“Peak Performance Starts With Strong Mental Health” —Karen Phelps, Golden Minds
Director Karen Phelps, daughter of legendary Irish basketball coach Digger Phelps, has been around sports and the mental wellness movement her entire life. As the wife of a major league baseball pitcher for decades and the mother of six children who all played college sports, she is all too familiar with the high-pressure, intense spotlight and endless demands young people on campus endure.
For years, Karen built up her knowledge around mental health, leading her to launch her own foundation, now Eluna Network (elunanetwork.org) – a trailblazing endeavor establishing grief and addiction camps for children dealing with loss or drugs and alcohol. Her work has been honored countless times and the HBO documentary chronicling her humanitarian work with children in grief (“One Last Hug…”) earned an Emmy Award.
As she continued to read about and hear about the alarming rise in rates of anxiety and depression in college sports – including the shocking tragic suicides of multiple players and the abrupt retirement of student-athletes over their mental health crisis, Phelps rolled up her sleeves to help create more solutions.
“We need to do more, and now – and we can,” says Phelps. “We created this one-stop online platform to make navigating mental health easier. There’s no reason every athlete shouldn’t put their mental wellness first because it’s everything. Any stigma about it must stop – we all need to be telling players, mental health goes hand in hand with physical health, that talking to others and seeking support is a sign of strength not weakness, and that they are surrounded by a community ready to lift them up and connect them to the right resource. We passionately believe Golden Minds can be a part of these necessary conversations.”

What is “beauty”? Why do we like the face and appearance of one person and not the other?
Scientists tried to answer these questions even when there was not only dentistry as a branch of medicine, but medicine itself was in its infancy.
It turns out that our face and body have certain proportions that seem almost mystical at first glance.
Although in our enlightened age, many things can be found scientific and even mathematical explanation.
It is generally accepted that for the first time the patterns of the ratio of the size of the human body and its individual parts were generalized and formulated in 1855 by the German researcher Zeising in his scientific work “Aesthetic Research”. He took the doctrine of the “golden section” as the basis of his theory.
Back in the 6th century BC. The ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras introduced the concept of “golden division” into scientific use. “Golden division” is a proportional division of a segment into unequal parts. In this case, the smaller segment is related to the larger segment as the larger segment is related to the entire segment. a : b = b : c or c : b = b : a.
So what’s so special about this ratio?
It turns out that the smaller segment is always related to the larger one, as 0. 382: to 0.618:

One of the examples of the “golden division”, with which everyone is probably familiar, is the pentagram and, as its representatives, so beloved by the older generation, the “quality mark” and the “star”.

The history of the “golden section” is connected with another famous Italian mathematician Fibonacci. A series of numbers has come down to our times: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, etc., known as the Fibonacci series.
The peculiarity of the sequence of these numbers is that each of its members, starting from the third, is equal to the sum of the two previous ones (2+3=5, 3+5=8), and the ratio of adjacent numbers of the series approaches the ratio of the “golden section” ( 21:34=0. 617 and 34:55=0.618). Subsequently, all researchers of the “golden section” in the plant and animal world, art and anatomy came to this series as an arithmetic expression of the law of golden division. Interestingly, Fibonacci derived his law by counting the number of rabbits born from a pair of rabbits per year.
So what is the halo of mystery of the “golden section”?
Everything that grows and takes any shape in the living world of our planet – grows up or twists in a spiral. A spiral (for example, a sea shell) is an example of a ratio in the proportions of the “golden section”. Spirals can be traced in the arrangement of seeds in the cones of coniferous trees, in sunflower seeds, etc.

And the proportions of the female body are on average in the ratio 8 : 5 = 1.6.
The proportions of the “golden section” are manifested in relation to the length of the shoulder, forearm, hand and fingers, etc.
It is amazing, but in the face of a person one can trace many proportions subordinate to the “golden section”. Moreover, the more proportions in a person’s face in this proportion, the more beautiful he seems to us. There are people who are characterized by the expression “correct facial features.” In these people, the main proportions are closest to the ratio of 1.618: or 62:38.
What proportions in a person’s face tend to the “golden section”?
First of all, in people with beautiful faces, there is:
The ideal proportion between the distances from the medial angle of the eye to the ala of the nose and from the ala of the nose to the chin. This relation is called “dynamic symmetry” or “dynamic equilibrium”.
The ratio of the height of the upper and lower lips will be 1.618.

The distance between the line of the upper part of the forehead to the line of pupils and the distance between the line of pupils and the line of closing of the lips has the proportion of the “golden section”.
You can continue this list of proportions of harmonious faces. It turns out that the correct beauty can be mathematically calculated and even resorted to surgical adjustment in order to improve the appearance.
At present, dentistry, along with plastic surgery, deals not only with the treatment of diseases of the oral cavity, but also with aesthetic medicine.
Surprisingly, the proportions of the “golden section” can also be traced in dentistry.

Today we will talk about the square, the name of which is known to every Samarans. Its golden age fell on the times of merchant Samara, therefore, the merchant and local historian Konstantin Golovkin will help us in its study.
So, we begin to get acquainted with the history and sights of Revolution Square.
In Konstantin Golovkin’s local lore card index, the story about it begins like this: “In the place of Alekseevskaya Square, once upon a time, as they say, there was a clearing, and on it a small lake.”
This is the 18th century. When the first development plan for Samara was created in 1782, the quarters surrounding the current Revolution Square were not yet built up. The appearance of the first stone houses here can be dated back to the 1830s. In the pre-gubernia period, the square changed its name more than once. On the city plan of 1839, it was called Torgovaya, in the 1840s – Khlebnaya (or Bread Bazaar Square), and also Panskaya. The last name could be found in documents in the 1850s.
The most famous pre-revolutionary name – Alekseevskaya – was apparently given to the square in 1857. Then the 500th anniversary of the journey to the Golden Horde of St. Alexis, the heavenly patron of Samara, was celebrated. According to legend, at that very lake, the Metropolitan of Moscow had a conversation with an Orthodox hermit living here. Satisfied with both the conversation with the pious hermit and the views of the surroundings, Saint Alexy predicted something like this: “There will be a great city in which piety will shine, and this city will never be subject to ruin …”.

