Hodge Patterson, CEO

Our History

The Santa Monica Family YMCA was first incorporated on April 19, 1901. The Santa Monica Family YMCA had its second start at a meeting held June 13, 1927 in the cafeteria of Santa Monica High School. Under the leadership of Dr. C. H. Lewis, our first president, the Y embarked upon a mission to establish a place where local residents could share “friendship and faith.”

Through the Great Depression and other financially troubled times, the Y offered many youth and adult activities including high school clubs, basketball leagues, and Indian Guide programs. Our first “real” home was at Third and California. In 1946, the Sixth Street property was purchased for our expanding needs. Thanks to a successful capital campaign, the YMCA in partnership with the YWCA opened the doors to its new facility on January 15, 1950.

The Y continued to grow with additional purchases and the development of Camp Big Bear. Other notable events were the founding of the Y”s Men”s Breakfast and Evening Clubs, our separation from the YWCA, and the official incorporation of the word “Family” into our name.

In 1983, the Y opened the Ralph W. Kiewit Fitness Center, the first part of a three-phase plan to enlarge existing facilities. Included in the Kiewit Center were a new fitness area with Nautilus equipment, a multi-purpose room for fitness and aerobic classes, and more space for our growing childcare programs.

1989 saw the grand opening of Phase II, which added the lap and teaching pools, two multi-purpose rooms, fitness center, and outdoor walking track.

In 2002, the Phase III Expansion project was completed to include a new gymnasium, racquetball courts, child watch center, computer lab, Teen and Senior Centers, weight room, and new Child Development Center.

10 Classic hand-clapping games to teach your kid

Photo: iStockPhoto

In a culture where it’s normal to pack your kid’s backpack with earphones and an iPad, it may seem like forever ago that hand-clapping games ruled the schoolyard.

But if you’re an old-fashioned soul wanting to pass down the skill of hand-eye coordination to your kid, look no further! Here are some classic hand-clapping games that will surely get them hooked.

1. Patty Cake

“Patty cake, patty cake, baker’s man. Bake me a cake as fast as you can.” Patty Cake is the most classic and simple clapping game out there. Played with two people, hands are clapped in the standard criss-cross motion. Then you roll your dough, pat it and mark it with a B (for baby). It’s a game that can be played with the youngest of tots.

2. Miss Mary Mack

Learn how to play:

4.

Sevens

Much like the cup game, Sevens puts your rhythmic skills to the test. There are a few rhythm patterns within this game. Once you’ve started, the following player must match your rhythm as you move onto the next one. The tricky part is keeping in sync with the others in the game.

5. Rockin’ Robin

An ode to Bobby Day’s 1958 hit song by the same name, Rockin’ Robin can be played with two to four people. The rules of the game vary in accordance with the number of people that join in. However, it’s best played with four people so you can clap over and under (as demonstrated in the video).

6. Tick-Tack-Toe

There are no real rules to this game; it’s simply a bunch of hand movements done for fun! (This one totally reminds us of that scene in The Parent Trap when Annie (Lindsay Lohan) is saying goodbye to her butler, Martin. )

7. Concentration 64

Without repeating or hesitating, players must think of a name or word that relates to a chosen category. There’s no real meaning to the number 64 within the game, but it might be a good challenge to see if you can list off 64 words without breaking concentration.

8. Slide

This game is all about keeping count while keeping your cool. Slide can get pretty intense as your claps increase in number. Try this game with your kid and see how far you get!

9. Say, Say Oh Playmate

Let this song take you back to those sunny days with sidewalk chalk, ice cream and your schoolyard bff. Its innocent lyrics encompass the essence of childhood friendship and it’s an easy clapping rhythm to learn, too. (Note: This one is also known as “Cee Cee My Playmate,” and there are versions where the lyrics aren’t quite so innocent.)

10. Stella Ella Ola

The precise lyrics to Stella Ella Ola are hotly debated (“clap clap clap” or “quack quack quack,” for example). What we do know for sure is that it’s a fun and easy game that can be played in a large group.

Here are some suggested lyrics (that will almost certainly conflict at least slightly with your memory), courtesy of the YouTube video above:

Stella Ella Ola clap clap clap
singing es Tiga Tiga, Tiga Tiga Shack Shack
Es Tiga Tiga, Baloa Baloa, Baloa Lo-a-Lo

29 Classic Hand Clapping Games for Kids (+Videos and Printable Lyrics)

Looking for those hand clapping games you used to play as a child? This list has them all! These hand-clapping rhymes and songs are fun for kids of all ages, from simple rhymes like Pat-A-Cake to more advanced rhymes and clapping techniques.

These hand clap games are perfect to teach your children, students, or camp attendees. And the best part is, once you teach them, they can entertain themselves for hours – and teach their friends too!

I included videos to make learning quick and easy…and you can grab the free printable with the lyrics to all the hand-clapping songs too!

The act of singing a song and clapping your hands may not seem like it would do much, but there is actually quite of bit of evidence that hand clapping, singing and following a particular rhythm or beat actually has tremendous benefits.

And these benefits are not just for children. In the same study that showed the cognitive advantages that hand clap rhymes gave to children they saw similar results in adults.

I have experienced them as a child, a mother and a school teacher and there is just something about clapping games that transcend time, age, gender (I promise you…boys like them too) and cultures.

-Standing in line
-Riding in the backseat of the car
-Waiting for a performance or movie to start in a theater

These simple songs and rhymes also help to teach rhythm, counting, rhyming and hand-eye coordination.

They are also great ice breakers for events with kids because they get people working together right away.

I don’t think any parent, teacher or camp counselor can ever have too many hand clapping games in their repertoire – so if you want a simple, free and fun game to play keep reading!

Pat-A-Cake

Sweet, sweet baby, I’ll never let you go,

Shimmy, shimmy cocoa pops, Shimmy shimmy pow!

Grandma  grandma, sick in bed, Called the doctor and the doctor said;

Let’s get the rhythm of the head – ding dong!

Let’s get the rhythm of the head – ding dong!

Let’s get the rhythm of the hands – clap, clap!

Let’s get the rhythm of the hands – clap, clap!

Let’s get the rhythm of the feet – stomp, stomp!

Let’s get the rhythm of the feet – stomp, stomp!

Let’s get the rhythm of the – hot dog

Put it all together and what do you get?

Ding dong, clap clap, stomp stomp, hot dog! Put it all backward and what do you get? Hot dog, stomp stomp, clap clap, ding dong!

Creating this list was so much fun! It brought back so many memories from childhood.

It also reminded me how important the “simple things” are to our kids. You don’t need over the top events and activities to have fun with your children.

If you are looking for more ways to connect and have fun as a family be sure to check out these posts too:

Most hand clapping games are played with a partner. You either sit or stand facing each other. You then clap a particular rhythm or pattern with your partner as you sing a song. Many hand clap games end when the song ends, but there are others that keep going until one of the players makes a mistake. Each clapping game has different rules and directions, but those are the basic steps for most of them.

While there are records of particular hand clap games including Pat-A-Cake being played in Europe as early as the 1600’s my guess is that hand clapping games have been around a lot longer than that. You can also be sure that other cultures and tribes around the world who are known for their rhythmic clapping and dancing also participated in hand clapping games for thousands of years.

Sometimes the two are used interchangeably and sometimes they’re the same – but not always. Clapping games focus on fine motor skills like hand-eye coordination and bilateral coordination. While there is often a rhyme that accompanies the movements and sometimes even a song, the focus is on the clapping. With singing games, while there may be hand movements to accompany it, the focus is on the song.

Yes, clapping is a skill, not something we are naturally born knowing how to do. Clapping requires fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. That’s why playing these hand clapping games can be so great for kids and why we often teach babies and toddlers Pat-A-Cake. Though it’s fun, it’s actually a way to improve their fine motor skills!

There you have it! The best list of hand clap games from the 80’s, 90’s and even earlier.

So when is handplay a violation and when is it not?

Stories

Everyone will understand.

Until August 2019, the criterion for punishing handball was very simple and at the same time vague: the referees assessed whether the player deliberately touched the ball with his hand or not. The new version from IFAB (the organization that formulates the rules of the game of football) was supposed to simplify everything, but in the end it made it a little more complicated.

A few weeks after the introduction of the new rules, a big question arose about them. The Premier League referees did not count the goal of City striker Gabriel Jesus against Tottenham Hotspur due to the ball hit him from the hand of Aymeric Laporte.

It looked like this.

“I don’t understand how it was possible to remove the hand in that situation,” complained Laporte’s teammate Kevin de Bruyne. – After the game, I was told that if the ball hit the defender’s hand in the same way, then this would not be considered a violation. And in the case of an attacking player, it counts. I don’t understand it, I don’t understand it at all. This issue still needs to be discussed.”

De Bruyne is right – now the rules are interpreted differently for attacking players and defenders.

How is it?

Here are three points where handball is considered a foul:

  1. If a player scores or makes an assist. There are no exceptions here. The referee must always blow his whistle – even if the attacking player unintentionally played a handball, even if he had no chance to dodge. For example, after a ricochet. This is just the case of Laporte. Once again: this point does not work if we are talking about defending players (the next two points apply to everyone).

  2. The ball hits an arm that is above the shoulder.

  3. The football player increases the area of the body with his hand, making it unnaturally large.

The third point is incomprehensible, but Da Vinci’s drawing will explain everything.

