Detective fiction Social fiction Foreign fantasy Mystery mystical mysteries surrealism mysterious events 90Ol000 a desert town where the hot sun shines, the wondrous moon shines and mysterious lights rush overhead when we all pretend to be asleep. Welcome to Night Vale “Welcome to Night Vale” is a podcast featuring news releases where radio host Cecil talks about life in a lost US desert town with a long and complicated history. But this is an unusual city (although may very well be that it looks like your city even more than you would like ), and something strange is constantly happening in it: there is an old woman who is visited by angels, a cloud that subjugates the inhabitants of the town , there is a tree waitress and many other seemingly absurd things. The podcast was released in 2013 and immediately won a large army of fans and for a long time ranked second in iTunes. Well, now the creators of the podcast, Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, have decided to write a full-fledged novel based on the cast. One day a stranger in a light-colored jacket and a buckskin suitcase appears in Night Vale, and at first glance it seems that there is nothing strange in him, but no one can remember this person, immediately those around forget his features and name. The only thing the stranger manages to do is to leave a piece of paper with the inscription “King City”, and this piece of paper is not so easy to get rid of. Two residents of Night Vale – Jackie and Diana will have to deal with all this. Chapters in the novel alternate from the point of view of two heroines, but there are also broadcasts of Cecil himself, where he talks about the events taking place in the city. I paid attention to this book for three reasons: Firstly, I confess, I was attracted by the bright cover. Before I started reading, I came across such an opinion that the book is to some extent pointless to read if you have never heard the podcasts themselves and are at least a little unfamiliar with this story. Therefore, before reading, I listened to a couple of podcasts in order to be in the subject. The only good thing about this approach to the book is that you already start to have a rough idea of what to expect from the story, and you get used to many of the oddities of Night Vale and this style of telling the story. Well, if you start getting to know this city from a book, and not from podcasts, I think nothing bad will happen, and maybe the book will become some kind of incentive to continue getting to know the city and its inhabitants directly through podcasts. I would describe the book in just two words: strange but addictive. Honestly, at first it is very difficult to understand what is happening, and the thought that only a madman can come up with such a thing does not leave, but the story itself turned out to be interesting and therefore you are very soon drawn into the plot. The feeling that the book hypnotizes you, it does not let go until the end and you really want to know how this madness will eventually end. This is not the kind of story when from the very first pages an easy narrative awaits you and the reading itself is given without difficulty. Honestly, if you don’t know that Night Vale is a very original city, you get used to everything for a long time, while reading at some points you stumble and have to re-read them in order to understand what happened now, what the authors had in mind. The writing style is very extraordinary, not like anything else that I have read before. This is not a book that can be safely advised to everyone, since not everyone will understand it, for some it may seem like a mess. The book is very specific. But under all these strange descriptions in the book, you understand that the authors make fun of everyday life, the book certainly has a parallel with our reality. I liked the main characters of the novel, and you involuntarily feel sympathy for the rest of the characters, and the most interesting thing is that you quickly remember who is who. The story is interesting, but if I am now asked to retell the entire plot in detail, then, alas, I won’t be able to tell anything intelligible, since it’s difficult to put all this confusion on the shelves. The book and podcasts certainly deserve attention, but I won’t call it a masterpiece, it’s not a “must-read”, but it’s worth reading, just to understand if this is your city of Night Vale. But, and I will continue to listen to these podcasts, as the world created by Fink-Cranor struck me. History attracts like a magnet. May 17, 2016 LiveLib Share AffrontiRegiven Rated the book Atmospheric and strange book.
“Welcome to Night Vale” is a series of podcasts that was released in 2013 and immediately captured the attention of the public. Well, now the authors of the podcasts Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor decided to put the story into a book and wrote a novel of the same name. The book tells us about the life of the fictional city of Night Vale, lost somewhere in the desert in the Southwest of the United States. The famous radio host Cecil tells us every day about how the town lives, who inhabits it, and what unusual situations and events have happened this time in a small and strange town. The protagonists of the novel are forever nineteen-year-old Jackie Fierro – the pawnshop owner and Diana Creighton – the mother of fifteen-year-old Josh – a boy who constantly changes his form, sometimes you can meet him in human form, and sometimes in the form of some inanimate object. So it’s no surprise that Josh is constantly told: “You’ve changed so much since we last met.” And then one day a very mysterious man in a light jacket with a buckskin suitcase appears in Night Vale, whose name and appearance none of the people around him can remember. The only thing this strange stranger does is give away an equally strange piece of paper with the inscription “King City” which cannot be got rid of by any means. Here are two of our main characters – Jackie and Diana – in such an interesting and difficult situation. Throughout the book, the narrative will alternate, first from the face of Jackie, then from Diana, and somewhere in between they will also flash the voice of the most famous radio host Cecil.
To be honest, at first it is hard to read the book, it is very difficult to understand what is happening, what kind of nonsense it is and how to read it, but then you gradually get used to it, ponder the thoughts of the authors and the city, and the book no longer seems so complicated and absurd. I liked the book, it is interesting, it has good main characters who do not irritate during reading and there is an unusual city with its own cockroaches. Anyone who loves slurred, chaotic stories then welcome to Knight – Vale. May 30, 2016 LiveLib Share Sammy1987 Rated the book “Welcome to Night Vale” is based on a podcast about a fictional town in the out-of-the-South West, USA The novel is a finished work with a completely new story and reveals to the reader those parts and secrets of the city that were not included in the podcasts. There is an opinion that people who are not familiar with this series of podcasts, after reading the book, will remain at a loss, and fans of podcasts will be disappointed, because the book did not reach podcasts. I am new in this sense, I know about podcasts, but I did not listen to them, nevertheless, the mention of Stephen King on the cover piqued my curiosity. I must say right away that Stephen King and the Twilight Zone series, which was also kindly pointed out on the cover, have nothing to do with the book. And no resemblance. In my humble opinion, the book is like a mixture of Boris Vian (but much simpler and less poetic) and Jonathan Carroll (but even more absurd). In “Welcome to Night Vale” we meet Jackie Fierro, a nineteen-year-old pawnshop owner who no longer remembers how long ago she was nineteen – a few years or several centuries, and Diana Creighton – the mother of fifteen-year-old Josh, who can not decide which he is in the form of a human or some winged creature with eyelashes around his mouth, or in general a vase. In the lives of our two protagonists, in different but very mysterious ways, a mysterious gentleman in a light brown jacket appears with a buckskin suitcase in his hand and hands them a note with one word: “King City”. I don’t know anything about these podcasts, but for fans of surrealism and absurdity, the book is very good. Stacy’s sentient smoky spot works at the box office in Night Vale’s cinema, and monstrous bloodthirsty librarians lurk in the libraries… At first, you don’t move in at all, but when you drive in, you realize that it will be oh so difficult to leave Night Val now – all these freak residents cities have become something like closest friends, closing the last page I already