Approximately the first 30 years of the existence of Revolution Square, it housed one of the two city markets. Konstantin Golovkin writes: “In 1856 the former main bazaar, glutton’s row, shops and chests were destroyed by fire, and the bazaar was transferred to Trinity Square” . They decided not to build up the area, although three years earlier they planned to build a stone guest yard here. If these plans were realized, there would hardly be a place for a monument to Alexander II on Alekseevskaya Square. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
In 1859, the Samara Gubernskie Vedomosti wrote: “Who recognizes the former Alekseevskaya Square, so recently still cluttered with rows of ugly, dirty shops, in the present spacious square, lined with beautiful buildings with hotels, shops and whole rows of shops and lit by 12 large alcohol lanterns. When the news we are reporting comes true, when the clock tower is erected, and in the middle of the square, as they promise us, a pool with a fountain will be built, then our Alekseevskaya Square will undoubtedly take not the last place among the best squares of provincial cities.0010 .
Konstantin Golovkin also noted: “In the 1870s and 80s, there were an apartment and the office of the governor, 3-4 large hotels, notary offices and newspaper editorial offices on the square” .
Indeed, in the 1850s-1920s, Alekseevskaya Square could be considered the administrative center of Samara. The aforementioned apartment and office of the governor, as well as the provincial government, were located in different years in the house of the merchants Shabaevs (Kuibysheva, 81). In the next photo, he occupies the right side of the frame.
Here, in particular, lived Governor Alexei Sverbeev, whose memoirs dedicated to Samara, we analyzed in a separate article.
The provincial government moved from Alekseevskaya to Theater Square, to the Governor’s House, built according to the project of the architect Shamansky, only in 1915. However, some provincial offices remained in the Shabaevs’ house, as well as the police museum opened in 1907.
One of the oldest hotels in Samara was located in the same northeastern part of Revolution Square (Kuibysheva, 79). Someone P.N. opened it. Krasnov in 1874. Later it was called “European”.
From 1908 to 1913 it was owned by the merchant Pavel Annaev, who left interesting memories of pre-revolutionary Samara.
In the same corner of Alekseevskaya Square in 1860, thanks to the efforts of the mayor of the merchant Vasily Bureev, a striking tower clock was installed, made in the workshop of the Butenopov brothers. The first tier of this structure was a brick gatehouse, the second was occupied by a clock, the third tier was a bell tower.

However, the proximity to the tower did not please the owners of nearby houses. Firstly, she blocked the white light for them, and secondly, “she bothered with the chores of cleaning up the sewage that accumulated around her.” Well, besides, the clock was more needed at the main city bazaar – Trinity. They were transferred to the bell tower of the church of the same name in 1874.
Journalists have chosen the southern part of Alekseevskaya Square. In the house of the merchant Nazarov (Kuibyshev, 58/39) from 1883 to 1904 (with interruptions) the newspaper Samara Vestnik worked. This media began its life as a mouthpiece of the Samara conservatives. However, at the end 189For 6 years, after the change of leadership, Samara Vestnik became the first legal Marxist newspaper in the country. The editorial office and printing house of this publication occupied the right wing of the building adjoining the District Court.
Across the road, in the house of the notary Evdokim Yurin (Kuibysheva, 73), from 1884 to 1906, Samarskaya Gazeta worked. It was originally a liberal publication, the life of which was put to an end by an article about the revolution of 1905, which contained criticism of the activities of the gendarmes. A memorial plaque to its most famous journalist, Maxim Gorky, has been installed on the former building of the Samarskaya Gazeta editorial office. And of course, speaking about the role of the administrative center of the city, one cannot ignore the building of the Samara Regional Court (Kuibyshev, 60), or, in the pre-revolutionary manner, the District Court, which began work on November 25, 1870.
Before that, the building belonged to the merchant Akim Svetov. In the 1860s, the first store of wine and colonial goods in Samara, owned by Georgy Sanin, operated in it. Allegedly, it was in it that the Samara residents first got acquainted with the price tags, which humbled the ardor of those who like to bargain.
From Konstantin Golovkin’s local lore notes, we learn that they also traded in the courtyard of the future District Court. There were chests and shops where they sold various small goods: “The future Samara millionaire Ya.G. began his career there. Sokolov, who traded in flax.
Remembering the wealthy citizens, we note that the Samara Merchant Bank, opened in 1908, lodged precisely on Alekseevskaya Square, in the house of the Arzhanovs (Kuibysheva, 66). In 1889, the first monument in the history of Samara, to Emperor Alexander II, was erected on Alekseevskaya Square. You can read more about its appearance here.
The transport issue is also worth mentioning. Revolution Square is an invariable point in the first routes of all types of land urban transport. The path of the horse-drawn railway ran along it, the first Samara trams, buses and trolleybuses started and finished here. In the diary of Mikhail Bulgakov dated July 21, 1924, one can read: “I[f] and Yu[ry] O[lesha] came from Samara. There are two trams in Samara. On one is the inscription “Revolution Square – a prison”, on the other – “Soviet Square – a prison.” Something like that. In short, all roads lead to Rome!” . Perhaps it’s time to talk about the weak side of Revolution Square. Its architectural appearance is made up of houses, for the most part with an ordinary appearance. Here the modern style saves the situation.
His influence can be seen in the appearance of several buildings – for example, the so-called “House of Sisters”. He got his nickname due to the fact that according to the description it resembles the one in which the main characters of Alexei Tolstoy’s novel “Sisters” lived. This house is one of three located on the estate of the merchant Bakharev and united by a single address – Kuibyshev, 71. In 1903, one of the houses on the Bakharev estate was reconstructed in the style of Scandinavian Art Nouveau, presumably by the architect Georgy Moshkov.
Also in 1903, the reconstruction of the District Court building was completed. An extension was built to it from the side of Venceka Street, which housed a new courtroom, offices of judges, investigators and technical workers of the court. In addition, the façade of the District Court was decorated with numerous Art Nouveau decorative elements.
April 25, 1918 Alekseevskaya Square was renamed Revolution Square. Until November of the same year, the monument to Alexander II held out on its pedestal. We wrote about his future fate back in 2016.
Since then, another document has appeared that at least sheds some light on the fate of the bronze emperor. From it we learn that as of December 1925, the head of the monument was at the disposal of the Samara branch of Rudmetaltorg.
The third important event in the fate of Revolution Square at 1918 – anarcho-maximalist rebellion. It was suppressed by the Bolsheviks very quickly, and the Filimonov Hotel (Kuibysheva, 60) remained the last place of resistance of the Black Guard.
In the light of the first anniversary of the October Revolution, it was decided to erect a new monument on Revolution Square. This idea was actively discussed in the Samara press.
November 7, 1927 on the Revolution Square was erected a monument to Lenin (alas, typical) by sculptor Matvey Manizer.
In the 1930s, city planners from Kuibyshev planned to build on most of the buildings on Revolutsii Square in the fashion of the time. Here, for example, could look like houses No. 75 and 77 along Kuibyshev Street.
House No. 79 was designed in the same style. Curiously, it was intended for the workers of the Kuibyshev Spare Parts Plant located on Bezymyanka.
Only the superstructure of the former house of the merchant Annaev was brought to life. Employees of the Stankozavod received living space in the three floors built on.
One can only regret that the initial reconstruction project of this house was not fully realized. Nevertheless, in 1936 the Revolution Square received its high-rise dominant.
There were, however, losses. In 1938, the tram ring was dismantled on Revolution Square. After that, it did not undergo any noticeable town-planning changes.
At the end of the story about the Revolution Square – two small bonuses. The first is archival documents of the post-war period. The one on the left tells about the transfer of the bus station from Revolution Square to Khlebnaya at 1948 year. The document on the right is dated 1947 and deals with the redistribution of the budget. Funding was then reduced for the bath and laundry trust, and increased for the advertising bureau, and all for the sake of decorating Revolution Square.
The second bonus is vintage photographs of Revolution Square. The black and white ones were made in the late 1980s, the color ones in the very early 2000s.
And, of course, Revolutsii Square won a prominent place in the guide to Samara from The Other City, which you can now buy for only 854 rubles.

