NATIONAL ELEPHANT APPRECIATION DAY – September 22, 2023
National Elephant Appreciation Day is a great time to give these majestic and beautiful creatures the respect they deserve. Elephants are the largest land mammals on Earth, so it’s only right that they have a day completely dedicated to them. Sadly, humans are increasingly placing the elephant’s future at risk. So, whether you’re a lifelong elephant lover or not, take time on September 22 to learn about these amazing pachyderms.

Why National Elephant Appreciation Day is Important
They’re endangered

They’re emotional
Pay attention to an elephant for a little while, and it’ll be easy to feel connected. Elephants are able to display fear, joy, excitement, and even grief. They’re also very social, meaning they’re more like humans than you may have realized.

NATIONAL ELEPHANT APPRECIATION DAY – September 22

NATIONAL ELEPHANT APPRECIATION DAY | SEPTEMBER 22
Remember, September 22nd recognizes National Elephant Appreciation Day. The elephant probably won’t forget.
#ElephantAppreciationDay
People of all ages are fascinated by elephants. Discover some interesting facts about them to celebrate with us!
These captivating and social animals live between 60 to 70 years. Like humans, elephants develop remarkably close family bonds. Two species, the African Savannah and Asian elephant, exist. However, recently scientists suggested that the African Forest elephant is also a unique species and not a subspecies.
Each day, poachers kill approximately 100 elephants for their ivory, meat, bones, and skin.
These pachyderms are closely related to rhinoceroses and hippos. In fact, pachyderm describes thick-skinned animals with hooves or nails similar to hooves. While the African elephants outgrow the Asian, both hold the prize for the largest land mammal on earth. However, there are some differences between the species, though.
Differences Between African & Asian Elephants:
The African elephant grows larger ears.
In the Asian species, only the male grows tusks. However, in the African, both male and female elephants grow tusks.
One of the things that fascinate us about elephants is their trunk. It’s super sensitive. At the end, a small finger-like appendage grows. The appendage, also known as a lobe, gives elephants the ability to pick up small twigs, bits of grass and other items. On the Asian elephant, the lobe grows at the top tip of the trunk. However, the African elephant grows a lobe at the top and bottom, giving it extra pinching dexterity.
Both species live in herds. The herds are led primarily by a matriarch and comprised of sisters, daughters and their young. As the males grow, they move off on their own. Asian herds tend to be smaller than the African herds.
While both species are herbivores, their diets vary based on the available habitat.
Elephants are spirited and playful animals. Have you ever seen them frolic in the water? And they will defend their own with their mighty tusks. Whether foraging for food or digging a mud hole, their tusks are vital for survival. Since hunters value the ivory more than the life of the elephant, they endanger the continued existence of these majestic animals.
Do elephants never forget? Well, studies have determined that elephants have excellent memories. They remember vital locations over large areas of land. Elephants also show recognition of faces and other elephants even after a long time has passed. And while we may be forgetful from time to time, we don’t recommend forgetting this holiday!
HOW TO OBSERVE ELEPHANT APPRECIATION DAY
Don’t forget to celebrate the Elephant on September 22nd! Show your appreciation today by visiting the elephants at your local zoo. Get involved. Learn about conservation and eliminating poaching.
Read up about elephants. We suggest The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony or Love, Live and Elephants: An African Love Story by Daphne Sheldrick. You could also read Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss or any of the Babar stories by Jean de Brunhoff.
Documentaries bring the life of the elephant into our living rooms. Watch Elephant directed by Mark Linfield or When Elephants Were Young directed by Patricia Sims.

