Love this school from the moment we walked in. The teachers are so welcoming and know everyone’s name. It really does feel like a family.

Verified Shopper

We absolutely love this school. My daughter has grown tremendously since she has been in attendance. We’ve only had positive interactions and only good things to say about all of the staff. I have peace of mind while I am at work because I truly feel my daughter is safe, nurtured and happy right where she is at. The teachers do an excellent job with these children!

Verified Shopper

The overall atmosphere and the teachers in the infant room have well exceeded our expectations. As children from stay at home parents, the approach to daycare was completely foreign and uncertain for us, but we couldn’t be happier with the team caring for our child!

Verified Shopper

Everyone is always so nice and polite when I’m there. The teachers really care about my son and you can tell he has a good relationship with them.

The cell phone came to life, and I decided to answer: maybe it’s Pen calling to find out why the hell I ran away from the hospital so quickly. But she didn’t call.

— Hello! Nikki said. Am I out of time?

Actually, Matty’s Honda is automatic, so I could easily drive with one hand, only at that moment and without chatting with Nikki, my head was spinning.

– To be honest, yes. I’ll call you, okay?

– Of course. Are you watching TV?

— No, I listen to the radio.

— Wonderful times have come, haven’t they? Okay, call back as soon as you can. Just don’t delay, you definitely need to find out! No, don’t call, I’m going to the Snow Queen. Let’s meet there!

— In Peckham? Nikki, I’m so tired…

– Great, we’ll move it to tomorrow. It’s your request… Personally, I would prefer not to put it off.

— Okay, we’ll see…

I threw my cell phone on the passenger seat. Westway isn’t far, so I’ll be right there. Having traveled around the overpass, I slowed down slightly: suddenly I ran into a post. There was nothing special in the surrounding area, but as I passed the White City stadium, about two hundred meters ahead, I noticed the flashing lights of patrol cars. Bingo, that’s where it all happened! Turning left, then right, I went around the kindergarten. The headlights of the “Honda” snatched out of the twilight haze either a swing, or a horizontal bar, or a slide; in the pitilessly bright light, they were not associated with their usual functions, but seemed to be sinister instruments of torture.

I mentally counted every meter left behind, but I saw the target before I even got close to the next turn. Ahead of them rose the red-brick wall familiar from the newscast, but the main landmark was the wide stretch above the road. “Whiteleaf Shopping Center” was written on it in beautiful slanted type with lots of curls. And below, and above, and around hung thick clouds of smoke, using the calm of the spring evening for their own purposes.

Turning off the headlights, I stopped at the curb. The street ahead was filled with cops, ambulances, and onlookers who decided to watch the drama unfold with their own eyes. I got out of the car, but I was in no hurry to mix with the crowd. How to get closer without attracting unnecessary attention?

I didn’t develop a specific plan for further actions, I just wanted to get into the building and see with my own eyes what was going on there. And I also wanted to rescue the altar girl Susan, with all her anxieties and doubts, from a terrible bedlam. In my opinion, the goals are quite modest. Let the police do the rest: after all, they get paid for it.

The crowd seemed to be quite dense, and even if I managed to squeeze through it, there was a police cordon along the entire facade. To the right, as far as the eye could see, it stretched along the entire street, probably to the post on Westway. To the left of the wall of the shopping center adjoined houses, the latter not at right angles, but like a skiff that collided with an ocean liner and, spinning like a boomerang, bounced off the high side. Apparently, nothing will work here …

No, the last house gave some opportunities. To the side of it was a garden, resting against the wall of the shopping center. I slipped through the gate, showing with all my appearance that I live here, and walked around the building on the left. In the depths, a fence was found, climbing over which was not the slightest difficulty, and behind it another garden, very conveniently closed from the house by several rows of clothes hung out to dry. Alas, among the duvet covers and pillowcases, a portly, horse-faced brunette bustled about, apparently determined to take them into the house. She was holding several clothespins in her mouth, but then I appeared – and the heavy jaw dropped. Clothespins fell out. To the frightened cry of the hostess, I ran to the brick wall that rose at the far end of the garden. Take off run – jump – and, pulling myself up, I climbed to the very top.

In front of me was the service area of the mall, where there were trucks with silver-red symbols. There were no policemen or criminals who seized the building. A loading dock a few meters away, the corrugated iron lift door only three-quarters closed. No sane thief would refuse such an invitation! I easily jumped to the other side, hearing heart-rending screams behind me.

– Arthur, Arthur, there’s a man here! We have a stranger in our yard!

Then a rough male voice was heard:

“What the hell is an outsider?! I don’t see any strangers!

After making sure that I was not being followed, I rushed to the landing stage. A truck was parked beside him, the back doors of the truck wide open, the loading ramp lowered. The cardboard boxes, apparently falling from an overturned pallet, splattered across the tarmac. Those who worked here were suddenly forced to take a break. Luckily, they fled when the riots began, but it is also possible that they were taken hostage. Damn, where am I going again?! Although it is too late to back down: prudence and sanity should have been shown at earlier stages.

I think the landing stage lift door can be opened by putting your hand under it and pressing it hard, but it is not known what kind of noise this will raise. No, it’s better to get on your knees and crawl through the gap.

Someone guard on the other side of the door, killing me would be easy. Yes, if you crawl like a turtle, you should not count on imperceptible penetration. However, in a long narrow room, lined up to the very ceiling with boxes and crates, armed with broken furniture, maniacs, fortunately, were not observed. Rising to my feet, I listened for a couple of minutes, but the silence seemed absolute. Obviously, the fighting was going on in another place.

After a couple of steps, I caught a lot of subtle sounds: heavy blows, screams, muffled by the distance to such an extent that, by closing my eyes, I could convince myself that I had come to a cricket match.

There was no door at the far end of the room, just a square arch leading to a larger warehouse. I moved slowly and carefully, feeling an unpleasant chill on my back every time I crossed the dark passage. Here is the elevator shaft, wide enough to fit both me and the Honda. The cockpit itself was not visible – the open doors revealed a well of gray cinder concrete that seemed bottomless.

I walked out of the warehouse to silent revolving doors that opened into a tiled corridor. Posters advertising half-price designer jeans and three hundred free minutes with a new phone made it clear that I had finally moved from the backroom to the mall itself.

I was hoping the hallway would lead me to the main passage, but instead I found myself in a dead end facing the toilets and the “Know Your Weight” machine. There was no noise at all here, but as soon as I decided to go back, another sense – the one I use during work – began to sound alarms. They followed my footsteps: it didn’t even take a nervous tremor in my fingers to understand that it was not a person approaching me, but a dead, resurrected, or someone worse. This one was heading straight for me. Another second, and he will turn the corner and be in my field of vision.

There was nowhere to go, so I silently retreated to the ladies’ room, pushed open the door, and slipped inside. Since this non-human has taken the trail, it will surely find me, but I will get at least a couple of seconds to prepare for the meeting.

My silver dagger is only good for fruit – like the chalice, I use it exclusively for ritual purposes. But in the pocket of the trench coat there was a knife thrown the night before by the loup-garou. Taking it out, I removed the cardboard cylinder from the intimidating blade, crouched by the door and waited.

The slabs echoed with approaching footsteps, and then there was an eerie silence. I imagined my pursuer standing and, straining all his instincts, decides in which of the toilets I hid – in the men’s or in the women’s.

The door has opened. Now it will close, and whoever I see, I will rush to the attack! But then I heard a sigh, tired and a little disappointed.

“Castor…

Confused, I limply dropped the knife, and Juliet, carefully closing the door, turned to me. Under a long leather cloak, a dress of scarlet silk – hell, not a succubus, but an armored rose! In the medieval Romance of the Rose, flower metaphors were used to hide obscenities from the watchful eye of the church. I thought about the blossoming buds and… mercilessly cut off the thoughts that would surely have knocked me off balance and taken me to distant distances.

    Motherhood in the Netherlands

Dutch woman Martier van Riet, HR manager and mother of a three-year-old daughter and an eight-month-old son, shared her experience with www.slate.com on how to successfully combine work, pregnancy and raising children.

    About work schedule
Both my husband and I work 32 hours a week with one day off. We have flexible schedules and can work from home. We also work evenings and weekends if our next business day starts later. We are not allowed to hire sick children. In this case, the children stay at home. nine0005

    About kindergartens and benefits
Our children go to kindergarten three times a week. We receive monthly compensation from the state, which depends on our income, working hours and the number of days the children attend kindergarten. By the way, all children’s institutions must be officially registered so that parents have the right to financial compensation. For a three-day visit, we pay 1,000 euros per child per month. If you conclude a contract for a five-day mode, it will cost 1660 euros per month. However, as I said, we receive compensation, which directly depends on the level of salary and the number of children. nine0005

    Parental help
Despite the fact that the Netherlands is a small country and the cities are very close to each other, the situation on the roads can be really terrible. Our parents live two hours away from us, but the trip is delayed if you get to rush hour. And yet, without their support, we would not have achieved what we have. When our daughter was born three years ago, we asked my mother and mother-in-law to help us with the baby at least one day a week. Thanks to this, I returned to work and worked a full five days. But when our son was born, we decided that I needed to reduce my working hours. nine0005

    About nannies
There are several types of nannies in the Netherlands. Some families hire a gastouder (“parent-guest”). She either takes care of the children in the family, or several families bring their babies to her home (usually up to 5 children). This parent-guest must be a qualified professional provided by a certified agency. This service is more expensive than kindergarten. When children start primary school, some families hire a nanny or governess for a few hours a day after school. In another case, children can attend special out-of-school children’s centers, from which compensation can also be received. nine0005

    About working dads
Today, many employers are very loyal to working dads. A few years ago it was different. The upbringing of children was perceived exclusively as a female prerogative. And today, young parents divide the function of raising their children in half. In our kindergarten you can meet both mothers and many fathers bringing their kids.

