description, content, interesting facts and more about the movie

Paris, 1891. The artist Paul Gauguin comes to his agent, who at that time receives a visitor and tries to convince her that Gauguin’s paintings are not daub, but works of art. He tells the artist that none of his paintings have been sold and gives Gauguin a small advance. Gauguin with fellow artists in a cafe discusses the current situation. He tells them that it is “time to get out of France”, the climate here is disgusting and life is too expensive. We need to go to Polynesia, there they will find heaven on earth, they will hunt, fish and paint. Life on the islands is practically worthless. Who is with me? Gauguin’s idea does not inspire his friends. His family comes to Gauguin from Copenhagen: his wife Matte-Sophie and five children. They are placed in a cramped little room, the children complain of crampedness and stench. Gauguin invites his wife to go with him to Polynesia. She refuses: children should get an education, this is the only way to get out of poverty. After a farewell party with friends, Gauguin travels to Tahiti. nine0003

On the island, Gauguin settles in a seaside village near the locals. He reads a letter from his wife: your works are not for sale, I have no money, I am sending you a hundred francs, my relatives approve of our break, which I decided to. Gauguin rides home on a horse, taking a flask of alcohol. He falls to the ground and wakes up in the hospital. He had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital by a neighbor. The doctor tells Gauguin that he needs treatment in the main city of Tahiti – Papeete. He has heart problems and is diabetic. Gauguin leaves the hospital the next day. He tells the doctor that before he dies, he wants to visit the highlands in the center of the island. Gauguin is on his way. He admires the waterfall, eats mangoes, tries to fish in the streams. The artist reaches a Polynesian village that has not yet been touched by civilization. The local tribe welcomes the Frenchman. He is offered a local girl as his wife. So Gauguin meets Tekhura. The girl’s mother tells Gauguin: if after a month of living together the wife is not happy, she will leave him. Tehura tells her husband Polynesian legends about the creation of the world. nine0003

Gauguin brings Tehura to his place. He constantly paints her portraits, forcing her to take one or another pose. Tehura washes clothes on the bank of the river, a Polynesian guy stares at her. Gauguin tells the visiting doctor that he feels great. He examines the work of the artist: Tahitian Venus, it’s great! Gauguin clarifies: this is the first Eve, wild and chaste, she is like an animal. The doctor says the island will soon run out of canvases for your paintings. Gauguin complains of poverty, he has not received money from France for a month now. The artist and the doctor sit at night on the ocean and drink. The next day, Gauguin gives the doctor the packaged paintings and asks him to send them to France. nine0003

In search of a canvas, Gauguin enters a shop owned by a Chinese merchant, he finds a piece of canvas, brings it home, processes it, primes it, and paints another portrait of Tehura.

Gauguin plays with children on the seashore. A neighbor, a young guy, finds a rifle in Gauguin’s house and aims at the artist.

Local people go to church. The wife asks Gauguin to buy her a white dress, she wants to attend church services in it. Gauguin says that she is already beautiful, he has no money, Tehure has nothing to do in the church. nine0003

Tehura goes to church. She is standing there next to a guy who is looking at her, his name is Zhotefa. Leaving the church, the couple goes to the forest thickets. Gauguin is watching them.

Gauguin and Jotef are cutting down trees, clearing them of branches. Gauguin carves sculptures from wooden chocks, Zhotefa tries to imitate him. Tehura tells her husband that she is hungry. The next day, Gauguin leaves for Papeete. There, in the market, he tries to sell his paintings, but for the whole day only one wooden sculpture is bought from him. He asks thirty francs for her, but receives only ten. He buys paint. Returning home, Gauguin hears his wife’s sobs in the dark: there are no candles left in the house. nine0003

Gauguin asks merchant Vey for a loan, he says that he also needs to feed his family, and therefore he works a lot. Gauguin goes with the fishermen to the sea. He manages to catch three fish. He treats his wife and reports that all three fish were caught on a hook that stuck into their lower lip. According to local beliefs, this means that such a fisherman was cheated on by his wife. Tehura asks her husband to beat her if he thinks so. Otherwise, his anger will not go away.

Gauguin sees Jotef making wooden figurines. He says the guy is doing well. Then he sees several identical figures. Zhotefa says that whites are buying them up quite well. Gauguin becomes furious and tries to take the chisel away from the guy. He does not give up the tool. nine0003

Howling old women gathered at home near Tekhura. The doctor tells the artist that his wife has had a miscarriage, but she will be back to normal soon. Tehura tells Gauguin that he wants to return to his native village to his mother. Gauguin promises to take care of her.

In a new white dress, Tehura goes to church. Next to her is Zhotefa. At night, Gauguin discovers the disappearance of his wife. He goes to Zhotef’s house, but his father says he doesn’t know where Tehura is. The next day, Gauguin and his wife moved to Papeete. There he gets a job as a docker. The Doctor still insists that Gauguin needs to return to France. There he will be able to improve his health, after which he can return to Polynesia again. Gauguin says he doesn’t want to leave Tahiti. nine0003

Gauguin sees Jotef selling wooden figurines in the market. He asks the guy how much he gets paid. Thirty francs each. Gauguin, going to work, locks Tuhura and forbids her to leave the house. After his departure, Zhotefa appears. Returning, Gauguin does not find his wife. He sits on the ocean shore in sadness, returns home and sees Tehura. Why are you here? I waited for you. Gauguin paints her portrait. He decided to go to France. Techura knows about it. They break up.

One of the first things a baby feels against his brand-new skin is the softness, warmth, and comfort of a receiving blanket. That’s why every newborn is welcomed with one of these.

While most hospitals have a ready supply of these blankets, as a new parent, you may want to bring one of your own.

This blog is a crash course in receiving blankets, and by the time you’re done reading it, you’ll know their uses, benefits, fabric choice, and more!

What is a Receiving Blanket?

The clue’s in the name – this is quite simply the first cloth you wrap a newborn in before handing them to the parents.

Considering how soft and sensitive a baby’s skin is, these blankets are silky smooth, lightweight, and hypoallergenic – typically made with 100% cotton, delicate muslin, or fuzzy flannel.

A receiving blanket is of enormous sentimental value and is generally retained as a keepsake by the baby’s family.

Here are the fantastic benefits of this blanket and why it should be the first item to pack in your hospital bag.

  1. Super Soft: A receiving blanket isn’t just soft. It is one of the most delicate fabrics to touch, making it perfect for the arrival of your bundle of love. It’s also pretty breathable to reduce the risk of overheating. Your baby would always be snug, calm, and dry in one of these!

  2. Small and Lightweight: These snuggly blankets are featherlight and allow good airflow. They come in various sizes, with the most common dimension of 30 inches x 30 inches – an ideal size to swaddle and wrap your baby comfortably.

  3. Non-Toxic: Any cloth used for a newborn should be skin friendly or, in other words, non-bleached or non-dyed. To be super safe that the blanket you pick is hundred percent chemical-free, choose organic.

  4. Eco-Friendly: Blankets made from organic fabrics like cotton, muslin, and bamboo aren’t just gentle on your baby but also on the planet. Organic materials are grown with low-impact techniques and without chemicals, GMOs, or pesticides.

Is a Baby Receiving Blanket Same as a Swaddle Blanket?

A swaddling blanket is wrapped around the baby to mimic a womb-like environment. It helps them nap better and longer by maintaining their sleeping position while keeping startling reflexes at bay.

