Child Care Subsidy

Child care subsidy is available through the federal Child Care and Development Block Grant. It helps parents pay for licensed child care while they are at work, in training or getting an education. It also helps prevent neglect or abuse that can occur when children are left alone or with unqualified caregivers.

Subsidized child care benefits ensure high-quality care for children while their parents or guardians are at work, in training, or receiving an education. Subsidized child care benefits may also be provided as part of a protective service plan to prevent abuse, neglect or exploitation. The subsidy is paid directly to the child care provider on the family’s behalf. The family may have a copayment for the child care based on their income; and the number of family members and the number of family members needing services.

Edmond and Lily Safra Children’s Hospital was opened in 2002 at Sheba Medical Center. The hospital is developing ways to create special medical services. Examples include the establishment of a pediatric intensive care unit, a hemoto-oncology unit that performs bone marrow transplants, advanced cancer treatments, outpatient care services for children with cancer, and a hospice that is the only one of its kind in Israel.

The hospital operates a children’s rehabilitation center, and recently opened a center for the treatment of children’s cardiac diseases. The Department of Emergency Medicine treats the full range of illnesses and conditions acquired by children and infants as a result of illness or injury.

Gastroenterology Clinic serves as a national center for diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of children with gastrointestinal diseases, liver diseases, nutritional disorders, growth and development disorders, malabsorption, food allergies, etc.

The Endocrinology Clinic specializes in the in-depth study and diagnosis of various hormonal disorders in children, with particular attention to the treatment of obesity. The Department of Immunology specializes in the treatment of congenital diseases and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. London Gates: why the children’s education center advises business giants

London Gates Education Center opened more than 10 years ago and has become one of the first places where children can study according to the British educational program in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Riga. During its existence, London Gates launched an elementary school, business consulting and its own psychological service under its own brand. Yulia Desyatnikova, founder of London Gates, and Pyotr Kopylov, COO, talk about the peculiarities of running an educational business on the international market, readiness for change, and why it is impossible to develop children without developing oneself.

How do you explain to yourself why you successfully passed through all the crises of the last decade? Does London Gates have a particular business model?

Julia: I’ll be honest: at first there was no business model. When my first educational project, the Russian Gymnasium in London, opened 19 years ago, there was only the setting of my husband, a mathematician: “If there are five students in a class, this is work at zero, if less than five, this is work at a loss.” From the very beginning, it was much more important for me to understand how to educate the new generation.

I only believe in man. People can build business processes and build competency maps, but first you have to find and select these people.

To succeed, you must select those who will study, those who will pay for this education, and those who will teach. The paramount task in my school development model is to choose like-minded people. For example, Peter came to get a job as a physics teacher and at some point received an offer from me to take on a completely different job. And it was Peter who brought his systematic view and talks about the business model to London Gates.

And now, after 19 years of the existence of the Russian Gymnasium, I listen to the voice of “inner Petya” and expect the people who work there to work on business processes, and risk management, and project management.

The Russian Gymnasium in London is not only my first successful business. Thanks to the experience of working with Edexcel in England, we were one of the first in Moscow to receive their accreditation 10 years ago. And when we decided to open new centers in Riga and St. Petersburg, we had no problems – the credit of trust in us is quite high.

You talked about the selection of teachers. What are your selection criteria?

Julia: I would like to see next to me people who are not indifferent, interested, with ambitions, people who are not ready to walk on skulls. Those who know how to play by the rules and know how to respect others. I want people to flexibly and easily perceive the new, know how to learn, know how to change. Over the past five or six years, I myself have changed a lot. The same applies to parents: if I say that a child does not want to participate in a creative competition, and I suggest thinking about how to motivate him, and in response I get “does not want and do not need to”, this is a dead end.

American psychiatrist Irvin Yalom said: it is impossible to educate a talented therapist, one must be found. You can teach a person to be effective, but you can not bring up in him an interest in others and in the world if he does not have it.

Happiness is to see talented people next to you. Yes, we are following the easy path: it is easy to provide a talented person with the necessary knowledge, but to make a person talented is only in the jurisdiction of higher powers.

