Gem care
Caring for precious stones
All jewelry needs care. Taking a few extra minutes to clean your jewelry will prolong its life and improve its appearance.
Essential tips for caring for gemstone jewelry.
Be careful.
The most important care advice is careful and careful handling. Your jewelry should be the last thing you put on, especially after applying hairspray, perfume, and cosmetics. Remove jewelry on the contrary, should be the first. Check all clasps before putting your jewelry away. It is also strongly discouraged to wear jewelry in situations where it may be exposed to high / low temperatures, harsh chemicals, or may interact with rough surfaces.
Handle with care.
After removing your jewelry, it is recommended to wipe each piece with a clean, soft, slightly damp cloth to remove dirt, dust and oil. To prevent scratches on the gemstone when interacting with other jewelry, each piece of jewelry should be stored separately, or each piece should be wrapped in a soft cloth. Never store diamond jewelry with other jewelry, as diamonds can easily scratch other stones and surfaces.
Clean regularly.
Regular cleaning of your gemstones is the most effective way to keep your gems looking their best. However, not all gemstones should be cleaned in the same way. Even plain soapy water can be harmful to some gemstones. Some stones are very sensitive to certain chemicals, others are very vulnerable to heat or cold.
Below is a table for choosing the right care for each particular gemstone.

Care of natural stones | Masters Fair Magazine
Today I want to talk about the proper care of natural stones! In my work, I use a lot of natural stones, and I am well aware of the proper care for them. In my practice, there were such cases when buyers complained over time that jewelry lost its original appearance. We managed to restore them, but there were cases when we had to use the miracles of our technology and restore them.
To prevent this from happening, you need to treat your jewelry with tenderness. There are also professional secrets, which I will now tell you about!
Precious and semi-precious stones need care. Moreover, each gem has its own characteristics of storage and cleaning. For the right choice of care methods, first of all, you need to know the chemical properties of your gem. And if you treat it with attention, it will delight you with its beauty and useful properties for a long time. Compliance with the rules of wearing and storing jewelry is no less important than the right care. Depending on the properties of the material from which the jewelry is made, the care for them varies.
Attention: Stones such as turquoise, opals, and other stones of organic origin: pearls, amber, mother-of-pearl, corals, ammonites, petrified wood require the greatest care in cleaning. They cannot be cleaned with washing powders, they cannot be exposed to bleaches, soda, ether, sulfates cannot be used for cleaning.
Amber is one of the most delicate and soft stones used in jewelry. It is fragile and requires careful handling and care. It is desirable to store amber in a separate jewelry box, in order to protect it from contact with metals and other materials, it is better to store each amber product in a separate bag or wrapped in a soft cloth. Protect amber jewelry from exposure to not only too high, but also too low temperatures. Temperature fluctuations are especially harmful for amber. You can not keep amber near heating devices and direct sunlight.
Amber is very sensitive to chemicals, so apply hairspray and perfume about 10 minutes before putting on amber jewelry, remove amber jewelry before washing dishes and laundry, store amber away from substances such as lard and butter, and an ultrasonic cleaner and a steam generator are not suitable for cleaning amber, they will simply destroy it. Also, do not allow amber to come into contact with other jewelry cleaners and alcohol. Failure to comply with these conditions can lead to the formation of a whitish coating on amber, which will remain forever. You can remove dirt, dust and sweat from an amber product with a flannel cloth soaked in mild soapy and slightly warm water. To polish amber and give it a shine, moisten a soft cloth with olive oil and rub the jewelry, remembering to then remove the excess oil with a dry, clean cloth.
If you follow certain rules for wearing, storing and cleaning amber products, the brilliance and beauty of amber products will please you for a long time.
Turquoise is one of the oldest pieces of jewelry, with many legends and many ways to care for it. Animal fat has a very beneficial effect on turquoise, and vegetable fat harms turquoise. Turquoise is an unstable compound, over time it also loses its original color, it reacts especially painfully to soap and fats. Turquoise is porous, easily absorbs fats, aromatic substances and under their influence can change color. When washing hands, it is better to remove rings with turquoise. Jewelry and decorations are also sensitive to cosmetics, hairspray, powder, perfume, deodorants, sunscreen and so on. In addition, jewelry should be protected from vapours, greases and oils. And this applies to pearls in the first place.
Pearls are very moisture-loving, with a lack of moisture, they fade and crack over time, also the enemy of pearls is high temperature, bright sunlight, polluted air, as well as our perfumes, creams and other cosmetics, where all sorts of fragrances are present. Pearls can be washed in a neutral solution of shampoo and warm water, and then rinsed with running water, you can also clean the pearls with potato starch, this helps to remove excess moisture and dirt. Pearls contain organic matter that can dry out and decompose, so pearls have a certain lifespan, then they fade, delaminate, and collapse. However, when properly stored, pearls do not lose their beauty for many hundreds of years. First of all, in order for pearls not to age, they must be worn. Pearls need to be looked after, even if you haven’t worn them for a long time. Old pearls, if treated with a weak solution of hydrochloric or acetic acid, will look better. It is advisable to store pearls in a special case or wrapped in a soft cloth separately from other jewelry and metal objects.
Opal is an amorphous stone, it cannot stay in the sun for a long time – it dehydrates, loses its iridescence, becomes milky white, and opal also does not like sudden temperature changes, which can cause cracking due to the large amount of moisture contained in the opal . Natural opals contain 6-10% water. Such a high water content in opal is due to the porous structure of this stone. This means that opals easily absorb not only moisture, but also perfumes, hairsprays, cosmetics, which, over time, damages this stone. Opals are not very hard stones like diamonds, so they should be protected from impact and abrasive materials; clean only in a soapy solution, as well as amber – ultrasonic and steam treatment is contraindicated for opal. To maintain the necessary moisture, prevent cracking and dehydration, opal jewelry is smeared from time to time with a soft cloth with a small amount of glycerin.
In addition to turquoise, opal and pearls, ruby, blue topaz, garnet and some other tinted or artificially irradiated stones lose their color in bright sunlight, so jewelry with them should be stored in the dark and preferably in a jewelry box. There are recommendations for various stones for all occasions: amethysts, ametrines, aquamarines, garnets, peridots, topazes, tourmalines, citrines are suitable for everyday wear, but you should avoid direct sunlight, heat and contact with chemicals that can change color.
