  • how to fly with a child under one year old

Think about affordable food and cleaning. If the weather deteriorates or the baby feels unwell, he will have to spend several days in his room without getting out.

    Full board

I booked full board at the hotel – breakfast, lunch and dinner. Later, I stocked up on food and drinking water for a week.

While we were in Krasnaya Polyana, the downpour did not stop for two days: clothes, shoes and a stroller got wet in a few minutes. It was difficult to get to the nearest cafe. The restaurant at the hotel, food delivery and a refrigerator filled on time helped out.

Study the landscape. Call the hotel or the landlord and let him tell you if it is convenient to walk around the neighborhood with a stroller. Check if the building is equipped with ramps and an elevator.

Find the desired address on Google Maps and wander around in street view.

Cool apartments in Santorini. But it will be sad here with a stroller: narrow stairs and no ramps. My hotel in the Rosa Khutor resort. Everything is fine here: smooth paths, there are detours

Hilly terrain is hardly suitable. When there are a lot of stairs, you can’t walk with a stroller.

Find out how your accommodation is arranged

In a hotel you need extra comfort:

Balcony. They put a stroller there to save space in the room. Even on the balcony it is convenient to walk with the baby if you don’t want to go down to the street: babies sleep better in the fresh air.

Bath. You can’t bathe a child in a shower, but in a bath – easily.

Baby cot. If there is no crib, the baby will have to sleep in the stroller. This is inconvenient: the stroller can get wet from the rain, and there will be nowhere to shift the baby.

Kettle. The teapot is ideal for sterilizing baby bottles and pacifiers. Without boiling, microbes start up in them, and the child can get sick.

It is more convenient to decide everything in advance, by phone or in a letter. Ask like this:

    Hello!

I have booked a room in your hotel from 12 March to 1 April. I am coming with my daughter, she is three months old. I want to clarify a few details in advance.

    1. I will be glad if you find a room with a balcony for me. I’ll put a baby carriage on it.

    2. Can you put a baby cot in my room?

    3. I saw that there was a mini-bar in the room. Please remove alcohol from the refrigerator. I’m going to store food in it.

    4. Can you find an electric kettle for me?

On my trip, I lived in four hotels, and in each of them mothers with a baby were given a double room with separate beds. This made up for the lack of cribs.

Two hotels did not have a kettle, one did not have a bath. Another hotel did not have a ramp and the stroller had to be manually lifted and lowered down the stairs. Together with the child, the stroller weighed 20 kilograms, and there were eight steps.

Next time I will arrange everything in advance or choose other hotels.

List of amenities in a Montenegrin apartment from Airbnb. There is no elevator in the house, and the apartment is on the second floor. It is better to look for another

Children under 2-3 years old stay in hotels for free. Abroad, the child will be settled on a passport, in Russia they will require a birth certificate.

    Obtain travel cancellation insurance

Travel cancellation insurance will come in handy if the baby has a fever on the eve of departure or the parents are denied a visa.

Clients of Russian tour operators are insured against non-departure by Alliance, ERV Travel Insurance, VSK and Rosgosstrakh. Typically, such insurance can be issued within 3-5 days after the confirmation of the tour. If less than 10-14 days are left before departure, you cannot buy insurance.

The cost of insurance depends on the operator. Anex Tour, Coral, Pegas Tourist will issue a policy for such a trip for 20 dollars – 1337 R at the current exchange rate.

    /turistmod/

    How to choose insurance

I traveled with Biblio Globe, where the policy is estimated at 3-4% of the cost of the tour. A trip worth 100,000 RUR will be insured by the tour operator for 4,000 RUR or less. Travel companies insure the full cost of travel.

To return the money spent on the trip, the conclusion of the hospital committee and the attending physician is required. In conclusion, it must be indicated that the child is not allowed to travel. The document must also have a seal and a signature. If the child was admitted to the hospital, you will need to issue and save a sick leave.

The sick leave is filled out by a medical worker. Make sure that he does not mix up the dates of your stay in the hospital: the insurance company will check them with the dates of the trip. If the dates do not match, the reimbursement will be denied

    Take out medical insurance

You can take out medical insurance at a travel agency or on your own. If the child becomes ill, you need to call the assistance and follow his instructions.

I took out health insurance not only for the baby, but also for myself.

Solo travelers can opt for double insurance: medical and non-departure.

    /otdohnul/

What is travel insurance and why is it needed? If you feel unwell before the trip, then most likely you will fly anyway. If the child gets sick, even a little, stay at home. You can’t explain to a baby that you need to be patient a little.

    Find rentals

A baby needs a whole park of dimensional things: a stroller, a car seat, a bath for bathing, a deck chair, an arena, a feeding chair. It is impossible to take everything with you, but some try. It’s good that in tourist cities you can rent children’s things.

Book a car seat. Strollers and chairs in Greece, Thailand and Sochi are rented out by similar rental companies. Private ads can be found on Avito and its foreign counterparts. It is better to specify the terms of delivery and rent in advance. Book – too, as things can run out.

Babies under 6 months need car cots, 6 months to 1 year old need small seats. As a rule, taxi services are equipped with seats only for children over one year old.

Ask for the seat to be brought to the airport, pay a deposit and arrange to return it before your return flight. With your chair, you can order any taxi.

It is useful to clarify whether the car seat fits your stroller, whether adapters are needed. This is known in the store where the stroller was sold. For example, a chair of the Maxi-Cosi brand can be installed on the base of the Silver-Cross stroller and not load the trunk of a taxi with half of the stroller. Safety seats are more expensive and heavier.

    Car seat rental in Sochi

Before flying to Sochi, I called a dozen taxis and found out that there were no child seats anywhere. The operators tried to reassure: in the resort region, this is rarely fined. They said: “The driver has a fruit basket in the trunk, looks like a chair. Let’s put it there, traffic cops won’t dig in!” No one wanted to think about the safety of the child.

I got to the hotel by bus and called the rental company. The Maxi-Cosi chair, the same as at home, was promised to be delivered in two days. I planned a trip and called a taxi. However, the courier did not arrive: he mixed up the dates. On the third attempt, the chair was rented at Avito. The hostess picked it up before the return flight and returned the deposit.

Rent a bath tub. If your room has a shower or you are afraid of bathing your baby in a huge tub, rent a plastic bath tub. It will come in handy on the very first evening.

Rental company in Phuket. For 200-400 R you can rent a chair for feeding, a sterilizer, a bathtub

Find out the addresses of the nearest pharmacies. You need to find the phone numbers of pharmacies nearby, call and find out if they sell diapers of the right brand and size. It is also useful to know about baby food in advance.

    Diapers in Sochi

Out of 10 pharmacies in Sochi, only one sold the diapers I needed. In half of them it was impossible to buy diapers for a child under one year old. Infant formula was found only in an expensive supermarket. I did not have time to try out the delivery of diapers and food.

Write down the number of the nearest private clinic. If the condition of the baby scared you, you should immediately call an ambulance. In Russia and the European Union, there is a common emergency number 112. You can call it from a mobile phone.

    /assistance/

An insured event occurred on vacation

If an illness is included in the list of insured events, contact the insurance company. The phone number is indicated in the policy and in the insurance contract.

    Prepare for your flight

Before you travel, decide how you will carry your child on the plane – in your arms, in a carrycot or in a car seat. Call the airline so you don’t have to check in your stroller or pay for excess baggage.

    What to ask the airline:

    1. Luggage. Children under 2 years old fly free of charge in their parents’ arms, but are entitled to a baggage seat. Weight categories vary by airline. For example, if an adult in Rossiya Airlines is allowed to carry 20 kilograms of baggage, then a child is allowed 10 kilograms.
    2. Stroller. When traveling, you can take your own stroller. You can fold and hand it in at the gangway or at the entrance to the salon.
    3. Lightweight pushchairs can be carried in the cabin. The weight of such a stroller should not exceed 4.5 kilograms, dimensions – 53 × 27 × 97 centimeters.
    4. Children’s place. Some airlines provide infants with cradles to sleep in. You need to tell the airline that you want to get a bassinet and a seat in the first row. You can pay for an adjacent seat and put a car seat with a child on it. The seat of the chair should not exceed 40×40 centimeters.

Get your carrier, sling or ergo pack ready for your flight. So you can safely walk with the baby around the cabin.

    How a sling can help

Two weeks before the trip, I used a sling for the first time. I learned that there are several varieties: a sling scarf made of a very long piece of fabric and complex winding, a compact sling with rings and a mai-sling – a sewn design made of a bag and ties.

I rented a sling with rings, watched a few video tutorials and learned how to use it without difficulty. During the flight, the baby slept in a sling, not in his arms.

It is better to rent a sling at home: there will be time to learn how to use it

    Pack your suitcase

When traveling, your baby will need all the same things as at home. Therefore, do not be afraid to take too much and be afraid not to take what is important. If you take a lot of clothes, you will have to wash less often and think about whether there is a hypoallergenic powder in the laundry. If you do not take swimming diapers, the child will not be allowed into the pool of the spa hotel.

