Now that your kids are back in school, you may be wondering how to encourage creativity and learning not only in the classroom, but also at home.

An at-home learning space is an incredible way to let your child play and explore the world around them. And while building one may seem like a daunting task, creating a comfortable and inspiring learning space for your children is actually easier than you may think.

There are a few key guidelines to follow in order to best create a learning space that inspires and nurtures your child. Below are a few tips to and inspiration from Pinterest to get you started.

Add lots of natural lighting

If possible, aim to pick a space in your home that has access to lots of natural light.

Many studies have proven that natural lighting in learning environments boosts performance, wellbeing, and creativity. The more natural light, the more conducive the environment is for learning.

If you can’t find a space with natural light indoors, don’t worry. Get creative and build a learning space outside.

Be intentional about color

Color can have a profound impact on the human mind. And while every child is different, certain colors can help inspire and motivate us.

In general, younger children thrive in bright, stimulating colors. For example, orange is a warm, inviting color that can help enhance productivity. Green, on the other hand, which is a cool color, can have a calming effect and aid in concentration.

Consider painting the walls or furniture one of these colors to help spark your children’s motivation and curiosity.

Have comfortable, sturdy seating

We all know how painful it can be to sit in an uncomfortable chair for hours on end. It’s no different with your kids.

Make sure the chairs in their learning space are comfortable and provide sufficient back support.

Additionally, include a few seating options – such as chairs, bean bags, and reading nooks – so your child has the freedom to move about as they play and explore.

A wide range of hands-on activities – think music, art, reading, writing, puzzles, and games – can help your kids apply their pre-existing knowledge to new experiences.

Encourage your kid to choose their own activities and self direct their learning. Doing so can help them discover what they’re interested in and build confidence, curiosity, and self-reliance.

Give options, options, and more options

It’s no secret that kids’ minds grow and evolve at a rapid pace.

In order to keep their growing minds stimulated and engaged, provide plenty of educational options for them and rotate them every few weeks. This way, they won’t get bored and will be excited for their next educational adventure.

Keep things organized

Kids learn best in organized, clean spaces so try to keep clutter at bay.

Opt for storage bins or boxes, which can easily be purchased at Target or The Container Store. Then, separate the storage units into categories. For example, dedicate one bin to art supplies and another to books.

An organized learning space makes it easier for kids to decide what they want to play with. Not to mention, it will teach them how to clean up and be organized.

Make it personalized

When a learning space is customized to the specific passions and interests of the child, they will feel as though they have ownership of the space and will be more likely to engage in and care for it.

Encourage them to help you decorate the space. Perhaps this means they can decorate the walls with some of their artwork, paint the desk their favorite color, or hang images of their favorite cartoon characters or subject matters.

Keep room for growth

Lastly, don’t be afraid to keep some spaces empty – don’t feel the need to fill every corner with toys and furniture.

The show was created in the style of the famous Hollywood films “Indiana Jones”, “The Mummy” and “Lara Croft”. A real adventure blockbuster will come to life in the circus arena. More than 80 curiosities were collected at the TITICAKA exhibition, which the creators of the project bought from collectors, found at auctions, begged from archaeologists and brought from distant travels. Many of them are listed in the Guinness Book of Records.

The exposition consists of several thematic areas. In the Big and Small section, you can see a tiny stock car, learn the history of the tallest and fattest man in history, take a look at the narrowest waist in the world. The Mysterious Beasts block introduces the audience to such amazing creatures as the Roswell alien, the Fijian mermaid, and the horned rabbit. “Made in Russia” is a colorful story about the achievements of our compatriots – a savvy flea, microminiatures on a pencil lead, the smallest origami crane and Singer’s house made of gingerbread and caramel. The Iconic Items of the Age zone features the world’s first Barbie doll, full cans of SPAM canned meat, the first Macintosh, and more.

“Bad company”: what parents need to know about it?

With the onset of adolescence, many parents are faced with the fact that they cannot understand why the behavior of their son or daughter has changed so dramatically. The door closed to the room, silence or rudeness in communication with elders, bad grades, walks until night and the smell of alcohol – unfortunately, many teenagers begin to grow up with this. “The child seems to be in bad company. How could this happen and what to do? ”, – with such questions, parents come to a meeting with a psychologist. “I am a parent” decided to dot the “i” and figure out why children go to the so-called “bad” company.

