The Throne Room and Ballroom

The Throne Room, Buckingham Palace

There are three royal thrones in the Throne Room. See if you can work out who sat on each one. There’s one that’s smaller than the others – because the woman it was made for – Queen Victoria – wasn’t very tall.

Today, the Throne Room forms a grand background for official photographs, including the wedding of Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton in 2011.

The Ballroom is the largest room in the Palace – big enough to hold 84 double-decker buses. Nowadays the room is used to host state banquets when there is an official visit by a head of state, for example a king or queen from another country.

There is a hidden door in the State Rooms from the Royal Family’s private apartments. See if you can spot the door in the White Drawing Room when you visit. The large painting above the fireplace in this room shows Queen Alexandra. She was wife of Edward VII  – who was Queen Victoria’s eldest son.

There are many statues in the Marble Hall. Make sure to have a look at the sculpture at the bottom of the stairs. It’s by a famous sculptor called Canova. The statue shows the Roman god of war – Mars, with Venus, goddess of love. The statue is over 2 metres tall and was carved from a single block of marble. See if you can spot two other statues carved by the same person in this room.

You’ll see this room after you’ve climbed the Grand Staircase near the start of your visit to Buckingham Palace. On one of the walls there’s a painting of George III’s three youngest daughters. Princess Mary is playing with her 2-year-old sister – Princess Amelia. How many animals can you spot in the painting?

When you’re in the Music Room look carefully at the tall dark blue columns. If they were made of stone they would have been very heavy. But the secret is they are actually a type of plaster that is blended so the swirls of colours look like stone – in this case a blue stone called lapis lazuli. This is a technique known as scagliola (pronounced scah-lee-o-la). In the past more of the rooms in the Palace had columns made to look like different types of stone, but most of them have been painted over now.

Many of the State Rooms have amazing decorated and gilded ceilings that are easy to miss if you don’t stop and look up occasionally (just make sure you aren’t in other people’s way at the time!). In the Music Room the ceiling is decorated with rose, shamrock and thistle – the national emblems for England, Ireland and Scotland.

Can you find this clock in the State Dining Room?

There are 500 clocks at Buckingham Palace of all shapes and sizes, which show the changing fashions over the centuries and the tastes and interests of successive monarchs. Among them are musical clocks, organ clocks, astronomical clocks, and mechanical clocks. When the clocks change in spring and autumn it takes over 50 hours for the horologists (people who look after clocks) to update them all in Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Did you know the gardens at Buckingham Palace are a huge 16 hectares (that’s about 16 rugby pitches or 16 Trafalgar Squares all lined up next to each other). It’s hard to imagine a garden that large in the centre of such a busy city isn’t it? It’s full of lots of wildlife – including birds, fish and insects.

During the Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace look out for some wildlife and their different habitats using our garden trail (one of our helpful Wardens can give you a copy before you walk down the garden path). The trail also tells the stories of some of the exciting events that have occurred in the garden.

Cosmonautics Day

Cosmonautics Day

AT THE PALACE OF CHILDREN’S CREATIVITY

On April 12, 2021, Russia and the whole world celebrated the 60th anniversary of Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin’s first space flight. This event remains a key event in the history of astronautics and the history of human civilization as a whole.

Interesting and informative events were devoted to this significant event in the Palace of Children’s Creativity:

city correspondence competition of children’s drawing and arts and crafts “SPACE DALES” for students of municipal schools and those studying in institutions of additional education;

city correspondence master class “AMAZING WORLD OF SPACE!” (non-traditional drawing techniques – dry pastel on fine-grained sandpaper) within the framework of the city Methodological Association of teachers of fine arts, teachers of additional education in fine arts and arts and crafts, educators of preschool institutions;

urban cognitive online quiz “SPACE MARATHON” .

City Correspondence Competition of Children’s Drawings “Space Distances” is held by the Department of Education on the basis of the Palace of Children’s Creativity in three age groups: grades 1-4, grades 5-8, grades 9-11. The technique of execution is the most diverse: painting, graphics (drawing, etching, engraving, linocut, letterpress printing), sculpture, arts and crafts (ceramics, paper plastic).

Each teacher and leader sent no more than three works to the Organizing Committee, sent 2 photos (a child with a work in his hands and a separate photo of the work itself with labeling).

The results of the Contest will be summed up on April 30, 2021.

All submitted works will be posted in the VKontakte group Palace of Children’s Art in Taganrog. An exposition of the best drawings will be organized from the creative works of the winners of the competition.

Winners and prize-winners of the Competition in each nomination and age group are awarded with electronic Diplomas of the Department of Education.

Master class “The amazing world of space!” conducted by a teacher of additional education of the highest qualification category Dadayan Natalya Mikhailovna.

To participate, everyone went to the DDT YouTube channel at the link https :// youtu . BE / ANOO _ QSXC 5 G , which posts the master class

More than 35 educators and teachers of fine arts took part in the correspondence master class. The most active were the teachers of preschool institutions (MBDOU d / s No. 13/38, 24, 39, 62, 67, 71, 76, “Healthy Child”).

After posting their work on Instagram with the mark @ddt_taganrog and hashtag #GAGARIN60 , everyone received electronic certificates of the master class participant.

City online quiz has become interesting and informative “SPACE MARATHON” , which took place on the Instagram Network. Everyone was able to answer the quiz questions and test their knowledge of space.

Cosmonautics Day at DDT was bright, interesting and informative!

“Dedication to astronautics” – Pavilions of the Mikhailovsky Castle

December 17, 2021—March 12, 2022

The action is a kind of continuation of the exhibition “Cosmism in Russian Art” , which is taking place these days in the Benois Wing. Just like the artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, whose work reflected the ideas of cosmism, modern media artists continue to think about the laws of the universe and theories of its origin, about the relationship between micro- and macrocosm, and about the place of man in the evolution of global space. They embody their ideas using the language of contemporary art, with the help of the wide possibilities of the latest digital technologies. The space in which the demonstration of works of new digital art became possible was the electronic exposition of the Multimedia Center of the Russian Museum, an innovative experimental platform where the Russian Museum implements projects related to the integration of digital technologies into the museum space. In addition to the digital exposition, during the “Dedication to Cosmonautics” campaign the Multimedia Center will host film screenings, online lectures, dance and audiovisual performances, musical improvisations and master classes.

The basis of the action “Dedication to Cosmonautics” was digital exposition , which unfolded on two floors of the Multimedia Center of the Russian Museum. The exposition consists of the multimedia project “Astronaut” and the digital installation “Place for the Future of Mankind”, dedicated to the topic of space exploration, the future associated with it and the distant past of human civilization.

The exposition of the first floor is opened by multimedia project “Astronaut” , created by a team of contemporary artists, directors, artists and composers under the guidance of the famous St. Petersburg media artist Lera Nibiru. The project, dedicated to the interpretation of the latest astronomical theories and mysteries of ancient history, was based on Lera Nibiru’s play “John Smith, Astronaut”, which was read in 2020 at the Marble Palace. The play is devoted to the issues of time paradoxes and out of place artifacts, as well as the history of the formation of the solar system in its current form. Spectators will witness fantastic events related to the landing of a spaceship and the mysterious life of ancient ruins, plunge into the world of philosophical observations of the passage of time, physical processes, micro- and macrocosms, and their artistic transformations.

On the second floor of the Multimedia Center there is a digital installation “Place for the Future of Humanity”, created by artists, musicians and composers from Russia, Great Britain, Switzerland and Israel ─ Dmitry Matkovsky, Ilya Teplov, Sergey Kondrashkin and others, under the guidance of media artist Vitaly Vinogradov. The installation is dedicated to Man, his sense of himself as a part of the Infinite and the Highest and the desire to know the unknown cosmic distances. The central figure of the installation is the “Centaur”, a biocyborg designed to fly into space in search of a “wonderful new world”. The authors of the installation offer two scenarios for the development of the future of mankind – this is the natural evolution of life in the Universe and the designed new forms of life and scientific achievements in the field of xenobiology and xenotechnology.

Children’s Quest Home Daycare & Learning Center Evanston IL 60202

From the very first moment that we visited with Meredith we knew that we wanted her to work with our child. We met when I was 7 months pregnant and loved everything about the program she runs. It is unique, artistic, creative, and very loving. The day we left our visit with Meredith we were both beyond excited to send our child here. We knew in that moment no other center or in-home daycare even came close to theirs. ”

_____________________

“We have been continuously impressed by Meredith’s expertise and gentle care of our daughter. Meredith is so sweet and thoughtful with each child. Our daughter loves going to school every day, and we have watched her grow and learn at an astonishing rate, in no small part due to Meredith’s teaching methods.”

__________________

“I instantly felt aligned with the curriculum Meredith created, and love that the artistic greats, including Mozart, Shakespeare, e. e. cummings, Ella Fitzgerald and so many more, have been introduced to my daughter so early on. But the greatest part is that they are not just taught and forgotten, their art is experienced by toddlers. They paint in the method of Kandinsky, they are greeted in the morning with the music of Mozart, they play musical instruments along with Dizzy Gillespie, they fall asleep to recitations of poetry.”

_________________

“We’ve watched our son blossom from a tentative, somewhat shy 15 months to a confident, self-motivated, exuberant almost three-year-old. Our son comes home talking about the oboe, an expedition to the North Pole, his appreciation of Beethoven, and the deer that make regular appearances in the woods on property (which have been designated a protected wildlife habitat). Meredith also has invaluable experience with the major transitions of this phase of a child’s life, and has counseled us and guided our son with love and care.

______________

“It was clear that Meredith spent a huge amount of time talking with the kids: about their activities, about holidays, about everything. By taking their responses seriously, she helped them to master the give and take of conversation and taught them that their contributions matter.”

____________

“Meredith’s practice of introducing the kids to cultural masterpieces meant that our daughter lit up when her sister learned the theme from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony on the piano, both because she recognized that Beethoven was a famous composer and because she was familiar with his music. That is to say, Meredith taught her to be part of all of the conversations around her, rather than confining her to an over-simplified, supposedly kid-friendly realm.”

______________

“Meredith validates our son’s emotions, and helps him figure out how he is feeling, name the emotion, and communicate it. As he became more verbally expressive, she encouraged him to express his needs and feelings both to her and to the other children. Under Meredith’s guidance, our son is very aware of his feelings and expressive of his wants and needs.

______________

Meredith’s curriculum and her style of teaching are unparalleled! She makes learning fun. She continuously brings in new books, poems, art and music, creating a stimulating and creative environment.”

______________

“When our son cried for the first few days because it was his first time in daycare away from his parents, Meredith created a booklet with pictures of our son doing fun activities during the day. We read this to him in the morning to help him remember each day what he had to look forward to. The pictures had simple, readable labels so that going through the booklet also helped his reading development. Soon he was able to read and recite the book along with us in the morning and there were no more tears when he dropped him off at day care.”

______________

“On separate occasions, our son recognized a poster by Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, whom he learned about at Meredith’s, and one time he sat down at our family piano made his typical noises by banging on the keys, and said, ‘I’m playing the piano like Art Tatum!’

______________

“Meredith provides opportunities for young children to investigate whatever phenomenon captures their attention and then supports them in their pursuit of deeper understanding – assuring that their reach always exceeds their grasp. By the end of his time at Meredith’s, our son could write his name and loved to draw, craft, build, sing, dance, and explore.”

