Rainbow Foods – Twin Cities
The produce section of the now defunct Woodbury Rainbow.Rainbow was a grocery store located in the metro area. Shortly before closing there were 32 stores in the metro area. Rainbow operated under the Roundy’s Supermarkets brand. The Roundy’s Supermarkets brand was founded in 1872 in Wisconsin. Roundy’s had a total of 154 stores in Minnesota and Wisconsin. In Wisconsin, they’re called Pick ‘n Save and Copps.
Rainbow offered several deals, including the Roundy fuel rewards card. You could get points on every purchase and once you reached $50 in groceries, you would receive a five cents off per gallon of gas voucher. The vouchers expired every three months allowing you to accumulate multiple cents off per gallon. Each redemption was limited to 20 gallons of gas.
Rainbow also offered double coupons on Wednesdays and sometimes other days throughout the year, mostly Saturdays. Only manufacturer coupons up to $1 were doubled. You were required to have $25 worth of purchases and were limited to 5 manufacturer coupons per transaction. From time to time they offered a “double double daze” where they would accept up to 10 manufacturer coupons.
Downsides of Rainbow included their lack of stock by the end of the week (mostly on items for sale) and the extensive lines on coupon days.

Unlike a “daycare”, Bright Start Academy focuses on developing the whole child by using each experience throughout the day as a learning opportunity. Our award winning programs recognize each child as an individual with different needs and abilities. We encourage our teachers to design their lesson plans to meet your individual child’s needs. Our teaching professionals work with the on-site Program Administrator in developing lesson plans that are specifically tailored for your child’s development with our Start Smart Curriculum. Bright Start Academy’s unique Start Smart Curriculum was developed by early childhood professionals and based on research to engage your child in hands-on learning. We recognize the importance of parents being involved in their child’s learning and strive to develop a partnership with our families to inform you of your child’s progress with ongoing and open communication.
Bright Start Academy’s state of the art schools are designed with your child in mind, giving them ample space to explore, learn, create, and be active. Bright Start Academy supports our professional educators through ongoing training and education – more than doubling the requirements from the State of Missouri. Numerous studies have demonstrated the connection between staff training and program quality. A “daycare” follows the State of Missouri’s licensing rules and regulations; we meet these standards and exceed them by adhering to National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA) standards. As always, Bright Start Academy’s goal is to exceed our parents’ expectations, to maintain high standards, and prepare each child with a strong educational foundation.
Enroll at Bright Start Academy Today!
Current research supports the connection between early childhood education and positive long-term outcomes, such as high school enrollment, crime rates, health, and even increased life expectancy. BSA has been a great place for our kids to go. I was concerned about sending my kids to a center but it has been a blessing in disguise. My little girl just went to Kindergarten this year and she was more than prepared. I can’t thank BSA enough for all of their love, help, guidance, and educating my children to prepare them for school.
Morgan R.
______________
With no immediate family living in close proximity, selecting a child care center was a significant undertaking for my husband and me as first time parents. Immediately upon visiting BSA we felt at ease and impressed with the center’s curriculum, reliability and cleanliness. In the 21 months we have been enrolled at BSA, we continue to be pleased with the level of care provided each day and the intellectual growth of our child. Management and teachers demonstrate a consistent and unwavering affection for all children. As we prepare to welcome our second child, we have no hesitation to remain enrolled at BSA and look forward to watching our children learn and grow within such a loving environment.

Having my first child, I didn’t know what to expect from taking my daughter to daycare. I have been so happy with our experience at Bright Start from the cleanliness to the friendliness! The teachers and staff truly love kids! Even the teachers in the other classrooms know my daughter’s name when we walk through the halls. The staff have been so supportive of me as a first-time, breastfeeding, working mom and that has truly made all the difference in these first months. They love our little girl and I am so thankful to have them in our village!
Leah F.
______________
Bright Start was the only facility that we felt comfortable with when touring centers for our first child. Since he started there at 6 weeks old, he has bonded with many teachers and staff. That makes us feel safe and secure taking him in each day. Now at almost 3 years old, he is very excited to go to daycare and “see friends”. And that is a great feeling for us all!
Bailey C.
______________
Bright Start Academy has been great for our family. Our kids are provided opportunities and experiences throughout the day that enhance their learning and development. The children are the staff’s top priority and they love our children as much as we do. It has been reassuring to know our kids are in great hands!
Charlie A.
______________
My son has been at Bright Start Academy since he was 12 weeks old and we have had nothing but great experience with everyone there. I have absolutely loved every teacher he has had so far and I feel as if they truly care about my child. The teachers, front desk staff and director have always answered my questions to the best of their abilities, and have exceeded my expectations when any issues have arisen. They also keep you very well informed on what’s going on in your child’s classroom especially when kids are out sick, not to mention how clean the facility always is. I have highly recommended BSA to all of my friends and co-workers who have had kids since my son started, and will continue to recommend BSA to everyone. BSA is just awesome all around!
Megan S.
______________
Bright Start has been a great place to send my kids (Ages 3 years and 5 months). They were immediately receptive to handling the issues my strong-willed three year old was experiencing. She gets excited to go to school most mornings so she can play and learn with her friends. The staff is good at handling discipline and the education of my older child.
My younger child needed a little extra TLC when he started at 12 weeks. The staff was great at attending to his needs. They are always willing to listen and, the most important part, address any concerns we have as parents.
This also applies to the director, who always makes time for us if we need it. She is always courteous, quick to respond to e-mail and truly cares for our children, even though they are only 2 in a school of 100+.
David B.
______________
We are lucky enough to have both of our children enrolled at Bright Start Academy; one school-aged child and an 18 month-old. We have been at other childcare centers in town when our school-aged child was younger. We have been very pleased with the education and care the kids receive at Bright Start Academy. The staff are so welcoming and positive. You can tell that they really care for the kids and are as concerned about their learning and development as we are as parents. Choosing a childcare center for your kids is one of the most important decisions/investments you will make as parents, and we have been extremely pleased with our decision to enroll our children at Bright Start Academy!

Many explain the modern name of the continent by the name of Amerigo Vespucci, and not by the name of Christopher Columbus, as a historical misunderstanding and accidental injustice. We cannot agree with this in any way, since it is easy to see that even on a more local scale, among purely “rational” names, only those that somehow correspond to linguistic semi-conscious archetypes take root, which is manifested in the well-known phenomenon of the so-called “folk etymology”. In this case, the similarity in the sound of words sometimes plays a very important role, but such an identification of concepts on the basis of purely sound similarity testifies not so much to their “error” (as the purely “positivist” and “antipsychological” science of the 19th and early 20th centuries believed), but to the stability of semantic structures not at the level of whole words, but at the level of the independent meaning of letters and letter combinations. On a base reminiscent of “folk etymology”, such metaphysical full-fledged and far from “folk” sacred methods as Hindu nirukta and Jewish Kabbalah are based. Be that as it may, we believe that the word “America” in order to be firmly combined with a giant continent, and so significant in its geopolitical mission, must contain a sound concept associated with archaic models of proto-language, rudimentarily preserved by the subconscious of the Eurasian ethnic groups. . nine0003
First of all, the sacred image (and, accordingly, the name) of America should have reflected the idea of its “extremely Western” origin. According to Professor Wirth,[35] the oldest Western sacred center was the land of Mo-Uru, the island of Mo-Uru, located in the northwestern Atlantic. This name is mentioned in Bundahishn (Zoroastrian scripture), where it is called the third after Aryan-Vej site of the great Aryan ancestors. (Aryana-Vedzha itself lay directly on the north pole, on the Arctic continent, which had disappeared many millennia ago, “Arktogeya”). However, it was precisely with the help of this keyword “Mo-Uru” and based on the deciphering of the most ancient runic and proto-runic characters (and in particular, on the deciphering of the linear pre-dynastic script of Egypt, Minoan inscriptions and even ancient rock inscriptions), that Professor Wirth was able to penetrate the secrets of many ethnic and racial cataclysms of prehistory. Mo-Uru, in its various phonetic variations, is also mentioned in the Bible (“Moriya” is the name of the hill where Avaraam was preparing to sacrifice Isaac to God), and in the Celtic sagas, which speak of the country “Morias” or “Murias”, the homeland of the northern “divine” tribes of the Tuatha de Danann, and in the Scandinavian cults, where the famous stone circle of the cult pagan center in Uppsala was called “Mora-sten”, that is, “Mor’s stone”, etc. Wirth suggests (and convincingly proves in his detailed and thoroughly argued works) that the “Amorites”, “Moors” and even the oceanic “Maori” were the descendants of the most ancient people from this sacred center in the North Atlantic, and the geography of this land was later transferred to the historical toponymy of the new settlements of the “Mo-Uru people “. It is curious that “Amorites” in Hebrew means precisely “the people of the West” (am uru). There is also a sacred doctrine, mentioned by Guénon, which claims that the Jewish tradition itself is “Western” in its symbolic and prehistoric origin, as evidenced, in particular, by the Jewish custom of celebrating the New Year in the fall, and counting the day from the evening, emphasizing the special significance “Western” orientation, which, due to universal historical correspondences, corresponds to evening and autumn, the “sunset” period of the day or year. In this perspective, even Ur of the Chaldees, from which Abram emerged into the promised land, is rather a substitute for Mo-Uru, the “North-Atlantic Ur”, since even the Zohar states that “Ur”, where Abram originally dwelt, symbolizes the “higher spiritual state”, from which Abram, by providential necessity, “descended” down. (It is curious to note that the Jews themselves quite often share the Western origin of their tradition, as seen in the early Zionist projects for a “Jewish state” in America, or in Simon Wiesenthal’s books on Jewish American prehistory and Edmund Wiseman’s “America, New Jerusalem. ” ) nine0003
So, the mysterious Mo-Uru means precisely the extra-European sacred continent lying in the West, in the Atlantic. But “mouru”, “amuru” or “amoru” (such forms are historically found in various traditions) is phonetically very close to “America”. And it is by no means excluded (and even quite probable) that it was precisely such a “coincidence,” or rather, providential correspondence, that served as an unconscious or semi-conscious basis for securing such a profane externally and such sacred internal name for the New World. nine0003

