Our PlayHouse opened its doors in Lexington, Kentucky August of 2015. We offer a play-based emergent curriculum complete with low teacher to child ratios. Come see our environment and how it is designed topromote exploration, adventure and play.
We believe that children are active participants in their own learning. That is why we encourage them to ask questions, to explore the world around them, and to share what they discover. It’s why we develop our classroom projects based on the interests of the children themselves. And it’s why we like them to get dirty. In order to learn about the world, sometimes you’ve got to play in the dirt!
The Reggio-Emilia approach to early childhood education emphasizes the playful, creative nature of children not just as an inherent quality, but as a key tool for learning. By embracing children as active participants in their own education, we create an environment that encourages cooperation, problem solving and creativity skills that are becoming increasingly sought after in the modern world….

FAQs
AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED
We’re so proud!
Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.
SCHOOL-READY
What Learning Looks Like
Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.
Woodland Early Learning Center Programs
Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)
Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.
Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)
Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.
Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)
This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.
Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)
This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!
Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)
When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.
Our Teachers
We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.

Does my child need to be potty-trained?

Testimonials
“My 1 year old and my soon to be 5th grader LOVE All About Kids. Both are super excited when we go in the morning and my 5th grader has asked to stay later and have me come back to pick her up! They have small ratios, are brand new, and a staff that truly love kids and believe in education.”
-Camille Brann
“We have only been with “All About Kids” for a few weeks, and we are already in love! The staff are all wonderful, and knowledgeable. They treat our son like family, and they are extremely attentive! The facility is very clean and functional as well. Every time I drop our son off, I know he is in good hands. I already recommend this place to friends of mine, and I will continue to do so!”
-Susan Rose
“We love our little girl’s new home away from home! We could not be happier with the tender love and care she is receiving daily from her teachers and staff. Everyone makes her and my family feel so welcome and important everyday. It is a clean, loving, nurturing and scholastic environment for her to flourish in daily. We get daily reports and updates about her day and things happening in the center. I don’t have ANY complaints… so hard to say when it comes to childcare.”
-RayAnn Donoghue
“This is a beautiful brand new facility! The teachers are knowledgeable and absolutely amazing with our 2 year old! The owners and director are very involved and will treat you like family!! I have never had a better childcare experience! Thank you for providing our family with a piece of mind!”

“My son is in the infant room and I LOVE that I can check in on him with the live feed viewing option for his room. It’s so great to see him during the day as a first time mom who had to go back to work. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, the building is amazing and it’s comforting to hear that your child had a good day when you come to pick them up!”

Baby Shower for Dad! Baby Showers Idea for the Expectant Parents!
I had three baby showers (thank you so much to my friends and family!) and looking back, it’s kind of sad that Tyler wasn’t there to celebrate with us! I mean, yes, I did do most of the work during IVF and also in carrying twins, but in looking back on it I wish we had celebrated with a baby shower for the upcoming dad because he was just as excited for Harris and Goldie’s arrival as I was. It would have been fun to invite his friends over for a celebration! I teamed up with Pampers to create the “party that should have been.” If you are expecting your first baby, please have a baby shower for your husband. It will be fun for him and his friends, and he’ll get to experience the same anticipation that you get at your baby shower! Here is what I think would be fun:
1. Create the invitation centered around diapers as a gift. Looking back on my showers and what I got stocked up on from loved ones, I really, really appreciated having a lot of diapers when the twins arrived. Let your husband’s guests know that this will be the ticket to entering the party of the year 😉 I didn’t have to go to the store for diapers for two months after the twins came home from the NICU, and who wants to run to the store for diapers when you have a newborn anyway? That should be the last thing you need to worry about. Your invitation could say something like this:
Diapers for Daddy
Join Father-to-be Tyler Parcell for good eats, good fun and a good movie!
Saturday, September 16th at 7 pm at the Parcell residence
Tyler is a good guy, soon to be a great dad! Please bring a pack of diapers to set him on his way.
2. Good food. I mean, this is a given since who doesn’t love to eat? For me, a good party starts with the food…and also ends with it. Oh, and it’s in the middle too. It can make or break a party! Skip the croissant sandwiches and head straight to the grill for the soon-to-be-dad. My menu was grilled steak, chicken, vegetables and corn on the cob with soda. I put labels in front of each food platter to add to the decor. I think my favorite has to be, “Bubbles for my Brothers” in front of the soda. I literally laughed out loud while I was typing it to print. What can I say, I missed my calling in life! I should write greeting cards for a living with gems like that. 😉 To keep the food warm and fresh off the grill, I put it in metal containers from the dollar store! “Easy cleanup” is always a beautiful song in my ears.
3. Skip the games. Honestly, after talking with a lot of friends and family, I don’t think many people love playing games at baby showers, and I think this would especially apply to Tyler’s friends. They would just want to hang out and catch up, eat good food and watch a good movie together! Life is so busy with work and family that the older we get, it gets harder to spend quality time with friends. Give them time to catch up and let the conversation happen naturally, and choose a good action movie that most of the guys will approve of.
4. Have a basket of snacks and containers of popcorn ready to grab. I think the reason that most people love watching movies so much is the popcorn and snacks. No, just me? No way! I created a basket full of sweet treats and individual containers of popcorn that the guys could easily grab as they sat down for the movie.

Throwing A Baby Shower For Dad
By
Jessica Tucker
Man Shower, Dadchelor party, or whatever term is most appropriate for the dad-to-be, baby showers for men are becoming the norm for new dads.
Baby showers are synonymous with women getting together to celebrate a mother-to-be and her baby. Fathers are kept out of the loop simply because for decades, women are the ones who were seen to be responsible for taking care of babies when they were born. But now, with more of the responsibility being split between the two, fathers have taken to having baby showers of their own. Though the planning behind throwing a baby shower for dads is much different than that of what it is for women expecting a baby.
Dadchelors or man showers are thrown for men because, according to HuffPost, there is this foreboding theme around parenthood in which once the baby is born parents do not get to have fun for the foreseeable future. As a result, unlike women who have a shower with presents, party games, and well wishes for the baby, men go on weekend trips with the boys for a last night out before the baby is due. And given that there could be multiple friends with babies due in one year, new fathers and fathers-to-be could be spending a lot of time out of the house as a result of the new life coming into it.
RELATED: It’s Okay To Invite Your Male Friends To Your Baby Shower
Here is how to throw a baby shower for dads.
Baby Shower’s For Dads Are Nothing Like Traditional Baby Showers
When it comes to traditional baby showers, the only time that men make an appearance is toward the end of the shower to see what gifts were given to the mother-to-be and the baby and to say hello to friends and family present. They are not the center of attention by any stretch of the imagination.
According to The Bump, men have chosen to put their own spin on baby showers and turn them into male bonding time that can last for anywhere from a day of fun or a long weekend to a week-long trip. The emphasis is not necessarily on the impending baby but instead on the relationships between the men and having a good time. Think of a get-together more akin to a bachelor party than that of a shower.
What Happens At A Baby Shower For Men
via Flickr/Philip Larson
The theme and the size of the man shower are all based upon the personality of the father-to-be. While they all prefer something low-key, the size and grandeur of the shower depend upon whether the men want to have a small, simple day of fun or a party weekend with the boys.
According to Today, many men are initially hesitant to have a Dadchelor Party because they do not want to talk about babies or have a day revolve around them becoming fathers. However, when the soon-to-be dads realize that what they are in store for is nothing like a traditional shower, they get on board fairly quickly.
Per the publication, smaller showers can have things like a beer can and diaper cakes, poker games where the pot includes wipes and diapers, and blindfolded stroller races, and more.
For those who want to go bigger, however, it is not uncommon for a group of male friends to get together and head out for a weekend of fun, where they live it up all because there is the notion that once the men are dads, they will no longer be able to go out with the boys for weekend trips again.
Ideas For Baby Showers
Regardless of whether the man showers are small or a week-long affair, they should match the personality and include the interests of the father-to-be.
According to Babble, some popular ideas for man showers include:
Going to a professional sports game
Spending the weekend at a casino
Camping for the weekend
Going to a concert
Taking in a round or a weekend of golf
For those who want a shower on a smaller scale, other ideas from Pinterest include:
Daddy Baby-Q
Huggies and Chuggies
Beer, Dudes, and Diapers
Pizza, Brew, and Diapers Too
The ideas are endless. But, as can be seen, unlike traditional showers, there is a lot more rambunctiousness and drinking involved when the party is for future dads.
Types Of Gifts Given
By and large, men are not going to be thrilled about getting shower gifts that women would traditionally get at their showers. As such, gifts geared toward the dads-to-be should have a different feel behind them, if that is, there are gifts at all.
According to Parents, when getting a gift for a man shower, funny gifts that revolve around changing diapers are always well received and practical at the same time. Others, such as more manly diaper bags for when dads are in charge of taking care of the babies may be appreciated if the style of the men is known.
However, when the choice to have a weekend-long celebration is made, according to The Bump, there likely are not going to be presents involved. Instead, something such as paying for airfare, cocktails, sports tickets, or the like would be something that all guests can chip in on as a way to celebrate a father-to-be before his baby is born.

