Inclement Weather:  In the event of bad weather, school cancellations and late starts will be announced on major t.v. and radio stations in Kansas City, Topeka and Ottawa.  USD #365 School Reach also sends out automatic phone calls to families who have provided a working phone number.  See USD #365 Inclement Weather (late start policy) under the Newsletters link at the top.  Click on January 2020

Parent Portals:   On-line enrollment this year required parents to set up their parent portal, however, the parent portal has actually been available for several years.  It allows you, the Parent/Guardian to see your child’s grades, attendance, and meal account balance whenever it’s convenient for you!  All families will need to have their portal set up because it will be the gateway to enrollment from now on for preschool through grade 12.   Those who haven’t set it up will have opportunity later this year.  It’s easy and it’s convenient; the key is remembering your password.     Use the following link to get started:   http://www.usd365.org/

Student Meal Accounts:   Each student has a meal account for tracking breakfast and lunch activity.  It’s very important that your child’s meal account balance does not fall into the negative.  You can track the balance by logging into your parent portal and clicking on meal accounts.  You can pay on-line using e-funds or by sending a check or cash to the school office.  Automated phone calls begin once a negative balance is reached.  It will notify you of the low balance.   We cannot carry negative balances so it is important to keep your child’s account current.  Please call the office if you have special circumstances.

Bus Students:   (Preschool through 6th)  If your child will be absent from school, please call the school office and then YOU MUST CONTACT THE BUS BARN SO THEY DO NOT COME TO YOUR HOUSE UNNECCESSARILY.  The same applies at dismissal time.  If your child will not be riding the bus home please call the SCHOOL and THE BUS BARN  (785-448-5778).

Illness:  If your child has a fever, has vomited, or has had diarrhea, he/she needs to stay home until they have been SYMPTOM FREE for 24 hours.  This insures that the illness has actually cleared.

PTO/Site Council:   Our PTO (Parent-Teacher-Organization) is an important part of Greeley Elementary and is made up of parents who help us bring extra activities to our school that we wouldn’t otherwise have funding for.   Volunteers are always needed and you can do as much or as little as fits your schedule.  We are very lucky to have the extra funding available for field trips, celebrations, Pumpkin Day, Christmas Store and LOTS more, but it takes volunteers to make it happen.   Consider attending the next meeting and see what a difference our PTO makes.     Covid-19 policies are in effect and may change plans regarding the PTO.

Need to Speak With Your Child’s Teacher?   Preschool-6th grade:  Our teachers are always willing to meet with you when you have concerns or questions.  To speak with a teacher, please call the school office and leave a message.  Teachers will return phone calls after school or before school starts the following day.   If it is urgent, please let our office staff know.

Meat School : Meat School :

Grilling has become a real source of inspiration: a lot of food to grill, a little magic, a little patience – and the dish is ready. Warm sunny weather, good company, delicious wine or beer and pleasant music will not be superfluous. At times like these, life seems perfect! We are all familiar with the basics of grilling meat, but there are a few tricks to cooking meat, fish, and the like. tastier and more refined. By constantly expanding our knowledge and experience, we will be able to learn how to handle the grill and feel the cooking process.

          Grill equipment and accessories

The range of grilling equipment is very wide. On sale you can find electric and gas grills, as well as the most common charcoal grills: grills in the form of boxes and suitcases, grills with a dome or round barbecue grills, open grills and stationary grill ovens. Best results can be achieved when cooking over smoldering charcoal. By the way, on a grill with a closed lid, the meat will cook much faster, and the aroma of coal and the characteristic smack of smoke are felt much better. The height-adjustable grill rack allows you to cook more tender meats at low temperatures and firmer meats at high temperatures. Also, meat can be “burned” and baked much easier.