want to open the book again, and I started listening to these sinful podcasts, especially for the same ignoramuses in English – there is a channel on YouTube with Russian subtitles – https://www. youtube.com/channel/UCDSQsALiae3vqw4Ks9e3Kkg If you haven’t bought the book yet, or are afraid to read it and still don’t know anything about Night Vale, try listening to podcasts first, the style of the book is very, very close, and the host’s voice is insanely magnetic. If you think that a person must have two arms, two legs and a head, and at home they don’t know how to think, maybe you should skip this story, while the rest – “Welcome to Night Vale!” Random Quote: There was always something about Night Vale that she had never seen before. There was a man she once passed by in the desert – he cut a cactus with scissors, as if shearing it. There was a cactus with thick hair on top. There was a day when a small fissure, always visible in the sky, suddenly opened up, and several pterodactyls flew out from there. A little later it turned out that they were pteranodons, so the panic rose in vain. April 30, 2016 LiveLib Share Quotes from Welcome to Night Valewhich ultimately leads to nothing. We will not touch on them here. Suffice it to say, this city is like so many others – with City Hall, Desert Flower Bowling Club, Arcade Complex, Moonlight All Night Diner, Ralphs Supermarket, and of course, its radio station broadcasting all the news, which we are allowed to hear. On all sides it is surrounded by endless desert. Perhaps it is very similar to your city. It may very well be that it resembles your city even more than you would like. It’s a pretty desert town where the hot sun shines, the moon shines marvelously and mysterious lights pass overhead when we all pretend to be asleep. Welcome to Night Vale. Chapter 1 Pawnshops in Night Vale work as follows. First, you need a thing to pawn. To get it, it will take a lot of time lived, years spent in life and existence, until you reach the point where you believe that you exist, that there is a material thing and the very concept of property, and that (unbelievable, like all of the above) ) these absurd beliefs are built in such a way that the end result is your possession of the thing. Great. Excellent result. Second, once you believe you own the thing, you must reach the point where you need the money more than the thing. This is the easiest step. You simply own the thing and the body with the needs – and wait. The only pawnshop in Night Vale is run by a very young lady, Jackie Fierro. The pawnshop doesn’t have a name, but if you need one, you’ll find out for yourself where it is. This knowledge will come to you suddenly, most likely when you are in the soul. You’ll pass out, surrounded by bright glowing blackness, and then find yourself on all fours under the warm water washing over you and find out where the pawnshop is. You will smell musty and soapy, and you will suddenly panic from loneliness. This will resemble most trips to the shower. Before you can offer your thing to Jackie, you will need to wash your hands, which is why there are bowls of purified water in the establishment. While you are washing your hands, you should hum something. Of course, you always need to hum when you wash your hands. This is just part of the hygiene procedure. When you have cleaned yourself properly, you will put the item on the counter and Jackie will look at it. Jackie will put her feet up on the counter. And lean back in his chair. “Eleven dollars,” she says. She always says “eleven dollars”. You will not answer. Ultimately, you don’t have to participate in this process. Basically, you don’t need to. “No, no,” she says, waving her hand. Then he will name the real price. Usually it is money. Sometimes – something else: dreams, sensations, visions. Then you die, but not for long. A price tag will be put on the thing: eleven dollars. In a pawnshop, everything goes at this price, regardless of how much you got. When you revive again, she will give you a receipt, which you can then exchange for the returned item, or look at it at any time to remember that item. Memories are free. You are now leaving this story. You have become just an example, and it might be better for you not to get into stories at all. Jackie Fierro squinted out the window at the parking lot. Nobody. She will close soon. Relatively speaking, it always either closed soon or just opened. Outside the window was a parking lot, and beyond that was the desert, and beyond the desert, the sky, mostly empty, with a few stars. From her point of view, it all seemed like an infinity, unattainable from her place behind the counter. She recently turned nineteen. She had always just turned nineteen for as long as she could remember. She was a pawnshop owner for a very long time, perhaps several centuries. In Night Vale, clocks and calendars work just fine. Time itself flows there. Each time, as a “newborn” nineteen-year-old pawnshop owner, she only left the establishment when it closed, and only to go to her apartment, where she sat with her legs on the coffee table and listened to city radio and local news on the cable network. . According to the news, the outside world was a very dangerous place. There was always some kind of global cataclysm that threatened Night Vale. Wild dogs. A sentient glowing cloud with the ability to control thoughts (although the Glowing Cloud has become less threatening since being elected to the local student council). Ancient oak doors leading to the unexplored world of the desert, where the current mayor of the city was held for many months. It seemed better to have no friends or hobbies, sit at work with your head bowed and mind your own business, and then sit at home, drinking glass of orange juice and listening to the radio, isolating yourself from everything that could disturb it. measured life. Her days passed in silence, mostly in emptiness, partly in thought. Sometimes she corrected the inventory. Sometimes she cleared the shelves. Every day she sat down and meditated. I tried to remember the day I took over running the establishment. There must have been such a day, but she did not remember anything special. She has been doing this for decades. She was very young. Both the first and the second were true. She knew college was something for nineteen year olds. She knew that unemployment in a volatile job market and living with parents were the problems of nineteen-year-olds. She was content that it did not concern her, and continued to work in a pawnshop. She understood the world and her place in it. She didn’t understand anything. The world and her place in it were nothing, and she understood that. Due to the lack of working hours in Night Vale, she relied on her own instincts to decide when to close the establishment. When this feeling came, it just came, and it was necessary to lock the doors, take them out of the frames and hide them securely. The feeling has come. She took her feet off the counter. It’s been a good day. Old Josie, who lived near the parking lot, would come by and bring in a huge amount of cheap plastic flamingos. She dragged them in a large canvas bag and dumped the figurines on the counter like a pile of change. The approach to and perception of parenting has evolved in recent years. The modern parent sees his or her role in said capacity not as yet another aspect of their lives, but rather as the central axis of life around which everything else, from work to friendships to hobbies, must be balanced. By in large, this is a positive shift, as children deserve the best effort their parents have to make, and certainly so in those early years. And when a parent is trying to be the best mother or father they can be, as a fringe benefit they are likely also being the best person they can be overall; this spills over into diet, attitude, activities, and so forth. And then you have some people who see parenthood as a crisis. Oh well. Regardless of how parenthood will affect you (or how adding a second or third or eighth child to the brood will affect the family), I think we can all agree that when a grown man gets an excuse to cut loose, it’s time to party. Baby showers are occasionally co-ed these days, but seldom are they male-centric, and logically so: the female has a physical role in the child bearing and rearing process that even the most devoted father can’t take on, so much of the paraphernalia (i.e. gifts) involved at a baby shower skews female. Related: Great Gifts for the Father Thus we have the Man Shower, AKA the Dadchelor Party, AKA the Keg Party (maybe not that one). Whatever name you choose, this event is an excuse for a man and his crew to… well… drink a lot. But thematically and in celebration of a damn good cause. These Guys Know How To Party In my circle, the Dadchelor Party