If the stone in your jewelry is somewhat dull and has lost its luster, it must be cleaned and accumulated dirt removed. Jewelry with stones with a hardness factor of at least 5 (diamond, sapphire, emerald, ruby) can be cleaned in a solution of any washing powder with a soft brush – but only if the metal of the jewelry is gold, platinum, radiated silver. Jewelry with topazes, citrines and others can be washed in warm soapy water (1/2 cup) with the addition of ammonia (1 teaspoon). Diamonds, rubies, sapphires are well cleaned in a solution: 100 g of warm water, 25 g of baking soda, 10 g of bleach, 6 g of table salt, then rinse in clean water and wipe with a flannel. To prevent dark spots from contact with wet skin on gold jewelry, remove the jewelry and wipe it with suede or flannel.
Clean your jewelry as often as possible, it is advisable to keep your jewelry well under running water after each day of wearing, because in addition to organic and non-organic impurities, the negative energy received by us during the day will disappear with water (the stones take away the negative energy directed at us and if they are not rinsed with running water for a long time, they can crack and from this). The most convenient and safest way to care for gemstone jewelry is to use special “jewelry cosmetics”. A wide range of various cleaning products (liquids, foams, wipes) are now being produced, designed to care for all types of natural stones and gold, platinum and silver alloys.
Child Care Access and Affordability for Missouri’s Working Families
The COVID-19 recession has been labeled a “she-cession” because of its disproportionate impact on women. But perhaps a more accurate—albeit less catchy—term would be “mom-cession.” Research from the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta found that mothers of young children (under age 6) accounted for a disproportionate share of COVID-19-related employment loss. Yet mothers continue to comprise a sizable portion of the workforce. In Missouri, over a quarter of the prime-age workforce comprises mothers of minors, and 39% of them are mothers of young children.
Access to quality, affordable child care supports mothers’ ability to work, pay bills and stay housed; increases Missouri’s tax revenue; and helps make Missouri a state in which the workforce, families and children can thrive.
Severe Lack of Access, Particularly for Younger Children
Child care is critically tied to workforce participation, particularly for mothers, who must often make trade-offs between care and work. Mothers in the U.S. have much lower labor force participation rates when their children are young (during both pandemic and non-pandemic times), whereas the age of the children has little effect on fathers’ labor force participation. Notwithstanding, in Missouri, more than two-thirds of households with young children have all parents who are present in the household in the labor force, indicating that the availability of child care is important for the economy. Indeed, in the U.S., family responsibilities and the inability to arrange child care were the top two reasons why mothers of young children who wanted jobs weren’t looking for them in 2021.
Despite evidence that early childhood education is important for the current and future well-being of children, families and the economy, that care is hard to find. More than half (54%) of Missourians live in a child care desert, meaning they are in an area that has either no child care providers or so few options that there are more than three times as many children as licensed child care slots. This is especially true of rural and low-income areas, limiting opportunities for economic advancement for mothers and fathers in these locations. Moreover, the vast majority of center-based providers do not operate between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., making it that much more difficult for parents of young children to accept jobs with long hours or shift work.
As a country, we fund our children’s education with free, universal public schooling beginning at kindergarten. But preschool-age children, just one to two years younger, are underserved, with only 9% of 3- and 4-year-old Missourians attending public preschool. Younger children face similar difficulties with access. The Office of Head Start’s Performance Indicator Report states that Early Head Start programs, which serve children under age 3 who are in poverty, reach only 7% of eligible Missourians. The National Institute for Early Education Research found that while Missouri improved access to preschool programs in 2020, it still ranked in the bottom half of states in terms of access and spending per child.
The ROI on Early Care and Education Investments
Investing in our most vulnerable citizens—young children, particularly those who are disadvantaged—is both equitable and economically efficient. Research points out that the first few years of life, during which vast amounts of learning occur, are the most critical, because children gain valuable social and cognitive skills. Furthermore, socioeconomic and racial achievement gaps present in kindergarten begin with preparation gaps. For example, a Springfield, Mo., Kindergarten Readiness Study found that “51.1% of students who did not attend a formal preschool were reported as ‘not ready’ [for kindergarten] as compared to 17.8% of their preschool-attending peers” in 2018.
Children from lower-income families have less access to high-quality early care and education, putting them at a disadvantage early in life. In fact, market rates are unaffordable for most American families, meaning that more than 7% of the family’s annual income is spent on child care, the federal standard for affordability. The average cost of center-based infant child care in Missouri was $9,880 in 2020, according to Child Care Aware of America. This was nearly 12% of the median income for a married family, but 40% of the median income of a single parent. Even with subsidies (which reach one in six eligible families) and providers charging less than the true cost of care, this expense remains burdensome, hampering economic stability and making economic mobility all but impossible.
While early care and education are often treated as private concerns, research has shown that public returns from quality early childhood development programs are even larger than personal returns: Research from the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, economist James Heckman and others suggests a $7 to $13 return per $1 invested. Potential future returns are large, but they could have more immediate effects as well through parents’ workforce participation. According to estimates from the Economic Policy Institute, capping child care at 7% of income could expand Missouri’s economy by $2. 8 billion. Moreover, returns on investment are larger the earlier they are made. Yet, the U.S. spent 0.3% of gross domestic product in 2017—less than half the average of other industrialized countries—on early care and education, according to a report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Investing in the Present and Future of Missouri
Missourians recognize the wide-ranging benefits of child care. For example, the Show Me Strong Recovery Task Force 2022 recommendations include improving child care availability and affordability to help support small businesses. Early childhood programs in Missouri were consolidated under a single Office of Childhood in early 2021 to streamline agencies, with the recognition that these programs are important for children’s well-being and success and for the future workforce.
Prioritizing quality child care today may facilitate the betterment of Missourians tomorrow. Researchers have studied a number of considerations that may be implemented or expanded to support working mothers and their families, including to:
increase funding for quality early care and education programs,
address benefit cliffs that hinder economic mobility,
increase child care subsidy funds and access,
expand access to play-based, public prekindergarten programs,
offer child care at work and reimbursement for emergency child care,
introduce flexible work schedules, and
offer pretax benefit accounts for dependent care.