______________

“The personal attention to each child’s needs is one of the most special things about Children’s Quest. The small size of the daycare enables Meredith to encourage each child to pursue what is of interest to him or her. For example, when our son became obsessed with mechanical things, Meredith incorporated activities that let him explore this emerging fascination. We admire the way she develops an overarching program for the children as a group and then carefully responds to each child’s particular interests to develop special components of her daily routine.”

_____________

“The children get an extraordinary amount of time outside, playing on stumps and hanging from monkey bars, observing insects and bird’s nests, running and jumping. The difference between this real encounter with nature and the outdoor time offered at some of the other facilities we considered is vast.”

I was looking where to stop by with my whole life in one car to have a chance of it not being stolen, so I choose to stay away from the big city. In the morning the car was still there!!! With all the stuff! So I’m betond happy. Oh yeah, and they let me check out one hr later so I can swim in the pool to unload my back after 14 hrs driving which was awesome as well. Best of luck to this business, good stuff and good crowd, had a nice conversation over breakfast with other patrons. 12/10.

I was riding a motorcycle and the staff was very accommodating. Gave me a room in front near my motorcycle and even let me park near the front door under cover. The room was exactly what I would expect regarding amenities, but it was clean and as nice as any Motel 6 I’ve ever visited. The price was fantastic, particularly when the staff is so helpful and friendly. The diner across the street was also convenient and great food.

Learn more about how to place an order here.

Chairman of the innovation center “Siyanie” Lyubov Kalinina: “Our children make us kinder”

Chairman of the innovation center “Siyanie” Lyubov Kalinina: “Our children make us kinder” | Nizhny Novgorod truth

    “Our children make us kinder”

Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Public Organization of the Disabled “Innovation Center in the XXI century with 21 chromosomes “Shine” Lyubov KALININA:

their place in this life and brought love and benefit. Nizhny Novgorod Regional Public Organization of the Disabled “Innovation Center: Into the 21st Century with Chromosome 21” Radiance is an organization that, since May 19, 2009, has been uniting families raising children with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. Now it is more than 250 families.

We provide families with information and psychological support. The center operates an early intervention service for children with special needs from birth to 4 years of age. We provide group and individual developmental classes for children from the age of one. We prepare children 6-8 years old for school. There is an extension program for schoolchildren, during which art therapy classes are held, in a theater studio, a folklore ensemble and, of course, football and gymnastics.

The day after my birth, I was told that my long-awaited child was suspected of having Down’s syndrome. It was 16 years ago. After the diagnosis was announced to me, at first I did not know how to live on and what to do with such a child. Thanks to my loved ones who helped me in these difficult days of acceptance and becoming after birth.

Before, when I saw such children, I was very afraid of them, I did not know what to expect from them and how to behave. Now I know.

Fate brought me together with the same mothers in the regional center for social assistance to families and children “Young Nizhny Novgorod”. We decided to unite to solve the common problems of our children and share information. We were then eight families. The premises were provided to us by father Igor Balabanov with mother Olga in the church of St. Sergius of Radonezh. Found a defectologist, began to organize classes for children. New families came. When we already had more than 20 families, it became crowded in two rooms at the temple. And just one day a week.

Children learn to communicate in the classes at the Siyaniye Center.

Exactly five years ago we opened our family center “Solnechny Dom”. We can come here with the whole family to classes, on holidays, sing songs, dance and meet guests, introduce children.

I have been in the organization from the first day, but I became the leader two years later. Then I began to go to the ministries, to talk about the organization. Then I began to write letters to all instances, to all parties, to all administrations with a request to allocate a room for us to conduct classes. As a result, the city administration offered us a choice of two premises in the Kanavinsky district. We chose a room at 1, Iskra Street, although many parents said it was too big.

We have been doing major repairs for almost three years. We found partners, raised funds, came with families, washed, painted, brought equipment. –During this time I met many amazing families, caring and kind people.

Many people who just came to help. Evgeniy Latypov from Nizhny Novgorod surprised us the most when he called and offered to hold a competition for the installation of plastic windows in our center. Eugene brought us windows, bought gifts for all the guys, and organized tea and refreshments. When they came to shoot us in the Stroy! program, they didn’t believe us that this happens: without advertising, without any conditions, just like that, without money, they installed new windows for us.

There was also an interesting story. It’s about wish fulfillment! We prepared the program for June 1st. The day before, it was ready: a ride on the children’s railway, a visit to the dolphinarium, a walk … And what will we eat? The kids will get tired and I didn’t have time to prepare anything. I go to bed with the thought: what to feed the children? Morning. The bell rings: “Do you need donuts? We are ready to bring you donuts.” I just screamed, “Wow! Thanks a lot!”

    Permanent projects of the foundation:

    Pretend Kindergarten

The children are brought to the center, like to a kindergarten, for a few hours. Here, educators and specialists deal with them individually. They conduct diagnostic examinations for each child and develop development programs.

    “Home sighting”

Project specialists show in an accessible and understandable way how to properly organize care for a child with severe and multiple developmental disorders, how to play with a child, while helping him develop.

    “First steps towards independent living”.

    Cooking classes for children.

When a child with Down syndrome is born, the priorities of life change, you stop treating many things as a problem. Love comes to the fore. Our children change us, change the world around, make us kinder.

Everything is simple. The joy of any achievement, change and the understanding that if you don’t do it, no one else will.

I love all our families, but there are the best ones. Zenkin family. When we met, they had one Ilyusha. Young parents, from whom comes warmth and love. Nina is a needlewoman, a jack of all trades. Andrew knows everything and is always ready to help. It is always easy and simple with them. When Zoya was born, we could not believe that this happens: the second child in a young family with Down syndrome. Everyone was in shock, and Nina reassured the doctors and said that she already knew everything and knew how to raise such children. The third girl, Lyubochka, was born without pathologies, and now this family is just a decoration of our center.

It is very difficult to work in a public organization. Parents want ready-made solutions to any problem. And I’m used to solving all the problems myself. I try to study and delve into all issues. On the one hand, I solve problems as they arise, but on the other hand, I always set a goal and go towards it, the most important thing is that my relatives support me, be there. I understand that it is necessary to transfer my knowledge and experience to others, and at the same time I see how difficult it is for parents to prioritize in life.

We always have discussions about who should be the head of a public organization: parents or invited organizers? Where to find a person who would know the problems of children, who would be able to convey the pain and happiness of our families? I hope that people will come who are on the way with them and who are ready for change.

The fund has recently joined the “800 good deeds” project, and soon the fund’s shares will appear on the fundraising platform. Thus, every Nizhny Novgorod citizen will be able to help families with children and adults with Down syndrome.

The program for parents “Happy Together” teaches how to build relationships at home with a “sunny” child.

Developmental delays, reading difficulties, and infrequent exposure to new words can cause students to fall behind in academic achievement. However, most teachers agree that passive learning is not the best way to help students build vocabulary through vocabulary work.

Learning new words is like adding to your writing wardrobe. Your writing becomes much more interesting and exciting when you have more options. Below we present vocabulary activities suitable for working with younger students and provide children with a variety of learning options to help them build their own word bank.
    nine0005

Mapping words. Word cards help deepen the understanding of a verbal word by connecting it with other words and concepts that students already know [1, p. 34].

Using the Fryer model. Fryer models are a popular way to learn new words and concepts. Children define the word in their own words, then list facts and characteristics, examples and non-examples.

Drawing vocabulary notes. Children and teachers love sketches! Instead of writing out definitions, you can ask students to draw a sketch that summarizes each word. This is much more fun and gives children a visual association and helps them remember the meanings [1, p. 45].
    nine0005

Pushing the word forward. Grouping dictionary words together with several other words with similar meanings and one antonym. Students determine the antonym and “throw” it to the next cell, filling in the next group of words. They continue until the worksheet is filled [2, p. 52].

Placement of thematic board in the classroom. It is possible to arrange a word graffiti wall as a collaborative word wall. In class, post the words on the wall and have the children add stickers to illustrate the term (they can use words or pictures). On the Internet, you can find a tool such as “Padlet” or “Google Slides”.
    nine0005

Choosing a word to describe the character. This is a great way to practice vocabulary from the books you read. You can ask students to use different words to describe different characters in the book, their feelings, thoughts and actions [3, p. 13].

Filling in the word from A to Z. This word game is fun and challenging and you can play it at any age. You can choose a word and then ask the children to come up with related words for as many letters as possible. It can be synonyms, antonyms, examples, and more. More difficult letters bring more points!
    nine0005

Using RAFT to write vocabulary stories. Writing a story using dictionary words is a long-time favorite, but the RAFT method gives it a new twist. Students are assigned a Role (the point of view from which they will tell the story), Audience, Format, and Theme. For example, it could be an astronaut (Role) who writes a postcard (Format) to his friends back home (Audience) about what they saw on Mars (Theme). RAFT is especially good for kids who claim they don’t know what to write about [4, p. 23].
    nine0005

Discovery of the “power” of words. Vocabulary words take on more meaning when students incorporate them into their daily lives. You can encourage children to use vocabulary in speaking and writing outside of language class.

Creation of graphic organizers. Colorful organizers are a terrific vocabulary activity. This work can also be done in digital format. You can ask the children to make a slide show, one slide per word.

An exploration of shades of meaning. This is a great idea for learning synonyms and the little differences that make words unique. You can ask for strips of paint samples at your local hardware store, or buy a set of pictures. In class, you can use these drawing strips to make crafts for the bulletin board. You can also organize work in a virtual environment. To do this, ask the children to print strips of pictures at home or use the images to create slides or digital worksheets [2, p. 23].
    nine0005

Use of social networks. This is one of those word exercises that kids will want to do over and over again! Assign each student a word and ask them to create a fake social media page for them. They can draw them by hand or fill out a template like this from teachers paying teachers. You can post images to a shared Google Slideshow for other students to view.

The use of acrostics. You can write an acrostic for each dictionary word, using the letters to identify the first word in each line. This can become really challenging when the words are longer!
    nine0005

Collecting words. This is one of those picture books that older kids will love as much as toddlers. You can use it to remind your kids that they don’t need a dictionary to learn new words – new words are all around them. It is important to encourage them to keep their own word list or diary to write down new words they want to learn and use more often [3, p. 31].

    Child Care FAQs

The national typical hourly rate in 2022 is $20. 00 per hour for nannies and $17.50 for babysitters. Rates can vary based on the child care provider’s experience, certifications, employment status, and travel expenses. When calculating the cost of child care, you should also account for the number of children they’ll care for and additional responsibilities like household tasks or homework help. Learn more about how to set competitive rates for attracting the best babysitters.

The best way to find child care near you is to post a job detailing your needs on Sittercity, which will be shared with our community of available babysitters and nannies. We’ll notify you when child care providers apply to your job, and from there you can proceed with interviews, background checks, and reference checks so you can find the perfect fit for your family.

You can find experienced and passionate child care providers near you to provide the best care for your child, either in-home or virtually. Child care providers can help families with managing strict schedules, transportation to activities, homework help, last-minute coverage, date nights, and more. Whether you’re looking for full-time, part-time, live-in, or temporary care, you can count on Sittercity for finding passionate and experienced child care providers.