Basic information about the organization.
Kindergarten No. 37 was opened in 1962 in a barrack-type building for children of NEVZ factory workers, on the street. Griboyedov.
August 27, 1983 Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant, having completed construction, puts into operation a new standard kindergarten building in the Molodezhny microdistrict and the kindergarten moves to a new beautiful building at the address: Novocherkassk, River street, 4-a .
Improved planning kindergarten: a winter garden, a swimming pool, a music hall, walking verandas, specialists’ offices – to which kindergarten No. 37, previously located in an adapted building, is being transferred.
February 1995 – the kindergarten is transferred by the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant to the Municipal property and remains the Municipal Budgetary Preschool Educational Institution.
Since 2011, the kindergarten has become the base platform of the RO IPK and PRO on the issue of “Modernization of preschool education”, since 2016 – the municipal methodological resource center (MMRC). During this time, various projects were implemented in the kindergarten, which made it possible to maintain the image of the kindergarten, to achieve positive results in working with preschoolers.
In 2016, the Municipal Budgetary Preschool Educational Institution Kindergarten No. 39 was reorganized by joining Kindergarten No. 37. at the address: Novocherkassk, Kleshcheva street, 6 a. The history of the second building is closely connected with the life of the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant, a kindergarten was built for the children of the plant’s employees and put into operation on 1960g ..

Three and four year old campers can look forward to an exciting summer at Winding Trails Summer Day Camp in our Scout group. Your preschooler can participate in a half-day camp program 5 days a week. They will have arts & crafts, sports, water play, and an exposure to nature, music, and more. Our staff, experienced in early childhood and camping, will provide a high quality program for your child. A very low counselor-camper ratio will assure that your child receives individual attention. The Scout session is from 9:00am to 1:30pm. Children must be toilet trained. Swim Lessons are not a part of the Scout program.

CARE Ice Fishing Class
The Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) Program offers a free in-depth ice fishing class that introduces you to the wonders of water, fish, and fishing during the winter. Miss Judy and other state certified volunteer instructors will pass along the knowledge they have learned through years of angling. The morning class includes a video, hands-on demonstrations with the equipment, how to stay safe on the ice, and additional activities that will teach and entertain youths and adults alike. Visit the CARE program ICEFISHING webpage to prepare yourself and for more ice fishing information. If ice conditions are safe, an outside ice fishing practice will be offered in the afternoon. All equipment is provided for your use. It is very important to dress in layers for the weather conditions and to wear boots for the afternoon practice — no sneakers are allowed.

The program format is an introduction about the day’s topic followed by a hands-on outdoor activity to try out what you learned. Each month, we will be exploring different locations and topics as we discover the many animals and plants that make up Winding Trails’ fields, forests, and waterbodies. Since the weather is always fluid, the experience changes from year to year. The January and February programs will have activities based on the weather on that day — checking out ice on the pond or building a snow fort or taking a hike. In March, we will be experiencing the entire maple sugaring process from taping the trees to boiling down the sap into syrup. Dress for the weather with layers, snow pants (when appropriate), and boots so everyone is warm in the cold. With April, we have hopes for the early spring season as we look for skunk cabbage and early spring flowers to listening for calling frogs at the vernal pools. Dress for the weather with good walking shoes. Bring along water boots or shoes for exploring the vernal pool areas up close.

