8 movement activities for kids
If you have squirmy children on your hands, playing movement games can help get out their wiggles and provide the entertainment they’re looking for. Movement activities and games aren’t just fun though; they also help the development of their motor skills.
“Play is the best way to help develop young children’s large motor skills,” says play advocate Meryl Neiman, a co-founder of Playdate Planet. “Once they can understand basic rules, children enjoy movement games, and they can be wonderful incentives for kids to get the physical activity their bodies need.” She adds, “For little ones, I recommend looking for low-key or non-competitive games.”
Physical games can do more than just get the blood pumping, as well. “When it comes to children under the age of 5, imagination is key,” says Mari Hughes, co-owner of The Little Gym. “Following a set of strict rules and instructions will not keep the game going very long. Instead, by giving them a chance to use their minds and create, they will build up their cognitive skills, their social skills as well as their confidence and leadership skills. ”
With that in mind, here are eight fun and easy movement games for little kids:

Tag
Tag teaches your child how to capture things and navigate challenges using a little healthy competition, and there are many ways they can play. “You can try freeze tag and have children simply freeze in place until they are set free by the touch of another child,” suggests Neiman. “Improvise with fun variations like requiring tagged children to do a number of jumping jacks or spins before rejoining the game.”

Tape jumping
For this game, all you need is some tape! Lay out six to eight strips of tape on the ground about a foot apart. The object of the game is to see how far your little one can jump. Number the pieces of tape to help keep track. As they master jumping all the strips of tape, add more for difficulty.

Hopscotch
Hopscotch is a classic on school playgrounds, and is “great for working on everything from balance and spatial perception, to fine motor skills drawing the board [to] executive functioning in planning your next move,” says Neiman. Plus, it’s great practice for number recognition!

Puddle jump
You don’t need a rainy day to do some puddle jumping; all you need is a jump rope and some cups of water. In this game, two people swing an extra-long jump rope, and every other child holds two cups of water while they jump into the rope’s jump space. After five jumps, they exit. After each child takes a turn in the jump rope, the one with the most water left in their cup wins!

What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?
“To actively engage a 4- to 5-year-old for any length of time,” says Hughes, “they need to be involved in the creation and running of the game.” To play this game, the kids line up a good distance away from the player chosen to be Mr. Fox. The kids shout, “What time is it, Mr. Fox?” And “Mr. Fox” answers with a time of day. The kids then get to take that number of steps toward him.
Hughes, however, suggests a twist: “When the kids are called over, the parent (or Mr. Fox) can implement the use of imagination by saying things like ‘Take two elephant steps over,’ or ‘Take three steps like a mouse.’ Kids love to pretend to be animals.” The first player to pass Mr. Fox wins.

Rolling
Rolling your body across a surface isn’t only fun — it also helps with the development of your child’s brain and body coordination. Rolling horizontally helps assist in balance, linear movement, strength and understanding tactile space. Once your child has mastered turning over on a flat surface, take it outside and try rolling down a grass hill. The first one down the hill wins!
7.
Tissue dance
This is a fun game that works on posture, body control, balance and concentration. Have everyone start by placing a tissue on their heads. When the music starts playing, everyone starts dancing. But be careful; don’t let the tissue fall off your head! If the tissue hits the ground, you’re out.

Obstacle course
Kids of all ages love to create. Hughes suggests giving them a bunch of big empty boxes, toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls and markers, and sending them into a room to build an obstacle course. Step back and watch their problem-solving and planning skills soar. When they’re done, they can engage the tricks of the obstacle course they just created

Take the kids on a walk through the forest without leaving the living room. For each prompt, demonstrate a movement while you tell the story out loud. For example:
You are walking down a path in a forest (walk in place).
You see a deer leap across the path (leap!).

But you trip on a branch and fall (slowly fall in place).
You roll down a hill (roll around on the floor).
You can take this in any direction you want and make it last as long as you need to!