NATIONAL ELEPHANT APPRECIATION DAY HISTORY
National Elephant Appreciation Day originated in 1996 to raise awareness concerning the plight of elephants.
Elephant FAQ
Q. What’s another word for an elephant? A. The word “pachyderm” is often used in reference to an elephant. However, the elephant isn’t the only pachyderm in the world. The obsolete term was once a classification of animals which also included hippopotamuses, rhinoceroses, pigs, and tapirs.
Q. Do elephants sleep standing up? A. Elephants do sleep standing up, though not all the time. Wild elephants will spend more time sleeping standing up than their captive relatives.
turns out they know how to play darts (video)
Every year on September 22, some countries celebrate Elephant Appreciation Day. For people, this is primarily an opportunity to express their gratitude to these majestic and amazing animals. It turns out that they have a lot of different talents.
Elephant Festival
This day was first announced in 1996 by WildHeart Productions. The main purpose of the holiday is to draw attention to these unique mammals. They are one of the noblest animals on earth. A species that is undeservedly endangered. Throughout history, the elephant has been a benefactor of mankind in many ways, cute and funny, gentle and friendly, plays a big role in the development and maintenance of the ecosystem and generally deserves to be appreciated and supported. This is an example of courage, strength, self-confidence, patience and perseverance.
Elephant Day is sponsored by WildHeart Productions, a Florida registered trademark owned by Mission Media, Inc., a digital and print graphics publisher. Mission Media is wholly owned by the Hepburn family of Sarasota, Florida.
What it’s for
Company founder Wayne Hepburn, who lived in the Chicago area in 1970, received a paperweight with an elephant-decorated base as a gift from his twelve-year-old daughter. Then he started buying figurines of these animals. K 19In 78, when he moved to Orange Park, Florida, he had about eighty elephants.
He became more interested in these animals, began to read and learn about them, look for them, ride them. The man supplemented his growing passion for elephants with a collection that in 1997 numbered nineteen hundred and nine cataloged items. Among them are figurines, toys, clothing, books (over 100), music boxes, jewelry, prints and original works of art, in short, every conceivable piece of art and artifacts related to elephants in one way or another. In addition, he collected examples of elephant images used in brand advertising, cartoons, and various print and other media.
He purchased the wildheart.com worldwide web domain in 1996 and hosted the one-of-a-kind ELEPHHANTERIA WildHeart site online as a place for elephant lovers to find everything that interests them and links to everything that isn’t there directly. on this page.
How Elephant Day is celebrated
Unlike most public holidays, this day does not have a central event. It can be done anywhere at the local level. “Elephant Day” and “Elephant Appreciation Day” are trademarks created in interstate commerce by Mission Media, Inc. Use is permitted for non-commercial purposes without obtaining a license. Any other use requires licensing by the trademark owner.
What elephants can do
They are incredibly smart and talented animals. For example, they can play football and darts. An annual festival in Surin Province, Thailand, is dedicated to elephants and everything they do. Highlights of the event include a football match and a dart throwing competition with an elephant.
They also help wash cars. Elephants at Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon will wash your car for as little as $20, but the terms say they don’t wash it! However, the elephants have fun by splashing water, and the money goes to the maintenance of the zoo.
A baby elephant in Phuket, Thailand enchants tourists with her dance skills and harmonica playing. And he’s not the only musician. An elephant named Five at the West Midlands Safari Park in England can play the harmonica, and an African elephant named Bubbles plays the harmonica at the Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina.
Kosik, an elephant from Yongin, Korea, made headlines a few years ago when zookeepers announced that the 16-year-old animal had learned to talk! Kosik was not specially taught to communicate, but the caretakers heard recognizable words coming from his enclosure.
The elephant could be heard saying yes, no, lie down, sit down (in Korean) and some other phrases used by its caretaker. It is doubtful that Kosik understands the meaning of words, but the reproduction of sounds in itself is a real achievement.
Elephants at the Island Safari Center in Koh Samui, Thailand, being taught how to play basketball. This activity is supposed to stimulate and maintain their health, and in addition, basketball games are very popular among tourists.
It takes only two or three months to teach an elephant how to handle a ball.
In Ponce DeLeon Springs, Florida, in 1959 or 1960, Queenie, a water-skiing elephant, lived.
A group of animals at the Maetaman Elephant Camp in Thailand learned to draw. Surprisingly, these are not abstract paintings, like most animals, but close to real images. Of course, they were taught this, but it doesn’t matter if they memorize the sequence of lines or draw what they see – this is an amazing achievement.