A Ph.D. in chemistry is required to work as an independent scientific researcher or teach at a university, according to the American Chemical Society (ACS). Although extensive schooling is required, the terminal degree opens doors to many intellectually challenging Ph.D. chemist jobs that pay well.
Salary is an important variable in the formula for finding a career that suits you, but not the only one. Consider what aspects of chemistry intrigue you the most. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Would you rather spend your days researching in a nanochemistry lab or teaching students on a college campus? Whatever you decide, you can expect to make a comfortable living, with the possible exception of starting out as an adjunct college chemistry instructor.
Chemical Engineer Salary
The natural oil and gas industry relies heavily on chemical and physical engineers to locate, access and refine fossil fuels used in the production of plastics. Fascinating chemistry
— I came to science thanks to my grandfather, Andrey Alexandrovich Novopashin. He was one of the first professors of the Kuibyshev Civil Engineering Institute, he called himself a “silicate chemist”. Although he had a technical education, he always gravitated towards fundamental science – he tried to find patterns in the structure and properties of materials. My parents were engineers, and my mother was a chemist, but my grandfather still influenced me, he was a great scientist.
For a long time I was attracted to the natural sciences, and at first I was going to enter the biological specialty, studied at the school of young biologist at the state university. But when I began to prepare for the exams, for some reason I decided to start with chemistry. I took Homchenko’s “Help for Applicants to Universities” and it captivated me so much! In this science, it turned out to be a lot of incomprehensible: where does it come from, why the reaction proceeds in this way … In a word, I switched to it.
Then, already being a first-year student at Kuibyshev State University, I went to additional classes in analytical chemistry – I really liked qualitative analysis, the search for a mixture of some substances. But at some point, I found that I was sitting in the laboratory all the time, closed from the whole world, and decided that something needed to be changed. At the same time, I was offered to become the secretary of the Komsomol Committee of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology, where 500 people studied. Of course, it was a challenge for me. I accepted it, and for two years, from the second to the fourth year, I worked in this position.
And then, having prepared his shift, he left and took up exclusively science. Then, in 1985, I published my first scientific article in the journal Radiochemistry.
As in the story of the Strugatskys
I graduated from the university with honors and had absolutely no doubt that I should go further into science. He prepared his diploma in Moscow, at the Institute of Pure Reagents. An amazing institution, in which everything was reminiscent of the story of the Strugatsky brothers “Monday begins on Saturday.” There was a unique laboratory for the study of substances with the most expensive and modern equipment in the USSR. Even more striking was the enthusiasm with which people worked in 90 years, when prices for everything skyrocketed and it was profitable to do business, not science. I tried to go abroad, and rather naively: I wrote ten letters to different countries to scientists whom I knew from publications. The answer came to me alone, from Germany, where they were ready to accept me at my expense. Then our chemists were actively recruited abroad, and many left. But it was necessary to know the ways, the laboratories that announced competitions. Now I tell all my young employees: it’s good if a scientist goes abroad for a year or two, looks and learns. But then you still have to return, because every person should have a homeland.
Six dollar salary
In the 1990s, one had to survive somehow. Almost immediately after graduate school, I started working as a teacher, became an assistant at my department of inorganic chemistry. I had to prepare five new courses, and here the Komsomol hardening helped me. They didn’t pay anything for science then, and they don’t pay anything now, but at least you can get additional grants. I received my first 500 dollars from the American Chemical Society, which held a competition among Russian scientists, at 1994 year. Considering that my salary was six dollars, it was gigantic money. In 1994 I became a senior lecturer, in 1996 I became an assistant professor, and in 1998 I defended my doctoral dissertation. Then it was quite unusual to defend oneself at the age of 32, usually dissertations were written after 40 years. I defended both candidate and doctoral theses at the Moscow Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Foundation for the laboratory
I defended my Ph.D. thesis as a classical chemist, that is, I synthesized coordination compounds in the laboratory, I was under pressure, and almost all of my work was experimental. And then he left the experiment altogether, because he considered that it was time to do real science. In my view, it was a search for some patterns and the creation of a theory. Still, science must predict something, predict.
Then my friend Alexander Shevchenko, who graduated from our faculty four years later than me, and I began to create the very complex of ToPoS programs that brought us wide popularity. The main idea was to automate the geometric and topological analysis of crystals to the maximum, to help a person in the analysis of experimental information, which was already abundant at that time, it was impossible to manually process this volume.
In 1993, we published the first message on ToPoS. This work created the basis for the laboratory, the current International Research Center for Theoretical Materials Science of the Polytechnic University, where we do many other things. In 2000, I received the first Russian grants – from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and a grant for young doctors of science, I was able to launch a serious ToPoS development project.
And three years later we met Professor of Chemistry at the University of Milan, Doctor of Chemistry Davide Proserpio, who is now our scientific consultant. It turned out that I can solve many of his problems, and since then we have not only closely cooperated, but also are truly friends. In 2009, he and I won an Italian grant, though on the third try. They would not undertake the fourth, they would decide that it was not destiny.
Social experiment
I generally believe in fate, in a higher power that organizes the world. There is no contradiction here: science deals with the material, and faith plays a role in the spiritual realm. They have nothing to do with each other. A person must have faith in what he is doing. If so, then with a very high degree of probability he will overcome all problems and be able to lead others.
I set up a kind of social experiment in Samara: is it possible in a scientific province, relying only on its own personnel, without attracting additional well-known scientists, to create a laboratory that works at a normal world level without any discounts. Now I can definitely say: yes, it can be done. And if this is possible in Samara, then it is possible anywhere in Russia, if there is a desire, strength and goals.
We have more than enough talented guys. But the disorientation of young people is getting in the way. Many do not see stability, do not know where to go after graduation, do not feel that they will be needed here in five to ten years. Therefore, the main goal of our center is to create a kind of portal for students to enter big science.
Now this is a unique division in the Samara region, which does not receive federal funding. We have 25 people on staff, along with service personnel, and we exist on the money that we earn ourselves. Today, more than ten grants from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Russian Science Foundation are being implemented, and this is enough to pay a decent salary to employees. Eight more applications have been submitted. I believe in the future of Russian science, as well as in the future of the country, I was and remain an optimist.

