Turgenev “Fathers and Sons”, chapter 25 – read online
on the bench Katya with Arkady; on the ground near them Fifi fit, giving her long body that graceful turn that the hunters have a reputation for “hare couch”. Both Arkady and Katya were silent; he held a half-open book in his hands, and she picked out the remaining crumbs of white bread from the basket and threw them to a small family of sparrows, who, with their characteristic cowardly impudence, jumped and chirped at her very feet. A weak wind, stirring in the ash leaves, gently moved back and forth, and along the dark path and along Fifi’s yellow back, pale golden spots of light; an even shadow washed over Arkady and Katya; only occasionally did a bright streak light up in her hair. They were both silent; but precisely in the way they were silent, the way they sat side by side, showed a trusting rapprochement: each of them did not seem to think about his neighbor, but secretly rejoiced at his closeness. And their faces had changed since the last time we saw them: Arkady seemed calmer. Katya is livelier, bolder.
“Don’t you find,” Arkady began, “that ash is very well named in Russian: not a single tree is so light and clear does not see through in the air like it does.
Katya raised her eyes and said: “Yes,” and Arkady thought: “This one doesn’t reproach me for expressing myself beautifully.”
“I don’t love Heine,” Katya began, pointing with her eyes at the book that Arkady was holding in his hands, “neither when he laughs, nor when he cries: I love him when he is thoughtful and sad.
“But I like it when he laughs,” Arkady remarked.
– These are still old traces of your satirical trend in you … (“Old traces!” thought Arkady. “If Bazarov heard that!”) Wait, we’ll remake you.
– Who will remake me? You?
– Who? Sister; Porfiry Platonovich, with whom you no longer quarrel; aunt, whom you took to church the third day.
– I couldn’t refuse! And as for Anna Sergeevna, she herself, you remember, agreed with Yevgeny in many respects.
– My sister was under his influence then, just like you.
– Just like me! Do you notice that I have already freed myself from his influence?
Katya was silent.
“I know,” Arkady continued, “you never liked him.
– I can’t judge him.
– Do you know what, Katerina Sergeevna? Whenever I hear this answer, I don’t believe it… There is no such person that each of us could not judge! It’s just an excuse.
– Well, I’ll tell you that he … not only doesn’t like me, but I feel that he is a stranger to me, and I am a stranger to him … and you are a stranger to him.
– Why is that?
– How can I tell you . .. He is predatory, and you and I are tame.
– And am I manual?
Katya nodded her head.
Arkady scratched behind his ear.
– Listen, Katerina Sergeevna: this is, in fact, insulting.
– Would you like to be predatory?
– Not predatory, but strong, energetic.
– You can’t want this… Your friend doesn’t want this, but he has it.
– Hm! So you think that he had a great influence on Anna Sergeevna?
– Yes. But no one can get the better of her for long,” Katya added in an undertone.
– Why do you think that?
– She is very proud… I didn’t mean to say that… she values her independence very much.
– Who doesn’t value her? asked Arkady, and in his own mind flashed: “What is she for?” “What is she for?” – flashed and have Katya. Young people who meet often and friendly, the same thoughts constantly come to mind.
Arkady smiled and, moving slightly closer to Katya, said in a whisper:
– Admit that you are a little afraid of her .
– Whom?
– Her, – Arkady repeated significantly.
– And you? – in turn asked Katya.
– And me; notice I said and i.
Katya shook her finger at him.
“That surprises me,” she began, “never has your sister been so disposed towards you as she is now; much more than on your first visit.
– That’s it!
– Didn’t you notice that? Doesn’t that make you happy?
Arkady thought about it.
– How could I earn Anna Sergeevna’s favor? Is it not the fact that he brought her letters from your mother?
– There are reasons for this and others, which I will not say.
– Why is that?
– I won’t tell.
– Oh! I know you are very stubborn.
– Stubborn.
– And observant.
Katya looked sideways at Arkady.
– Maybe that makes you angry? What are you thinking about?
– I’m thinking about where this watchfulness, which is really in you, could come from. You are so timid, incredulous; alienate everyone …
– I lived alone a lot; involuntarily you begin to think. But do I alienate everyone?
Arkady cast a grateful glance at Katya.
– All this is wonderful, – he continued, – but people in your position, I mean, with your condition, rarely have this gift; to them, as to kings, the truth is difficult to reach.
– Why, I’m not rich.
Arkady was amazed and did not immediately understand Katya. “And in fact, the estate is all sisterly!” – it occurred to him; the thought did not displease him.
– How well you said it! he said.
– And what?
– Well said; simply, without being ashamed and without showing off. By the way: I imagine that in the feeling of a person who knows and says that he is poor, there must be something special, some kind of vanity.
– I did not experience any of this, by the grace of my sister; I mentioned my condition only because I had to say it.
– So; but admit that you also have a particle of that vanity of which I have just spoken.
– For example?
– For example, you – excuse my question – would you not marry a rich man?
– If I loved him very much… No, it seems that even then I wouldn’t go.
– Ah! you see! exclaimed Arkady, and after a while he added: “Why don’t you marry him?”
– Because the song also sings about the uneven.
– Maybe you want to dominate or…
– Oh no! what is it for? On the contrary, I am ready to submit, only inequality is hard. But to respect yourself and submit, I understand this; it is happiness; but a subordinate existence… No, that’s enough.
“That’s enough,” Arkady repeated after Katya. “Yes, yes,” he continued, “it’s not for nothing that you are of the same blood as Anna Sergeevna; you are as independent as she is; but you are more secretive. You, I am sure, will never be the first to express your feelings, no matter how strong and holy it may be…
– How could it be otherwise? Katya asked.
– You are equally smart; you have just as much, if not more, character than her. ..
“Don’t compare me with my sister, please,” Katya hastily interrupted, “it’s too unfavorable for me. You seem to have forgotten that your sister is both beautiful and clever, and … you in particular, Arkady Nikolaevich, should not have said such words, and also with such a serious face.
– What does it mean “to you in particular”, and from what do you conclude that I’m joking?
– Of course you are joking.
– Do you think? What if I’m convinced of what I’m saying? If I find that I haven’t expressed myself quite strongly yet?
– I don’t understand you.
– Really? Well, now I see: I definitely praised your powers of observation too much.
– How?
Arkady didn’t answer and turned away, and Katya found a few more crumbs in the basket and started throwing them to the sparrows; but the swing of her hand was too strong, and they flew away before they had time to peck.
– Katerina Sergeevna! Arkady spoke up suddenly, “it’s probably all the same to you; but know that I will not exchange you not only for your sister, but for anyone in the world.
He got up and quickly walked away, as if frightened by the words that escaped his lips.
And Katya dropped both hands together with the basket on her knees and, bowing her head, looked after Arkady for a long time. Little by little, a scarlet color came out a little on her cheeks; but the lips did not smile, and the dark eyes expressed bewilderment and some other, as yet nameless feeling.
Are you alone? – Anna Sergeevna’s voice was heard near her. – It seems you went to the garden with Arkady.
Katya slowly turned her eyes to her sister (elegantly, even exquisitely dressed, she stood on the path and moved Fifi’s ears with the tip of her open umbrella) and slowly said:
– I’m alone.
– I see it, – she answered with a laugh, – so he went to his room?
– Yes.
Did you read together?
– Yes.
Anna Sergeevna took Katya by the chin and lifted her face.
– You didn’t quarrel, I hope?
“No,” Katya said and quietly took her sister’s hand away.
– How solemnly you answer! I thought to find him here and invite him to go for a walk with me. He asks me all about it. They brought you shoes from the city, go try them on: I already noticed yesterday that your old ones were completely worn out. In general, you are not quite doing this, but you still have such lovely legs! And your hands are good … only great; so you have to take it with your feet. But you are not my coquette.
Anna Sergeevna went further down the path, making a slight noise with her beautiful dress; Katya got up from the bench and, taking Heine with her, left too – only not to try on shoes.
“Lovely legs,” she thought as she slowly and lightly ascended the sun-hot stone steps of the terrace, “pretty legs, you say… Well, they will have him.”
But she immediately felt ashamed and quickly ran upstairs.
Arkady went down the corridor to his room; the butler overtook him and reported that Mr. Bazarov was sitting with him.
– Eugene! muttered Arkady, almost with fright, “how long ago did he arrive?”
– They came right this minute and ordered Anna Sergeevna not to report about themselves, but ordered to bring themselves directly to you.
“Isn’t it a misfortune that we have at home?” thought Arkady, and hurriedly running up the stairs, he opened the door at once. The sight of Bazarov immediately reassured him, although a more experienced eye would probably have discovered signs of inner excitement in the still energetic, but haggard figure of the unexpected guest. With a dusty overcoat on his shoulders, with a cap on his head, he sat on the window; he did not get up even when Arkady threw himself on his neck with noisy exclamations.
– That’s unexpected! What destinies! he repeated, bustling about the room, like a man who himself imagines and wants to show that he rejoices. “After all, everything in our house is safe, everyone is healthy, isn’t it?”
“Everything is well with you, but not everyone is healthy,” said Bazarov. – And you do not chatter, tell me to bring kvass, sit down and listen to what I will tell you in a few, but, I hope, quite strong expressions.
Arkady fell silent, and Bazarov told him his duel with Pavel Petrovich. Arkady was very surprised and even saddened; but did not consider it necessary to show it; he only asked if his uncle’s wound was really harmless? And, having received the answer that she was the most interesting, only not in medical terms, he forced a smile, and his heart felt terribly, and somehow ashamed. Bazarov seemed to understand him.
“Yes, brother,” he said, “this is what it means to live with feudal lords. You yourself will fall into the feudal lords and you will participate in knightly tournaments. Well, so I went to the “fathers,” concluded Bazarov, “and on the road I turned here … in order to convey all this, I would say, if I did not consider useless lies to be stupidity. No, I turned this way—hell knows why. You see, sometimes it is useful for a person to take himself for cold and pull himself out, like a radish from a ridge; I did this the other day … But I wanted to look once more at what I parted from, at the ridge where I was sitting.