What microprocessors are being developed in Russia? And what will happen to them because of the sanctions?
TSMC’s Taiwan factory is no longer available to Russian microprocessor developers. For a number of possibilities, this production has no alternatives in the world.
What will the companies do and what are their prospects?
Taiwanese company TSMC is a leader in the production of the most advanced chips. Among her clients are Apple, Qualcomm, Nvidia. Last year, it accounted for 54% of the world market for their production. In February, TSMC stopped production of Baikal, Elbrus processors and other Russian-designed chips. We talked with experts about the present and future of domestic microprocessors.
There are five main developers of microprocessors in Russia: MCST, Baikal, Modul, Elvis and Milander. “Of these, Milandra has the largest production volumes and nomenclature. The products of the companies intersect in areas of application, but each can be identified as the main direction,” says Ivan Pokrovsky, executive director of the Association of Electronics Developers and Manufacturers.
“Milandr” – microcontrollers of the Internet of things. For example, for meters, industrial automation.
MCST (Elbrus processors) — central processors of servers, data storage systems, supercomputers, for heavy computing systems in industrial automation.
“Baikal” – central processors of personal devices. Processors “Baikal” series M – for personal and industrial computers, T – network telecom equipment, the new processor S – for servers.
“Elvis” – network processors for telecom.
“Module” – digital, graphic and neuroprocessors.
For example, Elbrus and Baikal processors are important for creating a critical information infrastructure (CII) in Russia – they are designed for workstations and servers of large companies and government agencies.
Critical information infrastructure is a set of IT systems that are critical for the operation of the main areas of society and the state, such as healthcare, transport, communications, energy, defense industry, etc. For several years, Russia has been preparing the transition of CII facilities to software and equipment of domestic developers.
Today, the critical information infrastructure is dominated by equipment and software from foreign manufacturers. “In personal computers and servers – solutions based on Intel and AMD. IBM has a large share in data storage systems. In Internet of Things equipment – from STMicroelectronics. In video processing systems, artificial intelligence – Nvidia,” Ivan Pokrovsky lists.
“All high-performance Russian-designed microprocessors were produced at TSMC,” says Ivan Pokrovsky.
Russian processor developers are mostly so-called fabless companies, those that do not have their own factories. This means that they develop the architecture and design of the processor, but for the release of the silicon chip itself as the final product, they enter into contracts with the factory. This is a common practice, many of the most notable developers in the world work in contract manufacturing. For example MediaTek.
“In 2005-2013, the first series of Elbrus chips for technical processes 130-90 nm (nanometers) was produced in small batches at the Mikron plant in Zelenograd. Then the first problems appeared. The second generation of Elbrus-2SM processors did not show good performance according to 90 nm standards, there was a lot of marriage. The plant’s general-purpose process itself was not tuned to the Elbrus processors, which brought down local production. The third generation and subsequent generations of MCST processors were produced abroad, mainly at TSMC factories,” says Alexey Petrov, entrepreneur, chip design specialist.
The MCST also created an adapted version of Elbrus-4SM/65 nm for production at the Mikron facility. “But the enterprise was unable to switch to the technical process necessary for this – 65 nm and achieve an acceptable quality,” Petrov specifies.
There are more than 400 factory lines in the world for the production of various chips.
But the production of high-performance microprocessors for small technical processes – 16-10 nm and less – is no more than a dozen. The smaller the nanometer, the higher the performance and speed of the chip: a 5nm chip is faster and more productive than a 10nm one. The first has a much more complicated design, more complicated and more expensive to manufacture.
“The transistor in a 10 nm processor is only 50 helium atoms in size. To understand the scale: the size of a human hair is about 80-110 microns – a chip with about 1.2 million transistors can easily fit on its cut. To create such a micro miracle, you need extremely complex TSMC Taiwan Factory is the world leader in advanced technology for 90nm, 65nm, 45nm, 40nm, 28nm, 20nm, 16/12nm, 10nm, 7nm, 5nm ICs, and now has more than 30 manufacturing lines in Taiwan, two in the U.S. and two in China. For such a large production, the plant has an entire logistics network for suppliers of various components for the production of chips. The production of small chips is an extremely complex process that requires very complex technologies, unique machines and an incredibly complex infrastructure. and it is extremely unrealistic to support such a plant, say, for technological standards of 10 nm, with the resources of one country, this requires resources, unique machines and rare engineering achievements of many different wounds,” says Alexei Petrov.
Only two companies in the world, TSMC and Samsung, can produce 5nm chips today. On the 10nm process technology – Intel, TSMC, Samsung. GlobalFoundries was going to launch its own production of 10-nanometer chips, but refused, having encountered difficulties. And for the release of 14-nanometer, she shared part of the developments with Samsung in order to jointly create production. Meanwhile, TSMC has begun experimental production of 3nm chips and is about to launch a 2nm processor factory.
“Intel, comparable in technical level to TSMC, does not fulfill contract manufacturing orders, only produces its own products. And Samsung specializes in memory chips, does not have the IP block libraries necessary for the production of microprocessors. In fact, in the contract manufacturing of high-performance microprocessors, TSMC does not have alternatives in the world,” explains Ivan Pokrovsky.
This takes about two or three years. In rare cases, with ready-made developments and well-established connections, it is faster.
Development has been going on for one and a half to two years.
“Developers and chip designers create an architectural sketch of the processor based on customer requirements. Engineers design the electrical architecture, the design of the chip adapts to the specific technical process of the particular plant where it will be produced. Transfer it to another plant, even working on similar technical standards, it is often impossible without a redesign,” says Alexey Petrov.
It takes another year and a half from growing a silicon billet to the final – a finished microprocessor, the plant has its own line for small technical processes, and it will not be possible to produce earlier if desired.
“Production goes through more than 500 high-tech stages,” continues Alexey Petrov. “On a large silicon wafer—a wafer—conductors, transistors, and many layers—up to 13–15 layers for modern chips—are formed using lithography, doping, and diffusion. many chips are gradually formed on one large wafer. The wafer is cut into separate chip-crystals, conductors are attached to them, and they are mounted in a case. Further, as a rule, the chips are tested again and pass the output control, only then it turns into a relatively final product in the form of a familiar processor in a package.
Today in Russia there are no factories for the production of processors according to the standards of less than 65 nm. And TSMC carried out the production of chips of this nanometer for MCST. In addition, MCST has developed a 16 nm chip.
Last week, RBC reported, citing a source, that the MCST company, which develops Elbrus processors, is negotiating with the Mikron factory in Zelenograd to transfer production to their facilities. At the request of TASS, the MCST replied that they are not giving official comments now. The letter to the press service of Mikron was not answered at the time of publication of this text.
In addition to Mikron, there is a NM-Tech plant in Zelenograd. The company has begun building a factory to produce 28nm processors. Previously, NM-Tech brought specialists from Taiwan to Russia to work in its production.
Due to sanctions, the manufacturer of Baikal processors, JSC Baikal Electronics, has lost the opportunity to use the externally patented architecture of the British company ARM. ARM is a processor designer that licenses already developed architectures and helps manufacturers adapt solutions.
“For the processor, you need to create a whole range of software products, compilers, libraries of standard functions, documentation and support. Without this, the processor will be a useless silicon brick. Using compatibility with the ARM architecture, it is many times easier to use all the developments that already exist in the world. Now for developers “Baikal” chips are not available for new licenses. Released and already operating processors will not be affected by this, the old issued licenses are not revoked. To release new ones, you will have to look for or create your own architecture, “explains Alexey Petrov.
“Now for such production – factories with production standards for 28 nm processors, unfortunately, there is nothing – neither technological equipment, nor materials, nor process engineers with the appropriate competencies. Of this, the most important is the school of process engineers. In the foreseeable future high-performance microprocessors can only be produced at foreign factories. The challenge is to overcome sanctions restrictions and dependence on one company, obtain alternative options and increase the stability of international cooperation chains.Russian factories need to produce medium-performance microcircuits for tasks that are not so demanding on speed, as to the level of security,” Ivan Pokrovsky believes.
“Since the 1970s, Taiwan has been building a technology park and actively developing it,” says Alexei Petrov. “This is a giant infrastructure of the Hsinchu City Science Park. More than 2,500 top technologies from all over the world are assembled in one plant. Years were spent on training specialists, years for the emergence of factories, businesses, designers and infrastructure Approximately 20–30 years of purposeful work The current 65 nm process, which is in Russia, is 15 years behind, the level of approximately 2000–2006. In 2015 Mikron made test releases of 65nm chips; for understanding: at the same time, Intel and TSMC mastered chips using 16nm process technology. It is possible to produce acceptable chips for the space industry, where they are in demand, but for advanced and competitive processors on the world market and mobile high-tech need newer and smaller manufacturing processes.”

At the March 8 presentation, Apple introduced the new iPhone, iPad and M1 Ultra processor. Denis Samsonov, publisher of the Open Systems publishing house, explains in a column for Forbes why processors have become the main event not only of this conference, but also of the last few years.
Tim Cook finally emerged from the shadow of his great predecessor. The “Cook Age” is a phenomenon no less significant for the company than the legacy of Steve Jobs. Under him, Apple developed its own processors and formed the technological base for growth for years to come. Processors have been the company’s weakest link since the first Macintosh was introduced. Initially, Apple made a bet on the Motorola 68K processors. Then – to the Motorola-IBM alliance and PowerPC processors. Then I switched to Intel. Every transition was painful. The key difference between Apple and all market participants is vertical integration. PC manufacturers assemble a computer based on the Intel platform. They put the Microsoft operating system on it. The share of the assembler in the supply chain is not so large. In contrast, Apple controlled both the hardware and the operating system. But she did not have her own processors. This continued until the advent of the ARM era.

British ARM does not manufacture processors. It develops and licenses the architecture. ARM processors were originally designed for mobile devices. Their key characteristic was low power consumption. Gradually, productivity grew, and energy consumption remained low. Apple is not the first company to launch laptops based on the ARM architecture, but, as has often happened before, the first to actually do it. The Apple M1 line of processors, without losing to comparable Intel models in performance, reaches peak values at a noticeably lower power consumption. The M1 Ultra processor presented today is positioned as a competitor to already top-end Intel models.

Limits of control
New Apple processors are manufactured at the facilities of the Taiwanese company TSMC using a 5 nm process technology. Once upon a time, the dimension of the technical process described the density of transistors on a chip. With the advancement deep into nanotechnology, the question of what the distance between what and what must be measured in order to describe the dimensionality of the technical process has become more and more confusing. In the general case, “the less the better”, but it is already difficult to compare processors released by different companies. TSMC manufactures 5nm processors and plans to reach 3nm in the foreseeable future. IBM announced the achievement of 2 nm. Intel manufactures 10 nm processors, but company representatives have already declared this characteristic to be meaningless and plan to abandon the process dimension when describing their chips in the future. Everything suggests that we are approaching physical boundaries, beyond which new ideas and concepts are needed.
AAPL Stock Quotes from TradingView
The new Apple M1 Ultra superprocessor is one of the signs that the technology is nearing its limit. To create it, the company soldered together two “normal” processors. To do this, a secret interface was laid in their architecture. Doubling the number of “crystals” does not mean doubling performance. Not all tasks can be calculated in parallel, and those that can are already broken into parts within each chip for processing by the cores. At the presentation, they called a 60% increase in productivity. But even these percentages seem too optimistic to me. The technological barrier is close. Apple has every chance to reach it first.

For the first time, I don’t remember how many years, Apple introduced a new computer model. Mac Studio desktop workstation for creative professionals. A new processor will be installed in one of the versions of Mac Studio. The price of the solution is not exorbitant. This is another advantage of own electronics.
Two other new additions, the third generation of the budget iPhone SE and the new iPad Air, are examples of technology transfer down the product line. Models will receive processors from the top lines and a noticeable increase in performance.