Have your child curl up in a little ball on the floor. If they’re small enough, you can carry them to the spot.
Declare you are a gardener, and you are planting the rarest seed.
Tickle their back while you say, “Water, water, water!”
Lightly tap their back while you say, “Sun beats down, sun beats down!”
Now the seed can start to unfurl. “Oh, the seed is reaching through the soil!”
As your child slowly comes to standing, at each stage say things like, “Oh, the leaves are unfurling!” and “Look, there’s a flower on the top.”
Finally, have your child stretch to the sun.
You can end it there, or you can go and pick the flower, having the kiddos collapse in a giggling heap as you “chop” at their heels.

The Alphabet Workout

This one takes a bit more prep, but it’s super easy to learn and guaranteed to burn off energy in no time. First, you need to associate a specific exercise with letters of the alphabet (example: A, 5 burpees, B, 10 jumping jacks, C, 10 jumps in place). Bat the Balloon
Fill a balloon, toss it into the air and count how many pats your child can bat the balloon before it falls to the ground. Add another balloon to make the game more challenging.
Balloon Ball
All it takes to play balloon volleyball, baseball, basketball, or hockey is hot air (to blow up the balloons!) and a little ingenuity. Use trash cans on opposite sides of the room as baskets and a simple painter’s tape line to divide the room for a volleyball net. For hockey and baseball, use pool noodles to bat balloons in the air or on the ground.
Balloon Challenge
Blow up as many balloons as you can, and divide them up so roughly half are inside a painter’s tape-made circle and half are outside of it. Then free the kids, challenging one to get as many balloons into the circle while inviting the other to keep out as many as possible. It’s a Ying/Yang situation that’ll wear them out faster than you can say, “nap time!”

“I like to freeze, come home and go to the stove.
” A Belarusian woman told how she lived with her family for 10 years in an abandoned village
Evgenia Mantsevich, editor and author of the website Downshifter.by, has been living in the village for 10 years with her husband and son. She says that during this time her life has completely changed. And although much of what was planned did not work out, something was achieved that had not been thought about before. Evgenia talks about ten years of downshifting on her website.

– “Living in the city is no longer fashionable,” boldly wrote 10 years ago on a well-known website, the metropolitan journalist Roma Nosov about several eccentrics who moved from the city to the village. Among those eccentrics were the newly minted downshifters – me and Verasen (Eugenia’s husband. – Approx. CityDog.io).
Who would have thought, but that article, dated July 2012, caused a flurry of dissatisfied comments and angry remarks. And no wonder! Living in the city was fashionable! Moreover, many have just moved there, and here a certain Roma Nosov declares that it is not fashionable to live in the city! Look you!
It was not fashionable to live in the countryside. But Roma Nosov seemed to be looking into the water. Ten years have passed since the publication of this article, and the trend of rural downshifting in Belarus has not died out, but is even gaining momentum.
At the same time, not only have there been fewer empty houses in the villages, but the general narrative in the Internet space has also changed. If under the mentioned article one could find comments mainly like this: “this is before the first winter”, “they simply don’t have children”, “here something happens, and how long will the ambulance go?”, then now under similar articles, people mostly admire the heroes and wish them success and good luck.
Of course, even now there are envious and ill-wishers who will always find something to cling to: either downshifters are called loafers (they say they didn’t want to work at the factory, so go to the collective farm), then sectarians (why do they celebrate Christmas with Kupall in the sun? ), then just eccentrics (what to take from them, just read an article about them).
But, nevertheless, in the course of conversations with acquaintances, new information is revealed: it turns out that this person has a farm, and this one too. And today, rather, those who do not have their own home in the village or on a farm look at least short-sighted.
But what about your own country house, well, cellar, zakatki, the same forest? Well, the truth is, the advantages of village life in the modern world have dramatically increased over the past couple of years.
There will be somewhere and something to survive any lockdown and even a nuclear winter. And the lack of proximity to important infrastructure is now seen as an advantage. In the event of war, no one will care about our godforsaken corner.
I felt it in 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic began. While people were going crazy in the cities, wearing masks and disinfecting their hands every five minutes, I thanked the universe that only five people were left to live in Lokhovshchina. And the distance between us is measured in hundreds of meters. And that I have to wash my hands only from the earth in which I dug, planting future provisions.
By the way, for all these 10 years I have had minimal beds. After experimenting with melons and watermelons for the first couple of years, I settled on kale, onions, carrots, beets, zucchini, pumpkin, and black radish. A little bit of everything, there is also a greenhouse with tomatoes. Sometimes eggplants and something else are added to this list.