The main campus of the university is located on the waterfront of the Mississippi River, five minutes from the Gates of the West – America’s tallest monument and the hallmark of the city. Just as St. Louis served as the last stop for pioneers on their way to the Pacific coast in search of a better life, SLU itself has served as a gateway to the future for students for 200 years.
St. Louis is a metropolitan area with a population of 2.8 million, 3 airports and the MetroLink light rail system. The city is located in the central part of the United States: by plane in 3 hours you can fly to Los Angeles, 2 – to New York and less than an hour – to Chicago. In summer it is hot enough to swim, and in winter you can see snow. St. Louis has the most beautiful parks and many free museums with rich collections, a zoo, a botanical garden, a planetarium, and the luxurious Fox Theater.
Graduates have ample opportunities for employment. The city is home to the headquarters of Fortune Global 500 companies such as Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser beer), Monsanto (Roundup herbicide) and pharmaceutical Express Scripts.
The campus covers an area of 95 hectares and includes more than 130 buildings and structures, including 4 libraries, the Clock Tower, academic buildings, a 10-story state-of-the-art research center, dormitories, and sports facilities. In the last 20 years alone, investments in the material and technical base of SLU amounted to 840 million dollars.
The second campus of the university is located in Madrid (Spain).

Guide to Running a Legal Home Business in New York City
Whether you’re baking pies to sell, caring for children and pets, or setting up an apiary on your loft roof hoping to sell your own honey at a local farmers’ market, running a home business in New York York is a tricky business. However, knowing the rules and following them, you can easily become a successful entrepreneur.
There are many circumstances in which a home based business is legal, but there are many city and state regulations that must be strictly adhered to. If you are caught running an illegal home business or a business that is not fully compliant, you can easily find yourself without a source of income, facing eviction and heavy fines. We have compiled for you a list of the main points that you should pay attention to before starting your own home business.
njsbdc.com
The City of New York clearly states that “working from home may be legal,” but there are caveats. The document states: “As a general rule, your household occupation (as defined in Zoning Resolution §12-10) may not occupy more than 25% of the residence (no more than 500 square feet) and no employee may work in your residence.” . Chances are if you rent or own property in any of the five boroughs, you are in a residential zoned building and will be subject to the 25% rule. To confirm, visit NYC Planning and enter your current address into the search engine at the bottom of the page.
6sqft.com
Once you have confirmed whether you can use all 100% or only up to 25% of your home for business purposes, you will need to confirm that your preferred business is eligible. In this case, things get more complicated. If you are a freelance writer, editor or web designer, you have nothing to worry about. Whether you run a bakery, babysit, bee or chicken farm, there are additional rules you need to know. To demonstrate this, let’s look at just a few common home business scenarios.
6sqft.com
It’s not uncommon for New Yorkers to run a home-cooked bakery, but before you put on your chef’s hat, you need to make sure your home cooking business complies with local regulations. If you are going to bake cookies, bread, flan or cakes, you are running a home business. If you want to make cheesecakes, you’re out of luck, cheesecakes don’t fit the category you want. Also, candy is generally allowed to be made, but not chocolate. Likewise with strawberry jam, which complies with local standards and regulations, but pickles and salsa do not.
6sqft.com
In fact, if your dream business involves anything that requires refrigeration, including cheese, yogurt, dairy, meat, poultry, fish, and even cooked or canned vegetables, you may need to rethink your business. plan. However, even if the type of food you intend to produce is on the approved list, you must apply for a “Home Processor” license with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, and that’s just Start. If you plan to wholesale your products, you will also need to register as a wholesale business, obtain a Food Protection Certificate and a Sales Tax Vendor Registration.
tastemade.com
If you’re cooking at home, you’ll also need to make sure all your equipment, storage space, and waste disposal equipment are in top shape as home cooking businesses are regularly inspected. Finally, keep in mind that if you are running a home cooking business, you will need to purchase additional insurance as your home insurance may not be suitable.
comptroller.nyc.gov
As stated on the New York State Office of Children and Families website: “Any day care center that plans to regularly serve three or more children for more than three hours a day must obtain a license or certificate of registration. To receive this certification, the applicant must show that the day care program meets the requirements set by the state to ensure the health and safety of children in care.” Remember that in order to qualify, you need to provide proof that you and your home are able to take in children on a daily basis. Among the many requirements, this means being fingerprinted (details on the Division of Child Care Services website). While the process may seem intimidating, New York State offers services in English and Spanish to help child care providers navigate the enrollment process, free online orientation courses, and, in some cases, financial incentives.

Two hundred years ago, farming was common even in Manhattan. Today, if you want to do any type of agricultural activity, you’d better move to the upstate. But there are several micro-farming activities that can be done legally in the city’s five boroughs. In most cases, growing microgreens on your rooftop and selling at your local farmers’ market is legal, as long as you can prove that your rooftop garden complies with local building codes. Once illegal, home apiaries got the green light back in 2010 and are now thriving across town, but be sure to register your hive. Unregistered hives are heavily fined.
natureswayfarm. com
If you want to grow creatures larger than bees, you have several options. You can raise chickens on your rooftop or in your backyard (roosters and other poultry from geese to turkeys are not allowed). So if you’re hoping to get into poultry farming, you’ll be limited to chickens, but don’t think you can sell their eggs. Technically, you can keep chickens in New York, but only as pets. Other farm animals, including sheep, goats and pigs, are not allowed either as pets or as livestock. So what’s an urban farmer to do? To get started, get in touch with experts from Brooklyn Grange who will confirm that it is legal to conduct agribusiness in New York.

The surest way to kill any home business is to quarrel with your neighbors. If you cook loudly until 3am or have a constant stream of visitors coming and going from your apartment at any time of the day or night, expect your neighbors to complain. A horde of toddlers or adult customers stomping on the floor is also unlikely to improve your relationship with your neighbors. As a general rule, be careful. If you know your neighbors, share your business plans before clients start showing up at your house. Getting permission from your landlord or management company is also highly recommended. Finally, if you live in a co-op, expect further hurdles from that side. You can get a license to run a home-based childcare business, but if you live in a co-op, it will ultimately be up to your co-op board to decide whether you can run the business.
Because every home business is unique and the number of regulations affecting a home business can be intimidating, complete the Business Wizard in New York before starting to develop a business plan. This step-by-step tool will ask you basic questions about your proposed home business and provide links describing the various registration steps and processes you need to complete prior to starting your own business. The site also offers additional information, including helpful tips about citywide programs designed to support home business owners.

Due to an ammonia leak from an explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, the state of Texas decided to evacuate the population within a one mile radius of the scene. Ammonia (hydrogen nitride) is a colorless gas with a pungent odor, which, according to its physiological action, belongs to the group of substances with an asphyxiant and neurotropic effect.
Photo: AP
Ammonia vapor causes profuse lacrimation, pain in the eyes, chemical burns of the conjunctiva and cornea, loss of vision, coughing spells, redness and itching of the skin. When liquefied ammonia and its solutions come into contact with the skin, a burning sensation occurs, a chemical burn with blisters and ulcerations is possible. nine0003
Earlier it became known that the city authorities are afraid of another explosion at the chemical plant. A large container of ammonia remained at the fertilizer plant, which could explode at any time and virtually destroy the city, reports CNN.
Recall that late on April 17 at a chemical plant located 19 miles from the city of Waco in Texas, there was a strong fire. It was followed by a massive explosion that was felt within a radius of 15 miles. The explosion intensified the fire. One of the ammonia tanks caught fire, and the fire spread to the nursing home and West’s school. nine0003
According to preliminary data, up to 70 people died, about 200 were injured. The condition of 40 victims is assessed as critical. In addition, the explosion destroyed up to 100 houses, including a residential complex with 50 apartments. Note that about 2.8 thousand people live in West.

There are many differences between Ded Moroz and his colleague, Santa Claus. Hundreds of articles have been written about it and many films have been released. But there is still one thing in common between Santa and Santa Claus – they give joy to children and adults. Let’s look at Santa Clauses from all over the world. Sometimes they can do quite ordinary things: for example, swim in the pool or cheer for their favorite football team.

FAQs for Reading Tutors
How much do reading tutors cost in 2022?
The average rate on Care.com for a reading tutor as of December, 2022 is $18.85 per hour. The cost may vary depending on the tutor’s years of experience, level of education, your location, and the student’s individual needs. The tutor’s rate will also vary if you chose to have a one-on-one private reading lesson or if they have multiple students sharing the same tutoring session.
Can I find private reading tutors on Care.com?
Most tutors can provide private reading sessions held at home and paid by the hour. You can search for a reading tutor near your area that matches your needs and coordinate a schedule that works for both of you.
How do I know if my child needs a reading tutor?
Your child may benefit from having a reading tutor if you notice that he or she is having difficulty reading and gets frustrated easily. A typical sign is when his or her grades are falling behind the rest of the class. In some cases, a few one-on-one sessions with a reading specialist will help the child to get back on track and regain his or her reading confidence.
If your child also has difficulty writing, it might be a better option to consider hiring an English tutor instead.

How it works: All the tutors at GoPeer are students at top colleges. They know that no two people learn the same way and that most students benefit from learning things in more than one way. GoPeer’s online tutors use a virtual whiteboard and other tools to tailor one-on-one instruction based on a learner’s strengths and needs.
Cost: $20 per hour. You can also apply for free tutoring from volunteer tutors.
Keep in mind: The $20 per hour is on top of a monthly fee. You can pay the monthly fee as you go, at a rate of $25 per month. Or pay for a year all at once at a rate that averages out to $12.50 per month.
4. Learn to Be
How it works: This nonprofit offers free, one-on-one, online tutoring to underserved students. The tutors at Learn to Be are volunteers who are background checked. Students tend to have one or two tutoring sessions a week.
Cost: Free
Keep in mind: Applicants are accepted based on financial need. The application includes questions about household income and free or reduced-price lunch.
5. Power Hour at the Boys and Girls Club of America
How it works: This afterschool program helps kids and teens with homework. In some locations, the Power Hour program includes one-on-one tutoring. Tutors and volunteers are trained to identify and help students with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences.
Cost: Free to Boys and Girls Club members. Membership fees are different for different clubs. Some charge $5 a year. Some charge $50 a year. Financial assistance is available.
Keep in mind: Not all clubs offer tutoring as part of the Power Hour program.
6. Varsity Tutors
How it works: Online options include one-on-one tutoring and interactive group classes. You can search Varsity Tutors for tutors certified in subjects, like phonics and executive functioning, that may be especially helpful for your child.
Cost: Large classes are free. Some small group classes cost more than others. For example, a phonics class costs $15 an hour. An Orton–Gillingham (OG) reading class costs $37 an hour or more. (That’s pretty steep, but a one-on-one session with a certified reading specialist is likely to cost a lot more online or in-person.)
Keep in mind: Tutoring prices aren’t listed on the site. You need to call or fill out a form to get that information.
7. YMCA
How it works: Some YMCA locations offer a lot of academic support. For example, some North Carolina chapters offer Y Learning. The YMCA of Central New York has an Academic Support Program. In both places, certified teachers provide homework help and group instruction in core subjects like language arts and math.
Cost: Some academic-support programs are free to all kids. Some charge a fee to non-members. Some YMCA locations also offer private tutoring for a fee.
Keep in mind: Not all YMCA locations offer these kinds of academic support.
8. Your local library
How it works: Many public libraries offer free homework help. They partner with sites like Tutor.com to give free one-on-one help from a live, online tutor. You’ll need your library card and an internet connection. Some libraries also offer free one-on-one tutoring in person.
Cost: Free
Keep in mind: Some libraries don’t offer online tutoring. Andsome offer it, but it’s hard to find on their website. Call your local library to ask for help.