Families find trustworthy child care providers on Sittercity who are passionate about providing safe and enriching care for their children. Many providers report they are First Aid and CPR certified to provide the best care for your family. Babysitters and nannies have the option to complete regular background checks, and you can easily request a recent background check if they don’t have one or it is not recent. Families can also request to see professional references!

Our dedicated team also champions safety across our platform every day. Child care providers go through an identity verification process Berbix when registering an account. Some additional safety measures include Family Watchdog screening, babysitter and nanny reviews, and secure messaging.

Nannies and babysitters share the same primary responsibility of providing safe and enriching care for your child, but there are a few differences between them. Nannies are more commonly associated with regular work, whether full or part-time, offering daily or consistent care to a particular family. There are also several different types of nannies, including au pairs, house managers, doulas, live-in, and overnight nannies.

Babysitters, on the other hand, are typically hired for irregular or occasional work, either full or part-time. If you’re looking for last-minute care for date night, or the occasional few hours after school, a babysitter is a great best option.

Identifying the type and frequency of child care you’ll need is the best way to decide whether a babysitter or nanny is a better fit for your family.

Child care providers on Sittercity love providing enriching experiences for your children, and sharing their passions with them. They’re happy to participate in outdoor activities like sports, or indoor activities like music, baking, tutoring help, and art. Wherever your child’s interests lie, child care providers on Sittercity can engage them in a nurturing way.

Maintaining health and safety is a community effort.

When we all work together, we strengthen our ties to one another, while teaching kids to practice healthy habits for life.

Enrollment Policies and Procedures — First Environments

    3.0 Enrollment Policies and Procedures

3.1 Application for Enrollment & Waiting List

Application for enrollment of children ranging in age from six weeks through entering kindergarten will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. However, priority will be given as follows:

    1.  Siblings of children currently enrolled at FEELC will have first priority for admission to FEELC.  (Follows priorities as listed below in #2-10)

      2.  EPA or NIEHS/NIH federal employee parent

      3.  Other federal employee parent

      4.   EPA or NIEHS/NIH Post-Doc, Visiting Fellow or other trainee parent

      5.  First Environments employee parent

      6.  EPA or NIEHS/NIH contractor parent; unless covered in item 4 above.

      7.  EPA or NIEHS/NIH employee grandparent

      8.  EPA or NIEHS/NIH Guest Researcher parent

      9.  EPA or NIEHS/NIH federal retiree parent

      10. General Public parent

    3.1.1 Part-time Enrollment

First Environments Early Learning Center wants to make a difference in the lives of families and understands that parents or guardians may have different working schedules and childcare needs. To accommodate the needs of families, we offer some part-time enrollment opportunities when available. Policies that apply to all part-time enrollees are as follows:

    • Families with part-time enrollment spots will pay their prorated portion of the tuition directly to FEELC through the Tuition Express draft.

    • As with full-time enrollees, tuition payments are required for your agreed upon schedule whether or not the child is in attendance.

Part-time enrollees are also subject to the 30-day withdrawal notice requirement except for those who are given a 60-day notice by FEELC.

Additional policies for the two types of part-time enrollment (permanent part-time spots and shared spots) are described below.

3.1.1.1. PERMANENT PART-TIME SPOTS (Open to families who qualify for the federal tuition rate)

FEELC provides (2) permanent part-time spots per toddler, middler, preschool, and pre-K age group (not classroom) for families who qualify for the federal tuition rate. Schedules are based on either 5- or 6-days per bi-weekly tuition period and must be confirmed with the administration as well as the individual classroom teachers. Once confirmed, these days become your set schedule. This helps ensure proper classroom ratios are maintained, schedules are communicated, and correct tuition drafts are made. Set schedules are also essential for ensuring special dietary restrictions are accommodated on the proper days.

    Changes to Part-Time Schedule

Any changes to your child’s schedule must be communicated in writing to the administration and classroom teachers as soon as possible.

    a. Switching of Days – If you would like to switch days in attendance without changing the total number of days attended within a bi-weekly tuition period, then a written request must be submitted to FEELC administration and your classroom teachers and be approved. The switching of days should be limited to (2) times per month to minimize disruption in your child’s routine as well as the classroom. The tuition will not be different as long as the total number of days is the same within a bi-weekly tuition period.

    b. Additional Days Requested – Requests for additional days are limited to (2) days per month and require advanced notification of FEELC administration and classroom teachers. Additional days will be charged per additional day attended.

NOTE: Any special requests for more than (2) additional days in the same month will need to be requested in writing to the FEELC Director (with a copy to the Enrollment Specialist) and also communicated to the classroom teachers if approved.

    Converting a Permanent Part-Time Spot to Full-Time

A permanent part-time enrollee can convert to a full-time spot in their classroom by requesting full-time enrollment through the FEELC administration at any time.

3.1.1.2. SHARED SPOTS (Open to all families)

In addition to the (2) permanent part-time spots per toddler, middler, preschool, and pre-k age groups, FEELC may provide shared spots in all age groups based on availability. FEELC does limit these shared spots to a maximum of (4) children per classroom (the equivalent to (2) full-time spots per class). A shared spot is matched with another child’s schedule to essentially form one full-time spot in the classroom. For example, if one family prefers to attend Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, then we would be able to offer another family a part-time schedule of Tuesdays and Thursdays. Schedules are based on 4-6 days per bi-weekly tuition period and must be confirmed with the administration as well as the individual classroom teachers. Once confirmed, these days become your set schedule.

    Changes to Shared Spot Schedule

As stated above, once your shared spot schedule is confirmed, these days are your set schedule. However, if the families in the share partnership wish to switch days or attend during the other child’s unused days, this is allowed and will be a personal agreement made between the two families. The main requirement is that the parents communicate in writing any changes to their schedule with their classroom teachers.

Converting Shared Spots to Full-Time or Permanent Part-Time

If a full-time or permanent part-time spot becomes available, all eligible shared spot enrollees in that age group will be notified by the FEELC administration and offered the opportunity to fill the full-time or permanent part-time spot. The order in which families will be notified will be based on the enrollment priority on their original waitlist form and date, and only federal tuition eligible families will qualify for the permanent part-time spots.

Families wishing to accept the full-time or permanent part-time spot shall inform the FEELC administration within 2 weeks of the offer.

Share Partner Change & 60-Day Notice Period

In the case that one of the shared spot enrollees converts to an open full-time (or permanent part-time) spot or gives notice to leave the school, the other family in the share partnership

would then be given a 60-day notice by FEELC to either find another family with whom to share or assume their classroom spot full-time. If neither of those options are exercised by the end of the 60-day window, their spot transitions to a full-time spot and will be filled by the next family on the waitlist. However, if there is no other family on the waitlist for their age group, then that family may occupy the part-time spot temporarily until one of the following conditions are met (whichever comes first):

    1) the family is able to find a share partner,
    2) a permanent part-time spot becomes available (for federal tuition eligible families only), or 3) another full-time family becomes eligible from the waitlist and assumes the classroom spot.

3.2 Required Fees, Tuition, and Late Pickup

3.2.1 Required Registration & Deposit Fees

    3.2.1.1 REGISTRATION FEE

First Environments requires a $50.00 non-refundable wait list registration fee per child.

    3.2.1.2 DEPOSIT FEE

A separate deposit is required to secure an agreed upon start date. This deposit, minus any monies due, will be refunded upon withdrawal from the Center. The Center requires a 30-day notice of intent to withdraw, with the exception of rising Kindergartners, in which we require a 45-day notice of intent to withdraw. The Center has 30 days upon withdrawal of the Center to refund your deposit.

See section 3.3 for more information about withdrawals.

FAILURE TO ACCURATELY COMPLETE FORMS OR PAY FEES IN A TIMELY MANNER MAY RESULT IN CANCELLATION OF THE ENROLLMENT AGREEMENT.

    3.2.2 Tuition Policies

First Environments’ tuition payments are made by bank draft only. Tuition is drafted every two weeks on Friday. The Board sets the tuition when the budget is presented at the annual July Parent Meeting. The Board will attempt to approve no more than single digit (%) annual increases in tuition. Any family that participates in a FEELC recognized tuition assistance program will be responsible for any charges or tuition that is not covered by their assistance program. Tuition payments are required whether or not the child is in attendance. Tuition payments will not be adjusted for vacation, sickness, holiday, inclement weather closure, and when there is an Executive Order by the President for Closings of the Federal Government. Tuition payments are due for all periods of absence regardless of reason. The full tuition and fees are due for all periods where the Center is open but the federal government is in furlough or shutdown. The Board may be petitioned in cases of lengthy absences due to illness.

3.2.2.1 Required Documentation for Annual Employment Status Verification

Please make your paystub available to determine Federal Status. By default, all families will be charged the contractor rate until federal status is verified. Personal information can be marked out. If you are a new employee to the campus you can have your hiring manager or immediate supervisor or HR email FEELC to verify that you are a Federal employee.

3.2.2.2 Veteran of the US Military or USPHS (Commissioned Corps)

Parents who are eligible for enrollment under enrollment guidelines may apply for federal rates if they are a veteran of the US Military or USPHS (Commissioned Corps) – honorable discharge paper required. Veteran status does not affect enrollment eligibility.

    3.2.2.3 INSUFFICIENT FUNDS (NSF) FEE

An insufficient funds fee will be charged for any account with insufficient funds to cover the cost of the tuition draft. The fee for insufficient funds is $25 per draft.

    3.2.2.4 EMERGENCY CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS

Emergency credit card payments can be made by using the Square credit card system. Since the Square is for emergency use only, use of it will be limited to once per quarter for tuition, and there will be a $25 fee included each time to cover charges incurred by FEELC for use of a credit card. Tuition Payments made with the Square can only be made from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm on the Tuesday before the tuition drafts. The tuition draft weeks are listed in the monthly classroom calendars.

    3.2.3 Late Pickup Policy

A late pick up fee will result in a late fee charge.  There is a 5-minute grace period for parents picking up their children between 5:30-5:35pm.  A pick-up time between 5:36-5:45 will result as follows:

    – The 1st late pick up is a freebie (no charge).

    – The 2nd time is $25.

    – The 3rd time is $35.

    – The 4th time is $45.

There is a cap at $45 for all subsequent times picking up late.  There is a $15 fee for each additional 15 minutes.  Every family resets to start at zero at the beginning of the year.

Phone calls to notify of late arrival are appreciated but will not exempt late fee charges. FEELC’s policy is to always waive the initial late charge. Record of your initial late charge is kept in the Procare system. The initial late charge will not show up on a tuition statement because that charge is voided. Any following tuition charges will show up on your monthly tuition statement.

If late fee charges are generated they will be posted to your child’s account. Late fee charges will be billed and drafted from your account on the following tuition draft.

    3.3 Withdrawals

To withdraw your child from enrollment at FEELC, it is the Center’s policy that parents must:

    • Provide written notice 30 days (minimum) prior to the date of withdrawal. . Please email Heather Ray ([email protected]) and Beth Lake ([email protected]) with your intent to withdraw.

    • Failure to provide written notice before withdrawal will result in parents being held responsible for 30 days of tuition costs beyond the date of withdrawal and possibly forfeiture of the security deposit.

To obtain more information about this process, please contact Heather Ray (hray@firstenvironments. org) or Beth Lake ([email protected]).