goes by the name Man Storm. (To parse that for you, it’s Man instead of Baby, and Storm instead of Shower. Clever, no? I can’t take credit.) A Man Storm has little to do with gifts, and more to do with experience. It’s a celebration recognizing that a father to-be has a lot of responsibility headed his way, and it’s an excuse for said gentleman to be anything but responsible for at least a day (but ideally a weekend). First I’ll tell you of my own Man Storm, then I’ll share some tried-and-true ideas for making your own event — or the Dadchelor Party you plan for a bro — epic enough to tide you over for a year or 18. (Because parenting stops the moment they turn 18, right?) It began with a trip to Golden Road Brewery, a spot with beer aplenty, as well as fine burgers and lot of large, heavy wooden furniture, just the kind I like. Beer was consumed. Burgers were eaten. Man things were spoken of. Next the crew and I piled into a limousine and traveled south from Los Angeles all the way to Buena Park, where we attended the Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, where more beer (and specialty cocktails served in large novelty mugs) and more meatstuffs were consumed. Also we yelled at our knight a lot. As I recall, we wasn’t the finest jouster of the evening and, not feeling particularly reserved, I let him know this fact in no uncertain terms. (And for the record, I’m sorry, Green Knight — it was nothing personal, I just got tired of seeing you not defeat that awful Orange Knight, so I used unkind words. Also why don’t you learn how to use a goddamned sword?) Our trusty limousine brought us back to my (then) hometown of Glendale, CA, where we were deposited at a pool hall. After many gloriously bad games of billiards, I elected to skip a taxi and stroll the mile or so back to my house to collect my thoughts (and have a cigar). There, I encountered my wife dealing with some morning sickness (which often comes in the middle of the night or the early afternoon or whenever the hell it wants, FYI), so I helped her through some nausea while feeling perhaps not great myself, but while certainly appreciating the fine group of men with whom I’d shared many reflections on fatherhood and life in general, and with whom I’d shared way too many drinks. Now, as for how to plan a Man Shower party, all you really need to know is how much time is available, and what the dad to-be likes to do. And also what he likes to drink, as unless he is a teetotaler, that’s a big part of this process, and you might as well own it. Vegas, baby: If you and the guys have an overnight or weekend free, then by all means hit up Las Vegas or Atlantic City and have a blast; just make sure you reserve plenty of time to be together, as trips to those and similar cities often see the group going in different directions. Make sure to find low limit tables where you can all sit together and focus on talking more than money. I’ve always loved hanging out in the sports book area, where you can often get a table, place small, low stress bets on horse races all around the world, and enjoy your friends’ company at leisure. But you do your thing; just keep in mind that disparate financial situations might make this type of trip a burden for some. Hiking/Camping: There’s no better way to enjoy the company of your friends than with nothing to distract you save for the stunning beauty of nature. Do a day hike if time is tight and booze isn’t that important to your crew. Car camp and pass the brews if that’s more your speed. Or go ahead and climb Mt. Rainier if you want enjoy an existential crisis or two and feel more lactic acid in your quads than you knew possible. Or just go fishing. A Good Ol’ Party: More often that not, your Dachelor Party is going to be a single evening event, AKA… um… a party. So make it awesome. The menu and the beverage selection is up to you (if you’re having trouble there, just go with BBQ and beer, dude), but here are some fine ideas for Man Shower party games — I’ve linked to the sources, and can’t take credit for all of these fine ideas. I’m here to share, sir, I’m here for you. Blindfolded Diapering: FYI, the early years of a child’s life involve a lot of diapers. The better you get at changing a diaper, the better your life is going to be. And while diapers aren’t really that big of a deal, changing them isn’t exactly fun. Unless you’re changing the diaper of a doll while you’re wearing a blindfold and also you’re drunk. No need to explain this in greater detail, I’ll wager. Labor Face vs. Orgasm Face: Pretty simple, but lots of fun (and maybe a bit disturbing). Compile a sheet with close-up images of women’s faces who are either in the throes of ecstasy or the pains of labor. The man who makes the game sheets has an interesting hour or so ahead of him; the players will enjoy the game, and will find it harder than expected to choose correctly. Credit A Bottle of Beer: It’s a scientifically proven fact that, given the choice between drinking beer out of a tarnished old tuba or not drinking beer at all, a man will immediately begin to guzzle suds from the corroded brass instrument. This also holds true when beer is served in a baby bottle. Make that the beverage conveyance of the evening, or set up a race even to see who can chug their baby bottle of beer the fastest. The winner gets another beer! Balloon Shoe Tie: Put yourself in the pregnant lady’s shoes by having all the men in the group inflate a large balloon, tuck it under their shirts, and then try to tie their shoes while seated without popping the balloon. This game is harder than you’ll expect if your balloon is properly centered. Flexibility helps, as does the fact that you can just take the damn balloon back out any time. Credit Beer Pong: Just play some beer pong, brah. You don’t have to be clever with everything. Editors’ Recommendations

Baby showers for men are becoming more and more common and for good reason. It is a fun way for the dad-to-be to celebrate the pregnancy with his friends, family, and co-workers. One of the best ways to celebrate is with a diaper party. If you are new to the guy baby shower idea, as well as a diaper party, we break down the logistics of what is a diaper shower and all the how-tos on how to throw an awesome diaper party in no time. What is a Diaper Party?A diaper party is a fun and simple way for dads-to-be to celebrate their new bundle of joy. You might also hear people refer to diaper parties as “dadchelor parties,” “man showers,” or “baby stag.” A baby shower for men is all about celebrating the father-to-be with all his favorite things. Guests typically bring a pack of diapers and perhaps some wipes to help the future parents stock up on the important baby essentials. This is a low-key gathering for guys to get together and have fun. A diaper party is straightforward in comparison to a baby shower, where the husbands celebrate with simple snacks and beer. Why Have a Diaper Party?A baby shower is not just for the mother-to-be. It’s also for the father, who will have a hand in taking care of and raising the child. A diaper party is a great way to honor the father of the baby on his upcoming role as a parent. Diapers are the most needed item for babies. However, they are also one of the most expensive. Given that on average babies wear about 3,000 diapers in the first year, the cost can be quite staggering. That’s where diaper parties come in! Instead of having the guys bring breastfeeding equipment, toys, or other baby accessories as gifts, they can bring boxes of diapers. Having this fun get-together will provide the expecting parents some financial relief as they stock up on diapers for the first few months. What is the Difference Between a Baby Shower and a Diaper Party? There are some pretty distinct differences between a baby shower and a diaper party. The main difference is that guests bring diapers for gifts instead of other baby-related items such as pacifiers, washcloths, and receiving blankets. Commonly baby showers have:
Diaper Parties have:
Who Should be Invited to a Diaper Party? When it comes to who is invited to the diaper party the dad-to-be decides the invite list. This usually consists of friends, co-workers, and family. Who Hosts a Diaper Party?Typically diaper parties are hosted by the dad-to-be’s family or close friends. Similar to a baby shower, it’s not common etiquette for you to host your own diaper shower. If you are a dad-to-be and want a reason to get together with friends to celebrate the last days before fatherhood, tell your close friends or family that you would like to have a men’s baby shower. Introduce them to the idea of a diaper shower as your preferred celebration. How to Throw an Amazing Diaper Party1. Pick a LocationYou will want to pick a location to have the party. This is typically at someone’s home or in a backyard. For more extensive celebrations, the diaper party can take place at a location where there are multiple activities. For example, if the father-to-be is a fan of golfing, consider having the diaper party at a country club where he can play a round of golf with his friends before dining at the restaurant. Other great places are at a sporting event or at a favorite bar. The one thing to consider is if you will be drinking at the party you want to make sure that your location allows for this. 2. Choose a ThemeBaby showers for men usually are unthemed. They really are just gatherings to get together and have fun. If you would like to spice it up a little bit you can easily have a themed party! Some great options are:
