We are sharing information with you about our participation in a program that helps us test for lead in the drinking water at our centers. This program is provided by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s (TCEQ) Lead Testing in School and Child Care Program (LTSCC). It is a voluntary statewide program that offers free training and guidance on how to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water where children are cared for. Financial support is made possible by the TCEQ and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

We anticipate collecting drinking water samples within the next 45 days.

Activities will include: Identifying outlets used for drinking and food preparation, collecting water samples at those outlets, analyzing collected samples using an accredited drinking water laboratory, reviewing results and taking action to reduce exposure to lead, as needed, communicating the results to our community, and, continuing to work on reducing any potential lead exposure at our facility.

Lead is a heavy metal, and some drinking water pipes, tapss, solder, and other plumbing materials contain lead. For more information about the sources of lead and health effects of lead, please visit the EPA’s “Basic Information about Lead in Drinking Water” webpage here.

Results will be available on TCEQ’s LTSCC Program webpage at texasleadtesting.org

For more information about the LTSCC Program, you can visit the program webpage, email [email protected], or call the helpline at (737) 276-1987.

Johnnie Cochran, biography, high profile, business, philanthropy

He is called one of the greatest lawyers USA, his words instantly turned into quotes and became part of folklore, he served as a prototype for many characters in literature and cinema. His clients were both ordinary citizens and pop and sports celebrities, including: football players O. James Simpson, Jim Brown, actor Todd Bridges, rappers Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, and even Michael Jackson.

Born Johnnie Cochran (Johnnie L. Cochran) in 1937 in Louisiana. His great-great-grandfather was a slave, his grandfather was a sharecropper, picking a small plot of land, his father was a small businessman. And yet, Cochran graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles and subsequently received a law degree from Loyola Law School.

His decision to become a lawyer was largely influenced by attorney Thurgood Marshall and Brown v. Commission on Education. In 1954, in a high-profile case, Marshall argued in court that segregating white and black children infringes on the latter’s right to a decent education. Since in practice the conditions of training and the level of material and technical training were very different.

Cochran later wrote in his biography that this incident showed him how effective law can be as a social instrument. “I wanted to be a part of it,” he said. — I wanted to fight… I saw that jurisprudence is something that can change society for the better, something that will allow me to make my own contribution to the defense of the poor and oppressed. I went this way, and nothing could turn me off the path. Nobody and nothing.”

After graduating from law school, Cochran worked for the Los Angeles prosecutor’s office, rising to the rank of deputy city attorney for criminal cases. At that time, he was the first and only black lawyer in the prosecutor’s office. Despite a successful career, he later left the civil service.

Two years after graduation, J. Cochran transferred to a private law firm, and a little later opened his own firm, Cochran, Atkins & Evans. His first significant case in the newly created enterprise was the lawsuit of the widow of a black driver who was killed by police officers who mistakenly took him for a criminal. The case was lost, but Cochran did not regard this as a defeat. He realized that such cases could stir up the African American population and make them fight for their rights. The case had a significant impact.

By the end of the 1970s, Johnny Cochran was already a well-known lawyer. His specialty was police abuse lawsuits, and he worked hard to get the Los Angeles Police Department to stop treating blacks as notorious criminals. His firm was literally overwhelmed with such cases, and there was no end to clients.

Many of J. Cochran’s cases had public outcry. One day, the police shot and killed a young man who was speeding while taking his pregnant wife to the hospital. Another time a patrolman killed 19-year-old guy looking after a child in a strange house – the poor fellow was mistaken for a robber (the victims, of course, were blacks).

Gradually, Cochran’s legal practice grew to such an extent that he began to earn about a million dollars a year.

    Case “O. J. Simpson.

But wide popularity came to Cochran in the mid-90s of the last century. It was he who was the defender of American football superstar O. J. Simpson, accused of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her lover Ronald Goldman. During the trial, Johnny ordered Simpson to put on the bloody “killer gloves”, after which he told the jury: “If the glove doesn’t fit, you must acquit” (“If the glove does not fit, he must be acquitted”). This phrase instantly became catchphrase. In the end, all murder charges against Simpson were dropped?

In 1995, after the end of the Simpson trial, Johnny Cochran was named the National Law Journal’s Best Lawyer of the Year, and Time magazine proclaimed him one of the people whose name most often hit the headlines. In 2000, Cochran was named one of America’s 100 Most Powerful Lawyers.

A year later, a survey was conducted among lawyers and law school students: “Who do you think is the best lawyer of the twentieth century?” Cochran was named fourth – after by Clarence Darrow, Gerry Spence and Thurgood Marshall.

