Sight words are an essential aspect of language that is often difficult for young kids to grasp fully. You see, they fill a niche in the English language that people who have been speaking the language all their life will instinctively know regardless of your actual education on the matter.

However, young students may have a hard time understanding or identifying sight words, making teaching them a bit more tricky. Lesson objectives:

Educational:

To form an idea of compound words.
To introduce the method of formation and the method of spelling compound words.
To form the ability to distinguish between one’s own knowledge and ignorance using the example of spelling words.

To develop the ability to observe, compare, draw conclusions.
Develop cognitive activity.

Educational:

To cultivate independence, the ability to work in groups.
To develop the ability to conduct a learning dialogue.
Raise interest in the native language.

Equipment: textbook for grade 3 L.M. Zelenina “Russian language”, part 2.

Course of the lesson

I. Organizational moment

– Guys, check your readiness for the lesson: the desk should have a Russian language notebook, a textbook, a diary, a simple pencil, a pen.

II. Actualization of knowledge and skills, methods of action

2.1. Calligraphy.

Purpose: correction of calligraphic errors in writing the lowercase letter D.

Words written on the board: ice, move

– What do these words have in common? (number of letters, letter D at the end of words)

– Write these words beautifully and correctly, alternating on the line. Make sure the letter D is spelled correctly, the bottom loop should be below the bottom working line, and the intersection should be on the line.

Assessment of calligraphy skills.

2.2. Independent work.

– Pick up words with the same root for each word and write it down in two columns. Select their root.

Frontal check (several children one by one write down invented words on the board in two columns) .

– Prove that the words in each column have the same root (words have one root, one meaning)

– What helped you cope with the task? ( knowledge of the rule about the root of the word )

2. 3. Problematic situation.

A card with the word appears on the board

– In which group of related words will you write this word? (children’s answers)

– I believe that this word will be related to the first group of words. (“trap”)

– Can you now answer my question exactly? (no)

– Explain the lexical meaning of the word ( children’s answers )

– Write the word in a notebook. Highlight the root of the word. ( children themselves identify the root )

All options for completing this task are recorded on the board.

2.4. Fixing the gap in knowledge. Statement of the educational task.

– Why was the task given one, but you completed it differently? What difficulties arose? ( this word is different from other words we have met before )

– How is this word unusual? ( two words were combined in one word, and we have not met such words before )

– What do we not know? ( how to find the root in such words, whether this word is related or not )

– What learning task shall we set? ( how such words are formed and called, in which two words )

Put a question mark next to the word.

– How smart you are! So you will be able to keep going.

III. Discovery of a new method

3.1. Conversation.

– What questions do you have? I will write them on the board.

1. Is it possible to form one word from two different ones?

2. Can a word have two roots or always only one?

3. What are these words called?

(If the class is strong, then the children formulate questions; if the class is weak, the teacher helps)

– Do you want to know the answers to these questions? ( want )

3.2. Group work.

– To find answers to these questions, I suggest working in groups.

Each group has an envelope with a work plan and cards on the table:

Action plan:

1. Select the root in the words that are written on the cards.

2. Make a word: using cards with the letters O, E, I, A, connect these roots
(watch for a hard or soft consonant, the first root ends).

3. Read the word and use a dictionary to explain its meaning.

3.3. Checking and evaluation of group work.

A representative from the group goes to the blackboard and writes down the words received.

– What did you do to get a new word? ( we connected two roots )

– What action is there in mathematics to connect two parts? ( addition )

– So, to get a new word, you added two roots? (Yes)

How can you name all the words that are the result of addition? ( complex )

– How did we connect the two roots? (With the help of vowels O, E )

– How can these vowels be called? ( connecting )

3. 4. Create a helper schema.

Let’s return to the questions written on the board.

1. Is it possible to form one word from two different ones?

2. Can a word have two roots or always only one?

3. What are these words called?

Children’s answers.

– How can such words be sketched? (Two roots and a letter between them)

General conclusions.

– Are all words in Russian complex? ( no )

– How to determine that a word is compound? ( explain the meaning of the word, pick up words with the same root )

– When did you add the roots, in what cases did you use the connecting vowel O, and when – E) ( if hard – you need to write O, if soft – E )

– Have your knowledge changed? What new has been added to the already existing knowledge about the words of the Russian language? (there are simple words with one root, and compound words with two roots)

IV. Fizminutka

We were tired, we sat too long,
We wanted to warm up.
We put aside notebooks,
We started to exercise. (One hand up, the other down, jerkily change hands.)
Now they looked at the wall,
Then they looked out the window.
Right, left turn,
And then vice versa. (Turns with the body.)
We start squats,
bend the legs to the end.
Up and down, up and down,
Don’t rush to squat! (Squats.)
And they sat down for the last time,
And now they sat down at their desks. (Children sit at their desks.)

V. Primary consolidation of new knowledge

5.1 Work in pairs.

– Read the words. Find difficult words, write out and highlight the root in them. The first row – card No. 1, the second row – No. 2, the third row – No. 3

This work will be assessed when the teacher checks the notebooks.

VI. Control

– And now I suggest you play the game. Look at the slide.

– Make the correct words. Write down one word in your notebook.

About the Boarding House

The VEYA family-type boarding house is located in the resort village of Yakornaya Shchel in the Lazarevsky District of Sochi, in a quiet picturesque place, on the bank of a small mountain stream. This is a complex of elegant buildings and structures for 150 people, specially designed by Sochi architects. The location of the boarding house is ideal for those who like to relax and take a break from the stress of megacities: a closed area with access to the river, near the forest and mountains. The territory of the boarding house with an area of one hectare immediately behind the river adjoins the Sochi National Park. At the same time, the developed infrastructure – shops, pharmacies, cafes within walking distance, the beach is only 10-15 minutes walk, without descents and ascents (optional, delivery in 3-4 minutes by the boarding house transport, of course, free of charge for boarding house guests).

The boarding house has ideal conditions for families with children, including an equipped children’s playground, two swimming pools (for adults and children), a large playroom, sports grounds, a spacious green enclosed area with an orchard, hammocks, places to relax in the garden, table tennis, billiards, stationary chess, a gym, parking for cars. You will always find something to do with children or, conversely, take a break from them, entrusting their leisure time to the animator. All of the above for guests of the boarding house is free of charge, including the services of animators. Excursions to the sights of the Black Sea coast are organized for vacationers.

Distance to the center of Sochi 30 km, to Sochi-Adler airport 50 km, to the sea 1 km. The popular Aqualoo Water Park is a 15-minute drive away.

Beach: municipal (general village), medium pebble, wide beach strip, 3 km long, gently descent into the water, changing cabins. Rental services: sun loungers, swings, umbrellas, shady areas, bungalows. Entertainment: riding scooters, “banana”, “bun”, parachuting, fishing, pigtails, tattoos, souvenirs, etc.

In each room – TV (digital public broadcasting), refrigerator, individual air conditioning, bathroom with shower / bath. The floor covering is carpet. Total number of rooms: 54. Rooms are cleaned daily, bed linen is changed every 6 days, towels are changed every 3 days.

Meals: 3 meals a day according to the “complex” system – maximally adapted for meals with children.

The price includes: accommodation in a room of the chosen category; use of the boarding house infrastructure: swimming pools, playground, sports grounds, children’s playroom, recreation areas, table tennis, billiard table, gym, ironing rooms

; Wi-Fi, hair dryer, animation for children and teenagers, karaoke, car parking, provision of beach towels, mats and umbrellas; safe at the reception, delivery to the beach by boarding house transport.