    Maternity leave and sexism
Mothers in the Netherlands can go on paid leave at 36 weeks pregnant. You can’t work for six weeks after the birth of your baby. By the way, at the same time, mothers receive vacation pay in full for 12 weeks. But dads get two paid days off. Both parents can also take unpaid leave for up to 26 weeks in total. However, there are some conditions. nine0005

For example, you must have worked for your employer for at least a year. And although such leave is unpaid, some employers can pay up to 60% of wages. Because of this, some fathers work less when they have children. Those who work in the public sector are especially lucky. But in the private sector, the corporate culture can sometimes be old-fashioned and even prone to sexist sentiments. Everything depends on the company. I work for a consulting firm. On the one hand, there are many men here, on the other hand, there are a lot of young people who share my values. nine0005

What still amazes me are the questions to pregnant women: “Will you cut your working hours?” or “Will you stop working when the baby is born?” Men are asked a different question: “Are you going to work full time?” And if he says “no”, the answer is: “Well, yes, you are modern.” When I was pregnant, I was asked if I was going to cut my work week down to four days. When I answered no, there was surprise, and then another question: “Yes? Then, it turns out, up to three days? nine0005

Update at the end of 2022

Ukrainians received the right to a longer stay in the Netherlands

The Temporary Protection Directive has been extended until 4 March 2024. This decision was made by the European Commission. This means that even if you have a permanent residence permit or a residence permit in Ukraine, you have the right to stay in the Netherlands for another year.

Any person covered by the Temporary Protection Directive is entitled to: asylum, health care, education (for minors) and the opportunity to work. It can be extended again for a period of one year. Temporary protection ends when the maximum period expires or a safe return to Ukraine becomes possible. nine0005

Issuance of proof of residence stickers after November 1, 2022

Proof of residence stickers are currently issued at three locations in the Netherlands. This sticker shows that you are covered by the directive. After November 1, this process will continue from a fixed location in Amsterdam. For example, refugees arriving in the Netherlands after October 31, 2022 can come here by appointment to receive a sticker on their residence document. Children over the age of fourteen can also come here for a sticker. nine0005

    Update for July 1, 2022

Many people were waiting for this date: they said that from July 1, they might be reviewing some conditions for temporarily resettled Ukrainians, or refugees, or Ukrainians in the status of temporary protection (the last name is the most accurate, the other two are more colloquial)
It was, for example, the almost possible abolition of benefits or that the country would be closed to refugees.
In fact, no major changes, especially for the worse, have occurred. nine0005

    • The Netherlands still accepts Ukrainians and gives temporary protection status
    • Benefits remain the same
    • Positive changes have taken place in the issue of health insurance.
    • Employed mothers with children may apply for the allowance for the child (children)
    • The IND immigration department has begun actively inserting stickers needed to travel outside the Netherlands, including to Ukraine.
You will find constant updates on this topic on the official website created in the Netherlands for Ukrainians

You have reached the Netherlands. Very briefly, only the most important:

    • Decide where you will live . This is living either in a camp, in a shelter, or with private individuals, volunteers, host families, offering shelter to Ukrainians for free.
    • In order to be immediately taken to the refugee reception center, declare yourself to any official (for example, a policeman) or Red Cross volunteer, who, as a rule, meet Ukrainians on the platforms of train stations in large cities (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rottterdam, The Hague, Eindhoven , Maastricht). At the train station or airport – go to the police or station worker. nine0046
    • Refugee reception centers are large transit points. From there, as a rule, in 1-4 days you will be distributed to a shelter, a camp, a shelter.
    • Alternative: to live with volunteers, individuals who offer their housing for free to refugees. How to find it ? You can start your search already on your way to the Netherlands on the sites mentioned below. Or you can use the time you have at the Refugee Reception Center to find accommodation with a volunteer. In any case, you can always move from the Center or shelter to the volunteer and vice versa. nine0046
    • Now the situation is such that both volunteers and the state have less housing. To find it, you have to make more efforts and the search may take longer. Perhaps the best solution at the moment is to settle in a refugee reception center, from there to a shelter, but at the same time look for housing from volunteers.

How to find free housing from volunteers: websites and Facebook groups

    Websites:

Individuals offer their housing for free, you choose

    • Contact them yourself
    • Answer quickly, within 1-2 days
    • You can arrange to be met
    • Ask how long you are ready to receive. Good answer: “Until it’s all over”

    host4ukraine.com

    Website refugeehome.nl

An initiative of the government and several large charitable organizations

    • Reliably and for a long time
    • Long wait, from several weeks

Does the state still have places for Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands?

Yes, there is. Here, on the state website of the country, you can track the statistics.

Pros and cons of settling in a camp, in a shelter, in a shelter:

      • You cannot choose where you will be placed. No locality, no type of camp. Every time it’s a lottery. If you heard from someone that he was successfully resettled, this does not mean that you will be lucky.
      • What could it be? If you’re lucky – a hotel, a cruise ship, an empty holiday home. With less luck – an empty office building, the building of the former fire station, an empty prison building, a school. nine0046
      • Everything is organized for you: meals, internet connection, medical care, utilities.
      • You will be together with compatriots
      • You will not be left on the street, and if the municipality ends the contract with your current place of residence, you will be found in advance of another

Pros and cons of living with a volunteer, with a host family:

      • You choose where you will live
      • Volunteer host families make your first time in a foreign country much easier. As a rule, they help you register with the municipality, show you how to use public transport, find distribution centers for you, language courses, schools for children
      • Big minus: volunteers have no obligations to you. They may at any time declare that their circumstances have changed and that you can no longer stay with them. Already now this happens quite often, in which case the refugees themselves have to start the whole search process over again, which can lead to additional stress. In addition, the number of available housing for refugees is declining, and you may be placed in worse conditions than you would have received if you had chosen the camp right away. nine0046
      • Register at the municipality and get a BSN number. The sooner you do this, the sooner you will start receiving benefits. If you have settled in a shelter, registration will be arranged for you. If you are staying with a private person, upon arrival you need to register with the municipality (gemeente) in order to obtain a BSN number giving access to public services

Temporary protection status: housing, education for children, allowance, work permit

On March 3, the European Union adopted a “historic”, as it is already called, decision: Ukrainians receive a special status in the countries of the European Union for the year . It is called temporary protection status. In accordance with this decision, Ukrainian refugees will be able to work, study, receive social and medical protection. And children will be able to go to kindergarten and school here. In Dutch, this status is called Tijdelijke beschermingsrichtlijn (status of temporary protection)

      • No, it’s not necessary, and it’s impossible. The authorities have declared a moratorium for 6 months on the request for refugee status and any action on it. The status of a Ukrainian is the status of a person under temporary protection.

From June 1 – free travel for Ukrainians in the Netherlands by train – upon arrival in the country upon presentation of an identity card for the first 24 hours, the rest of the transport is paid.

You are traveling with a pet, what should you do?

      • Ukrainians leave the country in a hurry, and therefore they do not have the opportunity to comply with all the necessary rules for the transport of animals. Realizing this, all EU member states declared a less strict attitude towards refugees from Ukraine and their pets. nine0046
      • This is what the official information says:
      • If you are traveling with pets, it is important that you take your pet to the veterinary clinic upon arrival. This visit is free of charge and includes a general examination of the animal and the necessary vaccinations .

Our Space

Our Facilities and Security

The first years are a critical time for learning and social development.

Program Highlights

NURTURING ENVIRONMENT

We begin by providing a safe, clean environment where every student is loved, nurtured, and supported. Our small student-teacher ratios complement high-quality learning and all teachers are trained in SIDS and Shaken Baby.

MULTI-SENSORY EXPERIENCES

As children begin to master language and mobility, they will discover a whole new world around them. The classroom is equipped with furniture, manipulatives and learning tools creating an environment ideal for the children to feel curious and independent in their space.

DAILY REPORTS

We utilize Tadpoles, a web-based childcare and preschool app (iOS and Android) that gives parents real-time notes and reminders, photos and videos of their children at day care, and school notifications and alerts. Tadpoles is designed to give childcare providers a way to keep track of kids’ needs — and parents peace of mind while keeping them informed throughout the day.

OUTDOOR PLAY

We are fortunate to have Hudson County Park right across the street and we take advantage of it as much as we can. Children (12 months & up) have plenty of room to run and play and exert all that energy their little bodies build up throughout the day.

DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE ACTIVITIES

“Three of my jobs in Belarus are a kindergarten compared to one in the USA” – Charter’97 :: News from Belarus – Belarusian News – Belarus News – Republic of Belarus

A private practice doctor in America “does his best”, but earns about half a million dollars a year.

The tut.by portal contacted doctors working in the USA and asked them to talk about their work.

“Work in the department must be done, but how is our business”

— In Minsk, I taught at the Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education (now BelMAPO. — Editor’s note), at the same time I worked as an anesthesiologist-resuscitator at the Children’s Surgical Center (RSPC for Pediatric Surgery) and at a private medical center as a pediatrician and anesthetist. These three jobs put together are a kindergarten compared to one of my jobs in America,” says former Belarusian doctor Sergei . He is now an assistant professor of critical medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, but his main workload is clinical. nine0004

Sergey explains that doctors in the US tend to work very hard, because there “there is no such thing as healthcare, but there is the concept of “medical business”.