Rapper Sean Combs (stage name Puff Daddy), singer Michael Jackson, actor Todd Bridges, soccer player Jim Brown and many other celebrities have used the services of Johnny Cochran. And it is no coincidence: Cochran never approached the matter formally, in his affairs there was always a creative approach and a share of adventure.

Such a case is noteworthy. One of his clients claimed that he was mistaken for a real robber. At the hearing, Cochran asked the victim to identify the perpetrator. She confidently pointed to the man sitting at the defense table: “Here he is!” – she said. However, the lawyer seated the accused in the auditorium in advance, and invited another man to the defense table, about the same build and age. As a result, Cochran’s client was released in the courtroom.

In addition to his professional work, Johnny Cochran has written two books, Journey to Justice and A Lawyer’s Life (co-authored with David Fisher). In addition, he hosted a television program on the human rights television channel (Court TV) for three years.

The public was also aware of his cynical position regarding the justice system.

Johnnie Cochran used to wear a T-shirt that said, “Innocent Until I’m Broken.” “Don’t dream of justice if you don’t have money. Jurisprudence is a system that runs on money like gasoline. Many people absolutely do not care what happens to poor people, ”he said in one of his interviews.

It is for this reason that Cochran and his associates launched the national campaign “Project Innocence”. They compared the DNA samples of the criminals with those of the accused. As a result, more than 100 people were released. “Our justice system is slipping, but it can be fixed. That’s what we do,” said Johnny Cochran.

He often initiated the defense of the rights of citizens. After the attack on New York in 2001, the government was going to restrict a number of civil liberties under the auspices of the fight against terrorism. “Terror cannot be fought by infringing on freedom,” Cochran said at the time. – This is madness. It is unthinkable to arrest a person just because he is an Arab. If you think that it’s all about the color of the skin, then it’s not about fighting terrorists, but about ordinary racism. Every day, Cochran received 10 to 15 invitations in the mail to speak to one audience or another. Of course, it was impossible to agree with everyone, but he tried to appear in public as often as possible: this gave him the opportunity to convey his ideas to the widest possible audience.

In 1998, Cochran founded the Art Fund with $250,000; he was also a constant sponsor of various cultural events – exhibitions, vernissages, etc.

Johnnie Cochran also established a scholarship for African American students at the University of California and established the Early Learning Center at the Second Baptist Church, of which he has been a member for over 40 years. Cochran taught at the University of California School of Law, Loyola Law School (where he studied), and lectured at Harvard University.

In addition, J. Cochran has established himself as a very successful businessman. In the late 1990s, he abandoned criminal cases and switched completely to civil law. Soon his company merged with Schneider, Kleinick, Weitz, Damashek & Shoot to form a new one. The mission of the new firm was reflected in a commercial that Cochran launched on television: “It would be a big mistake to say that I only take on the cases of the rich and famous,” he said. – My goal is to seek justice not only for the Simpsons and Jacksons, but also for ordinary people. We represent their interests with no less perseverance.”

The Cochran Firm established seven offices in major US cities and began to position itself as a “plaintiffs firm”. She specialized in cases related to car accidents, medical errors, fraud, discrimination, inaction of authorities, etc.

Johnny Cochran believed that the creation of The Cochran Firm was a natural step in his career.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academies of Greensboro, we recognize the importance of incorporating technology into the classroom. Our state of the art technology department is the perfect way to get children acclimated to the world of computers and learn the skills needed for Kindergarten readiness! Furthermore, students 3 and 4 years old receive their very own account with ABCMouse, an interactive early learning website, to continue learning at school and at home!

Through our partnership with ABCMouse, our curriculum includes hundreds of computer-based interactive activities that children love and which also provide opportunities for parents to be actively involved in their child’s learning. These activities include games, songs, books, and more, all of which have many academic and developmental benefits for young children.

This early learning website is designed for kids ages 2 to 6 and includes more than 3,000 interactive learning activities covering the basics of reading, math, science and social studies. For example, themed environments such as the Classroom, The Zoo and The Farm and a reward system helps kids develop math skills with a virtual shopping experience in a fun learning environment. Parents can breathe easy knowing that ABCmouse.com is safe and secure from the internet with your parent password to keep your child engaged in learning. The best part is your child can access the website anywhere at anytime!

