The Rights of Students who are Pregnant, Parenting, or Caregivers
How to Get Support for Pregnancy and Postpartum
Step 1: Obtain appropriate documentation of your pregnancy from your doctor/medical care professional (see below for details)
Step 2: Schedule an appointment with the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities/Title IX Coordinator by calling 651.846.1357 or emailing
[email protected]. Bring your documentation to the meeting and discuss what support you may need to be implemented during/after your pregnancy. Having course syllabi available can be helpful too for planning!
Step 3: After your meeting, communicate with your faculty about what you will miss in class, and what support you need. It’s encouraged that you keep your faculty in the loop as time goes on – and cc’ing the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities/Title IX Coordinator helps too!
Step 4: Contact your faculty if you are experiencing any problems with the supports. If you need further assistance beyond that, contact the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities/Title IX Coordinator.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is Title IX? Title IX is a federal law that makes sure schools do not discriminate based on gender. It provides support for students who have experienced gender-based violence and/or who are pregnant. -
If I’m pregnant or recently gave birth, what kind of support is available? Support can include: excused absences, flexible due dates or additional time on assignments, providing larger desks, allowance to sit or stand, etc. In some cases, courses can be switched to online versions of the same course if available. -
Are there limits to Title IX support? Yes. We cannot change core concepts or requirements of the class, not change the fundamental learning outcomes and assessments. You will still need to complete all of the work. We also cannot give you back lost instruction time. -
Do I need documentation to get support from the Title IX Office for pregnancy or recovery? Yes – a letter from your doctor is required for supports through the Title IX Office. -
How long do supports last after I’ve given birth? Supports technically last until the end of your documentation from your doctor. Typically doctors will write their notes like, “Please give ______ 4-6 weeks for recovery.” However, the school recognizes that recovery and adjustment goes beyond just physical recovery. Some supports can continue beyond that period, but only in agreement with the faculty, and they may be significantly more limited. -
When comes to pregnancy or parenting, what situations qualify for Title IX support besides childbirth? If the support is related to your child or pregnancy, and there’s a doctor’s note provided, that would qualify. Some examples may include: complications that require hospitalization or doctor visits, order of bedrest, serious baby illness or injury. -
Is there a private place on campus for me to care for my infant?
The lactation room (2166) is located on the 2nd floor in the East tower. It is designed to be used infant feeding, nursing, breastfeeding, chestfeeding, or pumping. It is a comfortable, private space with a sink, microwave, cozy chair, refrigerator, and electrical source. Participants can complete an agreement at saintpaul.edu/lactation to get badge access for the semester. -
Are there changing tables on campus? Changing tables are available in several first floor bathrooms. They are in both the men’s and women’s bathrooms across from Room 1512 near the West Entrance and in the all-gender restrooms located near the City View Café (cafeteria).
Caring for your Developing Child
Most parents and caregivers pay close attention to the development of the children in their lives. It can be joyful to watch them grow but sometimes it’s difficult to know what to expect and what resources to trust. Families come in all shapes and sizes with caregivers of all types. Regardless of what your family looks like, the resources below will help you understand your young person’s development, offer resources, and connect you with support.