– Hospitals are mostly private entities that seek to earn money, and all services provided are paid for by insurance companies and patients. Each hospital forms its own budget, staff, staff salaries and workload,” says Sergey. — For example, in university hospitals there is much less clinical workload, but higher requirements in terms of scientific productivity. And if this is a private hospital, then there is money, money, money: both the workload and the salaries are very large. So, everything is determined by the desire of the person himself. If you don’t want to work, you can take a part-time contract (7 working days a month), and if you want, put the flag in your hands: get a job in intensive care, take hours for a wage and more (work in the USA is paid by the hour. – Approx. ed. .). nine0004

Sergey’s standard working day lasts 12 hours.

— I come to work by 6.30 am, I examine all the patients — these are 12-16 critically ill children, I am getting ready for the official round. 5-10 people participate in the tour: me, my “wards” interns and residents, a pharmacist, specialists of a narrow profile, parents of children. Such a round can last 3-5 hours, and during it a detailed treatment plan is formed for each patient for the next day. You also need to accept new patients, transfer some to other departments. The work is fast and very intense, sometimes there is no time even to drink tea. At 18.30 – home. On a full-time basis, there should be 14 such days per month, of which half are night shifts. I am not in the hospital at night, I leave after the evening round. Interns and residents are responsible for patients, who coordinate their decisions with me by phone. At night I come in very difficult and non-trivial cases. nine0004

According to him, the administration constantly monitors the work of doctors.

— It’s not just about treatment outcomes, it’s also about patient satisfaction. After discharge, everyone is given a questionnaire: are you satisfied or dissatisfied, which doctor is good, which is not very good, and so on. All colleagues also question the doctor, giving an assessment of knowledge, behavior, and the ability to communicate clearly in emergency situations. If you want to be appreciated and kept at work, you have to give all the best. nine0004

On the contrary, the work of a doctor in the USA is simpler in some respects.

— For example, paperwork and entering information into a computer is handled by a doctor’s assistant, this is a position between a doctor and a nurse. The doctor himself only signs for this, – says Sergey.

There are no paid holidays in the USA that we are accustomed to, and the medical field is no exception. Here they are guided by the principle of “as you agree.

— I try to go on vacation twice a year, each time for 10-14 days. No one provides any vacation and does not pay vacation pay. I just arrange my shifts in such a way that I work more in other weeks and completely free these two. Usually I plan a vacation at the turn of the months, it’s easier to “compress” working days, – Sergey explains. nine0004

As a result, such work pays off with a high income. Sergei says that a doctor in America is the most prestigious and highly paid job. A general practitioner who has completed a residency (a sort of multi-disciplinary internship that lasts three years) has an average pre-tax salary of $180,000 a year, he says.

“Besides, the average salary in the country is $32,000 a year,” Sergey stresses. – And this is not even a specialist doctor, for this you need to go through another three years of residency. Then we will talk about even larger amounts. But at this level of income, taxes are about 38%. nine0004

“If you’re in private practice, you make about half a million dollars a year on vacation.

— In the US, doctors have several different career paths. Some work for themselves in so-called private practices, and some go under contract to a hospital or other private practices, says Mikhail Litinsky , director of the intensive care unit at Bayonne Medical Center in New Jersey. “Doctors who work for themselves really work very hard and hard, because every patient is money. Missing a day, they lose a lot. nine0004

According to Mikhail, a typical working day for a doctor in private practice might look like this: from 6 am to examine his patients in the hospital, from 8-9 to 17-18 – appointment in the office, and after that – again going to the hospital to examine their patients admitted there during the day.

– It’s really hard. And, unfortunately, in this case, quantity does not always translate into quality. When you work so much, there is no way to keep yourself up to date with the latest research,” the source comments. But doctors in private practice really earn a lot of money. Even a general practitioner with a well-established private practice can earn up to $500,000 a year after taxes. But not immediately: a young doctor first works for someone for several years before he gets the right to become a partner or open his own practice. He will work hard in the same way, because the work, in principle, is the same, but at the same time he will receive much less. nine0004

Taking a leave of absence for a doctor from private practice is also not easy, because “this is your business, and it is difficult to leave it even for a day.”

– If you work in a hospital, you have days off, sometimes you have a vacation – in a word, some time for rest. But when you have your own practice, then even in order to take one or two free days, you must first arrange with a doctor from another practice to take your patients for this time. You still need to pay the rent of the premises, pay the salaries of your employees: nurses, administrator, and so on. As a result, it turns out that you are not only losing money by not accepting patients, but also paying for all this out of your own pocket,” Mikhail explains. “To be honest, I rarely see doctors from private practices go on vacation at all. Now the majority does not work alone, but with partners, which gives more opportunities to carve out time for rest. But in any case, this will not be a month of rest, maybe 7-10 days. nine0004

Mikhail himself never wanted a private practice for this very reason.

My friend who works there says it’s very difficult. He would like more free time, which private practice does not give, – adds the interlocutor.

In the hospital, he says, the schedule may not be as heavy, but “depends on what is written in the contract.”

– Most often this is a certain number of shifts that you need to work per month, and the rest of the time you are free. But the shifts in the intensive care unit are very difficult, after three or four you can leave for several days, says Mikhail. – I, as a director, should always be in touch on any administrative and clinical issues, plus, like everyone else, I have clinical shifts of 12 hours, there are about 14-16 of them per month. In principle, these are standard conditions. Whether a doctor is given leave depends on the terms of the contract. If the number of shifts is specified in the contract, then often it may not be. nine0004

The mystery of the death of the Morro Castle liner: a mysterious fire on a “drunken voyage” that killed more than a hundred people

Fires on ships on the high seas often turned into the largest disasters in the history of navigation. Fire on board caused more casualties than reefs, storms, icebergs, or collisions between two ships.

In the era of the sailing fleet, wooden ships sometimes burned out completely – along with all the people on board. But even in recent history, fires have remained a frequent cause of shipwrecks, recalls TJournal. nine0072

In 1934, such a tragedy occurred near the US state of New Jersey – in peacetime, on the fashionable tourist ship “Morro Castle”. In a few hours, 134 people died in fire and water. The true background of the events remains unclear to this day. The one whom contemporaries considered the main savior of the survivors was probably the culprit of the fire.

Bypass Prohibition by Sea

The short life of the American liner “Morro Castle” (SS Morro Castle) almost completely fell on the era of Prohibition. At 19From 19-1933, the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution was in force in the United States. The document prohibited the production, sale and transportation of alcohol within the country. De facto, the amendment made it illegal to purchase any alcoholic beverages.

An ill-conceived reform provoked an increase in home-brewing and smuggling in the United States, behind which stood organized crime. But there were also legal ways to circumvent Prohibition prohibitions. Many Americans embarked on “drunken flights” to neighboring countries. One of the most popular routes was not overland, to Mexico or Canada, but across the Caribbean to Cuba. nine0004

In the first half of the 20th century, the island republic was politically and economically highly dependent on the United States, thanks to which the Cubans liberated themselves from Spanish rule in 1902. US citizens were attracted to the island not only by legal drinking, but also by legally operating brothels and casinos.

In the 1920s, wealthy Americans got into the habit of spending weekends in Cuba. Demand gave birth to supply: shipowners offered comfortable “drunk voyages”, taking advantage of the favorable conditions of the Merchant Marine Law 1928 years old The document essentially allowed businesses to renew ships at the expense of the state – in installments at low interest rates.

In 1929-1930, the shipping company “Ward Line” built two twin liners, “Oriente” and “Morro Castle” with a displacement of 11.3 thousand tons each. Their names spoke to contemporaries about future routes. Oriente is the historical name of the eastern part of Cuba, and Morro Castle is one of the architectural sights of Havana.

“Oriente” and “Morro Castle” were conceived as comfortable liners for a non-poor public. The construction of each of the twins cost the shipowners about 4 million dollars – about 72 million at the rate of 2021. Their tickets cost accordingly, from 65 to 200 dollars for flight (from 1.2 to 3.8 thousand in terms of the modern exchange rate).

In 1933, in the wake of the Great Depression, Democratic President Franklin Delano Roosevelt became President of the United States, proclaiming the reformist New Deal. The politician canceled the Prohibition, hated by most Americans, which created unnecessary tension in society and deprived the state of taxes. nine0004

However, neither the legalization of alcohol nor economic hardships have made “drunk flights” to Cuba less popular among wealthy Americans . Morro Castle and Oriente continued to run weekly from New York to Havana.

Without a captain and on fire – all in one evening

In the early autumn of 1934, the Morro Castle was to make its 174th voyage along the usual route. The ship left New York for Havana, safely reached its destination and spent two days in the parking lot in the Cuban capital. Passengers had fun in casinos and bars, and the sailors prepared the liner for the return passage. nine0004

Captain Robert Wilmott. Photo by unknown author

On September 5, the Morro Castle left Havana on her last voyage with 549 people on board. The liner covered most of the way and was located near the east coast of the United States. On the evening of September 7, according to tradition, a farewell banquet was waiting for the passengers, led by Captain Robert Wilmott.

Let the banquet announce that the captain is not feeling well and offer his sincere apologies. Dinner is served to my cabin. Call me as we approach New York. nine0119

last order to the team

But the liner’s commander did not come out for a common dinner, citing malaise. An hour later, the crew found his lifeless body in the bathroom. The ship’s doctor DeWitt van Zile diagnosed acute indigestion. Wilmott is believed to have poisoned or been poisoned.

Command of the Morro Castle passed to the deceased’s chief mate, William Worms, an experienced sailor with almost 40 years of experience. It seemed that no feat was required of the new commander to complete the voyage, because the Morro Castle was already several hours away from New York. But on the night of September 7-8, another trouble – a fire broke out.