SIMFEROPOL, August 28 – RIA Novosti Crimea. In the Indian state of Kerala, a dog named Tommy died while protecting his owners from an angry elephant. People were not injured, Lenta.ru reports with reference to the Daily Star. The incident occurred at the end of August. A wild elephant tried to get into the courtyard of the site where a family of five lived, but got stuck in the fence. The animal went berserk, probably because of the pain of the barbed wire piercing its body, and broke the fence. The elephant was about to go to the people, as the dog blocked his way. Despite the impressive size of the enemy, Tommy rushed at the elephant and bit him on the leg, which further angered the wild animal. The elephant tried to strangle the dog with its trunk and pierced its body with sharp tusks. Even when wounded, Tommy scratched the elephant’s eye, and he was forced to retreat. The faithful dog was seriously injured, lived a couple more days after the fight and died on August 26, Dog Appreciation Day. Dog Appreciation Day or Dog Appreciation Day is celebrated on August 26. aThe following list of possible federal, state, and private funding sources to help pay for respite is by no means exhaustive. For additional possible federal respite funding sources and how to connect to them, see Federal Funding and Support Opportunities for Respite. Information on federal programs that support respite is presented in a summary table.
Lifespan Respite Care Programs
Not every state has a Lifespan Respite Care Program, but those that do often provide respite vouchers, grant or stipend programs to help families pay for respite through self-directed programs, especially for those caregivers who do not qualify for other publicly funded programs. See if your state has a Respite Voucher Program and apply.
Lifespan Respite Care grantees may also support volunteer or faith-based respite services that offer free or low-cost respite care. State Lifespan Respite Care programs often work in collaboration with a State Respite Coalition. Contact your State Lifespan Respite Care Program or State Respite Coalition for more information.
Medicaid Waivers:
Generally, every state offers some respite assistance though various Home and Community-based Medicaid Waivers. To find out which waivers that pay for respite are available in your state and information about eligibility, see ARCH’s Medicaid Waivers for Respite Support. Each state’s eligibility criteria and funding for waivers are different and you should also check with your state’s Medicaid office.
Medicaid State Plan:
If you live in a state that adopted the Section 1915(i) Medicaid State Plan Option for Home and Community-Based Services and the person you care for qualifies for Medicaid under income guidelines, respite may be covered under your state’s Medicaid plan without the need for a waiver. In FY 2020, 13 states (AR, CA, CT, DE, DC, ID, IN, IA, MI, MS, NV, OH, and TX) offered this option.
State Self-Direction Programs
If a person with a disability or chronic condition is eligible for Medicaid, they may qualify for financial assistance that can be used to purchase necessary home and community-based services and supports, including payment to the family caregiver or to pay for respite. Such programs are sometimes known as cash & counseling, consumer or self-directed programs, or other names selected by the state. Find state Self-Direction Programs on the Applied Self-Direction (asd) website,
Medicare Hospice Benefit:
If someone is eligible for Medicare and is in hospice, their caregivers are eligible for the Medicare respite benefit under Hospice Care. See more about the Medicare Hospice Benefit.
Medicare Advantage Plans:
Medicare Advantage plans may now cover non-medical supplemental benefits such as adult day services and respite. Other optional covered services that benefit the plan holder as well as their family caregivers may include home care, transportation to appointments, meal delivery and home modifications. Read more.
National Family Caregiver Support Program:
Funding may be available through the National Family Caregiver Support Program, which is administered through your local Area Agency on Aging (AAA), if you are caring for someone over the age of 60 or someone of any age with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. Funding for respite may also be available if you are a grandparent or other relative age 55 or older caring for a child or if you are parent or other relative age 55 or older caring for an adult child with disabilities. Visit the Eldercare Locator to contact your AAA about respite funding options.
State Family Caregiver Support or Respite Programs:
If your state has a state-funded family caregiver support or respite program, you may have respite funding available. Visit Services by State from the Family Caregiver Alliance for more information about a range of caregiving supports.
Veterans:
Veterans eligible for outpatient medical services can also receive non-institutional respite, outpatient geriatric evaluation and management services, and therapeutically-oriented outpatient day care. Respite care may be provided in a home or other non-institutional setting, such as a community nursing home. Ordinarily, respite is limited to no more than 30 days per year. The services can be contracted or provided directly by the staff of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) or by another provider or payor.
A program administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Program of Comprehensive Assistance to Family Caregivers is available to eligible Veterans who elect to receive their care in a home setting from a primary family caregiver. For more information, visit the VA Caregiver Support Program or call the VA Caregiver Support Line at 1-855-260-3274. See ARCH’s Nine Steps to Respite for Military and Veteran Caregivers for more information and additional resources.
Military Families:
Military families should also look to TRICARE’s Extended Care Health Option (ECHO) or the Military Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), which offers respite to anyone in the military who is enrolled in the EFMP and meets the criteria. See Matrix of Federal Programs for Respite for Military and Veteran Families for funding sources that also may be available to military families for respite.
The Respite Relief program from the Elizabeth Dole Foundation provides free in-home respite care for military and Veteran caregivers through CareLinx. Read more and apply.
Funding for Adult Day Services:
Original Medicare does not cover the cost of adult day services, but Medicaid can pay all the costs in a licensed center with a medical model or an Alzheimer’s environment if the senior qualifies financially. Some centers offer need-based scholarships. Others may use a sliding fee scale based on income. Private medical insurance policies sometimes cover a portion of adult day services costs when registered, licensed medical personnel are involved in the care. Long-term care insurance may also pay for adult day services, depending upon the policy. Dependent care tax credits may be available to the caregiver as well. See also Medicare Advantage above.
Private Funding Sources for Caregivers of Persons with Dementia:
The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration has a Comstock Respite Grant Program. Read more and apply.
The HFC In-Home Care Grant Program relieves caregivers, giving them time to rest, recharge and focus on their personal and professional life. Delivered with our partner, Home Instead, HFC’s Care Grants provide 3-6 months of free, professional, in-home care.
Contact your local Alzheimer’s Association or Alzheimer’s Foundation members to learn what kind of financial assistance may be available for respite care.
Private Funding Sources for Caregivers of People with Disabilities or Chronic Diseases
Some local or state affiliates of organizations such as Easterseals, The Arc, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the ALS Association may offer respite funding assistance or services on a sliding fee scale. Financial assistance for respite care (up to $500 annually) is available from NORD, the National Organization for Rare Diseases for caregivers who meet income eligibility guidelines and are caring for a child or adult with a confirmed rare disease diagnosis.
Faith-based Organizations
Many faith-based organizations, such as Lutheran Services in America, provide a range of home and community-based services, including respite, for disabled people, older adults, and their family caregivers at no or low cost. Check with your local faith organization.
Who pays for respite care? What you need to know
It can be both emotionally and financially challenging to see a loved one’s health decline with age. You’ll likely have to ask difficult questions like when might it be time for a move into a long-term care facility? Or perhaps you’ll need to hire home care. But in many cases, family caregivers step in.
Should you decide that your older loved one will age in place under the care of a loved one, whether for economic or emotional reasons, it’s unrealistic to assume that the family caregiver will always be able to provide the constant care that they need. That’s why planning for respite care is essential both for the senior as well as their primary caregiver.
What is respite care?
Even if you feel like you’re doing fine handling it all on your own, caring for an aging parent or older loved one can be both mentally and physically taxing. But it also isn’t logistically feasible to devote 100% of your time to caregiving responsibilities. That’s where respite care comes in.
This is short-term relief or respite, typically for a family member taking care of a loved one, and is a way of giving the primary caregiver a break or allowing them to go away for a short period of time. Typically, this temporary coverage for a set amount of days, not a few hours, and is usually for one to four weeks.
Care might be provided in-home by a professional caregiver from an agency or the loved one might go to an assisted living or memory care facility — sometimes as a trial for a future admission, explains Glenn Lane, founder of Westchester Family Care in Mamaroneck, New York. You might also consider an adult day care.