-
Help Me Grow is Minnesota’s Early Intervention Program. This program provides resources for families to understand developmental milestones and learn if there are concerns. This helps families take the lead in seeking additional support or referring their child for a comprehensive, confidential screening or evaluation at no cost. -
Zero to Three – Early Connections Last a Lifetime offers resources for parents and caregiver of infants and toddlers to strengthen their caregiving skills, especially around difficult topics like disciple and setting limits, and reinforce their child’s learning. -
Head Start and Early Head Start provides child and family development program for eligible families living in Ramsey County. This can include home-visiting, caregiver support, and opportunities to meet other families caring for young children. These services are free to eligible families. -
Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a program of Saint Paul Public Schools that offers parents and caregivers hands-on learning experiences. When children are young, kids and adults learn together and as children grow some activities will be separate. All ECFE classes are taught by licensed early childhood teachers and parent educators. Classes are for families with children from newborn to kindergarten age and can be an opportunity to meet other families with young children. This program is available on sliding fee scale. Fees may be waived for families unable to pay. -
Healthy Children is a resource site from the American Academy of Pediatrics. This is a great place to learn about developmental milestones, medical issues affecting children of all ages, and search for medically accurate, up-to-date information. -
Child and Teen Checkups (C&TC) of Ramsey County are routine health checkups for youth (age 0-21) on Medical Assistance that take place at their regular medical and dental clinic. This program can help families find a medical and dental clinic, schedule appointments, arrange transportation or an interpreter, navigate health insurance, access benefits like gift cards and car seats, and understand what happens at a checkup and how to prepare children.

The care that my special needs daughter receives at the downtown Ebenezer facility has been beyond my wildest expectations.
“The care that my special needs daughter receives at the downtown Ebenezer facility has been beyond my wildest expectations. Shel has learned how to do so many things in a nurturing environment. She has grown into an amazing child- more prepared emotionally & mentally & socially for kindergarten than I thought possible. I know that ALL of the staff love my child while I’m away and care about her best interest at all times. The small accommodations they have allowed for her have allowed me to work with no concern for her safety and care. It was the best choice I made for her care provider!”
-Kelly a parent at Ebenezer’s Downtown Child Care Center
The center is a beautiful place, inside and out, and I never have to worry about my child, which is priceless.
“My two daughters have attended Ebenezer’s downtown center for a combined total of about 7 years (one’s in school now). I’m not sure how to begin to convey how satisfied we have been with the caring, joyful, and conscientious care they’ve both received during that time. My two-year-old daughter literally RUNS to her classroom every morning, she’s so excited to see her teachers and friends. Now that she can talk, she doesn’t hesitate to tell me when her teacher does something differently than the way I do it – and her teacher’s way is always the “right” way. That says quite a bit about the respect and admiration that she feels for her teacher. My oldest daughter never misses an opportunity to go back to the center and give hugs to her former teachers, and tell them all about her adventures in kindergarten. As a parent, I love the flexibility I’ve received as our situation changed over the years, and the fact that I’d consider every teacher there a positive role model for my children. Ebenezer also seems to assign teachers to optimal child age groups based on teachers’ skill sets, personalities, and strengths – something I didn’t experience or even appreciate when my older son attended different centers. The center is a beautiful place, inside and out, and I never have to worry about my child, which is priceless. As a working mom, I know how difficult it can be to choose a childcare provider, and I have never had any doubt that I made the best choice in Ebenezer Downtown.”
-Megan a parent at Ebenezer’s Downtown Child Care Center
Ebenezer was a supportive and warm environment for my children, as well as a reliable place kick-start their educational journey!
“Being a working mom is tough. I had to find somewhere that could care for my children on a day-to-day basis and nurture them as they grew from infancy to school age – and I found it at Ebenezer! I love how they take advantage of their downtown location and expose the kids to what the city has to offer, like field trips to the public library for storytime or the farmer’s markets to identify colors, fruits and vegetables. I also appreciate the play-based learning philosophies which the staff incorporates into the children’s daily routines. After three years at Ebenezer, my daughter started kindergarten with a solid knowledge base and is ahead of her peers in many areas. Ebenezer was a supportive and warm environment for my children, as well as a reliable place kick-start their educational journey!”
— Rebecca, a parent at Ebenezer’s Downtown Child Care Center
Ebenezer has always made us feel welcome!
“My 4-year-old daughter, Ma’Riyah, has been attending Ebenezer since she was about 9-months-old and she loves it! She has learned so much over the last few years. Ma’Riyah absolutely loves her teacher of almost 2 years, Mrs. Adrianna. Ebenezer has always made us feel welcome! I couldn’t imagine my daughter attending anywhere else!”
