About the Provider

Description: OUR CENTER: The NOAA center opened its doors in September of 1993. We are a NAEYC accredited, GSA sponsored childcare center. We have a capacity for 85 children, ages Six weeks – Five years, with six classrooms. In addition, we have a non-profit parent board (Little Explorers) that we contract with to provide service at this location. We are located in NOAA Building Three in downtown Silver Spring (1315 East West Highway), conveniently located at the corner of East West Highway and Colesville Rd (Route 29) as well as directly behind the Silver Spring Metro Station. NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) is the federal agency that sponsors our location. Therefore, we do offer priority on our waitlist to NOAA families, followed by other federal families, prior to the general community. The center is open Monday-Friday (with the exception of Federal Holidays) from 6:30 A. M. -6:30 P.M. Our ratios are 1:3 for infants and toddlers; 1:6 for twos; and 1:10 for preschool children. Tuition varies based on the age group and number of hours per day you will utilize the center. The childcare center is located on the terrace level of the NOAA building. Therefore, we are not visible from the street and the center is completely secure. Entrance to the center is granted only through photo badge access (which all parents and guardians receive) or by signing in at the security desk. There is a parking garage located under the center, with four free drop-off and pick-up spaces for parents to park in. The center also has a large, secure, state-of-the-art, rooftop playground for the children to use, which is a rarity in the busy downtown Silver Spring area!

“New Horizons”: the brightest performances

The topic of understanding the ongoing special operation in Ukraine and tectonic shifts in the world order has become the main theme in the large project of the Knowledge Society, the educational marathon “New Horizons”. The lecturers were exclusive and the conversation turned out to be exciting. Interest in the event has become unprecedented. Broadcasts of the marathon “New Horizons” for three days collected more than 120 million views.

And in the hall – conversations about international politics, relations with the West, especially in the context of a special military operation in Ukraine.

“In fact, we are living in the conditions of such an ideal storm and the moment of truth. The very storm and the very moment that should ensure and protect our interests should make your life better, more comfortable, more stable and more secure. We are sure that we will win and achieve all our goals,” said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the head of state.

For young people who listen to speakers, it is now so important to find their place in life.

“The world has changed before our eyes and continues to change irreversibly. We can’t wait. Well, if you wait, it means that this new world will simply be formed without you and me. Any crisis opens up new opportunities. Opens up new opportunities for our country, opens up new opportunities for each of us. How not to miss these opportunities? Well, there is only one way – not to wait. It means to decide, it means to make decisions, it means to act, “says Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration.

Marathon participants are helped right here to decide on their future profession, to outline their personal educational trajectory. At the festival, you can try yourself as a high-speed train driver. This is the cabin of the train “Swallow”. Here everything is one to one. First, a short briefing is given – and on the road. The line-up is now clearly picking up speed. The trip is virtual, but the feeling in the cockpit is one hundred percent!

We are discussing import substitution on the way. Production of “Lastochka” in Russia is localized. There will be no problems with simulators for training machinists either.

Tomorrow is primarily about new technologies and relying on our own developments. An example of this is the domestic passenger liner MS-21, to which the West tried to put spokes in the wheels.

“A unique development that is better in its class than modern versions of Boeing or Airbus. Yes, all aircraft – I want to say that there are no exceptions here – are made in cooperation, and our industry also made the MS-21 in cooperation. But so it turned out that we were refused composite materials, we made the composite wing ourselves. Of course, this is an ultra-modern competitive aircraft,” said Minister of Transport Vitaly Savelyev.

“They are trying to present us with you, they tried to present us as a raw materials appendage, a “gas station”, as they said. We must understand: they themselves are suffocating due to lack of access to energy. That’s the whole point. We are the greatest country in the world. Because, when we are told about energy, energy is a high-tech industry. This is the most complicated high-tech business, and we have always done it better than anyone else in the world,” Mikhail Kovalchuk, director of the Kurchatov Institute, emphasized.

Seeing how confidently Russia is developing, the collective West openly relies not on diplomatic solutions, but on military force. Ukraine is being pumped with weapons.

– Is Kyiv getting away with everything, and if so, why?

– Ukraine is a consumable in a hybrid total war against the Russian Federation. The British, Americans, presidents, prime ministers, ministers say: we have no right to let Russia win. Russia must be defeated. That is, they have declared war,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“The most terrible thing is probably what we saw in terms of this monstrous information war, these are flows of lies, fakes, staged works. Sometimes they are as monstrous as human consciousness cannot imagine,” Dmitry Peskov noted.

But events could develop according to a completely different scenario. Russia persistently offered time after time to find mutually acceptable solutions in the field of security. However, they simply refused to hear Moscow.

My predecessor Andrei Andreevich Gromyko is famous for the phrase that 10 years of negotiations are better than one day of war. But we were given no other choice. We have had not 10 years, but 20 years since the West went to the preparation of tools, including the use of NATO and Ukraine to contain Russia. Since the end of 90-s. And all these years we insisted on negotiations, we were ignored. Therefore, now we will solve problems depending on how we see them,” Lavrov stressed.

Moreover, now Ukraine is not just a military foothold for NATO, but also a potential territory. “Poland will gnaw off Western lands from Ukraine’s ‘friend’,” head of the negotiating team Vladimir Medinsky said. Russia is about to be on the brink of default.0005

“We are not going to announce any defaults. We will calculate in rubles, we have money,” Siluanov assured.

In conditions when no pressure helps, the West has no choice but to impose personal sanctions.

– The West has imposed sanctions against you and your family. How did you react to this news?

– This is ridiculous. My wife and my married daughters have never been involved in politics. This is bullshit. They want to scare us with their sanctions. Today we are not fighting against Ukraine, we are fighting against NATO. And therefore, it is not easy for our state, but we will prove once again that Russia cannot be defeated,” the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, is sure.

One of the questions to Kadyrov is about the personality of the President of Russia and how the work with the head of state is structured.

“He knows everything that happens on the territory of the Russian Federation, when I have a meeting with the president, I always worry. He asks a question, names some village, which I even forget. And he says what problems exist. And therefore, when you go to the president, you have to prepare very hard,” Kadyrov said.

There are young people in the hall, but the topics are discussed as if at a government meeting. Here is Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov. The conversation is about the development of the defense industry. We are talking about the creation of modern types of weapons, new systems. One of them is “Peresvet”.

“It is already being serially supplied to the troops. And it can blind all satellite reconnaissance systems of a potential enemy in orbits up to 1.5 thousand kilometers, incapacitating them during the flight due to the use of laser radiation,” Borisov emphasized.

There are a lot of questions for Borisov, enormous interest from the press.

– How stable is the defense industry complex?

– Over the past 10 years, the defense industry has reached the guaranteed fulfillment of the tasks of the state defense order. The average percentage of annual completion approaches 100%. I think this is a very good indicator. We are coping with all the plans and tasks that our Armed Forces and other power structures set for the defense industry. There are no disruptions in the state defense order. Today we are actively pursuing import substitution programs, moving away from dependence,” Borisov said.

Topics range from technological advances to cultural policy. Especially now, when the West does not find anything better than to ban even outstanding examples of Russian classics.

“When today we see an attempt to abolish Russian culture by unfriendly countries, this, to put it mildly, is surprising. For example, it is very difficult for me to imagine how these “friends” will be without what they now prohibit in a while. As a rule, in such situations, those who prohibit it suffer,” said Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova.