Reviews
Alena, does math
I study at home and improve basic math. In the 9th grade, I fell into triples, and this year I realized that I wouldn’t pass at all without help. I study with Elena, how she still tolerates me, I don’t know))) But I see progress! I can’t draw on the profile, but I’m already sure in the database))
Artem, studies physics
I plan to enter Baumanka, I’m pumping physics with a tutor. It’s great that there is a lot of practice on tasks from the Unified State Examination in the classroom. The more we decide, the more confident I feel. nine0008
Lyudmila, Lisa’s mother
My daughter studied at Uchi.ru for two years and found out that now you can prepare for the USE with a tutor. We trust this brand, the youngest in elementary school is also engaged in the platform. Therefore, we decided to improve biology with a tutor, as our daughter is preparing to enter medical school. Very satisfied with the teacher from the first lesson! Tutor Alexandra explains even complex topics in an accessible way, encourages and gives confidence in one’s abilities. We count on 90 points!
Natalya, Sasha’s mother
We were very worried about passing the exam in Russian, although it is not a profile for us. Started practicing two months ago. I can already see the result, and my son is pleased with the results of the trials.
Matvey, improves the level of English
Came to Uchi. Home at the beginning of the 11th grade. I specifically chose online classes, because in the 10th grade I spent a lot of time traveling to and from the tutor. I study English to become an interpreter. I noticed that when I go through some tasks with a tutor, they are already given to me better at school, I know the algorithm for solving them. There are improvements and progress too. nine0008
Victoria, Darya’s mother
Teachers at Uchi.Doma are excellent – with extensive experience, polite, interesting, competent. I like that they always make concessions if we ask them to move the time of the lesson. And, importantly, the prices for classes are reasonable and there are no costs for transport and textbooks.

Subjects and curriculum
All lessons are developed according to the FIPI methodological recommendations and correspond to the OGE codifier
The student will be able to repeat all the topics in spelling and punctuation in 5-9 rules on practice. The tutor will explain the mechanics of solving test tasks and teach you to recognize and bypass the “traps” that they meet. In the classroom, the student will write at least 10 essays and presentations and receive feedback from the tutor. nine0008
Let’s repeat the key topics from the mathematics course for grades 5–6, as well as the algebra and geometry material for grades 7–9. We explain the theory in an interactive format and immediately fix it in practice, taking into account the peculiarities of the examination tasks. We pay special attention to the ability to prove statements and formulate problems.
The child will learn how to correctly perform written and oral tasks from the OGE. We teach grammar using diagrams and tables to make it easier for a child to understand and remember the rules. We pay special attention to practice so that the student can not only cope with speaking and listening tasks, but also improve the level of knowledge of the language and learn to communicate in English in real life. nine0008
Let’s help a child learn to recognize living organisms and their structures, explain the phenomena of life from the standpoint of science, justify the rules of a healthy lifestyle, and provide first aid. The child will be able to use new knowledge and skills in solving typical and non-standard tasks, as well as in everyday life. The educational material is presented in the form of bright illustrations, visual diagrams and tables.
The curriculum covers all the topics of the school curriculum in chemistry, while a significant part is devoted to practice – solving different types of problems. The student will also be able to prepare for conducting chemical experiments. Training materials offer a complete visualization of laboratory glassware and substances, as well as tasks to prepare for experiments. nine0008
We will help you understand the laws of physics in order to apply them in everyday life, as well as recognize physical phenomena in the world around you. The child will learn to solve problems, simulate a given situation in his head and find the right solution. The tutor will also help you prepare for laboratory tests – teach you how to correctly apply formulas, take measurements and draw up the results of work for successful delivery.
A child will repeat the history of Russia from 862 to 1914 and material on foreign history.

FAQs
AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED
We’re so proud!
Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.
SCHOOL-READY
What Learning Looks Like
Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.
Hunt Club KinderCare Programs
Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)
Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.
Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)
Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.
Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)
This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.
Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)
This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!
Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)
When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.
Kindergarten Programs (5–6 Years)
Welcome to kindergarten: the gateway to grade school and everything that
comes next! Offered in select centers, our kindergarten programs have small
class sizes and curriculums that mix learning and fun. The basic building
blocks of reading, writing, math, and science are key in kindergarten, so we
make sure they get lots of practice in all of these areas.
Before- and After-School Programs (5–12 Years)
You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!
School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)
Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.
Participating Child Care Aware Center

Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program
Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)
In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!
Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)
KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.
Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)
Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)
Spanish
Spanish Adventures provides young learners with a foundation for later success with
the Spanish language. Music, games, children’s Spanish literature, and other tools give
children multiple opportunities to hear, practice, and see Spanish language to develop
vocabulary and conversation skills. Curriculum includes lessons on greetings, numbers,
colors, animals, family, body parts, and pets, as well as how to engage conversationally
during common scenarios at home, a restaurant, or at the zoo.
STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)
You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
amazing things!

An Artist’s Heart
“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.

Family Stories
Don’t take our word for it. Hear what our families have to say about our amazing center!
A little over a year ago, I brought my 2 year old to KinderCare. There were really rough changes going on in her life at the time. Hunt Club KinderCare staff was kind, supportive, and understanding. They took a crying child from my arms and within a few short months, her demeanor had changed two-fold. Today, with the guidance from the staff, she has become a happy, more confident, ready-to-learn child.
When a family member leaves an uneasy child in the hands of KinderCare staff, it is reassuring that when you pick them up and the daily reports they complete on each child explains what they did and what type of day they had. It makes the worries you had when dropping them off seem to go away quickly. Monthly curriculum sheets distributed at the beginning of each month helps parents/guardians prepare their child for each day and allows for conversation at the end of the day. This is a structured, well nurtured environment for all children.

The Pomegranate Child
The Pomegranate Child is the very heart of our education system. From where their learning starts with child-led, child-discovered education and play to the day they graduate from Pomegranate Schools, the child is our driving force and inspiration.
We chose the name “Pomegranate” because the pomegranate fruit is represented in many cultures’ art and architecture as a symbol of fruitfulness, prosperity, ambition, and joy.
Our Unique Environment
Our physical environment is professionally designed to allow for the cultivation of beauty, creativity, innovation, the free flow and exchange of ideas, self-awareness, social-emotional regulation, and multiple intelligences.
The interior of each school is designed with extra care and imagination. We believe that the spaces in which we live, work, and learn greatly shape our lives and reflect what we believe. The patterns of light and shade, the colors we choose, the shapes and type of material the space is built out of, and the furniture or materials we use (or don’t use) in the spaces we inhabit have a direct and daily impact on our lives. That is why the design of each site is particularly important for the mission of our school.
We’re More Than a School – We’re a Family!

