    Old Town Historic District in Downtown, Philadelphia, in the area near the Delaware River where William Penn and the Quakers first settled. It is better known to tourists as the site of Independence Hall and its coverage of Independence National Historic Park, Elfret’s Walk, Carpenter’s Hall, the Betsy Ross House and many other historic Philadelphia sites.

    The Old Town area occupies several blocks between Front Street and Sixth Street, bounded by Wine Street to the north and Walnut Street to the south. [3] In , the Philadelphia Almanac and Citizen’s Guide gives a broader set of boundaries for the Old Town area, defined as the area within Spring Garden Street, 4th Street, the Delaware River, and Walnut Street. The Old Town redevelopment area is bounded by Vine Street, the Delaware River, Lombard Street, and 7th Street. [4]

    B The Old Town Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. In 2003, it was added to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places. [2]

    Old Town is home to the oldest continuously inhabited street in America. Alley Elfreta. [5] Since 1702, more than 3,000 people have lived on this street, and today there are 32 houses on the street, built between 1728 and 1836. [6]

      Old Town is one of Philadelphia’s popular nightlife spots with lounges, dive bars, and quality restaurants, mostly within three blocks of 3- th and Market Street to Front and Chestnut Streets. The 3rd Street corridor, between Market Street and Vine Street, is home to galleries, boutiques, and other local businesses. Attractions Theaters operates three Ritz cinemas in the area that specialize in feature films.         Rittenhouse Square

        Rittenhouse Square is the name of the public park and surrounding area, also called Rittenhouse in Downtown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. The park is one of the five original open spaces. parks planned by William Penn and his surveyor Thomas Holm in the late 17th century.

        The area is among the highest income urban areas in the country. Together with Fitler Square, the Rittenhouse Quarter and the square make up the Rittenhouse-Fitler Historic District.

        Rittenhouse Square Park is maintained by The Friends of Rittenhouse Square, a non-profit organization. [2] The park, known as “The Square”, is considered one of the finest urban public spaces in the United States. [ citation needed ] The area cuts off 19th Street from Walnut Street and also a half block above Manning Street. Its boundaries are 18th Street to the east, Walnut Street to the north, Rittenhouse Square to the west (north–south boundary street), and Rittenhouse Square to the south (east–west boundary street), which is approximately two short blocks on each side.

        • Southwest Square, Rittenhouse Square was renamed in 1825 after David Rittenhouse, a descendant of Philadelphia’s first papermaker, German immigrant William Rittenhouse. [3] The original site of William Rittenhouse’s paper mill, known as Rittenhousetown, is located in rural Fairmount Park along Paper Mill’s Run. David Rittenhouse was a watchmaker and friend of the American Revolution, as well as a noted astronomer; a lunar crater is named after him.

          In the early nineteenth century, as the city grew steadily from the Delaware River to the Schuylkill River, it became apparent that Rittenhouse Square would become a highly desirable address. James Harper, a merchant and brickmaker who had recently retired from the U.S. Congress, was the first person to build on the square, purchasing much of the north front, building himself a stately mansion at 1811 Walnut Street (circa 1840). Having thus set the patrician residential tone, which subsequently determined the area, he divided the rest of the land into large building plots and sold them. Sold after the congressman’s death, the Harper House became home to the exclusive Rittenhouse Club, which added a real façade to c. 1901

          Rittenhouse Square was home to several wealthy families from 1876 to 1929, including Philadelphia Railroad President Alexander Cassatt; property owner William Weightman; department store founder John Wanamaker; Philadelphia Planning Commission director Edmund Bacon and his son actor Kevin Bacon and several others. Elegant architecture such as churches and clubs was built by John Notman and Frank Furness. In 1913, the layout of the square changed even more when the French architect, Paul Philippe Cret, remodeled parts of the square to resemble Paris and French gardens. These changes include classic porches and stone additions to railings, pools and fountains. After World War II, Rittenhouse added modern apartments, office buildings and condominiums to its architecture due to the real estate boom. The living area of ​​Rittenhouse has historically been occupied by Victorian mansions, but these are now being replaced by high-rise apartments to house the residents who live there. Shopping has become a popular pastime, with shops occupying brownstone buildings along the streets.           Journalist and author Jane Jacobs wrote about Paul Philippe Cret additions to the park that remain there today. Rittenhouse Square has changed the least. Empty lots have been converted into apartments and hotels, and original mansions have been replaced with flats such as Claridge and Savoy. Jacobs focused on separating two main ideas in Paul Crete’s redesign: complexity and centering. During 2013, for the 100th anniversary of the square’s redevelopment by architect Paul Kret, the Friends of Rittenhouse Square are working to raise record-breaking funds for a lighting and conservation initiative. New security cameras have reduced vandalism, park rangers have helped keep the square quiet, and damaged balustrades and stonework are undergoing extensive restoration.