But all this is so insignificant that you can even ignore it. My mother’s biggest fear is that rural labor will destroy me. But no, mom, don’t worry, I’m not the kind of person who would harm himself.
My whole garden is more for the soul, it’s a certain way of interacting with the earth, nature, yearly cycles and an option for physical activity, and not a real help in accumulating food supplies.
I couldn’t even save apples for the winter – they rotted, and those that didn’t rot were eaten by mice. So the neighbors’ uncles and aunts engaged in traditional agriculture are my support and reliable rear.
However, in 2020, I suddenly realized that my one and a half acres of a garden might not be enough for this year. Country after country went into lockdown, production stopped, planes stopped taking off, and my panic began to build. But panic in a village is never hopeless.
In any incomprehensible situation, plant a vegetable garden
That’s what my subconscious mind tells me, and that’s what it persistently told me in the spring two years ago. I gave up, ordered a tractor from a neighboring village (to be honest, it was so important to me that three tractor drivers from three neighboring villages took part in the process), and a two-hectare wasteland was raised, plowed and ready to become a vegetable garden.
Seed stores became my second home for a while. I furiously pulled out young and flexible thistles, threw away its finely chopped roots and sowed the ground with carrots, beets and cucumbers. Finally, I had the prospect of fully providing myself and my family with food.
But if you think one thing, it will turn out differently. My back was seized, and, having sowed only an eighth of the plowed land, I stopped this activity. Needless to say, the cut thistle roots have sprouted, and I still struggle with tall, thick weeds and scold myself for the weakness of two years ago.
And from Yura and Tanya , from whom I buy eggs and vegetables, everything is fine. And it’s enough to share with neighbors. Saida and Aruj always supply us with lamb and dairy products. Larisa and Kostya are still the source of fragrant honey and bread. And we sold our only hive to a neighbor. He needs more.
The nearest store is five kilometers from us. But as often as in the city, there is no need to go there. Living in a village, I got used to having a strategic supply of food – cereals, salt, sugar, butter. And what we need more often, we buy from our neighbors.
During these 10 years in the countryside, I began to appreciate the environment more. I became more concerned about environmental issues. My life has naturally become less harmful to nature.
At the same time, I do not forget about hygiene: yes, I wash myself, I have a washing machine and even a dishwasher. But I use homemade soap, which is made by the wonderful Nasta from the Zhyvoe workshop, and ubtan, which I make myself from local herbs and clay, the reserves of which are under our feet in unlimited quantities. I wash the dishes with soda and mustard.