We believe technology has the ability to enrich a child’s life when used as an additional learning tool and is not intended to replace traditional play or an existing school curriculum. Additionally, the use of technology in the home can be an advantage to a child if educators can more easily communicate a child’s learning goals so that a parent can reinforce what is being taught in school. Nurse educator job outlook

The overall employment of nurse educators is expected to grow 22% from 2020-2030, much faster than other occupations according to the BLS. The projected increase in nurse educator jobs is believed to be due in part to an aging population that is living longer and thus has a greater need for nursing care.

    What do nurse educators do?

Nurse educators teach and train students in nursing school to help them prepare to become nurses. They are often instructors for clinical professionals who need continuing education or training. Nurse educators may hold a variety of positions with varied titles such as professor, director, or faculty member. As an instructor, they design educational programs and curriculum to help ensure courses meet the state accreditation requirements, overseeing lab and clinical work, and providing feedback as students interact with patients. Certified Nurse Educator Salary Guide

Home » Nurse Educator » Salary

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) says certified nurse educators (CNEs) earn a median annual salary of $77,440 for roles that include training in clinical practice, classroom instruction at community colleges and universities, or executive oversight of academic nursing programs and faculty.

If you are thinking about a career as a nurse educator, now is a good time to consider your options. A current shortage of nurse educators is expected to fuel job growth of 21 percent through 2031, considerably above the 5 percent forecast for all occupations.

The BLS classifies nurse educators who teach at colleges, medical and surgical hospitals, and technical, trade, and business schools as “postsecondary nursing instructors and teachers”—and “there are simply not enough of them to meet the nation’s needs,” says Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, president and CEO of the National League for Nursing (NLN).

In a recent survey of nursing schools by the NLN, 74 percent of respondents indicated they had difficulty filling faculty positions, and many remained unfilled.

U.S. nursing schools turned away more than 91,000 qualified applicants to undergraduate and graduate programs in 2021.

According to Robert Rosseter, chief communications officer for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, U.S. nursing schools turned away more than 91,938 qualified applicants to undergraduate and graduate programs in 2021, and most indicated that faculty shortages were a top reason.

All of which means that if you want to be a nurse educator, the odds are in your favor.

Actual salaries vary depending on location, level of education, years of experience, work environment, and other factors. Salaries may differ even more for those who are self-employed or work part time.

The BLS says salaries can range widely, depending on factors such as:

    • Your education
    • Your experience
    • Where you live
    • Where you work

The dean of a nursing school at a highly regarded university located in a major metro area, who likely has a doctorate, may earn a salary at the top range of the pay scale, while an instructor at a community college may earn less.

Salary Comparison: Nurse Educator vs Careers that Require Postgraduate Education

Here’s a look at how the average salary for a nurse educator compares with pay for nursing positions that require either a master’s or a doctorate.

    Demand for Nurse Educators

In addition to the shortage of teachers, there are two other important factors driving the forecast of 21 percent job growth:

    Teacher retirements

According to the NLN, 70 percent of full-time nurse educators are over the age of 45, and a significant number are nearing retirement age. This is expected to create even more vacancies at colleges and universities.

    Nurse shortage

By 2024, the U.S. is expected to face a shortage of nearly one million nurses, “from entry-level RNs to the most senior and experienced nursing specialists,” says Joseph Dunmire, a board member of the National Association of Healthcare Recruitment. “Finding nurses to fill all of those roles will be problematic.

To minimize this shortage, more nurse educators will be needed to teach, inspire, and mentor the next generation of nurses.

    Competition for Jobs

The demand for nurse educators may be high, but there could be some competition for jobs because employers tend to look for the best and most qualified candidates.

Donna R. Swope, MS, RN, an adjunct professor of nursing at Stevenson University, says that taking the follow steps can make you a stronger nurse educator when you graduate and enhance your resume:

If you are on an educator track, stay in clinical nursing to graduate with the latest knowledge of clinical trends.

To practice your teaching skills, take every opportunity to work with nursing students at any level. For example: Accept a student to work with you when you are the primary nurse, or serve as a preceptor for seniors in their final clinical practicum or for new hires.

To gain experience working on policy issues, become a member of the professional nursing organization for your specialty and work to help frame policies to enhance patient care and influence cultural attitudes toward students and new nurses.

“Honestly, the core of all this is that we want educators who, while still in their clinical role, light up at the prospect of working with students,” Swope says. “It can’t be just that someone can deliver compelling class content, although of course we want that, too.”

    Location, Location, Location

Another factor to consider is geographic location. If moving is an option, consider cities where jobs are more plentiful. This may increase your chances of landing your dream teaching position—and increasing your salary.