The first fire in the ship’s library was discovered not by a member of the crew, but by one of the passengers. 63-year-old John Kempf, unlike most of his fellow travelers, worked in New York as a simple firefighter. A second-class ticket to the Morro Castle was a gift from the union for many years of honest service.

Waking up from the smell of burning, Kempf quickly found the fire. One of the library cabinets was on fire. The fireman was unable to put it out on his own. The man also noted the unnaturally fast pace of the spread of fire, and its strange bluish hue – like a spilled chemical mixture was on fire.

Kempf rushed to wake up the rest of the passengers. Smoke and flames, meanwhile, continued to take over the Morro Castle. Within half an hour, the fire engulfed the entire liner, and attempts to extinguish it were unsuccessful. The fire curtain prevented the awakened people from leaving the cabins. In residential and non-residential compartments, an alarm siren howled belatedly.

Flame in the middle of the ocean

The crew of the ship in a critical situation was not up to par. Most of the sailors acted on the principle of “save yourself who can.” Leaving both the passengers and the comrades who worked in the engine room, they took refuge in a relatively safe location – on the tank of the Morro Castle. nine0004

Tank – a superstructure in the bow of the ship.

The chief engineer of the liner, Eban Abbott, went further than the others. He ordered the boat to be equipped and was the first to leave the burning liner along with several crew members. Captain Warms did not abandon the ship: on the contrary, the sailor tried to put out the fire by correctly arranging the transport in terms of the wind rose. The “Morro Castle” led by him wrote intricate zigzags in the waters of the Atlantic, and the flames only grew stronger.

Apparently, Worms underestimated the real threat of the fire element and believed to the last that it was about to retreat. The captain ordered to transmit the SOS signal only 15 minutes later, when he was informed that the ship was already doomed . A few minutes later, the diesel generators on the Morro Castle failed. The liner that had lost control was illuminated only by the flames of the fire.

From the boat I saw a terrible sight. The burning vessel continued to drift away, its black hull engulfed in flames. Women and children, closely clinging to each other, stood at the stern. We heard screams, plaintive, full of despair. nine0119

Rescue of the burning and drowning

Around 3:20 in the morning, senior radio operator George White Rogers and his assistant George Alanya received an order to transmit an SOS signal.

According to another version, Alanya and Rogers did not wait for the necessary order and filed an SOS without permission, based on the current situation.

By that time, the radio room was also on fire, and spare acid batteries exploded in it. The cramped room was filled with poisonous smoke, but the radio operators did their duty. Then, breathless and burned, Rogers and Alanya, supporting each other, reached the saving tank. Most of the crew members were there. nine0004

Passengers independently got out of the cabins enveloped in flames. Many, out of desperation, broke the portholes and, risking their lives, jumped from a great height onto the deck. Those who managed to get out of the fire stayed at the stern, where there were no lifeboats.

A few daredevils escaped by swimming eight miles (nearly 15 kilometers) in cold ocean water. Closer to the morning of September 8, about 400 people were rescued by the crews of nearby ships. The steamships Monarch of Bermuda, City of Savannah and Andrea Lackenbach, which received an SOS signal, approached the scene of the tragedy along with a couple of small ships. nine0004

Current and wind carried the out-of-control Morro Castle towards the coast. Worms, Rogers and Alanya were still there, along with several other crew members. Navy sailors from the Tampa rescue ship tried to take the half-burnt liner in tow, but bad weather prevented this. September 8 at 20:00 waves washed the ship ashore – near Ashbury Park in New Jersey.

Entertainment and punishment

By that time, the press and radio were telling the audience in detail about the tragedy that had unfolded in the middle of the ocean. From the sides of the planes circling over the Morro Castle, photographers took a series of pictures of the fire. As a result, on the evening of September 8, 1934 years in New Jersey, the remains of the once luxurious liner were met by thousands of Americans from different states.

“Crashed Morro Castle in Ashbury Park, New Jersey” American newspaper headline in the days after

The cunning owners of Ashbury Park have turned a burnt-out shipwreck into a dubious attraction. For a fee of $10, visitors walked along the still-smoking deck of Morro Castle , where just recently hundreds of terrified people tried to escape the flames and suffocation. nine0004

Gov. Harry Moore even suggested that the owners of the Morro Castle officially buy the burnt-out liner so that it would finally become one of the state’s attractions. But the management of Ward Line refused. In 1935, businessmen sold the remains of the ship for scrap for 33.5 thousand dollars – an amount 120 times less than the cost of its construction.

While the curious tickled their nerves, doctors and volunteers provided assistance to the survivors of the tragedy. Of the 548 people aboard the Morro Castle, 415 passengers and crew survived. They were saved by the SOS signal transmitted at the last moment by Rogers and Alanya: without it, sailors from other ships would not have known about the shipwreck and would not have come to the rescue. nine0004

Presumably, several dozen illegal immigrants from Cuba were traveling in the hold of the liner without tickets. Almost all of them died, not having time to go on deck.

But the actions of other crew members, the investigators considered criminally negligent. In many ways, the responsibility for what happened on the Morro Castle was borne by Captain Wilmott, who died a few hours before the fire. Apparently, the sailor did not want to disturb the rich who paid rather big sums for a comfortable stay and neglected the elementary rules. nine0004

Wilmott did not rehearse emergency situations with the tourists, or even give them regular safety classes. Most of the liner’s guests did not know how to properly put on life belts and launch lifeboats . And on the fateful night of September 7-8, half of the boats lay far from the triggers, and people who fled from the fire could not use them.

It turned out that the builders designed the Morro Castle, for all its apparent luxury, with gross violations of fire safety rules: from flammable materials, with an imperfect alarm system, weak hydrants. nine0004

The investigation revealed other aspects of the tragedy that were unpleasant for Ward Line. Many ordinary sailors and mechanics were random and inexperienced people. In the conditions of the Great Depression, they got a job at Morro Castle for a penny, poorly understanding the new job and its risks. When the fire started, they did not know what to do, and did not seek to risk their lives for the sake of the rich.

B 1937 year the investigation ended. The judges found deserter engineer Abbott and one-night stand captain Worms to be the main culprits in the tragedy. They received four and two years in prison. Ward Line vice president Henry Caboda was given a one-year suspended sentence. The company itself was ordered to pay thousands of compensations to the relatives of each of the victims – the total amount exceeded one million US dollars (over 70 million at the current exchange rate).

Two radio operators

In the 1930s, the investigation ignored the strange death of Captain Wilmott and the cause of the fire on the ship. It was believed that the circumstances of the death of the sailor could not be clarified, since the fire destroyed his corpse. And the fire itself could provoke spontaneous combustion or a short circuit in the wiring. nine0004

There were also alternative points of view. In the 1930s, a conspiracy theory about alleged Bolshevik saboteurs circulated in anti-communist circles in Europe and America. Allegedly, a group of leftist fanatics operates around the world under the auspices of the Soviet special services. Its militants have a network of supporters and carry out terrorist attacks against the Western establishment.

The identity of the radio operator George Alanya, one of the few crew members who showed themselves worthy on the night of September 7-8, 19, helped bring the tragedy of Morro Castle under this dubious concept. 34 years. Enemies remembered the ethnic Italian and leftist views, and public calls for a strike, and quarrels with Captain Wilmott.

It turned out that the “saboteur” Alanya allegedly eliminated the hated commander for fidelity, secretly organized a terrible fire on the ship, and only then acted heroically in the radio room – to divert eyes.

Because of the gossip around Alanya, the police took the radio operator into custody. But the “communist arsonist” was released after a short arrest. nine0099 The investigation did not establish Alanya’s involvement either in the death of the captain or in the arson of the ship. An Italian found a new job in New York and died in 1990 at a ripe old age.

Alanya’s senior partner George Rogers became a real hero in the eyes of the public. Journalists presented it as his merit to save most of the people from Morro Castle. The U.S. Congress awarded Rogers the Gold Medal for Bravery. In the 1930s, the radio operator visited various American states with public speeches about the shipwreck, where solemn banquets were held in his honor. nine0004

Attempt for curiosity

In 1936, Rogers retired and settled in his native New Jersey town of Bayonne. On March 16, 1938, discouraging news came from there: a recent hero was arrested for trying to kill local police lieutenant Vincent Doyle. On Christmas Day 1937, Rogers sent an improvised explosive device disguised as a heating pad to a police officer. He signed the package in the name of a non-existent charitable foundation. But Doyle survived after the explosion of the heating pad, and a few months later the investigation established the identity of the sender. nine0004

Mutual acquaintances testified that Doyle almost paid with his life for curiosity. Initially, he and Rogers were friends, they were brought together by a common interest – radio business. Once, over a glass of whiskey, the former radio operator from the Morro Castle suddenly remembered the tragedy of 1934 and strangely said: they say that someone very smart was thoroughly preparing the arson, and no one will ever know the whole truth about the death of the liner. Then, intrigued, Doyle decided to find out more about his friend.

Rogers (center) says goodbye to his wife after being sentenced for the attempt on Doyle, 1938 years Photo AP

The police officer determined that Rogers not only served time in prison for petty theft as a teenager. Strange fires accompanied the Morro Castle rescuer throughout his life, which looked ominous, coupled with his interest in chemistry and electronics.

