Soundtrack of laughter

Because laughter is music to a parent’s ears.

“Children are now angry and snickering”: what high school students think about their peers, teachers and the future

Are there any topics that are too difficult to discuss with children? Judging by the course of social studies, no. Here, children go through economics, politics, and sociology. But few people talk about it with schoolchildren. And our blogger, social studies teacher Viktor Bormotov, decided to talk. And he asked the children to write an essay.

Have you ever wondered what “society” is? How do you see him? What do you want from him now and in the future? I think rarely. When I asked my students from 7th, 8th and 9thth classes to write (or draw) an essay, answering similar questions, they were, to put it mildly, surprised. “Write whatever I want?” they asked. And then they whispered: “This is some kind of trick, something is not right here.” But they were interested. First of all, because no one has ever, by and large, been interested in their opinion.

Creative freedom is still a great thing! To be honest, I expected to read a lot of pearls or some nonsense. I will not hide, it was also. But to a lesser extent. Basically, I saw meaningful social science studies. I suggest you take a look at them too.

About problems

(schoolchildren’s point of view)
  • “Adolescents or even children from 11 to 16 are the same. As if made under a carbon copy. Smoking, drinking, having sex, or doing nothing at all. They seem to be afraid to stand out or “to be different from everyone else”, they mow down what is fashionable. I sincerely feel sorry for those children who were recently born. After all, most likely, they will live in a destroyed economy and among the most repulsed people. Our society is degrading”;
  • “Everyone relaxed and gave up on studying”;
  • “A large number of people, or rather children, are now drinking and smoking”;
  • “Our society is in complete shit. Children shoot short videos and hope to earn money by doing this, but, in reality, they simply degrade. Toddlers (9-13 years old) smoke more than adults”;
  • “Children in our time are angry and snickering. They can poison, beat children they don’t like. They don’t study, they don’t do anything, they just suffer from bullshit and mess around”;
  • “Society is getting dumber. Looking at my peers and comparing them with people who were born 20 years earlier, I am truly horrified. A lot of guys kill themselves and their brains with cigarettes, alcohol, phones – sometimes my peers sit in them for 16 hours, doing nothing useful!

About the good

  • “In today’s society, among the advantages are mobility, increased education due to the availability of information, gradual improvement in living standards, development of technology. But I think that these are not too significant advantages. People stopped appreciating communication, buried themselves in phones, stopped respecting their elders”;
  • “Modern society seems to be diverse. The people around me are bright, ambitious and purposeful. Everyone is looking for a way to replenish their stock of knowledge, develop skills. In principle, there are now many opportunities that society has begun to use: exhibitions, theaters, libraries, sports clubs, lectures.

About dreams

  • “I want prices to decrease, for example, for candy. And to make rides cheaper! And then you go once, and then you save for a month “;
  • “Most parents restrict their children. It seems to me that as long as there are representatives of society who have grown up on other principles and ideals, modern society cannot fully open up”;
  • “I want everyone to treat each other a little kinder in the future and that people don’t throw animals out into the street”;
  • “Men in our society walk as they please. Some of them are also wearing women’s clothes. Many condemn them, but in fact it is their business – how they look. I would like everyone to accept the choice of others in the future.”

About teachers (shock content!)

“Teachers do not cope with children, they become aggressive and angry. And there are just soviet teachers who yell at children and force them to walk on a string.”

About the education reform

  • “In the future, I would like the lessons to be held as lectures, only without credits. And it would be great if there was a free visit”;
  • “I would simplify the school curriculum. And I would take one more day off – on Thursday or Wednesday”;
  • “I am sitting here in society, being forced to write some kind of essay. All of this needs to be canceled!”

Forecasts for the future (with notes of socialism)

  • “Modern society is lazy and carefree people. They are traumatized, they are infuriated by work. Our economy is developing in favor of the rulers. The new generation will try to correct the mistakes of their parents and make new ones. Perhaps an apocalypse will happen, or maybe a miracle, and we will become more tolerant and stop oppressing people”;
  • “I cannot say that our society is very good now. There are a lot of things that society often, or rather, constantly, is in disagreement with. But nevertheless, society itself creates and distributes them. The same patriarchy and bullying! If I had the opportunity, I would correct society so that it is more focused on helping others. I want people to accept others for who they are”;
  • “In the future, everything will be different. For example, people will help each other, treat the problems of others with understanding. All wars will end, and states will change”;
  • “If you give me power, I will abolish taxes and the police. Society will be fair. People will be paid according to their ability.”

Conclusions

  • Children want to be talked to more, more interested in their opinion. This is very important to them. So far, such practices at school are clearly not enough.
  • I am struck by a rather clear and precise understanding of the social processes taking place around, immersion in them. Our children are not as infantile as we think they are.
  • Of course, there is a lot of pessimism and cynicism, which cannot but cause anxiety among us adults.
  • A clear desire for social justice and collectivism, harmony in society.

There is an obvious need for full-fledged studies of the views of the younger generation regarding the future of society. So far, as I see it, the entire scientific and educational system is aimed at exploring everything and deciding for them.

The main heirs of Berlusconi’s business empire are his older children

Berlusconi left his children a multi-billion dollar fortune

900 99 July 6, 2023

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who died on June 12 at the age of 86, bequeathed most of his fortune to his eldest children Marina and Pier Silvio. They increased their stake in Fininvest, which was their father’s main asset, to 53%. Three more children from the second marriage got 47%. In total, Forbes estimates Berlusconi’s fortune at 6.4 billion euros.

Immediately after the death of the former prime minister and one of Italy’s richest men, the media began to speculate about how his legacy would be divided.

It was assumed that Berlusconi could divide everything equally between the five children from two marriages, but he decided otherwise and left a large share to the two eldest children from his first wife, Carla Elvira Dell’Oglio. Marina and Pier Silvio Berlusconi, who have been actively involved in the management of the family business since the early 1990s and already owned shares in Fininvest, have now received a controlling stake.

Three children from their second marriage also received an impressive fortune – Barbara, Eleanor and Luigi became owners of 47% of Fininvest shares.

