A Collaborative Approach
We provide a sustained environment of support and encouragement through the collaboration of our Allomothers, director, parents and child psychologist (owner). Our whole-family approach benefits both children and parents by providing ongoing support, clinical guidance, and consistency to the process.
Inside & Out
Inside the center, our diverse Allomothers follow a relational and individually-based curriculum that encourages self-discovery and provides a platform for social, emotional, cognitive and behavioral development.
Outside the center, our licensed child psychologist works closely with parents in order to streamline the developmental process. He is active with the children and parents and makes the specialized field of child psychology a routine part of childcare.
And finally, a word about our elephant…
Elephants are socially and emotionally complex animals and their tradition of raising their young is positively inspiring!
Baby elephants are taken care of by a network of older elephants referred to as Allomothers. Allomothers offer nurturance, guidance and stability to babies–while also serving as support systems for their parent(s). The Allomother concept parallels our own beliefs in strong family systems and the importance of community. The Allomother is an embodiment of healthy individual development through community support. We hope that when you see our logo you will know that our elephant symbolizes the expression of the guidance and support you can expect at Bright Beginnings.

Kindergarten for cats: with whom to leave the cat
While a person is at work, his cat can walk with his feline friends, relax in the pet house and enjoy scratching behind the ear. This is not just a dream of cat owners. Kindergartens for cats really exist, and today in large cities you can find a good cat center with all the amenities and qualified medical care.
Why take your pet to a cat daycare
Although the average length of time you can safely leave your cat home alone depends on her age, behavior, and health, in general, you should never leave your cat alone for more than twelve hours. . If family members are absent for more than this period, she may feel lonely and even anxious.
If the owner is working overtime, cat overexposure may be a good option for his pet.
Similar to child and dog daycares, many cat daycares operate flexible hours, allowing you to choose hours to suit the owner’s schedule. You can bring a cat to kindergarten on the way to work, pick it up on the way home, and then have a nice dinner together.
Cat shelters also offer a variety of entertainment and enrichment opportunities. This is suitable for cats that are prone to destructive behavior when left alone at home. Although the animals are not always eager to socialize with their fellows, they love to spend time with people and will find a lot of fun in the cat daycare.
Cat housekeeping also offers short-term care options for times when the presence of a cat in the house can create unnecessary stress for her – for example, on the day of moving or the arrival of a child in the house.
How to choose a kindergarten or a hotel for a cat
Choosing a kindergarten that best suits your furry friend, there is no need to rush. The first thing to do is to ask your veterinarian for advice – he will most likely be able to recommend establishments that suit the animal’s temperament and health needs. You can ask for recommendations from friends and relatives.
The nutritional and medical needs of the cat must also be taken into account. Does the institution provide medical services? What is the accepted procedure for dealing with emergencies? Will staff be able to follow the cat’s medication schedule? If the pet is on a specialized therapeutic diet, you need to make sure that you can bring your own food.
Before you take your cat to kindergarten for the first time, you need to plan a tour to assess if it is suitable for your pet. A personal visit will allow you to truly feel the atmosphere of this place and see how the staff interact with the animals. The cleanliness of the room should be checked, especially in the areas of feeding, sleeping and play, and around the trays.
First Day of Kindergarten
To help make your cat feel as comfortable at a daycare or cat hotel as at home, Animal House of Chicago recommends bringing along a couple of your pet’s favorite toys.

Method and data source
The leisure and hospitality industry is still recovering from pandemic-related job losses. Employment in the industry is 7.9% below the level it stood at before the pandemic in February 2020. That means employment in leisure and hospitality is 1.3 million below where it was in February 2020 as of May 2022.
Hotels employ a wide variety of workers, and salaries range from well below the US median wage to very high paying.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics program offers data on employment and wages across different occupations and industries, including the traveler accommodation industry.
Hotel jobs tend to be lower paying than average. The median annual wage for an employee in the traveler accommodation industry was just $29,600, below the overall median wage of $45,760, in 2021 (the most recent data). Housekeepers, for example, earned just $27,830 per year in 2021 in the traveler accommodation industry.
The above slides are employment and wages for 38 select occupations in the hotel industry, ranked from lowest to highest median wage. Both the number of people in that job and median annual pay are May 2021 figures from the Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics program.

Know
Children’s emotional well-being during their early years has a powerful impact on their social relationships. Children who are emotionally healthy are better able to establish and maintain positive relationships with adults and peers (Trawick-Smith, 2014). Social-emotional development is essential to a young child’s sense of well-being. The relationships they form early on help shape who they are, who they become, and their understanding of the world. Think about some of the children in your own life and the different social-emotional skills they display.
Preschool-age children are learning to talk about their feelings and the feelings of others. Social-emotional development, however, involves more than just expressing emotions. It involves taking turns, becoming independent in following routines, interacting more with peers, engaging in meaningful relationships with others, controlling emotions, and developing a positive self-image. These skills are crucial for children’s successful participation in school and home experiences and for their overall growth.
Social-Emotional Milestones
Social and emotional development include behaviors that represent children’s emotional growth and their ability to successfully navigate their world through interactions with adults and peers. Since these skills develop together, this area of development is referred to as social-emotional development. Social-emotional milestones focus on children’s developing abilities to regulate their attention, emotions, and behavior, and to form positive relationships with adults and peers.
The chart below highlights social emotional development during the preschool years. Remember that individual differences exist when it comes to the exact age at which children may meet these milestones. As highlighted in the Cognitive, Physical, and Communication courses, milestones are not checklists with which to judge children’s development. Rather, they provide a guide for when to expect certain skills or behaviors to emerge in young children, so you are prepared to meet their changing needs. Think of these milestones as guidelines to help you understand and identify typical patterns of growth and development in preschoolers. Although the skills mentioned in the chart will develop in a predictable sequence over the preschool years, each child is unique in when they will master each skill. Your goal is to help all children grow and learn to their potential.

Remember that expectations about developmental milestones are driven by cultural values and preferences. For example, in some cultures, children are not expected to feed themselves independently until they are 3 or 4 years old. In other cultures, children are expected to start eating independently in early infancy and toddlerhood. Theorist Lev Vygotsky said that adults share their cultural values and beliefs with children through daily interactions. Ideas, beliefs, and expectations about child development are just some of the ways cultures are unique. Becoming aware of and respecting these differences can help you better understand how families’ experiences help shape the preschoolers in your classroom.
If you are concerned about a child’s development, talk with your trainer, coach, or administrator first. Share your observations of the child’s behavior and the reasons you are concerned. Your trainer, coach, or administrator may choose to observe the child and set up a meeting with the child’s family. In some situations, families might be encouraged to contact their local school district, which can arrange a free evaluation of the child’s development and can help the child get any needed help and services.
Preschoolers and Social-Emotional Development
It is important to notice that milestones are associated with different aspects of social-emotional development. Some are associated with children’s ability to engage in relationships with others and others are related to children’s abilities to regulate their emotions. Let’s take a closer look at these and how they relate to preschool development.
Relationships with others: Preschool-age children engage in pretend play with friends and use words and sentences to express their feelings and thoughts. Even though they may still need adult support to share toys and materials with friends, they improve on their own as time passes. Preschoolers also progress in their ability to understand and appropriately respond to their friends’ feelings. Children with healthy social-emotional development have a balance of all these components.
Self-awareness: Preschool-age children improve their ability to control their bodies during different activities throughout the day (e.g., sitting at circle time or playing in the gym). They learn to take turns and have conversations with peers, acknowledge and use their own names and the names of others, and self-evaluate and know when they made appropriate or inappropriate choices.
Emotional regulation: Preschool-age children display a variety of emotions in different ways. For example, they may use words to share their feelings such as “I am upset”, they may match facial expressions to happy, mad or sad, or they may laugh when excited. At the same time, they also improve their ability to manage their emotions to match the situation and environment and to control their emotions (e. g., separate easily from family members). Although preschoolers are better than toddlers at regulating emotions, they still need a great deal of help and practice with developing these appropriate behaviors.
Independence: Preschoolers with a healthy sense of independence will follow predictable daily routines and activities at school and at home. They may start identifying a favorite friend and ask that friend to play or independently play with toys and materials at home, school, or an outdoor playground. Additionally, preschoolers developing a sense of independence may complete many self-care tasks, such as getting dressed, going to the bathroom, eating snacks, feeding themselves, or getting ready for bed. Independent preschoolers will also tell caregivers about their day and learn and use new vocabulary.
Emotional Literacy
Emotional literacy is a child’s ability to label and talk about their own emotions or feelings, as well as the feelings and emotions of others. This is an essential component of social-emotional development because it helps children understand their own emotional experiences and, at the same time, helps them to acknowledge and understand the emotional experiences of others. Emotional literacy helps children solve problems and regulate their own emotions; these skills are essential for success in preschool and beyond. Children who label, talk about, and are aware of their emotions are more likely to focus on and engage in classroom routines and activities and less likely to become easily frustrated, have excessive tantrums, or act impulsively.
Many children learn to identify and discuss emotions through interactions or conversations with responsive adults in the context of positive relationships and supportive environments. In your work at a preschool program, you should embed opportunities for social skill development throughout the day. For example, you can share your emotions about events or experiences and encourage children to share their own emotions. You can also read books that discuss emotions or social interactions. In the Apply section of this lesson, you will find additional examples of resources and activities you can use to foster children’s emotional literacy.
Supporting the Social-Emotional Development of Children in Preschool
Children learn social-emotional skills in the context of their relationships by watching, imitating, and responding to the social behaviors of others. Children also learn from the way others respond to their emotions. Social-emotional skills are closely connected to a child’s family, cultural background, and early experiences. Children learn by interacting and forming relationships with members of their families, schools, and communities.
As highlighted in Lesson One (Social-Emotional Development: An Introduction), social-emotional learning begins in infancy and adults are the most influential models for young children. Caregivers who understand their infants’ emotional cues and respond immediately and sympathetically have infants who are less fussy and easier to soothe. The same happens with preschoolers; if caregivers validate children’s feelings, address their needs, and are responsive and supportive, preschoolers are better able to communicate their needs and emotions and are more likely to demonstrate healthy social-emotional development.
Healthy social-emotional development is highly associated with responsive caregiving. Responsive caregivers:
provide support and positive feedback
offer stimulating materials
play and engage with children
share events and experiences
follow children’s lead
identify children’s interests and facilitate their learning
plan meaningful opportunities throughout the day to help children practice and learn social skills.
As you read this section, think about the role you play in fostering healthy social-emotional development for the children in your care. In Lessons Three and Four, you will learn additional strategies to support the social-emotional development of all preschoolers.