3.4 Special Needs Children and Their Families

First Environments welcomes all children to participate in all areas of our program. The center enrolls children with special needs and challenges in accordance with ADA regulations. The center, however, does not primarily serve such children.
FEELC reserves the right to ask a parent to withdraw their child from enrollment at FEELC if it is determined that the child cannot be adequately cared for in the Center. In such a case, FEELC may waive the required 30-day notice of intent to withdraw.

    3.5 Pre-Enrollment Visit

FEELC would like parents to spend a minimum of two to three hours at the Center with their child before the child comes to the center alone. This helps make your child’s first experience at our Center a pleasant one. It also gives you an opportunity to get to know the staff. We encourage you to set up a series of “mini” visits. Short stays help your child gain trust in the staff and become familiar with the surroundings. If at all possible, we encourage both parents to accompany the child during these “mini” visits. When possible please coordinate your visits with your child’s teachers.

    3.6 Required Enrollment Information

Upon accepting a spot in our Center, you will be given a folder containing documents that will need to be completed and returned to the front office prior to your child’s first day. The children’s folder includes the child’s application for child care, children’s medical report, immunization history, travel and activity authorization, discipline and behavior management policy, FEELC enrollment agreement, child and adult care food program form, photo/media consent form, summary of the NC child care licensing laws, FEELC family and child information form. The infant folders have in addition the infant safe sleep policy, CACFP provision of breast milk or infant formula form, and the infant feeding schedule. Please note, prior to enrollment your child must receive a physical examination and the Medical Information Form must be completed by your child’s physician.

To keep children’s records current, please update any changes of emergency contact information, place of employment, additional immunization records, or anything else that you feel we need to know about your child. FEELC will also send our quarterly reminders by e-mail to parents requesting update changes. Your child’s records will be stored in the FEELC front office. These records are kept confidential but are also immediately available to administrative staff or teaching staff that have consent from a parent or legal guardian, the child’s parents or legal guardian, and the regulatory authorities including our state licensing consultant.

For more information on the FEELC Enrollment Agreement, please see Enrolling.

If you have any questions regarding completion of any documents, please contact the Office Manager, Kim Graper at [email protected] or (919) 541-9452.

    3.6.1 Immunization Records

It is North Carolina policy that your child receives immunizations in order to attend day care. Therefore, it is extremely important that your child’s immunization records be kept up to date. It is the parent’s responsibility to bring the Center a copy of their child’s immunization records for their files and update them as immunizations occur throughout the year. Here is a link for more information about NC immunization laws for childcare centers: http://immunize.nc.gov/schools/ccf_requirements.htm

    HYGIENE CARE

FOR A CHILD OF EARLY PRESCHOOL AGE

… Wash your hands when you wake up

    and eyes with cold water,

Walk back and forth in moderation, stretch…

comb your hair and brush your teeth.

    Salerno Health Code XIV century

What should parents know about hygiene habits?

Early age is a period of formation, and preschool age is the best time to consolidate the habit of cleanliness for life (if this has not been done before).

Further, we will talk about the patterns of formation of health, hygiene skills and dependence on the development and maturation of the physiological systems of the body that are common to all children.

    Physical development

From the end of the first year of life, the weight of the child increases annually by 1 kg, and height by 5 cm. These are average data that we focus on when weighing and measuring the child.

The central nervous system becomes noticeably more resilient. The periods of inhibition are reduced, the intervals of active wakefulness of the child are increasing. He knows how to concentrate on one lesson for quite a long time – up to 10-15 minutes. The functions of the cerebral cortex are being improved, memory is developing for events that occurred several months ago. Speech is rapidly improving, an increasing vocabulary is accumulating.

Significantly stabilizes the activity of the cardiovascular system . It works with less stress. The heart rate drops to 86-90, which is already approaching the normal readings for an adult.

Improving the musculoskeletal system . There is an intensive ossification of soft bone tissue, cartilage. And although this process will continue as long as a person grows (sometimes up to 20-25 years), the skeleton of a child in the second year of life already provides a fairly good vertical stability of the whole body. The strengthening of the musculoskeletal system continues. Movements become more confident, varied. But physical fatigue still sets in quickly, the child often changes his position, after considerable effort he rests for a long time.

Age-related changes also occur in the gastrointestinal tract. The muscular layer of the stomach wall develops, intestinal tone increases, peristalsis increases, the nervous regulation of the mechanism of food origin through the intestines improves.

The urinary system functions much better than in infancy. With a relatively small age-related growth of the kidneys, the volume of the bladder by the end of the third year of life increases almost 4 times. Accordingly, the amount of urine released once increases, although the number of urination per day decreases up to 10 times. In toddlers, the receptors in the bladder and spinal cord are still underdeveloped, so the urge to urinate is weak. You should not blame the baby for wet panties (if you do not use diapers), the skill of neatness in most children is formed by the age of 3, when they respond in a timely manner to an overflow of the bladder.

Bowel emptying after a year usually occurs once a day. The nature of the stool changes, it is more dense, dark in color, with a characteristic unpleasant odor. It is important to ensure that the child does not have constipation, for this you need to strictly observe the age-specific diet. If you are prone to constipation, be sure to consult a doctor.

Old pediatricians recommended giving the child water in the morning with plain water at room temperature (up to ½ cup) and offering the child use the potty at the same time.

    Use of the toilet.

When the child is already trained to use the potty, it is necessary to learn how to use the toilet. To do this, we recommend a special insert made of plastic for the toilet bowl or made of painted plywood.

The child must be taught to sit on the toilet on his own, get up on his own and use toilet paper. Cleanliness in the toilet is not only a guarantee of cleanliness in the future, but also the preservation of his health at the present time. It is important to teach your child to wash their hands after using the toilet.

    Oral hygiene. Dental care.

The foundation for the formation of teeth is laid between the ages of 6 months and 12 years. If you want your child’s teeth to be beautiful and healthy, think about their nutrition. The main thing is calcium and its supplement – vitamin D, which retains calcium in the body. Calcium contained in food is completely absorbed, but taken in the form of medicines or dietary supplements, it gives a much smaller effect. So, you need to make sure that the child’s diet is sufficiently rich in calcium.

Cotton wool moistened with boiled water is quite sufficient for cleaning the first milk teeth. But as soon as the baby has four incisors above and below, buy him the first toothbrush. It should be very small and tender. You will brush his teeth and gums. Cleaning the gums is very important – it stimulates blood circulation, strengthens the gums and makes teeth stronger.

Despite the fact that the first control visit to the dentist should take place at 2 years 6 months or 3 years, already in the second year the doctor can detect caries. It would be a big mistake to assume that since milk teeth fall out, there is no point in treating them. A tooth affected by caries is a focus of infection in the child’s mouth. In addition, deep caries can reach the jawbone and interfere with the development of a permanent tooth.

It is not uncommon for a child’s teeth to protrude. This defect can be caused by bad habits.

When a baby sucks his thumb, there is nothing to worry about. An older child sucks his thumb when he wants to sleep or is bored or excited, and thus calms down. By the age of two, this habit should disappear. However, some children persistently continue to suck their thumb after this age, and then this habit can seriously impede the correct growth of teeth. When the child sucks his finger, he separates one jaw from the other, leans on the lower teeth, which he pushes back, and on the upper ones, which he pushes forward. At the same time, the sky is deformed. What to do to wean a child from this bad habit?

Prohibition by threats, reprimands, or those means that make thumb-sucking unpleasant is useless. If up to 1 year 3 months the child constantly sucks his finger, think about whether he lacks sleep, entertainment, or something bothers him in the family environment. If you can’t find the cause yourself, see your doctor.

Sometimes the child sucks his thumb, trying to sleep. To gently, gradually wean him from this, it is enough to carefully remove the finger from the mouth as soon as the child is sound asleep. Be careful not to wake him up. The subconscious of the baby will fix that he can fall asleep perfectly “without a finger”, and in the end the child will refuse him.

Already in the fourth year of life, a preschooler can independently brush his teeth and rinse his mouth after eating.

According to the condition of the teeth, one can also judge the level of physical development.

Between the ages of 3 and 6, milk teeth replace permanent teeth. They have marked a place for permanent teeth and “hold” it until they appear. Permanent teeth form correctly if there is enough space for them. If milk teeth fall out early (for example, as a result of caries), then the jaw develops poorly, it is small for permanent teeth. A permanent tooth – tends to push the neighboring one – the teeth will grow crookedly.

Around the fifth year of life, a child’s first milk tooth falls out, which is replaced by a permanent one. First, the incisors fall out, then the lateral incisors, canines and lateral teeth are replaced. Loss of milk teeth is usually painless and should not cause any alarm. A loose tooth should remain in the mouth until it falls out on its own.

Caries (a disease associated with tooth decay) occurs when the food contains a large amount of carbohydrates that come into contact with the teeth for a long time and cause a large number of bacteria in the oral cavity that produce acid, which affects the surface of the teeth.

It is well known that excessive consumption of sweets contributes to the occurrence of caries. Every candy you give your child leaves a small, harmful mark on their teeth.

The best prevention of dental diseases is the introduction of fluoride into the body. Therefore, do not resist the recommendations of dentists, if they give them.

If a child is accustomed to brushing and rinsing his teeth from an early age, then it is not difficult for you to regularly examine his mouth and throat. If you find dark and black spots (caries) on your teeth, then do not console yourself with the thought that this tooth is milk and sooner or later it will fall out. You need to go to the dentist.

Teach your child not only to brush their teeth regularly, but also to brush their teeth properly. Teeth are brushed in the morning and evening. It is very important to remember that brushing your teeth is the initial elements of acupressure.

On the mucous membrane of the mouth there are representations of almost all the most important organs – the heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, liver and kidneys. Therefore, the vigorous morning work of the toothbrush can give a good charge to the whole body as a whole.

Since there is no need to tone up the body in the evening, you need to be able to teach your child how to use a toothbrush correctly.

It is necessary to make 300-400 scraping movements from top to bottom along the axis of the tooth. In the morning, these movements should be “sweeping”. So you massage the gums more strongly and tone up the activity of the brain.

It is useful to combine brushing your teeth with finger self-massage of the gums.

To do this, a small amount of toothpaste should be applied to the index and thumb. Start self-massage from the center of the jaws, and then gradually move your fingers to the sides. The upper jaw is massaged from top to bottom (from the gums to the teeth), and the lower jaw – from the bottom up. You need to massage in a circular motion: in the morning clockwise, in the evening against for 5-7 minutes, then you need to rinse your mouth.

With regular use of gum massage, the delicate mucosa gets a kind of hardening: resistance to mechanical factors, cold, heat increases, blood circulation improves, nutrition of gums and teeth improves.

Make it a rule to do such “exercises” in the morning with your child!

And it would be nice to adopt one more rule from our foreign colleagues-parents: sweets – on Saturdays. In Norway, this rule has led to a significant reduction in dental disease in children.

    General hygiene skills.

A preschooler can successfully master all the basic hygiene skills, understand their importance and get used to systematically perform them correctly and quickly. Most children by the age of 5 already know how to wash themselves.

To develop and consolidate this skill, the child needs help: to teach him to roll up his sleeves, to lather his hands well with soap, to rinse them well, to wash off the soap, to dry himself dry only with a personal towel. You need to show the child several times where his towel should constantly hang.

Do not rush the child if at first he spends a lot of time washing.

If the skill of washing hands and washing is not consolidated at this age, in the future you will have a lot of trouble.