  • Silvio Berlusconi: actor, businessman, politician and lover. What is one of the brightest leaders of our time remembered for
  • A case of vodka from Putin and a heartfelt letter from Berlusconi. Scandal erupted in Italy over Russia and Ukraine

“Thank you, with great love, your dad,” Berlusconi’s will, which was signed 19 more times, is quoted by ANSA. January 2022, after the first hospitalization this year at the San Raffaele Clinic in Milan.

Berlusconi did not forget about his girlfriend Marta Fashina, with whom he spent his last years, and his faithful secretary and adviser Marcello Del Utri.

“For the love I felt for them and the love they gave me,” he wrote in his will and ordered that Fascine be given 100 million euros, and Del Utri – 30 million. Berlusconi’s brother Paolo inherited 100 million euros.

The family business

The value of the holding company Fininvest SpA, in which Silvio Berlusconi himself controlled 61.21%, is estimated at 4.55 billion euros.

It includes many other companies, including the MediaForEurope media group (formerly Mediaset Group) led by Pier Silvio, the Mondadori publishing house led by Marina Berlusconi, and the Mediolanum bank.

Marina Berlusconi has also served as President of Fininvest since 2005, and in June the shareholders confirmed her authority.

MediaForEurope’s shares after the news of the death of Silvio Berlusconi jumped in price on the Milan stock exchange on a wave of rumors about a possible sale or merger of the group, but the company’s management quickly put an end to them, saying that no major changes were planned.

“We in the family never talked about selling Mediaset,” said Pier Silvio Berlusconi

Extensive inheritance

If everything is more or less clear with the main family asset, then the question of dividing the rest of the property remains open. For example, how to equally divide the numerous luxurious villas and the works of art that are stored in them?

This old villa from the beginning of the 18th century in Arcore near Milan, with a 73-hectare estate, a stable, an indoor swimming pool, a heliport and a football field, is worthy of fame thanks to bunga bunga parties.

Enis makes the process of finding a nanny so easy…Right after I had my baby I was so overwhelmed, and she took the time to listen to the things I wanted in a caregiver…She is very well-connected within the nanny community and set up a few interviews, and found the perfect person for me! I consider our nanny a member of my family, and never worry when I’m away from home.

A. Echols

“My wife and I cannot recommend Enis highly enough….We tried all of the “well known” placement services in Houston, and none of them came close to the service we received here. Enis found us the PERFECT nanny for our family–experienced, caring, responsible, energetic. Our nanny has been with us for five years now and she is part of our family–our two girls adore her and so do we… Enis listens, cares, and delivers. She is a true professional.

IN HOUSTON – Our Texas – Russian Newspaper in Houston, Dallas, San-Antonio, Austin, Texas

WASTE DELIVERY DUE TO TRAIN DECLINE IN OHIO

Politicians protested in Houston last week when news broke that that hazardous waste from East Palestine, Ohio, is sent to their city for disposal.

Trucks transported toxic wastewater over 1,300 miles from eastern Ohio to be buried at the Texas Molecular plant in Dear Park, on the outskirts of Greater Houston.

Officials issued statements that the public should have been warned, prompting the Environmental Protection Agency to order a Feb. rails and caught fire.

On February 27, waste shipments resumed, but only to facilities in Ohio.

Despite the outrage, the railroad operator did nothing unusual by sending their waste across the country to Houston. Houston, with a population of 7.2 million, is home to a large industrial sector on the Gulf of Mexico, making it the nation’s energy and petrochemical capital, as well as one of the best places to pump hazardous waste deep underground.

“It’s no wonder the sewage from the Ohio train derailment ends up here,” said Sema Hernandez, a 37-year-old mother of four and environmentalist from Houston’s Pasadena neighborhood, which neighbors Dear Park. “No one cares what happens in our neighborhood as long as it doesn’t affect richer communities.”

Not all railroad accident waste from Ohio arrived in Houston. According to news reports, some of the toxic sewage, containing unburned residues of spilled chemicals mixed with firefighting foam, was pumped into Ohio, and some was pumped into Michigan. But the largest volume was on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

Texas and Louisiana contain the majority of hazardous waste disposal wells, according to the US Environmental Agency. Only eight other states have such wells. Most are privately owned and do not accept third party waste, but a few commercial wells, such as the Dear Park well, accept third party waste.

ABOUT HISD’S IMPENDING ACQUISITION

From the Texas Capitol to the Houston City Council, politicians say the Texas Education Agency will take over Houston’s Independent School District within days.

Mayor Sylvester Turner says the looming takeover could happen as early as next week.

While the takeover is largely a bureaucratic move at the highest levels of the district, the move could affect students and staff if schools are closed or converted to charter schools, critics say.

There are over 196,000 students in the district.

“It worries me a lot,” says Turner. How do you go in and take over the largest school district in the state of Texas? How do you do it and do it successfully?”

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) initially tried to take over in 2019 due to poor test scores at several district schools. The school district opposed the move and sued the agency in 2020.

The case went all the way to the Texas Supreme Court, and in January of this year, judges sided with TEA, clearing the way for state-appointed managers to replace elected school board members.

State-appointed managers will have tremendous power. They can control the budget, school closures, partnerships with charter networks, curriculum and library book policies, and hire or fire a superintendent, among other important decisions.

Members of the Community of Houston for Community Education (CVPE) have long been protesting the takeover.

In response to Turner’s comment, a TEA spokesman did not confirm whether the takeover would take place next week. “TEA continues to review the Supreme Court’s decision to determine the next steps that will best support students, teachers, parents, and the Houston Independent School District school community,” TEA said in a statement.

DISCOVERY GREEN RECEIVED A $2 MILLION GIFT

Houston’s iconic city park that has transformed downtown has received a special gift to ensure the green spaces are preserved for future generations.

The Kinder Foundation donated $2 million to the Discovery Green Conservancy to create a fund for the 12-acre park.

Before Discovery Green was conceived in 2008, the site contained two underutilized surface car parks. The park has served as a catalyst for change in the region, reimagining public park spaces and generating more than $1.8 billion in development funds within a two-block radius.

The park has also rethought building types leading to the creation of so-called 20-minute blocks that provide walking distance.