3. Compile a Guest ListTalk with the dad-to-be about who he wants to be at the party. Get phone numbers or addresses so you can let all the guests know. 4. Create Diaper Party InvitesYou will want to let people know about the event. So grab some fun diaper party invites and send them, or if it is easier you can send a text to let them know about the party. You can even send the invites through email if this is more your style. On the diaper party invite be sure to put the following information:
Diaper Party Invitation IdeasWhen it comes to diaper party invites, make it as stress-free as you can. If you decide to mail out invitations, there are many options on Amazon for you to choose from. Some are even customizable so you can mail them right out after you receive them! Here are some of our favorite invitations that are perfect for a dadchelor party. 5. Prepare Food and DrinksWhen planning a diaper party, consider simple food that you can eat easily with your hands. Hamburgers, wings, hot dogs, tacos, and pizza are the most common food choices, but you can do sandwiches, dips, or even just snacks. Beer is the most common drink to serve, but you can also serve cocktails or hard alcohol if you choose. I always recommend having plenty of water and some soda on hand just in case friends and family choose not to drink. When it comes to dessert, storebought cookies or a cake are a great choice. No need for fancy pastries! 6. Decorate for the Diaper PartyDiaper parties are low-key, so no decorations are necessary! A group of men probably won’t even notice if you put up any decorations. But if you want to spruce up the place a little, here are a couple of easy decoration ideas: 7. Set Up Diaper Party GamesGet your guests excited with fun and exciting games at the diaper party. There are some pretty fun games out there designed for men’s baby showers that the guys will love. Diaper party games can be as simple as playing the father-to-be’s favorite board games. For example, you can have the guys gather around to play poker or Cards Against Humanity. If the father-to-be is a gamer, you can throw a diaper party featuring various video games. Multiplayer games like Mario Kart and Super Mash Bros. for the Nintendo Switch are always super fun options. If there are guests who live out of state and can’t make it to the party, you can always include them by playing online games like Among Us and Castle Crashers. For diaper party game ideas that will get everyone up and moving, lawn games like cornhole or spikeball are easy to set up and fun to play. If you want to have more baby-themed games at the dadchelor party, here are some great ideas:
If you choose to have games at your dadchelor party, it is always fun to have prizes. These can be simple like an awesome beer flavor or a gift certificate to a restaurant. 8. Hold a Diaper RaffleOne fun activity that will ensure the dad-to-be gets as many diapers as possible while making the diaper party extra exciting is to hold a diaper raffle. The rule of the diaper raffle is that guests that bring a pack of diapers are entered into the raffle. You can expand the acceptable items to baby wipes and other diaper-related essentials such as diaper rash cream. Each pack of diapers counts for one raffle ticket. So if someone brings 10 packs of diapers, then he gets 10 raffle tickets and increases his chance of winning a prize. You can cut up pieces of paper and write the guests’ names on them for the raffle tickets. To save time, you can also purchase these diaper raffle tickets that match the beer theme: If you are doing a diaper raffle, make sure you include the instructions on the invitations, especially if you have specific requirements such as organic or cloth diapers. Of course, then you need to decide on a raffle prize! Some prize ideas include:
Diaper Party Gift IdeasIf you are attending a diaper party, selecting a gift is easy. Unlike a baby shower, where you have a whole list of best pregnancy gifts for moms to choose from, you just need to stop by the store on the way and grab a pack or two of diapers and some wipes and you are all set. No need to wrap them either! When selecting your diaper size, it is common to get newborn diapers, but try to avoid these as the baby only will wear these for a couple of weeks, and some won’t even wear them at all. Try to choose sizes 1, 2, or 3 because these are the sizes that babies wear the longest. Fun and Easy Diaper Party for the Father-to-BeBaby showers are the perfect way to celebrate the birth of a baby. However, men often feel left out because the activities are often geared toward women. But dads are important too, and they deserve a special day to celebrate with their buddies before stepping into fatherhood. Throwing an awesome diaper party is simple and fun! There is no reason to go crazy in the planning. It is a fun way to celebrate the dad-to-be, get together, and spoil the baby that will be here soon. The parents-to-be will be so thankful for all their wonderful friends and family and all the diaper gifts they will receive. Having a large stock of diapers will at least mean one less thing to worry about when taking care of a newborn. Trust me, nobody wants to be running out for a diaper run at 2 AM with an unexpected baby diaper blowout. Oh, the joy of parenthood. Related Posts:

Child nutrition from 1 to 3. From zero to primer
Child nutrition from 1 to 3
A one-year-old child continues to grow and develop actively, so his body needs plastic and energy resources that provide complex processes of formation and improvement of all organs and systems.
We already know that the main building material from which our own organs and tissues are formed are proteins that come with food. At this age, the daily protein requirement of a child is expressed as 4 g per kilogram of weight. Proteins are made up of different amino acids. There are 20 of them in total, and 8 of them are irreplaceable, that is, they are not synthesized in the body and must be supplied with food in order to provide the growing body with vital substances. Essential amino acids are found in animal proteins, which should make up 75% of the daily amount of proteins. The remaining 25% should come from vegetable proteins contained in cereals, vegetables, and greens.
Fats are the main source of energy, and are also part of all body cells, are involved in metabolism and are suppliers of fat-soluble vitamins and PUFAs. The quality of fat is of great importance in the nutrition of children. Of animal fats, the most valuable for a child are butter, sour cream and cream.
The daily requirement for fat is 4 g per 1 kg of body weight.
At the same time, 15–20% of fats should be of vegetable origin, supplying polyunsaturated fatty acids, of which linoleic and arachidonic acids are the most important in the nutrition of children. The first is found in sunflower, corn, cottonseed oil, and the second – in linseed and hemp.
Carbohydrates supply the body with energy, take part in metabolic processes, and are part of cells and tissues. The need of the child’s body for carbohydrates is 16 g per 1 kg of weight. The ratio between the main nutrients, which is the basis of a balanced diet, should be:
B: W: Y = 1: 1: 4.
The daily caloric intake for a child aged 1 to 1.5 years should be 1100-1200 kcal, and for a child aged 1.5 to 3 years – 1300-1400 kcal.
Dairy products still form the basis of the baby’s diet – up to 600 ml per day. This volume includes not only milk, but also fermented milk products that are currently in abundance: kefir, yogurt, yogurt, acidophilus, fermented baked milk, etc. Give preference to those products that have added beneficial bifidobacteria.
Cottage cheese and curd products (syrki, cheese mass) are rich in protein, are well absorbed by the body, and are a source of calcium, which is necessary at this age due to the intensive appearance of teeth. Therefore, 3-4 times a week they should appear on the table of a young child. Children love cottage cheese casserole, cheesecakes, lazy dumplings, which are served with sour cream, cream sauce, butter or jam.