About 14 thousand schoolchildren and students gathered at the educational marathon. And broadcasts on the Internet were watched by tens of millions.

Bright horizons of Anna Krivolap – artme-gallery

26.Apr.2020

Birthday is a special day when we start our own year and make plans for the future. Artists are no exception. Therefore, today we are talking about the birthday girl Anna Krivolap, a young, but already very famous artist from a large creative family.

Anna Krivolap, Before the rain, 2013

Every artist sees the world in his own way – Anna sees it blooming and bright. Anna Krivolap is a master of figurative abstraction, but the most interesting thing is her work with color! “Color has always been and is the basis for me, with its help you can convey a variety of sensations and states,” says the artist.

Anna Kryvolap, Image II, 2019

Anna Krivolap’s works are presented in series, most of which are dedicated to Ukrainian origins and traditions, translated into the language of modern painting. “Wells”, “Trees”, “Horizons”, “Involvement”, “Plastic Variations”, “Tapes” (“Strips”). Each series of works is a kind of artistic narrative, a story told with the help of color and shapes

Anna Krivolap, Wood (1), 2016

“Oh, “Lenta” is very interesting! My grandparents are from the city of Yagotin, where I often went with my parents, – says Anna. “Then my dad and mom, my husband and I, and several other artists bought dachas across from Yagotin, in the village of Zasupoevka, with a fantastic view of Lake Supoi.

Between our village and Yagotyn there is a bridge across the railroad, and there, on a large shield, ribbons are always fluttering. It is our local tradition to tie a ribbon on the bridge for weddings.

Every time I pass by here, I not only get aesthetic pleasure from these colors against the sky, but I always think how these ribbons resemble human destinies. Some are completely new, others are worn, shabby, and some come off and fly further … And all this against the backdrop of an unchanged, eternal landscape.

In October last year, the Museum of the History of Kyiv hosted Anna Kryvolap’s exhibition “Community”. The works presented on it are an old mosaic, rethought, sensual, as a modern artist sees it. “Such an amount of color cannot be given without emotions,” noted writer and art critic Anna Vladimirskaya at the opening of the exhibition. “Anna Krivolap is an example of 21st century impressionism.”

Anna Krivolap’s paintings are large in size, on such canvases there is room for emotions, a flight of fancy, and a bold hand of the master to unfold. From a distance, they look spectacular, impressive, but as soon as you get closer, you notice details, strokes, color transitions that you can look at endlessly… creativity, the most interesting moment for me is the transfer of the idea into the material. And the dialogue that arises between me and the first step in the work, when the material itself begins to form some kind of image and state, and the colors interact with each other, creating energy. The moment when something important for further development arises. For me, painting is a process, and it is as a process that I find it most interesting.”

Anna Krivolap, Horizons (5), 2016

One of the largest series of Anna Krivolap’s paintings is “City Skylines” (“Obrii Mist”). Anna travels a lot around the world, and its most picturesque corners come to life with the help of colors on her canvases. Istanbul, Gurzuf, New York – many cities and thousands of different shades…

Anna Krivolap, Horizons. Sarajevo (2), 2017Anna Krivolap, Alps, 2019Anna Krivolap, Kyiv skylines, Prorizna Street, 2016

Anna Krivolap was born in Kyiv, in the family of artists Zinaida Vasina and Anatoly Krivolap, studied at school with Zoya Lerman and Oleg Zhivotkov, at the academy – in the class of Daniil Leader. Kyiv occupies a special place in her work. “Kyiv – and immediately the heart stops!” says Anna. – I love this city for its rich history and culture, and I feel my Kyiv roots very deeply. Probably because I was born in its very heart, not far from the Opera House.

A series of works “Kyiv Horizons” – these are panoramas of the city, and individual streets, and houses, and always – a lot of sky. Sometimes it occupies two-thirds of the canvas, and you look at it like a real sky – for a long time, and you just can’t look away. “There is no sky like in Kyiv anywhere else – look!” says the artist.

Anna Krivolap, Kyiv Horizons (3), 2018Anna Krivolap, Kyiv Horizons (2), 2015

Anna Krivolap’s workshop is spacious, bright, in the historical heart of the city, on Andreevsky Spusk. The room is filled with light and filled with paintings. There are a huge number of canvases here, and when you start to sort through and examine them, you can’t stop. On the coffee table are art books and catalogs.

Gallery history

The works donated to the collection by the founders of the museum are not always masterpieces of fine art, but they always have a special meaning in the history of the museum. Gifts acquire the status of a historical document, become evidence of the interests, tastes and demands of the time, characterize ongoing events, often not only on the scale of a museum or their region. nine0005 A.K. Denisov-Uralsky. Picture. Ural landscape. 1901

Museum and public figure Pavel Nikolaevich Serebrennikov (1849-1917) donated to his favorite brainchild – the Perm Scientific and Industrial Museum – a watercolor “Ural Landscape” by artist A.K. Denisov-Uralsky. A native of Yekaterinburg A.K. Denisov-Uralsky (1864-1926) – painter, stone cutter, mineralogist, collector, educator, manager, who discovered the riches and peculiar beauty of the Urals to Russia and the world – a significant personality for the entire Ural region, including the Perm Territory. His exhibition “Urals in Painting”, held in Perm on December 1900, became the first art exhibition for the city. It had a great resonance, contributed to the awakening of interest among Permians in fine art, in the subject of the Urals, prompted the organization of the first amateur fine art studio, pushed a few amateurs to collect, including his works.

Watercolor “Ural landscape” created on January 4, 1901, during the exhibition. On the reverse side of the watercolor there is an inscription: “To dear Pavel Nikolaevich in gratitude.” Museum of Local Lore, created on the basis of the Scientific and Industrial Museum, in 19In 1925, he handed over the watercolor to an art gallery. Watercolor is extraordinary. It does not have a familiar and recognizable image. The author looks at the world as a research engineer and connoisseur of the Ural subsoil and its landscape. The Urals is shown by the artist as a country of mountains and forests and as a kind of structure where mighty mountains hold a moving balance. Watercolor was the first work of A.K. Denisov-Uralsky in the gallery’s collection, denoting one of the vectors in the acquisition of the Ural art section.

N.N. Serebrennikov (1900-1966), a representative of the first Soviet generation of museum workers, presented an album of 7 color lithographs “Old Moscow” by the artist I.

Mariah Carey’s ex-husband says he’ll have a vasectomy after birth of eighth child

The ex-husband of Mariah Carey said he would do a vasectomy after the birth of the eighth child – Gazeta.Ru | News

Former husband of popular singer Mariah Carey, American actor, comedian, rapper Nick Cannon said in an interview with Daily Pop that he would have a vasectomy after the birth of his eighth child. He had already been to a consultation, where he was told in detail about the surgical sterilization procedure.

“I already had a vasectomy consultation. I am not going to completely populate the Earth, but I definitely look forward to the opportunity to care for and love all my children, ”admitted the artist.

Nick Cannon recently lost his 5 month old son, Zen died of brain cancer he was diagnosed with at birth. For the actor and the mother of the child, Alyssa Scott, what happened was a tragedy, because they hoped that he could be saved. The boy underwent complex brain surgery, but it did not help.