Planning a Baby Shower for Dad: Our Top Tips
Do you think baby showers are for moms-to-be?
Think again! Deadchelor parties are all the rage and this guide will show you how to throw the perfect baby shower for dad.
Whether it’s your best friend or relative, this article lists plenty of activity, theme, and food ideas to create an event that the new dad will remember forever. It doesn’t have to be a costly affair, what matters most is the thought you put into the event and that the father-to-be can celebrate this big step surrounded by people who love him.
If you enjoyed this article about baby shower ideas, why not prepare for fatherhood and become a first time dad to read?
Why is dad having a baby shower?
A father’s baby shower (or dad’s party, if you prefer) is basically the same event you throw for a woman having a baby. It’s a celebration of the birth of a new baby with friends and family, food, drinks and gifts!
While these events have traditionally been for women (often dads don’t even attend due to the no-men rule!), the past few years have seen a rise in the baby shower phenomenon for dads. Baby showers Jakc and Jill also became popular. This is a baby shower that both parents enjoy as well as their friends and families. And why not? Moms don’t have to get all the presents, celebrate and make all the kids’ choices! Men should participate equally in the parenting process. Future dads are about to become parents too, and this should be something to celebrate.
Think of a baby shower as a way to support a friend who is about to become a father, to celebrate the changes (pun intended) they are about to undergo. For experienced parents, this can also be a good opportunity to give advice and help! The new dad will love being surrounded by friends and family during this special time.
Last but not least, the baby shower is a great opportunity to relax and celebrate with friends before the new dad spends much more time changing diapers!
Themes
Although a baby shower theme is optional, here are some ideas on ways you can explore to throw the most fun Dadchelor party ever!
Sports theme. Make your event an Olympic style competition with competitive games and medals.
Children’s themed. It’s obvious here, but this theme can include dressing up guests, drinking from bottles, and lots of kid-themed games. You can even make adults wear diapers, for example, over their clothes or on their heads!
B thematic. B for kids, barbecue, beer and bowling! You can also invite guests to dress like they start with B.
Your party doesn’t have to have a theme. Some people choose to spend their weekends with a group of close friends, such as skiing or relaxing in the city. Otherwise, you can turn the Dadchelor Party into a regular group event (golf game, book club, etc.) but make it festive and bring a gift!
Party games
Dad can play lots of fun baby shower games and lots of baby shower games for mom and dad to enjoy together. Below are just a few baby shower ideas you can organize to entertain your party guests. If you’re hosting an Olympic style event as described above, don’t forget to have your medals, podium, or trophy ready!
Let’s start with the classics: children’s gambling. Give each of your guests one dollar they can bet on what they think will be the baby’s weight, date of birth, or gender, for example. After giving birth, give the winner a pot!
The puff of a baby bottle. Fill baby bottles with the drink of your choice (alcoholic or not!) and compete to see who can drink it the fastest.
Don’t say baby. This game consists of banning some obvious words like “baby” and showing courage to anyone who uses them.
Children’s games for speed. This will benefit experienced parents in the crowd, allowing everyone to check on who can get a bottle ready or change a diaper the quickest.
Changing diapers in the dark. Ask each guest to change the doll’s diaper in a dark room as quickly as possible to repeat the baby change in the middle of the night, then laugh as you watch the results! For guests who are not parents, it may be helpful to show a guide on how to change a diaper first.
Wheelchair obstacle course. Line the backyard with chairs, balls, and other obstacles and have two contestants race wheelchairs with dolls inside.
Children’s TV quiz. Prepare some questions about popular children’s TV shows to test the knowledge of future parents!
Interesting questions for dad
The conversation in the baby shower is mostly about one topic: babies. Here are some baby shower questions for dad at the Dadchelor Party. Which of these questions to ask dad for baby shower game ideas do you like best?

For drinks, be sure to provide non-alcoholic drinks such as virgin cocktails or kombucha. Beer and themed cocktails are suitable for alcohol! As a fun addition, you can serve drinks in baby bottles.

Books for parents. Dads never get enough.

8.
Pope online
Author: Philippe de Kemmeter
The technological process has greatly facilitated the lives of people, at the same time alienating them from each other. Children spend time on the phone from morning to night, and parents do not lag behind: they are interested in the affairs of friends on the pages in social networks with more enthusiasm than the leisure, development and hobbies of their own sons and daughters. Papa penguin, the hero of Philippe de Kemmeter’s colorful book, is one of those parents. He is so absorbed in the virtual world that he stopped spending time with his family a long time ago. But one day something went wrong, and the penguin found himself alone on an ice floe, taking him into a huge bottomless ocean…

Reading such a wonderful book, every parent will understand how much his child loves, and how desperately he needs at least a modicum of daddy’s attention.

After a little thought, the kid understands that winning the school competitions will surely cope with this task. But there are many worthy rivals around, and it will not be so easy to take first place. Anyone who reads the world bestseller of children’s writer Rob Scotton will no longer be able to part with the kitten Shmyak – a cheerful, quick-witted and incredibly kind character.
11. Dad is near
Author: Sush
A few years ago, cute illustrations by the artist SUSH spread all over the Internet and became truly viral. The time has come, and SUSh decided to collect and combine her drawings into a book that children and adults can now read. Its main characters are a big, kind dad and his glorious daughter. Together they never feel sad: they play puppet theater, cook delicious food, read under the table, and draw on the wallpaper, leaving important marks as a keepsake. The book will definitely appeal to all readers without exception, because in each of us there lives a child who is selflessly loved by the main friend, savior, interlocutor, the most important person in life – PAPA.
12. I am raising my father
Author: Mikhail Baranovsky
What is silence? Where does the soul live and what to expect from Santa Claus? – These and a thousand other questions are asked by the curious Marik to his dad. Dad listens patiently and finds answers to all questions. The book by Mikhail Baranovsky was written based on the author’s relationship with his own son. It consists of several stories and is very easy to read, thanks to the simple style of presentation and a huge number of humorous moments, remarkably subtly noticed by the writer.
13. The best dad

Author: Anna Kardashova
Papa is the whole world for little Mariasha. He is kind, attentive, sympathetic, but most importantly, he is a real magician. With his brush, dad paints gray everyday life in bright colors. Multi-colored worlds come to life on the canvas, which the girl likes to travel so much. The kind and touching story of Anna Kudryashova was written back in the 70s of the last century, but both adults and children still like it.