Today, millions of visitors from near and far come to Discovery Green to enjoy the green oasis, art installations, events, restaurants and more. The George R. Brown Convention Center, Hilton Americas, Marriot Marquis, and the Avenida Houston entertainment district contribute to the area’s success.

Access to green space in downtown Houston has expanded over the years, proving that leaders, developers and the community understand how important they are to our personal health and the health of our economy.

THE BAD SIDE OF HOUSTON SPRING

Spring has just arrived, and Houston allergy sufferers are sneezing everywhere.

Baylor College of Medicine doctors say pollen counts in Bayou remain high due to warmer winters.

Tree pollen saturation has been classified as “extremely severe” by the Houston Department of Health for the past week.

And the concentration of weed pollen, field grasses and mold spores was at an average level.

Living in Houston means living with allergies all year round. Herbs pollinate in spring, trees and weeds in summer and fall, and mountain cedar in winter, according to a Baylor College of Medicine spokesman. So as long as the weather remains unseasonably warm, no matter the time of year, there will be allergens in the air.

To relieve symptoms, doctors recommend over-the-counter allergy medications or nasal sprays.

Also try using a nasal washer (neti pot) and consider wearing a mask outdoors – a surgical grade mask can block some of the larger pollen.

CHICKEN IN SPRING

Soaring egg prices, coupled with the desire for greater food security, are driving more Houstonians to raise their own laying hens in their yards.

Interest in backyard chickens in Houston skyrocketed at the start of the pandemic when people panicked when they saw empty food shelves. Chicken owner Brett Chisholm said that in 2020, the Houston Area Backyard Chickens Facebook group he oversees has grown rapidly from under 2,000 to over 3,000 people.

Now there are about 8000 members in the group. According to Chisholm, about half of the people in the group have chickens, and the other half are about to get them.

Owning chickens can have several advantages – excellent egg quality, a direct food source, plus they are pretty cute pets.

There are also disadvantages: raising chickens can be associated with the cost of eggs. Having chickens will not be cost effective if you don’t plan on doing so for a long time, as the cost of coops, feed, fencing, and general supplies can go up.

Hens start laying eggs at 18 to 22 weeks of age, so this is not a quick return on investment.

Note: Houston allows residents to have up to 30 chickens (as long as they are kept clean and at least 100 feet from nearby residences, schools, hospitals, or churches), but many homeowners associations do not allow chickens.

OUR PARENTS ARE LUCKY WITH NANNY PRICES

Houston parents, rejoice. Babysitting rates in the city have gone down, while in the rest of the country they have gone up.

In 2022, babysitting rates for single child care fell by 3% in Houston, according to a survey conducted by carer search platform UrbanSitter. Even more – by 17% – for two children.

Last year, the average babysitting rate on UrbanSitter in Houston was $17.84 per hour for one child and $18.77 for two. In 2021, it was $18.39for one child and $22.73 for two.

Nationally, single babysitting rates rose 9.7% to $22.68 an hour, slightly less than the 11% increase seen in 2021 but still outpacing inflation for the second year in a row.

Many teachers, nurses and early childhood professionals have taken to babysitting during the pandemic and raised babysitting prices due to their experience.

But many people in Houston are now gone, which is probably why the average rate has dropped, says UrbanSitter founder and CEO Lynn Perkins. Perkins also notes that there are many nannies and carers in the Houston area, which means lower rates.

HOUSTON’S ENERGY SYMBOL WILL BE A HOUSE

A vacant downtown skyscraper, a reminder that Houston is the energy capital of the world, may soon revive the trend of living in you acres in downtown. The tower, formerly known as the headquarters of Humble Oil and now the Exxon building (800 Bell St.), was sold to an out-of-state developer who
plans to convert it into a residential building. The 1.2 million square foot building was sold to a New York
investment group associated with CMI Developers. It is noteworthy that the group has experience in the historical reconstruction and redevelopment of apartments. The age of the Exxon building (it was completed in 1962) and its high 90,331 local prominence may provide property developers with historic preservation tax credits. As residents of the city remember, Exxon’s former headquarters at 800 Bell lasted for about eight years when the company moved into a new modern complex. Culturally, the building was of great importance as
Houston’s towering energy status symbol. At the time of opening, the building was considered the tallest west of the Mississippi River. Its famous Oil Club on the top floor was the site of countless 90,331 deals and later special events. Looking ahead, the building provides numerous opportunities for
adaptive reuse. Once open to neighbors who used the Exxon cafeteria, the ground floors of the building could be the perfect multifunctional space for restaurants and even shops. It is to be hoped that the building’s signature fins, designed to protect against the hot Houston sun, will remain a design feature.

    for foreigners, children of SVO participants and other applicants

    Ekaterina Aleksandrova

    Admissions expert

    Entering a university is not easy, but you still need to understand the rules.

    Every year the procedure for submitting documents and the list of entrance examinations changes, new benefits appear. Therefore, it is important to follow the legislation during a particular admissions campaign.

    I’ll answer some readers’ tough questions about college admissions and how the law works in their situation.

    Is there a preferential right to enter a university for someone who served?

    Natalia

    is interested in studying after service

    Imagine that a person, after receiving a diploma of secondary vocational education in 2022, served on conscription. Will a certificate from the military registration and enlistment office about this give a preferential right to enrollment when entering a university for correspondence?

    Pre-emptive right to enrollment is valid when ranking competitive lists. The one who has it will take a position one line above the competitor. This works in the following situations:

    1. two applicants have the same amount of competitive points – both for subjects and for individual achievements;
    2. two applicants have the same amount of competitive scores, and their scores in subjects are the same.

    Several categories of citizens have a preferential right, including orphans, applicants with disabilities, children of fallen soldiers or police officers

    .

    The right can be used for admission to all forms of education: full-time, full-time-part-time and part-time. For most categories of applicants, it applies to all universities and specialties. However, there are limitations in your case. Those who served in the army enter civilian universities on a general basis.

    Map of military universities of the Ministry of Defense

    Applicants who have served on conscription have a preferential right to enter only if two conditions are met:

    1. They enter a military university.
    2. The commander gave recommendations for admission to a military university in the budget department.

