been in the bailiff service. But I’ll tell you right away, you have to be born a bailiff. After all, I know this whole kitchen from the inside, from a young age. It was not a wonder for me to come to some deprived of parental rights, and there “there’s nothing to breathe,” as some people turn up their noses. All my childhood, one might say, I had nothing to breathe. I understand this all my life: I talk to people, I give my phone, I delve into the situation, I look for ways out – I work like a human being and love my job very much. And people are grateful.
These gratitudes are the most important certificates of honor of Galina Zhatova, although she has enough real awards. But for her, the main thing is that people respect them, as she respects them.

Loneliness
together
Galina’s first marriage did not last long. The young husband cheated with his best friend, and Galya eliminated both her husband and all her friends.
– With my second husband, Edik, we have been together for 10 years, – says Galina. – They raised Ulyana together. My beauty gave birth to my grandson at the age of 18, our Nikita is already 14 years old. But she did not work out with her husband, and together with Nikitka they lived with us. And when Ulya met a man, and they decided to leave for St. Petersburg, I said this: “Leave Nikita to us, arrange your life, and when you arrange it, you will take it.” And when they took Nikitka away, it was then that I began to hang myself on the walls. You come home – perfect cleanliness. What do Edik and I do, do we litter a lot? No cooking, no washing. Always order. And a sea of unspent love!
Galina began to stay late at work until 11 o’clock – and what about lounging at home? She left for work by 7 am both on weekdays and on weekends. And the thought of a child crept into my heart somehow by itself. I shared my idea with my daughter, and Ulyana, take it and support! Galina thought for another two whole years. Around the acquaintances twisted their fingers at the temple, they say, the children have grown up, live for themselves, travel. But happiness is different for everyone.
Watching her mother turn sour, Uliana reminded her of the child from the orphanage: “Mom, take this seriously!” Galina went to Pskov, signed up for foster parents’ courses: every Sunday for two months. Time flew by quickly, but, as it turned out, there were no free children.
– Cuckoos – they are not stupid: they will leave the child in the maternity hospital, and they will attach a statement to it, they say, due to a difficult family situation, I can’t take it home … And until all the children get it, the child grows up in a baby house without status for adoption.
Galina applied for custody, and soon she was informed that Dima’s mother had been deprived of parental rights.

Dima
and… orphanage
Galina went to Pechory with her husband for the first date with the baby. We collected a whole bag of toys, clockwork cars …
– I already took rattles for the second date, – says Galina. – Dima was diagnosed with a delay in psychoverbal and motor development. But this is not surprising, because no one deals with refuseniks there, they just lie in their beds in their own juice. I spoke with the staff, they answered in a businesslike way, they say, what do you want, we have 6 minutes for each child. Just 6 minutes – just think about how scary it is … I still can’t forget our first meeting. As soon as the nanny released Dima from her hands, he smiled and crawled with all his might towards me. I picked him up in my arms, he smiled and looked at my face. And then it broke through me – I burst into tears: “Baby, I will never give you to anyone!” And you know, such tenderness suddenly overflowed in me. It’s been 3 years since I changed. Before Dima, I was quick-tempered, nervous, and with him I found some kind of extraordinary calmness. Dima is my miracle. There, standing, looking out the window, chatting something in his own way …
Galina was on maternity leave for 1 year. And love, patience, massages, books, games, every minute care and support worked a miracle – Dima’s diagnoses began to gradually disappear. He learned to walk, eat on his own … He spoke!
– Surprisingly, the first word was “dad”, even though Zhatov and I parted ways, – says Galina. – No, not because of Dima, it’s only ours, personal. Maybe I missed something – I can not say. But Edik visits us, helps, walks with Dima, by the way, people joke: “Zhatov, you are the spitting image!”.
Miracle, but they really look alike.

Family without children –
not a family!
In less than a year, Dima went to kindergarten, and Galina was transferred to Pushgory, and then to Opochka. She does not have a car, and every morning she goes to work by bus. She would hardly have had time to take Dima out of the kindergarten if it hadn’t been for…
– And again Ulyana turned out to be next to me, – says Galina. – During this time, she and her husband moved to Pskov, opened their own shop, but the pandemic ate everything – including their marriage. Ulyana returned to me again, but not only with Nikita, but also with Sophia – the granddaughter was born on the same day after 10 years, September 13, 2019of the year. Apparently, God heard me – in our three-ruble note again laughter, noise, din, and full of things to do.
Dima is two years away from school, but so far he is still lagging behind his peers.
– Educators, a psychologist, a defectologist, a speech therapist and even the children of our kindergarten, of course, do wonders, – Galina thanks her native “Brigantine” from the bottom of her heart.
From the first days, the kindergarten “Brigantine” has become for Dima the second reliable stronghold after the house, where he is loved and helped. And if he does not have time to catch up with his peers for school, then he is happy to go to kindergarten for another year. For the sake of success and achievements of her son, Galina is even ready to leave her favorite job. But, I hope this will not happen, and God will create another small miracle for Dima and his mother Galya.
Gisela Derzhavina,
Ostrov