Flexible Hours/Days:
Choice to enroll for as many hours per day, or as many days per week. Choice of adding extra hours any day, (or extra days) aside from your routine schedule. Drop-off and pick-up whenever its suits your schedule. Open from 8:30am to 5:30pm. Sign-up for 3 or 6 or 9 hour programs.
Academic/Social development:
Balanced focus on “Academic” as well as “Social development” addressing all the needs of the child, for eventual success in life. Due to short attention span of children, their daily activities schedule is broken down into half hour classes involving their motor-skills development and mental acuity enhancement.
Track Progress of Learning:
Daily, we send home all the worksheets and artwork, that children work on. This way parents know real-time as to what level of learning their child is at. This also helps parents get involved in the child’s learning by doing with them the extra work we send home. Pictures and videos are also messaged to parents almost on a daily basis. Periodically childs learning improvements assessments are documented with parents meetings as needed.
Reading-readiness:
Emphasis on reading readiness helps kids perform at 2nd grade level by the time they graduate from the preschool.
Trips and Events:
We have seasonal events almost every month, mostly at venues other than the preschool. Families get to mingle with each other for extended time in an entertaining environment. These events are very nicely celebrated so checkout the pictures/videos online.
Affordable rates:
Quality education should not cost too much. A variety of programs available with tuition rates starting at as low as $400/month.
Besides the structured Montessori education and care, we provide a fun environment where children enjoy developing into their best. View our photo gallery to glimpse into what educational fun children enrolled with us have.
We all are fortunate to be in southern California with its perfect weather and cosmopolitan culture. Children here are more enlightened and have more opportunities to learn and succeed in life. Thats why we offer a variety of enrichment classes. Currently we have enrichment classes ongoing in swimming, languages (French, Spanish, etc.), piano, ballet dancing, sculpting, arts/crafts, culinary science, sign language, gymnastics and music.
True to our name, we don’t miss any opportunity to have fun and celebrate. Because of the many events that we have involving parents, all the parents know each other very well.
We differentiate ourselves from other local preschools by involving our students in additional fun events and activities, besides the 3Rs (Reading, wRiting and aRithmatic), to enhance the overall development of children. Our students develop multifaceted talents due to the exposure to various public events outside the preschool, where they are active participants.
OUR VISION: We see ourselves as an organization able to provide all of the children’s needs that parents are unable to provide because of their busy life. Rather than parents having to shuttle the kids from one place of learning to other, we provide all the learnings in one place. Our extra-curricular activities continue to grow with suggestions from parents on what their children’s needs are. We also provide after-school care, summer camps and tutoring.
We are dedicated to serving all people on an equal and nondiscriminatory basis. We hope you find our website both informative and practical, with easy access to our downloadable forms, calendar, newsletters and flyers, as well as links to current related websites. The photos and illustrations used on our site are based on our students’ drawings and pictures. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Exploring the World: Irvine
Irvine is a city in Orange County. It is located between Los Angeles and San Diego. At the entrance to the city is listed – The City Of Irvine – City of Irvine. The Irvine family ran an agricultural business in the area and contributed greatly to the development of Orange County.
View of the city from the south-southeast (Turtle Rock)
Almost the entire city belongs to Mr. Donald Bren (Donald Bren), who is called “landsilent” here. His company, the Irvine Company, owns lands and communities built on them in Irvine and several other cities along the coast. Mr. Bren’s fortune is many times greater than, for example, Trump’s, but you hardly heard the name of this person. nine0003
Mr. Bren is doing everything to increase the attractiveness of rented housing. Thanks to his regular donations, local schools and the university have a very high rating. The city is kept clean and regularly ranked as the safest in the US (among cities with a population of 200-500 thousand people, it seems). More than half of the population lives in rented housing. In fact, this is a very important point – it is profitable for investors to invest in the city, in infrastructure, sponsor schools and universities, because everything will return with interest. Housing prices, of course, are lower than in Silicon Valley, but still quite high. A two-room apartment (usually a kitchen-studio with a living room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms) can be rented on average for $ 2000-2300 – in an apartment complex with a heated pool, gym and other amenities. nine0003
They say about Irvine’s houses “cookie cutter houses” – the same, stamped with a cookie cutter, this despite the fact that each community seems to be made in a certain style. The rules here are set by councils and associations of homeowners, so all communities, although they have their own characteristics, are painted in the same brown and beige color scheme. The locals say: “It’s customary in Irvine to paint houses in all shades of shit.” This creates some order, but eventually gets boring. Moreover, the colorful houses of neighboring imperfect Anaheim and the bright orange roofs of some San Clemente eventually begin to cause almost childish delight. nine0003

Population
Irvine is a city of immigrants. About half of the city’s population is white, the rest are Asians, most of all Chinese and Koreans, many Indians, African Americans are rare. Politically correct white Americans on the forums are frankly indignant at the dominance of Asians, not particularly distinguishing immigrants from the Celestial Empire from others, and, of course, not bypassing the image of an Asian tiger mother (Asian tiger mom) – a perfectionist who seeks to raise a super-successful child (such an image is played up, for example, in movie “Interns”). nine0016 Iron rule: the cooler the school, the more Chinese and other Asians will be in the area. Interestingly, the Chinese do not like to settle next to the Indians, so the newer areas of northern Irvine are inhabited mainly by wealthy Chinese, Indians are much more common in Westpark, for example. There are few Russians, according to official figures, only about one and a half thousand, but you cannot call us a diaspora here. The Russians of Irvine are not very active, judge for yourself, at the festival dedicated to the cultural diversity of the city, it seemed to me that more than 60 peoples were represented, but the Russians did not set up their tent. nine0016 There are a couple of schools in neighboring towns that organize additional classes in Russian, but there are no full-fledged, let’s say, Russian schools and kindergartens, as, for example, in Miami. When we first moved, it seemed to me that there were only a few Russian speakers in Irvine, but over time we began to meet our people more and more often, and it is interesting that almost all of our new acquaintances also moved to Irvine in 2015. Basically, of course, IT-shniks.

Management problems.
It may seem surprising to some, but there are plenty of problems in the city. There are a lot of unflattering reviews about the current mayor on the net and in local newspapers. The public is trying to give maximum publicity to scandals that smack of corruption, such as the situation with the still unfinished Great Park, whose budget is inflated, while recreational land continues to go under private development. Stones are flying and representatives of the city council who lobby the interests of developers, influence the speed of decision-making, etc. For example, the latest scandal is connected with a lady from the city council, so to speak, who pushed through the interests of KIA (as a developer), while receiving substantial money allegedly for the provision of consulting services. nine0003
Public activists consider the construction of a school on the contaminated land of the former military airfield another serious problem. The mayor’s office is inactive, not providing data on soil analysis, but meanwhile the school should be handed over this year. There is something to worry about, because the substances (fuel components) found by the public in the soil are carcinogenic. With such a high price for land, it is difficult to be objective.