    However, some universities may consider military service as an individual achievement and give additional points for it.

    This recommendation is filled in by the commander of the military unit

    Will there be benefits when entering a paid college if the father is a member of the SVO?

    Elena Mikhailovna

    applicant’s mother

    Daughter wants to go to school after ninth grade. Can she be accepted with preferential payment due to the fact that her father is a member of the SVO and he has state awards?

    Given that we are talking about the ninth grade, I assume that your daughter is going to receive a secondary vocational education. So first I will talk about colleges, and then about universities – perhaps this information will be useful to you in the future.

    College admission. College applicants do not have special enrollment rights, including benefits for children of SVO participants. All applicants are ranked by the average score of the certificate. Other achievements are taken into account only other things being equal.

    Some colleges make paid education cheaper for certain categories of citizens. But the educational institution decides for itself who to give discounts and what. You can find information about tuition prices and benefits in the regulation on payment for educational services. It is usually posted on the website in the “Information about the educational organization” → “Paid educational services” section.

    Admission to the university. Children of SVO participants have the right to enter a university on a budget within a separate quota. We wrote more about how to take advantage of the discount and apply to the university in another article in Tinkoff Magazine.

    Will an applicant be admitted to a military school if the parent has a criminal record?

    Oleg

    worries about his son

    My son enters a military school, and I have a criminal record. Will it interfere with the reception?

    Admission of applicants to military universities is regulated by the admission procedure approved by the order of the Ministry of Defense of April 7, 2015 No. 185, and the federal law on military duty and military service. None of these documents says that a criminal record of parents or other relatives limits the applicant’s right to study.

    Military universities accept applicants of several categories:

    1. At the age of 16 to 22, who have not completed military service.
    2. Under 24 who have completed military service and those who are still doing military service on conscription.
    3. Under 27 years of age, serving under a contract in the rank below an officer – for training in full military special training programs.

    ref. 45, 47 order, approved. by order of the Ministry of Defense dated April 7, 2015 No. 185

    Candidates for cadets, as well as those entering military service under a contract, must speak Russian and meet the medical and professional-psychological requirements for military service.

    For admission to military universities, you must present a diploma of secondary vocational education or a certificate of secondary education. And during the admission campaign – to pass an exam for physical fitness and undergo a medical examination and psychological selection.

    para. 1, 4 tbsp. 33 of the law “On military duty and military service”

    There is not a single normative act that would state that an applicant whose parent had a criminal record will not be considered within the framework of the competition. There is also no obligation to present a certificate of non-conviction – one’s own or one’s relatives.

    Will a parent’s criminal record prevent them from entering a departmental university and working in the civil service?

    Elvir Khurmatullin

    concerned

    The child’s father has several convictions and drug addiction in the past. He does not take part in the life of his daughter.

    The girl wants to enter and work in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Can her father’s past affect her life? Should he terminate his parental rights?

    Whether to deprive the father of a child of parental rights is a complex issue that depends on the situation. Tinkoff Magazine has already talked in detail about the legal grounds for this procedure and its consequences.

    But depriving a father of parental rights just for the sake of his daughter entering a university is definitely not worth it. There are no regulations that would prohibit an applicant from participating in the competition because of the fact that the parent had a criminal record or had a drug addiction. There will be no restrictions when applying for a job.

    The only thing that matters is that the applicant himself did not have offenses or addictions.

    Admission to the universities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs regulates the admission procedure approved by the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of March 12, 2015 No. 321, and the law on service in the internal affairs bodies.

    In addition to passing the exam, the applicant goes through several stages of selection:

    1. Checking the level of physical fitness.
    2. Medical examination.
    3. Professional psychological selection.
    4. Psychophysiological examinations.
    5. Testing for drug use or alcohol abuse.

    ref. 39, 40 order, approved. by order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs dated March 12, 2015 No. 321

    There are no questionnaires on the state of relatives in this list. This means that the girl has the right to apply to the university of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

    Employment in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. After graduation, admission may be refused if the candidate himself:

    1. suspect or accused in a criminal case;
    2. repeatedly during the year was punished for administrative offenses;
    3. was subjected to criminal prosecution;
    4. does not agree to comply with restrictions and prohibitions, perform duties and bear responsibility, which are established by federal laws.

    Part 5 17 of the law on service in the internal affairs bodies

    There is no mention of relatives in the law.

    If a girl wants to enter universities of other departments, for example, the Federal Penitentiary Service or the Federal Security Service, she will have to study the admission procedure and the laws governing their activities. However, they also do not have requirements for relatives – only for candidates.

    What exams should a foreigner take when entering a university?

    Serdar Yalkabov

    does not want to take the USE

    I live in Turkmenistan and want to enter MSTU GA. Do I need to go to Russia and take the exam or is there another way? Did you have to serve in the army to enter a university?

    It will no longer be possible to pass the exam in 2023: applications are closed on February 1. But you can take exams at the university: both foreign citizens and Russian citizens who have not taken the Unified State Examination have this right.

    Foreign citizen has the right to enter a Russian university based on the results of the Unified State Examination or pass entrance exams at the university. To do this, you need to apply for admission to the university and attach a copy of the passport of another state. If there are no entries in Russian, you will have to translate the documents and notarize the translation. After that, you can register for entrance examinations.

    paragraph 11 of the order, approved. by order of the Ministry of Education and Rosobrnadzor dated November 1, 2018 No. 190/1512

    Russian citizens who graduated from school abroad and did not pass the Unified State Examination, can also sign up for exams at the university. If the exam has already been written, you cannot take the exam at the university.

    The university can conduct entrance examinations in person or remotely. Preparation materials are usually available on the website.

    If you intend to enter the Moscow University of Civil Aviation, you will have to pass exams in Russian, specialized mathematics, physics or computer science.

    Please note that applicants for some specialties are required to submit medical certificates. For example, applicants for the specialty of a pilot need to pass a medical-flight expert commission.

    I will answer your second question: you do not need to serve in the army to apply. In Russian universities, there are no requirements for military service for applicants from civilian universities. MSTU GA, where you are going, was established by the Federal Air Transport Agency and is not among the military.