From the Editor: Galina Vladimirovna, every day is Mother’s Day for you! And may every such day be festive and give you endless miracles.

Impulse Severa – Ruslan kindergarten is where journalists are raised and media space is developed

Modern children spend most of their time in kindergarten. Therefore, it is important what they are taught there. Read, write and respect adults? Or, on top of that, do interviews, write articles, and broadcast on the radio? If you think that this is impossible, then you are definitely not familiar with the Ruslan kindergarten. Thanks to an enthusiastic team, the institution is developing a real media space for the little ones. By the way, those who carefully watch our next story will be the first to get a hint about the new project “Impulse of the North”.

Milana Fedorova, correspondent:

Today I am not the only correspondent in this story. My colleague Yaroslav is with me. Yaroslav, hello.

Hello.

Yaroslav Romanov, a pupil of the Ruslan kindergarten:

— My name is Yaroslav Romanov, I am a reporter for the Ruslan kindergarten. And what is your name?
– Milan.
– Do you like the New Year?
– I really love the New Year and gifts.

Yaroslav got the basics of interviewing in Ruslan kindergarten. Initially, the education system did not provide for teaching these skills, but the head of the institution decided otherwise. The first “Know How” was the release of its own newspaper “Doshkolyonok”.

Bella Dzhemakulova, head of the Ruslan kindergarten:

Here is a newspaper. It contains information about where we participate, what we do, what events we participate in.

Galina Efremova, teacher-speech therapist of the kindergarten “Ruslan”:

We publish our newspaper for parents and caregivers. Not everyone participates in events. And the newspaper has a lot of photos, a lot of text. And then, it’s a memory.

There were few newspapers. In the garden, they decided to develop a media space and created a radio. On the air is a correspondent already familiar to us – Yaroslav Romanov.

Good morning, kindergarten “Ruslan.

Bella Dzhemakulova, head of the Ruslan kindergarten:

We must do something like this and show that we and our children can do more. And we will cooperate with Impulse. They will hold master classes with our editors, journalists, correspondents, who we have in the form of small children.

Yes, yes, you heard right. We, the journalists of Impulse Severa, will be working on a radio project with Yaroslav and his other little colleagues. But for now, let it remain a secret.

Galina Efremova, teacher-speech therapist of the Ruslan kindergarten:

If from an early age children will be able to speak and formulate their thoughts correctly (this is both interviews and texts), then our children will be advanced.

KinderCare Child Nutrition I Snacks & Meal Plans

Well-nourished kids make the best learners! That’s why nutritious meals and snacks are provided every day—and they’re all included in your tuition. And, we’re serving up more than just a delicious menu created by expert nutritionists. At mealtimes, your child will get brave trying new things, practice good table manners, learn to share, and discover the flavors and textures of world foods!

Find your center

Feeding your baby happens your way.

Nursing, bottle-feeding, formula-feeding, or starting on solids—it’s all on the menu! If you’re breastfeeding, you’re welcome to come to the center to feed your baby. We’ll provide a comfortable environment for you to nurse. If you’d like us to store breastmilk or formula bottles at our center and bottle-feed your baby on their schedule, we’d be honored to do that for you. We’ll work together to make sure we’re offering up what’s “just right” for your baby’s age and stage. If your child is ready for solids, we’ve got a world of flavor to share with them!

Explore our programs by age

Healthy habits start here.

Introducing kids to healthy foods at an early age helps them nurture healthy habits later in life. So, our team of expert chefs and nutritionists make sure every breakfast, lunch, and snack menu features fruits and veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains. (You won’t find fried food, juice, or desserts at our centers.) Once our Nutrition team comes up with a meal idea, our kid-critics test and approve every bite!

Mmmmenu!

We take care to introduce the wonderful world of flavors to your child and their developing palate. Curious about what’s on
the menu each week? Our meals are planned in advance so you can see what’s served every day.