Do
Preschool-age children in your care need daily opportunities to participate in activities that help them learn new social-emotional skills or practice existing skills in fun, stimulating, and supportive environments. You should purposefully use strategies throughout your day to support young children’s social-emotional development. Understanding developmental milestones is an important aspect of working with young children. Learning and understanding how preschoolers develop social-emotional skills and competence will help you foster their social-emotional learning and determine what kinds of experiences to plan in your classroom and program. You will find additional resources to foster children’s social-emotional competence in the Apply section. Consider the following in your daily work with preschoolers:
Be responsive to children’s attempts at interaction and build on what children say.
Engage in frequent, developmentally appropriate social interactions with children and adults in your classroom throughout your daily experiences and routines.
Follow each child’s lead, cues, and preferences.
Include emotion words in conversations with children.
Make books available that discuss feelings and social interactions.
Ask children meaningful questions about their actions, interests, events, and feelings.
Encourage children to use their words and talk to their peers when conflicts arise. Use developmentally appropriate language and provide conversation models and cues for children to follow if they need help solving a problem.
Ensure you are sensitive to children’s unique needs, experiences, and backgrounds.
Reach out to children’s families and be responsive to their beliefs and preferences

Social Development in 3-5 Year Olds
The preschool years are a magic time in development. Children move from being almost entirely dependent on their parents, to being somewhat independent beings in the world. In virtually every aspect of development, their knowledge base and competencies are exploding, not the least of which are their social and emotional skills.
The preschool years (ages 3 to about age 6) begin with the tail end of Erik Erikson’s second stage of psychosocial development: Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt. In this stage, children are learning to be self-sufficient in ways such as self-regulation, toileting, feeding, and dressing. Around the age of four, they enter the third stage of psychosocial development: Initiative vs. Guilt. Over the course of this period, children learn to imagine, to become more independent, to broaden their skills through play, fantasy, and exploration, and to engage, participate, and cooperate with others, including peers. According to Erikson, if these goals are not accomplished, the child will become fearful, socially excluded, limited in his ability to play, and negatively dependent on adults.