From the range of gas grills, volcanic lava grills should be preferred, since lava smolders, and as a result, intense flames do not occur. The stone absorbs the heat and evenly distributes it. The stones should be changed once a year, or from time to time (after every tenth use of the grill) they should be boiled, because during cooking, fat drips onto the stones, and a fire occurs on them. At the same time, it is much easier to clean the oven in this way, because the grease remains on the stones and does not stain the oven. In the case of gas grills, the disadvantage is the absence of the smell of wood smoke, and the advantages are convenience, speed and cleanliness. Many grills are equipped with a cooking space and work area where side dishes, sauces, etc. can be prepared.

Also on sale there are special grill pans on which you can fry meat. The result is beautifully fried meat with “streaks” that resembles grilled meat in appearance. The best result can be achieved with a cast-iron grill pan, on which the meat is cooked evenly and remains juicy. Before putting the meat in a cast-iron pan, it should be thoroughly heated and lightly greased with vegetable oil. Then you should lower the temperature and place the meat in the pan. It is better if the meat takes up approximately 2/3 of the surface of the pan. The grill pan is perfect for grilling fruits and vegetables.

The grill kit includes the actual grill, charcoal or wood, kindling material, matches, grill tongs, foil, and water to extinguish flames.

You will also need a poker to stir the charcoal, a wire brush to clean the grill grate, a grill brush, skewers for barbecue or side dishes. Metal skewers with a faceted cross section are considered the best; they have high thermal conductivity and do not allow pieces of meat to turn. If you use wooden skewers, be sure to pre-soak them in water. So that the meat does not stick to the skewer, grease it with vegetable oil or garlic.

Never use a fork to turn the meat, as it leaves holes in the meat, from which the meat juice flows out, which makes the meat dry. It is better to use grill tongs for turning meat and other foodstuffs. Other options for grilling include wire baskets or double wire racks for more tender meat or fish (to keep it in place), as well as fireproof mitts, aprons and paper towels. For large pieces of meat, a thermometer is useful to measure their temperature, and if necessary, a meat knife, cutting board, etc.

A few useful tips for grilling meat:

          – Wrap the grill pan in foil. This will keep the grill at a higher temperature and make it easier to clean the grill after use. In places where the vents of the brazier are located, it is also necessary to pierce holes in the foil.

          – The best flavor comes from lighting up the grill without the use of lighter fluid. To do this, use small wood chips, paper, vegetable oil, etc.

          – To determine the correct grilling charcoal temperature, hold your hand about 10 cm above the charcoal (i. e. above the grate) for 3-4 seconds. If during this time the hand becomes too hot and you can no longer hold it over the grill, then the temperature is considered optimal for frying. If you can hold your hand longer, then the temperature is too low; if less, it is too high.

          – Mentally, the grill can be divided in half: one part is hotter, and the other is less hot. Thus, you can successfully grill products with different degrees of roasting and carry out additional heat treatment.

          – If the temperature becomes too high, and the fat released from the meat, falling on the coal, catches fire, then the flame must be extinguished. To do this, use water or other edible non-flammable liquid.

          – The flame can be extinguished by covering the grill with a lid and wet alder shavings, which also contributes to the formation of additional smoke. You can also use beer or wine to extinguish the flame for an interesting taste and aroma.

          – By placing seasonings from herbs, spices (rosemary, thyme, basil, etc. ) or twigs/chips (cherry, raspberry, juniper, apple tree, etc.) on the coals, you can add interesting flavor nuances to dishes. To slow down the burning process and to produce smoke, you can pre-soak the wood chips / spices in water.

          – Sprinkle coffee or tea and dried spices on the charcoal to create a “taste haze” while grilling. Then the grill should be closed with a lid so that the “flavor smoke” can be absorbed into the food on the grill. An example of a more complicated way is to make a foil bowl, pour some water into it, then add spices and put it on the coals. In the case of a grill with a lid, the bowl can be placed on the grill grate. Along with the evaporation of the water, you will get extra moisture and a nice haze flavor. Garlic placed on charcoal gives a very pleasant aroma. You can also use a box filled with wet sawdust (stainless steel) that is placed on the grill next to the charcoal to add a smoky flavor to the food being cooked.

