We accept ELC and VPK Vouchers! Need help registering?

VPK Voucher

Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) is a free program aimed to prepare four-year-old children for kindergarten and build the foundation for their educational success. VPK is available to all four-year-olds born on or before September 1 who reside in Florida, regardless of family income.

ELC School Readiness Voucher

The School Readiness program is a financial assistance program for working families with low incomes and those with children at risk of abuse, neglect, or future school failure.  What the School Readiness program can do for your family. Supports families in accessing and affording quality child care, helps families become economically self-sufficient. Parents are provided with information on child development and family well-being, involves parents as their child’s first teacher. Children are prepared to enter kindergarten ready to learn, which builds a foundation for success in life.

Speech therapist in kindergarten. An equilateral triangle (speech therapist, teacher, parent) – Kindergarten and child

The triangle is considered one of the most stable geometric shapes. And it is precisely these stability and reliability that become important in the interaction of a speech therapist, educator and parents of the child. A speech therapist in a kindergarten, a teacher and parents are like three sides of a stable triangle, inside which a kindergarten kid has comfortably settled down. And since this triangle is equilateral, the contribution of each side is important and significant.

A child with various speech disorders initially is not in a very advantageous position in relation to others. After all, we learn the world largely through speech. By telling, explaining, asking, the boy or girl learns, develops and grows. And what is left for a child whose speech is not perfect? Playing alone, isolation, the desire to avoid communication. And as a result – problems in mastering the dictionary, building lexical and grammatical structures, in coherent speech. Vicious circle?

No, no… There is a better figure. In this case, the task of the parents, the speech therapist of the kindergarten and the educator is to combine efforts to achieve a common goal – to help the child step into the world of correct, beautiful speech and get used to it as successfully as possible.

Parents, attention!

As a rule, mothers perfectly understand their baby, no matter how badly and slurredly he speaks. But you need to be objective – if up to 3 years old the child does not pronounce syllables, words and short phrases (“mom, give me”), does not follow a simple instruction (bring the ball), does not repeat onomatopoeia (dog – av-av), then this is a reason to think and contact a specialist.

Speech therapy consultations are available at the polyclinic, where several speech therapists work (from an early age to three years and a specialist working with older children). a speech therapist in kindergarten , who conducts a speech therapy examination of all children of the institution, can also consult. At the speech therapy center of the garden, a speech therapist takes children to classes in kindergarten from 6 (less often 5) years. You can also contact specialists in medical or development centers.

Get your way! If suddenly you hear the phrase – “wait, it’s too early to talk about something now”, seek advice from one or more specialists. Don’t be passive and indifferent. The sooner you notice a problem, the easier it will be to fix it.

It is the caregiver who spends most of the time with the child. He hears the speech of the baby, sees the features of his behavior, has the opportunity to compare the sound pronunciation of children. Do not brush it off, they say, “it will pass by itself”… The sooner the child is provided with professional assistance, the less time he will be in a “situation of failure”. But any parent wants only success for his son or daughter, right?

So, the speech disorder was revealed, the diagnosis was made. Speech therapist in kindergarten invites the baby’s parents to an individual conversation or to a general meeting (in a speech therapy kindergarten). Here the two sides get to know each other and ways of further work are outlined. A lot depends on how well-coordinated the interaction will be.

This is your child. And his problems become your common problems.

And do it with the child, not for him. In a notebook, everything can be very correct and accurate, and the kid in the lesson will not be able to answer the teacher’s question. No need to arrange a cult out of the task, be too strict and demanding. Practice casually, in a game, on your way home, in the car, in the bathroom. Such lessons will not strain, which means they will not cause negativity.

  • Work out together.

The child will be more willing to do the exercises with his mother, father, grandfather or grandmother. After all, the company is more fun!

If you do not understand something in the explanations of a specialist, take the time to come to the kindergarten for a consultation. It is better to ask and do the right thing than to correct inaccuracies later.