“I hope these words don’t apply to me,” Arkady objected with excitement, “I hope you don’t think of parting with me.
Bazarov looked at him intently, almost piercingly.
– As if it would upset you so much? It seems to me that you already broke up with me. You are so fresh and clean … it must be that your business with Anna Sergeevna is going well.
– What are my business with Anna Sergeevna?
– Didn’t you come here from the city for her, little bird? By the way, how are Sunday schools doing there? Aren’t you in love with her? Or is it time for you to be modest?
– Eugene, you know, I have always been frank with you; I can assure you, I swear to you, that you are mistaken.
– Hm! A new word,” Bazarov remarked in an undertone. “But you have nothing to get excited about, because it doesn’t matter to me at all. A romantic would say: I feel that our paths are beginning to diverge, and I just say that we are fed up with each other.
– Eugene …
– My soul, it does not matter; Is it still boring in the world! And now, I think, should we say goodbye? Ever since I’ve been here, I’ve been feeling nasty, as if I’ve read Gogol’s letters to the governor of Kaluga. By the way, I did not order the horses to be put aside.
– Sorry, that’s impossible!
– Why?
– I am no longer talking about myself; but that would be extremely impolite in front of Anna Sergeevna, who would certainly wish to see you.
– Well, you’re wrong about that.
“On the contrary, I’m sure I’m right,” objected Arkady. “And why are you pretending?” For that matter, didn’t you yourself come here for her?
– This may be true, but you are still mistaken.
But Arkady was right. Anna Sergeevna wished to see Bazarov and invited him to her place through her butler. Bazarov changed his clothes before going to her: it turned out that he had put his new dress in such a way that he had it under his arm.
Odintsova received him not in the room where he so unexpectedly declared his love for her, but in the living room. She graciously held out her fingertips to him, but her face expressed involuntary tension.
“Anna Sergeyevna,” Bazarov hurried to say, “First of all, I must reassure you. Before you is a mortal who himself has come to his senses for a long time and hopes that others have forgotten his nonsense. I am leaving for a long time, and you will agree that although I am not a gentle creature, it would be sad for me to carry with me the thought that you remember me with disgust.
Anna Sergeevna sighed deeply, like a person who has just climbed a high mountain, and her face brightened with a smile. She held out her hand to Bazarov a second time, and answered his shake.
“Whoever remembers the old is out of his sight,” she said, “all the more so since, to be honest, I also sinned then, if not with coquetry, then with something else. One word: be friends as before. That was a dream, wasn’t it? Who remembers dreams?
– Who remembers them? And besides, love … because this feeling is feigned.
– Really? I am very pleased to hear that.
That is how Anna Sergeevna expressed herself, and that is how Bazarov expressed himself; they both thought they were telling the truth. Was there truth, the full truth, in their words? They themselves did not know this, and the author even more so. But their conversation began as if they completely believed each other.
Anna Sergeevna asked, among other things, Bazarov what he was doing with the Kirsanovs. He almost told her about his duel with Pavel Petrovich, but he restrained himself from thinking that she might think that he was interesting, and answered her that he had been working all this time.
“And I,” Anna Sergeevna said, “at first I was moping, God knows why, I even planned to go abroad, imagine!.. Then it passed; your friend, Arkady Nikolaitch, arrived, and I fell back into my groove, into my real role.
– What role is this, may I ask?
– The role of aunt, mentor, mother, whatever you want to call it. By the way, do you know that before I did not really understand your close friendship with Arkady Nikolaitch; I found it rather insignificant. But now I got to know him better and was convinced that he was smart . .. And most importantly, he is young, young … not like you and me, Yevgeny Vasilyich.
– Is he still shy around you? Bazarov asked.
“Isn’t it…” Anna Sergeevna began, and after thinking a little, she added: “Now he has become more trusting, he talks to me. Before he avoided me. However, I did not seek his company. They are great friends with Katya.
Bazarov felt annoyed. “A woman cannot help but be cunning!” he thought.
“You say he avoided you,” he said with a cold smile, “but it probably didn’t remain a secret to you that he was in love with you?”
– How? and he? Anna Sergeevna broke loose.
“And he,” Bazarov repeated with a humble bow. – Didn’t you know this and I told you the news?
Anna Sergeevna lowered her eyes.
– You are mistaken, Evgeny Vasilyich.
– I don’t think so. But maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned it. “And don’t be cunning ahead,” he added to himself.
– Why not mention? But I think that here again you attach too much importance to instant impressions. I’m beginning to suspect that you’re exaggerating.
– Let’s not talk about it, Anna Sergeevna.
– Why? – she objected, and she herself turned the conversation to another path. All the same, she was embarrassed with Bazarov, although she told him and assured herself that everything was forgotten. Exchanging with him the simplest speeches, even joking with him, she felt a slight constraint of fear. So people on a steamer, at sea, talk and laugh carelessly, for whatever reason, as on solid ground; but if there is the slightest stop, the slightest sign of something extraordinary appears, and immediately an expression of special anxiety appears on all faces, indicating a constant awareness of constant danger.
Anna Sergeevna’s conversation with Bazarov did not last long. She began to think, to answer absently, and suggested that he finally go into the hall, where they found the princess and Katya. “But where is Arkady Nikolaevich?” the hostess asked, and learning that he had not shown himself for more than an hour, she sent for him. They did not find him soon: he climbed into the very depths of the garden and, resting his chin on his crossed arms, sat deep in thought. They were deep and important, these thoughts, but not sad. He knew that Anna Sergeevna was sitting alone with Bazarov, and he did not feel jealousy, as he used to; on the contrary, his face quietly brightened; it seemed that he was surprised at something, and rejoiced, and decided on something.
Ivan Turgenev – Fathers and Sons: Chapter 25: read online, full text
In Nikolskoye, in the garden, in the shade of a tall ash tree, Katya and Arkady were sitting on a turf bench; on the ground near them Fifi fit, giving her long body that graceful turn that the hunters have a reputation for “hare couch”.
“Don’t you think,” Arkady began, “that ash is very well named in Russian: not a single tree can see through the air so easily and clearly as it does.
Katya raised her eyes and said, “Yes,” and Arkady thought, “This one doesn’t reproach me for expressing myself beautifully.”
“I don’t love Heine,” Katya began, pointing with her eyes at the book that Arkady held in his hands, “neither when he laughs, nor when he cries: I love him when he is thoughtful and sad.
“But I like it when he laughs,” Arkady remarked.
– These are still old traces of your satirical trend in you… (“Old traces!” thought Arkady. “If Bazarov heard that!”) Wait, we’ll remake you.
– Who will remake me? You?
Who? Sister; Porfiry Platonovich, with whom you no longer quarrel; aunt, whom you took to church the third day.
– I couldn’t refuse! And as for Anna Sergeevna, she herself, you remember, agreed with Yevgeny in many respects.
– My sister was then under his influence, just like you.
– Well, I’ll tell you that he… not that I don’t like it, but I feel that he is a stranger to me, and I am a stranger to him. .. and you are a stranger to him.
– Why is that?
– How can I tell you … He is predatory, and we are tame.
– Yes. But no one can get the upper hand over her for a long time, ”Katya added in an undertone.
– Why do you think that?
– She is very proud… I didn’t mean to say that… she values her independence very much.
– Who does not value her? asked Arkady, and in his own mind flashed: “What is she for?” “What is she for?” – flashed and have Katya. Young people who meet often and friendly, the same thoughts constantly come to mind.
Arkady smiled and, moving slightly closer to Katya, said in a whisper:
– Confess that you are a little afraid of her.
– Whom?
“Her,” Arkady repeated significantly.
– And you? – in turn asked Katya.
– Me too; notice, I said: and I.
Katya shook her finger at him.
“That surprises me,” she began, “never has your sister been so disposed towards you as she is now; much more than on your first visit.
– That’s it!
– Didn’t you notice that? Doesn’t that make you happy?
Arkady thought about it.
– How could I win Anna Sergeevna’s favor? Is it not the fact that he brought her letters from your mother?
– There are reasons for this and others, which I won’t say.
– Why is that?
– I won’t tell.
– Oh! I know you are very stubborn.
– Stubborn.
– And observant.
Katya looked sideways at Arkady.
– Does that make you angry?
– How well you said it! he said.
– And what?
Well said; simply, without being ashamed and without showing off.
– For example, you, excuse my question, would you not marry a rich man?
– If I loved him very much… No, it seems that even then I wouldn’t go.
– Ah! you see! exclaimed Arkady, and after a while he added: “Why don’t you marry him?”
– Because the song is about a rough girl.
– You are equally smart; you have just as much, if not more, character than her. ..
– Don’t compare me with my sister, please, – Katya hastily interrupted, – it’s too unfavorable for me. You seem to have forgotten that your sister is both beautiful and clever, and … you in particular, Arkady Nikolaevich, should not have said such words, and also with such a serious face.
– What does it mean, “to you in particular,” and from what do you conclude that I am joking?
Of course you’re joking.
– Katerina Sergeevna! said Arkady suddenly, “it probably doesn’t matter to you; but know that I will not exchange you not only for your sister, but for anyone in the world.
– Are you alone? – Anna Sergeevna’s voice was heard near her. – It seems you went to the garden with Arkady.
Katya slowly turned her eyes to her sister (elegantly, even elegantly dressed, she stood on the path and moved Fifi’s ears with the tip of her open umbrella) and slowly said:
– I’m alone.
– I see it, – she answered with a laugh, – so he went to his room?
– Yes.
– Did you read together?
– They came right this minute and ordered Anna Sergeevna not to report about themselves, but they ordered to show themselves directly to you.