Clothes. It is convenient to pack a set of children’s clothes into a suitcase for each day of travel. You need to take clothes with a margin: the baby will grow a few centimeters. Even if the forecast promises warm weather, it is better to bring warm clothes in case of a sharp cold snap.

Hygiene. A three-day supply of diapers will come in handy until you find the nearest supermarket or pharmacy. It is useful to take several packs of wet wipes: regular and for handling dropped toys and nipples.

Baby soap, cream, detergents and baby dishwashing detergents can be conveniently poured into small plastic containers. Half-liter bottles are an extra load.

For swimming in a large bath or pool, you can take an inflatable ring that is worn around the neck. You also need swim diapers for the pool.

Food. It’s worth taking a pack of infant formula on the road, even if the baby only eats milk. The mixture is useful if the mother gets sick and cannot breastfeed.

Put some feeding bottles in the suitcase. You can pour the mixture into each of them and go for a long walk. It is better to take at least five pacifiers: they fall into the mud and get lost.

Toys. You will need toys on the trip. They get boring, so it’s better to take at least three – for example, two favorites and one new one. Your baby may need something new, like a teether.

Medicines. Take a list of medicines for the first aid kit from the pediatrician. Let the doctor indicate the exact dosages for the weight and age of the child. Buying the right medicine abroad will be easier if you sign the names of the active ingredients in Latin.

When traveling, you will need medicines for fever, allergies, runny nose, earache, cough, shortness of breath, inflammation of the eyes, dermatitis and bites, bruises, sprains, burns, motion sickness, stress and overexcitation, intestinal and other infections, nausea and vomiting, dehydration , scratches and wounds.

This first aid kit cost me 2000 R and weighed 3 kg.

    Remember

    1. Don’t buy a tour or tickets until you see a pediatrician.
    2. Choose comfortable countries: without extreme heat and cold.
    3. Look for hotels without stairs or ramps. Before booking, look at the hotel area through the street view in Google Maps.
    4. Check with the hotel about a baby cot, balcony, kettle, refrigerator.
    5. Take out medical insurance and travel cancellation insurance.
    6. Rent a car seat and bath tub in advance.
    7. Notify the airline that you are traveling with an infant.

Shearwaters successfully hatched chicks on a popular Hawaiian beach

Human anxiety did not stop a colony of wedge-tailed petrels from Hawaii’s Kailua Beach from hatching chicks. Ornithologists came to this conclusion by comparing the reproductive success of this species on the beach and on the closed territory of the military base. As noted in PeerJ magazine article , if petrels have enough space to dig their nesting holes, they can even survive in the neighborhood of humans. nine0005

Seabirds do not get along well with people. Colonies of these birds, located near human settlements, often suffer from light pollution, stray dogs and cats, and simple anxiety. Not surprisingly, these days, many seabirds nest mainly on uninhabited islands off the coast. For example, it is in such places that wedge-tailed petrels ( Ardenna pacifica ) from the population from Hawaii prefer to settle. At the same time, colonies of this species on the main islands of the archipelago inhabited by people are less common and reach a lower abundance. nine0005

A team of ornithologists led by Jessica L. Idle from the University of Hawaii at Manoa decided to learn more about how proximity to humans affects the breeding success of wedge-tailed petrels. The researchers focused on two colonies of these birds on the island of Oahu. One of them is located on the territory of a military base in Kaneohe Bay. Access of people here is limited. The second is located on Kailua Beach, popular among locals and tourists, and is experiencing moderate anthropogenic impact. nine0005

In August 2018, Idle and colleagues calculated the number of petrel-infested burrows in both colonies. They found 482 active burrows in Kineohe Bay, and only 25 active burrows on Kailua Beach. To make a fair comparison, the researchers limited the sample for Kineohe Bay to 29 randomly selected burrows. Until mid-December, the authors looked into the nests once every two or three days with the help of special probes and checked whether there were eggs, chicks or adult birds inside. If during three consecutive visits the burrows turned out to be empty, the breeding attempt of their owners was considered unsuccessful. At the same time, if the birds disappeared from the nest after November 15, it was assumed that they successfully bred. Ornithologists also studied the vegetation near active burrows and assessed how often people appear in a five-meter zone around each of them. nine0005

The authors found that the vegetation cover in both colonies is approximately the same. Around the nests located on Kailua Beach, an average of 37 people appeared every hour. One of the burrows here collapsed, perhaps due to the fact that vacationers passed over it especially often. A man stepped on another nest, but the chick survived in it and later successfully fledged. Six more burrows were abandoned at the start of the breeding season, but there were no signs of predation or that they had been destroyed by humans. In Kineohe Bay out of 29two nests were abandoned at the beginning of the breeding season. In addition, four chicks died (two of them may have been killed by predators).

At the beach, the proportion of couples who successfully raised chicks was 67 percent, and at the military base it was 83 percent. However, no statistically significant differences between these areas could be found. Thus, human disturbance has had little effect on the reproductive success of wedge-tailed petrels, and the small size of the colony on the beach may be associated with a lack of space for building burrows. nine0005

Idl et al acknowledge that their sample size is small, so their results should be treated with caution. However, the study demonstrates that in some cases, seabirds and humans can get along peacefully with each other. Perhaps, in order to make vacationers less disturbed by birds, it is enough to install warning signs around the colonies (on the Kailua beach, a local resident put them on his own initiative; and in the spring of 2021, after the completion of the study, fences and information stands appeared here) and preserve the natural vegetation surrounding them. nine0005

Some seabirds are much more sensitive to human presence than wedge-tailed petrels. For example, when humans colonized the islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon off the coast of Canada, the northern storm petrel ( Oceanodroma leucorhoa ) colony on the local island of Grand Colombier was reduced to 16 percent of potential.

Advances in technology have led us to create ever tinier gadgets with next-gen nanotechnology set to work on the miniscule scale of molecules and atoms. For now, here are five examples of science cut down to size.

    Wacaco Minipresso

Wherever you are, this mini coffee machine enables you to be your own barista and master your daily shot of espresso. The easy-to-use hand-pump system delivers a rich, smooth espresso. The operation is straightforward. Simply pack a couple of scoops of fresh ground coffee – your blend and grind of choice – into the filter basket, screw on the portafilter and add hot water to the water tank. Then turn the unit upside down over a cup, twist the piston and start pumping to deliver a large, steaming espresso, every time. Maintenance is just as easy, as all the parts are easily separated for cleaning. Weighing in a just 60 grams, you can take this compact, study machine with you even when you’re travelling light.

    Oura Ring

Fitness trackers are by their very nature designed for those with an active lifestyle so the smaller and less obtrusive the better. Apple Watches and Fitbits slip around your wrist, but the Oura Ring takes it one step further, fitting around just one finger and weighing in at just 4 grams. There’s a lot packed in to that small size with infra-red sensors within its waterproof titanium casing to measure body temperature, heart rate and respiration as well as a 3D accelerometer to measure your activity levels. All this stored data can be easily transferred to your mobile phone through the Oura app, which is free for both iOS and Android. You can also sync your workouts to the app as it is compatible with Apple Health and Google Fit. In between transfers to the app, the smart ring will hold on to its data for up to six weeks, giving the user an in-depth insight into their sleep patterns, periods of inactivity and how their environment affects their body.

    DJI Pocket 2 Camera

This travel-friendly video camera is truly pocket-sized so ideal for popping in your jacket or bag when you want to record your day trip and holiday adventures. Vloggers will love features such as its ActiveTrack 3.0, which ensures that whether the camera is in your hand while you walk and talk or placed on a table as you move around the room, it’ll keep you in the centre of the frame. The Pocket 2 also comes complete with a 3-axis mechanical stabiliser. This not only counters any handheld camera shake, it also means it stays steady as you move, turning trick shots of skateboarders or a stroll along the beach into movie-like scenes. Image quality is excellent and you can play with the super sharp 4K footage with cool extras such as Timelapse, which allows you to capture the bustle of your city break and Story Mode, which creates your own mini movies. Homepod Mini

Apple had expanded its smart speaker range, but its new addition is its smallest yet. The new HomePod mini is just under 8.5cm tall, but it fills a room with its sound and Apple has fitted in the same smart home Siri voice control features as the full-size HomePod. There’s also room for new features such as an Intercom system which allows users to send voice messages from one HomePod to another around a home, as well as to other Apple devices such as the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. Several mini units can also be paired together around the home and play audio in multiple rooms, while placing two HomePod mini speakers in the same room will create a stereo pairing. The new HomePod minis also have a small carbon footprint with Apple saying they are built using 99 per cent recycled rare earth elements and the mesh fabric is made with 90 per cent recycled plastic.