While seeming lofty, these goals are achieved by most children through natural interactions with family and other caretakers. While preschoolers are also learning how to relate to peers and interact with them, most of the social and emotional growth occurs in the relationship with caregivers. One of the challenges of this period is to learn to navigate maintaining the secure attachments accomplished during infancy and toddlerhood, while simultaneously differentiating oneself as an individual.
Individuation for children over the preschool years means developing a better understanding of who they are, as well as beginning to understand and relate to others. Creating this personal identity means exploring many fundamental aspects of themselves—gender, race, personality. At age 3, children still believe they can grow up and transform genders. By 6, they understand that gender is more or less a fixed aspect of their identity. Thus, over the preschool years, children begin to have a sense of the stable characteristics that make them the unique person that they are.
In the course of this development, preschoolers also learn more sophisticated ways to relate to others. For example, empathy develops, beginning at around age 2 but becoming more visible between ages 3 and 5. When a child experiences empathy, he realizes that he can positively affect another by taking action or offering help (e.g., getting a band aid for a crying peer). While empathy can be fostered, it seems to be an inherent part of development across cultures. On the flip side of empathy is the negative ways preschoolers learn to impact others. While toddlers may flail about in anger, preschoolers can use aggression to willfully inflict harm. A fun way to help manage your child’s aggression is The Grouches, an app put out by the American Psychological Association.
One challenge to parents of preschoolers is to support their developmental drives, while also fostering development. For example, parents can help curb preschool aggression by teaching children about emotions, helping them learn the names for the feelings, and giving them an outlet for their expression. One wonderful way to help children this age experience and express emotions is through play. Play is children’s work and dramatic play has the added benefit of allowing children to experiment with and understand social roles. It also provides opportunities for children to develop social skills, express and cope with feelings, relieve stress, exercise control over their surroundings, and experiment with decision making.
Children’s imaginations can take them wonderful places, alone or with peers. It is over the preschool years that children move from parallel play (where “friends” play side-by-side but separately) to social play (where friends interact, share ideas, and build off the play of the other). During this time, children begin to be able to play games, where they learn turn taking and sharing, as well as how to adhere to the rules. What children learn through these playful interactions is many-fold!: they are beginning to learn to interpret others’ perspectives, to regulate their responses and interactions, manage impulse control, increase both their ability to wait and to demonstrate patience, as well as their ability to share an object or event. Being able to follow rules and manage emotions is tough for young children. Supporting your child as you play games together is a great way to foster his social skills. Learn more on how to help your child contend with impulsivity here.
90,000 features of social and personal development of young children | Article (younger group) on the topic:
Features of the social and personal development of young children
Early age is a period of intensive mastering by the child of various types of activities and personality development. In child psychology and pedagogy, the following main directions in the development of a child at this age stage are distinguished:
development of objective activity;
development of communication with adults;
speech development;
game development;
involvement in various types of artistic and aesthetic activities;
development of communication with peers, physical development and personality development
This division is rather arbitrary, since development is a single process in which the selected areas intersect, interact and complement each other.
The social development of a child begins in the first weeks and months of his life. The helplessness of the newborn is an unconditional prerequisite for his appeal to the people around him. The well-being of the child in subsequent years, including school years, largely depends on how successful his early social experience turned out to be.
Socialization is understood as the process of development of biologically necessary and socially approved stereotypes of behavior, the formation of ideas about the norms and social expectations of certain behavior. At the same time, socialization is usually understood as the whole multifaceted process of assimilation by a person of the experience of social life and social relations. Early socialization is associated mainly with the first stage of this process. Socialization at an early age begins almost simultaneously with the moment when the child is physically separated from the mother. One of the main indicators of the social maturation of a small child is his consent to let his mother go away from him for a while. This means that he is already able for some, even a short time, to independently interact with other people.
An equally important indicator of the development of a child’s social needs is the emergence of interest in other children on the street. The desire to communicate with other children indicates that the baby has his own circle of interests that goes beyond family contacts. A child’s mastery of basic self-care skills also indicates his readiness to do without outside help. It is known that socially active children, striving for independence and not experiencing fear of new life experiences, master the skills of self-care faster. Consequently, this parameter, despite its outward persuasiveness, is secondary, derived from the level of development of the child’s social needs.
Important changes in a child’s personality occur during early childhood. These changes, according to VS Mukhina, are primarily associated with the development of objective activity and communication with adults. The actions of the baby with objects become more diverse and dexterous. He already knows how to do a lot himself, knows the names and purposes of household items, strives to help adults: wash dishes, wipe the table, vacuum the floor, water the flowers. He increasingly consciously wants to act like an adult, he begins to be attracted not only by the process of performing an action, but also by its result. The child tries to get the same result as the adult. Thus, the child’s attitude to his activity gradually changes: the result becomes its regulator. In independent studies, games, the baby begins to be guided by the plan, the desire to achieve success in activities.
Mastery of objective activity stimulates the development of such personal qualities of children as initiative, independence, purposefulness. The child becomes more and more persistent in achieving the goal.
Relationship with an adult is moving to a new level. Now an adult is a carrier of knowledge and patterns of human actions with objects, with his help the baby learns the object environment. It must be borne in mind that a child’s full mastery of objective activity occurs only in the process of communicating with adults.
Communication between a child and adults at an early age has specific features. A child who has full communication with adults is characterized by the following features:
the child is proactive in relation to an adult – seeks to draw his attention to his actions, asks for help and evaluation of his actions;
insistently requires adult participation in their affairs;
sensitive to the attitude of an adult, to his assessment, knows how to restructure his behavior depending on the behavior of an adult, subtly distinguishes between praise and censure;
willingly imitates an adult, fulfills his requests and instructions; timely masters active speech, uses it for communication purposes.
Mastery of speech is the most important event at this age. This happens in communication with an adult by naming objects and indicating actions. Later, speech acquires the function of the main mental instrument. It becomes a means of thinking, imagining, mastering one’s own behavior, and so on.
At an early age, self-care skills are formed: the baby dresses himself, uses a spoon and fork, drinks from a cup, goes to the potty, washes his hands, etc.
Interest in objects and actions with them leads to the emergence of a process game: the process itself is important for the baby, for example, feeding a doll or riding a bear on a typewriter By the end of this period, elements of creativity appear in the child’s play, an imaginary situation comes to the fore in relation to the visual and an independent plot game is formed, which is important in development and becomes the leading activity of a preschool child.
There is a noticeable change in communication: actions towards a peer as an inanimate object are on the wane, there is a desire to interest him in himself, sensitivity to the attitude of a peer. More and more kids are enjoying playing together. Their unpretentious and short-term actions are based on imitation of each other, but they speak of nascent communication. However, no matter how attractive the game with a peer is, an adult or a toy that appears in the field of view distracts the children from each other.
In the third year of life, communication with peers begins to take an increasing place. This is due to the fact that by the age of three, a special, specific content of children’s communication with each other arises. A peer for a child acts as a kind of mirror in which the child sees a reflection of his being. Therefore, communication is a powerful means of self-knowledge, the formation of an adequate self-image.
Communication with peers is one of the most important sources for the development of a child’s cognitive activity. The presence of a peer nearby activates even a baby. Contacts between children give them additional impressions, positive experiences, open up the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, contribute to the disclosure of creativity and originality. In the course of communication with each other, the kids develop and improve joint practical and play actions, and ideas about another person are formed.
So, in the third year of life, a child experiences a special need for communication with a peer, which is satisfied in an emotionally colored game. But even towards the end of an early age, the communication of children with each other is still inferior in attractiveness to communication with adults and objective activity.
Primary experience associated with the period of early childhood, with the formation of basic mental functions and elementary forms of social behavior, acts as one of the main sources of socialization of the individual.
For a child, the family is not only a source and condition for the development of his psyche, expanding his knowledge and ideas about the world around him, but also the first model of social relations accepted in this particular society that he encounters. It is in the family that the child gets acquainted with the meaning and essence of the social roles of mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, brother, sister, son, daughter. As he gets older, he also realizes that layer of family ties, the center of which is not him, but other family members: husband, wife, uncle, aunt, and other relatives.
Even if the structure of the family in which the child lives is quite complex and hierarchical, it cannot provide the child with the opportunity to fully acquire the experience of social behavior that is necessary for entering into a different, wider circle of social relations that goes beyond family ties . The older the child becomes, the greater the role begins to play such an aspect of his social development as mastering the norms and rules of social relationships.
Thus, V.S. Mukhina believes that “the social development of the child goes in two directions: through the assimilation of the rules of the relationship of people with each other and through the interaction of the child with the object in the world of permanent things” But it is not enough just to provide the child with knowledge about how society works, how it is customary to behave in German It is necessary to create conditions for him to acquire personal social experience, since socialization involves the active participation of the person himself in mastering the culture of human relations, mastering social norms and roles, and developing psychological mechanisms of social behavior.

Outdoor Pool
Our “Splash and Play” swim enrichment program is for children 3 years and older and focuses on water games, swimming-readiness skills, and safety in and around the pool. The pool is properly secured with fences and child-proof gates, ensuring children are only able to gain access during designated pool activities. Safe, supervised pool time with familiar adults helps preschoolers become more comfortable in the water and improves balance and coordination.

FAQs
AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED
We’re so proud!
Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.
SCHOOL-READY
What Learning Looks Like
Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.
Greenwood Avenue KinderCare Programs
Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)
Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.
Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)
Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.
Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)
This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!
Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)
When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.
School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)
Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.
Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program
Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)
In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!
Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)
KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.
Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)
Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)
Spanish
Spanish Adventures provides young learners with a foundation for later success with
the Spanish language. Music, games, children’s Spanish literature, and other tools give
children multiple opportunities to hear, practice, and see Spanish language to develop
vocabulary and conversation skills. Curriculum includes lessons on greetings, numbers,
colors, animals, family, body parts, and pets, as well as how to engage conversationally
during common scenarios at home, a restaurant, or at the zoo.
STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)
You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
amazing things!
Our Teachers
We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.

Family Stories
Don’t take our word for it. Hear what our families have to say about our amazing center!
My son is four years old, and my daughter is one and both have been attending KinderCare since they were both three months old. It is very difficult decision for any parent to entrust someone else to care for their children, so when we found KinderCare, we were relieved and impressed. Our experience with KinderCare has been nothing but positive and they have made us feel welcome, and most of all my kids love to go! The staff truly takes the time to create a rewarding and educational experience for them. It is extremely reassuring to know that not only are they being well taken care of, but they are also learning and creating new friends and experiences as they grow. The staff really makes you feel that you are part of a family and for the extra mile to keep you informed on what your child is up to each and every day. The activities and Learning Adventures they provide are one of a kind and make each child feel included. They also have a ton of additional extra circular activities that you can sign your child up for. My husband and I are grateful that we found such a great and safe environment for our children and would recommend to anyone.
Rebecca F. – KinderCare Parent
Both of my daughters have attended KinderCare in Torrance. My oldest daughter graduated Prekindergarten there 2 years ago and my youngest one will graduate Prekindergarten this June. She has been going there since she was 8 months old. I am VERY happy with the Teachers and Directors with how caring and loving they are. They are always supportive and keep me well informed of daily activities and my daughter’s progress. I feel extremely SAFE having my daughter here. I never have to worry about her safety. I know she is in excellent hands each day! I am happy with the curriculum and my daughter is well ahead/advanced for her age group, due to the daily learning that she has experienced at KinderCare all of these years. She loves her nap/quiet time each day and her healthy snacks provided by the Center are always great. I would definitely refer anyone I know to go to KinderCare Torrance. I am very happy my Daughter goes there!
Cristy H. – KinderCare Parent
My Juliette started in October 2016. She is a firecracker so I was afraid she wouldn’t fit in. She was at a preschool in Torrance prior to KinderCare and noticed it was too strict and she was just not enjoying herself. At Greenwood not only did my Juliette become more social but she was herself. She gets to be a kid and play but also learn, there is flexibility for each child it is not so disciplinary. The teachers are so nice, loving and caring. She loves Ms Arlene, Ms Brittney from preschool, now while at Pre-K she loves Mrs Naz, Ms Melissa, Ms Ariel. The office ladies are so wonderful too. Ms Elvia and Ms Cynthia are dedicated and friendly. They always greet us with a smile, they ask how we are doing and help us with any questions or concerns regarding events, tuition, or my kids schedule. I love this pre-school. I can’t be happier and more at ease to know she is safe and well cared for while I am at work.