You see, sometimes it is useful for a person to take himself by the crest and pull himself out like a radish from a ridge; I did this the other day … But I wanted to look once more at what I parted from, at the ridge where I was sitting.
“I hope these words don’t apply to me,” Arkady objected with excitement, “I hope you don’t think of parting with me.
Bazarov looked intently, almost piercingly at him.
– Hm! A new word, ”Bazarov remarked in an undertone. “But you have nothing to get excited about, because it doesn’t matter to me at all. A romantic would say: I feel that our paths are beginning to diverge, and I just say that we are fed up with each other.
– Eugene…
– My soul, it doesn’t matter; Is it still boring in the world! And now, I think, should we say goodbye? Ever since I’ve been here, I’ve been feeling nasty, as if I’ve read Gogol’s letters to the governor of Kaluga. By the way, I did not order the horses to be put aside.
– Damn, that’s impossible!
– Why?
– I am no longer talking about myself; but that would be extremely impolite in front of Anna Sergeevna, who would certainly wish to see you.
– Well, you’re wrong about that.
– On the contrary, I am sure that I am right, Arkady objected.

Texas Rising Star
The Texas Rising Star program is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system (QRIS) for child care programs. Numerous research studies have shown that children who attend higher-quality early learning programs are more prepared for school entry than children who do not attend high-quality programs.
Our programs offer quality that exceeds the child care licensing standards for director and staff qualifications, teacher-child interactions, program administration, family education and engagement, and indoor and outdoor learning environments. These above and beyond practices positively affect the development of the children we serve.
Physical Development
Children will have several opportunities throughout their day to actively explore their indoor and outdoor environments by using their bodies to practice their gross motor skills, such as running, jumping, balancing, dancing, crawling and more.
Healthy Snack
EAC YMCA ensures children have access to a healthy, balanced snack each morning and afternoon. Snacks include a variety of vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and small amounts of added sugar and saturated fat. All USDA approved.
Small Group Instruction
Preschoolers will experience hands-on activities during small group instruction which allows the teacher to provide specific support to help each child move to the next level of learning. These activities include fine motor skills, sorting, counting, and number and letter recognition.

1. Texas Capitol
In the center of Austin stands the legislative center of Texas, the State Capitol. Opened in 1888, this historic Austin landmark is 5 meters taller than the main US Capitol in Washington, DC. The capitol is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
2.
Metropolitan Park
Located on the banks of the Colorado River, this locals’ favorite park spreads over 350 acres and maintains Austin’s reputation as one of the best places to live. The park is home to some of Austin’s most popular city attractions, from the Botanical Gardens, the Sculpture Museum to the Barton Spring Pool, as well as several sports fields and plenty of open spaces to walk with lovely lawns punctuated by small groves of trees. There is also a theatre, children’s train and many small playgrounds on site. The park hosts the annual Austin City Limits Music Festival.
3. Sculpture Garden
The work of Charles Umlauf, a professor of art at the University of Texas for 40 years, blends with the local Texas landscape. Umlauf and his wife Angelina donated their property, Charles’ home and studio, along with 168 sculptures, to the City of Austin in 1985. The garden contains 59 Umlauf sculptures, mostly in bronze using the wax melting method. The collection also includes thousands of his drawings.

Located in Metropolitan Park, the pool has been a favorite bathing spot for locals and visitors for generations. Native Americans used the springs at this site for thousands of years before the arrival of European colonists. William Barton first painted an architectural bathing complex in the 1830s. The 3-acre pool, fed by underground springs, maintains a constant temperature of 26 to 28 degrees. The area around the pool features recreational lawns, bathhouses, and an educational exhibit about the history of Barton Springs, including the endangered salamander that lives in the area.
7. Museum of Texas History
was on atop the dome of the State Capitol, to a 1960s rocket control room at the Houston Space Center. Along with galleries featuring over 700 artifacts, the museum features special exhibits that reflect Texas’ diverse history. The museum also houses the largest IMAX screen in the state, as well as the Spirit of Texas Theatre, outdoor patio cafe and gift shop.

8. Austin Bats
Experts say Austin is home to the largest urban bat colony in North America. Approximately 1.5 million bats call the Ann Richards Bridge on Congress Avenue their home. Bats settled here after the reconstruction of the bridge in 1980, creating crevices perfect for bats to hide from predators. Every spring, Mexican free-tailed bats migrate north to the bridge to give birth and raise their young. During the summer, bats can be seen every evening at dusk as they fly out in search of food to rid the city of pesky insects before heading back to central Mexico in the fall. Evening kayaking at Lady Bird Lake is a great way to watch bats.
The Congress Avenue Bridge is located south of downtown Austin, between the Colorado River and Lady Bird Lake. There is a footpath on the bridge, and it is best to go to the bridge before sunset.
9. Museum of Mexican Art
The Museum of Mexican Art is dedicated to the preservation of Mexican and Latin American art and culture, including artists from Texas. It houses a permanent collection of over 5,000 contemporary works, including photographs, sculptures, arts and crafts and masks, as well as works by local artists. The museum also hosts theatrical and musical performances throughout the year.
Located along Congress Avenue downtown, just a couple of blocks south of Driskill, the Museum of Mexican Art is open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday to Thursday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Friday and Saturday and from 12:00 to 17:00 on Sundays. Admission is $7 for adults, $4 for students and seniors, and $1 for children under 12.
10. Mayfield Park and Preserve
Although listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Mayfield Park and Preserve attracts tourists primarily because of its exorbitant population of peacocks (about two dozen!). Peacocks roam all over the park, keep your eyes open while walking and don’t forget to look at the trees and rooftops. The historic cottage and gardens are located on a 2 hectare parcel of land that Mary Mayfield Gutch donated to the City of Austin in 1971 years. There are many ponds and gardens to explore here. Mayfield Preserve is a 21 hectare natural landscape that hikers can access via hiking trails.

Senior College: Years 11-13
ACG Senior College is one of the best high schools in New Zealand. Since its founding in 1995, as New Zealand’s only pre-college education centre, the college has been dedicated to student achievement of outstanding academic achievement and has been a consistent leader in the national coeducational school rankings. According to the results of two Cambridge examination sessions, college graduates showed 17 best academic results in individual subjects in the world and 37 in New Zealand. The college is located in the heart of Auckland with its vibrant and busy life. The educational institution occupies an old building, standing close to the Auckland Institute of Technology and located just a few minutes walk from the University of Auckland.
More
College FAQ:
1. How long is a lesson at ACG Senior College? A lesson usually lasts 85 minutes. This assumes 5 lessons each day except Friday when students have 4 lessons in total.
2. How many lessons each day? A typical 11th grade student may have 4 or 5 lessons a day. Usually there are 20 to 22 lessons per week. It depends on how many and what subjects the students have chosen to study. Students in grades 12 and 13 typically attend 16 lessons per week, which gives them 8 free lessons for homework. But again, it depends on how many subjects they study.
3. Does ACG Senior College have a uniform? No. The dress code is marked in the student diaries and the children can choose any clothes of their choice. But the school asks that the clothes correspond to the educational environment and look quite formal.
4. Does the location of the school in the city center interfere with the learning process? There are many advantages to having the school within a 2-minute walk of the main street, Queen Street, adjacent to the city library. Proximity to the University of Auckland, Auckland University of Technology, art galleries and business centers help students and teachers gain a variety of experiences that are only possible in the city center.

Creative Expression and Movement – Action for Healthy Kids
Overview
Feelings don’t give a warning sign before they come up, so it’s important to help children create a toolbox of activities or expressive outlets to work through different feelings and emotions. Creative expression offers children an opportunity to develop important skills that support positive social emotional health including the ability to name and identify their own feelings, think critically about the world around them and practice self-regulation for positive behavior management.
Creative expression through movement also comes with the added benefit of physical activity – supporting the mind-body connection. The best part? There is no right or wrong answer! Feelings are special and specific to each and every one of us – so how we express them is, too. Use movement to bring the attention back to the body and have fun exploring feelings and emotions.
Take Action
Move to the music. Just turning on some music and allowing your body to move to how it makes you feel is a great way to get your body moving while reflecting on feelings and emotions.
Make a playlist of songs with different melodies and intensity. Encourage children to move to the music based on how it makes them feel. A slow, harmonic song might elicit feelings of calm or mellow while an upbeat, bouncy song might bring out feelings such as happy or inspired.
You can also create your own music. Use household items such as pots and pans, upside down cups, shakers made of rice in a plastic container, etc. Develop a list of feelings and emotions and create the sounds that come to mind with your very own living room band.
Interpret the sounds and sights of nature. Our surroundings can influence how we feel including the sounds of nature. It also offers an outlet for creative thinking and self-reflection.
Step outside and listen to the surrounding sounds and look around at what you see.
Draw a picture or write down a list. Think of what feelings or emotions come to mind with each of these sounds and how you might express those feelings through movement.
Snow is quietly falling – It feels calm and sleepy – I move with long stretches and quiet steps.
Cars are zooming along the street of a busy city – It feels energetic – I spin and move quickly.
Thunder rumbles – It feels angry – I dance with big movements and loud stomps.
The sun is shining brightly – It feels happy and excited – I move with hops and jumps.
Dance through the rainbow. Colors can be interpreted to mean different things and represent different emotions. Create a rainbow ribbon and dance through each color and an associated feeling.
Create a rainbow ribbon stick or ring by using different colored ribbon or up-cycling strips of old t-shirts.
Encourage children to think about each color of the rainbow (you can also add in neutrals like white, grey and brown) and feelings that come to mind.
Orange is bright and energizing – I feel excited and hopeful.
Green is calming – I feel relaxed.
Grey is hard to explain – I feel mellow.
With their rainbow stick or ring, invite children to dance through each color and express an associated feeling. At the end, ask them to dance to all of the colors of the rainbow they feel today together. This can be done to music or with children speaking their thoughts out loud.