    Even if you were applying to a military university, applicants under the age of 22 have the right to participate in the competition without completing the service.

    Can a foreign student enter a Russian university on a budget?

    Anya Rudenko

    wants to get a second higher education

    I am a citizen of Kyrgyzstan. I studied on the budget, received a diploma of a specialist. I want to change my profession – medicine attracts me. In my own country, you cannot study for free a second time, so I am considering the possibility of getting a second higher education in Russia.

    Am I entitled to enter a Russian university on a budget as a citizen of Kyrgyzstan? How about a Russian citizen?

    Since you have citizenship of Kyrgyzstan, you have the right to enter Russian universities on a budget. You only need to pass the Unified State Examination or pass entrance tests at each university where you will apply.

    For admission, you need to submit a document of secondary education, such as a high school diploma or a diploma of secondary vocational education if you graduated from college.

We extinguished “Iskra”… | Neva time

“Iskra” was the oldest children’s newspaper in the Union, they appeared in 1924, and how seriously they took readers of “frivolous age” is evidenced by at least a circle of the newspaper’s authors: Korney Chukovsky, Samuil Marshak, Arkady Gaidar, Vitaly Bianki, Lev Kassil, Olga Berggolts… By the way, Marshak argued that every word heard in childhood cuts deep into the child’s soul, and every word read cuts even deeper. So, the employees of Iskra, paying tribute to the inevitable and obligatory words from the lexicon of Soviet ideology, were able to write absolutely “not dried up”, invent topics and actions that were unexpected at that time. And they were paid for it… Well, of course, they were always paid a penny, only there was another payment, so valuable for a children’s journalist – the attention of those for whom they write. If you could see the huge piles of letters that came to the editor every day! And the editors answered every letter!
The newspaper had its own legendary heroes – Captain Morekhodov, head of puzzles and charades, Nina-Oktyabrina, who addressed the smallest. There was a club for young poets, a club “Stopwatch”, where those who wanted to write about sports came, and a school for children’s correspondents, for those who wanted to write about everything in the world. I came to this school as a second grader. Journalists spared no time explaining to us what their profession is, sorted out our scribble notes, and gave assignments. And what a holiday it was to see your own, albeit tiny, scribble on a newspaper page!
It’s hard to imagine now, but a huge dry-cargo ship was named after the “Lenin sparks”, for the construction of which the Leningrad pioneers collected scrap metal. And I, with my friend from the school of deathcorers Ilyushka, performed at the farewell of this dry cargo ship on the first voyage. And now Ilya is a correspondent for Nevsky Vremya in Kaliningrad. And our editor-in-chief, Boris Rovda, is a former Leninist. And how many of those who experienced the first throes of creativity in the editorial office of “LI” on the Fontanka, work throughout the country in newspapers, on radio and TV.
Iskra died in 1991. But their team began to publish Five Corners – first a newspaper, and then a magazine. The format and layout changed, the language of notes with the disappearance of pioneers and the appearance of teenagers also began to change, but the principle remained the same – to make a newspaper about children together with children. Young writers with scribbled leaves, then with diskettes, were still drawn to the editorial office that had changed its address. They were still taught reportering and analytics, and most importantly, they were taught not to be “cold-nosed”, indifferent to the environment. And although there were significantly fewer readers, there was a subscription to the newspaper (for a symbolic amount), and it was sold at retail, although distributors often refused to take it.
Because the crisis with the children’s press (as well as with children’s films, as well as with quality books for children) began long before the current crisis. Only a few publishers realized that newspapers and magazines for juniors (with the possible exception of the Shrek comics) by definition cannot be considered as business projects that bring any profit. But they are priceless and should, like monuments, be protected by the state. Because if the children’s press does not have readers, then the adult press will not have readers either. And also because, in addition to purely entertaining publications, there should be those in which the child will find sensible answers to questions that concern him – what is justice, how to be able to make friends, what is true love … yes, a million of them, these questions that you cannot ask teachers, and parents don’t have time to answer them…
“Five corners” helped both owners and sponsors as much as they could. It was hard, but the publication was done with imagination. But – the change of the owner and what followed next is known, and the decision: the paper version is closed. It seems that the version on the Internet will remain, but what will happen next is not very clear …
I understand everything. It has become hard for everyone, both “adult” newspapers and magazines too …
But only if the last Iskra goes out – does anyone really need this?

Andrey Petrov, chief editor of NV

Orthopedics www.ortoped-ekb.ru —

The foot is primarily an organ of support and movement. Compared to quadrupeds, the human foot experiences loads 4 times the weight of the body. During the day, a person takes 8,000-10,000 steps, that is, in his entire life he goes around the globe 4 times. As a result, the legs are subjected to forces equivalent to 700 tons every day, which is about 100 times the weight of a launching spacecraft.
The foot neutralizes this load. But this is true only in relation to a healthy, trained foot. Thanks to the arched structure of the foot and its spring function, 70% of the increasing load is extinguished, protecting the upper “floors” of the human body.
When does the foot need help? Pregnancy, high-heeled shoes, increased stress.
Increased loads:
* Performing heavy physical work, standing work.
* Sports activities.
* Age-related changes.
* Period of rapid growth of adolescents.
* Weight gain.
* After long-term illnesses and injuries of the lower extremities.
When the foot is unable to neutralize the load, the increased loads become excessive.
Repeatedly repeated overloads exceed the strength limits of the tendon-ligamentous structures of the body.
The arches of the foot are flattened, excessive pronation occurs.
Deteriorating damping and repulsion performance.
Excessive internal rotation of the entire lower limb appears.
Result:
* pain in legs: in heels, arch or metatarsus;
* cramps in the muscles of the legs;
* swelling of the legs;
* pain in the lower back and other parts of the spinal column;
* pain when walking;
* formation of dry calluses (corns) on the soles of the forefoot;
* shuffling gait
Increased risk of complications:
* Microtrauma of the musculo-ligamentous apparatus of the entire lower limb, pelvis and lower back.
* Formation of flat feet or, if present, pronounced progression.
* Deformities of the toes.
* Plantar fasciitis – overload and inflammation of the plantar fascia (and, as a result, heel spurs).