A safe and loving in-home daycare for infants and toddlers (6 weeks-3 years of age) located in Ballwin, MO. With more than 26 years of experience, I feel confident in my abilities to provide your child with anenvironment to grow and learn. I love what I do! I am a happily married father of 5 beautiful daughters and a proud grandfather of 4 wonderful children. My daycare started out of necessity. Back in 1995, my wife and I could not find suitable childcare for our youngest daughter. So naturally, we decided to start our own!
I care for no more than 5 children to ensure each child’s needs are met. I firmly believe that childcare needs to be excellent, but still affordable. My current rate $240/week. I know how important it is to find a person worthy enough to take care of your child. Upon your request, I can provide references from families throughout my 26 years of experience to help you make this decision a little easier and take a look at the reviews posted on my page. To schedule a visit, please contact me at (636) 675-1435 or [email protected]….

Stefka is an amazing person, teacher and caregiver. Every morning, I leave my kids with her, knowing that she will take the best care of them. She feeds them with well balanced and nutritious food, that everykid needs in their life-fresh fruits and vegetables and cooks for them twice a day. I can’t be more thankful for that.
Stefka always sends me messages of my kid’s activities during the day with several pictures. I always know what they ate that day and what activities they had.
Stefka is just the best. My kids love her, and they can not wait to go to school every morning. She takes very good care of them and I can not express how much I appreciate what she does for my kids.
Stefka also teaches them manners, how to be polite, how to be a nice person, how to take care of each other, also how to do things on their own, how to be independent. I love how well organized the school is. She keeps everything super clean and organized. The school is very bright and the environment is perfect for the kids. She has a lot of Montessori materials and constantly bringing new things to the kids, so they can stay engaged and interested in what they are learning.
My kids learned so much, since they started going to Stefka’s school. They amaze me every time. Every day they have different activities and she keeps them busy with so much interesting things.
She is so passionate with what she does, that I wish every teacher on this planet is like her.
Love the school and Stefka and highly recommend her!!!…

Preschool education – New World Encyclopedia
Preschool education is education that focuses on educating children from the ages of infancy until six years old. The system of preschool education varies widely, with different approaches, theories, and practices within different school jurisdictions. The term preschool education includes such programs as nursery school, day care, or kindergarten, which are occasionally used interchangeably, yet are distinct entities. While pedagogies differ, there is the general agreement that preschool is responsible for providing education before the commencement of statutory education.
The proliferation of preschool education in the twentieth century can be connected to advances in developmental psychology, such as in the work of Jean Piaget which revealed the nature of psychological development that occurs in the early years of childhood, and from the educators such as Froebel who recognized that children need stimulation, particularly that provided by play and role playing, from a young age in order to develop their full potential, as well as from the needs of large numbers of working mothers to provide a good environment for their young children during working hours. Thus, preschool environments vary depending on whether their main focus is care of the children such as in a daycare program, which nonetheless acts as a socialization experience that extends beyond the family and prepares the children for school, and those which were specifically designed to provide early educational experiences for young children, such as the kindergarten.

While it can be argued that young children do not need these experiences as the family should be their primary learning environment, for many children a preschool environment offers experiences, educational, social, and other basic needs that unfortunately may not be satisfied in the home. Preschool education, thus, is a vital component of the development of many young people. Given the importance of the youth of any society for its future, investment in such programs, together with investment in the families who are the primary caregivers and first teachers of their children, can go a long way to support the development of good citizens for the future.

History
In the nineteenth century, several European educators, including Robert Owen of Great Britain, Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi of Switzerland, Friedrich Froebel in Germany, and Maria Montessori of Italy began to develop educational systems designed for early childhood in the hope of actively helping children during one of the most crucial stages in human development.[1] Robert Owen was responsible for creating the New Lanark school for young children, most of whom were from the poor workers in Owen’s cotton mills. His school was successful, and spurred similar institutions in England.[2]
Froebel came up with the term “kindergarten” (meaning “children’s garden”) and created the first kindergarten school. Froebel believed that human beings were given almost limitless potential from God and saw kindergarten education as a means to start the process of realizing such potential at an early age. His curriculum focused on giving children the freedom to discover their abilities and personalities without forcing pre-determined self-images upon them, supporting the development of creativity, language, and social skills.[3] Froebel’s kindergarten program was spread by a number of teachers he trained, including the sisters Bertha Meyer von Ronge and Margarethe Meyer Schurz in Europe and America, although their programs were still taught in German.
Elizabeth Peabody and Susan Blow developed English kindergarten curricula in the US, where the “kindergarten” became part of required elementary education beginning at age five. However, in 1965, the Head Start program was initiated as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “War on Poverty.” This program provided early pre-school education opportunities to children of low income families, providing health and nutritional services as well as learning opportunities.
While the German idealism and Christian aspects that Froebel and other early preschool educators advocated were not as popular in secularly run educational systems, nonetheless the core principals were widely understood and beneficial to helping child development and a more educated public. Generally, however, preschool education is a matter of choice; formal, state mandated education beginning with entry into elementary school.
Philosophy
Early experience with a keyboard
Early childhood education (ECE) is a pedagogical approach covering the education of children from the period from birth to six years of age.
Child development occurs in a number of domains:
Physical development – Concerning the physical growth and the development of both gross (such as walking) and fine motor (such as finger movement) control of the body.
Perception and sensory development – How a child functions using the senses and the ability to process the information gained.
Communication and language development – Using visual and sound stimuli, especially in the acquisition of language, also in the exchange of thoughts and feelings.
Cognitive development – Concerning how the individual thinks and react.
Emotional Development – Concerning children’s increasing awareness and control of their feelings and how does he react to these feelings in a given situation.
Social Development – Concerning the child’s identity, their relationship with others, and understanding their place within a social environment.
A wide array of educational philosophies circulate through the field in regards to how best promote healthy development in these areas. Some professionals adhere more closely to a behaviorist theory based on the work of those such as John B. Watson, B. F. Skinner, and Edward Thorndike. Others hold to the more unstructured maturationist theory popularized by Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Maria Montessori. Additionally, stage theories such as those of Sigmund Freud and Erik Erikson are used to look at social and emotional development. Many early childhood teacher education programs teach a mix of theories dominated by the constructivist approach put forth by Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky.
Regardless of the theoretical underpinnings, in practice early childhood education is largely child-centered education. Therefore, there is a focus on the importance of play. Play provides children with the opportunity to actively explore, manipulate, and interact with their environment. It allows children to experiment with the world around them and the emotional world inside them. To many it might seem like mere entertainment, but during such activities progress takes place in skill building, problem solving, overcoming physical and mental challenges, and so forth. Playing with products made especially for the preschool children helps a child build self confidence, encourages independent learning, and clears his concepts. For the development of their fine and large or gross motor movements, and for the growth of the child’s eye-hand coordination, it is extremely important for him to ‘play’ with the natural things around him. It encourages children to investigate, create, discover, and motivate them to take risks and add to their understanding of the world. It challenges children to achieve new levels of understanding of events, people, and the environment by interacting with concrete materials.[4] Hands-on activities create authentic experiences in which children begin to feel a sense of mastery over their world and a sense of belonging and understanding of what is going on in their environment.
This use of play follows from Jean Piaget’s idea that children should actively participate in their world and various environments so as to ensure they are not ‘passive’ learners but ‘little scientists’ who are actively engaged.[5]
Different preschool environments
The different preschool environments cover those in which education is the main focus, such as kindergarten, to those in which the function is basic care of the young child, such as Daycare. Regardless of the level of overt educational goals, however, children in these environments develop social skills as well as developing familiarity with a situation in which the child is separated from his or her parents for an extended period and must spend time in the company of peers who are not their siblings. When the child learns these skills successfully, preschool education plays a valuable role in preparing the child for school. Preschool programs also may focus on aspects of health, nutrition, and hygiene that may be lacking in their home environment. Again, these experiences are part of socializing the child into the larger community. Programs such as Head Start were designed with these aspects as specific goals.
Day care
Main article: Day care
Sawara-nursery-school, Katori-city, Japan
Day care or child care is care of a child during the day by a person other than the child’s parents or legal guardians, typically someone outside the child’s immediate family. The service is known as “child care” in the United Kingdom and Australia and “day care” in America. Child care or day care is provided in nurseries or creches or by childminders caring for children in their own homes. Child care or day care is ongoing care during specific periods, such as the parents’ time at work. Child care can also take on a more formal structure, with education, child development, and discipline falling into the fold of services.
Where the market is sufficiently large or there are government subsidies for daycare, for-profit corporate day care exists. In North America, Bright Horizons Family Solutions is one of the largest such companies.[6] It is a publicly traded company operating over 600 daycare centers.[7] The Australian government’s childcare subsidy has allowed the creation of a large private-sector industry in that country. ABC Learning Centres is a publicly traded company running about 1000 daycare centers in Australia and New Zealand and another 500 in the US. [8] Another factor favoring large corporate day cares is the existence of childcare facilities in the workplace. Large corporations often do not handle this employee benefit directly themselves and will seek out large corporate providers to manage their daycares. Most smaller for-profit day cares operate out of a single location.
Non-profit day cares have some structural advantages over for-profit operations. They may receive preferential treatment in rent, especially if they are affiliated with a church that is otherwise unoccupied during the week, or with a school that has surplus space. Location within a school may further bring the advantage of coordinated programs with the school and the advantage of a single location for parents who have older school-age children. Parents are typically the legal owners of the non-profit day care and will routinely provide consulting services (for example accounting, legal, human resource) for free. Non-profits have an advantage in fund-raising as most people will not donate to a for-profit organization. Non-profits, however, are typically limited in size to a single location as the parent-owners have no motivation to manage other locations where their children are not present. They may suffer from succession issues as children grow and parents leave the management of the day care to others. Local governments, often municipalities, may operate non-profit day care centers.
Home day cares are operated by a single individual out of their home. This is often a stay-at-home parent who seeks supplemental income while caring for their own child. Home day care providers may also be certified. Local legislation may regulate the number and ages of children allowed and subject the home to more stringent safety regulations before it is considered an official day care center. As home day cares do not pay rent, they are typically less expensive than day care centers.
Local legislation may regulate the operation of day care centers. The legislation will define what constitutes a day care (so as to not regulate individual baby sitters). It may specify the physical facilities (washroom, eating, sleeping, lighting levels, and so on). The minimum window space may be such that it precludes day cares from being in a basement. It may specify the minimum floor space per child and the maximum number of children per room. It may mandate minimum outdoor time (for example two hours for programs six hours or longer). It may mandate staffing ratios (for example 1:3 for under 18 months, with higher ratios for older children). Legislation may mandate qualifications of supervisors. Staff typically do not require any qualifications but staff under the age of eighteen may require supervision.
Nursery School
A nursery school is a school for children between the ages of three and five, staffed by qualified teachers and other professionals who encourage and supervise educational play rather than simply providing childcare.[9] In some jurisdictions the provision of nursery school services is on a user pays or limited basis while some governments fund nursery school services.
In the UK, pre-school education in nursery classes or schools is fully funded by the government and is generally available to children aged over three. Pre-school education can be provided by childcare centers, playgroups, nursery schools, and nursery classes within primary schools. Private nursery education is also available throughout the UK and varies between structured pre-school education and a service offering child-minding facilities.
In Scotland children are entitled to a place in a nursery class when they reach their third birthday. This gives parents the option of two years of funded pre-school education before beginning primary one, the first year of compulsory education. Nursery children who are three years old are referred to as ante-pre-school whilst children who are four years old are termed pre-school. Pre-school education in Scotland is planned around the document “A curriculum framework for children 3 to 5,” [10] which identifies learning intentions around the following five areas of development:
Emotional, Personal and Social Development,
Communication and Language,
Knowledge and Understanding of the World,
Expressive and Aesthetic Development,
Physical Development and Movement
In the United States, nursery school is provided in a variety of settings. In general, nursery school is meant to develop children through planned programs, rather than simply caring for the child in a daycare environment.
Kindergarten
Main article: Kindergarten
Kindergarten (German, literally means “children’s garden”) is a form of education for young children which serves as a transition from home to the commencement of more formal schooling. Children are taught to develop basic skills through creative play and social interaction. In the United States (and Canada) kindergartens are usually administered in an elementary school as part of the educational system (the K in K-12 schools). Children usually attend at ages five to six but in some states they may start as young as four. Kindergarten is considered the first year of formal education although the child may have gone to pre-school/nursery school. It is, however, considered a grade, and not an optional pre-school experience.
In most countries, kindergartens are not part of compulsory education, although in some they may be government run, and attendance may be required when children reach a specified age.
Kindergarten St. Michael in Bietigheim.
The original German Kindergarten (plural Kindergärten) is not part of the actual school system. The term Vorschule, meaning ‘before school,’ is used for educational efforts in Kindergärten, which are handled differently in each German state. Children between the ages of three and six attend Kindergärten, which are often run by city or town administrations, churches, or registered societies that pursue a certain educational goal, e.g., as represented by Montessori, or Reggio Emilia. Kita (short for Kindertagesstätte), meaning children’s daycare center, as they are frequently called, can be open from 7 A.M. to 5 P.M. and may also house a Kinderkrippe, meaning nursery school, for children between the ages of nine months and two years, and possibly an afternoon Hort (normally associated to a primary school) for school-age children aged six to ten who spend the time after their lessons there.
In Israel, a fully developed kindergarten (or Gan) system has been developed to cope with the extremely high percentage of working women in society. There are two streams, private commercial and state funded. Attendance in kindergarten is compulsory from the age of five years. Private kindergartens are supervised by the Ministry of Education and cater for children from three months to five years. They cater for children from three to six years in three age groups; ages three to four (Trom Trom Hova), four to five (Trom Hova), five to six (Hova). At the conclusion of the Hova year (five to six) the child will either begin primary school or will repeat the Hova year, if not deemed psychologically and cognitively ready for primary school.[11]
In Morocco, pre-school is known as école maternelle, Kuttab or Ar-Rawd. State-run, free maternelle schools are available throughout the kingdom, welcoming children aged from two to five (although in many places, children under three may not be granted a place). It is not compulsory, yet almost 80 percent of children aged three to five attend. It is regulated by the Moroccan department of education.
Kindergarten on the Ministry of Agriculture in Afghanistan
In Afghanistan, the equivalent term to kindergarten is کودکستان, pronounced as kudakistan (kudak – means child and stan – means land) and is not part of the actual school system. Children between the age of three and six attend kindergartens which are often run by government. In China, the equivalent term to kindergarten is (幼兒園), pronounced as you er yuan. Before Kindergarten, children may go to nursery for two years. At the age of four children begin Kindergarten and attend until age six. In India, pre-school is divided into two stages – lower kindergarten (LKG) and upper kindergarten (UKG). Typically, an LKG class would comprise children three to four years of age, and the UKG class would comprise children four to five years of age. [12]