Here’s a sampling of what our kitchens are cooking up:

Breakfast

  • Scrambled eggs and orange slices
  • Whole-grain pancakes with warm fruit compote
  • Plain yogurt with fresh fruit
  • Whole-grain biscuits with SunButter®

Lunch

  • Chickpea biryani with brown rice and green beans
  • Tuna melts with peas and pears
  • Tropical rice bowls with chickpeas and mandarin oranges
  • Flatbread pizzas with fresh broccoli and bell peppers

Afternoon Snack

  • SunButter and jelly sandwiches
  • Hummus and veggie sticks
  • Applesauce and sweet potato crackers
  • Whole-grain cranberry oat bites

Every bite is a learning experience!

Learning doesn’t stop when meals start. Mindful mealtimes turn the everyday routine of eating into extra-special moments where kids practice being very grown up! After everyone washes their hands, your child will sit down for a shared meal. We serve food family-style, which means kids take their portions from passed platters instead of being served a plate that’s already dished up. This simple shift builds community, teaches table manners, and fosters independence for your child.

All the skills kids build at mealtimes include:

Social-emotional skills like sharing, discussing the meal, and saying “please” and “thank you”.

Executive function skills like making decisions and following hunger cues.

Motor skills like serving, passing, using utensils, and cleaning up after themselves.

Our superpower: working up an appetite in your picky eater

Relieving a selective eater of anxiety around unfamiliar foods takes time, understanding, and lots of exposure! In fact, children’s taste preferences are shaped by their experiences and exposures to food, which is why we expose kids to a variety of flavors and textures in our centers. Our cooks love preparing good-for-you food that tastes great to kids.

We serve up food for thought!

At mealtimes, your child’s teacher will offer and encourage your child to think about and interact with all their food, even if they don’t eat everything. They’ll lead discussions about the food on everyone’s plate and get all five senses involved!

You might overhear this at a KinderCare dining table:

  • Is your oatmeal crunchy or smooth? Is it hot or cold?
  • Did you know tomatoes are fruits?
  • What does asparagus remind you of?

Learn more about our approach to education.

We can accommodate allergies and restricted diets.

Vegetarian options are always available for kids who don’t eat meat, and we serve vegetarian entrees to all students a few times each week. If your child has a food allergy or other dietary restriction that needs special accommodations, we’ll partner with you to work out a plan.

Voice navigator About the project But, alas, not every child will be happy to eat ordinary porridge or cottage cheese. Therefore, mothers have to constantly invent something, invent something so that the child does not turn away from cooked food. The main secret of recipes for children at home lies in an interesting presentation, the use of fresh products and healthy ingredients. Of course, the children’s menu should include soups, milk porridge, meat (minced meat), vegetables, fruits. But most preschoolers and children of primary school age are wary of vegetable stews and salads. Not too willingly, they eat a whole apple, pear or banana. It will be much more interesting for them to eat fruit skewers, a boiled egg that “turned” into a pig or a carrot cut into stars.

Recipes for children are the fruit of creativity and imagination of mothers and grandmothers who do not want to “stuff” children with products with various fillers, dyes, preservatives. For example, the same oatmeal will become tastier if you add a spoonful of jam, berries, pieces of fruit to it. In a selection of children’s recipes with step-by-step photos, our authors suggest preparing delicious applesauce with cream, banana milkshake, fruit dessert with chocolate chips.

It is not at all necessary to give the baby a banal cottage cheese with sour cream, where he would rather eat a cottage cheese casserole with jam. As a rule, the main method of cooking in easy recipes for children is baking or boiling, and not frying in oil or stewing in sauce. Children love sweets, they can also be prepared in the home kitchen, even chocolate eggs. Take a look at this recipe in our collection. Cook with Hayshef and you will have a real “surprise”!

11 Good Manners for Kids to Teach Your Children, Please (Plus 10 Convos to Have RIGHT NOW!)

Manners for Kids: Having Good Manners is an Incredibly Important Life Skill

It’s hard, but developing your kids’ manners beyond Please & Thank You is critical.

And like so many other things, getting kids into the habit of using manners at an early age makes things much easier in the long haul.

As my kids age and begin to play away from home and interact with teachers and parents, I’m noticing that they don’t always use eye contact when speaking with others and they often forget to say “excuse me.”

I’ve also noticed that simply telling them to practice these good manners isn’t enough.

To develop good manners in kids, they need to know why this is important for them. After all, they see their father and me using manners all the time, so they know that these are things that people are supposed to do, but kids want to know what the point is.