The child is not always aware of the need for speech therapy. Lack of speech may not significantly interfere with his communication with the children in the group. Why bother with something that isn’t too obvious? Let the kid earn fives or stickers, and by typing some of them and something more valuable – a toy, a gift.

  • Be active.

Participate with your child in the life of a group, garden. You can take part in the competition, make a developing book for an exhibition with your child, crafts for the holiday. Even the usual visit to children’s performances is very important. Children should understand that their loved ones are important successes and achievements of kids.

This type of work allows you to maintain constant contact with a specialist, identify the strengths and weaknesses of the correction process, and control the result.

Now you can find a huge amount of all kinds of developing literature and correctional aids for working with children. Do not buy everything in a row, thoughtlessly and indiscriminately. Talk to your teacher and speech therapist. Specialists will guide you, suggest that book or workbook that will definitely benefit the baby, and not only please you with bright pictures. In some kindergartens you can find special catalogs of educational aids. In these catalogs, as a rule, prices and places of sale are indicated, which will significantly save your time, which can be usefully spent communicating with your child.

It is this form of interaction that allows you to better understand what benefits your child is studying, how he works in class. It will give an opportunity to assess its strengths and weaknesses from the outside.

Read and study materials on various speech disorders and how to overcome them. Only in this way can you become active subjects of the correctional process, assistants to a speech therapist and educator.

Talk, discuss, argue, explain…

Don’t be afraid. “The road will be mastered by the walking one.” And this road will not seem so long and scary if you do not go along it alone.

It is very important when a third party, an educator, joins the speech therapist-parent tandem.

Kindergarten teachers build their lessons in kindergarten, taking into account the topics studied with children by a speech therapist. The main vocabulary work is carried out by a speech therapist, while the teacher forms the necessary level of knowledge on the vocabulary topic in children during walks, in drawing, modeling and construction lessons.

The teacher teaches children to clearly express their requests, desires, answer questions with a beautiful full sentence, and follow various instructions. It is the educator who encourages the children to speak and necessarily encourages the child to take the initiative to speak out, expands the content of the conversation with questions, and creates interest in the topic of conversation among other children.

A speech therapist in kindergarten, together with teachers, works to familiarize children with new words, clarify their meanings and activate the dictionary, selects lexical material for certain topics.

The teacher conducts classes to clarify the movements of the organs of the articulatory apparatus – speech gymnastics for the development of the muscles of the lips and tongue. He tries to correct the incorrect pronunciation of children, since a sufficient level of self-control at this age has not yet been developed. Such work is carried out both directly in speech and on the material of nursery rhymes, tongue twisters, and rhymes specially selected together with a speech therapist.

The teacher prepares holidays in the kindergarten, taking into account the recommendations of the speech therapist on the selection of works for each particular child. If a rhyme learned especially for mom turns out to be difficult or slurred, it will only upset both mother and child. Such situations can be avoided with the help of a correct teacher.

However, at the same time, the educator does not duplicate the work of a speech therapist, but only supplements and deepens it. A speech therapist forms primary speech skills in children with various language disorders, and the educator strengthens them on a daily basis.

And it is the teacher who becomes the link between the kindergarten speech therapist and the children’s parents. Unfortunately, mothers and fathers are not always able to get a consultation with a specialist. And the educator, meeting and seeing off the children, can talk with parents, talk about what has been done, advise what to pay attention to in the near future, convey the recommendations of a speech therapist.

This is such a wonderful triangle! Remove any side from the correction process, and the work will fall apart. Therefore, on the contrary, try to strengthen your stable figure of helping the child, jointly create a single space for his speech development. Only by joining forces can ignorance of the plans and intentions of all three parties be avoided. And this is the only way to grow a harmonious and happy personality from a little restless little rascal.

Parent, Educator, Speech therapist!
The triangle will protect everyone from troubles
Equal-sided stone wall,
And you won’t break them one by one.
They stand as a mountain for the happiness of the baby —
The soul develops in unity!

The author is a speech therapist Evgenia Zaichenko.

