In Rochester, the question of building a spectacular structure was discussed for a good ten years. We were looking for a site in the city center and money for the implementation of the idea, and finally decided. For 230 million dollars, it was decided to build a conglomerate in which, in addition to the theater, there will be an educational college building and a bus terminal. Moshe Safdie was invited as the author.

Rochester, NY is home to the massive Strong National Museum of Play, a children’s museum with a wide variety of toys on display. http://www.museumofplay.org/collections/online/

Based on the personal collection of Margaret Woodbury Strong, Smithsonian affiliate museum. It is the second largest children’s museum in the US, and the only one dedicated to the study of play.
The Museum’s more than 500,000 exhibits include the world’s largest collection of dolls and toys, the most complete collection of homecrafts and gifts.

    History of Electronic Games).

The new collection is located on the premises of the Strong National Museum of Play. The number of its exhibits is amazing – 15 thousand. This includes games, hardware, slot machines, flyers and posters, drawings and sketches, and a fair amount of documents from business intelligence to design documents and specifications.
Its organizers say it is “the only collection created solely for the study and understanding of the nature of the game,” says Compulenta.
The organizers paid special attention to how video games have affected the lifestyle of ordinary Americans: this part features ordinary toys, books, comics and much more.
Of particular interest is the hardware section. Collected together, the exhibits represent, for example, the complete history of game consoles, starting from the very first consoles that saw the light of day in 1972 year. Not ignored and pocket consoles. In total, over a hundred different devices can be seen at the exhibition. Here is the super-famous NES, and real exotics like the pocket Milton Bradley Microvision and the 8-bit Vectrex with a vector graphics monitor.

The organizers plan to open an exposition called “The Revolutionary World of Electronic Entertainment”, which will start operating in 2012.

    Photo: vnru.ru

To support the residents of Veliky Novgorod in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, members of the Linkages Friendship Society from Rochester (New York, USA) made a video and posted it on the YouTube platform. This was reported on the website of the city hall.

Self-isolation, both in America and in Russia, resists the coronavirus pandemic. The main idea of the message is the hope that, despite the fact that we cannot visit each other now, we believe that the time will come, we will overcome the pandemic and be together again. Take care of each other!

“The first contacts between the residents of Rochester and Novgorod started 30 years ago. Official sister city ties were established on July 16, 1990. The city twinning agreement has an unlimited duration. An important role in strengthening ties between our cities is played by the organization Linkagez (Friendship Society), President Paul Kakamis (former Presidents Dick Fitts, Gaylin Mitchell, Joseph Gersitz). The Linkagez organization provides assistance in replenishing the fund of the library center “Chitai-Gorod” in Veliky Novgorod with books in English. The name of the world-famous composer and musician SV Rakhmaninov also connects our cities. His childhood years passed in Novgorod, and he is buried in the state of New York. In 2010, lilac, Rachmaninov’s favorite flower, was delivered to Veliky Novgorod from Rochester, USA, a city where the lilac festival is held annually and has the largest collection of these flowers. During the visit 16-19May 2013, great-granddaughter S.V. Rachmaninoff by Mrs. Natalie Wanamaker Xavier, seedlings were planted in the square of SV Rachmaninov. In 2013, a working visit of representatives of the “Landscape Workshop” partnership to Rochester took place as part of the implementation of the joint project “ Lilac Garden in Veliky Novgorod will be!” “. Lilac seedlings of American varieties were again brought to Veliky Novgorod for planting them in the lilac garden of Veliky Novgorod. In 2015, the Rochester delegation took part in the festive events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. At present, an exchange of schoolchildren and teachers has been established between Rochester and Veliky Novgorod (gymnasium No. 1), personal contacts between residents of our cities,” the administration of Veliky Novgorod reminded.