In 1920, when Rogers was serving at one of the American naval bases, there was an explosion in a fuel depot: six sailors were killed, but the culprit was not found. In 1929, while a friend of Doyle’s was working at the New York radio company Wireless Edgerth, there was also a fire there. The attacker was not identified again, and Rogers himself quit a few days later and moved to another state. Surviving by odd jobs, a few years later he passed the state commission and got a job as a radio operator on the Morro Castle. nine0004

In 1938, Rogers was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to 12 years in prison. But the case of the tragedy “Morro Castle” did not continue. Vincent Doyle, who unearthed the secrets of the radio operator, suddenly moved with his family to Florida. In fact, the policeman dropped the assumptions against his would-be killer.

Doyle’s move looked doubly strange for the residents of Bayonne: he repeatedly complained to his friends that the meager salary did not improve their living conditions. And then the lieutenant somehow found money for his own house in the resort state. nine0004

Is the killer an arsonist?

In 1942, Rogers was released for good behavior. Attempts to return to the naval service or start a new life in Australia did not bring success. In 1945 he returned to Bayonne again, where he set up his own business.

Eight years later, Rogers got caught in a new dark case. In the summer of 1953, he stabbed to death his neighbor William Hammel and his adopted daughter Edith. A former Morro Castle radio operator borrowed $7,500 from his neighbors but was unable to repay them, prompting him to commit the crime. At 1954 the court sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The last crime of the radio operator provoked new rumors in the press about the tragedy of twenty years ago. Enthusiasts also had other indirect evidence of Rogers’ guilt in addition to Doyle’s old investigation.

One of the sailors of the Morro Castle recalled how on September 5, 1934, a radio operator had a conflict with Captain Wilmott. Before leaving the port of Havana, he caught a subordinate with some bottles. Then the commander, after a verbal skirmish, demanded that the radio operator immediately throw them overboard. nine0004

The vessels might not contain Cuban rum, but an incendiary mixture. In favor of the “chemical” version of the fire, the testimony of eyewitnesses also spoke, noting a strange shade and the rapid spread of flames. It seemed that someone had previously spilled fuel in the premises of the liner and disabled the necessary equipment.

The technically savvy Rogers could also squirt gasoline from the emergency diesel generator tanks from the upper decks to the lower decks to make the flames go from top to bottom and make it harder to put out. And after the necessary preparations, the senior radio operator of the Morro Castle, unnoticed by anyone, went to his room and pretended to be asleep. nine0004

But the courts did not charge Rogers with the murder of the captain and the burning of the ship. In the 1950s, he was in prison, where curious correspondents periodically visited him. It was said that during the last conversation, the offender quit that he was not opposed to telling the truth about the old tragedy , but on January 10, 1958, he died – according to the official version, from a heart attack.

The cause of the fire at Morro Castle has not yet been officially determined. Public opinion within the United States eventually placed the blame for the tragedy on Rogers. The most popular view among shipwreck researchers is that the ship’s radio operator was a calculating and resourceful lone pyromaniac. At 19In the 80s, this version was fixed in the mass consciousness by the series “Catastrophe” from HBO. In episode “The Mystery of the Morro Castle” , viewers were shown how a fire-obsessed radio operator, played by actor John Goodman, single-handedly destroyed the ship.

But not all enthusiasts who are interested in the death of the liner during Prohibition and the Great Depression agree with this assumption. One of the modern researchers of the topic, Deborah Whitcraft, claims that Morro Castle did not only operate tourist flights. She is convinced that the crew, on secret missions from the secret services, supplied weapons to Cuban President Fulgencio Batista. nine0004

Fulgencio Batista – the de facto ruler of Cuba in 1933-1944 and 1952-1959 Photo from the collection of Harris and Ewing (Harris & Ewing)

According to Whitcraft, during the last of the flights, something went wrong, and Rogers, who worked for the FBI, was ordered to eliminate the captain and destroy the ship itself – in fact, built at the expense of the state. Then the secret services shut the mouths of random curious like Vincent Doyle and eliminated the arsonist himself, when he, serving a life sentence, decided to tell the whole truth to journalists. Then the FBI classified the criminal cases brought against Rogers. nine0004

But Whitcraft herself admits that after almost 90 years since the death of Morro Castle, she cannot prove her case 100%.

To this day, the authorities have not yet declassified many documents about Morro Castle. They are hiding the whole truth from the people of the United States, just like in the case of the assassination of John F.

BCCI seeks to be an outstanding provider of children’s educational and social development to the children of VA Staff and the community, by offering a variety of educational, cultural, and interactive programs catering to both the group and individual child’s needs.

Philosophy

At Brooklyn Child Care, we believe that children learn best through play and invite 3-year-old to five year old children to learn through active exploration of their environment and through meaningful interactions with their peers and adults. Our program focuses on the developing needs of the whole child so that his/her social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs can be met.

We place emphasis on assisting children and their families as they make the initial entry to the school environment and believe that this effort helps set a positive foundation for ongoing successful school experiences. We warmly welcome and embrace children from all backgrounds and recognize that each child’s family and culture play a vital role in their development.

Parents play an integral role at Brooklyn Child Care, holding board positions, participating in fundraising, and writing for our quarterly newsletter, Tot off the Press. Together we share in making important decisions.

We strive to meet the individual needs of our families and strengthen community relations through ongoing workshops, meetings, and celebratory gatherings. At Brooklyn Child Care, we believe that teachers need to be life-long learners to offer their students optimal care and the finest experiences. We encourage and support the growth of our staff through ongoing professional development and seek to provide many opportunities to engage in collaboration with peers, reflection, and learning.

Brooklyn Child Care Inc. is a child-oriented center that focuses on the whole child. We use the Creative Curriculum as the framework for our learning as it is consistent with our beliefs, and it addresses the central aspects of child development.

We look at the child’s physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs. The cornerstone of our program is respect. The children see the respectful way the teachers interact with them and each other. They learn respect for the environment, each other and themselves.

7 Small-Scale Daycares & Preschools in Downtown Brooklyn, NY

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.

What is NeighborSchools?

Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.

We know how hard finding good child care can be – especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.

So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.

How’s it work?

Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care – so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.

Is there a cost?

Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools – we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.

How do I know if I’m ready to take the survey?

Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.

How do I know if a daycare has openings?

Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.

More questions? Text or email – we’re here to help.

We’re online Monday – Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.

Underground Satmar yeshivas approved by administrators

Read this article in Yiddish.

A principal at United Talmudical Academy, a complex of schools serving the ultra-Orthodox Satmar community, told a teacher to hold classes in person despite coronavirus social distancing orders, according to a school answering machine recording from last week.

In the recording, the teacher, a man identified as Mr. Weiss, tells students they have permission from their principal, Yakov Herman, to come in person to their eighth grade class. The recording can be accessed through a series of menu options in Yiddish stemming from United Talmudical Academy’s main phone number.

“The principal was here and he’s asked that whoever can come to Cheder tomorrow should come and wear their gloves,” he said, using the Yiddish word for grade school.

Another recording from before Passover, which started on April 8, accessed through the same answering machine service asked parents to volunteer their basements for in-person classes.

“Until the situation resolves we’re seeking the following and asking for those who can provide basements or larger rooms in private homes where we’d be able to place 10-12 children to study with their teachers on a smaller scale, of course, strictly according to governmental instructions,” said the message from before Passover, which was from another teacher, Shmiel Leibish Schwartz. That message was also aimed at parents of students in eighth grade.

Schwartz was apparently referencing social distancing guidance to avoid gathering in groups of more than 10 people, but New York State and New York City health department guidance stipulate that all schools are supposed to be closed, or operating in distance-learning mode.

The recordings call into question claims by Satmar leaders and officials from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office who have insisted that the underground yeshivas operating in Williamsburg were being run by rogue teachers without authorization from rabbinical authorities or administrators, that there was only one classroom in operation and that students met only for a single day.

More than 3,000 children who attend UTA from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. It is the largest system of Satmar yeshivas in Brooklyn. (It is separate from Central United Talmudical Academy headquartered in upstate New York.)

Williamsburg is home to the largest population of Satmar Hasidic Jews in New York City. The community is characterized by very strict religiosity and yeshivas intensely focused on religious education.

A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of alienation from the community brought the recordings to the Forward’s attention. Staff from the Yiddish Forverts called the number and verified the first recording.

After the source sent the second recording, UTA protected the message behind a password. Forverts staff could not verify it without the PIN, but the number the source provided did bring the caller to Schwartz’ phone mailbox.

When reached by phone, Principal Yakov Herman hung up on a reporter who asked about the recordings and said in a subsequent call that he did not want to speak to the press.

City officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

It is not yet clear how many classes have been operating in secret and for how long, but the new recordings suggest more widespread coordination than was previously thought.

A different source who spoke to the Forward Monday on the condition of anonymity due to fears of retaliation by the community said Satmar schools attended by his children of different ages were running classes in apartment buildings and synagogues since mid-March.

Gothamist has named Talmud Torah Tashbar and Talmud Torah Bnei Shimon as schools operating underground.

After the Forward published its first story on the matter, New York City officials broke up one of the schools, which it declined to name. A city spokeswoman said the dispersal was tied to the Forward’s reporting.

Jordan Kutzik contributed reporting and Yiddish translation.

UTAM’s origins trace back two centuries to the Chassidic Master Rabbi Moishe Teitelbaum, zt’l, author of the renowned text Yismach Moishe. Under his towering influence, the Talmud Academy in Uhel, Hungary was developed into an esteemed institution for training young men in Talmud, Ethics, and Halacha. The institution served the entire community. Its curriculum was not limited to the narrow goal of producing outstanding scholars skilled in refined intellectual analysis, but rather the Yeshiva embraced the broader mission of training its community’s youth for a life based upon reflection and discipline.   Inspired by Rabbi Moishe’s teaching, the community’s residents held fast to tradition and sustained each other with warm concern and affection in difficult times.