What names can be considered modern? The ones that are most common now? The ones that are popular with parents of newborns? The ones that came out recently? Of course, all three statements will be correct, and parents choosing a name for their child usually understand what they want.

Modern Russian names are a large and diverse set, which has increased especially strongly over the past hundred years:

  • Christian names have been in the lead for many years. The most famous names from this list are Maria, Anna, Anastasia, Alexander, Maxim, Ekaterina, Sofia.
  • Orthodox names that were in use before the events of 1917, after which there was also a revolution in naming – Trofim, Matvey, Evdokia, Seraphim.
  • European names, more commonly used among Catholics, but currently recognized among the Russian population – Diana, Eva, Angelina, Albert, Daniel, Herman.
  • Slavic names – Vladimir, Yaroslav, Milan, Yesenia, Arina.

In the category of modern names, one could also add a large number of rare names, interest in which is now being revived. An increasing number of parents are trying to find for their child not a widespread name, and at the same time not quite the rarest, but one that everyone would know and understand, but would rarely meet in their lives. An example of such names can be Praskovya, Khariton, Tryphon.

You also need to understand that each nation has its own concept of modernity, and in Russia there are many people of different nationalities with different religions. Each nation has its own traditions and preferences, so it is impossible for everyone to make a single list.

Beautiful modern names

Everyone has a different idea of what can be called a delicious dish, and opinions about which of the names can be called beautiful also differ. But still there is one feature that is steadily traced among different peoples and at different times: beautiful female names are most often called those that sound melodious and gentle, in which there are few sharp sounds, they are melodious.

But beautiful modern male names are the complete opposite of female ones, for the most part they are sonorous, clear, a little harsh. But there are exceptions that find their admirers. For example, the male names Liam or William are quite popular at the moment, but they sound softer than Mark or Geoffrey, who are also of interest. At the same time, people of different nationalities can live in one country, take at least Russia, so there can be no consensus on which names can be called both modern and beautiful at the same time.

Beautiful names

Modern girl names (female)

The greatest variety can be found among female names. These can be the names of flowers (Lily and Dahlia), natural phenomena (Ainur, Eliana and Zarina), character traits (Catherine and Maria), government positions (Carolina) and more.

The most popular modern female name is Maria. Like the name Elena, it has a large number of analogues in different countries and has retained its relevance for several centuries. And vice versa, the name Emma is actively gaining fans around the world, which was once not considered a full-fledged name, but was used only as a short form of other female names.

You can choose a name for a girl both modern and non-traditional, but it is worth remembering that a girl is more reverent than a young man, she treats not only her appearance, but also her name. Too pretentious, unusual name can become a problem for her – this is how one of the site visitors described her feelings.

Boys’ names most often reflect various qualities that parents would like to see in their child. In this century, the parents of boys have a wider choice of names than even fifty years ago. So many modern names have different pronunciations, spellings, each of which carries its own message and adds something unique to the name. Here is an example of name transformation – Maximus, Maxim, and then Max. In the variety of English names, you can find an option for every taste. In this article, we will look at the main English female names and their meanings, and you can safely choose your favorite.

The choice of a name has long been taken seriously. It was believed that the meaning of a name can largely determine the fate of a person and the qualities of his character. But even today, much attention is paid to the meaning of the name and its origin.

Although English culture is more or less familiar to everyone and the names of famous people or heroes of films and books are heard, we rarely refer to their history and meanings. Therefore, it is doubly interesting to see how children are usually called in English culture, which English names for girls are rare and beautiful, what meanings they hide in themselves. You can read about popular male names in English here: Beautiful male names

Meaning of a name

Before choosing a name for a child, many people want to know the origin of the names and what they meant in their original form.

Let’s analyze popular female English names with translation. There may be different versions about their origin and meaning, and it is far from always possible to unambiguously establish the translation – we will give the most established meanings.