Tips
With whatever activity you choose, create space to reflect and “debrief” afterwards. As children explore feelings and emotions of their own, it’s important to give them an outlet to talk through them when needed. You can also do this through journaling or arts and crafts.
Reinforce positive ways to express feelings – whether through movement, creative play or quite mindfulness activities. Encouraging children to express their feelings in ways that feel the most supportive to them, helps them to develop a routine or “go to” strategy when feelings and emotions are running high.
Avoid discrediting how children connect feelings in some of these activities. Children may interpret sounds, music or colors to mean different things to them. Avoid leading questions that influence them to answer one way or another and instead invite them to share more around their connections and seek to understand their perspective.
Model creative expression by sharing in the activity with children. Children may feel more comfortable to express feelings and emotions if they see the adults around them doing the same. It also affirms that there is no right or wrong answer and invites them to express a little more freely.
Always be sure to invite not request. Sharing in feeling and emotions can be sensitive and take time for children. Building trust and allowing the pace to unfold at a speed that makes the most sense for them is key to creating an open line of communication.
Creative Expressions and Activities for Preschoolers
Most parents have the misconception that education is limited to only reading and writing. But the real goal of education is to hone your child’s skills and encourage their curiosity.
Every child has different needs. Every child learns at his or her own pace. Some kids are creative and artistic, while others are astute observers.
With one child, it’s hard to keep up with their energy and with the other, you wonder if they’re even in the room.
Encouraging your child to communicate using movements, words, and visuals is essential for helping them grow and develop. Here are a few creative expressions and activities every parent should teach their kids:
Dancing
There are various types of dances, and enrolling your child for dance lessons is an excellent way to help them grow. They’ll become more flexible, learn to balance themselves, and improve their focus.
Dancing will help your child learn about discipline. It’ll also help them use their energy positively. It’ll help boost their self-esteem and they’ll learn to express themselves confidently.
Drawing
Unleash the little artist within your child with art lessons. If your child has a creative side to them that’s begging to be let out, don’t hesitate.
Art itself is a form of expression. Let your child’s imagination thrive by letting them grab those paints and colors. It’ll bring their world to life and you’ll also get to learn what type of person your child is.
This is important because it will:
Develop their motor skills
Encourage visual analysis
Boost self-confidence
Improve concentration
Establish hand-eye coordination
Teach creative problem-solving techniques
Building
Given your child is above the age of 5, allow them to play with Legos (still supervise them).
This will bring out the innovator in them. It’ll also help hone their creative problem-solving skills and encourage their critical thinking abilities. They’ll learn to solve problems based on logic and not just emotions.
If your child is sensitive and emotional, it’s a good way to help them de-stress. You can also give them a cardboard box and let their imagination run wild.
Join in on the fun and you can improve your relationship with your child!
Ask them if they think the box is a spaceship, boat, or a car. You can even look up a few cardboard crafts videos on YouTube to help encourage your child’s creative side.
From a miniature wardrobe to a bookshelf, there are no limitations!
Puzzles and Word Games
Puzzles will help develop your child’s critical thinking skills and show them there is more than one way of solving problems. It will help think on the spot and this way, they’ll learn to remain calm during emergencies and develop mental resilience.
Words games will help increase your child’s vocabulary; they’ll learn new words and hone their reading skills.
Enroll Your Child into a Pre-School Program
A pre-school program will help your child learn to express themselves creatively. Your child will master the ability to adapt to their surroundings at their own pace. They will be taught different ways to express themselves and explore their creative side.

Formation of creative self-expression in preschool children in music classes
music director of the highest qualification category
MKDOU “Kindergarten No. 510 of the combined type “Kalinka”, Novosibirsk
All parents dream that their baby will grow up to be a bright and extraordinary personality, a real creator of his life. However, the dream is separated from reality by more than one step, and in order for it to come true, parents must actively participate in the creative development of their child. Before the makings turn into talents and abilities, a lot of time will pass.
The current stage of the development of society is characterized by the formation of a new type of education, the meaning-forming factor of which is the idea of educating a person of culture, a “person-creator”, “a person-creator”, capable of a positive and constructive approach to solving urgent life problems.
Preschool childhood is a period during which the formation of a personality takes place, its main personal qualities, character and mental characteristics are laid. The high natural activity of children ensures their rapid development.
Self-expression is a way that helps a child to express himself to others, to realize himself. Under the self-expression of preschool children understand the age-related manifestation of independence in creative activity. Monitoring the musical development of preschoolers shows that the development of creative self-expression abilities is often a “problem area” in the work of a music director. In this regard, the problem of studying the features of the development of children’s creative self-expression, the development of a system for the formation of their musical and rhythmic feeling, motor sphere, creative activity, which is one of the components in the development of the creative abilities of a preschooler, is important.
Taking into account the age characteristics of the mental, physical and speech development of children at preschool age, it is possible to single out some ways of a child’s self-expression. At a younger preschool age, imagination begins to develop, which is especially clearly manifested in the game, when some objects act as substitutes for others. We form the same ways of self-expression in music lessons. For example, listening to music in the upper register, light, moving, children transform into “bunnies”. Or listening to music in the lower register, children transform into “bears”. Relationships between children are conditioned by norms and rules and are manifested in play activities.
An analysis of psychological and pedagogical research has shown that at preschool age there is an integral system of objective and subjective prerequisites for the successful development of children’s creative self-expression in various directions and with the help of various means. And a special role is given to the activity of the artistic and aesthetic cycle, since, by its specificity, it is designed to create conditions for the development of children’s creative self-expression, to contribute to the disclosure of their creative potential, to solve the problems of developing creative abilities.
Self-expression of preschool children is reflex-impulsive in nature, due to the nature of the child. In children of middle preschool age, role-playing interactions appear in play activities. In music lessons, children can independently come up with a short fairy tale on a given topic, their own simple dance movements, draw a picture for a piece of music. All this characterizes the manifestation of independence of children and the desire for self-expression. During this period, children show situational-imitative self-expression, and it depends on the amount of knowledge, information, as well as on the conditions in which the child finds himself.
Self-expression at this age acquires new qualitative characteristics, the child can express emerging images in various ways: in movement, in feelings and emotions, in images and signs. Self-expression therapy is a current and growing area of psychological assistance. The most popular at the present stage are art therapy and dance-movement therapy.
A child of senior preschool age enters the stage of improvisational and effective self-expression.
Based on this, we can conclude that each child goes through stages of self-expression: in the younger preschool age, the reflex-impulsive nature of self-expression, in the middle preschool age, situational-imitative self-expression, the older preschooler enters the stage of improvisational-effective self-expression, in children of the preparatory group, improvisation is activated but-figurative self-expression.
Thus, we can say that preschool age is sensitive for the development of the foundations of a child’s creative self-expression.

In our work we present the experience of studying the role of the family in the development of children’s creative abilities in fine arts. The study was conducted in kindergarten No. 176 “Squirrel” ANO DO “Planet of Childhood” Lada “, Tolyatti, Samara Region. The study involved children of middle groups and their parents. Fine arts include the emotional and intellectual aspects of a child’s life. V.A. Sukhomlinsky wrote: “During childhood, mental processes should be as closely connected as possible with living, bright, visual objects of the surrounding world … The emotional richness of perception is the spiritual charge of children’s creativity. ” The world in which the baby lives and grows up largely depends on what feelings we, adults, bring into it.
How often and not always rightfully educating and significant for a preschooler adults, with their worries about material comfort, forget about creating elementary conditions for the development and creative self-expression of children .
We carried out our work on studying the actual problem in two stages, within one month. At the first stage – diagnostic – a survey of parents was conducted on the topic: “Conditions for the child’s creative self-expression in art.” It turned out that not all parents of children aged 3-5 understand the meaning of the question asked. 65% of the respondents answered: “We do not interfere with the child to draw, so we create conditions for creativity.” To the question: “Do you visit exhibitions, museums with your children?”, “Do you discuss books, TV shows, films that you have read with your children?” the majority answered, “Unfortunately, no. ” At the same time, 87% of the parents surveyed note that they have mutual understanding, common activities and hobbies with their children. The results of the survey of parents once again confirm the relevance of the stated problem. The results of further experimental work showed that already in the middle preschool age it is possible to teach children to express their emotions and feelings through independent creative activity: drawing, appliqué, modeling, manual labor, which means teaching them to think creatively, to be an empathic, responsive person, capable of reflecting their feelings. It was concluded that the participation of kindergarten teachers alone is not enough, it is necessary to involve parents in solving the problem.
At the second stage of the study, we offered the parents of pupils to create conditions in the family for independent activities of children to complete a creative task on the topic: “My mood”. Previously, a consultation was held with parents on the topic: “How to create the right conditions for creative self-expression of children in fine arts. ” The work performed provided an opportunity to analyze the role relationships in the family, as well as the attitude of the parents themselves to the creative task. 76% of parents did the work together with their children: dad painted a Christmas tree, and the child decorated it with toys; mother drew a fish, and the child drew algae around it, etc. Part of the work (14%) was done by the parents themselves, without the participation of the child. 10% of parents create the necessary conditions for the child’s creativity, but at the same time they do not directly participate, the children work independently.
Later, using the results of the creative joint activities of children and parents, we conducted a cycle of combined classes in order to form in children an idea of role relationships in the family and family values; created conditions for creativity, encouraging the child’s need for self-expression through creativity, as a result of which an exhibition of drawings was designed, dedicated to the mood of people.

Late in the evening of November 19, 2009 at
the Moscow church of the Apostle Thomas on Kantemirovskaya was killed
priest Daniil Sysoev : masked unknown
entered the temple and shot him point-blank.