The main thing for acquiring hygiene skills is the example of adults. If the parents do gymnastic exercises and then take a shower, then the child will do the same. If it is impossible to use a shower, it is worth accustoming children to wash up to their waists in the morning.

They should learn the habit of not only washing their faces and brushing their teeth daily in the evenings, but also washing their feet with cool water, wiping thoroughly, without leaving the skin between the fingers wet, where fungal skin diseases most often develop.

In summer, it is advisable to wash your feet before napping. Feet need a separate towel.

If the skin of the hands is weathered, it can be lubricated after washing with baby cream or rubbed with creams like “Tick-tock”, fragrant glycerin.

A preschooler is able to use a handkerchief on his own, so think about where and how the child will store these handkerchiefs, and never scold him for the lost ones.

    Cleanliness of a girl.

Life requires special cleanliness from a girl: a girl’s hygiene is connected not only with her health, but also with the health of her future children. The girl’s evening dress must necessarily include daily washing.

(The same applies to boys; the younger the boy, the more he needs this procedure – after all, he is not yet very good at using the toilet).

It is not necessary to put the child in a basin for washing, as this will wash the genitals with contaminated water.

You need to wash the child with a flowing jet (when using the shower, you need to ensure that the water jet falls in a soft scattered beam). If this is not possible, you need to prepare water in a special container (mug, jug, jar, wide-mouth bottle, etc.), wash your hands with soap, put the girl over the basin, stand behind her. You need to take a vessel with water in your left hand, a piece of gauze or cotton wool in your right hand, bend over the child, wet the cotton wool or gauze (you can soap it) and wash the external genital organs from front to back. After the procedure, it is necessary to dry the skin of the perineum and thighs with a specially dedicated towel. If we wash the girl regularly, she will not be able to do without this procedure in the future.

It is not recommended to use medicines and herbs for washing without a doctor’s prescription.

Panties for girls must be changed daily (for boys it is desirable).

Any, even slight discharge, is a good breeding ground for microbes, this can lead to vulvovaginitis, paraproctitis, and when dried, cause irritation of the external genitalia and thighs.

It is undesirable to wear tights without panties.

A general hygienic bath should be done at least twice a week.

(And if there are appropriate hygienic conditions, it is better to do general water procedures in the morning and evening, then a complicated washing procedure will not be needed).

    Hair care .

Hair must be washed once a week. For washing it is better to use boiled water and special baby shampoos. Experts recommend domestic shampoos such as “Children’s”, “Qua-quack”, as they contain vitamins and other useful additives, have a pleasant smell, anti-inflammatory effect and do not irritate the skin and mucous membranes of the eyes. It is advisable to dry the hair before the child goes to bed. Drying children’s hair with a hair dryer is undesirable.

It is necessary to comb short hair from the roots to the ends (this improves blood circulation in the scalp). Long hair girls need to comb in separate strands, starting from the ends (it is better to choose combs with blunt and rare teeth). Pigtails should only be braided when the hair is dry. It is not recommended to weave braids into very tight braids, to grab them tightly with hairpins or bows, as the hair falls out from strong tension. From time to time it is recommended to change the parting.

Most children are afraid of shampoos, and washing their hair is a crying and squealing session every time. Here are some precautions recommended by experienced pediatricians and cosmetologists, very simple, but sufficient to turn this difficult procedure, if not into pleasure, then at least into something quite acceptable.

Sit your child in a comfortable position and try not to let soap and water run down their face. Pay attention to the temperature of the water: it should be moderately warm (hair, like wool, does not like hot water). Avoid sudden changes in temperature – this makes the child nervous. Do not pour cold shampoo on your head, first dilute it in a glass with plenty of warm water.

Wet hair, pour half of the shampoo, lather, rinse quickly. Pour the rest of the shampoo, lather, massaging the scalp lightly. Never rub your hair like a cloth – it confuses them.

Rinse your hair thoroughly until the running water is completely clear and your hair starts to squeak. Rinsing is of paramount importance: it gives shine to the hair, if the hair is not rinsed well, it will remain dull and sticky.

On the market of modern toys there are very simple devices (in the form of ducks, cockerels) that are put on the head of a child and do not allow water to get into the eyes.

Attention! It should be noted that modern children who have undergone various perinatal complications, in spite of everything, have an extremely negative attitude towards bathing. In these cases, you need to consult a neurologist.

A regular shower will help you accustom your child to the feeling of water on his face, eliminate the need to spend time on a special hair wash, and most importantly – it is very good for his health and will give him great pleasure over time.

Care instructions for seriously ill patients

Goals of caring for a seriously ill patient:

    • creation of physical, social, psychological comfort;
    • reduction in the severity of clinical manifestations of the disease;
    • improved quality of life;
    • prevention of possible complications;
    • establishment of psychological contact, identification of disturbed needs.
    1. If possible, place the patient in a separate room, if this is not possible, allocate a window seat for him.
    2. The bed should not be soft. Try not to use oilcloth, as it can cause maceration (irritation) of the skin and be a factor in the development of bedsores.
    3. It is advisable to use several light wool blankets rather than one heavy wadded one.
    4. Place a nightstand (stool, chair) next to the bed for medicines, drinks, books, etc. If the patient needs to take medicine strictly on time, and you cannot provide this, prepare the required number of small glasses and indicate the hours of admission on them.
    5. At the head of the bed, place a wall lamp, a table lamp, a floor lamp.
    6. In order for the patient to call you at any moment, purchase a bell or a soft rubber toy with a sound (or place an empty glass cup with a teaspoon inside next to the patient).
    7. If the patient has difficulty drinking from a cup, purchase a cup or use a straw for cocktails.
    8. If the patient does not retain urine and feces, adult diapers or adult diapers can be purchased. Do not use diapers unnecessarily, as they do not allow the skin to breathe and can cause irritation and bedsores.
    9. Use only thin cotton underwear for the patient: fasteners and ties must be in front. Prepare several of these shirts for change.
    10. Ventilate the patient’s room 5-6 times a day in all weathers per 15-20 minutes with warm covers if it is cold outside. Wipe dust and do wet cleaning, if possible, as often as possible.
    11. If the patient likes to watch TV, listen to the receiver, read, provide it to him.
    12. Always ask what the patient wants and do what he asks. He knows better than you what is convenient for him and what he needs. Do not impose your will, always respect the wishes of the patient.
    13. If the patient gets worse, do not leave him alone, especially at night. Turn on a night light so that the room is not dark.
    14. Ask the patient whom he would like to SEE, and invite exactly these people to him, but do not tire him with frequent visits from friends and acquaintances.
    15. The skin of a seriously ill person requires close care, since it needs cleanliness more than that of a healthy person. Regularly examine the skin in the sacrum, heels, ankles, elbows, neck, ears, greater trochanter of the femur, the inner surface of the knee joints. A patient who is on prolonged bed rest should be wiped with a damp, warm towel, followed by blotting dry. It is better to moisten the towel with body lotion diluted with water. In areas of the skin subject to prolonged compression, more than 2 hours , bedsores may form due to circulatory disorders and reduced immunity. For the prevention of bedsores, it is necessary to change the position of the patient in bed up to 10 times per day, turn it. The sheet should be stretched, without folds. The seams of underwear should not fall on the areas that are most closely in contact with the bed. Wet, dirty linen should be changed immediately. Constantly maintain a comfortable skin condition: lubricate dry skin with moisturizing creams, wet skin with powders without talc. When redness appears, it is necessary to massage the skin around the area of hyperemia, stepping back five centimeters (DO NOT MASSAGE THE AREA OF HYPEREMIA!). If the bedsore becomes wet, a doctor’s consultation is necessary.
    16. Hair should be combed daily, and once a week it is obligatory to check for pediculosis and wash your hair. Trim fingernails and toenails as they grow. Men need to shave carefully, avoiding cuts.
    17. Rinse eyes daily with infusions of chamomile, sage or tea leaves, using a pipette and a cotton ball, in the direction from the outer corner of the eye to the inner.
    18. The oral cavity (tongue, gums, teeth) should be treated daily with a solution of furacilin, chamomile, sage. Rinse your mouth after every meal. If possible, you can use a soft toothbrush.
    19. Control stool and urination. For constipation, use laxatives, various cleansing enemas (as prescribed by a doctor)
    20. Nutrition should be easily digestible, complete. It is desirable to feed the patient in small portions of 5-6 times per day. Prepare food so that it is convenient for chewing and swallowing: meat in the form of cutlets or soufflés, vegetables in the form of salads or mashed potatoes. It is advisable to include soups, broths, cereals, cottage cheese, eggs in the diet. The daily consumption of vegetables and fruits, as well as rye bread and sour-milk products is important. Do not give all food only pureed, otherwise the intestines will work worse. During feeding, it is desirable that the patient is in a half-sitting position (so as not to choke). Don’t put it down right after eating. Do not forget to give the patient juices, mineral water.
    21. Patients may develop pneumonia due to prolonged sitting in one position and impaired normal breathing and ventilation. It is necessary to plant the patient, turn him from side to side, massage the chest (which includes turning the patient on his stomach and lightly tapping from bottom to top over the entire surface of the back), and perform breathing exercises.
    22. Creating an optimistic atmosphere for maximum comfort. It is necessary to hide the severe symptoms of the disease, and sometimes the diagnosis, when talking. We have to use lies for good. Leisure such patients need to take an acceptable occupation. Such people are especially sensitive to loneliness. Remember, the warmth of your hands and words is much more important than the TV.
    23. For encouragement, motivation for action, try to teach elementary self-care techniques. Never lose hope for improvement and recovery. It is necessary to set a goal for the patient: each victory in self-care techniques is a movement towards independence from others.
    24. Charging. Daily for organs that have retained movement. Rehab no matter what! Massage, physical therapy, breathing exercises, etc. Be interested in new technologies, medicine does not stand still, new devices and methods are emerging to restore body functions.

The goal for relatives of such patients should be to improve the quality of life of the patient, as well as to prolong the life of a loved one. When faced with caring for the critically ill, don’t be left alone with the problem.

    After school | School life

Many parents believe that their child should be engaged not only in the classroom, but also outside of them, in order to develop mentally and intellectually.

But the children themselves do not like this study after school .

They believe that you need to study in a special time allotted for this, and the rest of the time you need to rest.

So what can a young talent do after school so that it is not only useful, but also interesting. nine0003

The modern program of schools in Chelyabinsk, and in general any in our country, is so complex that students live no easier than their teachers or parents. Studying can be compared to work. Only here, instead of a salary, there are grades, and vacations are replaced by vacations.

But no one wants to work on their well-deserved vacation, just like children do not enjoy studying after school. Adults do not always devote their free time to homework, there is also time for rest. Therefore, it is important that schoolchildren have a joyful vacation, and classes in their free time are not only useful, but also interesting, so as not to reduce efficiency to the limit. nine0003

When choosing extra classes to take place after school, you should pay attention to the interests of the student so that the child does not consider this a necessary measure and he would be happy to do something outside of school.

Thus, if a child loves to read and devotes all his free time to reading, then he can be enrolled in some literary circle, where he will study literature not only in the school curriculum.

At such circles the child after school will be happy to be able to study in more depth some works that were previously studied by him in the secondary school. In addition, if the student has already managed to study the school curriculum ahead, then it will be interesting for him to read and discuss something new among like-minded people. nine0003

But not all children are interested in this kind of activities, some like sports more. Such physically developed children after school are waiting for a lot of sports sections.