— Mercedes, a parent at Ebenezer’s Downtown Child Care Center
I absolutely love the Ebenezer Downtown Center.
“I absolutely love the Ebenezer Downtown Center. The center is conveniently located and the staff are very polite. My 1 year old daughter has wonderful teachers and enjoys her time there.”

“Ebenezer is conveniently located downtown near my job. It is filled with wonderful, caring people that love what they do. Both me and my son love Ebenezer and we couldn’t think of going anywhere else!”
— Rachel, a parent from Ebenezer’s Downtown Child Care Center
I highly recommend Ebenezer to anyone looking for child care in the Milwaukee area.
“I am a foster mom who has had kids in Ebenezer in the past and will continue to do so in the future. They were so helpful in the enrollment process and throughout the time the kids were there. They have a family-centered approach to child care, and were always encouraging and supportive of my kids. The kids loved their teachers! I highly recommend Ebenezer to anyone looking for child care in the Milwaukee area.”
— Kate, A parent from Ebenezer’s Downtown Child Care Center
Walking into Ebenezer Child Care Center’s Downtown Milwaukee Center I am always welcomed with a smile.

In the nursery group , the child is taught to eat, dress independently, develop speech and spatial thinking skills. Children learn to distinguish colors, name objects and animals, express their desires and emotions.
In groups for babies up to a year old, they mainly take care of children, play, spend time outdoors. For children older than a year, music, sports and developmental classes are held.
Not every kindergarten has nursery groups: most of them are private.
In the preparatory group children from three years old are taught to read, write, count and draw. Children play sports games, engage in creativity, go on excursions. The preparatory group forms the communication skills of the child and fully prepares him for school.
There are public and private kindergartens. Education in public and private kindergartens is not fundamentally different: the pre-school education system in Portugal has uniform professional standards.
Kindergarten education is five compulsory hours for the social, cognitive, psychomotor and moral development of children. In any kindergarten, safety, quality of education and qualifications of educators are carefully approached.
Public pre-school institutions are free. They are under the care of the social service. They have a limited number of places, so priority is given to families in an unfavorable social position. For example, low-income families, children of young parents, or children with physical disabilities. 9hours and take after 15 hours
What kindergartens in Portugal have in common
When choosing a kindergarten, many factors matter: proximity to home, price, positive recommendations. There are other important rules that preschools in Portugal adhere to.
Staff. All kindergarten teachers received higher pedagogical education. They know how to act during tantrums or disobedience of children. They know how to involve in games, put them to bed and feed the kids. There are enough staff in the kindergartens to pay attention to each kid.
Teachers take into account the individuality and mood of the child. They know how to find an approach to those who need more attention or care.
The space is critical because the child spends up to eight hours a day there. Rooms in kindergartens are bright and spacious, with zoning for places for recreation and games. In a conspicuous place, drawings or works created by children.
Rules. Portuguese kindergartens have a convenient schedule: children have enough free time and games with their peers.
Nutrition. In kindergartens, food is cooked in their own kitchen. The chef takes into account the nutritional needs of each child. For example, if a child is allergic to milk, he will be cooked separately.
Children learn table manners: use cutlery, chew slowly, take breaks, be polite. Here, children are not forced to finish their meals or eat faster.
Security. Kindergarten staff and parents must follow the basic rules. These include the security of the premises, playgrounds and food, how employees act in emergencies. Parents are also introduced to them when choosing a kindergarten.
rituals include study visits, parties, city tours that bring children together. Parents are invited to parties and concerts.
Sleep. Daytime sleep is not organized in every kindergarten. At the same time, children under the age of six need rest, even if they just lie in bed.