Master’s degree: why is it needed
A master’s degree is the second stage of higher education after a bachelor’s degree. Is it a waste of time or a ticket to life? Let’s figure it out.
PhD – Doctor of Philosophy is the most common academic degree awarded at the end of doctoral studies. In this article, we will look at what it gives, how to apply for a PhD program abroad, and what is the difference between Western and Russian doctoral studies.
What is doctoral studies
Doctorate ( Doctorate ) is the final stage of university education in the Bologna Process. Upon graduation, you are awarded a certain degree, one of which is PhD. After doctoral studies, you can also get EdDDoctor of Education (USA), DMLDoctor of Modern Languages, JSDDoctor of Juridical Science and other qualifications. All Doctorate programs fall into two broad categories: PhD and professional doctoral studies.
PhD
PhD programs differ from professional doctoral studies in that they focus on original research and analysis. You will learn how to work with scientific literature and interact with the academic community. This does not mean that a PhD graduate is obliged to build a career at the university. People who have received a Ph.D. degree work as researchers in large companies. There are also areas where a PhD is required to hold a high position, such as law or public administration.

History of PhD
“What does philosophy have to do with it?” is the first question that is asked by any person who first learned the decoding of PhD. In Russian, the word “philosophy” came from the ancient Greek φιλοσοφία . Literally, it means “love of wisdom”.
If we look at the work of the philosophers of Ancient Greece, we will find an unthinkable breadth of the research field. There you will find treatises on public administration, reflections on God and law, the first concepts of the universe, works on physiology, medicine, and much more. As you can see, the original understanding of the word “philosophy” was extremely blurred and included absolutely everything.
Only in the Middle Ages, three independent sciences separated from it: theology, medicine and law. The rest of the disciplines were still called philosophy, and its subject matter was still just as vague, from astronomy to literature. At that time, university students were issued doctoral degrees (from lat. Doceo “I teach”) in four disciplines: philosophy (PhD), theology (DD), medicine (MD) and law (JD). The names of these degrees have survived to this day.
Professional doctorate
Professional doctorate ( professional doctorate ) prioritizes practice but does not exclude the element of research. Unlike PhD programs, professional doctoral studies teach a person the skills needed in a particular specialty. The difference is clearly visible in the names of the degrees. “Doctor of Philosophy” sounds broad, but the titles of professional doctoral studies are more specific and reflect a specific field of activity. For example, Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD).
Professional doctoral programs are designed for people who usually already have work experience in some area. Of course, this is not a universal rule. People with a PhD in the same way get a job in non-scientific fields, and after a professional doctorate, you can teach. How to study for a PhD free of charge
Assistantship. The first opportunity is to receive payments for teaching, research assistance and in the department. Similar programs are common in many foreign universities. They are in the USA, Germany, Japan and other countries. Usually several applicants apply for the position of an assistant. To get it, you must have a high level of knowledge and experience within the discipline, as well as find a supervisor in advance. The decision to award a scholarship is made on the basis of how the student’s research interests and project correspond to the activities of the department.
Private and public scholarships. The advantage of doctoral studies over other degrees in more scholarships available. For example, if you want to study in France, you can find grants in your home country (Global Education program), in the host country (Eiffel Scholarship) or get help from special funds (grant from the Francophonie University Agency). How to apply for doctoral studies
The process of admission to the PhD program depends on the specific university and country. In most cases, students apply directly to the university for a specific department (through a personal account on the university website). Before entering, we advise you to carefully study the teaching staff, read the scientific works of employees, find information about laboratories and university projects.
Documents for admission
The general list of documents for admission to PhD is as follows:
Diploma of previous education. To enter doctoral studies, you must provide a master’s degree, usually in the same discipline. There are countries that allow admission immediately after a bachelor’s degree, such as the United States and Canada. Another option is a doctoral program mixed with a master’s program in a 3+1 format. In this case, the student first takes a one-year course and receives a master’s degree, and then continues his studies for a PhD. This route is available in the USA, Canada, Germany and Denmark.
High GPA. The GPA of your previous diploma should be as close as possible to an “excellent” mark. On our five-digit scale, it is desirable to have 4.5 and above. Each country has its own system, so grades will have to be translated according to their standards.
Language certificate. If you are applying to a foreign university, you will need to prove your level of language proficiency. The exact requirements are set by the university itself, but most often they are not lower than C1-C2. For English, you must pass the TOEFL iBT exam at 90-100 or IELTS for 7.0-7.5 points. The same applies to any other foreign language taught in the country of your choice. To study in France, you need DALF, in Germany – TestDаF for programs in German, in Spain – DELE, and so on.
Standardized tests. If you are considering a program in one of the Anglo-Saxon countries (USA, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand), as well as in Asian countries, you will most likely need a GRE or GMAT. These are two almost identical exams that test math and analytical skills. Some countries have other additional tests. For example, in US medical schools you need to pass the MSAT, and in law schools you need to pass the LSAT.
Research plan – research proposal. Another condition for those who enter doctoral studies. How detailed it should be depends on the university. But in any case, we advise you to approach the plan responsibly: correctly highlight the theses, goal, tasks, methods, hypothesis, and so on. Consult with your current supervisor or colleagues.
Recommendations. For admission, you will need 2-3 letters of recommendation, one of which must be written by your supervisor. If you are applying for a professional doctoral program, you should ask your supervisor for a recommendation. The content of such a letter is not regulated, but should describe you from the outside: evaluate skills, attitude to work, leadership qualities. Don’t be afraid if your negative features are indicated in the recommendation – they give the text objectivity.
Resume or CV. These two documents are slightly different. Which one is needed, and whether it is needed at all, should be checked on the university website. As a rule, the summary does not exceed one page and briefly describes the academic and professional experience of the candidate. CV, on the other hand, is a more detailed document without restrictions, which reveals your achievements and scientific interests.
Motivational letter. Its essence is to declare itself and tell what is the purpose of your research. The letter should indicate why you chose this discipline, why you are interested in it, and how studying in this particular department will help you. A motivation letter is a chance to reveal your personality and get to know the admissions committee.
In addition, some programs require an interview. If you are applying for a PhD in management, you will definitely need work experience.
Legalization and recognition of a diploma
To enter a doctoral program at a foreign university, you will also have to go through the procedure of legalization, that is, the recognition of a previous diploma. Its necessity is explained by the fact that different countries have different education systems and curricula. Even within the same direction, for example International Politics , they can vary dramatically.
The recognition procedure is not mandatory everywhere. There are states between which agreements on its abolition have been concluded. So, a Russian student does not need legalization to enter the Czech Republic or the University of Cyprus, but in the USA and Canada there is no way without it. Doctoral studies
Doctoral studies do not have a single schedule. Students are given a lot of free time to work on their final work. How training is carried out depends on several factors:
Research area. Humanities students tend to spend a lot of time reading related literature. Those who are engaged in social sciences work with statistics, create surveys, communicate with people. And naturalists often do experiments in laboratories. Note that “more often” does not mean “always”. A humanitarian in the same way can conduct a survey or an experiment, albeit not in a laboratory format. The use of methods from other sciences is extremely important – interdisciplinarity contributes to the development and expansion of the research field.
Year of study. The first course is the time for drawing up a dissertation plan, attending seminars and working with a large amount of literature. This is the period when the student gains theoretical knowledge and understands the topic. In the second year, he can get a job as a teacher and help in the department. Then the student receives the so-called assistantship – a salary for teaching, the amount of which covers the cost of training. This is a good experience for those who are planning to build an academic career. The third and fourth years are the most important stage – the direct writing and defense of the dissertation.
Scientific adviser. Meetings with a mentor are a mandatory part of the doctoral schedule. But how often you will see each other depends on you personally and the teacher. Some insist on regular interaction, while others only need to unsubscribe once every six months.
Doctoral studies end with the defense of a dissertation. The requirements for it are approximately the same in all countries:
The dissertation is written on the basis of an original, independently conducted research. Its topic is usually agreed before admission or in the first year of study with the supervisor.
Graduation work must be relevant and in demand. Quite often, books and scientific articles are written on the basis of doctoral dissertations.
Volume of work – 100-300 pages. At the same time, at least a third will be a synthesis, that is, not a retelling of sources, but the author’s thoughts on the issue under study.
Not all students complete their doctoral thesis. And many stretch writing from the prescribed three to five or even eight years.