For older students, there are many gyms where they can use the accumulated energy to the fullest. Of course, the best option in such a situation, when the child has been involved in sports since childhood. In this case, his classes after school will be more intense – training camps, olympiads, competitions, and so on.

There are a lot of interesting courses and circles for mentally developed and self-educating children. For example, foreign language courses, where a student can learn the language for which he has more ability. Now there are many such courses – starting with common English and ending with little interesting Chinese or Japanese. In addition, by studying languages, a student can also study the culture and history of the country in which a particular language is spoken. Thus, it will be not only useful for a student of any age, but also interesting. nine0003

High school students, as a rule, have already formed their plans for the future and decided where they are going to enter. For them, there are a lot of preparatory courses that are recommended to attend in order to repeat the school curriculum, to understand issues that were not fully understood in order to more effectively pass all the required exams.

Any university in Chelyabinsk or a secondary vocational school provides students with everything they need to prepare for admission, where they can repeat the school curriculum, understand difficult moments, and prepare for entrance exams. nine0003

But such courses are not always able to fill the necessary gaps. In such cases, the student can choose some other activities or engage in self-education. In addition, it is always possible to hire a tutor.

But it costs money and not everyone can afford it. Therefore, in this situation, it is recommended to attend all possible courses, consultations at school, start attending some thematic circles or courses in advance, where they will help to master not only the school curriculum, but also learn a lot of information, in addition to this. nine0003

Thus, study after school should not take up all the free time, but most of it, so that the child does not get tired, but also does not relax too much. Additional classes must be planned so that the child has time to study at school, attend additional classes (perhaps in several directions, and not just one) and relax.

Of course, as they say, a change of activity is the best form of relaxation, but do not forget that a child of any age needs a good rest, timely sleep and communication with friends and peers. nine0003

During rest (besides sleep) the child can learn to plan his time so that one does not overlap and there is no excessive workload. These skills will help him in the future to build his life.

School after school – I’m writing to you… – LJ

When I was at school, we wanted to become… no, I won’t speak for everyone. Let everyone answer for himself. Personally, I successively passed my passion for astronomy, physics, chemistry, radio electronics, and eventually settled on computer technology. nine0003

And I would not say that my hobbies were something special and unusual for the time in which my school years fell.

My favorite magazine since middle school has been Technique of Youth. There was also Science and Life, but it seemed too abstruse and I never read it to the end. And TM – almost entirely. Especially, of course, the fantastic stories that were published at the end of each issue. Arthur Clark, Robert Sheckley, and other foreign writers who were not always found in a bookstore in Soviet times. nine0003

It would seem, what do magazines and school have to do with it?

Yes, despite the fact that the school in the broadest sense is not only an institution where children come to finish their lessons and return home.

School in a broad sense is the entire period of study, which begins with the first call and continues throughout life.

It’s just that the school consists of different parts – from the compulsory program, which everyone must sit in the lessons from the first to the eleventh grade and out-of-school education, which in turn is divided into various circles and sections, as well as self-study, which … which just begins on the pages of magazines, on TV screens and in movies. nine0003

And the extracurricular program is just as important, if not more so. Because it is she who shapes the future of man. The mandatory program is a common place. Everyone passes through it – both the future engineer and the future salesman and the future actress and the future . .. actress who did not enter the theater. And it is precisely from the extracurricular program, which is different for everyone, that depends on who a person will become.

After school, I went to the radio club – I became an engineer, a programmer. Fartseval imported cassettes and jeans – became a businessman. She went to ballet or theater school – became an actress. I went to hang out in huts … then I came to Moscow to enter and did not enter …

The same fartsovka, for example, is also a school. School of Commerce. I started with imported chewing gum, continued with jeans and VCRs, then a cooperative, then privatization, then sat down on government orders, offshore companies, and so on. And he learned the mechanism of profitable trading in the backyard. Bought low, sold high. He threw a sucker, found a roof for himself from strong guys involved in a sports school – he learned the principle, after school he is ready to continue.

Ten years at the ballet school, several hours a day at the barre – and now at the age of twenty a girl can dance beautifully. Maybe go to the theater. nine0003

And if you go the other way – hang around the huts for two years, find yourself a successful boy among the black marketeers, then either he will leave you or you will, if you are lucky, find another, richer … it did not work out – alas, but if you are lucky – you can not work anywhere and at the same time have a fur coat store, a fashionable salon and something else.

Compulsory school curriculum is only part of the school. Also important, but only a part. And the most interesting begins after the lessons. Or instead of them. The most important school starts outside the building called the school. The main school is in the movies, in magazines, on TV and … in the backyard. nine0003

How do you know what children will learn outside of school? Radio business, programming or fartsovke? Theater and ballet, fashion design or twerk, flirting and pickup?

Children’s hobbies are determined by what is considered modern, fashionable and successful in society.

Here Gagarin flew into space – the whole country fell ill with astronautics. I got sick in a good way. It is clear that only a few could become astronauts. But everyone wanted to touch space. Hence the space fantasy in every issue of the Technique of Youth, hence the popularity of this magazine, hence such cartoons as the Mystery of the Third Planet. And a guest from the future. And other adventures of Alice Selezneva. nine0003

And when the story in the Technique of Youth was finished, it was possible to move on to other articles. And there, chemistry, physics, astronomy, radio electronics…

And someone went to an aeromodelling circle, to technical sports, to an aviation club… and some eventually actually became cosmonauts. And someone remained a simple pilot. Simple constructor. Simple programmer. But they were also needed.

And space was the impetus for millions of Soviet children. Gagarin, Korolev, Leonov, Titov. nine0003

However, there was another push in the late USSR. And that other push was the deficit. This was an impetus for the black marketers, who could become quite successful and wealthy among their peers without any long-term visits to circles and sections, could open their “space”, right on the ground. Also a kind of space, only very earthly. But also very attractive.

And since the “terrestrial space” in fartsovka and in cooperatives was achieved much faster, more reliably and with less effort, at least it was so in the 80s – this “terrestrial space” of fartsovka and the cooperative movement eventually won. nine0003

At the same time, both cosmos – the one that gave birth to millions of engineers and the one that gave birth to millions of businessmen – were both the result of government policy.

The state officially created just one space, with the launch of a satellite, the flight of Gagarin, the Mir station, publications in Technique of Youth, a cartoon about the Secrets of the Third Planet, the adventures of Alisa Selezneva.

And the second cosmos arose as a result of the mistakes of the planned economy, which created a deficit and opened a crooked path to “space on earth” for young people. nine0003

    But it was all school.

Only it was a school outside the school building, after compulsory lessons. And sometimes instead of them.

But it is precisely this “school outside the school” that is the most important, shaping a person’s further occupations and way of life. Because the compulsory school curriculum is a common place. In most cases, she is simply “hung out”. In the classroom, most of the material flies in one ear and immediately flies out the other.

And what happens after school, outside the school – is a conscious choice of a person. This is what a person aspires to. And a person learns this “out-of-school” material an order of magnitude faster and more efficiently than the mandatory program. nine0003

And most importantly, the general education school ends at the eleventh grade. And the extracurricular program continues throughout life.

And what children today are fond of outside of school depends on what our country will be like tomorrow. Because it is they who will build and change the country.

Ukraine is a living example. For 20 years, some Ukrainian children were fond of “Bandera lightning” in camps in the west of the country. And when these children grew up, they changed the country. How they changed it – we perfectly see in the news. And they learned it in school. And not so much in the compulsory lessons, which “went in one ear, flew out of the other,” but after them. After school. On vacation, in the backyard, at summer camps. nine0003

The future of the country is shaped primarily in the backyard school.

If children in the yard are going to play Timurovites, they will then launch rockets into space and their children will play astronauts.

And if children in the yard trade imported cassettes and jeans with each other, because this is cool, this is a shortage, this is a sign of success, this is “space on earth” – tomorrow these children will trade factories, forests, land with each other, they will throw suckers, cut the budget and divide the country among themselves.

Overall moving our daughter out of this school to a nearby charter school was the best decision.

MY children do not have any learning disabilities so I do not know how to grade that, but the teachers are amazing, patient, kind, very optimistic and they definantely care about the students. I love the PTA and all their activities. Just everything about the school. Thank you HHE

Very happy, my son just graduated from 5th grade. The teachers and the personnel are great. I feel my kid is really prepare for 6th grade, not only academically. It was a great experience for both us. They really made the kids feel special in their last year at Elementary. Thanks!

Both of my daughters attend here and I am very well pleased with this school. The only disappointment is that there are no good schools in the Hollywood Hills area once they leave Hollywood Hills Elementary. I really wish this school offered up through Middle. The teachers are fantastic and the new principal is very involved. Will hate that this is my oldest daughters’ last year here. Someone please address the school issue for the Hollywood Hills area!!!!!

This is an excellent, well run school. Teachers are determined to make sure students learn. They receive constant training in new methods to teach better. Both my kids went there for elementary school. I highly recommend it.

I can only speak through my experience. Both of my sons have attended this school since K. My older one is in his 5th year and is ESE/Gifted, meaning he has an IEP and accomodations. In other words, he has a learning disability. I have to say that the school has done everything they can to accomodate my son. They have done a great job communicating with me throughout the years, and all of his teachers have been wonderful. Not only do his teachers care, but all of the teachers and faculty know him and care about him and lookout for his safety, which is extremely important to me. They have many extra curricular activities, such as Debate, Chorus, Drum club, STEM, etc. My other son loves DE as well and I highly recommend this school.

Overall a good school, with a lot of resources available, but some teachers need to learn how to pronounce words properly, like the word ask. I’d think that if you’re a teacher you’d want to teach kids and make sure they are well spoken, not encourage them to speak half-a$$. Even those teachers who do know how to pronounce words properly don’t correct children who mispronounce. From what I heard this wouldn’t be happening with the old principle, the one before ms. Itty took over.

The administration is the worst! They stress less communication between parents and teachers. I have been very lucky that my child had an amazing teacher who kept me in the loop about my childs progress. The Principal is hardly ever around. The Vice Principal is not friendly and professional. Ive witnessed her yelling at teachers in front of other parents. There seems to be a trend, the good teachers leaving and new faces arriving every school year. That definitely is a bad sign letting you know that something is not right!!!! The one person who truly makes a difference at this school is Mrs. Hariott. She is the guidance counselor and a compassionate person who takes her time to make herself available for you and your child. There are a few others like her in this school, hopefully they dont leave.

How to send a child to school in LA

How to send a child to school

Where to go, where to go if you flew with children, and they should be taken somewhere to learn the mind.

When choosing an apartment or house (for rent or for purchase), first look at which schools the children can go to if they live in that particular place.

There are a number of websites that will help you find housing for yourself, both for rent and for ownership. For example, Trulia.com, Zillow.com, Homes.com and others. nine0003

What is most important in your case (since
you have children and they need to go to kindergarten or school) is what educational institution they will go to, if you live in the apartment or house that you have chosen “by photographs on the Internet” (or by price).

The fact is that in the USA the cost of housing can differ significantly even when the apartments are located across the street: it’s just that the apartment on this side of the street is assigned to school X with a rating of 10/10, and the apartment on the other side belongs to a much weaker institution – with a rating of 5/10 or 3/10. nine0003

At the same time, “that” apartment can be many times cooler in terms of interior: there you will have a fresh renovation, a spacious living room and kitchen, and all the blessings in the world. And “this one” is closer and more modest. And all the same, it is tight, more expensive! Why? Because children are your future, and it is customary to think about them here in the first place, and for this reason, excellent schools are worth their weight in gold.