          – Before you start grilling meat or fish, let the food stand for one hour at room temperature so that when you start grilling, there is no rapid temperature change and browning is successful.

          What can be grilled?

The best meat for grilling is low-fat meat cut into small pieces. The most popular type of meat for grilling is pork neck chop (evenly pierced juicy meat), which is best for barbecue and grilling. In addition, it is good to grill pork inner and outer fillet, bacon and, of course, pork ribs, which are one of the most favorite dishes among Estonian people. On the grill, you can cook great dishes of lamb rack and lamb ribs. In addition, pork tails, legs, ears, as well as pork, beef, calf or lamb liver are suitable for these purposes.

          – Delicious kefir-marinated kebabs are very popular (the best-selling kebab in Estonia, awarded the title of “Best Estonian Meat Product 2005”). Kefir gives the meat a refined taste and at the same time makes it softer.

          – Mostly pork and broiler meat are used for barbecue or grilled meat, but dishes from turkey, beef, veal, lamb and game are no less tasty. Poultry meat is very popular among people who watch their figure. Grilled legs, chicken legs and wings, as well as broiler breast (fillet) are very tasty. In addition, the hearts of many cooks who have mastered the grill have won turkey legs and breast fillet.

          – Cooking sausages on the grill is very easy, and the process is a great pleasure, while raw (natural) barbecue sausages are especially popular.

          – The most popular types of fish for grilling are trout and salmon (mostly already in the form of fillets). As a result of grilling, flounder, perch, herring, pike, pike perch, whitefish, bream, etc. become very tasty. Among the more exotic seafood, such species as eel, lamprey, sea crayfish, king prawns, squid, tuna, etc. should be distinguished.

          – As for fruits and vegetables for grilling, sliced eggplant, zucchini, paprika and pineapple are perfect for this purpose. Apples, apricots, mangoes, oranges, pears, onions, garlic, tomatoes, carrots, rutabaga and potatoes are delicious when grilled whole wrapped in foil. Grilled bananas and corn on the cob are also very popular.

          – On the grill, you can fry hot sandwiches, pita bread, etc. To do this, they need to be laid out on a foil base. In addition, grilled champignons and other mushrooms are very tasty (NB! Most types of mushrooms must be scalded before cooking).

          Other tips

If the meat has not been previously marinated in an oil marinade, drizzle the meat on both sides with Vegetable Oil or Grill Oil before grilling to prevent the meat from drying out and sticking to the grill grate. Special grill oils give the meat an attractive appearance and exquisite taste. More fatty meat does not need to be additionally lubricated with oil.

In order to give the meat an attractive shine or to achieve new interesting nuances of taste, in the last minutes of grilling and / or serving, you can cover the meat with a special glazed . Most grill glazes contain a small amount of honey or sugar. Since sugar caramelizes when heated, it is possible to give the meat / sausage an attractive golden brown hue by applying the glaze. However, if glazed too early, the glaze can burn and spoil the flavor of the meat. Glaze can also be applied to meat after it has been grilled. To taste, the glaze should match the marinade with which the meat was seasoned.

Before you start grilling, it is recommended to blot the meat with a paper towel or let it settle for a while so that the marinade does not start dripping onto the coals. Too wet meat is difficult to fry until golden brown, and in conditions of evaporating moisture, it will be stewed. In this case, the surface of the meat should not be completely dry. In addition, large pieces of seasoning should be removed from the meat, as they can catch fire and give the meat a bitter taste.

Protruding bones can be covered with foil (for example, when cooking a square). The outer skin, skin and fatty edge should be cut in several places so that the meat does not warp (for example, when cooking outer fillets with skin on). At the same time in the meat it is not recommended to make extra cuts , otherwise the meat juice will flow out and the dish will become drier and tougher.

For best results, a piece of grilled meat should be browned at a higher temperature on both sides for about 1 minute. For meat to remain juicy, it must0005 “grab” on both sides. This way the meat juices will remain inside the piece. In order for the meat to “grab” on both sides, it is enough to turn the piece only once . Turning the meat too much will make it tougher and drier, and the nice grill pattern will not be imprinted on the piece.