Here’s how IFAB CTO David Elliray explains it.

“The body has a certain silhouette. If the arms are extended outside of this silhouette, then it makes the body unnaturally large to block the path of the ball.

Sounds abstract again. So far, the best way to explain this nuance is with the boss of the Italian judges, Nicola Rizzoli. He took Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man and explained everything in it. Here is a short guide.

As a result, the rules really became more complicated, but the criteria became clearer. So that you do not forget the nuances, here is a reminder that you can return to at controversial moments. Even Kevin De Bruyne will understand.

When handball is foul and when it is not.

We dismantled the controversial interpretations and the new rule, and also made a memo for you (+ video moments)

Artem Terentyev studied the most difficult rule in football.

The hand game rules have been changed: accidental contact in attack is not a reason to immediately whistle a foul. But subjectivity remains

On March 5, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) announced a rule adjustment: from July 1, accidentally touching the ball with your hand, which immediately leads to the fact that your teammate either scores a goal or gets an opportunity to score, is not considered a violation .

It is curious that the day before in the Fulham-Tottenham Premier League match, in a similar episode, the referee canceled a goal: the Spurs player carried the ball out of his penalty area, hit Lemina from Fulham in the hand (and she was pressed to the body), Maggie picked up the ball and scored. After reviewing the VAR, the referee did not count the goal. According to the current rules, any handball at the end of the attacking phase (random or not) is a violation.

It got to the point of absurdity: when, for example, a football player who fell in a duel accidentally touched the ball minimally with his hand, and a teammate scored a goal a second later, the referee had to whistle a foul. So it was, say, in the game between Tottenham and Sheffield.

Pierluigi Collina / Photo: © Neal Simpson — EMPICS / Contributor / PA Images / Gettyimages.ru

The IFAB explained that the change in interpretation had nothing to do with Fulham’s last match — the discussion on finalizing the rules went on for several months. At the same time, Collina, head of the referees in Europe, explained: the concept of “unnatural position of the hand” still remains partly subjective and the responsibility rests with the chief referee.

The word “immediately” must also be taken into account in this rule. If the touch with the hand was accidental, it was in a natural position and then the ball went some distance (or several passes were made), then such a moment was not considered a violation before. A vivid example is from the game CSKA – Spartak.

Oblyakov touched the ball after throwing out, then there were several passes, and only then Ejuke scored a goal. After VAR, the referee logically confirmed the goal.

Watch on YouTube

Of course, if the attacking player’s hand is in an unnatural position (more on this term below), then even an accidental touch under the new rules will be a foul.

Officially, the amendments will come into force on July 1, but leagues are allowed to implement them now. But it is unlikely that anyone will change the rules during the season, this is a big risk of running into a scandal, confusing judges and fans. As it became known to Match TV, the RFU also does not plan to make changes until the end of the championship.

A complete set of hand rules. Below there will be an analysis of controversial issues

An important clarification: further in the text, the concept of “hands” will mean, among other things, that part of the shoulder, which, according to the rules, is forbidden to play. More about this already in the analysis of the moments.

To begin with, a squeeze from the IFAB rules for the 2020/21 season. The item that will be canceled from July 1 is indicated in the addenda.

As mentioned above, the concept of “a hand that unnaturally increases the area of the body” is largely subjective and is determined by the judge. Depending on what the player is currently doing in space, the interpretation may change somewhat. There are, of course, general recommendations, but the dynamics of the episode play an important role.

It’s safe to say that raising arms above or at shoulder level is a big risk that often leads to the interpretation of the episode as a violation of the rules. And a relatively safe position of the hands is the deviation of the hands from the body by no more than 15 degrees (20-30 cm). Between these two situations (at the level / above the shoulders and pressed to the body), a lot is determined by the interpretation of the arbiter – the episode and the player’s actions.

Further analysis of controversial issues and clarification of interpretations. Let’s take a closer look at similar episodes with Moses and Rybchinsky.

First, with simpler examples: Lutsenko, jumping under the ball, hits it with his hand (elbow, to be more precise). The hand is seriously set aside, the body area is unnaturally increased – everything is obvious, this is a foul.

Open video

The ball after Fernandez’s shot hits the Akhmat defender. Again: the arm is straightened, located horizontally, the body area is unnaturally increased – foul.

Open video

Cayo raises his arms high in the game against Zenit and touches the ball in the penalty area after a cross from the flank – this is a penalty for the same reasons as in the previous example.

Open video

An insulting moment for Kverkvelia: Rotor’s defender, not seeing the ball, hits it with his elbow – also in the fight against an opponent. But the referee considered that the hand still unnaturally increased the area of the body, this is the key here.

Open video

Kazartsev’s blunder (this was later admitted by the head of the refereeing corps Ashot Khachaturyants): the referee did not assign a penalty after a hand in Rotor’s penalty area. The defender apparently unnaturally increased the area of the body (like a hockey goalkeeper).

Open video

Touching the ball with the hand after hitting both from the opponent and from your own player. Plus moments when a footballer hits himself in the hand (not a rebound)

A more difficult moment: Vlašić in a recent match hit Semenov in the hand from a very close distance, the Akhmat defender did not have the opportunity to remove his hand. It would seem that someone could apply the following rule from the above here:

– No offense if the ball touches the hand (which does not make the body unnaturally larger) directly from the head or body (including the foot) of an opposing player who is close.

No. Semyonov’s hand was clearly set aside, as if it increased the area of the body, and there are reasons to say that it increased unnaturally. And in this situation (when players from different teams participate in the episode), the proximity of the opponent and the inability to avoid contact with the ball no longer matter.

Open video

If players of the same team participate in the episode (for example, a defender gets into the hand of another defender after a clearance), or even one player (touches the ball with his hand due to a technical defect), then the interpretation becomes more complicated. Let’s study the second case first:

a) If a player takes out / just handles the ball and hits his own hand – this is not a penalty, but a technical defect. Even if the hand is in an unnatural position.

Here are examples from recent matches: a Rotor player plays with his hand after handling the ball in his penalty area. But according to the current rules, this is not a penalty.

Open video

Here, Umyarov, in the game with Krasnodar, plays with his hand in the penalty area before an assist. But, firstly, the hand practically does not increase the area of the body, and secondly, such episodes are considered a technical defect, and not a violation. When the ball enters the hand from one’s body while trying, what is important, to play the ball – to receive, hit, process.

Open video

b) If the player hits the ball in the hand of his teammate, there are two options: if, in the opinion of the referee, it was time to remove his hand and avoid contact, then this is a penalty; if the arbiter thinks otherwise, then the game continues, there is no violation.

For example, a Khimki player in his penalty area, kicking the ball, hit a teammate in the hand. The referee rightly considered that the football player did not have time to remove his hand, although it increased the area of the body. Another clarification: the phrase in the rules “a player who is close” is not about the distance, but about the ability to avoid contact of the ball with the hand.

Open video

And a very interesting moment from the Zenit-Krasnodar game: Wendel, trying to take a pass from the flank in his penalty area with his chest, touches the ball with the first touch of his hand.

This is handball and penalties. But if the ball first hit the chest, as the Zenit player planned, and then bounced into the hand, then this would already be a technical defect. There would be no penalty.

Open video

When the ball bounces off a football player into his hand. This is no longer a technical marriage, but a violation

A vivid example is the match of the 21st round “Rubin” – “Zenith”. After serving from the flank, the ball hits Kuzyaev’s body, and then bounces into his hand. This is a penalty because there was a rebound (Kuzyaev did not try to handle the ball or make a game action with it).

Open video

Exactly the same moment in the game “Dynamo” – “Spartak” (ricochet and then hand). Skopintsev reflexively tried to stop the cross, and did not play the ball as planned and prepared. That’s why it’s a penalty.

Open video

It makes no sense to be surprised at the rule, you just have to accept this difference: 1) a rebound (an accidental rebound from the body, leg, head, etc. – after a pass / cross / hit by an opponent) and a subsequent hand that unnaturally increases the area of \u200b\u200bthe body is penalty; 2) an attempt to play the ball (not just rush under a canopy/lumbago/hit, but intentionally, planned to handle the ball, hit the ball, etc.) and the subsequent hand, which unnaturally increases the body area, is a technical defect and not a violation.

A similar moment in interpretation (to the episodes with Kuzyaev and Skopintsev) was in the Tambov-Dynamo game in the 13th round: after a Dynamo strike, the ball hits the body of the opponent’s defender, and then into the hand. The movement was reflexive, the hand was slightly removed from the body, increasing the area. The defender of “Tambov” was simply trying to interrupt the flight of the ball, there was no intentional and prepared game with a permitted part of the body.

Open video

And a much more controversial moment in the game between Krasnodar and Chelsea. Also a blow (but from a closer distance), a rebound and a hand. The judge considered that she unnaturally increased the area of the body, although the location was close to the body. Apparently not close enough.

Open video

Well, a wildly difficult case in the Sochi-Spartak match: Larsson hits Tsallagov in the hosts’ penalty box with the ball. In dynamics, it seemed that this was an obvious game with a set-back hand (again, the body area was unnaturally increased) and a penalty.

