Gallery history

The works donated to the collection by the founders of the museum are not always masterpieces of fine art, but they always have a special meaning in the history of the museum. Gifts acquire the status of a historical document, become evidence of the interests, tastes and demands of the time, characterize ongoing events, often not only on the scale of a museum or their region. nine0005 A.K. Museum and public figure Pavel Nikolaevich Serebrennikov (1849-1917) donated to his favorite brainchild – the Perm Scientific and Industrial Museum – a watercolor “Ural Landscape” by artist A.K. Denisov-Uralsky. A native of Yekaterinburg A.K. Denisov-Uralsky (1864-1926) – painter, stone cutter, mineralogist, collector, educator, manager, who discovered the riches and peculiar beauty of the Urals to Russia and the world – a significant personality for the entire Ural region, including the Perm Territory. His exhibition “Urals in Painting”, held in Perm on December 1900, became the first art exhibition for the city. It had a great resonance, contributed to the awakening of interest among Permians in fine art, in the subject of the Urals, prompted the organization of the first amateur fine art studio, pushed a few amateurs to collect, including his works.

Watercolor “Ural landscape” created on January 4, 1901, during the exhibition. On the reverse side of the watercolor there is an inscription: “To dear Pavel Nikolaevich in gratitude.” Museum of Local Lore, created on the basis of the Scientific and Industrial Museum, in 19In 1925, he handed over the watercolor to an art gallery. Watercolor is extraordinary. It does not have a familiar and recognizable image. The author looks at the world as a research engineer and connoisseur of the Ural subsoil and its landscape. The Urals is shown by the artist as a country of mountains and forests and as a kind of structure where mighty mountains hold a moving balance. Watercolor was the first work of A.K. Denisov-Uralsky in the gallery’s collection, denoting one of the vectors in the acquisition of the Ural art section.

N.N. Serebrennikov (1900-1966), a representative of the first Soviet generation of museum workers, presented an album of 7 color lithographs “Old Moscow” by the artist I.