Nick Cannon is currently in a relationship with model Briana Tiesi, they are expecting the birth of a common child, which will be the eighth for the rapper. The artist’s older children, Morocco and Monroe, were born in the comedian’s marriage to Mariah Carey. Together with model Brittany Bell, the actor has a son, Golden, and a daughter, Powerful. From Abby De La Rossa, Nick Cannon’s twins are growing up, the boys Zion and Zillion are 11 months old.

10 children from 5 different women: Mariah Carey’s ex-husband is not going to stop father for the tenth time! The most interesting thing is that the three youngest children were conceived with a difference of a couple of months. Impressed? We, too!

To be honest, we got a little confused when we considered what kind of girl and how many times she got pregnant from a star. Let’s figure it out together.

Nick Cannon

From 2008 to 2016, Nick was married to the famous singer Mariah Carey. In marriage, they had twins: Moroccan son Scott Cannon and daughter Monroe Cannon. Immediately after the divorce, his new passion Nick, model Brittany Bell, became pregnant. In February 2017, son Golden was born, and in December 2020, daughter Powerful was born.

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey with children

Cannon’s summer of 2021 was perhaps much busier than the others. That year, he became a father three times: on June 14, Abby De La Rosa gave birth to twins, who were named Zion Mixolydian Cannon and Zillion Hare “Zillie” Cannon. And on June 23, the star and model Alyssa Scott had a son – he was given the name Zen S. Cannon.

Nick Cannon and Abby De La Rosa with children

Soon a terrible thing happened – five months after the birth, the baby died. Zen died of brain cancer, which he was diagnosed with at birth. For the actor and the mother of the child, Alyssa Scott, what happened was a tragedy, because they hoped that he could be saved. The boy underwent a complex brain operation, but, alas, it did not help.

Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott

It would seem that after this the comedian should slow down, but, as you already understood, Nick simply loves children and is ready to raise the demographic level of the United States at least every day. No matter how much everyone around jokes, the star’s answer is unchanged: “This is not an accident. Believe me, there are many girls who could get pregnant from me, but only those from whom I wanted children were in the position.

At the end of January 2022, the host of the American version of The Mask and America’s Got Talent hinted that he would soon have another heir. Appeared – at the end of July, his new lover, blogger Bre Tisi, announced in her social networks that she had given birth to a boy.

Nick Cannon and Brittany Bell with children

Nick Cannon and Brittany Bell

Despite the loud claims, after the birth of their 8th baby, Nick was going to have a vasectomy. He even went to counseling where he was told in detail about what awaits him: “I’m not going to completely populate the Earth, but I definitely look forward to caring for and loving all my children” .

But if everything was as Cannon said, then now his two ex-girlfriends would hardly be in a position again.

The comedian posted a video on his social networks showing him posing with a pregnant Brittany Bell.

Tarrant County uses pandemic funds to give big boost in child care

Kid News

Students at Meacham Early Education Campus, which serves up to 61 Head Start and Early Head Start families and 47 child care families each school year.

Alley Noodle Bar

The Tarrant County Commissioners Court made a big investment in child care to the tune of $45 million.

The money comes from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), part of a larger $408 million that Tarrant County received in pandemic recovery funds.

On March 1, the commissioners approved a budget on how to spend that $480 million, and $45 million of it was allocated to child care purposes as follows:

  • $2 million to strengthen child care businesses and quality
  • $15 million to stabilize quality child care and increase whole child supports
  • $28 million to expand infant-toddler access and infrastructure for highest need families

To help figure out how to spend all that money wisely, the county found a nonprofit partner and also helped in the formation of a larger committee.

Their partner is Child Care Associates (CCA), a nonprofit founded in 1968 that provides child care services for low-income families in Tarrant County as well as 19 counties in West Texas.

The committee is the Blue Ribbon Action Committee on Child Care, a collaboration between Tarrant County, the city of Fort Worth, and the city of Arlington.

The Blue Ribbon Action Committee consists of business, philanthropic, and community leaders across North Texas who came together in the thick of COVID-19 to try and reimagine child care in Tarrant County. Members include former U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings; Elva LeBlanc, acting chancellor of Tarrant County College; and nonprofit representatives from various foundations.

In a statement, Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley calls it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“The pandemic both highlighted and intensified the need for affordable, high quality child care for families in Tarrant County,” Whitley says. “I’m thrilled that we’re applying these once-in-a-lifetime funds to expand and strengthen the industry, so that more parents have the support they need, and more children have access to transformational childhood development.”

Strengthen Child Care Businesses
The county’s $2 million investment expands $3 million in funding from Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County. This is in addition to $3.4 billion in historic funding from the Texas Workforce Commission to stabilize child care businesses statewide.

The money supports licensed child care providers and offers business coaching to help ensure they invest the funding for long-term success, says Blue Ribbon Action Committee co-chair Rose Bradshaw.

Stabilize Quality Child Care and Whole Child Supports
The county’s $15 million goes towards quality child care, enhancing child care educator salaries, and expands whole child supports to children in these programs. “Whole child” addresses needs outside the classroom such as healthcare and homelessness.

Expand Infant-Toddler Access and Infrastructure for Highest Need Families
The county and Child Care Associates will seek partnerships with municipalities, ISDs, higher education, and other public entities with a goal of doubling the county’s investment of $28 million and adding 50 new infant-toddler classrooms in high need neighborhoods.

Tarrant County Commissioner Roy C. Brooks says that toddlers and infants are a group that can really use the help.

“I am thrilled that Tarrant County and CCA together can expand Early Head Start services for infants and toddlers in some of our highest need neighborhoods,” Brooks says. “The greatest return on investment in education remains largely untapped – providing high quality early education and care services for infants and toddlers of families who need those services

Child Care Associates is one of the largest child development nonprofits in North Texas and has served more than half a million young children over the past 54 years. Through Head Start, Early Head Start and Child Care Management Services, they deliver early education programs to children and families of disadvantaged means, offsetting the high cost of child care for lower-income working families, and increasing the quality of child care delivered across Tarrant County.

90,000 Finnish boxes for babies won the world

  • Vanessa Barford
  • BB-Bi-Bi

”Context”: it will help you understand the events.

Image copyright Finish Baby Box Company

Image caption

Sleeping in a box is much safer for an infant than sleeping with parents

In Finland, every mother-to-be, regardless of her income or marital status, receives a special box from the state with a set of baby essentials.

Set includes rompers, overalls, mittens, nappies and many other baby care items.

However, it turned out that young mothers find use not only for diapers and rompers, but also for the box itself: put a mattress in it and you will get a wonderful crib. nine0097

Moreover, it is believed that Finland’s extremely low infant mortality rate is, at least in part, the result of the use of this very box as a bed in the first months of a child’s life.

The origins of the box

The Finnish government started giving out baby boxes as early as 1938. At first, only poor families could count on them, but gradually, by 1949, they were extended to all sectors of society.

Photo caption,

This is what the contents of a Finnish box looked like in 1949.

Heidi Liesivesi of the Finnish Social Insurance Institute says that at first the main purpose of the boxes was to convince women to get medical help.

“In order to receive a box or a mother’s grant, women had to visit a doctor or a state prenatal clinic before the fourth month of pregnancy,” she says.