The only thing that sets the two types of blankets apart is the size – receiving blankets tend to be more compact as they’re designed for babies at their smallest. A receiving blanket can just as well be used to swaddle till you need a bigger size.

7 Most Popular Receiving Blanket Fabrics

Out of the endless list of items to buy for your baby’s arrival, a receiving blanket might be the most important. Here are the seven most widely used fabric choices and why they are ideal for baby blankets.

  1. 1. Muslin

A delicate gauze muslin blanket is a godsend for a baby born in the warmer months. It is skin-friendly, breathable, and not to mention extraordinarily soft and cozy. In fact, the more you wash these blankets, the softer they get. A muslin blanket is typically large (47 inches x 47 inches) for easy swaddling of wiggly babies.

  2. 2. Organic Cotton

Muslin, flannel, jersey – there are a whole host of baby-friendly fabrics woven, knit, or felted using cotton fibers. You can also rely on good ol’ cotton in its natural form to bring your baby home. Even better if it’s organic. The earth-friendly organic cotton is produced using low-impact methods without pesticides, toxic chemicals, or genetically modified seeds.

  3. 3. Cotton Flannel

Winters and flannel is a match made in heaven! The soft, cozy, and durable flannel is woven cotton fabric with a napped finish on one or both sides. It’s thicker than muslin and fuzzy to the touch. While there are synthetic varieties of flannel available, we recommend only the highest-quality cotton flannel for your baby. Like muslin, flannel gets softer with every wash.

  4. 4. Jersey Knit

For cooler months, it’s best to go for a blanket made from cotton flannel or jersey knit, as these work brilliantly well in regulating body temperature. A jersey knit is quite like regular cotton in breathability but more robust, thick, and stretchy. Plus, you won’t face any piling or fraying hassles with this fabric. When buying a jersey knit blanket, make sure the edges are hemmed to prevent the ends from curling up.

  5. 5. Bamboo

When we say bamboo for a baby blanket, we mean organic bamboo. This fabric is soft, breathable, non-abrasive, and blessed with natural anti-microbial properties. On your quest for the perfect baby blanket, you might also come across blankets made of bamboo rayon. These come with all the goodness of bamboo while being extra stretchy, which is great for swaddling. However, we don’t recommend bamboo rayon for babies because of the chemically intensive manufacturing process.

  6. 6. Fleece

Soft, easy to maintain, quick drying, and super snug are some of the many qualities that make fleece a fantastic winter blanket fabric. But if you’re looking for a natural and sustainable material for your baby, synthetic fleece may not be such a good idea.

  7. 7. Wool

When it comes to regulating body temperature, wool trumps all. It also wicks moisture, keeping you comfy and dry as you sleep. For baby receiving blankets, softer and finer varieties of wool like merino would be your best bet, as ordinary wool might be too abrasive and harsh for a baby’s skin.

7 Amazing Uses of Baby Receiving Blankets

Your baby’s first few seconds out in the world are crucial – a soft and comforting receiving blanket will make their transition smoother. But there’s much more these blankets can do besides giving your baby the best snuggles. Here are seven different ways of using a receiving blanket.

  1. 1. Swaddle Blanket

The primary use of a baby receiving blanket, apart from wrapping a newborn baby, is using it as a swaddle cloth to induce long and disruption-free naps. Many experts believe swaddling may have been invented anywhere from 4000 to 4500 years ago! This ancient technique works magically in recreating the confines of a womb – a baby’s first home. It’s like one giant hug that keeps your baby safe from startling reflexes in their newborn days.

  2. 2. Makeshift Diaper Changing Mat

A flat piece of easy-to-wash and quick-drying cloth is all you need for a changing mat. And a baby blanket made from organic cotton fits the bill, holding up well, wash after wash. Just fold and store it in your diaper baby for sanitary, mess-free on-the-go diapering.

  3. 3. Tummy Time Mat

In the early months, a baby needs a few minutes of tummy time every day to strengthen their head, neck, and upper body and learn how to lift their head. Why buy a separate tummy time mat when you’ve got a receiving blanket around? These blankets usually come in packs of 2 or 3 to help with various baby activities apart from just swaddling.

  4. 4. Stroller Cover

You can never be too prepared while stepping out with your little one – This is why having one of these around with you all the time is a smart call. A receiving blanket can also act as a stroller cover to keep your newborn safe from insects, dust, and bright sunlight while on their daily strolls with you.

  5. 5. Photograph Backdrop

Most receiving blankets are usually unbleached and dyed, making them ideal for creating light and natural photography backdrops. You can buy an expensive fabric backdrop off the rack or use your baby’s blanket instead. We prefer the latter!

  6. 6. Multi-purpose Mess Cleaners

You can always cut it into smaller pieces if a receiving blanket feels too big to use as a burp cloth. Double gauze muslin blankets are great for cleaning spills, dribbles, and spit-ups, because of their high absorbency, easy care, and quick-drying qualities. And once your infant begins nibbling at solid foods, keep a bunch of these around, as babies can be messy eaters!

  7. 7. Nursing Cover-up

A 30-inch x 30-inch or a 30-inch x 40-inch receiving blanket is a decent size to be used as a breastfeeding cover-up. Also, storing these blankets in your handbag or diaper bag is absolutely hassle-free, thanks to their compact dimensions.

How to Use a Receiving Blanket – Safety Tips

As helpful as blankets are, they also pose a safety risk if not used carefully. Here are a few things to remember when using any type of baby blanket.

  • Do not place the blanket or any loose bedding in the crib while your baby sleeps.
  • Make sure your baby is supervised at all times, and the blankets in no way restrict their breathing.
  • Swaddling should be done firmly but not tightly to reduce the risk of overheating.
  • If you’re swaddling, do it right from birth, and not when the baby is two to three months old when the risk of SIDS is the highest.

For a detailed safety guide, please go through the pointers put together by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to prevent sleep-related mishaps.

Final Thoughts

The usefulness of a receiving blanket isn’t just restricted to welcoming or swaddling a baby in their newborn days. It’s a multi-functional cloth that’ll help you long after your baby’s birth. And after it’s served you well, you can craft it into a pillow cover or a memory quilt as a precious keepsake.

Receiving blanket vs swaddle: What’s the difference?

Shopping for baby stuff and wondering what the difference is between a receiving blanket and swaddle?

I swear that babies need to come with a thesaurus so that you can figure out all of new terms that come along with them!

Babies have slightly different bedding to older kids and adults, because there is a risk they can overheat under duvets.

So if you are wondering what on earth a receiving blanket is, whether you need a receiving blanket and if you also need to invest in a swaddle too, you’re in the right place!

Receiving blanket vs swaddle? We’ve got the answers right here!

Before we get to it, if you are confused by any other baby clothing terminology such as the difference between a onesie and bodysuit, then you need to check out my post on different types of baby clothes.

What is a receiving blanket?

A receiving blanket is a light, thin blanket that you swaddle, wrap or cover your newborn baby with.

They got the name because receiving blankets were what was traditionally used in the delivery room, with babies wrapped up in one before being “received” by their parents after birth.

So this was traditionally the first blanket a baby was wrapped in. Now it’s a term that covers a blanket used in the early months with a newborn baby and they can be used for a huge range of things.

Receiving blankets are typically around 30ins by 30ins or rectangular.

The receiving blanket does not have to have a specific “look” and it isn’t made from a particular type of material. It could be made from light cotton or soft flannel. However the classic receiving blanket you would probably recognise is the blue and red striped white blanket typically used in (mainly US) hospitals (scroll down to see a video on swaddling on you’ll see one there).