A succession of Chassidic leaders carried forward the mission of the Yismach Moishe and his Yeshiva. By the eve of World War II, Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum, zt’l, headed the Yeshiva and served as leader of the Satmar community. His keen mastery of Jewish scholarship was tied to a rigorous adherence to traditional ways, and under this profound, saintly man the Yeshiva became a regional institution attracting gifted scholars from all over.

Then this world was plunged into darkness. Towns and villages saturated with Torah and Mitzvos were set ablaze; the old communities flowed with rivers of Jewish blood. A world was destroyed in the gas ovens of Nazi occupied Europe.

But the mission endured, and a hand-full of survivors committed their every effort to reclaiming the world of Torah that had been so tragically destroyed before their eyes. This tiny group of leaders launched an effort to rebuild on American shores from the European remnants. At the head of this effort stood the Satmar Rav, Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum.

Others had before failed to establish a vibrant Yiddishkeit in the United States, but with his great learning and bristling faith, the Satmar Rav lifted up an orphaned generation and sparked in them the courage to join him. From the scarred survivors of the holocaust, whom many feared were too bowed to build anything ever again, he erected a spirited Torah community. To those who argued that Torah must make accommodations, he replied with a serene assumption: Truth did not change with time and place. The eternal law and its explication were the only guide and they must be studied, understood and scrupulously followed. At first a lone voice, he became the architect of a new American orthodox generation.

UTAM stands as the capstone of the educational institution that he erected. It provides advanced students with rigorous training in the intellectual foundations of classic Jewish thought, law and philosophy and stands today as the leading institutional voice and training ground for unswerving classical Judaism.

Established in Brooklyn, New York, in 1949, amid the Satmar community, the school initially attracted only a small number of students. Its first classes were held in neighborhood synagogues, with few amenities, but its devoted staff and impassioned leader pushed forward. The Satmar Rav knew no fear, gave in to no compromise, in planting the scholarly traditions of Torah study in America. Over the decades, the school expanded into an institution of worldwide prominence with many hundreds of students pursuing the classical curriculum. From the one- room, book cluttered classroom-library of the early days, the Yeshiva expanded to many different locations including the Village of Kiryas Joel in Monroe, New York where the UTAM today occupies a vibrant modern campus.

Under the sage leadership of the Satmar Rav’s revered successor, Rabbi Ahron Teitelbaum, shlita, UTAM continues to press forward its educational mission with vigor, dedication and a commitment to excellence.

UTAM’s MISSION

The mission of the institution is to provide higher education founded on classical Jewish learning. Its curriculum emphasizes the study of Talmud, Halacha and Hashkofa in order to prepare students for a richer, more meaningful, intelligent and fulfilling life. It provides the specialized education that serves as the intellectual capital for students who wish to become rabbinic authorities, dayanim, Talmud educators, and communal functionaries. N and today Satmar is considered the largest Hasidic community. These are mainly immigrants from Galicia and Transylvania, united in America into a large community. The name comes from the city of Satmar (rum. Satu Mare, Hung. Szatmar, Yiddish. Satmar), located on the territory of modern Romania, 13 km from the border with Hungary and 27 km from the border with Ukraine. The community was founded by Rebbe Yoel Teitelbaum (Taitelboim) at the beginning of the 20th century as an offshoot of the Sziget Hasidic community in Hungary. The Satmar-Sziget dynasty traces its origins to Rebbe Moshe Taitelboim (Moshe ben Zvi of Uihei (1759–1841)), a student of the Lublin seer, who, in turn, studied with Rebbe Elimelech of Lizhensk. Rebbe Moshe ben Zvi of Uihei, along with another well-known tzadik, Yitzhak Aizik Taub of Kaliv (1744-1828), was one of the first Hasidic Rebbes in Hungary. During the Second World War, the Sziget community was almost completely destroyed by the Nazi invaders. Its remnants united with the Satmar Hasidim. The movement is currently centered in New York. Takes an anti-Zionist position, arguing that the state of Israel violates Jewish laws. Satmar Hasidim living in Israel are boycotting the elections. Satmar Hasidic educational institutions in Israel eschew public funding as a matter of principle and subsist on private donations. nine0007

Rebbe Yoel Teitelbaum, also known as Reb Yoilish or simply the Rebbe of Satmar, was born in 1887 to a family of tzaddiks from Sziget. His father, Hananya Yom-Tov Lipa, Rebbe of Sziget (1830s-1904) was the great-grandson of the founder of the Satmaro-Sziget dynasty. Yoel was a rabbi in a number of Carpathian and North Transylvanian communities. Rebbe Yoel was the youngest son and therefore did not take his place after the death of his father. Went to Satmar where he set up his own court. Rebbe Yoel quickly became widely known in Satmar and throughout Transylvania. During this period, Rebbe Yoel also began a broad polemic against Zionism, in which he saw a serious violation of the Torah. Although Rebbe Yoel saw Zionism as a danger to Jewish existence, his views were not as extreme as those of the Rebbe of Munkacs. Rebbe Yoel did not call his followers to leave Europe before the war, and many of his congregation perished in Auschwitz. nine0007

At the beginning of the war, the Rebbe was imprisoned in a ghetto. In 1944, Rebbe Yoel, along with a group of his Hasidim, was able to get out on the Kastner train to Switzerland. In 1945 he repatriated to Palestine, where he was recognized as the leader of the orthodox anti-Zionist community “Eda Haredit”. The Satmar Rebbe found it difficult to find himself in a Yishuv with his anti-Zionist views, and he preferred to re-establish his community in the United States in New York, in the Queens-Williamsburg districts, where many Transylvanian refugees from various Hasidic denominations settled, who constantly called on the Rebbe to lead them. From 19At the age of 53, he became the spiritual leader of the Jerusalem anti-Zionist community “Naturei Karta”, but remained in New York, visiting Israel regularly every few years. Thanks to the efforts of Rebbe Yoel, a new community with its own educational institutions was quickly established in New York. The community was called Satmar Hasidism and soon became the largest Hasidic community in the world. A few years later, the Williamsburg area was too small to accommodate all the Hasidim and Rebbe Yoel created a new community near Monroe in the state of New York, Orange County, called Kiryas Yoel. Today the population of the city community is over 10 thousand inhabitants. Rebbe Yoel believed that Hebrew is a holy language that the Jews never used in their everyday life, and so it should remain. Yiddish should be used as the language of everyday communication. Satmar Hasidim follow the views of their teacher very rigidly, and Yiddish dominates in all their communities. Rebbe Yoel believed that attempting to create a Jewish state before the arrival of Moshiach was a serious violation of the Torah. Based on the treatise Ketubot in the Babylonian Talmud: G-d swore three oaths on the Jewish people and other nations. First: do not try to climb the wall by force (that is, do not create your own state before the arrival of Moshiach). Second: do not rebel against the nations. Third, the nations of the world will not enslave the Jews too much. Therefore, the Jews cannot try to return their Eretz-Israel by force, but only with the consent of the peoples of the world, the Jews cannot rebel against the existing non-Jewish authorities. Therefore, the ways in which the State of Israel was created do not comply with the agreement and are prohibited, and the State of Israel is illegal. The Rebbe is the author of the works Vayoel Moshe, Al HaGeula Veal HaTemunah, Divrei Yoel, Dibros Kodesh. Reb Yoilish dies at 1979 in New York. After his death, his nephew Rebbe Moishe Teitelbaum took his place.

Rebbe Moshe Teitelbaum was born in 1914 and was named after his ancestor, Rebbe Moshe Teitelbaum, who founded the dynasty in the 18th century. His father, Chaim-Zvi Teitelbaum (1870s-1926) Rebbe of Seget. Before the war, Moshe Teitelbaum was the rabbi of Senta (at that time a city in Hungary, now Serbia). At the end of 1944, Moshe Teitelbaum, along with his wife and three children, ended up in Auschwitz. It was difficult for him to remember this mournful page of his life until the end of his days – only he survived from the whole family in Auschwitz. Wife and children died. At 19In 45, he was transferred to another concentration camp – to Theresienstadt. The war was already ending, and after a short time he, along with other prisoners, was released. After World War II, Moshe Teitelbaum married the daughter of Rebbe Aharon Teitelbaum of Volov and returned to his childhood city of Seget. But it was not easy to establish a normal Jewish life in the town where his father had once been a rabbi. Communists came to power in Hungary. “Servants of the cult” became the “object” of persecution. In the end, to save his family and his beliefs, Moshe Teitelbaum and his wife emigrated to the United States of America and settled in New York. By that time, his uncle Rebbe Yoel Teitelbaum was already living in the United States. In Williamsburg, where Moshe Teitelbaum settled after coming to America, he founded the Beit Midrash “Etzei Chaim Seget”. Here in Williamsburg they called him the “Szeged Rebbe”. Later, Rebbe Moshe moved to Boro Park (a district of Brooklyn) and created another Satmar community there. After the death of Rebbe Yoel Teitelbaum at 19In 79, the Satmar community named Moshe their Rebbe, and he, assuming the duties of head of the movement, returned to Williamsburg. During the period of his administration of the entire community, the territory occupied by the Satmar Hasidim expanded significantly. Shortly before his death, Rebbe Yoel founded a new settlement, and during his lifetime only a few families managed to settle in it. Rebbe Moshe Teitelbaum named this place “Kiryat Yoel”. Under him, the population of the area increased significantly. In 1977, the first 14 Satmar Hasidim settled in Kiryas Yoel. By 2010, the population of the village was more than 20 thousand people. The Rebbe is the author of the commentaries on the Torah “Berach Moshe”. Rebbe Moshe Teitelbaum left our world in 2006 on 91st year of life. He is survived by 4 sons, 2 daughters and at least 86 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After the death of the Rebbe, the struggle for the leadership of the community between the eldest sons – Aharon (b. 1947) and Zalman Leib (Yekutiel Yehuda) (b. 1951) – became fierce, which began during the life of their elderly father in 1999. Aharon, eldest son of Rebbe Moshe, son-in-law of the previous Vizhnitzer Rebbe Moshe Yehoshua Hager of Bnei Brak (1916-2012). In 1985, Aharon was appointed by his father as chief rabbi and head of the Satmar yeshiva in Kiryat Yoel. Zalman Leib (Yekutiel Yehuda), the third son of Rebbe Moshe, son-in-law of the previous Bistritzer Rebbe of Brooklyn, is the Satmar Rebbe in Williamsburg, head of the Satmar yeshiva in Queens. nine0007