Once an agreement has been confirmed between parent/guardian and myself, I
intend to closely monitor the development of the child or children in care. I will properly document their progression by age and byprinting out and documenting the progress and milestones of the child. I will also will provide the parent a copy with my findings, accomplishments and areas of growth to make sure steady progression of the child’s mental and physical capabilities are on pace.
I will also ensure that proper care, hygiene, mental stimulation, and nutritional
needs are being met. All of these points are vital for a healthy upbringing in general and while the child is in my care. Of course these good habits will also need to mirror the expectations I set aside for each child at home as well. Each child is their own individual and has their own milestones they will accomplish. Some are going to achieve those faster or slower than others, nevertheless as I am with the child the majority of the day I and overseeing the development at a constant level.
For older school aged children I will assist them with their development by making
sure they’re completing homework in the evenings. I will provide as much guidance as I can. I will also provide snacks and juice/ water as well. They will be able to physically go outside and play amongst different age groups of children which is also mentally stimulating and engaging for them as well.
I intend on dedicating allotted time to teach curriculum for my toddlers and
pre k students. I know not every home daycare focuses on teaching, but with my center I plan on doing exactly that. This is why I am able to operate to my capacity because I intend on giving quality work. My infants will have tummy time, songs, white noise, soft toys, and being able to sit amongst toddlers to watch them play.
I have been in the family daycare business since I could remember at the age of 4. My mom has operated her own business for over 15 years +. I know the business, what keeps the child and parent happy, but the one missing piece was motherly instinct. Now that I’m a mother of two I would say I’m a pro. To do this for a living doesn’t feel like a job, it feels like a calling. I honestly am honored and truly excited to start this journey….

Mechanical engineer: job description :: SYL.ru
Who is a mechanical engineer? It would seem a simple question, but still few can give an exhaustive answer to it. What is it connected with? Everything is quite simple: the profession of a mechanical engineer is multifaceted, which gives rise to some kind of misunderstanding. After all, a specialist in this field can work both at service stations and in the production of children’s toys.
Therefore, in order to remove all the curtains and myths about this profession, we will analyze its components and analyze them separately.
Mechanical engineer: the essence of the profession
The world is steadily moving forward. Every day there are new mechanisms and devices that can make life easier for people. But who is behind all this? That’s right, a mechanical engineer. The job of this specialist is to design new mechanisms. It is engineers who are the force that drives progress, forcing the world to change. But their duties do not end there.
The developed technique must be constantly monitored, because without proper adjustment and timely maintenance, the mechanisms quickly break down. This can lead to unwanted problems, and sometimes even endanger a person’s life. Therefore, in any production there is a mechanical engineer who is responsible for its technical component.
Unfortunately, any machine breaks down sooner or later, no matter how carefully it was treated. And for its repair, again, the help of a mechanic is needed. Only he will be able to determine the cause of the breakdown, and then offer possible ways to fix it.
Where to get an education?
To obtain a degree in mechanical engineering, you need to graduate from a higher educational institution. You can enter there after 11 classes, or after studying at a technical school. Mathematics and physics are compulsory subjects, therefore, upon admission, you will need to pass exams in them.
But first, future specialists must choose a direction for study and only then look for a suitable university. So, in some institutions you can get the profession of an engineer-mechanic of vehicles, and in others – a specialist in the design of hydrological equipment. Therefore, before making a final decision, you should think carefully. After all, the future place of work will depend on the choice made.
What qualities should a future specialist have?
Now let’s talk about the qualities that a mechanical engineer should have.
Love for the exact sciences. Mathematics, physics, drawing – these disciplines will accompany the mechanic throughout his career. And only by having a passion for them, you can become a real professional, looking forward to a new working day.
A certain mindset. Naturally, an engineer must have good analytical skills in order to calculate all the formulas. But do not forget about creativity, because it was thanks to it that the world saw many new inventions.
Excellent memory. A good specialist must store a lot of information in his head, otherwise he cannot avoid professional mistakes.
Endurance and patience. Hours spent creating schemes, nightly calls to the enterprise due to another breakdown, a long search for its cause – all these are the usual everyday life of a mechanical engineer.
Sociability. A mechanical engineer is a managerial position, he has mechanics, electricians, turners and so on. Given this, a person of this profession should be able to competently distribute duties between workers, as well as be a worthy example for them.
As for the rest, the requirements for candidates for this position may vary depending on the type of production.
How to get a promising position?
Mechanical engineer is a job that requires maximum dedication, and this must be remembered, regardless of the chosen direction. As for the most promising vacancies associated with this profession, here we can single out the top three:
1. Oil industry. Everything related to oil promises good earnings, so if a mechanical engineer can guarantee the serviceability of equipment in such a production, then he has nothing to worry about the salary.
2. Design office. A position in such an institution is perfect for someone who wants to create new mechanisms and devices. True, the amount of payment here directly depends on how many inventions the engineer will have on his account.
3. Construction companies. Modern construction takes place in a semi-automated mode, therefore, a person is needed who will monitor the health of all mechanisms.
As for other areas, the salary there is also at the proper level, because a mechanical engineer is a very valuable employee. To a greater extent, everything will depend on the region in which the specialist lives, as well as on the size of the organization.