The receiving blanket is traditionally very versatile and can be used for swaddling as well as a light blanket to cover baby when out and about.

They’re made from a light fabric so that baby does not overheat if they are used for swaddling.

Duvets are not recommended for babies, as stated by the NHS, so light blankets that can layered to add warmth are the best thing to use. Such as a receiving blanket!

You can use receiving blankets for the following things:

  • Swaddling (where baby is wrapped in a light, breathable blanket below the neck)
  • An extra blanket over baby to keep them warm at night (remember to tuck it under their arms so it does not cover their face)
  • Burping
  • Tummy time mat
  • Play mat
  • Breastfeeding cover
  • Changing mat cover (to soak up any accidents when changing the nappy)
  • Makeshift bib
  • Car seat cover

What is a swaddle?

A swaddle is a blanket used to wrap up, or swaddle, a newborn baby.

Swaddling is where a baby is wrapped below the neck in a way to make them feel snug and secure.

It can help them to sleep as being wrapped up snuggly reminds baby of being in the womb.

Swaddle blankets come in many different forms. The traditional swaddle blanket would be a thin cotton square or rectangular blanket, such as a receiving blanket, that you wrapped around baby.

However you can now purchase pre-made swaddles that do up with poppers or zips or have winged sides to make them easy to fold snugly around your baby.

This means there is no more fumbling around in the dark trying to secure a blanket as a swaddle!

How to swaddle your baby

If you do have a square or rectangular blanket (such as a receiving blanket) then here’s a step-by-step guide to how you can use it to swaddle your baby.

  • Fold swaddle into a triangle and place baby into the centre with their shoulders just below the fold.
  • Place your baby’s right arm across their body then pull the right hand part of the swaddle across baby’s chest (with their arm under the fabric) and tuck the edge of the swaddle under their body and beneath their left arm.
  • Fold the bottom of the swaddle up and over baby’s feet. Tuck the fabric into the top of the swaddle.
  • Place baby’s left arm alongside their body and take the left hand side of the swaddle and pull it across baby’s chest over their arm. Tuck the edge of the fabric under their body.

The swaddle should be snug, but not too tight and the fabric should be loose around the hips so their legs can move freely.

You should stop swaddling once your baby shows signs they are learning to roll over, which can be at around two to three months.

If all of this looks daunting then buy a pre-made swaddle that you pop baby in just like a sleeping bag!

Receiving blanket vs swaddle: What’s the difference between a receiving blanket and swaddle?

A receiving blanket is a thin baby blanket that can be used to swaddle or cover a newborn baby, and a swaddle is a blanket or pre-wrapped cover used to swaddle a baby.

So a receiving blanket can be used as a swaddle blanket. And a blanket used to swaddle may be a receiving blanket.

The two terms are then fairly interchangeable.

Both are made from light and breathable fabrics, both are used to swaddle a baby and both are for the newborn days.

The key difference when it comes to receiving blankets vs swaddles seems to be size, with many swaddle blankets slightly bigger than traditional receiving blankets.

Receiving blankets may also tend to be thicker, whereas swaddle blankets are often made from lighter material such as giant muslin swaddles.

What is a baby shawl?

If a receiving blanket is something you first wrap your baby in and a swaddle is used to wrap your baby up tight, what is a baby shawl?

This is another type of blanket used for newborns!

A baby shawl is a square or rectangular type of blanket made from wool, cashmere, merino or cotton.

They tend to be white or cream and feature pretty detail and scalloping around the edges.

Prince George was presented to the world by his parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wrapped in a baby shawl back in 2013 outside St Mary’s Hospital in London shortly after his birth.

Pretty shawls are often used in newborn baby photography as they are pretty and practical, with more of a traditional look to them than other modern baby blankets.

Are receiving blankets necessary?

No you don’t have to buy any receiving blankets for your baby, but you may well find yourself with something very similar to what a receiving blanket is!

Many newborn baby blankets on the market are basically receiving blankets, but they’re just not specifically called that.

They may simply be called baby blanket, swaddling blankets, cellular blankets, muslin blanket or newborn blanket.

Look for things like giant swaddling muslins (which are light and perfect for use as swaddles, blankets or burp cloths), light cotton blankets or cotton cellular blankets.

These are all perfect as first blankets for a newborn baby that are light enough to be used as layers if your baby is born in winter or as nights get chillier.

You may also like: Newborn baby essentials

How many receiving blankets do you need for a baby?

Four to six receiving blankets is a good number to start with for your newborn baby. It often depends on how often you prefer to do laundry as to whether you need a higher number of items or not!

This means if there are any accidents or spillages during nappy changes or when feeding you will always have some spare, plus you can layer blankets up in the winter to keep baby warm.

But as I’ve said above, many baby blankets do the same job as receiving blankets but they just aren’t specifically called that.

Don’t get too hung up on finding a product that specifically fits the bill of a receiving blanket.

You may well find it useful to have two to three swaddle blankets and two to three receiving blankets. Then when your baby is a few months old you may like to switch to baby sleeping bags which are great as baby cannot kick them off!

When putting baby to bed with blankets ensure they are tucked under the armpits so baby cannot wriggle underneath

Tips for using blankets with your baby

When using swaddle, receiving blankets or any other bedding with your baby, try following these tips:

  • When tucking your baby in, remember to make sure blankets are tucked below baby’s shoulder level and their feet are at the bottom of the bed, so that they cannot wriggle under the covers.
  • When swaddling keep the swaddle loose so that baby can move their legs freely as this is better for their hips.
  • Whatever type of baby blanket you choose, go for lighter layers, such as cellular blankets, that can be added and removed depending on the temperature of the room. You may find the temperature of baby’s room will drop overnight, so you may want to add a blanket before you go to bed.
  • Choose machine washable bedding. Accidents will happen with babies and it’s much easier to be able to throw everything into a washing machine.
  • Baby sleeping bags are fantastic once baby is a few weeks old. They prevent your little one from kicking the covers off their legs. They come in different tog ratings which you can use depending on the season and temperature of their room.

What is the best filling for a baby blanket

Manufacturers offer a wide range of natural and artificial fillers for baby blankets. What is better, how to choose, so that the child does not experience discomfort, but sleeps calmly and soundly. Our article will help you understand the pros and cons of different fillers and make the right choice.

Every mother strives to provide her child with maximum comfort during sleep. To do this, they dim bright lights, turn down the volume of the TV, and even try to walk around the apartment in such a way as to exclude sharp and loud sounds. nine0007 But there is one more component of a comfortable sleep – it is a properly selected blanket. Let’s get on with it and talk about it today, as the large and varied selection of fillings used in duvets can sometimes be confusing. To avoid this, consider which filler for a baby blanket to prefer.

Down

Filled with natural waterfowl down. It can be a swan, loon, goose. These duvets are lightweight and keep you warm. Although for a child, this quality can be negative, since overheating of the baby is possible, which is absolutely undesirable. nine0007 In addition, down tends to absorb moisture and become damp. This means that the blanket must be regularly dried and ventilated. Natural down filler is a favorable breeding ground for bed mites that cause allergic reactions.

Synthetic

An alternative to natural down is an artificial analogue made from padding polyester, comforter, holofiber. Such blankets are lightweight, good thermal conductivity and hypoallergenic, as well as easy and simple care. They can be machine washed at home. They dry quickly without losing their shape. nine0003

Wadded

These duvets are filled with natural cotton in the form of wadding. It does not cause allergic reactions, keeps heat well and “breathes”. But due to the impressive weight of such products, the popularity of cotton filler is falling. Blankets with such a filler are difficult to wash at home. Cotton wool dries for a long time and clumps, which significantly reduces the consumer qualities of a wadded blanket.