Successfully used in baby food cheese, soft, mild, preferably melted or grated, which can be sprinkled on a piece of bread with butter or added to pasta.
A 1 year old child has 8 front teeth that are not designed for chewing food. This circumstance should be borne in mind and not rush into the introduction of solid food. Thorough grinding of food is now useless, but the meat should still be passed through a meat grinder, and pieces of vegetables in the soup should be kneaded with a fork. The baby already knows how to chew (with the gums), but for him this process is a difficult job, and he gets tired quickly, so take your time with solid food. In 1.5 years, 6 more teeth will be added, including 4 molars. Now it’s time to load them so that they do their job, especially since everyone else will soon appear. By the age of 2, the entire set of milk teeth flaunts in its place, and the menu becomes more diverse. And the point is not only in the appearance of teeth, but also in increasing the activity of digestive enzymes and improving the motor function of the intestine.
The pureed food period has ended. The kid is already actively chewing and copes well with pieces of vegetables, boiled or stewed meat. When eating, do not forget to remind the child of the need to thoroughly chew food and do not rush him.
The amount of meat in the diet is gradually increased. It is recommended mainly beef and veal, but sometimes lean pork, duck, goose can be given. In baby food, chickens, turkey, rabbit meat, which have tender and tasty meat, as well as offal rich in minerals: liver, tongue, are successful. In the daily diet, meat should be present in the amount of 100–120 g.
Do not get carried away with sausages, there is little natural meat in them, and various fillers and fat are over the top. Unfortunately, the speed and ease of preparation make these products extremely popular with young mothers, besides, children are happy to eat sausages and sausages, and they don’t refuse a sausage sandwich. If you can’t completely abandon your favorite folk food (sausages), use only boiled meat with a minimum amount of fat for baby food, and sausages and sausages – only from beef meat.
But be sure to eat fish. It is a source of high quality protein, which is also digested and absorbed better than meat. Fish contains vitamin A, minerals and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), which contribute to the development of the central nervous system. You can cook sea and river fish, just be careful with the bones, carefully choose them before serving the dish to your child. Fish and seafood are suppliers of iodine, which is necessary for normal brain activity. Iodine deficiency leads to mental retardation. Everyone should know about this, especially since in Central Russia 20% of the population suffer from endemic goiter, and 90% of Moscow children lack iodine. Use iodized salt in the nutrition of the whole family, this will make up for the deficiency of an important trace element in your diet.

Caviar deserves a special mention. Many parents consider this delicacy to be an indispensable product in terms of nutritional value and buy it specifically “only for the little one”. In fact, this is not the best product for a child: due to the high fat content, caviar is poorly digested and absorbed, and often causes allergic reactions. So it’s better to eat the caviar yourself, and the baby will be satisfied with the cod cutlet. For a week, the child should receive a fish dish 2-3 times (70-100 g each).
In baby food, chicken and quail eggs are widely used, rich in protein, minerals, vitamins A, D and group B. Egg yolk contains about 30% fat in the form of a finely dispersed emulsion, which is easily absorbed by the body. Eggs are a product of increased biological value in terms of composition and digestibility of essential amino acids. A child should consume 2-3 eggs per week in the form of an omelette or hard-boiled. Duck and goose eggs are not recommended for baby food, as waterfowl are often infected with salmonella. If a child is allergic to egg white, only the yolk will have to be given.
Fats for young children are needed in the form of butter and vegetable oils. No margarines and “light” or “diet” oils, as these fatty foods contain hydrogenated fats that disrupt all metabolic processes in the body. They are extremely harmful for adults, and even more so for a growing child’s body! Only natural butter – 25-30 g per day in the form of a sandwich or addition to porridge, mashed potatoes. Food should not be cooked on it, heat treatment reduces the nutritional value.
Vegetable oil (sunflower, olive, soybean) is used for dressing salads, vinaigrettes and for cooking. Its daily norm is 8-10 g (2 teaspoons). Try to use in the diet of the whole family not only refined, but also unrefined oil, which contains valuable biologically active compounds – phospholipids.
Bakery products for a child from 1 to 3 years old should be 80 to 100 g per day. Be sure to offer your baby rye bread – 30 g, as it contains B vitamins, vegetable fiber, which makes the intestines work. Wheat bread, bun, gingerbread, cookies, pie – the total weight of these products should not exceed 70 g per day. Daily excess consumption of simple carbohydrates will quickly lead to overweight and obesity.
But complex carbohydrates in the form of fruits and vegetables are given pride of place in the set of foods for young children. They are rich in minerals, vitamins, organic acids, vegetable fiber, pectin, which help the processes of digestion and metabolism. Complex carbohydrates are slowly broken down and gradually absorbed into the bloodstream, maintaining a constant level of glucose. And sugar and confectionery are fast carbohydrates that quickly enter the bloodstream and are deposited in the tissues in the form of fats. Therefore, complex carbohydrates (fruits, vegetables) should prevail in the diet of children – up to 400 g per day, and sugar and confectionery products should not exceed 50 g.
Cereals and pasta in baby food are widely used in the form of cereals, casseroles, side dishes. Almost any cereal is suitable for making porridge. And if grated apple, raisins, dried apricots, nuts or berries are also added to the porridge, then every day you can pamper your baby with various culinary masterpieces. Then he will not give up boring porridge and demand sausages.
Do not get carried away with pasta, they are high in carbohydrates. Therefore, for overweight children, the use of pasta is undesirable, it is better to prepare a vegetable side dish. To our second bread – potatoes, also treat without much predilection, all because of the same carbohydrates, no more than 100 g per day. But all other vegetables and herbs should please you with their wide range daily. Be careful with legumes (beans, peas, beans), many children do not tolerate them well and after eating, for example, pea soup, they complain of pain and bloating.
From drinks, fruit and vegetable juices, compotes from fresh and dried fruits, rosehip infusion, herbal teas are recommended for young children. The later your little one is introduced to colorful sodas, the better for their digestive system. But mineral water without gas or natural drinking water will not harm your health.
It is advisable to observe the feeding regimen for children. This accustoms the stomach to rhythmic work, promotes the production of digestive enzymes and maintains a constant level of glucose in the blood.
Breakfast (9.00–10.00) Milk porridge – 150 g, sweet tea with milk (100 ml), a slice of bread with butter.
Lunch (12.00–13.00) Carrot salad with sour cream – 25 g, vegetable soup with meat broth – 100 g, vermicelli – 100 with meatballs – 50 g, compote – 100 ml.
Afternoon snack (16.00–17.00) Cottage cheese with fruit puree – 100 g, rosehip broth – 100 ml.
Dinner (19.00–20.00) Vegetable puree – 100 g, fish soufflé – 50 g, sweet tea – 100 ml.
A baby between the ages of 1 and 1.5 years should be fed frequently – 5 or 6 times (if he wakes up early). Do not rush to put the child at the table as soon as he opens his eyes. Let him “work up” an appetite, but for now, you can offer a glass of juice (100-150 ml).