Teacher and writer Rustam Kurbatov about modern education — Realnoe Vremya
Society
07:00, 06/03/2018
Plot: Realnoe Vremya Reading Room
Teacher Rustam Kurbatov on how not to waste a child’s ten school years
What has changed in the Russian school over the past three decades? How did computers and Wikipedia affect teacher-student relationships? What should be the ideal modern school? These and other questions of Realnoe Vremya were answered by Rustam Kurbatov, the founder and director of one of the first private schools in Russia, Kovcheg-XXI, a teacher and author of popular books.
“The school is the same as it was 35 years ago. Unfortunately”
— Rustam, the school seems to have changed a lot over the past few decades. Unified exam, computers, competitiveness. But is it changing in the right direction?
— I think that the school does not change. All the changes in schools over the past 20 years are like ripples on the surface of the water. If you put your hand on your heart, the changes came only from the technical side. Yes, computers have penetrated the school, but nothing has changed in the content compared to the time when I studied (and this is 35 years ago). The same classes, the same children who sit at desks of two people and listen to the teacher, the same teacher who stands at the blackboard – it doesn’t matter if it’s wooden or interactive.
At the heart of the modern school is the idea that you just need to pass on knowledge. The school is presented as a kind of mechanism for pumping gigabytes of information from one head to another. And nothing better has been invented here than a class-lesson system or an administrative-explanatory method, when the teacher says something, tells, explains, demonstrates on the blackboard or on the computer, and then asks how the students learned it, and the best way to survey is a test, oral or written. That is, the school is a very conservative, stable, even motionless social mechanism that somehow survives all attempts to transform it, all modernizations, innovations, reforms and other projects and paradigms.
— And this prompted you to create a private lyceum “Ark- XXI”?
– It reminds me of a conversation with a psychiatrist ( laughs ). There are people who are sick of the school, who once ambitiously and extravagantly wanted to change the school, to make it better. And this dream haunts them.
— The question is what is a good school.
– The answers can be very different. But in general there are two options. The first is a very correct school, where they teach correctly. And the highest example of such a school is the elite educational institutions of selected teachers and children. This is a school that largely repeats the classical model, nothing changes there in terms of pedagogy, just very good people work there, so information is transferred effectively. The second option is a child-centered school, where the student himself is at the center of the process, and we begin to do something so that there are good conditions for his development, so that he is free. This is different. And I’m interested in the second idea.
There are people who are sick of school, who once ambitiously and extravagantly wanted to change the school, to make it better. And this dream haunts them
— Can you tell us more about it?
— I wanted our school to have less cramming, what we call scholasticism, meaningless repetition of the same thing, so that it would be possible to think independently, so that knowledge would not be passed on in finished form. I wanted the children not to sleep during the lesson, to be able to move and talk. Do not just listen to how the teacher solves problems, but solve them yourself.
I am not a supporter of the leftist idea that a child’s life in school should be no different from a child’s life outside of it. But I wanted teaching for children to make sense. Because now the general impression of children from a mass school is that there is no point in it. Is everything simple? how are the robots? they perform some kind of mechanical operations – and teachers, and children, and parents, everyone performs certain rituals, but no one understands why this is necessary, and no one experiences any spiritual feelings. With us, if a student writes a letter, he knows that there is a certain addressee who will read this letter. If he does some project in biology, then he will speak to the students of another class.
The student must understand that work has some meaning for him. This is especially important for teenagers. Small children are ready to do whatever they are told, at least in the first and second school years, just from the joy that they are in the team, that there is a teacher who can look at them, praise them. But teenagers do not study at all, because meaningfulness is important to them.
I may be saying banal things, but a child deserves more than just sitting at a desk and cramming. After all, school years are the brightest, this is the best time when a person is formed, when he is receptive, open, most sensitive to the world. Therefore, it is very sad when these years turn, if not into hard labor, then into monotonous sitting.
“At our lessons, a student can talk to a neighbor, walk around the class, read, write, ask questions”
— What of your wishes did you manage to implement in your school?
— You see, all the teachers in both experimental and public schools are sure that they love children. Because we are all normal people. Therefore, our task was not to establish any special relationship based on love and cooperation, but to solve purely organizational and methodological issues. Is there an alternative to boring lessons? Yes there is. And in our elementary school, most of the lessons are activities. This is not really a lesson, it is sometimes individual, sometimes collective work, during which the student can talk with a neighbor, walk around the class, read, write, ask questions. Children do not get tired during such lessons. When I, as a director, come to such a lesson, I do not feel sorry for the children. At the same time, it is difficult for me to sit even 10 minutes in a traditional lesson, to say nothing of children, for whom this is generally unnatural. But the lesson where the children are working, you can sit through to the end. Because nobody got tired of school work yet, they get tired of school idleness.
The second most important point is that children understand that their learning has some meaning both in form and in substance. If we learn English, then we shoot a film in English. Moreover, from grades 1 to 11, films evolve from simple scenes to real director’s work. Also, the school must answer the important worldview questions that the child sets for himself. Anything is taught in schools – the laws of oil refining, the laws of heredity, and the repressions of the interim government. But they do not answer the questions that the child faces in life – philosophical ones. And this should also be.
Is there an alternative to boring lessons? Yes there is. And in our elementary school, most of the lessons are activities
— And what is your assessment system? Do your parents also expect good grades from their children?
— It’s a myth that parents want grades. In fact, they want results. And if we find other forms to say about the result of the work, then we can do without evaluations. In elementary school we work without them at all, and in high school we rarely put them on, but aptly.
Right now leftist radical pedagogy has become very popular in Russia — people say that they won’t have lessons, classes, grades in their schools. That is, everything is canceled and children study without any system. But that’s not possible. These are adult games. So what have we done by abolishing the five-point grade in elementary school? Entered a list of tasks that the student performs during the week. And when he shows us his work, we say “yes” or “no”, whether it is accepted or not. Actually, adults work in exactly the same way: if the customer likes their work, they accept it; if not, it needs to be redone. This is a business approach, and we introduced it.
“The slogan “Let’s study only what is useful to us in life!” — also extreme”
— Often, when complaining about our schooling, critics talk about the separation of theory from practice. The student studies various subjects, but does not understand how all this applies to his life. How do you assess this problem and how do you solve it in your school?
— On the one hand, you are right. We study different things at school, but we don’t understand, roughly speaking, why you can’t put your finger into the socket, what electric current is and how it works. Therefore, the first trend of modern Russian pedagogy is to rely on the interests of the child, to build on experience. Today this is a very popular thing among both parents and teachers, and how children support it! They all say: “Let’s do what is useful to us in life!”. This is a revolutionary slogan. “We will study physics and chemistry, which we encounter in everyday life. In history, we are mainly interested in modern processes. At the lessons of literature, we will not analyze literary works, but we will talk about our own opinion. It all goes under the sign of reliance on experience. And in general, this is probably correct, because in our country the school has always been scholastic and divorced from experience: life is in itself, and knowledge is in itself.
But, on the other hand, I cannot completely share this approach, because there is some danger in it. This is extreme. One must be able to combine practical orientation, reliance on experience and theoretical thinking, and the ability to answer worldview questions. Yes, we will teach children how to repair a socket and screw a light bulb, they will learn what the washing powder consists of in chemistry lessons – but some things are beyond the scope of experience. In our experience, we never encounter atoms, or photons, or even electrical waves.
Therefore, modern education, on the one hand, should be kind of practical. And on the other hand, philosophy should be the main subject, because we do not understand where our Universe came from, we do not understand anything in human evolution, we cannot assume anything about the future of mankind. There are so many questions that it is impossible to reduce everything only to experience.
— When creating your school, did you rely on someone else’s experience?
– This is an important question. For 25 years I have been thinking about whether another school was born from a regular school. School is a vicious circle. When you are inside, stewing in this brine, it is difficult to get out of it. Therefore, apparently, there must be some kind of sample, there must be an idea. There is an idea – there is a school. Without an idea that comes from outside, a school cannot be made. Because we will repeat ourselves, based on stereotypes of behavior. So what happened at 90 years? There was an attempt at a creative humane pedagogy, a pedagogy of cooperation. It was a powerful impulse of the early 90s. Many teachers were inspired and fascinated by the idea of another school, where the child will be interested, where his abilities will be revealed, where there is no endless repetition, violence. All the 1990s passed under the sign of the pedagogy of cooperation in our country.
“R A child deserves more than just sitting at a desk and cramming. After all, school years are the brightest e, this is the best time when a person is formed, when he is receptive, open, most sensitive to the world. Photo covcheg.org
In the West, by the way, the pedagogy of cooperation arose at the beginning of the 20th century. That is, we are late by almost a hundred years. And there, of course, the ideas of Montessori, Frenet, Dewey were actively developed. I was very inspired by Celestin Frenet, a French teacher who revolutionized the school. He brought a printing press to school, and the children themselves began to print on it. What was this machine? Two sheets of A3 format, which fit on the desk, and letter letters. Children who used to write in notebooks began to type their texts with these letters. They began to write not for the teacher, but for other people – they printed these letters and discussed them all together. And then – and group work, and individual tasks. This is a child-oriented school, where the person is above all, and not some norms and standards.
“The school is now in such a sad state that only lazy people do not scold it”
— But, in your own words from one note in the press — “why the school, when everywhere you get Wi-Fi, there is Wikipedia” ?
— The school is in such a sad state now that only lazy people do not scold it. And more and more among the parents of those who transfer their children to home schooling, saying: “We will not take them to school, they will learn everything themselves with the help of a computer.” Yes, this is a stable trend of modern education. In part, I support these people, because it is a pity to give ten years of a child into the void. I’m not even talking about the barracks of the school – it’s sad from thoughtlessness, from the fact that these ten years will be just dead time.
Therefore, going to extremes, people say that they don’t need a teacher. We understand that this is coming – artificial intelligence will soon conquer all of us. But where are the limits of artificial intelligence? A student alone with a computer or with a book will be able to read, learn, tell, but he will not be able to put a question alone. While the most important thing in learning is the key moment – to be able to be surprised, doubt, ask a question. And this is possible only in a conversation with another person. You can learn all of Shakespeare and a foreign language with the help of a computer. But you need an interlocutor to ask good provocative questions. And only in this sense can the modern school justify itself. The transfer of knowledge through a computer is better than through a teacher. A computer has beaten a person in chess, in go, and a computer can transfer knowledge much better than any person. But he does not know how to doubt. And this is necessary. In general, modern education is conceived not in the form of ready-made answers, but rather in the form of questions that a person puts in his mind. It is desirable that a graduate of the school be puzzled, surprised, so that he comes out with a huge list of misunderstandings and a desire to comprehend this world all his life. I think this is education.
— The first robot teachers are already being tested in Finland, the advantage of which over human teachers is that they do not get tired and cannot be pissed off. But after all, a teacher is not only a transmitter of knowledge, in our history the teacher was also an example of morality. The students went to the class teacher throughout their lives…
— Like a priest… It seems to me that this is such a nostalgic picture. Departing nature. The subject of nostalgia is mainly for district teachers: they say, there were times … But we must understand that these are memories of the era when the teacher and the doctor were the only educated people in the village. But this will never happen again. Therefore, you can regret and shed a tear as much as you like, but it seems to me that this is unworthy of a real teacher. We understand that indeed, through the Internet, a child can learn everything he wants in two seconds, which he used to learn in months. And the child uses the same computer much better than the teacher. Therefore, we will not sob. This former state, when they approached and said “Mr. Teacher …”, will not be. It is high time to get off the pedestal, otherwise we will all grow moss. This nature is gone, these are the Middle Ages. The teacher should not think about his status, but about who he can be for a teenager today.
As for the moral ideal, this question is not discussed at all. Some things are indecent to talk about. Of course, if the teacher is not a very good person, he should leave the school.
You can learn all of Shakespeare and a foreign language with the help of a computer. But you need an interlocutor to ask good provocative questions. And only in this sense can a modern school justify itself
— But why doesn’t the teaching profession enjoy the same respect and honor in society as it did fifty years ago?
— It seems to me that teachers should stop thinking about respect and authority. Because authority today can no longer be status – simply because you are a teacher. The authority remains, but it is no longer the authority of power (I mean here not only political power, but also the power of knowledge, which Michel Foucault spoke of). There used to be some people who knew something that others didn’t. And this allowed them to control and manipulate people.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, central to our educational philosophy is the belief that secure relationships with responsive and respectful adults provide the basis for all learning. Staff and teachers, and the relationships children develop with them, are vital for learning, for trust, and for independence. Our approach is designed to help them grow as students and people, in school, and in life beyond. And that trust extends beyond the classroom.
Our entire school is designed to ensure that your child’s safety and security remain our top priority. And communication is essential. With regular updates (including many photos) of your child’s experiences, you can feel comfortable that you are sharing this journey – every step of the way.