Woolen

These items also contain natural filler from sheep, camel, goat, as well as Australian merino or alpaca. Blankets with wool are light, hygroscopic and breathable. They reliably warm, keeping the balance of temperature and moisture. nine0007 There are varieties of woolen blankets in the form of small blankets, indispensable helpers for a walk and during trips to nature.
The disadvantages of such products include the need to protect them from the constant attacks of voracious moths that can spoil the appearance of the blanket.

Bamboo

The most modern filler, also of natural vegetable origin. Products are distinguished by their low weight, the absence of allergic irritations, foreign odors. The natural properties of the filler exclude the appearance of unwanted microorganisms and insects, which is very important when using. Bamboo-filled blankets do not require special care and serve for a long time without losing their properties. nine0007 Often such products are chosen for warm seasons, due to their lightness and naturalness.

How to choose

Before settling on one specific product, it is necessary to determine for yourself the goals and qualities expected from it. Hence the selection criteria will be formed:

• for summer or winter;
• large or small;
• natural or artificial;
• light or heavier.

Based on this, you will be able to choose a baby blanket with filler, which is guaranteed to create comfortable and healthy sleep conditions for your child, and the product itself will serve for a long time, while maintaining an attractive appearance. nine0003

How to choose the right baby blankets and pillows for babies? – article of the company “Mountain of Mattresses”

At Alvida you can order baby blankets and baby pillows .
Purchasing these bedding for a child’s room is not an easy task. A healthy and comfortable sleep of the child largely depends on this choice.

Important points in choosing baby blankets

In particular, baby blankets should have several positive qualities:
nine0003

  • First of all, it’s lightness. The baby blanket should not be too heavy so that the child can easily handle it while sleeping.
  • Second, breathability. A good blanket “breathes”, i.e. passes air directly to the child’s body. According to this indicator, it is not recommended to purchase a wadded blanket.
  • Thirdly, off-season. It means that in winter under such a blanket it is warm, and in summer it is hot. This requirement does not meet the duvet, which has a high density. The child may become hot under him and he opens up, as a result of which the sweaty body cools quickly and in the morning we most often get a cold. The best choice would be a blanket made of wool (For example, camel). nine0061

Hypoallergenicity is also considered an important factor. Most often, allergies are caused by mites and bed bugs, which eventually start up in blankets with down. However, sometimes in children, as well as in adults, there are allergic reactions to wool and some synthetic materials, from which fillers for blankets are often made. Therefore, before buying, it is recommended to check the child with an allergist.

Do not forget about durability and practicality. For example, lightweight baby blankets made of synthetic winterizer are easy to wash and retain their original shape after washing. However, it can also cause allergies in some children.
nine0003

Thus, we cannot make an unambiguous choice in favor of one or another type of blanket. Much depends on the individual characteristics of the child. You can consult on this issue with specialists from Alvida.

Pillow selection for children

Before purchasing a pillow for a child, you need to pay special attention to the quality of the internal filler:

    • Down pillows. Usually they are filled with down and feathers of geese and some other waterfowl. Here, several stages of fluff cleaning are considered an indicator of quality, preventing the appearance of harmful insects in pillows. nine0061
    • Pillows for children made of sheep wool.

Opening the old world

It is harmful for employees to know the salary of colleagues and bosses

Fotolia / PhotoXPress

The employee can, the employer does not.

Kira Koruma

Attorney-at-law, Head of Litigation and Arbitration Practice at Yakovlev & Partners Legal Group.
“The inclusion of clauses on non-disclosure of information about salaries in labor contracts is a personal initiative of employers. This paragraph has no legal force. The employer has the right to designate the employee’s responsibility for disclosing information that is a trade secret, but according to the federal law “On Trade Secrets”, wages cannot be a trade secret. There are no such restrictions in the Labor Code. At the same time, salary information is confidential information and is protected by the law “On Personal Data”. That is, the employee has the right to communicate it to anyone. But the employer has no such right.”

Law of the lower threshold

Disclosure of salaries can be dangerous. The difference in pay can cause resentment and envy – and especially among those who receive the least. In 2012, researchers at Princeton University and UC Berkeley surveyed 6,400 UCLA employees who had recently been exposed to payroll data. Employees who were paid below average were extremely unhappy when they found out that their colleagues were getting more. Many immediately began to look for a new job.

Three years ago, Brian Bader took a job at Apple Technical Support. At a meeting held with new recruits by the HR department, the managers read out a list of rules that all new hires in the company were required to follow. They were urged not to use obscene words in conversations with customers, to show respect for colleagues, and in no case to discuss their salary with other employees. Beder never complied with the last requirement. “I literally burned with curiosity,” says 25-year-old Bader.

Troublesome arithmetic

Bader himself was paid $12 an hour. During the work day, he used every free minute to get his colleagues to talk about salary, and eventually found out that everyone around was getting between $10 and $12 an hour. Apple declined to talk about its payroll policy.

Every week the management of the department held a meeting at which the results of the work of each employee were discussed. Managers even disclosed details such as the number of phone calls an employee answered in a week and the number of issues they resolved. Having found out the level of salaries, Bader suddenly realized that he wanted to quit. A comparative analysis of the results of his work and the level of salaries showed that he works twice as well as the weakest member of the team, and receives only 20% more. Three months later, Bader left Apple. “I hated to think about why, while doing twice as much work, I didn’t get twice as much money,” he recalls.

It’s better not to know

“Pay is one of the most sensitive issues in the organization, so it always requires caution,” comments Olga Sokolova, HR Director at 3M Russia. – In our company, it is not customary to share the level of salary with colleagues. Each employee has a different story within the organization, with different previous work experiences inside and outside the company. All this affects the current level of wages. ” According to Sokolova, employees at 3M are aware of the existence of an internal grading system that forms the corresponding salary brackets: “An employee knows his grade, but does not know the salary bracket for this grade. As for the size of the bonus, everything is the same here: employees know the percentage of the bonus for a certain category (this information is open), but the amount of bonus earned remains closed.

Talkative generation

For a long time, comparing the salaries of colleagues in office conversations was considered a complete taboo. But the situation began to change when representatives of the millennial generation (people born in the 1980s and 1990s, whose youth fell on the 2000s) entered the offices. They are accustomed to frankly discussing their personal lives in real time on Facebook and Twitter and have brought this model of liberated communication to the offices. They use the information they receive to bargain for a promotion from their current bosses or to demand a higher salary at a new job.

No wonder so many companies try to keep payroll information under lock and key. They want to remain masters of the bargaining wages and hope to keep their far from flawless and sometimes even discriminatory compensation systems secret.

But the one who owns the information conquers the world. And the younger generation understands this very well. “People are much more willing to talk about wages than they were 10 years ago,” said Kevin Hallock, director of the Compensation Research Institute at Cornell University. Salary information has become harder to hide thanks to the rapid development of the Internet, he says. There are sites like Glassdoor.com where people post salary information and other employer testimonials. Many people get the feeling that the salary is not a personal matter for everyone, it can be discussed publicly.

In 2012, 25-year-old Dustin Zeke was about to step down as a social media specialist at BuySeasons, an online retail company in Milwaukee. He made the decision to leave after comparing his salary with the salaries of 5-6 colleagues he trusted. The young man saw that most of his interlocutors were happy to share information about salaries.