I wonder how people used to do without the help of special equipment? Well, in general, it is known how: everything was done by hand and for centuries they built pyramids, various palaces and temples. Today, all these architectural structures are a legacy of the past, and modern construction, having such an impressive history, goes further and further with leaps and bounds.
                          nine0071

The construction of the twenty-first century is extremely difficult to imagine without the direct intervention of special construction equipment. By the way, most often it is this technique that plays the main role in the process of erecting buildings, laying roads and building bridges. Bobcat special equipment
in this whole story stands an absolute apart, and here’s why. The fact is that small-sized machines are produced under this brand. The very idea of producing miniature loaders and excavators was voiced back in the late sixties of the last century by one of the American companies. Miniature equipment was needed in order to mechanize labor-intensive loading and unloading operations in numerous farms. However, as it turned out a little later, non-standard small special equipment was also needed in many other sectors of the economy.
                          nine0071

Today rent buy mini loader bu
can be found on the site nrc-bob.ru – an Internet portal, which is represented in Runet by CJSC National Rental Company. The choice between renting or buying mini-format special equipment, each businessman and each organization chooses for himself. It is important that by contacting the National Rental Company, you can get any of these services and more. In addition to renting and selling Bobcat special equipment, this company is engaged in service and repair, as well as selling spare parts. On the site nrc-bob.ru, each of the services provided is dedicated to a separate section.
                          nine0071

The choice of section is carried out, starting from what exactly you need. For example, if you want to buy spare parts for skid steer loaders, then it is quite logical that, first of all, you should look into the spare parts section. If you want to rent an excavator, attachments and (or) a loader, then you can find all the information you need about this in the “Rent” section.

ZAO National Leasing Company is an organization that is part of the Bobcat Company dealer network. In turn, the “National Rental Company” can boast of a developed branch network within its organization. This means that wherever the client is located, the special equipment purchased or rented by him will always be serviced with high quality, and spare parts ordered on the nrc-bob.ru website will be inexpensive and will be delivered exactly on time – promptly, profitably and without delay.

Lowe’s Temporarily Increases Hourly Wages and Implements New Safety Efforts in Response to COVID-19

Mooresville, N.C. – Lowe’s Companies, Inc. (NYSE: LOW) today announces additional actions being made across all U.S. stores to further protect and provide for both our associates and customers during this unprecedented time. Our announcement includes a temporary $2 an hour wage increase for all full-time, part-time and seasonal hourly associates for the hours they work at Lowe’s stores, contact centers and supply chain facilities in the U. S. and Canada for the month of April.

“We are continually working on ways to protect and support our associates and our customers during this time when we are all adjusting how we work and live,” said Marvin Ellison, Lowe’s president and CEO. “I’m announcing these new operational changes as we continue to keep the health and well-being of our associates and customers top of mind, especially as they look to us now more than ever for essential products, services and support. Today’s wage increase for our hourly associates is just another way I want to thank our 300,000 associates for their heroic actions in serving the needs of our communities. Out of school care program: Out-of-School Time (OST) | Programs and initiatives

Out of School Time | Healthy Schools

Out of School Time (OST) is a supervised program that young people regularly attend when school is not in session. This can include before- and after- school programs on a school campus or facilities such as academic programs (e.g., reading or math focused programs), specialty programs (e.g., sports teams, STEM, arts enrichment), and multipurpose programs that provide an array of activities (e.g., 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCAs).

About 7.7 million US children head to after school programs when the school day ends.1 Young people who stay for after-school programming spend a large part of their waking hours on the school campus. OST programs provide youths with safety and supervision.2 Research shows that some OST programs can support student academic achievement2-4 and may play a role in reducing health disparities.3   Additionally, programs that follow evidence-based practices aimed at improving personal and social skills of youths are linked with positive social behaviors. 4,5

What happens on school grounds—before, during, and after school—can have a big impact on a child’s health and learning.2,6,7 OST program leaders and staff are natural partners for extending the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child approach beyond the school day. Many OST organizations have adopted voluntary standards to help make physical activity and nutritious foods and beverages an everyday part of their programs.

Nutritious snacks and meals are important.

Children often arrive at after school programs hours after their last meal. Hunger and thirst can make it difficult for students to focus.7 Federal after-school programs and summer snack and meal programs have nutrition standards and can improve children’s diet quality and food security,8 which may further support physical and mental health and learning. A healthy school nutrition environment provides students with nutritious and appealing foods and beverages, consistent and accurate messages about good nutrition, and ways to learn and practice healthy eating throughout the time children spend on school grounds—including during OST.

    Movement matters too.

Physical activity can  improve concentration and memory.7  Given these important benefits, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Institute of Medicine highlight before- and after- school programs, as well as physical activity clubs and intramural and extramural sports, as part of a comprehensive approach to increasing physical education and physical activity.10,11

Coordination between school day and OST staff and administrators can help provide young people with consistent messaging and opportunities related to physical activity and nutrition while they are on school grounds.

Coordinating health services can help support children with chronic conditions.

The health care needs of children with chronic illness, such as asthma and diabetes, can be complex—involving both daily management and preparing for potential emergencies. Improved communication between school health services staff and after-school providers has the potential to support the needs of children with chronic health conditions. Researchers and public health professionals are looking to learn more from best practices to support the needs of young people with chronic conditions in OST settings.

Disruptions to in-person schooling highlighted the importance of OST programs. This brief essay provides an overview of how school and community organizations partnered to address inequities in health and education exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Recovery efforts offer a chance to strengthen and sustain school–OST provider partnerships.

There are ways for school district staff and school wellness teams to enhance connections with OST staff.

School districts can do the following:

    • Invite key staff from school-based OST programs to be a part of the School Health Advisory Councils (SHACs) and School Wellness Councils and include OST program administrators on communications related to school wellness initiatives and policies.
    • Review local wellness policies to see how they address physical activity and nutrition before or after school.

School teams can do the following:

    • Use the School Health Index to guide planning efforts related to school health programming, policies, and messaging on school grounds—before, during, or after school. Engage afterschool program staff in completing assessments and developing action plans.

School administrators can strengthen partnerships with OST programs to support student health and learning.

    • Partnerships between schools and community based organizations are an important piece of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
    • Programs on school sites may have affiliations with organizations that are already committed to adopting Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) initiatives. These include National Afterschool Association accredited programs and those run by the Y (YMCA), Boys & Girls Clubs, or Parks and Recreation.13 Developing relationships with these OST providers may help to enhance local adoption and promotion of HEPA standards.

There are many different OST programs available on school grounds, including childcare, youth development, and special interest activities like robotics clubs, arts programs, or sports clubs. Different organizations can run these programs, including schools and school districts, local chapters of national organizations (e.g., Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCAs), universities, community organizations, and parent volunteers. Some programs run until the evening (e.g., 3 p.m.—6p.m.) and other programs operate using less time.

OST programs also vary in their staffing and leadership, available resources (e.g., equipment, funding, space, and professional development offerings), purpose, and contact hours with children. These factors influence the kinds of physical activity and nutrition policies a program can implement.12

HOST (Before and After School, Summer Care) Programs / Background of HOST and Why Out of School

    District Home

    Search. ..

    • After school programs (ASP) were designed, developed, and implemented in 1990 at the request of Dr. Walter Sickles then Superintendent. Viewing the project as a community outreach initiative, he contacted the Director of Adult and Community Education, with a request to create a district-operated, fee-based after school program for elementary schools. Hillsborough County elected to follow the successful paradigm of the National School Age Child Care Association (NSACCA) and thus began School Age Child Care (SACC). The program has experienced remarkable growth as an affordable service for working families in the community.

The local YMCA was operating after school programs throughout the district concurrently with the implementation of SACC. The YMCA continues to contract with the school board to provide programs in forty elementary schools and two exceptional education centers. The 2006-2007 school year is the third of a five year contractual agreement with the Tampa YMCA.

In September 2006, Superintendent MaryEllen Elia transferred the rapidly growing after school programs from the Department of Adult and Community Education in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction to the Division of Federal Programs and Student Services. The Department of Early Childhood has since taken on the title of The Department of Early Childhood and After School Programs. Grant-based after school programs such as 21st Century Community Learning Centers are now encompassed by the Title I office, as these grants are available exclusively to Title I schools.

The Hillsborough County School Board approved a measure to combine the School Age Child Care (SACC) and Middle School Extended Day (MSED) Programs into a single program with a single name: the Hillsborough County Public Schools Out -of- School Time (HOST) Program. The rationale for combining the Elementary and Middle School Programs into a single unit includes many factors. Both programs are operated by the school district and aim to provide identical, age-appropriate services. The merged program helps build relationships between feeder schools and establish continuity between Elementary and Middle School Programs.

The HOST mission and vision have changed over the years in response to explosive growth and the changing needs of students and the community. Programs were initially perceived as child care services only. Families and the district have come to expect an academic component to the HOST paradigm. Meeting this expectation requires an unprecedented amount of managerial coordination and expertise.