But there are already doubts on VAR and from the replay from behind the gate. It can be seen that at first the ball hits the defender’s ribs, but what happened next is not so clear. In any case: if the ball hits the outstretched hand from the ribs, it’s a penalty (because it’s a ricochet, and not an attempt to deliberately play the ball), if it goes beyond the front from the ribs, then it’s logical that there is no penalty. That’s what the referee thought.

Open video

Touching the ball on the shoulder – moments of Moses and Rybchinsky.

We explain in detail

In the rules for the 20/21 season, IFAB showed in the picture what is considered a hand when playing football. But it turned out to be too schematic and a little misleading.

Photo: © IFAB

Visually, it seems that the allowed part of the shoulder (the underarm zone, as it is also called) extends approximately to the end of the T-shirt sleeve. But this is different from what instructions are given to the arbitrators.

Here is a simplified example of how to determine this allowed zone: imagine that you have a thermometer under your arm, draw a horizontal line from it to your arm – you will get a part of the shoulder, the border of which will be located 5 centimeters higher than the sleeve of a standard T-shirt.

Next. Even if the ball touches the forbidden zone by a centimeter (in the opinion of the arbitrator; it is, of course, impossible to calculate this mathematically exactly), then this is a handball. Especially if the player makes an oncoming movement towards the ball, as was the case with Moses, where the Spartak player directed his hand under the serve. Plus, according to the repetition that is available, it seems that the ball was below the axillary zone (that straight line from the conditional thermometer).

Once again: not below the sleeve area of a standard T-shirt, but below the underarm area. In this case, this is a violation. Naturally, this rule was introduced for VAR, in dynamics it is impossible for a person to determine this. The calculation is that the judges at the video screen will promptly correct the chief if he overlooks such a moment.

The game was not shown on Match TV, but on the RFU YouTube channel there is this fragment (dated March 4) in slow motion.

There was a very similar moment in the meeting between CSKA and Ural in the 18th round. Also a serve from a corner, however, the touch of the ball was a little lower on the arm – so it’s easier to make a decision. It is clear that without VAR, such a moment would hardly have been noticed – such episodes are now called “television penalties”.

Top 10 most unusual and mysterious places and phenomena on earth

Even scientists still cannot explain their existence.

Great Sphinx

The relatively small size of the head prompted Boston geologist Robert Schoch to suggest that the statue originally had the face of a lion, from which one of the pharaohs ordered a mysteriously smiling human face to be carved in his own image and likeness. But this hypothesis did not find recognition in the scientific community, as well as G. Hancock’s assumption about the correlation of the three pyramids with the stars in the constellation of Orion, which was allegedly observed in the 11th millennium BC. e.

Moeraki stone balls

The most striking qualities of boulders are their unusually large size and spherical shape. But how could such unusual boulders form? There is still no clear answer.

Animal migration

Animal migration is a natural phenomenon: animals travel from one place to another, usually at certain times of the year. However, scientists still do not understand how such complex movements can be embedded in the genes of different species of birds, fish, insects and mammals.

Synchronous fireflies

Instead of each of these fireflies glowing whenever it wishes, they all light up at the same time, every second or two: they are in sync. Jonathan Copeland, a firefly specialist at the University of South Georgia in Statesboro, thinks it could be a mating ritual. However, no one knows for sure.

Meredith Stone

This stone was found in 1872 during earthworks in the town of Meredith, on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee (New Hampshire, USA). The Meredith Stone is a worked piece of quartzite that is not found in New Hampshire, so it was made elsewhere. The time of creation of this stone and its purpose are still unknown.

Taos hum

For many years, residents of the city of Taos (New Mexico, southwestern United States) have been hearing low-frequency noise of unknown origin coming from the desert. The rumble is similar to the movement of heavy equipment along the highway, although there are no major roads in the area of the town.

Stone labyrinths on Bolshoi Zayatsky Island

On the territory of the Big Zayatsky Island there are many stone excavations in the form of spirals. The exact purpose of these mysterious stone structures is unknown. Many theories have been put forward: the labyrinths could have been used for rituals, and possibly served as models of fishing traps.

Ryukyu terraced formations

In 1986, a group of divers discovered a number of unusual formations in the sea off the island of Yonaguni, resembling architectural structures. Artifacts found such as drilled stones with symbols, scrapers and a bas-relief of an animal have led many to believe that the structures are man-made. Researchers are still arguing on this topic.

Red glow over the Pacific Ocean

This strange red light was spotted over the Russian Kamchatka peninsula by J. van Heist. He was flying a Boeing 747-8 from Hong Kong to Alaska when he noticed a red glow below. The glow appeared after lightning seen in the distance. This phenomenon remains unexplained. Scientists believe that the red glow may be a reflection of a volcanic eruption at the bottom of the ocean.

Stone ball in Bosnia

Some suggest that representatives of ancient civilizations made them as symbols of celestial bodies or demarcations between land holdings. But where did such balls eventually come from in different parts of the planet is still not known.

Georgiacetus / Extinct Animals / Your Blog

Georgiacetus (lat. Georgiacetus) is an ancient extinct ancestor of cetaceans, known from finds in the United States of remains from the Eocene era.

Georgiacetus is an extinct protocetid (early whale) that lived in the Eocene (Early Barton Age, 40.5 – 37.2 million years ago) and hunted in the rich coastal sea with a powerful current that once covered the southeastern part of the United States. Current research considers Georgiacetus as a link between protocetids and modern whales, making it an important scientific ancestor of all modern whales. A cast of the find is currently on display at the Georgia Southern University Museum in Statesboro, Georgia. Georgia Southern University also holds true georgiacet fossils found in 1983, and the fossilized bones of the thigh of the animal are exhibited there.

Georgiacetus was discovered in 1983 during the construction of the Vogtle nuclear power plant in Berk County, Georgia (Lutetian Blue Bluff Formation, 33.1°N 81.8°W). The find consisted of three individuals identified as belonging to the same species. Two individuals were isolated bones that were recovered separately, including several vertebrae, ribs, and dental crowns.

The main find was discovered when cutting a drainage channel at a depth of about 9.1 m below the surface. It was a 75%-80% complete skeleton, consisting of over 60 bones and teeth, including a well-preserved skull and lower jaw. Luckily, Georgia Power stopped construction work in the area and helped with the restoration. The bulk of the bones were collected from an area of about 3.3 m 2 , they were not articulated. There was evidence that one rib had a scratch from scavengers, but only ten shark teeth were found near the skeleton. There was no duplication of fossilized bones in the bulk, hence it was one individual. It was an adult animal with fully erupted and worn molars. No apparent cause of death was found.

Georgiacet had no caudal fin and swam using undulating movements of the body and hind legs in a vertical plane, similar to seals. Georgiaceta’s pelvis was not attached to the spine, so it could not use its hind limbs to move on land. Armed with jaws with sharp teeth, he most likely hunted fish and cephalopods. The georgiacete was about 3.5-4 meters long.

Georgiacetus was thought to be the earliest North American right whale until a paper was published in 2005 on Carolinacetus, a slightly older, more primitive whale than Georgiacetus. The description of Carolinacetus was based on a partial skull, lower jaw, several teeth, ribs, and a vertebra. This was an important find in itself, but the authors of the description raised another interesting question: how did the whales get to North America?

Whales appeared about 52 million years ago in the Tethys Ocean (between modern India and Asia). It was a warm, bountiful shallow sea much like the one that covered the southeastern United States 40 million years ago, when whales (Georgiacetus & Carolinacetus) were already present in America. There are two main assumptions about how the whales got to America: one involves a direct crossing of the Atlantic, the other is a polar route north up the European coastline, through Greenland, and south along the North American coastline. At that time the climate was much warmer, and Greenland was most likely green, so such a swim was possible. Both routes would require long deep sea crossings. Also, since sea levels were much higher at that time, the journey would have been longer than it is today.

Whichever route was used, the fact that the voyage occurred shows that by the time of Carolinacetus and Georgiacetus, whales (which did not yet possess a caudal fin) were already capable of extended deep-sea swimming.

The figure below shows a reconstruction of whale swimming: Powerful tail-flicking in modern baleen (Mysticeti) and toothed (Odontoceti) whales (above) evolved from the hip up-and-down undulating style of the ancient whale Georgiacetus (below). An intermediate view is shown between them (illustration by Mary Parrish, Smithsonian Institution).

Shout out to room 350, Ms Deanna does very well with the kids in a room full of boys she manages to teach as best as she can with what she has. She is always a friendly face in the morning and encouraging to all the little ones. She picks up on each one of the kids personality and fosters a “you can do it” attitude. Her attention to the kids is impressive, and this was present in her review of our child, she is excellent, a 5 start teacher.
Ms Betty seems to be a jack of all trades, I have seen her in various rooms to provide assistance as needed. She seems to do well enough with where ever I have seen her work.
My kid has been attending this location of Kids R Kids since about 9 months, and up till this room we have felt the teachers have gotten the support they needed. This would be a for sure 5 star if I felt she was supported. I understand keeping people lately for them has been hard, which I understand (This delay/retention is why I have marked it as 4 star). Ultimately if you are looking for a solid day care, look no further, this place is great!
The staff are very helpful and understand the struggles of new parents. The programs and education offered here are great as well. My child progress considering everything is well and our next little one will be coming here as well (This speaks to the overall value of the school brings to families ). I really want to give them a 5 star, and will once I see the support issue is address with Ms. Deanna 🙂

My daughter started attending when she was 2 years old, and their potty training routine helped her get potty trained in about a month of when she began training! The staff there is funny and down to earth. The kids are always playing and doing something fun or academic. I believe my daughter is learning helpful social and developmental skills while in their prek3 program.