Whether provided at home or a facility, respite care provides personal time and backup support for the senior’s primary caretaker. This is essential for their mental and emotional health as well as the well-being of the senior. “Caregivers need a break because caregiving is physically and emotionally demanding,” says Marguerita Cheng, certified financial planner and Chief Executive Officer of Blue Ocean Global Wealth in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
How much does respite care cost?
When you pay for respite care, you are paying for someone to take over all primary caregiving responsibilities so how much this costs depends on many factors. These include:
Services. Does your loved one require personal care, medical assistance or just recreational services?
The length of time you need care for.
The state you live in.
Location of care. Is it private, at-home care, at a day program like adult day care or at an overnight facility?
According to the latest Genworth Cost of Care Survey, the national median hourly cost of homemaker services is $23.50 and a home health aide is $24.00. The national median daily rate for adult day health care is $74 and an assisted living facility $141.
The most affordable option: Depending on an older adult’s needs, daily respite services outside the home, like a day program, are typically the most affordable option and tend to cost $10 to $20 per hour, notes Elle Billman, program coordinator of Colorado Respite Coalition.
The second most affordable option: In-home respite care might be the next most budget-friendly choice. Because it involves a trained professional coming to the senior’s location to provide one-on-one care, home care typically costs more at $20-35 per hour, says Billman.
The most expensive option: This would involve temporarily moving a senior into an overnight facility. Lane explains that although costs vary depending on the region where the care is provided or the facility is located, he estimates a short-term stay in an assisted living facility would be 10-20% more than the normal costs for a long-term resident in that region. This fee covers the room or apartment, housekeeping and meals in addition to assistance with activities of living and companionship for the agreed upon amount of time.
How to pay for respite care
Whether your respite care has an hourly or daily rate, the costs are likely to add up quickly. That’s why many family caregivers and older adults turn to insurance for help. However, not all insurance even partially covers this type of care, let alone fully.
Here’s what you need to know about each type of policy.
Health insurance: This type of insurance simply doesn’t cover respite care, explains Cheng.
Medicare: This federal government health insurance program provides medical benefits for qualifying individuals as well as those over 65. But according to Brad Baune, a wealth management advisor at Northwestern Mutual in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, Medicare generally only covers short-term overnight stays at a hospital or skilled nursing facility after a qualifying hospitalization up to five days. “Medicare can help if you qualify, but often you will not be able to choose your facility,” says Baune.
However, for respite care for a hospice patient, coverage is much more substantial. Medicare-certified hospice care, including medical, nursing, social, aide and homemaker services are all covered. For inpatient respite care, you may have to pay 5% of the Medicare-approved amount.
Medicaid: Although funded by the federal government, this is a state-run program for qualifying lower-income individuals so exact benefits are dependent upon where you live. Some states provide some respite care assistance under Medicaid’s Home & Community-Based Care Services waiver program.
Long-term care insurance: Depending on the existing plan, LTC insurance will provide coverage for custodial care in a nursing home, home health care or adult daycare, explains Price.
Veterans benefits: For qualifying veterans and survivors who are housebound or need help with daily activities, monthly respite care assistance is offered through the VA Aid and Attendance benefit. Additional respite care support may be available depending on where you live, including nursing home respite care for up to 30 days per year.
Other helpful respite care resources
Cheng recommends the following for those looking for additional respite care assistance:
The ARCH National Respite Locator Service for help finding local services in your community.
The Well Spouse Association provides support for loved ones of chronically ill or disabled people along with information on local support groups.
Despite the cost of respite care, Cheng hopes that primary caregivers realize that this temporary respite from caregiving can be priceless. “Caregivers experience emotional, mental, physical and financial stress — plus, they can also feel overwhelmed and isolated,” she says. “Don’t be afraid or feel guilty about asking for help.”
The authorities of the Volgograd region have outlined two options for changing the waste management operator
Society
13 Jul 14:04, 2 photo
The head of the regional committee of nature spoke about the departure of the regional operator for the treatment of solid waste, and also told the residents of Volgograd whether they are waiting for changes in tariffs for garbage removal.
Previously, Gorodskiye Vesti reported that on July 12, a procedure was launched in the Volgograd Region to deprive Cimatic-Volgograd of the status of a regional operator from July 14, 2023.
Today, July 13, a press conference was held at the RIAC site to discuss this issue. Aleksey Sivokoz, Chairman of the Committee for Natural Resources, Forestry and Ecology of the Volgograd Region, named the grounds for revoking the company’s license.
The reason for making such a decision was repeated violations of the rules for the provision of public services (lack of high-quality and timely removal of MSW from container sites), debt to operators for the management of MSW (exceeded 1/12 of the required gross revenue), violation of the terms of the agreement concluded between the reoperator and Volgograd region regarding the untimely provision of a bank guarantee. Also, this decision was influenced by the non-compliance of the work of the regoperator with the requirements of federal legislation, numerous acts of the prosecutor’s response to these facts, and the recommendations of the Ecological Council under the Volgograd Regional Duma.
– The Committee has taken various actions to resolve this problem and stabilize the situation in the region. There was a constructive dialogue. For some time, we have been trying to get the regoperator to start fulfilling its obligations with high quality, – Alexey Sivokoz explained. – However, we have seen that there are no trends for improvement. As soon as events occurred that allowed us to deprive the reoperator of this status, we did it.
Let’s also note that until the conclusion of a new contract with another regoperator, Citymatic-Volgograd LLC will be obliged to perform its work.
– Nothing will change in bills for residents. In accordance with the requirements of the legislation (Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of November 14, 2022 No. 2053 “On the peculiarities of indexation of regulated prices (tariffs) from December 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023 and on amendments to certain acts of the Government of the Russian Federation”), they will continue current rates apply. The revision will be carried out throughout the country when the relevant federal act is issued. In this case, new tariff decisions will come into force on July 1, 2024, the Tariff Regulation Committee of the Volgograd Region told Gorodskiy Vesti.
The procedure for changing a regional operator will be as painless as possible for residents of the Volgograd region.
– The task of the authorities is, first of all, so that residents do not notice the change of the regional operator, so that there are no failures with the timely removal of municipal solid waste, therefore, the legislator provided that in the event of depriving a legal entity of the status of a regional operator before choosing a new regional operator, the regional operator , which was deprived of the status, performs all duties for the treatment of municipal solid waste. Nothing should change for us during the transitional period. Within a year, the authorized body will select a new regional operator on a competitive basis, with which it will conclude a new agreement based on the results of the competition and will be assigned the status of a new regional operator, – said Alexei Sivokoz, head of the regional nature committee.
Also, according to the expert, in the event of a deterioration in the environmental situation, if the regional operator refuses to fulfill its obligations, then criminal liability will follow.
In addition, it is possible to select a temporary reoperator for the treatment of MSW until a new reoperator is selected on a competitive basis.
– We will be closely monitoring this now, and in case of deterioration of the ecological situation in the region, such a decision may be made, – said Sivokoz.
In July, payment for garbage collection will be made, according to the expert, to the regional operator Citymatic-Volgograd. After the deprivation of the status, until the selection of a temporary re-operator or until elections are held on a competitive basis, payment will also be made to the former re-operator “Citimatic”. Only after choosing a new regoperator, the data in the payment will change.
– Who will apply on a competitive basis, we do not know – assured the head of the regional committee of nature.
It is noted that now, when choosing a new reoperator, the experience of waste disposal companies will be taken into account.
– Residents of the Volgograd region have the opportunity to conclude an agreement with a new regional operator in writing or not to conclude in writing, since the regional operator is obliged to provide them with a service, – said Sivokoz, noting that most residents of Volgograd and the region do not have contracts for provision of services, and this is not a violation of the law.
Garbage containers that are in the yards of Volgograd residents and residents of the region will not be taken anywhere, they will be taken over by local governments and will remain in their original places.