Even with this added responsibility, HOST continues to flourish, offering supervision as well as a variety of age-appropriate enrichment activities for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Every HOST site creates a plan of daily activities including homework assistance, academic enrichment, arts & crafts, games, structured outdoor activities, and field trips. District after school programs are committed to assisting schools boost student achievement. Many schools provide students access to computer labs and tutorial software such as FCAT Explorer, SuccessMaker®, and Fast Math.

Since 2003, the elementary programs have grown in number from fifty-eight (58) to one-hundred thirteen (113) sites. Of those 113 sites, forty-one (41) have eighty (80+) or more enrolled students. Meanwhile, middle school programs have transitioned from free, grant-based programs to fee-based, weekly programs. There are currently thirty-six (36) morning and/or after school programs at middle school sites.

    • The term “out-of-school time program” (OST program) refers to the broad range of programs available to children and youth attending elementary and middle school that take place outside the regular school day. These programs include before and after school as well as summer programs. They encompass programs that have such focuses as tutoring, recreation, arts, character education, literacy, service-learning, and general enrichment. Hillsborough County after school programs provide community families with safe, supervised environments for student enrichment.

The school district has a long and ongoing history of successful out-of-school programs that effectively serve the needs of the community while promoting student achievement. Programs were initially perceived as child care services only. The request for, as well as the demand on these programs to provide quality academic enrichment have dramatically increased since the programs’ inception seventeen years ago. No Child Left Behind introduced unprecedented emphasis on the after school program’s role in academics.

Mission: Provide Out-of-School Time programs that empower students to grow and develop in a safe, caring and educationally enriched environment.

How to Become an After School Director • BUOM

Posted by the Indeed Editorial Team

    May 20, 2021

Afterschool programs provide parents with quality child care and offer students an opportunity to learn or have fun. Directors of after-school programs manage all aspects of programs, from activities and student safety to staff recruitment. If you are interested in becoming a director of after-school programs, it is important to understand the steps you need to take to become one. In this article, we discuss who and what an afterschool director is, what an afterschool program is, how to become a director, and the skills, job prospects, and salary of an afterschool director. nine0003

    What are extracurricular programs?

Afterschool programs are educational, athletic, artistic, or religious programs for children. They usually emphasize homework help, literacy skills, math skills, or interpersonal skills. Afterschool programs can vary widely depending on several factors:

    • Who sponsors it – general sponsors – nonprofits, school districts, and churches. nine0003

    • Topics that interest students, such as sports, subject or student organization.

    • Budget available for the program

Many full-time parents use quality after-school programs as an alternative to child care between the end of the school day and the end of the work day. However, some students attend extra-curricular programs for learning or just for fun. Most communities and schools create after-school programs to meet these needs. nine0003

Who is the Director of Extracurricular Programs?

The Director of Extracurricular Programs is an educational professional who manages student programs outside of regular school hours. The director typically works with schools, program staff, and teachers to plan activities and create curricula while fulfilling the goals and mission of the program. They structure the program to provide an educational or enriching experience based on the interests or needs of the school, parents, and students. Directors are usually representatives of the program and promote its activities in the community. nine0003

What does a director of extracurricular programs do?

Extracurricular Program Managers develop the curriculum for all extracurricular activities, supervise each of the activities, and evaluate and evaluate all program procedures. Using both informal and formal assessments, the Principal can track the progress of individual students and the entire program, providing reports to sponsoring organizations, schools, and parents. Here are some of the typical responsibilities of directors of extracurricular programs:

    • delegation of tasks to employees and teachers

    • Implement and discuss the goals of the organization

    • Achieving the goals of the program by providing the necessary resources

    • Work with donations and other means

    • Balance 9000

      fundraising activities

    • Engage the community, families and teachers

    • Conduct research

    • Enforce policies

Here is more information on the top three responsibilities of after-school program leaders: Sometimes employees are employees under the direct supervision of the director, and sometimes they are volunteers. As part of personnel management, program managers usually evaluate the performance of employees and provide training to improve their skills. This helps to ensure and maintain the high quality of the program. nine0003

    Operations Management

The Director of the Extracurricular Program manages the entire program, including equipment, safety protocols, and finances. It is their responsibility to provide personnel with all the equipment, tools and resources they need to perform their jobs effectively. The director also monitors potential safety and health hazards. This is not always the case, but often the director may be involved in financial management such as budgeting, accounts payable, and purchasing. nine0003

    Community Relations

Engaging parents and students in an enriching and meaningful program is critical to the success of an after-school program. The director of the after-school program is responsible for building relationships with the community, schools, and parents. This promotes word of mouth advertising and attracts support for the program. The principal meets frequently with community groups, organizations, church groups, and school representatives to promote programs or assess student needs. nine0003

How to become a director of an after-school program

Here are the steps to become a director of an after-school program:

    1. Get a degree

Although it is possible to become a director of an after-school program with only a high school diploma or GED, most directors have a bachelor’s degree in education , business or related fields. If the degree is not in an educational field, most employers require a certain amount of college credits in education. Students can accomplish this by taking elective courses in educational topics. nine0003

Out-of-school program leaders can also expand their knowledge and skills in managing childcare programs. They may earn a degree in education, business, or a related field. They can take an online training program specifically for directors of child care programs or separate continuing education courses that cover topics related to after-school programs and child care programs.

    2. Comply with requirements

Most of the directors of extracurricular programs or children’s care programs must comply with the main requirements, such as:

    • Biographical data check

    • fingerprints

    • Drug inspection

    • 9000

      First Aid and CPR Certification

    3.

    Gain Experience

Most employers require extracurricular program managers to have at least two years of work experience. This experience can be gained by working with school-age children or by directing child or youth care programs. Working with children in a formal or informal setting, such as in the classroom, after school, or in a recreational setting, may also be acceptable. nine0003

    4. Get certified

Some states and employers require program directors to be certified directors. Many states have a certification program for any type of daycare, including out-of-school programs. This usually includes applying for credentials, sending letters of proof of work experience, providing transcripts, and paying an application fee.

    Extracurricular Program Leader Skills

Here are some general skills that extracurricular program leaders may have:

    • Excellent oral and written communication

    • Effective management and leadership

    • Multivativity and organization

    • Ownership of the basic office programs

    • Conflict resolution and solutions to 9000

    • 9002 Families

    • Excellent planning and implementation

Job prospects and salary of the director of the extracurricular program

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, out-of-school caregivers such as directors of preschools and childcare centers can expect employment growth rates of 1% from 2019 to 2029.

Daily Homeschool Schedule: Preschool – Confessions of a Homeschooler

Daily Schedule / Homeschool / Mom Stuff / Preschool / Schedule

I’m going to do a short series of posts titled ‘Daily Homeschool Schedule’ for you all. I’ve had countless questions about our homeschool schedule. And you can see a basic overview of our daily schedule here.

But more specifically you’ve been asking questions about how long we do each subject, how many days per week, and what our day looks like hour by hour for each grade level.

So for the next few weeks I’m going to share our schedule in a more detail by each grade level.

    Download a copy:

    • Daily Schedule Prek – PDF
    • Daily Schedule Prek – Word Doc (Editable)

Today we’ll be taking a closer look into the life of the Teeny Tot. She’s currently 4 years old and doing preschool this year. Since she won’t be doing kindergarten until next year, we’ll be doing another round of Letter of the Week and add in a few of the K4 activities as she’s ready.

    Here’s our Basic Preschool Schedule:

    • 8:30am   – Breakfast / Family Devotion Time
    • 9:00am   – Calendar Time & Daily Learning Notebook
    • 10:00am – Phonics
    • 10:10am – Fine Motor Skills
    • 10:30am – Color / Shapes Recognition
    • 10:45am – Math Activities
    • 11:00am – Logical Thinking
    • 11:15am – Large Motor Skills
    • 11:30am – Art
    • 11:45am – Reading
    • 12:00 noon – Lunch/Outside
    • 1:00pm  – Free

Her schedule is pretty simple, and it can vary from day to day. While I just shared our basic frame with you, keep in mind we do not rigidly follow this schedule, and our days vary quite a bit.

The other thing I’d like to mention is that if the Teeny Tot were my oldest I would probably not be doing school with her every single day. I would more likely do a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule with her.

But since we have older kiddos doing school, the Teeny Tot likes to be included daily. She even usually stays in the school room by choice after she’s done with her own activities.

Since she’s doing my Letter of the Week curriculum again, she is focusing on one letter each week. I sort out the activities so that she’s doing a bit of each skill every day.

In the Letter of the Week lesson plans (shown above), these activities are planned out for you, so you don’t have to do a schedule like the one at the top of this post unless you prefer to modify the curriculum.

Click here to see a SAMPLE LESSON PLAN

On most days the Teeny Tot does school from about 9am – noon. Like I said, it can vary. Often times she is done before that, it just depends on how long her activities take her that day.