How can you tell if a child is in “bad company”?

First you need to determine which company should be considered bad. If your child’s new friends walk around in ripped jeans, play the guitar in the yard until night and shock others with tunnels in their ears, this does not mean at all that they are “bad”. In adolescence, many children want to stand out, and this should not be afraid. The more you forbid a teenager, and the worse you speak about his friends, the more likely that he will actually contact dangerous people.

It is worth sounding the alarm when a teenager refuses to introduce you to his friends and invite them home, does not spend the night at home, returns with the smell of alcohol or signs of beatings; if things disappear from the house, and absenteeism begins at school; if the child becomes withdrawn and stops telling you about how his day went; if he starts lying. Unfortunately, these are all warning signs that parents should suspect that the child is in “bad company.”

Reasons why teenagers get into “bad company”

For adolescence, it is very important to solve two problems: to learn to live independently (freed from adult guardianship) and at the same time to find one’s place in the team, the community of one’s peers. In what way and in what environment the child will start solving the tasks, depends on the initial data.

The parental home or family is considered to be the initial data in living conditions. This is the foundation on which certain actions are performed or a decision is made.

The decision that “this company suits me and guys who drink beer on a bench and swear” is the result of a crack in the foundation of one’s own family. It means that something went wrong and you need to dig right here.

What could have happened?

1. Acute lack of attention. Let’s imagine a situation. A child of younger preschool age runs at mom and dad and swings a stick, and then starts hitting his parents with a stick and screaming with all his might. This behavior of the child is a clear example of the lack of attention from the parents. The father and mother cannot understand why the child threatens them, and the baby understands that this is the only way he can attract parental attention. Let him be scolded, they will shout at him in response, but attention will be received. Now imagine that the child has grown. He will not swing a stick at his parents and will begin to look for other ways to attract attention to himself. And if his internal questions and conflicts are of no interest to his parents, because “he goes to a school where he has friends, and we earn money and get very tired at work,” then the mechanism of beating parents with a stick works, which in adolescence looks like deliberate disobedience . Throw dirty socks in the middle of the room, turn on loud music, skip school and hear from your parents: “Well, how much can I tell you …”, “Are you stupid and don’t understand the first time …” … Hearing this is not very flattering, but attention is received , albeit in that vein. “Bad company” is also a kind of stick with which a teenager tries to hit his parents.

2. Fight for your rights and point of view. Instructions, remarks and criticism that are poured out by parents with the best intentions to “educate” their child and “grow a good person out of him” do not work in adolescence. Each remark is perceived by a teenager as a restriction of his own rights, and he begins to feel worthlessness, the inability to have his own opinion and share it with his family. A similar situation also arises when a family council, which consists of a father and mother, gathers to solve the problems that have arisen, and the teenager is sent to the nursery so as not to interfere with communication with adults. Then the child is looking for another company where they will listen to him and where his opinion will be considered. Often such a company turns out to be the very “bad guys” who knock your child off the right path in life. Only the child does not understand this, it is important for him that in this company he is listened to and heard.

3. Resentment against a parent and desire for revenge. The meaning of bad behavior in this case can be expressed as follows: “You did me badly – let it be bad for you too!”. This can happen when parents divorce, when one of the parents scolds the other in front of the child, setting him against it. Or when the parents love the younger child more. Leaving in bad company may be a response to frequent remarks or unfair punishment that the parent carried out without understanding the situation. At the same time, the teenager realizes that he is doing badly, but he does it out of spite, not fully realizing that he is harming not his parents, but first of all himself.

4. A shift of trouble from one sphere of life to another. Let’s imagine that a teenager does not have a relationship with a girl in the class that he likes. The result may be a reluctance to go to school, poor academic performance, the development of complexes and a drop in self-esteem. External manifestations will be expressed in rude phrases: “Yes, I am stupid. Yes, I’m lazy. Yes, I’ll be bad.” And since in adolescence children are prone to maximalism, then being bad for them means fighting, smoking, swearing, perhaps even stealing … And looking for support from those who are just as bad.

It turns out that the reasons why a child gets into bad company lie on the surface – parents’ inattention, unwillingness to treat the child on an equal footing and respect his opinion, problems in relations with peers and internal complexes.