You want the best for your kids but when it comes to preschool, paying for the best can be a burden. The Clark County School District has preschool programs at 219 of it’s 230 elementary schools. But if that doesn’t work, city leaders want you to have quality, affordable options.
“All right. now who else would like to be a farm animal? Me! Me! One at a time. So Leia what farm animal would you like to be? I want to be a cow!
Outside at the Acelero Learning Center in the middle of Las Vegas, kids use their imaginations.
“What do you see on the trees? Leaves!”
Inside, they read books and create. Every activity designed to prepare these kids for kindergarten. Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman says, “If we can education everybody equitably make it an even playing field, all these youngsters who are born in the areas where there aren’t the same positive pieces, crime will go down, cost to government and to society to care for people. Once you have an education, you have an equal opportunity to do something with your life.”
Mayor Goodman sets aside city funding to help support several preschool programs like this. For qualifying families, it’s free. Others pay on a sliding scale. For those who can afford to pay for all of it, tuition here at the Acelero Learning Center runs $175 a week.
We caught up to Katie Decker, Principal of 3 CCSD elementary schools to ask her how vital a preschool education is. Two of her schools offer preschool but the third doesn’t. “There is a significant difference particularly with language when they’re not able to participate in preschool education.”
The experts say higher income, highly educated families talk more to their kids. They also read more to their kids. But for many children growing up in our cities, this kind of classroom exposure is vital to their kindergarten success–a fact that’s not lost on city leaders in Henderson either.
When you visit the Valley View Recreation Center, you see all of the things you’d expect: basketball, racquetball, and fitness equipment. But what you might not expect is Preschool. Seven preschool classrooms take up an entire side of the recreation center.
The preschool program at the City of Henderson is licensed by the state of Nevada. Everything from the curriculum to playtime has a purpose. The program has become so popular it keeps growing and is one of the most highly rated parts of Henderson’s parks and rec program.
Tuition for 2-half days a week is as low as $65 a month. Three full days a week? $240 a month. If that’s still too steep, there are options according to Adam Blackmore, the Recreation Superintendent. “We consider this program to be affordable but that’s a subjective definition so we have a strong scholarship program.”
Blackmore says education is a priority for the city of Henderson. And they want everyone to have access to it. “We place strong emphasis on accessibility for all income levels for all social and equity levels.”

United Way of Southern Nevada Provides Free Early Education To Hundreds of Local Families
Ensuring Southern Nevada preschoolers have access to a quality education through
$4,297,510 in scholarships
United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) has selected 19 early education centers with over 30 classrooms to receive $4,297,510 in scholarships to help local families enroll their children in preschool for free or at a reduced cost. Since 2018, the Nevada Department of Education and United Way of Southern Nevada have helped over 2,000 students get the education they deserve through the Nevada Ready! State Pre-K program.
“We have seen the lives of thousands of working families positively changed through access to affordable, high-quality early education,” said Julie Houchins, UWSN Senior Director of Early Education. “We believe that every child in our community deserves the opportunity to succeed in school, and this program ensures teachers have the necessary resources to support their students.”
To expand access to high-quality early education across the state, UWSN is working in collaboration with the Nevada Department of Education and United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra to develop a similar Pre-K program to support rural communities in northern Nevada. Further program information will become available in the coming months.
The early education centers below have been selected to receive funding to provide scholarships for preschool and pre-k enrollment in Southern Nevada:
Scholarships have been issued through qualified centers to families in need based on childcare center recommendations and referrals. All centers participate in the Quality Rating Improvement Systems (QRIS) created by the Nevada Department of Education.

We recommend visiting
Pre-school education.
The main goal of the development of preschool education in the region is to realize the right to quality and affordable education that provides equal starting conditions for the full physical and mental development of children as the basis for their successful schooling. nine0085
One of the main directions is ensuring the availability of pre-school education.
On the territory of the Rybinsk region there are 2,690 children of preschool age, of which 1,709 are children aged 3 to 7 years.
Pre-school education services are provided by 14 kindergartens and 5 pre-school groups in general education institutions. Pre-school education covers 1,643 children aged 2 months to 7 years.
The network of combined groups is expanding, in which healthy children and children with disabilities are brought up (over the past year, the number of children with disabilities in kindergartens has increased by 27%). nine0085
For the category of pupils who, for one reason or another, do not attend kindergartens, there are consulting centers based on the MBDOU “Kindergarten” Kolosok “Zaozerny, MBDOU “Novosolyansky kindergarten” Kolosok “, MBDOU” Kindergarten “Vasilyok” Zaozerny, MBDOU “Sayan Kindergarten “Magic City”. Parents can receive qualified assistance from all categories of preschool education specialists in person or by phone.
In three years, the municipality introduced an additional 475 places for children aged 3 to 7 years, which made it possible by January 1, 2016 to fully provide places for all needy children of preschool age. nine0085
Today, a lot of work is being done to cover children aged 1. 6 to 3 years with preschool education: on-site consultations are held for parents whose children do not attend kindergartens, special attention is paid to the development of adaptation groups for young children. Practically every preschool institution has resources to create short stay groups for children aged 1.6 to 3 years.
This year field consultations were held in settlements where there are no educational institutions. At consultation points for parents (whose children do not attend preschool), a free service is provided to prepare the child for school; education, upbringing, children in the conditions of home education; providing psychological and pedagogical assistance to parents with young children. In 2016, specialists visited 10 settlements, and about 120 parents of preschoolers attended the meetings. nine0104
The educational process in preschool educational institutions is carried out by 211 teachers, including 171 educators.
The activities of the preschool education system are aimed at introducing the state educational standard for preschool education (hereinafter referred to as the FSES DO).
The traditional type of methodological work at the municipal level is the professional association of employees of preschool institutions – regional methodological associations. Various forms of pedagogical activity were presented at the RMO: integrated classes in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard, joint activities of children and adults, games, research, project activities. At the meetings, theoretical and practical issues were considered and discussed, and the experience of teachers was exchanged on a wide variety of issues. nine0085
During the year, regional methodological associations were held on the topics “Modern approaches to the content and organization of the educational process in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard of Education”, “Socio-moral development of the child”, “Children’s experimentation – a means of intellectual development of preschoolers”, “Organization of independent and joint children’s activities, taking into account the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard “
In order to exchange experience in the implementation of the Federal State Educational Standard, teams of preschool educational institutions took an active part in inter-municipal seminars in the territories of the Eastern District. Kindergarten teachers Zvezdochka, Thumbelina, Kolosok in Zaozerny presented successful educational practices, having received positive expert opinions. nine0085
At present, preschool educational institutions are bringing the environment in kindergarten in accordance with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard, with an emphasis on the creation of education centers. In order to create appropriate conditions for the subject-spatial environment, for the development of children’s creativity, the formation of cognitive interest among preschoolers, regional competitions were held: “Nature and Fantasy”, theatrical performances “A fairy tale came to visit us”, “Model of educational activity”. nine0085
the educational process in all preschool institutions is determined by the main general educational program of preschool education, adapted educational programs.
As part of the educational process, teachers ensured a lively, interested communication of the child with adults and peers in various activities. The leading place was still assigned to the game.
The task of each teaching staff was not to accelerate the development of the child, not to speed up the timing and pace of transferring him to the “rails” of schooling, but, above all, to create conditions for each preschooler to fully reveal his individual abilities and interests, taking into account age. nine0008