The article is devoted to the study of creativity of a teacher of preschool education. The aim of the study was to study the influence of motivating factors on the professional creativity of teachers. The developing subject-spatial environment was considered as the main indicator of the manifestation of creativity in the work of a teacher. Particular attention is paid to the influence of creative activity on the transformation of the subject space of the group on creative development and a change in the attitude of the educator to professional activity. The developing object-spatial environment of the kindergarten is considered from several sides: as a product of the teacher’s creativity, as a place of interaction between the teacher and children, as an area for the application of the teacher’s creative abilities.
The article was prepared on the basis of experimental research using methods of questioning teachers and monitoring their work. The study was conducted on the basis of two preschool institutions in the city of Ivanovo, Ivanovo region, 16 educators took part in it.
Scales for assessing the conditions of children’s creative activity in independent activities and in visual arts were used as tools. To study changes in the sources of professional motivation of teachers, a questionnaire developed by D. Barbuto and R. Skoll was used. The study consisted of two stages, each of which introduced a new motivating factor. After each stage, the sources of professional motivation of teachers were measured, the state of the developing environment of the group was assessed, and interaction was assessed during the lesson in fine arts, which was chosen as the most creative type of educational activity. Professional competition and the involvement of teachers in the dissemination of experience were used as motivating factors.
The results of our study showed that the use of these motivating factors contributed to the launch of the creative cycle among teachers, which resulted in creative changes in the organization of the subject space of groups, and improved interaction between the teacher and children in the classroom for fine arts. Creative manifestations in the subject space and interaction with pupils were also reflected in the motivational sphere of teachers.
Excerpt from Article
Creativity of a preschool teacher is an important factor influencing the success of his interaction with children, as well as satisfaction with professional activities. The developing subject-spatial environment of a kindergarten always attracts the attention of creative educators, because with its help you can not only increase the aesthetic appeal of a group room, but also make it interesting for children. Our study is connected with the study of the influence of activities on the organization of the subject space of the preschool group on the development of the teacher’s creativity, his attitude to work and children. The transformation of the developing environment will require teachers to acquire new knowledge and skills – self-education. Improving and changing the playing space, the teacher will have to pay more attention to the interests and needs of children, identify and take into account the characteristics of the group of preschoolers. We believe that everything created and implemented by a teacher can be recognized as necessary and correct only if it works for the development of the child, enriching his playing experience, and expanding cognitive interest. That is why it is very important to direct the teacher’s professional creativity towards children’s interests and needs, which is impossible without constant interaction between the teacher and the child. We suggested that this interest is one of the motivating mechanisms that drive pedagogical creativity. But not all teachers have a sincere interest in the child, so our task is to find another way to activate pedagogical creativity, which, by launching the creative cycle, will lead to the appearance of this interest in the educator. In this case, the developing environment will become the area of application of the teacher’s creativity, and the child will become a guideline and criterion for evaluation.
Creativity components of a preschool teacher
In order to determine what motivating mechanisms and forms of work with the team will contribute to the development of teachers’ creativity, it is necessary to consider in more detail the very phenomenon of creativity and its specifics in the work of a preschool teacher.
Creativity in the general sense is the process or result of creating a subjectively new thing. The main criterion that distinguishes creativity from manufacturing (production) is the uniqueness of the result. In modern psychology, there is another term – “creativity”, close to the concept of creativity. The concept of creativity was introduced by E. Torrance and means the ability to be creative in a broad sense, that is, the ability to find new solutions to problems, generate a large number of options for such solutions (Torrance, 1966). Currently, the concepts of creativity and creativity are accepted as identical, therefore, in our work, we will consider them identical. T. Lubart studied the creative potential of the individual. Based on his observations, he compiled a multi-component model in which he identified several components of creativity:
• intrinsic and extrinsic motivation;
• personality traits;
• intellectual abilities and divergent thinking (Lubart, 2005; 2009).
These components, according to Lubart, constitute the potential for creativity, which is influenced by environmental factors, reducing or increasing it (Meshkova, 2015). Based on the Lubart model, we can single out internal and external motivation as the main component of the creativity of a preschool teacher.

Pinnacle is a research-based early childhood curriculum, designed with both teachers and students in mind. Based on the works of Piaget, Gardner, and Erikson, Pinnacle provides teachers with lessons that engage children in developmentally appropriate activities. Pinnacle is published in an easy-to-use, reusable format that includes lesson plan guides, activity enrichments, and long range goals linked to key standards. Comprehensive programs are offered for Infants, Toddlers, Two’s, Three’s, Four’s, and School-Age children.
Dive Right In
+ In order to accomplish these goals, Small Voices’ Academy will:
+ Offer a wide range of enriching activities to meet the needs of each child.
+ Focus on building a strong and balanced foundation of emotional, social, cognitive, and physical skills for each child.
+ Offer multi-cultural and developmentally appropriate materials and equipment.
+ Provide a safe and secure environment.
+ Offer open communication with parents in an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect.
At Small Voices’ Academy we create an environment where professionals support the nurturing and learning of your child’s needs, with hands-on Administrators taking a personal interest in your family’s childcare decision. In our seven classrooms, each child’s natural curiosity and creativity is developed. Small Voices’ Academy is dedicated to providing the foundation to encourage your child’s lifelong love of learning.
Enroll in our hands-on, innovative class for intermediate and advanced students. Our qualified and experienced teachers serve as facilitators of the learning process. Instead of simply lecturing, they guide students by helping make sense of course materials, encouraging them to ask questions and explore solutions, and promoting the use of resources outside of the classroom.
Where Students Come First
The philosophy of Small Voices’ Academy is one of which all children must be treated as individuals. We also will be focusing on process rather than product. We will help develop the whole child, spiritually, physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
We will employ qualified caregivers whom will nurture the children we serve. All of our caregivers will facilitate developmentally appropriate curricula using the best practices for young children and foster an early learning experience.
Each child’s physical needs and safety are given primary attention.
Our health and nutritional programs will stress the physical well being of the child.
Social needs including getting along with peers, relationships with caring adults and adjusting to being away from parents, are essential to our program. We value all our children and treat them with the utmost respect, love, and courtesy. It is our belief that reasonable rules administered in a calm and consistent manner promote socially acceptable behavior among children.
Language is a central part of our program. Adults will engage children in communication and problem-solving skills as they supervise, question, clarify and encourage. Listening, speaking, writing, and reading activities will be incorporated into the daily schedule.
For your convenience, we will post special announcements, or any closings and/or delays here.
Small Voices’ Academy is a locally owned and operated child care center licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services to care for children from 6 weeks to 12 years old. Methodology
Pros Explained
No-medical-exam coverage: Senior Life offers life insurance without a medical exam. At the most, you may need to answer a few health questions when you apply.
Guaranteed issue whole life insurance: If you can’t qualify for coverage based on your health, Senior Life offers small whole life plans designed for people with moderate to significant health conditions, including a guaranteed issue policy.
Return of premium term available: Senior Life offers a return of premium term policy, which means that if you outlive the 20-year term, you can have 100% of the premiums you paid returned to you. This type of policy is more expensive than a regular term policy, but is not a common offering among insurers.
Cons Explained
Low coverage amounts: The maximum death benefit you can get with Senior Life is $50,000, via the company’s term policy. Whole life coverage is capped at $30,000. These coverage amounts may be sufficient to cover final expenses, but aren’t generally enough to cover other life insurance needs, such as replacing lost income.
Limited policy types: Senior Life only offers two types of policies: Whole life and term. Many companies offer other types of coverage, such as universal life insurance and indexed policies.
Maximum 20-year term: Many insurers that issue term coverage offer terms up to 30 years. But Senior Life’s maximum (and only) available term is 20 years long.
Not rated by AM Best: Of the 91 life insurance companies we reviewed, Senior Life was one of only two companies not rated by the credit rating agency. This makes it more difficult to tell how likely Senior Life is to be able to honor its insurance obligations, such as paying claims.
Many more complaints than expected: Senior Life received a very high number of complaints relative to its size. According to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the company received more than three times the number of expected complaints, averaged over three years.
Complaint Index
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) tracks the number of customer complaints that life insurance companies receive and calculates a complaint index for each company based on its size or market share. A complaint index of 1.0 indicates that a life insurance company received an expected number of complaints, while an index below 1. 00 means the company received fewer complaints than expected. A complaint index above 1.00 indicates the company received more complaints than expected.
Senior Life Insurance Company received a 3.67 complaint index, averaged over three years. This is a surprisingly high number—almost five times the number of expected complaints—and makes a case for choosing a different life insurance company with a lower complaint index, such as State Farm, Nationwide, or New York Life. All of these insurers have a complaint index below 1.00. Only eight other companies out of the 91 life insurance companies we reviewed received a complaint index score of above 5.00.
Third-Party Ratings
We use AM Best ratings to get a sense of how financially stable a life insurance company is and therefore how likely it is to be able to pay future insurance claims. AM Best rates over 16,000 insurance companies worldwide, but Senior Life Insurance Company is not one of them. This is not common among the carriers we reviewed. Only one other of the 91 life insurance companies we looked at was not rated.
AM Best assesses a company’s ability to pay its claims on a graded scale, with A++ being the highest. All our best life insurance companies have at least an A rating. Since Senior Life isn’t rated, it makes it difficult to know how likely the company is to be able to pay future claims.
Policies Available
Senior Life offers two types of policies: term and whole life. Neither requires a medical exam.
Term Life Insurance
Term life insurance is designed to last for a specific number of years, such as 20. Unlike whole life insurance, it is not permanent coverage and does not build a cash value. Senior Life offers two 20-year term policies with available coverage up to $50,000. If you choose a return-of-premium term, you’ll get 100% of the premiums returned to you if you outlive the 20-year term. This feature increases the policy’s cost and is not a common offering among insurance carriers.
Final Expense Insurance
Final expense coverage, or burial insurance, is a whole life insurance policy with a small death benefit. Beneficiaries can use the death benefit for whatever they need, but it’s often marketed to cover funeral expenses and final bills. Whole life policies build a cash value and last your entire life as long as premiums are paid. Senior Life offers coverage up to $30,000, but only if you qualify for the “ultimate” or “super preferred” plans. They also offer a guaranteed issue policy that anyone up to age 85 can qualify for, regardless of health conditions.
Some of Senior Life’s whole life insurance policies have a graded death benefit period for up to three years. If you die of natural causes during this time, your beneficiaries receive the premiums you paid plus 10% instead of the full death benefit.
Available Riders
Senior Life makes few riders available. Here are a few that may be available to you.
Accidental Death Benefit
An accidental death benefit pays an additional benefit on top of your death benefit if you die as the result of an accident.
Child Rider
A child rider adds term coverage to your base policy for your dependent children. Coverage is usually limited and may be convertible to permanent coverage once your child becomes an adult.
Charitable Benefit
A charitable benefit may provide a small additional benefit (often a fraction of your policy’s value) to the charity of your choice.
Customer Service
Senior Life Insurance Company makes it possible to connect with their customer support team via an online contact form or by phone at (229)-228-6936. The online form can’t be used to change beneficiaries or ownership, modify your policy, or cancel coverage. Policy modifications must be made by connecting with their home office by phone. You can reach them via phone during the following business hours:
9AM to 6PM EST Monday through Thursday
9AM to 5PM EST on Friday
Our Methodology: How We Review Life Insurance Carriers
We designed a comprehensive ranking methodology based on consumer priorities and life insurance company fundamentals to rank more than 90 insurers across five general categories: financial stability, customer satisfaction, product and feature variety, the overall buying experience, and cost.
In order to do this, we collected over 5,000 data points and scored each company based on 55 metrics. We grouped metrics by category to see how insurers performed in each; we then weighted category scores to determine how companies performed overall.