— In Russia, respect for each other is in short supply…

Julia: I don’t think this is specific to Russia. All over the world, the mass market is not about respect. Western civilization also has a lot of questions. But is it possible to cultivate respect for others in a person? Can. This quality is brought up from a very early age, which is why London Gates is a story about the development of not only formal intelligence, but also emotional and social intelligence. Much depends on whom and how we listen, whether we are ready to compromise, in what form we express our desires.

In our school, respect for people is a system-forming factor.

Peter: In general, we spent a lot of effort to translate the “informal” and “human” into the system. Often these things are opposed, but we are sure that one cannot exist without the other. People are equally annoyed by both a soulless bureaucracy and a very sincere person who forgets about elementary things. Therefore, we formulated this idea: “A good system is a support for a good person.” This principle pervades everything we do, from teacher-child communication to tutor-parent communication. There is a system, there is a set of rules, and there is the right team selected by Yulia. As a result, now it seems that this is what has allowed us to grow about 10 times over the past 10 years in Moscow alone, but this is not the main thing. We managed to build a stable, scalable and consistent quality system on a non-mass product.

— Is the system more important than improvisation?

Julia: Spontaneous decisions are also needed, they give a feeling of air. For example, we give a lot of freedom to teachers, without this it is impossible. But we also need a well-thought-out system, rules that you can rely on. Therefore, we have a knowledge base, systems for assessing the quality of teaching, mentors, experts, senior teachers. And there are tutors – a team of people responsible for deep and high-quality contact with the family. And if the tutor does not know why the child is not in the mood to learn today, this is a bad tutor.

When the whole machine works together, there is freedom to be yourself. And now, after 19 years of the existence of the Russian Gymnasium, I listen to the voice of “inner Petit” and expect from the people who work there to work out business processes, and risk management, and project management.

— Why do kids (and teachers) love London Gates?

Julia: Because London Gates is genuinely interested in them, we are interested in all our children. Therefore, our children grow up to be our teachers. A large percentage of our assistants are former students of the school. Often for them we are the first place of work, where we also continue to teach them, but already working skills. This is also our uniqueness.

Peter: There are a lot of burnt-out, tired people in ordinary general education schools who are unable to breathe life into the subject they teach. And we employ people aged 25-35 – young, erudite, enthusiastic, ready to look for an approach to children and select methods that can take into account the peculiarities of the child’s perception. The more interesting the teacher is in his subject, the more interesting the child is with this teacher.

Julia: It has been proven that the higher the level of trust in the one who presents the material, the better this material is assimilated. As a rule, we do not work with school teachers and kindergarten teachers, our teachers are not teachers in the classical sense of the word. Our teachers are an attractive role model. They inspire confidence. As a result, children go to us once or twice a week, and the results are like in the best British schools. It is due to the trust and efficiency of educational processes.

I am extremely interested in educating the next generations. There is an element of immortality in this – because the future is determined by those whom you raised.

— The idea that you don’t work with professional teachers is ambiguous. Is teaching experience important?

Yulia: First, our expert interviews the candidates, assesses the level of knowledge and the associative series with which the teacher expresses himself. Then we evaluate the level of language proficiency: it is necessary that a person freely expresses his thoughts in English. The third stage is an interview with me: it is important for me to understand that our value systems coincide. If all three stages are completed successfully, preparation begins.

Peter: Empathy is important for us in a potential candidate, social intelligence is important, which allows us to assess the dynamics of the group during the lesson. These qualities are 80% of the basic skills of a teacher, and we definitely check them. And then there is the question of intelligence and learning. For example, the classical education of the past is frontal education: the teacher speaks, everyone else listens and is silent. And interactive learning involves the involvement of the child, and it is much more effective. If you convey this simple idea to a novice teacher and give examples, an intelligent and creative person easily masters the very basic principle that eliminates the knowledge of many facts. And the lack of experience in the classical system speeds up the learning process. Then the on-the-job training begins, in which the newcomer is assisted by an expert. This is an intensive feedback based on the results of the analysis of video recordings of lessons. During the first year of work, the teacher expects five or six feedback cycles, giving directed and individualized recommendations. As a result, we see how teachers in a year grow to a level that is certainly not inferior to the level of teachers with 20 years of experience in the classical system. I will tell you this as a person who has worked for many years in a comprehensive school.

The basic principle is this: it is easier to make a teacher out of a good person than to make a good person out of a teacher.