Several of his colleagues also decided to find a new job. Through brainstorming, they agreed on the amount they would be demanding from potential employers and devised a strategy for discussing these salaries at the interview. Conversations with co-workers helped Zeke figure out exactly what salary he would like to earn in his new job as a social media specialist for a hotel chain.

“My generation was raised with transparency,” Zeke says. “The younger you are, the more the employer wants to get you on the cheap. That’s why it’s so important to know how much colleagues in similar positions earn,” he adds.

The mentality does not allow

“In Russian companies, this is most often a closed topic,” says Natalya Troshina, head of the Nagatino i-land business park’s HR department. – Managers know the salaries of their structural unit, but such information is usually not disclosed between structural units, comparative conversations are not welcome. This is how it has historically developed in the country.”

“I don’t ask my friends and partners about their income level. And I probably prefer not to answer this question myself. But not because it is an uncomfortable topic, but because I don’t really understand the purpose of the question,” says Denis Ryzhov, general director of the Key Link agency. – In general, the reluctance of people to voice their income is more connected with the mentality, habits and stereotypes. Any interference in personal space is perceived with caution. We immediately see the trick. And if it comes to money, the desire to underestimate is triggered – also, if you like, part of our worldview. Remember for yourself: when you are asked, for example, how much your tour cost, you will probably name an amount that will be less than the real one. Why? Just so that they don’t envy, so that they don’t think anything like that and don’t ask for a loan. And if we talk about the policy of our agency, then it is open exactly to the extent that the employees themselves want to be open. If they want to discuss this topic, they will discuss it.”

Scale rank

Companies may not like this kind of salary transparency, but under US law they can’t stop employees from discussing earnings, says Charles Caulkins, an employment lawyer at Fisher & Phillips law firm in Fort Lauderdale. This means that any attempt to prescribe in the internal rules of the company a ban on the dissemination of information about wages is a violation of the law, he adds.

Jay Edelson, founder of several high-tech companies, including the social networking site Digg, decided to experiment with wages at one of his startups. He created and published in the company a clear salary scale, which clearly demonstrates to employees how much a specialist of one level or another earns. Thus, everyone gets the feeling that their work is paid fairly. The individual salaries of each member of the team are not disclosed, although the amount of the individual bonus is set based on the results of a survey of colleagues.

Employees and employers who support the idea of compensation transparency say that such a system helps people understand that they are being paid fairly. In addition, it reduces the level of discrimination in the team.

“Every employee in an organization needs to understand the pay system without comparing themselves to others. “After all, a person may begin to think that his contribution to the common cause is much higher than that of a colleague,” says Sokolova from 3M. “It seems to us in the company that so far the society in our country is not ready for such a step: the risk and negative consequences for the company and employees are too great.”

“In many companies on the Russian market, the discussion of salaries and bonuses is still taboo. This happens because not everywhere there is a clear system for evaluating the performance of personnel and determining the amount of additional payments, ”says Cesari Piskorz, HR Director of Philips in Russia and the CIS. It is because of this that employers seek to keep information confidential. Although the transparency of information about the salary system is the key to the motivation of employees, their focus on results and, in general, the success of the company, Piskorts believes.

Knowledge of the rules of the game and a clear understanding of how the system of salary distribution and bonus accrual gives employees a complete understanding of what their prospects are and what needs to be done to achieve career growth. Philips explains to employees the relationship between what they can do for the company and what they can get from it, says Piskortz: it is important to avoid subjectivity here – and this goal is served by clear salary mechanisms based on job categories, as well as transparent bonus distribution schemes, the size which directly depends on the personal achievements of the employee.

15 Small-Scale Daycares & Preschools in Rowlett, TX

Your family is unique to you, but some of your questions might not be. 😉 Here’s what most parents want to know when starting out.

What is NeighborSchools?

Hey there, nice to meet you 👋 We’re a new-ish startup that helps new-ish parents find daycare.

We know how hard finding good child care can be – especially for first-time parents. But really good care is what gives you the peace of mind to go back to work and feel confident that your child is getting the stimulation, socialization, and support they need to learn and grow.

So we created NeighborSchools to make this piece of parenthood a whole lot easier. We say “easier” because, let’s be honest, it’s still a big thing to figure out, but working together we can help you find some good options, understand the whole process, and choose a program you’ll feel really good about.

How’s it work?

Most first-time parents don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, so we created a simple survey that will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your daily routines, and your preferences for child care. We’ll then share 3 personalized recommendations that we think might be a good fit. We’ll also give you a timeline that maps out when we would suggest you start touring programs, choose a daycare, and pay a deposit to secure a spot. Your timeline is based on when you want to start care – so you set the pace, and you decide when you’ve found the right match.

Is there a cost?

Nope. Our daycare recommendation service is free for parents. The other half of our business is helping these small-scale daycares with software and services that handle all their administrative tasks, like online contracting, payment processing, and licensing requirements. Before NeighborSchools, services like these were only designed for large corporate child care centers, and part of our mission is to level the playing field for small, independent child care programs. That’s why we picked the name NeighborSchools – we’re all about making child care more personal, more human, and more equitable for the incredible individuals who do this work and care for our children.

How do I know if I’m ready to take the survey?

Generally, if you’re here, you’re ready. The survey lets us give you 3 recommendations to consider, but it’ll also help you better understand what factors to consider, and what questions to be asking right now. It’s simple things like where you live, your child’s date of birth, when you want to start care, and if you have any preferences around program philosophy or language of instruction. If you’re planning 6+ months ahead, it’s a great way to get started, and if you’re hoping to start daycare in the next 2-4 months, it’s definitely time to get started. Click here to start the survey.

How do I know if a daycare has openings?

Each program has a limited number of spots for each age range, so we need to know your schedule and child’s age before we can share availability. The survey covers these basics, as well as factors like drop-off and pick-up times to make sure that recommended programs fit your daily routine. Once we know your child’s age and schedule we can share rates and costs as well.

More questions? Text or email – we’re here to help.

We’re online Monday – Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern.

Q&A with Ms. Malak

What inspires you to care for young children?

Working with children is so rewarding. My background is in sociology, and I have worked with many children over the years, some who had unique challenges and had been through a lot in life. I love being able to contribute to the well-being of children in positive and lasting ways. I am loving and patient, and I always treat kids equally, and like they are my own. Kids feel comfortable and safe in my home program and with me – and they learn so much here. The work I do is so meaningful in so many ways!

What’s a typical day like at your daycare?

My program is Montessori based – our activities are hands-on, and kids learn by doing. We follow the children’s lead in terms of what we do each day – but most days, our schedule includes a mix of pretend/imaginative play, outdoor time – including planting seeds for our garden, arts & crafts, games, and music and movement. Participating in active learning and discovery allows kids to reach their full potential – emotionally, physically, and intellectually, and it’s amazing to watch this happen every day!

What’s one thing parents should know about your program?

Every child is different and learns in a different way! I have a lot of patience, and will never, ever give up on a child. I am patient, and I know there is always a way to help someone learn on their own terms, and at their own pace. Kids here have a lot of one-on-one time, and I will try many different methods to help kids meet their goals and learn. Parents should know that will keep them informed through conferences, daily feedback, daily notes, and sending home their child’s weekly work folder. They will always know how their child is doing and be able to see their progress!

Rates & Openings

Daycare rates depend on how old your child will be and what your schedule looks like. 5 days / week might get a slight discount, and infant rates are usually more than toddlers’. Finding a spot also depends on age and schedule because each daycare has a limited number of openings for each age range.