Do exactly the same as Americans when choosing: include the parameter “great school” in your scale of values when evaluating an apartment. nine0011

On the left – a screenshot of the www. Trulia.com map showing schools. I chose the city of Irvine (California) an hour from Los Angeles, because. here are some of the best schools in America.

If you hover over the apple icons on this site, you will see that almost ALL schools in the city are rated 10 out of 10! Unique situation.

But you can’t buy cheap houses and apartments here: the most affordable option is $480,000. And if it still didn’t go well with a mortgage, then without it, newcomers cannot afford this housing. nine0003

Property prices are displayed in green. Black apples – schools. The green lines are the boundaries of the city, and the green filled field near the price “$480k” is the area of home to the selected school – Brywood Elementary.

By clicking on the school icons, you can see the home area of the school, and by clicking on the prices, you can see what the houses for sale look like.

Remember that even if you move to the US in the middle of the school year, the school at your “registration” address is required to take the child, and will teach him free .

For example, let’s assume that you clicked on the price of $480k. You will see something like this output of the page of the apartment for sale (or rent, if during the search you indicated that you are looking for an apartment for rent, and not for the purpose of buying).

Right-bottom there is a square SCHOOLS field with a map with black dots. This is a way to find out exactly which schools are around a particular house/apartment, and which ones you will be assigned to if you can buy (rent) this property. nine0003

To view the list of schools, click on the right-bottom map.

And you’ve landed on a map showing all the schools in the area.

At the moment, Elementary (elementary) schools are displayed on it. But you can choose Middle and High School.

From the drop-down menu under the word Elementary, select the ASSIGNED option: this will leave in the list below only the school (or schools) that you, living at this address, will definitely get into without competition or any problems.

If you have already done all this and successfully rented (or even bought) an apartment, and even moved into it, you just have to come to the school itself and take a set of documents to enroll your child in it.

What documents are needed for enrollment?

Copy of birth certificate with translation

Americans can hardly read Russian, so it’s best to have a translation of your child’s birth certificate. Well, a copy of the original.

    Documentation of immunization

You had a health check before you got your immigrant visa, and if your child missed any vaccinations, you should have had them. Show the immunization sheet given to you – let them make sure that it is not your child who is to blame for the plague and rubella epidemic at school.

Some schools do not accept the immunization form as issued by the IOM. But in this case, you will need to go to the Immunization Center, the address of which will be given at the school itself, so that you will be given the so-called YELLOW CARD (yellow card). In essence, the doctor stupidly enters all the vaccinations from the IOM form (physician for visa) into his form and prints it for you. And you already give this Yellow Card to the school for photocopying (you keep the original). nine0003

If you are enrolling your child in kindergarten or first grade, you also need a paper from the dentist: Oral Assessment Form. But you have the right to refuse to fill it out (see an example below).

    Completed documents for admission

A huge stack of waste paper in English. Issued directly at the school upon first request. Filled easily and simply (though long). How exactly – we will show below.

Proof of residence in the school district

Documentation showing that you live at one of the addresses that the school is assigned to. Ideally, a contract for the sale of an apartment / house. nine0011 More common: lease agreement + any bill that has your name on it (for example, for electricity, internet, water, etc. )

This is because there are a lot of cunning people trying to get into schools with a rating of 10 /10 without living in their area. To do this, some even pool their rent an apartment for a bunch of families. When this is revealed, a scandal begins and your child flies out of school in disgrace. In general, if you really live near this coolest educational institution, prove with papers that you are required to enroll. nine0011

Student Progress Report (P.A.R.) at another US school

If you are transferring from another US school, take the P.A.R. (Pupil Accounting Report). You will easily be given it: just attach it to a pack of other documents. Come in handy.

List of necessary vaccinations and examinations
for kindergarten and new students of the school.
Nothing to fill out – just make sure you’ve done everything.

    Simple requirements:

    – the results of the examination at the dentist.

    – Polio vaccine (4 or more doses, but 3 (three) is sufficient if at least one given after the 4th birthday.

    – DTP (5 doses at any age)

    – Mumps, Rubella and measles (2 doses for Kindergarten, each to be given on or after birthday)

    – Hepatitis B vaccine – 3 doses

    – Had or had been vaccinated against chickenpox

    Oral Health Assessment Form nine0086
This is a check-up at the dentist: is needed only by first-graders and those going to kindergarten.

If everything is in order with your child’s teeth, you don’t have dental health insurance, and you don’t want to spend money on a dentist, just refuse this examination.

The form is absolutely standard: on top – the child’s full name, address, parent’s name, then a block to be filled in directly by the doctor.

But the third part is just the most interesting for you, if you do not want to spend money on a dentist and there is no need: most sane parents treat their children’s teeth regularly, and their condition is satisfactory or even excellent. nine0003

Therefore, to avoid costs, you can check the box, for example, the box “I cannot afford an oral health assessment for my child” or the even more restrictive box “I do not wish my child to receive an oral health assessment.” And that’s it.

    Medical/health history
    (all schools don’t like surprises).
This is a double-sided card. Move the cursor over the pictures and study the filling. nine0088

Of course, fill in everything as per your child.

So, if you have only one child, put zeros in the “Brothers”, “Sisters” fields. If your child has ever been hospitalized in the middle of the night – answer “yes” and describe the reason below.
If the son/daughter is taking any medication, check the Yes box in the question “Is child on medication?” and write down the name of the drug, dosage and frequency of administration during the day.

Do not lie when answering questions for fear that the child will not be accepted to school: all educational institutions in the United States are ready to work with children with a variety of problems. It’s just that management needs to understand exactly what, how and when they need to do exactly with your child. nine0086

On the right half of the sheet there is a list of what the child has been ill with, what could have been vaccinated against, or what may be ill now. Please answer “yes” or “no” accordingly and describe any details below that you think are relevant.

The reverse side of the card requires you to describe life in detail right from the moment of pregnancy. Whether to answer in such detail – decide for yourself.

To be honest, it is not very clear why the school needs so much information – provided that the child is healthy. nine0003

It is clear that, if the child has serious abnormalities or congenital diseases, it is all necessary that any paramedics who may suddenly be called if the child has a seizure have complete information about the heredity or origin of the disease. But in the most common case, it seems to me, you can fill this side of the card to the best of your desire. This will not affect the admission of the child to classes.

    Parent or Guardian Notice Form
is about your child’s adventures in the world of knowledge.

The most important thing on this form is your emergency phone numbers.

This document is for the sole purpose of knowing who to call if there is anything useful or urgent to say about your child’s progress or problems.

    Emergency contact form
with you as a parent “in case”.

With this form, you give the school the right to provide medical care to the child “in case of emergency”, so be sure to describe allergies to medications, to any other substances (if any). nine0003

Also in the penultimate block of questions you are asked “Do you have health insurance?” – and you must choose YES or NO.

If available, please tick some private (Private Health), Medi-Cal, or Healthy Families.

On the line below, write the name of the insurance and other information about it so that the school can use it for your child, if required.

Medical examination of the child before school.

If for some reason you do not have the results of a medical examination passed for a visa, this sheet must be taken to a doctor
in the USA and he will examine the child here (and you will pay for it :).

In my opinion, this document is simply not needed, and we did not fill it out, because we have the results of a medical examination for a visa that we just recently passed, which is required to obtain this very visa.

All information about vaccinations, x-rays, etc. is in it. So waste time on this paper only if you share your medical examination report somewhere or if some indecent amount of time has passed since it was passed (more than six months). nine0003

If you are unsure if your physical exam is a replacement for this document, just ask the school.

    Library Rules .

Actually, the most common rules for using the library: do not tear books, do not chew, return on time.

Tips for reading aloud to a child at home, asking a child to read aloud at home and just reading.

Sign below that you understand and accept everything.

    Child Homelessness Test Form .

The most important thing here is whether you check even one box in the black lined box: each box in it says that the child lives somewhere not at home – either in the garage, or with relatives due to the loss of the house, or in a trailer or even in a shelter.

If this does not apply to you, check the box “NONE OF THE ABOVE…”
The reverse side of this form must be completed only you have noted that the child has problems with living conditions. nine0003

Once again I emphasize that the presence of such problems does not mean that the child will immediately be refused to be taken to school. On the contrary, this form begins with the words that access to education should be equal for all children.

And once again, I would like to emphasize that the following turnover of this document is filled out only if you indicated that the child lives anywhere.

Permission to film a child at school
(if you do not want to, you can not sign)

Notice of access to the LAUSD online system
(this is for ordering meals for the child, etc.) this document. Please fill it out carefully.

By and large, no form contains any complicated questions: carefully read the captions under each field and enter what they ask you to enter there. nine0003

In addition to all these forms, when schools learn that a child has a non-native English language, they give you a form to sign that you are aware that the child is immersed in an English-speaking environment and that he will be given special attention to develop his language skills. From “special attention” can be waived later by writing a statement about it.

Plus, there are “extension programs” in schools. Specifically, in our it is free. To sign up for it, you need to fill out another form, but there are the standard full name of the student + signatures of the parents and that’s all, so I don’t give it here. nine0003

Lessons start at approximately 08:15. In our school, everything is strict: the gates close at exactly 08:00, and then the entrance is only through the building of the school administration with a special ticket-permission to enter the classroom after the bell. So learn and don’t be late! 🙂

How Texas Is ‘Shifting the Power’ to Give Some Schools Greater Autonomy, Leadership & Innovation – The 74

    By Bekah McNeel

Why three San Antonio school districts are embracing Texas’s “System of Great Schools” initiative, which encourages autonomous schools and powerful principals

    San Antonio, Texas

In Texas, it’s safe to say that all eyes are on San Antonio ISD. The high-poverty district has made the most of a united board, a change-friendly superintendent, and a team of ambitious leaders to improve schools one by one in some of the city’s poorest zip codes. Along the way they’ve inflamed their union, what Superintendent Pedro Martinez sees as the inevitable consequence of a “shift in the power base.”

But San Antonio ISD isn’t the only Texas district realigning its own stars. It’s part of a statewide initiative the Texas Education Agency began two years ago to help districts transition away from a traditional model — a school system operated by its central administration and board of trustees. The System of Great Schools model, instead, wants to see autonomous schools operated by whoever can deliver results, be it districts, charter networks, nonprofits, or universities.

“These districts will be positioned to take bold actions to improve schools and provide parents with the schools and programs they desire,” Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said in a press release when the program launched. “The goal is to ensure every child has access to a high-quality learning environment.”

Texas wants to “to build the capacity of districts to create the type of high-quality, best-fit schools that their community wants and deserves,” Joe Siedlecki, the state’s associate commissioner of school improvement, innovation, and charters, told The 74.

Siedlecki’s department looks for district superintendents and school boards who are already interested in bringing more options to parents but don’t have the tools they need to do so effectively.

“Most have joined [the program] because they know their parents want more options,” Siedlecki said. “Once they do, the agency will provide support and technical assistance.”

School boards, meanwhile, would have one job — to authorize and close schools based on their performance. Most central administrations would likely need to restructure in order to meet the needs of autonomous schools.