When I explain the why behind certain manners, their eyes light up with comprehension. “Ohhhh,” they say. “Okay!” And they begin to practice it.

To start working on manners for kids, try to model the kinds of behavior you want to see in your children.

Trust me—they are paying attention. (Even when you don’t want them to!)

11 Good Manners for Kids

Here are what I consider to be the 11 most important manners for kids and my reasons WHY they are important.

While many of these seem like common sense, kids don’t know what’s expected of them until you explain it. Make your expectations clear, and then model it yourself so they can see these good manners for kids in action.

1) Say please. This shows consideration for others.

2) Say thank you. This demonstrates appreciation and gratitude.

3) Look people in the eye when you speak to them. It’s a good way to show respect for the other person. (**Please note that neurodivergent people struggle with eye contact. It’s smart to teach kids that not all adults will hold eye contact. It’s also wise to observe your child to see if they don’t maintain eye contact because they are simply unable to.)

4) Apologize. It shows empathy and that you are taking responsibility for your actions.

5) Smile & have a good attitude. This makes everything better for yourself and others!

6) Make small talk. This is an important social skill for friendships and, later in life, getting and keeping a job.

7) Ask questions of others. This shows interest in others’ ideas and feelings.

8) Say excuse me. This shows consideration for others.

9) Look for opportunities to compliment others. This makes others feel good and helps with reciprocal relationships.

10) Share. This shows others you care, and helps you to think of others, makes you appreciate what you have.

11) Treat others the way you want to be treated. Covers all bases!

Reinforce Good Manners for Kids

Reinforcing good manners isn’t hard but it is something that needs to be deliberately undertaken.
Here are several ways I’ve found that work to foster good manners for kids:

1) Cement Good Manners by Reading a Book about Manners

RECOMMENDED BOOKS TO HELP WITH MANNERS FOR KIDS

Some of my favorites include Please Say Please, Perfect Pigs, Dude, That’s Rude, Are You Quite Polite, The Berenstein Bears Forget Their Manners, and The Thingamajig Book of Manners.

Most should be available through your local library, bookstore, or using the linked images below.

2) Give your kids “the talk”

Before going to school, the store, a friend’s house, or relatives’ house, emphasize the manners for kids that you expect them to follow. It sounds basic, but a quick reminder about what your expectations are for behavior can go a long way!

3) Create your own list of family manners

Focus on the ones that are important for your own family. State them in a positive way and post them somewhere as a reminder for everyone.

4) Make a manners competition within your household

Have a marble jar or a sticker chart for every family member and give each other points for using good manners. At the end of the week, let the winner pick dessert for the night, choose a fun family activity for the night, have the evening off from chores, or some other incentive of his or her choice.

5) Come up with a fun phrase or sound

Choose a sound to serve as a reminder for one another when manners are forgotten. Some ideas: a buzzer sound, “rewind,” “oops, you forgot something,” or “let’s try that again.”

10 Things Parents Really Need to Talk about with Their Kids

Regular communication between parents and kids is not only the key to good manners, but it’s also important for their safety and emotional health.

Over my many years of working as a school social worker and my many years as a parent, I have come up with a list of 10 things that all parents really need to talk about with their kids.

Yes, there are probably more than 10 conversations you need to have with your child over the course of their lifetime, but these are the biggies. Some of these topics will be a one-time thing, but many of them should be more ongoing.

Here they are, in no particular order:

1) Believe in Yourself

Self-confidence might be the most important factor in life success and overall happiness.

And no, I am not talking about the overconfident trash-talking kid (or coworker!) that we all know and love.

Kids need to be able to recognize their talents and positive qualities.

They need your help to discover these things. Take the time to tell them how proud you are. Point out their positive qualities. Tell them that you believe in them. This will help them to explore, take risks, and find success.

2) Appreciate What You Have

Whether you are super wealthy or barely getting by, it is important to remind your kids to be grateful for what they have.

My husband does a great job of pointing out the little things to our kids all the time. Warm pajamas, healthy food, bikes, great teachers, helpful neighbors, the ability to walk: all of these things are so easy to take for granted.

Help your kids notice the little things. Having an attitude of gratitude is contagious and makes you appreciate the little things.

3) Be Nice

While this may sound overly simple, it’s a great way to live.

I love wearing my “be nice” shirt. We even have a “be nice” sign on our wall at home.

It matters how you treat others.

Be nice to your siblings, be nice to your friends, and be nice to your parents. If you are nice to others, they will be nice to you. How…nice!