Temporary care for the disabled
Care for the disabled has a number of special features. Moreover, it may vary depending on the severity of the condition of the ward. For this reason, there is a division into temporary and long-term care. Knowing the nuances allows you to decide which strategy is appropriate in a particular case, and make the right decision. And also to protect the interests of a person with a disability, if necessary.
What is respite care?
When a patient needs constant care after suffering a serious illness, injury or surgery for only a certain period of time, care is provided temporarily. In this case, the caregiver performs his duties only during the period of rehabilitation or complication of the patient’s health condition. In addition, the recommendations of the attending physician on terms and other parameters are taken into account.
It is also possible to provide respite care in a hospital setting if professionals have assessed the risks and concluded that it would be appropriate to place the disabled person in a medical facility. As a rule, this measure is required in case of a sharp deterioration in the patient’s condition and the presence of a threat to health and life. Rehabilitation after suffering attacks and illnesses can also be carried out in boarding houses with treatment.
What are the features of long-term care for a disabled person?
Long-term care is required for those people who suffer from serious illnesses and have disabilities. In most cases, the caregiver will carry out caregiving duties until the end of the patient’s life or the end of the contract if it has been decided to terminate the partnership. Then the relatives or representatives of the disabled person are looking for another person or organization that will provide the patient with the necessary assistance.
As a rule, disabled people of the 1st group and 2nd groups of incapacity need exactly long-term care, since the deviation of indicators from the norm can reach up to 100%. Accordingly, in this case, a person is not able to live independently and perform the usual things. Disabled people of the 1st group and incapacitated persons need constant help from relatives, guardians, trustees and third parties so that their quality of life remains at a decent level. It is worth considering the fact that independent living and the lack of control by an able-bodied person can be dangerous for both the disabled person and the people around him.
Also, the goal of long-term care for a disabled person is rehabilitation, including social rehabilitation. In this case, the caregiver gradually teaches the ward to perform those actions that allow him to carry out the features of the physical condition. Long-term care is possible not only in special institutions, such as boarding houses for the disabled with treatment, but also at home.
As a rule, a nurse is hired for home care. The contract is concluded by relatives or representatives of the disabled person in case of his incapacity. Also, the opinion of a disabled person is not taken into account when choosing a candidate for the position of a carer or caregiver, or a FOU. Depending on the condition of the patient and the availability of free time for relatives of a person with a disability, a nurse may be hired on a part-time basis, with accommodation and other types of employment. In addition, it is important that the part-time carer is a nurse, as long-term care responsibilities include providing medical services. For example, a nurse should give injections, perform massages, take medical records, and stop seizures.
As for boarding houses with treatment, they must have a license without fail. This document guarantees that qualified specialists work in the institution, the rooms are equipped with the necessary equipment, residential and other premises are suitable for people with disabilities, the building is not in an emergency condition. Nurses are constantly on duty in boarding houses with treatment, doctors regularly make rounds and monitor the condition of patients, nurses provide comprehensive assistance to guests. A balanced menu has also been developed and a system of five or six meals a day has been introduced.