My son has been attending Kids R Kids for close to a year now and all of his teachers have been absolutely wonderful. Ms. Charlotte, Ms. Jasmine and Ms. Suzanne in room 200 are amazing! My son adores them and always has a smile when dropping him off and picking him up. I appreciate all of their hard work, time and attention they give my son and all of their students.

Leaving the care of your baby to someone is scary. But I know when I drop Scarlett off everyday with Ms. Marisol, Ms. Aurora, and Ms. Elizabeth that she’s in the best care she can be when she’s not with me. She is happy and smiling when she goes and is just as happy when she’s picked up at the end of the day. We love Kids R Kids!

My little guy has been attending Kids R Kids since he was 3 months old in Suite 100. This place is great and I have been impressed by their curriculum, even with the infants. They provide sensory teaching and use infant sign language which is great for young, developing minds. All of the teachers have been great (Ms Marisol, Ms Aurora, & Ms Elizabeth) and he seems to truly enjoy himself when he is there! It keeps this first time mom’s mind at ease knowing he is in good hands and learning so much.

Fathers and sons – Bank shot – Blogs

Basketball fever is often inherited. From father to son. Steel character and professionalism are already in the genes. It remains only to continue the family tradition. The Bank Shot blog on Sports.ru remembers the most famous fathers and children who played in the NBA.

You can’t teach to be tall, but if your father played in the NBA, then with a high degree of probability you will get excellent physical data and a first-class protégé who will help you make the first (and often second and third) step in professional basketball.

It’s always interesting to watch the heir to a great player try his hand at the best league in the world. Often, from the genius of the father, the son gets only a surname, a long first step and a couple of tricks learned in the backyard. But there are also reverse examples, when the father’s sporting achievements became a springboard for the offspring’s victorious career.

It won’t be easy to remember everyone, but it’s worth trying.

Rick Barry and Brent, Drew and John Barry

The most famous dynasty in the NBA. Most often they talk about Rick and Brent – two great snipers from different eras. The first is a real legend from the 60s. Eight All-Star Games, Rookie of the Year title, then a dashing 70s, NBA title with Golden State and Finals MVP award. Barry constantly changed his game, improved. He came to the league as a great rebounder and scorer and only then became a phenomenal sniper and assistant. His free throw is just a song. And despite the fact that Rick, with his “grandmother’s” technique, practically did not miss from the line.

His middle son Brent – contrary to fairy tales – was most like his father. The same big-headed, deadly from a three-point distance. He was always one of those guys who was trusted to take the decisive shot. And not anyone trusted him, but Gregg Popovich himself: as part of San Antonio, Brent twice won the champion title, outdoing his father in this. Winning the slam dunk contest in 1996 is a bonus to a great career.

John and Drew are most often said to be the two sons of the famous Hall of Famer Rick Barry and one of the top 50 players in NBA history. Agree, not the worst feature. The youngest of the family (Drew) was dusting in the league at the turn of the 2000s, lit up with Atlanta, Seattle and Golden State. Senior (John) is a narrow special, a role player who could score 12 points in 3 minutes, finish the match twice in a row with statistics of 5 three-pointers and 5 interceptions, and then fall out of the main clip. Over the 12 years of his career, John changed 8 teams, but one thing was never in doubt – his throw. It’s in the Barry family’s blood.

Brent and John now work as commentators and TV pundits and, together with other former players, make the NBA better and more understandable for mere mortals.

Bill Walton and Luke Walton

William Theodore Walton 3rd, Big Red Head, Big Bill, Man-Mountain – as soon as the legendary Portland center was not called. He is considered a home in San Diego and Boston, despite the fact that, for example, in the Celtics, he spent only two seasons at the end of his career and most often came off the bench. Unlike his son, Bill could choose his favorite color. Rumor has it that the question “yellow or green?” he was helped to answer by Larry Bird. The Celtic legend hinted to Walton on the phone that Lakers general manager Jerry West was hesitant and waiting for a report from the doctors, while the Celtics were ready to accept a center in any condition into their ranks. As a result, Bill added another title and the title of the best sixth player to the title of NBA champion and MVP of the regular season.

At home, instead of tiles, Walt Sr. has a picture of the old Boston Garden arena in his kitchen, while his son sits on the bench of his worst enemy and waves a (often yellow) towel. A crooked grin of fate?

Luke’s career – successful in college – stalled in the NBA at the stage of “role player who did not live up to expectations. ” All the Lakers fans are trying to trade Walton’s contract in the trade machine, and the player himself has long wanted something more than five trash minutes in the contender.

Joe Bryant and Kobe Bryant

In contrast, the Bryant family. The father is an ordinary forward who missed the league for eight seasons, and then left for Italy in search of a better life. The son is the best player of our time, who inherited only cat plasticity, stylish turns and natural charm.

Joe was called “Marmalade”, he scored through Karim, averaged at least 11 points per season (with the Philadelphia, Clippers and Houston), in Italy he gave scoring performances twice (53 points per game in part of the Pistoia), but he is doomed to remain in history as “the father of Kobe Bryant, five-time NBA champion.”

Henry Bibby and Mike Bibby

The Bibby family is a great example of more than just being tall. Father – 185 cm, son – 188 cm, but at the same time both made excellent careers at the university level, played in the NBA ((Henry even became a champion in the Knicks). No. 2 in the 1998 Draft, and almost his entire career, he was a starter, scoring decisive shots, breaking fast breaks and fighting for the highest places. In the company of Divac, Webber and Stojakovic, it could not be otherwise.0005

It was more difficult for my father. Despite being part of John Wooden’s legendary Bruins (88 straight wins), Henry had to climb to the stars from the 4th round (58 picks). But he was also lucky with partners – Willis Reel, Walt Frazier, Dave DeBusher, Bill Bradley, Earl Monroe and Jerry Lucas got together in 1973 in order to win the first championship for New York. Later, in Philadelphia, Henry Bibby will have a chance to win the title almost alone, but both times (in 1977 and 1980) his team was inferior in the final.

Jimmy Walker and Jalen Rose

On the streets of Boston in the early 60s, you could learn more than basic hand-to-hand combat. Jimmy Walker was the most famous streetball player in the city (although they were probably called differently back then). The guy spent days on the set, missing such important moments in his life as schooling, first love, drugs on the street and unwanted companies. The only memory I have of Boston Trade High School is meeting Sam Jones, a future Celtics player. Walker was placed at Providence University by his uncle, who knew the team’s coach, Joe Mullany. From that moment on, Jimmy’s life changed – he was noticed. 50 points against Bob Cosey’s team, the MVP at Madison Square Garden – and now the guy from the street becomes the main character of college basketball. Draft 19’67 is the first time that territorial picks have ceased to operate (under the old rules, Walker would have ended up in Boston with his old friend with Sam Jones). And so, under the first number, he was chosen by Detroit, and all that Walker could achieve was two All-Star Games, and 17 points on average per season. As the player himself later admitted, he often lacked motivation, and sometimes even desire.

His son Jalen became famous long before he played his first game in the NBA. The legendary “Fab Five” from Michigan (Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Juven Howard, Jimmy King, Ray Jackson) are the very bad guys who left no one indifferent.

The NBA also remembered Rose. Basically, of course, according to scandalous statements in the press and a conflict with Larry Brown (the player was even called “Mr. DNPСD” – Did Not Play – Coach’s Decision), but when everyone finally decided that Rose would bring the most benefit to the light forward position , he shone in Indiana. The 1996-2000 seasons were the best in the striker’s career.

Gerald Wilkins and Damien Wilkins

The former can’t be seen behind Patrick Ewing’s broad back. But it was Gerald Wilkins who was the second highest scoring “knickerbocker” in the late 80s.

No coincidence, Hawks legend Dominic Wilkens is Gerald’s brother. The family has a high jump by default. And the Knicks guard also had an excellent shot – Gerald Wilkins became famous as one of the most ruthless clutch shooters of his time. But, of course, he was far from his brother.

Son Damien is a pale shadow of his father and uncle. In the draft he was not noticed, despite the pedigree. The Summer League gave the sniper a second chance in the form of a contract with Seattle. After the departure of Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen, he even got a starter spot and broke out in a match that scored 41 points and 9rebounds, but this was not even enough to subsequently become part of the rotation of the NBA club. Now Damien is surviving on 10-day contracts, and was last seen in Atlanta.

Mike Dunleavy Sr. and Mike Dunleavy Jr.

One name for two, one destiny. Both are always missing something. Senior – good luck. The youngest – stability.

Father’s career was short – he can only be remembered in San Antonio (72 games, 7.8 points, 5. 5 assists, 1.7 rebounds). In Milwaukee, Houston, and Philadelphia, the defenseman diligently treated a chronic lower back injury that ultimately ended his career. That didn’t stop Dunleavy from returning to the league as a coach (something many regret) and is still associated with Clippers failures, an unmanageable Zach Randolph and various anti-records.

The son does not yet show interest in coaching, and this helps to evaluate Dunleavy Jr. more objectively. The versatile Duke soldier who won the NCAA title in 2000 received too many compliments and still can’t justify himself. Dunleavy is an excellent sniper, with a golden hand and a cold heart if he catches a shot. Otherwise, he is one of the main reasons for the defeat of his team.