  • Melanie (Melanie): came from the Greek language and means “dark”
  • Florence (Florence): in Latin means “blooming”
  • Agatha (Agatha): in Greek meant “good”
  • Zoe (Zoe): in Greek meant “life”
  • Rebecca (Rebecca): originates in Hebrew and means “to bind, fasten”
  • Ruth (Ruth): translated from Hebrew as “friend”
  • Barbara (Barbara): from Greek – “alien”
  • Amanda (Amanda): derived from the Latin amandus – “worthy of love”
  • Victoria (Victoria): translated from Latin as “victory”
  • Irene (Irene): in Greek – “peace, tranquility”
  • Miranda (Miranda): from the Latin word mirandus (“wonderful”)
  • Bridget (Bridget): Irish name, which originally had the form Brighid meaning “exalted, enthusiastic”
  • Sophia (Sophia): translated from Greek as “wisdom”
  • Margaret (Margaret): from the Greek word for “pearl”
  • Katherine (Katherine): Greek name, the most common version of the meaning is “pure”
  • Deborah (Deborah): translated from Hebrew as “bee”
  • Vivian (Vivian): derived from the Latin vivus “live”
  • Emma (Emma): from Germanic names meaning “whole”

Some girls’ names in English have a transparent origin. Ruby (Ruby) is consonant with the word ruby (ruby) and is of Latin origin with the meaning “red”. And the name Harper (Harper), which was worn by the famous American writer Harper Lee (Harper Lee), originally served as a surname and referred to harpists (harp – harp).

Even easier to guess the meaning of such names as Daisy (Daisy) and April (April). The first repeats the word daisy (daisy), and the second – April (April), which, in turn, is associated with the Latin verb aperire “to open.” Both of these names began to be actively used in English no earlier than the 19th century.

Choosing names for girls in English, we pay attention to the meaning, it is not always possible to find out. And the point is not only that it is difficult to establish the history of the word: the meaning may simply be absent. Such an interesting story has a female name Vanessa (Vanessa). It was invented by Jonathan Swift (Jonathan Swift) for the poem “Cadenus and Vanessa”, combining the first letters of the name of his friend.

Royal names

If we are talking about the UK, for many, the first association with it is the royal family. Although politics has historically been the work of men, women have had their say as well. What beautiful female names in English do we meet at the royal court?

Perhaps one of the most important women in the history of Great Britain and the most famous queen is Queen Victoria. She ruled the country for over 60 years until 1901. Victoria is her first name. At birth, she was also given the middle name Alexandrina (Alexandrina). But the main one was Victoria, and it was it that was fixed in history: the era of her reign is called Victorian. Many geographical areas are named after the Queen, such as a city in Canada and a state in Australia. The name Victoria remains popular today.

The current Queen of Great Britain is Elizabeth II (Elizabeth II). Her full name sounds like Elizabeth Alexandra Mary (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary). Every element in it is a tribute to other members of the royal family. She was named Elizabeth after her mother, Alexandra after her great-grandmother, and Mary after her grandmother. Elizabeth II ascended the throne in 1952 and has already surpassed her famous predecessor, Queen Victoria, in terms of the length of her reign.

The name Diana is very popular in England. In the royal family, it was worn by Princess Diana, the first wife of Prince Charles. Often her name was abbreviated and simply called Lady Di (Lady Di).

In politics, influential English women are not only the royal family. One of the most significant politicians was Margaret Thatcher (Margaret Thatcher). She became the first woman in Europe to serve as prime minister.

Variants of names

It should not be forgotten that English names often have abbreviations that are very popular. As the example of Lady Di shows, abbreviations are used even in relation to government officials.

It often happens that abbreviated variants are fixed in the language and become independent names. For example:

  • Sandra (Sandra): an abbreviated version of Alexandra (Alexandra)
  • Stacy (Stacy): short for Anastasia (Anastasia)

In this case, the original version may be completely lost. For example, the form Alice (Alice / Alice) is derived from Adelaide (Adelaide), and in its original form the name sounded like Adalheidis.