— What is the first thing you teach children at London Gates?

— At London Gates, no matter how much time a child spends with us, they will have a unique experience of learning, communicating and building universal skills. We live in a world that is changing at such a speed that trying to keep up with the facts is simply meaningless, but we teach the skills of acquiring, searching for information. It does not matter whether a person ends up studying abroad, but he will have such an opportunity. This piece of paper is a joker. I remember how one young man in London, at my insistent request, passed the A-Level in the Russian language – and then got to the top position precisely thanks to the presence of this certificate.

— What is multilingualism for children in your understanding?

Peter: It is important to understand that when we talk about language, we are not talking about instrumental skills — about how “cat”, “dog” will be in English, we are not talking about knowledge of grammar. Language is closely connected with thinking, which means that by studying a foreign language, a person learns to think differently. And we cultivate the ability to feel like our own in different cultures.

Julia: What is important for parents to understand? The habit of engaging in “translated language” is a poor and ineffective level of language teaching, it is not about the development of multicultural skills. Therefore, there is no need to worry if the son, after two weeks in our camp, does not know how to say “squirrel” in English.

— What else is important for parents to know?

Julia: I don’t like standard questions: how many people are in the group, how do you study grammar, do you have any native speakers? You have no idea how often I get this question. For some reason, it is believed that Desyatnikova does not like carriers. This is absolutely not the case: in London, and in Moscow, and in Paris, we have wonderful families where one of the parents is a native speaker. In our center in Riga, the teaching staff consists of 30% native speakers. But that’s just because educator communities are structured differently in different places. We select all teachers according to the same principle. And if only one carrier out of a hundred suits us – well, what can we do, take them just because they are carriers? Let other educational institutions do this. Let’s talk about what you want and how we can give it.

— Well, what questions of parents are you interested in?

Peter: I have been doing interviews for many years, and it seems to me that parents are becoming more idealistic (where “idealism” is opposed to “pragmatism”). Now material motivation is gradually becoming less noticeable – and at interviews, parents often ask what our mission is.

— Are you expelling?

Julia: Rare. When the company was small, all the interviews were conducted by me and my deputies. We part with students for the sole reason – a discrepancy in value and cultural attitudes. But this happens extremely rarely: in ten years, less than five cases.

– Almost all ages have drama classes at London Gates. Why are you doing this?

Yulia: The company is owned by a psychologist and I can’t stop being myself. Presentation of yourself and the material, the ability to debate, collective activity is the most important part of the program. The final show is a big performance in which everyone participates, both students and employees, a separate educational project. The child becomes an accomplice of a large colorful theatrical performance. Nothing transforms the human personality like theater.

— Many parents are concerned about the issue of accent when learning a foreign language…

Yulia: I have been living abroad for more than 30 years — and no one has ever been interested in my accent at any stage.

Peter: There is no gold standard for the English language now. And the more “versions” of the language you meet in your life, the higher your ability to understand the language. And we like that our teachers have different accents: someone worked in America, someone in England, someone lived in Australia — and each brought his own language and culture of speech.

Julia: At the same time, a person who has lived in Russia all his life can sound like a carrier. The combination of ear for music, observation, and listening is important. In general, as the British say, fusion rules the world – and today the issue of accent does not concern anyone anymore.

— What results are you personally proud of? Can you give an example of students who convinced you that your approach to education was the right one?

Yulia: First of all, I will say that I am extremely proud of my team. And especially how we survived the pandemic and how more than 1,000 London Gates students jumped online in a week. We have learned to exist online without loss of quality, including the Barnaby project (for children from 9months to 2 years): I saw with my own eyes a child who runs to the screen and hugs this screen! We staged performances and filmed movies online! And now our online is growing – wherever a person lives, he has the opportunity to participate in projects of both the Russian Gymnasium and London Gates.

This year another event happened that became a dream come true for me and for our entire team. Our London Gates Primary School has opened its doors to its first students.

And there are a lot of examples of students that I am proud of. The man who at the dawn of his career played the Frog in Teremka, and at the release of one of our projects played Woland in The Master and Margarita, is today a leading member of the Department of Politics and Economics at the University of Derby. A girl who came to us to study at the age of two and a half now teaches drama with us. The first London Gates graduate came into my office and said that he had offers from Oxford, Harvard and Yale graduate schools – and he did not know what to choose. Another graduate graduated from University College London and is now developing our internal scientific direction. You can go on for a long time.