Find Student Teacher Ratios

There are a number of reasons why teacher student ratios are important. First, smaller class sizes allow for more individualized attention. This is especially beneficial for students who may struggle in a larger classroom setting. Secondly, smaller class sizes also allow for more opportunities for students to participate and interact with their peers and teachers. This can lead to a more engaging and meaningful learning experience. Finally, teacher student ratios can impact the overall climate and culture of a school. A positive and supportive school environment is more likely to foster academic success and social-emotional well-being.

Estonia extradited to the US a Russian suspected of procurement for special services

Estonia has extradited Russian Vadim Konoshchenko to the USA. In the United States, he is suspected of smuggling dual-use technology and American ammunition in circumvention of sanctions

Estonia has extradited Russian Vadim Konoshchenko to the United States, whom US authorities accuse of smuggling dual-use technologies and American-made ammunition in circumvention of sanctions, the US Department of Justice reports.

According to the US Department of Justice, Konoshchenko is accused of having links to a “global procurement network and money laundering on behalf of the Russian government.” U.S. Eastern District Attorney Breon Peace said the Russian was “an important participant in a supply chain for US-made classified electronics and munitions to support Russia’s war effort and develop weapons to circumvent U.S. export controls, economic sanctions and other criminal laws.”

According to the US Department of Justice, Konoshchenok is associated with the Sernia Engineering and Sertal companies: the department believes that they are buying electronics and test equipment for the armed forces under the guidance of Russian intelligence services. Some of the developments can be used in the development of nuclear and hypersonic weapons, the Ministry of Justice noted. Sernia Engineering and Sertal are under US sanctions.

The US Department of Justice names Konoshchenko as an alleged FSB officer. The indictment states that Sernia received a license to carry out top secret and secret purchases from the FSB, and in emails Konoschenok called himself a colonel of the service and attached a photograph in uniform. Konoshchenko’s contacts include those that mention the FSB and mailboxes with the service domain, according to the Ministry of Justice. Estonia in the supply chain was a popular transit point from which Konoschenok shipped American goods to Russia, the indictment says.

Konoshchenok was among five Russians charged by US authorities with helping to evade sanctions against Russian intelligence services in December 2022. He was detained in Estonia on December 6 while trying to cross the border with about 35 different types of semiconductors and electronics, according to the Ministry of Justice. In the USA, Konoshchenko faces up to 30 years in prison.

Pensioners turned their children over to the police for playing on the sports ground

Conflicts between fathers and children are an eternal topic. One of our readers said that in the Nizhnyaya Eltsovka microdistrict this topic took an unexpected turn: two pensioner women survived teenagers from the sports ground. Now, instead of playing sports, the guys sit in the yard, buried in their phones.

– For quite a long time, many residents of the house at 7, Lesosechnaya Street could observe a rather rare, unfortunately, pastime of teenagers these days: the guys gathered every evening in the courtyard of the house on an equipped playground and went in for sports. Unexpected, right? They didn’t sit on phones, didn’t drink beer, didn’t fight, but went in for sports and talked to each other very friendly and culturally. They pulled themselves up on the horizontal bars, spun on them, threw the ball into the basketball hoop, – said Dina.

A young woman lives on the 6th floor, the windows face the inside of the house. She has a small child, which means that the family is also sensitive to loud noises. But, as Dina says, these guys have never caused any inconvenience: neither loud screams, nor music, nor the sound of a ball … Teenagers did not interfere with their games and parents walking with small children on this site.

However, the two women were disturbed by the sound of the ball coming from the SPORTS ground from 19.00 to 21.30, the quiet conversations of the children and softly playing music. They called the police last weekend.

The whole yard could watch the picture of two pensioners yelling at teenagers and writing statements. Bottom line: one teenager was taken to the police. The guys rebelled and made the music louder. And this is the first time that the whole court really heard her. But at 21.30 there was silence, – says a young mother.

A day later, the pensioners again called the police and complained to the housing department. In the morning, without the consent of other owners of apartments in this house, basketball hoops were removed from the sports ground and the wooden coverings were removed from the benches.

And now, two days later, we could observe a very bleak picture of these same guys sitting on the veranda and just talking. They no longer went in for sports, some of them talked, and some buried themselves in the phones … And, you know, somehow very sad, sad and joyless, and it became unbearably quiet in the yard … And it’s very sad to watch how two pensioners hunted these guys down and doomed them to an unsportsmanlike summer, – states Dina. – The “Comfortable Urban Environment” project is being implemented in our yard, and none of these women shouted from the window that they were being disturbed by the equipment working in the local area, although for the second year we were not allowed to enjoy the summer peace and silence. They do not yell at those responsible for this “celebration of life”, they do not write statements.

        A Beginner’s Guide: New Braunfels Schools 101

        When searching for a new home, prospective buyers consider many factors. How many square feet are in the basement? Is there a pool in the backyard? Is this neighborhood close to where I work?

        However, one particular question seems to take the cake these days: What school district are we in?

        A recent Realtor.com survey revealed that over 90% of buyers consider school districts very important when searching for their new home…and for good reason! From academics to extracurricular activities, your child’s educational experience truly shapes the way they relate to the world around them. And even if you don’t have kids, school districts matter: properties that fall in favorable school districts are generally worth more and able to sell faster. Accordingly, New Braunfels has set high standards for the next generation, providing excellent private and public schools.

        Just what are the school districts in the New Braunfels area? New Braunfels ISD and Comal ISD service the main parts of New Braunfels, with some supplementation from Navarro ISD on the east edge of the town.  How would you determine which district is right for you? Obviously, a school’s reputation is built on more than just academics or neighborhood stereotypes. A public school system is just that: a system with many parts working together to form a holistic educational experience. There are plenty of factors that make up this system…the quality and variety of extracurricular activities, school diversity, and teachers, among others.