News – What all parents should know about children’s water safety
Where can a child drown?
Anywhere. This does not always happen in deep waters. When the author of this article was doing residency in the Department of Pediatric Orthopedics and Traumatology, the head of the department, a doctor with vast experience, often repeated the phrase: “A small child can drown even in a glass.”
If there is enough water in a container for a child to dip his face in, it is already dangerous. First of all, this applies to the age of 1-4 years. Babies drown in buckets, basins, puddles, garden barrels, and even in pet drinkers. If in a pool of water a child is only chest or waist-deep, he can still drown. There are cases when unattended school-age children drowned in the bath, although there was just nothing there.
How do you know if a child is drowning?
First of all, forget the shots from Hollywood films.
The child does not flounder or scream, he just drowns quietly and quickly, usually within 30 seconds.
All efforts of the respiratory system are aimed at getting a breath of oxygen, so there will be no loud screams. Instead of waving his arms, a drowning person tries to push them off, from the outside it looks like a game.
Often, when a child drowns, the parents are very close and do not understand that the baby needs help. This is impossible to understand if you do not know what drowning really looks like. Remember the main signs.
Mouth at or below water level, or wide open with head thrown back.
“Glass”, “empty” look.
The legs are usually not visible because the drowning person’s body is in a vertical position.
The child’s hair falls on his face, eyes, and he does not try to brush it off.
The child tries to swim in a certain direction, but remains in place.
The child tries to roll over on his back, but he fails.
If you do not understand whether the child is drowning or just playing, ask him if everything is all right. Doesn’t answer?
No time to think: quickly pull him out of the water.
The main security measure is constant supervision
Children who are left without supervision most often drown. Even if there are many adults near the pond, this still does not guarantee safety. Firstly, not all people know the signs that a child is drowning. They can stand nearby and calmly watch how the baby “plays” in the water.
Secondly, when there are many adults, everyone and at the same time no one is watching the children. Everyone hopes for the others.
Therefore, rule number one: at least one adult should be nearby, in the water, and only look after the child. You can’t be distracted by anything. Five seconds to view messages on the phone – and the tragedy has already happened.
Even if the child can swim, one of the adults should be nearby. If there are several children in the pond, they need to be introduced to each other and explained that everyone should periodically check if his friends are nearby, if everything is in order. The child must clearly know the rules of behavior near water bodies and the pool.
Teach your child to swim
Parents decide at what age to start. Better immediately, as soon as you feel that your child has matured psychologically and physically. You can teach him to swim on your own, but it is better to enroll in a special section where a professional instructor will work with him.
Use a vest and sleeves
Special vests and sleeves can save your child’s life. It is mandatory to use them, but you should not rely on them completely. The first step is constant supervision.
Learn first aid in advance
Rescuer, first aid expert Vitaly Kuznetsov:
First, thing to note: the moment when you have a lifeless child in front of you is not the best time to learn how to provide first aid. It is almost impossible to carry out effective resuscitation on a whim.
Trouble does not come according to schedule. But the courses are held regularly.
There are many of them – for every taste and budget, up to free ones. Of course, there is always the hope of remembering what you accidentally read or saw.
For example, 10-year-old Jacob O’Connor from Roseville, Michigan, rescued his 2-year-old brother from drowning in a pool by mimicking his favorite action movie hero. But such self-control is the exception, not the rule, you should not count on it, so we are preparing in advance.
Second.
Remember to gently but firmly remind children of the responsibility of open water.
According to the statistics given by the Lisa Alert squad, drowning is the main cause of death among lost children. 8 out of 10 dead drown, it is the caution in approaching the water that can save the life of a child. Sooner or later, the child will end up on the shore of the reservoir without you. It’s better if he’s ready for it.
Third.
Be sure to wear life jackets for all walks and other activities on the water.