Ronald Brewer and Ronnie Brewer

Brewer Sr. selected in the 19 draft78 just behind Larry Bird. They believed in him more than, for example, in Reggie Theus and Morris Cheeks. But already in the first season, the defender showed his maximum (13. 3 points and a place in the top five rookies). There was no further progress, and Ronald Brewer chose the unenviable role of a traveler – he changed 6 teams in 8 years. “My son is my pride. He is the only thing I have achieved in my life. I think he will be better than me, ”the father gave the first advances to Brewer Jr.

Ronnie is now cementing the Chicago back court, replacing Keith Boganz, who is only nominally the Bulls’ starting number two. An athletic, bouncy defender is one of those who can defend against any opponent, support a fast break, help on rebounds. Only problems with the shot prevent Brewer from becoming a truly great player for a contender team.

Dolph Shaze and Danny Shaze

This couple is often forgotten, but only because Danny Shaze did not have the zeal, and maybe talent, to even come close to his father’s fame.

Dolph is a Philadelphia legend and, forgive us Allen Iverson and his fans, the most decorated player in history. It was impossible to defend against him – a throw with a rainbow trajectory was deadly accurate and almost inaccessible to defenders. For this, Shaze was nicknamed “Satellite”. At the very beginning of his career, he broke his wrist and was forced to throw with one hand all season. He adapted, brought this element to perfection. As part of the “76s” he won the championship title (1955), led the team in rebounding for several seasons and went to Star Weekend 12 times. A place among the 50 best players in the history of the NBA Dolph Shayz rightfully deserved.

His son Danny’s career is best described by the report of one of the scouts. “This guy looks like Dolph but throws like his mom.” Of course, it wasn’t all that bad. An excellent career in Syracuse, then the 1987/88 season with the Nuggets, during which the forward scored more than 13 points and 8 rebounds per game. He was constantly afraid of making a mistake, threw with a high percentage (64) and could not stand comparisons with his father, because of whose shadow he never saw the sun.

Scott May and Sean May

Scott May is an Indiana University legend. The striker was so indispensable that Bobby Knight in 1975 released him to the match against Kentucky with a broken arm (although Indiana still lost and could not get into the Final Four). Scott May survived the defeat and the next season, having received the title of player of the year, he secured the championship for his university. Then there was the triumphant 1976 Olympics, which traditionally ended for the Americans with a golden shower. In the NBA, May played for the Bulls and spent eight good seasons in the league, averaging 10.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Sean May is like a copy of my father. A prominent role in the North Carolina team, an NCAA championship, a bag of expectations and compliments, a great position in the draft. But this family seems to be made for college basketball. Sean never found himself in the NBA. He wanders around the “benches”, suffers from excess weight, heals sores. After six years of wandering, he tied himself with a contract with the Turkish “Ulker”.

Dell Curry and Stephen Curry

Reminds me of the new Where Amazing Happens commercial.

A father teaches his son how to properly straighten his arm, turn his hand after a throw – these are the basics of basketball and if they are taught at an early age, then the child, with due diligence, will develop first-class technique.

Same as Stephen Curry. Rivals in the NBA have already figured out that leaving this guy unattended is like death. All fears that the point guard would not take root in a league where athletic defenders rule the ball did not materialize. Curry has his own trump cards, and now it’s impossible to say for sure who the Golden State management is afraid of losing more – a talented sophomore or Monta Ellis.

Stephen’s father had a harder time. In the NBA, he raised virgin soil – fate threw the defender into a new team from Charlotte – the Hornets, where Curry left the bench, but at the same time was considered one of the leaders. He wrote a new team history and is still the leader in games played, points scored and three-point shots. As a reward – a prize for the best sixth player of the 1993/1994 season.

Dell Curry now works in television, commentating on Bobcats matches and advertising his son, who really deserves it, at every opportunity.

***

This is where the stories of the rich and famous end, but that doesn’t mean father-son duos didn’t exist in the NBA anymore. The scale of personalities and the level of involvement with the best league in the world are changing, but the fact remains.

Stan Love and Kevin Love . The son was only truly recognized this season, when he set a record for double-doubles and rolled up to the All-Star Game, and his father spent three incomplete seasons in the league, having noted in the application of the Lakers and Baltimore.

Tito Horford and Al Horford . Tito’s father is known as the first player from the Dominican Republic in the NBA. He played really for a short time (only three seasons) and not very successfully, which does not prevent Tito from giving everyone advice and begging the Hawks management to use his son Al as a power forward.

George Karl and Kobi Karl . We know the first one better as a good old-school coach who has never won a championship. The second – as a burden for all clubs in the league.

Carl has only played 33 games in the NBA with San Antonio (before that the team played in the ABA), and his son Kobe is far from Kobe and all he has managed to achieve so far is to be photographed in the Lakers uniform.

Wesley Matthews Sr. and Wesley Matthews Jr. . Utah fans still cannot understand why the management parted ways with Wesley Matthews so easily. The guy came out of nowhere – undrafted, with an excellent ammo load for playing in the NBA. The sophomore is now frolicking at the Rose Garden and helping everyone come to terms with Brandan Roy’s injuries.

Wes’s father won the title twice in nine seasons in the NBA (with the Lakers), changed from half a dozen teams, but never found himself in the league – players with a height of 185 cm were always difficult in the NBA.

LeRon Ellis and LeRoy Ellis . My father’s best years were spent with the Lakers, where he became a champion in 1972 and won a record 33 wins with the team, helping out to the best of his ability on rebounding and defense. Three of Ellis’s four children followed in his footsteps. Daughter Lisa played for California and Kentucky, eldest son LeRoy Junior was marked in the second division of the NCAA, and LeRon Ellis, after two successful seasons in Kentucky and Syracuse, was selected in the draft-1991 at number 22 by the Clippers and spent three incomplete seasons in the NBA.

Bob Ferry and Danny Ferry . His father played ten seasons in the NBA with Atlanta, Detroit, and Baltimore in the 60s, while his son was bald and tall with a desire to shoot 3-pointers with Cleveland and San Antonio.

Walter Jones and Askiya Jones . Jones Sr. managed to put together a good career in the NBA. The diminutive point guard made the All-Rookie Team in his first season as a Bullets player, then played on Wilt Chamberlain’s team, backcourt with Hal Greer. Sixers in season-1966/1967 rolled across all teams (68 wins and 13 losses), flew through three playoff series in the same breath, crushing defending champions from Boston along the way, and won the final against San Francisco. Wally Jones was part of this great team.

Walter’s son wasn’t drafted by any NBA team, but Askiya played 11 games with Minnesota, enough to put the Joneses on our list.

Al McGuire and Ellie McGuire

Al McGuire brazenly shouted from the bench, “I can stop Bob Cosey!” The next six times, when the ball and Kuzi met on the court, McGuire grossly violated the rules, but at the same time he smiled from the top of his head – he was trying to keep his promise.

There are no such stories about McGwire’s son, and in the NBA the defender played only two games, playing a total of only five minutes.

George Mikan and Larry Mikan

About the legendary Mikan, who is called only Mr. Basketball, you can write a separate article. About his son Larry – and a line will be enough. One NBA season with the Cavaliers, 53 games, 3 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

James Paxon and Jim, John Paxons

Father James, drafted by the Lakers in the 1956 draft, was the founder of the family business. The tradition was continued by eldest son Jim, who played for Portland and the Celtics in the mid-80s. Well, the youngest Paxon is the same guy from Chicago that you immediately thought of.

Butch Van Breda Kolf and Jan Van Breda Kolf

Father joined the Knicks immediately after World War II ended. But this did not stop Butch from continuing to fight right on the site. The rough power forward shot a terrible 30 percent and shot a measly 4.7 points in 175 games with New York, but he was a captain and a very respected man. This subsequently helped him become an excellent coach. Butch’s son, Ian, is better known as the son of his father, but no one will delete eight seasons in the NBA from his life.

Ernie Vanderweihe and Kiki Vanderweihe

This difficult surname began to break the tongue in the middle of the last century and has not finished until now. Ernie played for New York in the early 50s, and his son, after a successful NBA career, worked as a coach, and was most recently seen on the sinking Nets ship, which Mikhail Prokhorov patched up in time.

Kiki’s game is still remembered in the league. For seven seasons, the striker scored at least 20 points per game. The best years of the player were spent in Denver and Portland – Kiki participated in the All-Star Game, came up with simple but effective moves that were later included in textbooks, and led his teams to the playoffs 12 out of 13 times. At the same time, Kiki always said that the most important person for him is his father. It was he who instilled in Kiki a love of basketball.

Milton Wagner and DeJuan Wagner

Wagner Sr. showed the world a unique achievement. Despite only playing 53 games in the NBA (with the Lakers and Miami), Milton is one of the few players to win titles at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. He achieved all these victories hand in hand with his friend Billy Thompson (except for the NBA, where Thompson won the championship one year later than Wagner).

Milton’s son had a better streetball lead, averaged around 40 points in high school, was selected in the 2002 draft with a very high sixth pick but failed to live up to expectations. All those who compared DeJuan Wagner with Allen Iverson hurriedly retreated – the defender scored about 13 points in his first season, but his shot selection suffered seriously (only 36 percent of hits). After 11 games in the 2004/2005 season, the player was hospitalized – peptic ulcers were discovered. After recovering, Wagner signed a contract with the Warriors, but two months later, representatives of the Golden State refused the player. Now the defender is living out his short basketball life as part of the Polish Prokom.