Failed Silicon Valley bank bought by competitor
Image copyright Reuters
Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), a bankrupt US bank, is being bought by rival bank First Citizens BancShares.
The collapse of SVB in early March raised concerns about the stability of other lenders. As a result, the shares of banks around the world rapidly fell in price.
In Europe, fears about the stability of the Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse resulted in its purchase by another competitor – UBS.
Shares of banks in the world fell due to the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. This is the biggest banking crash since 2008
Markets are still nervous, although on Monday stocks in the banking sector went up on the stock exchange.
SVB, which has lent money to a significant number of Silicon Valley startups, has been going through tough times for months now, with poor governance and the overall tech sector taking its toll.
The bank was unable to find $2.25 billion to cover losses from the sale of assets – mainly government securities that changed in price after the discount rate hike.
And the so-called bank run led to the final collapse of the bank – “customer raid”, when, for various reasons, SVB clients began to massively withdraw their savings – primarily because of concerns about the bank’s stability, but partly because in the current financial climate, tech startups are cash-strapped.

The US financial regulator shut down Silicon Valley Bank and confiscated its assets.
Following SVB, another American bank, Signature Bank, went bankrupt.
The collapse of SVB and Signature was the largest US bankruptcy since the 2008 financial crisis.
Under the SVB takeover deal announced by the US Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), all 17 former SVB branches will reopen under the First Citizens brand from Monday.
SVB customers are encouraged to continue using their branch until notified by First Citizens Bank that their accounts have been fully transferred.
First Citizens, headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, is one of the largest family-owned banks in the US. In recent years, he has become one of the largest buyers of troubled banks.
He purchased about $72 billion worth of assets and loans – $16. 5 billion less than they were worth. The remaining assets of SVB, worth about $90 billion, will continue to be managed by the FDIC.
The corporation said the SVB bankruptcy cost its deposit insurance fund approximately $20 billion.
After the bankruptcy of SVB, its British division was bought by HSBC for a symbolic one pound.
Interest rates were cut sharply during the 2008 global financial crisis and again during the Covid-19 pandemicwhen central banks around the world tried to stimulate economic growth in this way.
However, over the past year, rates have been rising – central banks are trying to contain the rapid rise in prices.
This rise in rates, which hit the value of investments in which banks keep part of their money, also contributed to the bankruptcy of US SVB and Signature.
Why did Western banks start having problems and is the world facing a financial crisis?
The collapse of the SVB has sparked new concerns about the soundness of the financial system, especially as the tight restrictions imposed after the 2008 financial crisis are slowly easing. Fears are growing that there are actually many more troubled banks – it’s just that these problems have not yet surfaced.
Many banks may be worse off than they appear on paper as they lose money on government bonds, which are cheapened by higher interest rates.
Central banks around the world insist that the banking system is safe, the capitalization of banks is sufficient and they have enough working capital.
However, Sarah Huyn, head of European and US research at Standard Chartered, told the BBC that there is “a very hectic environment” among investors.
“Psychology controls the markets at the moment, not reality,” she observed.
On Sunday, the head of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, said “the need to be vigilant” given the turmoil in the banking sector, and noted that risks to financial stability have increased.
“In a period of rising debt levels, the rapid transition from a long period of low interest rates to much higher rates . .. inevitably creates stress and vulnerability,” Georgieva said.
Justin McCurry. Story one – Money on vc.ru
Justin McCurry is perhaps the most famous story of early retirement. But in Russian I found very weak and superficial materials. Therefore, I decided to write his story in Russian myself.
22501
views
Justin writes on his blog:
Through careful saving and planning, I was able to accumulate enough money to become financially independent, allowing me to retire at 33.
If too lazy to read, you can see:
Justin and his wife stopped working in 2013 and 2016, respectively, and by the beginning of 2020, their portfolio not only didn’t lose weight, but, on the contrary, grew by 70% over 6 years of a growing stock market: in 2013, at the moment retirement portfolio was $1.25 million, and as of January 2020, their portfolio is already $2.26 million.
They live in North Carolina (it’s a poor state on the east coast, between New York and Florida). They have three children, and now their main occupation is traveling.
Both Justin and his wife enjoy a thrifty lifestyle—they travel during the off-season, buy cheap brand clothes, live in a modest neighborhood, drive a modest car. But they are happy, because this is a payment for the fact that since the age of 33 there is no such column as “work” in their schedule.
Of course, Justin’s diligence surprises. Even at school, he earned money as best he could: he bought sweets in bulk and sold them individually, delivered newspapers, mowed lawns to neighbors, and tutored elementary school students. After school, he chose an inexpensive and far from the most prestigious university, where he also continuously worked part-time so as not to take a loan for education.
At 21, he moved from college to law school. At that time, the amount had already accumulated (wife added) to buy a modest apartment in Raleigh (North Carolina), and at that time he had already found a good job in a consulting company.
For their savings, they used all life hacks that the US can give its citizens: this is both pension savings systems (401 (k) and IRA), this is the health care savings account (HSA, 457), and savings for the education of children (529).
Such account management turned out to be so successful that during the years of work they paid a ridiculous $150-600 in taxes on the income of individuals per year with annual incomes of over $100,000. In 2003, again, a modest house was bought at an auction for 70% of the cost of neighboring analogues, in which they still live.
And in 2005, a small apartment in the city was sold as unnecessary, and the money was invested.
Plan
They developed an early retirement plan right out of college. The plan has changed over the years, and the ideal investment amount has changed many times.
Justin writes: “It’s sly to say you’ve made a 100% plan to retire permanently and there’s no chance you’ll ever have to work again. There is always uncertainty. The best thing you can do is accept the fact that flexibility in the face of unforeseen conditions will work better than rigid planning. But a plan is still needed.
So, how was the portfolio formed? You can see that Justin and his wife are not some super-rich Americans with incredibly large earnings. Maximum salary for all time — $69 eachthousand per year and $138 thousand for the whole family at its peak in 2013.
This is slightly above the average salary in the US, which, according to various estimates, varies around $50,000 a year. The main condition here, as you can see, is life for 30-40% of the earned.
What if there is a crisis?
Probably the most asked question to long-term investors from the idle public. The main principle in Justin during the collapse of 2008-2009 (when a decent amount had already been accumulated) was not to succumb to the general hysteria and not to sell.
He rather did the opposite – namely, he bought the most risky and aggressive assets during these two years. Of course, it was a bit scary to see the market drop 7% on the day. But he calls it “a great shopping opportunity.”
The money he was “losing” was a long-term investment, so why should it matter if it fell 7% in a day? In 2008, their portfolio lost $140,000 out of $445,000, that is, by 31%. But at a distance it turned out to be unimportant. What matters is how much these assets will be worth in 10 or 20 years, not today or tomorrow.
The plan has been incredibly effective in keeping Justin from looking for a job after being laid off in 2013. Having initially experienced the stress of being laid off from work, he suddenly realized that now it has come – there is no need to look for another job! After all, you can live on a percentage of $1.25 million!
And the capital continued to grow – the bull market brings in much more than it spends, in January 2020 the portfolio was already $ 2.26 million. Plus 80% without working for 7 years, would you like to live like this?