Important Life Lessons Our Grandparents Taught Us
Grandparents are known for spoiling their grandchildren with lots of attention and secret treats, but they also offer unrivaled patience and guidance. They always give the best advice, thanks to decades worth of firsthand knowledge and insight into the world.
The life lessons we learn from our grandparents play a huge role in shaping our past, present and future. Our grandparents have taught us too many lessons to count, but some of our favorites are…
Be on your best behavior
Grandparents instill in us the importance of being polite and courteous from an early age- and they are not afraid to call out any mistakes! Although this can seem demanding at times, it’s all in our best interest. Learning how to mind our P’s and Q’s sets us up with the tools for future success in numerous situations. Using good manners shows consideration and respect for those around you and encourages them to reciprocate it back.
True beauty never fades
True beauty shines from within and is measured by character. Outer appearance is fleeting and unpredictable.
Remember where you came from
We owe our existence to those who came before us. Grandparents connect us to our roots and help us understand more about who we are and where we came from. We are an accumulation of generations past, and sometimes learning more about them can unearth similarities and clear up things about ourselves.
Take lots of pictures
It may take your grandma 10 minutes to figure out how to turn the camera on, but that never stops her form capturing an important moment. Someday you will thankful to reflect on those memories and the people in them!
All problems have solutions
No matter what hardships life throws at you, there’s always a next step. Grandparents have been around long enough to experience all manners of loss and pain. When faced with unimaginable situations, they found the strength to dust themselves off and carry on.
Style is timeless
Don’t waste time and money worrying about the latest fashions. Trends go in and out every couple of months. Invest in quality, classic pieces that you love and can see yourself wearing for the next few years. Your future self will thank you for the extra dough – and the lack of regretfully outdated photos.
Rules can be broken
Rules have their place, but sometimes they need to be broken to experience something truly worthwhile.
Life is too short
Grandparents will often tell you that life happens in the blink of an eye. The conflicts and stressors they spent years worrying over no longer matter. We may find ourselves measuring success with big accomplishments and gestures, but in the end, it’s the little things that make the biggest impact on our lives.
Relax often and enjoy the moment. Allow yourself to be unapologetically grateful for what you have with no “ifs,” “ands,” or “buts.” Spend lots of time with family and follow your passions.
To all the grandparents out there: Thank you for giving the best advice, sweet holiday cards, positive values, homecooked meals, enthusiastic support, sense of humor, and unconditional love. You motivate us to do better and be better, and for that, we are forever grateful.

How did our grandparents live?
With a request to share stories from family archives, the Rech newspaper turned to the subscribers of its page on the VKontakte social network on the eve of March 8. Today in the heading “Grandma and Grandpa Side by Side!” we publish the first of the stories told by our readers.
This story was sent by “Speeches” Alexander Mitrokhin and his mother Evgenia Sergeevna. The heroine of the story is Alexander’s grandmother, Vera Sergeevna Lozhkova. Almost all her life she lived in the Ustyuzhensky district, in the village named after. Zhelyabov. Now he lives in Cherepovets. nine0003
About childhood
My grandmother Lozhkova Vera Sergeevna was born on August 31, 1930 near Leningrad. She lived almost all her life in the Ustyuzhensky district of the Vologda region, in the village named after V. Zhelyabov, and now lives almost constantly in Cherepovets with her daughter and my mother. I visit them very often and love to listen to my grandmother’s stories. And over such a long life, she has accumulated a lot of them. This is what my grandmother tells about her life.
– I was born in the village of Novaya Saratovka near Leningrad at 1930 years. My parents, mother Pavlina and father Sergey, are both from the Ustyuzhensky district, from the village of Shuklino. They went to Leningrad to work. There I went to kindergarten, cried all the time and yearned for my mother. Everyone was sitting under the door, and whoever came in – hit me on the forehead with the door. I was often sick, stunted. Everyone thought that I would die soon. Even the teachers, when my mother brought me, were surprised – “Is Verushka still alive?” The doctor recommended that I move to the countryside. And so they did, I began to live with my grandmother Martha in the village of Shuklino, Ustyuzhensky district. And the parents stayed in Leningrad. nine0003
About the kindergarten
— We had a collective farm kindergarten for children under 7 years old in the village, for the summer, when there is a lot of work in the fields. The garden was located in an old manor house. There was a linden alley nearby, where they played ball, and the girls jumped. In the morning we went to the river to swim. They fed us porridge, sweets and the most delicious yellow and crumbly crackers. I have never eaten such delicious food. There was an apiary nearby, and when honey was removed, they always gave us a whole dish, eat as much as you want. And don’t eat too much honey. nine0003
About school
— We were given briefcases with pencil cases and pencils for school in kindergarten. I went to school with my girlfriend to the neighboring village of Osnopolye, across the river. The school was seven years old. They studied until the 7th grade. She studied well at school, loved literature, memorized poems well. They also studied Russian, German and mathematics. But mathematics did not go well, did not understand it at all. My mother attached a multiplication table to my wall, teach me, she says. So everything in the morning and repeated “twice two – four, twice three – five” (laughs). There was a garden and a vegetable garden at school. We were taught to take care of the beds. The teacher showed how to weed. And in winter, when the frosts are severe, a red flag was hung at the school – which means there will be no lessons. You will only go outside the village, you will see a red flag, you will be delighted, you will run home. nine0003
Since there was still no electricity in the village, sometimes in the morning it was completely dark. Somehow, my friend and I went to school in the morning in the winter. The road passed next to a clearing fenced with a spruce forest. We went there to warm up and decided to go ice skating. My friend took a ride, and when I went, the ice broke. I fell into the icy water, my legs began to drag under the ice. My friend pulled me by the hand. Wet and cold to the waist, I was afraid to return home. Mom would scold or even beat her. We went to school. The teacher immediately sent me to the dining room, where there was a large Russian stove. It was on this stove that I then sat all day, by the end of the lessons my things were dry, and my girlfriend and I went home. Mom was never told. nine0003
About the war
— When the war started, I was 10 years old. Since there was no radio in the village, everyone found out only when they went to the market in Ustyuzhna on Sunday. Everyone there already knew, many cried. Some people have already started to be evacuated to us. Father and mother were still living in Leningrad at that time. My father was immediately called to the front: he mounted a horse and left. Mom stayed to work in Leningrad, she couldn’t come to us, they didn’t let her out. Only later, shortly before the start of the blockade, my uncle Kuzma wrote a letter that she had a little daughter in the care of her old grandmother, and mother was released to us. But throughout the war, I almost didn’t see my mother: either she was sent to fell wood in Babayevo, or to dig trenches. nine0003
In the village of Zhelyabovo, a sawmill made skis for the army. Grandma Martha and I worked on collective farm fields, like other villagers. All the good horses from the village were taken to the front, leaving quite old and thin. They gave me a horse so funny, small, short, they called Coccyx. To sit on him, he did not like. Until he pushes himself off, he will shake his head. The girls will sit on their own and they are gone. And I led mine by the reins. As soon as we get to the place, everyone has already worked out (laughs). nine0003
It’s very hot to work during the day, and the horseflies really tormented the horses. We decided that the children needed to plow and harrow on horseback at night. But children are children, let’s work and fall asleep right in the field. We’ll tie the horses. We were given workdays for work, for each workday we were entitled to 200-300 grams of grain per day. My grandmother and I were given one workday for two. We row and row hay, we try, but the workday is for two. There was not enough food. Mom, what things she brought with her from Leningrad, sold everything at the market, bought food. nine0003
Once, when we were working in the field, a German plane with crosses flew low over us. My grandmother shouted to me: “Lie down, Veruha!”. So we both fell to the ground. I look at the German, and he opened his mouth – he laughs, intimidates us. This is the only time we saw Germans during the war.
We also had such a case in the village. In the morning, at dusk, a neighbor went to the well for water. I lowered the bucket, but it does not lower. Came back later when it was light. She looked into the well, and there the wolf was sitting, his eyes sparkling at her. As they later realized, he was chasing a cat. She jumped into the well, he followed her. The cat drowned, but the wolf sits alive. How to pull it out? There are no peasants in the village, everyone is at war. The hunter was called. He shot the wolf, then they pulled him out. The well, of course, had to be boarded up and a new one put in. nine0003
When the war ended, I was almost 15 years old. My father returned alive in 1946, was wounded several times, was in the hospital, then returned to the front. At the end of the war, he reached Germany. He sent me a present from Germany: a beautiful blue woolen blouse (thin knitting) and a silk dress, but he didn’t send shoes. Also a roll of paper. We were glad, because at school we didn’t have paper. But not all relatives returned from the war: some died, some went missing. Uncle Kuzma, my mother’s brother, lost his leg in the war. nine0003
Many captured Germans were driven to Ustyuzhna, they worked there, built a bridge. We went to see the Germans, and they showed us cards – “mother” or “girl”, they also missed their relatives. And then there were few of them left, everyone almost died from work.
About agricultural college
— When my father returned from the front, he and my mother decided to send me to study at the agricultural college in Ustyuzhna as an agronomist for three years. I was settled in a dormitory in a passage room: everyone went up the stairs and passed through my room. I told my mother, and she agreed with my aunt, who lived in Ustyuzhna across the Mologa River, and she let me live with her, and then also my friend Valka. I studied well, went to practice at the collective farm. They gave the horse to carry manure from the collective farm yard to the fields. I remember the director went around taking pictures of everyone. He came up to me, I quit my job, got up, drew myself up, and he said: “Why did you get up? I’m not photographing you, but your work. ” In practice, they also taught how to harness a horse. nine0003
About work
— After graduation, I was sent to work on a collective farm near Cherepovets, in Yerga. There I worked as an agronomist for three years, checking seeds, a seeder, what was being done in the fields, giving lectures and answering questions from collective farmers.
Then there was a downsizing. They asked me: “Do you want to go home?” And they fired me. I returned to my homeland. I had to get a job as a waitress in a canteen, then they temporarily put me at the cash register. And I didn’t even know how to count on the accounts. And I was deceived, accused of embezzlement. As they understood later, all debts and shortfalls were written down on me, all glasses and stacks. I never brought a single candy from the buffet, and they accused me of embezzlement. Mom had to sell the cow to get everything back. nine0003
Then they found out that I worked as an agronomist, and they sent me to work in my specialty at a collective farm in Ponizovye. And then she got a job at a timber processing plant in the village named after. Zhelyabov. So there she worked until her retirement in a lumberyard, stacking boards in high piles. Sometimes up to a three-story building high. How they got there, and now I am surprised, and even with boards on my shoulder. Then she became a foreman.
About family
— I met my husband Sasha in Leningrad when I went on vacation. His sister Zoya introduced us. It turned out that he was from our area, from the neighboring village of Selishche. We studied at the same school. And in Leningrad he worked as a tinsmith. We got married, and he moved to Zhelyabovo with me. I got a job in Zhelyabovo as a tinsmith, then as an accountant. At first, we were given rooms in apartments, and only when we already had two children, a son and a daughter, and the elder Borya went to first grade, we were given a two-room apartment in a new 12-apartment building, where we then lived for more than 40 years. nine0003
One day I went to the city to the market. The road went through the forest. A thunderstorm was starting, I hid under a tree in the forest. And then across the road right in front of me, a fireball the size of a children’s ball fell from the sky. It was ball lightning. The pine tree she fell into shattered into splinters. And I have children at home, I can’t die. I forgot about the market and ran home.
At the age of 55 I retired, I was awarded the medal “Veteran of Labour”. And I began to nurse two granddaughters. The eldest was brought to me when she was not even a year old. And so they came to me every summer for all three months. And then the great-grandchildren began to come. nine0003