Some names have different spellings. This is probably best seen in the forms Katherine / Catharine / Catherine / Catherina / Katharine / Katherina. Added to this diversity are abbreviations that can be used as a full name: Cat / Cathy / Kat / Kate / Kathie / Kathy / Katie / Kitty / Cate.

Masculine-feminine

In English, it is quite common to find names that can refer to both women and men, without any difference in form.

  • Ash
  • Cameron
  • Kerry (Kerry)
  • Kim (Kim)
  • Morgan (Morgan)
  • Parker (Parker)

Often this situation is typical for abbreviated versions. Therefore, beautiful English female names can be obtained, among other things, from the abbreviation of the male form.

  • Alex (Alex): short for the male name Alexander (Alexander) and the female Alexandra (Alexandra)
  • Billie (Billy): short for Bill (Bill) and the female form of the name William – Wilhelmina (Wilhelmina)
  • Chris (Chris): can be formed from Christopher (Christopher), Christian (Christian) or Christine (Christine / Christina)
  • Frankie (Frankie): from male Frank (Frank) or female Frances (Francis)
  • Jackie (Jackie): from Jack (Jack) or Jacqueline (Jacqueline)
  • Nat (Nat): a variant of the forms Nathan (Naten), Nathaniel (Nathaniel), Natalie (Natalie)
  • Robbie (Robbie): abbreviation of male Robert (Robert) or female Roberta (Robert)
  • Ronnie (Ronnie): can be formed from Ronald (Ronald) or Veronica (Veronica)
  • Sam (Sam): abbreviation of male Samuel (Samuel), Samson (Samson) or female Samantha (Samantha)
  • Steph (Step): a variant of Stephen (Stephen) or Stephanie (Stephanie)
  • Terry (Terry): formed from the male Terence (Terence) or the female Theresa / Teresa (Teresa)

Description:

I have a Bachelor’s in Music. My Master’s is in Early Childhood Education with Special Ed approval. Until budget cuts, I taught at an early learning center in West Chicago District #33. I have worked at daycare centers and had a licensed family childcare for 10 years. I have re-licensed my home for daycare. Being a mother has taught many life experiences that I use in the daycare.
I enjoy being part of a child’s learning and development. My activities and program are integrated with music, art, literacy, problem-solving, and outside activities. Pre-readiness skills are incorporated into all activities and I believe each child be given opportunities to take risks. This is when I observe children take steps in their development. There will be plenty of opportunities to practice getting along with others, sharing, cooperating and having empathy for others. Positive guidance, modeling, nurturing, interaction toward others, and an appropriate physical environment are strategies that help children grow.

    Boarding School Myths

As we have seen, one one of the most important responsibilities of parents is to find the right school for their children, given the decisive role of the school in shaping the relationship of the child and his embryonic personality to society and life in general. As a result, parents are extremely concerned about the development of their children and often turn to boarding schools to find what they are looking for. In making these decisions, they are often misled or discouraged by myths about boarding schools, especially boarding schools in New York City.

These pessimistic myths about boarding schools are spreading like wildfire, influencing parents’ decisions to send their children to such institutions. However, the myths that seem terrifying and frightening to most parents and students are nothing more than far-fetched fictions. Here are some myths that need to be debunked:

    Boarding exclusivity:

Most people think that boarding schools are for troubled or stubborn children who refuse to change their lifestyle. As a result, parents sent their troubled children to these boarding schools to receive help and perhaps grow into better children. However, it is not. Boarding schools use good facilities and curricula to focus on the development of all students, regardless of temperament.

Image of a boarding school as a place of detention:

Some ill-informed people believe that students are treated like prisoners and their classrooms are like prison cells. It’s hysterical, and it’s hard for me not to wake my neighbor with my laughter. Every school has a certain level of strictness when it comes to rules and regulations, and boarding school standards are far from prison standards. Residents are allowed to combine their personal activities and recreation with the approved system in schools.

We hope that now that the truth has been revealed, you will be able to make the best decision for your child.

This work provides a list of the best boarding schools in New York along with information on tuition fees, acceptance rates, and other factors to consider when making a decision.