          The Rittenhouse Square area is also home to many cultural institutions, including the Curtis Institute of Music, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, the Ethical Society, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, the Rosenbach Museum and Library, Plays and Players, the Philadelphia Wine School, and the Civil War and Underground Museum. railroad.           TO SEPTA Buses 9, 12, 21 and 42 run westbound on Walnut Street. 17 runs northbound on 20th Street and southbound on 19st and Rittenhouse Square west, and 2 north on 16th Street and south on 17th Street.

          The SEPTA Metro – Surface Trolley has a station at 19th and Market Streets, two blocks north of the square. Nut Locust Station on Metro Broad Street is four blocks to the east.

Preschoolers
spent approximately 45 minutes daily practicing reading skills.
In addition, there were music lessons, art classes, social
lessons. Activity centered around learning words,
comparisons, literature study and during the academic year (8 months)
the complexity of the material increased. There were three categories of classes:

  1. oriented
    on the activity of the teacher;

  2. developing;

  3. mixed.

Groups,
teacher-centered included activities such as
improving academic knowledge and skills (reading, writing,
count). Development-centered groups involve little
the number of children in groups, the presence of interest groups, the use of
materials such as the Peabody didactic material. AT
groups with mixed activities was supposed to be developing
activity of children, and activity centered on the teacher. AT
The program assumed a wide range of parental activities:
volunteering; reading stories in groups of children; organizing games with
children who have done their work; conducting scientific experiments;
work on projects; activities with children on interests; help in
preparation of lunches and breakfasts; participation in the tour.

Should
note the fact that before participating in the program, children underwent
medical examination, hearing and vision were tested with the participation of
speech therapist. In the mornings in full-day groups, children were given
free breakfast and lunch as part of the program offered
US Department of Agriculture.

teachers were also trained to participate in the program. total cost
per child per year under this program amounted to $ 4,350 per child, not
including the costs of the free meals program for children. For
application of the program, the risk status was taken into account:

  • low level of education
    from parents;

  • Availability
    four or more children in a family;

  • program
    conducted in schools where 60% of children lived in conditions of extreme
    poverty;

  • the presence of the unemployed
    parents;

  • incomplete family;

  • children
    were from national minorities.

Chicago
the program presented a 3-hour program (mornings and evenings) for
preschool children (preschool),
those who have reached three years old in separate rooms in groups of 4-5 children or
6-hour programs for preschoolers-kindergarteners (from 5 years old). small
the number of children in groups and the presence of several caregivers
promote quality pre-school education for children. General
the number of children attending the center was 130 – 210 people,
groups of studying children consisted of 4-5 people, which contributed to
individualization of the learning process and ultimately achieving
significant progress in the cognitive development of the child, the development of his
ability and mental readiness for school at the age of five.

Latham, New York – Wikipedia

Latham is Hamlet (and census-designated place) [1] in Albany County, New York, United States. It is located along US Route 9 in the borough of The Colony, a dense suburb just north of Albany. At the 2010 census, the population was 20,736. Latham was census-designated during the 1970, 1980, and 1990 U. S. censuses but ceased to be in the 2000 census, but became a CDP again in 2020.

The area has been known at various times in its history as Yearsley’s (c. 1829), Van Vranken’s (c. 1851), Town House Corners (c. 1860) and Latham’s Corners, named after hotel owner William G. Latham. The “corner” referred to is now the junction of Troy-Schenectady Road (NY Route 2) and Old Loudon Road.

Prior to European expansion into North America, Latham was occupied by the Mohicans. [4] Old Loudon Road was built in 1755 during the French and Indian War to carry troops and provisions from Albany to the Lake George and Ticonderoga areas. [ citation needed ] The Troy and Schenectady Turnpike was built in 1802 and crossed Old Loudon. The first inhabitant of this hamlet was Jonas Yearsley, 1785, who later built the first inn near this junction. The village was known first as Godsley’s Corners and years later as Van Wrankens’ Corners in the 1850s. The name changed to Latham when William Latham became the owner of the hotel. James, his son, continued to manage the hotel until his death on 14 August 1933 years.

Geography

The village itself is very narrow from east to west and relatively long from north to south, centered on the intersection of Troy Schenectady and Old Loudon Road. As a village, its boundaries are inexact, although they are marked by the New York State Department of Transportation at the west and east ends at New York Highway 2 and at the south end at US Route 9 (US 9). At the western end, the village begins at the entrance to the former Latham Circle Mall; at the south end, it begins near the Y intersection of US 9and Old Loudon Road; and at the eastern end, the boundary runs alongside Kiwanis Park. The northern border is the Crescent Moon Bridge crossing the Mohawk River at Month into Saratoga County. Blue Creek surrounds the area known as Pirate Island. The area commonly referred to as “Latham” extends far beyond the hamlet itself, as that name is also used for the post office 12110 Postcode. Many places often considered to be in the northern and northeastern parts of Latham are in the Cohoes postcode, while many in the eastern parts use the Watervliet postcode.

Latham’s terrain is primarily a rolling mixture of deciduous and evergreen trees, with some ponds, streams, and swamps, including several protected reservoirs and the New York State Wetlands. Streams east of Old Loudon Road and US 9 usually drain into the Hudson River; west of Old Loudon and US 9, the hamlet’s watercourses empty into the Mohawk River.