Our grandparents – Speech
“My caring and wise grandmother”
Tatyana Peskova is talking about her grandmother today. She responded to Rech’s request to share stories from family annals, which we published on VKontakte in early March. Each such story is special, because it is about a loved one.
I wanted to share my memories of a loved one – my grandmother Tatiana Aleksandrovna Yudicheva. I will be glad if this story finds a response in the hearts of people. nine0003
Grandmother. A very warm word. It contains care, wisdom and kindness. This is a special world associated with childhood, a village, a house that smells of pies. My grandmother Tatyana Aleksandrovna Yudicheva lived a very rich life, leaving us at the age of 92. If it were possible to slow down the passage of time, then this year on May 14 we would celebrate its glorious centenary.
From a young age, my grandmother worked because she grew up in a village, in a peasant family. I managed everywhere – both in the garden and around the house. The time was difficult, but she never became limp from adversity and failure, she knew how to take a hit. She survived a difficult and terrible war, having lost her brother, who was recognized as missing. nine0003
After completing the course, she worked as a secretary at the fishing state farm of the Belozersky district, worked in the village council. The young active girl was noticed and recommended as a member of the CPSU. Tatyana Aleksandrovna was repeatedly awarded diplomas for excellent performance, and once she was even rewarded with a cut on her dress.
Naturally inquisitive, my grandmother tried to get to the bottom of everything, she loved to read. Doesn’t a person who bends over a book after a hard day, scooping up treasures of knowledge, deserve respect? By the way, the habit of reading remained with her until her old age. nine0003
In 1951, on the direction of the party authorities, Tatyana Alexandrovna came with her husband and three children to Cherepovets to build a metallurgical plant.
My grandmother did not have a construction profession, so she went to work as an apprentice in a team of painters and perfectly mastered this specialty. And soon she was entrusted with the Komsomol youth brigade.
Here is how R.A. wrote about it. Grishina (“Work equal to a feat”. Editor-compiler V.M. Malkov. North-Western book publishing house. 1974): “Tatyana Alexandrovna remembers that time with warmth.
“It was difficult, but interesting,” she says. — At first, not everything went smoothly. They broke down on the quality of work. And then things got better. Made friends with girls. They recognized me, and I recognized them… I had little skill and experience. But how much energy, enthusiasm and desire to work in construction!
Years passed. Team T.A. Yudicheva was among the foremost. High labor productivity, good quality of work, strong friendship have become the norm in the life of the team. Many people worked and studied. And the brigadier, passing on her professional and life experience, did not stop reminding:
– Dear girls, study. You need to know your specialty in all its subtleties, to perfection. Soon you will come to replace us, you will teach the young yourself . .. ”
Tatyana Alexandrovna was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor for her excellent work.
There was another interesting stage in my grandmother’s life – her acquaintance with the sculptor, member of the Union of Artists of the USSR Tekusa Pavlovna Kontareva, who immortalized her memory in sculpture. I would like to quote from the article “95 years since the birth of Tekusa Pavlovna Kontareva”, posted on the website “Local History. History of Cherepovets”: “The image of the foreman of painters T.A. Yudicheva in the interpretation of Tekusa Pavlovna is a hymn to a working woman who bore the hardships of war and post-war construction on her shoulders. nine0003
A great worker, at the same time she was for us, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a real grandmother in the full sense of the word. She knitted beautifully, baked pancakes and pies. And how we all loved her juicy! It was a masterpiece of culinary art! The thinnest dough with various fillings: cottage cheese, cabbage, blueberries. Real jam! The aroma is amazing! Never in my life have I eaten such delicious food. A picture appears before my eyes. We are in a village house, in the middle of which there is already a laid table. A pot-bellied samovar puffs. It smells divine of fresh baked goods. The ruddy and contented faces of my nieces and daughters, pissing on both cheeks, one after the other, horns and juicy. It seems that it won’t fit anymore, but the hand itself reaches again for the plate. nine0003
“She didn’t know her father”
Another letter to the Rech newspaper project “Grandma and Grandpa Side by Side” was sent to us by Lyubov Kapitonova-Balbukova. And we are pleased to post a story about a grandmother, in whose fate there were many secrets, including those related to the name of the heroine.
The photographs show my grandmother Elza Vilgelmovna Balbukova, nee Krieger. She was born on January 2, 1939. She did not know her father, and there is no information about him. Moreover, my grandmother carefully concealed her German origin all her life, she was ashamed of it. My brother and I, her grandchildren, knew her for a very long time as Elsa Vasilievna. And even when I’m already at 90th accidentally stumbled upon her documents, she was very frightened and asked me not to share the information received with anyone. She practically does not remember her mother, it is only known that she was Russian, she died of starvation. Grandmother Elsa at the age of two was brought from the Odessa region to Totma and assigned to an orphanage in the village of Churilovka. She always said that her birthday was not in winter, but in spring (the date of birth was entered, apparently, approximately already in the boarding school, and on January 2, according to her grandmother, several more pupils were “born”). In the orphanage, my grandmother graduated from the seventh grade, then she left for Murmansk, where she met her future husband Viktor Nikolaevich Balbukov, who served in Novaya Zemlya. Their first son was also born there. At 19In 1959, they came together to the construction site in Cherepovets, following a Komsomol call, and the second son appeared here, and then three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Grandma worked at the DOK for 10 years, then until her retirement at a shoe factory. Now she is 80 years old, she lives alone in the city (grandfather died in 2002), she leaves for the village of Siuch for the summer.
“My grandmother Galina Evfits”
Ivan Evfits talks about his relatives
It often happens: a large family will gather at the table, several generations at once, and memories will begin. And the most precious and valuable are the memories of our grandparents. Today we offer you a story about Galina Evfits. She is a grandmother. nine0003
Galina Pavlovna Evfits (Sbornova) was born on October 10, 1946 in the village of Pirenga, Kandalaksha district, Murmansk region. After graduating from school in the village of Nivsky, she entered the Murmansk Pedagogical Institute at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. She graduated in 1968 with a degree in high school mathematics. In the same year, she married a student of this institute, Grigory Terentyevich Evfits.
Galina’s parents moved to their homeland, the Vologda region. The children also followed them. From 19For 70 years, Galina Pavlovna worked as a mathematics teacher at schools No. 23 and 34 in Cherepovets.
After retirement, together with her husband, they left for the village of Shipitsyno, Sizemsky settlement, and settled there for a long time.
Galina Pavlovna and Grigory Terentyevich published two collections of poems, write about what excites them, write wishes to relatives, friends, many poems about village life, about the Sizemsky region.
“My grandfather Grigory Yevfits”
It’s wonderful when Russian life is not forgotten, the Russian village, when nature inspires creativity, helps to be active and active, not feeling the years that fly so fast. An example of this is the hero of our project Grigory Evfits. nine0003
Grigory Terentyevich Evfits was born on February 22, 1941 in the Koropsky district of the Chernihiv region. In 1955 he graduated from the Rybotinsky seven-year school, and then the Koropsky secondary school. Having not yet decided on the choice of profession, the young guy went to work in the field team as an accountant. Here he worked for two years, after which the military duty to the Motherland called Grigory Terentyevich to serve in the army.
Service in the ranks of the Soviet army did not become a difficult test for a young soldier: brought up in the spirit of patriotism from childhood, physically hardened, Grigory coped well with the difficulties of army life. Three years of service in the submarine squadron of the Northern Fleet flew by unnoticed. nine0003
The north detained the guy in earnest. After the service, Grigory Terentyevich remained to work as a sailor on the Murmansk trawl fleet, and a year later, having realized and determined the direction in life, he entered the Murmansk Pedagogical Institute at the Faculty of History and Philology. Combining study and work, Grigory Terentyevich got married, after which he moved to Cherepovets with his wife Galina Pavlovna.
A new, creative, pedagogical life began in Cherepovets. A teacher of history, social science and technical labor at city schools No. 23 and 31, a master of industrial training at vocational school No. 6 – this is his path, the path of teacher Grigory Terentyevich Evfits. nine0003
In 1995, having worked out a preferential retirement pension, without losing energy and diligence, Grigory Terentyevich, having worked at a match factory as a veneer cutter, moved to his wife’s homeland, as he says, in “Shipitsyn exile”.
It would seem that a former supporter of the teachings of Marxism-Leninism, a secretary of the party organization with 30 years of experience as a party member – and an abandoned, forgotten by everyone small deaf village … What is it? Fun or Purpose? I think it’s neither. The creative person just wanted to communicate with nature, feel the freshness of the morning dew, listen to the whistling of forest birds, and enjoy the beauty of the Russian village.
Childcare options | Life as a parent, Work and childcare articles & support
This article outlines your options for choosing your preferred form of childcare and highlights a few things to consider when making your choice.
Within the UK there are a number of childcare options. Here we discuss the different options to help you make a decision on your childcare search that perfectly suits you and your family.
Childcare options
Childminders
Registered with Ofsted (in England), the Care Inspectorate (in Scotland) and Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW). Childminders are self-employed and usually take care of children within their own home
Children’s centres
Children’s centres began as a major part of the ‘Sure Start’ programme targeting child poverty. Now under local authority control, children’s centres aim to be a ‘one-stop-shop’ for families and will have facilities to support early education, childcare, health, family support and help into employment (for parents and carers). Childcare facilities vary between centres – while some may offer nursery facilities, many don’t.
Day nurseries
Day nurseries offer care for children from birth to four or five years old. The number of children attending may vary from nursery to nursery. There are different types of nurseries including private, community, local authority and workplace nurseries.
Pre-school playgroups
Less formal than nurseries, these groups operate for a few hours each day only and do not provide full-time care. They tend to be run by private individuals or charities. Parents may be asked to volunteer their support for certain periods.
Crèches
Crèches will provide ‘occasional care’ for children and are provided on particular premises. Parents will use them on an irregular basis i.e. when they go to the gym or if they’re shopping.
Nannies
A nanny is someone who is typically paid to look after a child (or children) in the home of the child. They can either live-in or live-out, depending on their arrangement with the family.
Au pair
These are generally students from outside the UK, who are here to study and improve their English. They must also be provided with a bedroom, meals and pocket money.
Informal childcare
A family member, often a grandparent, may agree to take on some of the childcare. Frequently this is part-time, for example one to two days per week, or after the hours of formal childcare.
Questions to consider
While trying to decide which method of childcare would be most suitable for your family – you may want to ask yourself a number of questions beforehand and these include:
Would you rather the childcare take place in your own home or outside it?
If outside it, how far are you able to travel each morning?
Would it be easier to arrange the childcare nearer to home or work?
If you are delayed at work, do you have a back-up plan in place?
What would happen if you are ill? If the child is ill? If a childminder is ill?
What happens during your own or a childminder’s holidays?
If there was an emergency would you be able to get to your child quickly?
Will your chosen method of childcare qualify for financial help with childcare costs: working tax credit or childcare vouchers?
If you ask a family member to help out, will they have to reduce their working hours to fit in with yours? Although this may initially look like a ‘cheaper’ option, you will not be given any financial assistance and may be expected to pay for necessary equipment e. g. car seats, stair gates etc. Will they provide care in your home or theirs? You will need to think about illness and holidays too.
Is there a clear fee structure? Will this include meals, snacks, nappies and days out?
Do they have a notice period if you wish to change childcare?
In addition, depending on the childcare you choose, it’s worth considering:
How is discipline enforced? How is positive behaviour reinforced? How is negative behaviour discouraged?
Does the carer have extensive experience of working with babies or children of a similar age to your child?
How qualified are the staff?
What is the staff turnover?
What is the ratio of carer to children? For children aged two years and under, it should be no less than one adult to three children.
Has your carer completed a course in baby first aid?
How frequently are environmental risks assessed?
What are the sleeping arrangements and how are they monitored?
How will you be kept informed on your baby’s progress?
If/when a childminder takes the children outside for a walk, to the park, etc, how does she/he ensure safety of them all?
A big factor in deciding on childcare will, of course, also be costs. Why not use the cost of childcare calculator here to estimate how much you might spend on different options?
Holidays and sick days
It would also be helpful to think about holidays and whether your choice of childcare is available all year round.
Is your childcare flexible? Do you need it to be?
Will your child be taken care of if your working day overruns?
Will you be penalised if you take your child out to go on holiday?
Will the chosen method of childcare be offered all year round?
Would you be expected to co-ordinate your holidays with your childminder?
If your baby is sick, what arrangements do you have in place?
If the childminder is sick what will happen?
Choosing the right childcare for you and your children will need some time and attention. It’s definitely worth thinking through all of your options to make sure you make the best choice for your family.