4) Be Safe

Regardless of your stance on guns, as soon as your kids start going to other people’s houses, you need to talk to them about gun safety.

Lots of people have guns in their homes and lots of people do not have them locked up. It is hard for children to understand how dangerous guns are. Tell them (more than once!) what they should do if one of their friends wants to show them a gun. Go through different “what if?” situations.

Teach them from a young age to listen to that little voice in their head. Tell them, “if something is telling you this doesn’t seem right, listen.” The same is true for alcohol, cigarettes, and a myriad of other scary and dangerous things.

It is important that your kids know what is acceptable and what is not and that you will always be proud of them for doing the right thing.

Make sure kids know your phone number and address!

5) Your Body Belongs to You

This one really ties in with the previous message about safety. While there are some discussions in elementary school classrooms about personal safety and good touch/bad touch, it’s not enough. Parents need to talk to kids about this, too.

Both boys and girls need to understand that their bodies are private and belong to them.

There is a very small group of people who should be allowed to see children naked.

Funny story: I forgot to mention to my kids that their pediatrician is someone who is on “the list” of approved people. My feisty little daughter just about kicked the poor doctor where it counts during her last well-child visit when he tried to pull her pants down a little bit to feel her belly. Oops!

If you’re wondering what unsafe situations for children look like, read this article about what constitutes abuse and when to report it.

6) Winning is Not That Important

We live in a competitive society. And let’s be honest, everyone likes to win more than they like to lose.

But winning isn’t the only point of competition. It breaks my heart to see kids in my son’s little league division (ages 9 and 10) already smashing bats on the ground, chucking gloves, and crying over a strikeout or a loss.

Allow your kids to lose at games and competitions (yes, I know that sounds mean) and teach them how to be a good sport.

Praise hard work, effort, and not throwing a fit when they lose.

Oh, and be a good example yourself!

7) Stand up for What You Know is Right

Teach your child to listen to that little voice in his or her head that tells them whether something is a good idea. And teach them to stick up for others who are being mistreated.

One of my proudest mom moments was when my 5-year-old daughter saw some kids being mean to her friend at the park and she marched right over to them, said, “You leave my friend alone!” and took her friend over to another part of the playground.

Do the right thing. Always.

8) Choose Good Friends

This is a tough one. Once your kids enter elementary school, they start to navigate the surprisingly tricky social world of childhood friendships.

I encourage my kids to have a lot of different friends.

While having a best friend sounds like a great idea, it’s really not when kids are young. Being completely wrapped up in one individual isn’t very healthy. If your child has a friend who they are getting into trouble with, try to get them to understand how that might not be good for them.

The more you can talk your kids through those situations (rather than telling them who they should and should not be friends with), the better off they will be in the long run (hopefully!).

9. Be Creative, Go Outside, Get Dirty

It saddens me to hear how many hours kids spend in front of screens. Video games have become a full-time job for so many.

While I enjoy playing the Wii as much as anyone (though my husband said I am about to be cut off because of my language when I play Mario Kart!), have limits. Take a family walk or a bike ride. Have a picnic at the park. Let your kids play in the mud. Plant a garden. Go catch frogs. Finger paint. You get the idea.

Again, you have to set a good example for this.

10) Do What You Can to Make Things Better in the World

While you shouldn’t expect your kids to be raising thousands of dollars for charity or volunteering every weekend, it’s never too early to plant the seed of doing good in the world.

If you give your kids allowance, have them save part of it in a giving jar. Offer to help a neighbor pull weeds. Pay it forward at the drive-thru. Stop to help someone who has dropped something. Again, when your kids see you doing good for others, they will do the same.

30 Manners Your Kids Should Know By Age 10

Spread the love

Good manners show that you value the feelings of others. Here are the 30 manners that your child should know by the age of 10.

  1. Saying “please” and “thank you.” It shows gratitude for the things others do for you.
  2. Making introductions. Always introduce yourself to adults who come visit, and introduce friends to each other.
  3. Covering your mouth when you sneeze or cough. Germs are gross!
  4. Not picking your nose in public. No one wants to see that.
  5. Greeting visitors and say goodbye to them. Even if you feel shy, greetings and goodbyes are important.
  6. Asking for things instead of reaching for them. It’s disruptive when children reach across the table during mealtimes.
  7. Knocking on doors before entering a room. Especially the bathroom door!
  8. Responding when an adult asks how you are. It’s even better if you ask her how she is, too.
  9. Not interrupting when grownups are talking. Wait for your turn, no matter how impatient you feel.
  10. Saying “Excuse me” when you need to interrupt a conversation. Sometimes it’s an emergency, but even so, please be polite.
  11. Saying “Excuse me” if you bump into someone. Make sure they know you didn’t do it on purpose.