So far, two groups of eight districts throughout the state have gone through the yearlong System of Great Schools training. Three are in San Antonio, where a rapidly expanding charter sector and northward sprawl have left urban districts struggling to compete. San Antonio ISD and South San Antonio ISD were part of the first group, and Edgewood ISD has joined the second.

The System of Great Schools method is a combination of four “levers” or strategies. Ultimately the goal is campus autonomy, but there’s more than one way to get there.

San Antonio and South San Antonio ISD have fully embraced the model, though each is rolling it out in a different way. San Antonio ISD, with its 50,000 students in the urban core of the city, is pulling all levers at once. South San Antonio, which serves just under 10,000 students in a more sparsely populated quadrant of the city, is systematically moving from one lever to the next. Edgewood, which is currently under state sanction and on its fourth superintendent in three years, is in the early stages of the System of Great Schools training. Administrators there hope it could help revive the tiny district, which has a long history of struggle against generational poverty.

    Related:

78207: America’s Most Radical School Integration Experiment

All three San Antonio districts have been losing students to charter schools and surrounding suburban districts, which leaves their budgets in crisis. Superintendents see the options created by the System of Great Schools approach as the best hope for bringing students back.

WATCH — Competitors to Collaborators: What a Texas Superintendent Learned in Welcoming Top Charters to Town:

    Lever One: Set expectations

The first strategic step encourages districts to create a performance framework for schools as they gain autonomy. This works best if every school eventually becomes accountable to the same standard, whether it’s a neighborhood school, a specialized or magnet campus, or a charter network operating within the System of Great Schools.

So far, San Antonio ISD is the only San Antonio district to open its doors to charter networks. Democracy Prep Public Schools and Relay Graduate School of Education are already operating turnaround campuses in the district. Other charter networks have come in to assist with credit recovery programs and special education.

Democracy Prep and Relay have two years to show significant gains, or else lose their charter. If they succeed, they will likely be given the opportunity to expand. It may not need to be said, but this is where things got hairy for San Antonio ISD and its union. Charter operators often demand to hold the contracts for school employees. While Relay’s staff at the long-struggling Ogden Elementary School remained district employees, the staff at the school Democracy Prep took over are not unionized district workers.

    Related:

From Troubled School to Turnaround to Texas ‘Teaching Lab’

San Antonio ISD also has other “in-district charter schools,” designed and operated by its own staff. Those should be subject to the same rigorous standards, the district’s chief innovation officer, Mohammed Choudhury, argued.

The performance agreement, which is still in development, can’t create a “double standard” for some partnerships just because they were more controversial, he said.

In South San Antonio, where the rollout of the System of Great Schools has been much quieter, the district will likely start with a performance agreement, to be adopted in 2019. It will apply to all campuses, and principals will know that if they fail to meet the standards, the board can decide to redesign the school, bring in new leadership, or even bring in a new operator.

Lever Two: Expand what works, close what doesn’t, try new things

To implement the System of Great Schools model as the state intends, boards have to be swift to pull the second lever: replicating what works and closing schools that don’t.

“Closing” schools is likely an inaccurate way to describe the process.

More often, a new operator or charter will be put in place, and the school building will keep its doors open. That’s how it happened at P.F. Stewart Elementary in San Antonio ISD, which opened in August 2018 as Democracy Prep at Stewart Elementary. New uniforms, new principal, new expectations, but the same building serving the same students.

“Same students” was a sticking point for his district, Superintendent Martinez said.

The System of Great Schools model allows districts to decide which, if any, operations will stay with the central administration or school board. In San Antonio ISD, Martinez showed that he’s willing to trade hiring and firing power and other personnel oversight, which Democracy Prep wanted to control, for enrollment, which Choudhury’s office determines.

Too often, Martinez said, kids who left to attend local charter schools didn’t “fit the mold” and ended up back in the district, discouraged. San Antonio ISD schools will not get to create a profile for the kind of students they will serve.

“I would never allow people to treat our children that way,” Martinez said. If Democracy Prep, Relay, and other charter partners are the difference-makers they are purported to be, he says, they can do it with kids from the neighborhood.

WATCH – One on One with Superintendent Pedro Martinez:

Critics still say that changing operators will destabilize the school, but Martinez and Choudhury point out that consistency isn’t helpful if it’s consistently failing.

While campuses like Stewart and Ogden will remain neighborhood schools, other campuses within San Antonio ISD are based entirely on open enrollment. Specialized schools like the Advanced Learning Academy (which offers a gifted and talented program that doesn’t screen students), Steele Montessori, and a growing number of dual language academies rely solely on families applying to an enrollment lottery. This has allowed the district to attract middle-class families back into the district, while still reserving seats for student from the highest-poverty neighborhoods in the district. Each of these “diverse by design” schools has a waiting list.

WATCH — Inside San Antonio’s Advanced Learning Academy, Where Gifted & Talented Is Open to All:

San Antonio ISD’s neighborhood schools can also apply to become autonomous “in-district charters” with special curriculum and calendars. With support from two-thirds of campus teachers and parents, principals can totally redesign their school to make it work for their students.

These do not necessarily become open enrollment schools, Choudhury explained, just great neighborhood options.

In South San Antonio ISD, the district has magnetized its three middle schools, creating academies for the arts, health careers, and STEM education. It also opened an early college high school. Already, chief academic officer Delinda Castro said, families are responding. Of the 728 rising sixth-graders in the district, 370 are participating in magnet programs.

“We were very surprised at how many kids and parents chose our academies,” Castro said.

    Lever Three: Connect with families

Lever three of the System of Great Schools model charges districts with ensuring families have the information and access they need to take advantage of school choice within the district.

Here, Choudhury said, districts using the System of Great Schools model have to be proactive if they want all students to benefit.

“If you want equity and access, you have to design for equity and access,” Choudhury has said on numerous occasions.

A single enrollment process can allow parents to apply to multiple open-enrollment schools with one — hopefully simple — online or app-based form. But it has to go further, Choudhury said.

Enrollment offices like his have to commit to door-to-door, bilingual parent engagement and a persistent follow-up campaign to make sure that students are not sorted between those whose parents have time to follow up and those who are working around the clock to provide for their families.

Transportation is another non-negotiable, Choudhury said. San Antonio does not have an efficient public transit system, so the district, which encompasses 90 schools, has to modify bus routes to allow students to cross the district if necessary.

    Lever Four: Make it stick

Once the groundwork for school autonomy is laid, districts can pull the fourth lever. Continued school autonomy will require the central administration and board to provide support and funding accordingly.

The model works best when funding follows the student, according to guidance documents from the Texas Education Agency.

In the System of Great Schools model, a district’s central administration would be one of many options for principals and school leaders to choose from when selecting support services, curriculum, and professional development. At South San Antonio ISD, that means competing on the open market, said Castro.

“It’s a reframing of central office,” Castro said. “We’re here to serve schools, not the other way around.”

When Superintendent Martinez referred to a “shift in power,” he was talking about his teachers union. San Antonio ISD teachers have the most protective contracts in the state, and those are in jeopardy at each autonomous school.

In South San Antonio, where teachers have never had protective contracts, the challenge will be shifting power away from the elected school board, which has a history of micromanagement.

So where does all that power go? In the System of Great Schools model, it goes to the principals.

Because few districts are going to start hiring from scratch, most will need to consider how to get their existing fleet of principals ready to take on more responsibility.

The system won’t work, Choudhury said, if the district just turns everyone loose and leaves them to do whatever they want with their campus. Autonomy is the goal, but it may be a gradual process for some.

It’s still early, with no conclusive evidence that the System of Great Schools model is going to be a panacea for districts like San Antonio, South San Antonio, and Edgewood ISD. It does, however, free them to try new things until they find what works. That, school leaders say, is a welcome change.

    Texas System of Great Schools

This post is the second in a series examining how REL Southwest, the Texas Education Agency,
    and other partners in the
Southwest School Improvement Research Partnership are collaborating to examine and
improve support for district and school improvement in the state. Coauthors Paul Pastorek,
former Louisiana superintendent of education, and Duncan Klussmann, former Spring Branch
Independent School District superintendent and general superintendent coach for the Texas
System of Great Schools (SGS) Network, discuss how SGS empowers schools by supporting
district leaders, ultimately ensuring more students go to more great schools. Learn how
Texas SGS districts manage school performance and improve access to high-quality schools.
    (Read
    Part 1 of the series.)

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has engaged us to serve as executive advisors to support school district superintendents
who want to explore innovative methods to operate their school systems. It is an exciting
project because it provides practical solutions using a systematic approach to manage all
    schools to quality.

Is there a better way to run school systems than the traditional approach used by most
    system leaders?

Yes, a district superintendent and his or her team can do much better than simply keeping schools up and running and compliant.
Most district teams want to do more than that, but most do not have a tried and tested
system that can generate high-quality schools.

    In
cities like Denver, Spring Branch (TX), Indianapolis, Washington D.C., and New
Orleans, new models of running school districts have emerged that have shown preliminary
signs of improving student outcomes. In these cities, districts are using the
    strategies and resources of the
System of Great Schools (SGS). A key aspect of the SGS approach is that each
school system shapes it to meet the unique needs of their local community.

What is a System of Great Schools?

A System of Great Schools is one where schools have much greater responsibility and flexibility to deliver education to students
in that local school community. It is built on the belief that the people closest
to the action make the best decisions about teaching and learning.

The TEA SGS strategy is a system-level innovation and problem-solving approach that seeks to:

    • Support educators to design and lead high-quality schools
    • Empower families with high-quality options and informed choices
    • Focus central offices on high-leverage oversight, innovation, and support activities

Foundational to the work of SGS is a district-designed framework that defines quality and measures whether a school is making
    progress toward improvement. The
School Performance Framework is developed with community input to ensure the
needs and priorities of the students, school, and community are met. Communities
describe the schools they want, and the district engages schools to identify and
measure these priorities. Once you have a framework, you can measure schools and
hold them accountable to live up to the community’s expectations.

The framework launches a district into a new way of operating, doing things differently than it may have in the past. The
central office becomes responsible for developing and implementing the framework.
It begins to shift additional responsibility for running schools to school leaders,
tells them what it expects, and empowers them to create strategies and determine
how they will meet priorities. Districts move away from a one-size-fits-all approach
to one in which they are addressing specific needs in service to the schools and
sharing and spreading practices that are successful.

How can a System of Great Schools empower school leaders to thrive?

Change can happen and school leaders can lead—if you trust them to lead. In every school district there are trailblazer
principals. The district office doesn’t have to tell them what to do; they just do
it. When told what to do, they may ignore the district office. Yet they not only
survive, they thrive. Find those leaders who do well according to the framework and
you have the basis for starting the work. Create a cohort out of that leadership
group and give them support for
autonomous decision-making. To start, give leaders modest autonomy:

    • Staffing – including determining who they hire and who they remove
    • Budget – flexibility on how money is spent, with training on how to follow
      the rules and be accountable
    • Curriculum and Instruction – flexibility to select, implement, and modify the
      school’s curriculum and instruction model

If they fail, they lose some flexibility. If they succeed, they gain more flexibility.

SGS is about trying to take weak or good schools in a district and make them Great Schools.
It’s about relying on the ingenuity of a principal to determine for his or her school
a better way of teaching the children who attend every day, who are often far different
than kids at other schools. It is about believing in people.