Breakfast (9. 00–10.00) Milk porridge with fruits – 200 g, tea with milk – 150 ml, bread with butter.
Lunch (12.00–13.00) Vinaigrette with vegetable oil – 35 g, vegetable soup – 100 g, fish cutlet (65 g) with mashed potatoes – 100 g, compote – 150 ml.
Afternoon snack (16.00-17.00) Bun (65 g) with yoghurt (125 ml), fruit – 150 ml.
Dinner (19.00–20.00) Cheesecakes with sour cream (180 + 20 g), milk – 150 ml.
Before going to bed, you can offer a glass of milk, kefir, fermented baked milk, acidophilus – 150 ml. For the whole day, the child is given 10 g of rye and 40 g of wheat bread.
For a child from 1.5 to 3 years old, the diet remains the same, but the portions are slightly increased. Immediately after waking up, offer your baby fruit juice or fruit puree – 150 g.
Before going to bed, you can offer a glass of yogurt, juice, fruit – 200 ml. For the whole day, the child will need 30 g of rye and 50 g of wheat bread.
Make up the menu for the child in accordance with the taste preferences of the baby and your own common sense, do not allow distortions towards excess carbohydrates or meat products, which is often the fault of the boys’ mothers: “The man is growing – he requires meat!”. Nutrition should be balanced in terms of protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. To overload the child’s diet with animal proteins means to give an increased load to the kidneys and cause disturbances in nitrogen metabolism.
Before a year (about 9-10 months) the child will reach for a spoon and try to eat on his own. Of course, this will not work right away. It is especially difficult for a baby to cope with liquid food, which cannot be brought to the mouth.
But don’t take away the spoon, but help the baby guide it to the right place. If there is a plate with a thick dish in front of the baby, he will try to do without cutlery and will eat with his hands. Persuade him to take a spoon in his hand and use it. Buy him a spoon with a thick round handle – it is more convenient to hold it. To wield a spoon for a child is a real job, so he gets tired quickly. In this case, feed him yourself.
To protect clothes from colorful stains, wear an oilcloth bib with a pocket where food that does not get into the mouth will drain. Daily spoon workouts will soon pay off, and by 14 months of age, most children are confidently up to the task of eating on their own. True, part of the food still gets past the mouth, but it is somewhat premature to demand accuracy from the baby of the second year of life, although it is time to teach the rules of behavior at the table.

Feeding and nutrition of the child
Feeding a baby is an art that is learned, plus a pinch of knowledge and a little patience. Becoming your child’s personal nutritionist requires knowledge of healthy eating, child development, and the ability to be creative
Special baby food
Baby food special
Meals for children
has its own characteristics and
complexities.
When planning a child’s diet, consider
certain features of the child’s body.
Child growth
The main difference between baby food is
the growth of the child’s body. That is, a baby needs more protein than an adult. Knowing about it
many adults make the mistake of focusing on creating a high protein diet,
although even the usual protein food consumed by adults contains
more protein than breast milk.
High mobility
Another feature of baby food is that children are very mobile in
different from adults. Greater mobility of the child’s body contributes to
exchange normalization. If children are forcibly restricted in their movements, this
provokes insufficient secretion of growth hormones, diseases, and as a result –
developmental delay.
Consumption of sweets
Due to the high metabolic rate, children, unlike adults,
are able to absorb significantly more sweets without much harm to themselves.
However, they should not be encouraged to do so. Although sweet foods are natural
origin are very beneficial for the child.
About cholesterol
In addition, children are much more active than adults.
use cholesterol.
It is very important for health, is the main component of the membrane, which
surrounds cells throughout the body. And the child grows, and he forms a lot
new cells.
An important nuance is the fat cells that make up the “fat” according to
most are formed during the first years of life. Subsequently they
grow and grow in size. Therefore, what it looks like
an adult is largely associated with nutrition in childhood.
Regulatory Excellence
mechanisms
Most important feature
baby food . Regulatory mechanisms in the child’s body
controlling the inflow and outflow of energy, function perfectly. His
The body knows exactly what food and in what quantities it needs. However, if
there is an abundance of deliciously cooked (with spices, fried, fatty and
etc.) and sweet dishes, the appetite will be coordinated by the tongue, and not by the physiological
need.
This level of regulation remains until the age of 14-17. Further
it is preserved under the condition that a person leads a healthy lifestyle.
A number of general rules can be identified – recommendations to which
it makes sense to listen in order to provide the child with the right diet.
1 baby food rule – diet
Proper nutrition of the child involves the absence of strict
dietary compliance.
What kind of lunch if you need to launch a rocket or lay down a doll
sleep? Such matters are as important for a child as love is for an adult, interesting
work, rest. Children are tiny but full-fledged people who are still
in need of care.
In addition, when there is no feeling of hunger, then
eat the body is not yet ready to eat, eat without pleasure, therefore
food won’t go well. When hungry, the baby will ask for it. And there is no problem in
that the child ate instead of three, two or five times a day. If food
normal and do not use violence against the child, then there will be neither malnutrition nor
overeating.
Baby food rule 2 – non-violence
In most cases, the child is persuaded to “eat for dad,
grandfather, mother, etc.”, or they simply order “until you finish eating, you won’t get up
from the table.” And if we imagine how we would feel in such a situation?
The baby’s body does not need food at the moment, so he does not want to, only
Total. Appetite may arise after some time, and there is no point in being offended.
However, the appetite should be for natural products – porridge, potatoes,
apple, milk, not sweets and cookies. In some cases, however, there are
whims and tricks.
3 baby food rule – diseases
Separately, it is worth dwelling on proper nutrition of a child with diseases. very wide
the practice of “feeding” sick children is practiced. There is an opinion that this
gives the body extra energy to fight the disease.
Paradox – in
following: the body really needs strength, it mobilizes all the resources
to restore the shattered balance. And the patient has no appetite
because all the energy is directed to the fight against the disease, and it simply does not
remains on the process of digestion. Animal instinct is at work here.
is aimed at survival, and no food simply “climbs”. For example, patients
animals do not touch food, even if it lies in front of their noses.
And force-feeding for medicinal purposes
directly harm the child.
Preferably, offer him
hot drink – tea with honey, warm fruit drink, etc.
4 rule – freedom in everyday nutrition
In terms of everyday nutrition, it is better if children have
choice of products. Thus, the problem itself is solved
nutritionally balanced flax substances and dietary calories.
Based on long-term observations, it was found that with
the presence of freedom of choice, children at the level of intuition or subconsciousness are able to
create a menu that will be the best in every respect. adult function
here – to orient the child in relation to the correct combination of products.
5 rule – fruit
Children can eat fruits without any restrictions,
it is almost impossible to overeat them, and they are very useful. But if
the child refuses, no need to force. With a lack of any mineral or vitamin, the child himself will ask
he needs an apple or even greens.
It is only necessary to coordinate the combination of fruits with other
products. These combination rules are objective for both children and adults.
If the products are combined correctly, healthy children will lack
gas emission, the stool will be odorless with a normal consistency, the tongue will be red
and clean.