Why does Turgenev’s novel begin on May 20, 1859? Where did the author borrow Bazarov’s views from? Why are we told about the fatal love of Pavel Petrovich and the ring with the sphinx? Answers to these and other questions are in the new issue of the column about the secrets of great books
Author Alexey Vdovin
1. The mystery of the first phrase of the novel
In the first phrase of Fathers and Sons, Turgenev accurately names the date of the beginning of the novel:
“What, Pyotr, can’t you see yet? – Asked on May 20, 1859, going out without a hat on the low porch of an inn on the *** highway, a gentleman of about forty years old . .. “
Why 20 May 1859? We would never know the exact answer if the draft manuscript of the novel had not been found The history of the study of “Fathers and Sons” is like a detective story. The draft manuscript of the novel was considered lost until in the middle of 19In the 1980s, the English antiquary Lord Parmur did not find it in Paris and did not report this sensational find to Academician D.S. Likhachev. He did everything to redeem the manuscript, which was almost put up for auction at Sotheby’s. Likhachev managed to convince the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR N. I. Ryzhkov to find 400 thousand pounds sterling, and the unique autograph finally ended up in the Pushkin House in St. Petersburg, where it is still kept .. It turned out that at first Turgenev dated the arrival of Arkady and Bazarov to the Kirsanov estate 25 May. This very day 1859of the year was remembered by Turgenev by his meeting with his old friend Herzen in London after a long break. The friends were most likely discussing the famous article by the London émigré “Very dangerous!!!” directed against the views of Dobrolyubov and Chernyshevsky, two young radical critics of the Sovremennik magazine, and published in Kolokol on June 1.
Herzen’s article “Very dangerous!!!”. 1859 From the publication “The Bell. The first decade 1857-1867, London, Geneva, 1867
On that day, Turgenev appeared at Herzen’s house not alone, but with his younger friend and protégé, Elisey Kolbasin, also an employee of Sovremennik. It can be assumed that the conversation between Herzen, Turgenev and Kolbasin revolved around the conflict that flared up between the “fathers” (Herzen and Turgenev who took his side) and the “children” (Chernyshevsky and Dobrolyubov). Later, polishing the text, Turgenev decided, apparently, to abandon the overly straightforward allusion to the date of publication of Herzen’s article in order to remove possible projections and allusions.
2. The secret of Bazarov’s complexes
The protagonist of the novel Bazarov tells his friend Arkady and readers about his origin:
“- A good duchess,” Arkady objected, “from the first time she invited such strong aristocrats as we are with you. – Especially me, the future doctor, and the doctor’s son, and the deacon’s grandson … You know that I am the deacon’s grandson? ..
“Like Speransky,” Bazarov added after a short silence and twisted his lips.
In the preparatory materials for the novel, Bazarov’s genealogy was designated even more extensively: “the son of a doctor, who himself was the son of a priest.” Why did Turgenev give the hero such a social origin?
This decision is deeply logical: it is typical of the biographies of many doctors of the 19th century. The medical profession was perceived as unworthy of a nobleman. As a rule, children of the clergy (small and medium) became doctors in the 1850s. Graduates of theological seminaries often went to medical faculties for various reasons – some out of a desire to serve the common people, some because of the quota of the government, which specially recruited seminarians to fill empty due to lack of space in medical faculties. Bazarov’s father, Vasily Ivanovich, “was a strong Latinist,” that is, he did well in his time in Latin, apparently thanks to his seminary training, but then he served in the army and became a nobleman.
However, with the origin of Bazarov Sr. and the attitude of his son towards him in the novel, not everything is so simple. The researchers found that in a conversation about himself, Bazarov self-irically uses the aristocratic name “doctor”, looking at himself from the side, while other heroes of the novel call this profession “doctor” (or “doctor”). All this gives reason to suspect Bazarov of a social inferiority complex, which, judging by Turgenev’s hints, makes the hero return to this topic all the time and painfully beat it in conversations with the noblemen Kirsanovs. The integrity of Bazarov’s personality is thus in doubt.
3. Bazarov’s secret
Evgeny Bazarov informs Arkady that he has an angel’s day:
“Congratulate me,” Bazarov suddenly exclaimed, “today is the twenty-second of June, my angel’s day. Let’s see how he cares about me somehow. Today they are waiting for me at home,” he added, lowering his voice… “Well, they’ll wait, what’s the importance!”
However, researchers recently found out that Bazarov’s words do not correspond to reality: June 22 is the memorial day of the Hieromartyr Eusebius of Samosata, and Eugene is celebrated in winter and in March. What is it – a lie of Bazarov or an oversight of the author?
The most plausible explanation for this discrepancy is an accidental mistake by Turgenev, who probably checked the month-word for 1858 and 1859, where the day of Eugene of Samosata was erroneously indicated under the date June 22, and in the alphabetical list of saints at the end near Eusebius was the date June 22 . Another version – that Bazarov was baptized as Eusebius, but pious parents called him Enyusha (Zhenya) – seems unconvincing.
4. The Mystery of the Sphinx
Turgenev tells us the biography of Pavel Petrovich, and in particular talks about his fatal passion for a certain princess R. The lover gave the princess a ring with a sphinx – a symbol of mystery; the princess dies and before her death returns the gift:
“… he received a package addressed to him: it contained the ring he had given to the princess. She drew a cruciform line on the sphinx and told him to say that the cross is the key.
And yet, what is the key to the sphinx? To answer this question, let’s first ask it a little more broadly: why did Turgenev need the plot itself with Pavel Petrovich’s past love?
The fact is that, telling the story of Pavel Petrovich and Bazarov in parallel, pushing the antagonist heroes together, Turgenev hints that they clash not only because they belong to two different generations and two conflicting political camps, but also because in they have a lot in common. They are doubles, their characters are “mirrored” with the help of a whole system of doublet motives: both follow strict life principles, both have love failures that turn into psychological trauma, both cast loving glances at Fenechka, and, finally, both worship a fetish – each to his own.
Pavel Petrovich’s fetish is the ideal of Nelly R. fatal and with a “mysterious look”. He did not get rid of the passion for the dead princess, continuing to look for her image in women, and in an incomprehensible way found it in Fenechka.
Bazarov, studying the anatomy of the eye, does not believe in the “mysterious look”, but worships a different fetish – belief in his usefulness to the Russian peasant, who in fact does not understand him and takes him for a “pea jester”. Although in the novel the word “sphinx” is not put into the mouth of Bazarov, his attitude towards the people is conveyed through another ornate comparison with the mystical characters of Anna Ratcliffe’s gothic novels: “The Russian peasant is the same mysterious stranger that Mrs. Ratcliffe once talked so much about. Who will understand him? He doesn’t understand himself.” In 1862, in a letter to Pavel Annenkov, Turgenev already directly likened the Russian people to the “Sphinx”, and in 1878 he even composed a prose poem “The Sphinx” – exactly about this.
5. The mystery of Bazarov’s worldview
Nihilist Bazarov ponders:
“But I’m thinking: I’m lying here under a haystack… The narrow place that I occupy is so tiny in comparison with the rest of the space where I’m not there and where I don’t care; and the part of the time that I will be able to live is so insignificant before eternity, where I was not and will not be… And in this atom, in this mathematical point, the blood circulates, the brain works, it also wants something… What a disgrace! What nonsense!”
Everyone remembers well the materialistic views of Bazarov: the hero denies romanticism, religion, emphasizes the priority of sensations and reflexes, advises Nikolai Petrovich to read the then fashionable book “Matter and Force”. But what is nihilistic in his thoughts under the hay?!
Blaise Pascal. Engraving by Gerard Edelink. XVII century Bibliothèque nationale de France
Turgenev borrowed the hero’s materialistic views from the articles of Chernyshevsky, Dobrolyubov and partly Belinsky. But researchers have found that his reflections under the haystack have a completely different source: it is the skeptical philosophy of Blaise Pascal (whom the writer admired). Bazarov’s heartfelt monologue goes back to the following passage from Pascal’s “Thoughts”:
“I see these terrifying spaces of the universe that enclose me in themselves, I feel tied to one corner of this vast world, not knowing why I am placed in this and not another place, why the short time that is given to me to live assigned to me precisely at this, and not at another point in the whole eternity that preceded me and that follows me. From all sides I see only infinities that enclose me like an atom… All that I am aware of is only that I must die soon…” Quoted in P. D. Pervov’s translation of 1888.
It turns out that, in describing the views of Bazarov, Turgenev mixed in with the materialism of Chernyshevsky and Dobrolyubov a completely different philosophy from the venerable European tradition. It is obvious that with this and other philosophizing, after the outbreak of passion for Odintsova, Bazarov partly refutes himself – his complete denial of the spiritual and metaphysical side of life.
6. The mystery of Bazarov’s delirium
Bazarov dies, and his dying words are interrupted by delirium:
“Russia needs me… No, apparently not. And who is needed? A shoemaker is needed, a tailor is needed, a butcher … sells meat … a butcher … wait, I’m confused … There is a forest … “
What does the forest have to do with it? It is clear that you can’t say such things in delirium, but this is not real nonsense, but literary nonsense, which means there must be a clue.
And here it is: the forest in Bazarov’s delirium – from his own previous words. In the XVI chapter, in a dispute with Odintsova, the hero eloquently defends, as it seems to him, a scientific, correct view of a person, in which the individual psyche now plays no role:
“. .. It is not worth the trouble to study individuals. All people are similar to each other both in body and soul; each of us has a brain, spleen, heart, and lungs the same way; and the so-called moral qualities are the same for everyone: small modifications mean nothing. One human specimen is enough to judge all others. People are like trees in the forest; no botanist will deal with every single birch.”
Disagreeing with Bazarov, Odintsova thoughtfully repeats the phrase “trees in the forest” after him. The more the hero falls in love with Anna Sergeevna, the more romanticism he discovers in himself and the more angry he becomes with his weakness. It is at these moments that some force draws Bazarov into the same forest: “Then he went into the forest and walked along it with long steps, breaking the branches that came across and scolding both her and himself in an undertone” Chapter XVII ..
Finally, it finally becomes clear that the forest is a symbol and an important motif of the novel, when in a dream, before a duel with Pavel Petrovich, he appears to Bazarov as “a big forest with which he still had to fight” Chapter XXIV . .
The circle closes : the forest, consisting of many trees, turns into a symbol not just of a single person (Odintsova or Pavel Petrovich), who resists the hero, but also of the bottomless human psyche, the subconscious, which Bazarov strives for, but cannot comprehend, because he does not understand, why study them separately. That is why, before his death, Turgenev makes him see the forest again – this symbol of the unknowability of an alien soul. After all, according to the Russian proverb, a foreign soul is a dark forest.
“Three days later, Bazarov went into his father’s room and asked if he had a hellish stone?
– There is; what do you need?
– You need to… cauterize the wound.
– To whom?
– To yourself.
– How, yourself! Why is this? What is this wound? Where’s she?
– Right here, on the finger. Today I went to the village, you know, where the typhoid peasant was brought from. For some reason they were going to open it, but I haven’t practiced this for a long time.
– Well?
– Well, so I asked the county doctor; well, he cut himself.”
Why does Bazarov die like this? This memorable detail opens the way to answering one of the main questions for Turgenevologists – who exactly was the prototype of Bazarov. There are several answers to this question, and many of the prototypes are related to healing and fighting epidemics.
After the novel was published in 1862, Turgenev mentioned one of the prototypes – a provincial doctor Dmitriev, an accidental fellow traveler who told the writer in the Petersburg-Moscow train car about some new means of combating anthrax. Very soon, Turgenev learned that Dmitriev had died, which, obviously, influenced the formation of the finale of the novel with the death of the hero.
Disputes about other prototypes of the protagonist did not subside for more than a hundred years, until in 1984 Patrick Waddington published Turgenev’s notebook with preparatory materials for the novel, kept in a private Parisian archive. It turned out that when conceived of the main character in the summer of 1860, Turgenev kept in mind “a mixture of Dobrolyubov, Pavlov and Preobrazhensky.” If contemporaries immediately discerned the features of the famous critic Nikolai Dobrolyubov and broke many copies on this score, reproaching the writer for malicious irony in relation to the author of the article “The Dark Kingdom”, who died in 1861, then no one guessed about the other persons mentioned. Ivan Vasilyevich Pavlov, a doctor, writer, acquaintance and neighbor of Turgenev in Spassky-Lutovinov, was sharp-tongued and famous for his harsh judgments about literature, which was useful to the writer. Finally, Vasily Grigoryevich Preobrazhensky, a young zemstvo doctor and the son of the writer’s brother managing the estates, could be remembered by Turgenev for his selfless fight against cholera, which broke out in the neighboring Spassky district in 1855 and terrified the writer.
Finally, the surname Bazarov itself was well known in the late 1850s – in Tula, Ioann Grigoryevich Bazarov was a professor at the Theological Academy, and his son, Ioann Ioannovich, from 1844 was a priest of the Russian Church in Frankfurt am Main and the confessor of his daughter one of the great princes. In 1869, Turgenev met him personally in Stuttgart.