Gerald Henederson, Sr. and Gerald Henederson, Jr.

The son is known for his sharpshooting talents and for beating the infamous owner of the Bobcats in H-O-R-S-E. The defender has recently established himself in the basis of Charlotte (immediately after the exchange of Gerald Wallace) and is now fighting fiercely with the team for the eighth line in the East.

His father had thirteen glorious seasons in the NBA and will go down in history as the guy who intercepted James Worthy’s ball and tied the game in Game 2 of the Final 1984 years, where the Celtics and Lakers traditionally met. Thanks to the feat of Gerald Henderson Sr., Boston moved the meeting to overtime, where KC Jones’ team was a little more successful (124:121). In the end, everything stretched to the seventh game (111:102), and the Celtics won, but the importance of that interception cannot be overestimated.

Terry Davis and Ed Davis

Ed was selected thirteenth overall by Toronto in this year’s draft. The North Carolina forward could have gone into the Top 5 last season, agents said, but Davis broke his wrist against the Dukes and was forced to spend another year in college. As part of the Raptors, he really began to play after Reggie Evans was out of action. The guy in every match aspired to a double-double, and many people wanted to see him at the match of Rookies and Sophomores in Los Angeles.

Ed is an exact copy of his father. The same height (6’10), the same wide arm span. That’s just Terry worked in the NBA exclusively as a laborer. Virginia Union University produces players on a single order – tough uncompromising forwards, gravitating towards the center position. Before Terry was Charles Oakley, after him was Ben Wallace. These guys keep the world going. Davis was an undrafted player, but this did not stop him from spending more than ten years in the NBA and subsequently teaching all the tricks to his son, who has much more talent.

***

For those who want to continue – the latest news. After it became known that David West was out before the end of the season, New Orleans announced the signing of a 10-day agreement with forward Patrick Ewing Jr. Everyone is tired of advertising this guy, and most likely it will end in another disappointment. But how do you want to refute the popular opinion that nature rests on the children of geniuses!

Fathers and children of the NBA. Championship legacy or nature’s recreation?

In the vast world of the NBA, Sportbox.ru found famous players whose fathers became champions of the best basketball league in the world.

Michael Thompson and Clay Thompson

Not only did Michael Thompson go No. 1 in the 1978 draft and win two championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, he was, as they say, second only to God. The main replacement for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a role that in some provincial theaters can be considered the main role.

But Clay, as a competent author of remakes, decided to take all the best from the original and bungled his own production. At the end of the debut season, he, like his father, entered the symbolic team of the best beginners, but then his own improvisation is already going on. Clay shone at the Under-19 World Championship, where he won gold with the national team. If such a plot twist seems banal, then here is a curious detail for you. On the same team was Seth Curry, the brother of Steph Curry, with whom Clay is now the deadliest backline in the league at Golden State. Naturally, Clay, like every accommodating son, names his father as the main role model, and he … he advises him to take an example from Kobe Bryant. Dad will not advise bad, and if Clay listens to the instructions of the elder, then it is likely that he will be able to win more than two championship titles.

Wes Matthews and Wesley Matthews

You can scold the Lakers until you turn purple-yellow, but it turned out that this team brought the most joy to the kids (and their dads). In the same draft as Michael Thompson, there was Private Wes Matthews, who, in general, lacked stars from the sky. During his long career, the two-time champion thoroughly traveled around the NBA clubs, a couple of times he was not easily brought to Europe, and he spent the last year of his career in Brazil.

The creative path of his son Wesley also bears little resemblance to the yellow brick road. The defenseman, who ranked fairly high at the university level, took a big hit in the gut when he was undrafted. After such a failure, Matthews spent the entire summer in the Utah and Sacramento labor camps, where he worked on improving equipment and correcting tactical flaws. Then, a stage through Utah, Matthews ended up in Portland, where he almost doubled his performance in a year, and in 2011 went to the All-Star Weekend, where he was awarded the title of rising NBA star. At the moment, Wesley has played four years in the NBA with an average performance of 15 points. His ancestor ran in the best league in the world for 13 years, and his average is 8 points. Study, son – you will become a bachelor! Sorry, you’ve got the wrong audience.

Bill Walton and Luke Walton

We continue the concert at the request of Lakers fans, one of the most regrettable cases of basketball succession is next. In the 70s, the majority did not particularly complain about hippies, and Bill Walton, in turn, did not complain about it. A huge two-meter bearded man with a fiery shock of hair, in a flowery T-shirt with divorces and flared jeans, was one of the few professional athletes who openly expressed sympathy for the community of flower children. At the same time, the best white center in the history of the NBA was hiding behind the outrageousness. He almost single-handedly made Portland the champion, and then repeated the achievement by moving to Boston.

His son won his two titles as part of the worst enemy of the “Celts”. Luke’s path was hard and thorny, because it takes great endurance and willpower to endure endless, and most importantly justified, bullying. For 8 years with the Lakers, Walton Jr. has played for two championship titles and for several dozen of the most ridiculous moments in which he appears not as a relative, but as a brother in spirit to the great and terrible Yevgeny Petrosyan.

Gerald Henderson and Gerald Henderson Jr.

The ability to be in the right place at the right time is one of the rarest talents. It was given to Gerald Henderson from childhood, and nature, apparently, rested on his son. Henderson Sr. is ringed with as many as three championship rings, two of which he won with Boston, and one more with Detroit. The highlight of his career was an interception in Game 2 of the Celtics-Lakers Final Series in 1984 that sent the Celtics into overtime and won to tie the series. This interception was one of the 60 greatest episodes in playoff history.

The younger Henderson was a little less fortunate, it’s not that he was in the wrong place, he just got it when Michael Jordan himself looked at the 2009 draft. Since then, he has been the main barge hauler, pulling behind him an irreparable vessel called the Charlotte Bobcats. And yet, the father and son have something in common – both are much more episodic, only unlike dad, while the most memorable moment in the offspring’s career was 35 points scored against … of course, the Celtics.

Dock Rivers and Austin Rivers

This case differs from the others in that the father became a champion at the end of his playing career. Doc Rivers is the main architect of the Celtics’ recent success, and it was under his leadership that Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen first experienced what it was like to become an NBA champion.

His son Austin is also a designer to some extent.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Northwest Jacksonville school that was described as dilapidated is in the middle of a major renovation.

And it’s not just a face-lift.

Crews completely demolished Rutledge Pearson Elementary and are rebuilding it from the ground up. When it’s done, the district said it will be the most modern school in the county.

Crews on Thursday celebrated that the school in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood has been completely roofed. When it’s all done, it will be unrecognizable from what stood there before.

The $40 million project is quickly moving along and includes things like a new second floor and new play fields.

The school will serve 900 students and combine Henry Kite, Martin Luther King Jr., and Rutledge Pearson elementary schools into one large state-of-the-art campus.

“Not just school infrastructure, the walls, the cafeteria area being especially reinforced as a hurricane shelter which is desperately needed for this part of town and the county. It’s also going to have the most modern teaching technology, learning walls, speaker systems, sound systems, interactive systems, high internet capability, wireless capability. It will be, really, a very modern school facility. Probably the most modern we will have in Duval County,” said Paul Soares, DCPS Assistant Superintendent of Operations.

Rutledge Pearson Elementary is one of 28 transformative replacement or new school projects across the city funded by the half-cent sales tax that was approved by Duval County voters in 2020.

The tax money will go toward more than $1.5 billion worth of outstanding maintenance projects, which the district said were put off due to state funding cuts.

If you want to see how the district is using the sales tax money to revitalize schools, and more details about the projects in your area, click here.

AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

SCHOOL-READY

What Learning Looks Like

Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.

Carmel KinderCare Programs

Infant Programs (6 weeks-1 year)

Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.

Toddler Programs (1-2 Years)

Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2-3 Years)

This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.

Preschool Programs (3-4 Years)

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!

Prekindergarten Programs (4-5 Years)

When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program

Cooking Academy™ (3-12 Years)

In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!

Music Explorers™ (2-4 Years)

KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.

Phonics Adventures® (2-4 Years)

Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)

STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)

You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
amazing things!

Our Teachers

We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.

Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!

A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH

An Artist’s Heart

“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.

We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What accreditations does KinderCare have?

We are your trusted caregiver. Our centers are state-licensed and regularly inspected to make sure everything meets or exceeds standards, including child-to-teacher ratios and safe facilities. Our centers aren’t just licensed—most are accredited, too! Find out more.

Do you offer part-time schedules at Carmel KinderCare?

Everybody’s schedule is different. We’re happy to offer quality, affordable part-time and full-time childcare. Drop-in care may also be available. Reach out to your Center Director to learn more.

How does naptime work at Carmel KinderCare?

Our teachers meet every child’s needs during naptime. Our teachers know how to get babies to nap. In fact, they are pros at getting children of any age to nap. Visit our article on “10 Ways We Help Kids Get a Great Daycare Nap” to learn more.

Do you support alternative diets?

We strive to be as inclusive as possible. To that point, we provide a vegetarian option at mealtime, take care to not serve common allergens and can adapt menus based on your child’s food sensitivities. If your child has additional needs, we’ll work with you to figure out a plan.