I knew Father Daniel for ten years – since October 1999
of the year. We met at a conference where both
performed. He called me the day before, and on the very day
speeches, I saw a person walking in front of me in
cassock, and immediately realized that this was the same
“Deacon Daniil Sysoev,” with whom I spoke
phone.
There was something in his voice and in his walk that expressed
its uniqueness and made it possible to unmistakably recognize even in
crowd, even from the back, even to an almost stranger.
Shortly before his death, in an interview, Father Daniel
said: “We must walk with God, as
The Lord about Enoch: “Enoch walked with God, and God
took him”. This is walking with God
mission root.
Father Daniel always “walked before God.” And although
it is, first of all, the state of the soul, wholly aspiring to
God, but it found its expression even literally
– in his gait, speech, not to mention actions and
words.
He walked easily, like a man who knows where and why
walks, who is calm in the present and does not worry about
future, because he entrusted all his worries to the Lord, who
close to him as a Loving Father.
During these ten years, I heard many times from Father Daniel that
he would like to die as a martyr. I’m afraid now from my words
it doesn’t sound like it came out of his mouth. In his
there was no gloomy solemnity in speeches about martyrdom,
no painful exaltation; he said it simply
joyfully, and when I heard it, I experienced the same feeling of embarrassment and
bewilderment, which he also experienced when he read in
the messages of Hieromartyr Ignatius the God-bearer about his ardent
desire to suffer for Christ. The same spirit was in
one and the other, but I did not understand either one or the other.
I remember how a couple of years ago in Macedonia, where we were together
arrived, I brought Father Daniel to the amphitheater of the ancient
the city of Bitola. In the days of the Roman Empire, here for fun
a crowd of pagans were fed to the beasts of people. On the sides
amphitheater, two small rooms have been preserved in which
kept the beasts before releasing them into the arena, and
center – one closet in human growth, from where
the condemned went out to be torn to pieces. It is known for sure
that in this amphitheater they accepted death for
Christ several martyrs of the early Church. And I told my father
Daniel: “Here, father, you can stand where you stood
martyrs before going out on a feat. And he entered this
dark closet. I remember how he stood in it and looked from there
into the sky.
Probably, with the same concentrated calmness, he
looked at his killer. To be honest, I’ve been thinking about
Did the father get scared at the last moment? Because I
would be scared. And so I asked the only eyewitness,
who saw the murder with his own eyes: what did his father do
Daniel, when, coming out of the altar, he saw a man in a mask with
gun in hand? And he heard: “He went to him.
Right on him.”
Priest Daniil Sysoev was born on January 12, 1974.
He was baptized at the age of three. Brought up in
church family. I remember he told me about dear
childhood memories: how his mother read his lives to him at night
saints.
He was a conscious believer from childhood, which
proceeded even under the godless communist regime.
There is a well-known story when in a Soviet school
an atheist teacher put him in front of the whole class and with
mockingly began to say: “Here, guys! Danila
Turns out we believe in God. Maybe you also pray
You know?”. And the boy answered firmly: “Yes, in
I believe God! And I know the prayers!
Batiushka took faith seriously from a very young age.
According to him, from the age of 12 he is even with his parents, if they
presented him with any fundamental demands,
asked for their biblical justification, and if he received it, then
performed without question. This already reflected
his main desire is always and in everything to recognize the will
God and follow it. He preferred God to everything
the rest, and the will of God – every other.
I know many good priests in Russia, but never
met with us a man who would be so strong, ardent and
selflessly loved God, like Father Daniel. Just
shortly before his death, being on one of
categorical conversations of the priest, I thought that only deeply
a loving person can never stop talking two with
half an hour about God and only about God, and to speak in such a way that
the audience listens without moving for two and a half hours.
Back in Soviet times, he sang on the kliros, and after graduation
schools at 1991 entered the Moscow Spiritual
seminary. He told me that he always wanted to be
a priest, and did not represent himself as anyone else. This
desire originated in childhood, when he experienced a clinical
death and saw an angel who brought his soul back to
body.
In 1995 Father Daniel got married, graduated from seminary and was
ordained deacon. From that moment it began
extensive preaching and missionary activity. He
taught the law of God in the senior classes of the Orthodox
Gymnasium “Yasenevo” I remember one of his
stories about that time. He once gave the students a topic for
essay “What will be left after me? What will I take from
yourself?” And some parents came to him later
indignant: “Is it possible to give children such
Topics? They don’t need to be reminded of death. ” What does he
answered: “What, is your child immortal?”.
Father Daniel was convinced that since the death of none of
we can’t be avoided, we need to approach it properly
prepare, and for this a Christian has everything
necessary, and the sooner you start preparing, the better.
Since 1996, Father Daniel began to conduct missionary talks on
Krutitsy Compound, was an associate of Father Anatoly
(Berestova) in the Counseling Center named after him
Righteous John of Kronstadt. He met and
talked with sectarians and occultists, preaching to them and
converting them to Orthodoxy.
Apart from Father Daniel, I do not know another person who
could boldly enter any audience and start a conversation with
a person of any religious views – and at the same time
he always had something to say on the merits. He was true
missionary and loved to tell people about Christ, loved,
when from the lamp of his soul other souls were kindled with fire
gospel joy.
Batiushka greatly revered his heavenly patron –
prophet Daniel, and just from him received a missionary
aspiration, as he himself told me. Sometime while reading
the book of the prophet Daniel, the priest drew attention to the words:
“And the prudent will shine like the luminaries in the firmament, and
who turned many to the truth – like stars, forever,
forever” (Dan. 12:3). “And I thought,
he said, – and it’s great: to shine like
star!”.
I know that he did the Jesus Prayer, considered very
it is important to take communion often – having prepared properly
way – and constantly read the Bible, which,
seems to have largely known by heart. Prayer,
the Eucharist and the word of God – these were for him
three main foundations of mission.
During his lifetime, he baptized more than 80 Muslims and converted to
Orthodoxy about 500 Protestants.
Father Daniel went to Protestant meetings and
preached there about Orthodoxy on the basis of the Bible,
participated in public disputes with the Old Believers, with
neo-pagans, but he was best known as
missionary among Muslims and polemist with Islam.
He received threatening letters and calls from Muslims. Behind
a year and a half before the assassination, Muslim journalist H.
Khamidullina filed a complaint against him with the prosecutor’s office
demand to file a lawsuit for inciting interreligious and
interethnic hatred. The prosecutor’s office denied
initiating a case, but in the Muslim media it was promoted
a real campaign to denigrate Father Daniel –
Orthodox people do not know about this, because, according to understandable
reasons, not familiar with the Muslim media.
More recently, just three days before the murder, father
Daniel drove me home by car, and we laughed
reminiscing about ten years ago. Father Daniel
said that of all religions, the least interesting to him
there was always Islam and he did not intend to use it at all
study. I also recalled our old conversation when we
were returning from the Krutitsy Compound and he rejoiced,
learning that I write apologetic articles in response to
Muslim criticism: “That’s good, so I don’t
will have to deal with it. ” But the Lord then through one
coincidence, then through another arranged so that
he had to deal with Muslims or the topic
Islam, and Father Daniel went where the Lord indicated. This
was the most important thing for him.
In 2000 he graduated from the Moscow Theological Academy and
successfully defended his thesis on the topic “Anthropology
Jehovah’s Witnesses and Seventh Day Adventists. She
later published as a separate book. He also wrote a series
other works. “Walking with a Protestant through
Orthodox Church” is a unique work, in
which, on the basis of the Bible, explains the structure and
decoration of an Orthodox church and Orthodox worship.
“Chronicle of the beginning” and ““ Who is like
God?”, or How long was the day of creation?
devoted, as he himself said, to the defense of the patristic
doctrine of the creation of the world. In them Father Daniel explains,
why can’t an orthodox christian adhere to
evolutionary theory.
“Marriage with a Muslim” – a book,
dedicated to one of the most painful issues
coexistence of Christians and Muslims in our country.
The impetus for its emergence was the fact that I am on the site
“Orthodoxy and Islam” opened a section
“Question to the priest”, where you could ask
question to father Daniel. And I was struck by the abundance
letters from baptized women who are or were about to go out
marry Muslims and asked if it was permissible from the point of view
of the Church, or have already entered into such a marriage and
encountered some problems in resolving
who were asked for advice. Moreover, in the pastoral
practice, Father Daniel had to meet with such
Russian women who, under the influence of such marriages,
renounced Christ and converted to Islam, and then, having suffered
in a Muslim marriage and realizing his fall, with the help of
priests came to repentance and return to the Church. All
this prompted Father Daniel to write a book in which
he exhaustively considers the indicated question, recalling,
that, according to the rules of the Church, an Orthodox person does not
it is permissible to marry or be married to a non-Christian, and
giving concrete advice on problems that arise,
if such a marriage is still concluded. The father also had
one related brochure – “Married to
unbeliever?”
In addition, Father Daniel published the book “Why are you still
not baptized?”, in which the most typical
objections to baptism that can be heard from the mouth
the most ordinary people. For those who are baptized but
unchurched, he wrote the pamphlet Why
go to church every Sunday? And for the people
churched – the book “On the frequent communion
Mysteries of Christ”, which we wrote with him in
co-authorship.
Shortly before his death, he told me that the most for him
dearest and favorite of his books is “Conversations on
book of the Song of Songs, compiled from notes
Bible talks that he led for many years, explaining
Holy Scripture based on patristic interpretations.
Finally, his most recent book –
“Instruction for Immortals, or What to do if you
still died…” It also contains these words:
“The best death for a Christian, of course,
martyr for Christ the Savior. This is the very best
death, which is possible for a person in principle.
Some sent condolences to Optina Pustyn after
the murders of three monks; for a Christian, it really is
the greatest joy. Never in the ancient Church
no condolences were sent when someone was killed somewhere.
All churches always sent congratulations immediately.