Ecology
Despite the high California standards for car emissions, car pollution is huge here, because cars in the city in total are like in some Russian millionaire, or even more, plus several major highways pass through the city. At a minimum, we get soot on the windows and high noise pollution is what is felt physically. Of course, it cannot be compared with the acetone aroma of Omsk, but this causes a certain discomfort. Especially when you consider that most of the year the air is quite dry, the rains can be counted on the fingers. It even seems to me that the oxygen content in the air here is not painfully high. nine0003
The next point is the use of pesticides and herbicides in fields near residential areas. Maybe I would not pay attention to this – it seems like there are not very many fields in the city, but they are, and moreover, the lease contains the words that we “are informed, understand and accept.” By the way, the same agreement hints at the possible use of pesticides and other things for the treatment of lawns within parks and residential areas.
Strawberry field along road
Public transport
Public transport is poorly developed. In the main, everyone travels in their own cars. There are several bus routes, including routes to other cities in the district, but such buses run extremely rarely. There are 4 routes served by shuttles (a type of minibus) – they run once every 15 minutes or less during peak hours on 4 main streets from the tube stations in Tustin and Irvine, the fare is $1. I mentioned the subway – it’s not really a subway, it’s an elevated high-speed train connecting Los Angeles and San Diego. nine0003
Children are transported to schools by special buses. These buses, shall we say, have a limited range. That is, a bus that collects children to certain schools runs in a given area, and if somehow the child got to school, but lives in another area (for example, the family moved), you will have to take the child to school on your own. For Irvine schools, an annual ticket costs $370. The city is not very suitable for life without a car, especially if you have a family and children. One can try to get by with a bicycle – here for cyclists both paths, and specially allocated lanes, I must say, are quite wide. But, nevertheless, the bicycle here is more like a hobby: the distances are quite long, in the hot months the temperature at five in the evening, when everyone goes home, is quite high. Therefore, people prefer to go to work and shopping by car. nine0003
Transport system
The city can be considered very new, which is probably why, even during the construction of the first districts, roads were laid with at least 2 lanes in each direction, with separate lanes for turning left, added closer to the intersection. The speed limit is generally 45-55 miles per hour, i.e. 72-88.5 km/h. High traffic streets usually have three lanes in each direction. Of course, there are bottlenecks – for example, bridges and viaducts across major highways. nine0016 There are no underground passages at all, only traffic lights, but I must say that very few people walk on foot. However, if a pedestrian turns green, this will inevitably collect a large number of cars at the intersection – the roads are wide. And if during the day you can drive from one side of the city to the other in a matter of minutes, not even along the highway, then at rush hours the highways get up, tails appear at the traffic lights, and instead of seven minutes, you can drive for half an hour.
Almost all roads in Irvine have a dedicated lane or two for turning left.
Jobs and Cost of Living
Low crime rates, high school ratings, tranquility and an abundance of recreational areas make Irvine very attractive, especially for families with children, so real estate prices are very high here. To be honest, not everyone can afford to live in this city. It must be admitted that high real estate prices and status supported by investors entail high prices for services and products. Here, in the afternoon with fire, you will not find services like a master minute or fixing anything from glasses to shoes – that is, they seem to be not in demand, like shops like “all for 99 cents”.
The average income per family in the city is quite high, but it is not easy to find a permanent job in the city, especially if there are no acquaintances who can recommend you. A lot depends on the recommendation in the US, so the in-laws, for which Russians are so criticized, actually flourish here. Put in a good word for a friend’s daughter, or attach a niece to your company. Most people seem to get their first job this way. The exception, perhaps, is IT, where you can confirm your qualifications by passing those. interview. But here, too, “their own”, recommended ones, are taken more willingly. nine0009
INTERLUDE Lost in space – no!. Mozart effect
Designers, decorators, landscapers, pilots, golfers, and other visual professionals use what Howard Gardner, professor of education at Harvard Graduate School, calls “spatial intelligence.” Researchers at the University of Irvine, California found that listening to Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos enhanced these abilities. I prefer Mozart’s violin concertos, as well as other string music. My experience shows that these works give a greater effect. nine0003
The researchers noted that students from all groups had a significant increase in their IQ on the second day compared to the first day, but the ability of the group that listened to Mozart’s music increased by 62% compared to 14% for those who worked in silence, and 11% of students who listened to a mixed sound background. Interestingly, the first group continued to increase their intellectual potential in the following days, while the achievements of the other groups did not increase in any noticeable way. Perhaps this is due to the peculiar training schedule. Offering an explanation for this effect, the scientists suggested that listening to Mozart’s music allows you to “streamline the firepower” of neurons in the cerebral cortex. This particularly enhances the creative processes of the right hemisphere, which are associated with space-time thinking. Listening to music, according to scientists, acts as a “model exercise”, improving the symmetrical organization that is associated with the higher functions of the cerebral hemispheres. In simpler terms, music improves focus, enhances intuitive thinking, and, in golfer’s parlance, results in fewer strokes. nine0003
In their latest study, Rauscher and Shaw’s group observed a group of thirty-four preschool children who were taught piano, basic musical intervals, fine motor coordination, finger sensing, fluent reading, musical notation, and memory playing. After six months, the children could already play the main melodies of Mozart and Beethoven from memory. They significantly improved their spatial and temporal skills (up to 36%) compared to 20 children who received computer lessons and 24 children who received other methods. In the same 10 to 15 minutes of university students who improved in intelligence, preschoolers experienced at least one full day of improvement in intelligence, representing a “growth factor over time of more than a hundred times.

The price was far cheaper than any other hotel in the heart of the city. A comparable toom at a nearby hotel was over 100 dollars more. The room was just as high quality as the other hotels. The bar om the 12th floor was a very nice touch. All vending was handled by security on the first floor and was very well priced for a hotel.