Senior Life Insurance Company Customer Reviews
Better Business Bureau
THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ELDERLY!!!! I discovered my elderly parents signed up for a $5,000 life ins. policy for my mom. They have been paying $62.12/mo since 2009 (currently almost $9,000 paid for a $5k policy).. this policy matures in 20 yrs after they would have taken nearly $15,000 payment from my folks for a $5,000 policy. Once I learned of this rip off, I immediately cancelled her policy (I had to call several times because of no answer, I thought this place was a scam) and although my mom has paid almost $9,000.. they are saying all she will get back is $2,113. Also the woman was very rude. AVOID THIS RIP OFF.
Better Business Bureau
My brother passed 30 days before his 1 year. It’s been 4 months and they are still investigating. I should have at least received what he paid, they are so insensitive.
Yelp
If I could put zero stars, I would. My grandfather passed on 11/20/2020, I was unable to get in touch with the company to notify them on his death until Monday morning. Once I was about to speak with someone on the phone they continued to talk about benefits offered by the company such as purchasing a casket and a headstone. The insurance was not guaranteed as told to my grandfather. Because my grandfather passed before the 2 years of the policy, I was informed that a investigation needed to be conducted to ensure that my grandfather did not lie about his health conditions.
Yelp
I had purchased an insurance policy for my wife and we couldn’t be happier. Andrew Davis was knowledgeable and extremely helpful. He is a true professional. He is kind and considerate and a pleasure to do business with.
Yelp
Customer service is horrible. It’s been 3 months and we still can’t transfer the policy to my mother’s name. My father passed away and and death certificate is not enough we need to pay to get notarized a transfer form. Also, the company is only eastern time so any other time zone make time to call within their working hours.
TrustedChoice.com’s Final Review
We award Senior Life Insurance Company a final rating of 2 out of 5 stars. The insurance company has a half century’s worth of experience in the industry and a high rating by the BBB. However, they are not accredited through the BBB and have had a couple dozen complaints filed against them in recent years.
Coverage for seniors is available with no medical exam required, which is one of the carrier’s only pros. Senior Life’s official website needs a major update. The layout is confusing and some of the graphics and not styled properly, such as their coverage details. Further, we’re quite concerned about the disturbing volume of negative customer reviews across multiple platforms.
Overall, we recommend working with an independent insurance agent to survey your other options for life insurance.

The life insurance market has plateaued after last year’s pension annuity boom
The AFK Analytical Center presents to your attention an overview of the Kazakhstani life insurance market for the first quarter of 2022.
Key trends of the period
In the first quarter of 2022, the main indicators of the life insurance market showed a decline.
LIC assets decreased slightly, to ₸775.6 billion (-1%), which is 41% of the total assets of the entire insurance market.
In the structure of assets, the largest share (81%) is occupied by securities, the volume of which as of April 1, 2022 amounted to ₸631.6 billion (-2% or ₸12.9billion).
Concentration in the sector has not changed: 80% of the life insurance market in terms of assets is still occupied by four large companies: Nomad Life (+3%), Halyk-Life (-2%), FFLife (-9%) and KSZH Eurasia (+ four%).
LIC reserves increased by 6%, mainly due to an increase in reserves for non-incurred losses under life insurance contracts (+22% or ₸23.3 billion).
In 1 sq. 2022 there is a decrease in REPO transactions by 32%, the volume of LIC liabilities increased by 1%.
In 1 sq. In 2022, net insurance premiums fell by 14%, which may be due to the peak demand for the purchase of a pension annuity last year, when it doubled after the legislative reduction in the threshold for pension savings for annuity purchase.
The volume of payments increased by 38% due to a 3.3-fold increase in life insurance payments. As a result, the ratio of payments to premiums in the LIC market compared to Q1 2021 increased from 8% to 13%. At the same time, 53% of all payments fall on annuity insurance.
The decrease in LIC income by 7% or ₸7.0 billion was due to a reduction in income from insurance activities by 12% or ₸10.6 billion. Taking into account the decrease in expenses by 7%, net profit for 1 sq. 2022 decreased by 9% or ₸0.7 billion
Return on equity in 1 sq.m. 2022 for the LIC market was 6%, unchanged compared to the same indicator last year.
An additional impetus to the development of the LIC market in 2022 can be given by the legislative improvement of Unit-linked products and marital annuities, the participation of LICs in the state educational system, as well as further digitalization of the industry.
Period summary
Q1
In 2022, there was a decrease in profits of the life insurance sector due to a decrease in net insurance premiums earned by 12% or ₸10.6 billion
At the same time, the decrease in income was partially offset by an increase in income in the form of interest on securities. Meanwhile, a significant decrease in the market value of securities in LIC assets was almost completely offset by a positive exchange rate difference during periods of tenge volatility.
As for expenses, in 1 sq. In 2022, they also decreased, mainly due to a decrease in the reserve for non-occurred losses on annuity contracts (-72%), as well as a reduction in expenses for the payment of commissions on insurance activities (-37%) and expenses related to the termination of insurance contracts (-13%).
Against the background of increased collection of insurance premiums under pension annuity agreements in Q1. 2021 — in the same period of the current year, their volume decreased by 53% or ₸23.9billion tenge. At the same time, compared with 1 sq.
Growth in insurance premiums was observed mainly due to a 3.8-fold increase in the average life insurance premium. Accordingly, with a decrease in the number of payments in 1 sq. 2022 by 15%, their volume increased by 3.3 times.
The weighted average return on equity, despite maintaining the average value for LICs, was characterized by a significant spread between market players (from -8% to +24%) due to various reasons, including due to the revaluation of financial instruments, an increase in administrative expenses , changes in net insurance premiums, etc.
The life insurance industry can be supported by expanding the line of insurance products by improving the legislation on Unit-Linked and joint (marital) annuities, as well as the participation of LICs in the state educational funded system.
At the same time, taking into account the “boom” of annuity insurance in 2021, a similar growth of the sector is not expected this year.