Imagine congratulating them on having a new
Protector in Heaven! Martyrdom washes away everything
sins, except heresy and schism…”
Quite a few, even among those who did not agree with him
on any issues, were surprised and admired his
courage. Most recently, after the funeral, I called
familiar priest and told how he saw the footage where the father
Daniel stands alone in an auditorium filled with Muslims and
from the pulpit joyfully tells them about Christ and that Islam,
who rejects the God-man Christ cannot be true
religion. “It’s not in my head,
the interlocutor told me. What kind of heart
one must have to go like this and stand among them and
speak!”.
The footage that my friend saw was taken on the first
dispute with Muslims. Some Orthodox were
dissatisfied with the fact that Father Daniel in these disputes
participated, but the initiative did not belong to him:
the Muslims publicly invited him. And how could a witness
Christ refuse to give an account of his hope? His refusal
would be an argument for them in their propaganda of Islam.
Father Daniel told me later that he was sure that
he would be killed immediately after the first dispute, and the day before
experienced intense fear and anxiety. And at night he was
vision. He saw himself standing in front of a laid out
labyrinths of pebbles, such as are found in the north. And passing through
his circles, came to the center, where the altar was, on
where the just tortured and murdered victim lay. And he
realized that this is the altar of Satan, to whom the
victim. Father Daniel was seized with anger, and he overturned with his foot
altar. Satan himself appeared in the form of the Joker in
clownish cap, as it is depicted on playing
maps. There was wild hatred in his eyes, and he rushed
to Father Daniel. The father began to pray: “Most Holy
Mother of God, protect! Saint Nicholas, help! And
other saints. And then, in front of Father Daniel, it was as if she had grown
invisible wall, so that Satan rushed at him, but did not
could overcome it and bounce back time after time. Looking
to this, the father allowed conceited thoughts into himself, and at that
At the same moment, Satan broke through an invisible wall and grabbed him by the
throat. Father Daniel prayed: “Holy Mother of God,
forgive me, I have sinned, deliver me from him.” Then
Satan disappeared, and Father Daniel was told about the upcoming
debate: “You won’t lose, but you won’t win either.”
“That’s how it happened,” he told me.
Father Daniel. And he added that after this vision
ceased to be afraid of Muslims and their threats, because, seeing
Satan himself and his powerlessness before God, it is no longer possible
be impressed by any human malice, which is always
yields to satanic malice.
And during the second dispute, I, together with my father Oleg
Stenyaev was among Father Daniil’s assistants.
It seems to me that the dispute went well (although, of course, it could
go even better). It is noteworthy that after it they accepted
Orthodoxy some Muslims who helped in
organizing these debates.
Himself being half Tatar (by mother), Father Daniel
paid special attention to the dissemination and strengthening
Orthodoxy among the Tatar people. He became the first and
seems to be the only priest who, with the blessing
hierarchies, began to regularly serve prayers at
Tatar language (partly) for Orthodox Tatars, published
for his money, a prayer book in Tatar. Together with their
as assistants, he went with a sermon and to Sabantuy (Tatar
national holiday), and to the Tatar cultural center; V
Egypt, he spent hours preaching to his Muslim guide,
on television argued about faith with muftis.
He gained notoriety among Muslims
– she frightened and embarrassed some Orthodox, but
only not Father Daniel himself. He said that this
fame helps him in his mission, and it was true.
Because those Muslims who had at least a weak
interest in Christianity, found out in this way, to whom they
you have to go – and they were not mistaken, because they could always
be greeted with love and hear answers to all their
questions. There were Muslims who came to him to
convert him to Islam, and as a result they themselves accepted from
him baptism.
Among those who call themselves Orthodox, I have met such
strange people who say he shouldn’t have
to preach to Muslims what should be done with respect
treat their religion that no good of it
no sermon. But Father Daniel believed – like
Lord, and the apostles, and all the saints – what to respect
erring people are needed, but not their delusions. True
one, and that which contradicts and denies truth is
falsehood, and respect for falsehood is contempt for truth. This
a simple thing cannot be understood by all those to whom the truth
indifferent, so they did not understand Father Daniel either, although,
maybe they owe him their lives. Father was able to turn to
Christ a number of Wahhabis, including one Pakistani,
who was going to become a “shaheed”, and one
a woman who was being prepared to become a “suicide bomber”.
And what, really, it would really be better if the father
Daniel did not preach to these people, and they, remaining on
the same way, they would blow up a plane, a house, or a train in the subway
– perhaps just the one in which someone would ride
of Father Daniel’s critics?
Even more successfully he preached to Protestants. When he,
with the blessing of Metropolitan Vladimir, came along with
with his missionaries to Kyrgyzstan and began to visit there
Protestant congregations and convert them so that even pastors
were among those joined to Orthodoxy, then the local heads
sects, not being able to resist him in a word,
decided to forbid their people to gather at all
all the time while Father Daniel is in the country. So they
tried to prevent him from coming to their meetings with
preaching, abolishing the meetings themselves.
Father Daniel was very concerned about the mission throughout the world. Together
with him we went twice to Macedonia and preached
the schismatics there. Father Daniel investigated the question of
how to preach to Catholics in Western Europe and
In South America. In December 2009, he hoped to travel to
Thailand to preach to the northern tribes. Myself
as a missionary, he loved the missionaries very much and tried to
meet all who preach Christ. Very
he helped many. He gave money for the construction of the temple in
Indonesia, donated to the upbringing of Orthodox children from
poor families in Zimbabwe, hosted Orthodox
Chinese, Orthodox Thais, even Orthodox Indians.
With the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II, Father Daniel created
school of Orthodox missionaries. Also taught
Missiology at the Nikolo-Perervinskaya Theological Seminary.
And, surprisingly, his active missionary
activity did not in the least interfere with his parish labors and
duties. In 2001 he was ordained a priest.
In 2006, the priest built a small wooden church in
the name of the Apostle Thomas in the south of Moscow (whose rector
was) and wanted to eventually build here a huge
temple-basilica in honor of his heavenly patron, the prophet
Daniel. As he told me, this idea is for him to build
the basilica – came to mind during a visit
Church of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius in Thessaloniki.
In the temple, Father Daniel led Bible conversations every Thursday,
explaining to the parishioners one chapter of the Old Testament and one
head of the New in the light of patristic teaching, each
Friday – Announcements that were supposed to
listen to every adult who wants to be baptized, and every
Sunday – Sunday school for children. Wishing
so that people could better understand worship, he published texts
all-night vigil and liturgy and made it a duty
on duty to distribute them to people in the temple before each service.
He also introduced popular singing. As a result, parishioners
thanked him for being able to finally understand the meaning
what is sung in the temple. Father served very
concentrated, especially in the last year, and loved
preach. During the service he delivered two or three sermons.
One of my friends, an altar boy in the church of Father Daniel,
shortly before the death of the father confessed to me that
wonders how without a trace and without mercy to himself
he gives himself to other people, especially parishioners.
Indeed, he did not feel sorry for himself. I remember once he broke
leg, but the dean did not give him a priest to replace him. AND
then Father Daniel, with his leg in a cast, went to the temple himself and
served through pain. All parishioners and all acquaintances
Father Daniel is remembered as a cheerful and
cheerful, but few people know how often he endured
grief from illnesses, especially from severe headaches and from
heart pain. But the priest did not show his suffering and
was always attentive to the numerous parishioners, each
listened and gave advice.
Of course, Father Daniel also had weaknesses, but even his
shortcomings, so to speak, in some way
stemmed from his merit. As a Christian he was
open to everyone, and this had its downside
some excessive credulity, the victim of which he sometimes
became when he happened to trust those people or
books that, in my opinion, should not be trusted. IN
When it comes to matters of faith, Batiushka was very
careful, but as far as some other
questions, such as history, he could trust just
such sources. Related to this, for example, is
attitude towards World War II
under the influence of books by V. Rezun. On this issue, we have repeatedly
discussed with him.
I must say, the priest never imposed dictatorial
his views to those who were near him. He always
listened carefully to objections, if any.
essence, and often corrected his views if
saw that they were not true. He often invited
me and other people whom he trusted to discuss those
or other thoughts and ask if he is mistaken. If
he understood that he was wrong, then it was not a problem for him
admit it and give up erroneous thoughts, because
he most of all valued the truth, and not his own thoughts, and respectfully
treated every person who was near.
With Father Daniel it was easy to fulfill the rule of the blessed
Augustine; “In the main unity, in the secondary
diversity, in everything – love. Second point
was possible with him precisely because for Father Daniel
were an immutable reality, the first and third points of this
maxims.
Another feature that seemed to many to be his
defect and which came precisely from the fiery
Father Daniel’s love for the truth was a categorical form
submission of thoughts. On every issue, the father tried
get to the bottom of the truth, and if he managed to get to the bottom,
he expressed this truth directly and definitely. In our
in the politically correct world, such frankness was like a witticism
a beam that pierces the darkness. Someone so honest harshness
attracted, and someone, on the contrary, repelled.
I myself did not always agree with the form of presentation of his thoughts.
For example, the discussion about Ouranopolitism, initiated by him in
last year of life. In principle, in essence Father Daniel
expounded nothing but the doctrine of the Church, saying that
the heavenly is more important than the earthly, that belonging to the Church
more important than nationality, because in it “there is no
neither Greek nor Jew … but everything and in everything
Christ” (Col. 3:11), that all the saints
“they said about themselves that they were strangers and strangers on
earth; for those who say so show that they
looking for a fatherland. And if they had that fatherland in their thoughts,
from which they came, they would have had time to return; but they
strived for the best, that is, for the heavenly; therefore God is not
ashamed of them, calling himself their God: for he has prepared for them
city” (Heb. 11:13-16). And that we all
Christians, also on earth “aliens and
strangers” (1 Pet. 2:11) and “we do not have here
a permanent city, but we are looking for the future” (Heb. 13:14),
for “our residence is in heaven” (Phil.