Peter: An important detail: it is not always necessary to think in terms of classical success criteria like rank and earnings. It is important for us that our graduates understand what they want. Julia: This is a conversation about freedom of choice.

Peter: And we are also proud of how the process is organized inside. We set an example not only for businesses from the educational industry. Sometimes large companies in general from other areas turn to us for advice.

Julia: For example, we tried our hand at consulting with one of the world’s largest glass giants, AGC, in the Asahi Glass Academy project. And the results of our consultations on business development, training and recruiting are also a serious reason for pride.

– Do you plan to transform this into a separate direction?

Julia: Of course. At the same time, I am not interested in consulting educational institutions – I do not believe in it. We will be happy to share the quality assessment system, the electronic system, the knowledge base, but it is more interesting for me to discuss issues related to the human factor with business. Because the school is still a very author’s story, where the author is responsible for everything. If I take a big business and show them a different approach to recruiting, to internal training, to interaction with clients, that’s a completely different story. At the same time we provide opportunities that stimulate the development of each camper’s self esteem. Specific knowledge and skills are taught with a “learn by doing” approach.

Physical fitness is developed through sports and recreation programs, fostering campers’ emotional, physical and intellectual growth.

A wide range of activities are offered to provide appropriate challenges for the wide range of skills and interests campers bring to the island. Campers will keep up their skills and learn many new ones through our fun leadership and literacy activities that are woven throughout the program.

Owned and operated since its beginning by the American School for the Deaf, Camp Isola Bella follows the School’s American Sign Language/English Bilingual approach to communication, which incorporates American Sign Language, speech, reading, writing, and the use of assistive hearing technology. Staff are willing and able to meet campers where they are to provide the best summer camp experience for each child. This approach minimizes communication barriers so students and staff can focus on having fun and learning together. Children of Deaf Adults (CODAs), as well as children with deaf siblings are also welcome to attend Camp Isola Bella!

The maximum scholarship award is $1,000.

On October 1, the “Bella” tent camp located on the outskirts of the village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya in the Sunzhensky district of Ingushetia ceased to exist de facto and de jure. Today, the last two tents have been moved from the former TAP “Bella” to the neighboring town of Chechen refugees “Satsita”.

According to Akhmed Lyanov, commandant of the “Bella” camp, all the inhabitants of the town (more than 150 families) are currently accommodated, at their request, in TACs on the territory of Chechnya and Ingushetia.

“Each person individually decides where to live. All temporarily displaced persons leaving the Bella camp receive food debts in accordance with existing standards,” the acting director said in an interview with a local television correspondent. Ivan Nikolaevich Pomeshchenko, head of the UDM of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Ingushetia. At the same time, he recalled that the return of people takes place exclusively on a voluntary basis, and there were no complaints about the actions of the federal authorities and representatives of the Department of Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Ingushetia from the resettling citizens.

The Bella tent camp on the outskirts of the village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya was established in the autumn of 2001 and was considered one of the largest centers of compact residence of Chechen refugees in Ingushetia.

Initially, according to various sources, from 5 to 6 thousand temporarily displaced persons from the Chechen Republic lived here. There were two schools and two kindergartens on the territory of the camp.

Officially, the Bella temporary accommodation center ceased to exist on September 1 of the current year after the corresponding order of the Head of the FMS I. Yunash. However, the intervention of representatives of international humanitarian missions dealing with the problems of internally displaced persons in the territory of Ingushetia, as well as local human rights organizations, delayed the liquidation of the camp for some more time. After last Friday, by special order of the President of the Republic of Ingushetia Murat Magometovich Zyazikov, the gas supply was resumed in the camp, it seemed that the situation was completely resolved successfully. However, from 29On September 30, attempts to disband the camp resumed, and on September 30, the leadership of the UDM RI announced the final closure of the camp.

Meanwhile, internally displaced persons complain that they have not yet been provided with normal living conditions in the new place – gas and electricity have not yet been supplied to the tents set up on the territory of the Satsita town.