Are meals included in tuition? Can I choose to send my child with lunch?

We provide nutritious meals and snacks developed by a registered dietician to meet the needs of rapidly growing bodies and minds. If your child has special dietary requirements and you would prefer to bring in their lunch, please make arrangements with the center director.

Does my child need to be potty-trained?

Every child begins toilet learning at a different age. Until your child shows an interest in toilet learning, we’ll provide diaper changes on an as-needed basis. When your child shows an interest, we’ll discuss how to work together to encourage toilet learning.

The Ultimate List of Fifth Grade Sight Words

Spread the love

Sight words are an essential aspect of language that is often difficult for young kids to grasp fully. You see, they fill a niche in the English language that people who have been speaking the language all their life will instinctively know regardless of your actual education on the matter.

However, young students may have a hard time understanding or identifying sight words, making teaching them a bit more tricky. Thankfully, young kids are like sponges who love innovative and exciting ways for them to absorb information. Today, we are publishing a list a fifth grade sight words that you can use with your students.

Russian. 3rd class.

UMK : “School of Russia”.

Lesson objectives:

Educational:

  • To form an idea of compound words.
  • To introduce the method of formation and the method of spelling compound words.
  • To form the ability to distinguish between one’s own knowledge and ignorance using the example of spelling words.

Developing:

  • To develop the ability to observe, compare, draw conclusions.
  • Develop cognitive activity.

Educational:

  • To cultivate independence, the ability to work in groups.
  • To develop the ability to conduct a learning dialogue.
  • Raise interest in the native language.

Equipment: textbook for grade 3 L.M. Zelenina “Russian language”, part 2.

Course of the lesson

I. Organizational moment

– Guys, check your readiness for the lesson: the desk should have a Russian language notebook, a textbook, a diary, a simple pencil, a pen.

II. Actualization of knowledge and skills, methods of action

2.1. Calligraphy.

Purpose: correction of calligraphic errors in writing the lowercase letter D.

Words written on the board: ice, move

– What do these words have in common? (number of letters, letter D at the end of words)

– Write these words beautifully and correctly, alternating on the line. Make sure the letter D is spelled correctly, the bottom loop should be below the bottom working line, and the intersection should be on the line.

Assessment of calligraphy skills.

2.2. Independent work.

– Pick up words with the same root for each word and write it down in two columns. Select their root.

Frontal check (several children one by one write down invented words on the board in two columns) .

– Prove that the words in each column have the same root (words have one root, one meaning)

– What helped you cope with the task? ( knowledge of the rule about the root of the word )

2. 3. Problematic situation.

A card with the word appears on the board

– In which group of related words will you write this word? (children’s answers)

– I believe that this word will be related to the first group of words. (“trap”)

– Can you now answer my question exactly? (no)

– Explain the lexical meaning of the word ( children’s answers )

– Write the word in a notebook. Highlight the root of the word. ( children themselves identify the root )

All options for completing this task are recorded on the board.

2.4. Fixing the gap in knowledge. Statement of the educational task.

– Why was the task given one, but you completed it differently? What difficulties arose? ( this word is different from other words we have met before )

– How is this word unusual? ( two words were combined in one word, and we have not met such words before )

– What do we not know? ( how to find the root in such words, whether this word is related or not )

– What learning task shall we set? ( how such words are formed and called, in which two words )

Put a question mark next to the word.

– How smart you are! So you will be able to keep going.

III. Discovery of a new method

3.1. Conversation.

– What questions do you have? I will write them on the board.

1. Is it possible to form one word from two different ones?

2. Can a word have two roots or always only one?

3. What are these words called?

(If the class is strong, then the children formulate questions; if the class is weak, the teacher helps)

– Do you want to know the answers to these questions? ( want )

3.2. Group work.

– To find answers to these questions, I suggest working in groups.

Each group has an envelope with a work plan and cards on the table:

Action plan:

1. Select the root in the words that are written on the cards.

2. Make a word: using cards with the letters O, E, I, A, connect these roots
(watch for a hard or soft consonant, the first root ends).

3. Read the word and use a dictionary to explain its meaning.

3.3. Checking and evaluation of group work.

A representative from the group goes to the blackboard and writes down the words received.

– What did you do to get a new word? ( we connected two roots )

– What action is there in mathematics to connect two parts? ( addition )

– So, to get a new word, you added two roots? (Yes)

How can you name all the words that are the result of addition? ( complex )

– How did we connect the two roots? (With the help of vowels O, E )

– How can these vowels be called? ( connecting )

3. 4. Create a helper schema.

Let’s return to the questions written on the board.

1. Is it possible to form one word from two different ones?

2. Can a word have two roots or always only one?

3. What are these words called?

Children’s answers.

– How can such words be sketched? (Two roots and a letter between them)

An assistant diagram appears on the board.

General conclusions.

– Are all words in Russian complex? ( no )

– How to determine that a word is compound? ( explain the meaning of the word, pick up words with the same root )

– When did you add the roots, in what cases did you use the connecting vowel O, and when – E) ( if hard – you need to write O, if soft – E )

– Have your knowledge changed? What new has been added to the already existing knowledge about the words of the Russian language? (there are simple words with one root, and compound words with two roots)

IV. Fizminutka

We were tired, we sat too long,
We wanted to warm up.
We put aside notebooks,
We started to exercise. (One hand up, the other down, jerkily change hands.)
Now they looked at the wall,
Then they looked out the window.
Right, left turn,
And then vice versa. (Turns with the body.)
We start squats,
bend the legs to the end.
Up and down, up and down,
Don’t rush to squat! (Squats.)
And they sat down for the last time,
And now they sat down at their desks. (Children sit at their desks.)

V. Primary consolidation of new knowledge

5.1 Work in pairs.

Task card.

– Read the words. Find difficult words, write out and highlight the root in them. The first row – card No. 1, the second row – No. 2, the third row – No. 3

1. gardener, gardener, gardener

2. strawberry, digger, earth

3. water carrier, water, water

Front check in progress.

5.2. Textbook work.

– Compare your conclusions with the rule in the textbook on page 40. (Children read the rule. Compare. Draw conclusions.)

5.3. Independent work.

– Do the exercise from the textbook on your own, using the knowledge that you have discovered today. Do not forget about the scheme – an assistant.

This work will be assessed when the teacher checks the notebooks.

VI. Control

– And now I suggest you play the game. Look at the slide.

– Make the correct words. Write down one word in your notebook.

Frontal assessment of knowledge.

Summary of the lesson. Reflection

– Do you remember what learning task you set yourself at the beginning of the lesson? ( how are such words formed and called, in which two words )

– Have we solved this problem? (Yes)

– What will help us in the future in working with a compound word? (helper diagram)

– Now, each of you, give an assessment of your work in the lesson. By holding up a card with a certain color, you will answer the question “How did I learn the educational material today?”

  • Green – I learned, understood, what compound words are.
  • Yellow color – I doubt my knowledge about compound words.
  • Red – I would like to review the study material.

VIII. Homework

  1. Complete the exercise from the textbook (p. 41, exercise 79).
  2. Pick up and write down 5 difficult words. Break them down by composition.

Minoxidil for hair? 4-pyrimidinediamine-3-oxide

900 03 Characteristics of the substance Minoxidi

l

Minoxidil is a drug that is quite often used to treat diseases associated with baldness and hair loss. It is a white powder, practically odorless. Crystal granules quickly dissolve in water at room temperature, as well as in ethanol, methanol, propylene glycol and propanol. Minoxidel does not react and does not dissolve in acetone, ethyl acetate and chloroform.

History of minoxidil

The drug itself was developed by Upjohn in the 1950s. for the treatment of ulcers. Scientists were disappointed to find that it did not cure ulcers. However, they were surprised when the drug had an unexpected effect of dilating the blood vessels. The results led to FDA approval of minoxidil tablets in 1979 for the treatment of high blood pressure. After further research into the effects of minoxidil, scientists noticed that some patients reported unexpected hair growth. Researchers soon learned that turning the tablets into a liquid and applying directly to the scalp had a positive effect on growth. At 1988 FDA approved minoxidil for the treatment of alopecia.

Restrictions on use

Not recommended for use in angina pectoris, heart failure, and ischemic heart disease. Also, do not stimulate hair growth with the help of a person under the age of twelve. This is because experience with children is limited.

Minoxidil hair application

Minoxidil has hypotensive and vasodilating effects. Active substances stimulate hair growth.

The use of the drug allows you to activate potassium channels, to act on cells at the peripheral level. Expansion of arterioles or resistive vessels, a decrease in the load on the myocardium, a decrease in blood pressure contributes to reflex tachycardia and an increase in cardiac output, which allows hair to grow faster. Due to the complex effect, the activity of blood plasma renin increases. In addition, at the cellular level, water and sodium are not excreted.

Minoxidil is actively used in the treatment of problems associated with androgen-dependent alopecia. Strengthening hair growth is achieved due to vasodilation, as well as a significant improvement in microcirculation in the skin. Hair follicles gradually move from the resting phase to the growth phase. There is a so-called change from the telogen phase to the anagen phase. The effect of androgens on the hair follicles is modulated. The amount of 5-alpha-dehydrosterone produced, which contributes to the development of baldness, is reduced.