These 10 Cities In Virginia Have The Best Schools
Posted in Virginia
August 28, 2015
by Anna Strock
Virginia is known for its outstanding schools – from elementary schools through universities and colleges. We are consistently ranked in the top 20% nationally for our statewide school systems, with individual schools, colleges and universities falling in the top spots in national rankings from sources like U.S. News & World Report.
While, traditionally, Northern Virginia schools have dominated national rankings, today, we are taking a look at the numbers from a different angle, showing many smaller towns and areas that offer outstanding educational opportunities.
When it comes to looking at which areas gain top honors at a state level, we’ve turned to a site called School Digger for our data. School Digger uses 2014-2015 test scores published by the Virginia Department of Education, then normalizes and averages each school’s test scores across all tests and grades. From there the schools are ranked. To find which cities and towns have the highest scores overall, they establish a “Rank Score” by averaging the rank percentile for each eligible school within the city or town.
We think you might be pleasantly surprised to see just how many great schools we have out there…
1. Millboro (Bath County Public Schools): Rank Score 0.989
Millboro Elementary School
Located in Bath County, this town has only one school in the town limits, Millboro Elementary (K-7). Upper school students attend the county high school, so were not included in the average. Certainly, this helps keep the test score high, but this last school year, Millboro Elementary received the 2015 Board of Education Distinquished Achievement Award, showing that they’ve earned their place at the head of the class. The schools had an Average Standard Score of 94.59% in 2015.
2. West Point (West Point Public Schools): Rank Score 0.975
West Point Public Schools / Facebook
With an elementary, middle and high school all within the town limits, this King William County town showed strong performances across the board. Both West Point High School (Average Standard Score: 91. 96%) and West Point Elementary (Average Standard Score: 84.72%) showed up in the top 10 best schools in their category, with the high school at #2 and the elementary school at #6, giving them an impressive average and high ranking on School Digger’s list.
3. Great Falls (Fairfax County Public Schools): Rank Score 0.964
Great Falls Elementary School
With 2 elementary schools, Great Falls in Northern Virginia comes in with Average Standard Scores over 87% and a #3 spot on School Digger’s list. Located in Fairfax County, Great Falls’ students feed into Langley High School, which is #18 on School Digger’s list of top high schools.
4. McLean (Fairfax Public Schools): Rank Score 0.963
Fairfax County / flickr
McLean offers 5 elementary schools, 1 middle school and 1 high school within it’s school zone. McLean High School has received an impressive Best High School Gold ranking from U.S. News and World Report. The photo above shows the McLean High School girls’ gymnastics receiving recognition from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors after winning the Virginia High School League 6A state championship.
5. Penhook (Franklin County Public Schools): Rank Score 0.963
Snow Creek Elementary School
Penhook’s Snow Creek Elementary is the only school in Penhook (a census-designated area in Franklin County), but with Average Standard Scores of almost 87%, Penhook stays ahead of the curve. Recognized for providing high quality education for economically disadvantaged students, Snow Creek gained recognition from the Board of Education as a “Title I Highly Distinguished School” in 2014.
6. Scottsville (Albemarle County Public Schools): Rank Score 0.957
Scottsville Elementary School
This little town on the border of Albemarle and Fluvanna Counites boasts one elementary school (middle and high school students attend Walton Middle School and Monticello High School). Average Standard Scores of 86.33% help to keep this school in the top 50 elementary schools statewide and put Scottsville in the School Digger Top 10.
7. Rosedale (Russell County Public Schools): Rank Score 0. 949
Jimmy Emerson, DVM / flickr
Rosedale is set against the stunning backdrop of Southwest Virginia with one elementary school. And, of course, its only fitting that this historic area would have an historic school. Belfast Elk Garden Elementary School started as a one-room log cabin school in 1885. The current building was constructed in 1916 and, today, is the oldest school building in Russell County. Serving grades k-6, Belfast Elk Garden Elementary School shows test scores averaging out at almost 86%.
8. Hampton Roads at Langley Air Force Base (York County Public Schools): 0.942
York County School Division / Facebook
No, Langley Air Force Base is NOT a town. However, because of the large number of military personnel and families living at the Hampton Roads base, Bethel Manor Elementary School is housed on the base. School Digger included Bethel Manor on their list because of its Standard Average Scores of 85.56%. This school is clearly doing a great job of preparing kids to move on to the next level.
9. Weber City (Scott County Public Schools): Rank Score 0.932
Weber City Elementary School
Located in the Appalachian Mountains in Southwest Virginia’s Scott County, Weber City is home to Weber City Elementary (upper school students attend county-wide schools). With Standard Average Test Scores of 84.78%, Weber City focuses on “Inspiring Excellence and Empowering Potential.” With these kinds of scores, it appears they are meeting their goals.
10. Oakton (Fairfax County Public Schools): Rank Score 0.927
Oakton Elementary School
Situated in Fairfax County, Oakton includes 2 elementary schools, Oakton Elementary and Waples Mill Elementary, in their averages. With Standard Average Scores of 82.05% and 87.40% respectively, these schools are helping to set the academic standards in the state. Although Oakton High School and James Madison High School serve the students of Oakton, they are both, technically, located in nearby Vienna.

89% of Virginia schools earn accreditation for 2022-23
Eighty-nine percent of Virginia schools received full accreditation for the 2022-23 school year, according to data released from the state’s Department of Education on Thursday.
The last time accreditation data was released, in 2019-20, 92% of schools — 1,682 of 1,825 — were fully accredited. Accreditation was waived the last two years due to the pandemic.

The state uses a tiered system to determine where schools fall based on academic achievement, achievement gaps and student engagement and outcomes. Performance in each category is rated using levels.
For example, according to the data, 1,705 Virginia schools reached Level One in their academic achievement in English. Schools that reach Level One meet or exceed the state’s standards and are asked to continue monitoring where they land on the indicator.
Accreditation is tied to the amount of funding a school receives.
The accreditation data comes weeks after standardized test scores from across the state revealed declines attributed to pandemic learning loss. Several Northern Virginia jurisdictions saw gains in test scores compared to the year prior, but still aren’t at pre-pandemic levels.
In Prince William County, the state’s second-largest school system, seven schools were accredited with conditions. School board chairman Babur Lateef said science scores are the area of most concern, and that two schools are new and received conditions because of a lack of historical data.
“Our strategic plan has acknowledged many of the concerns raised in this report and in prior reports,” Lateef said. “While I recognize the VDOE provides guidance and makes rules for school divisions, the ultimate responsibility of governing our schools is by locally elected school boards. Parents, just like me, have this responsibility.”
Loudoun County said in a news release Friday that all eligible schools were fully accredited.
In Northern Virginia, fewer than 1 percent of schools are not fully accredited.
Ashley Simpson Baird, a school board member in Alexandria, said accreditation data is a more “informative” metric than test scores alone because they also include growth and achievement gaps by race/ethnicity, among other factors.
In a statement, State Superintendent Jillian Balow said the ratings “call into question the effectiveness of our accreditation standards in identifying schools where students are struggling to achieve grade-level proficiency.”
“Accreditation is one of the primary drivers of state interventions and local efforts to improve outcomes for students, and frankly, the school ratings we are releasing today fail to capture the extent of the crisis facing our schools and students,” she said.
Former Secretary of Education Atif Qarni shot back against Balow, telling WTOP that Virginia worked with the U.S. Department of Education in 2015 to establish a rigorous accreditation standard to show “a deep flashlight into academic achievement of subgroups of students.”
“This Governor ran on a manufactured narrative that Virginia schools are failing, and since the new ratings don’t fit his narrative, he wants to manufacture an alternate realty,” Qarni said in a statement. “However, the facts are that our hardworking educators and staff worked with our amazing resilient children to make sure academic achievement was not as severely hindered.”
The data also shows that 132 schools were accredited with conditions, meaning they received full accreditation due to waivers approved by the General Assembly in 2015. The legislative passed three-year waivers from annual reviews to schools previously accredited for three consecutive years.
See the school accreditation information here.