Top 10 Good Manners for Kids

October 11, 2016

Good manners should be taught as soon as your child understands what you are saying. In addition, children should be taught good manners throughout the growing up period. It is best if you encourage your child when your child does something right. When your child does something wrong, do not punish him, but gently tell your child how best to do it and why. nine0003

Basic good manners for children are as follows:

1. Wait your turn and don’t interrupt other people when they are talking. No one will be heard if you speak in parallel with someone. Gently tell the child to wait while someone speaks, and then ask what the child would like to ask. Be sure to listen carefully to your child to reinforce a positive attitude towards waiting in line. While the child is waiting for their turn, put your hand on the child to verbally inform him that you know and remember his presence. nine0003

2. Do not give nicknames. Even if the child is having fun, labeling is painful and unpleasant. Explain to the children that this behavior is not to your liking and worries you.

3. Always greet someone when they come to your house. Depending on your level of formality, you can teach your child how to shake hands with adults or how to shake hands with other children. However, your child should always say “hello” or “hello”.

4. Say “please” and “thank you” often. This shows respect and appreciation. And for other adults, this will mean your good upbringing of the child. nine0003

5. Keep clean after yourself. Whether at home or at a friend’s house, children should always clean up after themselves. It’s their mess, so it’s up to them to make it clean. If the children are reluctant to clean up after themselves, then remind them not to move on to another game until the mess from the previous game is cleared up.

6. Behavior in sports. After the game (sports, cards, board games), regardless of the result, your child should behave culturally. If your child wins, explain that you can’t help but gloat or show off. If your child loses, explain not to sulk or get angry. nine0003

7. Accept compliments politely. If someone praises your children, teach your children to be calm and say “thank you” and not point out their shortcomings.

8. Open doors for others. When entering buildings, children usually let adults go first. If someone is following the child, then your child should hold the door so that it does not slam shut in the face of the person following. Also teach your children that if someone holds the door for them, then you need to say “thank you.”

9. Entry-exit etiquette. Elevators: before entering the elevator, allow people to exit it. The same with buildings or premises – if someone leaves a building or premises and you enter through the same door, you should let the people coming out ahead.

10. Respect differences. If people do things differently than your family because of diversity in culture, race, or religion, then teach your child respect. Point out that it’s interesting how different families do different things. Families have their own traditions and rituals – this is important and makes sense for this family. nine0003

Good manners to teach your children

Parenting and care > Good manners to teach your children

All parents want their children to be well-mannered and polite, but do not always pay due attention to instilling etiquette. Teaching children good manners is not easy, but very necessary and responsible work. nine0042

Politeness and good manners make our lives easier and more comfortable. Agree, living in a world where even strangers are polite to each other is much more pleasant. In addition, good manners acquired from childhood help children feel more confident, because they know exactly what to say, how to act and what is expected of them in specific situations.

Basic rules of conduct to teach a child

Say hello

Children are different – some are more sociable, and at the age of three they kindly shake hands when meeting, others are shy, and it is difficult for them to make contact with unfamiliar people. And that’s okay. However, children from preschool age should be able to say hello politely. In addition, children are usually welcomed first – this behavior is a sign of friendliness and respect for the interlocutor.

Say “thank you” and “please”

It is with these words that a well-bred child is usually associated. Thanking and politely asking children are taught from the cradle, and rightly so. But besides memorization, it is worth paying attention to explanation, because sometimes children just “on the machine” say these words, not understanding their significance.

Being punctual

Making people wait is impolite. After all, being late without a good reason is a manifestation of disrespect, which seems to say: “My time is more important than yours. Wait for me while I do more interesting things.” nine0003

Of course, children don’t make important appointments, why would they need punctuality? Let’s consider a situation where a four-year-old promised to put away toys after watching a cartoon. But the time is up and the promise is not fulfilled.

We discussed how to help children navigate in time in the article: “Forget about tantrums: how to teach a child to be patient?”

Or another situation – a schoolboy asked to go for a walk with friends, or to stay for an hour after school. Would you like it to arrive on time, and not after ten missed and a few angry texts? nine0003

Teach your children to be punctual, because they will definitely need respect for other people’s time.