Olga Ro: the castle is Scottish, the garden is English

In 2014, she became the owner of Inchdrewer Castle in Scotland and became a Baroness. And in 2016, she bought an English estate and, inspired by an old garden, created a summer collection of women’s clothing “My English Garden” under her own brand Rohmir.

“Russian Roulette” caught the show of the collection at London Fashion Week and immediately realized – I need to take … an interview! They decided to talk during the shooting for the cover at the private airport Wycombe Air Park.

“Our family lived in Monaco for more than five years, traveled mainly by planes from Nice and helicopters to it,” says Olga with a sly smile, expertly sitting at the helm of a Eurocopter AS 355 helicopter. familiar. As the old Soviet song goes: “We, friends, are migratory birds… The sky is our dear home.”

I got used to the nomadic life: in the 90s I worked as a fashion model, starred in commercials, and once even in movies. In addition, she graduated from the university and defended her doctoral dissertation, worked at the University of Zurich. Studied philology, history, psychology, literature. But I really found myself not in the academic world, but in fashion! Having lived in Switzerland, Monaco and England (where I subsequently studied design), in 2007 she created her own luxury fashion brand Rohmir.

And it started spinning – Fashion Weeks in London and Paris, own boutiques in London, Berlin and Zurich. Then I also established a factory and opened a showroom in Hong Kong; collections, sketches, catalog shoots, model shows and shows… But this could not go on forever, children need a home, a native nest. Yes, and at some point I want to break away from all this, be alone and spend time with my family, go to the theater, read, look through photo albums, work in the studio on another portrait, do karate or just relax. By the way, many of my ancestors were seafarers, admirals! So, the craving for travel is in my blood.

At that moment the photographer and the hairdresser began to capture Olga’s attention, and we realized that a simple interview with her would not work – there would be a lot of information, and it would be better to leave the conversation for dessert. Therefore, we first finished shooting the “heavenly” theme with helicopters, and later continued the conversation in the calm atmosphere of Mosimann’s Club.

Olga, British publications say that you and your husband bought Inchdrewer, a 16th-century Scottish castle, without even looking at it?

Inchdrewer Castle was built at the beginning of the 16th century on land that belonged to the Barclay de Tolly family. In 1746, while chasing “Handsome” Prince Charlie, who had become a popular figure in Scottish folklore, the castle was attacked by the troops of the English Duke of Cumberland. Prince Charlie is Carl Edward Stewart, pretender to the English and Scottish thrones. It was he who led the uprising of the Scots against the House of Hanover (English). On April 16, 1746, the armies of “Handsome” and the Duke of Cumberland met at the Battle of Culloden, near the castle of the Baroness Inchdrewer. The Duke won, and the battle was the last battle on the territory of the island of Great Britain. Such a story is very suitable for people with such a restless character as mine: a woman who breaks many stereotypes, overcomes routine and does not know boredom. Isn’t that very immodest about yourself? Of course, we have seen the castle before and knew its history very well: my husband is rather a man of cold mind, and spontaneity and unpredictability in our family is my prerogative.

It is said that the castle was visited by King Edward VII himself, nicknamed “Uncle of Europe” for being the uncle of several European monarchs, including Nicholas II and Wilhelm II. That is, the importance of Inchdrewer in the history of Great Britain is obvious. Tell us about the title you received along with the castle.

Quite right, Fleming and Mureliz were friends, they were in a long-term correspondence. It was Robin Mureliz who became the prototype of Bond in the book “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. Inchdrewer is also associated with Russian literature: “The storm of the twelfth year / It has come – who helped us here? / Frenzy of the people, / Barclay, winter or Russian god? This is Eugene Onegin, remember? Who has not heard of Barclay de Tolly, the brilliant field marshal of the Napoleonic wars? His ancestors moved from Scotland in 1621 to the free Hanseatic city of Rostock, because after the death of King Charles Stewart in Scotland, it became completely unsafe for them. They went to Rostock directly from Inchdrewer, because the land on which the castle stands belonged to the Barclay from Towy family (Towie, there are several versions). Translated into Russian through transformations, the surname of Prince Barclay de Tolly appeared. When Inchdrewer is restored, I hope that there will be an opportunity to restore its historical memory officially, from the Russian and Scottish side: a family appeared here that gave such a great man in world history! I hope that a monument or a memorial plaque with an inscription will be erected on the walls of our castle.

The film about the collection “My English Garden”, which was shown during London Fashion Week, was filmed in this castle?

House from Rohmir’s latest collection catalog is our new estate in an idyllic location near London, which seemed to fall asleep in the era of Jane Austen and still lives in the unhurried rhythm of that time. This is a large and cozy house with a beautiful garden, divine water lilies and water lilies bloom. This is an amazing garden! According to the stories of the previous owner, the heir to the Norman family, the director of the Royal Bank of England, all the plants that were interesting or considered outlandish for botanists of the 19th-20th centuries were planted in the garden. In those days, wealthy people had such a hobby!

So the fabrics with roses and lilies from the new Rohmir collection are a tribute to this garden?

In the pond of our English garden there is a unique plant named after the young Queen Victoria, who was famous for her bright appearance. This is the largest water lily in the world “Victoria Regia”. In 1837, it was opened by the German traveler R. Schomburg, who was in the English service. The discovery not only became a sensation in the botany of the time, but also helped Schomburg to receive a baronetcy for services to the British Empire. And the Russian poet of the Silver Age I. Severyanin wrote about this marvelous flower: “Our meeting is Victoria Regia: / Rarely, rarely in bloom . .. / Before and after it, life is an elegy / And hope in a dream.” In the wonderful garden that we now own, this “Victoria Regia” appeared immediately after the sensational discovery: all the wonders of garden art appeared here immediately after they were planted in the gardens of Her Royal Majesty. How could I not dedicate the collection of my fashion house to such a miracle, such a rare garden that has survived so many historical cataclysms?! Now I am responsible for this almost animated garden, as the Little Prince is responsible for his rose! In such an atmosphere, inspiration easily visits any creative person.

Yes, the collection is really very poetic. What was on your moodboard while working on it, besides “Victoria Regia”?

I will answer with lines from the magnificent K. Balmont: “My friend, there is joy and love, / There is everything that will happen again and again, / Although in other hearts, not in ours. / But, dear brother, / and you and I – / We are only dreams of Beauty, / We are only drops in eternal bowls / Never-blooming flowers, / Undying gardens. “My English Garden” is summer, the colors of the capricious English sky, the memories of Moscow childhood… It’s strange, isn’t it? My godmother was a professional gardener, today it’s called a landscape designer. Everything according to Raikin: a narrow specialization, mainly in rare varieties of roses and peonies. At our dacha near Moscow in Malakhovka, notorious to Moscow theater-goers and music lovers, she managed to conjure a real English garden! Moreover, this garden, by the rarity of the flowers and trees grown there, by their composition and beauty, was considered exemplary. There were often shootings for Soviet gardening magazines. Childhood memories have become the leitmotif of the new collection!

How do you work on collections?

All Rohmir collections are like stories that I tell my reader-viewer: each show for me is like a very important exam in front of a sophisticated and demanding audience, and the examiners are not only magazine editors, professionals, marketers, artists, photographers, but also clients. I create thematic collections: in the style of the twenties a la Garcon, in the style of the glamorous Hollywood of the 1930s and Mainbocher, Brigitte Bardot in the style of St. Tropez of the 50s and 60s, the collection of the ideal woman of Dali, the Scottish collection, the Vienna Imperial … For There have been many for ten years. It is a tremendous pleasure to work on a new topic, to discover the unknown, the unseen. I really consider myself a very lucky person who manages to do what he loves professionally!