Both brothers, like the previous Satmar leaders, take an extreme anti-Zionist stance. In 2013, during the visit of the Satmar Rebbe Zalman Leib to Israel, he called on Israelis not to participate in parliamentary elections and spoke out against the military service of ultra-Orthodox Jews in the army. The son-in-law of the late Rebbe Moshe, Chaim Yehoshua Halberstam, the chief rabbi and head of the Satmar community in Monsi and the second son of Rebbe Moshe, Hananiah Yom Tov Lipa, who founded his own community, and is the Zenter Rebbe, in honor of the city of Senta on territory of Serbia, where his father served until World War II. The traditional occupations of the Hasidim are the real estate business and construction contracts, the diamond business, trade, mediation, the financial market.

Program Philosophy

At the Mission College Child Development Lab Center, we believe children learn best
in an environment that encourages exploration, provides nurturing supportive relationships,
adapts to each individual child’s learning styles and needs, and offers opportunities
for play.

Play provides the foundation for children’s academic learning later in life.

By providing materials in the environment that facilitate the discovery of key math,
literacy and science concepts children expand their foundational knowledge for later
learning.

From this platform they will be prepared for the academic concepts they will encounter
throughout their educational experience. Our center is a place where learning grows
one child at a time.

Nurturing Environment

When children are cared for in a nurturing and caring environment, they learn that
they are special and deserve to be cherished. Our primary care-giving system provides
each child and family with a teacher who builds a relationship with the family, bonds
with the child by learning about his or her family, cues and personality, and responds
to the child s needs as they arise.

Personal Relationships

Children create relationships with their teachers that we value at CDC. The teachers
in our classrooms spend 2-5 years with the same group of children.

They move up to older classrooms with their children in a Continuity of Care Program
that supports children’s social and emotional development and provides continuous
care and support for both children and families.

Parent’s Input & Support

We value parents as their child’s first and most important teachers. We work closely
with families to ensure parent’s desires and goals for their children are reflected
in the program. We welcome families into the program. We strive to be full partners
in their child’s learning.

Parents are also invited to join our Parent Advisory Council (PAC). The PAC advises
and helps guide the center toward the future and helps to evaluate different aspects
of the program. Our parents offer insights and wisdom to help with our functioning
and future planning.

Large-scale landscaping in Chelyabinsk began several years ago, and it also affected iconic cultural palaces. And not only the buildings themselves, but also the surrounding territories, the appearance of which has not been given due attention since the times of the USSR. Now the appearance of the palace squares has become worthy of its title.

In Chelyabinsk and other cities, the approach to designing and maintaining public spaces is changing radically. In particular, to landscaping. A great merit in this belongs to such significant market participants as the Lawns of the Urals Group of Companies. Beautiful, comfortable, safe, stylish, universal… There are many more epithets that characterize the current transformations of the urban environment. And Chelyabinsk is at the forefront here. Over the past two or three years, dozens of new squares, pedestrian zones and other public spaces have been built in the capital of the South Urals.

Initially, the name of the Palace of Culture sounded like this: “The House of Culture named after Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin.” For a long time, the residents of the city did not separate the city and the Energetik recreation center, because not only circles and clubs for the employees of the state district power station worked in this building, but also city-wide events were held.

from Editorial | 186: December 2022

Not everyone knows that the abbreviation KBS stands for cultural and community construction, which unfolded around the ChTZ and machine tool factories in the early 30s.

What is a company’s mission and why is corporate culture important? Why the starting point for creating a company is an idea, a desire to create something unique, innovative and useful, something that will change the whole world and people! It sounds like a utopia, but it was with such thoughts that the formation of brands known to us took place. Was a dream! Mission! Global Goal! nine0003

A healthy corporate culture is when you are surrounded by like-minded people, those who share your principles and values. Those who will not leave the company in the most difficult times and will continue to believe in its success and do everything to achieve it!

Mission, values, principles
This is the basis that is formed during the formation of the company, what the organization is created for and what goals and objectives the business will implement. Based on the allocated values, the staff will be formed. nine0003

Mission is the philosophy and the highest purpose, the meaning of the existence of the organization. This is the answer to the question “Why do we exist?”
Values are the principles by which people are guided when performing any actions, searching for and choosing a solution. The answer to the question “What ethical rules are used in the organization?”

When we define the mission of the company, we must clearly understand
1 what we want to do ourselves (what brings us joy)
2 what we want to give to our customers (what value and usefulness we have)
3 will the business be profitable
4 what will our work give to society (the state)

I would also include here such a moment as:
Will our future employees want to work with us for these purposes?
It’s like a kind of compass for the adequacy of the goal and understanding what kind of team you can assemble in the future.

When I build an HR strategy for a company, I always analyze the current situation as the first step, and the Mission and Principles block is the starting point, it’s like the foundation on which we build a house. The first thing I do is an integration session with the main participants. nine0003

The founder of the company is the key person who defines the global goal. Further, these are trusted persons or a person from the management team, who has unlimited trust. Who is also wholeheartedly rooting for the common cause. The third front can be employees, a kind of brand ambassador. At the same time, when choosing the backbone of the group for the integration session, do not be guided by the hours worked in the company. An employee can work for 6 years, but not fully share your ideas, and we need exactly “our people”! nine0003

And so, what is the plan for defining the mission (now consider the option when the company employs more than 20 people and global growth has begun), the main problems are just the complexity of management, it seems that new employees do not share your goals and this is not the dream company you want.

Steps to form your mission
1 Identify participants (backbone of the team)
2 Initial integration session with key questions, the purpose of which is to come to a consensus and define what our mission is and what principles we adhere to in our work (see questions above, but they are much wider when we start to deal with each participant)
3 Analysis of primary information and bringing it to the bottom line
4 Survey of employees. It is necessary to go from top to bottom in order to understand the position of the company and how close or far people are to understanding (we use: a survey questionnaire, then a personal interview with key people, but not included in the “backbone”, those who have a great responsibility, this should also include unspoken leaders)
5 Analysis of information from employees
6 The second integration session with the team, where we combine the vision of TOP managers and employees. nine0049 7 Validation and presentation of results

If you need help setting goals, principles and mission for your company, we can help you. From you the application on the site, from us the strategy and solution of the problem!

Hiring
This is one of the key and explicit indicators of how principles and mission affect employees. Already at the entrance, we produce a “screening” of people according to our values ”ours – not ours.” To do this, a profile (portrait) of the candidate is formed in the context of our corporate culture. For example: you value such principles in a candidate as customer orientation, teamwork and innovation. nine0003

To do this, we already have information about how TOP managers understand and what they invest in these concepts, as well as how they determine the presence of these qualities in a person (cases, questions, behavior, etc.) Therefore, it is necessary to create a certain a checklist (matrix) with these competencies, where there will be scales and assessment methods that will be used by hiring managers and HRs so that “our” people get into the organization!

Examples of famous companies’ missions
Microsoft – Enable everyone to realize their full potential. nine0049 Lenovo – We work for those who act. English version: For those who do! Inspire people and become one of the world’s best companies.
General Electric – We help solve the problems and problems of each individual and companies.
Sony – Doesn’t stop with creativity and innovation to create quality and innovative products.

5 Preschool First Day Activities to Set Your Year up for Success –

Is there anything more fun to plan than preschool first day activities? The first day of school is one of my favorites, but it can also be one of the most stressful days of the year! if you are looking for some first day of school preschool activities, this is the post for you!

Are you planning for the first day of preschool? Let’s do it together and set your school year up for success!

Raise your hand if you teach reading and writing! ✋ Class books are one of my favorite tools for writing workshop time. They really help preschool and Kindergarten students get excited about learning to read and write. I’ve put together a set of my favorite printable class books totally free for you! These class books can be used throughout the school year and focus on skills like letter and number recognition, sight words, environmental print, and more! I know you’ll love writing and creating these books with your students!

I will never forget my first day of teaching. At around 8:15 a.m. all of the teary parents finally left my classroom and I realized that I was in charge! ME! Yes, twenty-one-year-old, first-year teacher ME. All of these parents actually left their real-life precious children in my care to love and teach. What an honor and a terrifying moment! I’ve had a few first days since then, but I’ll never forget how that first year felt. This post is for teachers looking for first day of preschool ideas! Here are a few activities to help get you through that first day of preschool!

First Day of School Preschool Activities

Make a first day of preschool printable journal.