Apologize

An apology is a social arrangement between two people when one admits his mistake and promises to improve. At least that’s how we adults understand it. But children don’t have that perception of the situation. Without a proper explanation, the child will simply say “I’m sorry”, insulting someone, without the necessary conclusions and behavioral adjustments. If it’s easier, then do what you want, just say “I’m sorry” later. nine0003

In addition to apologizing, the child should ask if he can somehow help, correct the consequences of his action. It is social responsibility for one’s actions.

Do not interrupt

Children are naturally impatient, but as they grow older they will still have to learn the skill of patience. Explain to the baby that preventing a person from finishing his thought is impolite and rude. If the child does this automatically, tell him, “Please don’t interrupt. Let me finish.” nine0003

Do not take other people’s things

Children should not take other people’s things without permission. You must first ask, and only if allowed, take. This applies not only to the things of strangers. Each family member, including the child, has personal belongings, and it is always necessary to ask permission before taking anything.

Return everything to its place

A glass of water that the child took to his room, other people’s or his toys after the game – everything must be returned to its place. You are not one of those mothers who always like to clean everything and after everyone? Believe me, organization will definitely come in handy for your child. nine0003

Sharing sweets and toys

First of all, it should be noted that no one is obliged to share anything. Only at your own request. You can’t force a child to share a chocolate among all family members, but it’s worth emphasizing that it is customary in your family to share and treat each other.

As for toys, a child may refuse to give a new doll to a strange girl on the playground. But if another child came to visit, it is impolite to tell him: “Don’t touch my toys.” nine0003

Respect personal boundaries

Knocking before entering someone else’s room, asking permission to take someone else’s thing, respecting other people’s opinions is respect for personal boundaries. It is just as important to teach a child to respect other people’s boundaries as it is to respect his own.

More on this subject can be found in the article: “Personal Boundaries: How to teach your child to define and protect them”

Offer help

When your four-year-old son offers to help you carry a bag of groceries from the store, or your daughter vacuums the room while you iron the laundry, a feeling of real happiness of motherhood covers.

Care for close people should be instilled. Often children offer their help even when they are not able to do so. At the age of 3-4 years, children want to be like adults, do adult things, and so that later, in the future, children do not lose interest – do not refuse their help now.

Behave in public places

Cafes, restaurants, shops, cinemas are places where parents and children are under the supervision of others. And although there is now a growing level of tolerance for mothers and children’s whims in public, you still want to protect yourself from such an experience. Or at least minimize it.

“Mom, don’t you see that your child eats from the plate with his hands?”, “Why did you come to the cinema if your child doesn’t know how to behave?”. What mother would love to hear that? nine0003

To avoid awkward situations, teach your child how to behave in public places.

Observe telephone etiquette

The last point also applies to adults. In the modern world, we spend almost 70% of our time with our phone in our hands. And the remaining 30% – sleep. So where should kids learn about phone etiquette?

The main rule is not to be distracted by the phone if there is a person next to you with whom you can communicate. This refers to a friend, acquaintance, family member. Otherwise, you demonstrate that nothing but this gadget matters to you. That the person who is next to you is less important than any little thing that you do while looking at the screen of your smartphone. nine0003

Effective methods to teach your child good manners easily

“What a well-mannered child! What good manners he has” – all parents would like to hear this addressed to their son or daughter. Knowledge of etiquette, courtesy, goodwill, the ability to think about others and take into account their interests, everything that is meant by good breeding is something that is laid down from childhood and remains for life.

But instilling good manners is not as easy as it might seem at first glance. We offer you 5 effective ways to teach your child good manners. nine0003

Own example

Education begins with one’s own example. You can talk 24/7 to your child about the importance of good manners and their importance, but your baby looks at you and acts like you. Therefore, reread the basic rules of behavior above, add to them those that you want to teach your child, and start following them.

But this is not enough. Usually young children do not behave politely, but yell or even show aggression when they want something. It is necessary to stop such behavior with reason, for example, “Don’t shout. I’m sorry, but I won’t give you this toy because you don’t ask politely”, “What are the magic words to say when asking for something?” nine0003

Role play

Model several situations in which your child can demonstrate good manners. Imagine that you do not know each other: stretch out your hand to the child and ask what his name is and how he is doing. Be the kid on the playground and line up for the slide to show your child that you don’t have to push on the steps. Also, play with the crumbs in the supermarket: let him drive the cart, and every time he needs to apologize when he needs to pass other customers. nine0003

Act out similar situations with dolls and toys.

The Carrot Method

Some parents, tired of their children’s misbehavior, often resort to manipulation and threats. “If you don’t share toys, then no one will be friends with you,” “I don’t need your apologies, I see that you don’t really regret it.” What will be the result of such manipulations – fear, guilt? Is it better to focus on the positives?