One of the classic post-PhD scenarios is to start an academic career. Many graduates continue to work at the same university where they studied. Foreign countries differ in the number of steps in an academic career, but in general, the path from a “fresh” PhD to a seasoned teacher abroad looks like this:
Postdoc / junior research fellow. In some countries, a postdoc enters into a temporary work contract, teaches and receives a salary, in others he studies on a scholarship or grant. The postdoctoral student continues his research, publishes scientific papers and gains experience. This lasts 2-3 years.
Teaching Assistant / Associate Professor. University position. As a rule, an associate professor conducts lectures and seminars for bachelors and can become their supervisor. But not for masters, because he does not have enough qualifications for this.

Between the indicated degrees there are others that are characteristic of a particular country. For example, lecturers, senior researchers, adjunct professors and others. You can also work as a visiting teacher and give lectures during the allotted time, combining them with other work [4] .
Work in the specialty
After doctoral studies, it is not at all necessary to become an academician. This is especially true for those who have graduated from a professional program. According to British company Prospects they help graduates get jobs, in 2020 only 22% of PhD students in England went on to an academic career. The other part got a job in the specialty [5] . There are enough employment options, here are a few as an example:
Consultant. You can become a consultant or adviser, for example in business and politics. These two “practical” worlds are in dire need of a theoretician’s perspective.
Analyst. The ability to work with a large amount of data, systematize them, critically assess the situation, model the outcome of events – all these skills are available to a person who has completed a doctoral program. And they will be useful in the work of the analyst. This may be a full-time position in a company or a job at think tank think tank.
Entrepreneur. Creating your own business is also an idea. In the same area in which you received education, or in a completely different area. Business has no boundaries.
Civil servant . You can use the knowledge gained in doctoral studies for the benefit of the people and work in the government. Moreover, this does not require DPDoctor of Public Administration at all. For example, one of the former prime ministers of Belgium, Elio Di Rupo, has a doctorate in chemistry.
Journalist (work in scientific publications). Also a great option for those who are no longer doing full-time research, but have retained the desire to write about science and educate other people.
PhD is a great achievement in life, but not the only one. Unfortunately, not all employers appreciate the theoretical knowledge and high level of education of the candidate. There are positions where experience is most important. How do you convince them to give you a chance? Lack of practice can partially cover developed soft skills. Pay attention to this while studying at the university. Do not only science, but also “pump” the ability to interact with people, creative thinking, time management, conflict-free communication, teamwork. These skills will be useful to you in life, no matter what career path you choose.
Doctoral studies in Russia and abroad
Although Russia is participating in the Bologna process, our higher education still has its own characteristics. One of them is a two-tier system of academic degrees. If there is only doctoral studies abroad, then in Russia postgraduate studies go first and then doctoral studies. The first gives the degree of Candidate of Science, and the second – Doctor of Science.
It turns out that if you become a PhD abroad, then in Russia you will be called not a doctor, but a candidate of sciences. The doctorate degree has no direct foreign analogues. The nearest is a habilitated doctor – Dr. habil . This qualification is available in some European countries (Germany, France, Austria and others). It is awarded to a PhD as a result of his research activities – the defense of a second dissertation, as in Russia, is not required.