3:20). There was no mistake here. But here with
the need to introduce a special term I was not with my father
Daniel agrees, as well as the term itself seemed to me
dissonant, and the form of expression of this truth, it was thought
I could be softer.
Although, strictly speaking, those who fiercely argued with him in
Internet, either disagreed on the merits, or
were not at all interested in the essence of the matter. It’s worth saying
that after the death of the father, I learned that even in the term
he was not an innovator: the word “Uranopolite”
(ouranopolitis) is found in many holy fathers, in
In particular, Saint John Chrysostom uses it five
once.
On the day of Father Daniel’s funeral, one of his opponents told me
confessed: “It was now that I began to understand everything
that my father wrote about Ouranopolitism, because very
I wanted to go where he went. ”
Father Daniel was a deeply decent and honest man.
Batiushka was one of those about whom it was possible to know in advance that
if you need something, you just need to contact, and he will not
refuse. For me, he was a model priest. Everything he
did, he consecrated to Christ, created in His name.
I have many personal memories. I remember how he
visited me when I was in the hospital. I remember how I took
show me your daughter Dorothea when she was only two
or three days old. I remember teaching me how to drive.
I remember our travels, and especially the last – in
Serbia, from where we returned only a week before
martyrdom. During this trip, he confessed
me that when it becomes especially difficult for him or when
life circumstances are unbearable, he always
feels as if he is in a huge hand, which
guides him through all troubles.
The very last day of Father Daniel’s earthly life began with
liturgy, which he celebrated and at which, of course,
took communion. Then he joined the Orthodox Church
a woman who came from the Old Believers. Then committed
baptism. A few hours later he began, as usual, to lead
Bible talks, after which he talked late into the night with
by everyone. Finally, when there is almost no one in the temple
left, went to the altar to confess his spiritual child.
At this time, a murderer burst into the temple, who began to shoot
and shout out: “Where is Sysoev?” Father Daniel
fearlessly walked out of the altar to meet him and accepted
martyrdom for Christ.
I remember that the priest spoke more than once about how it turns out
it is no coincidence that all the gospel readings read in
liturgical conceptions, as always they are on
surprisingly timely and relevant.
On the day of his death, an ordinary gospel reading contained
these words of the Lord: “I say to you, my friends:
do not be afraid of those who kill the body and then can do nothing more
do… I tell you, everyone who confesses
Me before men, and the Son of Man will confess before
angels of God.

If you’re looking for a daycare center in Orlando, we offer an exceptional preschool program that uses a hands-on approach to help your child grow. With a safe learning environment, we will ensure that your child gets the love and encouragement they deserve to thrive.

How much it cost me to get into Google and get promoted without working there a single day / Habr
December 2020, the second wave of Covid is in full swing I am a remote PM in an American company. After my father’s funeral in Tbilisi, I was in prostration, I had to return to the USA and somehow change my position, because the money I earned was clearly not enough for a normal life. The very memories of my previous search caused me a cold chill and some inner voice quietly whispered: “wait, now there is a pandemic, many people dream of this, somehow get out …”.
Every day I tried to kill the pissant in me, and convinced that the crisis is always new opportunities, but the next day, he still crawled back and whined familiar phrases to nausea.
I registered a US number on Google Voice so that recruiters would start calling me and start sending out resumes. I sent out about a hundred adapted resumes and indicated on LinkedIn that I was actively looking for a job. Gradually, recruiters from small companies began to contact me, but I understood that the conditions in them would be at best 40% better than the current one, and this still did not solve my problems. Although it seemed that there were thousands of positions on LinkedIn, I had exhausted the main employers. I served mainly on Sr. Project Manager or Engineering Manager positions.
The realization came when I started reading teamblind. com – the best resource in the US for market analysis in IT and levels.fyi where you can see real salaries. I used to read Glassdoor, but the information on it is outdated.
It turned out that in the financial sector in the USA, which I was interested in, there are poor conditions and a toxic culture, the same in consulting except for companies from Big4 or MBB where you have to work long hours, but it is possible to receive 1+ million dollars a year by rising to partner. The most interesting were companies that call FAANG (Fb, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google) sometimes use FAANGMULA instead of this list, rightly adding Microsoft, Uber, Lyft and Airbnb there – all of them are technological, innovative companies that not only create business products, but and technologies used all over the world. Companies that create de facto standards for the development of digital products, invest in scientific research, create legendary conditions for their employees, which attract the smartest engineers and scientists from all over the world.
Why waste time trying to get into a company that I’ll be transferring from anyway in a year or two?! On the other hand, the language did not turn to refuse real offers with a salary of 30-40% more than my current one.
But how do you get an interview at FAANGMULA? I’ve sent dozens of resumes to them before, but I’ve never received a response. I asked some people I knew who worked for these companies to make me a recommendation, but I got hints that they should be offered money or they were just reluctant to do so. The only reference they gave me was at Microsoft (Thanks to Sl.), but they never called me from there. I started to figure it out and found a service where for $50 you can get a reference to almost any big company, and then I generally found a way to do it for free – just anonymously ask about it in Blind, where there is a great community of people ready to help for free.
Voila – and in a week I get an interview with Amazon, Google, Facebook! Isn’t it a miracle?
In parallel, I agreed to an interview with everyone who called, for practice and experience, and, well, in case there was a special match with my Wishlist. And since, thanks to covid, it was possible to intervene online, this did not prevent me from working and preparing for the main events.
Of the interesting interviews I had in several banks. At City Bank, I was going to the position of senior vice president of digital lending development with a hundred engineers. During the interview, I was not asked ANY questions regarding my qualifications. They looked at my charisma, flexibility, and then verbally offered a good amount. Hell, if they select employees like that, then I’m sure there will be a lot of people there to deal with jokes and intrigues, but who will work, I thought, and refused to continue. In other banks and fintech startups, they started asking me in detail about specific algorithms, or the CEO interrupted everyone and started asking me about the details of Georgian cuisine. I think I got this far in all of these interviews because I didn’t take them seriously at first, and I wasn’t afraid to throw in a joke or ask a pointed question, and I was generally confident.
Another bank sent me an invitation for 4 interviews on the same day and one of the calls was at 8 am. I think it is strange that without approval they sent me such an early invitation. An hour later, I receive a letter from the recruiter asking for a morning call – I answer that “everything is OK, I have already received the invitation”, but it turned out that he asks to reschedule this call even earlier – to 7 in the morning. I agreed, and when I connected at 7 am, a bright yellow blonde in a business suit was waiting for me there. And this is in America at a distance! At that time, I already had a hundred interviews behind me, including Google, Fb, Amazon, and this was very different from the overall picture. What a signal she wanted to send me by scheduling an interview so early, in a suit at a distance, talking without a single smile. Perhaps in Europe or another country it could be normal, I myself love costumes, but definitely not in the USA. And yes, I didn’t pass the interview.
The first call with Google lasted 30 minutes, I talked about the current project and my experience. A day later, they sent me a letter notifying me that I had passed the screening with the recruiter, and then I was waiting for an interview with a Googler working in the role that I applied for. It was as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over me – I realized that everything was serious now, I had a chance to get an interview with the best company in the world, which I had dreamed of since my student days, when I filed a whole search engine for the Georgian Internet and won with her university olympiad.
Two weeks later, I was scheduled for stage II at Google – 45-60 minutes with another TPM (Technical Program Manager) where the interviewer touches on a couple of questions from all areas of the interview (design, teamwork, leadership, etc.) If he finds a weak spot , then that’s where it ends.
I was lucky that I began to prepare a month before I had my first call with Google, and therefore I had, in general, several months to fully prepare. I think that other guys, repeating my steps, will be able to get similar results.
I also passed this stage thanks to 6 sessions with different coaches and a lot of material worked out, and now I was waiting for a full day of the so-called onsite interview – five hour interviews in a row. Previously, they were held at the company’s office, but due to the pandemic, everything moved online. A similar format is now used by almost all large technical corporations. Each interviewer has his own goal, for which he (a) is looking for signals in the answers. For example, the focus may be to determine your relationship with users, and you will be asked about how you lead a project or manage changes, with the hope of hearing your approach to this in the answers.
3 out of 5 interviews were behavioral interviews where I was asked how I managed risks, resolved conflicts, gave the user more than they asked for, and when I made decisions without having enough data to do so.
Preparing for an interview, you need to understand what exactly your interviewers will try to hear in each session, and this, by the way, is not quite simple. In Amazon’s case, it’s a few specific principles from their 14 core leadership principles, but on Facebook, they don’t measure by their 5 principles. In the case of Google, I have adapted my answers by showing:
The primacy of the user’s interests
The ability to enter and exit conflicts with an emphasis on the interests and health of employees.
When I didn’t know what to demonstrate in response to a specific question, I reduced it to one of Amazon’s leadership principles, and although this did not always fit the company’s culture, at least the answers had a strong logic. That is, the Amazonian principles have become such a basis for my interviewing strategy for all companies. Therefore, when aiming at FAANG, I advise you to start preparing with Amazon.
In short, my formula for success was
Coaching! This is probably the most important of all points, it is unlikely that I would have succeeded without it. I have tried different coaches and here are a few that I think are the best. For each company, before the interview, I took several sessions with coaches who have worked for many years in these companies and participated in hundreds of interviews. They honed my stories for behavioral interviews for a specific company. Write, I can advise superstars for Google and Amazon.
Training interviews with other applicants on the Igotanoffer.com, tryexponent.com portals. In total, I spent 20-30 sessions in which we took turns intervening and giving feedback for an hour.
Before the main day of the Google interview, I had a couple of weeks. I started the countdown. The focus of my whole life has become one – not to miss anything. I took a few days off and spent dozens of hours researching everything on the Internet that could help me, I read a few books, I studied and monitored chats and forums. Every day I had several interviews, whether they were training, with coaches or in real, but in secondary companies for me. A week later, I had a successful FB and Amazon screening, and I also needed to start preparing for their afternoon virtual-onsite interview.