Thus, the box not only supplied young mothers with everything they needed, but also taught them to use the services of hospitals and doctors in the country’s then-nascent social medical system. nine0097

In the 1930s, Finland was a rather poor country, and infant mortality was high: 65 out of 1,000 babies died before reaching the age of one. However, this sad statistic began to improve very quickly.

In 2015, the infant mortality rate in Finland is the lowest in the world: 2.3 per 1,000 births.

The triumphal procession of the box

In 2013, the Government of Finland presented such a box to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who were expecting their first child. nine0097

Photo credit, Finnish Baby Box Company

Photo caption,

The three Finnish dads who founded the Finnish Baby Box Company

Shortly after the memorial gift, three young fathers from Finland started shipping boxes all over the world. Their example was followed by two mothers from the USA. Similar companies now exist in Britain and many other countries.

When you think about it, this idea is so simple, and apparently so effective, that many health professionals have adopted it, often with private providers. nine0097

The box is different

The contents of the box often reflect local realities. For example, in South Africa, the box itself is made of plastic, and local mothers use it as a bath, not a bed.

Image copyright, Thula Baba Box

Image caption,

In South Africa the boxes are plastic so they can be used as a bath obstetric clinics in the early stages of pregnancy. nine0097

And, as researchers at the University of Stellenbosch found, the Thula Baba Box, which is what the box is called in South Africa, led women to come to clinics earlier in pregnancy and much more often. As a result, childbirth mortality among HIV-infected women has declined markedly. In addition, cases of HIV transmission from mothers to newborn babies have also decreased.

Two young entrepreneurs, De Villiers and Herzog, are distributing boxes in South Africa. They want this scheme to be adopted by all regions of the country. Currently, only women in labor in the Western Cape receive it. nine0097

Karima Ladhani, a medical student at Harvard University, decided to adapt this idea to South Asia.

Image copyright, Barakat Bundle

Image caption,

The Indian “blessed bundle” must include a blanket and a mosquito net

The first “blessed bundle” in India (as this bundle for newborns is called here) was received by women in a rural hospital in the city Jagadia, Gujarat province.

Gujarati mothers receive, among other things, a kit of medicines and clean linen to prevent infection during and after childbirth, and mosquito nets to protect newborns from malaria. nine0097

The box is useful for everyone

Do not think that boxes are becoming popular only in developing countries.

London’s Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital has begun distributing boxes to pregnant women supplied by US-based Baby Box Co. Doctors of the clinic believe that the main component of the program is the education of pregnant women.

Image copyright, Baby Box Co

Image caption,

Here’s what moms-to-be get at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in London

“We assume that parents-to-be have the money to buy a cradle or basket for their newborns, which is not always the case,” said gynecologist Karen Josh, who organized the distribution of boxes.

She also believes that the box turned into a bed allows the child to be kept in the same room as the parents, but in a separate bed.

Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital plans to distribute about 600 of these boxes to pregnant patients in the coming months. nine0097

American Box

In the United States, several pregnancy assistance programs are being rolled out at the same time. The largest campaign will be launched by the authorities of the city of Fort Worth in Texas.

Photo copyright, Baby Box Co

Photo caption,

As you can see, a Texas baby is quite comfortable in a box. US average – 5.9.

In the next two years, the city’s hospitals plan to distribute about 36,000 boxes. Health officials hope this will encourage parents not to take newborns to bed with them, which often leads to accidental death.

“We realized that most of our residents just don’t know how big of a problem infant mortality is. We want to give this box to every newborn so that every baby has a safe place to sleep,” said doctor Diane Daly. nine0097

She added that parents often take their children to bed with them, and sometimes, unfortunately, children die from suffocation.

A box for an oilman’s wife

In the Canadian province of Alberta, the idea was initially to distribute boxes exclusively to low-income families. However, it soon became clear that there were not so many poor people in Alberta rich in oil and gas.

The problem is that many men are employed in the oil industry and are often away for weeks or months, leaving the young mother alone with her newborn, often without the slightest idea of what can and cannot be done. nine0097

Image copyright Baby Box Co

Image caption

Dowry box from Canada. Along with the box, moms also receive a “mentor” phone number

Boxes in Alberta are linked to a mentor program. Each mother, along with the box, also receives a mentor’s phone number, whom she can call at any time (but not more than 20 times) from the 32nd week of pregnancy until the day when the baby is six months old.

Another problem is that many family members or friends of the mother of the newborn see that she is doing something wrong, but prefer not to interfere. The government wants to change this. nine0097

This program is still at the very beginning, and to date, about 50 mothers have received boxes with phone numbers, but another 1500 are on the waiting list.

Baby repair manual

Image caption

In Canada, fathers are also taught how to care for their babies

Another new addition to the Canadian box is a special brochure on newborn care, designed exclusively for newborns fathers. It is written in the image and likeness of a car repair manual. Here, for example, with what words the instruction for burping after feeding begins: “We all know how nice it is to burp sometimes.” nine0097

The pamphlet reminds fathers of the importance of supplying their babies with “fuel” – mother’s milk – and advises them to “look under the hood” (change diapers) more often. “It is very important to keep a new car in order, clean and comfortable,” the authors advise young fathers.

The Finnish government is well aware of the popularity of their newborn boxes and often organizes special presentations at embassies around the world.

The box is not a panacea

Photo copyright, Milla Kontkannen

Photo caption,

A box is good, but knowing how to take care of a baby is still more important

It should be noted that not everyone considers a box a cure for all ills.

Undergraduate and Graduate parents must be registered for a minimum of 1 class as a degree seeking student. Students receiving tuition waivers as part of an assistantship are classified as students. Childcare Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS Grant)

The CCAMPIS grant is a federal grant that supports the participation of low-income parents in post-secondary education through the provision of campus-based child care services. This grant allows campus-based childcare programs to offer reduced and sliding scale rates for Pell Grant eligible/recipient students and military-connected student parents, as well as additional childcare tuition discounts to low-income graduate student parents. More information on the CCAMPIS Grant: https://www2.ed.gov/programs/campisp/index.html.

To receive the Pell Grant student parent rates, the parent must be eligible to receive or be receiving Pell Grant funds. To receive the Military connected student parent rate, the student must be in veteran or active duty status or have a spouse in veteran or active duty status.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for child care if my child is not born yet?

Yes, you can apply as soon as you are pregnant and have a due date.

Do you accept applications from FSU staff and faculty?

Yes. The application process is the same for students, faculty and staff.

Do you accept applications from parents who are not affiliated with FSU?

Yes. The wait for a space is typically much longer for Alumni and Community members since FSU students, faculty and staff take priority for any space that becomes available.

Am I eligible for the student status if I am enrolled at another college?

No, only FSU students are eligible for the student status and thus the student tuition rate.

How do I enroll my child?

The first step is to fill out the application completely and submit it to us. Once your fully completed application is received in our office, your child is then placed on a waiting list. When a space becomes available for which your child is eligible you will receive an e–mail notification about the opening and procedures for accepting a space.

How long does my application stay on file?

The waiting list is updated in May of each year. An e–mail is sent to all parents who have a child on the waiting list. Unless we receive a confirming response (that is, the parent tells us that they do want to stay on the waiting list), the child is removed. It is important for parents to make sure that our records reflect a valid and current e–mail address so that there are no upsets because we did not get a confirming response or have an in–valid e–mail address.