Photo by Nikolai Antonovsky “It seems that since December 2011, when Anna Ivanovna came to power, we, the leaders of autonomous kindergartens, have been told “face!”. In relation to my kindergarten, endless checks began, lengthy and detailed, as a result of which only minor violations were revealed. Last summer was hot because of the flood of anonymous letters addressed to me. I no longer have the strength to resist this lawlessness, violation of the regulations of all checks! Almost daily, the kindergarten receives inquiries by e-mail, the answers to which must be provided in writing, with a signature and a seal. As a result, the administration of kindergartens (and this situation will be found in every institution if you open the inbox) does not have time to communicate with children and parents. The work turns into a nervous paperwork that simply has no end. In the letter, I outlined several points that I simply could not allow in relation to my children (importation of rotten fruit into the kitchen) and for which now I have to pay and endure persecution from Anna Ivanovna. This year I was forced to go to court, now there are 4 cases in which I am trying to challenge the absurd orders received as a result of internal audits. As proof, here is a certified list of 26 requests, appeals and complaints received by me in the last month alone. Dear Igor Vladimirovich! I, Kuznetsova Alla Nikolaevna, Director of the Municipal Autonomous Preschool Educational Institution “Child Development Center – Kindergarten No. 114” appeal to you with a request to stop the unprecedented persecution of me as a leader. I have been working in preschool education for 36 years, and as a head of a kindergarten for 27 years (25 of them in kindergarten No. 114). In June of this year, as usual, when employees go on vacation, and there are fewer children, I first disbanded the preparatory, and then, 19June, junior group. As part of the preparation for the school year, all of us in the team are engaged in landscaping and painting small forms, as well as, to the best of our ability, cosmetic repairs inside the building, since no one allocates funds to us for these purposes (we understand: it used to be very difficult for the budget , and now all funds are directed to the construction of new kindergartens). However, not everyone in the team, especially young people, wants to do good, although each step beyond official duties is additionally paid. The educator of group No. 24 Kozhevina D.G., dissatisfied with the fact that her group of 14 people was disbanded, and she was sent to paint buildings on her site, turned to the parents of her group, among whom was the niece of the head of Syktyvkar Shokshueva A.S. On June 20, they wrote a complaint. Acting Head of the Department of Preschool Education AMO GO “Syktyvkar” Misharin G.I. instead of explaining to my parents (and they called her on June 19 and asked if I had the right to disband the group), that the leader has the right to disband and unite groups in the job description, and also spelled out in the contract with parents, clause 5. 1.7 , came up with its own rules for informing parents about how the head of the kindergarten should unite groups. From that moment, the organized activities of the specialists of the Department of Preschool Education Misharina G.I., Sbornova N.V. began; educator of the disbanded group Kozhevina D.G., her husband, a group of parents (12 people), complaints were sent to the Department of Preschool Education, to Rospotrebnadzor, to the labor inspectorate, to the administration of the Syktyvkar municipality, to the deputy head Kozlov V.V. and Ruchka A.I., to the prosecutor’s office of Syktyvkar. On June 20, a specialist of the Department of Preschool Education Sbornova H.V., not having an official investigation order in her hands (I received an internal investigation order only on June 25, 2013), being herself a parent of a child attending our kindergarten (that is, being interested person), came to the institution and requested documents on the disbanded groups No. 28 and No. 24, then requests were sent, explanatory … group No. 28 and 4 more complaints to the deputies of the head of the AMO GO “Syktyvkar” A.I. Ruchka and V.V. Kozlov: – repeated from parents; – from the teacher Kozhevina D.G. to protect honor and dignity; – from the husband of the teacher Kozhevina D.G.; – from the “team” (several people). Not even wanting to listen to me, it was ordered to provide written explanations by Monday. Here I am attaching an extract from the medical record dated 07/05/2013 (Appendix 2) – in what physical and psychological state I got to the doctor, after which I was forced to go on sick leave for 2 weeks. But then the baton with