Developmental classes with a newborn up to 1 month old
How to conduct developing lessons with a newborn baby up to 1 month old? During this brief period, your baby is trying to adjust to life outside of the mother’s body. While he is not yet able to move independently, eat, but he can cry and smile about his feelings. Crying indicates discomfort or pain, and a smile usually appears after feeding or during sleep and means that the baby is calm. nine0005
Newborns differ from each other in terms of their level of physical activity. Some children are inactive and passive when lying on their back. Very active babies can reflexively roll over from their stomach to their back.
Different in babies and the level of muscle tone. Some children are more relaxed: they have weak muscle tone in the arms and legs. Other newborns are more tense: their arms are tightly pressed to the body, their knees are constantly bent, and their fingers are tightly clenched into fists.
The newborn is mostly asleep, periods of wakefulness are rare and short-lived. Therefore, use the time of feeding, bathing, dressing and rest for the development of the baby. nine0005
While feeding, touch your baby, stroke his head, shoulders, arms, talk to him affectionately. These touches soothe the child.
While bathing, talk gently to your baby, lightly stroke his body with your hand or a piece of soft cloth. After bathing, while the child is in a good mood, gently massage his shoulders, arms, legs, back, stomach.
When dressing or undressing the baby, changing diapers, gently touch the fingers on the arms and legs. nine0014
Take the child in your arms, gently rocking him, change the position of the body. Do not leave the baby in the same position when he lies on the bed: lay him not only on his back, but also on his side. This is very useful for the child: he will learn to move his arms and legs.
Change your tone, smile and laugh when you look at your baby. In the near future, he will help him understand your emotions and express joy.
Stimulate the development of the organs of vision. Pass a glowing toy or flashlight with a red or yellow light from side to side in front of the child. nine0014
Hang some sounding toys above the crib: a bell or a rattle would be great.

Early child care in Beaverton, Hillsboro, Aloha
Early Child Care in Classrooms in Hillsboro, Aloha and Beaverton
Whether your child goes to Hillsboro’s Tuality, Beaverton’s Turquoise or Aloha’s Baseline Learning Tree, our preschool classrooms each focus on developing his or her age group’s skills. In a bright, clean environment, they comfortably learn and play on safe, child-sized furniture and equipment.
Our teachers are highly qualified, certified in CPR and first aid, and trained on the Oregon Child Care Basics (OCCB) and other programs.
Infant Program
Our Infant Program welcomes infants from 6 weeks to 1½ years old.
At this early age, we introduce colors, shapes, letters and numbers. We also provide stimulation through sensory activities such as coloring, finger painting, ball play, musical instruction and block play. We teach simple sign language too. All the while, we encourage group interaction through stories, art projects, finger play, musical movement and other activities.
Toddler Program
Our Toddler Program welcomes toddlers from 1½ to 2½ years old.
In this program, we work on letter, number, shape and animal recognition using group games and songs. We also encourage creativity using art projects. We introduce Spanish language too. All the while, we teach your child independence through cleaning up after him or herself and helping other children.
Preschool Program
Our Preschool Program welcomes children from 2½ to 4½ years old.
In this program, we introduce our academic program. We do themed worksheets in the morning and Spanish activities in the afternoon. We also continue group activities such as songs, sharing, games and stories. We do hands-art projects daily too.
In our home living area, we invite the children to play make-believe and dress up. We also nurture large motor skills outdoors and through other movement.
Pre-kindergarten Program
Our Pre-kindergarten Program educates children from 4 to 5 years old.
In this program, we prepare your child for kindergarten. We work on writing skills, patterning, cutting, beginning math with manipulatives and Spanish. We also do creative, fun art projects. We introduce computer play too. To teach responsibility, we assign daily jobs. And to encourage participation, we do group activities.
Private Kindergarten Program
In this program, we introduce structured academics. We do math, reading and writing, science, Spanish, art literacy and afternoon art projects. At the start of the school year, we hand out letter books that teach phonics, writing, reading and listening skills. At the beginning of each day, we ask everyone to do their daily job, talk about the calendar and weather, and play “zero the hero,” which is our countdown to 100 days left of school. We also take field trips to a pumpkin patch, a bowling alley, nature trails, plays, gymnastic centers, art studios and many other destinations.
After-school Program
In this program, we promote social interaction in themed areas for play and group activities. Play areas include our building, science, computer, home living, board game and table toy areas, listening center and library. Group activities include practicing Spanish, reading books and playing games. We also dedicate quiet time to homework and plan an art project daily.
When public schools are closed, we welcome your child to join us for special activities and field trips.