I don’t use makeup at all. I have a grid for shopping and going to the fair. Naturally, I buy farm products in reusable containers. I don’t know if I would be the same if I lived in the city. But here, in the village, everything happens imperceptibly and naturally. Well, I can’t watch how, after washing, water with phosphate powder is poured onto the grass (and it was like that at the beginning).
Here I feel responsible for the environment. And it’s not that I don’t want to destroy it, I want to increase it. I started planting forests and gardens. Now I understand that we need to plant forest plantations.
I started getting sick less, and my joints stopped hurting so much
For 8 years of our life, we did not catch a single virus, but got sick only when my son went to kindergarten and began to bring viruses into the house. I still had to call an ambulance. Twice. One time I’m almost on 9a month of pregnancy, she broke her arm, about to open the yoke in the stove. The second time, when the son was first stung by a bee, was near the neck. Both times the ambulance drove for about half an hour.
By the way, yes. During this time, our son Danat was born. He was born in Minsk, but lived all his life in Lokhovshchina. He’s almost five. And he loves the village very much. Danat goes to the state Belarusian-language kindergarten six kilometers from us. Every day we take him to the neighboring town of Koshchelichy, a kilometer away from us, where he is picked up by a school bus. In winter, it is a special pleasure to roll a sled with a child in complete darkness.
Winter in the countryside is generally one of my favorite seasons. The snow here is crystal white, and our road is not even sprinkled – a neighbor needs a toboggan track for a horse. And on the mountain, the road sweeps up so that the snowdrifts become as tall as a man. In a way, this is inconvenient. But I wouldn’t change anything, because it’s romantic and even safe in today’s realities. Rolled tubing slides, ski slopes and silence. I like to freeze, come home, throw off my boots and go to the stove. Indescribable thrill.
In general, the stove is a savior even in the off-season. When the townspeople are freezing with batteries not yet turned on, we here adjust the temperature in the house to our taste.
From the achievements – we have achieved that a normal road was built to the farm, along which you can drive. Garbage collection containers have been installed in the villages. From what we did not manage to do: to install a wired Internet (but, thank God, in the modern world of mobile communications this is not so critical), to cancel the construction of a huge pig farm in the neighboring area (it was built anyway).
We did not run wild – fortunately for us, like-minded people and friends began to live nearby. Now it’s a big community of downshifters. There are children here too, so Danath does not grow up in isolation.
In Roma Nosov’s article, I found an interesting point – Verasen talks about our dream, which I completely forgot about: “And we decided to make a balloon. I am zero in safety, but I want to fly. Cloth, gas burner – what else do you need? It’s not very easy – the fence is, of course, easier. But I just want to ride it up the hill. Why else live, man? Collect for a car?
We never made the balloon. And they didn’t collect money for the car. They never even sat down with paints and brushes, bought before moving to the village, at an easel to paint landscapes.
Instead, they bought a neighboring house on a farm. Ten years ago, grandmother Vasilina and her two sons: Kolya and Vitya lived there. But over time, one by one, they died. And yet we managed to make friends with them.
We knew Kolya least of all – he died first. Vitya got to know much better. To the question “how are you?” Vitya always said: “It could have been better.” And he always told the same story, how in Odessa his boat got into a storm.
We had the closest relationship with Vasilina. We lived next to her for 8 years. Today we have renovated her house, registered it as an agricultural estate and named it Vasilina Art Farm. First of all, I wanted to keep the name of the hostess. Secondly, we want art to be created in this space, so that writers, artists, musicians use this place for creative residences.

Over these 10 years, many people wrote and filmed about us – both domestic and foreign media. But somehow I didn’t have a chance to talk about myself
And here it is, a modest attempt to fit 10 years of life into 10,000 characters. Of course, this is impossible. Basically, it’s a lifetime. We didn’t sit in one place all the time, we traveled.
But every time I come back, I’m still taken aback by the local scenery, by those majestic hills and colorful sunsets, by the thick morning fogs and the clear starry sky, by the first smell of spring and the moonlight flooding the snow-covered valleys and hills .
Yes, not all of our dreams came true, but I understand that everything that happened to me here during this time was natural, beautiful and necessary.
Downshifting is not a challenge for me. I don’t want to “lay down” my life in the service of some ideas, be it the revival of the village, the preservation of traditions or the restoration of biodiversity. Nevertheless, my whole life in the village is connected with these ideas.
I just feel them not as something external that requires effort from me, but as something that naturally comes from within and accompanies my existence. The expression “grow your own garden” has become for me not just a phrase, but a real life credo.
Doing your own thing, doing something beautiful and giving other people the opportunity to create beauty, on a plot of your own land – isn’t that happiness?