In this regard, Thomas Hewitt (Bryniarski), a thirty-year-old mentally retarded big man, was left without a job, and his closest (adopted, however) relatives – without food. Soon, however, both work and food were found – in the form of random passers-by and passers-by. For example, two brothers from Nebraska, whom their girlfriends were escorting to Vietnam (for some reason, through Texas), and one was going to desert along the way, but right at the moment of burning the military ID, the car crashed into a cow. This is where the real insanity began.
There are probably curious people who have dreamed all their lives to see Hewitt first use a chainsaw and find out exactly under what circumstances he got the nickname Leatherface, but there are no surprises, the circumstances are quite predictable. The prequel, perhaps, satisfies a purely scientific interest, but on the whole it does not deviate one iota from the standard scheme: they arrived, ran, died. Five years ago, when horror cinema seemed to be degrading into insipid entertainment for the whole family, such fidelity to tradition and frankness in showing dismemberment was greeted with standing ovations, and even “Massacre” in 2003 still looked pretty fresh. But then the principle of the pendulum worked: cheap slashers are now released almost weekly, and every film school graduate is trying to outdo his rivals by mechanically increasing the number of released guts. It’s time to admit: tired. In particular, the new “Chainsaw”, made by a certain young director with the money of Michael Bay, is no longer scary, but stupid and disgusting. In homeopathic doses, sadism can excite, shock, but an extra step – and the monotonous vile pornography of violence begins. You can’t even send these guys to see a psychiatrist – they’re all right in the head; okay if they reveled in suffering, there would be something to talk about, but this slaughterhouse is just fulfilling a business plan, nothing personal.

Best reviews of the film “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Beginning” this terrible movie. So he turned out to be nastier than the previous part. A sea of blood, a psychopathic jerk with a saw, a false sheriff, you could not look at all this.
After watching the movie, I went out of my mind. It is better to go, as my friend and I came to this conclusion, to a comedy. And it’s better not to go to such films at all.

The beginning of the leather face story. For some reason, it begins with childbirth, and not with conception. I wonder who is the father of this bloodthirsty maniac and such a brave guy that he climbed on a centner woman. Whatever it was, the baby was thrown into the trash, and the family of idiots found him and raised him as his own. Feel sorry for the boy too. He was expelled from work, the slaughterhouse was closed, the guy went berserk. Together with his generous family, they began to catch young skinny people for food. What for ? After all, they had a fat relative with glasses, whose meat could be eaten for six months. As usual, young people go somewhere on business, then to a concert, now to Vietnam. They create noise on the road and invite themselves to visit the sheriff. And then, as always, they suffered and went to the soup.

chainsaw is indeed the main character of this film. the duration of the film could have been easily put into 40 minutes instead of 90, throwing out all this canoe about the “becoming” of little Tommy on the path of a carver on human skin. if someone doubted that this pain in his soul is innate – welcome “… to the beginning of the session, don’t be late …”. Comparison with the previous part (not to mention the original) picture does not stand absolutely. mainly by the dynamics of the plot – what the hell was it to leave the last 10 corpses for the final 25 minutes of the film, when in the first hour they kill at most 5 (to be honest, I can only remember 3 for sure) ??? although, to be honest, this time the authors showed a little imagination in terms of bringing sheep to the slaughter of a chainsaw. what pleased – thanks to the success of the previous part, it was possible to attract normal actors to the second part (more precisely, minus the first, read on). I was sincerely sorry for Jordan Brewster, and the childhood idol, “rocker” Lee Tergesen (remember the series “Wonders of Science”?) was a pleasure to watch. not to mention the fact that blondes with big boobs have finally returned to American horror films …))) it’s a pity that the film didn’t repeat the box office success of the “original”, therefore, in the part that will be between the previous and the current one (and it will definitely be , because this film does not end at the place where the next one begins, which would be quite logical, isn’t it?) Actors of even this level, unfortunately, are not expected. okay, at least, there is still in the states of Silicon Valley, yes, the states of Texas and California – there is where actors and actresses can come from))

Finally, all the pieces of the puzzle are in place. The motive is clear, the story is known, the denouement is clear. The only thing left is HOW. How will everyone die? In this regard, the film does not fail and will not disappoint. Each death is memorable, bright (and I’m talking about death! :)), penetrating through the picture, causing a storm of applause.
Yes, the film is cruel (and what a cruel one!). Yes, the movie is predictable (not The Sixth Sense for sure!). Yes, it is dark and dramatic (do not expect positive). But that’s exactly what Texas Chainsaw Massacre fans wanted and got. Michael Bay along with Liebesman gives us a masterpiece of the horror genre. Whoever has nerves is naughty, I would not recommend watching the film – it will demolish the attic … But although … look at your health! Let’s all go crazy from what we saw and felt! After all, the more violence a person contemplates, the more it repels him (if the person is mentally healthy, of course). Personally, I prefer violence on screen to violence in real life (especially mine!).
May the saws be with you (…or what about Lucas?).

I’m sorry, I haven’t watched such perfect shit for a long time. The movie is boring, not scary and predictable. They unsuccessfully try to replace the aesthetics and plot in this picture with scenes of butchering “live carcasses”, but nothing remains except for an unpleasant aftertaste.

Nursery Rhymes provide enriching play experiences and activities from which the children can learn and grow. We base our approach using elements of the Montessori program, the developing through play concept of the ECE as well as the open creativity and individuality offered in the Reggio Emilia approach. We were so fortunate to find Nursery Rhymes when we needed a daycare for our first child. The daycare staff are attentive and passionate about taking care of the kids. They really try to work with you to accommodate each child’s needs such as being flexible with our child’s nap schedule. The activities are always creative and provide lots of opportunity for the children to explore, play and learn. We’re really happy that they have a 3-5 yr program and when our son was ready, they transitioned him into the older program with no issues. They were also instrumental in preparing him for Kindergarten. When we were expecting our second child, we knew right away that Nursery Rhymes would be our preferred choice. We are at ease when we leave our child with them knowing that she will be happy and in good hands, a fact that is reinforced by her not wanting to leave when we pick her up.

We can’t say enough positive things when it comes to Nursery Rhymes Daycare. The staff are exceptionally warm, kind hearted and knowledgable. Our oldest child started in 2014 and now we have a second who is currently attending. We feel at ease knowing our children have always been in good hands and are genuinely cared for. The environment and activities the children do are fun, educational and engaging. Our children are excited to go. We feel our oldest became very well rounded and prepared for kindergarten because of her experience at Nursery Rhymes. The staff also know how/when to communicate discipline as well. It can be daunting to a parent, especially when your first born goes off on their own. Knowing that Nursery Rhymes staff are there put any apprehensions we had at ease within the first few days.