The entire hotel was so beautiful and comforting. The beds were luxurious and the bathroom was so roomy. I loved the shampoo choice we had, it smelled so good. Upper West Side Moms Share Why and Where – West Side Rag
Photograph courtesy of MetroKids Playschool.
By Sara Lewin Lebwohl
Upper West Side parents are faced with many decisions, but the one that often tops the list is what to do about child care. Whether they need it to work or to retain a semblance of their lifestyles and sanity (and they can afford it!), parents often turn to outside resources to help care for their children.
The two most popular child-care choices are hiring a nanny or day care. This article focuses on day care: its quality, cost, and availability on the Upper West Side.
Day care used to be thought of as a default decision for those who couldn’t afford nannies, but that is no longer the case. First of all, day care can be as or more expensive than a nanny. There are currently 85 programs on the UWS, with an average cost of $2,300 per month for five-days-a-week care, according to Upfront, a startup business that is currently collecting and analyzing child-care data for local governments, including New York City.
Second, there are some advantages to day care, experts say, in terms of socialization, cognition, and language development, as well as some disadvantages, i.e. behavioral problems down the line. But Psychology Today reported these differences to be “relatively minor,” adding, “Parent and family factors (such as parent education, the home environment, and the quality of the parent-child interaction) have a much greater impact on child development than the type of child care you choose…. Accordingly, parents should choose the type of child care that works best for their family and their individual child.”
Photograph courtesy of Purple Circle.
But finding the right day-care program and attaining a spot in it can be challenging on the Upper West Side. “The official NYC portal is atrocious and has a ton of old, incomplete information,” said Dana Levin-Robinson, CEO and Co-Founder of Upfront, in a telephone conversation. “And only 60% of UWS [day-care programs] have a website, so parents can’t see 40% of their real options. ”
With all the challenges, moms rely most of all on word of mouth and Facebook groups for recommendations. The following moms have come forward to share their experiences, recommendations, and tips for choosing day care for their kids. The list is a random sample, neither comprehensive nor an endorsement.
One UWS woman who chose to remain anonymous said that she found a great fit for her son at MetroKids day care. “We love it. We considered hiring a nanny, but we really wanted the socialization aspect,” she said. She looked at quite a few options around the UWS. “[One] was much more expensive than MetroKids, so I thought that would mean better quality, but when I went to visit, I did not feel that way.” She had been nervous that selecting day care over a nanny would mean “less attention to details she felt were important” for her son’s care. Those concerns quickly dissipated when she saw how her son was thriving.
Sara Frantzreb, UWS mom of two, had looked at day-care options and found a nanny was less expensive. “There was one center that was $45,000 for a 9am-2pm program. That is just a massive amount of money!”
Rivka Einy has two sons, one with special needs. “I know that the Upper West Side is an incredible place to live with a lot of resources for children. And, yet, it’s been really hard for me to find the right fit for my younger child. For my older son, it was easier. “I really liked Purple Circle’s child-led approach; they are very warm and progressive. They are not focused on meeting standards, but rather on learning through experience. It’s a wonderful social-emotional curriculum.”
Courtesy of JCC.
Meredith Oppenheim, a full-time working mom, said that when she went looking for a day-care program, she wanted one that felt “warm and welcoming.” She decided that the JCC was a good fit for her daughter and was very happy with her choice, “I felt like they are part of something bigger than our family, and I liked the value system,” she said.
Melody Solowky sends her daughter to Goddard and despite the “huge, huge bill,” she is very happy with the consistent care and curriculum her daughter receives. When asked why she chose Goddard over hiring a nanny, Melody said, “I didn’t want to worry about the logistics of being an employer.” She noted that “it’s not just the hourly rate a nanny could charge, but also transportation costs, classes they take children to, and food, which can really add up.”
Samantha Keene, mom of two, did part-time day care for her kids. Samantha encourages parents to explore options outside of the traditional two, and suggested looking into nanny-shares. “People want the home environment, but also want socialization for their kids,” Samantha said. This could be a cost-effective, happy medium.
Not all parents interviewed found programs on the UWS. Christine Palma, owner of an acupuncture business on 84th Street, needed immediate coverage when she adopted her child, because she had a business to run. She discovered that UWS daycare programs had long waitlists. She finally found an open spot in Harlem. Some of her clients are single moms, she told the Rag, and have struggled to find affordable child care on the UWS. She has reached out to Rep. Jerry Nadler, but has yet to hear back.
In April, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that the state budget would include $7 billion for child care, which is double the current amount, reported Chalkbeat. The expansion would be spread over four years, with the goal of attaining universal affordable child care.
Despite the challenges in finding and securing child care, UWS moms are always willing to share information to help each other out. Hopefully, the city will catch up and provide more effective resources for parents as they navigate this important family decision.
How to Start a Daycare in New York
Owning and maintaining a child daycare center can be very rewarding. Success in this industry demands hard work, love, and patience. The workday is long, but the enjoyment of seeing children grow and develop is well worth the extra effort.
Starting a home daycare or childcare business in New York entails a unique set of legal issues particular to this type of business and New York State. Understanding the process and how it relates to New York is the key to success in this demanding but worthwhile industry.
How Many Kids Can You Babysit Without a License?
First, is it necessary to start a business to care for children? The simple answer is yes, it’s required to have a license to start a daycare in New York. However, you can babysit kids without one, but there are limitations.
In New York, you cannot care for more than two children without a license. If you regularly care for three to six children for a fee in your home, you must at least register as a family daycare.
A family daycare provides regular childcare in a family home for more than three hours each day per child. This form of care may include three to six children ranging in age from six weeks to twelve years and two more school-age children. The provider is not allowed to care for more than two children under the age of two at the same time, either.
If you regularly care for seven to twelve children for a fee, you must register as a group family daycare. The provider must have at least one assistant, and one caregiver must be present for every two children under two.
Develop Your Vision
Part of choosing to open a daycare business is deciding what kind you want to operate. New York breaks childcare services down by age and number of children. They fall into distinct categories:
Child Daycare Center – You may accept more than six children aged six weeks to 12 years for more than three hours per day. The care must not be in a residence.
Small Daycare Center – You may accept three to six children aged six weeks to 12 years for more than three hours per day. The care must not be in a residence.
School-Age Child Care – You may accept seven or more children aged five to 13 years. They must be enrolled in school or cared for when school is not in session.
Group Family daycare – You may accept seven to 12 children aged six weeks to 12 years for more than three hours per day. The care must not be in a residence.
Family daycare – You may accept three to six children aged six weeks to 12 years (six weeks to six years in NYC) for more than three hours per day. This care can be in a residence.
Informal care – This is babysitting. You can babysit up to two children of any age.
Except for School-Age Child Care, children in care can range from six weeks to twelve years. Other, more particular regulations apply as well. A Small Daycare Center, for instance, cannot care for more than two children under the age of two at the same time, and, in rare cases, such as minors under court supervision, children 13 and older may also receive care from daycare centers or daycare homes. Also, keep in mind that various restrictions apply to childcare services in New York City in some cases.
The New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) requires licensing for Family Child Care, Group Family Child Care, Child Care Centers, and School Age Child Care programs. The OCFS regulates, monitors, and inspects these businesses. Choosing a name and legal structure for your center is critical, especially if you intend to borrow money to get started. Many entrepreneurs don’t think about these issues until they’re asked about them on loan or licensing applications. Choose a name that is memorable and catchy.
Licensing
The licensing process in New York is complex. The only format that does not require at least registration is informal care. Expect to need a license for any other type of daycare in NY. The licensing application is long and comprehensive. To apply, you will need:
Your current and prior addresses
The legal structure of your child care business
Names of individuals with CPR and First Aid certificates
Two types of identity
Statements describing previous childcare experience and credentials
References
A description of the employees’ medical conditions
Statement of the daily schedule
Inside floor layout
Outside play area information
Criminal conviction statements
Acknowledgment of awareness of, and compliance with, health and safety, criminal record, and other requirements
Also, a New York State Department of Health (DOH) permit to operate a daycare is necessary for all programs with more than six children up to six years of age. A special license is required for daycare services with children under two years of age.
The licensing of childcare enterprises in New York is handled by OCFS. All operators must attend a 15-hour health and safety training program. In addition, the daycare requirements state that every two years, each provider and helper must complete 30 hours of training in nine different topics. Depending on the type of care facility, other personnel may be subject to the same training requirements.
Consider your options carefully before settling on a legal framework for your center. Individual entrepreneurs run the majority of childcare centers. However, you may discover that incorporating or joining a partnership provides additional benefits.
Some options for the legal structuring of your center include:
Sole proprietorship – You are the sole owner of the business. You must file both business and personal taxes at the same time.
Incorporation – This is a practical choice if you need bank financing to get started. Also, if your business fails, incorporation protects your assets for forfeiture if you owe money.
Partnership – You distribute the earnings and losses between partners.
Formal Education
The regulations regarding formal training will vary from place to place. Some areas may require a degree in Early Childhood Education. This is becoming more common.
In New York State, for example, the director of a daycare center must have one of the following qualifications:
An associate degree in early childhood education or equivalent
A CDA (child development associate) certificate and at least two years of experience caring for children
A high school degree and at least three years of childcare experience
The Child daycare Orientation is required to apply for a license or registration for a childcare service. This orientation will assist you in determining if running a child care center in New York State is a good fit for you. It defines the prerequisites for starting a childcare program, the venues where care can be delivered, the kid-to-adult ratios, and provider resources. Orientation covers crucial rules and regulations that you must understand to manage your business. You can also get information on how to provide the greatest care for the children in your program.
The regulations also require CPR and, in some cases, basic first-aid training.
Find The Right Location
The licensing application requires you to provide an indoor and outdoor layout, so you’ll need to have a location before applying. Whatever facility you choose must meet the state’s zoning, health, and safety regulations.
You will also need insurance. Numerous types of insurance protect daycare businesses, including general liability insurance, workers’ compensation insurance, property insurance, abuse and molestation insurance, and others. You are encouraged to consult with an insurance broker to determine which coverage is ideal for your company.
Financials
It isn’t easy to start any new business without proper financing. There are several options available, including:
SBA (Small Business Administration) MicroLoan – These are set up to help get start-ups off the ground. They are available to women, minorities, and people in low-income areas. The cap is $50,000.
SBA Community Advantage – This loan is for businesses in underserved communities.
Government grants – Financial assistance might be available through a government, federal, or state grant, as well.
Also, set up a business bank account and get a business credit card. This helps separate your personal and business expenses.
Setting Up Your Team
In most cases, you’ll need more than one person to run your daycare. In New York State, a daycare center must have one adult for every six children under six. However, in New York City, there must be two teachers or one teacher and one assistant for every six children aged two to three, with a maximum of 12 pupils in a single group. Your own children may or may not be counted as well.
They will likely have to complete the orientation provided by the state. There may be requirements for training and background checks, too. You can also use training and background checks as a marketing tool.
Marketing
Finally, few businesses survive without a strategic marketing program. You will need to look for ways to advertise your new business. You’ll also want to set up an online presence by creating a website and social media pages.
Use your formal training, the extensive checks you do for staff, and your teacher-to-child ratios as tools that set you apart from other daycares in the area.