According to local human rights activists, the action with the closure of the “Bella” camp is only the first step towards the forceful liquidation of the points of compact residence of Chechen refugees on the territory of the Republic of Ingushetia. On October 1, residents of the LogoVaz TAC in Nazran already applied to the office of the Chechen Committee of National Salvation, who, according to them, were informed by the Head of the regional migration service, A. Tomov, about the upcoming closure of this TAC.

Pati’s full name is Patimat. She is an Avar, born in the Dagestan mountain village of Tlyarosh, then moved with her mother to Makhachkala, and graduated from the last grades of school in Moscow – she persuaded her to let her live with her relatives. In Moscow, she studied at the Academy of Foreign Trade, worked in large companies, was engaged in logistics, and then went to study in Italy. Graduated from the Master’s program in non-commercial project management and conflictology. While I was studying, I worked there, among other things, in children’s camps. When Bella told her about her idea, she decided to come help without hesitation.

She got the middle group, seven to nine years old. Every evening Patya says that she is like a squeezed lemon, but the children are a delight. “Patya, how old are you”? But not everyone in the village supports Bella. Not everyone likes her secularism, life in Milan and the desire to change the lives of children in the village. “On the second day of work Balapanlara the deputy head of the Nogai district arrived with the words What are you up to here and who allowed ”, ,” says Bella. – And after half an hour, people appeared who introduced themselves as FSB officers, and they say, they say, we learned that you have foreigners here. We asked a real New York-area nanny with over a decade of experience working for multiple families to reveal her grievances—from the eye-opening to the jaw-dropping. It may make you seem unprofessional, put the kids in danger or break the parents’ trust in you. In fact, 64% of parents say finding a babysitter they like and trust is stressful — and a reason not to hire someone altogether, according to one Care.com Babysitter Survey.

To make sure you get hired — and keep getting hired — here are 12 things you should never, ever do while babysitting.

1. Don’t take the kids out of the home without permission

To prevent worry and safety concerns, parents should always know where their child is, says Elizabeth Malson, founder of the US Nanny Institute in Bradenton, Florida. If you’ve been hired for a date night or regular after-school babysitting job, they’re assuming you and the kids are going to stay homebound.

“You need to have permission in advance to take anyone’s child somewhere in advance unless it’s an emergency situation,” says Malson.

In the same vein, if you do have permission to take the children somewhere and you don’t go, the parents should know that, too.

“For example, if the child was supposed to be going to soccer but they’re not going because they’re ill, the sitter needs to communicate that,” says Malson. “Always let parents know if plans change.”

2. Don’t take or post photos of the kids

“Never post pictures of other people’s kids on social media,” says Malson. “It’s a privacy issue. Some parents don’t want their kids’ names and photos out in public, so this is not appropriate without the parent’s permission.”

According to the Care.com survey, 65% of parents ask caregivers not to post photos of their children on social media. Your employer might not want you to even take pictures, so always ask first.

3. Don’t be on your phone.

It’s not just taking pictures. You shouldn’t text, talk or use your cell phone at all while you’re on the job, except to communicate with the parents. Parents are expecting you to be 100% focused on watching their children. In fact, 76% of parents say they don’t want their sitter to be distracted by their phone.

“Put your phone away in your bag or purse,” advises Rachel Charlupski, founder of The Babysitting Company in Miami, who suggests communicating with a parent on how frequently you should check your messages. “If you’re on your phone, you’re not with the children,” she says.

4. Don’t smoke, drink or do drugs

Some sitters might think it’s OK to relax with a glass of wine after the kids go to bed, but remember you’re still on the job while the kids are sleeping. In case they wake up or there’s an emergency, you’ll need to stay sharp and fully responsible.

“Never smoke, imbibe alcohol or use controlled substances on the job,” says Malson, who adds that tobacco use of any kind is very unprofessional and often frowned upon by parents. “Don’t even go outside to smoke because the smell will be on your clothes.”

If you’re a smoker, consider quitting or stocking up on nicotine gum if you’re unsure you’ll last the whole job without craving a cigarette.

5. Don’t make the family’s business public

When I asked friends about negative babysitter experiences, several of them mentioned their sitters gossiping or saying negative things about them to others.