When it came time to look into a daycare for our older child over 4 years ago now I was very happy to meet the staff at Nursery Rhymes Daycare. They put my mind at ease and showed so much love and attention to our child. The pictures sent throughout the day helped my anxiety of being away from my child and felt close to them when I could not be. The activities they do with the girls and boys all day long are really interesting and stimulate the children’s mind and imagination. The children get outside time everyday which is great for them. My younger child also now attends Nursery Rhymes Daycare and we knew it was the obvious choice when it came time to apply as we were so happy with their care and attention to the children. Not every child can patiently listen to the end of a fairy tale or other prose story. Whereas children’s poems do not tire with monotony, the rhyme in them jumps as if over bumps, easily holding the attention of a small listener. It’s amazing how quickly children memorize rhymes, it’s worth saying a few times, as they already agree on the ending with you. Be sure to use this ability, training memory from childhood, you will greatly simplify your child’s schooling. How to learn a poem for the holiday?

After pushing the youth aside, they approached Larry’s counter with Lily. One of them grabbed a girl by the collar with lightning speed, kissed her, and then lightly bit her neck. The girl trembled in ecstasy.
Lily was anxious, but Larry was delighted. It was true glamour, the epitome of what went on in the closed rooms of the most exclusive clubs. After looking around the counter, the strangers nodded, put on sunglasses, exchanged glances with each other, and smiled approvingly at Larry. nine0003
Raising their cloaks high, they hid what was happening from the common public. In the blink of an eye, Larry’s leather jacket and shirt were torn off. The smiles and teeth of strangers looked exactly like on the emblem of the House of Myrna.
Larry’s eyes widened. A thin trickle of blood ran down his chest. Even when the strangers had already left the market, he continued to look after them, not even noticing how Lilia dressed him again.

Larry was mesmerized and confused. Lilia knew that he was always drawn to fame, to high society, and he somehow managed to make connections in the right circles. Now he was accepted into a special, legendary company.
Throughout the week, Larry was aloof and distracted. He got on Lilia’s nerves, she in turn irritated him. The following Sunday they brought the last of Myrna’s House to the market and whatever they had left to sell.

When the creatures of the night surrounded Larry, Lilia protested, saying they were making him look like an idiot. In response, Larry pointed to her. She turned to see who had bitten her, but the sudden movement made her head spin. Lilia tried different drugs, but none had the same effect. The sensations were like from a mixture of heroin and LSD. As a result, he and Larry remained in a trance until the next morning.
When they came to their senses, they studied the list of people left to them by Mirna. All these people were very old, frail, as if ready to go to the next world at any moment. But their eyes were penetrating, and their fangs were sharp. All had collections of memorabilia that they were ready to part with. From Larry’s breast pocket, instead of a handkerchief, stuck out a napkin from Myrna’s House with the emblem on display. Lily wondered what excuse Larry had come up with for Boyd. Taxis drove past every now and then, young people walked in groups in search of clubs open until late. On the weekend before the equinox, Saturday twilight comes late and Sunday mornings come early. Once upon a time, things in the store were really different. “A real treasure!” shouted an advertisement in the Village Voice. “The Fashion Store Isn’t for Your Mom—Nor for Your Dad,” read the headline in the New York Magazine shortly after the Treasury opened in the early 1980s.

Meet Amber Simmons! She is the Center Director at Constitution KinderCare in Aurora, Illinois. Amber attended Waubonsee Community College, where she earned an associate degree in Early Childhood Education. She has been with KinderCare for twenty years. Starting as a babysitter at age twelve, she has always had a passion for working with children. Amber is deeply devoted to nurturing creative minds. Outside of work, Amber enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and hanging out by the pool.

Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)
Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.
Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)
Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.
Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)
This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.
Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)
This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!
Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)
When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.
Before- and After-School Programs (5–12 Years)
You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!
School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)
Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.
Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program
Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)
In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!
Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)
KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.
Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)
Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)

Everybody’s schedule is different. We’re happy to offer quality, affordable part-time and full-time

Are meals included in tuition? Can I choose to send my child with lunch?
We provide nutritious meals and snacks developed by a registered dietician to meet the needs of rapidly growing
bodies and minds. If your child has special dietary requirements and you would prefer to bring in
their lunch, please make arrangements with the center director.
Do you support alternative diets?
We strive to be as inclusive as possible. To that point, we provide a vegetarian option at mealtime,
take care to not serve common allergens and can adapt menus based on your child’s food
sensitivities. If your child has additional needs, we’ll work with you to figure out a plan.
Does my child need to be potty-trained?
Every child begins toilet learning at a different age. Until your child shows an interest in toilet
learning, we’ll provide diaper changes on an as-needed basis. When your child shows an interest,
we’ll discuss how to work
together to encourage toilet learning.
How does naptime work at Constitution KinderCare?
Our teachers meet every child’s needs during naptime. Our teachers know how to get babies to nap.

At KinderCare Learning Centers, your child’s safety is one of our
top priorities. Not only are all of our outside perimeter doors
locked to ensure security, but all of our playgrounds have six foot
security fences enclosing the full play-yard. Our staff is
certified in First Aid and CPR. We also have a Health
and Safety Coordinator on site to ensure that fire and tornado
drills are done monthly, certifications are up to date, as well as
ensuring that we are maintaining high cleanliness standards.

The Gibbs Cancer Center at Pelham groundbreaking is scheduled Thursday at 10 a.m. The cancer center, which will mirror the Gibbs Center at Spartanburg Regional, will be built on the left side of the Village Hospital and have a walking bridge connecting both buildings.
A $6 million Gibbs Center facility was opened in Gaffney recently to serve Cherokee County cancer patients. The Greer facility will offer patients the same multidisciplinary care available at the Spartanburg Regional Gibbs Cancer Center.