    And that’s about it!

I’d love to hear some comments what you do for preschool each day!

    Leave a comment below!

The Letter of the Week is a full 26 week preschool course designed to give your student a head-start on preparing for kindergarten! It is a 26 week curriculum that’s full of educational activities that focus on the letter recognition, sounds, number recognition, counting, basic math skills, pre-writing practice, and all the necessary fine-motor skills that will be required for your preschooler to be ready for kindergarten! Included are weekly lesson plans that cover all the subjects a preschooler needs and more!

Unlike a business executive or transportation professional, kindergarten and pre-K students aren’t focused on the clock during their day. The events in their lives are marked by what happens and not necessarily when it happens. The concept of a schedule may be something they don’t fully understand yet. Some pre-K children may not be ready to juggle several concepts in their head at the same time. That’s why educators should begin with a simple approach when introducing their class to the idea of a scheduled, organized school day.

    The importance of a schedule

In the class setting, developing a schedule for pre-K and kindergarten students is important. A regular schedule gives them a sense of order and teaches the value of organizing their time, priorities, and expectations. When they are introduced to a regular routine, they can become more comfortable in their abilities as they begin to know what to expect.

Head Start Early Learning & Knowledge Center states that introducing children to a schedule can help them feel in control of their environment as they start to understand that certain event occur at certain times of the day. They learn the importance and benefit of planning as they know what is happening now and what will happen next.

Developing a schedule for your pre-K or kindergarten class can be an important part of the learning process

Why schedules are important for children

Creating a schedule for pre-K and kindergarten students is important because:

    • It can help a child feel safe and secure when they can anticipate changes in routine.

    • It may assist children in understanding what is expected of them and when.

    • They can become more engaged and attentive when they have schedules and routines they are familiar with, possibly increasing their capacity to learn new lessons.

    • It could reassure children with behavioral challenges and help develop self-control if they know they must wait for certain activities.

Before creating a schedule for pre-K and kindergarten students, teachers should consider a list of important factors including: the number of activities planned for the day (a variety can ensure that all children find something that interests them and reduces the likelihood they’ll perform in isolation for long periods of time), the balance of activities (between work and play), the children’s general attention span/level of alertness (children may be alert and engaged at different times), and any cultural or language issues that might be a factor.

Creating a schedule for pre-K/kindergarten children

When establishing a daily schedule for pre-k and kindergarten students, there are a few things you should take into account:

    • The schedule should be easily explained to the children and fairly simple for them to comprehend.

    • An effective, well-coordinated schedule will be arranged in a manner that balances the activities directed by the teacher with those that permit free, open-ended activities that allow for creative thought.

    • The schedule should provide adequate time for each structured activity and include transition time as well.

    • It should accommodate children with special needs to allow them time to transition and adjust.

    • The schedule should be shared with parents so they can have a picture of their child’s school day and provide useful input if necessary.

    • The schedule should be flexible, allowing time for special events or for activities to continue if children are interested and not ready to move on to the next activity.

It may take some time for the children to get used to the schedule and, indeed, there may be students who aren’t able to fully embrace the concept, preferring to continue activities rather than move on to something else. There could also be children who actively try to break the routine, but maintaining consistency is important. Knowing that some students will require time to understand and adjust is key for the teacher. It’s also important for teachers to follow the children’s lead and allow activities to continue when children are very interested or want to extend learning in a different direction.

Establishing a schedule for pre-K and kindergarten students can help you become a more effective teacher as well. You will be able to increase classroom engagement through a structured school day, making you a more successful instructor.

    Loan products

    Cash loan for any purpose

application for a cash loan and come for money to any branch of VTB

    Loan refinancing

    Loan refinancing allows
reduce the overpayment and combine several loans into one

How to use the loan calculation calculator?

To make a preliminary calculation online without filling out a bank application, use the loan calculator. The online service will allow you to determine the acceptable loan amount and comfortable term, calculate the monthly payment and form an approximate repayment schedule.

To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Enter the required loan amount using the slider or manually enter.

    2. Move the slider to specify the loan term.

    3. If you are a payroll client of the Bank or a non-working pensioner, do not forget to tick the appropriate box. This will allow you to make a more accurate calculation.

    4. In the next block you will be able to get acquainted with the preliminary calculation of the monthly payment according to the selected parameters, as well as with the list of required documents.

    5. Submit an application and get a bank decision in a couple of minutes.

Why do I need a loan calculator?

Loan calculator is a special online service that allows a potential borrower to roughly calculate all the parameters of a future loan. The client can find out the preliminary amount of mandatory annuity payments for repayment on a consumer loan, calculate the loan burden in order to correctly allocate the budget.

How to calculate the amount of the monthly loan payment?

To use the calculator to see what the approximate amount of the payment will be, you need to select:

    • the amount of interest

    • planned payment period

    • note if you receive a salary on VTB cards, are a non-working pensioner or you are from 18 to 22 full years old

Depending on these parameters and the proposed loan conditions, the calculator will select and calculate an approximate monthly payment. Preliminary rates are indicated taking into account the discount when applying online and when connecting insurance. Exact calculations will appear after the approval of the application by the bank and may change – for example, depending on the method of confirming income or attracting a guarantor.

What does the loan payment schedule look like?

This is the name of the table, which will be detailed:

    • dates – when you need to transfer the contribution (during preliminary calculations on the calculator page, simply indicate the serial number of the month of payment)

    • interest – calculated in annual %, payment on them gradually decreases

    • principal debt – how much money from the body of the loan you pay

    • payment per month – the total amount, together with the payment of interest, to be transferred monthly, its size remains unchanged

    • repayment balance – at any time you can see how much you need to pay in order to close the loan in cash or by transfer

The full time schedule can be downloaded electronically or printed for convenience to use as a reminder.

How to calculate the balance of principal on a loan?

You can check this yourself. To do this, you need to open the payment schedule and look in the line opposite the nearest date – the “Balance” field will indicate the amount that you need to return to the bank. If you pay this debt along with the next payment, full repayment will occur.

How to calculate the loan burden?

The leverage ratio depends on the monthly payments on all loans and borrowings (including the one applied for), other mandatory payments and on the average monthly income of the borrower.

How to calculate the loan overpayment?

Overpayment means the amount of all interest that the client will pay for the full term of the loan.

To calculate the overpayment, you need to sum up all the % for each month from the payment schedule, add insurance and other payments and commissions to them. They are indicated in the total cost of the loan.

    What is an annuity payment?

This is a type of loan payment under which the borrower transfers the same amount on the same date of each month. In this case, the repayment occurs in equal parts, but in the first months a large share goes to repay the interest accrued for the reporting period, and the remainder goes to repay the debt.

    What is a differentiated payment?

This is a type of loan repayment, in which the amount changes in each period, but the percentage shares and the loan body remain the same. Suitable for those clients for whom the amount of monthly payment in cash or transfer is unimportant, and for those who can handle large payments in the first months. In consumer lending, these conditions for obtaining a loan are rare.

How do I know if a bank will approve a loan?

To find out about the possibility of obtaining a consumer loan in cash, fill out and submit an application using your passport in a convenient way: through the Internet bank or the VTB Online mobile application.

You can also call the free hotline 8 (800) 100-24-24 or 1000.

What affects interest and other loan conditions?

Loan conditions depend on various factors.

C-Section Incision Burning – What’s Normal, When To Worry – Parents Wonder

The emotional and physical upheaval of a cesarean section (c-section) delivery is demanding enough without considering the toll that recovery can take.

Following major abdominal surgery, pain and discomfort are to be expected at the site of your incision, and you may be wondering whether a burning sensation is a normal part of this pain.

Why is my c-section scar burning? In some cases, a burning or stinging sensation on or near your c-section incision can indicate an infection, though this is typically accompanied by other symptoms. Burning is commonly linked to abdominal nerve damage but, in rare cases, it could be due to a hernia or endometriosis.

It’s only natural to feel worried and wiped out at the thought of a long, painful recovery from your c-section surgery.

Everyone heals differently though, and the more you know about the healing process, the better you’ll be equipped to deal with each day, week, and month.

We’ll look at what burning pain means, your recovery timeline, and more in the following.

C-Section Incision Burning – What To Know

Many women experience a burning sensation as they heal from a c-section surgery.

Key things to look out for during your recovery are how the wound appears, how long the sensation lasts, and possible signs of infection.

Is It Normal for a C-Section Incision To Burn?

Yes, a lot of women report feeling a stinging or pulling sensation similar to burning when they lie down or get up, and some feel it on one side of their abdomen.

Mom-of-two Leslie Berry from Kidsly Mom described feeling a tender “burning sensation on one side.” This is expected postpartum as the stitches are pulled during movement or whenever pressure is applied to the incision.

Nerve damage is the most common cause behind a burning c-section scar, but when accompanied by other symptoms, this kind of stinging pain can be attributed to an infection, a hernia, or endometriosis in rare cases.