How and when are we billed?
All fees are due at time services are rendered.
If you choose to use hourly packages, you may purchase them at any time. Once you run out, you will be required to purchase another package or pay the remaining balance at the hourly rate. You will also be billed at pick up for any meals and snacks that were served.
If you choose to purchase weekly passes, they are due by 6pm the Monday of the weekly pass. Meals are included during valid hours with weekly passes.
Can I use my (packaged) hours to pay for meals?
Hourly packages can only be used to pay for the hours your child(ren) are in our care. Meals cannot be deducted from hourly packages and are billed at time of pick-up.
Can I buy meals in packages?
You may pay for meals at each pick-up or you can purchase any amount you would like at a time. For example, you can tell the front desk manager that you would like to purchase $10 worth of meals. That amount will remain on your file and meals will be deducted from that amount until it is at zero or you add more money.
Is the daily routine flexible?
We do appreciate the importance of keeping to a schedule and do our best to adhere to ours, but some flexibility is necessary. For example, on a day with fewer children, we may get through lunch a lot sooner and begin nap/quiet time a little earlier. Or on a rainy day, we may not be able to go outside. Often, the schedule is followed within a few minutes.
Do you put the TV on or play movies for the children?
Friday and Saturday nights are “Movie Night” at Kids by the Hour and,we get fun movies for them to watch and we serve popcorn and juice at 8pm.
How are the children organized?
Children are separated by age, according to the teacher/student ratios as required by law. Generally, one-year-olds are kept together and two and three-year-olds (and older) are kept together. These may change depending on how many of each age are in our care at any given time. We do look to place the child wherever he/she is most comfortable. For example, a child who just turned two may prefer to remain in the one’s room a little longer, before playing with the older children.
Is there a dress code?
Your child should be dressed comfortably and appropriately for the day’s weather. Bear in mind, there will likely be some running, jumping, and twirling in your child’s day. We also go outside to play throughout the day. They should be dressed in clothing that they are able to remove and redress on their own when using the restroom. Open-toed footwear is not allowed and tennis shoes or sneakers are strongly recommended. Stubbed toes and splinters from mulch are no fun for anyone.
What kind of training does your staff have?
Every staff member is individually trained by a member of our senior staff or center Director. Kids by the Hourcontinually provides in-house training and guidance to its entire staff. Additionally, every staff member is required to complete 40 hours of training with the Florida Department of Children and Families. They are each trained in First Aid and CPR certified.
Are background checks conducted on all staff members?
Absolutely! A Sheriff Criminal Background Check is conducted of every staff member and references are checked on every employee.
Are there fire drills in place?
Monthly fire drills are conducted and evacuation routes are clearly posted.
What security measures are in place?
Your child’s safety and well-being is our top concern.
- Kids by the Hour is equipped with security cameras for the use of our staff and owners.
- Our doors are locked at all times. Any person wishing to enter must be let in by the front desk manager.
- Children are closely monitored and any person picking up a child (who is not recognized as the child’s custodian) must be on the authorized pick-up list on the child’s enrollment form and provide valid ID.
How often is the facility cleaned and toys disinfected?
The facility is thoroughly cleaned daily and items are disinfected throughout the day.
Can my child bring food from home?
We ask that you do NOT bring food from home. We will serve your child a meal at meal times and a snack at snack times as required by law. In the case of allergies or other concerns, please discuss the matter with your center’s Director.
What happens if I am late picking up my child?
For children dropped off hourly, late fees are incurred if the child remains in our care past our closing time (not past the estimated pick-up time). Please refer to the Kids by the Hour Parent Handbook for our late fee schedule and further details.
For weekly passes, the parent will be billed hourly beginning at 6:30pm, when the weekly pass is no longer valid. Dinner will be served to the child and billed at pick-up. The parent may choose to pay the hourly rate or purchase an hourly package at pick-up.
*If a child remains in our care 30 minutes after closing and the parents and/or emergency contacts cannot be reached, the proper authorities will be contacted.
What if my child is medicated?
A written authorization signed by a parent or guardian must accompany any type of medication, sunscreen, or bug spray. All medication must be in the original container, indicating the child’s name, type and date of prescribed medication, as well as the amount and time of dosage. Again, a signed Authorization for Medication form must be on file and any medication will only be given in accordance to label instructions and applicable laws. Medication cannot be administered in food or drink or referred to as “candy”.