A feature of most early retirees is their commitment to ETFs (funds that buy shares of several hundred companies and sell shares in this fund, thereby for $ 100 people can afford to diversify funds for the entire economy of the country or the whole region), and Justin is no exception .
The picture shows the calculation for a million dollars. This structure brings a 2.6% yield, while having a good natural increase in value.
It is easy to calculate that as of 2019a year that has grown to $ 2.1 million, the portfolio brings him about $ 47 thousand dividends a year, although in fact Justin claims that he receives less in his account, because part of the funds lies in the pension fund under the 401 (k) system (something similar to our PFR) without the possibility of withdrawing funds without penalty until old age. And that part of the dividends is constantly reinvested.
Costs
Justin’s family’s retirement budget was $32,000 in 2013. $2,670 a month is very modest in the US, but enough to travel low-cost countries for months and lead a modest (but fulfilling) life in the provinces.
Starting in 2016, he increased the limits to $40,000 per year, or $3,333 per month. Justin publishes all his expenses and incomes monthly. In principle, all dividends received during the year always cover living expenses, that is, Justin does not sell his portfolio, allowing him to continue to grow.
What about the children?
Justin writes: “According to research, it costs about $300,000 to raise each child in the United States. I can’t understand how they spend so much money on little creatures whose favorite things are cardboard boxes and shiny pieces of plastic up to 7 years old.”
Indeed, the modest spending on children’s toys is fully offset by the fact that parents spend almost all the time with their children at home, outdoors and traveling. Justin is pragmatic about the education of his children – he does not plan to spend a lot of money on the prestige of the institution, because he does not see the point in it.
So, a modest but cozy University of North Carolina will cost $24,000 a year, and if you save on a hostel (live in your parents’ house), then the cost of education will be only $10,000 a year, which is mere pennies for the USA.
Possible state subsidies have not yet been taken into account, but this is already a separate topic for conversation, uninteresting to us from the point of view of early retirement in Russia.
Speaking of travel.
Here, too, there is room for smart savings to roam: travel during the low season, always free time for careful planning, a selection of inexpensive and authentic accommodation options, premium cards with extra miles from banks that operate accounts with big sums of money.
So, in a short period from January to August 2019, they visited Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, while not exceeding the planned budget.
Justin’s advice to those who are at the beginning of the journey
Start saving and investing early, even if you don’t have a specific goal in mind.
Avoid trusts and structured products and invest on your own in low-cost passive index funds.
Track your expenses and investments with a spreadsheet or other free tool.
When the market crashes, keep saving and investing. Terrible times in the markets have a very indirect relationship to your portfolio, the value of which is important not at a moment in time, but over decades.
Resist peer pressure to improve your lifestyle as your earnings rise. Your peers can spend all their income living for today, but do you need to?
Save. Even if you don’t have a million in ten years, you will still have a lot more than zero.
All material was prepared by me and agreed with Justin, whom we know remotely. The fact is that I am one of those who save for retirement from a young age in extreme mode.
According to calculations, by the age of 43 my savings will be able to feed me 100%, that is, technically, a “pension” will come.

Family Reviews
My daughter loves arriving everyday, always excited to see her teachers and friends. This facility goes way beyond a daycare. I could have never asked for sweeter, more caring people to help me raise my daughter, and I’m very blessed to have them as part of our family!
Jennifer Kennedy
My daughter has been at this center since she was nine months old. Our family absolutely loves this center. The staff is exceptional. I never have any worries about my daughter while she is there. This is a great piece of mind to have while working. I highly recommend this center!!!
Elizabeth Mills
The staff feel like our extended family and you can tell how much they really care about the kids. The level of care he receives has more than exceeded our idea of what daycare would be when we first started our search! We recommend The Sunshine House, they are simply the best around! :)
Ashley Roberts
The director is amazing, and the teachers go out of their way to make my kids have a great day, and come home having learned something! We are very picky about where and who we leave our children with. We feel 100% comfortable leaving them with the team at The Sunshine House.
T Rowe Piper
My oldest started here almost three years ago. She absolutely loves it and I do too. I now have my 8 month old baby here as well. Every single one of the teachers have been amazing and so have the directors.

As a retired teacher of 45 years, I know an excellent educational program when I see one. This program is one of the best I have seen. Our granddaughter has been attending the Sunshine House for the last 18 months. Our granddaughter has been teaching us hand movements with music and new songs that she sings to us. Our granddaughter loves attending school with all the new ideas and concepts that are being addressed with each and every child. Awesome job!!