What the Incision Should Look Like as It Heals

According to physical therapist Dr. Laura Glazebrook, a healthy c-section scar should “start fading from a red to a pink coloration, and it should look pretty uniform as it heals.”

C-section scars commonly heal in line with the incision, but some scar formations can appear raised and thicker (hypertrophic) or stray from the boundaries of the original wound (keloid).

How Long Does C-Section Pain Last?

Some women can experience pain for several days or weeks following cesarean delivery.

You’ll likely need to take pain relief medications for the first week or so, and after this period, it’s normal to feel sore and tender for the first month postpartum or longer.

Your first checkup is normally scheduled 4-6 weeks after delivery, so if you are still experiencing pain at this stage, your doctor will be able to discuss your ongoing recovery and recommend other forms of pain relief.

    Signs of Infection

Burning can be a sign of an infected incision, but it is not the only sign. If you experience any of the following, please report these to your healthcare provider as soon as you can:

    • Nausea and dizziness
    • Feverish/have high temperature
    • More pain in the wound or your womb since delivery
    • Incision site feels warm to the touch
    • Green or yellow weeping/discharge from the wound
    • A foul odor from the wound
    • Wound is red or swollen
    • Wound is gaping/open
    • Unpleasant vaginal discharge
    • Pain during urination

    When To See the Doctor

It’s advisable to see your doctor if you experience any of the above-mentioned signs of infection alongside a burning sensation or if you are still experiencing a burning, stinging pain beyond 8 weeks postpartum.

Other less-common symptoms that could indicate a blood clot and require urgent attention include:

    • Swelling/redness in your lower leg
    • Breast pain
    • Heavy vaginal bleeding/discharge
    • Chest pain or difficulty breathing
    • Permanent numbness around or near the scar

When To Expect Pain and Discomfort To Go Away

Pain and feelings of discomfort should have more or less subsided once you are 8 weeks postpartum, and the general soreness should begin to fade within the first 2-4 weeks following your delivery.

How Do I Know My C-Section Is Healing?

You’ll know your c-section site is healing well when it becomes less and less tender to the touch. The scar itself will change from pink to purplish and may remain this way for several months before gradually fading into a faint whitish line.

How Long Does It Take for C-Section To Heal?

It normally takes around 6-10 weeks for a c-section incision to heal completely, and healing can be sped up by ensuring you don’t rush into resuming your regular activities.

Dr. Rajiv B. Gala at the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists stresses “allowing at least six weeks healing time allows the incision line to mature so that when strenuous activities are performed, the integrity is not compromised.”

    C-Section Recovery Week by Week

Everyone’s recovery will be slightly different, so it’s important to take the process week-by-week and report anything out of the ordinary to your doctor. Here’s what you can expect:

    Week 1

In the inflammatory stage, you may need to stay in the hospital for up to 4 days post-delivery in case of heavy bleeding.

Your incision will appear swollen and red/pink, and you’ll find that it hurts to laugh, cough, sneeze, and take a shower.

    Weeks 2-3

Nearing the proliferative stage of your recovery, white blood cells will begin to guard your incision against infection. Your wound will still feel sore at this stage, and the muscles surrounding the incision can feel weak.

In the third week, collagen starts to form at the wound to strengthen and pull the tissue together.

    Weeks 4-6

At the remodeling stage, your scar will become thicker and change color from pink/red to a dark purplish shade as new blood vessels start to form.

By week 6, you can begin using tampons without risking infection, but please speak to your doctor before doing so.

    After 6 Weeks

Shortly after this time, your c-section incision should have healed up completely, allowing you to comfortably resume normal activities such as exercising, driving, sex, etc.

Some women can experience incision or muscle pain for several months following delivery, and you may struggle with urinary incontinence due to a weakened pelvic floor.

Your doctor or midwife may refer you to a physical therapist to aid your long-term recovery.

    C-Section Recovery Tips

    1. Rest as much as you can: Rest whenever baby sleeps, and ask loved ones for help so you can grab naps!

    2. Take gentle walks: This helps reduce the risk of blood clots and heart issues and maintains good mental health.

    3. Ask for breastfeeding support: C-sections are linked to higher risks of difficulties when breastfeeding, so speak to a lactation consultant if it’s painful/difficult to feed your little one.

    4. Wear loose, comfy clothes without waistbands: Floaty, freeing clothes prevent fabric from rubbing against or irritating your scar.

    5. Clean your wound properly: Your doctor/midwife will instruct you on wound aftercare. Washing and then drying the incision promptly will reduce your infection risk.

    Related Questions:

    Should My C-Section Incision Itch?

As c-section wounds heal, an itching sensation at the incision site is very common.

Itching occurs due to damaged nerves in the area becoming very sensitive, but it can also be caused by the regrowth of pubic hair in that area.

Apply a cold compress, and avoid scratching as this can lead to infection.

Should My C-Section Incision Be Hard?

Thicker, firmer scars — known as hypertrophic scars — appear slightly more raised than normal c-section scars due to a complication during the healing process in which excess collagen is produced at the incision site.

It’s normal for these scars to thicken for up to 6 months before improving.

    Conclusion

A burning c-section incision can be worrying and debilitating to deal with during your recovery, but it’s rarely a sign of infection or other complications on its own.

The presence of additional symptoms such as nausea, fever, and weeping wounds is when your burning scar will require urgent medical attention.

How to Deal with Burning Sensation after C-Section

If you are having or just had a c-section, this blog is the place to be! To a lot of women (including myself!), c-sections can be intimidating!

For many women, there are a lot of unknowns surrounding a c-section. What will recovery be like? What will my scar look like? When can I resume normal activities?

All of those are excellent questions to get yourself prepared and have your expectations set. We will cover all of those, and more!

What Should You Expect After A C-Section?

A C-Section is major surgery. During a c-section, the surgeon cuts through different layers of tissue to open the uterus and pull out the baby.

After your c-section, the surgeon will suture you up. You will be up and around several hours after your c-section.

You will be released from the hospital 2-3 days after your procedure. When you arrive home there are several things that you can do to help your body heal and recover:

    • Rest: Rest whenever you can. Make sure not to lift anything over 10 pounds or do any strenuous activities.
    • Driving: Try to avoid driving for a few weeks post-op. It may be difficult to adequately twist, turn and press on the pedals.
    • Pain relievers: Be sure to stay on top of your pain medication, especially within the first few days post-op.
    • Sex: Hold off on having sex until you are cleared by your OBGYN at your 6-week follow-up appointment.

What does a Normal C-Section Scar Look Like?

Normal is a quite subjective term, but generally, c-section scars are around 6 inches long. Typically they are an incision just above the pubic bone but depending on health factors and baby’s position the surgeon may decide to do a vertical incision from the belly button to the pubic bone.

Your scar will be red for just a few months, then fade to pink, and eventually, it will be a slightly raised line faded to skin color.

    Is C-Section Scar Burning Normal?

Pain can be normal, and pain alone doesn’t always indicate a problem, but a burning or stinging sensation can be a sign of a number of complications

How Long Does C-Section Incision Burning Last?

The incision burning can last 4-6 weeks post-c-section. If the burning sensation persists longer than 3 months be sure to consult your physician so other complications can be ruled out.

    C-Section Scar Healing Stages

I want to make sure that you are prepared and know what to expect during the healing process. Let’s discuss the c-section scar healing stages.

    Hemostasis

Hemostasis consists of the first 2 days. This is where your body is constricting the blood vessels and clotting.

    Inflammatory Stage

The inflammatory stage lasts around a week. During this stage, the wound site is likely inflamed, painful, and red. Your body is getting prepared to grow new tissue.

    Proliferative Stage

The proliferative stage lasts around 3 weeks. During this time, your body will be creating new tissue, forming new blood vessels, and healing from the inside out.

    Remodeling Stage

The remodeling stage of healing can last months or even years. A c-section is major surgery, and your body can take a while to fully recover.

Every c-section scar is going to look different, depending on the surgery and the way that your body heals.

What Causes Burning and Stinging After a C-Section?

Okay, so you are feeling burning at the scar site. What could be causing it?

Nerve Damage: Of course, cutting through multiple layers of tissue there is the possibility of nerve damage. As the nerves are healing and finding each other again you may feel a burning or stinging sensation.

Endometriosis: Incisional endometriosis occurs when the uterine tissue that usually lines the uterus grows on the outside of the uterus. This complication is rare but can still happen.

Infection: Infection happens when bacteria find its way inside of the incision. Signs of an infection are redness tenderness and swelling on the outside of the incision. You will also likely have drainage or pus coming out of the site.

Hernia: Hernias happen when intestines protrude through a weak point in the abdominal wall. Hernias are more common after c-sections because of this.

What Can You Do if Your C-Section Scar is Burning?

If your scar is burning, it can be normal or an indication of something more serious. There are several different things that you can do or request if your scar is really irritating you.