Work and family: childcare and hobbies
What can you do for your career while on parental leave? What business skills are acquired by a woman raising children? How to find a job using your talents and market requirements? Scientist and entrepreneur Tina Seelig shares her career development experience.
Dream Job: Talent + Market
How many people have told you that you have to follow your passion to be successful? I’m sure many. There is nothing difficult in giving advice to people who are trying hard to figure out how to live their lives. However, such advice most often oversimplifies the essence of the problems and misleads the listener. Don’t misunderstand me, I take the issue of passion seriously and I think that it is extremely important for a person to know what controls his actions. However, this is not enough.
Passion is just the starting point. In addition to it, you must understand what your talents are and how the world around them evaluates them. If you are passionate about something, but you are not a sufficient professional in this field, it would be strange to start a career in it. You may love basketball, but your height does not allow you to compete on an equal footing with other players. You can love jazz, but you can’t play a single note. In both cases, you are unlikely to become a professional, but you may well remain a passionate amateur by attending competitions and concerts.
To continue our reflections, you may have passion and talent in one area, but there is no market for it all. For example, you can be a gifted artist who truly loves to draw, or a surfer who knows how to ride any wave. However, we all know that the market for these skills is extremely small. An attempt to build a career around such a passion often ends in disappointment. I think you should treat these hobbies as great hobbies.
It may also happen that, in addition to talent in one area, you have a skill in another area for which there is a large enough market. In this case, you can think about finding a job related to this particular skill. For example, if you are an experienced accountant, you will always find an employer who needs to draw up a balance sheet. This is how most people in the world live. They have jobs to showcase their skills, but they can’t wait to get home to focus on what they love most – their hobbies. They count the days until the weekend, vacation or retirement.
The worst thing is if you have no passion for your work, no skills, no market for what you are good at. The coolest thing is when your passion somehow intersects with both your skills and the demands of the market. If you manage to find that crossover point, you’ll be in a great position to have your work enrich your life, not just provide the financial resources to enjoy life after work is over. You need to strive for a career in which you will do what you love, and for this (what a surprise!) You will also be paid.
Career and parenting: only pluses
It seems to me that it is important for a person to frequently reevaluate his life and career. Most people rarely re-evaluate their role, spending more years than necessary in a particular job, and therefore not optimally spending their lives. It seems to me right if you set for yourself the frequency of such reflections. Some people adjust and optimize their lives almost weekly or even daily. Others wait years before discovering that they are not at all where they hoped to be.
Some situations literally force you to reevaluate your own life. For example, when you decide to start a family, a completely different game begins. All of a sudden you need to strike a balance between work and childcare.
As children grow, their needs constantly change. Every year you have completely new responsibilities and problems to solve. Parenting can be considered an ideal opportunity to develop creativity and develop skills that are useful in any environment. Raising and caring for children develops the ability to multitask and make decisions under stress. And, of course, this allows you to become a real master of the negotiation process.
The problem of combining career and family responsibilities is especially common among women. My own experience shows that there are many possibilities here. Having and raising a child forces you to be more innovative and not consider traditional employment options with limited flexibility. With your child’s needs constantly changing, you can experiment with work with varying degrees of responsibility.
Although it doesn’t always seem obvious, the time in which you can make a career is long enough, and children stay small for only a few years. In other words, you can significantly accelerate your career path as your children grow up.
If you don’t want to work hard until your kids are older, don’t quit work entirely, but keep it on a slow fire. If you have not gone too far from work, it will not be so difficult for you to return. It’s quite simple to organize: you can either work part-time for a regular company or become a volunteer. This will allow you not only to retain your skills, but also to provide enough confidence in yourself that will help you when you decide to return to active employment.
The experience of Karen Matthews, mother of four and marketing consultant, is worth looking at. Karen works part-time: she takes on projects when she can, and if she’s too busy, she passes them on to her partner. An interesting example is Liza Benatar, the mother of two daughters, who decided to pay more attention to the school in which they studied. Lisa, an expert in the field of alternative energy, has started an educational program at the school that teaches children about environmental protection.
Finding a balance between work and parenting led me to the best career decision of my life. I wanted to develop intellectually, but at the same time not deprive my son of the opportunity to communicate with me. So I estimated each year how much time I would need for each of these activities and found ways to participate in projects that allowed me to remain as flexible as possible.
I took on tasks that I wouldn’t even think about if I didn’t have a child. I started writing books for children, launched a website for teachers, and even started teaching the basics of the scientific worldview at a private elementary school. In the long run, this experience proved to be extremely useful when I returned to full-time work. I gained credibility as a writer, learned how to build websites, and gained valuable teaching experience—in other words, I developed skills that I, in my current role, use every day.
As you move along your career path, it helps to periodically reevaluate where you are and where you want to be. This will allow you to quickly make course corrections, especially when things don’t go as planned or when exceptional new opportunities arise in front of you.