complaints was continued by the specialist of the Department of Preschool Education Sbornova H.V. and Fridman N.V. (wife of the Minister of Economic Development Fridman A.V.). Fridman A.B. since last year, he constantly complained to the deputy of AMO GO “Syktyvkar” Kozlov B. V. that it is cold in the group where his child went. We changed batteries and windows in this group, but his wife was still dissatisfied with everything. And in the summer it became hot – this is another complaint. Then there was a complaint that the teachers in their group were changing. I have never hidden from anyone that there is a problem with personnel in our garden, and not only in ours. Personnel problems are present in all areas, even in banks, and what can we say about kindergarten. People come and, for various reasons, leave (moves, decrees, someone can’t cope and parents demand to remove the educator, etc.). For the period from 06/20/2013 to 07/17/2013, 11 complaints were written against me. But this is the tip of the iceberg. The true reasons for everything that is happening is that I, Kuznetsova Alla Nikolaevna, turns out to be “fought with Anna Ivanovna Ruchka.” A.I. The pen cannot forgive us, some leaders of the city’s kindergartens, for the fact that we separated from the school administration. Yes, we turned to Katunin C.M., because it was hard to work. So, for example, food products that were brought to the gardens on a centralized basis were of very poor quality (although their price was quite decent). After refusing to accept rotten fruit on my part, I was told that “I could cook compote, there’s nothing to ask for trouble.” Naturally, my answer about feeding rotten food to your children, if you like, did not suit the organizers of the centralized food supply. With the advent of A.I. Pens for the position of deputy head of AMO GO “Syktyvkar” we have been feeling the excess of authority of the Office of Preschool Education for the third year; I, personally, to all my questions regarding the functioning of the kindergarten, I hear: “We are the founders, what we say is what you will do.” “We won’t give you money.” “When we want, then we will come to the institution, and we will study your documents (MADOU “TsRR – D / s No. 114”) with prejudice!”. Kindergartens are requested daily for information and reporting that is not regulated by any regulatory documents. Today, when there are so many new laws, in the context of reforming the education system, the Department of Preschool Education has not organized a single training seminar to help kindergartens. We ourselves have to pay for everything, to learn. Instead of helping institutions, the Department of Preschool Education organizes real persecution (and the same leaders) for asking “indigestible” questions, trying to defend the rights of autonomous institutions. Now A.I. Pen plans to “outsource” kindergartens (accounting, all service personnel, and later kitchen workers). Medical personnel have already been brought into the healthcare system. And what do we have? 5 groups of early childhood and 8 preschool groups were left with one visiting nurse working for 1 position (and we transferred 2.5 staff positions of a nurse and 1 staff position of a doctor) with the only functional responsibility: vaccination. Not a single pill, piece of cotton wool or other medication was given to the kindergarten for the whole year. In the summer, they didn’t know how to treat children’s wounds (we ourselves don’t have the right to purchase – they can be considered as misuse of funds). I, as a person and leader, do not even have a question, but a cry: “What is going on? Why destroy what has been accumulated over the years? For what? We put our whole soul into our institutions, worked for the city, for the Komi Republic, for Russia! Why should everything that works well be destroyed? Why have I been hearing threats of dismissal for two years? This time I had to go to court against the officials of the Department of Preschool Education. But I already have the head of the Department of Preschool Education Gorbunova T.E. stated that I won’t win anything in court, that it’s useless to sue them (with the founders represented by the Department of Preschool Education)! But in the future, the “conversation” with me will be different.” Continued in Alla Kuznetsova’s blog . Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street, or simply Bogdashka Street, is very long and extremely diverse, because it was built up in different eras. Our walk will pass through the most beautiful, atmospheric and bright part of it, which, by the way, is under state protection in the status of a “place of interest”. We start from the sculpture “Mother and Child” on the Boulevard of Maternal Glory. This square was founded in 1996 in memory of those killed in Chechnya, Afghanistan and other local wars. The hole in the chest of the mother’s figure seems to be filled with the child she holds in her arms. Losing him, the mother can no longer fill this void … Crossing the road and heading to the “Garden of Eden”, stopping briefly at the house on the street. Bogdan Khmelnitsky, 11/1. At the entrance to the local housing office, we are met by a monument to the janitor. This not very revered, but extremely necessary and important profession is rarely awarded a monument, but Novosibirsk is an exception. The unusual sculpture was created in the 1980s by local artist Gennady Arbatsky. His creations, easily recognizable by style, will meet us on Bogdashka more than once. The Garden of Eden is a landmark of modern times. The sculptures in it illustrate the biblical story of the creation of the world. The sun and moon personify “the luminaries in the firmament of heaven”, the lions – “the beasts of the earth.” There are also “big fish”, and “feathered birds”, and “reptiles”, and “greenery, grass and trees” are living plantings of the square. A special meaning lies in the sculpture of a large apple on the edge of the garden. It simultaneously symbolizes the Earth with the seas and continents, created by God, and the forbidden fruit, referring to the first people – Adam and Eve. The corresponding passage from the “First Book of Moses” is stamped in an open metal book. We pass by the “candle” at 17 Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street, where we see the graffiti Follow to your heart – a copy of the work of the famous British street artist Banksy. Sculptures of three musicians meet us at the road – the only reminder of the Otdykh club. The large dance club has been a favorite vacation spot for several generations of Novosibirsk residents, but not so long ago, despite the protests of local residents, it was demolished for residential development. Here we can cross the road to see a large sculpture “Stagecoach” in the courtyard of the house at Bogdan Khmelnitsky, 22. It was installed in 1989 in honor of the twinning agreement between Novosibirsk and the American cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Or we can go straight ahead. Here we will meet another cult building for the city – the ice sports palace “Siberia”, a long-term home arena of the hockey team of the same name. The great Valery Kharlamov made his debut in this arena as part of CSKA, the Stanley Cup winner Vladimir Tarasenko began his career in professional sports here, she remembers the skates and sticks of many other sports legends. At the same time, LDS also serves as a concert venue where Kino and Scorpions, Deep Purple and Gary Moore, 30 Seconds To Mars and The Prodigy performed. You can take a photo with a bronze hockey player sitting on a bench, or you can take a photo with the City decorative structure. The author of the latter, as well as “Three Musicians” and “Stagecoach”, is the same Gennady Arbatsky. We pass by the Neptune pool with the only 50-meter lanes in the city and the Cosmos hockey and sports center, which once housed the cinema of the same name. This completes the construction of Bogdashka of the 1960s, and we plunge into the quarters of post-war stalins, for which this street is so loved. To feel the indescribable atmosphere of the street in full, we turn into the yards. Another peculiarity of this Novosibirsk street, which makes it a bit similar to St. Petersburg, is the iron sculptures on the theater pedestals and poles. Funny little men and animals can be found throughout Bogdashka. Among the picturesque houses and cozy green courtyards, we notice an unusual building. The entrance to one of the entrances of the residential building on 2nd Krasnodonsky Lane 7/1 is designed nothing more than a castle. In the 1990s, a resident of this house, an artist by training, turned an abandoned bomb shelter into the Cardinal restaurant. The establishment worked in the basement of the house for many years, but now only this kitsch stucco reminds of it. Conceptual courtyards are another feature of Bogdashka. One of these called “Nest” was once at the house number 15, but nothing remained of it during the arrangement of the “Garden of Eden”. With this in mind, the local 2010s reproduced those creations of Gennady Arbatsky from old photos in another courtyard – at 35 Bogdan Khmelnitsky Street. A sculpture of a giant painted egg and a wooden turret for children were revived from oblivion. Above the arched entrance to the courtyard of the house on 2nd Krasnodonsky Lane, 10 – large letters “Gulliver”. A giant slide chair, no less impressive scissors and other similar