“My babysitter complained via text to our former nanny about how whiny my kids are, and she accidentally sent it to me instead,” says Shannon, a mom in Santa Clarita, California, who ended up firing that sitter.

Even if you send the text to the right contact, your complaints could easily get back to your employer, so be careful what you say or type. Even if you’re not complaining, any information should be handled discreetly. For example, if you’re asking an online forum or other sitters for advice, you always want to keep your employers’ identities and correspondence private.

“It’s unprofessional to screenshot and post a message conversation with an employer,” says Malson. “If you need help, post a description of the situation in your own words, not a screenshot grab. There could be identifying information in the post, and it may or may not be out of context.”

6. Don’t watch inappropriate shows or videos

Your babysitting job isn’t the place to catch up on “Ozark” or revisit “Sex and the City.”

“If a kid comes up and sees this big scary [or inappropriate] thing, you could traumatize them,” says Malson.

7. Don’t introduce new or controversial discipline

It’s important, before you babysit for the family, that you’re clear on the rules of the house and how misbehavior is usually handled. That way, you can implement the same disciplinary strategies the parents usually do — taking away TV time or timeouts, for example. In discipline, consistency is important.

And it might be obvious, but babysitters should never abuse, spank or yell at kids.

“In no way ever should you hit or yell at any child you’re babysitting,” says Malson. “If you can’t manage your own behavior and emotions around the child, then you shouldn’t be babysitting.”

8. Don’t give kids food or medication without permission

“I would be very unhappy and uncomfortable if a babysitter gave my child medicine without checking with us first,” says Amy, a mom in Manlius, New York.

Even if the child has a fever and the parents told you where the Tylenol is, you should definitely get it approved before administering it.

Also, before the job, ask the child’s parents what specific snacks and/or meals are OK to give them while they’re away. They may only want the child eating certain foods or have house rules about things like candy or junk food. That way, when the kid asks for something to eat, you know whether or not it’s OK to give it to them. If you’re unsure, even if it seems harmless, you should say no.

Charlupski encourages sitters to communicate with their employer on what meals and snacks are allowed — and what is off-limits. “It’s not up to the babysitter to make the decision themselves to give the child what they want,” she notes. “There could be an allergy or certain rule against it. We’re there to enforce the rules of the home. That’s why it’s really important to find out all the household rules in advance.”

9. Don’t host visitors

It might seem fun to invite a friend or a significant other to keep you company while you’re sitting — babysitters do it all the time in the movies. But this one is another firm no.

“By accepting an hourly wage, you’re giving your time to that family, not paying attention to friends,” says Malson. “It’s also a liability if your friend comes over and something goes wrong. You’re responsible for any people you bring into that home.”

10. Don’t cross boundaries

Resist the urge to open medicine cabinets, dresser drawers or closet doors unless it’s something you need to do to care for the child, like getting their pajamas at bedtime. The family you’re sitting for has welcomed you into their home, but remember that crossing over certain boundaries invades their privacy. 

“No getting on the family’s personal computer,” says Malson. “Don’t pull up your personal social media account on it. There’s a level of privacy you want to maintain.”

There’s also a level of personal space and decorum people expect from their sitters.

“Don’t take a drink straight out of all the containers in the fridge,” says Anna, a mom in Winnetka, Illinois. “Yup, it happened to me, and it’s gross!”

11. Don’t cancel at the last minute

When sitters cancel on families, it can wreck their plans and cause stress. Whether it’s a much-deserved night out or an important work meeting they’re attending, you want to show your employers you respect their time and avoid canceling as much as possible.

Obviously, everyone gets sick from time to time though, and in that case, you should cancel.

“Going to a job when you’re sick is definite no-no,” says Charlupski. “If you need to cancel because you’re sick, do it at least 24 hours ahead of time. If it’s less than that, then definitely provide a doctor’s note. If you’re working with an agency, they’ll find a replacement. If not, give them a referral to another sitter you trust.”

12. Don’t forget to clean up after yourself (and the kids)

“I had a babysitter who left such a mess it looked like they threw a frat party, ” says Melanie, a mom in Medford, New Jersey.

Babysitting can certainly get hectic, but take a little time to clean up small messes throughout the job, so they don’t become a huge mess. For example, if the kids take out a toy, have them put it away before moving on to the next activity. If you give them lunch, put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher when they’re done. You may not have been hired to do housekeeping duties, but you are expected to maintain the status quo of the home while you’re there.