Peasant children – Nekrasov.
Full text of the poem – Peasant children
Again I am in the village. I go hunting, I write my verses – life is easy. Yesterday, tired of walking in the swamp, I wandered into the barn and fell deeply asleep. Woke up: in the wide cracks of the barn Rays of cheerful sun look. A dove is cooing; flying over the roof, Young rooks cry; Some other bird is also flying – I recognized the crow just by the shadow; Chu! some whisper… and here is a string Along the slit of attentive eyes! All gray, brown, blue eyes – Mixed like flowers in a field. They have so much peace, freedom and affection, They have so much holy kindness! I love the expression of a child’s eye, I always recognize it. I froze: tenderness touched my soul… Chu! whisper again!

My spies were frightened And they rushed away: they heard a man, So sparrows fly in a flock from the chaff. I calmed down, squinted – they appeared again, Little eyes flicker through the cracks. What happened to me – they marveled at everything And they pronounced my sentence: – What a goose like that! I would lie on my stove! And apparently not a gentleman: how he was driving from the swamp, So next to Gavrila . .. – “Hear, be silent!”
O dear rascals! Who often saw them, He, I believe, loves peasant children; But even if you hated them, Reader, as “a low kind of people”, – I still must confess openly, That I often envy them: So much poetry has been merged in their life, How, God forbid, spoiled children yours. Happy people! Neither science, nor bliss They do not know in childhood. I made mushroom raids with them: I dug up the leaves, ransacked the stumps,0048 And in the morning I couldn’t find anything. “Look, Savosya, what a ring!” We both bent down, and at the same time grab the Snake! I jumped: it hurt! Savosya laughs: “Caught for nothing!” But then we ruined them pretty much And put them in a row on the railing of the bridge. We must have been waiting for the feats of glory. We had a big road: People of working rank scurried Along it without a number. Vologda ditch digger, Tinker, tailor, wool beater, And then a citizen of the city On the eve of the holiday, he rolls to pray. Under our thick ancient elms Tired people were drawn to rest. The guys will surround: stories will begin About Kyiv, about a Turk, about wonderful animals. Another will play, so just hold on – He will start from Volochka, it will reach Kazan “ Mimic Chukhna, Mordovians, Cheremis, And amuse with a fairy tale, and twist a parable: “Farewell, guys! We had Vavilo, he lived richer than everyone else, Yes, I once thought of murmuring at God, – Since then, Vavilo has become shabby, ruined, There is no honey from bees, harvest from the earth, And only in one thing he was happy, That the hair from his nose grew rapidly … “ The worker will arrange, lay out shells – Planers, files, chisels, knives: “Look, little devils!” And the children are happy, How you saw, how you tinker – show them everything. A passer-by will fall asleep to his jokes, The guys get down to business – sawing and planing! The saw will go out – you can’t sharpen it even in a day! They break the drill and run away in fright. It happened that whole days flew by here, – Like a new passerby, then a new story …
Wow, it’s hot! .. Until noon, mushrooms were picked. Here they came out of the forest – towards exactly A blue ribbon, winding, long, Meadow river; jumped off in a crowd, And fair-haired heads over the desert river What porcini mushrooms in a forest clearing! The river resounded with both laughter and a howl: Here a fight is not a fight, a game is not a game… And the sun is scorching them with midday heat. – Home, kids! it’s time to have dinner.— We’ve returned. Everyone has a basket full, And how many stories! Caught with a scythe, Caught a hedgehog, got a little lost And saw a wolf … oh, what a terrible one! They offer flies and goats to the hedgehog, Roots gave him his own milk – He doesn’t drink! retreated…
Who catches leeches On the lava, where the uterus beats the linen, Who nurses his sister, two-year-old Glashka, Who drags kvass on the reaping bucket, And he, having tied his shirt under his throat, Something mysteriously draws in the sand; That one got into a puddle, and this one with a new one: She wove herself a glorious wreath, Everything is white, yellow, pale lilac Yes, occasionally a red flower. Those are sleeping in the sun, those are squatting. Here is a girl catching a horse with a basket – She caught it, jumped up and rides on it. And is she, born under the heat of the sun And brought home in an apron from the field, To be afraid of her humble horse?
Mushroom time did not have time to depart, Look – everyone’s lips are already black, They filled the mouth: the blueberries are ripe! And there are raspberries, lingonberries, walnuts! A childish cry, repeated by an echo, From morning until night, rumbles through the forests. Frightened by singing, hooting, laughter, Will the grouse take off, croaking to the chicks, Will the hare jump up – sodom, turmoil! Here is an old capercaillie with a slick wing He was brought into the bush … well, the poor thing is bad! They drag the living one to the village with triumph…
— Enough, Vanyusha! you walked a lot, It’s time for work, dear! – But even labor will turn first To Vanyusha its smart side: He sees how his father fertilizes the field, How he throws grain into the loose earth, How the field then begins to turn green, How the ear grows, pours grain; The finished harvest will be cut with sickles, They will be tied up in sheaves, they will be brought to the barn, They will dry it, beat it with flails, They will grind it in the mill and bake bread. A child will taste fresh bread And in the field he more willingly runs after his father. Will they wind up the senets: “Climb, little shooter!” Vanyusha enters the village as a tsar…
However, envy in a noble child It would be a pity for us to sow. So, by the way, we are obliged to wrap The other side of the medal. Suppose a peasant child is free Grows up without learning anything, But he will grow up, if God pleases, And nothing prevents him from bending. Suppose he knows forest paths, Prancing on horseback, not afraid of water, But midges mercilessly eat him, On the other hand, he is familiar with the works early…
Once, in the cold winter season, I came out of the forest; there was severe frost. I look, it slowly rises uphill A horse carrying a cart of brushwood. And, marching solemnly, in orderly calmness, A little man is leading the horse by the bridle In large boots, in a sheepskin coat, In large mittens . .. and he himself with a fingernail! – Hello, boy! – “Go past yourself!” – You are too formidable, as I see it! Where are the firewood from? – “From the forest, of course; Father, you hear, he cuts, and I take him away. (A woodcutter’s ax resounded in the forest.) — Does your father have a big family? “It’s a big family, but two people A total of muzhiks: my father and me…” — So there it is! And what is your name? – Vlas. – Are you a year old? – “The sixth passed … Well, dead!” the little one shouted in a bass voice, rushed by the bridle and walked faster. The sun shone so brightly on this picture, The child was so hilariously small, It was as if everything was made of cardboard, As if I were in a children’s theater! But the boy was a living, real boy, And firewood, and brushwood, and a piebald horse, And snow, lying to the windows of the village, And cold fire of the winter sun – Everything, everything was real Russian, With the stigma of unsociable, deadly winters, What is so painfully sweet to the Russian soul, What instills Russian thoughts in the minds, Those honest thoughts that have no will, For which there is no death – press do not press, In which there is so much malice and pain, In which there is so much love!
Play now, children! Grow at will! That’s why you’ve been given a red childhood, To love this meager field forever, So that it always seems sweet to you. Keep your age-old heritage, Love your working bread – And let the charm of childhood poetry Guide you into the depths of your native land! ..
Now it’s time for us to return to the beginning. Noticing that the guys have become bolder, — “Hey, thieves are coming! I called out to Fingal: Steal, steal! Well, hide quickly! Fingalushka made a serious face, He buried my belongings under the hay, He hid the game with special diligence, He lay down at my feet and growled angrily. An extensive field of canine science He was perfectly familiar; He started throwing out such things, That the audience could not leave the place. They wonder, they laugh! There is no time for fear! Command themselves! – “Fingalka, die!” – Don’t get stuck, Sergey! Don’t push, Kuzyakha, – “Look – dying – look!” I myself enjoyed, lying on the hay, Their noisy fun. Suddenly it became dark In the shed: it gets dark so quickly on the stage, When the storm is destined to break out. And exactly: a blow thundered over the barn, A rain river poured into the barn, The actor burst into a deafening bark, And the audience gave an arrow! The wide door unlocked, creaked, Hit the wall, locked again. I looked out: a dark cloud hung Just above our theater. In heavy rain the children fled Barefoot to their village… Faithful Fingal and I waited out the storm And went out to look for great snipes.