sculptures make the guest of the courtyard feel like a midget. And in combination with the exquisite post-war architecture of the house itself, a truly magical atmosphere is created. .. “Kill time! How could he like that! If you didn’t quarrel with him, you could ask him for anything you want, ”this quote from Alice in Wonderland involuntarily comes to mind here. This yard is called “Alice”. The heroes of Carroll look at us from high poles here, and figures sprinkled by the clock on the wall of the house. Is it necessary to say that both of these miracles were created by Arbatsky? And with sheer enthusiasm. Meanwhile, we are approaching the main attraction of the street – the Palace of Culture. Gorky 1957 years of construction. It is not so much the Palace of Culture itself that is interesting, but the whole neoclassical ensemble with two neighboring residential buildings – certainly the best in the city. Once the roof of the Palace of Culture them. Gorky was decorated with sculptures-allegories of the constitutional rights of citizens of the USSR: “The right to rest”, “The right to work” and “The right to education”. It is extremely symbolic that these “rights” crumbled and disappeared from the building in the 1990s. KVN-Sibir games have been held here for many years. In this regional league, the famous KVN teams “Children of Lieutenant Schmidt”, “Maximum”, “STEPiKo” and many others began their journey. [38] [39] Climateseas. It is the only metropolitan area of the contiguous 48 states that falls under this category. In particular, it generally has a tropical monsoonal climate (Köppen climate classification Am ). [40] In the South Florida metropolitan area, most of the rain falls in the summer (wet season) and the winter (dry season) is fairly dry. The rainy season, which is hot and humid, lasts from May to October, when daily thunderstorms and passing mild tropical lows bring late afternoon showers. The dry season often starts at the end of October and lasts until the end of April. During the height of the dry season from February to April, South Florida is often very dry and there are often issues with wildfires and water restrictions. On occasion, cold fronts can reach South Florida and provide little precipitation during the dry season. The hurricane season largely coincides with the rainy season. [41] In addition to its elevation, coastal location, and proximity to the Tropic of Cancer and the Caribbean, the area owes its warm, humid climate to the Gulf Stream, which moderates the climate year-round. On a typical summer day, temperatures are at least 24 °C. Temperatures in the high 80s to low 90s (30–35 °C) combined with high humidity often drop by noon. thunderstorms or a sea breeze that develops near the Atlantic Ocean, which then allows lower temperatures, although conditions are still very humid. Dry air often prevails in winter as the dew point is often very low. Average daily high temperatures in South Florida during the winter are around 75–77 °F (24–25 °C). Although daily highs can sometimes reach 82–85 °F (28–29 °C) even in January and February. Low daytime temperatures in winter are typically around 13-17 °C (55-63 °F). Every winter, cold fronts occasionally descend to the north. Bahamas and South Florida. As a result, daily high temperatures in South Florida can reach around 18 °C (65 °F). When this happens, low temperatures can drop as low as 40 degrees in the early morning hours before warming up rapidly towards the late morning/early afternoon. However, temperatures rarely drop below 40 °F (4 °C). South Florida experiences these colds about twice a winter, and they usually only last a day or two before temperatures return to the mid-70s. On average, South Florida is free of frost, although the interior can experience light frost a few times a decade. Hurricane season officially runs from June 1 to November 30, although hurricanes may develop at other times. The most likely time for South Florida is Cape Verde’s peak season, from mid-August to the end of September. [42] Because of its location between two large bodies of water known for tropical activity, South Florida is also the statistically most likely major area in the world to be hit by a hurricane, followed by Nassau, Bahamas, and Havana, Cuba. Many hurricanes have affected the metropolitan area, including Betsy at 1965, Andrew in 1992, Irene in 1999, Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma in 2005 and Irma in 2017. In addition, a tropical depression passed over the city in October 2000, causing record rainfall and flooding. Locally, the storm is credited with the Nameless Storm of 2000, although the depression intensified into Tropical Storm Leslie upon entry into the Atlantic Ocean.