Not every parent, looking at the list of the best schools or universities, can figure out what is hidden behind the numbers and criteria. It is even more difficult to compare several different ratings – and this is necessary to get a whole picture. Using the example of the latest top 100 ranking of the best schools in terms of student competitiveness, released by the RAEX rating agency, let’s look at how to interpret analysts’ data.
According to RAEX, the top ten included the SSC at Moscow State University, the secondary school of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence (Moscow), the Vtoraya Shkola Lyceum (Moscow), the Fiztekh-Lyceum im. Kapitsa (Moscow Region), Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 31 of Chelyabinsk, University Gymnasium of Moscow State University. Lomonosov, Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239 (St. Petersburg), Lyceum KEO (Rostov Region), schools No. 2007 and No. 179, both Moscow. The rating takes into account which universities the graduates of these schools entered, with what score, the number of Olympiads enrolled out of competition. According to analysts, the majority of graduates of the top 100 schools become students of the best universities in the country. What does this follow from?
“When preparing the ranking, we poll the top 50 universities, according to our own RAEX-100 rating, about the graduates of which schools entered there. The number of applicants is comparable with the number of graduating classes of schools. The higher the percentage of applicants, the higher the position in the ranking is taken by the school. From this, one can understand how great the chances of students of this school to enter one of the 50 universities in Russia that we allocate for the formation of this rating”
Dmitry Kabalinsky
Deputy General Director of the RAEX rating agency
For calculations, three basic ways of entering a university are taken as a basis: based on the results of Olympiads, on a budgetary basis or on a paid basis. Each graduate who entered one of these three options is taken into account with a certain coefficient. The most “expensive” in the ranking are graduates who entered the Olympiads. An Olympian “weighs” 1.33, a school graduate who entered the budget weighs one, and one who entered a paid form of education is taken into account with a coefficient of 0.66. Prevail, based on the coefficients, those schools that prepare mostly Olympiads or graduates who are able to enter the state budget according to the Unified State Examination. This, according to analysts, suggests that schools that occupy leading positions in the ranking provide better training for students and increase their chances of entering a prestigious university.
Most of the schools from the rating are with a physics and mathematics bias, such as Chelyabinsk school No. 31, or schools created on the basis of physics and mathematics. Dmitry Kabalinsky believes that this is due not so much to the high demand for technical specialties, but to the widespread belief that education in the exact sciences provides the best preparation for entering a university. “To enter the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University or the Higher School of Economics, you need to know mathematics at a high level,” the expert warns. – Universities that have traditionally dealt with economics are thinking about establishing cooperation with advanced technical universities and providing students with additional training in the exact sciences, for example, the joint programs of the RANEPA and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. The trend towards interdisciplinary professions has also affected. There is a joke: there are many engineers who become strong economists, but there are no examples of reverse implementation, when a strong economist became a good engineer.”
This year there are more private schools in the rating — six, in the previous rating there were four. According to Kabalinsky, this indicates the strengthening of the positions of private educational institutions in certain areas of training schoolchildren.
But, the analyst draws attention, there are actually no private schools among schools that train specialists mainly for technical universities. But they are quite well represented among the best schools that prepare future students in economics, management and humanities.
In another ranking – 50 best schools in the economic direction – 20% of the places were taken by private schools.
From year to year, the number of specialized schools in the top 100 is growing, and fewer places go to municipal institutions. “The effect of symbiosis between schools and universities has affected. There are lyceums, pre-universities, sponsored gymnasiums at HSE, MEPhI, Moscow State University, and the Russian State Humanitarian University. If parents are interested in their child entering a particular university, then it makes sense to look at schools that work in close contact with the university,” the expert recommends.
The RAEX website states that “municipal institutions, even those with high educational outcomes, are finding it increasingly difficult to compete with others that tend to have greater material, human and administrative resources.” If for several years in a row the top three leaders were headed by the Special Educational and Scientific Center of Moscow State University, the Moscow Lyceum “Second School” and the Chelyabinsk Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 31, this year the second place was taken by the General Education School of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence, established by the Moscow government and engaged in precisely coordinating the activities of the Olympiad movement.
The number of points scored by schoolchildren at the Olympiads and the Unified State Examination can be assessed. But is it possible to evaluate the contribution of the school itself to the development of children’s talent?
We need information bases that would include as many schools and universities as possible
Galina Motova, Director of the Guild of Experts in the Field of Vocational Education:
– The question is whether the schools included in the top 100 are the best “by themselves” because they have great teachers, strong programs? Or are they recognized as the best, because a priori they select the strongest students? Then they will show the best results in the exam and olympiads. Or admission costs a lot of money, and then, of course, the school can afford to hire the best teachers and even university professors. As a rule, it happens.
It is private schools that provide a good education to a greater extent. In the university system, on the contrary, public universities, as a rule, provide a higher quality education than private ones. In the same way as with healthcare: if some specialized operation is needed, then it is better to carry it out in a state hospital, and if the service is mass, for example, dentistry, then a private clinic is still preferable.
Parents who are willing to invest in their child’s education start at school. However, they often see a further educational trajectory for children outside of Russia. If children after a private school go to a private university, then, as a rule, they go abroad. And if there is no opportunity to go abroad, then they will choose already good metropolitan state universities, such as Moscow State University, MGIMO, HSE, and so on.
The landscape of higher education today is very diverse. There are very strong regional universities, such as Tomsk or Novosibirsk, and there are frankly weak ones in Moscow. Even within strong universities, the quality of education is uneven. For example, traditional programs can be quite strong, while recently opened programs that have existed for 5-8 years, which do not yet have established scientific schools, can be relatively weak.
It is believed that economics, which is now taught almost everywhere, in a technical university can be frankly weaker than, for example, in a classical one. It’s not like that at all. Even at an agricultural university, economics can be at a very decent level and enter, for example, the Premier League among similar specialties in the region or even across the country. Because a strong school has developed, there are good teachers, and a laboratory base has been created.
The main thing is that the university should be worthy. How to understand it? There are many ratings – the same RAEX, Interfax, RIA Novosti, open databases on monitoring and the Unified State Examination published by the Ministry of Education and Science, the Hirsch index, which reflects the publication activity of teachers. I would advise you to study the site www.best-edu.ru, all possible grading systems are collected there. These are world rankings, and Russian ones, there are ratings for the university as a whole, and there are ratings for individual areas of training, they can be compared with each other.
In all ratings, as a rule, a very small number of organizations are represented, literally 3-5%. These are 100 universities out of more than 700 that are in Russia, or 100 schools out of all 42,000. All Russian students will not rush into this hundred at once, they will still choose a school or university based on their location, taking into account interests, with taking into account opportunities, including financial ones. Therefore, information bases are needed that would include as many schools and universities as possible, and preferably all that are in Russia.
Knowing which educational institutions in Russia are the best of the best is probably important, but you must admit that such information will be of interest to 1-5% of students who have both financial opportunities and talent to enter top schools.

Ten schools and lyceums of Yekaterinburg became the best in Russia: list | e1.ru
Share
Ten schools, lyceums and gymnasiums in Yekaterinburg were included in the list of the best in Russia by the rating agency RAEX . Experts assessed the competitiveness of students, and they also counted those who entered the most prestigious universities in the country.
Ural lyceums did not make it into the top five, but the 8th position was occupied by the SUNC UrFU. We told the stories of the six most successful graduates of the training center this year, the guys scored 100 and 99 points each on the Unified State Examination (and everyone dreamed of entering Moscow or St. Petersburg). And it was this school that took 31st place in the ranking of the best in the field of “Technical, natural sciences and exact sciences.” Together with her, Yekaterinburg Lyceum No. 130 was on the 43rd place in the list.
But there are other schools in Yekaterinburg that one can be proud of. We publish their list and the places they took in the top 300 by the number of successful graduates.
SUNTS UrFU (8th place).
Gymnasium No. 9 (38th place).
Lyceum No. 130 (63rd place).