New York remains one of the most expensive cities in the world to raise children and receive an education. Despite the economic crisis, the cost of one year of study at a private university in the largest US city costs more than $50,000, according to The Huffington Post.
If a New Yorker wants their child to be raised in the best kindergarten, then attend high school in a private boarding school in Manhattan, and then graduate from university and law school, he will have to shell out more than $1 million. nine0013
Kindergarten: Today’s most popular preschool among New Yorkers is on 92nd Street, where it will cost $14,400 a year to send your offspring three times a week. If you want him to be in kindergarten five days a week, then you have to pay $21,100.
Elementary School: New York Elite Dalton School costs $35,300 per year.

Our Mission
At Brookfield School we strive to inspire our students to “Rise to the Challenge” every day. This year Brookfield is continuing to meet the challenges of COVID-19. The classroom environment is safe as possible with small class sizes, an iWave air purification system for each classroom, fully implemented safety procedures, and individually assigned Chromebooks for each student. Our large campus and regulation U12 soccer field give students plenty of room to play safely outdoors, and the electrostatic virus controlling misters we use help to control all of the viruses children may spread on the climbing equipment, not just COVID.
” Brookfield School is a learning community where children and nurtured and cherished. Our mission is to encourage and guide our students to develop to their fullest potential, both intellectually and socially. Academic excellence, civility, and good character are hallmarks of Brookfield graduates. “
– Jo Gonsalves, Ed.D.

A unique school in Sacramento – one of the best
More than 1,500 children study at the California-based Community Outreach Academy, who are taught Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian. The so-called Russian school in Sacramento is in good standing with local residents and authorities.

Once again we are on the territory of the Sacramento public charter school – Community Outreach Academy, which is so loved in the Russian and Ukrainian diaspora of Sacramento.
The secondary and elementary school, which today has more than 1,500 children of predominantly Slavic origin, is a kind of stronghold of Russian, Ukrainian and even Belarusian culture in the capital of California.
As Larisa Gonchar, director of the educational institution, told Slavic Sacramento, this year the Belarusian Club was added to the school curriculum, where, along with the Belarusian language, children will be able to study the culture and traditions of this people. The fact is that recently the leadership of the Community Outreach Academy reached an agreement with the Grodno secondary school in the field of teaching the Belarusian language. As a result, a small Belarusian club is already operating on the basis of the Californian educational institution.
In addition to learning other languages on campus, there is an opportunity to attend all kinds of extended-day classes and hobby groups. The school’s deputy director, Michael Cerdi, said that as part of the training, children go in for dance, ballet, karate and other sports. Separately, they are trained in the skills of working with the Lego constructor and a 3D printer, with the help of which schoolchildren can create all kinds of figures and models.

Larisa Gonchar, an immigrant from Belarus who has run the school for 15 years, says the school ranks well in the region in a number of ways, including financial health, children’s literacy rates and social status.
“We try to make our children grow up literate, comprehensively developed, educated,” says Gonchar, “so that they are ready to live and serve in this country.”
According to Gonchar, her charter school model “serves as a kind of bridge between cultures” that helps the children of Slavic immigrants integrate into American society without significant losses.
Another feature of the school is the emphasis on an individual approach to the learning process. There is one teacher for ten schoolchildren, and in total about 60 teachers are involved in the school.
I go to one of the classes. The children ask me to sign the terms of the so-called “social contract” hanging on the wall next to the interactive whiteboard monitor, in which I pledge to “be honest, respect others and learn to solve problems.” The same “agreement” is concluded by each student before entering the classroom. In my opinion, this is a very interesting experiment, which is designed to awaken in a child all the noblest intentions and decisions.
As in the Russian language class, children learn the alphabet and Ukrainian folklore in the Ukrainian class.

After the unfortunate events in the East of Ukraine, immigrants and refugees from Russia and Ukraine began to arrive en masse in California and in particular in Sacramento. I met one of these students on the sports ground near the school. The boy told me that this school differs from his former Ukrainian school in that “there is much more space and more interesting activities.”
Community Outreach Academy maintains an active relationship with county law enforcement who regularly conduct special education events for children. For example, at one of these lectures, local police officers shared with schoolchildren professional advice on safety on the street and on the Internet, as well as how to behave in an accident and in other emergency situations. In turn, the teachers visit the local police station, along with gratitude “for service and protection of the area”, presenting representatives of the law with symbolic gifts and sweets from grateful children and their parents.
The capital of California is the second homeland of the Russian language
The school’s “live lessons” also include representatives from the Sacramento Fire Department, who educate children about the basics of fire safety and what to do in case of a fire.
Children have their own “radio room”, where elementary school students record children’s programs, as well as morning messages for broadcasts in classes and online.
In the computer class, children play educational games, get acquainted with the basics of working with a PC, and perform a variety of teacher tasks.
A special extra-curricular competition deserves special attention, during which students create models of various vehicles – from police cars to ambulances – and move around the campus in impromptu “costumes”. The jury is made up of school administrators, parents and the children themselves. According to Larisa Gonchar, these events help her little wards to decide on their future profession in adulthood.
Rising talent shows of all kinds, theme nights, outdoor family movie screenings, sports competitions, regional competitions in grammar, arithmetic and other subjects, a variety of cultural events and theatrical performances complete the widest range of extraordinary learning experiences.
Zhanna Ivanyuk, one of the parents, an immigrant from Ukraine, whose three children have been attending Community Outreach Academy since kindergarten, says that her family really likes this school, because there are “a lot of Russians and very good teachers, very good relations and no misunderstandings “.
Indeed, in the corridors of the school and on the playgrounds, sincere children’s energy is in full swing.
VIDEO REPORT: West Sacramento Police have a Slavic Department
As Deputy Director Michael Cerdy said, in order to ensure the safety of children attending the educational institution, the school has a unified video surveillance system, which allows administrators of the “academy” to monitor children in real time. This significantly reduces the number of unauthorized intrusions on the school grounds, and also expands the possibilities of monitoring what is happening on campus.
In addition, the Twin Rivers School District, which includes Community Outreach Academy and several smaller districts, is the 29th largest school district in the United States, according to the Department of Education. It includes more than 28 thousand schoolchildren who speak 46 languages of the world.
Twin Rivers alumni include distinguished teachers, prominent politicians, outstanding athletes, and notable regional government officials.