Do you have part–time spaces?

No. We have only full–time spaces.

Are you open during semester breaks?

The center operates on the Universities schedule and is open when classes are in session. The center does offer 1 week of Semester Break Care (for an addition fee) between Spring and Summer Semester, and the week following the Summer and Fall semesters. Semester Break Care requires pre-registration.

What hours are you open?

The centers are open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. when FSU Classes are in session.

Can I tour the center before my child enrolls?

Yes. We encourage you and your child to visit the center before the first day. Contact the director of the center that your child will be enrolled to arrange a mutually convenient time. The tours usually take about one–half hour.

Do you provide food for the children who are enrolled?

Yes. The children are provided with a breakfast, a hot lunch, and an afternoon snack.

Can I visit my enrolled child during operating hours?

Yes. We encourage parent involvement in the activities of the center.

What is your policy about sick children?

If children get sick while attending the center, parents are called to pick up their children so that they can be cared for at home. We do not have the capability or facilities to care for sick children.

What is the ratio of teachers to children?

Since our center is accredited by NAEYC, we follow their guidelines.

  • Infants – no more than 8 children in a group, with 2 teaching staff
  • Toddlers – no more than 12 children in a group, with 2 teaching staff
  • 4-5 year-olds – no more than 20 children in a group, with 2 teaching staff

If I want to withdraw my child, how much notice must I give?

A thirty day notice is required.

Can you accommodate my child if they do not speak English?

Yes. FSU Childcare & Early Learning Programs has a long history of welcoming children whose first language is not English.

Do you offer a VPK program?

No. Parents wishing to enroll their child in a VPK program in Leon County should contact the Early Learning Coalition at http://www.elcbigbend.org/Parents/Voluntary-PreKindergarten-VPK.

Once a withdrawal form has been submitted, changes to an earlier date will not be accepted. Childcare, Preschool & Daycare Tuition & Costs

Find Location

How much does daycare cost?

Childcare costs vary. The best way to get tuition information is to speak with the Center Director of the school you’re interested in attending. Your Director can walk you through our childcare programs and care options, and answer all your questions.

Factors Impacting Tuition Costs

  • Rates vary by region, city and school.
  • Your child’s age, and the programs you’re interested in.
  • Number of days, and the number of hours per day you need care.

Tuition is All-Inclusive

  • Fresh breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. Meals are prepared on-site daily.
  • All curriculum instruction, consumables, and activities.
  • Spanish, sign language, and literacy programs.
  • School-age program tuition includes transportation from school to the center each afternoon. Both before-school and after-school care are available at most locations.

Stimulus 2021 | Childcare Assistance & Tax Credits

The recently passed American Rescue Plan Act made several changes to the 2021 childcare tax credit, temporarily expanding the rules around who is eligible for the credit, how much the credit pays and when. We want you to be aware of these opportunities, as they may help your family!

  • For 2021, the child tax credit increases to $3,600 per child under age 6, and $3,000 per child aged 6 to 17. Prior to this legislation, the tax credit was up to $2,000 per child (ages 0-16).
  • Half of this credit can be sent to qualifying taxpayers in the form of direct cash payments from July to December 2021. The other half will be available when they file their tax return in 2022.

Eligibility for benefits is dependent upon your personal tax situation, including your adjusted gross income and tax filing status. Please contact a tax professional for more detailed information.

Childcare Tuition Discounts

Families with more than one child enrolled full-time may receive a multi-child discount. Please check with your Center Director for more details.

Tuition discount offers may not be combined, and are not applicable to other programs under The Sunshine House umbrella of companies.

Financial Aid for Childcare

Most Sunshine House schools accept families participating in the subsidized childcare assistance program. If you think you may be eligible to receive childcare assistance, please apply for services through your participating state agency. If you are approved, you will receive a childcare voucher from your agency with instructions.

Comparison of Piaget, Vygotsky, Montessori on Early Childhood Education Theories

Piaget’s Stages of Cognitive Development

Jean Piaget, a Swiss psychologist, developed several key concepts. First, “schemas” involve the physical and mental actions in learning, understanding, and knowing. Schemas involve anything a child is learning about. If the child’s family has a cat, they develop a schema about felines: small, fluffy, cute, makes purring sounds.

If the child goes to the zoo with their family and they see the tigers’ cage, they may be surprised at the size of those cats. This forces them to modify an existing schema about cats. Now, they need to add new information about the large size of tigers and lions. Mentally, they will modify that previous schema so they can easily include the new information.

Next, Piaget said that children who are adding new information to a schema are assimilating that information. Children try to modify information or their experiences so that they fit into beliefs they already hold.

Next, they attempt to create a comfortable balance between assimilation and accommodation, using a process called equilibration. As children move through each stage of cognitive development, they work at keeping that balance between using new knowledge and changing their behavior/schema to account for new knowledge they have learned (assimilation and accommodation). By using equilibration, children can progress more easily from one developmental stage of thought and into the next one.

Vygotsky’s Theory of Social Development

Vygotsky’s theory differs a little because he says that social interaction has a strong influence on how children develop cognitively. Children rely on people or devices with knowledge they don’t yet have.

The adult, more experienced peer, or (in today’s world) an electronic learning device is referred to as the More Knowledgeable Other or MKO. A teen or adult child can be an MKO to an adult who wants to learn something new about teen culture or a new electronic device.

Learners work within a Zone of Proximal Development or ZPD. This zone consists of three circles, with 2 inside the outermost circle. Within the smallest, interior circle, is what the child already knows. The next, larger circle contains information that the child still doesn’t know but is capable of learning with assistance from an MKO. The largest, exterior circle consists of information, skills, or knowledge that the child can’t yet learn, even with help.

Vygotsky believed that the MKO should teach the learner only what is within reach, in the zone of proximal development, with guidance and encouragement. The MKO demonstrates the new skill, then begins to guide the child through each step, and then the student can progress to more complicated skills that were previously out of range for them.

Montessori Theory of Education and Learning

After Montessori was able to successfully treat mentally disabled children who were thought to be impossible to educate, she decided she wanted to determine the potential of regular children who had no problems learning.

Working with children living in the San Lorenz slum, she developed her own theory, which is based on Periods of Development. She proposed the idea of Conducive Learning, where children were grouped based on periods of development. Children are grouped in three-year or six-year spans and work with the same teacher during this period.

The youngest group (Nido) is aged 0 to 1, or until the child is walking. The second group is the Infant Community, aged 1 to about 2 and a half or three. Group three is the “Casa dei Bambini,” aged 2.5 or 3 to 6.

Group four covers a wider age range, from 6 to 12. The children in this group have the same learning habits and tendencies. Their emotional and physical growth tends to be steadier, and their intellectual work is strong. In this group, the younger children are inspired by and learn from the older children. Finally, the next grouping is 12 to 15-year-olds. Montessori proposed a farm school for this age group, giving the children real farm work to do.

Stages vs. Planes of Development

Piaget based his theory on what he saw as a child’s stages of development. These included:

  • Sensorimotor, from birth to 2 years. They use their senses to learn about the world.
  • Preoperational Period, from 2 to 7 years. They learn and develop language and learning skills, but are self-centered, and can’t understand abstract reasoning or logic.
  • Concrete Operational Period, from 7 to 11 years. Now they think logically and organize their knowledge. They classify objects and work on thought problems.
  • Formal Operations Period, 11 to 15. The child starts reasoning more realistically about their future and deals better with abstractions.