Antibiotics: Your doctor might prescribe you antibiotics if they believe you have an infection.

Painkillers: Burning may be normal for your healing process, but that doesn’t make it pleasant. You might be prescribed painkillers to help with the discomfort.

Ice or Heat: Your provider may suggest using ice or heat for the burning sensation.

Anesthetic Shot: If your scar is burning, you may request an anesthetic shot. This isn’t a long-term solution but can provide temporary relief.

Scar Tissue Mobilization: Scar tissue mobilization involves massaging the scar tissue. This treatment helps to restore movement of the tissue by remodeling.

Abdominal Binding: Abdominal binding has been used for centuries after childbirth and is especially beneficial after a c-section. Abdominal binding helps to put a steady amount of pressure on the incision site and is beneficial in helping to support the organs while moving back to where they belong.

Surgery to Remove Infected Skin or Nerves: If you develop a severe infection, surgery may be required.

How Can you Prevent a Burning Sensation on Your C-Section Scar?

In some instances, the burning sensation may be inevitable, but there are things that you can do to reduce the risk of having that burning sensation.

Clean as Instructed: Make sure that you are cleaning your scar as instructed by your surgeon. If you notice any discharge, fever, bleeding or severe pain be sure to let your health care provider know.

Wear Loose Clothing: Wearing tight-fitting clothing can definitely cause your scar to be very irritated and angry. Wearing something that is loose around your scar is ideal in the first few weeks post-op.

Follow Restrictions: I know that restrictions are annoying, but they are there for your well-being! Don’t lift anything too heavy, exercise, or have sex in the first 6 weeks.

Rest: I know it is hard, especially with a newborn..but rest is SO important in order to heal!

Follow a Healthy Diet: Make sure that you are fueling your body to heal. Eating a healthy, nutritious diet will promote healing in your body.

Drink Water: Stay hydrated! When your body is dehydrated, you start to weaken, and your body slows down the healing process.

Frequently Asked Questions about C-Section Scars

How to Care For Your C-Section Scar

    • Keep the wound clean. You can use mild soap and water to clean the wound if needed. Do not scrub.
    • Pat dry your wound after the shower.
    • Change your wound dressing 2 times per day.

    How to Minimize C-Section Scarring

    • Silicone Treatments: Silicone treatments are very minimally invasive. You can start using them as soon as 2 weeks post-op, but make sure to consult your physician first. Silicone treatments help keep moisture and prevent abnormal scarring. I like this one from Amazon!
    • Creams: There are lots of different scar creams out there, but I like the Mederma brand advanced scar gel found here!
    • Scar Massage: Massaging the scar helps causes remodeling in the scar and helps to make it more mobile.
    • Injections: Injections are one of the more invasive ways to minimize scarring. The injections are steroids, and they reduce inflammation and help to make the scar appear less visible.

    How are C-Sections Closed?

    Staples

Staples are a common way to close a c-section incision because it is fast and effective.

    Stitches

Stitches take significantly more time than staples, but some experts believe that wounds closed by stitches are less likely to develop complications. When stitching up a patient, surgeons use a special type of thread and needle and basically sew the wound shut.

    Glue

Unfortunately, glue isn’t always an option depending on the circumstances of the c-section. This method, however, is believed to leave the least amount of scarring. The type of glue that is used is like a very strong super glue and then the wound has a dressing placed over the top.

What are the Types of C-Section Incisions?

    Low Transverse

A transverse c-section scar is probably the most common these days. The surgeon will make an incision right above the pubic bone. It is typically around 6 inches in length.

    Vertical

This type of incision was popular in the early 1900s. The vertical incision is still used occasionally when the baby is in an awkward position.

    Low Vertical

Much like the vertical incision I talked about above, just lower on the abdomen. The incision will start just above the pubic bone.

    Inverted T

This incision often happens when the surgeon decides they need more room to work. This incision starts out like a low transverse incision, but the surgeon will make an incision upwards to the belly button.

    Inverted J

Sometimes this type of incision can happen by accident, especially in an emergency. The incision looks like a J along the lower abdomen.

Are there different Types of C-Section Scars?

Because we are all unique, there can be different types of c-section scars.

Keloid C-Section Scar: This type of scar occurs because of overhealing. A keloid scar is usually larger than the original wound. Often, the scar is thick and highly pigmented. This type of scarring is more common in women of African descent and typically runs in the family.

Hypertrophic C-Section Scar: This type of scar occurs because the body had an abnormal response to the healing process. Hypertrophic scars happen because the body creates extra tissue in response to the trauma.

A burning sensation after your c-section can be a normal part of the healing process, or it can be an indicator of something more serious. If you feel like something is off, be sure to listen to your body.

What did you experience post-c-section? Did you have issues with burning? Let me know in the comments below!

Increased. the work of about 400 skeletal muscles 1 , which, moreover, make up 40-45% of body weight 3 . Therefore, it is not surprising that every person during his life repeatedly experiences muscle pain in different parts of the body – neck, back, lower back and limbs 1 .

Muscle pain, or, scientifically, myalgia 5 periodically occurs in 54% of women and 45% of men of working age – from 27 to 50 years, but such a complaint is not uncommon even in children 1 . Myalgia may be mild or very severe, intolerable 1 , depending on its cause.

    Causes of muscle pain

Due to the large number of nerve endings, muscle tissue is sensitive to any damage or irritation. In response, it secretes substances that stimulate pain 4.5 . There are a lot of factors that provoke muscle irritation. We will describe the most common below.

    Muscle fatigue

In our technological age, many people are gradually forming a new “bad habit”. Spending most of the day in front of a computer screen or holding mobile gadgets in our hands, we may not even notice that we are sitting in a completely uncomfortable and unnatural position. Especially “goes” to the muscles of the shoulder girdle, neck, back and right arm, which is constantly on the computer mouse of office workers 1 . Prolonged stay in one position or stereotypical movements can lead to overstrain of the muscles involved in the work, which we feel as pain 1 .

    Exercise

Body aches after exercise can occur in both untrained people and professional athletes 8 . And the cause of discomfort is the accumulation of under-oxidized metabolic products in muscle cells, in particular, pain is caused by an excessive amount of lactic acid (lactate) 2 . Less commonly, a microtrauma becomes the cause, but this can only be observed if the training rules are violated 8 .

Muscle soreness due to fatigue does not occur immediately, but after a few hours or within 1-2 days after training or unusual physical activity and disappears within a week 8 .

    Injuries

Severe pain can occur when muscle fibers and tendons are torn. This usually happens if the load is excessive, and the muscles are not prepared for it 1 . However, they can also be damaged by sudden movements 3 . In contrast to the “ache” in muscle overwork, pain due to injury occurs immediately, at the peak of the load 3 .

It should be remembered that even a small but untreated injury can cause even more pronounced sprain 3 . Therefore, if you experience pain during exercise, be sure to consult a doctor to rule out a serious injury.

    Muscle inflammation

Inflammatory process in muscle tissue (myositis) can occur due to hypothermia, infection or accumulation of toxic substances 16.17 . Sometimes inflammation is limited to one muscle group. When muscles ache all over the body, this can be a sign of autoimmune diseases and other serious illnesses 7 .

Diseases of the spine and joints

Muscles respond to dysfunction of the joints associated with them 4 and vertebrae 5 . Therefore, myalgia is one of the symptoms of diseases of the spine 5.11 and joints of the extremities 4 . For example, with osteochondrosis or scoliosis (curvature of the spine), pain in the neck, chest or lower back is associated with overstrain of the paravertebral muscles 5.11 . And in advanced cases, when a vertebra compresses the nerve root coming out of the spinal cord, the pain can “radiate” to the arm or leg 11 . nine0003

Often, myalgia in osteochondrosis is combined with a feeling of numbness or “crawling”. At the moment of acute pain, the person freezes, taking a forced position 11 .

    Stress

Prolonged emotional stress affects the activity of brain regions involved in pain control. No muscle damage can be detected, but nevertheless, the person complains of discomfort or soreness, which is most often chronic 11 .

    ARVI and flu

Aches in muscles and joints with colds and flu 9 – the result of exposure to muscle receptors of bacteria, viruses and substances that are formed in tissues during infection 10 . Simultaneously with muscle pain, body temperature usually rises and symptoms of damage to various parts of the respiratory tract occur: runny nose, cough and sore throat 9 .

    Other causes

Almost any disease of the internal organs can lead to myalgia 11 . When any organ is affected, it creates pain impulses, which are partially transmitted to the muscles located nearby 11 .

Myalgia can also be caused by:

    • endocrine diseases, for example, deficiency of thyroid hormones 16.7 ;
    • vascular pathologies that disrupt the nutrition of the muscles of the limbs 15.16 ;
    • chronic fatigue syndrome 7 ;
    • imbalance of trace elements in the body 16 ;
    • taking cholesterol-lowering drugs 12 .