Meet Our Director, Becca Glover
Hello! My name is Becca Glover, and I am the Center Director at The Sunshine House Early Learning Academy on Lawndale Drive, near The Fresh Market in Greensboro.
I have an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and have worked in the early education field for almost 30 years. I have worked as Assistant Teacher, Lead Teacher, Assistant Director and Director in Virginia, Kentucky and Illinois, and have been in North Carolina for more than 20 years.
I enjoy the fast pace of working with all different age groups of children, staff and families. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my two boys, who are very involved in school sports and activities, as well as spending time at the beach and the mountains.
Meet Our Assistant Director, Jane Seawell
Hello! My name is Jane Seawell, and I have 10 years of childcare experience ranging from the classroom to afterschool programs, and even as a personal nanny. I graduated from UNCG in 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Human Development and a minor in ASL. I have worked with children of all ages including newborns up to 16 years old.
I recently got engaged this past August and am looking forward to wedding planning! For now my fiancé and I are enjoying our lives together with our two cats and an abundance of plants!
I love working with children and have always had teaching and childcare in mind for my career. I feel lucky that I have been able to make that happen. Moving into this position will give me a new experience, and there are so many things to learn! I strive to maintain the standards that The Sunshine House has put forth while helping families, children, and teachers feel welcome, comfortable and happy.

The Wonders Of The World

Helping Babies Discover The Wonders Of The World Around Them
Developing The Senses With Affection And Attention
Our highly qualified instructors strive to provide a comforting, faith-based atmosphere for infants to closely match what they experience at home. Low ratios of 1 teacher to 5 babies ensures that each child receives lots of cuddles and individualized care.
Our teachers use a unique blend of The Creative Curriculum® and STEAM to guide your infants through discovering and understanding the world around them. Children are encouraged to learn through play and engaging, hands on experiences.
Being exposed to music, language and creativity on a regular basis helps your baby’s body and mind work together while improving their socio-emotional and intellectual skills. We’re always singing, dancing and narrating fun stories to keep little ones engaged.
Your little one will enjoy a complimentary breakfast, lunch and snack with us every day. We serve high-quality, nutritious infant formula and baby food as we gradually begin to incorporate solids into their diet to fuel their growth.
Our infant classrooms are designated shoeless zones and the in-house housekeeping staff regularly deep clean floors and carpets to ensure that your baby is in the cleanest possible environment as they crawl and explore. We also have an air purification system that helps eliminate dust mites and germs.
With over 30 years of experience in early childhood education, Donna Jensen was the recipient of the Child Care Success Academy’s Owner of the Year Award in 2017. Her life’s work is to positively influence the lives of the little ones under her care.
Check in on your baby’s development up to 10 times a day thanks to livestream videos in each classroom! Teachers will keep you informed by sharing helpful photos and updates through the Procare® Connect app.
Breathe a sigh of relief knowing that we take all of the necessary precautions to keep your babies out of harm’s way. Our school requires fingerprint access for entry, while playgrounds are separated by age group to prevent bumps and bruises.
Your baby will get to explore their surroundings and practice movement on an age-appropriate playground each day. Staying active will help them refine their large muscle groups, learn how to balance and develop their coordination!
Our center is the proud recipient of a BB rating, the highest possible score by South Carolina’s ABC Quality Care system. Our team regularly undergoes state professional training to guarantee that they are delivering the optimal education to your little ones.

Starts With Relationships
We believe families do best when they’re supported, trust us, and feel respected. These values lay a lasting foundation for delivering a joyful, quality early childhood education because learning starts with loving.
We live, love, and teach our core values, which are:

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19
“Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Don’t yell at one another or curse each other or ever be rude. Instead, be kind and merciful, and forgive others, just as God forgave you because of Christ.” Ephesians 4:31-42
“Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters. Outdo one another in showing honor.” Romans 12:10

My daughter went to this daycare for 15 months. I had my doubts through my time there but the owner told me to trust her. A week after giving birth to my second child, she told me we had a couple weeks to find a new daycare and would no longer take my daughter here. We have never missed payments and abided by all of her rules. Her reason was because she didn’t have room for my second child and thought we would leave after knowing this. She… more

Both of our sons have gone to Mrs. Farnaz’ daycare. Mrs. Farnaz is very consistent, organized, reliable, and clean. It has been a wonderful environment for our children to be safe, learn to behave well in a learning environment, and make friendships with other children. It’s so cute when our two year old comes home and shows me the yoga he learned or sings a song to me that I’ve never heard before. We love in home daycares for our baby’s first… more

Everything about Farnaz and her home daycare is outstanding. Healthy meals, tons of activities, lots of learning, over the top clean. She brings in preschool teachers every day to help educate. It felt like I was dropping my son off with family.

If I could put 100 stars for this daycare, I would. Everything about it exceeded our expectations. My daughter is now in second grade and she STILL talks about Ms Farnaz and says she misses her. Farnaz was and still is like family to us and I will always be grateful to the person who recommended her to us when we first moved here and new no one. The place is clean, the teachers are caring, the food is amazing, and the curriculum is wonderful…. more

“Good evening!
I decided to write a post, I really want to share with you! 😉
Many of my friends know that our son 👶 goes to ChDS “Krokha Land” and from my words they heard only positive feedback 😊.
We’ve been going for half a year. The head of the garden Kirsanova Olesya Evgenievna and the staff found an approach to our child👍🙏, despite the difficult adaptation!👍
Every day, training 📚 and developing 🎨 📖 classes are held, taking into account the individuality of each child!…”