If you don’t pass an interview with all these companies, then you can get to the next interview at best a year later, so I practically cut off communication not only with friends and acquaintances, but even with my son and mother, I left the house only for food and in the hall – to squeeze out horror and irritation.
I must pass! I must win!
The more I invested, the more important it became to me. I bought all the PM interviewing courses and honed my interviewing skills with people and just myself on paper. At some point, the interview with Google was postponed for a week and I remember how confusion visited me – there was more time than was originally planned. I stupidly did not know how to use it and what to study. For conceptual knowledge, this was not enough, but for patching holes too much. I started racing, am I wasting time correctly, or maybe I’m missing something ….
One evening, my girlfriend and I went out to dinner at a nearby bar and we struck up a conversation with a black, cheerful guy. At some point, he took out a business card and it turned out that he works at Google. When I told him about my case, he said – don’t be nervous now you are in good hands, you have a sponsor, call me tomorrow and we will discuss the next steps.
Miracle! Or is it some kind of sign? What is another sponsor?
When I wrote to him the next day, as you might expect, he sent me the standard recruitment information from Google and said that he would be happy to celebrate success with me (if successful), but now he can’t help. Such a gentleman, it’s still funny when I remember.
The interview was scheduled for Monday. The day before, it was a sunny March day, I decided to take a break – I walked around Brooklyn, ate ice cream, bought a couple of T-shirts. After lunch I returned home. It was starting to get dark, and there was a party going on in the bar by the house. As soon as I entered the entrance, a shootout began, where my neighbor was shot and someone was wounded. The shooters got into cars and the chase began.
That night I didn’t manage to rest and sleep, sirens and screams outside the windows, two noisy helicopters hung at a low altitude. At about three o’clock in the morning, I threw off my earplugs and trudged to the refrigerator to eat mint ice cream with a tablespoon. So much preparation and now everything can break down due to the fact that I just can’t sleep.
I stood in what my mother gave birth in the living room flooded with light from the next house in front of large windows and looked at the departing train, I understood that I had done my best, but this did not guarantee me good luck. Everything is the will of God, and tomorrow we must accept what will be, with gratitude, and move on. Whatever happened. And if I have to succeed, then I will not be prevented by any problems with the Internet, or fucking helicopters, or gaps in my training. And after many years, I fell on the wooden floor and prayed hard for a long time.
Thinking what ELSE I can do, I wandered off to make myself a background for a virtual call, but in the morning I still passed out so that I almost overslept the beginning.
A week of silence followed the interview. For every phone call and email, my heart began to flutter, but there was still no news, in the meantime, I was in full swing preparing for Amazon and Facebook. This time I was not so nervous, because I knew what to expect.
These days I did a poll on Blind to find out how many attempts it took on average for participants to get into FAANG. It turned out that one third of the respondents got there already after 9attempts! In Google, 1 out of 200 applicants gets a full interview cycle, and 1 out of 5 passes this interview with a positive result.
With Facebook, my mistake was that I did not work with a coach specifically for Facebook, as I was told that Facebook is a simplified version of the Google interview, but this is not true at least for the TPM role, which, unlike Google, contains also features Product Owner. In a systems design session, I was asked to build a food delivery system. After defining the requirements, I began to paint a high-level architecture, and I was asked to describe how I would prioritize the requirements and what kind of UI the application would have. I quickly responded and started to continue talking about the technical components, but from the follow-up questions, I realized that the interviewer wanted more information about the product, which I was not quite ready to answer. As a result, I did not pass the interview, but the impressions from FB were very positive.
The Amazon interview was a little different. First, I was asked to write an essay on one of two standard topics. I chose the topic – “what is the most innovative thing I have done in my life. ” I spent about 15 hours writing two drafts and reading all sorts of tips on how to do it right.
Interviews were chaotic, if on Google and Facebook I had 5-10 minutes between sessions for biological needs, then with Amazon the previous interviewer went beyond his hour and the next interviewer had to wait and listen to us. And so non-stop.
In a systems design session at Amazon, I was asked to build a security system for elevators in buildings. An interesting task, I have not seen such examples in the courses that I took. As a result, we had an hour-long discussion, in which I drew this diagram. The interviewer seemed to be very pleased.
An interesting insight that I made for myself was that it’s better not to talk about agile or in general about a specific management methodology. It was evident that in all three companies adherence to some fixed methodology was seen more as a limitation than a plus. In banks, by the way, it was the opposite, there were questions about the knowledge of Scrum and SAFe.
It’s been 10 days since the Google interview, I felt like I was going crazy, I was demotivated to stay at my current job, and I couldn’t understand what Google’s long silence meant.
I was completely burned out, had lunch, and then could not remember if I ate at all, not to mention the fact that I absolutely did not remember what exactly I ate. On the emotional plane, I also became like a robot, and it was not easy to get out of this state.
In the afternoon, a call came from an unknown number – a recruiter from Google called and slowly said that I received positive feedback from and she is preparing my case for the recruitment committee.
Hurray!!! I screamed and jumped around the apartment with happiness! I couldn’t believe I made it!
She asked me for a few contacts inside and outside of Google who to contact to get feedback on me, which should have solidified my case for the committee.
It was no less a miracle to find out that I also went to Amazon, but I was not going to work with them because there were many posts about their toxic culture and bad attitude towards employees. Amazon was important to me in order to have a competitive offer that would allow me to negotiate a better salary with Google.
I bought tickets to Mexico to relax and celebrate, and this could have been the point of my story, but it wasn’t. Three more interesting months of negotiations and additional interviews were waiting for me!
After the approval of the committee, I was assigned the fourth level. I did not quite understand what this meant and started the so-called team-matching calls. That is, after passing the interview, I got into the list of approximately 40 program managers who were interviewed, who met with different teams on Google, and if both parties liked each other, then the applicant was already made an official offer. Such is the Google Tinder, where some candidates could hang like that for up to a year.
The first two calls were with the hardware teams in the data center. It was a nightmare! The last thing I wanted to do in my life was to do this. And plus you had to move to rainy Seattle! At some point, I thought that it’s not so bad for me to work in the current company …
After a few calls, I did find an interesting team working in Silicon Valley. Hooray, there is a coincidence!
A recruiter called me and named the range that Google is willing to pay. Compensation there is determined by three components – a base salary with an annual bonus, company shares and a bonus when signing a contract. To be honest, the offer I was given was far from the numbers I was dreaming of at levels.fyi, and I turned to one of my coaches for advice. The coach advised me to apply to one company that (attention!) deals only with helping candidates in the FAANGMULA company with salary negotiations.
I left a request on the site and already in the morning of the next day I had a real “interrogation” to find out all the details of my relationship with Google and Amazon recruiters. Then they sent me four files with a description of the strategy and verbatim scripts of negotiations. After they called me and checked how I learned them and even helped to correct the speed of phrases and focus.
A small fragment of scripts:
Although Google is known for being very reluctant to revise the assigned levels, thanks to this company I managed to do this. It saved me a couple of years of my career and allowed me to get a much higher salary. It is interesting that the head of the team with which we chose each other became my great lawyer. For her, this meant that if I passed the 5th level, I would no longer be able to work with her, since her role was only for the 4th level. Thank her very much for this! It was unexpected and confirmed my positive expectations of Google culture.
It took two more interviews, but it wasn’t that difficult, the conversation was free-flowing, where I talked about my previous projects. No complex behavioral or technical issues.
Then new team-matching calls started. There were fewer interested teams, and then I didn’t like them, then I didn’t like them. A month has passed. There are no matches with the teams and no new calls either. Will they still AT ALL??
When will this all end?!
Whistling in ears again. I started to get nervous.
Days have passed, several teams have appeared. One in New York and one in Mountain View California, both liked me. The choice is not easy.
On the one hand, I have already settled down in NY, and I like it, on the other hand, this is a chance to live in Silicon Valley and, it seems, this is the best place for a career. When if not now!? Moreover, the team from the Valley was undergoing a transformation, in which I usually feel comfortable, and in general they were engaged in game consoles, which, after fintech and government services with ironed collars, generally seemed like a fairy tale. So the decision has been made! Another move of thousands of kilometers and a new life!
The last step was a simple background check and salary negotiation. My negotiation consultant connected to them and helped me with the answers in the chat. After each call, the scripts were updated. It is interesting that with Amazon I could not reach the end and get an offer, I can’t even imagine how much time it would take me to end up with them, these guys are very slow. In the end, without even having a written parallel offer from Amazon, my consultants helped me negotiate 50% better compensation.
My dream came true!
So maybe yours! After all, I’m a simple guy, living only two years in the US, with no local education, no special acquaintances. That’s why I wrote this and previous articles. I hope that in the coming years, there will be more guys from the former Soviet countries in top companies!
And finally some numbers
My financial costs for the whole process are about $10,000
Number of interviews and team-matchings with Google (not including negotiations with a recruiter) – 21 sessions
Number of letters in correspondence with Google before receiving an offer – about 150
Duration of the process from submitting a resume to starting work – 6 months
If you have any questions or feedback, join me on my instagram 90 003
How much did it cost me get into Google and get promoted without working there a single day – Personal experience on vc.

*We left the text of the story unchanged and edited.
December 2020, the second wave of Covid is in full swing. I am a remote PM in an American company.
The realization came when I started reading teamblind.com – the best resource in the US for market analysis in IT and levels.fyi where you can see real salaries.
I started to figure it out and found a service where for $50 you can get a practical reference to any big company, and then I generally found a way to do it for free – just anonymously ask for it in Blind, where there is a great community of people ready to help for free.

In the afternoon I got a call from an unfamiliar number – a recruiter from Google called and slowly informed me that I had received positive reviews and she was preparing my case for the recruitment committee.