How a man can go on parental leave
For example, 35% of working married men completely rule out the possibility of taking parental leave instead of their wife. 26% of men would rather not agree to such a vacation. Allows the possibility of going “on maternity leave” instead of a wife every seventh (12%). 27% of respondents say they are ready to sit with the baby.

Fathers on parental leave, like mothers, may work part-time, or part-time, or at home, while retaining the right to receive benefits and receive wages for the hours worked or for the amount of work performed (for home). The employer is obliged to provide an employee who has a child with unpaid leave (vacation at his own expense) for up to 5 calendar days.
Vacation – out of plan
Also, an employee who has become a father has the right to take annual paid leave outside the vacation schedule. At the request of this employee, annual leave is granted to him during the period when his wife is on maternity leave, regardless of the time of his continuous work with this employer.

The Harris County Police Department (Texas) reported on its Twitter page that the incident at the hospital in the US city of Tombol ended without incident. “The suspect surrendered without incident. The medical center is no longer under lockdown,” the police said in a statement.
As a reminder, earlier there was a report that a man had barricaded himself in the intensive care unit. Local media checked information about the possible capture of at least two hostages. Subsequently, it was not confirmed: it turned out that the American behaved inappropriately because of the serious condition of his son, who is in the intensive care unit. It was with him that he locked himself in the ward.
According to the police, the man was taken into custody. At the time of his arrest, he did not have a weapon with him. As a result of the incident, no one was injured.

— Victoria, tell us about yourself, please. Where did you live before coming to Austin and what did you do?
Before moving to Austin, I lived, studied and worked in St. Petersburg, Russia. My activity was related to the organization of events such as weddings, corporate parties, birthdays and so on. Our company was among the top five in St. Petersburg. Many organizational skills have also come in handy in my job now in Austin.
— How did you get to Austin?
My husband and his family are Austin natives, so I moved to this sunny city.
What are you doing here?
I have been a real estate agent for Berkshire Hathaway TX Realty for many years. I love my job very much, and I have helped many Russian-speaking residents find their new home.
– How are your relations with your homeland?
I often visit Russia, visit relatives and friends. I have a lot of relatives and friends left in St. Petersburg, and in general I love this city. But Austin became like a native to me.
What cultures and habits from your pre-American life do you maintain?
I am a very traditional person, and still like my mother I try to cook pancakes on Sundays, just as we practically never miss a single national holiday.
— What initiatives do you take part in in the life of the community?
I hold a position at the Russian Chamber of Commerce in Austin TX, this is a great organization that aims to bring together the Russian speaking community in Austin and also advance the interests of the community at the state level.
How has your lifestyle changed since moving to Texas?
There have been a lot of changes, especially cultural ones, each place has its pros and cons, I really like it when it’s warm, and sometimes it’s more important for me than the beautiful but rainy St. Petersburg.
— How would you like to help the Russian-speaking community?
I have repeatedly given seminars on buying real estate in Austin and will continue to do so in the coming storm. My very activity is aimed at helping people in buying or renting real estate, finding a new home, moving, schools for children, I am very glad that I chose to work as a realtor, because every day I help people take what may be the most important step in their life .
– Tell me about your family
My family stayed in Russia, and in Austin – I have a husband and two of my favorite dogs Jack Russell Terrier, my husband has a big family, and we all communicate very well, so I’m very comfortable and I don’t feel like a newcomer to Austin.