How to act to get a child out of bad company

First of all, you should clearly understand for yourself that no one dragged a child into bad company. This is his conscious choice, which, most likely, occurred under the influence of the reasons indicated above. Bad company is a team in which the opinion of the child is respected, he takes his place there and feels like an adult. No prohibitions and repressions that belittle the importance of such a rapidly growing personality will not help to make another conscious choice in order to get out of the already familiar social circle.

The task of parents is to turn the child “to face him”. Try to see the world through the eyes of a teenager. Let your child know that he is a full member of the family.

Follow his advice if you think it is fair, and if you do not agree, express your position on an equal footing with the teenager. If a teenager sees the possibility of an alternative, understands that in his family they hear and listen to him, then his own self-esteem will grow and the need to assert himself through unseemly acts will disappear by itself.

If your teenager still got involved with the bad guys and you can’t get him back into the family, then you need to act decisively. A teenager cannot be pulled out of a bad company “nowhere”. Help him find an alternative to backyard gatherings: a gym, a driving school, photography courses – all this will allow him to get into a new circle of friends, where the child will also feel like “their own”, but at the same time will be busy with work. Remember that if a child got into a bad company, then he could not find a good one.

If this does not help, do not be afraid to seek help from psychologists: if a teenager is seriously “sucked” by dangerous connections, if he develops addictions (alcohol, drugs, gambling – any), you cannot do without expert advice.

The birth of a child in a family is a great joy, but its growth and development are not without illness. Parents do not always want to seek medical help from a doctor. The reasons for this may be different: confidence that self-treatment will help, on the advice of grandmothers, forums; hope that the disease itself will recede; fear of hospitalization. Cough in a child

Difficulty breathing

Skin rash (rash) in a child

Pain

Any disease has both visible signs and hidden ones. Several diseases can manifest with one symptom. An elevated temperature in a child can be with a common cold, or maybe with meningitis (inflammation of the membranes of the brain). Leukemia very often hides behind the symptoms of SARS. Mononucleosis is a contagious and very dangerous disease, at an early stage it is easy to confuse the disease with a sore throat due to similar symptoms.

Wrong treatment can develop a new disease and aggravate the old one!

Children’s doctors, with experience, will deal with complex childhood diseases, using laboratory and instrumental diagnostics.

The complete lack of treatment of childhood diseases is dangerous for the development of irreversible complications, disability, and a threat to the life of the child.

Parents play an important role in the early diagnosis of children’s diseases. From how closely the parents monitor the health of their child, how correctly they can describe his condition to the doctor, depends in which direction the preliminary examination will be carried out.

• do not deny your child medical care – bring him to the doctor;
• be attentive to the health of children – observe and correctly describe all symptoms;
• do not be afraid to ask, ask the doctor several times if you do not understand something in his recommendations;

The Kids West is only one of the many children’s charities in Australia. Its mission is to raise money for the childrens hospital fund, delivering much-needed equipment to the hospitals of western Sydney. Over the course of 30+ years, Kids West has raised in excess of $5.6m and is one of the best Australian charities to support dedicated countless hours to assisting a large number of organisations in improving the health and wellbeing of children throughout Western Sydney.

Below are some of the other fantastic childrens charities Australia has in place. As with any children’s charity, it’s best to do your research. Unfortunately, there are organisations out there that take advantage of well-meaning souls and misappropriate funds. Some organisations, as charitable as their intentions may be, cost a lot to run so your donations may not actually get to where you’re intending them to go.

They oversee over 58,000 registered charities in Australia. We highly recommend checking out their charity register to see if the group you’re looking to support is approved to fundraise. Check to see what the goals of the charity are

Make sure they’re transparent – they should be able to show you where the money goes. Reviewing their annual report should help you. It should be on their website.

Are Donations Tax Deductible?

Donations of $2 or more to the Kids West, Western Sydney Paediatric Fund Raising Inc. (Kids West) are tax-deductible. The Australian Tax Office recognises these donations as having Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. The amount you can claim as a deduction on your tax return depends on your circumstances. Kids West cannot calculate the tax deduction you may be entitled to for your donation.

Similar to when an individual donates, the contribution must be $2 or more in value for a corporate donation to be eligible. The charity must also be registered as a “Deductible Gift Recipient organisation” with the ATO.