        Image courtesy of MySanAntonio.com

        Niche.com took this mentality into account when they released statistical and ranked information regarding school systems across the nation. Niche’s ranking system employs a “healthy balance between statistical rigor and practical relevance,” including parent/student surveys, government and public data, school records, etc. Niche essentially considers the overall experience of the students and parents involved in a particular school district. Each school receives an overall grade based on the following breakdown:

        • Academics (50%)
        • Health & Safety (10%)
        • Student Culture & Diversity (10%)
        • Survey Responses (10%)
        • Teachers (10%)
        • Resources & Facilities (5%)
        • Extracurriculars/Activities Guide (2. 5%)
        • Sports & Fitness (2.5%)

        Police say Kelly had a tense relationship with his ex-wife and her family

        Texas officials have officially confirmed that 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelly was the gunman in the Sutherland Springs Baptist church on Sunday .

        The shooting killed at least 26 people and injured more than 20. Sutherland Springs is a small town of only a few hundred people, 50 kilometers southeast of San Antonio.

        According to the police, the events in the church were preceded by a conflict in the attacker’s family, but it is too early to say how much this quarrel influenced his plans.

        A semi-automatic rifle and two pistols were found in his truck. According to local authorities, Kelly had no legal right to own a gun.

        Kelly was able to be rendered harmless thanks to the quick response of local residents who witnessed the attack. One of them opened fire on the shooter, wounding him and forcing him to flee.

        Before he died, Kelly called his father to say goodbye. The police believe that after that the perpetrator took his own life.

        The FBI continues to work at the scene. Earlier, the FBI said that although only one shooter is known, they are considering other leads.

        Kelly, 26, lived in New Braunfels, Texas.

        In 2010-2014, Kelly served in the air force at the lowest rank – unskilled airman.

        According to US media, citing Pentagon spokesman Ann Stefanek, Kelly joined the Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico in 2010, but in 2012 he was court-martialed for beating his wife and child and sentenced to 12 months in prison.

        In 2014, Kelly was demoted and discharged from the army.

        Federal law prohibits the sale of guns to dishonorably discharged members of the armed forces, but a police source told CNN that Kelly bought the rifle in San Antonio as early as 2016, giving a false address and lying when asked about his criminal record.

        Texas Gov. Greg Abbott confirmed that Kelly was ineligible to own a firearm after his license was denied.

        Kelly had a license to work as an unarmed security guard. This job was described by the police as “something like a security guard during concerts.”

        He was not listed in the national database of criminals, so nothing prevented him from obtaining such a license.

        In an interview with CBS, Abbott said: “It’s clear that this man had violent tendencies, he had problems ahead of him, he was like a powder keg, ready to explode at any moment.” The governor also believes that the place of attack was not chosen by chance.

        According to local newspapers, Kelly was an atheist, hostile to believers and the church. As his former classmates say of him, Kelly was “an obnoxious weirdo” who made no secret of his anti-religious views.

        “He constantly said that people who believe in God are stupid, and tried to preach his atheistic views,” local publications quote the words of Nina Roza Nava, who studied with him at school.

        According to Wilson County Sheriff Joe Takitta, Kelly’s relatives and his ex-wife used to visit the church from time to time, but they were not there on the day of the attack.

        The attacker was armed with a semi-automatic rifle. Wilson County Police Commissioner Albert Games Jr. confirmed that the gunman left the scene in a car and was later found dead in it.

        Kelly called his father after he was wounded by a passing gunman. Kelly told his father that he was unlikely to survive.

        Texas Department of Public Safety Regional Director Freeman Martin told reporters that Kelly shot himself after being hit by a Good Samaritan and the ensuing chase.

        According to Martin, the reason for the attack was a family conflict, not religious beliefs or racial hatred. Recently, he had a tense relationship with relatives, primarily with his mother-in-law. In recent days, he has sent threatening text messages to her.

        What do we know about the victims?

        According to the police, among the dead are people aged 5 to 72 years. 23 people were found dead inside the church, while two people were killed outside. Another victim died in the hospital.

        Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tuckitt told the BBC that five or six of the victims were members of the same family, with US media speculating that there could be eight.

        The names of the victims have not yet been officially released, but authorities on Monday confirmed the identity of the attacker.

        The pastor of the church where the shooting took place, Frank Pomeroy, said his own 14-year-old daughter, Annabelle, was killed in the attack. The pastor himself and his wife were not in the city at that time.

        How did the attack happen?

        Kelly, dressed all in black, wearing a body armor and carrying an assault rifle, entered a church building in Sutherland Springs at 11:30 local time and opened fire on the crowd.

        Sunday service was going on in the church. According to local residents, about 50 parishioners usually come to the service in this church.

        How did you manage to neutralize the attacker?

        Two local residents who happened to be near the scene tried to stop the shooter, wounding him, and then rushed after him.

        One of them, Johnny Langendorff, told the local TV station KSAT that he, along with another man, drove up to an intersection where gunfire was heard and saw two men shooting at each other – the second man was a local resident passing by.

        “He ran up to my car in great excitement, with a gun in his hands, and briefly told me what had happened. He jumped into the car and I knew I had to act,” recalls Langendorff.

        According to him, the two of them pursued the attacker at a speed of about 150 km/h until he lost control of the car.

        “We held him at gunpoint until the police arrived,” said Johnny Langendorff.

        According to the US media, the “Good Samaritan” who got into a gunfight with his attacker and saved many lives was Steven Wilford, who lives nearby.

        A 55-year-old plumber with no special military training grabbed his own rifle and ran towards the sounds of gunfire after his daughter told him what was going on.

        Running to the church, Wilford came face to face with his attacker. Wilford managed to wound Kelly by hitting him in the side through a gap in his body armor, after which he was forced to flee.

        Wilford and Langendorf rushed after him without waiting for the police to arrive.

        Langendorff’s Facebook page is now full of thanks and words of support.

        “Fortunately, someone else also had a weapon, which allowed them to return fire. Otherwise, everything could have ended much, much worse,” the president said.

        “In our thoughts and prayers, all Texans are with the people of Sutherland Springs, where this tragic news came from,” said Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

        WHAT TO DO IN TEXAS ON THE LONG WEEKEND – Our Texas0001

        Memorial Day – unofficially opens the summer season. This is the first long weekend, when it is already warm enough, but the sun is not hot enough yet that you don’t want to go outside at all. No, this is just such a golden time when you can travel with the whole family with your children and everyone can have fun. If you do not take extra days of vacation, but limit yourself to only 3-4 days off and holidays, then you can turn them into a mini-vacation by driving a car no further than our beautiful state.