“Parents want consistency with their kids,” says Dan, a dad in Scottsdale, Arizona. “We want to come home to a house we know, routines observed as usual and calm seas in general… If a parent feels they can trust that their instructions and wishes will be followed while you’re there, they will call you again.”

6 things that annoy nannies in parents of children

When teachers are asked what is the most difficult thing in working with children, they often answer: parents. Our blogger Varvara Kurchenko, who helps parents and nannies find each other, also agrees with this opinion, but from her own point of view: it happens that the biggest problem of a nanny is the parents of the child she looks after. Varvara has collected the most common complaints on her blog.

1. “Annoying depersonalization”

“Sashenka, go say goodbye to your nanny, she’s about to go!” It’s annoying to be so depersonalized. For some reason, I don’t remember that employees, for example, at the institute were called by their position: “Go to the 21st office to the laboratory assistant, bring the contract”, “Did you say goodbye to the head of the department?” The nannies have a name.

2. “Why is it so expensive?”

Annoying depreciation. In my opinion, quality work should be well paid. Especially when there is a price list for services in front of your eyes. 3. “You are so young…”

We need a nanny like a grandmother.” All pedagogy is saturated with this attitude: they also want to see kindergarten teachers and teachers in schools “with experience”. 4. “It is not clear why the nanny was called”

It infuriates when you come to work with a child, and there is a crowd of relatives at home: mom, dad, grandparents, aunts, girlfriends. All of them sit together with you in the room and actively attract the attention of the child. This is inconvenient for everyone: the nanny feels that she is not doing her job, the rest still spend time with the child, although they could go about their own business: go to the store, to the cinema or for a walk. Otherwise, why call a nanny?

5. “Constantly calling, monitoring”

If you have made the decision to invite a nanny, be prepared to relax, trust and let go. It is not difficult to do this when you know that the child is in the hands of a professional. I understand that when a new person comes for the first time, it’s hard and exciting. But when the nanny has been with you for six months, and you continue to call, instruct, give comments, it’s annoying. To avoid such situations, try to say all the nuances in advance, ask the right questions at the interview. Your task is to find a person with whom you will be comfortable leaving the child.

6. “Do not influence the child”

It is surprising when parents look for a nanny who “should not influence the child and show initiative, should only do what she is told.” It is not entirely clear how one can not influence a child when you are with him every day. Maybe someone in the know? Naturally, a nanny should not introduce a two-year-old to religion or inspire a first-grader that being a vegan is cool. When a nanny comes to work in a family, more than half of the employers make the same mistake – they decide that all the details and subtleties can be discussed sometime later, along the way . .. But in our experience, this just becomes a source of conflict between the employee and family. In addition to the size of the salary and the number of working hours, it is better to immediately, without delay, discuss with the nanny the conditions and circumstances that are significant for you, this will ensure mutual understanding and save everyone’s nerves.

1. My word is law, because I am a mother

No matter how pathetic it may sound, it is worth explaining to the nanny the sooner the better. This is especially important if you are hiring not a novice nanny, but an employee with experience and recommendations. The most interesting thing is that such cases are not uncommon: employers are looking for an experienced nanny, and then complain that instead of following instructions and solving problems with high quality, she tries to teach them about life and imposes her point of view on any occasion.

If we talk about employees with experience, then this is just the other side of the coin. An experienced nanny sometimes begins to think that she knows better what to do and you can not really listen to what the employer says. It seems to her that she is always right and the parents of the child must unquestioningly trust her.

In fact, there are as many rules as there are families, and experience for an employee is undoubtedly an advantage, but no one has canceled professional ethics. Even if all previous employers listened to the nanny and agreed with her, you may have the opposite opinion, and she, as your employee, is obliged to obey.

2. Deviations from the schedule. Everything is fair

Anything can be written in the nanny’s questionnaire and in your vacancy, but in practice there are often urgent business trips, unforeseen meetings, urgent matters, illnesses, traffic jams, in the end. Immediately discuss with the employee the possibility that sometimes she will have to be late. And agree on how you will pay for those extra hours. If this arrangement is unacceptable for her, it is better if you find out about it even before she starts working in the family than when you are already stuck in a traffic jam and nervous.