A train to Moscow, an aeroexpress train to Sheremetyevo, a flight to New York, a transfer, a flight to Portland… It took me a little more than a day to feel like a Russian tourist on the opposite side of the globe! nine0002 Oregon as it is
Oregon is located on the northwest coast of North America. The city of Portland, where we rested, is not even a city, but rather an agglomeration. The population of the city exceeds half a million people, and together with the inhabitants of the surrounding area, the figure exceeds two million. Portland is not only a great economic center, but, as you might guess from the name, a major port. There is also a railway junction and an airport. The city’s largest employer is the well-known chipmaker Intel and the head office of Nike. The Eastbank Esplanade, a recreational area built on the banks of the Willamette River on the site of former industrial zones, has become widely known. In addition, Portland is famous for its parks. On the territory of one of them, Mt. Tabor Park, is an extinct volcano. Also in the city is the smallest park in the world – Mill Ends Park, its area is only 0.3 square meters. nine0004
The maritime climate, characterized by warm and dry summers and rainy but mild winters without severe frosts, is ideal for growing roses. It is not in vain that the second name stuck to the city – the “city of roses”. In addition to numerous flower gardens, there is even an International Rose Research Park. The Russian sister city of Portland is Khabarovsk.
Previously, you could get to Oregon through China, which is much closer in terms of mileage. But recently the demand for tickets has dropped completely, and the flight has been cancelled. Now you need to fly in the opposite direction – through Norway, with a change in New York. It was possible to look at one of the main cities of America only from the porthole and through the windows of the airport – there is very little time for a transfer. The almost fifteen-hour flight was not easy, so I set foot on American soil without proper trepidation. We lived in a suburb of Portland, in the city of Beaverton. Less than an hour by car – this is not even considered a distance in America. nine0004
Beaverton – Local Santa Barbara. The cost of houses here starts from half a million dollars. It doesn’t matter that almost all of them were bought on credit: Americans calculate their lives for decades ahead, not tormented by the question “would I lose my job.” Many of the fears and prejudices of Russians here bring a smile. For example, we rarely say “I’ll arrive in an hour”, you never know what … An American just looks at the navigator and reports the number that he sees there.
Portland is located between the Pacific Ocean and the desert, which is separated from them by a mountain range, which is why it has such a mild climate. To the ocean no more than an hour and a half by car. Despite the fact that it is called Quiet, it is difficult to catch good weather on the coast. More often here you can get into a light storm and heavy fog. The main attraction of the town of Ocean Side, which we visited, is a three-hundred-year-old pine tree, which was worshiped by local Indians. Only children and the most hardened adults can swim in ice water. It was not possible to calmly finish lunch on the shore: everyone was driven off the beach by a tsunami warning system, which is also not uncommon in these parts. nine0004
Mount Hoot can be reached in two hours. The road is laid almost to the top. Here is the Timberline Hotel, built without a single nail. From the observation deck you can see numerous lakes, mountains and even a desert located hundreds of kilometers away. In winter, Mount Hut turns into a popular ski resort, and in summer, the most devoted fans of this sport manage to find snow in the crevices. Of great interest is the private museum of aviation and astronautics. Here you can see the world’s largest aircraft, and the famous “stealth”, and a collection of helicopters, and a real moon rover, and an excellent selection of newspapers from around the world. Much attention is paid to the Soviet Union. At the entrance to the exposition, guests, as expected, are greeted by a huge portrait of our countryman Yuri Gagarin. nine0004
The Oregon Zoo is a park first and foremost. We passed the first line of enclosures three times without even noticing the animals! There are few cages, mostly animals live behind armored glasses. The zoo is small, but even its Moscow “colleague” can envy the variety of animals. At the same time, you can touch many animals, and especially birds, with your hands, listen to their voices in the recording and the history of the development of various breeds. But the local circus was not impressed. Either childhood is hopelessly forgotten, or the level is lower than ours. The only surprise was that at the beginning of the performance the American anthem was played, the trainer on an elephant carried the flag around the arena, and the audience stood up and froze in awe. nine0004
There are also lakes, waterfalls, skyscrapers, plantations. You can’t tell about everything! But let’s leave the sights to tourists and try to figure out how a person lives in America.
Not just clean, but American clean
Cleanliness is not evident here. I have never seen asphalt washed with shampoo. This cleanliness is not like brilliance, but like the absence of debris. Needless to say, no one will think of throwing garbage at their feet?
Garbage is sorted here. In Russia, they are just beginning to think about this. nine0004
My first impression of America was unusual. I donated bottles! Not carried in a string bag, of course. We loaded an almost full trunk: bottles are rarely handed over here, and only of a certain type. They have bar codes that the machine recognizes. Sell glass and plastic separately. They don’t give money for bottles here. The maximum that you can count on is a penny one-time discount in the store to which the machine belongs. But “do not bother” does not occur to anyone. Conscious people! nine0004
Lawns mowed, trees trimmed, flowers planted… Those who own the land do it. Moreover, if the land is state-owned, this is done by the state, and it does it conscientiously. At least there is no visible difference.
Beaverton consists mainly of private houses. True, several families can live in the house. The waste disposal system is the same here for everyone. There are four containers: for paper, substandard glass, organic waste (leaves and grass) and garbage itself. In a private house, they are most often placed in the garage, in general, near the parking lot. Approximately once a week the container is exposed to the street. For each type of waste comes a separate car. nine0004
At the same time, each owner of the house concludes a contract for the removal of household waste himself. I didn’t see any service companies. However, how to serve private houses? Gas, water, light – their own. They also clean themselves, including the territory near the house. Sometimes in large houses they hire visiting cleaners. The Americans themselves enjoy digging in the flowerbeds, planting trees, sweeping the yard. Here it is customary that housing be beautiful and well-groomed.
Separate conversation about the purity of the people themselves. They take a shower in the morning, wash here also in the evening, before going to bed. And if it’s hot or after playing sports – even more often. nine0004
In a word, purity is represented here in all its manifestations.
“Other” America
Homeless people in America are either few or not very noticeable. A few dirty and ragged beggars beg along the roads and in the city streets. If such a comrade “turns on” in the private sector, people immediately call the police. After all, the land is mostly private, and no one needs extra residents, and even more so. Even if the land is state-owned, they still try to get rid of the homeless. Firstly, walking through the forest is scary, and secondly, it can even set a fire. nine0004
Flophouses are organized for the homeless, but no one will allow them to stay there for a long time. Many homeless people work in stores for leftovers. With such not very attractive movers, they pay with spoiled and expired products (in our country, by the way, they are simply sold – to the delight of pensioners). A policeman in America is a man’s friend, without any sarcasm. If an accident occurs, he rushes to the rescue. And if your car breaks down, a passing police officer will stop and dig into the engine with you. At the same time, with his car with the “chandelier” turned on, he will protect your property from the flow of cars. True, after half an hour, he can, just like ours, hide in the bushes with a radar, and then catch up with you on a motorcycle, creating a lot of noise. But in general, the police are perceived as defenders of their own rights. After all, a jeep flying at full speed, whatever one may say, is a threat to the safety of others. nine0004
It’s better not to poke your nose into poor neighborhoods, even by car. I didn’t even try.
On the plantations they work in … an armchair
It is generally accepted that agriculture in America is poorly developed. No matter how!
There are many private breweries and distilleries in Oregon. Oregon beer is famous even outside the country. They also catch fish and crabs, so the American crab sticks are real and not flavored fish.
Almost everything is automated on farms. Illegal Mexicans work the old fashioned way, with their hands. Local residents do not go to work on farms, except to manage them. There are sprinklers on the fields, all the rows are even, so that it is convenient to drive on the navigator. A tractor is driving, making holes, on both sides in armchairs (!) Workers are sitting and throwing seedlings.
Buyers come by themselves, collect purchases in buckets. What you pluck is yours. True, sometimes the goods are eaten in the fields, especially by children. It happens that the torn is left to rot, but this is inherent in commercial risks. Old trees are being torn down ruthlessly. If the plantation is attacked by a disease, all plantings are destroyed. nine0004
Closer to the ocean, where there is no sun, sheep and cows are raised. Nothing grows there but grass. Outdoor farms have electric fences and automated drinkers.
My park is near my house
Americans prefer to live in private houses. The classic American dream is to own a home, a stable job, and healthy children. There is no concept of nationality as such. If you have citizenship, then you are an American. It doesn’t matter what kind of eyes and skin color. Here they do not search for the meaning of life – they just live here! nine0004
In Oregon, houses are built more often of wood, mostly according to standard designs. Even in terms of color, the choice is small. If you already live among people, be kind, choose from the “allowed” colors.
Americans either don’t have gardens at all, or they are far away. In the backyard there can be a summer table, a barbecue, flowers and trees grow, but nothing more. There are a lot of mast fir trees in Oregon, houses are built between them. There are houses in which the tree trunk generally runs in the middle. This is not even building a house, but building a Christmas tree. And the tree was saved, and the neighbors were admired. Solid pluses! nine0004
Houses for several families – about the same as for one. But the apartments are completely different. Those that are cheaper are not only small in size. They also have very low ceilings, which you can reach with your hand without standing on your toes.
If you read that an apartment in America is one-room, it means that it has only one bedroom. The living room (in our opinion – the hall) is not considered a room here. You can rent a separate house for $500 a month. More expensive – you can, cheaper – already suspicious. For those who decide to buy an apartment in Oregon, it will cost even less than a similar one in Smolensk. However, housing prices have been on the rise lately as Oregon is a popular state with a great climate. Many move here from neighboring California, where living has become too expensive. At the same time, in Detroit, for example, houses are sold literally for a penny. It is a dying city where it is virtually impossible to find a job. nine0004
Despite the recent crisis, housing in America is still easy to get on credit. The mortgage rate is only three or four percent per annum. For thirty years, you can, without particularly straining, give a half-million loan, paying only two to three thousand dollars a month. The crisis led to the fact that interest rates on loans fell even lower. Now many are doing refinancing. This allows you to pay off debt faster. True, they will have to pay more per month, but the loan can be repaid not in 30 years, but twice as fast. nine0004
In large private houses where one family lives, there are usually several sectors: separately for the owners, children and guests. Each sector has its own shower or bathroom. There is also a living room and a catering unit, which in turn is divided into the actual kitchen and dining room. Moreover, the division can be conditional: extra walls are not in honor here.
Many shops for gardeners, they have everything your heart desires. If you skillfully use discounts and coupons, everything can be bought very inexpensively. And everyone here loves to dig in the ground, regardless of age and position in society. Houses are literally buried in flowers. nine0004
The second part of the “travel notes” will be published in the next issues of SG. You will learn how you can live quite decently in the USA without spending a cent, why there is a completely different car fashion overseas, how not to become an obese American bumpkin from anecdotes why Americans are more careful than we are in choosing a profession, and also about many other things.

Oregon Transportation Plan Quiz
TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE!
We are starting the next step in the process and we look forward to having you join us in planning the future of transport by thinking about priorities: for example, by examining the impact of possible financing options and their implications for transport connectivity. Take this short quiz to find out how much you know about transportation planning! nine0004
Question 1 The Oregon Transportation Plan guides investment by offering…
False.
The Oregon Transportation Plan represents the concept of all modes of transportation for people and goods, including walking, cycling, mass transit, highways, railroads, trucking, and even airplanes. From major bridge improvements to local sidewalk projects, the updated Oregon Transportation Plan will guide transportation investment for the entire state for the next 25 years. nine0004
Question 2 Concessions and compromises are a natural part of transport investment decisions because…
False.
The hard truth is that future transportation planning will require compromises and concessions. Funding is limited and we need to prioritize, balance investments and consider sustainable funding options to cover needs across the state. nine0004
Many of the state’s key transportation facilities, such as tunnels and bridges, are between 50 and 80 years old and increasingly unsafe and inoperable. In some areas of the state, traffic on the roads is difficult, which negatively affects the ability to deliver goods and goods. In addition to repairs and traffic congestion, people in many parts of the state are unable to reach their destination by bike, on foot or rollerblading due to a lack of sidewalks and bike lanes. To solve all these problems, investments in a multifunctional system are needed, but there is not enough funding to fully cover all these needs. nine0004
This update to the Oregon Transportation Plan provides an opportunity to prioritize statewide transportation funding and policies. Consistent state and local action will be required to implement the policies outlined in the plan and create a better transportation future.
Question 3 Transport funding is limited because…
False.
Today, much of Oregon’s funding for road maintenance and improvement projects comes from the fuel tax, the weight mile tax, and vehicle registration. These funding sources are not sustainable as they rely heavily on fuel sales, which have been declining for more than a decade and will decline even more as vehicles become more efficient. At the same time, the cost of doing business has risen significantly, and the share of fees that people pay has barely changed. Expenses quickly outstrip income. It is important to find alternative sources of funding, which may include toll collection and pay-per-mileage programs. nine0004
Question 4 How much do Oregon drivers pay per gallon of gas into the transit system per year compared to our neighbors in WA, CA, ID?
False.
Oregon drivers pay approximately $0.62 per gallon to Oregon’s transit system, compared to $1.77 in Washington, $1.71 in California, and $0.87 in Idaho. In Oregon, with the exception of income tax, all motorist taxes and fees go to the roads. Some neighboring states use driver revenue to support non-highway/transport programs. nine0004
Question 5 Modern transport planning is different from what it was 20 years ago because…
False.
All of the above and more make transport planning different today than it was 20 years ago. Key trends that are changing the way we travel include:
Oregon’s population has grown by more than 20% since 2000 and we expect it to continue to grow.
nine0155 Congestion factors in urban and rural areas, including increased demand for goods and increased tourism.
Technologies that are changing the way people and goods move.
Impacts of climate change on communities and natural resources.

We are reviewing these changes as part of an update to the Oregon Transportation Plan to ensure the stability of the policy to meet the changing future of Oregon and deliver the results Oregonians want.
Question 6 Why is transport planning important?
False.
One of the reasons the Oregon Transportation Plan is important is that transportation is connected to so many other aspects of life. Access to safe, reliable and convenient transportation also affects access to work, education, healthcare, childcare, food, housing, leisure activities and more. Because the transport system is so connected, it has a major impact on social equity, economic health and our ability to recover from natural disasters, and has a huge impact on climate change. Today, about 40% of all greenhouse gas emissions in Oregon come from transportation. nine0004
At the individual level, transportation is about movement – this is something that concerns each of us. Almost everyone can remember an important transportation experience in their life, whether it was the first ride on a bike, meeting someone on a bus, or seeing the world from an airplane window.
In short, transportation plays a big role in shaping our lives, and this plan shapes transportation.