Where does inspiration come from? After all, such complex themes are not quite typical of modern fashion…

Inspiration is a special state of mind when an artist is eager to express his thoughts, throw out, shout out something that was born only for a short moment. If you miss, you won’t catch. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and draw sketches, make sketches, sometimes this feeling is born, like a somnambulist, in a state of sleep. This artistic weightlessness helps me make collections the way you see them on the catwalk: feminine, lyrical, almost off the canvas. No pretentiousness, no feeling “Who is she doing this for? Will it all be worn? Yes! How can one not recall the wonderful song by the New Year tree from the film “Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears”: “What follows from this? Should live! / Sew sundresses and light dresses from chintz. / Do you think all this will be worn? / I believe that all this should be sewn! / It should be sewn, for no matter how much the blizzard circles, / Her bondage and disgrace are short-lived. / So allow me, in honor of the New Year’s ball / Hand to dance, madam, to offer you.

How can you do so much? Also sing songs!

I’m lucky enough to be an owl and a lark at the same time, so I usually get no more than four or five hours of sleep. “Obvious incredible” and “impossible possible” in one package – this is about me. Well, my songs are for the soul. You can not bury a single talent in yourself, as they say in the famous gospel parable. To whom much has been given…

A joke really. ..

I put the PVR on schedule to watch this show on HGTV. It was slotted to air at 10 PM at night, and I thought that was strange for such an icon to get such a bad time slot.

The first two episodes were not bad to watch. As a trained interior designer I did chuckle at Pamela claiming that she is a designer and knows exactly what she’s doing. I’ve seen the inside of her Malibu home and it’s not exactly an AD spread. When she wanted to design everything in white, is when I really started to chuckle, because this is the sign of someone who has no idea how to design and plays it safe by doing everything in white. And quite frankly she doesn’t do it well, (i.e. Lack of texture, too much cool, etc…)

When she started to admit that she drank a bunch of ciders the night before as she was egotistically flaunting around and speaking to the architects like she knew more than they did, was when I started to cringe. You could tell she was either coming down from a night of partying and full of anxiety and taking it out on the actual professionals in the room, or her years of being a prima donna we’re fully showing their true colours in a space where she should’ve been showing utmost respect and listening and collaborating like an adult.

When the previews came for the next episode showing how she talked down to her designer and then clips of her designer crying, is exactly when I cancelled recordings on the PVR. Basically, Pamela took a turn. She needs to take a backseat in a field she actually has never trained for, instead of boasting about her actual bad taste in my opinion.

What’s more is the designers Instagram in current time has no mention of designing Pamela Anderson’s house. WTF? She either had the worst time of her life and doesn’t want anyone to watch the show, or I don’t know. But I find that very strange. Anyways the front room entrance in the roadhouse looked awful, (too many clashing elements and principles lacking unity) and HGTV did the right thing by slotting this at 10 PM.

This exotic fruit can often be found on supermarket shelves. And if you have not tried pomelo yet, we recommend that you correct this omission. It contains a lot of vitamins, antioxidants, while the fruit has a low calorie content – only 38 kcal per 100 g. It can be included in the diet even during weight loss.

Pomelo is similar to orange and grapefruit and is the largest of all citrus fruits. We will tell you how this product is useful, whether it has contraindications. We will also share tips and interesting recipes.

History of the pomelo

The thick skin of the fruit is green or yellow, and the lobules are separated by bitter-tasting partitions. The fruit is of three types: red, white, and pink, – they differ in the color of the pulp. Pomelo is the largest citrus fruit, the weight of white (leading in size) can reach 10 kg.

Pomelo is native to Malaysia and China. The first mentions in Chinese manuscripts date back to 100 BC. e. And the fruit was brought to Europe only in the XIV century.

Pomelo in Asia is considered a symbol of well-being and prosperity, so in China, its fruits are given to each other on New Year’s Eve, and many traditional dishes are cooked with it. And in Thailand, the fruit is used as an offering to the gods.

Some consider pomelo to be a hybrid of grapefruit, but in fact it is not: a pomelo was crossed with an orange and got a grapefruit. Further experiments involving pomelo and white grapefruit yielded a new fruit, sweetie, which resembles a large green tangerine. It appeared in 1984 in Israel, where scientists tried to make the fruit sweeter than grapefruit.

Composition and calorie content of pomelo

Benefit

in its composition – many vitamins (A, B1, B2, B2, B2, B2, B2, B5), other nuclear power (calcium, potassium, iron, phosphorus, sodium), as well as fiber, organic acids and essential oils.

Fruit is often included in various diets. Alexander Voinov, dietetics and wellness consultant at the WeGym 9 fitness club network0054:

– Thanks to its ability to speed up metabolic processes, fat deposits are burned, and the weight loss process is more active. Also, fiber, which is contained in large quantities in pomelo, has a beneficial effect on digestion, accelerating the elimination of toxins and toxins and increasing the level of absorption of nutrients.

The high content of vitamin C in pomelo improves immunity, improves general well-being and mood, reduces the risk of blood clots and cancer.

Benefits of pomelo for men

Photo: pixabay.com

Pomelo contains a lot of antioxidant substances (1). They have a positive effect on spermatozoa, make them active, and this increases the likelihood of conception. An important moment for those who are planning to become a father.

Also, vitamins and microelements in pomelo have a positive effect on the cardiovascular system, normalize blood pressure and stimulate the heart. This is especially important for men, as they tend to suffer from heart disease more often than women (2).

Benefits of pomelo for women

Many women love this fruit for its rejuvenating properties. Antioxidants in its composition have a positive effect on the skin, hair, nails. Pomelo can be used not only for food: girls make masks based on this fruit to increase skin elasticity and even out complexion.

There is evidence of a beneficial effect of pomelo on the digestive tract due to the presence of a lipolytic enzyme that accelerates the breakdown of fats (3). Therefore, the fruit is useful to eat when losing weight.

Benefits of pomelo for children

The fruits of this plant contain a large amount of vitamins A, C and B, potassium, essential oils, limonoids (a group of substances found in citrus fruits). Due to this composition, pomelo perfectly strengthens the immune system (4). In addition, pomelo accelerates the breakdown of fats and proteins, improving digestion.

Harm of pomelo

People with certain diseases should be careful about eating pomelo.

– Due to the high content of acids, pomelo is not recommended for people with stomach ulcers, high acidity and other gastrointestinal diseases. For the same reason, pomelo is excluded from the diet of patients with hepatitis and nephritis. Like all citrus fruits, pomelo can cause allergies, so it is not recommended to get carried away with this fruit for pregnant and lactating women, so as not to provoke an undesirable reaction in a child, says Alexander Voynov.

The use of pomelo in medicine

Photo: Siegfried Grassegger, globallookpress.com

The increased concentration of vitamin C in pomelo (30-53 mg per 100 g of pulp) allows you to cover the body’s daily need for ascorbic acid – just a couple of slices are enough. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant by enhancing the activity of white blood cells. Thus, it improves immunity, helps fight infections. Also, ascorbic acid is necessary for the normal synthesis of collagen, which affects the elasticity of the skin, the health of teeth and gums.

Pomelo helps lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels, reduces blood pressure, reduces the risk of blood clots, which makes this fruit extremely useful for diabetics and people with cardiovascular diseases.