The first day of preschool is the best day to begin teaching students your routines and procedures to set them up for success the entire school year! One important part of the day is writing workshop! This printable journal is just for preschool students to use the first week of school. It’s super simple and supports students drawing pictures to share their thoughts and ideas rather than words. This preschool printable journal features over ten different pages to print and choose from. Pages are included for students to draw their classroom, teacher and themselves on the first day of preschool. I recommend choosing one page a day for students to complete during writing time. Please remember that drawing is writing too!

This journal can be used for your writing time throughout the first week of preschool! Please remember that drawing is writing too!

Take a tour of the school.

One of the best parts of being a preschool teacher is that you are often a student’s first introduction to school. What a special job! That being said, everything is new and unfamiliar to them. Where is the bathroom? Where can they get a drink of water? It’s going to be so beneficial to take your students on a tour of the school and show them some of the places they will be visiting frequently like the cafeteria or the gym. Even if your students won’t be traveling around the school independently, it will still help them to feel more confident being familiar with the building.

Taking a tour of the school is a great thing to do on the first day!

I created an around-the-school passport to make learning the school fun for preschool students. You can learn more about this resource here.

This All Around the School Passport is a fun activity for the first day of preschool and helping your students learn their way around the school!

Read a book about the first day of preschool.

Books are always a win! Most preschool children love listening to a story read aloud! Here are a few of my favorite first day of preschool books. Some of these books are specifically about starting preschool, others are just about the first day of school and would be appropriate for preschool or even Kindergarten or First Grade students too.

Create a first day of preschool photo booth.

Oh how I love precious first day of preschool pictures! It’s one of my favorite days on social media because I just love seeing all of the kids dressed up and excited for a wonderful school year.

A bulletin board I created to go with my photo booth for the first day of school!

Setting up a photo booth is a great first day of preschool activity. If you can, set up a little photo area outside of your classroom door so parents can snap pictures before entering your classroom! This will really help with the flow of traffic on that crazy first day of preschool! You can make a simple first day of preschool sign for your students to hold for the picture or even purchase some inexpensive photo props like these. Don’t forget to take a class picture later in the day too!

If you are planning to make end-of-year photo albums or an end-of-the-year slide show for your students, you will definitely want to have pictures from the first day of preschool too! When I taught at a Title One school many of the parents were unable to drop their children off on the first day of school. It really meant a lot to these parents to see a picture of their child on the first day, so don’t forget to take a few to share with parents who might not be able to be there on the first day of preschool too. It will mean a lot to them!

Plan a first day of preschool independent activity.

I know, nothing is really an independent activity when you teach preschoolers. But, try to plan something that your little ones will be able to complete on their own or with little direction and guidance.  I find that it’s really helpful to have an activity like this when students arrive. That way you are able to greet students and answer any quick questions that parents have while your students are busy. This can even be just playing! Here are a few ideas:

Play dough can be a great activity for the first day of school!

  • Put out a few buckets of math manipulatives like counting bears or cubes for students to sort and play with at their tables.
  • Set out a coloring page with some crayons.
  • Put a can of play dough at each student’s spot for play. This was my go-to when I taught, but I know it makes some people cringe.

A first grader is afraid to cross the threshold of the school alone, so I invite parents to the first lesson. Let the child be comfortable because a loved one is next to him, and I extend my warm palm for a small child’s hand. A deep understanding of patriotism comes to our children over the years. But talking about it at an early age should be serious.
The first lesson for first-graders on September 1 I spend in the form of a lesson-holiday “Citizen of Russia”.
The purpose of this holiday lesson is to make it clear to younger students that each of them is a part of Russia. And the future of our Motherland depends on all of us.

    nine0006

  • What should a child know and be able to do before going to school? Requirements, questions and advice to a future first-grader

What are the admission requirements for a first grader?

The official list of questions for preschoolers to which the child must know the answer before
school does not exist. According to the Law of the Russian Federation “On Education”, admission to the first
the class of state and municipal educational institutions is prohibited to carry out on
    competitive basis.
    nine0006

Every child aged 6.5-8 who has no health contraindications has the right to enroll
to first class. However, at the request of the parents, the school may accept the child at an earlier or
later age. The reason for the refusal can only be the lack of vacant places in it.

In total, are all the requirements for admission to grade 1 conditional? Not certainly in that way.
    nine0006

To help parents figure out what to teach their child before school, we
    prepared this review.

Knowledge and skills that will be useful to a first grader

Educational institutions that prepare children with outstanding abilities,
often they test and interview those who want to learn from them. Some schools post on the site
criteria for a child’s readiness for school, and teachers expect a certain level of preparation
children. In the school chosen for admission, it is also worth clarifying what the child usually asks
psychologist, whether written testing is carried out.
    nine0006

Most often, the necessary knowledge and skills are divided into 4 blocks: “General development”, “Logic and
    thinking”, “Reading and speech”, “Mathematics”.

It is useful to independently test a preschooler according to the main criteria in any case. We
collected questions and tasks that will help the future first-grader gain self-confidence,
and you – peace and a sense of accomplishment.
    nine0006

    Reading and speaking

By the age of 6-7, the child should easily memorize and retell small texts (3-5 sentences),
read short sentences and understand their meaning. Also, make up your own stories.
pictures and willingly share thoughts on a given topic. Question, exclamation, statement – senior
a preschooler already understands intonations and knows how to express them.
    nine0006

Also, the future first grader is recommended to know the alphabet; be able to distinguish letters from sounds, vowels
from consonants; find the desired letters at the beginning, middle, end of the word; choose words for a given
    letter divide words into syllables.

In the article “How to teach a child
read” we share ideas on how to competently approach the issue of developing reading skills
with a preschooler and where to start classes.

    Maths

By the first grade, the child has the first serious ideas about mathematics. He can
count from 1 to 10 and vice versa, compare numbers of the first ten, solve simple problems with
    unit subtraction and addition.

Ability to solve simple mathematical problems for
preschooler is not mandatory, but will definitely help the first grader feel
    confidently.

It is not difficult for him to compare a pyramid with a ball in shape, length, width, height.

If your child does not fit the descriptions above 100%, this does not mean at all that he does not
ready to go to first grade. Your task is to help the preschooler develop key abilities,
ignite the desire to develop and learn new things.

Full of Life Learning Center has created a warm and happy place for infants, toddlers, preschool-aged, and school-aged children to thrive and learn. Physical growth and development changes are rapid between birth and three years of age. Physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development is more interrelated for this age group and more dependent on a consistent relationship with an adult caregiver. Our students’ language skills, English and Spanish, are enhanced through oral communication, phonics, writing, vocabulary, personal reading, teacher story time, singing, and pre-reading activities. We encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving. Recognizing that children grow to predictable stages, we treat each child as an individual, working from the level each child has attained and moving one step at a time. We teach a love of learning by allowing children to experience their own stage of development and helping them feel success without pressure. We encourage and establish a positive and productive relationship with families. We ensure a well-run purposeful program responsive to the child’s needs. We offer age appropriate phonics classes, baby sign language, after school tutoring, summer programs, Spanish classes, and ESL classes. With flexible hours, affordable rates, meals and a low Teacher-Student ratio; Full of Life Learning Center is the child care facility for you and your family!

We have enrolled our kids in two different days cards in Katy which were a joke. We finally found a daycare who care about the kids and take pride in their jobs. We really appreciate it! I would highly recommend this facility.

    08/20/2017

Hands down best daycare! Very professional and welcoming. My child has been learning so much. Definitely highly recommend this daycare!

    08/18/2017

I toured the facility recently and was very pleased with the cleanliness of the facility. The staff was very warm and inviting. This daycare has definitely made an impression on me and my childcare needs. I can’t wait to sign my little one up.

    08/10/2017

I took time to visit the center and I was very pleased. They offer potty training for the toddlers. The director was nice too. She was very helpful. The children was in line doing what the teachers asked.

    08/10/2017

You will not find a more caring staff anywhere. The children here are treated and cared for like family. It’s unbelievable how much learning is done. I would highly recommend this daycare!!!

    06/06/2017

My child loves this place!!! As a parent we worry sending our child somewhere new. However from the moment he started Ashley and his teacher has given me weekly updates about his learning ability and progress in learning. They have assisted me to potty train him right when he turned 3, and made this process for me so much easier. He has been at Full of Life Learning Center almost a year, and I definitely see improvement.

    08/26/2015

Excellent Christian based child care facility. The teachers and directors are very nourishing and the facility is Texas School Ready, perfect for anyone transitioning to Pre–K/Kindergarten.

    I learn sooooo much!

    Academic Skills

Circle time is a fundamental part of my day. I learn all the basics from the Alphabet to Counting to 100, Shapes, Colors, Food Groups, Animals and so much more. Each month Miss Tamara introduces a new language. I am greeted in that language and learn to say “please and thank you”. I learn about the country where that language is spoken and how to find it on our world map.

    Social Skills

I have friends and playmates. I learn about Sharing, even when a friend has my favorite toy. I learn about Winning and Losing and Healthy Confict Resolution.

I have my Responsibilities during the day, helping with setup and cleanup. I learn about Manners and Integrety, Not to Tell Lies or Tattle on my friends.

    Music

Music is integral to develop my mind. It Boosts Brain Power, Improves Memory, Teaches Patience, and Fosters Creativity. Miss Tamara presents a variety of well renowned composers, from Beethoven to Tchaikovsky. I play musical instruments, learn the Instruments of the Orchestra and what sounds they make. There will be different genres of music playing daily in the background, to immerse me in the respective Culture and Music genre.

    Creative Arts

Through Creative Art I learn Self Expression, Motor Skills, Visual Learning, Decision Making, Focus and Collaboration. I have so much fun working on Crafts, Posters, Coloring Pages, Playdoh Friday, etc.