By the way, you can compare this list with the schools that had the most 100-points in the USE. A total of 55 Ekaterinburgers wrote their exams with excellent marks this year.
And this is a list compiled by the RAEX agency based on the competitiveness of students. It shows where the largest proportion of students enter the best Russian universities. It is compiled according to the data of admission campaigns of universities. The highest place among the Ekaterinburg schools was again taken by the SESC UrFU, which is quite expected.
SUNTS UrFU (29th place).
Gymnasium No. 9 (49th place).
Lyceum No. 130 (67th place).
Gymnasium No. 13 (115th place).
Lyceum No. 110 named after L.K. Grishina (125th place).
Gymnasium No. 210 “Coripheus” (130th place).
School No. 68 with in-depth study of individual subjects (134th place).
In addition, the RAEX rating agency has determined a list of the top 20 schools in the Sverdlovsk region. Well, who comes first, no need to say? Remember where the smartest children are taught and where you should send your child to study. By the way, in comparison with last year, gymnasium No. 35, 2, 104, lyceum No. 135 and school No. 7 from Pervouralsk have noticeably risen in the ranking.

In addition to them, gymnasiums No. 13, 161, 116, 47, 70, as well as school No. 68 and the polytechnic gymnasium of Nizhny Tagil were in the top 20.
Teachers told what present they would like to receive for the Day of Knowledge. Many asked not for bouquets, but for paper or red pens (basic consumables). But such an attitude to flowers and the holiday as a whole greatly outraged parents. We have collected for you a selection of opinions from E1.RU readers.
You can also check if your child is ready to go to school (and how you can help him right now). Before that, we calculated how much it costs to get ready for school in 2022 (a benefit of 10 thousand is enough, only if you take all the cheapest). In the store, we went through the checklist for parents, save it to your bookmarks.

Drooling is a fact of life if you’re a parent, but excessive drool can be a pain for both parents and their little ones. Too much drooling can cause ruined shirts and make it hard for your baby to swallow their drool without coughing or choking. Thankfully, there are a number of ways you can reduce drooling in your baby. Let’s take a closer look at the top 5 ways to reduce drooling in babies.
Use “drool” Toys:
This method will help prevent drool for a short time, though it won’t stop it completely. “Drool” toys are toys designed to be chewed on. They are especially ideal for reducing drooling that is being brought on by teething, but they can be used even if your baby is not currently teething or experiencing teething pain. Giving your baby something to chew on will stop the drool for a while, resulting in less overall drool during the day. Be sure to only pick toys designed for chewing to ensure maximum safety.
Use a Straw Cup Instead of a Sippy Cup:
This method will help stop excessive drool right in its tracks by encouraging your baby to swallow drool. If your baby is using sippy cups, replace those with a straw cup with a spill-proof design. Using a straw will help your baby increase the strength in their tongue, which will make it much easier for them to swallow drool. This will result in less overflowed drool over time.
Put Petroleum Jelly on their Chin:
This method doesn’t stop the drool, but it does stop the drool’s negative effects! This method may seem strange, but you can actually “trap” the baby drool with a smear of petroleum jelly on your baby’s chin. The petroleum jelly will soak up the drool as it flows down, so that it won’t travel down your baby’s neck and onto their clothing. It can also help prevent your baby’s skin from getting irritated by excessive or evaporated drool as an added bonus!
Limit (or eliminate) Pacifier Time:
This method reduces drooling by removing one of the causes for excessive drool. Pacifiers can be a great soother, especially in babies that tend to be fussy, but they also cause an increase in drool production; unfortunately, this means they are one of the reasons behind excessive drool in some babies. To use this method, reduce your baby’s pacifier time or eliminate it all together if possible.
Teach Them a New Habit:
This method teaches your baby to take care of their own drool. If you want your baby to take charge of their own drool, the best method is to teach them to take care of it on their own. To do this, help your baby learn to wipe their mouth when drool comes out and ‘suck’ it back into their mouth to be swallowed. It will take some repetition and may feel silly at first, but this method works—and gives your baby some newfound independence as well!

Baby Drooling: When Will It Stop?
As a mother of three girls I can certainly remember the days of going through several shirts and bibs per day when my kids were teething. With each child, the drooling lasted for different lengths of time. When should drooling subside in a child’s development? Hopefully this article will help you decide if it is still OK for your child to be drooling at their age, or if you might need some help from an Early Intervention therapist.
Children’s teeth erupt at different frequencies and rates. I can remember that my nephews seemed to have a mouth full of teeth at 4 months old, and then my daughters didn’t get their first teeth until about 6 months of age. Drooling is very typical for teething children. Once you think all their teeth are in, then the two year old molars start, and after that there are even six year molars (that one threw me for a loop as a mother)! Typically children will stop drooling once their first set of teeth is complete. Some children will display minimal drooling when their two year molars are breaking through the gums, or you may see your child putting toys and fingers back in his or her mouth at this time.
So what does it mean if your child continues to drool past the teething stage? There could be several factors taking place when a child is observed drooling.
Congestion
First, is the child experiencing any kind of congestion? We all know that when we have a cold and stuffy nose it is impossible to breathe with our mouths closed. Children will often leave their mouths hanging wide open to breathe which can lead to drooling. This open mouth posture can also be due to an obstruction in their airway, such as enlarged adenoids or tonsils. Take notice if your child snores when he or she is sleeping. If you notice drooling and snoring, then I would recommend you bring these concerns to your pediatrician’s attention to further discuss if any additional evaluations need to be completed.
Low Muscle Tone
Another reason for increased drooling could be low muscle tone around the mouth. According to Wikipedia, low muscle tone (or hypotonia) is defined as a low amount of tension or resistance to the stretch in a muscle. This would also make the child present with an open mouth posture. The child may have had a hard time keeping a pacifier in his or her mouth or creating an effective seal around a bottle nipple or breast when eating. Low muscle tone can be improved with oral motor exercises that can be demonstrated to a parent by an Early Intervention occupational or speech therapist to practice with their child.
Pacifiers
Finally, through my 11 ½ years of experience in Early Intervention I would say that excessive use of a pacifier can also lead to increased drooling. Children who constantly have a pacifier in their mouths are trained to suck and swallow their saliva more frequently because they are creating an increased amount of saliva from the oral stimulation of the pacifier. It is when the pacifier is not in their mouth that you may notice more drooling. The child’s brain is not cueing them to swallow because they are not sucking on the pacifier at that time. They seem to forget that they need to swallow the saliva in their mouth so it just comes drooling out of their mouths.
In conclusion, you should see the drooling decrease significantly once all your child’s teeth have erupted. If the drooling continues after the teething stage you may want to discuss your concerns with your pediatrician or request that your child be evaluated for Early Intervention Services.

But should the process of teething still be accompanied by a runny nose and nasal congestion?
Runny nose during teething
In the first year of a child’s life, when his first milk teeth are cut, a fairly familiar picture is swelling of the gums at the site of eruption, profuse salivation, capriciousness of the child, a desire to put everything in his mouth and chew, in order to relieve itching and discomfort from the gums . In connection with abundant salivation, coughing and even (very rarely) vomiting are possible, when there is really a lot of saliva and the child chokes on it.
But should the process of teething still be accompanied by a runny nose and nasal congestion?
No, there shouldn’t be such manifestations. And if nasal congestion is still present during teething, then first of all it is necessary to exclude the parallel development of a respiratory infection, as well as an allergic reaction, especially if you introduce complementary foods or new foods to your child, or if there is an increased amount of respiratory allergens in the house, for example, the presence of domestic animals.
If there is neither one nor the other, then the vessels of the nasal mucosa of the child really expand and edema appears on such a provocative factor as teething, which should not be normal. Therefore, many otorhinolaryngologists tend to conclude that this is one of the signs of a child’s possible predisposition to vasomotor rhinitis. This vasomotor reaction usually resolves within 2-3 days after eruption.
Coryza during teething
Due to the fact that nasal congestion is still considered atypical for the process of teething, and especially if nasal congestion does not go away in 3-4 days, the child should be shown to an otorhinolaryngologist to exclude the infectious and allergic nature of the disease, as well as make sure that nasal congestion does not provoke inflammatory changes in the tympanic cavity, which, unfortunately, can be completely asymptomatic. In a specialized ENT clinic, using a video endoscope, an otorhinolaryngologist will look at the nasopharynx for hypertrophy of adenoid vegetations, which, although rare, still occurs at such an early age; if a pathology of the ears is suspected, a tympanometry study will be performed.