Fruit may be useful for constipation. The high fiber content improves digestion. Pectin, which is more abundant in pomelo than in all other citrus fruits, has an enveloping effect and protects the mucous membrane of the esophagus and stomach from the effects of acids. Pomelo contains a special enzyme, carnitine acyltransferase, which is absent in many other products. It accelerates the breakdown of fats and improves the absorption of nutrients, so this fruit is indispensable in nutrition, as one of the best “fat burners”. In addition, the fruit is low-calorie – in 100 g of fruit pulp there are only 25-39kcal.

Pomelo is also used in cosmetics. Masks from the pulp of the fruit and rubbing the face with its juice have a moisturizing and nourishing effect on the skin of the face, reduce the secretion of sebum.

And pomelo peel is rich in antioxidants – bioflavonoids, which are known for their antitumor effect.

Culinary uses of the pomelo

The fruit is often found in national dishes of Asian cuisine. The pulp of the fruit is used for food, usually fresh. Sometimes pomelo is baked with fish, meat, vegetables. Jam is prepared from its peel, it is dried and added to tea and compotes. But dried pulp is less useful than fresh pulp, as the concentration of vitamin C is reduced.

To peel a pomelo, make deep cuts in the peel along the fruit and cut off the top and bottom of the fruit. Next, you need to remove the peel and peel each slice of a bitter white film – it easily leaves.

How to choose and store a pomelo

This fruit ripens in winter, in December – February, so it is better to buy it at this time, then it is the most ripe.

The peel must be shiny and undamaged, uniform in color ranging from green to yellow. The ripe fruit is quite heavy.

Unpeeled fruit will keep up to a month at room temperature, up to two months in the refrigerator. The peeled fruit quickly deteriorates and dries out, so it should be stored under cling film for no more than three days.

Dried rinds for adding to tea are best kept in a sealed glass jar, where they will retain their properties for up to several months.

Frequently Asked Questions

We answer readers’ common questions about pomelo. We will tell you how to eat properly, how the peel is useful, who should not eat fruit.

How do you eat pomelo?

Pomelo can be eaten for dessert after the main meal, used as a healthy snack, and can also be added to meals. The fruit is used to make sauces, salads, it goes well with ice cream, jelly is made from the pulp of the fruit. Before you eat a pomelo, you need to clean it – separate the peel from the inside of the fruit, divide it into slices and remove the white partitions, because they are very bitter.

How can pomelo peel be used?

Pomelo is rich in flavonoids. These substances activate the work of enzymes, have an antioxidant effect and improve metabolic processes. Studies have shown that the fruit contains 4.42% flavonoids — more than oranges and lemons, but less than tangerines and grapefruits (5). These substances are just contained in the peel, so it should not be neglected: you can make face and hair masks, make jam or add it to tea in dried form. Medicines are produced from the pomelo peel abroad (5).

What are the contraindications for pomelo?

Although pomelo is not among the top ten allergens, an adverse reaction cannot be ruled out. Especially if you have an allergy to citrus fruits. It is not recommended to use pomelo in the presence of ulcers and diseases associated with high acidity in the stomach. The same goes for people with colitis and nephritis. Absolutely everyone is contraindicated to use pomelo on an empty stomach: acids can irritate the gastric mucosa.

This story, reminiscent of a Christmas tale about the all-conquering power of goodness, unfolds in a blast furnace. Three swindlers, who happened to be here, could not even imagine how this strange “living” house and its unusual inhabitant would affect their not very decent life. Having conceived a scam quite in the spirit of our time – to insure a strange, eccentric woman and set up an accident, three scammers are trying to get into the house and ingratiate themselves with the mistress. However, the plan doesn’t work. And the point is not that all attempts to implement the plan fail. Warmed by warmth and participation, they, not wanting it themselves, suddenly begin to change in the most wonderful way.

Love, kindness, human dignity and nobility, these seemingly very ephemeral values turn out to be much more weighty than quite visible and material values.

    This park should be free

    Feb. 2020 • For two

We got to this park on a rented scooter, about 35 minutes from Nassau. To walk in the park, go snorkeling and see the statues underwater, you have to pay $22 per person! It’s not worth it … it’s a long way to swim to the statues and not everyone can do it, when we were there, the waves rose, which made snorkeling even more difficult and in the end we were able to see only one statue (there are 3 in total) and the rest simply did not have enough strength. In this place, only huge shells impressed, they are everywhere, especially on Flipper Beach. And from Jaws beach you can get to this park for free. nine0003

    Great place for a walk!

    Feb. 2016 • For two

The nature of Nassau is something that remains in memory for a long time! We had a great walk in the park, there is where to hide in the heat, the water beckons. We are not prepared, but be sure to take swimming trunks and swimwear with you! There is something to see underwater! nine0003

An excellent place for walking, but the weather should not be too sunny and scorching, so as not to get tired quickly.

Beautiful nature and integral history in one experience

    dec. 2022

We had a wonderful day in Clifton. The snorkeling was fantastic and the beaches with beautiful fauna were outstanding. The history of the slave trade and the conditions of the enslaved peoples presented and preserved was an important experience for the whole family. Beautiful nature and history in one place – definitely worth a visit.

    Worth a visit!

    dec. 2022 • For two

We had a great time in Clifton. Edmond, our driver, was very welcoming and his service was excellent. Corey took us snorkeling and showed us the underwater sculptures which were very neat (we saw a barracuda in the water too!). We ended the tour with a walk in the park with Vernita who was also very friendly and informative. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. nine0003

    Snorkeling in oil

    dec. 2022 • Family vacation

Great snorkeling until we swam into an oil leak from a nearby tanker. According to local residents, this boat has been here for 3 years and continues to pump oil to another tanker or pipeline. The park manager was fair and gave us our money back. It took us a lot of effort to remove the oil from the body, hair and fabric. This park explains in their brochure everything they do to protect the ecosystem…

    Clifton National Park Snorkeling Tour

    2022 • For two

Today we did a snorkeling tour in Clifton National Park. We were picked up by Mr. Ford, who told us a very informative history of the islands. When we got to the park check-in was easy and we were dropped off at a snorkeling spot. Stefano was our snorkeling guide and he was very nice and told us about each of the statues we snorkeled around. We saw two statues, a plane wreckage and a coral reef garden. After we were treated to an amazing lunch at the tiki bar (chicken, pasta, plantain, rice). Very good lunch portions (I couldn’t finish everything!). After lunch we hung out at Flipper Beach, a short walk from the tiki bar, until Mr. Ford brought us back to the hotel. nine0172 I highly recommend visiting this park and snorkelling. This was definitely the highlight of our vacation in the Bahamas.
The only downside would be that we probably snorkeled for about 40 minutes. I wish it was a little longer.
    Overall, I highly recommend this!

    Amazon experience!

    dec. 2022 • For two

We had a wonderful experience here! We were transported by Leonardo, who knew the area well. He shared some fun places to visit and good places to eat, as well as some stories and fun facts. It was great to chat with him. Our first stop was snorkeling with Corey and Stefano. These guys were very knowledgeable about underwater statues, jaws and marine life. They made us feel safe! We enjoyed lunch at the tiki bar where we chatted with the bartender (I wish I could remember his name)! He was great company and made us some delicious cocktails. Finally, Vernita gave us a tour. She had a lot to say about plantations, slaves and local people. She was very nice and answered all our questions. All in all, it was an incredible experience and was affordable! I definitely recommend it. nine0003