6 children’s rule
nutrition – protein food
Protein food should be given to the child 1-2 times a day for
desire, but do not worry if he prefers rice or potatoes
instead of cottage cheese or pea porridge. But an excess, like a lack of protein, can
lead to unpleasant consequences.
You should not teach a child to sausage, because it
unnatural food that deceives the taste organs. From natural products
origin, the child should be able to choose from what they eat
adults.
7 baby food rule – dairy products
Milk, curdled milk, kefir, yogurt represent
makes great food for kids. However, they should not be combined with
starches. A child at the age of one and a half should not be fed with cereals for
milk. The best option is milk and dairy products
(room temperature) give as a separate meal. good variation
is a combination of cottage cheese with tomatoes (carrots) with kefir, yogurt or
milk.
8 baby food rule – sweets
If you feed your child with sweets, then definitely not after eating. Better
just give half an hour – an hour before the main meal. As a rule, they always give
after.
Sweet is really necessary for the children’s body. Sweets
natural origin – fruits, honey, dried fruits cover the needs
child’s body.
In case of painful conditions, reduced immunity, good
options will offer him soaked dried fruits, fruits, melons, watermelons and
hot drinks. And no more dishes and products. Several of these days
month will replenish the resources of the child’s body.

Overnight day care centers: 24 Hour Daycare in Queens, NY
KD Academy opens 24-hour child care center in urban core — MetroWire Media
The early learning and child care center KD Academy, currently located at 3501 Woodland Ave., will move its headquarters at the end of August to a freshly constructed, 14,000-SF facility located at 2141 Prospect Ave in Kansas City, Mo.
The expansion allows KD Academy to enhance its services, upgrading capacity from 95 to 430 students and from 19 to 65 caretaking employees. The center, formerly named The Kiddie Depot Learning Center, is Kansas City’s only child care facility that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“We’ve been forced to turn away hundreds of kids over the years simply because we didn’t have the capacity,” said founder and co-owner Penny Dale-McCant, who runs the business alongside her husband Myron. “This new state-of-the-art facility not only allows us to offer care for more kids from infancy through young adulthood, it’s also a beautiful building where families will feel at home. ”
The early learning center spans 10,000 SF and features a new, state-of-the-art design as well as award-winning literacy and STEM-based programs. The new space will also feature a saltwater aquarium foyer, colored alcove classrooms and a multipurpose lab for STEM and coding.
The adjoining 4,000-SF, mixed-use space will host partners that offer extended services to KD Academy families and the surrounding community. It’s the McCants’ goal to partner with local health, wellness or educational providers to offer these much-needed services to anyone in the community, not just KD Academy students. At this time, pediatric and mental health providers are being considered for immediate build-out of the space.
KD Academy’s mission is multi-pronged: The center provides around-the-clock care for children from six weeks to 13 years of age and also places a strong emphasis in early education and literacy training. Shortly after launching, the McCants also started an initiative to instill nutritional practices into mealtime. The nutrient-rich dishes are homemade by Myron’s mother out of KD Academy’s built-in “Nanny’s Kitchen.”
Penny started KD Academy out of her home in 2005, serving children and families from her neighborhood for seven years. In August 2012, the center scaled its business model into a 3,000-SF commercial facility while operating at maximum capacity.
After witnessing clients’ strapped schedules firsthand, KD Academy began providing 24/7 child care service to offer aid to working parents. Then, in 2017, the McCants upgraded again to their current space to meet exponential demand. Construction on the new facility, which began in 2019 — in partnership with local general contractor Centric Projects, and with architecture and interior design provided by KC-based Hoefer Welker — concluded in early August.
KD Academy’s new location in the Prospect Corridor will allow for continued development of the area as well as crucial child and health care services for Kansas City’s urban core as a part of the Central City Economic Development opportunity (CCED). Its location off of 71 Highway, I-70 and the 23rd Street pass-thru will also provide access and service to families from all areas of the city.
The early learning center has several public and private partnerships with local businesses and organizations like Gates Bar-B-Q, Reconciliation Services and Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide child care options for employees and families the organizations work with. Due to expanded capacity, KD Academy is actively recruiting new employees for all shifts.
“Our goal starting out was to create a child care model that exists nowhere else in the region, which we’ve done with great success,” Myron said. “The natural next step is to build out our capabilities to provide for as many babies and kids in need as we possibly can, as well as their families. The services that the new early learning and pediatric centers can offer will provide immeasurable value to families in Kansas City’s urban core and beyond. ”
About KD Academy
Founded in 2005, KD Academy began as a home-based child care facility, serving children from six weeks to 12 years of age. Understanding the glaring need for quality service, KD Academy began to provide service around the clock for working parents regardless of work schedule. Today, we pride ourselves on being Kansas City’s 24-hour/7-day, fully functioning child care facility with an equal focus on education and nutrition. Learn more at kdacademykc.com.
Extreme Daycare: Would You Put Your Child…
Finding quality childcare has long been a source of stress for parents. For those who work irregular or long hours—beyond the typical 9-to-5 routine—locating a trusted daycare center that can accommodate their needs can seem nearly impossible. And according to many estimates, an increasing number of people in today’s workforce are bound to non-standard work hours. Recent research from the Economic Policy Institute found that at least 17 percent of workers in the U. S. have unstable work shift schedules (which includes irregular shifts, rotating shifts, and on-call hours), and as many as 45 percent of those workers say they often experience work-family conflict.
To fill in the childcare gaps that more parents seem to be experiencing in recent years, 24-hour daycare centers have been popping up across the country. On a typical night, children at 24-hour childcare centers may be doing their homework or reading bedtime stories, and then brushing their teeth and going to bed. For parents who work the night shift, they may pick up their kids in the morning. For other parents who work odd or late hours, they may pick up their children mid-sleep to finish out the night in their own beds. These daycare centers offer overnight hours that other centers don’t offer. But are they a good idea for children? We asked pediatricians at Indiana University Health to weigh in.
The trend may be “very convenient for many parents who have to work evenings and odd hours and don’t otherwise have access to high quality childcare,” explains Meagan B. O’Neill, M.D., a pediatrician at Indiana University Health. For parents who work in 24-hour places such as hospitals, restaurants, and even casinos, cobbling together childcare among friends and neighbors can be hard on the adults and the children. The ability to give children a safe and consistent environment no matter the irregular schedule can help families function more efficiently and happily.
Of course, even 24-hour daycare can’t make up for the fact that irregular schedules take a toll on children. “Children like routine,” says Mary McAteer, M.D., a pediatrician at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health. Even if children can count on the daycare setting to be open, a predictable routine there may be lacking. For instance, kids may end up getting homework help from a rotating number of daycare workers depending on the day, or they may be sleeping in a different bed depending on how many children are at that facility that night. It could feel very unsettling.
What’s more, children’s sleep may suffer. It’s possible that if children “sleep at daycare some nights and at home other nights, they may have greater sleep disruption and/or difficulty falling or staying asleep either at daycare or at home,” notes Dr. O’Neill.