The maximum effect on hair growth can be achieved if you start using minoxidil at a young age, if the disease has developed recently. The result will be more noticeable if you process a bald spot localized in the parietal region, which has a size of no more than ten centimeters.

You can see the real results of using the drug with photos on this page. Of course, in more advanced cases, the result of using the drug will also be noticeable. However, it is better to start the fight against baldness at the initial stage.

In most cases, hair growth is observed after a few months of regular use of the drug. However, when you stop taking minoxidil, you can find the appearance of small bald patches in problem areas.

It is important to note that menaxidil is not able to cope with the problem of baldness caused by the use of drugs, as well as malnutrition, as a result of which the body did not receive the required dose of iron, vitamin A and other useful elements. The use of minoxidil will not help if hair loss is associated with the constant wearing of tight hairstyles.

The maximum effect in a short period of time was noticed by patients who started using the product within five years after the first signs of the disease were detected.

90% of the administered dose is absorbed after oral administration. The peak value is reached within one hour. Applying the drug topically, applying it to the skin, you can get about 1.4% of the active ingredient.

When conducting experimental tests, experts did not reveal a mutagenic effect.

Examples of formulations containing minoxidil

Dosage and administration

Minixidil is used to treat hair growth problems in adults and children over twelve years of age. Initially, 5 mg / day is prescribed, divided into two doses. If necessary, the dose is gradually increased every few days. Maximum per day is taken up to 100 mg of the drug in one or more doses. To maintain the effect during the course of treatment, 10-40 mg is prescribed.

For children, the initial, average and maximum doses are 0.2, 0.2-1 and 50 mg.

Topically, minoxidil is applied to the scalp twice a day. One ml of the solution is evenly distributed over the entire surface, starting from the center of the affected area.

If signs of renal insufficiency are found, the dose of the drug must be reduced.

Precautions for substances Minoxidil

Minoxidil solution should not be allowed to come into contact with the eyes. In the event of such a case, it is necessary to rinse the eyes with plenty of water and immediately seek help from a medical institution.

Safety studies have not been conducted in minors and persons over 65 years of age. The effectiveness of the solution for these groups of people has not been determined.

Special instructions

If the patient has arterial hypertension, minoxidil should be used in combination with diuretics and beta-blockers.

Use during pregnancy and lactation.

The drug passes into the placenta, as well as into breast milk. Use is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation. For the period of treatment, it is advisable to stop breastfeeding.

Side effects

Side effects may occur with prolonged use of minoxidil. We are talking about:

– periodic headaches, dizziness and decreased vision;

– arrhythmias, tachycardia, low blood pressure, heart failure, angina pectoris;

– hypertrichosis, increased hair pigmentation, dry scalp, as well as rash, erythema, folliculitis.

Also possible allergic reactions – rhinitis, facial swelling, rash or urticaria.

Overdose

Overdose symptoms of drug use are severe hypotension, vasodilatation, chest pain, tachycardia, arrhythmias, neuritis, and water and sodium retention.

Comprehensive treatment will help to cope with the signs of an overdose. We are talking about systematic and supportive therapy. The patient is given intravenous saline. With hypotension, angiotensin, phenylephrine, dopamine are prescribed.

Minoxidil is an effective preparation for hair growth, and especially it is a magical remedy for people prone to baldness. It has a complex effect on the body, starts processes at the cellular level. However, it is better to use it under the supervision of specialists who, if necessary, will adjust the treatment regimen and prescribe additional drugs. No ratings yet. Rate first.

Healthy Growth and Development Immune Health Support Energy Metabolism

Excellent Source of 10 Essential Vitamins
This delicious gummy formula provides over 10 essential vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin A for eye health, B Vitamins for energy metabolism, Vitamin C for immune function and collagen synthesis, Vitamin D for bone development, and key minerals Iodine and Zinc for healthy growth. Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin which assists in many other functions including healthy vision.† This essential vitamin is needed to form rhodopsin, an important part of the retina that provides information about color and visual images.

B Vitamins are also in this formula and include B6, Folic Acid, B12, Biotin, and Pantothenic Acid. B Vitamins are primarily known for supporting energy metabolism.† Each B Vitamin performs a unique role in maintaining proper metabolic functioning.† Folic Acid plays a significant role in the formation of new cells by being involved in DNA and RNA synthesis.† Natural food sources for B Vitamins include meat such as turkey, tuna and liver as well as eggs, milk and peanuts.

Vitamin C is one of the primary antioxidants in the body where it helps fight free radicals and oxidative stress.† Vitamin C is also important for the functioning of white blood cells, which are vital components of the immune system.†

Vitamin D’s major function is to support bone health by enhancing calcium and phosphorus absorption and maintaining healthy blood levels of these minerals.† Adequate Calcium and Vitamin D throughout life, as part of a well-balanced diet, may reduce the risk of osteoporosis. The American Academy of Pediatrics and Institute of Medicine both recommend children and adolescents receive 600 IU of Vitamin D per day. These gummies provide 600 IU of Vitamin D per serving for children 4 and up and 300 IU per serving for children 2 to 3, which helps to secure their intake requirement.

3rd Grade Vocabulary Game Ideas

There are tons of simple games you can play to build vocabulary with children in third grade. Try to think outside of the box and use games that 9-11 year olds will really enjoy.

Vocab Musical Chairs

Play a unique game of musical chairs without the music.

  1. Set up chairs in a circle so you have one chair for all but one student.
  2. Kids will walk around the chairs while you read vocab words.
  3. Instead of playing music, read off a list of vocabulary words.
  4. When you say a word that isn’t from your class vocabulary list, kids have to sit down in a chair.
  5. The person who doesn’t get a chair is out.
  6. Remove one chair from the game and continue.
  7. The last child sitting is the winner.

Vocabulary Sentence Race

If you’re working with only one student, challenge them to a vocab sentence race. The objective is to use as many vocabulary words properly in sentences as you can.

  1. Split your vocabulary list into groups of ten words.
  2. For the first list, start by saying “I can use X number of vocabulary words in separate sentences.
  3. Both people take turns saying how many of those 10 vocabulary words they can use in separate sentences within one minute.
  4. When one person feels like the other won’t be able to do what they say, this person says “Go ahead, use those words in sentences.”
  5. Start the timer and the challenged player has one minute to use the number of vocabulary words they said they could use, each in a different sentence.
  6. If the challenged person uses the right number of words in proper sentences before time is up, they get a point.
  7. Each round is played the same, but uses a different list of 10 vocabulary words.

Compiling a spelling dictionary

  • What is a spelling dictionary? When do we contact him?

Answer:

A spelling dictionary is a dictionary containing a list of words in their correct spelling.
We turn to the spelling dictionary when we do not know how to write a particular word. In order not to make a mistake, we look up the word in the dictionary and learn about the spelling.

Number 1.

Read an excerpt from M. Yasnov’s poem.

Spelling Dictionary

For last year’s errors
It is difficult for me to watch the demon of a smile.
I write better than many in the class.
Padarok Vasya fell for me:
We studied all of January
Arphagraphic slavar.

  • What mistakes did the student make? Try to fix them. And if you can’t fix it yourself, then look in the spelling dictionary!

Answer:

Last year – last, so last year.
Mistakes is a dictionary word, which means mistakes.
To look – look, means to look.
Smiles – smile means smiles.
Lucci – best means better.
Padaril – a prefix in-, means, gave.
Padarok is a prefix in -, which means a gift.
Studied – spelling thick, so they studied.
January is a dictionary word, meaning January.
Arfagrafichisky is a dictionary word, which means spelling.
Slavar is a word, meaning a dictionary.

Number 2.

Read the textbook table of contents. List the rules of writing that you have learned.

Answer:

Spelling of unstressed vowels in the root of the word: windmill – wind.
Spelling paired by sonority / deafness of consonants: cube – cubes.
Unpronounceable consonant in the root: sun – sunny.
Doubled consonants: class, lasso, saturday.

Number 3.

Remember these rules. Give examples of words that have spellings for the studied writing rules.

Answer:

Spelling of unstressed vowels at the root of a word: in order to understand which vowel should be written in a word, you need to choose a single-root word or change the form of the word so that the vowel at the root is under stress.
Windmill – wind.

Spelling of paired consonants according to voicing / deafness: in order to understand which consonant should be written in a word, you need to choose a single-root word or change the form of the word so that after a voiceless consonant there is a vowel or sonorant.
Oak – oaks, tooth – tooth.

An unpronounceable consonant in the root: in order to understand whether an unpronounceable consonant is written in a given word, you need to choose such a root word or change the form of the word so that a sonorant or vowel comes after the unpronounceable consonant.
The sun is sunny, hello is health.

Doubled consonants: spelling of doubled letters in a word should be memorized or checked in a spelling dictionary. When transferring words with a double consonant, you need to make sure that one letter remains on one line, and the other on the other.
Saturday: Saturday.

Number 4.

Read. Which rule corresponds to each group of words?

Task for exercise 4 Answer:

The first group is the spelling of the checked unstressed vowel at the root of the word.
The second group is the spelling of the pair according to the deafness of the sonority of the consonant.
The third group is the spelling of the unpronounceable consonant.
The fourth group is the spelling of a separating solid sign after a prefix ending in a consonant.
The fifth group is the spelling of an unchecked unstressed vowel.

  • Choose any rule and make your own dictionary of words with spelling for this rule.