10 reasons to go to Night Vale
12/11/2017
About the book
“Welcome to Night Vale” is a podcast presented in the form of a radio show for the fictional town of Night Vale.
He was created by Joseph Fink and Geoffrey Cranor and voiced by Cecil Baldwin.
The podcast airs on the first and fifteenth of every month and consists of “news, announcements and advertisements” from a desert town somewhere in the US Southwest.
1. If you have long since graduated from high school, and serialomania caught you just in those years, then you probably remember the wonderful TV series The Twilight Zone. Are you a Stephen King fan? Well, Night Vale is a bizarre mix of all that, rivaling Netflix’s Stranger Things and even the famed Twin Peaks.
2. Very soon, “Welcome to Night Vale” will appear before readers and viewers in the form of a series. The adaptation will be handled by FX with the support of Sony Pictures Television and will be executive produced by Jennifer Hutchinson, best known for the Breaking Bad spin-off of the less legendary Better Call Saul.
3. In an interview with NPR radio, Joseph Fink commented on the creation of the podcast, stating that he “came up with this desert city where all the conspiracy theories would be real, and we were just starting from that idea.”
4. The podcast was so well-received by Tumblr users that in one week of its release, fans created nearly a million notes about Night Vale. There is also a community dedicated to the town in the Russian Tumblr.
5. In July 2013, Welcome to Night Vale ranked second on iTunes’ Top 10 Audio Podcasts list, behind This American Life. That same month, it received 150,000 downloads within one week and overtook This American Life to become number one on the list.
6. You want to know what happened in Night Vale after a mysterious stranger appeared there with a pile of flyers in his hands, on which only one inscription – “King City”.
7. The optimist says the glass is half full, the pessimist says the glass is half empty. And only the seeker of truth asks questions: “What is the glass doing here at all? Why is water spilled all over the floor? Who are all these people around?
8. Speaking of people. Night Vale has an incredible amount of characters and they are all as strange as their city. However, the story is told on behalf of the two main characters – Jackie and Diana.
9. The book “Welcome to Night Vale” was born from the success of the podcast of the same name and immediately became a super-bestseller in the US.
10. If you like really strange and even slightly creepy stories, this book is for you. A crazy book will hypnotize the reader and will not let go until the end, until you know how this madness will end.

Welcome to Night Vale
Welcome to Night Vale (in French, Welcome to Night Vale ) is a US audio podcast, a type of community radio for the fictional city of Night Vale, located somewhere in the Southwestern United States. It was created by Joseph Fink and Geoffrey Cranor and published by Commonplace Books. Host, protagonist and narrator – Cecil Gershwin Palmer (Cecil Baldwin), minor characters are sometimes played by guest stars. Joseph Fink said in an interview with NPR that the show started with the idea of a desert city where all the conspiracy theories are real.
Each episode has a piece of music from a different independent artist in the “weather section”. The musical theme of the performance was composed by the musician Disappearance. In , ‘s Welcome to Night Vale becomes the most downloaded podcast on iTunes.
A novel written by Joseph Fink and Geoffrey Cranor was published in as Welcome to Night Vale then translated into French and published by Editions Bragelonne on titled “ Welcome to Night Valley” .
Characters
Cecil Palmer is the main character and narrator of the podcast. It has no physical description, allowing fans to have their own image. We do not know his age (even if it is listed in one of the episodes he experienced at the end of World War II). He devotes a real cult to Carlos, a scientist, and for unknown reasons, hates Steve Carlsburg.
Carlos is a scientist who came to Night Vale to study the people and the city. He has perfect hair (which was cut by Night Vale’s barber, causing a scandal in the first few episodes). We also don’t know his age. In the rest of the episodes, we learn that he is romantically involved with Cecil Palmer (they even get married in episode 100).
Kevin is a character radio host in Desert Bluffs, a nearby and rival city of Night Vale. He is introduced in episode 19 (A and B) during a sandstorm when a portal of sorts is created connecting Cecil and Kevin’s office. Originally from the Desert Cliffs, he worships the Smiling God (as do all the inhabitants of the Desert Cliffs), but is also known to be a true psychopath. He is also known as the doppelgänger of Cecil.
Steve Carlsburgh is believed to be the person Cecil hates the most in Night Vale, though we don’t know why. He is a Scorpio (which is quite funny during a horoscope on the radio). He is Cecil’s brother-in-law and Kevin likes him.
Hiram McDaniel – “literally a five-headed dragon.” Each of his heads has a very specific color and personality. He became a fugitive after an assassination attempt on Dana, mayor of Night Vale. One of his Purple Heads was also killed during one of his escape attempts.
Dana was originally one of Cecil’s trainees. She was sent to write a story, but was teleported to “another desert world”, followed shortly by Carlos. She managed to escape with the scientist and was elected Mayor of Night Vale.
Old Josie is an elderly woman who has lived in Night Vale for a long time and has known Cecil for a very long time (leading fans to speculate about Cecil’s possible immortality). In the first episode, it is said that the angels have revealed themselves to her. So, she lives with the Erics.
The Faceless Woman is a creature that lives secretly in your homes and can move objects around. You can’t see it directly, but you can see it out of the corner of your eye.
french version
Welcome to Night Vale was translated into French at the rate of one episode per month as Bienvenue à Valnuit by the Valnuitains team and produced by Kobal. Although the translation is authorized by the team of the original version, it is not official. The team left after episode 23 aired.