3. It is not allowed with my child…

Immediately list all the prohibitions that you consider necessary. Make a list of foods that the baby may be allergic to, name sweets and fast food that, in your opinion, should not be given to the child under any circumstances. What may be obvious to you may not necessarily be obvious to the nanny. To some, it seems quite normal to appease a raging pupil with a tablet, smartphone, or a couple of candies. There are nannies who, in all seriousness, do not see anything wrong with turning on adult films or crime news with a small child.

By the way, I immediately agreed with my nanny on such an important point for me: she has no right to lisp and be gentle with my son. As much as she would like it. No matter how cute he seemed to her. The nanny should communicate with him moderately strictly, not indulging whining and whims, not groaning over every scratch or bump. And for tenderness, the child has me.

4. Situational questions

For example, a toddler got into a fight with another toddler on the playground. Or, let’s say your child pesters the nanny with a request to buy another toy or ice cream. Or it’s time to go home, and the child, bursting into tears and stamping his feet, does not want to leave the street. Let the nanny tell you how she intends to act in such cases. Her answer will clear things up for you. And if the position of the nanny seems wrong to you, immediately explain yours to her. Of course, if she starts arguing with you, trying to win over to her side, you should think about whether you need such an employee.

5. Briefly about the main things

The family, as you know, is a cunningly arranged, complex organism and it is not enough for a nanny who works in the family to find an approach only to the child, it is better for her to know the character and characteristics of each of the household members. Be sure to tell the babysitter about important details. For example, my grandmother is hard of hearing in her left ear. The father of the family, before he drinks his morning coffee, does not answer any questions, and it is better not to even try to ask them.

Lakewood – located in Colorado

Lakewood is a city in the United States of America, located in the state of Colorado. The city of Lakewood is the most populous city in the Jefferson County metropolitan area and the fourth most populous city in the entire state. Thus, according to the population census for 2005, 140 thousand people live in the city.

The beginning of Lakewood history is recorded in 1969. At the time of granting the city status, about 90 thousand people. The city is listed among the largest urban settlements in the United States at the time of its registration. The community in this city has existed for about 80 years. Today, the head of Lakewood is a mayor named Bob Murphy.

This lake is a perfect place to spend your free time and relax with your family. Lakewood also has some wonderful amusement parks. There are a wide variety of shops and shopping centers, numerous restaurants, cafes and bars.

There are many companies in the city specializing in the production of medical devices and drugs. Light industry and the food industry are also widely developed in the region

The city of Lakewood is connected with the neighboring cities of Colorado and many cities of other states by an extensive network of highways and roads. And the main city transport in Lakewood are buses.

Young teacher Anishchenko Ksenia Sergeevna took part in the IX Summer School for Young Teachers at Baikal.

The first day of the school was held under the motto “We are a team!” . The participants were divided into three teams: Iskra led by Rosa Shalygina, Yellow Tulips led by Svetlana Naimanova and Guardians of Childhood led by Maria Tretyakova.

The second day and the theme of the day “Mastery”

July 4 Baikal welcomed the participants of the Summer School with a cozy coolness. Morning exercise took place on the shore of the lake.

Master classes from the winners and laureates of regional professional skill competitions were presented that day.

Young teachers took part in various master classes and trainings from their own colleagues. A series of master classes “Young to Young” is not only a source of new knowledge, but also a wonderful tradition of the Summer School.

After an invigorating exercise, young teachers took part in a body-oriented psychological training, which was conducted by an educational psychologist Shchekolova N.S. After all, as you know, a healthy mind is in a healthy body, so much attention was paid to the body and physical activity at the school.

Lecture-workshop “Professional image of a teacher” for school participants was held by Orlova I.G., teacher, head of the Department of Theory and Practice of Music Education, IRKPO.

Speech on the topic: “Educational ecosystem of the Irkutsk region” was presented by the head of the additional education department of the Ministry of Education of the Irkutsk region, Perfiliev S.V. An open dialogue took place, the trajectory of the transformation of youth associations in the Russian Federation-Yunarmiya, RDSh, Big Change was discussed. Participants asked interesting questions about educational advisors in schools.