Montessori worked using her own Planes of Development. These included:

  • Birth to 3 years: An absorbent mind, learning from the sensory
  • 18 months to 3 years: Begins muscle development and working on coordination – Likes smaller objects
  • 2 to 4 years: Refines movements – Focuses on truth and reality – Develops awareness of order sequences in time and space
  • 2.5 to 6 years: Sensory refinement
  • 3 to 6 years: Becoming susceptible to adult influence
  • 3.5 to 4.5 years: Works on writing
  • 4 to 4. 4 years: Tactile senses begin to mature
  • 4.5 to 5.5 years: Works on reading

Piaget vs. Vygotsky

Piaget didn’t spend much time thinking about a child’s social context. Instead, he believed that their cognitive development revolves around changes in the cognitive process and the child’s abilities. Early cognitive development uses processes based on actions, then progresses to changes in mental operations.

He used schemas or categorization to explain how children learn, using both the physical and mental in learning. Within schemas, assimilation and accommodation also take place. Children also place already-known information with newly learned information in a process called equilibration. In his theory of child and human development babies, toddlers, preschoolers, children, teens, and young adults progress through four stages of learning and development. He said that the early cognitive development of a child involves processes that are based on actions. This development then progresses into changes in mental operations.

Vygotsky believed that social interactions have a big influence on the development of cognition. He also felt that the community surrounding a child holds a role in how children make meaning out of everything they see, learn, feel, and hear.

He introduced the More Knowledgeable Other as a source of experience and learning for a child. This MKO can be a parent, teacher, or relative of the child. This person can also be a younger child or teen who teaches an older adult or family friend about using electronics or learning a new dance, for instance.

Next, he introduced the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) in where the most sensitive guidance should be provided, allowing the child to learn by practicing.

What Do They have in Common?

Between Piaget and Montessori, both psychologists believe that young children begin to work on the refinement of their movements early. At 3.5 to 7 years (covering the developmental periods for both professionals), children begin to develop drawing and writing skills.

While Vygotsky didn’t divide child development into age groups, he did believe that a child could progress to this stage if that was what was culturally expected of him. If the majority of children in a certain age group know a certain skill, then one of them, or a teacher-figure, will act as the MKO for that child and he will inevitably also learn that skill.

In all three theories, the psychologists say that every child begins to learn about their world by using their senses. Vygotsky calls it “making meaning.” Piaget says that children obtain knowledge or their environment through the five senses.

Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) is similar to Montessori’s Planes of Development and Piaget gives each developmental stage a name (sensorimotor, preoperational, formal operations).

Likewise, Vygotsky’s ZPD has an outer ring that denotes all the information that a child is not yet ready to learn. Montessori’s planes of development show that some learning may be out of reach of children at various stages. Piaget does the same thing, noting that there are things children can’t learn until they reach a certain cognitive level.

How These Theories Manifest in the Classroom

Children are social creatures. When they start school, they are one of 20 or more other students who are ready to begin formal learning.

Montessori created a model for learning that is known the world over. Montessori-based schools exist in most communities around the world. Individual classrooms and teachers in a Montessori school don’t teach traditionally. Instead, they are based on conducive learning, with multi-aged groups. The teacher doesn’t actively teach the entire classroom. Instead, they have a more generalized lesson plan. They introduce children to a concept using a book, lesson, or lecture. As the children learn, individually and with older children, they process the information, then “know” the knowledge and demonstrate this by passing a test, completing a project, expressing what they have learned, or by teaching another student.

Montessori said that children are always learning something new, which prepares them to learn another new thing. This is indirect learning. The entire class isn’t learning the same thing as classmates; they are working at their own pace, using the environment, and working with other classmates. The teacher teaches one child at a time. All areas of study link together and students can work on them in the order they choose.

In Piaget’s theory, assimilation, accommodation, and equilibration all work in a classroom setting. Children learn something new in the primary grades; as they progress grade by grade, they encounter the same information at a higher level of difficulty.

Vygotsky’s theory relies much more on the social interactions between children, adults, and society in general. Because of the social networks between children and their families, children can go to someone they know to ask for help in learning something new.

Constructivism Explained

“Constructivism” is a learning theory that says humans construct their knowledge using hands-on experience rather than being taught abstract concepts from books. The teacher who uses constructivism in teaching students does everything they can to give students hands-on experiences, using people and objects. The teacher also asks students to use any skills they have already learned.

It’s a constructivist learning process to use materials to learn about assembly lines and what working conditions were like when assembly lines were most in use.

When the teacher has students use wrapping paper to determine whether it’s sufficient to wrap two cans, students put together a mathematical formula to determine a cylinder’s area.

It’s also constructivist to have students read persuasive articles, decide which of the articles have features that make them the most effective, and then create a rubric that includes all of those qualities for their own persuasive papers. Once they have written their reports out, they will be assigned to read more persuasive papers so they can fine-tune their criteria even more.

Maria Montessori was a constructivist. She wrote, “Education is not something which the teacher does, but a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being. It is not acquired by listening to words but in virtue of experiences in which the child acts on his environment.”

Lev Vygotsky was another constructivist. He wrote, “A child’s play is not simply a reproduction of what he has experienced, but a creative reworking of the impressions he has acquired. He combines them and uses them to construct a new reality.”

Jean Piaget was also a constructivist and said, “Each time one prematurely teaches a child something he could have discovered himself, that child is kept from inventing it and consequently from understanding it completely.”

Maria Montessori and the Montessori Method

Dr Maria Montessori (1870 – 1952) revolutionised early year’s education for children. She innovated and revolutionised the way we see the classroom and think about how children learn and develop. It was Montessori who understood how important it was to provide a secure, ordered, creative and happy environment for the child to develop at their own pace. Her approach was to stimulate the child to learn through activity and play in the classroom using her unique apparatus to heighten awareness and to encourage their natural curiosity.

What makes a Montessori classroom so special and unique is that all the materials are at the child’s height and easily accessible. They are clean and uncluttered, with no distractions for the eye. In a Montessori classroom children walk about freely seeking activities, each child concentrates on a different task yet the whole group presents the appearance of perfect discipline. The classes are vertically grouped, mixed ages, so that the younger children learn from their elders and vice versa. The children learn through real experiences in a natural environment. In essence a Montessori classroom should be a home away from home full of interesting things to do and explore.

The role of the teachers is to act as directresses, first preparing an inviting, stimulating a safe environment and then guiding the children to learning opportunities and showing them ways of completing individual tasks, but ultimately the children learn and find out for themselves how to complete a chosen activity. As, we don’t all think and operate in our environment in the same way, we have all found unique ways to undertake everyday tasks. Children learn by doing and by providing children with the tools and opportunities to learn, their confidence and self-esteem will blossom.

Montessori designed resources which foster independence and a love for learning from a young age. These activities are naturally made or are as real to life as possible. If you walk around the classrooms you will see small jugs, funnels, sieves etc which the children practice pouring, transferring and other essential life skills.