Tax time is an excellent opportunity for your company to practice corporate social responsibility while increasing the business’ tax return.

Every donation you make to charity is only tax deductible if the organisation is an ATO-endorsed deductible gift recipient (DGR). Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) is a DGR organisation with a registered charity tick from the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). This means that ACRF complies with the transparency and accountability standards of the ACNC Charity Register.

To claim a tax deduction for a gift or donation, it must also meet the following conditions:

– It must be made to a DGR organisation.
– It must indeed be a gift or donation – that is, you voluntarily transfer money or property without receiving or expecting to receive any material benefit or advantage in return. A material benefit is an item with a monetary value, such as a raffle ticket, fundraising chocolate or fundraising dinner ticket.
– The gift or donation must be of money or property. This can include financial assets such as shares.
– The gift or donation must comply with any relevant gift conditions. For some DGRs, the income tax law adds different conditions affecting the types of deductible contributions they can receive.

Are overseas charity donations Tax Deductible?

All Australian charities that operate overseas must be registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC) which have set standards that govern how a registered charity must manage its activities and resources outside Australia. In addition to the ATOs, Overseas Aid Gift Deduction Scheme (OAGDS) enables Australian organisations to issue tax-deductible receipts for donations to their overseas aid activities. These activities must be to support aid activities in countries that are declared as ‘developing’ by the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Donations to overseas charities not registered in Australia are not tax-deductible.

Are donations to charity auctions Tax Deductible?

Donations to charity auctions are tax-deductible if:

• There is a transfer of money or property and the organisation is a DGR.
• The transfer is made voluntarily.

Marshmallow experiment | Blog 4brain

In the late 60s and early 70s of the last century, Stanford University professor Walter Mischel conducted a series of experiments in which he proved that children with this character trait are more likely to achieve success in life. What is this feature and why the experience was called “marshmallow”, we will describe below.

Background

During an experiment on the island of Trinidad, Michel noticed that the children of West Indian blacks and locals react differently to an offer to get a candy for 1¢ now and a candy for 10¢ a week later. Aboriginal children more often chose the second option.

How the “marshmallow experiment” was carried out

To further investigate this fact, Walter Mischel conducted an experiment that was later called the “marshmallow experiment”. As subjects, he took 16 boys and 16 girls aged 3.5 to 5.5 years. Each of the eight researchers had 4 children – 2 boys and 2 girls.

The experimenter brought the child into the room, seated him in a chair, and placed one marshmallow on the table in front of him. After that, he offered a deal: “Listen, I’m going out for 15 minutes now. While I’m gone, you can eat this marshmallow, or you can not eat it and get a second one as a reward. You decide.”

Results of the “marshmallow experiment”

As the researchers expected, most of the children did not wait and ate the marshmallow immediately. Only 1/3 of the subjects received a reward in the form of a double portion.

Walter Mischel published a study in 1972. However, the most interesting began after that. He followed the lives of the subjects until 2011. It turned out that children who postponed pleasure received higher scores on the SAT exam (analogous to the Russian Unified State Examination), had less bad habits and depression, and also received a higher salary.

Refutation of the “marshmallow experiment”

Do not be upset if in childhood you did not know how to restrain yourself and “ate marshmallows” right away. Scientists from the University of the City of New York doubted the results of Michel’s experiment, since he had a very small sample – only 32 people.

To refute the marshmallow experiment, they took 900 children from different walks of life and performed the same manipulations. It has been proven that the ability to postpone pleasure until later has little to no effect on success in life. Children from rich families who waited for the arrival of the experimenter and children from poor families who did not wait for the reward had the same chance of becoming successful.

The difference in results is due to the life situation. For children from low-income families, parents often promise to buy toys or sweets, but do not keep their promises due to lack of money. Therefore, such children are not inclined to trust other people and tend to enjoy immediately, because then it may not be.

It is easier for children from families with a high level of income to restrain themselves and wait for the arrival of the experimenter, because they know that they will always have something tasty at home. For example, ice cream or the same marshmallow.

Despite the study of New York scientists, it is difficult to disagree with the fact that the ability to endure helps in life. If you cannot endure difficulties, then quickly give up and achieve nothing.