Do not threaten with punishment or instill a sense of guilt for this or that misconduct – just tell the child that new doors open for well-mannered and polite people, thanks to good manners they will want to make friends with him. And it will be much easier to negotiate with adults, which means getting what you want.

Conversations

Discuss all situations with your child. Children often notice the bad behavior of other children. Ask them what they think they should do, what words to use, and how the situation would have ended if the child had been polite and reserved. Let your child model scenarios and work through different situations and their possible consequences. nine0003

Practice

All theoretical knowledge must be consolidated in practice. Arrange family dinners, because this is a good opportunity to consolidate the rules of behavior at the table. Go together to a children’s cafe, and let your child make an order on their own. Gently correct the child if he does something wrong. No need to be nervous, angry or yell at your child, because he is just learning.

The same goes for behavior in the supermarket: you can achieve good behavior only after practice. nine0003

Sometimes kind and polite people at any age are at risk of becoming victims of arrogant and persistent personalities, because they were taught to be polite and caring, but not taught to refuse.

Play As You Learn

  • Physical well-being and motor development
  • Social and emotional development
  • Language and literacy development
  • Cognitive development
  • Summer Camp
  • Extracurricular activities

Background

For Kid’s Sake Early Learning Center was formed because of the growing need for infant, toddler, and pre-school early education in the Livingston County area.   For Kid’s Sake is licensed for 42 children.  The director is on site daily to provide guidance and supervision for the teachers and as a resource for families as well.

Culture

Going forward, For Kids Sake will grow to triple its square footage.  This expansion to our environments will support a larger variety of safe, healthy, high quality materials including updated technology and equipment.  We will thrilled to loosen the reigns of our waiting list to allow more families to be connected to our exclusive community. Additionally, children will be able to participate in year round extra curriculars such as dance, karate, yoga & gymnastics.

Staff will enjoy mostly, the paycheck of the heart that comes from their sincere love for young children.  Past that they will appreciate recognition for the creativity that they bring to teaching, they will be supported in their desire to be lifetime learners and they will reap the monetary benefits that meet the needs of their lifestyle.

Philosophy

FKS believes in a play based learning environment and it uses Creative Curriculum as the program that supports its efforts.  Learning in our space and using these resources encourages both child-initiated and teacher-directed activities. The role of a teacher is to provide developmentally appropriate programming, assess growth, support, educate & communicate with parents.  Their role also includes ensuring that the children’s learning environment is clean, safe and stimulating.

Our Care is the BEST available! WHY are we WORTH IT ?!

For Kids Sake Early Learning Center will have its 17th birthday this year! FKS survived the horrible economy of 2008 and  a building relocation in 2009. Now we are working to survive the pandemic in 2022. After each challenge, we came out BETTER and this time is NO different! We are looking forward to the growth and its growing pains now and in the next 17 years ahead. Thank you for being on our path!

Here are some of the quality standards and adaptations that have been put in place to assure that you continue to have the most high quality care for your child(ren)/family.

  • Competitive pay to assure that we have highly trained and consistent staff.
  • Collaborative overlapping meeting/training/planning time for staff to ensure organization.
  • Lower (than State recommended) teacher/child ratios assure that children are getting an increase in teaching time. Infants being in a 2/1 ratio is an unheard of practice in child care.
  • Additional staff scheduled to do health screening upon arrival and perform additional cleaning and toy rotation duties daily.
  • Additional staff scheduled to provide simplicity of drop off and pick up at the door.
  • The addition of a, “real” sink into the preschool space (previously we had a portable that was cumbersome & unreliable).
  • Additional dispensers/stations for soap, paper towel & hand sanitizer.
  • Childrens rest time bedding being provided and laundered weekly by FKS.
  • Home made, healthy snacks provided that include fruits and vegetables each day. Milk & bottled water provided readily.
  • Childcare software as an added convenience for parents to be paperless and have child information at your fingertips. Developmental milestones are being tracked and recorded and pictures of real time activities shared.
  • Recognizing NAEYC (National Association of the Education of Young Children) Accreditation Standards and implementing components as a higher quality of care and well being for young children.
  • Weekly at home learning activity suggestions.
  • As we know Phase 3 at this time, you can count on FKS to remain open for approved workers.
  • 3x per week Zoom meetings for pre-schoolers and 1x per week Zoom meetings for school age while we were all away and in the case that we go back to Phase 2.