It is only appropriate that Ladbroke Square Montessori School celebrate being the 100th Montessori school in the UK to be accredited by the Montessori Board, in 2011.

Hello. If I’m not mistaken, Mrs. Montessori opened a school for children with disabilities. Why the Montessori Center and not, for example, the Vygodsky Center? Thank you
Author: Natalia

Reply. Indeed, Maria Montessori began her work with children with disabilities or, as they were then called, idiots. After the triumph at the Roman School Olympics at 19In the year 00, when in writing and reading her children overtook normal, medically healthy children, she concluded that if this is possible, then this means that something is being done wrong with the so-called normal children, they are somehow not being taught. Since that time, all her activities have been connected with medically healthy children. I note, by the way, that no one expresses doubts about the effectiveness of L.V. Zankov, on the grounds that its author worked for a long time at the Defetological Institute and was even its director. But back to M. Montessori. Based on the ideas of experimental psychology, Montessori explores the child and creates his own environmental pedagogy. She works closely with J. Piaget, but Montessori does not become, say, an employee of Piaget’s laboratory, but Piaget becomes the chairman of the Montessori Society of Geneva. nine0010
The comparison given in the book by G. Dryden and J. Vos “Revolution in Education” (M. 2003) shows that, thanks to the Montessori environmental approach, it is possible to accelerate the intellectual development of a preschool child, in comparison with the theoretical guidelines given by Piaget. And although in my opinion this comparison is not very correct for two reasons. First, the pace and limits of the development of a child of preschool age are individual, and therefore different. Secondly, Piaget described spontaneous development not supported by specially organized developmental activities, namely the creation of special stimulus material and the organization of free work with it, and M. Montessori’s system differs from all others. Nevertheless, you did not mention the name of Piaget, but the name of another outstanding psychologist, L. S. Vygotsky. At 19In 1994, the conference “Vygotsky and Montessori” was held in the Netherlands. This is no coincidence. Unfortunately, I myself was not in the Gomel long-closed archive of L.S. Vygotsky, but my Belarusian colleagues found there notebooks with notes of Vygotsky’s impressions from visiting Europe in the early 20s. He got acquainted with pedagogical innovations. A significant part of his notes is devoted to the Montessori system. I note that the positions of Vygotsky and Montessori on a number of issues are remarkably close. In particular, this concerns the attitude to children’s creativity. Interesting and something else. It is difficult for me to name another pedagogical system, except for the Montessori system, where Vygotsky’s idea of introducing the child into the zone of proximal development is used so purely. After all, this idea does not work well in any class-lesson system, because with frontal work, the teacher does not have the opportunity to monitor the introduction of each child into the zone of proximal development. In a Montessori class during an individual short lesson, this is not only possible, but exactly what is done. Nevertheless, it was Montessori, not Vygotsky, who figured out how to implement this idea of an outstanding psychologist and some other ideas of other equally outstanding psychologists and physiologists of his time. I note in conclusion that in our USSR since 19In 1988, the concept of a developing environment for children of preschool and primary school age was developed. It had a wonderful theoretical justification, by the way, absolutely true for the Montessori system, but in practice everything was not very good. My version is that if, as the authors of this concept argued, activity builds the psyche, then this activity should be as clearly defined as it is defined by the environment and stimulus materials that M. Montessori proposed.

What are the conceptual provisions of this system? nine0010 Author: Khusainova Gulnaz Il

In short, the meaning of M. Montessori’s system can be defined as “the free work of children in a specially prepared environment. ” The Montessori school is sometimes referred to as a free school, but unlike J. J. Rousseau, who was a supporter of the natural, spontaneous upbringing of the child in nature, Montessori, recognizing the spontaneity of the child’s development and the guilt of adults for distorting their “internal directive”, their “cosmic task “, proposes to create special conditions for the development of the child, a special cultured environment that leads to socialization. The role of an adult in this environment is not to shape the child in favor of political and social prejudices, but to provide him with “developmental assistance”, that is, to allow him to fulfill himself in some cultural framework. Montessori invites us to go from the child, studying him and observing him. Speaking about the freedom of the child, M. Montessori understands it as the development of independence, first in self-service within the framework of simple everyday operations, and then independence of thinking. For her, freedom is not permissiveness, but the opportunity not to become like everyone else, not to get upset in the general mass and, in the end, to fulfill oneself by fulfilling one’s “cosmic task”. This understanding is close to the positions expressed by E. Fromm in the famous “Escape from Freedom”. The listed ideas in the pedagogy of M. Montessori are supported by fairly well-developed methods. I already wrote about some of them in the previous answer, but I must note that serious attention is paid to the training of a teacher in the M. Montessori system. In particular, our Center under the auspices of the AMI Association, created by Montessori in 1929 year.

Knowledge of Montessori pedagogy will be useful to modern parents

The theory of an outstanding teacher is built on the characteristics of children’s physiology and psyche

How many small objects, toys and games designed for the successful development and upbringing of kids seem unremarkable, even ordinary things to us. We come to the store, buy cubes, buckets, spatulas, mosaics, and for some reason have not doubted their usefulness for a long time. But someone has been developing the world of children’s toys for a long time, inventing, studying the addictions of preschoolers, planning the most favorable environment for the life and activities of children. The name of Maria Montessori not only entered the history of pedagogy, but the work of her whole life continues to live and develop to this day. Today we decided to acquaint readers with the peculiarity of her program, tell about what didactic material the founder of this method recommends, and also tell you how to create a miniature Montessori center at home. nine0008

How Montessori pedagogy appeared

The Montessori system was not built in one day. It was created by the first Italian female pediatrician, Maria Montessori, in close collaboration with the founder of genetic psychology, Jean Piaget, and Freud’s daughter, child psychologist Anna Freud. Maria decided to take up pedagogy in those days when she began medical practice at a university clinic where children with disabilities were treated. The newly minted Aesculapius had to watch a picture of how, after dinner, unoccupied children crawled on the floor, collected crumbs and sculpted balls from them. What-no, but a game. No one was involved in their development, no one helped to fill the children’s leisure time. Montessori concluded that dementia is more a pedagogical problem than a medical one, and it should be solved not in hospitals and clinics, but in kindergartens and schools. nine0008

The doctor actively began to work on didactic (developing) material for both lagging and healthy children and developed a unique method of teaching writing and reading.

On what pillars the famous model of raising children rests

Kindergarten teachers in the process of training take a course of familiarization with the program of an Italian scientist, so we decided to contact Olesya Simchuk, a teacher of the middle group of kindergarten 51, who willingly uses Montessori techniques in your work. nine0008

— Interest is the first thing that the founder of the theory highlights in her pedagogy. The second is an individual approach,” says a kindergarten employee. The third is a high stake on the sensory development of children.