Despite these potential pitfalls, Dr. McAteer notes that a 24-hour daycare center may be the best option in some situations. “If the center is licensed, certified, and follows safety protocols, it might be the safest place for a child to sleep or for that childcare handoff to occur,” says Dr. McAteer. She recommends the center have a level 4 daycare certification, which means it has high quality staff, it’s passed muster with the state department of health, and requires the staff to have ongoing training in child development and safety.
Beyond the licensing and certification requirements, Dr. O’Neill also suggests that parents trust their instincts when choosing a childcare center. One of the most important things in evaluating any daycare setting is that “the family is comfortable with the overall structure, schedule, and care that the child is receiving there,” says Dr. O’Neill.

USSR through the eyes of a child: Five days in kindergarten

Tags: USSR childhood nostalgia
Like all of us, I remember very little from my preschool childhood. But I remember some things – this is a five-day week in kindergarten (60s of the XX century) – a terrible childhood experience. And what is a children’s five-day? This is a round-the-clock stay of a child in a kindergarten from Monday morning to Friday evening without the most dear people in the world – Mom and Dad. It’s hard for me to say what it was connected with, I didn’t know the work schedule of my parents in the 60s.
A little about my memories – it was a shame that in the evenings other children were taken home, and no one took us – 10-12 children home. In the native and familiar world. My father was a miner, shift work, for weeks on the same schedule, including at night. And Mom at that time worked as a sales assistant in a store, from how much to how much, I honestly can’t even imagine ..
But it was also good, they read bedtime stories to us, showed filmstrips. Half a century later, I remember the names of my two favorite night nannies – Baba Zhenya and Baba Masha. They stayed with the children. Were they elderly women in the modern sense of the word, I will not say, most likely not.
Although even in those days pensions were not as generous as the state. I didn’t remember the evil ones, but my memory has preserved these two kind-hearted women …
A memory stirred in the layers of memory, but it turns out that many remember this from their childhood and I will post some memories here. I really hope that such a test for the child’s psyche has become obsolete and today’s kids do not know these experiences anymore – a childish bitter feeling that for some reason they abandoned you . ..
I don’t want to go to five days !! Author: lena
Source:
“I didn’t have a nanny, I grew up on a five-day period,” said the daughter of the heroine Lyudmila Gurchenko from the movie “Beloved Woman of the Mechanic Gavrilov”.
In my Soviet, cloudless childhood, I also grew up on a five-day week. Now this phenomenon has been completely eradicated, but then, in the 60s and 70s, there were so-called round-the-clock groups in kindergartens and nurseries throughout the country, where the children of the builders of communism were from Monday morning to Friday evening, and only on Saturday and on Sunday their parents took them home to wash, feed something tasty, chat, take them to the swing in the park, to the cinema for cartoons, sometimes to buy ice cream.
At the time of which the story is told, the parents worked from dawn to dusk, often in night shifts. And not only dads, but also moms. And those who did not have grandparents, and there was no one to leave small children with, the state showed concern by creating such groups.
In the evening, after 7 pm, when loving parents and grandparents took the happier peers from kindergartens and nurseries, they brought the rest of the children into one group, read them a bedtime story, showed them filmstrips, or simply let them play and put them to bed at 9 pm. How we envied the children we took home, how we missed our parents, I cannot express it. I had a friend, our beds stood side by side, and every evening we dreamed of finding matches and setting fire to a kindergarten at night to spend the night at home.
One evening my friend hid behind the front door and was not noticed when the door was closed for the night. So he was free and went straight home. Thankfully it was close. His parents worked the night shift, and his grandmother went to relatives. The child pulled the closed door and went for a walk through the streets. In the garden, at that time there was a huge commotion, an employee of the children’s room of the police was called, who appeared immediately and conducted a survey of the children, who and what they saw. In the end, thanks to the vigilance of Soviet citizens who saw a lonely child walking around at a later time and reported where to go, the fugitive was found and returned to the bosom of his “beloved” kindergarten, educational work was carried out with the rest of the children on the topic: “What will happen to us, if we decide to run away from the garden.” This story was dragged on for a long time, constantly intimidating children.
My parents also had to send me and my brother to a round-the-clock group. Dad worked as a driver, he was often sent on business trips, my mother worked as a cook and her working day began at 7 in the morning, my grandparents lived far away, in the village. One day my cousins decided to pick me and my brother up from kindergarten in the evening. One of them was already 14 years old and therefore we were allowed to pick up. As we walked home, we were the happiest kids in the world. But they came and our joy was overshadowed. Dad was away, mom had to work in the morning. In short, the sisters got it for arbitrariness, and we were awakened at 5.30 in the morning, it was dark night outside, rain and cold, already at 6 in the morning we were in the garden. They knocked for a long time until they heard us and opened the door. How we sobbed together with my brother and did not want to cross the threshold of a preschool institution, but of course, no one listened to us.
And when I watch the movie “Winter Cherry” and the son of the main character Antoshka cries, “I don’t want to go to five days” – I personally understand him perfectly and sympathize.

Round-the-clock kindergartens: where to leave a child for 24 hours?
Many people in Kiev often have an urgent need to “put the child in good hands” around the clock. This topic is especially relevant during the holidays and holidays.
Considering the growing demand for such services, many kindergartens in Kyiv began to recruit round-the-clock groups.
The editors of Delfi asked what are the peculiarities in the process of placing a child in a round-the-clock kindergarten and how much such pleasure costs on average.
What do they offer?
Kyiv has a wide variety of round-the-clock kindergartens or kindergartens with round-the-clock groups. As a rule, in each district of the capital there is at least one kindergarten with a 24-hour work schedule, so arranging a child will not be a problem.
Private home-type kindergartens operate 24 hours a day. As a rule, they take children from the age of 2, less often – from 1.5 years.
There are, of course, public pre-schools with 24-hour groups. However, it is not so easy to place a child in such a group, since the recruitment is carried out only from day groups.
In addition, there are specialized round-the-clock kindergartens in Kyiv for children with various problems: visual, hearing, and musculoskeletal disorders.
As for the services offered by 24-hour pre-schools, it is quite extensive: children’s fitness, educational games and activities, theater studios, a swimming pool, outdoor walks, music classes, services of a psychologist, speech therapist and so on.
The “price gap” for the services of round-the-clock private kindergartens is extensive. Monthly payment averages 3.5 thousand UAH. Services of public kindergartens will cost less. According to employees of preschool institutions, an additional fee is charged for the round-the-clock stay of a child in kindergarten – approximately 3-5 hryvnias per day to the base payment.
Peculiarities of round-the-clock kindergartens:
– As a rule, a small number of children are recruited into round-the-clock groups – up to 10 people maximum, as required by the norms. True, the employees of budgetary preschool institutions themselves admit that sometimes they have to go to the trouble and recruit up to 20 people in a round-the-clock group.
– 5-6 meals a day are provided, while in traditional preschool institutions children are fed, as a rule, 3-4 times a day.
– Flexible working hours. You can bring and pick up your child at any time. However, many kindergartens are reluctant to send children at night when the group is sleeping. But if you really need it, then they will meet you halfway.
What to pay attention to:
When placing a child in a round-the-clock home kindergarten, you should pay attention to a number of important points:
1. Do not forget that often many private home kindergartens do not have a special license for educational activities.