    Features of myalgia

Muscle pain, usually deep 6 . Acute myalgia is protective in nature, because it causes reactions aimed at eliminating the damaging factor 11 . Such reactions include, for example, muscle spasm 4 . But despite the protective nature, there is almost always a risk that the pain will become chronic 11 . There are 2 main causes of chronicity:

    • Hypersensitivity. In response to irritation, substances are released in the muscle that support inflammation. They further irritate the pain receptors in the muscles. In response to frequent signals, the central nervous system lowers the pain threshold, so we can feel pain in the muscle even if it is not strongly irritated 11 .
    • Spasm. When pain and spasm persist, a “vicious circle” is formed: pain causes spasm, and spasm maintains pain 1.5, 11 .

    Diagnosis of muscle pain

Determining why myalgia occurs is not always easy. Only a doctor can understand the causes and choose a treatment that helps get rid of the disturbing symptoms or alleviate them. To find out the cause of myalgia, the doctor conducts a comprehensive examination, including a neurological one, prescribes laboratory tests, ultrasound, computed tomography and other research methods 3 .

Myalgia is treated by different specialists. Depending on its cause, a traumatologist, rheumatologist, neurologist or endocrinologist can help you. nine0003

    Treatments for myalgia

Treatment of muscle pain includes non-drug and drug treatments 5.13 . In each case, the doctor selects individual methods of therapy.

One of the main tasks is pain relief 5.13 . In the fight against pain, doctors are guided by the “pain ladder” developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). It recommends the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as the first step or step in the treatment of mild to moderate pain 6 such as MOTRIN® 14 . The drug is approved for use by adults and adolescents over 15 years of age 14 .

The active substance of MOTRIN® – naproxen – has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects. The drug can be used as part of a complex treatment of mild to moderate muscle pain associated with trauma, inflammation and diseases of the musculoskeletal system 14 . One dose of MOTRIN® is enough for up to 12 hours 14 . The drug can be used up to 5 days 14 .

It is imperative that you consult your doctor, since symptomatic treatment and taking painkillers do not replace the main treatment of the disease 5 . If acute pain persists, the doctor may use other methods of pain relief 13 .

    Non-drug treatments for myalgia include 13 :

    • manual therapy;
    • massage; nine0173

    • Why postoperative pains
    • How to reduce postoperative pain
    • How long does postoperative pain last

The number of surgical interventions is growing 1 , surgical techniques and methods of anesthesia are being improved. However, postoperative pain remains an expected phenomenon and still requires the attention of doctors. Intense pain syndrome, which is observed in at least 40% of patients 1 , aggravates the course of the recovery period, contributes to the development of complications 2 , increases the recovery time, and can turn into a chronic process 3 .

The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) adopted a declaration in 2010 that recognized adequate pain management as a fundamental human right 3 .

According to large studies 4 high intensity of postoperative pain is noted by patients after obstetric, gynecological, orthopedic and abdominal (on the abdominal organs) surgical interventions, which are associated with postoperative pain in the abdomen, chest, joints. The characteristics of pain in the first day are very important, it is she who determines how the pain syndrome will develop in the future and whether it will become chronic 4 .

    Why postoperative pain occurs

Postoperative pain according to ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) refers to unspecified types of pain and does not carry any signal information either for the patient or for the doctor, since its causes and mechanisms are clear occurrence. Therefore, the modern principles of managing patients after surgery provide for maximum relief from unpleasant pain. Moreover, pain has a negative impact not only on healing, but also on vital processes in the body: the work of the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, central nervous systems, as well as blood coagulation 4 .

The formation of painful sensations is provided by a multilevel reaction that connects the immediate area of damage (wound surface) and the central nervous system. It begins with mechanical stimuli in the area of the incision and release of biologically active substances (prostaglandins, bradykinins and others) 4 , and ends with the processing of information in the cerebral cortex and the connection of emotional and psychological components.

Pain syndrome develops as a result of the appearance of areas of increased pain sensitivity (hyperalgesia). Primary hyperalgesia is directly related to injury and forms near the wound. The area of secondary hyperalgesia covers a larger area and occurs later, within the next 12-18 hours 4 , as it is associated with stimulation of other types of receptors. It is she who is responsible for the preservation and intensification of pain sensations on the second or third day after the operation, and subsequently, for the development of chronic pain syndrome 7 .

    How to reduce postoperative pain

Specialists refer to the tasks of postoperative pain relief 4 :

    • quality recovery period,
    • acceleration of rehabilitation and discharge from the hospital,
    • reduction in the number of complications, including the development of chronic postoperative pain.

The most effective is the so-called multimodal regimen 4 for postoperative pain relief, the concept of which involves the use of an optimal combination of drugs from different groups in minimal doses 4 .

Groups of drugs used as pain relievers after surgery:

    1. Opioid analgesics. Traditionally considered the basis for surgical anesthesia, however, their isolated use gives the expected result in only 25-30% of cases 4 , and the introduction of the maximum effective dose is associated with a high risk of side effects 4 , including respiratory depression. Also, after their cancellation, even greater pain sensitivity often occurs.
    2. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The formation of postoperative pain syndrome is directly related to tissue injury and inflammation. Therefore, the appointment of NSAIDs, as drugs with a powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, is indicated from the first minutes after surgery, and sometimes during surgery. nine0173

They act directly on the cause of the development of hypersensitivity, namely the production of prostaglandins and other biologically active substances involved in the inflammatory process. There are methods that suggest using NSAIDs 20-30 minutes before the incision, which reduces the intensity of pain in the area of postoperative sutures. 4

When prescribed with drugs from the previous group, NSAIDs make it possible to reduce the dose and enhance the effect of opioids and prevent their side effects 4 .

    1. Centrally acting non-opioid analgesics. They do not affect the mechanisms of inflammation, but are able to suppress secondary increased pain sensitivity at the level of transmission of nerve impulses. Their use half an hour before the end of the operation ensures a calm and painless awakening after anesthesia 4 . They have proven themselves in complex anesthesia.
    2. Drugs that affect the perception of pain. Introduced to prevent hypersensitivity and the development of chronic pain syndrome 4 .
    3. Regional anesthesia (analgesia). Application of the method is based on the interruption of the flow of pain impulses from the damaged area to the spinal cord and brain 4 .

For each patient, a comprehensive pain relief regimen is selected individually. Factors such as age, gender, volume of surgical intervention, comorbidities, mental characteristics, sensitivity to pain and its presence before surgery are taken into account.

How long does postoperative pain last

This question cannot be answered unequivocally, but acute pain disappears completely when scar tissue is formed and there are no more grounds for the occurrence of pain impulses. How long this period will last depends on the patient himself – the ability of his body’s tissues to regenerate (recovery), the adequacy of pain relief, psychological mood and general condition.

If pain in the area of postoperative sutures lasts more than 3 months, with or without interruptions, and is not associated with the healing process, then these are signs of the development of a chronic pain syndrome. It is based on nerve damage or the formation of pathological impulses 6 . The frequency of its development ranges from 5 to 50% (on average, every fifth patient 6 ) and is one of the indicators of the success of surgical treatment 7 . This difference is explained by the difference in the methods of intervention and their trauma 7 .

For the formation of chronic postoperative pain, including scars, predisposing factors are 6 :

    • female gender;
    • under 35 years old 6 ;
    • stress, preoperative anxiety, preoperative pain;
    • type of intervention – if surgical treatment is associated with a high probability of damage to large nerves (amputations of limbs, operations on the chest organs, removal of the mammary glands), then the risk of chronic pain is much higher;
    • duration of operation;
    • during the postoperative period – intense acute pain, large doses of analgesics, the use of radiation and chemotherapy;
    • nine0170 excessive guardianship and support from loved ones in the recovery period,

    • prolonged bed rest.

Prevention of the development of chronic pain syndrome is carried out in several stages:

    1. Primary – associated with the surgical intervention itself: if possible, the choice of a non-surgical method of treatment, the operation is performed in the least traumatic way, for example, the use of endoscopic techniques.

    2. nine0170 Secondary – intensive pain relief after surgery. This is the most promising method that can be supplemented with the preoperative administration of analgesics, which contributes to the weakening of pain impulses after the intervention. Various analgesics, NSAIDs, regional anesthesia, sedatives are used as painkillers after surgery 7 .

Motrin® is one of the drugs in the group that helps to fight acute and chronic postoperative pain. Available in tablets of 250 mg. It has a pronounced anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, which can last up to 12 hours 9 . In the postoperative period (in traumatology, orthopedics, gynecology, maxillofacial surgery) it can be taken by adults and children over 15 years old 8 .

Children of older groups built the city of the future and environmentally friendly cars. While playing, the children repeated the rules of the road, chose safe routes.

Also in the course of the work, the educators, together with the pupils of the older groups, discussed why people become inventors, how important it is to engage in technical creativity in the modern world.