This approach lies in the fact that each child is allowed to do what he wants at this moment, because only he himself knows exactly what he needs to develop right now. Although there are some guidelines here. So, M. Montessori drew attention, and modern psychology confirmed that a child from the moment of birth and up to 6 years has periods (lasting a year, three years) when he most easily and naturally learns certain things. We have already called these periods sensitive in our articles. So, from birth to 6 years, the development of speech goes through several stages, and up to 5.5 years – sensory development (development of the organs of vision, hearing, smell, tactile sensations). On average, from 2.5 years to 6 years, the baby develops and consolidates social skills. At this time, children easily perceive forms of polite or rude behavior that become the norms of their lives. nine0008

Why the first schools with the Italian doctor’s program were closed in our country

Montessori groups brought up free, independent thinking people. In countries with a totalitarian regime, democratic pedagogy, which nurtured a free, creative generation, did not take root in any way. Most kindergartens in our country continue to operate according to the standard curriculum, and no reform in preschool education is expected. While attending a parent meeting recently, I, the author of the article, witnessed the dissatisfaction of some parents with the fact that for the summer all children will be united and there will be several groups of different ages. Parents were worried that the older children, communicating with the kids, would forget everything they had learned in a year. nine0008

Modern fathers and mothers would know that children teach other children better, and by teaching they themselves hone their knowledge, skills and abilities. And in our adult life, we communicate with those who are older than us, and with those who are younger. For example, Maria Montessori noticed this almost 100 years ago and filled her classes with children of different ages, highlighting two groups. In the first, she recommended that children be engaged from 3 to 6 years old, in the second – from 6 to 12. A number of studies have confirmed the fact that up to six years a child builds his mind, and after six he actively masters culture. nine0008

Montessori pedagogy returned to Russia in 1992. A Montessori Center has been opened in Moscow, which trains preschool teachers. Established contacts with AMI. In Irkutsk, according to the head of the department of preschool education, Galina Alexandrovna Itskova, there are no preschool institutions that implement the program of Maria Montessori in its pure form, and state kindergartens use only a number of elements.

“Private boarding houses, kindergartens and centers often claim to be Maria Montessori when they attract clients,” explains an official from the Department of Education. “However, this is just a publicity stunt for Irkutsk entrepreneurs. nine0008

We develop physical qualities: dexterity, flexibility, speed, coordination of movements

There will be no full mental development without physical development. The child has a lot of energy that should be directed in the right direction. Therefore, it is recommended that every kid at home equip a sports corner with swings, ladders, bars, swords, rings, slides. Prepare hard and soft mats for kids to play. Which rug is especially pleasant for a child to be on – let him crawl on them naked. Make a tactile path yourself (in one area – pieces of fabric that are different to the touch, on the other – flat buttons, massage devices). Usually children crawl on it with pleasure on their stomachs, on all fours, and run barefoot. Draw a line at home on the floor to coordinate movements and invite the child to walk along it barefoot, in shoes, on socks, with objects in their hands, while not stepping over the line. nine0008

Adults can make low bean bags and tumbling mats that children will finally be allowed to jump on. The sports corner can be filled with other attributes – balls of various sizes, bags weighing 1-3 kilograms, a hoop.

How to form a child’s skills for everyday life

In addition to sports items, we advise you to prepare things for your child to develop skills in practical life. In order for the child to know where his clothes are hanging, to be able to hang them up, undress, dress and put on shoes on their own, he needs to build a clothes hanger and a shoe rack in accordance with his height. Next to these things it is necessary to place a brush and a cloth for cleaning shoes in cases. In addition to the sports corner, the child simply needs his own workplace – a table and a chair. nine0008

Mom diversifies the baby’s games if she builds with her own hands a basket or a box with wallets, pockets with various fasteners (on one product – a zipper, on the second – a button, on the third – Velcro, a button, a ribbon, and so on). Children examine wallets with special interest, put objects in them, unfasten and fasten them. Children are very interested in looking at themselves in the mirror. And if he is also given a comb, then he will immediately begin to put in order not only himself, but also mom and dad. From the point of view of children, this activity is quite fascinating and develops the ability to handle objects, teaches them to be independent and accurate. nine0008

In addition to a comb and a mirror, the child should be provided with a towel and soap that will be at the level of his height, so that he can use them at any time. Prepare for children’s games a bag of grain, a spoon, two bowls and two containers. The child learns to carefully shift the grain with a spoon from one cup to another, pour it from one vessel to another. After such manipulations, the baby will be able to impeccably, unlike his peers, add granulated sugar to his mug of tea. What a pleasant feeling a child gets when he puts his pen in a bag of grain! He is pleased to hear the sound of falling grains. nine0008

For the successful development of boys and girls, it is necessary to have a lot of vessels, watering cans, spatulas, molds for playing with natural materials. The child carefully pours water from a jug into a jug, from a jug into glasses, from a teapot into a mug. Adults do not understand what emotions a child experiences when immersing a sponge in a basin of water. So he pressed it, and some water ran through his hands. The kid, imitating his mother, tries to wipe or wash the table with a sponge.

Fine motor skills development

Why should children develop their hands and fingers? By developing fine motor skills in children, we activate not only the coordination center of the fingers in the cerebral cortex, but also influence the nearby speech center. Human thinking, his mental activity is closely connected with the development of speech. The way a person speaks, the way he thinks, and the way he thinks. For the development of the hand, fine motor skills of children, make a basket or simply beautifully sheathe an ordinary box with a fabric and fill it with small soft toys. The child will be happy to feel them, remember the colors, name them. nine0008

Why do we recommend making baskets, cases or boxes for all items? The fact is that the Montessori method calls for accustoming children to order. It is impossible not to say about the short period of perception of order (from birth to 3 years). It actually determines the relationship of the baby with the world, because it concerns not only the order in the environment, but also in time (the child’s internal clock starts), as well as in interactions with adults. Parents and teachers create order in those things that are necessary for the development of the child, and there are a lot of them. All these cups, trays, sponges and brushes, as well as sticks and cubes, beads and rods, cards and boxes, if put in disorder, can only cause a feeling of powerlessness before the chaos of the world. nine0008

For the development of fine motor skills, it is proposed to pick up large wooden beads: unpainted polished wood of various shapes (balls, prisms, pyramids, cubes, and others) and primary colors. The child will diligently and with genuine interest learn to string beads. It is very easy to prepare a basket for leisure, along the edges of which there are clothespins. Let the children independently remove and attach the clothespins to the edge of the basket. Dads will also help you choose the developing material, having made, in addition to wooden beads, wooden carnations with a hammer. At first the child will hit them unconsciously, and then unmistakably. All these simple exercises improve coordination of movements according to the principle of the eyes: hand, form voluntary attention, logical thinking. nine0008

Now the store is full of large and small cups, which are made like nesting dolls. Children learn to independently disassemble inset cups, fold correctly (by trial and error), build turrets, and line up in size.

Developing sensing at home – sensory perception and sensations

It is also useful to pay great attention to the organs of hearing, sight, smell and tactile perception. To do this, you will need musical instruments (tambourines, metallophones, pipes, drums), objects that are different to the touch and smell of the substance. It is advised for kids to sew colorful bags and fill them with different materials: sand, rice, peas, pebbles, dry leaves, straws, balls. Let the children describe their feelings to their parents. Sew buttons of different sizes onto the fabric and make fasteners or eyelets for them. You can come up with exciting games with multi-colored shoelaces, with different-to-touch fabrics, paper, objects (smooth, rough, cold, warm, wet, dry). nine0008

Adults can make unpretentious boxes with different smells (coffee, perfume, garlic, lemon, chocolate) – just enough imagination, and let the child guess with closed eyes what this aroma belongs to. If a child is introduced to letters, then it is best to make them from rough paper pasted on planks. By tracing them with a finger, the future student remembers not only the letter itself, but also how to write it.