        Here are the most popular destinations to visit this coming weekend.

        City of San Antonio

        This is a large modern city, where the breath of Texas history is felt like nowhere else. You will enjoy a walk along the river flowing in the very center, on both banks of which there are hotels, restaurants and cafes. You can also ride on the river tram. On Memorial Day, the traditional Artisan Show will be held here, where many crafts and works of art will be presented, music will be played. In addition, the famous Sea World Park, the Six Flags Fiesta Texas amusement park, the Splashtown San Antonio water park, and a wonderful zoo are located in San Antonio. Both children and adults will be interested to get acquainted with the history of the state of Texas by visiting the Alamo fortress, located in the center, as well as several preserved old Spanish missions located near the city. This is just a short list of the sights of the city and the surrounding area, not to mention the rich and varied cuisine in local restaurants, where you will be greeted with traditional southern hospitality.

        New Braunfels

        Located near San Antonio, the town was founded by German colonists. It is famous for three miles of the Komal River with cool water because of the underground springs that feed it. The crowns of large trees hang over the river, creating a shadow, so on a hot day it is so nice to raft down the river on inflatable rubber circles. In the town itself is the oldest water park Schlitterbahn, created in the Bavarian style, there are many antique shops and German restaurants where they play the accordion in the evenings and brew excellent beer.

        Hikers will love to visit the Landa Park with its picturesque hiking trails and huge oak trees, under which it is pleasant to relax. Two rivers will delight lovers of swimming and fishing.

        The largest caves in Texas are also located here, where it is so cool on a hot day, and literally next to the entrance to the caves there is an interesting Safari Park, where many animals live on a large territory. You can feed the giraffe and emu without leaving the car. They and other animals will look into your open window, delighting all passengers.

        South Padre Island

        This island is one of the most popular vacation spots in Texas. Wide white sand beaches, clean clear water of the Gulf of Mexico, the absence of any industry nearby attracts tourists almost all year round. This place has long been chosen by sea turtles and many birds. It is here that there is a scientific center where sick and injured turtles are nursed, it is open to visitors. A small nature reserve near this center is also popular, where you can watch a variety of birds. In the town itself, an old lighthouse has been preserved 19century.

        Galveston Island

        Situated like a 50 mile barrier off the Gulf of Mexico coast, the island offers plenty to do for the whole family. And although the beaches on the island are made of very fine dark sand, which remains in suspension in the coastal water, which is why the water is rarely transparent, it is they that attract many people here. After all, a large number of marine fauna and birds suggests that the water here is quite clean, and many fish, standing right on the beach or from the piers designated for this.

        You can come and spend half a day here (preferably in the morning or after 3 pm), or you can stay in a hotel, motel, rent a house or apartment to feel like a real spa visitor. The shallow water and unusually warm water allows children to splash in it as much as they like, without requiring additional entertainment. Nevertheless, there are many of them in Galveston: the historic district, interesting museums, the Schlitterbahn water park, an amusement pier, an aquarium and a rainforest in the Moody Gardens pyramids. In addition, there are many restaurants serving seafood freshly caught in the Gulf of Mexico.

        Austin

        Austin is often referred to as the “Music Capital of the World” because of the many clubs that host live music. Provided that you have someone to leave the children with for the evening (or such a problem does not exist at all yet), it is very pleasant to plunge into the nightly musical life of the city here. The advantageous location of Austin – hills and a large river, conditionally divided into lakes – will not let you get bored even on a hot day. After hiking or cycling along Ladybird Lake or kayaking for hire, it’s great to take a dip in the Barton Springs Pool, located in the beautiful Zilker Park. The city has several large swimming pools open to the public. But this one, with an area of 3 acres, is famous for the fact that the water in it, due to underground springs, does not rise above 70 degrees.

        You can go fishing in the nearby Inks Lake State Park or take a boat ride or even a boat ride on Lake Travis. You yourself become the captain of such a ship and can enter the numerous coastal bays to stop for a swim, or you can swim directly from the ship to the great pleasure of your whole family.

        If you want to hide in the shade at the peak of the heat, then a visit to the Capitol and the famous University of Texas will be both interesting and educational.

        Wimberley

        A picturesque town with shady oak trees and windswept roads, small in size but very interesting for tourists. It’s a good place to swim in the early summer in Blue Hole Regional Park lake, surrounded by the shade of trees, or take a trip along the Devil’s Backbone route, passing along Texas Farm Roads 12, 165, 2325, and 32, along Highway 281, forming a scenic loop connecting the towns of Wimberley and Blanco. The landscapes around are reminiscent of western films about the wild west.

        In addition, you can taste wines at a local winery, visit various art galleries, in a word, enjoy the quiet measured life of a small town, which is very lively in the Memorial rodeo held here.

        Fredericksburg

        Founded, like New Braunfels, by immigrants from Germany, the city is full of charm and originality. Picturesque historical buildings, breweries, wineries are worth a trip here at any time of the year. But on Memorial Day weekend, the famous boiled crayfish festival is held here.

        Nature lovers should definitely climb Enchanted Rock, located nearby in the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, to see the amazing pink granite block looming over the forest. If you are going on such a hike, be sure to do it early in the morning or at the very end of the day and stock up on drinking water.

        The city of Fredericksburg is home to the National World War II Museum, where a special event will be held on Memorial Day in memory of those who died defending their country.

        Kerrville

        The small, picturesque town is famous for its museum of Western art and a large folklore festival that takes place precisely on the long Memorial Day weekend. Kerrville Folk Festival is one of the oldest folk music festivals in North America. It is accompanied not only by performances, but also by various master classes. At the same time, the picturesque surrounding nature allows you to camp nearby, go cycling or go kayaking.

        San Marcos

        If you want to get away from the big city this holiday weekend for a change of scenery, San Marcos might be one of your options. It is the largest of the cities located between Austin and San Antonio.