When grilling meat, the chef must trust his gut instinct, not his watch. The right feel when grilling comes with experience.

When the meat is ready, let it “rise” in a covered dish for 5-10 minutes to stop the movement of meat juices. At the same time, don’t let it get too cold. Serve hot.

About the company — MaestroBBQ barbecue products of our own production

The history of cooking on fire, has a huge number of years and not one burnt burnt. People learned to cook on fire in ancient times. With a new round of evolution, new requirements were put forward for cooking devices and enjoying the tastes of the cooked.

With the creation of the grill, in 1952, and subsequent improvement, mankind acquired a device that made it possible to feel the fullness of flavors when cooking food on fire. Grills have appeared in our country for a long time. But those who imported to Russia and those who bought did not understand how to cook on the grill and returned to the usual barbecue or bricks.

With the advent of the 2000s, the situation has changed. Enthusiasts appeared, filming reviews of purchased grills, showing technical qualities, cooking methods, but there was no grilling culture that is developed in the USA, Texas and Canada, it was far from that.

“Yes, everyone can buy a grill, but not everyone can cook delicious food, feed relatives and friends” — not all sellers adhered to this concept in the grill market, which began to develop rapidly in Russia.

In 2018, two best friends, Ivan and Evgeny, who learned the intricacies of cooking on fire, decided to bring the grill culture to the masses. The idea was not only to sell the grill, but to engender the philosophy of grilling in a person. The concept was developed during the year. The premiere took place on October 18, 2018 – MaestroBBQ became a new representative in the grill culture market. The name of the company was invented by Ivan’s wife, Victoria. It consists of two words: “Maestro” – from Italian and Spanish maestro [maˈestro; maˈɛstro] meaning “master” or “teacher”, an honorific title of respect, and “BBQ” is an abbreviation for barbecue used in the United States and other English-speaking countries to identify a product associated with barbecue and meat.

The store on Pyatnitskoye Highway in the shopping mall “Korobka Park”, next to the shopping center “Otrada”, became the first store of friends.

The key to a company’s success is the need for advertising that moves processes forward. In order to keep up with competitors, they created a channel on Instagram (banned in the Russian Federation) and on YouTube video hosting. On January 19, 2019, the first video was released, in which the name “Maestro-bbq” was mentioned.

2019, tirelessly and timelessly, Evgeny and Ivan worked in the store, giving rise to the philosophy of grilling in customers. New videos began to appear on YouTube, revealing the values of cooking on fire, using a grill. “Instagram” (banned in the Russian Federation) was replenished with new posts of recipes and reviews of grills. At the end of the year, new people began to appear in the company who were burning with the topic of barbecue.

2020 has shown that a well-established business can survive a pandemic. As you remember, they sat in dachas, cottages and apartments. The popularity of grills grew, the MaestroBBQ brand began to gain momentum and climbed a step higher in terms of development. When ordering on the site, the buyer received full information, delivery by the owners of the company and an example of grilling. The first experience was the production of coal briquettes, which showed that the MaestroBBQ team can not only sell someone else’s, but also create their own.

New employees joined the MaestroBBQ team and decided to open a new store. At the beginning of 2021, a new Weber Store format store was opened on the territory of the Pushkino Park shopping center, which has become a popular place for buyers of Weber grills, Weber accessories and barbecue connoisseurs. During 2021, three more stores opened. Employees of the company are professionals who infect buyers with the philosophy of grilling, they know how and know the intricacies of cooking on fire, by contacting them, you will get answers to questions.

Due to the increased demand for accessories, the MaestroBBQ team decided to enter the market with their own products. We restarted the production of coal briquettes, made accessories for the grill, firewood and wood chips for smoking, a barbecue table and does not stop there.

Summing up, I will say the following

MaestroBBQ is a complex of services for people who are interested in grills and the world of barbecue:
